It's a new month, and as usual it's time to change the paintings exposed at the entrance of the college building. You take your painting off the wall before going into the art studio. You put it on the easel and prepare some white paint to start fresh before painting something new over it. When suddenly you hear the door open abruptly making you turn your head towards it. "Wait.. does this mean if I bring you a new canvas of the same size I can take it?"
"Sure... I guess"
"Okay I'll bring one tomorrow."
The man takes the painting off the easel and leave the room without even looking back. You stay dumbfounded trying to understand what just happened, what a strange man, why would someone want your painting that bad. You decide to just go home early, not knowing what to do with this change of plan.
The day after, you're in the art studio doing some sketching when you hear the door opening, this time way more gently than the last time. The same man from yesterday is entering with a brand new canvas.
"Hey! I brought it."
"Thank you, you can put it on the easel."
He does as you say before turning around to face you.
"By the way, my name is Sungchan, I'm sorry for yesterday I probably scared you, I didn't think you were the one who did the painting, they were no name on it like the others."
"It's okay don't worry, yeah I wanted to stay anonymous "
"I see..."
The mood becomes awkward, you don't know why he didn't left yet, he starts walking around the room, looking at each details, the decorations on the wall, all the drawings equipment, the few sketches you just did. After taking a good look at the room, he looks at you, being the only last thing he didn't glace at.
"You didn't tell me your name."
"Y/n."
"You know I really like your painting, I usually don't have any sensibility when it comes to art, so it's really precious for me."
"I appreciate that, thank you."
"Y/n, I have a request. Can I come here again to see you work?"
"...I mean, this studio is open to anyone, I can't really forbid you from coming... there is nothing interesting to see tho."
"I'm really interested by the creative process, and I'm curious to learn more about the person who did the painting."
"You're just going to be disappointed by both."
"I'm sure not."
Sungchan smiles and head himself to the door before waving you good bye and leaving the room.
Well of course, all compliments about your art warms your heart but, what you love about this studio is that barely anyone comes, you were often with yourself. Having trouble socializing, this was a room for you to get some peace. You start thinking that maybe, you should have just say "no" to him, but you didn't really had the time to think that much.
After that day, Sungchan came almost every afternoon. Asking you a lot of questions about your work, he seemed always very interested by your explanations, looking at everything you did. It sure was awkward for you at the beginning, but as the weeks passed, you became really comfortable around him, sometimes even teasing each other. You two became really close. At one point, you realised you had feelings for him, but you quickly pushed them aside, remembering you were only seeing him in the studio. Everytime you saw Sungchan left the room, it was like he was going to another world, and he suddenly felt so far away. He had his own group of friends, sometimes you saw him in the hallway with them, but you both took the habit of ignoring eachother, only talking in the studio. It didn't really bother you, thinking that he probably had his own reasons, and you didn't try to talk to him outside the studio either.
One time in the studio, Sungchan was here and as usual, he looked at you drawing, but this time that was different, normally he was looking at your hands, the movement you made or how you were holding the pencils and the brushes. But this time, he was straight up staring at your face. You were thinking about something to say, and before you could open your mouth:
"You know, you're even more captivating than your art."
You sigh, thinking that he was probably just teasing you. "What are you saying? Stop messing with me."
"Messing with you? I'm just saying what I'm thinking."
You look away and your hand stops. Silence fill the room. You know you probably should just thank him and move on, but something about what he said really made an impact on you. Sungchan puts his hand over yours, making you look at him. A beam of sunlight was going over his face, making his skin golden. His eyes, usually a deep brown, were now the color of amber, making him the most beautiful thing you've ever seen.
"Why did you stop drawing?"
His voice makes you regain consciousness, you feel your heart beating loudly in your chest, you put your eyes back in the paper thinking that if you saw him 1 more seconde, you wouldn't be able to stop the wave of feelings inside of you.

You quickly pack your stuff and leave the room without even saying goodbye, you think you heard sungchan say something but you are so overwhelmed, the only thing in your mind right now I how you want to go as far away from him as possible.

Almost a week passes and sungchan didn't came at all, you were thinking that he finally got tired of you, maybe now you were going to live your life like you did before meeting him, you let out a long sigh, when suddenly you see him push the door. He starts speaking to you like he always did and you feel so relieved you could almost cry, then after spending some time together he says,
"Do you wanna come to my place? I have something I want to show you."
"Unh? You want to see me outside the studio?"
"Yeah? Why wouldn't I?"
"Well you ignore me everytime we see eachother in the hallway. So I though-"
"It's not like that! Everytime we see each other i'm with friends, I know you're not comfortable talking to people so I thought it was better to talk to you when we are only together."

"Soooo, are you coming? It's really important."

Just a few steps in his apartment and you end up in front of the painting that he took when you first met him, exposed on the wall with nothing else around it that could distract you, a light over it illuminating the canvas. You can't help but smile wide seeing that, your art being exposed in his apartment like it was the most precious thing in the world. You never thought the day would come where you could see your work being treated with such care.
Sungchan sees you and jokes around, "Oh you like it? It's by my favorite artist."
You chuckle and follow him to the living room where he makes you sit on the couch. You can see him fidgeting in front of you.
"You want something to drink?"
"No thanks, i'm good."
"Are you hungry maybe?"
"I'm fine."
"Are you cold? Do you want me to turn on the heater?"
"Sungchan. Everything is perfect, show me the thing you wanted me to see."
"Sorry... I'm a little nervous.. it's here follow me."
Sungchan tilt his head and you follow him to a door. He looks hesitant for a second and push it. The room is filled with art stuff, some sheets on the ground to prevent paint from falling on the wooden floor. You see a stool in the corner of the room in front of an easel, with a canvas covered with a white sheet. Without a word, Sungchan gets closer to the easel and slowly removes the sheet. The feeling you got seeing this painting was indescribable, like it was suddenly the only thing on earth, your eyes got lost in it, every brush stroke looked intentional, meticulously placed. Sungchan's voice takes you out of your bubble.
"What do you think? I'm sorry for not coming to the studio the past few days, I've been coming home early to work on it."
"That's... amazing"
"No.. you are amazing, you were my inspiration for it."

Ignoring the fact that ibis had the ai paint feature a couple years before this whole ai fiasco, after seeing your post, I decided to try it out to see if it really held up. I already knew what you said made no sense, as even stuff like ai painting requires heavy human input that isn't just someone typing a prompt in a thing and looking through thousands of images and somehow still calling it 'art'. Really, it's just some weird advanced bucket.
The ibis ai paint... really sucks. I'm pretty sure it hasn't even been touched since it was added. No matter what I did, I got random colours and whatever colours I had put there looked like it were from a filter, not to mention how my lineart bled everywhere like it was blurred out.
Ibis isn't problematic for adding that feature as not only was it added ages ago, but it was also just a gimmick only added because a few more popular paid programs added them, like Clip Studio Paint. I highly doubt even the company took it seriously considering how poorly built it is. This is actually the one time I'm glad some feature in an app sucks so much.
Another reason why ibis isn't problematic by the mere feature alone is that, when you look at the artists making content during the time of that update, it was received with humour. It was something fun to try, but ultimately dismissed for actual artwork, as nobody would use it to fully paint their works. Nowadays we see something slapped with the words 'ai' and think that it's instantly bad due to the latest issues with it and big corperations/ certain production companies but it isn't. It's just a lot of people abusing what was previously some fun gimmick, which it can still be, and for certain apps, still is. Nobody throws pitchforks at character ai, after all.
You can tell just by the size of this that I'm procrastinating on something. Ima go and let this rot away in your askbox now lol

I wanna start off by saying thank you for holding me accountable, I will admit that I got buzzworded pretty hard in this situation lmao
This information came as a surprise to me-- I was seeing posts pop up within the past week complaining about the ai feature on ibis, so I assumed it was recent. As it turns out, after reading your ask, I discovered that I got a few wires crossed! Because yes, the auto paint feature I referred to in my post has been around for years now, and was never taken seriously anyways

So that was my bad (and yea ur right it's completely unusable, lmao)
But as it turns out, the feature that people have been complaining about DID come out recently. It was called the AI Example feature, I think the idea was that you make a simple drawing and the AI adds 99% of the detail and color, which I've seen a bunch of other programs do.
...and then it was immediately removed due to some pretty major backlash, which, duh

^ This is the only evidence I can find of the 11.2.0 update that included the AI feature on the actual site; their update history stops at 11.1.0. But there's also the news page about the removal of the update, so it's not like they're trying to pretend it never happened.

