I'm convinced the only reason mew gets "bad friend" allegations is bc they want their fave character to be coddled and enabled. now if he did THAT then he would be a shitty friend but he is telling ray exactly what he needs to hear. especially after years of the same exact cycle and nothing changing. and even then mew is way too forgiving imo bc if someone did half the shit that ray did to me I would walk away for good. and I think a lot of this fandom forgets that trauma can be a reason for things but it's not an excuse especially when you are grown and know exactly what you need to do but still refuse to do it. (sorry if this seems unsympathetic or whatever I'm just very tired of the babying of a certain character)

ray is an adult who is responsible for his own actions, full stop. and the craziest part about all this is that mew does kind of enable him: he goes drinking with him and forgives him even when he crosses lines he never should have crossed. i agree that mew is too forgiving, and it looks like he's going to forgive him again. not only did he ruin mew's birthday by sharing the audio, ray then yelled at and talked shit at all their friends (while high) and accosted/physically threatened mew's boyfriend and other "best friend" (😒). mew only punched ray because he was picking a fight with everyone and threatening to out top, again, in front of all their friends and on his birthday - and he wouldn't stop after being repeatedly told to and asked to leave.

and same, anon, if my friend did that to me i'd cut him out. the only way that i would let him back in my life is if he got 100% sober, and he'd have to be for a while. as far as i'm concerned, ray burned the bridge himself. i'd tell him, "this is your rock bottom, finally do something about it." and often, cutting someone off is the wake-up call they need to figure their shit out. (but it looks like ray's car crash in the next episode is going to be his wake-up call.)

but you're right, mew keeps telling him he shouldn't day drink, do drugs, and drive while under the influence.

side-note: when boston agreed to take ray home and therefore ray was actually his responsibility, he abandoned him and fucked off to have sex with a stranger lol

i mean, i'm not saying that anyone who thinks mew is a bad friend automatically thinks that boston is a good friend but still. above all, mew values autonomy. he makes his own decisions and he expects others to live the same way: this includes ray. he wants what he thinks is best for them (and he's usually right), but he believes they should think and act for themselves.

(you know, even when he, ah, incentivizes them, re: top's drug use lol it's still top's decision. mew doesn't want a boyfriend who does drugs and he wants to have sex. two birds, one stone.)

we're years into their friendship now, and ray has been an alcoholic and drug ab/user since they were twenty, maybe even earlier if he was drinking underage. the flashback where mew saves his fucking life (oh, it's only good when sand does it?🙄), ray already has a drinking problem and has gotten himself into trouble because of it, having to lean on mew multiple times to the point that mew is obviously frustrated about being called in the middle of the night after the umpteenth time. which is understandable! it's not mew's job to be at ray's beck and call; he's not his dad, he's not his boyfriend - and even then, that's a lot to put on anyone when you don't even seem to try to be changing (he's literally drinking in the next scene! okay!!!!! is mew supposed to smack it out of his hand in order to be a "good" friend? again, autonomy!!!!). ray says he's a burden but he doesn't do anything about it. mew's been his dedicated "emergency staff" again and again, and it's not his responsibility to take care of ray all the time.

ray's biggest problem is that he thinks he doesn't have a problem: he'll get so drunk (and high) he can barely walk and he'll say he's not drunk and then try to drive!!!!!! that shit isn't okay!!! in fact, it's inexcusable!

you know, i was thinking that the "superiority complex" allegations against mew were about his being (slightly) judgmental about boston sleeping around (which mew obviously only says because he wants him to be happy. even if he has a narrower idea of happiness, he just wants what he thinks is best for boston - but he doesn't shame or even tell boston he should settle down, even while boston is constantly saying that mew should lose his virginity to the point of obsession🙄 anyway), but it might have more to do with ray, and mew having a problem with him drinking himself to death lol

mew is the only one to tell ray he should stop drinking and using drugs and... that means he has a superiority complex? being worried about his alcoholic friend whose mom died of alcohol poisoning? he's the only person who tells him to stop drinking and using - that doesn't make mew a bad friend, that makes him ray's only good friend. even sand, who has had to physically struggle with ray to keep him from driving under the influence, LITERALLY SUPPLIES HIM WITH ALCOHOL AND DRUGS OH MY GOD

all this to say, you're so right, anon. wayyyyy too many folks in this fandom will find any reason to excuse ray's behavior, no matter who he hurts or how bad it gets. nothing is ever his fault despite making his own decisions and taking his own actions and facing his own consequences.

