Nourishing the Heart of Home: A Homemaker's Guide to Warmth and Wellness
Tumblr media
In the sacred realm of homemaking, where every corner holds a story and every room echoes with warmth, there lies a beautiful tapestry of nourishment. Today, let's embark on a journey of self-care and tender gestures that not only nourish our homes, family, and kids but also nurture the radiant soul of the homemaker herself.
1. A Cozy Cup of Tea: Sipping Serenity
Begin your day with the simple ritual of a cozy cup of tea. Whether it's the earthy warmth of chamomile or the comforting hug of a chai blend, let each sip be a moment of serenity. As you cradle the cup in your hands, feel the nourishment seeping through, not just for your body but for your spirit. I love chamomile and try to have at least one cup a day. Grab my favorite organic variety here.
2. A Bath Drawn with Love: Soaking in Tranquility
Indulge in the luxury of a bath drawn with love. Enhance the experience with a sprinkle of calming lavender or invigorating eucalyptus. Let the warm water wash away the cares of the day, creating a sanctuary of tranquility within your own home.
3. Beeswax Candlelit Evenings: Illuminating Warmth
Transform your evenings with the soft glow of beeswax candles. The gentle flicker not only illuminates your space but also kindles a sense of warmth and intimacy. Allow the soothing ambiance to wrap your home in a cocoon of comfort.
4. Reading Nook Bliss: Cozy Corners for the Soul
Create a reading nook bliss for yourself. Adorn it with plush cushions, a soft blanket, and shelves of cherished books. Let it be a haven where you can escape into other worlds, even if just for a few precious moments.
5. Culinary Comfort: Nourishing with Love
In the heart of your home, the kitchen, infuse each meal with culinary comfort. Experiment with recipes that not only tantalize the taste buds but also warm the soul. Let the aroma of home-cooked goodness become the melody that lingers in the air.
6. Family Movie Nights: Shared Joy
Designate cozy family movie nights. Pile up pillows and blankets, choose a favorite film, and revel in the joy of shared laughter. These moments become the threads weaving the fabric of family bonds.
7. Nature's Embrace: Bringing the Outdoors In
Incorporate elements of nature into your home. Fresh flowers, potted plants, or even a bowl of seasonal fruits can infuse the indoors with the vitality of the outdoors. Nature's embrace nurtures both the environment and the spirit.
8. Mindful Moments: Breathing in Gratitude
Embrace mindful moments throughout your day. Pause to breathe in gratitude as you witness the sunrise, share a meal, or tuck in your little ones. These pockets of mindfulness become the anchors that ground you in the present.
Cultivating a Homestead of Wellness
As you weave these warm and cozy elements into the fabric of your home, remember that the act of nourishing extends beyond the physical. It's a dance of intention, a symphony of love, and a dedication to cultivating a homestead of wellness.
May the cozy cup of tea, the drawn bath, the beeswax candles, and every tender gesture you weave into your homemaking journey be a testament to the nurturing spirit that resides within you. As you nourish your home, family, and kids, may you find an abundance of warmth and wellness enveloping every corner of your cherished abode. 🏡✨

I made this. and while I’m sharing it with you I just want to say that no matter who you are, you can:
• wear long dresses that you like and still fight for human rights
• start a family and not believe it’s every uterus-yielding person’s duty to do the same
• be a homemaker if that’s what you delight in
•choose what you want to be
…no matter who you are.
〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️
freedom to choose is not “freedom to go from the old path to the new path or else you don’t value choice”. it is freedom to go whichever way you are called by your own heart to go, regardless of which way that is or if there even is a path already.
you’re not a bad feminist because you like your hair long. it’s not your job to uphold an idea of what a feminist looks like. there is no such look.
there are two major things that have both angered and saddened me since announcing my pregnancy with my son back in 2020:
1. the assumption that I have given up on any and all career goals I have set for myself (namely music and birthwork) by reproducing, and that by keeping a garden and mainly staying home with my son I have let the patriarchy sort of “win me over”.
