Calling All A-Team Fans – Help Preserve Fic from Fanfiction.net

I recently reblogged a post warning that Fanfiction.net could soon be lost to us forever. In the interest of preserving fandom history, many people are taking action to save fics before the site goes down (which, as far as I can tell, could happen at any moment – could be days, could be months, could be years... could end up being totally fine, I have no idea, but I’d rather not risk it).

There are 64 pages of A-Team (TV) fanfic on Fanfiction.net.

That’s about 1,600 individual stories.

They could all be lost to us at any moment (if the author hasn’t uploaded them elsewhere, like to AO3).

In the interest of preserving our fandom’s history, I’m rallying y’all to help save these fics.

To quote from someone on that other post:

“Do it comprehensively—start on the last page and save every. Single. One. Make sure you include the header and any author’s notes. EDIT NOTHING, ONLY DOCUMENT. Yes, if that means someone misspelled something or you spot a misnamed character, you need to keep that error. If you can form a “network” with friends to save all of a fandom’s works, DO IT.”

I’m taking care of the first (er, last) page right now. I’m not sure if I’ll have the energy to do more tonight. But I’m getting started archiving just in case we lose the fics.

I’ve been copy/pasting the fics into individual Google Docs, storing them in a folder I’ve titled “Fanfiction.net A-Team Archive”, and titling them as suggested below:

“I strongly recommend using the following format for whatever you save, so it can be indexed later: fandom_fictitle_author_datefirstposted.fileextension. So for example (I’m making this fic up for demonstration purposes, don’t bother looking for it), naruto_blessing_ichigo98_07192009 would be Blessing, by ichigo98, posted in the Naruto fandom on 19 July 2009. This provides all the information needed to see if a fic has been cross posted to the AO3, and to run a search engine to see if it’s archived elsewhere.”

I’ve also been copy/pasting the fic stats from the top of the fic, and putting them in the “summary” section of the Google Doc:

I’m not saying it needs to be done this way specifically, just as long as fics are getting saved.

If you wanna join me, I’ve set up a Google spreadsheet to mark which pages have been covered.

Feel free to tackle a page and put your tumblr @ or nickname or initial it or whatever you’re comfortable with.

If you’re going to use Google Drive/Docs to save the fics, I would recommend using a spare Google account if you have one (I’m using an account I have for getting spam emails lol), so you have plenty of room in the Drive.

Note on copy/pasting: Fanfiction.net’s interface doesn’t let you copy/paste on the desktop version. So, when you open a fic, change the “www” part of the URL to “m” to bring up the mobile version. This should let you highlight and copy the text without issues. I’ve also found that, on my computer at least, scrolling to the bottom and highlighting and then dragging the mouse back up to the top of the page highlights the text a lot quicker than starting at the top and scrolling down.

And, remember, this isn’t about saving only the fics you like. It’s about preserving the creations of our fellow fans and creating an archive. So.

I don’t know what we’ll actually do with these fics later... upload them to Ao3?? That seems like something we shouldn’t do without permission from the authors, right?? But many of them may be unreachable, given that some of these fics were posted all the way back in 2000. So. Idk.

But for now, the important thing is just to make sure we have them saved.

If you have some time to spare, tackling a page or two would be cool.

Just remember to check the spreadsheet so you don’t waste time saving fics that have already been saved.

If you want to add your saved fic Docs to the same Google Drive folder, I’ve made it public and editable, so you should be able to put your Docs in there. Please don’t abuse this power lol this is about preserving fandom history, and I happen to think that matters.

EDITING TO ADD: Someone pointed out that Fanfiction.net automatically filters out “M” rated fics when you first go to a search page, so if you’re helping archive the fics, remember to go to “Filters” and change the “Rated” filter to “Rating: All”, so we’re not missing anything.

Hiya! This is my first time requesting a matchup from any blog! I'd love a romantic match up for Fullmetal Alchemist and OHSHC. I'm pan and Female.

I'm a Scorpio, but I'm not really big on star signs, though sometimes when i had to go through papers at my old job I'd look in the Horoscope section just to see if there were any joke ones.

I consider myself an ambivert. I'm a bit shy at first and I get shaky and quiet when ordering food. But once I'm friends with someone I tend to match their energy. I also start to cuss a lot when I feel comfortable around someone!

I love to cook and bake, a lot, there's no recipe I won't try! Literally just before sending this I made Russian tea cookies! Tomorrow imma try my hand at Baklava. I also love to draw, paint and read.

I'm currently in college and taking classes in humanities, I really like to learn about the history behind the arts. It's honestly very interesting to see how art, in all forms, changes throughout time. I'm also a huge science nerd, I love space, paleontology, and biology of all kids really. I also really enjoy rock climbing and hiking, I love nature and being outdoors in general.

(I highly recommend going to South Dakota at some point if you enjoy hiking and rocklimbing, the rocky mountains are gorgeous. The mica in the ground makes the dirt sparkle lol)

I don't really have a specific 'type' but a sense of humor is a must. I'm good with PDA. I don't want to have kids in the future, unless adopted or through a surrogate.

She would help you with your social anxiety too, and be your biggest cheerleader whenever you overcome your fears. In turn, you hold her close on stormy nights <3

the FBI agent looking at my computer must be so incredibly concerned. Here’s Laito and Cordelia analysis, Part II

Hiya, Corn here! This is Part II of this analysis series! Part one’s here!

Not getting into the trauma part of it yet. Just explaining abusive power dynamics and how incestuous relationships work. As well as Stockholm syndrome. Lovely! Lovely combo! Fuck!!!

Same trigger warnings as last time still apply!

As always, rant under the cuuuuut!

Ok, from last time, we’ve established the elements that were set in place for Cordelia to do this to Laito, when Laito’s trauma began, and the possible fact that he was groomed as a child for sexual exploitation. Wow. Yay. Amazing. This is so gross!!! Thanks, I hate it!!!! I know I usually cary these topics with just an informational tone but I just can’t with this ;lskfjklsajf But I’m here typing this, you’re here reading this, so let’s just get on with the grossness!

Section 3: Legal Definitions of Incest and Power Dynamics

Now we’re gonna get into the flesh of the problem, and what we know happened. From last time, and common DL knowledge, Laito was coerced into having sex with Cordelia. I say coerced, rather than forced, because it’s not like Laito seemed to resist it. He seems to “willingly” give Cordelia that. Is dubious consent, consent? Oh fuck no, and dubious or coerced consent shouldn’t even count in here considering it’s straight up incest. Any type of incest, most especially between a parent and a child, is not considered consensual, even if it “technically is.” That’s how it’s handled in a court of law, at least in America (where I’m from and reside in), and I do agree with that morally as well. A “romantic” and sexual relationship between a parent (or adult family member; aunt, grandfather, etc) and a child (is just gross) preys upon the power dynamic between them. This isn’t any consensual BDSM power dynamic (obviously), or a constructive power dynamic in the workplace; it’s just a power dynamic already instilled into the relationship where it is taken advantage of. That’s not just fucked up incest, that’s an example of a toxic relationship from the get go. Also, there’s a power dynamic usually between a parent and child, but that doesn’t mean it’s always toxic. It just needs to be done responsibly, which good parents (or any adult in power) know how to maneuver around it and not take advantage of it for manipulation etc.

In healthy relationships, you both start on equal ground. It usually never works out if you don’t see the other as an equal, whether you have a predisposed power dynamic at the beginning or not. I’m talking any relationship; family relationships, friendships, romantic, sexual, etc. Although you older folks might know about BDSM and how there’s a “power dynamic” instilled in the relationship, a chosen and consensual “power dynamic” still involves both parties seeing the other one as an equal––intrinsically. It’s just very different than a predisposed power dynamic. That even goes with friendship too! Or any kind of healthy, nontoxic social interaction! Taken directly from Psychology Today, “Shared power creates happy individuals and satisfying interactions.” People need to be on equal ground in order to have a healthy relationship. Which,,,, we know does not happen with Cordelia and Laito (and Laito and Yui for that matter, but that’s during another part of this series). An article I saw during the research of this explains further about how power dynamics can be constructive. This focuses more on the workplace, but it applies to this because it’s looking at the other person as another person (an equal) but uses that predisposed power for encouragement, empowerment, and constructiveness (like a good parent or adult role model would do). I hope this makes sense!