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

*LOUD WAILING* I just loooooooooove the way she is set up and portrayed in literally all of s1, the way she is consistently humanized despite how her actions might look (showing her in her lil MIT sweatshirt with her lil lunch box before the reveal that she's running the train; showing her getting sick after she tortures josie; her consistently being like i am an engineer i should be doing That not This).

I was just thinking, I think the main reason the daughter coming back plot rubs me the wrong way is because her having a daughter at all seems a bit incidental to her character; it only really matters bc it shows that she "chose the train" over her daughter. I just really dislike it when shows use 'but she loves children' as a way to 'humanize' female characters. The reconciliation arc feels like such a ham-fisted way to show another side of Melanie when they were doing that already in subtler and better ways.

4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

ONE THAT APPRECIATES HER!!!!!!! I'm having such a hard time taking her off the train in my mind LOL no one escapes the train. I think something else similarly futuristic/dystopian would also fit her though. And she just has SUCH antihero/reformed villain turned protag potential. Let her go from "I went about this the wrong way" to "I'm the only one who can fix this new disaster that happened after my fall from grace, let me make it right."

I think she wouldn't really mind someone who has a really different life experience from her or someone who can't fully understand everything she's been through. It's more important to her to be seen clearly in the present than to be understood completely, if that makes sense. Hear me out but. I think Persephone and Korra could be friends.

All right we've got some pros and cons here.

PRO: Hates infernal picture boxes. Would not blast tiktoks without headphones or try to get me to watch some show I would hate in the name of roommate bonding. CON: Might spontaneously cut the power or short-circuit something for reasons unknowable to me.

PRO: Seems perfectly happy to take care of simple home repairs. At worst it would cost me one (1) soul.

PRO: Loves electro-swing and drinking, zero downsides here.

About the Buck Tommy break up: If they do break them up, when do you think that would happen? How long would they date for? I feel like they might keep them together for all of the next season.

Yeah I kinda think I agree? and like i'll remind you i'm like. 50/50 on buddie canon ON A GOOD DAY (i'm 100000% FOR IT, i'm 50/50 on them actually doing it) so. even assuming buddie canon is definitely where they want to take the story i could definitely see Tommy sticking around through s8.

(another cut because idk how to shut the fuck up)

For one, he's a recurring character so he's not going to be in every episode anyway. which means even if he's there for all of s8 they probably only have like 8-12 episodes to actually develop that relationship arc. For two, they seem to have forgotten how to develop Buck as a character without putting him in a relationship (see the mess that was his arc in s6...the girlies were spinning their wheels so hard and throwing everything against the wall to see what would stick) so they have every reason to want to keep him in said relationship for most of the season purely for story fodder.

I'm hopeful they'll find a way to continue developing Buck's sexuality arc without it being all about his relationship, but honestly i'm not banking on it. (my kingdom for a queer first responders group...a great way to also introduce some new tertiary characters plz & thanks!! more Hen/Buck also plz & thanks!!) i think the buck/fatherhood storyline (his desire for it, his realization that he almost but not quite has it already?) is ALSO something that could be built out in s8 and i would loooooooooove to see it (and could, as already mentioned, lead us to the eventual Buck-Tommy breakup).

anyway you didn't ask me about Buck storylines LMAO so back to your point. They have let's say 10-ish episodes over the course of s8 to really develop the Buck-Tommy relationship so I think them breaking up at the end of the season makes sense. and given that unlike in other seasons they're starting with a LOT of ground to cover in terms of other storylines (Captain Gerrard, Bobby returning, EDDIE & CHRIS, Councilwoman Ortiz, Hen + Karen + Chim + Maddie as coparents, etc etc etc) I wouldn't be surprised if Buck and Tommy continue to take kind of a backseat in the first half of the season. Like I think we'll see Tommy around and we'll get a few one-off storylines about him/their relationship but that's it.

And let's say things go exactly the way I want them to and we do get an Eddie feelings realization while Buck and Tommy are still together. I think we need at LEAST half a season to get Eddie there, probably even more, just because he's got SO MUCH to go through next season (i am hopeful the Gerrard arc only takes up 1-3 episodes MAX--unless they do another big disaster season opener--and then we get a Christopher reunion by mid-mid season, ep 6-7. They do often like to do big emotional set piece episodes smack dab in the middle of each half, like Tomorrow in 6a and There Goes the Groom in 7b).