So tl;dr, I jumped on the hate train a little too quickly and never did enough research to figure out what the actual update was, and that it's been removed by now anyway (which I couldn't have known until today, ofc, but i did kinda post that thing about ibis today so it's still a pretty major oopsie)
I think I can say with confidence now that I agree, ibis paint isn't problematic to use-- they made a mistake with this update, but they actually listened to their users and removed it LITERALLY the next day. So, thanks for letting me know! I'll also edit my last post to prevent any misinformation, just in case people make the same mistake I did :]

I have a question about your prep for oil painting, or more like when ur practicing. Do you use a specially treated paper to practice with oils (studies, quick thumbnail sketches, etc) before using canvas or do you just sketch ideas, layout on canvas and then under paint? I enjoy the medium a lot but I actually want to sketch and do studies in oil (without much drawing involved) but don’t want to waste canvas. Also hate painting gesso over stuff repeatedly. Is paper something you have tried? Any advise would be appreciated o wise onion painter
Ok, so as for my personal habits, I tend to do "Practices" digitally [I have a tablet and SAI] or sometimes on paper like so: [garlic is pencil on paper, rest are digital]. I do draw thumbnails but they are usually in marker or pencil in my sketchbook, and are little more than like, very stylized symbols representing subjects or different compositional patterns. Most of my painting planning and composition happens via digital photo collages.

The rest of my very long answer is under the readmore
I'll do colour studies occasionally if I'm feeling particularly anxious about a picture, OR if it has a colour range that I am yet unfamiliar with. I have done a couple colour studies for my current big picture with the cattle, one I did on location so I could have an example of the colours present in the landscape to my eye, and another of a seascape because this cattle picture will be my first significant effort to include the blue colour range into my vocabulary, and also to spend some hours painting clouds to get a feel for them. [for context, when I began with my current method of painting I began only painting white objects against back fabric with a value range from chromatic black to titanium white and then added in new colour ranges one by one once I was fluent in all of the preceding colour ranges] When it comes to your practice [and I mean "Practice" as in everything you paint overall] I think you might find canvas panels very helpful, as they take up very little space BUT they are still rigid and therefore don't need to be taped to a board or anything. They also come in a really wide variety of sizes and are very affordable. If you enjoy using canvas paper then you should continue what you are doing, but try different kinds of surfaces. Some people prefer to do oil paintings on sheets of copper. There will be a material that suits your style and your personality, you just have to find out what it is. I like belgian linen, but others may prefer gesso'd particle board.
You have several points going on in your question, so I will address them individually:
Not wanting to "Waste Canvas" Canvas is not a precious commodity. It is a raw material which can be used in the process of painting, therefore, its value lies in the work hours and expertise of the craftsperson who uses it. One of the most common uses of canvas is in art training. So you are not "wasting canvas" by using it for the purpose of learning the skills necessary for painting: that is a perfectly acceptable use for canvas, and all other materials. I'm not "wasting" a pair of hiking boots by walking at the bottom of a mountain, I'm using them, and if I don't use the boots at the bottom of the mountain I will never get to use them at the top.
Putting Gesso over oil paintings Don't do this. Gesso is a water based paint so it dries much faster than the oil beneath it. If you want to paint over a painting you can either paint over it with a neutral oil colour, OR, just do the new painting over it without the middle stage. Some things to watch out for if you reuse canvas this way: Ridge lines [bits of textured paint from the previous painting sticking up through your new painting might take away from it], oil layers [remember the fat over lean rule when choosing a canvas to paint over. if you have high concentrations of oil, aka fat, on the canvas already, it might be better to choose a different canvas], dryness [try to only paint over pictures that have had a good amount of time to dry.] Basically all of these warnings are to prevent cracking and other conservator problems with your paintings. A good painting can happen to your canvas at any time and it would be a shame to paint something you really like and have it crack later from poor application.
"Without much drawing involved" Painting is "mass drawing" [shapes not lines] with colour, so you can't really avoid drawing if you want to paint. This doesn't mean you have to use pencil or other dry mediums if you don't want to though, painting a value study [mass drawing] with oil is a very popular technique which many employ. I'd recommend that you look into "imprimatura" and "grisaille", two methods of value painting used for oil.
In conclusion, I don't want to get all "just be yourself" in here, but i'd recommend you research the different techniques and materials available to you and pick the one that has the fewest barriers to your work flow, feels the best to work with, and creates the final product that you want to create. If you were me I would tell you to work on belgian linen stretched canvases and occasional cotton canvas panels, but you may prefer something different so that advice may not be helpful. Keep at it!

Blue Brownies and Finding Nemo
Summary:
“Do you think if I was captured in the sea and taken to Australia, my Dad would try to find me?”
She looks like how Percy imagined her that night in the train bunk, sad, lonely, completely unloved. Percy blurts the first thing he can think of.
“Well, that would never happen because I wouldn’t let you get lost.”
Percy and Annabeth have a blue food movie date at Percy and Sally's apartment. Set at the end of summer after The Lightning Thief.

