watched paper hearts again yesterday and i'm never not floored at "it's not her." / "it's somebody though." no matter how many times i see it...it's such a grounding moment in a very intense and heavy episode, and there will always be at least one line in the midst of the most haunted and erratic mulder arcs that stays so true to the core of who he is.
standing in that autopsy lab, it really might all be over. he might not be able to search anymore. he might not be able to hope anymore. he might not be able to do the only thing he's ever done every day for 24 years anymore, and he doesn't know who he is without it. what would he do? paper hearts is my favorite episode, because it's so physical. it's almost punitive, how earthly it is. in this moment, he might be standing over his baby sister's corpse, and it's bones clawed out of the dirt. there's a palpably crushing weight to it, you can practically feel him shake through the screen.
when scully comes in with the lab results and says it isn't her, he buckles for a moment when he takes in that breath. but it's only one beat before he stands and replies: "it's somebody though."
it could've all been over, in that moment, and when it's not there is no relief. the way that he turns on that line and looks away, is visibly trying to keep from crying. he's grieving. it's not her but it's somebody, another ghost in a paisley nightgown that will follow him forever.
that's the depth of paper hearts: it's a samantha-arc episode but it's not really about sam, not really. it's about addie sparks. it's about karen ann philiponte. it's about sandra altman, and elsa houbox, and patricia fulton, and kathleen morrow, and elaine shawkowski, and kelly canne, and marla greene.
in the final scene, when the conclusion is "it's not samantha," it isn't a victory. there is no reprieve. he stares at the final heart with weary tear-filled eyes, and then shuts it in his desk drawer, another failure that will always be close by.