THEN we also need time for Eddie to pine. For a good half season, at the very least. So yeah that easily puts us at the end of s8, just in time for Buck to have his own feelings realization, perhaps in the aftermath of some dramatic season-ending storyline, and then break up with Tommy at the very end of s8. Leading to mutual pining at the beginning of s9. Or they could drag it out even further, especially if they get an early renewal again. I wouldn't be opposed to that.

Obviously this is like. Sibyl's Dream Scenario. aka what would happen if ABC hired me as the showrunner. What they actually will do in the show I have no idea. And a lot of it also depends on LFJ's availability (like we all know that's exactly what ended up happening with Natalia and why she got unceremoniously dumped offscreen). I know he's on another show as well, but I get the feeling he's going to make his 911 stuff a priority as much as he can because he's gotten a LOT of attention for this role and from what i can tell has seemed genuinely enthusiastic about it.

We all love Suguru and YN, we all love SUGURU. But I have a feeling there wont be a thing between them. As in Suguru clearly loves YN but I dont think its in a romantic way. I think he and Shoko are the only ones both mentally balanced and with their shit together as compared to YN, Dumbjo and Rie.

So I think Sugs is going to be the person and support system that YN needs and I know YN wont fall for him cause she is too broken and can only think of Dumbjo. I just hope that Sugs isnt ONLY helping YN out of sympathy because THAT will destroy her too. She can’t handle people caring about her because she seems to have never gotten it when she was a kid and had to put up 1000s of barriers to protect herself. We all want Rie to suffer, and everyone wants YN to get revenge or be pissed but I dont think she will cause revenge may feel good but its just as self destructive. Also as for Rie, her downfall will literally be her own doing MWAHAHAH. YN wont have to lift a finger. She is probably gonna scheme and manipulate her way to maintain what she has and I wonder if she is gonna pull some shit for “attention” and I hope it backfires hard on her. I pity her but I dont feel bad for her at all.

I cant wait till Satoru finally sees through Rie, and it has to be with his own eyes. When that hits and he genuinely realizes what he threw away with YN, hmmmph them tears of despair gonna be tastier than a 5 Star Michelin Gourmet. Rie is the devil to YNs Angel and its wonderful cause YN will never defile herself the way Rie has. Also I dont think Rie actually loves Dumbjo. I think she is in love with being loved and twists and contorts herself to get what she wants. But she might actually have a conscience and realize this before its too late?? For her sake I hope so but I doubt it 👀👀🍿🍿

As for Satoru, im still kinda on the fence. Im angry at him for what he put YN through. Very! But he is clearly being duped by Rie and thats not an excuse to let him off the hook. But I personally believe in redemption and I think he is gonna have to do ALOT of soul searching. if he and YN are endgame then he is gonna need to let YN go though and move on with his life and emotionally grow and who knows what might happen in the future.

When his parents didn't want to let him refuse, he said, "ok, watch this," and jumped headfirst into hardcore drugs and partying and doing things that would make nobody in their right mind want him as king. Unfortunately, his 13-14 year old ideas of "I'm too smart to get addicted" didn't work. He's clean now, but that time of his life contains secrets, trauma, and angst. And tooooons of guilt for the things he did. Also, magic folks age 1 year for every 10 regular, nonmagic years. So he's physically 19, but actually like 192.

Bane [last name redacted]: Idk his last name. He's the current king, at 18 physically, but 180+. His parents died when he was very young, so he was raised being groomed into the role of king, since the former king (dude had no kids and had to pick an heir haha) realized Zxy was PROBABLY not gonna cut it. Being raised to treat his work as his sole raison d'etre, but with a bunch of servants that would just say yes to anything, he became kinda spoiled. That spoiled became twisted when several assassination attempts when he was like 10 traumatized him enough to make him lose it. He got better, but not before torturing Zxy for months. They're on good terms now. This boy will prooooobably be speaking in a haughty, formal manner (if he's not being a huge slut and talking like he's horny on main) because he puts on a little front all the time, being a king and all.

