Constantly thinking about a conversation me and a buddy had about how people in the modern era always end up making or Headcanoning villains as homophobic or just general bigots...

#No bc I think it’s a very interesting phenomenon #our conversation came down to how people are honestly unable to comprehend a person is horrible unless they’re a bigot #the example we were talking about is how so many ppl headcanon William Afton furnaff was homophobic to make him like. worse #when like. he’s already a kiddy murderer. I don’t think he can get any worse than that? he kills kids and is an abusive father #no need for him to also be a bigot but yet it’s a popular headcanon #and my pal said it’s bc a lot of ppl are unable to comprehend villains who are complex and have complex opinions/world views #and tbh YEAH!!! I think it’s really common for us to see villains or just people we don’t like as. unable to be like us #if a person sucks then we cannot have anything in common with them. when that isn’t the case #not everyone person who’s a piece of shit is a bigot. it’s common sure but not every villain is gonna be openly racist or transphobic #if anything a villain who has the same world views as the heroes/protags/audience makes them more complex!! #because it can show that anyone who is considered ‘a good person’ can actually be a pos despite their views or show how a person can fall to #-the dark side lol #and yeah obviously in certain cases a villain being a bigot makes sense and works story wise #I know I have quite a few antagonists who are bigots #but it’s a super common pitfall to just assign an antagonist ‘oh they suck so they also hate autistic people!’ or smth instead of like #just letting their horrible actions show how they’re a horrible person #I promise if a serial killer is a serial killer then like. yeah THEYRE horrible. and if you can only see them as horrible if they’re a bigot #then uh. I find it interesting how from the Drax Trios innitial perspective everything Donnie is just justifies their opinion more-

Donnies dark aesthetic, murderous humor, dangerous machines, deadpan attitude and lack of liking of magic combined with his alleged backstory and being friends with a human? U could really argue he got indoctrinated into being a villainous mad scientist or smth. They don't know that that's just him, Donnie TM. I can absolutely see them being worried that "Long lost brother" got brainwashed so badly and how annoying that could be for Donnie himself lol

I'm also curious on Donnies relationship with Splinter. Is it better than in canon or similar to Canon or worse? Since in Canon Donnie is craving parental approval, does he still here?

First of all, "Drax Trio", thank you, I needed an easier way to refer to specifically Raph, Leo and Mikey in this AU so I'm gonna steal that

Second, yeah, Donnie acting like a cartoon villain is really just cementing the Drax Trio's idea that he's been corrupted by humans. You know Draxum's villain song in the show? I can totally see Donnie putting on a perfomance like that XD Speaking of Draxum, to be fair he's very alike Donnie in the way that he's fully embracing the whole Evil Scientist aesthetic, but in that case his sons would just excuse it with "oh haha dad's just a bit silly goofy don't worry about it it's not like he's actually evil!"

Anyway, you know how Mikey basically forced Draxum into having a redemtion arc in the show? He'd try to do the same with Donnie in this AU. I've been thinking about this for a while so I'm defintiely gonna draw it, but he's constantly going full Dr. Feelings mode trying to teach Donnie how to be a "good person" and such and Donnie finds it INCREDIBLY annoying!

And Splinter! Being a single parent taking care of a child who was created to be a super soldier while living in the sewers is HARD, but not nearly as hard as taking care four of them at the same time under the same conditions. So while Splinter is still dealing with depression and burn out in this AU, he's doing better than what he is in canon. For years Splinter and Donnie would literally only have each other, so they'd end up growing closer as a result. That being said, because Donnie didn't have any siblings to spend time with, he'd end up demanding a lot more attention from Splinter. Which he didn't always recieve, because his dad is still very much dealing with a lot of emotional baggage. To summarize, Splinter is still a flawed parent, but he's not terrible by any means, he and Donnie are close, but Donnie is also a lot more lonely (especially before meeting April).

Your voice carried through your skyrise apartment, ricocheting off the walls coming from where you stood in the kitchen. You called out to the man who so graciously made his entrance through your bedroom window. How do you know if you're not in the same room? He made quite the loud thud as he let himself into your home.

”Maldita sea. I'm fine, gimme a minute.”

With a voice more hoarse and rough, it was safe to make the assumption that he hurt himself on his anomaly chase. His intrusions would never alert you to this degree since he'd be more stealthy, and above all wouldn't want to worry you, but tonight wasn't the case. Your feet carried you from the kitchen into your bedroom, revealing a very battered and bruised Miguel who held onto his shoulder as he plopped himself down on your bed. His eyes were fixated on the pristine white city beyond your window, not meeting your gaze as you approached him.

Based on how stiff he got when you stood in front of him, he definitely felt some sort of shame. But it was clear it wasn't the time to tease him, so you left wordlessly and entered your bathroom. Returning with bandages and hydrogen peroxide, you sat beside him, but was met with clear hesitancy.

