with the way social media websites are becoming these days (hand waves at the past 5 years in general and not just these past few buck wild months) I might heavily consider making a neocities to keep all my fanart on. I'll put a mental pin in it and if it ever happens I'll probably make a post about it here, and maybe on twitter.

Kurapika x Fem!Reader
!!REBLOGS APPRECIATED!!
warnings: Kurapika is depressed, mentions of him having anger issues, mention of reader’s period(very short)
taglist: @desiray562 @ashdownunderscorebeloved @stygianoir
if you would like to be added to the HXH/SFW taglist, comment a ❤️!! make sure you have your AGE in your bio, and that you’re able to be tagged/mentioned!
Tumblr media
Living and loving Kurapika wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. He had anger issues that got out of control sometimes, he struggled to be emotionally vulnerable with you, and he had missed several date nights and special occasions to chase the Phantom Troupe.
The other three in your friend group saw you as a saint. “I don’t know how you handle all of that, (Name). I would have broken up with him long ago.” Leorio said, sipping on his beer.
You sighed, playing with the straw to your strawberry soda. “It’s tough, but… I’m holding onto hope. Once he gets revenge, I… I hope he’ll be ready to settle down with me. He’s talked about wanting children before. I… want that too.”
Leorio downed the rest of his beer, before letting out a huff. “You’re too kind and patient for your own good.”
Maybe he was right, but the Kurapika you got to see was different than the man that others did.
It was winter, and he hadn’t gotten a single lead on the scarlet eyes or Phantom Troupe in weeks. Christmas was around the corner, and the closer it got to the holidays, the more depressed he became.
When he wasn’t away on missions or business, he stayed with you at your apartment. For the past week, he had been struggling to get out of bed.
Despite him not taking good care of himself and often taking his sadness and anger out on you by yelling or pushing you away, you still held him in the late hours of the night as he sobbed.
“I miss them… god I miss my mom, I miss my dad… I miss Pairo…”
You rubbed soothing circles into his back, not minding that his hair was greasy or his clothes were covered in stains. You kissed his forehead and wiped away his tears, whispering sweet words of love.
“Why don’t we do something tomorrow? Something to get you out of the house, or at least out of bed,” you said softly, caressing his cheek. He didn’t answer, burying his face into your warm bosom.
Soon, within your comforting embrace, he was able to fall back asleep.
He would go through these depressive episodes sometimes, where he would barely eat, and stay in bed for several days. You always helped him do little things to make him feel better, like change his clothes and brush out his hair so it didn’t get matted.
The next morning, you woke up, gently leading him to the bathroom. He sat on the edge of the bathtub shyly as you filled it up with warm water. Kurapika seemed embarrassed, rubbing his arm.
“I’m sorry, I smell gross and look terrible…” he said softly, eyes focused on the floor.
You smiled, helping to pull off his shirt. “Everyone is gross sometimes. You didn’t mind when I was on my period and bled through my pants while we were on a date and even let me cover my butt with your jacket!”
He smiled shyly, his cheeks erupting in a blush when you pulled his pants and boxers off. “Th-that’s different. You couldn’t help that, I’ve just been lazy and I don’t deserve you-“
“Kurapika, we’ve talked about this! You’re not being lazy, you’re going through a lot! You’re allowed to feel upset, and I’ll be here to take care of you, just like you take care of me. You’re deserving of love and understanding.”
He had heard this from you multiple times, but each time it made him want to cry. No one had ever looked past the mask of anger and emotional unavailability he put up. You tore down his walls so easily, making him feel like putty in your hands.
Kurapika stayed silent, allowing you to wash his body, making soft content groans as you washed away all of the grime he acquired over the past week. You applied a cleanser to his face before scrubbing his hair, waving it smooth and fluffy after his bath.
Although he still felt pretty bad, a bath had helped a bit. He watched as you picked out some comfortable pajamas for him to wear. It was the morning, but honestly he appreciated you noticing he didn’t feel like doing much.
You dried him off before dressing him, the blonde leaning against you as you blow dried his hair. It felt nice being taken care of like this. In his teens, Kurapika would have never imagined someone caring about him so much that they were willing to bathe him when he was unwell.
“You’re… you’re the best thing that has ever happened to me.”
You blinked, your face heating up. He’s never been afraid to say he loved you, in fact you were sure that you may be the person he held the most dear in his life, but the words he just said held so much weight.
“Kurapika…”
You pressed kisses into his face, wiping away the stray tears that fell down his cheeks. “You’re my everything, Pika. I want you to be happy, truly happy.”
He sighed, pulling you close and hiding his face in your chest. Kurapika always felt so safe when he was in your arms. It was almost comical to him. You were so much weaker than he was, with the wrong move he could crush you, but right now your arms around him made him feel safe and protected.
“One day… when… when everything has been resolved…”
He looked up at you, smiling. “I’m going to make you my wife.”
You felt your heart do backflips in your chest, and he couldn’t help but laugh at your flustered face. “You’re really cute, (Name). I don’t think I’ve ever loved someone as much as I love you.”
After recovering from his sweet words, you applied moisturizer to his face and combed out his hair. When he looked in the mirror, he could still pick out all of the things he disliked about himself.
He was pale, thin, had bags under his eyes… but you always blushed when he looked your way, your heart thumping wildly when he kissed you. It made him feel a little less insecure.
Kurapika let you lead him to the living room and set him up on the couch with a Christmas movie and some breakfast while you cleaned up your shared room. You had been unable to change the sheets and blankets due to his state, and you really wanted to give him a fresh start.
You returned after making the bed and putting the dirty bedding on to wash. “You know…”
You lifted the edge of the throw blanket you’d covered Kurapika with, ducking under his arm he wrapped around you to lay your head on his chest. “This is nice. I wouldn’t mind sitting here with you all day.”
He grinned, giving you a bite of his pancakes before snuggling close to you. “I’d like that. Now I don’t stink, and I feel… better. Some cuddles with my lovely girlfriend would be nice.”
And that’s exactly what the two of you did, spending the entire day together. The only time you left each other’s embrace was to use the bathroom or for you to prepare meals. Soon, it was time for bed.
The sheets smelled nice and fresh, and cuddled up with you, Kurapika could already feel himself beginning to feel better. It would take time to heal, but little things like this showed him just how loved he was, and how much he loved you.
“Goodnight, my beloved. Tomorrow, I… want to try going outside.”
You smiled, kissing his cheeks. “That sounds nice, we can stop by that new bakery down the street for breakfast.”
Kurapika almost felt excited for the day to come, and it was all thanks to you. “I love you so much… you truly are the most important person in my life.”
“I love you too, Pika.”
You both fell asleep in each others arms, each falling a bit more in love with the other.

Yandere Phantom Troupe with a s/o who gets friendly with other partners
Characters: Chrollo, Phinks, Nobunaga and Franklin
A/n: Ehhhh just a small thing. Brain fried from school and lack of proper sleep. Hope my HXH fixation stays strong for a while longer 😍 Also i think the writing is lowkey ugly but I think it's mostly the brain fog
Also wanted to do Uvogin but miss girl I really can't with ts rn... Btw I dont do Franklin I just like his character. ONE TIME THING OK 👌
Also in my ghosting era. Sorry moots I'm dying but bitch im alive but I'm dead 💔
Chrollo
Now what the hell do you think you're doing?
It's good to see that you're still capable of social interaction, but getting all buddy buddy with the other partners will make him extremely jealous.
His jealousy doesn't stem from his fear of them taking you away from him, it's purely because he thinks that HE should be the only one you spend your leisurely time with. Not some nobodies.
Chrollo is very straightforward and verbal in his expression of feelings. He will tell you to knock it off and stay near him for now on.
Maybe he will be more lenient when you talk to them from a distance.
Disobey and you will lose many privileges. It's not too often the troupe has meetings, so if there is a next time to prove yourself, (Assuming you've made up a lot for it and have obtained outside pleasures) you'd better either keep your head to the ground, or your eyes boring into his.
Eyes are the windows to the soul aren't they? Personally, Chrollo agrees with this sentiment.
But if you're planning on escaping with the aid of that other partner, you better pray he takes some kind of psychological pity on you.
He WILL find out about it. Chrollo is a master manipulator and can read others out very well after some time.
Regarding that he has taken everything from you, he will know that you are keeping something from him.
It's not as if he didn't predict this, but it still dissapointed him.
Punishment is never tortuous, but it's direct and precise. Chrollo takes want he wants no matter how he gets it.
Sometimes you think of it as a blade hidden under his long sleeve. He closes in, saying things you wish not want to hear again, and strikes you in the most vital parts.
Phinks
Literally does not care that much if you don't make a big deal out of it. Though, he does make sure you stay close and listens in to check you're not conspiring or anything.
He will only get pissed if you seem really giddy after interacting with the other partner or if you keep looking around like an idiot for some kind of opportunity.
Somewhat playful about it. Phinks will tease you condescendingly, implying things you know you would be immensely punished for.
Your terrified face and nervous defensive speech strokes his ego a lot.
Yeah that's right, you're his. Only he works to make you that happy. Any other being trying to lure you into their untrustworthy hold will get their head spun around back and over.
But if you're planning something against him, he will have no hesitation and will take you back home that instant.
Informs troupe members he encounters that he has personal business while dragging you out by your arm.
The boss is more understanding when it comes to partner business, so he approves of his actions.
Punishment is painful yet effective. The next time the Troupe meets up, you dare not to look at anyone else. Especially that other darling.
It seems like they were punished too.
Nobunaga
Why the hell are you ruining everything for yourself?
He's a very moody and emotional person. Seeing you enjoy yourself with that other person will make him extremely envious and agitated.
If you're REALLY enjoying it then things will take a turn for the worst.
Nobunaga will walk up to the two of you and intimidate the other partner. The yandere of that partner will most likely not take kindly to that, and they will start to have a verbal dispute.
Chrollo will have to silence the two and might even toss a coin to decide what to do about the outburst.
When you two get home, you will be heavily interrogated. If you don't declare your very existence and devotion to your "relationship", then off to the lions you go.
Nobunaga always makes punishment personal; Insulting you and putting words in your mouth. Never leaves you alone and makes it a point to let you know how much you hurt him, and how bad he is going to hurt you.
But if you are simply having small talk, then Nobunaga will pull you aside and tell the yandere to keep their partner away from his lover.
The yandere will most likely agree or wave off to his demands, and keep what's theirs to themselves.
His grip is swift and harsh. You feel like a brick in calloused hands waiting for an open opportunity.
Nobunaga doesn't think before he acts in social situations. His feelings take over and his sword swerves up and around, aimed towards person contradicting his own view.
He is greedy, not selfish.
Safe to say that you now don't open your mouth at meetings anymore unless you're told to…
Franklin
Eh as long as you're happy and not doing anything stupid.
He knows you need to talk to someone else other than himself. You are human after all.
Franklin will question you about your conversations. He secretly hopes you talked about him in a flattering light, but he knows that most likely was not a subject brought up.
Unless you want to get smart and start conspiring, you best not let him hear in on too much or find out.
Franklin is an observer and only acts when needed. His quiet and large stature is enough to intimidate most, so when he tells you he knows, confess and apologize as if you life depended on it.
He is a very patient, rational and calculating man, so he knows what you need when you need it.
It's better to stay docile rather than to mess up because you thought you could fool him. Did you think just because you found an easy way out, that you had even the slightest chance of keeping it a secret from him? Franklin of all people?
The man who is basically the troupe's second leader, the man who literally shoots nen bullets out of his hands, the man who could SNAP YOU IN HALF if he wanted to.
Punishment is not as bad as it would be if you actually did escape, but it still resulted in you being closed off to others much more than to him.
But other than that he doesn't mind you a few friends here and there. Just as long as you're loyal to him, he carries on without much issue.
Isn't the jealous type. More possessive.

should I read jjk
idk, probably not
Its power system is very much an homage to Nen and powerscaling makes as little sense in JJK as it does in HxH, bless the authors curse the fandom.
Gege also sometimes uses anticlimax effectively like Togashi. The story, similarly to HxH doesn't overly concentrate on just one character.
I think Yuuji is an amazing protag, on par with Gon or Killua. I love the main villain and I very openly simp for the other main villain, as a character he's ok too.
Other characters are more hit and miss, some I love some I'm fed up with, and I won't say who and why because that would spoil the whole thing.
There's a lot of: things are set up and then pay off later in the story, a little like putting a puzzle together.
It fails at a lot of things it tries to do. It is rather left leaning for a shounen, and has some very strong leftist themes, but it's very uneven in handling some them, it doesn't always stick the landing.
It tries things and it fails. Gege seems to have got fed up with it half way through and seems to desperately want to wind it down, you can actually see where there were likely supposed to be character moments or plot developments and well they are condensed to off screen and exposition dumps, one fight feels like it was written by an editor or ghost writer from Gege's notes. ;-;
To me it's beautifully drawn but that's a personal preference.
I need to get traumatised by the story to get into the fandom. HxH took me for an emotional ride, JJK in its best moments too. I'm emotionally attached to Yuuji like I'm to Gon and Killua. I will always love it for what it did to me at its peak, no matter what Gege does to finish faster.
The fandom is atrocious. The either true lack of reading comprehension or willful misinterpretation is shocking. People has no attention span, they don't remember what happened earlier in the story, they will say lol what did I just read, and instead of reading the chapter again write that jjk makes no sense, that those who claim to understand it are lying, that it's boring and mid because they don't know what's going on in it. Some characters exist in fandom mostly as fanon and fans will openly reject canon. People will literally argue with manga panels. The transphobia, misgendering, thinly veiled homophobia, misogyny concealed as terfy "feminism" and racism are pervasive in the fandom. They will often be used to perform morality and write about how awful the author is. A lot of people think it's a cute joke to write very vile, violent things about the author, whenever the story doesn't go their way.
If you want this kind of mess in your life, then sure, read it. Maybe you will get attached to it, maybe just think it's whatever, no harm no foul. But if any of the above makes it not worth your time then it's understandable to ignore it, there's so much other stuff out there. Have you read the Summer when Hikaru Died?