Aubrey Rosenfeld: Rae and Sascha's son. He's 17, but real 17, despite being magic. Something funky happened to make him magic, despite his parents not being. That said, he's into being an almost cheesy level of rebellious. He'll graffiti a dick onto a cop car and then parkour away so he doesn't get caught. This boy fucking LOVES parkour and freerunning. He also loves chaos in general. Hates authority, loves being a menace to society. He's an absolute little shit gremlin boy, but a good kid. Everyone thinks he takes after Rae, but he actually takes more after his father. Was experimented on for a time for his magic when the government went apeshit bonkers and wanted to eradicate magic folks.

Willow: Fuck if I know what her last name is. She's a mercenary hired to kill Bane and Zxy but didn't, because she's not stupid. She did get to know them, however, so now she's around a lot, and good friends with Rae. She tries hard to act tough and push down any emotion, and she has severe attachment issues due to her upbringing and a past abusive relationship, but at her core, she's mischievous and loves pranks and joking around. She also looooooooooves animals. Take this girl to the damn ZOO. She's awful at cooking. Do not let her in a kitchen, unless that kitchen belongs to your enemy and you want their house burnt down.

Lili Rosenfeld: Rae and Sascha's daughter. 15, and also normal 15. She's shy, but not as severely as her mother was. She dreams of becoming a marine biologist, and loves all the little sea critters. Her favorite color is yellow. She has healing abilities, which is a big deal in my canon because literally no other magic person can do that. They're kind of wonky and hard for her to control, however. If you manage to make her upset enough, she'll wind up cussing you out like some seasoned biker gang member, which can be kinda... jarring. Tbch? I need to work on her, right now she's "boring little girl character #1." I'm nothing if not honest.

Sascha Rosenfeld: Oh ho hoooo, this guy. This guy right here. Love him, but he's a tool. Or, used to be. He'd sleep with any girl who would have him in college, and when he met Rae, he kind of fell in love without realizing. He wouldn't stop pestering her and flirting with her, which wasn't taken very well by her back then. He did have a dependable side, which is what attracted her to him at all in the first place. They got together, broke up because he's a jerk and cheated on her out of fear of commitment, then got back together after he groveled enough to satisfy her. They got married, and now he's a doting husband and, surprisingly, a good father. He was a detective, but ACAB, and since the government was actively trying to kill his kids and people like them, he stopped with all that. This man is a cuck. He's so into his wife, it's embarrassing.

MORE IN DEPTH INFO:

For reference, my little "world" takes place in just... the regular world? Earth? Idk, my characters are American, I'm so sorry lmao. I just always imagine them hanging out in specific parts of the States bc I'm there, but travel is easy because these magic fuckers can TELEPORT.

Magic folks are highly secretive and don't just let humans know that magic is real all willy-nilly. They're actually not supposed to at all, but, well, you form a close enough bond and you're going to find out. Accidentally or otherwise.

The main timeline story, in a nutshell, is that the former king (his name was Isaiah. Not important, it literally never comes up) had no wife or heirs of his own, so he chose between two kids he thought had potential and had ties to royalty, even if it was distant. Zxy was the brilliant shoe-in, the one whose family was focused on their position and how to advance it. Zxy's parents, Amy and Gregory, serve as envoys to the king, so when their younger son had the chance to snag that crown, they wanted it. BAD. They didn't care about their elementary school-aged son's protests that he hated politics and didn't want he job. Some things happened that took Zxy down a very dark path, which I don't wanna go too far into here because I'd rather it come up organically, but it took him out of the running.

So then child #2, Bane, gets the crown. Bane, whose parents died when he was 6 (60+, since magic people age 1 year for every 10. Physically, anyway. Mentally is kind of a mixed bag. They're definitely more mature than their human counterparts, but a teenage magic person is still going to act like a teenager.) was taken in by Isaiah immediately and groomed for the role. Normal schooling was out, this orphan child was raised learning etiquette, diplomatic skills, languages, budgeting, everything a good king would need. The servants treated him like they would a prince and basically let him get away with quite a bit. He was a precocious kid, but he grew spoiled. Repeated assassination attempts at a young age took their toll on him, mentally, until he kind of wound up paranoid and having a mental breakdown, which led to suspicion of Zxy, which led to torturing Zxy for over 3 straight months. He got better. The two are on decent terms now.