Headcanons - The Ultimate Combo!
Tumblr media
Brozone - drastically changed their looks coz they hate that they used to dress the same.
Brozone - All the brothers definitely hold doors open for the ladies and then close it on John Dory.
Brozone - All of the brothers share habits and mannerisms without even realising. E.g. tapping their chin when they're thinking hard, cracking knuckles when they're about to really get into a project, tapping toes when anxious.
Brozone - they became world famous, argued and left BEFORE the cage went around the Pop Troll Tree. (Canon?)
Brozone - there was a rumoured 'unfinished' Brozone song that was supposed to be released after that tour. John finally finishes it and the brothers offer to sing it for Poppy's bridal entrance song. Poppy immediately faints. In my head the song is 'Helpless When She Smiles' by The Backstreet Boys
Brozone - whatever the Trolls equivalent of the Superbowl is, I feel like Bruce and JD would be very into it. Jerseys and face paint and everything.
Brozone - when the brothers weren't sure how to reconnect, they ended up playing rummy together.
Bruce - one of those dads who would get a new barbeque and show off all the cool features to the other local dads.
Bruce - "No kids, we're not keeping that stray animal, end of story, no way..." - 1 week later and he's giving it kisses and building it an over the top kennel with a heated blanket and a water fountain.
Bruce - (canon?) carried all their eggs, indirect reason why his hair is so big. (Side note - I read somewhere someone called all their kids 'The Bakers Dozen' and I frigging love that)
Bruce - absolutely gets into the trashiest reality TV shows. "If Alejandro doesn't confess his love in this episode I will flip this table"
Bruce - makes Troll cuisine for his kids
Bruce - there aren't any Troll sized clothing stores around so Bruce sometimes has to make his own clothes.
Bruce - has considered getting his kids hug time bracelets
Bruce - the restaurants kitchen is set up like in Ratatouille (ladders, ramps, bridges, pulley systems) for Bruce to navigate.
Bruce - keeps every one of his kids drawings, their refrigerator is absolutely covered in them.
Bruce - his go-to excuse is "I can't, I've got 13 college tuitions to save for."
Bruce - has given 'love coupons' to Brandy before
Bruce - theorizes that his daughter LaBreezy will be the one to take over the restaurant.
Bruce - tries developing and inventing his own recipes, Brandy has to remind him that not everyone can handle as much sugar as a Troll can. He reels it back a bit.
Bruce - makes specific food for different reasons. E.g. makes bread when he's angry so he can take it out on the dough, makes lasagnas so he can use the leftovers as an excuse to visit someone, makes spicy dishes when he wants revenge.
Bruce - cameras make him self-conscious. If he is in a group he can tolerate it but hates being the only one in the photo.
Bruce - has caught his kids trying to do the Brozone dance routines. He tries to stay out of it best he can and let them have their fun but then they ask him to teach them and doesn't he just melt.
Bruce - has a wedding ring but it is Vacationer sized. He keeps it in his hair mostly but will braid it into his hair like an accessory for special occasions.
Bruce - 100% certain Poppy and Branch's first born would be a boy. "We're a family of five brothers! It took Brandy and I thirteen tries to have a daughter. Trust me, I have no doubt your first egg will absolutely be a boy." *They have a girl* Bruce 😑
Bruce - all the kids now request Brozone songs instead of lullabies.
Bruce - opened the restaurant before he met Brandy. Used all the money he had left from Brozone to open it.
Bruce - teaches his kids about body positivity.
Bruce - mortifies his kids by trying to use slang. "That was so very lit!" "Daaaaaaaaaadddddd"
Bruce - just starts being a Dad to everyone without realizing it e.g. cuts food into smaller bites, starts randomly folding people's clothes, licking his finger and wiping food off faces, always having snacks and bandaids in his hair.
Bruce - sleeps wearing a hair bonnet and continues his extensive skincare routine into adulthood.
Bruce - grew a full beard once. Then he had babies. They became obsessed with pulling his beard. No more beard.
Bruce - his kids have buried him in the sand more times than he cares to admit.
Bruce - has attempted to set up John Dory on a date with Brandy's sister.
Bruce - kept having kids because he and Brandy wanted at least one daughter. When they finally had LaBreezy they decided to stop.
Bruce - learned to surf to get Brandy's attention when they first met. Ended up falling in love with surfing before Brandy fell for him. 😁
Bruce - can and will reorganize someone else's kitchen to what he deems is more efficient.
Bruce - always the first to volunteer to babysit other Troll's kids. Not that he doesn't appreciate his own children, he just loves being about to dote on kids he can actually hold on his hip and carry in his hair. Just being able to do the little Troll things he can't do with his own giant kids.
Bruce - noone on the island knew about his 'past life' except for Brandy. (Canon?)
Bruce - has the world's best hangover cure but it's a secret.
Bruce - there have been times when he has muddled up his kids names and he hates himself every time.
Floyd - his hair is naturally pink but JD made him make it redder because 'we're a boyband and pink is a girls colour'
Floyd - absolutely judges you for your star sign
Floyd - knows exactly how to pop away that pain is someones back/shoulder/hips. Grabs JDs shoulder "Relax John. After three. One...two.." CRACK
Floyd - moves back to Pop Village for what JD calls 'early retirement' works in a sort of wellness center that has music therapy and yoga and stuff.
Floyd - in a desperate last resort he once mentioned he was part of Brozone to be noticed by a music producer. It's one of his biggest regrets.
Floyd - has volunteered at homeless shelters and performed at benefit concerts.
Floyd - was 100% sure he was going to die in the bottle. He now has a new outlook on life after being given a second chance.
Floyd - wants a long term relationship but is afraid of getting attached and being used.
Floyd - practices advanced yoga
Floyd - has developed claustrophobia
Floyd - released one solo album, one limited run, it was mentioned he is a former member Brozone on the cover to boost sales. It was a flop. This crushed Floyd.
Floyd - plans to get more body mods in the future.
Floyd - when asked about his past he describes it as 'colourful'. People are yet to find out what he means by this.
Floyd - kept two copies of his own album. He was going to give the other to Grandma Rosiepuff for her collection.
Floyd - when performing solo he does 10 push ups and drinks tea before going on stage. (Apparently Troye Sivan does this and I could see Floyd doing it too 😁)
Floyd - has tried on dresses and corsets before. Prefers overskirts.
Floyd - in a desperate attempt to try and forget V&V, Floyd nearly shaved his head.
Floyd - he actually wrote all of those songs for Velvet and Veneer!
Floyd - after the Mount Rageous incident he gets a little bit reckless without realizing it. He has an "I just survived death so cliff jumping isn't scary anymore' kinda attitude.
Floyd - can read palms and tarot cards.
Floyd - went through the seven stages of grief over his own death.
Floyd - can mix drinks. Messily. Was dating a bartender once and picked up some things from him.
Floyd - used to busk to earn extra cash (based on that one concept art)
Floyd - felt he needed to start a solo career because he wrote a lot of songs that JD didn't pay attention to.
Floyd - did in fact live with the other Troll tribes for a while. Hard Rock Trolls were the last ones he met. This was where he met his manager/mentor.
Floyd - high pain tolerance and godlike levels of patience.
Floyd - has been to rehab for hard candy, is currently 10 years sober. Now advocates for health and wellness in Pop Village.
Floyd - Broke up with several ex's when he found they were all only using him for his fame. 💔
Floyd - can only sleep comfortably near an open window. Sometimes can only sleep sitting up.
Floyd - will randomly stare off into space or mutter to himself.
Floyd - *clears throat* I ship Floom! 💕🏳️‍🌈
Floyd - can't stick to new hobbies for very long, he hyperfixates for a week or two then gets bored. Macrame, candle making, soap making, jewelry making, photography are some examples.
Floyd - did a few red carpet appearances during his solo era, he felt very out of place. @ssippingwaterfalls 💕
John Dory - has embarrassing baby pictures of his brothers as leverage
John Dory - over-exaggerates his retellings of stories "I fought off 30 no no no 40 snakes with one hand behind my back."
John Dory - always casually asking Poppy, Brandy and Viva to marry him, over small things too "Brandy, these pancakes are delicious, marry me."
John Dory - freaky level spice tolerance, looks people in their teary eyes as he bites a raw ghost pepper
John Dory - says "Gotta get home to the missus" when referring to Rhonda
John Dory - narrates himself "Against all odds, the brave and handsome Troll was able to tame the ferocious beast" he says as he's washing a purring Rhonda
John Dory - the Uncle that buys Bruce's kids toys that are either loud or that make a huge mess
John Dory - didn't finish school, made sure his brothers did
John Dory - has not kept track of his age and is in denial when people remind him.
John Dory - met Rhonda when she eats him. He just walks right out the door confused.
John Dory - has been arrested before, he changes the reason everytime someone asks.
John Dory - occasionally uses 'chewing tobacco' (which honestly in the Trolls-verse would be some kinda chewing gum 😂)
John Dory - serial flirt (very bad at it, he thinks he's great at it)
John Dory - does weird stuff because of his isolation e.g. will eat what's left over on the plates when Bruce's customers leave, will ask when the baby's due but they're just overweight, will go into detail about gutting a fish in front of Trollings.
John Dory - can open a wine/champagne bottle with his machete and light a match with his teeth
John Dory - does not own pyjamas, falls asleep in what he wore that day.
John Dory - has a midlife crisis when all the Trollings in Pop village thought he was Branch's dad.
John Dory - has had several concussions and plenty of broken bones. Got very good at applying first aid to himself.
John Dory - makes his own Moonshine
John Dory - sworn off ever having children.
John Dory - pretty scrappy at self defence, can hold his own when boxing.
John Dory - always has some kind of weapon on him at all times.
John Dory - tends to manspread when sitting.
John Dory - has been targeted by Bounty Hunters before, resulting in a gnarly injury on his hand he now covers with his glove.
John Dory - for a time he was convinced that he was the last Pop Troll
John Dory - sometimes refers to himself in the third person. "John Dory doesn't need a map!"
John Dory - doesn't 'get' modern art, pretends he does so people don't think he's dumb.
John Dory - will try to use fancier sounding words in a sentence, thinking it makes sense. It doesn't.
John Dory - when doing outdoor work, his brothers silently bet how long it takes before JD is unnecessarily shirtless.
John Dory - ends up helping with raising and handling the critters kept in the village. E.g rearing orphaned Cuddle Pups, shearing the Puffalos, breaking in the Adorabulls, taming wild flyer bugs.
John Dory - when living on his own, he would only come back to civilization just before the start of winter when it would be harder to forage and hunt food. He would spend a week or so stocking up on supplies, interact with the locals, then disappear again.
John Dory - takes night classes to finally get his highschool diploma. Is too embarrassed to tell anyone until he graduates.
John Dory - doesn't get sick often. But when he does, he keeps going to the point of exhaustion.
John Dory - has indeed crossed paths with Delta Dawn before. Both of them have very different versions of the story. "I serenaded her." "The fool was whining something from the inside of a jail cell."
John Dory - has been known to sleep with his eyes open. Freaks people out.
John Dory - will drink milk straight from the carton and put it back in the fridge.
John Dory - teaches Bruce's kids all the swear words and does in fact tell them his rendition of where eggs come from.
John Dory - claims to be holding back grey hairs with sheer will power
John Dory - believes in love at first sight, just not for himself.
John Dory - will wrestle and roughhouse to bond with people.
John Dory - if there was a couple sitting on a couch, JD will sit between them and not even realize what he did!
John Dory - he doesn't let it show but his ears are constantly twitching to check for danger, a side effect of living in the wilderness alone for so long.
Clay - writes long and very detailed critical reviews of restaurants
Clay - has reading glasses. Probably the ones that attach magnetically at the nose ridge.
Clay - labels everything (labelmaker is to Clay as Gary is to Branch)
Clay - very into color coded itineraries and always know everyone's business "Poppy is currently at Smidge's pod doing her hair" "How could you possibly know that?" "I have my sources."
Clay - also a notary and registered marriage celebrant
Clay - hair was always naturally green but JDs hair was already green. JD said he had to be yellow for the band, they needed that color coordinated group vibe.
Clay - has drafts for his own book series
Clay - actually plays golf
Clay - gets clumsy when trying to impress someone he admires (imagine him meeting King Peppy and he just knocks things over)
Clay - competitive af - brothers know better than to verse him at anything - has an over the top victory dance
Clay - receives special recognition alongside Viva for protecting the Putt Putt Trolls. (Knighthood? Trollstopia's official CFO?)
Clay - has a stupidly complicated coffee order
Clay - plans to move the Hole N Fun between Pop Village and Bergen Town. Imagine the business!
Clay - refers to Viva as his 'Work Wife'
Clay - knows how to use a stenograph
Clay - absolutely did not roll around the putt-putt course like the others.
Clay - everything must be neat and organized, after living with four brothers he values cleanliness so I imagine he would haaaaate glitter.
Clay - studied hard at math to set himself apart from his brothers.
Clay - occasionally tutors math to Trollings.
Clay - has a decent sized nest egg
Clay - graduated highschool early
Clay - has business cards stored in his hair
Clay - knows how to tie different knots for neckties.
Clay - can spin a pen around his fingers
Clay - is thinking of getting his own critter transportation
Clay - has no fuss, no fun breakfast. Plain toast or fibre cereal.
Clay - itching to hook Pop Village up with electricity.
Clay - was definitely the problem child. Being the middle child in a house full of teenage boys, coupled with the constant threat of Bergens with a sprinkling of John Dory as an older brother results in an angry little Troll boy.
Clay - his hardcore fans were known as Claydies.
Clay - the Putt-Putt Trolls didn't have a sad book club as they had no books! After the reunion Clay was very excited about the vast new collection of books he could get his hands on!
Clay - finds out that he was Poppy's favourite Brozone member when she was little and doesn't he just boast about it any chance he gets!
Clay - for Clay to finally forgive John Dory, JD agreed to perform for the brothers+Poppy and Viva in ONLY the funderdrawers. "Do you feel like you're having 76% more fun yet John? Cause I am!" *Camera snap*
Clay - bruises like a damn peach.
Clay - Viva made him co-leader after she gave up on the notion of being immediately rescued and realized Clay was already constructing and implementing long term settlement plans.
Clay - like the other Putt-Putt Trolls, he has basically become Nocturnal. Even with this, he pulls 'allnighters' to finish any work he has, so his sleep pattern is very inconsistent.
Clay - has a lot of energy. When he isn't dancing, he fidgets, taps his foot, bounces his knee, drums pens.
Clay - has many, many of the same sweater romper. All of them are different shades of green.
Clay - eventually hires an assistant. The assistant is mentally prepared for Clay to be a dictator of a boss. They are shocked when Clay keeps saying things like "Have you had a break yet?" "I think you need a day for your mental health." "Yes, that's how much I'm paying you. How are you going to save for your own pod if I pay you any less?"
Clay - had to quit being the Fun Boy cold turkey so that the Putt Putt Trolls would trust in his leadership.
Clay - I imagine a running gag that random Trolls keep calling him Viva's boyfriend/husband, and he keeps trying to correct them, but he is always cut off or they immediately forget. At some point a random Troll is like "What, is Viva not good enough for you?" And he is so exhausted from fighting it, he just gives up and rolls with it.
Clay - will stay up to sunrise reading 'just one more chapter'
Clay - his brothers collectively tried to convince him that he was the adopted brother.
Clay - is quite squeamish. The sight of vomit, open wounds and bodily fluids; Clay will absolutely pass out. Snotty babies make him very uncomfortable.
Clay - gets Viva to braid his hair out of his face only when something really serious is happening *cracks neck* "Viva?" "Yah?" "Braid me" "Yes, Sir." Shwoooop
Clay - Found out the Classical Trolls have a library larger the Pop Village. "Viva, they have a whole wing dedicated to tragedies! Tragedies, Viva!"
Clay - okay, so he and Viva have never been a couple, even if he ever considered it, their work came first and he didn't want to jeopardize what they had. Buuuuuuuttt the thought that another Troll could one day be Viva's person, that she would go to them instead of him for comfort or ideas or laughs or safety or hugs... it makes Clay feel... weird.
Clay - at some point is named some kinda Troll magazines most eligible bachelor. Bro was in a boyband, co-runs a society of survivors, runs a business, is close friends with royalty, has been knighted, has a license to practice accounting and was part of the only known Perfect Family Harmony. He's apparently a hot commodity now.
Clay - tells John Dory that some appliances are voice activated when they aren't. Will watch JD yell at the coffee maker. 😈
Clay - gets random nosebleeds.
Clay - is writing an autobiography. It will not be kind.
Clay - can read Latin.
Clay - overachiever. Was good at academics and sports in highschool.
Clay - a gambler, can count cards, good poker face and good at reading people's 'tells'.
Branch - for Pop Trolls - being in a famous singing group is the equivalent of being a recognized expert in your field. So, the fact that Branch is in TWO famous boy bands is like he has several PhDs.
Branch - Kismet formed inside a group home for Trollings
Branch - toying with the idea of building plans for a Pop Village Castle. (Secretly a fortress)
Branch - he is very, VERY aware that by marrying Poppy one day he would become King. In secret he plans. And plans. And plans. Mr. Survivalist Troll handles this new fear the way he usually does; with over-preparedness!
Branch - Kismet were the ones that originally got him hooked on ring pops.
Branch - learns phrases in other languages to build relationships with subgenre tribes of Trolls. E.g the K-Pop and Reggaeton Trolls.
Branch - started building the bunker while he was still living in the group home with other Trollings.
Branch - will hold onto Poppy in his sleep like she'll disappear if he lets go.
Branch - all those times that Branch thought the Bergens were coming? It was actually Creek harshly pranking Branch to make him look like a fool.
Viva - that concept art of tiny Viva is the age she was when they escaped the Troll Tree. So like 15 maybe?
Viva - wants to make up for all the missed holidays/birthdays/parties with Poppy so she is constantly popping out from places with gifts yelling SURPRISE!
Viva - does not knock on doors and absolutely will walk straight in when someone is changing clothes
Viva - snorts when she laughs too hard
Viva - biggest Broppy shipper. Already has their wedding planned in her head.
Viva - adrenaline junkie
Viva - no sense of personal space
Viva - rubs it into Clay's face that the ONE time he leaves is when Bergens show up. Uses it as leverage for the most petty of things. "Oh you want the last cupcake? Remember that time you left and Bergens came?" She's not even mad about it she just wanted the cupcake.
Viva - has made a list of all the things she's wanted to experience with Poppy. Makeup, planning parties, dealing with heartbreaks etc. they may not be the first times they've both done these things, but their excited to try them together. 😊
Viva - she reeeaaalllyyy wants to braid all of Bruce's hair. And Brandy's. And their kids. And oh look how much hair Vacationers have!
Viva - is worried that Clay doesn't need her around anymore.
Viva - wants to have children. Lots of them!
Viva - tries to hide sadder feelings from Poppy. Worried that Poppy won't want to hang out with her if she isn't fun.
Viva - calls the older brothers Mr.Bruce and Mr.JD (Clay told her to)
Viva - blows raspberries on peoples cheeks/arms/stomachs to show affection.
Viva - likes to collect 'things'. (Canon?) Never know when you might need the thing again. It can be reused for a different purpose. Side effect of trying to survive. Borderline hoarder. Clay does it too, he is just more organized about it.
Poppy - wishes that Branch would initiate physical contact more often.
Poppy - When something is wrong and the brothers don't want her to know, she can immediately tell because they call her 'Queen Poppy'.
Poppy - besides giving Clay and Viva their titles, she considers the other brothers unofficially part of her 'court' as well. (She might knight them later on, who knows?)
Poppy - sometimes feels guilty, if things had been different, Viva would have been Queen. Viva tries to reassure Poppy that she is "The right Troll for the role." 👍🏻 Also Viva tries to argue that they both technically get be Queens now anyway.
Poppy - would have many pillows and plushies on her bed.
Brandy - has swaddled Bruce before. By accident or on purpose, she will never tell.
Brandy - after watching Bruce, she now puts little things in her hair. Nothing huge, maybe a pen and a food order pad, a snack and bandaids for the kids. Depends on the day.
Rhonda - you know in Frozen, how Sven really wants to eat Olafs nose the whole movie? Imagine that but Rhonda wants to eat Mr.Dinkles
Rhonda - locks JD outside when she's annoyed with him. "Who needs you, I wanted to sleep on this rock anyway!"
Rhonda - when she was a baby she was more like a big suitcase than a vehicle.
Rhonda - really likes rolling around in mud, especially after she's just been cleaned. JD > 😑
Trolls - in general Trolls are pretty rare outside their usual kingdoms and it's considered good luck to meet one.
Trolls - letting another troll touch your hair is a very huge sign of trust.
Trolls - have their own version of godparents. Museparents.
Trolls - Can you imagine how many shades of foundation a Troll makeup store has to stock?! I mean, they probably don't need foundation but could you imagine?!
Trolls - having an egg on the way is known as an 'Eggnancy" 😂
Trolls - varies amongst the tribes but hair length and thickness is a good indication of their physical strength and health. So long, thick hair means they're healthy and can lift heavy weights. E.g. Smidge, Bruce, Boom. Whereas short, wild or thin hair means they could be older, unhealthy or just not physically strong. E.g. Peppy and Thrash.
Trolls - eventually a hybrid Troll (e.g. Techno/Funk) is born in Trollstopia and the parents name the baby after Poppy.
Trolls - JD and King Peppy do the same pose in some stock images. I like to think it's like a Pop Village salute. (It probably has an actual meaning)
Trolls - Hard Candy = Hard Drugs 🍭
Trolls - King Peppy invented all these bizarre holidays when they were trapped in the Troll tree to keep hope alive and to boost morale.
Trolls – teenage Pop Trolls wear eachothers hug time bracelets when they're dating. Like wearing their boyfriend's school pin or their jacket.
Trolls- Trollings can't make their hair into a gradient style until they are older. (survival/camouflage situations they can do, but only temporarily)
Putt-Putt Trolls - all delayed having Trollings worrying for their future safety. The very few eggs that hatched are hidden and protected by the whole tribe. (Putt-Putt baby names: Birdie, Par, Ace, Caddie, Fore, Eagle, Divot, Links, Scramble) Clay and Viva were present for every one of them hatching.
Putt Putt Trolls - all of them are wearing the same outfits because they used Bergen sized socks from the golf courses souvenir stand.
Putt Putt Trolls - use the courses tokens as general currency.
Putt-Putt Trolls - that coordinated attack to capture Bridget and Grissle? Clay was the one who planned and trained them.
Yodelers - Hickory and Dickory had a brother named Dock. He was the one that was rumoured to be crushed by an avalanche. He was the one to hunt down John Dory when everyone thought he was the last Pop Troll. While chasing him down a cliff side, he swung an ice pick straight through John Dory's left hand.
Sugar Gals - SPICE GIRLS TROLLS! I absolutely can picture young JD being so frustrated if BroZone was overtaken on the charts by a rival group
Crimp - goes to work for King Gristle and Queen Bridget after TBT.
Guy Diamond - Trolls have eggs when they have powerful feelings of love. Guy Diamond was able to have Tiny because he loves himself so much.
Tiny Diamond - checks on Branch and Poppy's egg daily asking if his new BFFL is here yet.
Tiny Diamond - the best wingman! E.g. He's hanging out with JD and starts playing up the baby image to lure in the ladies. "I wuv you Uncle John. You're my best friend!" And the ladies are like "Aww!" Tiny whispers "You're welcome"
Cloud Guy - gave Branch 101 reasons why he should officiate his and Poppy's wedding.
Queen Barb - messing with the Rock String made Thrash lose his mind and made Barb more aggressive. Notice they both seemed to be more level headed after the strings were destroyed?
Riff - studying to work in Aged Care. His studies are sponsored so that he can look after King Thrash.
Boom - Floyd's solo music helped Boom when he was coming out. 🏳️‍🌈
King Peppy - Didn't tell Poppy about Viva because he was in the early stages of dementia. (Canon?) For a while he thought Poppy WAS Viva. By the time he realised his 'mistake', Poppy was already grown.
Vacay Island - the brothers sometimes help Bruce at his restaurant. They have name tags with funny 'work names'. Flood, Big Fish, Classy, and Big Brunch. Viva and Poppy have done the odd shift as well, as Pinky and Diva. 😝