2. the amount of tradwives and tradfems who have reblogged and reposted my content (outfits, observations on parenthood, photos of my home and gardens, the list goes on) to perpetuate their own agenda, often using me as a “positive” example of what a woman’s “rightful place” is.
these are both wrong.
if you believe I am an example of a failed feminist simply for marrying, having a child and keeping a goddang garden, you need to sort out why you feel that way. I would like to know: do you feel the same way about your ancestors?
if you believe that women belong at home, having babies and sweeping the floor of dirt from their husband’s boots, the end, then I do not know why you think my corner of the internet is a space for you.
I posted this same rant to my ig story and have been blown away by the positive response. why, if so many people agree, does it feel like we as a culture are handing traditional/simple-living off to the sorts of people romanticizing a Gilead sort of world when you can make bread and move mountains and fight for human rights at the same damn time?

Embrace the Renewal of Spring: Crafting Your Homemaker's To-Do List
Tumblr media
As the gentle breeze of spring breathes new life into our homes and hearts, there's no better time to embark on the journey of homemaking with intention and creativity. Picture it: the sun-kissed mornings, the blossoming flowers, and the promise of fresh beginnings. With spring in full swing, now is the perfect moment to curate a homemakers' to-do list that nurtures not just our physical spaces, but also our souls. From decluttering and deep cleaning to cultivating our gardens and nurturing our families, let's infuse our homemaking endeavors with warmth, creativity, and joy.
First and foremost, embrace the art of decluttering as a cornerstone of your spring homemakers' to-do list. Let's bid farewell to items that no longer give us joy, creating space for new possibilities to blossom. Next, dive into the realm of deep cleaning, tackling one room at a time with a spirit of mindfulness and reverence for the spaces we inhabit.
But homemaking isn't just about tending to our physical surroundings—it's also about nurturing the hearts and minds of our loved ones. Consider crafting a homeschooling to-do list that integrates outdoor learning adventures, hands-on projects, and creative exploration, harnessing the vibrant energy of spring to inspire curiosity and growth in your children.
And let's not forget about our homestead aspirations—whether it's planting a vegetable garden, tending to our flock of chickens, or embarking on a DIY homesteading project, spring offers endless opportunities to cultivate self-sufficiency and connection with the land.
Finally, don't overlook the importance of setting personal goals and intentions for the season ahead. Whether it's committing to a daily mindfulness practice, prioritizing self-care rituals, or embarking on a new hobby, spring invites us to align with our deepest desires and aspirations, blooming into the fullest expression of ourselves.
So, dear homemakers, as you craft your to-do lists for the season ahead, remember to infuse each task with intention, creativity, and a generous sprinkle of joy. Embrace the renewal of spring as an opportunity to cultivate a home and life that nourishes the body, mind, and spirit—one cozy moment at a time.
Here's a planner that I use to make all my homemaking lists!
With love and homemaking wishes,
Kimmi

Deep Cleaning the Refrigerator; One of my Most Dreaded Tasks
If you are anything like me, often you will be playing a guessing game with the food in your fridge. We have all been there. That moment when you are in the kitchen looking at a tub of yogurt wondering if it’s still safe to eat. Hunting down the expiration date. Struggling to find it and turning the whole container around in your hands trying to spot that little 6–8 digit code. I find myself in this position far more than I would like to admit. Which means I need to maintain my refrigerator a bit better.
Now. You should be deep cleaning your refrigerator every 2-3 months. It’s been a bit longer than that for me. But to get started just simply grab a trash bag and begin removing all the spoiled food. The longer you leave spoilt food in the fridge the faster your other food will go bad as well. Get everything. And I do mean everything. Check the crisper drawer, check the cheese drawer, check the door. Did you get all the bad food? Great! That’s progress! Go ahead and tie off that bag and take it out to the bin.