”I told you I'm fine.”

You didn't even spare him a glance as you had already begun wiping a cotton swab with the liquid on his scar. ”Tell that to your clearly injured body.”

”I could've handled this myself–”

”Being stubborn won't get you nowhere, Miguel.”

It was in his best interests to stay silent after that, not wanting to go back and forth any further because it'd lead to him eventually admitting you were right. With the occasional wince and retract of his body, you bandaged up his bloodied shoulder wordlessly and left him to his own thoughts as you went to put everything away.

It was pushing around three in the morning. Miguel had failed to realize how long he stayed out until now, but it was out of his control what issues suddenly sprung. And he dealt with them accordingly, but he didn't always leave unscathed. When it came to patching himself up, usually he'd do it on his own, but ever since he found trust in your care, you took over that job.

”Miguel.”

Your voice called out from behind him, so he turned around – still sitting on your bed – and saw you in nothing but a bathrobe. His right eyebrow characteristically shot up, his eyes very carefully following your frame. ”You need to take a bath.”

Instinctively, he opened his mouth to protest. ”I'm—”

”Before you say "no," you need to. Let me take care of you.”

Miguel heard the sound of water running in the bathroom connected to the bedroom, and after pondering for a few beats, he rose to his feet and took long strides to where you stood. You had a smile of satisfaction seeing your big lover give in to your obviously correct suggestion, and even he chuckled faintly under his breath.

”Don't take this as you winning, 'M only doing this so you don't whine,” he asserted as he began walking past you and into the tiled room, you following closely in pursuit. ”Whatever helps you sleep at night.”

It wasn't long before you got Miguel fully situated in the tub. But it was different from your usual set-up. You had your back against the marble edge, Miguel's head planted gently on your naked breasts as he laid himself in between your legs. Most of his body was submerged in the steaming water, and you could feel the way his tense trapezius and deltoids began to diminish. You even lit a candle.

”How was the anomaly this time?”

As much as you both loved silence, it was in the dead of night, during moments like this, where you knew you had Miguel to yourself. A low rumble reverberated throughout his entire being, a hum before giving you an answer. ”Nada demasiado complicado.”

Your hands grabbed a small cloth, lathering in soapy texture and running it over his shoulders as you responded. ”"Nothing complicated" and yet you look like you fought three of 'em.”

”They ganged up on me. Lyla didn't warn me in time.” His tone was nothing short of witty, and even with his eyes closed you could make out the ludic expression on his face.

”Yeah. Blame the AI, right?”

”I'm serious.”

”Of course you are.” Your banter ended in a small laugh on your part, a smile of contemptment on his. Miguel submitted yourself to your care, maneuvering his body in ways that allowed you to clean the dirt off him from the previous day thoroughly. Your fingers trailed all over his wet body. From the sides of his rib cage where he was most ticklish, to his thighs that laxed the more you massaged. Your hands worked like magic, bringing the large man multiple waves of relief that soothed the stress he endured.

The bath session lasted for about forty-five minutes, much shorter than your usual time. But Miguel was clearly fatigued and wanted to be in bed, so you cut your time short and promptly dried yourselves off before getting dressed in nothing but underwear and a bonnet, Miguel also only clad in briefs. It's a level of comfortability he cherished, allowing himself to be vulnerable enough again, when there was a long period of time where he couldn't do that.

Wordlessly he laid himself on the bed, allowing the mattress to practically engulf him with the most long winded groan you've heard from him. ”¿Comfortable, príncipe?”

”I am not a damn prince–” He mumbled while giving you a partial side eye as you climbed yourself in bed beside him.

All you gave him was a small "but you were being treated like one" before you were quickly tugged towards his body by a hand on your thigh, your head meeting his chest with a soft collision. Miguel was never one for too much cuddling, but the one consistency was that he always had at least one arm around you at all times throughout the night. If you went to the bathroom? He knew. If you left to get something to drink? He was aware of it. Call it protective, but too much happened in his past for him to let another opportunity of safety slip through his fingers and irresponsibility yet again.

And it's with that thought that he speaks. ”...Gracias.. por el baño.”

”Mm? Sorry, what was that?” You responded with enough sarcasm to make the large man groan. You smiled with your eyes closed, hand coming up to rest on his lower abdomen.

”I said thank you. For the bath.. and the.. bandaging my arm.”

A huff of endearment left your nostrils, peeling your eyes open to meet his deep brown ones. Your lips met his cheekbone, leaving a long lasting peck before you rested your head on his chest again, a content smile on your face.

”You're welcome Miggy.”

You fell into slumber quickly, your breathing becoming more steady as your features relaxed. Miguel felt your heart beating steady against his side, and confirming you were fully asleep due to his acute senses, he whispered into the night, a secret that he only had the courage to utter when no other soul could hear.