__ edit
also, if you choose to give it a try start with the main story and maybe read Zero (the prequel) just before the Shibuya Incident ark starts. The writing in Zero is much weaker, the world is much less fleshed out.

First of all I hope you have a nice day! I was wondering if you could HxH hc Killua x Reader Gon, where the reader turns into a chimera ant (like Palm)? You don't have if you want, thank you 💙💙💙💙
Killua and Gon's reaction to the reader turning into a chimera ant
Genre: kinda angsty, fluff (at the end)
Pairing: platonic! Killua x reader x Gon
Warning(s): mention of death
Hello Anon! Thank you for the request! I actually really like this request, though I did have trouble while trying to figure out the exact timeline and if i wouldn't it to be detailed or not, i ended up making it a bit overly detailed, glad it worked out in the end tho. By how lengthy this is, Im guessing you can tell how much i enjoyed myself writing this :)
Posted on: 7/ August/ 2022
When you didn't come back from the exploration you were assigned by Morel, Gon and Killua immediately knew something was wrong. Something terrible happened to you, they could just feel it.
The chimera ants had already spread throughout the forest and cities, claiming them as their own. Kite had fallen victim to their sinister snapping jaws and a new chimera king has been founded.
Now the three of you were in the hands of Morel and knov, ready to take the risks of putting an end to the invasive species. You were meant to clear out the passage they were taking to sneak into the city the chemira ants had invaded, a simple task considering it was surrounded by mere lower grade ants and you were well versed when it came to combat.
The task was supposed to take a day or less to complete, however, when you didn't return after 3 days and you were no where to be found, panic started to arise in their chests.
When you went missing, the first thing the two did was go looking for you, or any sign of you for that matter.
But they couldn't find anything, nothing that led to you, not even a stray strand of hair. There were a relatively less amount of Ants that roamed the area now which meant you had been here.
Painfully so, Knov had to pull them back to reality when they wouldn't stop looking for you.
Gon was distraught, he was so out of it for a few days
Killua on the other hand tried to keep his composure, but he couldn't, he couldn't hide how hurt he was by your supposed 'death'.
After sulking for a few days, they lifted up their heads and continued hunting down the lethal creatures. Your dissapearance (or death, as they think) played a major role in their infinite feul of motivation to put an end to them once and for all.
It was when they were investigating a few towns, which had unfortunately been massacred by 'the national celebration', that they encountered you.
Well, not completely you, your mutated form. You didn't look the same but you were recognisable.
Its safe to say that they were both speechless and utterly stunned.
You remembered them, your memories were still intact however your emotions weren't the same.
Gon was happy when he finally realised what he was looking at, so you weren't dead after all. He was about to run towards you and envelope you into a hug but before he could, Killua stopped him.
Being the rational one of the two he quickly picked up on your odd behaviour and expressionless face.
Unannounced, you pounced at them, with full intentions to kill, as pouf had ordered you to.
Taken aback, they leaped away from you and continued to dodge your continues attacks, sometimes mistepping and getting hit by one of your many blows.
"What are you doing?! (Y/n) stop it! Don't you remember us?! You're our friend!!" Gon desperately yelled, trying to snap you out of whatever stupor you were in.
"I'm not your friend, I came here merely to kill you two. Sorry but your friend is gone." You responded nonchalantly.
Gon didn't have the heart to fight back despite you actively trying to get rid of him, but Killua knew better, even though it hurt to see you in such a state.
Eventually, he was able to trap you with the strings of his yo-yos and started to try and talk you out of your mindlessness.
"I am not the (Y/n) you once knew, Killua. Your holding on to a false hope. Now quit being so pethatic."
Of course he continued trying, which was all in vain.
Unfortunately for him, while he was going on about the hunter exam and how you met you managed to snap the strings of his weapons. Without a moment to spare you sprinted full speed his way, ready to finally shut him up for good.
Killua didn't have anytime to react, and only gawked at you in the few milliseconds he was given. Gon let out a helpless cry to his vulnerable friend but that was all he could really do
You paused right before him, your face mere inches away from his when all of a sudden the wall built inside your head to block your inner emotions had finally broken down.
Hppy ending! (Yay!)
Gon JUMPED on you, al most suffocated you (literally) with how hard he had his arm wrapped around your chest.
He kept crying about how much he missed you and how he never believed you were dead (partially lying)
And when you were done having your moment with your green haired friend, killua started yelling at you???
Well you weren't sure if he was angry at you or was just really happy that you're alive, but you suppose it was a mix of both.
After he was done yelling at you and gulping back down whatever emotions had managed to break theew his chambers, he engaged in a very awkward side hug with you, which was good enough for him.
Alas, the infamous trio was back and better than ever! They march towards the setting sun, ready to end the chemira species, together!

20 questions for fic writers
Tagged by @hxhhasmysoul and @subdee!! <3 <3 <3 who are both v lovely go like. look at their blogs. anyway
1. How many works do you have on ao3?
.161
2. What’s your total ao3 word count?
520,484 - 27% of that is one fic looool
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Right now just HxH and SW:Fallen Order series. Sherlock and Star Trek AOS were big ones too
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Closing the Space (Between Us) - again its 27% of my wordcount! It deserves it! the Hunter x Hunter Killugon Reunion fic of my dreams. I am SO PROUD of this one I have handed it to irl friends! On purpose! My partner got me a physical copy for Xmas 2021!
2. Crying Over Yuuri - a Kyou Kara Maou! fic, which is a fandom I am amazed is still being read. It's a Wolfram POV fic where he, you got it, cries over Yuuri. Pretty fluffy ending. I credit the numbers to the fact that not a lot of fic gets written for KKM anymore so it doesn't disappear under all the new stuff
3. Not Unusual - A ST:AO3 Academy Era McKirk. Bones gets a bunch of clues to something going on with Jim... he gets it a little wrong, Jim freaks out because this man has Issues, but it resolves in the end. I wrote this one as a pinch-hit for an exchange back when I was still RPing Jim Kirk @thewinningscenario
4. 5+1: Are They Or Aren't They? - Somehow my Mystrade (Sherlock BBC) still gets hits with fair regularity and I'll never understand why. It's definitely not my best work but it's cute! 5 times people weren't sure if Mycroft and Lestrade are dating, and the time they know (because they receive a wedding invitation!!)
5. One Flew East, One Flew West - a Killugon Modern AU in which Killua and Gon meet at a Psychiatric Recovery Center, with Kurapika as another patient and Leorio as a therapist. written for HxHBB2020. I'm very fond of this one. It makes me cry <3 I'm so happy there's so much fandom diversity in these! (The next 11 are all either HxH or Sherlock, l o l )
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I wish I could say I did! I mean to! Sometimes I am not in a good place so I mean to do it later and then I forget..... whoof. I am so thankful for each and every review, and I want to repay that!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I wrote a LOT of fics in my teens where people died (not all of them are on A03, it didn't exist at the time. I'm not giving you my ff.net ;) ) Surely, one of them! More recently, I wrote a Dragon Age: Inquisition Lavellan/Dorian in response to Dorian preemptively breaking up with me (rude!) that is Pretty Hecking Angsty. It's tagged "hurt no comfort"
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Closing the Space (Between Us) did so much work to get where it was, and they ended up with Everything! My boys <3 (And Alluka)
8. Do you get hate on fic?
Very rarely! I'm pretty lucky in life that I don't get hate generally. Maybe it's because I'm not Out There enough but- who cares! People are nice and sweet and lovely mostly, and I love writing fanfic for/with them :3
9. Do you write smut?
Sometimes it will appear in other fics. I don't really do PWPs, and smut itself is pretty rare because I don't include it unless it's... necessary? Kinda? Like if the story demands it. I personally only read smut in certain moods, so when smut's included I make it easy to skip, but it certainly exists
10. Do you write crossovers?
It depends! In my Sherlock days I had a Sherlock/Stargate Atlantis crossover series and a Sherlock in the HP universe series, but I haven't done any recently.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of! I heard people copy fics over to Wattpad sometimes but I've never looked. I'm not usually in MegaFandoms anyway, so I don't think I'm in any real danger.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
YES!! A few different Sherlock ones! (I guess I was pretty well known in the Mystrade sphere?? IDK that was back on livejournal. Anyone else miss KinkMemes?) I think one got translated to Russian and one to Chinese. Both reached out to me and asked for permission first, which I of course granted! It's very flattering <3
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Way way way back in my teen years I cowrote a few times- one in YuGiOh and one in Fruits Basket with a high school friend. Recently I am technically cowriting a fic with @spyscrapper atm- I say technically because its really an rp l o l (Star Wars: Jedi Survivor Canon Divergent Spyscrapper, it's pretty hecking cool! And painful! :D ) I once cowrote a fic where the other author just like. eliminated my plotline. so. It's not always good, but it's still fun to try!
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
I refuse to pick One. Killugon (HxH), McShep (Stargate Atlantis), Seishirou/Subaru (Tokyo Babylon & X/1999) and any combination of McSpirk (Star Trek) have probably had the most long-lasting impact on me. And
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably won’t?
I often feel like I should finish Pulling The Trigger because it's an interesting casefic and I like the thought of a mystery, but... it's 12 years old at this point, so...
16. What are your writing strengths?
Nature-themed metaphors and descriptions! And I feel like I have pretty strong character points of view! Oh, and angst. I'm good at angst. >:)
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Planning 🙃 oops what's that. And I use adverbs too much! (but it's fun so I'll keep doing it)
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
It depends why! If a fic is from the POV of Character A and Character B is talking in a language they don't understand, for example, it's fine to use it (though please provide a translation for your reader!) The language switch has to be for a specific reason, and if the character understands it the reader should too. (In One Flew, Gon and Killua sometimes swap to Japanese to disguise their conversations from everyone else- I show that by changing their conversation to italics in most cases.) I definitely wrote a fic as a teen that had all Japanese because I was a weeb and... lol don't do that.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Yugioh, 2001!! It was probably two paragraphs long hahaha

I don’t know why but this came up in my head🤣🤣🤣 btw I love and enjoy your work it gives me entertainment 🥰🥰🥰
Can I ask? Vil having a Marshallee like S/o or boyfriend like how they were at first when they met (or probably them annoying vil always like flirting and popping out of nowhere and singing song) and how they became a couple and few years of there relationship them or Rook invited Vil to a concert before vil could even go he saw there music journal when vil reads them making him realise that the songs they made and sang are meant for him all along the love song to break up song (they made it out of there frustrations thinking they’ll break up) when vil arrived what do you think he’ll react when it’s them singing “Good little girl” (or boy) or “Slow dance”? I hope your doing well btw author 😊😊😊 don’t forget to take care of yourself 😊😊😊
Hi, thank you for the ask! So, I really wish people didn't expect me to know all characters they want a mashup of because I usually don't know. And even if I do, like Nobunaga from HxH, there's other characters named "Nobunaga" so please just be specific with where you are pulling a character from, like Marshal lee who I never knew was a thing until now. I think I get what's going on with your request, but honestly I have no idea if it's completely accurate or not. Hope you enjoy it though, and for this I just left the s/o gender neutral.
Vil x marshallee!s/o
At first, to be honest, it probably bothered him a bit but because he's friends with Rook who's a pretty eccentric character himself, I doubt he would find you upsetting. He might tell you not to bother him if he's busy studying or memorizing lines for a film, but otherwise he won't mind
If he knows about your singing hobby or career, he'll support it. It's nice to have something you're passionate about, and if that's music to you then he'll be there to be your #1 supporter.
When you do invite him to a concert, he'll be honored to see you perform in a big event. He'll tell you he wants to buy the tickets but you insist that it's free, but he'll still buy the tickets anyways because he wants to :/
Before heading out to watch you, he might take a look at your music journal if it happens to be lying open. He doesn't like looking through others' things because he knows privacy's super important (something he sometimes misses out on because of his life in stardom) but this time his eyes wandered onto it.
The songs have a mix of happy and sad love music, of course some of them does make him wonder if you were upset with him.
After the concert, which he loved btw, he might ask you about the songs and if you had anything you wanted to vent to him. You can trust him with anything. The angsty songs during the concert were some of his favorites though, he's surprisingly into songs like that haha
Overall I feel like it will be a pretty chill relationship. He's your biggest fan btw

1.
Mito Freecs once told her nephew’s friends that they were always welcome at her home. She never imagined the frequency of times that they would take her up on that offer, not that she minded. Most times she’d forget that the boys that came to her home didn’t really have the best, if any, family at all. But, she could never complain about having extra guests over to polish off her Thanksgiving leftovers.
To show their gratitude, all four boys decided that they wanted to help out Mito with the preparations this year. Killua helped her set the table, Kurapika was in charge of cooking the turkey, and Leorio and Gon were in charge of sides.
Gon and Leorio had a… fun time with their dishes. The younger boy insisted that he could handle all of the cooking on his own, but after two dropped potatoes and spilled milk, it was evident that he could not.
“Okay, so let’s take things slow.” Leorio stated, hands behind his back, tying a bow on the apron given to him. “What would you like to make first?”
“Let’s make stuffing first!” The green-haired boy chirped, rushing to grab a stool to stand on.
“Okie doke. Let’s look at all of the ingredients we need, and the processes involved.” Leorio replied, grabbing Mito’s cookbook off of the shelf. “We need… some bread cubes, carrot, onion, celery, chicken stock aaaaaand some butter.”
“Can I help cut things?” Gon inquired, adjusting the little chef hat adorning his sparkly eyes.
“Yes, but be very careful.” The older male replied, grabbing a knife from the block.
The boy watched his friend intently, taking in exactly how small Leorio had sliced the onion. He deduced that Leorio wanted him to cut the carrots and celery at the same size.
“I’m gonna go check on Kurapika. He said he was going to help your grandma out in the garden. Please be very careful; your aunt is just in the other room if you need help.”
“Okay! Thanks!” With that, Gon got to work carefully slicing away at the carrots in front of him. He was content, happily humming a tune as he carefully cut through the vegetables. His ears tuned in to Mito and Killua chatting on the couch, and he noticed Leorio, Grandma and Kurapika entering the room to chat with them.
