The most helpless I feel as a mental health counselor is when my clients are at risk of losing their housing. It’s so fucked up. Housing is a human right.

And again, it would be cheaper to build affordable housing and/or convert existing structure for that purpose than to continue to persecute the homeless while simultaneously preventing them from finding housing.

From Katarokwi Union of Tenants March 21, 2023:
The City of Kingston thinks that they can sweep homelessness under the carpet and evict people who are homeless from their encampments because they’ve provided a few (not enough!) high-barrier shelter spaces for (well-behaved) people to crash in. The moratorium on clearing encampments expires tomorrow on March 21 and the genocidal and illegal bylaw and ‘encampment protocol’ kicks into effect.
Only real, dignified, social, public, democratically-controlled, rent-geared-to-income ACTUAL HOUSING is a solution to homelessness. KUT will support and defend our homeless friends from eviction and will insist that no amount of low barrier shelter beds or sheds or aleeeping pods is enough to ’resolve’ the problem of homelessness.
Join us at a solidarity BBQ in the backyard of the Integrate Care Hub tomorrow, Tuesday 21st at 5pm. Bring donations of money, clothes, wood, smokes, batteries and whatever else you feel people might need.

Wanna know why it's so expensive to live in California? It ain't the taxes. It's what Croc's talkin' about. A bunch a super-rich monsters buyin' up all the housin' as essentially off-the-books bank vaults. At best, they'll rent 'em out as luxury Air B&Bs. but prob'ly they'll just sit empty.
This is killin' affordable housin' in California, New York, and many other places. Folks are bein' driven outta their homes an' can't find affordable places ta' live, even while more an' more housin's goin' up.
Th' good news is that property rights don't actually exist an' are nothin' but a construct of an abusive capitalist system. Which means we can deconstruct that system.

My Philanthropist Project
One of my dream philanthropist projects is to find a charity to fund to build an apartment/hotel facility for housing young runaways, single moms, abuse victims, and homeless queer/trans people. Most homeless shelters are so unkept, the workers don't care, and many other fraudulent things happen at shelters. I just think that it would be very important to have something positive, especially for underfunded communities.
I’d offer a free transportation system and a premium plan for people who don’t have cars. The rooms would have beds and couches, a kitchenette with a fridge, an updated bath, and shower tubs. A dining hall for daily and weekly catered meals. A gym, a laundromat, and a lounging area. I would have a mini-convenient/refreshment store for cleaning supplies, personal care, appliances, snacks, and clothing.
I’d hire a cleaning crew, groundskeepers, and maintenance to clean and repair things daily. I would also implement a program that offers
mentorship/schooling, and job searching. Extended stay residents with tenure can work and help out at the facility, gaining awards points that can be used for certain premium stuff like car rides or they can transfer their rewards points into money.
This is just a rough idea of what I would like to do if I ever got rich and came into some money.
