tbh I don't feel great after watching Guardians of the Galaxy 3. like. yeah the overall message is eugenics + animal cruelty = bad but there were just so many moments that made Drax the butt of the joke
the ending of the movie was really great but so many jokes were about his intelligence and his literaliam. he's incredibly autistic coded and in a movie with the themes of eugenics, those jokes just got dialed to a 10
Rockets friends were literally physically disabled and had prosthetics. Hell one had a wheelchair and it was obvious Floor and Teeth had intellectual disabilities and in this *same* movie, where i had to watch those disabled characters be murdered, I had to watch the good guys routinely make jokes about their friend and routinely call him a moron. the BAD GUYS make the same jokes about their own friends TO the good guys
and what made it worse is the people in the theater with me laughing at those jokes. it feels like Drax was played up as a lot less intelligent than he actually is. he got reduced to a caricature of himself until it came time to save the children
I had gone to see the movie after work in attempts to make my awful day better and it didn't work. idk

One thing I have to warn about Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3...trigger warnings for animal abuse (which we all knew was coming) and trypophobia on this one planet where a lot of stuff happens in the first half

THE REVIEWS ARE GOOD
youtube
A list of things in this:
Good to know it's supposed to be funny, most of the trailers have been depressing
Perfect conclusion? Okay I hope they aren't bullshitting us
LYLLA VOICE LINE FINALLY
Still no Adam tho :'
"Best Marvel Movie Since End Game" not a high bar IMO but it's not a BAD thing
I know they did NOT have Rocket literally say "so that happened" I hope this is from him retelling his backstory and not in response to some shit
Cool to see the ravagers are all back!
Overall this has me hyped as hell, fingers crossed it doesn't suck

The greatest tragedy of Guardians of the Galaxy three
The fact that rocket didn't say "And we will all fly away together into the grand unknown" (or whatever he said to his friends in the backstory scene) to the guardians at the end.
Tumblr media
I just think it would have showcased how he got to live out his dream eventually with people he loved, even if his friends never got to.

I'm scarred for life because looking at the clips that show rockets friends doing little dances of random happiness despite them being victims of cruel animal testing really broke me. Like none of them deserved to go through that.

here are a few sneak previews of what we’ve got going on (this is really more to organize my thoughts and force myself to come up with titles than anything else)
upcoming rocket raccoon fics behind the cut
1. Window Across the Galaxy
aka long&angsty. hoping to start posting on Sunday or Monday.
Slooowww burn + eventual smut. elements of hurt/comfort because rocket is the saddest-angriest boy. Slight AU starting pre-GOTG volume 1 (but will hit most of the same major plot points).
Rocket is captured by a Ravager crew hoping to get rich off the excessively large bounty on his head. Throwing a wrench in everyone’s plans is the Terran girl they hired to do some freelance assessing on a recent haul of goods they’ve seized from a Xandaran luxury liner. Oops.
She looks at the rusted bars, and back to her brute of a tour guide, and sighs heavily. Slowly, she turns back to the cage, swaying toward the bars so she can peer in at eye-level. She’s immediately face-to-face with the creature. His ears are still pressed flat against his head, fur bristling, and he’s gazing back, clearly suspicious and probably - justifiably - feeling more than a little bit mean. She’s suddenly certain that if she got close enough, he’d take out her eyes. There’s no helping herself, is there? One corner of her mouth twists up in exhausted resignation and she nods. “Welp,” she says solemnly to the raccoon, “fuck me, my dude.”
2. Blackmail Material
(codename: pwp???). will probably post part 1 in a week or two.
just pure fucking smut. this was gonna be two parts but I'm leaning toward three now (smut // fuff // smut). probably takes place sometime after endgame but before volume 3? not that it really matters tbh because there is NO FUCKIN PLOT HERE. ur girl's got a praise kink so that'll definitely be featured per usual.
basically: rocket finds your vibrator.
“I’ll tell you what,” he offers up, still grinning that shit-eating grin. “I won’t say a word and I’ll give it back to you. You can even keep whatever batteries are in it.” That sounds too good to be true. You raise a brow and cross your arms in front of your breasts. “If?" “If you let me watch you use it,” he challenges, eyes daring you. “For science.”
3. Domestic Scenes in Space Travel
(codename: ok sweatshirt girl.) i dunno -maybe post the first one by mid-august?
Comics-inspired but not exclusive - just a buncha feel-good fuffy one-shots and equally feel-good smutty one-shots. Series of slice-of-life readerxrocket one-shots following The Very Boring Adventures of Space Pilot & Sweatshirt Girl.
“Just try not to push any buttons or pull any levers till you know what they do.” You snort. “I fully intend to keep my hands completely to myself unless I have your explicit permission to touch.” Rocket leers. “That could be fun.” Your eyes narrow. “Space Pilot, I’m gonna need you to focus on the task at hand so I don’t end up accidentally jettisoning us.”
4. Other Duties As Assigned
(codename: schemers, dreamers, & multicalendar memers) i don't have an intended outcome for this fic yet so while i am VERY much enjoying it, i first need to grapple with whether or not i'm okay posting something that may be unfinished. i usually try to avoid that.
I have no idea whether this will get smutty or not (probably, knowing me?). Begins five months after The Snap.
Natasha Romanoff is an administrative nightmare - a fact that does not go unnoticed by the (interim) captain of the Milano. First she demands that the remaining two Guardians of the Galaxy be reachable via a primitive Terran messaging system, and then she can't be bothered to read the frickin' emails.
Thank fuck she's hired a new assistant.
**THIS MESSAGE IS ENCRYPTED** To: <[email protected]> From: <[email protected]> Subj: re: WHAT THE FUCK RED Date: Monday, September 24, 2018 7:34am well that’s probably the nicest message I’ve gotten since I hacked the internet I’m gonna have to kill your boss though
(a super-secret spoiler sidenote - i have a formula and I shamelessly overuse it, so there are no surprises here: girl falls first, raccoons falls harder. every fuckin time friends.)