When he finished cutting the carrots, and put them in the bowl, Gon discovered that he didn’t know how to prepare the celery.
So, he called for Leorio. At least… he thought he did.
“Uhhh. I need some help! I don’t know how to cut the celery. Hey dad can you help me?”
He furrowed his brows when he saw five heads turning towards him. Was there something on his face? Was it something he said? What did-
“Hang on, buddy, I’m on the way.” Leorio announced, standing up to make his way into the kitchen.
“Yeah, dad. Go help your kid.” Killua dared to tease.
“Waaaaah! Did I really call you dad?” Gon cried from the kitchen.
Surely it was just a fluke?
“It’s okay! It happens to the best of us.” Though he tried to hide it, no one could miss the wobbly smile that decorated Leorio’s features as he rushed out of the room.
———
2.
Sometimes, Gon forgot that he was still just a kid. Sure, he had the stamina and power of a deity, and an inhumanely high pain tolerance, but he was still just barely a teenager. Kurapika deduced that he felt older because he was forced to grow up faster than other twelve year olds. Regardless of what others thought his age was, Gon was still a child.
And children had a high tendency to become ungodly sleepy at any given moment. Unfortunately for Gon, he was having one of those moments while he was hanging out in Leorio and Kurapika’s hotel room.
“Are you sure you’re awake, Gon?” Leorio asked with a cheeky smile.
“Most definitely!” The boy replied, eyes opening suddenly.
“Really? What was Killua just talking about then?” The oldest male inquired, seeing right through the boy’s defenses.
“Uhhh… Greed Island, yeah!”
The ex-assassin couldn’t help but chuckle, “Well yeah, but not exactly. I told them that we were saving our Jenny for the Yorknew Auction.”
“Yeah! I was totally paying attention.” The green-haired boy replied with a smile.
As time passed, Gon was meeting his maker. He did not want to go to sleep at all. The young hunter was relishing the tender moment between him and his friends, knowing that if he went to sleep now, they may never have a moment like this again.
“Gon? You still with us?” Kurapika inquired, causing two more pairs of eyes to fall upon the boy.
With his head laying on his arms, which rested atop the coffee table, the green-haired Hunter shot his friends a thumbs up. The three laughed, for Gon’s sagging eyelids brought his lie out to pasture. When the attention turned back to Kurapika’s nen stories, the boy watched his friend’s lips move with sleepy eyes.
“He’s barely conscious, Leorio. Should we let him go on like this?” The blonde asked suddenly, for he couldn’t help but worry for the little guy’s neck, and how much pain he would be in if he continued to lay there.
“You’ve got a point.” The med student replied, biting the inside of his cheek.
“If he’s awake enough to walk is the question.” Killua butted into the conversation.
“The two of you weigh like a hundred pounds.” Leorio stated matter-of-factly, “I can just carry him to bed.
The brown-haired male knelt down behind a barely awake Gon, placing a warm hand on the boy’s back. “Hey, buddy. Ready for bed?”
The green-haired boy didn’t reply. Instead, he lifted his head, rubbed his eyes, turned to face a smiling Leorio, and latched onto the older male, with arms around his neck.
“I’ll take that as a yes.” The med student said with a chuckle. “I’ll be right back.” He announced to the other two males in the room.
The gentle rumbling in Leorio’s chest, from his talking, only lulled the boy to sleep more. The older male opened the door, and quietly stepped next door to Gon and Killua’s hotel room.
“Okay, I’m gonna put you down n-“
“Noooo. Stay with me.” The sleepy boy demanded in a voice that was just above a whisper.
The med student smiled fondly, settling down onto Gon’s bed. He held the boy close, humming a gentle song.
The young hunter mumbled a quick message to the man holding him securely. “Thanks for staying with me.” A yawn followed. Then, “Goodnight, dad. I love you.” Gon didn’t even realize that he had said it, for he promptly fell into a deep sleep after the word was uttered.
The warmth that blossomed in Leorio’s chest was no stranger to him. He had felt it once before on Thanksgiving day. As he held the sweet boy close to him, he pondered heavily upon the accidental nickname given to him… again.
“I love you too, little guy. You’ll always be safe with me.” The med student kissed the crown of Gon’s head carefully, fearing he would somehow wake the snoozing boy in his arms.
———
3.
On the off days that Gon and Killua had the ability to just go out and be kids, they seized the opportunity instantly. There wasn’t a specific thing that they liked to do, so to say, they just enjoyed each others’ company and the leisure time. On one specific day, the two boys had a mission: teach Gon to skateboard.
In their defense, Killua was holding his hands the entire time. They just… didn’t see the stairwell. In an attempt to keep the boy from falling down the stairs, Killua yanked his friend’s hands upward, causing Gon to land on his feet.
Unfortunately, he landed on the side of his right foot, promptly twisting his ankle in the process. The white-haired boy cocked an eyebrow at his friend, an unspoken check-in. When Gon didn’t reply, Killua pursed his lips and began to guide his friend toward the abandoned board.
After one step on his right foot, the green-haired hunter yelped and fell on his butt. “Agh! Killua wait! Something’s wrong!”
Killua’s eyes widened, and he wasted no time placing his friend on his back. He grabbed the culprit from the base of the stairwell, and carefully rode home. If Gon lived to tell the tale, the two of them would be in a serious pickle afterward.
The two boys made it back to Leorio’s apartment (safely, thankfully), and burst through the front door. “Hey! Leorio, Kurapika!” Killua called in a panic, “Gon’s hurt!”
Upon hearing their name, and the young boy’s tone, the two males raced into the foyer. Their hearts dropped when they saw Gon on Killua’s back, tears pricking the corners of his eyes.
“Killua, give me Gon. Kurapika, sit down with Killua and find out what happened.” Leorio was uncharacteristically calm. The blonde deduced it was to keep the young ones calm.
The white-haired boy obliged, carefully transferring his friend from one piggyback ride to another. As he sat down with Kurapika to share their tale of woe, the brown-haired male disappeared down the hallway. Leorio settled the injured boy down on his own bed, kneeling down to his level. “Where does it hurt, buddy?”
A sheepish Gon carefully kicked his right foot up with a sniffle. The med student carefully took off the boy’s shoe and took his foot in between two fingers. Gently pulling the sock down a little revealed a mess of blue and purple on his ankle. Yep, definitely just a twist.
“Oh dear…” Leorio mumbled, taking his time to examine. “Gon… it looks like…”
More tears rushed to the poor boy’s eyes as he awaited his diagnosis.
“It looks like…” the med student couldn’t help the smile that broke out over his features, “you’re gonna be just fine.”
Gon sighed in relief, thankfully it wasn’t as bad as his mind had convinced him it was. He wiped his eyes with a chuckle. “Phew. That makes me feel better, thanks dad.”
Both males looked up and stared at each other for a moment with wide eyes. They both sat blinking for at least a second, registering Gon’s usage of the nickname, again. The boy’s ears subsequently sported a gorgeous scarlet hue. “Aaagh! How do I always manage to do that?!”
The med student couldn’t help the chuckles that erupted from his chest, “C’mere kiddo.” He pulled his patient into a tight embrace. “Not to worry, son. No matter what, Doctor Leorio will always fix you right up without fail!”
The two stayed in their embrace for a while, for both males enjoyed the contact greatly. Leorio wondered if this is what Ging missed out on: the sweet and tender, no to mention accidentally embarrassing, moments. The brown-haired male soon felt the familiar warm feeling in his chest once again. When it dawned on him that he got these moments with Gon before his actual father did, it made him feel… happy in a way.
———
4.
Christmastime on Whale Island has to be Gon’s favorite place in the world. All of the townspeople get together and rig up lights on every single tree. Moreover, Aunt Mito lets him help in the kitchen. This year, his friends were over for Christmas. That meant that the boy had to make at least three dozen more cookies.
The morning before Christmas Eve came quickly. Gon awoke quite early, prepared to help his Aunt with the cookies. He out of bed, got dressed, and raced to the kitchen. Like he does every time he cooks, he placed his chef hat on his head, and had Mito tie his apron.
“Okay, Gon. I have to help your grandmother wrap the extra gifts. Do you think you can handle baking on your own this year?” Mito asked as she rested a hand on her nephew’s shoulder.
“Uh huh! I’ve watched you enough times to know what to do!” The young hunter chirped in reply, dragging the recipe book toward him.
“I’ll leave you to it.” The woman chimed as she exited the kitchen, “Oh, good morning boys!” She greeted as she saw the others on her way out.
“Morning, Mito!” Killua replied with a smile. He approached his best friend, glancing over his shoulder at the recipe book, “Cookies?”
“Cookies!” The green-haired boy replied excitedly, “Wanna help?”
With heavy persuasion from Gon, each of the three males in the kitchen were somehow involved in the cookie baking process. Killua made fridge and pantry runs for ingredients, Kurapika was in charge of the butter and sugar mixture, and Leorio oversaw the entire disasterprocess.
“Man, Kurapika, you’re a natural at this.” Leorio noted after stealing a glance at the focused blonde’s handiwork.
“Oh, really? It’s not much talent, more so following instructions.” The Kurta replied with a tinge of sheepishness.
“Oh and you’re so good at that.” The med student dared to tease, swiping some loose flour off the counter and tapping the boy’s nose with it.
Kurapika tried to look offended, his mouth agape and glare sharp as a tack, but Gon’s sudden giggling made it hard to stay stoic for long.
“Killua look, Kurapika has flour on his nose.” The young hunter said through his laughter.
“Wow…” Killua replied, “Are you gonna stand for this, Kurapika?”
The blonde looked between his two younger friends, and a cross-armed, brow quirked, Leorio. He pondered upon his answer for a moment. “Nope!”
The left side of the kitchen was filled with Kurapika’s occasional yelps, and the older boys’ war cries and laughter. On the right side, Gon couldn’t help but smile to himself.
“Ging would’ve loved you guys.” The young hunter said as he dumped the required powders into a large bowl.
“You say that like we’ll never find him.” Killua replied, looking up at his best friend’s face. “We will.”
Gon sighed, looking at Killua, then at the portrait hanging in the hallway. “We will.”
When all of the dry ingredients were mixed and ready, the green-haired boy knew it was time for the egg mixture. So, without averting his gaze from the photograph, he asked if it was ready.
“Hey I’m all finished here, did Kurapika finish his part, dad?”
The laughter and war cries came to an abrupt halt, all eyes focused on the young boy.
“Dude!” Killua hissed, “That’s Leorio!”
“A-“ Gon’s mouth hung agape as he frantically looked between the painting and a flour-covered Leorio. “I was- the painting- I… waaaaah! I do this so often now, it’s not even funny!“
“Heh, yeah. Leorio might as well be your dad now, you know, with the amount of times you’ve called him it.” the white-haired boy teased in response.
Upon hearing this comment, Leorio looked at Kurapika with a gentle flush on his face. The blonde knew exactly what was in his friend’s mind, and smiled back at him. To add even more fuel to the fire in his mind, the warm feeling in Leorio’s chest came back. It seemed that the universe was trying to tell him something…
“Hey, Kurapika… I’ve got a crazy idea.”
———
5.
As a hunter, a person is exposed to dangers both big and small. From the smallest frog, to the largest foxbear, even to other hunters. For Gon, he had his fair share of experiences from all three of those things. On a particularly stormy night, the young hunter found himself plagued with nightmares.
Dream after dream, monster after monster, the poor boy could just not escape his own mind. Though he awoke a few times in the night, he was able to go back to sleep.
Until one specific dream pulled him away from the desired peaceful slumber. Gon thought that he had seen the last of this person. He thought that he had left them behind at Heaven’s Arena, and that his life would finally be safe and happy.
Unfortunately Hisoka followed him everywhere, including in his bad dreams…
Leorio looked up from his crossword puzzle with a sudden start, catching the attention of the blonde seated next to him. “Something wrong, Leorio?”
“I thought that I heard something. Maybe I’m just hypersensitive from work today.” The med student replied, closing his eyes gently. He kept his ears on alert, listening intently to the silence in his apartment.
A sudden cry grabbed both males’ attention.
“NO! GET AWAY! LEAVE ME ALONE!”
Without a need for words, the two were on their feet and bounding down the hallway.
When they reached Gon and Killua’s bedroom, they were met with the white-haired boy kneeling at his best friend’s bedside. He looked distraught, as if he was scared to wake the boy.
“It’s okay, Killua.” Kurapika whispered, “Come here.” He held out a hand.
While wiping his eyes, Killua trudged over to the blonde’s side and held his hand. “I couldn’t wake him up. Well… I didn’t have it in me. I think he’ll be more scared if we try to touch him.”
“Hey, Kurapika, can you get Killua something to drink for me? I’ll stay here with Gon.” After confirmation from his friend, Leorio stepped quickly, but cautiously, over to the bedside. He knelt down and waited, for Killua was right, touching him and waking him would only make Gon more scared.
Fortunately, the brown-haired male didn’t have to wait much longer. Gon shot up from his bed with an anguished shriek. As he panted and readjusted to reality, the young hunter focused on the hand that gently warmed his back.
Gon looked to his left to see Leorio kneeling next to his bed, sporting a sympathetic look that couldn’t even be described with words. “H-He’s not here… is he?”
“Who, buddy?” The med student moved in a little closer, hoping to hear the boy’s quiet words.
“Hisoka… he’s- he’s not gonna get us… right?”
“No, Gon. Everyone is safe, and Hisoka is no where near here.” The hand that Leorio had on the boy’s back began to gently rub up and down, “It’s okay.”
Out of nowhere, all of the fears that Gon had experienced in his dream came out in the form of heavy sobs. Leorio was quick to wrap the boy in a hug, holding him close. “I-I was so scared! H-Hisoka he… D-Don’t ever let him get us! You ha-have to promise me! Dad please!”