☕️ on good and bad jobs for Dick Grayson
ooooh fun. i'll say something controversial on bats and jobs in general & that's that i think that the focus on what jobs would be good for them have a tendency to focus on like. full-time Good Respectable careers as potential jobs for them (& i think it stems mainly from bruce being a CEO & people thinking that the batkids should follow suit to maintain a civilian persona or w/e). and the truth is that they're all rich af and nobody is checking for whether the 'wayne kids' are gainfully employed, so there's no need for them to ever pursue. careers. on account of it would probably get in the way of their more important job. (also, there's something about the careers usually chosen for them that implies. well, nobody is ever choosing retail worker for them for some reason despite the fact they have the means to pursue literally anything & not struggle for it).
i'll start with good:
so all & all i think a good job for dick is one where he can connect with the public & forge community bonds. that being said, i am drawn to part-time work such as bartending or being a gymmastics coach (which i believe he's canonically done both of those) as the ultimate best jobs for him as they're generally low commitment, low stakes ways for him to get that involvement with his local community.
we could also lean into his love for math & make him an accountant, but like one who does a ton of pro-bono work and focuses in on helping his local community with retirement planning & taxes (little bit too high stress & busy, especially around tax season, for my taste but dick does like to make his life hard so.). or like. economist or health economist? maybe someone who is contracted to help cities with budget stuff.
if he does work a municipal job of some sort--any sort of seasonal recreational job would be best for him over anything else imo. let him be a lifeguard or something. again, none of them can commit to the hours needed to work full time for the city, but taking a job that would promote good in the city (being able to keep pools open for kids) would be a good, relaxing thing for him. i'm sure he'd appreciate being able to save kids from drowning, too. or a city planner. that sounds fun for him for some reason.
bad jobs:
listen, as much as i actually do like the cop job for dick, not in a he's there to reform the police department like dixon tried way, but in a 'i like when dick makes decisions that are fundamentally a bad idea for him that will eventually blow up in his face' way. cop is a terrible choice for dick lbr.
any flavor of paramedic/emt/firefighter. god, i think i've told you this before, but i genuinely think this is the worst possible job for any of them. ever. especially dick. don't be fooled by media that shows only the heroics. this is a job where, while you do save people & that's very important, it's more about having to be okay with all of the people you can't save. of which there are a lot. this is a job that requires so much ability to dissociate from being called too late/failing/etc in order to go about your daily life, that none of them would be able to do it without constantly ruminating on the person who they tried & it was impossible to save them from the start. these are fantastic jobs to make dick hate himself, i'll give it that.
on a related note, physical therapist/any healthcare job in particular. trust me on the physical therapist. (seriously, though, it's another job where it's like. u have to be okay wuth the fact that you'll never be able to help everyone.) but really any healthcare job in general....like dick would do much better in a job where he can make tangible change in healthcare and how it works to make people's lives overall better over healthcare itself. u think dick is going to do well in a job where he has to cut off someone's rotator cuff repair treatment because insurance decided the person was done 3 months in. no. any healthcare job would demoralize him too much.
any sort of influencer/model/social media personality. it doesn't make sense.
aerialist trainer. listen this seems like it'd be good for him, but bad things tend to happen when he goes back to circus stuff. let him not be traumatized for once. (slightly joking)
spy. sorry. but spy.

My thoughts on the ending
This is probably going to be a bit rambling and disconnected, so bear with me...
(This got far longer than I meant it to be...)
Does anyone else feel that the Deserter is a reflection of the person Harry could have been, if he hadn't lost his memory? The bitterness and anger and inability to let go of the past remind me of a lot of things that the Ancient Reptilian Brain and the Limbic System say in the dream sequences... I think that Harry's amnesia is a gift, in a way - it allows Harry to eventually let go of the past and decide what kind of person he wants to be now. One of the first dream sequences shows Harry a vision of himself as the hanged man, and I think in a way the old Harry did die when he lost his memories. One of the reasons the game was so affecting emotionally to me is that you as the player are the one getting Harry to turn his life around, if that's how you choose to play it, because it really makes you feel involved and part of Harry's story. It's one of the reasons why I don't think the game would work well as a TV adaptation - I think it would really lose a lot of its emotional impact without your input. It really moved me that I could get Harry to go from screaming that he "doesn't want to be that kind of animal any more", to telling the Phasmid: "I'm glad to be me - an incredibly sensitive instrument".
I really love how the tone of the game manages to be somehow hopeless and hopeful at the same time. Maybe the world is doomed by the Pale, and the Revolution failed, and maybe Revachol is a shithole, but... you can find that there are things worth loving and saving in this broken world. You're subconscious tries so hard to convince you that it's all terrible and evil and that you should just give up and let the darkness take you, but all of your actions through the game can prove that voice wrong. It tells you you're not helping anyone, but depending on how you play the game, you are: you found Billie's husband, and even though he's dead, at least now she knows and won't have to wait forever for him to come home when he won't; Cuno has someone who actually listens to him and takes what he has to say seriously; you got Plaisance to bring Annette in from the cold; you stopped the mercenaries from killing as many people as they might otherwise have done (it went pretty badly in my playthrough, but I tried), and you gave Kim a friend. I love the message it seems to be trying to put across that even if the world is ultimately doomed, you can and should still try to find the good in it, and make a small part of it a better place. And maybe in the end it won't change anything, but the fact that you had hope enough to try matters. And maybe if enough people thought that way, they could change reality for the better - maybe there was a grain of truth in that infra-materialist stuff all along. Maybe it sounds corny, but I found it very touching.
This is... sort of where the Phasmid comes in for me, because everyone thought the existence of the Insulindan Phasmid was impossible, but because you believed in it enough, you were able to prove it was real. And if the Phasmid is real, then maybe other things that people thought were impossible can happen, too... It makes me feel very satisfied that I chose "SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL IS GOING TO HAPPEN" when I painted that wall. It seems fitting.
I also love the fact that the Deserter being stuck in the past is literally killing him. And... he talks a big game about being the last real Communist or whatever, but in the end, how is he actually helping the working class by clinging to his bitterness and refusing to let go of what could have been, instead of trying to do something to help the people around him? Even though Harry is flawed, and on his own can't change the world, he's made a difference to the people around him, which is better than being consumed by bitterness and doing nothing at all.
In the end, I think for me one of the core themes of the game is faith/belief (not necessarily in a religious sense)... I think that something that really helps is Kim's belief in Harry. He's so kind to Harry, when he could just as easily write him off as a shambling alcoholic. I think Kim's faith in you makes you want to live up to what he thinks of you, so... I'm not sure how coherent I'm being here, but it's a bit like how Harry believing in the Phasmid lets him make it a definite reality - Kim's belief in Harry as a great detective, or someone who could be a great detective, makes Harry a better person, I think. (At least, that's my take on it - I got so attached to Kim as a character that I really wanted to make him proud of my version of Harry!) And in the end, his faith wasn't misplaced. Again, he can't change the world, and he's human and not a saint (much as Harry may think he is), but Kim choosing to be kind did make a difference, even if it was only to one man.
tl;dr This is going to sound unbearably pretentious, but if someone asked me if video games can be art, this is the game I'd point to and say "yes".

Okay so this post has gained a lot of traction and I've seen some questions in the tags and also a few other posts talking about the same thing so I just want to clarify what I mean when I say "Please don't reduce Lizzie's character and death to an extension of a man's" and similar things. (Just for some clarification before we start: I don't think this is some huge issue that we need to have a big fight about, but I have seen some people talking about it and I wanted to put in my two cents)
I know no one is doing this because they're misogynistic. I know there would be similar reactions if any of the men had the same arc over the season. I know people are telling the truth when they say the connections they're making between Lizzie and the male characters aren't because she's a woman. I know no one is thinking about her gender when they're saying these things and that is what bugs me, I think.
Fandom in general, but especially the MCYT fandom, has always had issues with the way we treat women. We have a tendency to reduce them to one or two characterizations (kind, mothering, vengeful, etc.) or to their relationships with men, things that aren't inherently bad things for a character to be. The issue comes from when that's the ONLY thing they ever get to be. They're not allowed to be as complex as the men. Again, I'm not at all saying that anyone is doing this on purpose, it's just a pattern that fandom culture as a whole seems to struggle with.
And when you have an issue like, that the answer isn't to ignore the gender aspect and treat all characters the same. You have to intentionally combat it. You have to take the time to deliberately give the female characters complex characterizations and interesting storylines outside of the men. It's equality vs. equity, you know?
If you've ever done research about writing POC characters, you've probably heard people say something like "Don't just write them like you would a white character because you might accidentally enforce stereotypes and biases you didn't even know existed. You have to be aware of those things so you can intentionally go against them." It's kinda similar to that in my head. You can't just say "I would do the same thing for a man" and be done with it because men and women have been treated very differently in fandom spaces and if we want to change that, we have to be intentional about how we write them.
I don't think there's anything inherently misogynistic about connecting Lizzie's death to the Canary Curse or Joel's revenge arc, but I would like her to also have her own character lore and a connection to the Watchers that isn't about a man. In a fandom space where women are constantly defined by their relationships with men and with a character who had as tragic a story as Lizzie, I would love for some of her lore to be about her and her alone. Connections to Jimmy and Joel are awesome! I love reading them! But I don't want that to be the only thing about her, even if that's what you would talk about if she were a man. She's not a man, she's a woman in a space where women are often mistreated or only seen as extensions of men. So even if you genuinely would say the same things about a man I just want you to challenge yourself to dig a little deeper with her character and find ways to give her something that is wholly and truly her own.
She had her own plans for revenge that went horribly wrong and ultimately led to her death! Even in her vengeful anger, she held a soft spot for Pearl because she remembered how she saved her in Session 1! She was forgotten and ignored by almost everyone! She tried to cheer herself up by doing something harmless and fun and that led to her being punched and then murdered for no reason! She wasn't even angry at Jimmy when he accidentally murdered her because she felt like it was her own fault! She tried so hard at everything she did and it still wasn't enough! She knew no one would come to save her from the caves! The only thing she asked of anyone was for them to come to her slumber party and still only one person showed up for her! She was forced to turn on her own husband to complete her task! She tried to make it up to him and it led to her being out of the game! No one even gave her a funeral when she was gone! She was forgotten and ignored in both life and death! There is so much more to her than being motivation for a man or breaking a man's curse, even if those are big things that happened.
Again, I'd like to make it very clear that I'm not angry about the way Lizzie has been treated, I'm mostly joking whenever I say things like in the original post. It's mostly just a feeling of "Come on I know we can do better than that!" And in the past few days I've seen a lot of people do some really amazing things with her character! So much amazing art and fanon lore! This isn't even a huge issue anymore because a lot of people have begun to explore her individual character now that the excitement about the Canary Curse has died down. This post is just an explanation for people who were asking questions or weren't sure what people meant in some posts from earlier in the week.