Basically Cordelia is abusing her power in order to do all this to Laito. That’s why grooming would make a lot of sense in this as well, because we know it’s definitely not the first time Cordelia has taken advantage of a power imbalance to her own selfish benefit. That’s why incest isn’t really explained with the same science as pedophilia. I forget if I’ve mentioned it before, but one way pedophilia can occur in a person if their brain was originally biologically wired in a way that sees children as sexual objects. With incest, it could also work like that as well, but it is mainly power abuse, like most sexual exploitation, harassment, assault, etc is.

Section 4: Incest (I’d make a sweet home Alabama joke but that’s low hanging fruit)

Ok so now that we’ve gone over the legality of incest, and how power dynamics can be taken advantage of, we’re gonna look into the type of incest (yes apparently there are types) that Cordelia and Laito fits into. Also if this already wasn’t clear or anything, hi incest and pedophilia etc are forms of abuse, there is no justifying it at all. It’s abuse, no matter what’s said. I know these are fictional characters but I sometimes see Ayato x Cordelia and Laito x Cordelia etc posts and I kinda just wanna commit heinous crimes whenever I see that. Just the idea of that absolutely sickens me (on top of the abuse shown in DL already). Anyways, after all of that out of the way, let’s go into this.

Since Laito is biologically 17, I’d say that he’s considered as a child (teenager) by demon world standards. We don’t know his age when Cordelia first physically exploited him, but we do know that his same “teenage” sprite is used during the flashbacks. Since his trauma fits so well with the aftermath definition of parent/child incest, I’m just gonna give y’all information on that. This is also called “child incestuous abuse,” which is also a form of child sexual abuse.

I learned an interesting factoid researching this, and that is in Japan, the most commonly believed incestuous relationship was between mothers and sons. In the West, we think of fathers/daughters. In Japan, the media covers more on mother/son incestuous acts; while statistically, more father/daughter incestuous acts are taken place. Just something interesting(?) I found, and probably why DL chose that for storytelling too.

In this Wikipedia article, taken from a scientific paper (I’d take it directly from the source but you need an account to get in and I think you need to pay for it), it says this:

A study of victims of father–daughter incest in the 1970s showed that there were "common features" within families before the occurrence of incest: estrangement between the mother and the daughter, extreme paternal dominance, and reassignment of some of the mother's traditional major family responsibility to the daughter.

Sure, this talks about father/daughter incestuous relationships, but if we take this and reverse most of the roles, it shows Laito’s situation to a T:

Estrangement between Karlheinz and Laito

Extreme maternal dominance (aka Cordelia being very abusive/manipulative)

Reassignment of some of the parental responsibility to Laito (there’s many examples of “big bro Laito,” and Ayato and Kanato considers that they used Laito as a “sacrifice”––as a “shield” for the both of them. Sure this isn’t explicit parental responsibility shown through Laito but I’d say he acts more like a family member to Ayato and Kanato too)

Section 5: Stockholm syndrome? With parental figures?

Laito had some interesting situations occur during this whole thing with Cordelia. One of the most infamous scenes from the game (that’s also illustrated in the HDB manga) is a flashback Laito has where he’s locked up, forced to see Cordelia and Richter have sex. He’s appalled by the fact at first, but then attempts to convince himself that he’s into it. However, I won’t get into the effects until the next part.

I didn’t find much about Stockholm syndrome being in this specific case with incest and kidnapping a child etc. When you look up Stockholm syndrome related to parents you get quite the sexist “article” that definitely mocks the whole Stockholm syndrome thing and makes fun of guys being into Glee and such,,,, so that wasn’t a very helpful article. However, I’m just gonna mish mash and put a lot of concepts that we’ve learned together. But first, a look into Stockholm syndrome.

Stockholm syndrome occurs when an abuse victim develops empathy or even intimate feelings for their abuser or captor. This happens because any bit of kindness the abuser enacts towards their victim is taken so positively, that the victim “forgets” all the negative actions, and focuses on the positive ones. This isn’t some sort of “oh ya gotta think positive!” kind of thing, it’s how abusers get away with their bullshit and how someone can be so trapped in a relationship with them. It’s also called traumatic bonding or victim brainwashing (source). This doesn’t always happen with people who are held hostage, like in Stockholm syndrome’s name origin.

A parent’s influence can be a strong one. Doesn’t even have to be related to by blood. But a figure that is supposed to be nurturing—whether they are or not—still has power over the “child.” He definitely went through Stockholm Syndrome himself with Cordelia, considering the grooming and the “love”/hate relationship he has with Cordelia. I did some more digging, and apparently Stockholm Syndrome can still occur more commonly with sexually abused victims. Which we all know he is. With the possible grooming, on top of the power abuse and sexual abuse, creates an incredibly toxic concoction. Here we go. The (rotten) cherry on top. Directly from my HDB notes, here’s a snippet from his Maniac Prologue:

Cordelia: Nnn…Hey, Laito. You are a good boy. Laito: …!! Cordelia: Right, Laito? Laito: Yeah, that’s right. I’m…I’m a good boy after all. ーー Besides, I’m the type of person who only get more aroused from this kind of thing.

(from my notes:) Basically Laito convinces himself to be a “cuckhold.” It’s definitely implied how he just wants approval from Cordelia; this is how this abuse prolongs.

(Also, if I ever said that Laito was locked up by Cordelia, my bad; it was Karlheinz who gave that order. I’m unsure where I ever said this, but I feel like I said it before, so I’m gonna clarify that right now too, oops! My memory hath failed me.)

Cordelia’s praise effects Laito in such a visceral way that he tries so hard to cope with the trauma in her favor. It’s incredibly messed up. But that’s the defining factor in this. From this, I do believe Laito has Stockholm syndrome on top of all of his issues.

Working at the reference desk was cool. When you walked through the main door of the library, you’d never suspect that nestled beyond the rows and rows of adult nonfiction, far away from the busyness of the community room or the chaos of the children’s section, was a neat and well-tended desk, behind which sat just one man.

That one man was currently alternating between scanning the sea of tables and chairs in front of him, and reading a cheesy romance paperback under his desk. Listen, he had an image to maintain, okay?

Virgil had always liked the solitude of a good library, almost as much as he’d liked the books themselves. Despite spending many long hours hidden away among dusty shelves when he was younger, he'd never thought about actually working in a library. He wasn’t a people person, and libraries, unfortunately, tended to attract people; so when he found out there was a position where he could get away with isolating himself behind a computer monitor all day long, where his main form of social interaction was helping patrons fix the printer approximately nine hundred times a day, where he could read or play Temple Run or just sit still and daydream for hours on end? He was sold.

He supposed he had to thank the library’s set up for his lack of work; truly, most people never made their way this far into the building, and those who did were usually just looking for a place to sleep for a few hours, so it wasn’t uncommon for him to go an entire shift without speaking to a single person.

It had looked like today was going to be the same, with Virgil halfway through his shift and having only spoken to one patron who was looking for the bathroom. He had just gotten to the part in his book where the farmhand and the farmer’s son were trapped together in the barn during an unexpected thunderstorm, shirts dripping wet and faces flushed from humidity and passion (and maybe Virgil had read this one once or twice already, don’t worry about it).

It was a perfectly normal day. Until the kid showed up.

“Excuse me, sir?”

Virgil certainly did not jump about a foot into the air at the kid’s sudden appearance, but it was a close thing. The librarian quickly sat up in his rolly chair, dog earring the already well-worn novel and shoving it back under the desk.

“Uh, hi,” he replied, gazing down at the child in front of him. He was small and scrawny, with wildly scruffy hair and a large pair of glasses on his face. As Virgil sat up taller, he was able to see that the kid was actually tiny, his chin barely reaching past the edge of the desk. Despite his small stature, he had an oddly serious look on his face.

“How can I, uh, help you?” Virgil asked haltingly.

“I need to find a book about baby names,” the child informed him plainly. His quiet, high-pitched voice felt completely at odds with the grave importance he seemed to place on his request.

“Oh?” Virgil said for lack of a better response. He quickly scanned behind the kid, looking for an adult that might’ve misplaced their incredibly somber toddler, but he quickly brought his attention back to the child in front of him as he nodded.