Watched Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 today!
Spoiler warning!
The movie was amazing, like one of the best mcu movies. I love how instead of treating Peter's grief like how they usually do. Instead they have every single guardian trying to help him. They all understand him and are chill with his drinking problems and grief of loss.
Everyone was so caring for Peter. But mainly Nebula was there for him. She was like another sister almost. She kept being there for him and wanting to help.
Love how Drax takes all the kids because it is how he is. He is and always will be the father. Drax with the kids just broke me, like ahhhh!! Also I love how Nebula is with the kids, wanting to save them from what she had to go through with her father Thanos. Then his relationship with Mantis, Peter kept throwing them to work together and they seem to be annoyed with it. Mantis kept Drax from doing some harsher things, yet she never could fully control him because she seem to trust him still. Mantis and Drax both seem to felt like they did not fully belong with the Guardians, yet they stayed cause they view everyone as a family, something they both love much.
The movie was telling about the backstory of Rocket. Each movie gave hints and he always tried to avoid talking about it. Yet now it had to be out for the guardians to help him. For he was dying in the movie and was out over half it. Yet those flashback we got.... They got to me, I love his friends he had. Lylla and Rocket were so cute, like ahhh!!! Then Teefs and Floor!!
All the four together in the flashbacks at least explains why Rocket was always worried of trying to save everyone. Watching how he lost all three for trying to save them. Even when Teefs and Floor told him to run, he could not leave them. I just could not hold those tears for that....
Groot, oh poor Groot. Through the movie, as Rocket was dying... He kept being worried. I could tell he was worried and more scared thought the movie. He was always listening and never goofing off much. Taking things seriously because it was Rocket's life at their hands.
Love how Cosmo and Kraglin were becoming friends. I love their friendship and how they care about everyone. Cosmo was a strong leader, yet she was playful. Kraglin wanted to be strong, yet he kept doubting himself. When he thinks about Yondu and sees him mentally, that is when he starts to become stronger. He has been slightly grieving over the lost of Yondu silently and no one knew. He was trying so much to not think about it, holding it away. That is when he finally became strong and started to master the arrow.
Love how the ravagers had now Gamora. In the movie, Peter kept talking about his Gamora, saying that she had to be the same as the future version. For they were the same person. Yet, they did my take on future and such, after a long the movie, Peter and Gamora finally come to a stand where they both know that she had her own decisions she could do. She did not need to be the future Gamora, the same person. Yet, maybe at the end it hinted that she started to have a small liking as in at least friendship with Peter now..
With High Evolutionary as the villain, it was a villain that we could not exactly sympathize much. He was actually crazy, like he killed whatever he made if it did a small mistake, he needed things to be perfect. With his creations, Adam and his mother were made. Adam had a mission to save his kind, he had to get Rocket to High Evolutionary. Yet when we see Adam we learn that he is still a kid, learning about the world and his life. Not fully understanding anything, even death fully. Until he found the ravager pet Blup. He found something he cared about, learning about love more. So when he lost his mother to Evolutionary, he still worked for him until Groot saved his life. That is when Adam repaid them and saved Peter's life. Now he is a part of the new Guardians that is lead by Rocket.
Also most people kept saying someone would die, well no Guardians did and no one has left the mcu yet!!! Star-Lord is still around, but back on Earth and trying to fix things with his Grandfather. The new Guardians still has Rocket, Groot, and Kraglin. Nebula, Cosmo, and Drax are staying at Knowhere, which seems to be the home place for the Guardians. Then the only one that I am slightly questioning about what next is Mantis. Mantis does not fully understand herself, like her brother Peter. So she sets off on a journey to understand herself better.
I am just so happy, yet I cried like at least over ten minutes of the movie!! I did not expect it to let me laugh and cry almost at the same time... All you mcu fans should go watch this masterpiece, I loved it so much!!