Yup, finally time to talk about Trazyn...
I put it off because hey, everyone else deserves some love and attention...but Trazyn deserves more, sorry he is just built different.
It will probably shock no one that Trazyn is my favorite 40k character. He's what got me into Warhammer in the first place. I imagine I'm not the only one who went through the "oh, funny meme steal guy lol" to "guess I'll read Infinite and the Divine" to "can't be invited to parties because I refuse to think about anything that's not Necrons or my new plastic crack addiction" pipeline.
But why is this weird sexy space kleptomaniac so compelling? The answer might surprise you!
(it won't for a while but bear with me there's a twist coming)
Why do we all like Trazyn? First of all, he's easy to grasp. Indiana Jones meets the Collector in 40k. One sentence and you know what he's about. That's invaluable for pitching a character. And then you watch him and he's clever, he's hyper-competent, he's funny. In the grimdark future, this guy makes you laugh! He screws with everyone. And yeah, he's easy to meme, but that's just part of his charm.
He fits into nearly any 40k story too. Space Marines? Aeldar? Chaos? Tau? Trazyn wants an artifact and he's messing with *insert main characters here* to get it. Or maybe *insert main characters here* need something and he's the only one who has it. Doesn't really matter what or why, the second Trazyn shows up he can play off anyone. As an uneasy ally, an opponent in a negotiation, or in a fight. He has an incredible dry wit that makes him super entertaining (especially in a setting where characters can be a bit...serious).
And Trazyn ultimately has pretty sympathetic motives. He wants to preserve, to collect, and tell stories through his museum. Museums are cool! Culture is neat! Sure he's a bit...unethical, but he's far from the worst dude in 40k so he's very easy to root for, even if he's a side character or antagonist.
So yeah, witty, devious, immortal museum curator. Perfect character, right?
Well...here's that twist.
Trazyn is actually (in my opinion) really, really hard to write for as a protagonist of his own story.
See most commercial fiction is structured around a character who wants something, but something else gets in their way. Frodo wants to take the ring to Mordor but all of middle earth plus some evil wizards, orcs, giant spiders, etc. are in the way. The issue with Trazyn (on paper) is that he doesn't truly want anything. Sure there are specific artifacts and people he wants for his collection, but that's surface level. Hunting down random cool space stuff is not a change from his day to day, so focusing a whole story around that might be fun for a while, but it wouldn't stick with you. Because any deep, emotional desires he has are fulfilled. He has power, he has purpose, he has his own planet that shapes itself to his will.
Trazyn is used to being in control. Of Solemnace, of his expeditions, of his negotiations. If plan A goes south he has twelve other options, and a few back up plans, and probably an ork warband attached to his belt if he needs it. Oh, and he's immortal. And can't be hurt. Which again, is hella fun, but how do you have suspense or stakes with all of that? How do you write an interesting story for the guy that has everything?
Enter Orikan.
Orikan is one of the only things that introduces chaos into Trazyn's existence. Orikan can break into Trazyn's house, break his stuff, and get away with it. When Orikan is around, the things Trazyn loves are in danger. Orikan shattered relics from their people's history and Trazyn failed to save them. He tried to catch one piece and it shattered because his hand was metal. The thing that usually makes him untouchable contributed to his loss. That is heartbreaking to read. Sure he can fight elves and dinosaurs and steal the most incredible things, but Trazyn can be made vulnerable in the right circumstances.
The thing he wants throughout Infinite and the Divine is not the McGuffin Mysterios. It's revenge. But because Orikan is his equal and opposite, he can't get it easily. There's an obstacle. Which means we have a story on our hands.
There's another scene that I find really striking from that book: Trazyn and his human assistant on Serenade. This old man who Trazyn kinda...mind controlled into service, but also provided him and his family with the best education, medical care, career opportunities etc. Trazyn didn't have to do that, but he is the type of greedy where if something is "his" he takes care of it. That includes (for better or worse) that human man and his family. Blips on the radar to an immortal being, but those are Trazyn's blips so they get the best a blip can ask for (aside from free will but shhhhhh.)
But that doesn't mean Trazyn can prevent the inevitable. His assistant gets old without him even noticing. The man has reached the end of his life, and that is something Trazyn can't control. And he's emotional about it. Not like devastated (it's just a human after all, basically his hamster just died) but it throws him for a loop.
Oh hey, speaking of how Trazyn takes care of things that he considers his...
Trazyn never really gets close to killing Orikan. He says he wants to. He acts like it. That's the story we set up. Trazyn shoots him in the face. But does he try to permanently kill Orikan? Does he ever act with any true cruelty?
He does once. When Orikan was weak and vulnerable, Trazyn crushed Orikan's skull with his foot, and that's so out of character it's our clearest indication as a reader that something is wrong. That's when we realize the song has Trazyn ensnared because normally he would not do that. He wouldn't treat his greatest enemy and rival that way which is... certainly interesting.
And then of course there's that scene at the end. When Orikan is burned and afraid and unable to defend himself, Trazyn doesn't even try to hurt him. He is gentle, careful, he makes sure Orikan isn't permanently damaged. After everything they've done to each other over 10,000 years (and that's just the events of the book, their rivalry is older), it doesn't even occur to Trazyn to harm Orikan in that moment.
That to me is the real secret that makes Trazyn more than a meme character. That greed that makes him care for things, cultures, places, and people. Those moments where he isn't in control. The combination of the two that means something is at stake. He has a deep love for the universe despite this being such a nihilistic setting. That love drives him to do ridiculous things, but that's the core (I think) of why we love watching him cavort around the galaxy so much.

So in comics there's definitely been and are characters that everyone just agrees that they have to die.
And stay dead.
Think of Thomas and Martha Wayne, Uncle Ben etc.
Now these have changed from what they were initially
After Death in the Family, Jason Todd was supposed to stay dead.
And he did, for 17 years before coming back as the Red Hood.
Like there was a fake out in Batman: Hush that it was Jason and it was wild.
Bucky Barnes, also meant to stay dead and did so for 37 years.
... 37?!
Before becoming the Winter Soilder.
And these aren't in universe years, this is real world time.
Now it's hard to imagine them not wandering about.
So I'm trying to think what 3 characters I think should stay dead.
At least for the forcible future.
And who's dead that should be bought back.
.
Staying dead: Jason Grace (Percy Jackson: Heroes of Olympus.)
Yeah... I know.
I love him I'm still holding out hope he will return but I don't think it's coming.
I say think because... Leo.
Jason Grace is the perfect example of, I followed the rules, I did everything I was supposed to and I still lost everything.
He's the perfect soilder, the paragon of heroism and he fell sacrificing himself to save his friends.
I think it's best if Jason stays dead because his death is used to show the fragility of human life.
Of the harrowing lives demigods lead.
His final words are punctuated by him staring at Lester, Apollo in his eyes as he's stabbed.
And telling him to remember.
Remember what you saw, remember the way my life drained from eyes.
Remember this day, and know I'm not the first nor the last.
It's such a powerful moment.
Especially because Apollo gets to know Jason and is hit throughout the book that Jason is so young.
That he's just a kid.... that they all are.
Demigods aren't promised happy endings.
Most don't live to be adults, and it's perfectly and tragically shown perfectly through Jason's death.
He just got the life he wanted, found out Leo's alive... And than in a moment it was all gone.
Also, for Jason who's served 14 years at 16, he deserves to rest a while.
.
Coming back to life: Summer Rose (RWBY)
Didnt see that coming, I was very much on the "Oh my gosh can we not... Can she just stay dead" train.
Now look at me.
To be fair we know more than we did than and I am really interested to know what happened to Summer.
What happened to STRQ in general to be honest. The tragic death that no one speaks of.
Who's events seem to be only known by Summer herself.
And with the rise of Grimm like the Hound, a beast made of both grimm and silver eyed warriors.
With the note from Ruby and Yang that Summer could have been the turning point.
From Salem killing silver eyed warriors to capturing them.
Given Salem was trying to kill Maria when she was young, now am old lady. And has only ever tried to capture Ruby.
That and Grimm Summer is just the concept ever, I wanna see Summer Rose the paragon of being a huntress be an underling for Salem.
Especially if she's not as reluctant of a follower as we may believe.
.
Staying dead: Junko Enoshima (Danganronpa)
Junko is that werid one of I want her to stay dead but like keep her memory alive.
Because it makes sense too, woman caused the apocalypse.
And if we're still operating in that universe it makes sense she'd be bought up, especially after the fact.
But I don't think Junko herself should be bought back.
I get why they did it in Danganronpa 2 because it made sense.
But after, I don't think Junko needs to keep being our main bad guy.
I think exploring the word, her followers and hell people have nothing to do with her would be a lot of fun.
If they do bring her back I'm not gonna be mad, just think hey if we can have multiple protags it'd be fun to have multiple villians too.
She can't carry all of this on her own.
If they do bring her back, kinda defeats the purpose of her death.
Of why it meant so much to her, why she had to lose to Makoto the ultimate hope and her own class.
She lost but she also won.
It's such a huge thing and to bring her back and than kill her later it really deminishes the impact her death had.
... That and...She'd need a whole new body because who knows what happened to her corpse.
.
Coming back to life: Matsuda Yasuke (Danganronpa)
Speaking of followers of Junko I'd like to see.
We know little about Matsuda, given he's only appeared in Danganronpa Zero.
I think him being around would be really interesting especially in a world where Junko stays dead.
Because Matsuda is that complex thing of being someone infatuated and in love with Junko.
He was her childhood friend and boyfriend after all.
But also someone who wants her to change.
He created a version of her devoid of despair and he'd be happy to keep her that way.
Which is a unique perspective because most Junko followers think she's the most perfect thing ever.
And I think having that perspective would make for an interesting story.
Because no one really sees Junko as a fully realised person, not even Mukuro her own sister.
Also even aside from Junko, Matsuda also plays a huge role in the killing game's.
He's the one responsible for the memory wipes.
Being the Ultimate Neurologist.
I personally would love to see the memory stuff explored given it was always second to the killing games.
I get why but it's so cool and not something we talk enough about. Wonder if he was scouted by Hope's Peak not just for having a talent but for it's usages.
Say... The Kamakura project 👀.
I dunno but I think Junko's boy toy deserves some time in the spotlight.
.
Staying dead: The Grabber (The Black Phone)
His death was not only deserved.
It was fucking satisfying.
Watching Finney use everything the other boys gave him to beat that fucker.
That has kept him hostage, killed several others and is now getting his just deserts.
Was glorious.
... And I'm well aware that there's a sequel coming.
And I'm just hoping he stays dead.
Because not only do the ghost boys, Finney and Gwenny deserve to rest.
The Grabbers death was just perfectly set up and delivered so brutally.
That him being alive and returning to die later kinda ruins the ending.
Because it's Finney's fight to freedom.
I mean if that's the way they go with it, I can't say I'm not intrigued but yeah... Not in a rush to see him again.
Would much rather see someone else wear that mask.
.
Coming back to life: Sammy Emily (Five nights at Freddy’s)
The fact everyone dies and comes back to life in this series.
But not Sammy is a crime.
I'm sorry but the story about the mysterious twin brother of the girl who becomes the puppet.
Is something I wanna see.
I know he's only been mentioned vaguely in the Silver Eyes books.
But that's only more reason.
Just Sammy who's thought be dead for years raised by his mother and having an unexplainable connection to Freddys.
I mean tons of kids in the Fazbear Frights books have been drawn or compelled to go to Freddys.
His would make the most sense.
Maybe Williams after him?
Maybe it's Charlie in the Pizzaplex recognising and calling out to him.
Maybe he's the new night guard at the place trying to figure out what happened here... And why it feels familiar.
Maybe he knows about Freddy’s but he knows Charlie was taken and killed.
A parallel to Charlie thinking it was him in the original books.
Maybe he's out for revenge or just trying to find his missing sister.
There's so many possibilities.
I'm just saying if we can get a book about Sea Bonnie's we can get a Sammy Emily story.
.
Well that's my list.
Feel free to add your own, I'm curious.