“My dads told me that I’m going to be a big brother soon and I need to find the names for my baby twin brothers who we are taking from a woman in the city because she is a sugar-ette and she is giving us her babies to keep,” the child replied in one long breath. Virgil blinked at the sudden influx of information.

“Ah,” he replied, absolutely nailing this conversation with this random, unaccompanied baby. “Let me… look that up for you.”

He paused for just a second before jerkily turning on his monitor, opening to the library catalogue’s search engine. Instinctively he opened the filter and clicked ‘search for keywords’ and typed ‘baby names’, until he looked down at the… really small child in front of him, like damn, were all kids that small?

“Um. How…”

How old are you? How many letters of the alphabet do you know? How stupid am I gonna look if I send you to the checkout desk with an armful of dense, high-level books about etymology?

“How high is your reading level?” he settled on. To his surprise, the child puffed out his chest in pride.

“I am five and three quarters years old and I will be going into kindergarten in Set-member and Dr. Picani says that I am reading like a kindergartener and I even can read first grade books, too.”

Okay. Virgil didn’t know who Dr. Picani was, but that wasn’t important. Kindergarten to first grade reading level. He switched the filter to adjust for that new information, but he was quickly met with the realization that the kid was looking at him for… some sort of response, because that’s how conversations work, Virgil, come on.

“That’s cool,” he replied lightly. Lucky for him, the kid didn’t seem to mind his lack of social graces. He just nodded, rocking back and forth on his heels as he watched Virgil type.

“And my Daddy gave me a bunch of chapter books for my birthday and I already read them all because that was last year and he and Papa said that for my next birthday I can get some more chapter books but I hope they are mit-sery books because I like the mit-sery books most of all. Dr. Picani told me that’s because I like to collect and organize information. I like it when Papa reads the mit-sery books to me, even though I can read all by myself, because he is always bad at solving the mit-sery and I have to explain it to him every time.”

At first, Virgil had merely been listening with a polite interest, nodding a little as his eyes scanned the page for what books they had checked in, but as the kid continued to talk (and Virgil was seriously starting to wonder if he ever ran out of breath), he realized he was now listening with a genuine interest. This kid seemed pretty smart for his age, even with his tendency to mispronounce words in his rush to get them out of his mouth, and it was honestly kinda endearing. This coming from Virgil, who was running out of excuses as to why he couldn’t help out with any of the children’s programs that the library hosted in the community room twice a month.

He pulled his eyes back to his computer. “Okay, so, um, it looks like we’ve got a couple books that you might want.” They had more than a couple books about baby names, of course, but Virgil really didn’t wanna hurt the kid’s feelings by giving him a book that was too difficult for him.

“I’m gonna write the titles down on this piece of paper,” Virgil continued, pulling out an index card and one of the weird tiny golf pencils that were at every desk in the library for some reason. “Here’s what the book is called, here’s the last name of the person who wrote it, and here is the number of the shelf where you can find the book, okay?”

He finished writing and slid the paper across the desk to the kid, who hesitated for a moment before taking it.

“... Thank you,” he said stiffly, turning on his heel and marching away. Virgil wasn’t gonna look away until the kid was out of his sight, but to his surprise he stopped just about ten feet away from the desk, looking between the paper in his tiny hands and the tall rows of shelves.

Virgil stood up suddenly, feeling like an idiot. He’d just told an infant to go look for one specific shelf in a giant room of identical shelves. Alone. Fuck.

“Hey, kid,” he called softly, moving around his desk and hurrying to the child. The little boy turned to him, eyes wide behind his glasses lens.

“How about I help you find those books, okay?” Virgil asked, trying not to tower over the tiny child. The kid looked around for a second before nodding quickly.

“Okay, I think that is a good idea, because I know where the books are in the playzone but I think this li-berry is really big and— and maybe I’d get too lost and my dads are scared of me being lost and so I don’t wanna make them scared,” he finished, looking down and scuffing the toe of his shoe against the carpet.

Virgil raised an eyebrow at the end of the kid’s sentence. “Do you know where your dads are?”

The kid nodded quickly. “They’re having storytime in the group room!”

Virgil nodded. He knew there was an adult book club happening in the community room that day, so that definitely made sense. But still, he leaned down, catching the boy’s eye with what he hoped was an appropriately stern face for the circumstances.

“Do your dads know where you are?” he asked. As he expected, the kid began to look slightly guilty, scrunching the hem of his navy polo in his hands.

“Um…” he started. It was the first time Virgil had heard him pause between his words. “Well, technically, they told me to stay with the li-berrian, and they thought I was gonna stay in the playzone with Ms. Dot, but technically, if I can stay with you then I am with a li-berrian and so I’m not in trouble.”

There was a note of self-satisfaction in the kid’s voice, like he’d just solved a riddle as opposed to trying to explain why he disobeyed his parents. Virgil got the feeling that this was a kid who knew how to use his words to his advantage.

“Okay,” Virgil replied, gently pulling the paper out of the kid’s hand and scanning what he’d written. “We’re gonna go look for some books, but then I’m taking you back to the children’s section— uh, I mean the playzone— and Ms. Dot is gonna watch you until your dads are done, deal?”

The child nodded, watching Virgil with intensity, and the librarian gently ushered him to the side and led the two of them down a row of books.

“What’s your name?”

“Logan,” the little boy replied, running ahead a little and turning to wait for Virgil to catch up. “What’s your name?”

Virgil reached Logan at the end of the row just as he answered, “Virgil.”

Without warning, Logan darted ahead again, reaching the end of the next row before turning around to face him. “Daddy says I should call the li-berrians Mr., Ms., or Mx. What are you?”

“Mr. is okay,” Virgil replied, a little bemused by his childish bluntness. “And be careful, okay? I don’t want you to trip and hurt yourself.”

Logan trotted back to Virgil, walking backwards for a minute so he could look at Virgil while he talked. “I’m sorry for running, but I really want to find a book about baby names because my dads are busy making the babies’ bedroom and buying all of the baby clothes and toys and ex-cetera and I want to be a good big brother and I want my baby brothers to have names that are good but my dads are really busy and they don’t even know what they want to name the babies yet!”

Virgil smiled at the indignation in Logan’s little voice. Of course, he knew there were far more important preparations to make when expecting a new child (let alone two new children at the same time), but to a child as young as Logan, the name was probably the most important decision to be made.

“Well, they should be on the next shelf over, so let’s—”

Logan took off before Virgil could finish his sentence, running halfway down the row and looking at Virgil expectantly.

Virgil scoffed, an amused smile on his face. “Yeah, yeah, I’m coming.”

As he entered the row, he began scanning the numbers on instinct; he knew these stacks pretty well, but he didn’t have them memorized.

“Okay, 929.4,” he muttered to himself, bypassing books about genealogies before coming to the section for baby name books. “Here they are.”

Logan came towards him, standing on his tiptoes as he reached his arms up high.

“Mr. Virgil, may I please have the biggest book, please?”

Virgil looked back at the shelf, immediately seeing which book Logan was talking about. He pulled it out, holding it in both hands as he scanned the cover.

“‘Ten Thousand and One Baby Names For You’,” he recited, passing it down to Logan. “Is that enough names to choose from?”

Logan’s eyes were wide, struggling to open the heavy book while still keeping it in his arms. “I never even knew there were ten thousand and one names!”

“Same,” Virgil replied, helping Logan open the book without damaging it. “I think this book has lots of names from all over the world, plus some super old names from the last century.”

“Like the 1990s,” Logan said, nodding seriously, and Virgil had to pretend to cough to avoid laughing outright at the kid’s earnestness. He turned back to the shelf, pulling out a thinner yet still dense book.

“And this one is called ‘The Story Behind the Name’,” Virgil explained, holding it down to show Logan. “It tells you more about what the names mean, where all of the names came from… stuff like that.”

He held the book out for Logan to take, but to his shock the child was looking at him with something akin to distress.

“Do names mean things?”

Virgil blinked. “Oh! Uh, sometimes? Not really. But some names have things that they used to mean, a long time ago, but a lot of people don’t know what they meant. Like—”

He hastily flipped the book open to the ‘L’ section, skimming the page before he found what he was looking for.

“Like, ‘Logan’, for example, is an Scottish name,” he explained slowly, “and it apparently means… uh, ‘from the hollow’? Which, I don’t even really know what that means, so. It’s not that important nowadays.”

He looked back at Logan, who was looking into the distance with a pensive look on his face.