“I promise you. Everyone is safe here, little guy. I’m not going anywhere, and neither are you. Kurapika and Killua are in the kitchen, and you and I are right here. There’s no one else at home besides the four of us.” The brown-haired male soothed, gently rocking the boy back and forth.
“Please don’t go. I’m… im scared to go back to sleep.” The boy whispered through his hysterics, not wanting to see the frightening face that he had just previously been exposed to.
“How about…” the med student began, causing Gon’s bleary eyes to meet his, “We all have a sleepover. We can set up our pillows and blankets in the living room, and we can put on that one movie about the singing skeletons that you and Killua love so much.”
“We can watch Coco?” The boy asked with a sniffle, bringing a hand up to wipe his eyes. The sweet look on his face absolutely warmed Leorio to the core… the funny feeling in his chest lingering for reasons unknown.
“Yes Gon, we can watch anything you’d like.”
———
1.
Gon stood anxiously in the foyer of Leorio’s apartment, peering out of the window as often as possible. He couldn’t stay in his and Killua’s bedroom any longer, for he was too nervous. The deluge of pouring rain made it hard to see, but he still had to try. Any time that he wasn’t met with the desired sight, his heart began to race as tears pricked the corners of his eyes.
Leorio was late.
He was never late.
In this weather, the young hunter could only assume that the worst had happened.
“He’s okay, Gon. The rain is heavy, so he’s probably backed up at the hospital.” Kurapika’s soft voice entered his ears, as he felt two hands holding his shoulders. Gon deduced that his friend had come from the master bedroom, where he had priorly been reading. “I promise you, Leorio will come home.”
“H-How do you know?” The boy whispered, tears finally falling.
“He just does.” This time, it was Killua’s turn to help. The white-haired boy appeared in front of Gon, and wiped his best friend’s tears with his thumbs. “I’m sure the old man stopped for milk and eggs, like he always does. You know how much he loves going to the stupid market.”
“Yeah…” the boy sniffled, “I hope he brings us all home a cookie again.” His voice was tiny, but he couldn’t bring himself to talk any louder.
With a sudden accompaniment of falling rain, the front door opened. A very soaked Leorio exhaled loudly, and shut the door with his foot, since his hands were full of shopping bags. He placed the bags on the ground, and began to speak to his friends as he took his shoes off. “Man, it’s really coming down out there. I figured that I should stop and get us some flashlights and cookies in case if we lose elect- Gon? What’s the matter buddy?”
The young hunter’s tears had began falling faster out of nothing but pure relief. He was home… Leorio was finally home safe. His best friend, his favorite kitchen partner, his go-to story reader, his… his… his-
“DAD!” Gon cried out, jumping into the med student’s arms and lamenting all of his anxieties.
“I’ve got you buddy, I’m here. It’s okay… everything is alright.” Leorio hummed, running a hand along the back of the boy’s head. “Please don’t cry, Gon. I’m so sorry that I scared you.” He knelt down, sitting on the backs of his calves, and held the boy as if he would disappear.
Kurapika and Killua watched the scene unfold in front of them, hearts both breaking and warming at the sweet moment. Eventually, the green-haired boy trusted that Leorio wouldn’t be going anywhere anytime soon, but his nerves were still settling slowly. “Y-you can’t leave, ever again. Do you he-hear me? Never.”
“Never ever?” The older male teased, gently kissing the young hunter’s forehead. “Not even for school?”
“No. Never ever.” Gon replied, burying his face into the med student’s chest. “You can’t go anywhere ever again, we can send Kurapika for milk and eggs, or we can all take turns.”
“Aw man, that’s like my favorite thing to buy at the store though.” Leorio faked displeasure upon hearing the statement.
Gon looked up at him, “Okay maybe for milk and eggs, but I’m coming with you.” The low rumble that escaped Leorio’s chest provided even more comfort to the boy.
“You’ve got yourself a deal.” The brown-haired male replied.
“Good.” The young hunter replied sleepily, a yawn following his demands.
“How about I take you to bed, little guy?” Leorio asked softly, carefully standing to his feet.
“Only if you stay with me. You’re not allowed to leave.”
“And why is that?” The med student asked, mouthing a few words to his friends, then walking down the hall to the master bedroom. He settled into his own bed, ensuring Gon’s comfort,
The boy cuddled up to his chest, “Because I finally have a real dad that loves me, and I don’t want to lose him.” After that statement, the older male was sure that Gon had fallen asleep.
With a single tear trickling down his cheek, Leorio held the sleeping boy tightly. “I love you so much, little guy. You, and our little family. I’m so glad that you all agreed to live here with me.” Leorio had the gentle sound of falling rain, and the all-too familiar feeling of blossoming warmth in his chest, to keep him company as he waited for the boy to fall asleep.
Nothing but silence filled the room as he pressed a gentle kiss to Gon’s forehead. He looked up to see Kurapika and Killua waiting patiently for him. Leorio smiled and pat the bed beneath him, inviting the rest of his family to join him and Gon.
When all four of them were snuggled close in bed, a whispered voice broke the silence in the room.
“I love you too, dad.”

Thanks for the tag @hereforthelizardsex !
Last song: Through Me (The Flood) - Hozier (was secretly hoping he played that in the concert, alas)
Favorite color: Black, green and blue, but mostly missing bright green atm
Currently watching: Atla (already in book 3) but they also put HxH back in Netflix so 💚
Sweet/savory/spicy: savory and spicy
Relationship status: nonexistent but I'm cool abt it, its been 10 years since I've truly felt for someone and the idea of ever feeling that again makes me slightly curious and sometimes melancholy but it's mostly terrifying, mainly becos I've never been in an adult relationship and also cos everybody around me is so uninteresting in that department (also being in the aroace spectrum definitely helps, I know some people who would had already lost it or would have made very stupid decisions if they were in my situation)
Current obsessions: language and linguistics. I'm taking this specialisation course in uni for teaching Spanish as a foreign language and the current subject is linguistics but also cos I'm tutoring some kid from Bolivia in greco-Latin etymologies before he begins HS here, so a lot of my readings got to do with suffixes and morphemes and sociolinguistics etc.
Tagging (no pressure): @galacticstar @like-a-million-suns @headaches-and-coffee @edmy @hyperboreus and whoever else feels like doing it!

Im so sorry for the super late response!! Im not even going to question the heat pill and how it came from pitou 💀 at least tell me reader gave consent to being mutated and it wasn't something killua just decided for her….. I totally get being a Virginia and all, it's just that your other killua fics were a lot more detailed and longer. The neko one seemed more like it was done in a hurry. Don't want this to come off as me complaining though, because I know I'D definitely feel a little disheartened if one of my requesters told me they were disappointed with my work. It was fine, really! And anyway, anyone, even the best smut writer, has room for improvement :) I really appreciate that you'll let me know if you can do my request or not, not a lot of writers do that and it's really helpful, instead of just leaving me waiting and wondering. (God knows how many of my requests have actually been made but I don't know because I stopped checking…) With that out of the way, here are my two requests! 🌸
You said you'd be fine writing more killua x neko reader. So I was thinking perhaps just general relationship headcanons, sfw and nsfw. And this time, it takes place in the hxh world where reader was BORN that way and that's not exactly weird lmao. No pituo pill 💀 same personality: shy, sweet, cute, cuddly, you know..
And for my second request, I'm not sure if this counts as a hc, I guess it does, it's basically just me asking for your thoughts on this: I've being wondering about this for a while. I didn't think it, but turns out silva and kikyo do actually love each other. So killua probably grew up seeing those expressions of "love" and thinking that's normal for a relationship. How do you think that would affect his relationship with reader? And if it isn't too much, how do you think his overall experience with his family effects it? Because I highly doubt after everything he's gone through that his relationship with the reader would be perfectly normal.
It's totally fine if you only want to do one of those, or even none. No pressure! And take all the time you need. Thanks in advance :)
PS: you said you had some ideas of your own, so feel free to write them if you feel like it. i check your account sometimes, so I won't miss your killua content. But I understand if your busy and can only write what is requested. But you haven't posted anything for 2 weeks now, so I THINK it's safe to assume you don't have or get a lot of requests. So in the meantime, you could write and post your own fics. Just an idea though! (I hope this isn't coming off as forceful...) this is already super long, sorry about that, so good night/morning/evening and I look forward to hearing from you!
You check my account sometimes 🥺🥺🥺
I really appreciate it and I was just thinking about writing another neko one, but maybe a relationship head Canon set would help me with the writing a bit.
I for sure like your suggestions, and I just like the crazy side of yandere's. A lot of my personal ones have a lot of stalking lmao.
I'll probably put out something for another character today and here in the next few days get some Killua X neko stuff in my drafts and at least one out.

BEFORE THE HUNTER EXAM
(Name) pulled her cover off and placed her sock covered feet on the cold floor. It was another sleepy Tuesday morning, the sun shining onto her messy bed.
Her legs were still tired from her long walk from her campus yesterday. She yawned into her hand as she poured her coffee into the cat paw patterned cup her little brothers gave her for her birthday.
(Name) sipped slowly. The cheap store brand coffee wasn’t amazing, but it was better than nothing. She glanced at her phone to see a missed call from her mother.
‘She never calls. Must of heard of the news from school…’
She pressed call, waiting a few seconds before her mother picked up.
“You idiot, I can’t believe you dropped out! After all the money your dad and I-“
“I’ve already sent a check reimbursing you for the classes you paid for.”
Her mother gasped. “You disrespectful little… I hope you know we’ll be cutting you off for this. We already had low expectations for you, and you couldn’t even meet those. What a useless girl you are.”
(Name) sighed. ‘Cut me off? Not like you were supporting me much anyways.’
She looked around her crappy apartment with a sigh.
“And you’re taking the Hunter Exam. Well good for you. You gave up being a nurse to take the most dangerous test in the world. How smart of you.”
Sarcasm and hate dripped off of her voice like venom. (Name) didn’t respond. She was used to this by now, only sighing.
“Is that all you wanted to say?”
Her mother was quiet for a moment.
“No. In fact, I wanted to let you know that any further contact from you will be considered harassment. You will not be contacting any members of our family after this call.”
(Name)’s eyes widened, her cup slipping to the floor. “Wait, you don’t mean-“
“Yes. You will not be able to see your brothers. Ever again.”
She hung up the phone. (Name) stared down at the shattered cup before quickly trying to call her mother back.
“Please, pick up mom… not my brothers. You can’t take them from me!!”
But she didn’t answer, and soon she wasn’t able to call her at all.
‘Must of blocked me…’
She sat down, not caring about the coffee that had splashed on her legs and began to burn her skin. (Name) could only stare down at the shards of the only gift she had from her brothers.
(Name) glanced at the Hunter Exam application, tears pooling in the corners of her eyes.
‘Why not, not like I have anything to lose.’
The next few months (Name) went about life in a blur. She trained for the exam, slowly distancing herself from the small acquaintances she had from college, and breaking her lease.
She packed her backpack the night before the exam, placing several pairs of outfits, some canteens of water, food, other various items, and a dagger.
It was enough to be a good weight against her back, but not too heavy to make running or climbing difficult.
The last thing she packed into her bag was an envelope, carrying a letter.
“…”
She stared at the letter for a moment before stuffing it into the bottom of her bag, where it would be safe. It was the most important item in there, after all.
And she didn’t want anyone to read it until the time came.
———————
The first few trials of the exam had been hard, but she’d managed to scrape through and finally arrive where the First Phase would be held.
(Name) held onto one strap of her backpack quietly. Her navigator had been a bit worried for her, asking if she was okay.
“Yes, I’m alright. Just nervous I guess.”
The navigator nodded slowly. “I see. I think you’ll do well, dear, and if you don’t there’s always next year! I’ll see you then, yeah?”
(Name) looked down at her feet, not answering the woman. The navigator sighed before smiling.
“Good luck, I hope you pass!”
(Name) gave her a small smile back, waving as the doors closed and she began to descend. Her heart began to race. So far, she’d only met a few other Hunter applicants, all of them unkind. She was beginning to lose hope that she’d be able to make any type of alliances.
Not that she cared all that much. She didn’t think she’d be passing anyways.
Or surviving.
She looked down at the badge the navigator had given her.
‘#406. That must mean there are over 400 other applicants. Great.’
The doors opened up and (Name) walked out. Heads turned to stare at her, a few whistles and nods of approval could he heard and seen.
It wasn’t unexpected to (Name). After all, she was wearing a short white tennis skirt, and a pink cardigan over a white undershirt. Out of everyone else in sight, she seemed to be the only one dressed in such a way.
(Name) sighed as she joined the crowd. She looked around, her eyes glancing between each applicant before she spotted someone.
‘Oh thank god.’
She ran forward and grabbed onto a blonde woman’s sleeve, tugging it lightly.
“Hey there! I’m so glad I’m not the only woman here. Would you like to team up? Girls supporting girls and all?”
The blonde turned to her and blinked, tilting her head.
“Oh, um… you can join us, but…”
She blushed lightly, obviously embarrassed.
“I’m not a girl.”
(Name) tilted her head as the person next to the blonde bursted into laughter.
The blonde scowled and turned to the man. “And what is so funny, Leorio?”
The man, supposedly named Leorio, continued laughing. “Th-the first girl we meet and she thinks you’re a girl too! This is priceless!”
(Name) tightened her grip on the straps of her backpack. “I apologize. You’re just so pretty, I thought you were a girl.”
Yet again, the blonde blushed. “It’s alright, I promise. You said you were looking for someone to team up with, correct?”
She nodded as Leorio’s laughter died down. “Well you can stay with us. I’m not sure if we’ll be together the entire exam, but you’re welcome to tag along.”
“I sure wouldn’t mind a pretty little lady like you being on my t-“
The blonde hit him over the head with some sheathed weapon. “Ouch, Kurapika what was that for?”
The boy called Kurapika huffed. “I won’t have you being a creep to our new comrade. It’s disgraceful.”
“New comrade?”
A boy, who looked no older than twelve approached the group. “Oh, Gon! This girl asked to join up with us.”
(Name) waved at him. “Hello, I’m (Name).”
“That’s a beautiful name for a beautiful lady.”