ahem
What are your OC's traumas?
thank you for asking *grabs em like a squishy toy*
it's not all of 'em but it is the ones i thought about the most!
Tumblr media
Amulet.
"An ornament or small piece of jewelry thought to give protection against evil, danger, or disease."
Her story is fairly uncertain and unknown, even by her closests of friends, but most objects consider her to be cursed in ways that others fear, though it isn't intentional. She has been around for a very long time, and has been through many experiences already. Being an Amulet Of Protection, she's meant to protect others from any type of harm, and that's her duty as a whole. However, this ability tends to be sharp on the both ends, but she doesn't realize this. It acts upon her wishes, and her wishes were always to protect those who cannot protect themselves. She had a pretty decent life nonetheless with a group of friends that she loved deeply, but things took an 360° turn one day. Someone came back for her, and the reckless, brave Amulet, disappeared. Instead of wishing the protection of others, she wished for her own, she decided to be "selfish" for once in her life,
And ended up losing everyone she loved. She was safe, but everyone else she loved was now gone. The guilt she felt was so awful that she ran away and was never seen again, never tried to get friends, a family, or peace again. Because in her own words, that's the dream of a coward that won't confront her faults. Many years have pased, and she's not up for the "third time's the charm" phrase, but perhaps, she can finally get some courage to stand up and fight for herself.
Or maybe not.
After all, why even bother? It's all pointless.
Cursed with her own being, it is now up to her, will she give in, or will she fight to protect the new people in her life?
Tumblr media
Ribbon:
"Darkness conceals all the sentiments. All the blames. In the depths of the crimson sea, hopes rest. Don't surrender."
Ribbon came from a very wonderful place, despite the thoughts that she has of it. Was surrounded by loving people, and ultimately had a pretty great life. Despite this, she was pretty important to this place due to her connection with the stars and strange properties. At one point, someone who she had trusted, a very close friend of hers, ended up betraying her. Which sure it hurted, but she can't bring herself to be mad at him. She doesn't know the reasons, since her memory doesn't want to cooperate. Thanks to this, it escalated to a whole fight in the place in which she was living with another one, and at one point, they got her and... everything she loved was now gone.
They broke her enough to the point in which she... was no longer herself. Prepared to spill blood and cause havoc, she was feared by those who adored her. But at one point, thanks to someone she loved, she came back to her senses, and escaped from there, not without taking care of the one that caused such pain. Years passed, her whole appearance changed to a softer one, and she seems to be rather cheerful and lovely. Like nothing happened.
But truth is... that she doesn't want to remember anything. She was weak. She wasn't able to save them. She was so young when it all happened. She can't remember. Her story is incomplete.
Tumblr media
Light:
"Hold tight to this time, to this place cause, everything you know will be erased."
Light's story is unknown, just like Amulet's. However, it seems to be the main reasons as to why it's so... hollow, in a way. Their crystal is always radiant and full of colors, but their aspect is dull and dark. They seem to be scared of meeting new objects or interacting with anyone of that nature. After you lost something you worked so hard for, there's no point in trying anymore. He...
He can't tell what's real or what is fake. He feels too out of place. He doesn't seem to be able to talk about it.
But think of it as in, the sea taking away what was dear to you. A sand castle is usually the first thought. But it wasn't that for him.
Tumblr media
Rose:
"So I dance with brown bears, and my soul is torn apart."
Two siblings who once wanted to host a show, they fought against eachother because one of them had darker intentions, contestants could not be brought back to life. Rose tried to stand up for the remaining contestants when he found out the truth, and helped them escape... and everyone was happy...
That's not how it happened.
he is a traitor.

all right fuck it let's talk redcloak
i will say it's been years since i read start of darkness, and i've since lost my copy of it, so i only sort of remember what happened in it, but i recall it establishing that redcloak is the king of the sunk-costs fallacy, and it really becomes clear with his brother.
he has to pull this off. he killed his own beloved brother for this, it has to be worth it. he has to make it be worth it.
and he has his moment of revelation at the battle for azure city, that he's been treating the hobgoblins as fodder -- the way that everyone else treats his goblins -- even though they're the same species. they're all goblins, tarred with the same brush.
and like... he's not really wrong. the goblins were fucked from the start, created to be nothing more than walking xp for adventurers, robbed of their chance to have their own lands or gods or homes. he is absolutely right to campaign for goblin equality. it's hard to blame him for taking every step necessary.
and then durkon meets with him.
and durkon negotiates, he argues pretty convincingly that following the plan, as-is, will destroy everyone, goblins included, and that -- while imperfect -- if they live and the dark one becomes a god on the same tier as thor, things can begin to improve for the goblins. it will take time, it will be a hard uphill battle, but they can make it happen. they can work this out.
and redcloak can't relent. he can't accept that. he has to make this all be worth it, and a generations-long war of attrition against speciesism to bring his people onto equal footing isn't good enough. and like. i get that. it's not the perfect solution he wants. it's not the glorious revolution where everything is magically better on the other side of it.
it's the exact same mindset of probably millions of online leftists right now: this "solution" you're offering, of clawing our way through incremental change to ultimately create a better world we will never see, as opposed to our "solution" of violent revolution now that puts our guy in charge who will somehow magically fix everything as soon as everyone realizes we were right all this time -- is unacceptable. redcloak is a bolshevik. he's a communist revolutionary, he's lenin. he's standing up for the oppressed, he's Fighting The Good Fight, he thinks the ends will justify the means, even if that means includes his own death, because it will mean that he died trying to make things better for his people.
he doesn't see that this "solution" is doomed to fail. if not because of flaws inherent to itself, because the world itself will crumble around him if he doesn't let go of this fantasy of a perfect ending.
and when he tries to kill durkon and casually asks, how many goblins have you killed? and durkon replies, carving redcloak entirely bare, straight to the core:
not as many as you.
redcloak is the arbiter of his own destruction. he's a walking sunk-costs fallacy. he had good intentions. he meant well. he isn't wrong, at the core. but he has to make this all be worth it. he has to justify the moment where he killed his own brother.
he's an incredibly compelling villain, magnificently well-written and deep, and it's like... he's beyond redemption, he proved that when he tried to kill durkon instead of taking his offer seriously. and that's a tragedy. because redcloak just wanted his people to be treated like people. but he hitched his wagon to xykon, and he kept spiraling down and further down, and now...
i honestly have no idea how redcloak's story ends. does he turn on xykon in the clutch and save his people at the bottom of things? does the dark one abandon him and force him to face the mirror, the fact that this hasn't been about his people for a long time? does he die screaming, cast into the rift or destroyed by the snarl? does --
i genuinely can't guess. and I don't know what the "correct" ending for him is. i do think the dark one is necessary to containing the snarl -- but what of what's inside the snarl? and what happened to laurin when she looked into it? and --
ugh, this story is so good, and redcloak is such a damn amazing villain. i admit that i'm a sucker for the sunk-costs fallacy villain, who started off with good intentions but kept going further and further down in the pursuit of their goals, until they no longer know just what they're fighting for anymore, except to make this all be worth it.
and redcloak is one of -- if not the -- best examples of that i've ever seen.