“But what if I give them a name that means something bad,” he pondered slowly, and Virgil’s stomach swooped at the idea that he’d just given this kid something to worry over.

“Well, here,” he said hurriedly, holding the second book out to Logan. “If you take this one, you can check that the names you pick mean good things. Some people like to choose names that remind them of something good, like nature or history or— or their favorite book characters.”

That perked Logan up, causing him to eye the book with a new interest. “Really?”

His gaze flicked between the second book, and the much larger book that he still held in his arms.

“I think I should take both,” he said after a long moment to think. “Just in case.”

He smiled up at Virgil, who literally couldn’t stop himself from smiling back if you’d paid him. Logan was just too darn cute.

“Well,” he said, “how about I carry your books and take you back to the playzone, and you can get started reading these before you check them out?”

Logan nodded, somewhat reluctantly handing Virgil his large book as the two made their way out of the nonfiction section. “That is a good idea, because I am already checking out a lot of chapter books and my book basket is full and so I think my dads will help me carry these books to the checkout counter because they’re really big books.”

“They sure are,” Virgil said conversationally, holding a hand out to stop Logan as another librarian walked by with a cart. Before he could take another step, however, he felt something small and soft wrap around his free hand. Virgil looked down to see Logan holding his hand in his own tiny grasp.

“Papa says I shouldn’t hold hands with strangers,” Logan informed him, idly swinging their hands together, “but I don’t think we’re strangers because I know your name and you know my name and you’re helping me carry my books because you are a nice li-berrian.”

Virgil felt an inexplicable surge of protectiveness over this child he’d met only fifteen minutes ago.

“Sure,” he replied softly, letting Logan continue to talk as the two walked hand in hand back to the populated side of the library.

He almost didn’t want to interrupt Logan when they did finally arrive at the playzone, but he wanted to make sure this kid got back to where he was supposed to be before his dads found out he’d left. Dot looked at him from behind Logan, her eyebrows raising at the sight of Virgil a) not behind his reference desk, and b) attached to the world’s chattiest five year old.

“Hey, Lo,” he gently interjected when Logan took a breath, kneeling down to be on the young boy’s level. “I’m gonna set your books down with your book basket, okay? Where is that?”

Logan paused, eyes flitting around the colorful rug. “Um… it’s… oh! It’s right there!”

Virgil’s eyes followed where Logan was pointing. There, on the ground next to one of the large plush sofas in the reading circle, was one of the library’s book baskets. From here, Virgil could see at least a dozen junior chapter books poking out of the basket.

“Oh!” Logan exclaimed, darting forward and grabbing the handle of the basket in both hands and tugging it back over to Virgil. “Mr. Virgil, look, I raised my hand and asked Ms. Dot if I could please have the storytime book to check out for a little bit because I liked it a lot, even though it’s not a mit-sery book, but it is about cephalopods and those are octopusses and squids and ex-cetera, and she told me to turn around and the shelf behind me had tons and tons of books about cephalopods, and I picked out this book because it has pit-chers but it’s not a pit-cher book, it has chapters, too—”

Logan flopped onto his butt in the middle of the carpet, pulling out each book one by one and explaining to Virgil exactly what it was about and how many chapters it had and how he couldn’t wait for bedtime so he and his dads could read them all together. He chattered on and on and on, and Virgil didn’t even realize when he joined Logan in sitting cross legged on the floor. He didn’t have to talk much, but every now and then Logan would actually pause to breathe, and Virgil would ask another question that set the young boy off onto an entirely different spiel that lasted another ten minutes.

It was so different from working at the reference desk, quiet and hidden and isolated. Different, but not bad.

“Mr. Virgil?”

Logan’s voice was suddenly quieter, and it snapped Virgil back to reality. He looked at the kid, who was looking at his own tiny hands folded neatly in his lap.

“Yeah, Logan?” Virgil asked. “Are you okay?”

Logan nodded. “Yes, thank you, I’m okay. I think you are maybe the nicest li-berrian ever.”

The sincerity in his little voice nearly made Virgil reel back in shock.

“Really?” he asked, and normally he might be embarrassed about how insecure his voice sounded after receiving a compliment from a five year old, but Logan nodded immediately.

“Yeah,” he replied. “Ms. Dot and all of the other li-berrians are nice but I think you are the nicest because I broke the rules and you didn’t tell my dads and you gave me the name books for my twin baby brothers and you let me hold your hand and I like talking about my books and you liked hearing me talk about them. So I think you are— I think you are the best li-berrian I ever met.”

Logan fell silent, looking down at his lap and fidgeting with his shirt hem, and Virgil was honestly a little speechless.

“Oh,” he said slowly. “Um, thank you, Logan. I think you are… the best reader I’ve ever met.”

No sooner were the words out of Virgil’s mouth that Logan looked up at him with wide-eyed shock.

“Really?” he squeaked. Virgil was literally going to get a cavity from all of this sugar.

“Yep,” he replied. “You’re smart and kind and you care a lot about your baby brothers. Your dads must be very proud of you.”

Each word of praise was brightening Logan up bit by bit, and he switched to sitting on his knees and bouncing up and down.

“Will you play checkers with me?” he asked, hands flapping in excitement. “I always want to play checkers but Ms. Dot says I’m not old enough, but you’re definitely old enough, right?”

Virgil laughed outright at that. He thought about his reference desk, sitting unoccupied on the other side of the library. He looked at Logan.

“Sure, kid,” he replied, standing up with Logan’s book basket. Logan grabbed his free hand, and Virgil let him lead them both to the game table, Logan already explaining the rules in anticipation.

Yeah. Different, but not bad. Not bad at all.

For everyone it applies to in the Obey Me verse: What is their favorite position? Sort of inspired by my cuddle position ask, but also inspired by your headcanons for their dom/sub/top/bottom statuses.

I actually had to go back and reread my own post bc I am a jumbo dumbass.

I’m going to assume you mean sexual position, so here goes. I think they’re all too esoteric to be strictly dom/sub and bottom/top, though. So prepare for trouble, and make it double. I didn’t do everyone cause like,,,,,,, no thoughts head empty, so i hope you don’t mind just 7.5 characters.

Lucifer:

Bottoming: Though I doubt he’d let just anyone top him, I get the sense that if he was getting railed by someone he’s not super emotionally attached to yet he’d be more inclined to still be in control. He might prefer riding someone, if he’s wanting to still be dictating pace etc. But with someone he’s subbing for, I think he’s a pillow princess ngl. Partially to hide his face/muffle his sounds since we KNOW this guy doesn’t have as much self-control as he thinks, partially bc he just wants some stress relief and relaxing on his stomach with a comfy pillow while he gets his whole pelvis destroyed it a great way to unwind. We know this guy is probably down for just about anything, at least once. Any position is good with him honestly. But he does have favorites.

Bottoming: He would like to be picked up and sat down on something so he can wrap his legs around his partner. This can be a pretty versatile position too, because he can lay on his back and/or push his partner’s head down to hip level if he’s feeling a bit bratty. I’m sure he can get much more creative with the possibilities than me, some guy writing this at 7 am while waiting for his breakfast burrito to cool. But the real appeal for him is getting manhandled. We know he’d love it. If his partner can’t lift him, he’ll hop up on the kitchen counter/table/dresser/etc himself and pull them in. Win-win.

Topping: Any position where he can show off his moves. Of which he has many. He also likes any position where his hands are free to roam all over his partner’s body (and make good use of his knowledge of all sorts of sensitive places one might have). Honestly there’s just too many to choose from and just thinking “there’s too many to choose from” has made me imagine Asmo on his phone scrolling some knockoff kama sutra app while his partner is waiting for him to decide how they fuck.

Bottoming: Probably more than happy to bottom, because one he’s very inclined to please his partner, two he’s much less likely to misjudge his own strength, three he gets to lay back and be indulged with as much dick as he likes. Gluttony does not extend only to food, people. ;) ANYWAY BACK TO POSITIONS: He’s quite happy to lay on his stomach and let his partner go to town on him while he bites down on a pillow (probably ripping it to shreds and getting feathers/stuffing EVERYWHERE). Topping: Honestly? Two modes. Soft service top, simple missionary style. Or gluttony time, where he just indulges in his partner until they’re both exhausted, probably in a nice reverse of the pillow biting from the previous section.