“Honey, does Annabeth like brownies?” Sally calls from the kitchen. 
“It’s okay, Mom,” Percy reassures as he rounds the corner. Thick heat hangs in the kitchen from the August humidity, slapping his hands with a thick coat of sweat. “I’m sure between the blue popcorn, gummy sharks and gummy bears, Annabeth will eat something. You didn’t have to prepare so much.” 
“Oh, of course I did,” His mom drapes her arm over him as she tears open the brownie mix with her other hand. Percy closes his eyes, savoring the perfume and warmth he once thought he lost forever. “I don’t remember the last time you brought a friend over! And I’ve heard so much about Annabeth.” 
“It’s not a big deal or anything, Mom,” Percy lies as he draws out a mixing bowl from the cupboard. “We could have just gone to the movies ourselves.” 
“And miss out on the blue food extravaganza?” 
“Yeah, the AMC did stop serving Blue ICEES." 
"See? And what would a Finding Nemo party be without that? Oh," His mom's smile grows wider as she hears the door knock. "That must be her." 
Percy and his mom both stare down at each other, then sprint to the door at the same time. 
"Mom!" Percy protests. He knew Annabeth would love to meet his mom, but he was dreading all the embarrassing stories Sally joked she would tell. 
"Sorry," Sally teases as she swings open the door. "You know I had to beat you here. Hi Annabeth!" 
"Hi, Mrs. Jackson," A perfectly composed Annabeth greets. On her neck a sea-blue trident bead hangs low and in her hands lay a tray of blue brownies. If he didn't know any better, he would've thought meeting friends' parents was as smooth and natural to her as a knife cut to a monster's neck. Still, he caught the slight shake in Annabeth's voice, how she nervously brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. She’d tied her braids back into a low ponytail, like she was leading her Capture the Flag team to victory and needed to be prepared for anything. Percy always liked when she wore her hair like that. "I know you and Percy like blue food so I made these." 
"Well, Percy was right when he said you were always prepared," Sally takes the brownies from her and pulls an off-guard Annabeth into a hug. For a second, Annabeth squirms in his mom’s arms, unsure of how to move, but finally she settles in and hugs her back. "Come in, sit down, I'll bring everything out to you." 
"It's okay, mom," Percy was worried about his mom's energy level since she’d gone to the Underworld. Even though Smelly Gabe was gone and she'd enrolled in night classes at NYU, he saw how fatigued she’d been the past couple months, sagged slightly in the moments she thought he wasn't looking.  "I'll bring out the food." 
"Thank you, honey," Sally ruffles his hair as he walks by.
Percy’s hands tremble as he sorts the assortment of blue food in their special blue platter his mom had bought at the farmer’s market down the street, the hand-painted one with a mermaid on it. How was this going to go? The only time his mom had ever met one of his friends, he was kind of being chased by a minotaur and disappeared to the Underworld. What on earth was she going to talk to Annabeth now that they weren’t in a life or death crisis? 
“Oh, and look how cute he was, in his jammies,” When Percy comes back out to the living room with the food, Sally had drawn out his baby albums and was pointing to a photo of baby Percy in his high chair, smeared pears across his lips. 
“Mom,” Percy’s ears burn crimson red. “Can you please put that away?” “There’s no need to be embarrassed, Seaweed Brain,” Annabeth’s eyes glimmer mischievously. Oh gods. She would be using this as fodder for teasing him the next few summers. “Your pajamas don’t look that different now.” 
“Mom!” Percy’s cheeks light on fire. 
“Okay, sorry honey,” Sally shuts the album and touches Percy’s cheek tenderly. “You two enjoy. I’m just going to be in my room in case you want anymore brownies, just come get it.” 
As she floats into the next room, Sally leaves a warm trace of brownies and buttery popcorn and sugary candy behind her. Percy inhales it as Annabeth stares at his mom in a trance. Percy’s mom had that effect on people. 
“So,” Annabeth rubs her palms on her cargo pants as she chews on her lip, analyzing the snack options, then looking back up at Percy for a plan of attack. “You normally just eat all of this during your movie nights?” 
“Not always,” Percy scoops out a bowl of popcorn for her, knowing it’s the snack that she would like best. ”Sometimes we just buy blue snacks from the bodega, but one time we made an entire blue pizza together. It took a week to get the dye out of the kitchen, but you should have seen it, it was awesome.” 
“Cool,” Annabeth takes the popcorn from him and shifts in her seat uncomfortably.  Percy wanted to smack himself for being an idiot. She’d come up here now because she was going to take the train down to D.C. to live with her dad for the first time in six years. She’d never had a movie night with her parents, and she wasn’t sure if history would repeat itself or if they could in the future. He shouldn’t have been going on about how well he got along with his mom. 
“Anyway,” Percy turns on the TV and hovers over the Finding Nemo feature. Annabeth’s eyes flicker from the screen to the apartment door, like they did when she was distracted by something sad. Percy talks faster to get her to think about something else. “I figured we could watch a classic. You’ll love it. It’s got this talking turtle whos ‘totally tubular babyyy!’ ” 
Okay, maybe he immediately regretted his weird surfer dude British voice, but at least the voice did pull Annabeth out of her sadness. She raises her eyebrows her way to say you’re an idiot, Seaweed Brain , then grinned and looked down at the floor as she laughed, her eyes lit with sparkle where there was darkness a second ago. 
“You know, between this and the baby pictures, you’re just giving me things to make fun of you for next summer.”
“It’s okay,” Percy bobs his head, trying to ignore how full his chest felt with relief. For some reason, he hated seeing Annabeth upset more than most other people. “If you want, you can email me if you think of them sooner.”
“You want me to email you the insults I think of?” Annabeth repeats, shaking her head. “There isn’t enough time in the world for that.” 
“Okay, well at least send me a photo of the big sitting president statue,” Percy turns back to the TV and clicks on the movie.  
“You mean the Lincoln Memorial?” 
“Yeah. You’ve been talking about it at the last four sing-a-alongs. I want to know if you finally got to see it.” 
When he looks back, Percy swears Annabeth is trying not to break into a smile. It was getting harder to ignore how full his chest felt. He makes himself turn his eyes away from her as they start the movie, the ocean blue light pouring over her expressive eyes as she scans the screen. 
“This is computer animation, right?” She asks thirty seconds in. He quickly glances back to see her eyes and mind moving a million miles an hour, analyzing the kelp, the corral, and the schools of fish in blues, yellows, purples. He could never understand how swiftly Annabeth’s mind worked, but he liked watching the gears turn. That was what he admired about her so much, she was constantly in puzzle-solving mode. He, on the other hand, was constantly counting to make sure he had all the pieces to the puzzle.
“It’s like that game we played in June,” Annabeth’s voice drops to earnest fascination. “The detail looks particularly sophisticated. This probably took years to make, with animators and writers and marine biology researchers..” 
“They don’t need marine biologists,” Percy lays back on the couch, finally relaxed now that they had fallen back into their rhythm and got past the awkward part. He pointed to Marvin and Nemo’s swaying purple new home, “I can tell you right now that’s…”  
“A sea anemone,” Annabeth finishes a flabbergasted Percy’s sentence. “Actinaria. It’s the perfect home for clownfish because it ensnares predators with its tentacles.” 
“How’d you know that?” Percy fake-pouts, mildly insulted. “I’m supposed to be the one with the sea knowledge.” 
“Please you should have dealt with this by now,” Annabeth teases, with that prideful, know-it-all twinkle in her eye. “I’m smarter than you.” 
Percy grabs a few kernels of popcorn from her bowl and tosses it in Annabeth’s face. She smirks, picks it up from her lap, and throws it back at him. Percy playfully catches one of the kernels in his mouth and winks at Annabeth, who laughs at him for the third time that day. 
They continue to tease each other intermittently as Marvin’s journey to Australia begins, his full chest easing into calm and warm. He realizes throughout this is the only time he’s fully been at peace since he left camp a couple days ago, maybe ever since he and Annabeth started really becoming close. When Marvin and Dory cruise on Crush, Percy imitates them again and Annabeth rolls her eyes so hard they spill to the back of her head, but soon she joins in with her own surfer voice that’s far better than his. (“You have a gift,” He tells her as she sits up smugly.) 
As the blue of the ocean on the screen turns somber and quiet, Annabeth falls silent while Marvin laments the loss of his son. She fixes her eyes on the scene, sucking on her lip, not responding to Percy when he asks if she wants anymore brownies. Percy’s heart sinks as he watches her, disappointed and crestfallen as she did in the elevator at the Arch. 
“Hey, you okay?” Percy instinctively reaches out to touch her shoulder. “When you get quiet like this, it usually means you’re sad.” 
Annabeth looks back at him, her vulnerable eyes dark and full, and because it’s because they spent all summer together, or because she’s seeing her dad soon, but she doesn’t evade the question like usual. “Do you think if I was captured in the sea and taken to Australia, my Dad would try to find me?” 
She looks like how Percy imagined her that night in the train bunk, sad, lonely, completely unloved. Percy blurts the first thing he can think of. 
“Well, that would never happen because I wouldn’t let you get lost.” 
Annabeth cocks her head at him. Oh crap, he blushes. He shouldn’t have said that. 
“You wouldn’t let me get lost?” She repeats, like he’s implying that she had no directional sense. 
“I mean I know you can honestly navigate anywhere, even like, that crazy maze that changes in space in time.”
“You mean Daedulus’ labyrinth.” 
“Whatever,”  Percy backtracks, trying to think with her melting brown eyes concentrated on him. “I mean you can somehow follow my mind. But if you ever fell in the sea or got captured by a boat, I wouldn’t leave you in there. I would dive right there and fish you back out. Not just you, Grover too.”  
Annabeth’s smile lingers as she turns her attention back towards the movie. 
“Well it’s nice to know you use your sea power gifts for good use,” She grabs another gummy fish from the table. She’d eaten a lot of those, too. Percy had to make note of that for the next time they watched a movie together. “I wish I could say I could save you from an evil owl or something, but who knows how that would turn out.” 
Percy laughs and revels in another flood of relief. Annabeth had unclenched now, her cheeks and legs relaxed as she re-focuses on the screen. He studies her again as he watches the gears grinding in her mind, dissecting the movie at every new scene. He couldn’t believe he wouldn’t see her for a whole other year, except through emails and iris messages. 
“Hey,” Percy nudges her when Marvin and Nemo finally reunite. She turns back to him, like she knows he knows the right thing to say to her. “Your dad would save you. I know he would.” 
Annabeth beams at him for a moment, then quickly frowns, like she just smelled their downstairs neighbor’s bad lasagna downstairs. 
“Hey,” She turns her entire body towards him, as if to tell him something serious. Oh no. Did she smell the neighbor’s lasagna? “You know I don’t actually think I’m smarter than you, you know?” She asks frantically, searching every inch of Percy’s face for reassurance. 
Percy blinks, taken aback. He doesn’t know what he was expecting her to say, but it wasn’t that. 
“I know,” He says softly, because he does. ‘Don’t worry, I know.” 
Slowly, very slowly, they smile at each other, studying each other for maybe just a second too long. They turn back to finish the movie, and Percy thinks about how he knows, just like with Grover, but somehow a little different, that Annabeth is his friend for life.