Leorio grabbed her hand with both of his and shook it. “Welcome to the team!”
She shook hands with the others as well, looking away shyly when her hand touched Kurapika’s.
‘He really is pretty…’
Kurapika smiled. “I bet the exam has been full of trials, did you come here alone?”
“Yes, the only other applicants I’ve met have tried tricking or hurting me into failing. I’m glad I’ve finally met some nice people.”
Kurapika’s face shifted into a grimace. “That’s deplorable. But I guess it’s to be expected. The applicants could be anyone, meaning there’s bound to be bad people.”
(Name) sighed, pulling out a water canteen from her bag and sipping on it. “Any idea on what the first phase will be?”
When she caught Gon staring at the canteen, she offered it to him. He took it with a smile. Everyone took a sip before handing it back to (Name).
“I see you’ve come prepared. If you don’t mind me asking, what else do you have in your backpack?”
She frowned slightly but pulled it over her shoulder and into her hands. “Not a ton of things, but I have some snacks and water, along with a few different outfits.”
Kurapika blinked. ‘Oh, I guess different outfits would be important to a woman.’
She offered the three some hard candy, which Gon and Kurapika took. As they waited for the phase to begin, they chatted amongst themselves to get to know each other.
“You dropped out of medical school!?”
Leorio seemed almost angry, but was calmed down when he saw the sad look on her face.
“Yes, I did. It’s not that I don’t want to go, I just… I didn’t really have a choice in what I was studying. I decided to take the Hunter Exam on a whim, really. I…”
She didn’t finish her sentence, quickly smiling to hide that she almost let her secret spill.
“I’m excited to succeed!”
Leorio’s eyes softened. She was hiding something, but he could tell it wasn’t sinister. It was more for their sake then her’s.
“I hope you do.”
———————
A sharp ringing sounded throughout the large room. A man named Tonpa had walked over and talked to the group a bit, (Name) not paying him much attention. She was much too busy chatting with Kurapika, who seemed happy to share his experience with the exam with her.
The group looked up to see a man with short purple hair and a curly mustache standing before them, holding the ringing alarm. He stopped it before speaking.
“As of this moment the exam is closed to any further applicants. I would like to officially welcome everyone here to the Hunter Exam.”
Gon grinned. “Alright, finally, it’s gonna get started!”
“Aw man, I can’t believe I’m getting nervous.” Leorio said, loosening his tie.
“Come with me. Let me take a moment to remind you all that the Hunter Exam is extremely demanding. If you’re unprepared or unlucky, you may well be injured or killed. If you are alright with accepting those risks, then you may continue following me.”
The group followed after him, (Name) sticking by Kurapika. He may not be a girl, but out of all of them he seemed the most trustworthy and reliable.
“Very well then. The number of applicants is 405. At least for now.”
(Name) thought back to when Hisoka had taken one of the applicants out, holding the straps to her backpack a little tighter as she walked.
Leorio glanced around the crowd. “I guess I should have expected it, but no one’s backed out yet. I hoped there might be a few.”
(Name) hummed. “If they’ve made it this far, I doubt they’ll be backing out anytime soon.”
Kurapika nodded. “Yes, I agree. Just the path to the Hunter exam is full of trials and tribulations that would make ordinary men- oh and women, give up.”
(Name) suppressed a giggle. “Mhm.”
The people in the front began to speed up. “Hey, he’s picking up the pace!” Kurapika said with a frown.
“Sorry for the delay, but allow me to introduce myself. I’m Satotz, the examiner for the First Phase. I’m also the one that’s leading you to the sight for the Second Phase. Some of you may have already realized that keeping up with me until we reach the Second Phase is in fact, the First Phase.”
Their light jog turned into a run, and thirty minutes passed with no change in pace.
(Name) sighed lightly as she kept pace with the group, having to hold a hand over her chest to keep it from bouncing too much. ‘Went through the trouble of wearing two sports bras for no change in the outcome. Annoying.’
(Name) paid no attention to Tonpa explaining that this phase was not only a physical test, but a psychological one. She didn’t really care, (Name) was too busy focusing on her breathing and heavy backpack.
A boy came racing in between them riding a skateboard. (Name) glanced at him from the corner of her eye.
“Wow, that’s cool!” Gon called with a smile.
“Hey, kid on the skateboard, that’s not fair! You’re cheating!”
(Name) hummed and ran a bit ahead. She didn’t really feel like hearing Leorio harass a random kid. Kurapika watched her for a moment before following behind her.
“Sorry, he can be a bit annoying sometimes.”
Kurapika gave her a small smile, running beside her. (Name) shook her head. “No reason to be sorry. I’m just… not in the mood to hear someone yelling right now.”
“Hmm, that’s fair. Leorio can be pretty loud and obnoxious.”
(Name) hummed. “I happen to usually like loud and obnoxious people I’ll have you know. It’s just hard to to tolerate when I’m already tired from running.”
They both laughed. (Name) reached into her backpack and pulled out her canteen. “You thirsty? It’s been thirty minutes.”
He nodded. “Yes, thank you.”
Kurapika took a drink before he handed it back. The girl immediately shoved it back into her bag, Kurapika raising an eyebrow.
‘Why did she take it out if not to take a sip for herself?’
He didn’t voice this question, instead focusing on his legs, willing them forward.
“So, Kurapika, how old are you?”
The blonde tilted his head. “Why do you ask?”
She shrugged, shouldering her backpack again. “Just curious. If you want to know, I’m 18 myself.”
“17, 18 in April.”
(Name) nodded. ‘So we’re about the same age. Interesting…’
“And apparently Leorio is 19.”
“19!? He certainly doesn’t look the part.”
The two laughed again, (Name) nearly tripping, but quickly being steadied by Kurapika.
“Woah there, watch where you step. It is dark in here.”
(Name) nodded, lightly flustered from his grasp on her wrist. He let go quickly, seemingly unfazed by the physical contact.
3 hours pass by, and (Name) was beginning to get tired. The group stopped when Leorio collapsed, (Name) immediately rushing to his side. She dropped next to him, patting his back and offering him some water.
“Leorio!” Gon began running to join Leorio when the white haired boy, Killua called out to him.
“Hey, what do you think you’re doing? He’s finished, so just leave him behind.”
Gon frowned. “Come on, you don’t know that! Besides I can’t just leave him here, he’s my friend!”
“Friend?”
“Uh huh. That’s what I said.”
After chugging the rest of the water from one of her canteens, Leorio began to stand. “I’m not giving up… I came here to become a Hunter and that’s what I’m gonna do!”
(Name) watched as he rushed forward, Tonpa sighing.
“Hey take it easy, you need a break.”
“Shut up! If you’re just gonna stand around here, I’ll leave you… in my dust… hah hah… aww great, my legs won’t move.”
(Name) walked forward and handed him a handkerchief to wipe his sweat away with. Kurapika watched this interaction, his eyes watching her face twist into concern for a man she’d just met.
“So you’re not just in it for the money.”
Leorio huffed. “No, it’s all about money. There’s no other reason…”
“We don’t have time to argue about this. What do you think we should do now, Tonpa?”
(Name) stood up straight again, stretching lightly.
“Hmmm, wait a sec, that smell! Do ya remember? There was a sweet smell from that tunnel. Hey, I think it might help you recuperate!”
“What?”
“I thought I recognize that smell, I think it’s the sap of the healing cedar tree!” Tonpa exclaimed.
“Healing cedar?”
“Yeah! The sap is used by Hunters who often become exhausted in the forest. All you have to do is smell the aroma for a while and you can recover and keep on going.”
Kurapika stopped Tonpa from carrying Leorio away. “Wait a minute, it could be a trap.”
“Maybe, but we can’t just leave him behind now, can we? It’s a chance we’re gonna have to take.”
The blonde frowned. “Yes, but…”
“I’m king of the flunkies. You wanna know why I failed the exam 34 times? I’m a sucker for anyone that needs my help.”
(Name) raised an eyebrow at this. She glanced between Leorio and Tonpa.
“It’s okay. As soon as Leorio recovers, we’ll catch up to you, I promise.”
“I’m sorry, Tonpa… Gon, Kurapika, (Name), don’t worry about me. Go for it!”
(Name) crouched down and rearranged her backpack as the others spoke, then stood as they began to leave, watching Leorio carry him away with a suspicious look.
‘Don’t trust him one bit.’ She thought.
“What are you doing, are you coming or not?”
“Oh yeah, sorry to keep you waiting. You can go on ahead.”
Killua tilted his head. “You mean you’re not going to keep going?”
“Yeah, not unless it’s with Leorio.”
(Name) nodded. “Me either. I’m still worried for him, he wasn’t doing too hot…”
Both Gon and Kurapika noticed her staring into the distance, clutching her cardigan tightly.
“Kurapika, I’m going to see how they’re doing. Tonpa said they’d be okay, but I’m still worried.”
“I’ll come with you. We can always catch up to the group later on.”
Gon nodded towards Killua. “Alright, we’ll be back. Then, if you want, you can tell me your name. Because I still don’t know what it is.”
Kurapika glanced at (Name). “Will you be coming as well?”
She gave him a quick nod. “Of course. I can’t just abandon someone in need.”
He didn’t respond, racing after Gon towards where they had last seen Leorio and Tonpa heading.
But he did feel something stir in his chest when his eyes met hers.
‘She’s kind. It’s… nice to see that in such a place.’
The three stopped when they spotted Tonpa lying on the ground.
“Tonpa! What’s wrong?”
He groaned and lifted himself up slowly. “Oh, it’s you. Hurry, they need your help!”
“What happened back there?” Kurapika asked, glancing between Tonpa and the hallway he pointed to.
“It was a trap. Worst I’ve seen. Hurry!”
(Name) turned and ran towards where Tonpa had been pointing, the two following behind her.
The three continued to run until they came across Nicholas, one of the applicants.
“Nicholas! What’s wrong?”
The boy slowly moved so he was on his hands and knees, looking back at them with a delirious expression. Kurapika subconsciously pushed (Name) behind him.
The man began to walk away while laughing to himself. Kurapika watched him for a minute before speaking.
“Let’s go, we have to find Leorio.”
Gon and (Name) nodded. “Yeah.”
——————
“Leorio, can you hear me? Leorio!!!”
Gon continued to call out Leorio’s name as they ran, (Name) noticing Kurapika beginning to slow down.
“Kurapika?”
She stopped next to him, Gon circling back when he noticed they were no longer running. “What’s wrong?”
Kurapika eyes became hazy, the blonde holding up his weapons to defend himself. “The Phantom Troupe…”
His breath came out in short pants as his eyes began to turn a deep shade of scarlet.
“Oh no…please, don’t do it…”
He collapsed onto the ground, (Name) quick to kneel by his side. “Kurapika, what’s going on? Are you alright?”
“Can you hear me?” Gon asked, concern lacing his voice.
Kurapika stared at the ground as sweat beaded down his forehead.
He fell, lying against the ground. “Make… them stop… please…”
He stared off into the distance, unable to move. (Name) wasn’t sure what to do, so she rubbed soothing circles into his back. “Kurapika, no one’s here. It’s just us.”
He didn’t relax though. His eyes remained that same scarlet color. “We have to get going. I’ll carry him.”
(Name) hoisted Kurapika up and over her shoulder. Gon blinked. “Wow, you’re strong.”
She nodded, a small smile on her lips. “I grew up with two younger brothers who looooved piggy back rides.”
“Can I get one too? Later, I mean.”
(Name) laughed. “Sure, after we find Leorio.”
They continued, now slowed down because of Kurapika’s weight. She didn’t seem to have much trouble carrying him, only occasionally grunting and rearranging him on her shoulder.
“So, Gon, why do you want to be a Hunter?”
The young boy hummed, adjusting the line on his fishing pole. “Mmm, I’m not sure yet, but I want to find my dad. He’s a Hunter too.”
‘Find? Did his dad abandon him?’
(Name) nodded slowly. “I see.”
“What about you?”
The girl paused, her grip on Kurapika’s thigh tightening ever so slightly. “Well… I didn’t have many options.”
Gon tilted his head. “Really?”
“Yeah. I… just thought it would be fun to try out.”
She sighed. (Name) didn’t enjoy lying, especially to an honest boy like him, but the truth about the situation wasn’t something a child should know. Gon didn’t respond.
The hallway was quiet for a bit, until Kurapika grunted loudly. (Name) turned her head a bit to see if he’d woken up, only for him to begin struggling against her and cry out.
“Kurapika! Are you alright?”
He wiggled out of her grasp, and just as she was about to lean over and help him back up, the white haired boy from before appeared, kicking the blonde in the face.
“Kurapika!”
She rushed over to his side, crouching down as he lifted his upper half onto his forearms to look up.
She helped him into a sitting position, the blonde leaning against her for support.
“Kurapika?”
Gon ran over, Killua standing in front of (Name) and Kurapika. The red had left his eyes, leaving them the pretty brown color she had noticed when she first met him.
“Oh good, you’re finally back to normal!” Gon said, smiling.
“But, uh…”
Killua watched Kurapika and (Name) with his blue eyes. “There is no healing cedar tree.”
“Huh!?”
“The sap comes from the tree of hallucination, it’s been used by assassins for a long time. It’s victims re-experience the worst events of their lives, and it eventually drives them insane.”
Kurapika blinked slowly, realizing he’d been leaning against (Name). He pulled back, the girl reaching out to make sure he didn’t fall.
“How do you know that?” Gon asked.
“So that means Tonpa must of…”
Killua nodded at the blonde. “Yeah, that’s right, he set you guys up.”
Kurapika growled in anger, gripping onto (Name)’s sleeve.
“We should go.”
“Sure, I think I know a way we can save the old guy you were with, and catch up with the group again with a single move.”
(Name) helped Kurapika stand, the blonde grateful for her help. She’d only known him for an hour but was risking failing the exam to make sure him and Leorio were okay.
“A games no fun unless there’s some risks.”
“I’m glad we met up again! Are you going to tell me your name?”
The boy smiled at Gon. “It’s Killua.”