Next take everything out of the fridge. Put it all on the table, island, bar or wherever you have space. Once it’s there just leave it, don’t touch it, and don’t think about it. We will handle that later. Go ahead and take all the shelves and drawers out of the fridge. I personally put them in the bathtub for this step. Turn the tap on and let the water get hot. Pour a bit of dish soap over them and start washing them down with a cotton rag. If you have a soft scrub brush or extra toothbrush, use that to get into any corners or crevices, as well as to remove any stuck-on mess. Once they have been thoroughly scrubbed rinse them with clean hot water and spray on some antibacterial cleaner and let it set for 5 minutes.
While that is setting go ahead and fill a bucket or bowl with hot soapy water. Using a cotton rag or soft scrub brush thoroughly wipe out and scrub the inside of the fridge and the door. Feel free to use baking soda and vinegar to assist in removing caked mess. And be willing to scrub. Don’t just simply wipe it out because that won’t get it clean. Once you have finished cleaning out the fridge wipe it down with clean hot water and a clean rag. Spay antibacterial cleaner inside and let it set for 5 minutes.
Go rinse the cleaning spray off your shelves and drawers then place them somewhere to dry. I put mine on towels and aim a fan at them to dry them quicker. As those dry go ahead and refill your bucket with 3 parts hot water and 1 part white vinegar. This time pay special attention to the seal of the fridge door as those often grow mold. Take care not to remove the door seal as that is how your refrigerator stays cold. Clean it down gently but thoroughly and do your best to remove visible mold though keep in mind the seal might have some greyish black staining from any mold. Dry the seal with a dry rag or allow to airdry.
Now fill your bucket with hot soapy water. Close the fridge door. And scrub the outside. We don’t often think about how much dirt our hands have on them. And things like refrigerator handles are high traffic areas. I would recommend starting with a scrub brush and moving onto a rag after you have loosened the dirt. Once you have finished scrubbing wipe it down with clean hot water and dry the door or let airdry.
Place all your shelves and drawers back in the fridge and begin putting the food away. As you put things away just wipe down the outsides of containers with hot soapy water and dry them off as you organize your fridge. And now you’re done! And the biggest thing to remember is that you don’t need to feel guilty for having a fridge that needs cleaning. But you absolutely should be proud of the results when you are done.

THE DESCRIPTION OF SAINT ZITA OF LUCCA The Patron of Homemakers and Domestic Servants Feast Day: April 27
The story and history of Saint Zita. Zita lived for forty-eight years in the service of Fatinelli, a citizen of Lucca.
During this time she rose each morning, while the household were asleep, to hear Mass, and then toiled incessantly till night came, doing the work of others as well as her own. Once Zita, absorbed in prayer, remained in church past the usual hour of her bread-making.
She hastened home, reproaching herself with neglect of duty, and found the bread made and ready for the oven. She never doubted that her mistress or one of her servants had kneaded it, and going to them, thanked them; but they were astonished. No human being had made the bread. A delicious perfume rose from it, for angels had made it during her prayer. For years her master and mistress treated her as a mere drudge, while her fellow-servants, resenting her diligence as a reproach to themselves, insulted and struck her.
Zita united these sufferings with those of Christ her Lord, never changing the sweet tone of her voice, nor forgetting her gentle and quiet ways.
At length Fatinelli, seeing the success which attended her undertakings, gave her charge of his children and of the household. She dreaded this dignity more than the worst humiliation, but scrupulously fulfilled her trust. By her holy economy her master's goods were multiplied, while the poor were fed at his door.
Gradually, her unfailing patience conquered the jealousy of her fellow-servants, and she became their advocate with their hot-tempered master, who dared not give way to his anger before Zita.
In the end her prayer and toil sanctified the whole house, and drew down upon it the benediction of Heaven. She died in 1272, and in the moment of her death a bright star appearing above her attic showed that she had gained eternal rest.