Bottoming: Pillow prince. Listen to me. PILLOW. PRINCE. Lazy as fuck, honestly. Just wants to lay back and get railed. Or lay on his stomach and hold onto a pillow so he can immediately go to sleep when his partner is trying to clean him up. Lazy motherfucker. He does get bratty though, and dragging him up to his hands and knees so he has to hold his own weight is an excellent way to get him to either shut up or complain more.

Topping: Depends. Also has two modes: Lazy top who’s more inclined to let his partner put forth all of the effort or (hoo hoo get ready for animal motif jokes) an absolute bullride. Really depends on how tired he is at the time and how much he’s been teased. Either way, I suspect he likes his partner to ride him so that 1; he doesn’t have to put forth as much effort and 2: he can still hold onto them and maybe pull them close if he’s feeling soft and cozy.

Diavolo:

Bottoming: Just about any position, honestly. Man craves being topped. As long as he’s getting fucked (and preferably getting some rough treatment at the same time) he’s happy.

Topping: I’m too much of a top to answer this one and my only thoughts about diavolo include him being a bottom, sorry mate

rusty lake vk findings

as the honorary bdg of this fandom (apparently) i had to go rooting around for more Discoveries, and had found this crawl of hidden content on the fandomwiki trivia section of arles (which i have discussed before & made fanart of that didn’t get put in the tags still, sadface) (also why aint that page in any other trivia section, fandomwiki writers get on it ! !). since i had nothing better to do, i decided to go through every post on the vk; most of it was fanart, contests and people freaking out over seeing anthro animals or god forbid a silhouette, but there were some interesting things. note most of the following are just devscreens that may have been shared here around the time they were posted in the vk, but they’re new to me.

- paradox originally did have a shrimp item (another one for the bingo), as well as what appears to be a shotglass, but could just be an early version of the glass cube or, idk, a piece of paper. there also doesn’t seem to be a slot for a globe key? but i don’t remember where said key goes in the final release so i can’t conclude much myself

- high res trees thank the lord

- but seriously what are gerard and nicholas wearing. no comment on david’s hat. or elizabeth’s new principle of showing no skin below the neck

- i swear i’ve seen that gerard before but i have zero idea where

- the weirder thing is the 2nd shot was posted after another gif of the final owl-shrine-leech-blood-thing, so either they changed it back or that shot was just taken earlier. or there were multiple. euu

- different well design! well in the middle of the damn woods without a cube-dropper! no caroline shrine! a dock! you can see these things but it’s worth mentioning them!

- if you’re wondering the meme is just along the lines of ‘girlfriend: my family isn’t weird’ ‘her family:’

- james has no chair lol. also the fireplace looks cleaner, maybe

- the initial choice for tarot cards (presumably in ida’s level because of the red background, unlike the wooden table in the lying game) included the world and temperance, though since only five are shown i can’t say what cards specifically replaced them. fandomwiki doesn’t mention either of these cards in association with any vanderboom, nor do i have a clue which vanderboom could be associated with them but feel free to drop ur theories :3

- there’s also no markings for where to place the cards and a slightly modified drawin of samuel, so presumably the puzzle in that level was. pretty different. or they had yet to develop that but the sam pic implies otherwise

- sometime between roots and paradox they switched to macbooks, which i’d love to judge them for but that’s rude and i love them

- fun fact the 2nd is a crop & there are pages below it but it’s just character references, including betafrank will! i think! i didn’t save the full tho & i don’t wanna go back through 30+ pages to get it

- wip shots for the roots paintin! not much to speculate on here but it’s cool

- what’s more capable-of-being-speculated-on is this painting from the background of a dev screen, seemingly painted by the same guy as roots whose name i cannot remember for the life of me, but reverse image search doesn’t find anything for me. if anyone knows more about this painting let me know, it’s probably not anything rusty lake related but i’m just curious

- im sure y’all have seen this i just thought it was funny. david on that king shit. i do think that crown is a unique asset though, which is weird cause they had like two other crowns they could use (from rose in the ball & albert eating shit) but whatever suits them i spose

If my partner needs a rough road map, I’m happy to negotiate what we’d each like to see happen. Generally speaking I let Bazz-B take the wheel.

WHEN A PARTNER DROPS THE THREAD, DO YOU WISH TO KNOW?: YES / NO / DEPENDS. - And why?: If you want to drop a thread, I’m completely fine with it. The only reason I’d want to know is so I don’t start panicking and think that I forgot to reply you your latest response to it.

WHY DO YOU RP AGAIN, IS THERE A GOAL?: To tell a story. Bazz-B is my primary muse, and his entire tale is so interesting to me. The foundations of his identity are flawed and I want to explore that as much a I can, throw him into as many situations as possible and watch him evolve.

WISHLIST, BE IT PLOTS OR SCENARIOS: My left arm for an entire roster of Sternritter, of course. Bazz-B and Liltotto surviving after the war. A reality where Bazz-B finds happiness and acceptance in himself. A healthy bond with a Shinigami.

THEMES I WON’T EVER RP / EXPLORE: I’ll not write rape, it’s understandably triggering for a lot of people and writing it glorifies it, I think. Also racism in a real world setting? I’ve come to terms with it in regards to Shinigami and Arrancar, but they’re fictional groups. I wont engage with it outside of that. Finally, trans-phobia. If a guy like Bazz-B doesn’t engage with that sort of vile nonsense, none of you should either.

WHAT TYPE OF STARTERS DO YOU PREFER / DISLIKE, CAN’T WORK WITH?: Starters that provide a setting and a purpose are great. The sort of starter that turns it back at the recipient with something akin to “Why are you here” are confining. Also, if in the starter your muse is already pushing away mine.. Bazz-B might just nope outta there.

WHAT TYPE OF CHARACTERS CATCH YOUR INTEREST THE MOST?: Despite my main muse being Bazz-B (or perhaps in favour of it) I typically write as old men cemented deeply in their ways. Yamamoto Genryuusai Shigekuni, King Baraggan Louisenbairn and Ichibei Hyosube are just some examples. Bazz-B kinda fits the bill too.. I GUESS.

WHAT TYPE OF CHARACTERS CATCH YOUR INTEREST THE LEAST?: Cold, distant, dispassionate sorts. I could never write as the likes of Ishida, Ulquiorra, Haschwalth, etc. They’re all very nuanced characters, they just don’t mesh well with me.

WHAT ARE YOUR STRONG ASPECTS AS RP PARTNER?: I typically respond lightning fast, my last two weeks or so a poor example of that. I’m passionate, you’ll not find another person so desperately in love with Bazz-B as this fool. I’m easy-going, you can take as long as you want and I’ll still be ready to rumble.

WHAT ARE YOUR WEAK ASPECTS AS RP PARTNER?: Tumblr confuses the hell out of me, I don’t understand a lot of lingo and the big CARDINAL LAWS of writing. I struggle with scene transitioning and limb placement, and my tags are a mess.

- WHEN DO YOU RP SMUT? MORE OUT OF FUN OR CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT?: What I want and what Bazz-B want are wildly different things. This man is planting a flag in the middle of bonezone whether I agree or not. I commonly write smut because it’s what Bazz-B wants, but I prefer to do it for development.

- ANYTHING YOU WOULD NOT WANT TO RP THERE?: I am personally the most vanilla dude you’ll meet. I can google things but it might not translate very well.

ARE SHIPS IMPORTANT TO YOU?: YES / NO A characters growth should never be locked to a specific person, but exploring a character in isolation can only get you so far. As people, we grow from one another. Romance is a key factor in formulating a person’s ideals, but that’s no the only form of ship. The eventual friendship between Bazz-B and Liltotto and Giselle is one of the most interesting things to me. A romance surviving Silbern is incredibly powerful in my opinion. The bond of a teacher and a student. There are so many situations that force a character to change how they would typically react.

WOULD YOU SAY YOUR BLOG IS SHIP-FOCUSED?: YES / NO. More and more I’ve been thinking that I’ve been writing Bazz-B in more ships, but that is not the blog’s focus. Ultimately I’m exploring the character of Bazz-B, and that just happens to be inclusive of ships. Some of my most active writing partners also happen to be muses that Bazz-B has excitedly/begrudgingly/unexpectedly fallen for.