I still don't have the best handle on my magic system. It's kinda like Dragonball Z energy, but also kinda you have to have the ability and creativity to give it form, and... yeah. It's wonky. Sometimes I make my characters hold the idiot ball to avoid godmodding. It's worked well with the bestie so that sometimes nonmagic people can cause shenanigans. I take turns deciding which character I want to absolutely break and drive to desperate tears as they get the tar kicked out of them, so sometimes it's just easier to go, "Oops, someone sealed their magic." And then sometimes the would-be attacker doesn't seal them and gets murked. It's whatever works best for the plot at the time, if I'm honest.

Sometimes I reference an AU timeline, which is where pretty much all of Aubrey's characterization comes in. Rae and Sascha died (Rae was a total hellion trying to revolt against the government for being anti-magic, and it got her shot repeatedly in her kitchen for it) and then Aubrey was left at 15 to take care of his 13 year old little sister. Lili also died, and Aubrey was left all alone, avoiding authorities... when he wasn't provoking them. Two years pass from his sister's death, putting him at 17.

In the AU world, climate change has totally wrecked the world, leaving it barren and uninhabitable outside of terraformed domes for any extended period of time. It takes awhile for him to meet back up with Zxy, who, at that point, is also working to take down the anti-magic government to save everyone from extermination. The Zxy I use isn't AU Zxy, it's just plain flavored, no added spice.

Obviously, this means Rae and the rest of the family came back to life. I don't really have an explanation for that, because it was something that happened in RP with the bestie, so I've just rolled with it, because Rae is fun to write, and Sascha and Lili could stand to be fleshed out more.

The AU thing doesn't come up a lot, unless I'm feeling like being mean to Aubrey and making him sad about things that happened to him in his past.

I've been trying to escape the service Industry. I hate it so much, all I want to do is never have to talk to customers again for a living but not enough education = no u can't have job u want.

All this to say; my newest profession is already going to very quickly learn that I don't work weekends and repeated attempts to schedule me for such, when I've stated I'm not available, is not good for them.

Like I literally had this conversation with one of my managers yesterday I don't...

Also gtfo out of here with 'we're short staffed, no one wants to work weekends!' Tough titties, put us on rotation then; all I feel currently is that I'm getting shafted because other people wanted those days off too and y'all think I'm 'responsible' and 'nice' and I am not.

Do not promote me to manager I hate people and being around them and working more than 8 hours a day for salary is...HAHAHAHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Why

But yes, please give me only two days, the days I've told you I don't work, to work next week AND make them 12 hr shifts :D

I loooooooooove that, it's my favorite thing to receive part time pay when I want a full time job, I'm just not willing to commit to 60+ hours a week for it /s

This despite repeatedly saying I'm available 5/8, M-F! Fuck I can switch to 4/8 for evenings, but I absolutely refuse to work weekends in that regard, then.

Pro-Tip: Stick to your guns; any job that tries to push you past your stated boundaries, push back, if you can afford to. I don't care if I end up unemployed again, I won't be treated this way.

Because my bosses were usually nice to me, I was willing to make an exception for 1 time, but now I'm not. Don't give them an inch, they'll always take a mile. But yeah, scheduled me for weekends back to back, but that isn't going to fly.

So today will be a FUN day of me telling another manager, for a third FUCKING time, I don't work weekends. And that if they continue to do this to me, they can expect to hear me call off because I don't work weekends.

Especially as in two weeks, it will be the day I arrived here on planet earth (it's my birthday I'm just being fancy), and I definitely don't work that day.

If you're a girl you're in danger. If you're a POC you're in danger, If you're neurodivergent you're in danger. If you're a member of the LGBTQ community you're in danger. If you're disabled you're in danger. If you're part of any minority you're in danger. If you dare to be different you're in danger. Fuck people. I'm a queer POC female and it's scary. “Wait. Is Rafael kissing people???”

“Rafael is not kissing people,” Rafael replied as he walked past them to the kitchen. “Also, you guys are shit at whispering.”

Alec rolled his eyes at him and turned to Magnus. “It’s stressful enough that we need to talk about racism in the shadow world. Now we need to talk about kissing??”

“And other stuff,” Magnus chuckled.

Alec groaned into Magnus’ shoulder. “By the angel. Fine. We’ll just tell them there is no kissing. Until they are 30.”

“Hypocrite,” Rafael coughed into his hand as he walked back to the table with a bag of chips.