I finally made it, Seaweed Brain. Now tape this to your locker and carry it around. 
He rereads the email once, twice, three times. It could be because he’s dyslexic, but he swears he rereads it at least 10 times in the next hour. 
Even though he knows she’s just teasing, he does print it out and carry it around with him.

Shaw: Did you forget about all the things you've collected from various small shops along the way? Shaw: A pile of odds and ends needs a box when you take it home. MC: Oh, right! But is the graffiti on it is the masterpiece of Mr. Shaw? Shaw: Obviously, that's correct. Shaw: But if you want to praise me, put it on hold for now. Shaw: Come over, grab a spray can, and let's finish it together.

MC: You left a spot for me? I'm coming~ Shaw: Of course, doing graffiti together is more fun. MC: Shaw, I think I have a rough idea of what the "thing" you hid during our trip is. MC: Based on my understanding of you and my extensive search efforts… MC: Firstly, it's probably not a physical object, right? Shaw: Seeing that you've analyzed it to this level, I'll make an exception and give you a hint. Shaw: Indeed, it's not a physical object. MC: Oh~ I think I have a good idea now. MC: Let me observe the rest!

MC: Wow, this vast sea of flowers is too beautiful and splendid! Shaw: Big producer, can you enrich your vocabulary a bit? Shaw: Everywhere we go is full of beauty, and I'm getting aesthetically tired from it. MC: Then you show me how it's done? Shaw: There's a barbecue restaurant ahead, and the food they grill is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Shaw: Pair that with spicy sauce, and I guarantee it'll make some people drool. MC: Very well, although what you said is ordinary, it still made my mouth water. Let's go!

In winter, the surroundings here are full of the lively atmosphere of spring. Bees dance among the flowers, and Shaw and I stroll through this floral town, as if enjoying a colorful oil painting.
MC: Such a beautiful place. What should we do here?
I hinted, and Shaw shrugged with a knowing smile.

Shaw: To be honest, I haven't planned anything. After all, we've been well-prepared throughout this journey, and I'm getting a bit tired of it.
He took a step back, covering my eyes from behind.
Shaw: So, let's just go with a random itinerary. You get to decide where we go. MC: Haha, can we really play like this? Shaw: Of course, aren't you the one claiming to be a lucky charm? It's time to test your luck.
After Shaw spun me around in place, I pointed forward casually.
He promptly released his hand, and following my fingertip, I found it happened to point to a shop.
The storefront displayed various heart-shaped items, and the signboard above had a pink and white name—Love Challenge.

Shaw: Your luck in choosing places is quite something, picking one I'm least interested in. MC: Do you already know what the shop is about? Shaw: No idea, but just by the name, it seems to have an intentionally created atmosphere, quite artificial.
Seeing a hint of disdain on his face, I mischievously pushed him into the shop.
MC: You set the rules yourself, so just follow them.

Inside, the shop was lively. Besides numerous couples, many harmonious families were also queuing up in front of the long corridor.
A staff member dressed in a mascot costume approached us, handing over a card with instructions.
Staff member: Welcome! This is a love-themed pop-up shop, focusing on a game called "You Guess More Than I Do." Staff member: Based on drawing lots, each person is assigned a "role," and the one in charge of gesturing comes up with a question for the other to guess.
After a brief introduction, I carefully read the instructions on the card and nudged Shaw with my elbow.
MC: It looks simple enough. With our skills, we should be able to win a plush toy reward. Want to give it a try?
Shaw raised an eyebrow, signifying his agreement.
After drawing lots, I became the guesser.
After Shaw finished writing the "question," we were led into a room with a floor-to-ceiling glass separating us at both ends, even blocking our voices.
Watching the countdown clock start ticking, I gestured to Shaw to start gesturing.
However, he seemed in no hurry, nonchalantly making two "thumbs up" gestures next to his ear.
MC: Rabbit...? Rabbit! What's next?
He then pointed to himself and drew a circle, finishing with a thumbs-up.
MC: …..??
I checked the time and gestured for him to repeat it. After he did, I was still puzzled.
Rabbit, Shaw, circle, thumbs up?
What does it mean?
Seemingly sensing my confusion, he sighed deeply with his hands on his hips.
I pursed my lips, decided to break the deadlock by playing defensively, and raised my hand to make the "1" gesture, planning to go one by one.
MC: The first word is rabbit, right?
I made a gesture resembling rabbit ears, tilting my head to confirm with him.
Seeing Shaw nod, I clenched both fists, mimicking the shape of red panda ears.
Worried he might not understand, I also drew the shape of a chubby tail behind me and shook it left and right.

Shaw: .......!
Perhaps I acted too enthusiastically, he chuckled, immediately took out his phone, and aimed it at me for a moment.
Then, he swiftly swiped and drew on the screen until he stopped, then beckoned me with his finger.
I seemed to understand something and quickly looked around, only to find no cameras here. I chuckled.
Unexpectedly, this person would "go easy" on me.
So I walked briskly to the glass, and he also turned his phone screen toward me—
The expected answer wasn't there, but instead, it captured a moment where he "parodied" me.
In addition to my pouting appearance, he drew reddish-brown red panda ears on my head and a long chubby tail behind me.
It was exactly the mimicry I had just done, but he added a touch of humor to it.
MC: ………
Watching the remaining time, I anxiously knocked on the glass, signaling him to be serious.
But he just shrugged carelessly and then flicked my forehead across the barrier.

Shaw: "......."
Although I didn't hear anything, that familiar mouth shape automatically filled in the voice of him teasing me, "Really stupid."
At that moment, the ending signal sounded.
I could only pout, grab a paper and pen, and replayed his actions in my mind repeatedly.
Firstly, the rabbit was undoubtedly correct. As for the red panda... he did point to himself, so it should be right?
I wrote down the phrase "Rabbits and red pandas are the best!" and showed it to him, thinking I got it right.