But he’s more than just a hothead, you can read any one of my many rants if you wanna find out about that. With a plot to kill God spanning 1000 years, a burning fury and misguided ideals dragged through the mud of “the lesser of two evils”, he’s a real party trick.

- WITH WHAT TYPE OF MUSES DO YOU USUALLY STRUGGLE TO RP WITH?: Muses who, from the start, wish to disengage with Bazz-B. I understand it might be in character, but both Bazz-B and I are gonna struggle to engage if there’s not some allowances made.

- WHAT DO THEY DESIRE, IS THEIR GOAL?: His ultimate goal is the death of Yhwach. In a perfect world that would coexist with a Quincy victory over the Shinigami, vengeance for genocide. But he’ll take the former over the latter.

Do you prefer to read, write or watch TV/Movies? (Or rank them in order of preference!) I love all of them! watching TV and movies is definitely the easiest and probably the one I do most since I don’t have to think about it but I still absolutely adore reading and writing

What was the last song you specifically looked up to listened to? I’m actually not sure because I usually just shuffle whatever playlist I’m feeling but potentially Don’t Lose Your Head from SIX because I frequently want to listen to that

What was your first pet growing up? What was their name? If you didn’t have one, what did you want? I actually don’t know which pet came first, I’ve had a lot in my life but the first would have either been one of the fish or one of the rabbits. The first of those I really don’t remember the names of because tbh I think some of them might have been gotten before I was born. The first whose names I remember though were a rabbit named Elmo and a Guinea Pig named Moley.

Do you like where you live? If so, what’s your favorite part of it? If not, where would you like to live? I live 2 places at the moment I guess and I actually really like both of them. Nottingham is really different from what I’m used to at home since it’s a big city and I grew up in a village and now live in a small town. Idk what it is about it but I actually enjoy being there unlike other big cities like London. Where my I guess main home is is really nice as well. We live right by a load of woods and fields and you can go on really nice walks. We also live near the sea so that’s nice and it’s also quiet where our house is but it’s not that far to get into the town so all in all it’s a really nice place to live even if maybe the town as a whole wouldn’t be considered one of the better places to live in the UK. We’re also only a couple hours from London so that’s handy.

[ insert every single character here ] Clarke and Bellamy. Clarke lost me very early season 3 and Bellamy is dead to me as of season 6. I’m throwing Miller in here- when he was that delinquent that wears the beanie I could go for that, but now i’m just straight up annoyed by his presence and want him to go away forever. My reluctant liking of Abby turned sour pretty fast, too. Arming a group of children and sending them out into a warzone to find your daughter, then abandoning them once she’s back is really SOMETHING. And hitting Raven while she’s acting Chancellor…i should beat your ass, Abby

a character i’m indifferent about

Wells: poor treatment of MoC and very valid anger aside, truely I don’t see the facination and borderline obsession fandom has with the character himself- he barely existed. Are you all in love with the idea of him, rather? Or the guy from the book? He was literally in this thing for three episodes, we never actually knew him, nor was he even given the chance to develop or have any sort of story. I see so so much hate about Echo and her lack of development and yet in the same breath y’all are talking about missing Wells and oh what a wonderful character he was. Spare me. He was a character full to the brim with potential and unfortunately that’s all he’ll ever be.

Anya and Lexa, too. I don’t really have opinions formed on either of them, nor do I really care to

a character who deserved better

I mean with that minor Wells rant aside and half a step into my hypocrisy boots…Wells did. Lol. I think he absolutely deserved better than to be killed off in order to push a white woman’s story forwards. I think he deserved better than to have been all about Clarke, his entire character about serving her character, even in death. This show has a history of criminally underusing/sideling/killing their most compelling characters, i think Wells would’ve been such a fun addition to the main band, i wonder how his personality would’ve expanded, what could his arcs have looked like? i think about how his dynamics would form and fair, what might he think of Clarke now?

Jasper deserved better than to have become a nihilist’s wet dream. I have mixed feelings about the whole thing, i really do. The creators, some of the fans even, chat about how it’s a gritty reality, sometimes it’s just Like That, and in some ways that’s absolutely right, but in a show of such loss to have this bleak ending for a character like this is just…a bit of an overkill? What’s wrong with hopeful endings? I mean we literally already had a similar scenario occur with Luna a mere episode(s) before. A woman who strives for nothing more than peace loses her faith in humanity and so fights for death. Why they felt the need to kick a dead horse by doing the same thing with Jasper is beyond me.

Listen many character have demonstrated suicidal tendancies at some point or another: Clarke, Murphy, Bellamy, Octavia, Harper and so on, but Jasper is the only one that gets the actual suicide? The character who’s canon mental illness has been more on the explicit and expressed side, the first victim of the ground, the very character who we’ve watched struggle his way through four seasons with an inconsistent or otherwise absent support system, his story ended with suicide. It’s devastating and, frankly, disrespectful. As if he was too far gone to find his way back into the light.

We saw clearly Monty’s reactions to Jasper’s death, but we didn’t see him grieve- he was busy rushing to survive the end of the world. This show loves sidestepping the consiquences of big events they write- there’s always a new threat to face which means everyone gets to move on abnormally quickly. Nobody asked about Jasper in Becca’s lab, we never actually saw anyone except for Clarke find out about this, nobody in the bunker either, not Octavia, and no mentions of Jasper in season five besides Monty begging him to be wrong about humanity. This show isn’t great with handling their deceased either. They want to focus on a fresh plot and not be stuck dragging around that dead weight. Finn isn’t mentioned in relation to Raven despite his importance to her story and of the fact this specific death shook the whole show. Wells’ has been removed from memory despite Clarke being the protagonist who we should know most intimately. I feel most detached from her, honestly. We’ve had a fair amount of Lincoln, though, and a consistantly aggressive reaffirmal of Lexa’s existence. But Jasper just isn’t here. He isn’t talked about. Jasper suffered, and Monty was right there in front of him trying to hand him that peaceful life he always dreamed of, ready to lift him (literally) out of that pain, and he died. Harper got to change her mind last minute, so did Raven, but not Jasper, no, his body went up in flames with the rest of it. The way they filmed the scene was gut-wrenching because of the hopelessness and coldness of it all. And i think he deserved to be spacekru, to heal somewhat up there, and oh what fun would he have been in season five. What would he be like now? What would he think of what became of everyone else? Of Clarke and of Octavia? Again, such wasted potential.

Jasper was one of The 100 on a show named after them, his death brought that to 4, and i can’t emphasise to you enough how big a mistake it was to craft a show around a certain group of people and then abandon that idea entirely. Your show is named something that it isn’t even about!!

Lexa deserved a more respectful death.

Bellamy deserved better than to be murdered brutally by the writers during season 6.

my first thoughts on the show

It was exactly what i was looking for; a post-apoc teen drama, a little corny, a little gritty. I enjoyed season 1, and then 2, but with the constantly rising stakes to absolutely obscene levels eventually, my interest dwindled. By season 4 there was an almost desolate feeling and all the potential this had was dead and buried. They could’ve gone so many ways, done so much more, but for reasons unknown they chose possibly the weirdest and least interesting route available. I really thought they’d exhausted all their story by the end of 4 and i was, of course, absolutely correct since s5 was…more of the same…a literal recycled storyline that had been done not once but twice before it. In season 1 and then again in season 2. Since joining tumblr and fandom and seeing things from a various new angles, reading of social implications and meta on how sections of the writing are flawed, i’ve crafted a more informed and complex opinion than i had as a casual viewer and now see most aspects of the show in a completely different light.

my thoughts now

I’m over it. I think it could be safe to say i hate what it became. Most of my opinions of it now are negative, or at the very least have a critical component to them. I haven’t genuienly enjoyed it since season four and it hasn’t been actually decent since season two. It has a lot of deeper issues engrained into it’s writing, and there was a before when you could criticise those choices and obvious flaws and still be able to enjoy the show as it’s own entity because it existed as one at that time. But now it feels like an empty shell void of all life. With how broken and goofy the writing has become i just can’t take it seriously anymore. Characterisation and consistency have been thrown out in favour of serving the plot many many times before, but season 6 brought this to a whole new low. Dialogue was clumsy and there was a LOT of information dumping, it focused much too heavily on new characters nobody cared about, things were swinging from one extreme to another in terms of character arcs (see: Octavia’s full redemption and transformation basically overnight, and Bellamy switching from set to commit genocide in Clarke’s honour and ‘[we let these people die because] it’s not my fault their delusional’ to ‘let’s do better for Monty i am suddenly King of morality’) and in relationships (see: Bellamy instantly forgiving Clarke and then abandoning everyone and everything to save her, meanwhile he’s demonising Octavia like he’s getting paid for it). The characters just aren’t people anymore, they’re wheels that move the plot forward (in any way that’s required regardless of whether or not it’s actually in line with canon), and let’s not even talk about the science that pushes the envelope too far and Clarke’s insane plot armour. I’ve beaten this rant to death at this point so I won’t get any more into it. But just know: what was once a genuine fondness of this show has turned poisonous since.