The Beauties - Dream of the Endless Imagine (The Sandman)
Tumblr media
Title: The Beauties
Pairing: Dream of the Endless X Reader
Word Count: 2,288 words
Warning(s): mentions of kidnapping/being held hostage
Summary: Every part of life has two sides. The beauty and the horror. Both sides work together to form a story for every last one of us. (Y/n) had long accepted the horrors. The beauties were not as easily identified. Or so they thought.
Author's Note: Y'all, I think I went a little crazy with this one. I've been binge-watching this show all day.
-----------------------------
Magic had this beauty to it.
I had long called it "The Beauty of the Accidental".
Great discoveries could often occur when someone was looking for something completely different.
Me... I was looking for a way to heal people. Fix them. No matter their condition. Well, no matter their condition besides death. Avoiding upsetting the balance of the universe and all.
I failed, in a way. In another way, I discovered something better than healing, yet worse than death.
Immortality.
The dream of so many people throughout history. The theories and stories. Legends and equations. All searching to beat the ultimate enemy. Death.
I had won.
At first, it was beautiful.
So much to do and see. People to save and protect. It was glorious. I had found a true purpose.
But it could only stay that way for so long.
You soon realize that with the curse of immortality you can't have true happiness. You outlive everyone you could love. Family and friends and lovers. I never entertained the chance of having children. I was cursed to live a life of being completely alone.
And running.
I couldn't go unnoticed forever.
Some people wanted my gift. And they were willing to hunt me for it.
My dream had been to find salvation. And I found it. I thought.
Roderick Burgess.
Promised me secrecy. A safe place to call home. Somewhere that would be left without the threat of being some kind of experiment. I believed it until I was told of the creature being hid in the basement.
I had a pattern of finding the uglier sides of every piece of what the universe offered me.
I walked into the cellar with minimal knowledge of what I was going to see. Just a few names and ideas.
"Hello," I said quietly, approaching the glass bubble.
His eyes dragged from the ground to me. I almost wanted to hide from his gaze. It was... intense. For lack of a better word.
I didn't move my eyes from his as I spoke to the guards, "Leave us."
"Excuse me-"
"Leave us," I repeated.
The pair slowly walked out. I didn't speak again until I was sure they were gone.
"I should ask them to give you some kind of blanket," I said, keeping my eyes trained on his face. "At least return some of your dignity."
The entity didn't speak up even now that we were alone. I was told that he had remained silent throughout his stay here.
"I know who you are if that gives you... any... comfort," I continued. "King of Dreams, yes?"
Still, silent.
"Stories spread," I explained. "I have... been around for a while. I've heard much about you."
I felt silly. Of course, I did. I was trying to begin a conversation with a brick wall. A brick wall being held against his will in a snow globe.
"I have heard other names as well," I tried to make myself trustworthy. I don't think it was working. "Morpheus?"
For just a moment, I saw something on his face change. It was gone as fast as it had appeared.
"You would tell me if you had a preference, yes?"
Nothing.
"You actually probably wouldn't. You've been silent for weeks now."
Not a sound.
"My name's (Y/n), by the way. (Y/n) (Y/l/n)."
Was he trying to glare hard enough to burn a hole through my head?
I let out a sigh. "You are not the only thing that Roderick has been studying."
Silence.
"A long time ago, I solved the puzzle of immortality," I said. "Not on purpose, but I did it. I've been around for a long time. Roderick offered me protection, but... I can see him taking notes on me. I just wonder when he'll begin dissecting me."
I shook my head. It was like I was reminding myself to only say so much.
"I understand why you didn't give him what he wanted. Immortality for anyone is a curse... for a man like him... it would be a danger to everyone else."
He moved slightly.
"I should go," I finally muttered. "I just wanted you to know that someone here is on your side. In some way."
I was just walking away from the sphere when I heard another voice. "I don't care."
I turned around again. "Excuse me?"
"My name," it was the man. Speaking at last. "I don't care what name you use."
I couldn't help but grin as I nodded. "I understand. I think I'll stick to Morpheus. Suits you."
I saw the smallest hint of a grin grace his lips.
"Good night, Morpheus."
He just nodded his head to me.
It wasn't until I got upstairs that I realized how stupid it probably was to wish the king of dreams a good night.
After that night, I spent quite a lot of my time in the cellar.
Morpheus seemed comfortable with me there. He slowly started talking more with me. I would often bring down a book and try to read to him. I'd ask him to tell me stories. He knew about how I had become immortal. I knew why he was in this realm at all.
It all felt so natural with him.
It had been a very long time since I got the chance to feel comfortable with someone.
It still hurt to see him in the sphere. I just didn't know what to do about it. I had to sit with that anger and find a plan that wouldn't result in anyone getting hurt.
The night that Roderick's wife ran away, I felt my anger suddenly overtake my intelligent choice to make a plan. As if it somehow was the final straw. Something about her running made me want to run. I stormed into the cellar as soon as I could, finding the room empty.
Morpheus seemed more confused by my anger than anything. I placed my hand on the glass.
"I am getting you out," I promised. "Now. You don't deserve to be stuck here to entertain some old man's sick wishes."
He furrowed his eyebrows at me.
"Is that right?"
I turned around to see Roderick standing by the door.
"I offer you protection and this is how you repay me," he asked. "What has he told you? How did you convince him to speak to you?"
I clenched my jaw.
"Maybe I've had this all wrong," he stepped toward me. "I've been giving him a shot at freedom when really... I just need to figure you out."
I shook my head. "I won't tell you anything."
"I know. I didn't say I was going to ask."
There was suddenly a gun pointed at me.
"Don't move."
I held my hands up, letting two of his men grab my arms and start dragging me out of the cellar.
"You can stop this," he offered Morpheus. "Save them and be free. Give me what I what."
"Don't give him anything," I shouted. "I am not worth the hell he'll bring."
"Shut your mouth!"
I didn't hear anything after that. I was too far away.
I was completely alone for years after that. In a sphere of my own. No powers, but they still wanted me in one.
I took a note from Morpheus's book. Silent. No matter what. The best that I could do.
I stopped counting the years at some point. Marking the passage of time didn't help anything. All it did was remind me that I had an endless life... and I was living it in a cage.
Morpheus was the one who got me out.
And then, he was gone.
For a day, at least. I found myself in a hotel room for the night, just trying to make my way through.
And he came back. Like he just had a meeting to get to.
"Morpheus," I said softly when I saw him.
"(Y/n)," he nodded.
I stepped forward slowly. When he didn't move, I rushed forward and hugged him. He very hesitantly hugged me back.
"I thought he had killed you," he said slowly. "Or his son."
"I'm okay," I mumbled before stepping back. "Because of you. You saved me."
He just nodded. "I need to get my things."
"Okay," I replied. "I'll help you."
"No, it's not safe."
"I spent the last century locked away in the house of a very evil man," I explained. "Give me a chance to see the world... the realms... now that I can appreciate what's happened to me. Please."
He didn't say anything. He just nodded again. I grinned at him.
There wasn't another conversation about why I had stuck around. Not for a little while, anyway. Morpheus just seemed to accept it for a while.
Until we left Johanna Constantine. Something about what she said. About how those close to her end up dead made Morpheus ask questions. Specifically, ask questions of me.
"Why have you followed me," Morpheus asked.
"I... I thought you needed help," I replied.
"I told you to leave."
"In my experience, those who ask you to leave when you're trying to help are often the ones that need your help the most."
He stopped walking. I took a few steps ahead of him before slowing to a stop. I turned back to him.
"I am right, aren't I? You need my help."
His jaw clenched as he stepped toward me.
"Morpheus?"
"I don't believe you," he said.
"What," I asked, scoffing in the hopes of making it seem more like disbelief than just shock.
"I've known you for over a hundred years now. I can tell when you're lying to me."
My smile slowly fell, nervousness and fear starting to crash over me. I didn't want to confront this. At all. I wanted to avoid this and remain friends with him. That would cause me far less trouble than trying to explain that I had caught feelings for the immortal being.
"Some of those years we never saw each other. I was locked away so we couldn't plan an escape."
"All I ask of you is the truth," he continued, ignoring my statement as he took another step forward.
My breath sped up. He was so close. Were his eyes always this bright? I thought it was just due to the glass sphere and the light. But they truly were just that beautiful and intense.
"Tell me the truth."
"It's not important."
"It is to me."
"We can worry about this when we get your things back-"
"(Y/n)-"
"Stop it."
"Tell me."
"I love you," I snapped. I blinked away the tears that were suddenly finding a home in my eyes. "I... I have had feelings for you for years. And I couldn't do anything about it because we were both held hostage and even if that hadn't happened, you would never give me another glance because what am I? I am just a stupid human that cursed themself and was forced to see every ugly part of life."
I closed my eyes before stepping back, going to finally leave like he had asked me to. Morpheus caught my wrist, stopping me. I turned back to face him. For once, the look in his eyes didn't seem overwhelmingly intense.
It was gentle.
Soft.
He was trying to show sympathy.
The look only got worse as he stepped forward and his hand moved to hold mine instead of gripping my wrist. He moved forward again when he saw that I wasn't going to move.
I had never allowed myself to imagine the two of us so close. His hand holding mine. I never wanted to indulge in those small, innocent fantasies because I knew they would never happen. At least, not because he wanted them to.
I felt the need to hold onto that knowledge now.
"I do not want you to entertain my hopes all in the name of pity," I mumbled as I studied him.
His beauty was entirely unfair. Unfair and enchanting. No one deserved to be so... distracting. Especially when his lips rested mere inches from mine. Too close to be a mistake. Too close to avoid or ignore later.
"Good," he said simply. As if completely unaware of where he was standing. "Because I am doing this in the name of my own selfishness."
His lips touched mine before I could question the nature of his statement. I felt frozen where I stood. The world stopped turning, time stopped passing, space stopped moving. We had entered our own plane of existence.
I only felt myself kissing him back when he started leaning away from me. My hands found the edge of the jacket he was wearing, pulling him close to me again.
"All those years," I muttered as I finally pulled away from him. I kept my eyes closed. Like he was only a figment of my imagination, and he would be gone if I opened my eyes. "Accidentally making myself immortal, watching you alone in that bubble, getting locked in my own, the person I trusted to protect me trying to force the secret of my gift out of me."
His hands seemed to tighten on my sides. Faint sign of anger? Guilt? I had no idea.
"All of those things," I finally opened my eyes. "Was that destiny, Morpheus? The universe forcing me to your side? Would I ever be able to have avoided those events that led me to you?"
"Would you care if they were?"
I leaned in again, lips brushing his again. "No."
He pecked my lips again before he spoke, "Then, neither do I."
And as his lips met mine, I knew that I never would.

Regarding canon Sasori do you think if anyone had told him he mattered beyond being a tool it would have made a difference? (I guess it depends on who's talking. I kind of wish Chiyo and Sasori had crossed paths again in the war arc or Sakura. Either of them. Both of them. Ugh) But beyond that, would have changed anything if Chiyo had just straight up told him that when they fought the first time. That he mattered or that she had loved him?)
TLDR; hmm really depends on how far gone he is at that point!
Long Version (sorry)
I often call Sasori a narratively failed Gaara. Similar to Sasori, Gaara couldn't see himself as a person beyond his abilities and use to the village (which is why the sand siblings were there in the Chunin Arc, Gaara to carry out the main job and for his siblings to make sure he didn't go crazy before that). He experienced nothing but rejection and outright hate not only from the village that raised him but also from the people closest to him. He didn't believe he mattered before meeting someone (Naruto) who tried to emphasize with him.
It is not a coincidence that the arc that focuses around Gaara realising he is loved beyond his use to the village is the same arc that features Sasori as the main villain. It's a parallel that Kishimoto himself has commented on, albeit vaguely, saying that the arc was about Naruto being the guiding light to Gaara's darkness, helping him escape that darkness, while also saying that Sasori's fight has a "hidden" theme that the reader should figure out for themselves.
Tumblr media
I point this out because, as you said, Sasori did presumably not experience any of this, explaining that he became a literal tool and views everyone around him as one as well. He cannot or does not want to see the humanity in them because he cannot embrace the humanity in himself, due to never having experienced being truly valued as a human being, in line with the shinobi doctrine esp in the elder generations. The reason he finally gave up in that fight was seeing Sakura, someone he didn't know at all, and Chiyo, someone he (THOUGHT HE) knew very well, continously protecting each other, despite knowing the risks it brought. They're not willing to abandon each other despite telling each other several times to do so, and it shocks Sasori, seeing that the humanity in both of them is what ultimately defeats him.
So now we get to your question: Would it have changed anything if Chiyo apologized to him upfront? Consequently, why didn't she say anything?
This is where I have to bring the failed Gaara narrative back. Gaara, who had his turnaround between 12-15, being obviously somewhat (not completely) forgiven by his village, seeing how hard Naruto & Konoha fight to save him from the Akatsuki. Sasori had at that point been pointlessly chasing, kidnapping and killing shinobi he percieved to be valueable, working with a known terrorist group, and living with his untreated mental illness for at the very least 20 years. Sasori happens to be one of the few Akatsuki Kishimoto did not decide to keep alive or keep around to become useful to the protagonists later on, and I think it was a very conscious decision of him to do so. Now I will not claim morality on the topic of death in Naruto, but it is obvious that narratively Kishimoto seperates death that is justifable and death that has no purpose. Sasori, unfortunately, in the eyes of the narrator and in the eyes of his peers, is not redeemable at that point in the story.
So, would a heart to heart between Sasori and Chiyo changed anything? Maybe. I struggle, however, with the rest of the Gaara plot points. I can't see anyone vouching for him BEYOND his usefulness to Suna, which is what ended up happening in the confrotation with Kankuro in the War Arc, and that is obviously not something that we would want for him. Let's not forget that Sasori wasn't simply killed off; he chose to die. Why did he do that? Maybe because he knew there would be no redemption for him, having lived so long the way he did. With his grandmother gone, who would be left to forgive him, vouch for him and defend him? Sakura? When he's a jaded criminal freak in her eyes canonically? I'm not that delusional y'all hahaha
I would have loved to see the re-up in the War Arc for a final co-op, but I personally didn't think it would make sense for Sasori to stick around after that. In fact, one person it absolutely would have made sense for, who had already been essentially forgiven by his village and had people who still liked him, and who most importantly was still a kid, was Deidara. Not Sasori.
That is why, ultimately, I like to focus on a Sasori that still has a chance for redemption and that isn't given the chance for his mental struggles to fester for that long. Maybe not being made to graduate from the academy and fight wars when he hadn't even hit puberty wouldn't be so bad, could maybe prevent him going bonkers and wiping out his Kage and half of Wind Country. Obviously, something would need to be done for Chiyo to change her mind and see her faults as well, and what better opporturnity is there to bring in our fav loud Leaf shinobi. =) That way we could see a true turnaround similar to Gaara in my opinion!
and that is why I am so annoying about this specific aspect thanks for coming to my TED Talk