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 made me cry three times.
Hey, that’s one per movie...Yeah, this movie’s awesome.
If you couldn’t tell, this is a very emotional film for sure, and a part of why that works so well is because it’s these characters. The Guardians are some of the most likable characters in the MCU, so seeing them go through a lot of hard stuff in this movie hits ya where it hurts because of how much you care about them. Especially Rocket, who I might not see the same way again after this movie due to his crazy tragic backstory.
Speaking of which, shit gets DARK with Volume 3! Do you like animals? Then maybe don’t watch this one, because there are scenes where animals get tortured, mutilated, mutated, and even killed throughout the film. You don’t see the REAL brutal stuff, but the implications that James Gunn puts in might actually be worse than SHOWING us. But don’t let that make you think we DON’T see any gruesome stuff in this. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is one of the few MCU projects that EARNS its PG-13 rating, having some VIOLENT imagery and deaths. For example, there’s a moment where you see what a character really looks like, and it might just be the goriest thing the MCU has ever had, which is the biggest compliment I can give.
But despite all that, it’s still funny! Like, REALLY funny! And the jokes don’t spoil and dramatic or serious moment in the film, either...Well, except for maybe one or two scenes, but that’s NOTHING compared to films where the jokes completely harm the final product like Thor: Love and Thunder. Here, the jokes are perfectly placed, are rarely forced in, and are ACTUALLY funny. Me and everyone in the theater were cackling with laughter a LOT throughout the movie. I could barely restrain myself from belting out a laugh or two half the time.
And the action. Holy SHIT, the action! These “trilogies” in the MCU really know how to save the cool stuff for the third movies. Iron Man 3, Captain America: Civil War, Thor: Ragnarok, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and now THIS FILM all feature some of the most epic, creative, and fun action scenes and set-pieces in the MCU. There’s a hallway fight that might just top Daredevil’s due to how violent and creative it is with these characters, their powers, and how they kill people. It really does feel like James Gunn wanted to give the fans a few final cool battles before leaving the MCU forever.
Which brings me to another thing about what makes this movie awesome: It is a clear send-off for James Gunn and the Guardians. The movie makes it VERY clear that this will be the last time all these characters will be together. Hell, the credits features pictures of the Guardians throughout their journies and adventures in the MCU. The most we’ll PROBABLY get are cameos, but other than that, this is the end for most of these characters. And WHAT an end it was.
If there’s anything to complain about, there’s two problems.
#1, Adam Warlock. The character isn’t...bad and Will Poulter nails the voice I always pictured this character having. But he doesn’t really nail who Warlock is in the comics and, overall, he’s kind of...pointless. You can easily write him out of the movie and make a few extra tweaks NOTHING would be missing. Honestly, it feels like the only reason why he’s here is because Volume 2 teased his appearance and James Gunn had no choice but to...bring him in for this last ride. Also, Warlock has the worst costume in the MCU. I mean, look at this:
Tumblr media
What even is this?
Which brings me to #2--Which is my most nitpickiest complaint: Star Lord doesn’t wear his mask. Ever. Throughout all two hours and a half hours of this film. It’s part of a bigger complain I have where characters don’t mask up as much as they should in these movies, but it doesn’t stop how distracting it is. I don’t want see Chrisp Ratt’s stupid face in this. I want to see STAR LORD.
Tumblr media
THIS! I want to see THIS! And the crazy thing is that Volume 3 finally gives the Guardians their comic accurate uniforms, but don’t go all the way in giving us Star Lord’s mask. Not even the original one they made for these movies. Part of the fun of superheroes are their cool and iconic costumes so it sucks that we don’t get to see enough of that. Imagine if Spider-Man: No Way Home or Captain America: Civil War didn’t have Peter and Steve wear their masks for the big and epic fights, including the finale battles. It wouldn’t be great, would it? Seeing Tom Holland and Chris Evans fight instead of Spider-Man and Captain America.
LET YOUR HEROES WEAR MASKS, YOU COWARDS!
...But other than that, this movie’s a near perfect 9/10 for me.
Now, does this mean Marvel’s back on their game and they’ll be making good movies again?
Tumblr media
...We’ll see.
For now, I’ll remain hopeful. Because while the MCU is going through a bit of a rough patch with its films and recent shows, there’s still some fun to be had. I’ll always keep an eye out for what they have next, even if it’s not always as good as it could be, it’ll always lead me to seeing...
A fun, nostalgic thrill-ride that honors Spider-Man and what makes him so awesome.
A touching tribute to Chadwick Boseman and how much he and the character he portrayed meant to others.
And this final ride that’s fun, tragic, and complete in all the right ways.