“Well, my darlin’, first n’ foremost I wanna get it outta the way that I ain’t a trans boy myself n’ my word ought not be taken as law on it cause I can’t speak from firsthand experience. Speakin’ t’ someone else who is n’ has gone through the same thing will always be better n’ what I can offer.

That said though, sounds on par with a lot o’ the unfortunate feelin’s that dysphoria brings. I know that bein’ perceived as a gender you ain’t by a boy you like would feel pretty devastatin’, not even t’ mention any issues if that boy didn’t previously think of himself as bein’ attracted to men. From my understandin’, a lot o’ trans men stop themselves from doin’ things they wanna do cause their bodies don’t align with who they are. I’m not gonna talk like it ain’t easier said than done, but not bein’ able to present yourself in a masculine way still shouldn’t hold ya back from pursuin’ relationships or make you feel like you can’t find someone special just cause of somethin’ like appearance.

Maybe if your school or workplace ain’t too conservative t’ run risk of y’all gettin�� into trouble n’ word gettin’ our to your mom, maybe you could come out at least to your friends, maybe someone you’re interested in too? If nothin’ else, it would at least get the word out there that you’re a boy n’ oughta be perceived as such. That’d certainly let y’all find out which boys’re interested in a same sex relationship n’ which ones ain’t gonna turn out t’ be bigots. People who haven’t got to transition yet— hell, people who choose not to transition— can have healthy, happy relationships same as anybody else! You find the right boy n’ he’ll be there for ya no matter how long it takes for y’all t’ get to where you’re happy with the way you look.

Y’all might even try doin’ some little things if you think it’d help y’all be more comfortable— buy a few things from the men’s section n’ add ‘em to your wardrobe, or pick things that’re more unisex from the women’s section if your mom is always around. Might see if you’d be able t’ get a haircut that looks more masculine. If you got longer hair at the moment , y’ might be able t’ start with one of the “feminine” short styles n’ once your mom is used to you havin’ short hair, y’all could move on t’ gettin’ it done short in a “masculine” style. Now, if your mom don’t come with you for your haircuts, you can specify outright that you want it cut in a masculine style. Even if you show your stylist a picture of a man’s haircut, it still don’t hurt t’ specify— lots o’ the times stylists gotta make decisions of their own when it comes to photos cause it won’t have all the details or might have a feature that ain’t gonna look right if they get cut just-so. If y’all’re able to get your hair cut short n’ your stylist don’t realize you’re a boy, you might end up with a more feminine cut even if the style picture ya show’s on a man’s head.

Above all though, my dear, don’t put yourself in danger but don’t feel like you’re stuck n’ can’t do nothin’. Remember that you won’t be livin’ with your mom forever n’ will have a time when you can present exactly the way you please without havin’ t’ worry ‘bout her n’ there’ll be people that love you n’ respect your identity even if you’re unable t’ present the way you want right now. You might even look into online dating if that’d feel safer or easier. There’s specifically LGBT+ datin’ sites, or I’ve heard that mainstream OKCupid even has options besides the abysmal “male/female seeking male/female” options that some do.

like... what part of "it's not transphobic to not be attracted to trans people" is transmisogynistic to you? what part of "you need dysphoria to be trans and anyone who doesn't have dysphoria isn't trans" (truscum ideology) is transmisogynistic to you?

Okay, let me break this down for you:

1. The entire “not being attracted to trans people” line? It comes from and is advanced by TERFs. In particular, there’s some very specific wording patterns and tactics that show that origin, because they’re entirely unaltered from the actual-literal-TERF version: The constant shift to making it about the speaker in particular and portraying them as greedy or demanding, making it about how they “don’t wanna date you.” Except... it wasn’t about me. It was never about me. I might be greedy, but for fuck’s sake I have six partners! I’m polysaturated! I never indicated that it was about me in the slightest!

The entire point of this shift is to take it away from the actual societal structural problem, and make it about that greedy trans woman who demands that you date her and fuck her or else you’re a transmisogynist. Zero points for guessing where exactly this caricature comes from, because if you pay attention I just told you.

2. It is about a societal structural problem: Trans women, like a number of marginalized groups, are simultaneously hypersexualized and desexualized by western society. We’re sex objects who exist solely to titillate - but don’t be caught being titillated by us, because everybody knows we’re disgusting and ugly and unfuckable. Expressing our sexuality comes with a significant risk of violence and, for TWOC, murder. Refusing us our own sexual agency, while at the same time rendering us down into sex objects for cis consumption, is oppression. Oppression aimed at trans women in particular is transmisogyny.

3. Trans people, and trans women in particular, are incredibly diverse. We’re all over the world, in every shape and colour you can think of. Literally the only trait that all of us share is that we are trans. So... the only reason you can be ruling us out as a category is because we’re trans. Saying that an entire group of marginalized people is undesirable because of their marginalization is, in fact, bigoted as fuck. Most of tumblr seems to understand that putting “no rice, no beans” in your Grindr profile is fucking racist; why, then, would it not be transmisogynist to say “no trans women, cis women ok?”

(Hint: You’re about to respond with a stereotype that is demonstrably not true of trans women as a category. Don’t do that.)

4. Perhaps you missed the part where the dude in question was literally talking over a trans woman about an oppression she faces but he does not? If this were literally any other combination of “dude who doesn’t experience this oppression” and “marginalized person who does,” would you think it was okay? Because... yeah, that’s an act of active bigotry. What do we call bigotry aimed specifically at trans women again?

5. I’ll end this section on the same question I’ve been asking every time y’all push back on this: Where the fuck do you think all the trans women are? Why exactly do you think we’re not interested in your movement, if it’s so very safe and I’m making all of this up?

(Hint: Trans women are clearly seeing something that makes them want to steer clear. You may want to ask what that is.)

As to the dysphoria part... you’re gonna have to show me where I said that was transmisogynist. (I mean, believing that would have literally killed me, but that’s still not oppression or bigotry aimed at trans women in particular.) It’s blatantly and wildly wrong, as stated by the people who literally defined gender dysphoria in multiple official documents and confirmed by the world’s leading experts on trans people, as well as the world’s leading cis experts on trans people (since I know cis opinions are so very important to the transmed community). So... yeah. It’s wrong but not in itself transmisogynist.

Bruhhh my intro to archaeology class was a joke. Like, I’m well aware that a lot of these intro to anthropology subfield classes aren’t all that serious and they can all be taken to fill gen-ed requirements by literally any undergrad but like,,, I expected more. I held off taking the three-week summer version of this course because I wanted the full semester-long learning experience, but I probably could’ve gotten just as much out of the three weeks which is really unfortunate.

Now, I will say that I am somewhat grateful, at least, that it wasn’t all that rigorous because it allowed me to focus on other classes and such, I suppose, but eh, I still am a bit disappointed :/. I mean, I’m still going to try out the upper level anth classes (I start taking the upper levels next spring, and I’m considering taking part in the academic consortium for my area because apparently one of the nearby unis has an amazing osteology/human anatomical evolution/hominin evolution center thing and I wanna check out a class through that (and like,,, I also want to try to go for the archaeology minor, I just have to see if the one required class will fit into my schedule during the fall of my senior year (like,,,, I’m going to be taking 9 of the required 15 credits during my senior year alone if I go for the minor lol, but it all depends on my ability to get into that one single class which is offered once a year at one specific time with no alternate sections))) including archaeology, but,,, idk. A bit underwhelmed, is all.