Shaw leaned over to look at the answer I wrote, and then his eyes slowly filled with laughter.
Just when I thought I guessed correctly, he made a crossing gesture in front of his chest.
MC: Shaw, you made me lose the plush toy reward for nothing! No, I need to see what you wrote!
Wrong answer.
After leaving the shop, the more I thought about it, the more unwilling I became. I reached out to grab the note from his pocket, but he skillfully dodged. As I continued to stomp toward him...
A chubby little pink rabbit pendant swung in front of my eyes.

Shaw: The prize plushies they offer aren't cute at all. Don't you think this one suits you better? Shaw: Consider it compensation from me.
The rabbit, nibbling on a carrot in the sunlight, looked adorable, and I instantly calmed down by half.
MC: When did you buy it?
Shaw: While you were touching up your makeup in the bathroom, I wandered around nearby. MC: You have a little conscience, but don't think you can divert my attention. Quickly, tell me what you wrote!

Shaw: You couldn't guess something so simple; it's your fault. So, you have to accept the consequences. MC: You! Shaw: Alright, it's time to add a finishing touch. This time, I'll treat you to hot pot, and you'll foot the bill. How about that?
Seeing that he was determined not to tell me, I glared at him with widened eyes.
MC: You didn't plan anything at all. I don't want any finishing touch. Shaw: Is that so? Then, I'll just confiscate this rabbit.
I quickly reached for the little rabbit, but he lifted it high.
Thinking about how to get it back, I first noticed the note hanging precariously at the edge of his pocket.
Humph, he was careless.
While pretending to reach for the rabbit, my other hand swiftly grabbed the crumpled note.

Shaw: ...Hey, don't be unfair. Give it back quickly. MC: I won't. Clearly, someone else is being unfair~
I grinned and quickly turned around to open the note. The words on it were vividly revealed—
"With you silly rabbit by my side, everything goes well."
I couldn't help but hum happily. Just as I was about to say something, my vision was suddenly blocked by someone.
MC: Humph, I've seen it already. MC: Although you call me stupid, I understand the meaning of this sentence because I am considerate.
I crouched down to escape his restraint while triumphantly waved the note in my hand.
MC: Since it's an expression of feelings, why hide it?

Shaw: Who said it's hidden? I just don't want to see certain people being smug.
Seeing him stubborn, a thought flashed through my mind, and I slowly started to smile.
MC: Shaw, didn't you say you hid a "something" before? MC: It wouldn't happen to be your feelings, right?
He glanced at me, and interest sparked in his eyes.

Shaw: If you're trying to probe me, I advise you to give up. MC: Why would I be probing? You clearly said we could find it before the end of the journey. Now, we're at the last stop. MC: Moreover, you mentioned it's not a physical item, meaning...
I paused, my gaze softening.
MC: It could be a sentence, a message you want to convey, or the understanding between us. MC: And after these days of little moments, I am convinced that the "answer" you hid is actually—
Before I could finish my sentence, he gently covered my mouth with the rabbit pendant.

Shaw: Stop. When did I say this is the last stop? Shaw: The organizers designed it as the final destination, not me.
Shaw smirked triumphantly, pulled me along without another word.
MC: Wait, where are we going?

i was tagged by i thinkkk @bright-and-burning and @481boxboxbaby absolutely ages ago, sorry it's taken me so long to get to this!
Are you named after anyone? no! my mum liked the name sophie because it means ‘wisdom’ in greek and she’d lived in greece for a while.
When was the last you cried? i had a little sob watching the ‘life and death of lily savage’ documentary on itv the other week because i am still so, so sad about paul o’grady dying, i adored him. as a kid, my favourite comedians (who i saw on tv) were julian clary and lily savage. half their jokes flew over my head but that dog was always in me!! anyway, as for real sobbing crying… i’m actually not sure? it was a while ago for sure. may it stay that way 🙏
Do you have kids? nope, and i won’t be having them. people used to tell me i’d change my mind once i got older and now i’m 35 and still have not experienced a single maternal twinge.
What sports do you play/have you played? i don’t play any kind of competitive sports and have avoided them for most of my life (i have extremely poor hand-eye coordination, hypermobile limbs and rubbish lungs. i’m not built for speed) but i do pole fitness and have done for about three years now, i’m not great at it (see above) but i loooove it and it’s gotten me way more hench than i was.
Do you use sarcasm? i used to use it constantly as a defence thing but less so these days. i do still use it though yeah.
What is the first thing you notice about people? sometimes i have this thing where the first second i meet someone i have this weird shine effect where i know they’re going to be a very important part of my life (good or bad). it’s only happened about three or four times but it’s always been right. on a more prosaic level: eyes, smile, body language.
What is your eye color? blue. it’s quite bright.
Scary movies or happy endings? scary movies!! love a good horror. i don’t like jumpscares or found footage/haunted doll whatever ones, but i love the nasty shit: video nasties, torture porn, french extreme, pinky horror, faux snuff, that kinda thing. i don’t want them so much these days but i was pretty obsessed for a while.
Any talents? i’m good at writing and drawing/painting, and i’m quite practical in the sense that i can fix things and build things, like i LOVE building flatpack furniture. i think my main ‘talent’ though is just that i can pick things up quickly. if i’m shown how to do something, generally i can do it pretty well quite quickly and i don’t need to be shown lots of times, and i’m good at being given a starting point and figuring things out from there. i think that’s the ‘talent’ i use most in life, certainly in work anyway.
Where were you born? north-west england.
What are your hobbies? writing! painting, drawing, reading, gaming, pole, strength training. i also have the classic ADHD thing of picking a new thing to be obsessed with for a month and spending a fortune on it three times a year.
Do you have any pets? no :( my mum has a lovely big useless fat cat called bandit though who i have shared custody of, she just can’t live at my flat.
How tall are you? 5’8’’ or 172cm
Favorite subject at school? art and english. i also quite liked what we called ‘tech’ which was like woodwork, metalwork, product design type stuff.
Dream job? i do not dream of labour. fr though i don’t really have one and never have, apart from maybe writer or artist but realistically i think i’d end up hating them if i had to rely on them to pay my bills. i thought about trying to get into motorsport jobs for a while but the hours look long, the pay is terrible, the atmosphere for femme people is…mixed, and i’d have to move halfway across the country. so yeah idk. universal basic income now!

Will and the Maps
I lost some of this post due to a computer reset but I suddenly gained the will to write it again! (no pun intended)
Was watching a blind reaction of season 2 the other day and something interesting occurred to me. This isn't a full thought or theory, just a connection to previous theories I hadn't really considered before.
First, I'll give a quick review of the theories this new one is related to.
#1. Will "created" the Upside Down. I don't believe he literally hand crafted and shape the Upside Down on purpose with full knowledge of what he was doing. My theory here is that when Will was pulled into/fell into the Upside Down, he completely unintentionally shaped the meta physical space around him into what we know as the Upside Down.
#2. When El opened the gate in 1983, she created a bubble which we now refer to as the Upside Down. These two theories may seem contradictory but it's kinda how I view the whole situation. I believe the world El sent Henry to in 1979, Dimension X, is a plane that has always existed and has nothing to do with El. Then, in 1979 when she tore open space and time, creating the mother gate, the two planes of existence overlapped or touched for a moment, creating a bubble we refer to as the "Upside Down"
Below is a timeline of events I think happened.
In image 1, you have the Rightside Up and Dimension X as two entirely separate planes.
In image 2, you have the aftermath of El opening the mothergate and essentially creating a bridge between Dimension X and the Rightside Up. At this point in time, I theorize the "Upside Down" wasn't the Upside Down just yet.
Lastly, in image 3 is when I believe the Upside Down truly becomes the Upside Down IF Will really did "paint" over the empty space with his presence.
Of course, it's entirely possible that the Upside Down became the Upside Down in step 2 merely by touching two planes together, but we shall see!