Ed and reading, learning how to
So I love Stede teaching Ed to read as much as the next person, but having given it some thought, I don't think it would actually work out, not right away. To his credit, I think Stede would be an incredibly passionate teacher. The guy loves books and he's so generous with his things to everyone, but especially to Ed. He'd be delighted to share this passion. But I don't think Stede would be a good teacher, not for Ed who's used to learning practically.
We've seen that Stede can have trouble meeting people where they are at. He doesn't get that Mary doesn't want to live at sea, he's surprised when the crew doesn't take to his managing style right away and he's very insistent on doing a treasure hunt, even though Ed clearly isn't interested. It all comes from a good place, a desire to give something to the people in his life, but he's not very good at recalibrating when it turns out those people don't want the same things.
And then there's Ed who, well – cue gifset of him giving up as soon as things get hard (someone please link it I can't find it anywhere ;-;). He would go in super confident and lose it all in a matter of minutes when they sit down and it turns out that, actually, this is much harder than Stede made it sound. He would lose track of Stede's explanation and sit there, quietly panicking. He keeps humming and 'yep'ing to save face but that doesn't hold up when Stede asks him a question. He would get flustered. It feels like table etiquette all over again. He can hear them laughing, can hear the voice of that Spanish guy berating him.
"Donkey".
You'd be laughed out of town for trying to teach a donkey to read. Ed is just not built for this, he's not that type of person, not smart like Stede. He'd push back his chair and mutter about something on deck that needs his supervision.
Stede manages to coax Ed back a couple of times but they never make it through a lesson. Ed always finds a reason to leave. He seems to become more stubborn and short-tempered with every attempt.
Stede struggles to see where the problem lies. Ed seemed interested in reading so why is he acting like Stede is torturing him? He tries some different approaches but they all involve sitting down for extended periods of time. It's always too much at once and it doesn’t change that Ed ultimately sees himself as undeserving. After a while, they would both get frustrated and call the whole thing off.
Which is why I want to propose to you:
Ed teaching himself how to read (to a degree).
If Ed's gonna learn how to read, I think it needs to be driven by his own curiosity, on his terms, without feeling any judgement.
So what if it just starts with words that he likes, words he thinks look pretty. Ed loves anything fancy and delicate. Calligraphy must be mesmerising to him. The slanted letters, the loops, the quills. He plays with Stede’s quills all the time, likes to brush them on his face as he did with the cashmere. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ed developed a natural interest in words and writing. Maybe that’s what put Stede onto the idea for a reading class in the first place. Ed started asking Stede about particular words that he finds in Stede’s journal or books. He’ll ask Stede to read out words that look interesting to him. Sometimes he has a word in his head and he wants to know what it looks like written down. He’s tried a couple of times to copy the writing. It’s sloppy and it looks nothing like the consistent characters Lucius produces, but he’s having fun. There is no schedule or objective. He asks for assistance when he wants it and otherwise Stede lets him be. Ed just likes playing around with words and letters, comparing them, slowly deciphering some of the logic behind them.
This is not to say that Ed Teaches Himself How to Read™️. He wouldn’t be able to open a book and make sense of it. But eventually, he starts to recognise some of the characters. Bit by bit, he’s more able to break the little blobs up into recognisable components. When he’s studied enough letters, he might be able to recognise a word every once in a while, but that’s about it. Maybe this is the point where he gives Stede’s classes a(nother) go, when Ed has already built up his confidence and he has a way in, rather than starting from nothing and being completely overwhelmed.
The goal isn’t for Ed to become a bookworm. Ed needs to be hanging in the shrouds, throwing knives, strategising about how to blow the next ship to bits. Sitting still with a book for more than 5 minutes only works when he’s in Stede’s lap who plays with his hair as he reads aloud. It's enough that he can look at the cover and have a decent guess at what the story's about. It's enough that he knows enough letters to identify some place names on a map, even though he knows the map by heart. It's enough that sometimes he'll look over Stede's shoulder and he can point at a word he can read aloud. And Stede would look at him like he hangs the stars in the sky. He'd whisper a quiet compliment before pressing a kiss to Ed's cheek.
Ed doesn't have to read. It's just icing on the 40 orange-glaze cake.

Coldplay - Clocks - Christian Meaning
The Coldplay song Clocks could be interpreted as a Christian song. Chris Martin was raised in a Christian home, and he does talk about God sometimes in his interviews, so it seems that he puts Christian themes and messages in Coldplay songs. To me, it is one of my favorite songs of worship that is about trusting in God during hard times. Let's analyze the lyrics:
"The lights go out and I can't be saved Tides that I tried to swim against Have brought me down upon my knees Oh, I beg, I beg and plead"
These lines remind me a lot about the book of Psalms, where the writers often tell God their struggles and how they're having a hard time in life. In this song, it says the singer has been having struggles, but it's brought him down to his knees, like in prayer. The line "Oh, I beg, I beg and plead" is showing that the singer is having such a hard time in life that he is begging God to do something.
"Singin' come out of things un said Shoot an apple off my head And a trouble that can't be named A tiger's waiting to be tamed, singin'
You are You are"
The next part of the verse keeps talking about the struggles the singer is going through, but then in the chorus the tone changes with a simple "You are". It is very simple. Only two words. But it reminds me of one of God's names in the Old Testament I AM. How would you say I AM if you weren't God? Like, saying I am is referring to yourself. So how would you say it referring to someone else, like God? 'You are'. This line shows that through all the struggles and hardships in life, God is. "God is __(fill in the blank)__" Through all the struggles in life, God is good. God is just. God is love. God is there. I love this chorus so much because you can use fill in the blank in your mind with who God is in the midst of your trails and hard times and meditate on it, and so see the hope in your hardships.
"Confusion that never stops Closing walls and ticking clocks Gonna come back and take you home I could not stop that you now know Singin' come out upon my seas Cursed missed opportunities Am I a part of the cure Or am I part of the disease? Singin'
You are You are You are You are"
This is just kind of making the same point as before, but it's still powerful. However, there is more here than that. The lines "Confusion that never stops/Closing walls and ticking clocks/Gonna come back and take you home" could be interpreted that the confusion of life and the hard times bring us closer to God because in the hard times we have no where else to go. They come back to take us home, home to Jesus. Also, the line "Am I a part of the cure/Or am I part of the disease?" reminds me of the pharisees and hypocrites. Are we living a double life with God? Are we living in sin or living like the pharisees, in pride and using religion as a weapon to hurt others? Are we apart of the cure, to love everyone equally like God wants, or are we apart of the disease, to live in sin like the pharisees?
"You are You are
And nothing else compares Oh, no, nothing else compares And nothing else compares"
This bridge is probably my favorite part of the song. It goes back on the chorus to saying "You are", 'God is', and then the bridge says "and nothing else compares". Nothing else compares to who God is! Hallelujah! Through all the hard times and trails, God is there. He still loves you and is for you. And nothing else compares!
"You are You are
Home, home, where I wanted to go Home, home, where I wanted to go Home, home, where I wanted to go Home, home, where I wanted to go"
This last line is a bit tricky to interpret in a Christian way. Does Chris Martin mean home as in our earthly home or our heavenly home? I think it refers to our earthly home, as he says it's "where I wanted to go", meaning that he doesn't want to go here anymore. Our home isn't be on earth, in the next life. Our main satisfaction shouldn't be in this world, but in Jesus ultimately.
And that is how Clocks is a Christian song.

Let me down slowly
A/N : since the movie is kind of based on 'one more day' so here is a fic where the world actually forgets peter is Spiderman, this is also based on the 'a brand new day' comics. Hope you like this. Let me know what you think.
(Listen to let me down slowly by Alec Benjamin. Also there will be no part 2 to this)
Pairing : Peter Parker x Reader
Warnings : angst, missed typos
Tumblr media
"Be careful what you wish for Parker" that's the warning Strange gave Peter when he had asked him to cast a spell and make the world forget about his real identity behind the Spiderman mask. Peter never cared about his life so much but he couldn't see the people he loved getting hurt because of him and he knew exactly what he was putting at stake. All the precious moments he shared with May, Ned, MJ and you will fade away from your memories in the blink of an eye but this was the only way to keep you and everyone he cared for safe.
It wasn't easy for him to persuade his heart that ultimately he will end up losing you forever nevertheless he went forward with his decision. And just like that the spell was cast ripping open the multiverse changing time and reality forever.
It was like nothing had changed Peter woke up in his bed alone. The same old apartment he has been living in with his aunt all these years though now she was totally oblivious of his identity like before. Ned and MJ were by his side all the time like they used to, they don’t remember a thing except that spiderman had saved their lives every time they have fallen in some danger. He was back to being New York's admired masked vigilante.
The only thing that wasn't the same was you were no longer a part of his life. All those promises of loving each other forever now lay broken though it was never your fault because he never really gave you the choice. He knew you would never agree with his decision. He remembers the last time he saw you, you had kissed him and told "don’t do anything stupid spiderman" but he did what he had to. It’s true not all love stories have a happy ending so from two hopeless lovers now you’ve turned into two beautiful strangers.
After graduating high school you both ended up in the same college. He watched you from afar as you went through your day, attending classes and making new friends. You seemed to be so close to him yet so far out of his reach.
Peter tried to hold on to the little pieces he had of you in his memories wishing he had asked Strange to erase his memories of you as well. At least it would have hurt less. There wasn't a single moment Peter didn’t think of walking up to you and try to remind you of him, of the past you shared but he knew it would have been a futile attempt. Being with him never brought you any peace of mind. You were constantly worried for him and your life was always at risk due to his superhero life. But now you seem to be a lot more happier with a chance at a better life that he could have never given you.
He watched you fall in love again with none other than Harry Osborn who he had become good friends with. He tried to be happy for you but he clearly wasn't. How could he? When he is still not over you or will ever be. Every night he would find himself outside of your window reminiscing old memories of you patching up his wounds listening to his life problems later on cuddling to sleep in each other's arms forgetting all the woes of this world. He missed seeing you in his clothes, he missed your carefree laughter, he missed your warmth, he missed you and honestly he can't stop loving you.
For you it was like you woke up from a deep slumber and a sudden emptiness grasped onto you. A void was created in your life as you felt like you had lost someone very close to you but you couldn't remember them anymore no matter how hard you try.
And that feeling only intensified whenever you saw Peter. You only remember him as the geeky boy from highschool who is also Harry’s best friend now. But for some strange reason whenever you looked at him your heart clenched. It felt like you had known him for years and now everything is a blur.
You have often found yourself staring at your window expectantly at night as if you are waiting for someone to arrive but they never do. For some weird reason it felt so lonely and painful and you have no one to go to who could give you the answers to this current predicament in your life.
It was late in the evening when you were returning home from your part time job. You stopped at the crossing waiting for the traffic light to go red. Once it did you had just taken a step forward when a car came speeding in your direction. The strong headlights blinding your vision as your body curled up bracing yourself for whatever next is going to happen with you but miraculously you felt yourself being swept off your feet.
A strong muscular arm holding your body firmly against their chest and weirdly you felt safe, the warmth of their body instantly calming you down. It felt like you had lived this moment before it was almost like a deja vu. You finally dared to open your eyes and found yourself in the arms of spiderman. For a moment you just stared at his red spandex covered face but then you made the mistake of looking down. The height you were swinging across the city, scaring the life out of you as you buried your face in the crook of his neck clutching on to him tightly.
After sometime he sets you down on your feet, a hand still wrapped around your body protectively keeping you closer to him. You look around to find your were at the end of the street of your neighborhood.
"Are you alright, miss?" he finally speaks, the sound of his voice seemed awfully familiar to you.
"Yes, thank you very much for saving my life" you said to him, glancing at his face.
"That’s my duty as your friendly neighborhood spiderman" his words made you smile and Peter’s heart melted because it’s been a while that he was the reason behind your smile. For an unknown reason you had this feeling inside you that you actually might know the person behind that mask as you reached out a hand cradling the side of his face, your eyes trailed up and down studying his face carefully.
"Do I know you?" Peter almost teared up at your question. Part of him was ready to take the mask off right there and reveal his identity to you once again but the other part stopped him from doing that as he swallowed the lump in the back of his throat.
"We have met. In another life Y/N" saying so he shoots a web upward and swings away, leaving you wondering about what he meant by 'in another life'.