Good news though! So for my final humanities project, I’m writing this anthology, right, and one of the episodes I’ve written has too many characters for me to realistically voice them all, so I had to ask in my photo-friend if he’d be interested in doing some voice acting, and we’re doing a recording session this Sunday! Have I procrastinated asking him for a week? Yes! But that is okay, because I did it, and we’ll be recording hopefully with enough time to allow me to properly edit, since we’ll be using our phones instead of nice mics or something. I’ve never worked with an actor before, so this should be fun!!

Also, I’m getting my second vaccine shot tomorrow morning, and I am speaking into existence the fact that I will not get any negative side effects. I simply will not :) I mean, I’ve got an exam tomorrow that I don’t have to take (and the temptation I feel to not take that dang exam is so freaking high), and I’ve got a class at 2 (plus a chem discussion section that I apparently still need to log on for, ugh).

Y’all when I say that I am seriously considering just not taking that exam tomorrow... I am very serious. I would theoretically end up with ~93% in the class bro (assuming I get 13/20 on the most recent homework assignment). And if I do the 10 point extra credit assignment and get all 10 points, I could earn a 97%. That’s an A+ dog. The temptation is strong with this one. I mean it’s not like I’m ever going to go back to this particular prof ever again, I don’t think. And I mean I’ve tested this on the grade calculator thingy on Canvas. It all checks out. Ain’t no reason for me to be doin more work than necessary, right? Right? Or maybe it’s just laziness lol. Probably partly laziness, at least.

Nobody’s gonna know if I don’t.

Even in the syllabus, it says that if you miss an exam, that will simply become the dropped exam.

It wouldn’t even make a difference if I took it, not a substantial one. Especially not if I also do the extra credit.

Well, I think I’ve convinced myself, haven’t I, lol.

It really pays to work hard at the beginning of the semester, don’t it.

Today I’m thankful that I don’t have to take another exam for organismal bio. Like,,,,,,,,,,, I’ve technically got ten lectures or something like that which I’d have to go through (on 2x speed since she talks so slow) because she ~posts them so inconsistently that I haven’t cared enough to keep up with them~ but I mean there’s almost no way that I’d get a grade above a 91% at this point on the exam, and even if I did, I’d get the exact same letter grade overall. Imma work on the extra credit before I head to bed, then I’m not going to worry my sweet little head with this class again <3

Like, don’t get me wrong, the information in the class is interesting. It’s a combination of chemistry and physics and biology conepts in a way that I’ve never experienced before, and y’all know that, at heart, I do enjoy learning new things.

I also need to work on the extra credit for my chem lab. I’m thinking about scripting a tiktok then submitting that as my “creative presentation.”

OH OH ALSO I FINALLY ACTUALLY FINISHED MY BROWN CIRCLE SKIRT!!! Over the weekend, I took out the hem, re-cut the bottom to even it out, and re-sewed the bias tape to it. This morning I finished handsewing, then I ironed everything for neatness. I really like it! It makes me feel like a princess. I need to get some nice trouser hangers with the clips. so I can hang my skirts.

Also, I’m considering buying a wool skirt off depop. It’d be less than $20, shipping included, I’d just need to check the measurements and ensure that I actually have pieces that I can style with it.

Hey Richtor, did you ever post anything in your resources about tips for storing and organizing spells and supplies?

Yo anon.

Most of what I have for storing spells is all about grimoires and the like - compiling them in books or folders or digital archives, etc. I talk about that (how one might organize spells for a grimoire) specifically in [this post].

I’ll try to throw together a quick list of tips for things for you, though, because yeah, don’t see a lot of that.

For spells:

Firstly, decide if it matters to you. Because for some people, they’re happy to flip through their stuff looking for things, but me, I like being able to find what I need when I need it super fast. If you don’t wanna put any time into organization like that, that’s fine, it doesn’t need to be that way; your grimoire, you do you. So decide, first of all, if you care about spells being in a particular order or categorized or whatever, and then go from there.

Me, personally, I try to keep things grouped by intent. So, I try to keep all the protection spells together, followed by cleansing, then banishing, etc. I do it in a order of importance that I find significant; the more “frivolous” spells go in the back of the book, and curses at the very very back. But that’s just my personal preference; you sort (or not sort) however your magical heart desires.

If you want to be able to arrange your spells exactly as you want, a three-ring binder is a good choice; if you want aesthetics for your grimoire, they may not seem the obvious one, but they’re wonderful for their ability to allow the moving of pages to wherever you deem necessary, and also discreet if you need that. There are also those binders that kinda look like sweet magical textbooks, I think they’re on Etsy, if you’ve got a bit of extra budget to spend on something like that. Otherwise, Sharpies and sigils can go a long way to making any book look magical, but that’s an entire other post lmao.

Another good system for storage is loose leaf paper in those accordion folder things. Whatever they’re called. These mother fuckers:

Again, not exactly the best for aesthetic, but super great for easy labelling to find exactly what is where. You can rearrange things at a whim, and not worry about having to tear a page out of a fifty dollar leather-bound book because you misspelled a single word. (Me, I cry.)

For most other books, it could be useful to keep a table of contents somewhere at the front or back, or wherever you can, if you happen to add spells in whatever order you find them in, and not section them off based off intent or purpose. I see a lot of bullet journal style grimoires with a theme much like this, so if that piques your interest, I’d suggest doing a search on bullet journals. Particularly, I believe I have a post about bullet journaling, magic-styles, somewhere... Boom, [here].

We haven’t even started on digital grimoires yet. Probably the easiest to organize and maintain, in my personal opinion in any case. It can be online or off, in a blogging platform or on a cloud, saved as a word document on your phone or PC, broken up into separate files and folders... Almost endless options for this one. And the best part? Password protection. (I’m a tech kid.) I could honestly go on and on forever about this particular point, but there are so many options, feel free to try some yourself if you’re looking for a discreet, easy-access and organized way to sort your spells.

If it helps anyone, I have four binders, like four or five notebooks, a blog, a OneNote, and folders on my computer all dedicated to witchcraft. This blog literally acts as a digital grimoire for me - it’s also why I spend so much time tagging and hating it, so when I need to find something for my own reference, I have that easy access. I have a huge list of herb correspondences in its own cute little notebook, just because it would take up so much damn space in a binder on its own anyway. My tarot spreads have their own notebook, as do a set of very detailed interpretations for the card meanings, because some of my books are, super lacking to say the least.

So, like, it’s clear I put a lot of time into my witchy notes and how I keep them, but that is just me. If it sounds like too much work and you don’t wanna bother, honestly don’t. I do it because it satisfies me, because I feel it adds to my craft, because I enjoy it. That’s what it should be like for all y’all too. So, again, if you don’t feel like having your stuff in any particular order or manner is relevant to how you do your magic-y biz, seriously don’t bother - your grimoire is no less a grimoire (or whatever term you use to call a book of magic) because it’s not organized, or doesn’t look witchy, or you just write the notes and not bother with designs. I will say it as many times as it takes to run it into the ground - you do you in your own magic.

For supplies:

This one I might have less to say on, because my stuff is, heh, not so organized lmao.

I guess mostly, again, it comes down to what works for you, or whatever keeps your supplies safe from harm.

Some people keep boxes for their supplies - I’ve painted a shoe box and kept witchy biz in it. If you want to line it or not to keep things safe, probably depends on you or what you plan to put it in.

Sometimes things don’t need to be stored - if you have space and you are able, you can leave them out on a shelf or even tucked into a drawer. Seriously, wherever you can put them, wherever they will be safe, I think that’s mostly what matters for that.

Crystals might need the most special treatment, especially more fragile specimens. I know, when I moved, I had to wrap all my crystals into shirts and socks to make sure nothing damaged them on the way. And, quite frankly, they’re still all like that. Mostly because I don’t have a lot of other place to put them right now, but it really is keeping them protected too. So while it may not look the most witchy, it’s pretty damn functional.

Labels are helpful, particularly with herbs that look veeery similar.

On the topic of herb containers, as long as the herbs are dry, they are safe to store in whatever container you want to put them in. I have herbs in a mixture of glass jars, plastic containers, and sandwich bags. So yeah.

Like I said, not really so much experience on supplies - most of my stuff is practical, not necessarily done because it looks good but because it works. And a lot of my more important supplies are just, chilling on a shelf. I know not everyone has the ability to be so open with their craft, but based on my scope of perspective and experience, I can only talk about things that I have done or encountered, and so I may not be able to give accurate advice for every situation. You know?