Onto the new thoughts I had,
I was watching S2E4 when Will was trying to explain the tunnels he was seeing in his vision. Then, later drawing them out in a big winding puzzle followed by Will telling Mike the more he "spreads" through Hawkins the more connected he feels to the "Shadow Monster".
That bit about spreading through Hawkins making him feel more connected to the Mind Flayer is what partially spawned my theory about Will (unintentionally) making the Upside Down look like it currently does. Why would the Mind Flayer spreading around like that make him feel more connected? In fact, just the presence of the Mind Flayer approaching town caused him great mental and arguably physical distress before he was possessed.
The imagery of Will drawing the tunnels spread across the town in a dazed hypnotic state reminded me of this theory in the first place. Will didn't know he was drawing. None of them realized what it was (except Hopper who ran off on his own without telling anyone) until Bob came by and recognized it as Hawkins itself.
Like I said, this isn't exactly a new full thought out theory here but something about this moment compounded with everything new we've learned, ESPECIALLY at the end of S4 when Will reveals the moment he stepped back into Hawkins he could feel everything again....
I just feel like Will is not just deeply tied to Henry, the Mind Flayer, and the Upside Down, but Hawkins itself.
Like, whatever happened to him the moment he was taken from the shed created some unbreakable chain to Hawkins that he can't escape.
It brings up other thoughts like, "Why was there a renewed sense of urgency for Henry/the Mind Flayer to open giant gates and destroy the barrier between worlds? I feel as though it was because El AND Will left. If Will plays an important part in all this, it must've been frustrating that he left the area and couldn't easily be reached.
It also made me think, "If there's a timeskip, what's taking him so long to start his plans? I would think Vecna would want to start attacking and escaping immediately since he seemed like he was in such a hurry." Well, what if he isn't in as much of a hurry anymore because Will is back in town?? I mean, there's no reason to rush and escape to a far off place if one of your puzzle pieces of chilling in the danger zone right? If Will can sense him, surely the opposite is true?
And you may be asking, "But why is Will such a target anyway?" Well I dunno. Way back it was stated that Will was taken for a reason. I don't know what that reason could be, but if Will holds the key to the Upside Down and how it looks.... I dunno. I feel like that could be a valuable pawn to have?
Think of it this way. El created the bubble and Will shaped what that bubble looks like. It stands to reason both of them can probably shift and change what the Upside Down looks like. Maybe Henry could too.
But... if you think of the Upside Down as a bridge from the Rightside Up to the Upside Down.... and let's say, one of those people in particular can make it a stronger bridge or cause it to crumble.....?
Ah I'm just rambling now. Pfff. But I feel like I'm onto something....

About My OC: Lexa Edition
So I said a while ago I wanted to post some stuff about my OCs and I've decided to do it now, starting with my sweet girl Lexa.
If you don't know Lexa, she's from this fic here. Not really necessary to read before this, you could read either first. I'm focusing on her Padawan era right now since that's what we've seen of her story so far. I'll be updating things as I think of them and as her story progresses. Not really in any particular order, I tried to keep them chronological but that got too hard so things jump around a bit lol.
(I am learning to draw right now so I can eventually draw my OCs and you can see what they look like instead of just relying on my garbage descriptions)
About Lexa: 
Born on Ryloth in 38 BBY 
She has light purple skin with darker purple spots everywhere (think like Kit Fisto's spots in the CW show).
She's tall, like most Twi'leks are (like she's almost looking the clones in the eyes when they meet).
Has a traditional Twi’leki name so she shortened it to Lexa for the sake of everyone else
She likes to let people try and pronounce it. She thinks it’s hilarious when they fail horribly. 
Luminara Unduli was the Jedi that discovered her on Ryloth when she was two years old. 
Her parents always wanted the best for her so they let her go.
She doesn’t really remember them since she was so young when she was discovered. 
Baby Lexa was absolutely in awe of Aayla Secura when they first met and followed her around.
She’s two years older than Ahsoka so naturally they were close as younglings. 
Absolutely got up to shenanigans, mostly instigated by Lexa.
Also close with Barriss since Force healing is Lexa's jam.
Was absolutely raging when Ahsoka was being framed for the attack on the temple. She knows Ahsoka wouldn't do something like that.
Was heartbroken over Barriss and Ahsoka's decision to leave, but supported Ahsoka's decision cause she just wants what's best for her friend.
Plo Koon took Lexa on as his Padawan when she was 14, two years before the war started. 
This only brought Lexa and Ahsoka closer and Lexa became a sort of big sister to Ahsoka. 
Plo wouldn’t let Lexa join him on any missions or campaigns for the first few months of the war. (He's secretly glad after what happened with the Malevolence).
Papa Plo loves his Padawan though and absolutely bragged about her to his troops non stop.
Naturally they all know who she is by the time she finally gets to meet them and go on her first mission. 
Wolffe was a bit hesitant at first, after all a literal child is going to join them.
Definitely gets annoyed by her and her excitement upon first meeting.
But after five minutes of knowing her he decides he will shoot anyone and anything that causes her harm. 
She really wins him and the pack over after the battle when he lost his eye. I like to think it happened not long after Lexa joined, and of course she was ready to throw hands with Ventress for hurting him. 
This sweet baby did everything she could for him and he decided then that this is his child and he will protec and he will attac.
Lexa loves the clones as much as Plo and would fight anyone who speaks badly of them.
Wolffe had a full blown panic attack after their first battle because Papa Plo really let this little baby out on the battlefield with no protection but a lightsaber. Unacceptable. (Not that he doubts her skills but he’s heard far too many horror stories from Cody about jedi losing their lightsabers mid-fight.) 
He had armor made specially for her. She doesn’t wear all of it when she fights but she wears some protection to appease him. 
Wolffe painted the Wolf Pack symbol on it himself. 
Lexa definitely didn't cry when saw it. 
Really tries to think up a way to attach her saber to her hand permanently during a battle because he’s not about to have her lose it and put herself at risk. 
Puts up with the shenanigans she gets into with Boost and Sinker.
His trouble twins are already a pain in his ass and then add his pup in there and he's in for a long day.
Was not at all prepared for the first time Lexa and Ahsoka were together after a combined campaign with the 501st. 
Lexa has trouble sleeping sometimes and thus the cuddle piles are born. 
She overthinks a lot because of her perfectionist nature. 
Wolffe doesn't give compliments often but absolutely will compliment his little pup. 
Warthog was the one that coined the nickname as a joke since Lexa liked to follow Wolffe around in the beginning. 
It stuck and now everyone knows she's the Pack's little pup.

WIP WEDNESDAY - 12/07/23
AND IT'S ACTUALLY ON A WEDNESDAY! Thanks @theviridianbunny for the tag <3 I regret to inform you ... it's more hair again @.@ (this one is actually different, I swear)

Soooo if you've been following me you probably know I've done a few things since my last WIP Wednesday, namely more tattoo stuff, and more recently ... more hair stuff.

After a LOT of agonising over it I finally consider the neck 'done' ... or done enough (vaguely ... thinking about doing something more in the transition between the tattoo and the jaw but I probably should stop honestly or I'll never stop). This means I probably have enough done to get away with taking screenshots while I work on the rest of it. Been pondering drawing up an actual plan for the rest beyond what I've been doing so far - mostly winging it and smashing things together. Might get stuff done faster, who knows.
Anyway I am back on my hair shit, yet again that's going just about ... as well as you'd expect ...

Okay okay, I'll be honest, this has been fixed but I gotta say after spending a whole 12 hrs staring at lines of code, changing entries and having to redo them several times because I'd fucked up some file name or changed my mind or found out 'no that is not where you should be putting that folder you absolute dingus' and this was the best I could do was kind of hilarious. 😂
The important part was I'd gotten it IN, which was a process and a half, considering THIS time I'm using a custom made 2048px hair texture (alpha is 4k) and a higher poly mesh - which means yeah, this is the same hair rebuilt from scratch.