———————
“Okay Killua, tell us your idea.”
He pulled out a small object from his pocket. “It’s a bomb, small but effective.”
(Name) pulled Gon back by his shoulders a bit by instinct. He didn’t react, only glancing at her hands before responding.
“That’s a bomb?”
“Let’s blow up this wall and all the disgusting sap covering it.”
He placed the bombs all over the wall, (Name) stepping a few feet back. Kurapika watched as she carefully maneuvered Gon to a safe distance, the dark haired boy not seeming to mind at all.
The explosion began, the four leaping through the opening created by the bomb to grab Leorio.
They all fell onto the ground, (Name) being caught before she face planted by Kurapika. He pulled her up slightly before letting go.
“It worked! Not the easiest way to travel but it is fast! I guess there’s no turning back now.”
Kurapika blinked as (Name) knelt next to Leorio. “You alright?”
“Gon? (Name)? Kurapika? … Pietro?”
She patted his back gently. “It’s just us, Leorio.”
“You were hallucinating as a result of inhaling the sap. Tonpa fooled us all.”
Leorio gave (Name) a smile, accepting her hand when she offered to pull him to her feet.
“So that’s what that was. Guess I owe you guys one for saving my butt. But how did you manage to avoid it?”
Kurapika shook his head. “It was a close call for me.”
“(Name) and I were fine!”
“I guess it wouldn’t work on Gon cuz he’s still a kid, so he doesn’t have any problems yet.”
‘But why wouldn’t it work for (Name)?’
Leorio and Kurapika glanced at the girl, who was pulling out a bandaid to place on Gon’s knee. The two seemed to already be friendly with each other, laughing when Gon nearly tripped again.
“Hey old man, we don’t have time to sit around chatting.”
“OLD MAN!? What are you-“
“His names Killua!”
“Ready for the next round?”
Killua threw more bombs past Leorio’s head. “What was that, I heard a click.”
(Name) covered Gon and Killua with her cardigan, then shielded her ears.
“THEY’RE BOMBS!?”
The group of five jumped through the hole the bombs left, Gon handing (Name) her cardigan after they landed. “Thanks (Name)!”
Killua watched her with narrow eyes. ‘What does she get out of protecting us with that flimsy cardigan? What is she after..?’
A plume of smoke dispersed through the hallway, the sound of the other applicants coughing echoing on the walls.
“What exactly is going on here?” Satotz asked.
“Oh, uh, I’m sorry, but we had to break through the walls.” Gon said apologetically.
“I never said you couldn’t destroy the walls, but tell me, how is it that you survived after wondering through the tunnels of hallucinations? I’m quite impressed.”
(Name) pulled some debris from her hair, sighing. Leorio spotted Tonpa and rushed forward, grabbing him by the collar. “How dare you! I have a score to settle with you!”
“Stop, Leorio!”
(Name) pulled out a piece of hard candy and began to suck on it as her new comrades argued. Killua watched her do this and crouched down next to her.
“You got candy?”
She tilted her head then smiled. “Yes, would you like a piece?”
She offered him a piece of butterscotch candy, which he took. ‘… maybe she’s not so bad after all. I’ll still keep my distance but…’
He didn’t sense any malicious intent from her, just… something. Something that honestly unnerved him a little.
——————
(Name) and Kurapika kept pace with each other, eventually reaching Leorio who had taken off his shirt.
“I see, so you were lying to us before.”
“Didn’t lie! My objective has always been to make a lot of money! And whatever happened in the past, happened in the past! I have no interest in doing anything that won’t make me any money!”
Kurapika sighed. “I wish you luck.”
“I don’t need luck, I’m going to become a hunter or die trying!”
“No, a doctor.”
(Name) giggled next to them.
“Could you please not look at me like that, Kurapika? It makes me a little nervous. Now come on, let’s go!”
The blonde smiled. “You alright now, Leorio?”
“Yeah I’m fine, check it out! I don’t care how stupid I look! I’d keep running even if I was naked! Pretend you don’t know me if you want!”
(Name) gasped when Kurapika threw off his tabard and stuffed it into his bag. Kurapika glanced at her. “Maybe we should follow his example.”
She pulled off her cardigan and stuffed it into her backpack.
It didn’t take long for her to catch up to Leorio, who instantly noticed she was no longer covered by her thick cardigan.
“WOAH! You’ve got a nice figure. Plump and soft, just how I like th-“
Kurapika kicked the back of his legs, causing him to crumple before getting back up and running behind them.
“WHAT WAS THAT FOR!?”
The blonde shrugged. “Sorry, pervert senses were tingling.”
———————
They reached the outside, (Name) instantly unbuttoning her undershirt so she could fan herself. It was hot, and even with just her skirt and top she was sweating. “Yeesh, I’m burning up.”
She crouched down and fanned herself with her hand, ignoring what was going on. They seemed to be distracted by some kind of “impersonator”, but she didn’t care all that much.
The magician disposed of the impersonator and they began to run again.
‘Ah, maybe I should have listened a little…’ she thought, watching as the people around her began to be attacked by mysterious beasts.
She glanced around to see she’d already lost her group, sighing to herself.
“You lost, little girl?”
(Name) blinked before turning her head to the left to see Hisoka leaning against a tree. He smiled at her, holding a card in his hand.
“Dunno, maybe.”
She shrugged nonchalantly, giving Hisoka a bored look. “Hmm…”
Hisoka stepped forward, looking her over. “Not bad… you certainly have some potential.”
She raised an eyebrow. “Potential? What do you mean by that?”
The magician tossed a card in her direction, the girl not even flinching when it sliced her cheek. She continued to stare at him, the look in her eyes making him shiver.
It was the look of someone prepared to die.
“I see… so that’s why you’ve peaked my interest…”
He pointed behind him. “You pass. If you continue that way, you’ll catch up to the group in no time.”
He began to walk in the opposite direction, quickly passing her by.
“Wait, if that way is the right direction, then why are you going that way?”
He only chuckled. “I have some… business to take care of.”
She sighed and took out her dagger. “Whatever.”
She continued running in the direction he pointed to, the man barely restraining himself from letting out a moan.
“God, I can’t wait until she’s ready to fight.”
He chuckled to himself before continuing on his run.
“(Name)!”
Gon yelled out, nearly crashing into the girl. She paused, catching him in her arms. “Gon, you’re okay!”
She squeezed him lightly before noticing Kurapika as well. “(Name)…”
He stopped for a moment to catch his breath. “Your cheek…”
She blinked before swiping at her cheek with her sleeve. “Oh, this? You can thank Hisoka for it. He attacked me, then said I passed and pointed to where I could find the group. Still haven’t found them, though.”
Kurapika gripped his weapons tightly. “He’d even hurt a woman? That sick bastard…”
(Name) sighed. “It doesn’t hurt that much, and once we get to the sight of the second phase I’ll put a bandaid on it. I guess I’m just lucky to have survived this long, considering I’ve been alone these past thirty minutes.”
She offered the two a drink from her canteen, which they took. After that they continued, Kurapika keeping a close eye on the girl.
Killua was waiting near the edge of the crowd, and was the first one to see the three arrive.
“Gon, (Name)!”
He smiled, putting his hands in his pockets.
(Name) bent over to catch her breath before rushing over to the still unconscious Leorio.
Hisoka had pointed him out seconds before, winking at the girl. Kurapika scowled when he noticed Hisoka watching her every movement.
‘That creep. I’ll need to stick by her so he doesn’t get any weird ideas.’
Leorio didn’t remember anything, but seemed happy to have (Name) taking care of his injuries. Kurapika pulled her back to gently wipe her cheek.
“Leorio can wait a second, you need to tend to yourself first.”
She looked to the ground, nodding. ‘But I don’t really care about my own injuries…’
Nonetheless, she cleaned the cut and applied a hello kitty bandaid before going back to Leorio.
Satotz left shortly after wishing them all luck. Killua watched her tend to Leorio before walking off and chatting with Gon.
“Alright, you should be okay. It’s going to take a while for the swelling in your cheek to go down, though.”
She helped pull him to his feet before pulling her backpack over her shoulders. “Thank you, beautiful. If I had you to tend to me, I’d get hurt all the time.”
Kurapika narrowed his eyes. “I think I’ll be taking care of your injuries after this.”
(Name) chuckled, poking Leorio’s good cheek. “Don’t get hurt on purpose, big guy.”
———————
“It’s almost time!” Gon said.
“I’m getting a little nervous.” Kurapika replied, holding onto his satchel tightly.
“I think you’ll do fine.” she patted his shoulder gently, a smile on her lips.
“Just about anything could be waiting for us behind those doors…”
The clock rang soon after Leorio finished his sentence. The doors to the building opened, a loud growling sound making (Name) jump and hide behind Kurapika and Leorio.
“Thanks for waiting. Buhara, how are you feeling now, hungry?”
A woman with greenish blue hair sat in front of a giant of a man, who’s stomach had been causing the loud noise.
“Yeah Menchi, I think anyone who has ears can hear that I’m starving!”
She smiled shyly at the group in front of her. “As you might have guessed, us two Gourmet Hunters are in charge of judging the Second Phase.”
“Gourmet Hunters?”
“What’s that?”
“Gourmet Hunters travel around the world collecting all sorts of exotic ingredients. They then use them to create new innovative dishes that have never been tasted. Before becoming Hunters, most of them were gourmet chefs.” Kurapika answered
‘Hmm, he’s smart.’ (Name) thought, watching the blonde.
“Hmm, so then this phase…”
“Right! So the subject for this phase, is cooking!”
“COOKING!?”
(Name) smiled. ‘This is actually something I can do!’
She listened to the two examiners, nodding along.
“Man, I’ve never cooked anything before in my life!” Leorio said with a sigh. (Name) was taken aback by this.
“Never? How are you still alive?”
Kurapika looked away from the girl. ‘I’ve never cooked either, but I’ll keep that to myself,’ he thought, not wanting to embarrass himself.
Gon smiled. “I know how to cook!”
The three turned towards the boy. “You serious? What can you make?” Leorio asked.
“I can make a lot of different stuff, but my specialty is macaroni and cheese!”
“Macaroni… and cheese?”
(Name) giggled. “Oh, Gon, that’s great for your age.”
“Well, I guess you could call that cooking.”
Kurapika gave the boy a smile as Leorio laughed. “Come on, it doesn’t take much of a chef to make a simple dish like macaroni and cheese.”
“Hey, that’s not true! Aunt Mito always said no one makes it like me!”
(Name) nodded along, patting his head.
“I’m sure she’s right. Maybe you can make it for me sometime.” Leorio said, snickering.
“Met too.” Kurapika agreed, seemingly amused by the innocent boy.
(Name) gave him a piece of candy, quickly grabbing a piece for Killua as well. “Here, I’ll want some of that macaroni and cheese as well. Is this payment good enough?”
She winked, the boy laughing. “Yes, this will do!”
“Listen up! My order is…”
(Name) quieted down, glancing back to the large man known as Buhara.
“A whole roasted pig! It’s my absolute favorite, and living in the forest is the great stamp! The most ferocious and delicious pig of them all!”
“The great stamp?” The entire group asked in unison.
The ground began to shake underneath them, a herd of pigs barreling towards them. Kurapika pulled (Name) out of the way just in time, the girl letting out a gasp as her skirt flew up from the gust of wind accompanying the stampede.
She was thankful she had worn a pair of shorts underneath, but other people weren’t.
“Aww, there’s shorts.”
(Name) and Kurapika turned to look at Leorio at the same time.
“Why do you sound so disappointed?”
Kurapika shook his head at (Name). “You don’t want to know what goes through that pervert’s mind.”
He ushered her away, glaring back at Leorio as he did.
They continued running away from the giant pigs, (Name) and Kurapika teaming up.
“It’s snout is tough, did you see how it launched all those grown men?”
Kurapika nodded. “Yes, but it should have some sort of weakness. Perhaps…”
From the corner of his eye, Kurapika watched Gon hit the stamp over the head, causing it to fall over dead.
“(Name), I have a plan, but you’re going to have to trust me.”
They hid behind a tree so he could explain. “You’re going to grab a thick tree branch, and I’m going to throw you onto the pigs back. Then, you’ll hit it over the head. We’ll repeat this twice.”
She seemed a bit uncomfortable with this plan, glancing to the pig sniffing around for them. “Oh um… are you sure you can pick me up?”
He tilted his head, looking her up and down. “Yeah, why wouldn’t I be able to?”
Too embarrassed to answer that, she agreed to the plan.
“Okay, on the count of three, we’ll rush out to attack.” Kurapika said, grabbing her hand. (Name) looked down, her face heating up ever so slightly.
“One!”
“Two!”
“THREE!”
They rushed out, causing the pig to run towards them. Kurapika grabbed (Name) by the waist and threw her into the air. “AHHH!”
She landed with a huff onto the pig’s back, groaning.
“You’ve got it, (Name)! Hit it now!”
She recovered quickly, bringing the stick down with as much force as she could manage. The pig collapsed, (Name) barely moving out of the way before she was crushed.
“You did it!”
Kurapika rushed over to help her up, smiling. The girl rubbed her bottom. “That landing hurt, I’m not excited to do that again.”
He gave her a sympathetic smile. “Sorry, it’s just the safest way to do it.”
The two repeated the action, Kurapika helping her off the second time.
“Owie…”
Kurapika could only gently pat her shoulder. “You alright?”
She nodded slowly. “As alright as I can be, after being thrown in the air and landing on a pig.”
Kurapika laughed at this, the girl joining him.
————————
Buhara ended up passing everyone that entered a roasted pig.
Menchi scolded him for passing everyone, but (Name) wasn’t listening. She was busy staring at Kurapika’s hand, that was placed on her shoulder.
“I’m not an armrest, ya know.”
Kurapika pulled his hand back, cheeks going pink. “Oh, sorry! I meant to say thank you for your help, but I got distracted by Buhara and Menchi.”
She giggled. “Well thank you for coming up with the plan. Now we’ve both passed half of the second phase!”
He relaxed, returning her smile.