This is all platonic!
———————————————————————
Many people would say that having Tommy as a brother would be annoying. Having to grow up with him while he learns right from wrong. Knowing he has the special favoritism that comes with being the youngest child. Begrudgingly having to accept that the gremlin phase wasn’t a phase at all.
But Wilbur would have to disagree. Sure Tommy could be a prick, but it was all a facade. A silly show he put on for the outside world to see. And sometimes, the facade would leak into private times and he could be slightly unbearable. But the kid had his moments.
Take right now for example. Tommy was in the kitchen humming various songs while he baked. He was baking cookies from scratch and had made a mess, he had flour in his hair and god knows what was on the apron loosely tied around his waist.
Will was behind the boy, unbeknownst to him, and was about to comment on the state of the kitchen. He took in a breath and began to speak, “You do realize you’re going to be the one cleaning this up, right?”
Tommy swiftly turned around having been startled by the unexpected voice. Once he realized who it was, he simply turned back to what he was doing. “I’m sure if I leave it for long enough someone else will do it.” He jokingly replied.
Wilbur hummed. “What are you making anyways?” He questioned.
“Well-“ Tommy started, slightly embarrassed of what he was about to admit. “We’ve all been working really hard so I wanted to bake cookies and then we could all decorate them together. Or we could just eat them, I know you guys are busy and I don’t want to make you fall behind.” His rambling trailed off as he turned to face Wilbur, who had an adoring expression on his face.
“Awwww, Tommy!” Will said in a high pitched voice, closing the distance between himself and the boy and scooping him up in a hug. “That would be wonderful Tommy, I’m sure everyone will like it.”
Tommy jokingly grumbled at being fawned over. “Yeah yeah, whatever. Let me go, dickhead.” There was the facade.
Wilbur simply tightened his grip and rested his head on Tommy’s. “I’ll think about it later.”
“Wilburrrrr.” Tommy whined. He began squirming as an attempt to get out of the bear hug he was currently trapped in but fell still as an exaggerated gasp was heard.
“Nuh uh, none of that. It’s against the rules.” Wilbur responded to the attempt at freedom.
“What rules?” Tommy questioned, ignoring what he said and continuing to try and escape.
Will let out a laugh, “The rules, my rules.” He made his ‘rules’ up off the top of his head whenever it benefited him.
“I don’t have to follow any of your dumb rules and you can’t make me!” Tommy said matter-of-factly.
“Can too!” Wilbur replied in the typical older sibling tone before dropping his hands to Tommy’s sides and sporadically squeezing. He watched Tommy try to fold in on himself and hold in any noises that may slip out.
“Come on Toms, just let it out. I know it tickles~” Will drug out the last word dramatically. He was going to be nice, but since Tommy wanted to be stubborn, he decided he would try and make him as flustered as possible.
“It d-doesn’t.” Tommy answered through gritted teeth. He was thankful he wasn’t facing Will, as he couldn’t hold back a large smile.
“No? Well I guess that what happens when you grow up, things change. Don’t worry, we can find all the ways to make it tickle again, how about that?” Will was relentless with his words, his voice was lower than normal but still light in tone.
The hands shifted to pinch at Tommy’s lower ribs instead. This produced a yelp, but nothing more.
Will was very surprised at the willpower Tommy had, usually the boy broke within seconds. But this only spurred Wilbur to try harder.
“So close. You know you can’t hold on forever Tommy, and once you break-“ Will let out a chuckle of his own, “-well, let’s just say I think I’ll have to make up for all this lost laughter.”
Tommy shook his head in his hands, now having to cover his mouth. The promise of being tickled even more caused butterflies to erupt in his stomach and his face to turn hotter. He pondered if he should break now to try and save himself a little, but ultimately remained silent after consideration.
“Not answering is rude Tommy, are you scared that you won’t be able to hold out much longer? We both know the second I go just a little higher that you’ll break. Why not let it all out now? Maybe I’ll spare you a little.” Will pointed out the obvious and gave the boy false hope. At this point, sparing him would be going in for the kill rather than stopping.
Tommy shook his head again and composed himself enough to let out a single word, “Liar.” He said just before having to lightly bite down on his lip to keep from bursting into giggles.
“What did you say?” Wilbur asked incredulously, stilling his hands.
Once said, Tommy just shook his head.
“I think you just called me a liar. Actually, I know you just called me a liar!” Will formed both hands into claws, letting the tips of his fingers and dull nails rest on the sides of Tommy’s lower ribs. They began a steady climb up, wiggling and scratching lightly.
Small titters came flowing out of Tommy’s mouth, soon developing into laughter as Will approached his upper ribs. “Wihihill, plehehease. Look yohohou got mehehe! You wihihin!” Tommy tried to bargain.
Will paused just before his hand reached their destination. “Oh I know I won. But you’re missing something Tommy. Since I won,” He paused and leaned to whisper into the boy’s ear, “-that means you lose.” He dug his fingers into Tommy’s underarms, a well known death spot. His touches were hard but growing up in this family, he knew how to not cause discomfort, just make it tickle like hell.
And tickle like hell it did. Which honestly was a relief for Tommy. After holding back his laughter for so long it felt nice to let loose.
“WIHIHILL PLEhehehease! It tiHiHIHIhickles!” He yelped out. Tommy had always been the type to talk every chance he got, including while being tickled.
“Really? What tickles more, this?” He referred to the current treatment. “Or this?” He lightened the touch on one hand, keeping the other digging into the sensitive spot. The contrasting feelings switched sides at random to keep Tommy guessing.
Tommy took in a breath too fast as in turn, snorted. His blush darkened, knowing Will would coo over it. “WIHIHILL PLEHEHEASE!”
“Awww that was so cute! You should do it again some time. Please what? Tickle you more? Well okay, if you insist!”
“NOHOHO! STOHOHAHAP!” His arms were practically glued to his sides at this point.
Will didn’t stop, but he did slow down quite a bit to give the boy a break. “Hmmm, I think you’ve still got some giggles in you. I’ll tell you what though. If you really are tired we can stop, but if not, we can go for a few more minutes and I’ll go out with a bang. You tell me what you want, boss man.” He offered, still having his brother in a constant state of light giggles.
“I mehehean, I guess yohohou can kehehep going. Just sohohomewhere ehehelse please.” That was as close to asking as Tommy got, and Wilbur was nothing but proud.
The older smiled, “Fine by me.” He moved his hands back down to his sides. “We’ve already gotten these.” He quickly scribbled both sides. “I want to save these for last.” He squeezed both hips, laughing at the high pitched noise Tommy made. “So, I think that leaves this.” He rested a hand on Tommy’s stomach.
“I guehehess.” Tommy giggles out.
Wilbur made quick work of the spot. He kept gentle, knowing that Tommy would need his strength for the sweet spot that was his hips. He spidered over the boy’s stomach, scratched at the sides of the spot, poked around, and even played a game of Round the Garden like a Teddy Bear. Tommy was giggling like a little kid the entire time.
As promised, Wilbur moved onto the next spot. His hips. Tommy was slightly nervous but knew Will wouldn’t take it too far, he was more so excited than anything.
“Ready?” Will teasingly asked, his hands poised over the spot.
Tommy nodded before hiding his face back in his hands. However, his hands came flying down once Will started gently drilling right beside the bone. “WIHIHILL! IHIHITS SOHOhoho bahahad!”
“You’re taking it so well though!” Wilbur reassured. After a few moments, he switched to lightly squeezing the muscle just above the hip bone that contacted it to his side.
Tommy folded in on himself again, it was a completely unfair spot to target in his opinion, but it’s not like he hated it. His laughter began to grow squeakier and Will took it as his que to stop.
Wilbur kept his arms around Tommy to make sure he wouldn’t fall as he regained his composure. When he walked into the kitchen, he hadn’t planned to completely wreck his brother, but plans change.
After Tommy recovered and proper aftercare was received, consisting of lots of praises and a very long, comforting hug, Will stayed with Tommy while he finished making the cookies. When they were in the oven, both boys went to the living room and put on none other than Disney Pixar’s Up.
Later that night, Tommy handed Will a cookie decorated with a single blue feather. A promise for revenge.

THE MAN WHO WANT IT ALL VS THE MAN WHO LOVE IT ALL:
Tumblr media
There's a trope that has been going around since the day humanity started thinking about themselves in relation to the universe: the finite nature of the man in contrast to the infinite nature of the world.
Our time is limited. We are born, we live, we die. That scares us as a race, because we don't know what's beyond the death line. We are scared of dying, we are scared of working our whole lives to then lose it to the darkness. And from that fear, rises the stereotype of the man who refuse to die, the man who wants it all.
Wanting and loving are two different things.
The man who want it all wants to own, wants to rule over everything that exists, because he's so afraid of being just a tiny piece of a greater game that he wants to have absolute control. You see, like a spider in a web, his threads are easy to break when you're a greater figure, but they are also resistant enough to trap any being tinier than him, so that gives the illusion of control he wanted so bad.
The man who loves it all is afraid of dying too. The difference? He accepts his time and place, and instead of focusing on owning things, on trapping things, he spends his time admiring them in their freedom, loving them as they come. If our time is finite, instead of making it last forever, we should enjoy the time we have. That's what the man who loves it all thinks.
Thinking about the Shigaraki siblings, about the meaning behind All For One and One For All, I came to the conclusion that mha / bnha is the story of the human race struggling to understand how should they live.
Many times in the manga we have encountered characters that think their quirks or their abilities makes them superior. But it isn't quiet true, because the human body is a fragile thing. Not matter how strong it is, time affects it the same. Evil lords like AFO get old, weak kids like Deku grow strong. A quirk can be trained as much as a body and a mind can be trained, so strength is not the variable they should take as a foundation to their world.
The same happens with intelligence, beauty, speed, money, power... They don't last in the hands of a man. Those are things that one can win and lose in an instant.
The answer is simpler than you could think.
It is men who choose who they are and what they're going to be, as long as they understand their limits and capacities.
Take Mirio. In order for him to become a great hero, he first needed to understand his quirk and then work based on that. He understood himself, he accepted himself and then he grew.
Take Deku. What makes Deku a Deku? His love for humanity. He's always observing, always studying, always connecting. When he focused his quirk on what he was, instead of trying to imitate All Might, he understood how he could grow. He's the kid who's built on his love for other beings, so he takes a piece of everything he loves and he is who he is.
It's not enough to want. You need to love.
Overhaul wanted it all, but he failed when it came to love. Why? He indeed loved things, but he forgot to accept his limits and capacities. He tried to do more than he could, he forced the people around him passed their limits, and everything came crashing before him.
AFO, with all his powers, lives hiding, frustrated because he can't obtain the only thing he "needs" in order for him to control the whole world. But can he take it? Would that be enough? Once he has everything, would he be happy? Or is he trying to obtain everything to cover up a bigger pain in his heart?
The reason why Yoichi could develop One For All is because he loved so much, that he knew he was going to die, but it was not the end. Our lives are not the end of the world. There's more people, future generations. What AFO couldn't accept (he not being immortal, he not living forever and being able to have it all), was what made Yoichi so powerful.
AFO, as a being, can't be going on forever. But you know what can go on and on endlessly? The repercussions of our love.
The vestiges are a symbol of that. Even if we can't name them, that people that came before us lives in the things we do. The users of One For All didn't want to live forever, but they wanted to protect others, save others, give others the chance to live their times. Contrary to AFO, their lives were short, they die not owning that much, they were very mortal and almost simple.
Do you remember what Nighteye said when he saw how Deku changed the future? It was not only his will, but the will of everyone, fighting so hard to, that changed the course of time.
One For All. One will, one wish, one continuous time for all of us. We live in the same world, it is mine as much as it is yours. Sacrifice our lives to protect everyone, do our best to defend everyone. Love doesn't judge, it loves even the worst beings, because it's capable of finding light in the deepest of darkness.
All For One. Since the beginning, AFO was destined to fail. His body is mortal, he is mortal, so he can't take the whole world, he can't take all the quirks, he can't live all lives. All he does, for one fear: dying. He can't avoid it. The more he tries to stay in control, the more he loses. If the target is too big or there are too many flies on his web, the threads eventually break.
We are born, we live, we die. Not matter how much you tried to kill it, hope always finds a way to come back. And not matter how much you try to keep it alive, evil dies as everything else does.
One last question: Does Shigaraki Tomura resembles the man who want it all or the man who loves it all? Is he trying to control everything or trying to break a web? Is he a parallel of Yoichi or a parallel of AFO?
Or maybe, can he be the personification of that duality? Can he be the point where the two things meet? What makes us complex as human beings? Is he not a thing or the other, but the ultimate consequence of the Shigarakis fight, along with Deku?