I got it in. All of it. No missing textures, no hair cards in the hair cap slot. The physics look janky but it's somewhat intentional - this is a minimal effort rigging job based on the alt rig, the priority was to get this hair texture IN so I could see how it looked in game and how everything sat before I dug myself further into a sunk cost fallacy over this second version of the hair.
And I'm actually pretty happy with it? There is some curl distortion yeah but it's not as bad as it was last time - and considering I'd rigged that one PROPERLY is saying something. Higher poly + textures are making a big difference here. It's pretty obvious in the comparison -

Also yes I am aware this one is WAY too shiny, but that one is a considerably easy fix now I know how Vertex Paint actually affects this value. I was a bit too generous on the highlight gradient so I've already repainted what I have so far, using side-by-side references with existing game meshes to try and get it 'equal' but it's likely gonna be a lot of back and forth calibrating with that one.

Excessive shiny-ness aside I'm actually REALLY happy with how the side curl is sitting nice and neat in her jacket collar this time! Also man ... doesn't that look silky ... (ok maybe some shine is good lmao)
I guess that's kind of it on the mod front. I've got other projects in a very initial stage (it's fanfic. Ofc it's fanfic) but work on both the tattoo bodysuit + hair is eating up a lot of my daily spoon allowance so that one will happen when it happens I guess (and probably when at minimum, this goddamn hair is done).
Oh and this hair is using UUH4V. I GOT IT TO WORK. Which means I'll be able to use multiple rigs which will hopefully prevent these carefully crafted curls from getting minced beyond recognition, fingers crossed.

okay i'll say it again. i'm personally not a very big fan of the theory that Alice Creel and Karen Wheeler are the same person from a personal perspective. However, looking at the show, i think at this point we should consider it as more of an option because aside from the multiple weird instances about it. i think the most notable is that it's one of the most solid explanations for what Nancy saw in her vision.
Vecna specifically threatening Karen, Holly, and Mike. leaving Ted out. is funny to us from an audience perspective because it allows for the assumption that Nancy just doesn't give enough of a shit about Ted for Vecna to use his death as something shocking.
but this makes very little sense in universe and with the way it was shot:
While Nancy is never shown to be close to Ted it's also clear she doesn't hate him. they're very ambivalent to each other, we rarely even see them in the same scenes. from a character perspective, jumping from this to Nancy not caring if something happened to him is very inconsistent character writing. most people would care if someone in their lives died even if they weren't personally very close. for Nancy to really not care if he died they would require a more negatively afflicted relationship. which they don't have.
the moment is also not played like a joke. the entirety of Nancy's vision serves as foreshadowing to the end of s4 and s5. it's all taken very seriously both by the characters and the audience. Nancy leaving Ted out of her vision is subtle and something we only talk about in hindsight because it's weird Vecna left only him out. causing jokes like "even Vecna says fuck Ted Wheeler" to spring up as an explanation. but the scene isn't shot like a joke and the exclusion of him falls flat. it was just subtle enough to be there and pass by ga's prime focus since no character drew attention to it, or asked afterwards "what about your dad?" "what about my dad?" which would have made it an actual joke and given pay off to this weird list. but none of this happens. Ted is just Missing from the vision and we're moving on. it's not played like something funny to notice, Nancy is crying and everyone is serious.
so. why IS Ted missing from the vision? summing up what we know:
it does not come across like a joke at all. without drawing attention to it the GA misses it, causing the joke to not work. and even more attentive audiences who pick up on it, recognize it's not really a funny haha joke. and while we can try and turn it into something jokey and say it's because Ted is stupid and nobody likes him, that explanation makes much less sense for the characters themselves. Nancy and Ted don't have a bad enough relationship as far as we're shown to justify Nancy suddenly not caring if he died. he's still a person she sees every day, even without a parental bond she would at least have an opinion on him dying.
so if this dialogue doesn't serve the purpose of character development/ exposition or comedy, why is it there?
well like the rest of the vision, it's part of the points that pretty straightforwardly tell us what will happen next season. s5 will have a creature with a gaping mouth, monsters all over Hawkins, and the Wheeler family minus Ted in danger.
Mike being in danger here makes sense since he's already hinted at being a central character in s5. both from a "return to s1" perspective, because of the "love triangle" plot and painting plot that include him, AND the fact that him and Will had a whole scene dedicated to planning Vecna's death as a conclusion to the season. Mike and his relationship with Will and the overall story are being highlighted so him subsequently being in danger because of that is a given. (there's also the whole argument to be made of Mike getting targeted Specifically because of Will as a bargaining tool) still, why Holly and Karen would have that same target on their back is a little bit more unclear as of now.
but the Real question is why Vecna doesn't include Ted when he already lists the whole Wheeler family by name. naming three people and then being too lazy for a fourth is... pointed. again i've made it clear i do believe Nancy would be sad if Ted died. there's also the opposite question to be raised: why does Vecna go to Nancy and show her Karen, Holly, and Mike specifically? there's other people Nancy is close to, arguably even closer with than with Mike for example since the two of them Also have a very minimal bond. Vecna showing her Jonathan dead, or any of the kids, Steve, even Robin by this point. it would hurt her just as bad. if not worse. because Nancy is Not a family oriented character. she doesn't value her family over her friends, the whole blood is thicker than water is bullshit to her and her characterization shows that, she's actively afraid of repeating the suburban nuclear family life her mother chose. Nancy is NOT more scared of her family dying than she is of her friends dying.
so this raises even More questions now as if the one we have isn't out there enough already. into the question pile it goes:
why does Vecna only show her her family and no one else when it would arguably be equally as shocking for her, if not more so in some cases? why is only Ted missing? and honestly why does Vecna even show Nancy the vision? (there were 7 people present so it was a 1/7 chance it would be her. why didn't he go for Steve standing right next to her? he had to pick one of them but given he had 7 options and seemingly no bias towards any of them we can question this choice.)
as of now we can't answer any of these questions, we'll need more insight from s5 to understand what Vecna is trying to get at here. however, this is where the theory comes back in because as of now it's one of the only things that actually Could explain it.
if Karen was actually Alice Creel and somehow survived that night. (there's a Lot to say about this but this i'll get into it on another post) it would mean Henry's attempt at familicide went even worse than originally thought. not only did his father survive but his sister would have lived as well and even gone on to have a family of her own after the fact. Victor tells us that he fears the "demon" will return, kill him for good, even Vecna himself tells Nancy he's interested in paying Victor a visit soon, so by that we can assume Henry is finishing his sloppy family murder that really only killed his mom next season. (and in all honesty, i don't see Victor surviving it, he's got death flags all over him)