“For the next part of this phase you’ll be filling my order, which is… sushi.”
Leorio tilted his head. “Sushi?”
“Sushi? Wonder what that is…” killua thought aloud.
“Any ideas?” Kurapika asked (Name), turning to her. She shook her head.
“No, unfortunately I’ve never heard of that dish before.” The two sighed.
“You guys look pretty stressed out! But I don’t blame you for not knowing what it is. Sushi is an ethnic dish from a small island country. I’ll give you a little hint. Inside you’ll find your work stations!”
(Name) tilted her head. “Work station?”
The applicants walked inside, seeing various kitchen work stations.
“Here’s where you’ll prepare the dish. Each station has all the essential tools and ingredients. I’ve even prepared the rice for you, which is necessary to make sushi. And now for one final hint! I’m particularly fond of hand molded nigiri sushi!”
(Name) stood at her station, between Kurapika and Leorio.
“Alright then, you guys can get started! This test will conclude as soon as I’m full. Until then you can serve me as many pieces as you want.”
(Name) watched Leorio stare at the barrel of rice. “Hmm… hand molded? That should give me some sort of indication of what it’s supposed to look like. But that still doesn’t tell me what other things I need to use.”
Kurapika hummed. “Nigiri sushi… I’m not sure exactly how this food is supposed to be made, but I think I’ve read about it somewhere.”
“Really?”
“Let’s see, if I recall, it’s made mostly of rice, mixed with vinegar and some type of raw fish.”
“RAW FISH!?”
(Name) jumped at the sound of his voice, Kurapika’s eyebrow twitching in annoyance.
“We’re stuck out here in the middle of a forest!”
Kurapika threw his spoon at Leorio, hitting his forehead.
“Would you be quiet? There are rivers in forests you know and we could fish in them!”
“Hmph.”
The two looked around, seeing all the other applicants staring at them. Menacingly.
They raced out of the building, leaving the three alone. (Name) set her bag down and began running after them, Kurapika and Leorio following her lead.
“It’s no fair! They were eavesdropping!”
Kurapika sighed. “It’s not their fault, I was the one who shot my mouth off.”
“This sucks! Now everyone knows what’s in it!”
(Name) patted Kurapika on the shoulder. “I’m sure they would have figured it out anyways. Considering we were about to leave and return with fish.”
He gave her a small smile. “Thanks.”
———————
The three returned with fish of varying types. (Name) traded Gon a few pieces of candy in exchange for a few fish.
“Well, all that’s left is to cook. Good luck boys!”
She gave them both a reassuring pat on the back before beginning her cooking process.
(Name) thought back to what Menchi had said, along with Kurapika’s limited information.
‘Does that mean the fish is supposed to be molded into the rice? Or the rice covers it?’
She tilted her head as she began to clean the fish. ‘Well, I assume I’ll at least need to cut it into fillets. After all, no one is dumb enough to serve her a whole, raw fish, right?”
Wrong.
(Name) watched with an incredulous expression as Leorio served Menchi an entire fish, still flipping around, halfway covered in rice.
Of course, Menchi rightly knocked the plate away. Leorio sulked back to his station.
“She didn’t like it…”
(Name) raised an eyebrow, but stayed quiet. ‘So he wasn’t kidding when he said he’s never cooked before…’
“What are you making?”
(Name) looked up to see Kurapika peeking over her shoulder. “Hey, no peeking!”
She bumped him with her hip, scolding him. “No cheating off of me!”
He pouted. “I wasn’t trying to… I was just curious.”
“Well be curious in that direction.”
“No, because you’re pointing at Leorio.”
“HEY!”
(Name) giggled to herself as she finished her dish, beaming. “I’m done!”
She carried her plate to Menchi, setting it down in front of her. “Here’s my entry!”
Menchi hummed, seemingly interested from the smell alone.
“It’s sushi! I um… think!”
Menchi looked down at the dish. It definitely wasn’t sushi, but the girl had obviously tried, and if Menchi appreciated anything, it was effort.
The blue haired woman took a bite. “Hmm… too salty, but good try. It’s not quite sushi, but it tastes good. Go back and try again.”
(Name) blinked, then nodded. She felt dejected, she’d tried her hardest!
She walked back to her station, grabbing her bag. “(Name), what are you doing?”
“I give up.”
The two stared at her. “You give up? Why??”
“I’m a failure, I couldn’t make sushi.”
“(Name).”
Kurapika patted her head. “Don’t be so hard on yourself. Your dish is the only one Menchi has even taken a bite of so far. Why don’t you try again?”
(Name) pouted. “… I’m going to go sit by the river.”
The two watched her walk away, her head hung low.
“Drama queen.” Leorio said, before getting back to his work.
“Well…” Kurapika stared in her direction for a moment. “She’s certainly… dramatic.”
But the blonde couldn’t help following her with his eyes, his eyebrows furrowing.
“Hey Kurapika, come try this! (Name) had some leftovers!”
Kurapika sighed. “You shouldn’t just eat the food she prepared…”
But he did join Leorio, taking a bite. “Oh wow, it is really good.”
The two snacked on her leftover food before getting back to work.
(Name)’s eyebrow twitched when she noticed Hisoka already sitting by the river. ‘Fuck it. Yolo.’
(Name) sat down a few feet away from him, tossing rocks into the water. She wasn’t even attempting to skip them, just throwing them into the river.
“… (Name).”
She hesitantly looked at him, raising an eyebrow. “What?”
“What are you doing here?”
She huffed. “Sulking.”
“Hmm.”
(Name) went back to her rock throwing, Hisoka now watching her. “Gave up that easily, huh?”
She paused. “As if you didn’t as well?”
He smirked. “Touché.”
The two sat in silence for a bit, before (Name) heard someone running up behind her. “(Name)- oh.”
The person paused a good distance away from her. “Can you come here? Away from…”
Hisoka raised his hand. “I’m not going to hurt her. We were just… talking.”
‘Oh now people are going to think I’m friendly with the murder clown.’
(Name) stood up, and stuck out her tongue at Hisoka for good measure. ‘There, now people will think I hate him! Orrr that I have a death wish. Which isn’t exactly wrong but-‘
“(Name), we know what sushi is now!”
It was Kurapika, and he was smiling at her. “Come on, now we’ve got a real chance to pass!”
Her pulled her back to the building by her hand, smiling widely. She couldn’t help but smile too.
‘He thought of me.’
———————
Though they all tried their hardest, even after figuring out how to make sushi, none of them could satisfy Menchi.
She poured herself a cup of green tea, sipping slowly. “Ah..”
(Name) had just given her the last piece of sushi, and had been rejected yet again.
“Sorry, but I’m completely stuffed!”
Hanzo blinked. “So then, what happens now?”
“Like I said, the test is over and this time no one passed. Thank you, come again.”
The air grew tense, (Name) too busy pouting to really care. ‘But I tried so hard…’
She only looked up when Gon stole Menchi’s phone.
“Oh dear.”
She turned her head when she heard someone destroy one of the cooking stations. ‘Sore loser.’ (Name) thought, munching on piece of candy.
“Alright, I’ll show you what it means to be a Gourmet Hunter.”
Menchi left, saying she’d be back in about an hour. (Name) took this as an opportunity to chat with Buhara.
“Sorry that people are being disrespectful. I’m actually a chef myself, but not on any level close to you two.”
Buhara seemed a bit surprised by her comment. “Ah, that makes sense. Menchi seemed to enjoy your dishes the best. If she hadn’t been so picky today, I’m sure she would have passed you.”
(Name) nodded. “Yeah, but that’s not how things went.”
She sat down next to him, taking out a piece of candy and handing it to the man. “Here, I know after I’ve eaten a savory meal I like to have something a little sweet to balance it out.”
‘This girl…’
He took the candy. ‘I’m starting to understand Menchi’s interest in her.’
(Name) and Buhara chatted, exchanging recipes and laughing over stories about cooking gone wrong.
“Is she becoming friends with the examiner?”
Kurapika watched her, eyes wide. Leorio cheered. “Yeah, butter him up (Name)! Use your womanly charm and get us a passing grade!”
Kurapika smacked him over the head. “First of all, she’s not doing that. Secondly, if she was, you screaming out her plans would foil them.”
“Oh.”
Menchi returned, momentarily glancing at (Name) and Buhara with a raised eyebrow before showing off her finds.
(Name) watched as the brute from before kicked the table Menchi had served the plate on over, nearly hitting (Name) in the face.
To her surprise, Buhara extended a hand to shield her. “Oh, thank you!”
He gave her a nod. “No problem.”
A few applicants attempted to get near Machi, but Buhara hit them with surprising strength. “Ooo get ‘em!!” (Name) called, cheering him on.
The wrestler Todo ended up pushing Buhara over, but the man seemed unfazed. “Ooo, you’re pretty strong. Guess it’s time to get serious. Think you can handle it?”
Menchi stepped in. “I can take care of him by myself.”
(Name) stared wide eyed as Menchi beat the absolute SHIT out of Todo, only using her legs.
‘That’s kind of hot.’ (Name) thought.
Kurapika pulled (Name) to safety. “Come here, it’s not safe over there.”
“Oh.”
She hadn’t realized, but it had become kind of a fighting zone. Kurapika noticed she kept staring at Menchi, but didn’t think much. Her and Satotz were arguing, (Name) only catching the end of it.
“I was trying to see how resourceful these guys were. Could they face a challenge for which they had little or no experience?”
“That may be true, Menchi, but since no one passed that test, don’t you think it may have been a bit too difficult?”
‘Oh god the sky is talking.’
“It’s an airship with the Hunter Association’s logo!”
‘Oh. That makes more sense.’ (Name) thought, being pulled outside by Kurapika.
“Oh shit an old guy!” (Name) gasped, pointing at an old man falling from the sky. “I was not expecting to see an old man die today.”
The man landed, seemingly unfazed. ‘Oh so he’s some sort of wizard. Wait did she say chairman?’
Killua and Gon seemed surprised he hadn’t broken his legs. “I’m surprised he isn’t a chairman pancake.” (Name) said, patting Gon on the head.
Apparently, he was the highest authority in the Hunter Association.
(Name) stood near Menchi, glancing at her at her as Netero talked. ‘She’s cute.’
“I have an idea. We’re going to give them all a second chance at the test, and I would like for you to continue being the examiner for this. But this time around I want you to demonstrate how it’s done before the applicants make an attempt. Does that sound reasonable? I think this will go a long way for everyone to accept your ruling.”
The group of five were relieved that they would be getting a second chance.
“The test is, a boiled egg.”
———————
The group rode on the airship to a large mountain.
“So, this is the spot.” Menchi said, standing before a cliff.
“What is this place?”
“How deep is it, I can’t see the bottom?”
Menchi smiled. “Not to worry, at the bottom is a deep river. Now, watch and learn boys.”
She fell backwards down the cliff.
“This deep ravine happens to be home of the spider eagle. And she’s gone down to retrieve one of its eggs.” Netero informed the group. (Name) peeked over the cliff.
“Wow!”
Menchi climbed back up with ease, pulling the egg from her bra. “You might want to be a little careful, the river runs very fast so if you fall you’ll be whisked out to sea before you know what hit ya!”
(Name) handed her bag to Buhara. “Could you watch this for me, please?”
He nodded, the group gasping when she rushed forward and jumped. “(Name)!”
They all followed after her, (Name) holding onto one of the strings and swinging up to stand on one. “Whew, I’m awful at the balancing act!”
Kurapika stared at her, blinking. “(Name), please be careful.”
She blinked. “Oh, sorry. I’ll try.”
Killua glanced at her from his spot, already finding an egg. ‘She should be alright…’ he thought, before going back to his task.
The boy furrowed his eyebrows. ‘Why am I concerned for her safety? She’s just some woman…’
Eagles began attacking the contestants, (Name) managing to climb up to Kurapika. The boy held onto her, keeping her steady. “Did you get an egg?”
(Name) nodded, pointing to her chest. “I’m following Menchi’s example!”
The blonde blushed, quickly changing the subject. “… let’s climb up before the eagles come back.
———————
Menchi had them drop all of their eggs into a large pot. “Don’t think the test is over yet! You still have to boil them. Over cooking or under cooking will fail you!”
Buhara began to sweat, staring at the pot. (Name) placed a hand on his arm. “You alright, Buhara?”
“I think he knows something we don’t!”
The group began pulling their eggs out, (Name) patting his arm after. Menchi seemed pissed. “You couldn’t have made it anymore obvious!”
Menchi glanced at (Name) yet again, calming slightly. “This is an ordinary chicken egg, and this is a spider eagle egg. Now go ahead and compare how they taste!”
(Name) glanced at Menchi, before halving her egg and handing it to her. “Here!”
The woman blushed, taking it. “Oh, um… thank you, applicant 406.”
“My name is (Name).” She said with a sweet smile.
“Thank you, (Name).”
The women smiled, eating together. “Menchi, this is delicious! Wow, gourmet hunters sure know their stuff!”
The woman seemed to become flustered from (Name)’s praise. “I appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. Buhara told me how kind you were to him earlier. I…”
She shook her head, turning her attention to the group. “Listen up, for the second phase, 43 pass! Menchi’s Menu is over!”
The all cheered, (Name) pulling in her four friends in for a hug. “Hehe!”
The group boarded the airship, on their way to the next phase.

I AM BARKING AND MEOWING FOR THIS MAN. like the dialogue is so natural and i can perfectly visualize it in my head. i’ve literally spent all of the last three days reading and rereading your fics like holy balls they’re so good. u are an amazing author thank u for ur service (also as an enby i really appreciate that you write gender neutral readers :D) OKAY THAnK YOU HAVE A NICE DAY
THREE DAYS ... WHEEZES ... omggg thank you for dedicating so much time to reading my chrollo stories!!! especially since you haven't watched/read hxh?? i hope you'll consider giving it a shot at some point 👀 it is my all time favorite anime and i swear by it. chrollo is such an interesting character, if you like his vibe in my fics, you'll enjoy him even more in canon!! he's got this enigmatic thing going on that just draws in your attention. although this could be said for almost the entire cast of characters in hxh... they're all so amazing that it blows my mind.
thank you again!!! and Ah,, i always feel very worried about how i write gender-neutral readers since i’ve seen some discussion around it not always being done the best. i’d honestly really appreciate it if anyone had like. some resources they want to share about how to do it better/some common pitfalls to avoid. i’m able to remain cognizant of avoiding things that’d allude to reader’s body type/race, but when it comes to doing gender-neutral readers well, i’m sure there are some blind spots i’m not aware of... so please hmu if there’s any advice on this floating around out there. i’d greatly appreciate it.