but this presents a new possibility. Alice, now having children of her own, means that Henry's original family he wanted to kill is now extended by a nephew and two nieces he didn't have before. which raises the question: why wouldn't he want them dead too? Henry's murders were never about the people he Lived with, it was targeted at his family specifically - it was about the ideals he hated so much and what their superficially perfect happy nuclear family embodied despite being "bad people" on the inside, according to Henry's perception.
so when Henry finally goes back on what he announced to Nancy and kills his family for real next time, who would he classify as family? just Victor and Alice? or Alice's children who are his blood relatives as well?
because "Mom, and Holly... Mike" would be the exact list of Henry's living relatives according to this theory. minus of course Victor (locked in Pennhurst) and Nancy herself (the one receiving the threat).
and this would also finally give us an explanation of why Ted wasn't included in the vision. being a random well-earning man Karen married years ago he has no blood relation to the Creel family and therefore no significant role in a potential familicide. giving us the explanation that it's not Nancy who doesn't care about him dying but actually Vecna, since he would really just be a Random Guy to him.
this theory would all in all go to explain why:
the 1/7 chance of having the vision fell on Nancy.
Vecna then went out of his way to give her his whole tragic backstory in an immersive dia show instead of us seeing it through El's NINA memories
AND why Ted Wheeler is weirdly missing from the threats known family killer Henry Creel makes.
again, i'm personally not a die hard believer of this theory myself, but at this point there's a lot that would make infinitely more sense when placed with the backdrop of this theory. for this scene alone it's the only solid explanation as of now to really give us a reason as to what could be going on here. of course we're still missing the facts s5 will give us but with what we're working with right now? this theory is actually a lot less crack-y than i initially believed.
(ngl i was pretty anti this theory at first. again, not the biggest fan of the "and they're related" trope in general so it's not my full jam. but I have to consider it at this point because there's just so much in canon hinting at it. it'll either actually be what canon goes for or it's supposed to be a deliberate audience misguide and fakeout to leave people guessing for s5 because there's Too Much going on here. this scene is just the tip of the iceberg too, i'm genuinely amazed how much there actually is both in the show as well as narrative wise)

I don't want to derail @theshitpostcalligrapher's post, so I'll make my own. Anyway, they were really nice to @theworseshitpostcalligrapher on this post, where the latter rewrote the same three words in a similar style in a reblog. (So it's really nice all around - there's acknowledgement of what's going on, there's approval, there's building up.)
And I wanted to share a story.
Back when I was in primary & middle school (grades 1-8 over here in Romania), I was a very, very earnest kid, a bit naive, but when I loved people or things, I really loved them. Keep that in mind for what happens next.
We had 1 hour of Art class/week all throughout middle school, but our middle school Art teacher Did. Not. Teach. I can't emphasize how much teaching didn't happen. We had to have watercolors/tempera and a paint brush, and he'd tell us things like, "Paint something Olympics-themed" or "Draw something for the local theater festival". Then we'd get grades based on how nice our paintings/drawings were. That was it. That was all.
...I found out things like the human body having proportions only when I was already a student, while talking to my future bff. I found out tempera isn't "watercolors, but in a tube" even later. But never mind that.
My middle school best friend had talent, though. She was naturally Good At Art and she came up with this amazing style (well, amazing to us 12 yos) where she made up big drawings out of tiny pencil doodles - asterisks and spirals were among her favorites, I think. It was not quite like typewriter art, because her doodles didn't overlap, but typewriter art + Pointilism + doodles is the best way I can describe it. The rest of us hadn't even thought about using a pencil.
I was in love. And I could sort of understand how she did it, so I started... copying that. I wanted to try it out for myself, do the thing. I changed the basic doodle shapes, but I kept the general idea. (I would have preferred something realistic and colorful, but I had no idea how to do any of that; see: teaching, not happening)
My colleagues called me a copycat (understandable). My mother called me a copycat (*sigh*). Even my teacher called me a copycat (I'm wondering vaguely if that's why he never taught anything, so we'd never end up copying a style we saw, *le gasp*). One must never, ever do what someone else is doing! ORIGINALITY!!!ONE! Figure it out yourself, in your own way!
Adult!Me thinks our teacher could have used this as a Teachable Moment to talk about why her drawings worked and to point us in the direction of similar artists or whatever. Or maybe he could have realized I wanted to learn something and pointed me in the direction of, I don't know, a book about how to draw, maybe. If he didn't want to teach his class himself. But I digress.
I was left feeling bad and like a complete loser. My best friend at the time mocked me, too, because of course she did. As far as I know, when we got to high school she never drew again (we were no longer friends by then, due to unrelated reasons).
It feels particularly wonderful to me to come across people actively encouraging and helping each other to learn, even if they're walking paths others have walked before. I never learned how to draw, but I did learn how to write stories, and there's a lot of fumbling around and imitating others to see what works and why before you become good. It takes so much practice. It's hard.
And sometimes maybe you just want to do The Thing for yourself, and that's also fine. Who the heck cares if you decide to have your own Van Gogh-style painting of your own bedroom on the wall of your bedroom?
Anyway, it makes me so happy when I see creatives being creative and sharing things with others. It's probably very flattering to be the only one at the lonely top, but when you have a community and you can learn from others, everyone wins more.

I'll try to explain this as simply as possible.
Imagine a person's memories as a big painting, made of everything that has ever happened to them.
Imagine the consequences of my accident as someone throwing a bucket of black paint at it.
I don't remember most of the specifics anymore, just the broad strokes, and I have to fill in the gaps with new memories.
I do remember a few things though, and I have picked up a few new things:
I like trying various types of hats, learning all sorts of things, and those weird desserts the humans call Dippin' Dots.
And dislikes?
Mostly just when I don't understand something.
Oh, and Parsley, never again.
And abilities?
Why would I tell all of what I am capable of to someone I have never met?
Or do you think of me as some sort of idiot?

I remember my first time interacting with you in a twst server, we were in in an OC category and I was so happy to see you there posting your art. The moment I saw your art I was IN LOVE, the way you draw, the way you color, and all their expressions amazes me and blesses my eyes. I know I always say this but you are a big inspiration for me and this is not mixed with a joke, I'm saying this wholeheartedly. Whenever I see your art, it always motivates me and whenever I'm feeling down because of my art, I always try harder and strive to be amazing like you 🥹💛
Always remember that if someone doesn't like your art, it's not and never will be your job to adjust for them. They should be the one adjusting for themselves

that's actually more than i thought, lmao. standouts for me were a sky longing for memories, windows to worlds, master the art of speed painting, and figure drawing for artists -- each of these offered some really valuable insight for me and helped me think about something in a different way. i got all these via library and at this point i'm worried that i've exhausted the catalogs of every library i have access to :/
i've only ever taken one art class in my life and it wasn't a really great experience, plus i'm not great at teaching myself things, so finally reaching for instructional books about art this year felt like a big leap and i'm glad that i took it. i also watched some of the drawclass VODs that are up on youtube and started looking for resources like studies and sketches from artists i like. idk, i guess it's kind of been about demystifying the process for me. there's a lot of stuff i've been doing the long way round for years and years or not doing at all because i didn't know that you were "allowed" to take a shortcut, or that it was even possible (eg. foliage brushes).
this year was pretty wobbly in terms of how happy i was with the art i made and how much of it i made, particularly bc Life Happened in august and just has not stopped, and i know that i felt really bad and unhappy with art for a big chunk of the year -- but now that i'm past that, i can see that i've improved a lot in a lot of the ways in which i've been wanting to improve. you know what's nuts? i only started actively drawing backgrounds for every piece last year. now i can't imagine not doing something for a background.
i think i also gnawed through a lot of... idk, shame? inadequacy? some yucky feeling i had about tagging my art for tumblr search. i think it's partially that we're all back on this hell site and i just don't care about showing my ass anymore. whatever. y'all either get to see my fucking anime Poasting or unfollow/mute/block/whatever, i don't really give a shit. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
the art goals i set for myself at the start of the year were to try making a short comic more than once, which i did! twice, actually, though i didn't post one of them. that's ok. i don't remember if this was a goal, but i submitted art to a digital zine this year too! i need to check if i can post it yet actually... lmao. and i joined a fandom event as an artist, which i'm really excited for. i haven't done a fandom event since 2013 and i've never done one as an artist.
my art goals for 2023 are to do thumbnails for most of the big pieces that i draw, and to draw people interacting physically with each other when i draw 2+ in one piece. that'll be tough since i honestly enjoy the subtlety of Two Guys Standing Next To Each Other but it's an area i want to improve in.