Tumblr media
THANK YOU PRECIOUS ANON 💖💖 this is actually a pretty accurate assessment of chrollo. the guy is chill while simultaneously having no chill, if that makes sense. a paradox of sorts. ice cream would do him some good.
Tumblr media
I’LL START YELLING TOO  !!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH <3
‘slimy yet pretty’ i love this description of chrollo omg. it’s so true. i’m so happy to see you guys enjoying my chrollo you have no idea ... writing for him is such a joy, i’m glad you guys are having fun reading his stories!! i’m not sure how to describe it well, but there’s this different Vibe from dark content stories that take place in modern times. i love writing for genshin, but i use so much modern lingo that i sometimes want to scream when i remember those idioms haven’t been invented yet. it’s okay though. that’s what my hxh writing is for.
genshin has me looking stuff up like “how do ink and quills work”. y’know. just to make sure i don’t miss any details.

I dunno if you saw the lates Heroaca chapter, but yikes, it just keeps going downhill - from the previously assumed banality of evil explanation of AFO being some spoiled manchild that got a power and lived out a childish fantasy, now he literally cralwed out as a baby evil, biting his moms corpse and magically surviving, only to terorize the world - like this should have been his fake "edgy villian" backstory, a myth - the whole "we just read comics" thing doesnt work when they were born into a post apocalyptic while AFO was the literal antichrist.
Like maybe I'm missing something and being to harsh, but AFO just being some rich kid who was spoiled and got everything he wanted and lived in a fantasy world, maybe only caring for his brother, who then felt betrayed, because his immaturity didnt let him realise that becoming a tyrant didnt jive with his little brother, which lead AFO to being even more petty in his delusions.
Idk, just sometimes to me I feel kinda sad for Hori, like he is aping things without really getting it, like the whole backstory seemed like an attempt to mimic HxH (which even I kinda would critisice for the recen Phantom Tropes backstory reveal, but that is a seperate topic and even that was compelling and interesting in the first half)
I had something I was going to share somewhere about why I don’t like Chapter 407 of My Hero Academia, I was just waiting until the actual release.
But let’s get this addressed now. I apologize, as I don’t think my points below are going to be as clear as I want them to be, and there is a lot of rambling.
I am ignorant to a lot of Hunter x Hunter and the recent Phantom Troupe reveal, so I can’t speak to that, and I haven’t looked up more information to respond to that detail right now.
I think Horikoshi had no good options, because he’s writing about comic book supervillains in relation to fascism, so either he was going to over-simplify the various ways comic book antagonists are written, or he was going to fail to address real-world concerns about fascism. I don’t think he had good options. Either All For One came into existence because society let, or All For One was born evil.
As I’ll touch upon slightly below, I can appreciate arguments that say Chapter 407 says the answer is both: yes, All For One exited the womb with an awful disposition, but if he had not been born at the advent of Quirks where vigilantes were trying to enact genocide against those with Quirks he would not have stooped to such depraved actions in the future.
I can’t help but feel offended: the chapter acts as if someone has an innate nature to act like this, and the chapter acts as if All For One’s past actions were justified and he should have just stopped at some point and that is when he went over the line.
I don’t know whether I can do a decent job suggesting an alternative way to write this story, and Horikoshi isn’t done so I should keep an open mind, but I think Chapter 407’s failing for All For One is in relation to a failure to more adequately write Yoichi as a character with more agency in this story. You want to show me that what All For One is doing was justified to protect himself? Then show me what Yoichi was doing, or show how he is complicit in accepting his brother’s help even when it is out of bounds, or do a better job addressing how All For One’s brutality got worse and worse, because starting his story with him just impaling people seems like it is supposed to show he was destined to be evil, but you’re showing his action as justified because those people intended to kill him.
(See also why the trailer for Marvel’s Echo didn’t work for me. “That guy sure was an asshole to her for using sign language!” And yet Kingpin is not justified in disabling or even murdering the asshole--cool motive, still evil.)
But I’m rambling--and will keep rambling in this response, so, please be patient with me.
As I said, I think it would have made Yoichi more compelling if we saw his culpability in all of this. And maybe we will. But for now, as people online have said, we’re just getting Yoichi and All For One as the typical binary in almost biblical stories: Abel and Cain, the Christ and the Anti-Christ, even Moses and the Pharaoh.
And it’s boring.
I’d rather have Yoichi not exactly agreeing with his brother but still in some way complicit. Think Avatar: The Last Airbender and subsequent works that don’t portray Roku in the best light: it was his home nation engaging in brutal warfare; he was too hands-off whether in diplomacy or warfare to stop it. Maybe we will get that with Yoichi, or maybe I’m overlooking his prior words to Izuku and not appreciating that he already expressed regret at not doing more to stop his brother. But I think that is missing in this chapter: we had Yoichi kick the can at All For One and tell him to stop, but we haven’t gotten more of his later years to hear him verbalize his opposition to what All For One is doing.
Yoichi doesn’t have to be out there opposing him like a superhero against this supervillain, and I don’t want him to be a willing or unwilling participant in his brother’s empire. But I do want something that makes Yoichi feel more real. What if his brother was protecting him--and he didn’t know the extent of how unethical All For One went in that protection? What if Yoichi is still young and just not old enough to put into words that what All For One is doing is wrong? We got a bit of that in this newest chapter, where it comes across that Yoichi isn’t old enough to put into words that All For One should not be killing people. But this comes off as Yoichi is just innately good, rather than us seeing how he learns what is good.
I will debate “nature versus nurture” in a bit, and while I’m going to come down on the side of “nurture” being more influential on people than “nature,” I do get the point people make, that they see innate goodness in kids, who want things to be fair and just and with equity, before they learn that this world as it is right now is unfair, largely because people make it unfair for others, and that we can believe Yoichi since birth would have that mindset. The problem, however, is again that it’s boring. Show me how Yoichi gets to that ethical system, otherwise he is too passive a character to feel like he’s compelling or worthwhile to this story. And that could be the point, that the holders of One For All were too passive for too long, and that Yoichi’s greatest power was sitting and waiting, as it is his Quirk, to stockpile and not seek out.
(And I have a rant about how tiresome “the Quirk influences your personality” is as text rather than just thematic or symbolic in this story. We did not need to be told that Toga’s Quirk is what made her like she is: that limits her potential, and we are again limiting potential here with Yoichi and All For One, suggesting that both of them were destined to have these personalities because their Quirks said so--Yoichi’s Quirk is stockpiling, so he has to be passive and inactive, whereas All For One’s Quirk is about theft, so he has to be the bad guy. That is boring, it leaves no room for more complex personalities. I know I could keep going with this until we exhaust anything interesting in these characters because we nitpick too much: “Oh, so Bakugo has an explosive ability, and we had to give him an explosive personality? That’s boring!” I mean, yeah, Bakugo’s Quirk and personality as related to each other are a boring combination--that is a problem that is fair to address. I do wish the series gave us more people whose Quirks were not so connected to their personalities. I’m not sure I would even want Quirks that are ironic, such as someone who is timid and meek having a superpower that is shiny, eye-catching, or requiring them to be the center of attention to work most effectively. Honestly, just give me someone with an engaging personality--and a Quirk that has nothing to do with that personality, like a practical joker who has ice powers. Or be more clever than this: shy character with telepathic communication--so the irony is less that the powers are the opposite of the personality, and more that their power lets them address a seeming flaw, or allows them to express themselves in an unexpected way such that they are not great at verbalizing but when you can hear their thoughts they are super-eloquent or just clear. But this rant is taking too long, so let me get back to the topic.)
If you ask me whether someone is more likely influenced by nature or nurture, I’m going to likely say “nurture” every single time.
And yes, I can admit that there is some muddying of the distinction between “nature” and “nurture” that I am asking for with this new information about All For One, that it wasn’t just that he was evil from birth but that the circumstances in which he was living, the “nurture,” was still bad: bands of vigilantes trying to kill off people with Quirks would lead All For One down horrible roads.
But the problem is that, even if I want to read that as nurture, the chapter starts with All For One shown since birth being “greedy,” whether taking more nutrients in the womb or feasting on his dead mother’s breasts: the story is already saying All For One was destined for this, not that it was potential but just the thing itself, he wasn’t potentially evil, he was just evil since birth, and that is boring and I would hope unbelievable…although, given a lot of the evil we’ve had to see in a post-2016 world, yeah, sometimes you want to believe that there are people who were just evil since birth and that they were never going to be good people.
I’ll get to this later, but I wish that this story revealed some caregiver to All For One and Yoichi, just to explain how these babies survived so long immediately upon birth, but with a fringe benefit: it would muddy the distinction between whether All For One does what he does due to his nature or the nurture. Think Oliver Twist, think Bungo Stray Dogs: Chuuya at 15, think Arcane: here is a rogue taking care of this kid, and we see how much of that rogue’s demeanor and attitude about life, society, survival, laws, honesty, and ethics influence that next kid. Heck, think Trigun as well with regard to Rem and Knives.
The point is, give me a character whose conduct would have influenced All For One, for good or bad, either a caregiver who like him said life is unfair and you have to have the will to take what you need, but who meant that instruction in a matter of pragmatism that All For One later perverted into in a matter of fascism, or a caregiver who was just irredeemable and whose behavior was a model for the fascism All For One would later implement, thus that while All For One certainly had the potential in him since childhood to be this awful, he needed a model example to learn the most effective way to be a horrible person. All For One being inspired by the supervillains in comics is fine: it’s silly, but (and this is the one time I will use this excuse, given my rant against this approach below) comics are silly, this is a comic book, I can allow All For One being inspired by comics because it’s silly and it’s about the only good meta-commentary we got in this chapter. But give me an actual person existing in the actual world that showed him how to make it a reality.
I appreciate Horikoshi reducing a fascist like All For One to a mere comic book supervillain, because the fascists we are dealing with right now in our shitty post-2016 reality are just mere comic book supervillains--but the problem is, those gutless, immoral, no-good rotten sick pieces of shit fascists did not just learn from comics, they learned from putting those ideas into action to see how far people and society would let them get away with it. Show me who inspired All For One to put those ideas into action because I don’t believe he learned it just from comics or his own experiences. Who inspired All For One?
And yes, this is me basically writing fanfiction that introduces a new original character to populate this world, who has a close and intimate relationship with a canon character, trading quality character design and progression for the sake of shortcuts such as “they were All For One’s teacher, therefore I don’t need to do much work to actually define this character because they’ll be killed off soon enough.”
And yes, this opens up more problems, and pretty much ripping off Vash, Knives, and Rem from Trigun: killing off a teacher figure or a parental figure for All For One and maybe Yoichi is a shortcut to progressing characters where you need them to be, for All For One to realize the world is a disgusting place that he needs to rule, and for Yoichi to realize people are innately good and deserve agency and the freedom to live happy lives.
But damn it, it’s an effective choice, and one more compelling than, “All For One was always evil, we will not quibble over society’s responsibility in creating him, we will not give you an emotional investment in Yoichi to care about his worldview, we’ll just reduce everything down to comics.”
(Or, if it’s not some OC who raised All For One who inspired his fascism, make it clearer in this chapter who did. Was it already answered in this new chapter? Was it the Golden Baby? Chapter 407 brings him up, so actually show what they were doing as a revolutionary so we understand how All For One’s actions are a response, whether because All For One is imitating the Golden Baby or because All For One is doing the opposite. Will we get that detail in a later chapter, or are we rushing to the finale?)
And since I did bring up OCs, let’s get to the next point:
I’ve talked before about how grateful I am that I get to work with others who are interested in the idea of how to revise an existing story to clarify what it was going for or, in a far less clear way of putting it, “fix” what isn’t working.
All For One and his brother surviving after their birth is one such detail that needs a fix.
I know this is a comic book series where you are supposed to suspend disbelief as pertains to things that don’t make sense or are so fantastic that you need the “fiction” in “science fiction” to make sense of them, such as Hagakure’s powers, how Hawks’s feathers can support so much weight, and so on.
But there is a problem with “it’s just a comic book, suspend disbelief.”
First, My Hero Academia consistently goes out of its way to insist to the reader that this isn’t your typical comic book. This is a response to what works and doesn’t work in comics, akin to Watchmen. Heck, we just had a chapter with All Might imagining Nighteye chastising him, saying that a mentor having to die to motivate their student is like something out of a comic book, and what All Might is living through is not one of the comics he read, this is his real life. You can’t insist “this is a comic book, suspend disbelief,” and then insist at the same time that this isn’t a comic book, this is its own reality, make it believable and take it seriously. By that guideline, no, there is no way baby All For One and baby Yoichi would have survived on their own--there had to have been some caregiver or series of caregivers for them.
Second, at the same time My Hero Academia is asking us to suspend disbelief, the series then over-explains details in order to make this world feel believable. We have limitations on characters’ abilities so that the stakes are still high and the protagonists don’t just win because their Quirks are more powerful: Iida’s engines have a temperature limit, Todoroki can only go so hot or so cold, Ochaco can only lift so much weight that her equilibrium can handle. You can’t point to those limitations and insist that All For One and Yoichi survived that long as newborns without help--that doesn’t work.
Therefore, I have to be open to the idea that All For One and Yoichi were not entirely on their own since birth. There had to have been a caregiver, or series of caregivers, whether individual people who found them and took care of them--until All For One likely just killed them--or communities that they came upon where there were others like them--orphans, homeless people, people marginalized in this newly emerging superpower society…before, again, All For One probably just killed them, too.