Anyway, Shuro isn't the only character with problems, he isn't even the only Japanese/ Eastern Archipelago character, so not the only one with that specific background. And yet, he sure is the only one who acted out the way he did.

If you like him for .. whatever reason (narcissism? Based on your posts, I guess), that's fine, but like. There's extremely valid reasons for not liking him that aren't just "ur racist" or "you just don't understand!!!!"

in the post abt him leaving izutsumi in the dungeon to come back “if she wants to” the “nuance” i was talking abt was the fact that he said “if she wants to” i.e giving her a choice to return (which she didnt do because she hated that place obv). also sorry hes not powerful enough to abolish slavery in his country, hes not even the heir to the family. dont think the eastern archipelago is strictly based on a specific time or reality in japan, probably just inspired by reality but not based on it, so shuros family is likely one of many families serving their “feudal lord” who rules a province of the country. in history, feudal lords were also under shogun and the emperor, but neither are mentioned in the manga iirc so i will guess that wasnt the case.

my aim w my posts isnt to force ppl to change their minds on whether or not they like a fictional character. im just giving an extra perspective w stuff from extra content plus my own experience (i.e being asian too) that some people may not know about. what they do w the info is up to them im not trying to tell people how to think. if they learn smth that changes their opinion fine if they dont also fine its not that serious. im just talking about my interpretations of the character.

if i see a critique i may think “wait but do they know about [insert notable info]”. if they dont know, would maybe be good to know bc its important to the character, if they do know and thats the conclusion they came to, thats it! i dont do any more than that n ur acting like im forcing everyone to like him.

not gonna lie, i really thought that after Enola gets arrested that Tewkes was gonna bring those hidden letters she gave him to Sherlock or smth but considering they never met before and he never heard Enola speak about him in a trusting way it makes sense the only person he'd trust the papers to would be Enola so he kept them, sounds about right

also, though im happy Sherlock asks for help from Edith and im happy to see Edith again, im quite sad we didn't get a scene between him and Eudoria.

perhaps the third film will center more amongst the entire Holmes family, that'd be an interesting dynamic to see as we've seen Enola sort of against her brothers with Mycroft being the head in charge but with Eudoria in Enola's corner and Sherlock now too the dynamic will be much more enjoyable

glad that Eudoria was aware of how independent Enola has gotten, which isn't a bad thing but when one stays alone too often and doesn't ask for help, it could be their downfall and just lonely in the end. bc its exactly her mother's teaching that's caused her to avoid any sort of companionship (or more) with Tewkesbury

Enola and Tewkes hugging each other and checking each other's injuries and, "You were made to fight," only this time it's Enola telling Tewkes and i love it and i love them

sampo is either an emanator of elation or aha themselves and ill be taking no criticism on that, will also talk about ahavilii

the most obvious hint to sampo being an emanator/aha are how his powers looks. the daggers he has, cut through the ground leaving faint void marks as if he was cutting through reality itself. void is a reoccuring theme in his animations in general, as it appears in his burst as well. sampo also appears to be able to teleport, as he did drag four people to the underworld at once, not to mention his constant reappearing back and forth. he also leaves no traces in the sand or the water.

another thing, is how he appears to end up on the luofu, following us same as Aha (their bells and giggled are heard in the Phantylia battle). Sampo had no need to follow us like that if he was just a regular masked fool, we benefitted his schemes and he should go on his marry way, especially since he really seems to care about Belobog, so be should stay and keep an eye on it. instead he flew/teleported all the way to us. but why would Aha be so interested in us anyway?

Aha cared about Akivilii (in their own way), they mourn them and seem to have an extensive history with the trailblaze path as well. Aha seems to care about us the most in the SU, so why wouldn’t they care about us so much in the real world? not to mention I also believe we’re Akivilii’s emanator (just an emanator, not a reincarnation as ive seen people say), which makes us even more connected to Aha.

and it shows.

Aha just doesn’t let serious harm come to us, as Sampo saves our asses for zero reason (do we really believe he would save us if we weren’t trailblazers?), flatters us as if we’ve known eachother for years even if he has nothing to gain WHILE we are being dicks to him. it mirrors Aha and Akivilii now that i think about it. Sampo fucks with us, we seem to despise him but at the end of the day we are drawn to eachother

also on that note;

schemes of elation seem to collerate with our trailblazing for some reason? which ties in with how Aha just doesn’t let us come to serious, mortal harm in any way. sparkle could easily kill us, like in real life, not just the dream (putting aside 2.3 knowledge), yet she helped us discover the deeper dreamscape. obviously because it was beneficiary to her, but after such a case happening twice it should start to raise some eyebrows.

also, Aha being with us during the Phantylia battle means they would propably step in if we were truly fucked, because i doubt they’d just watch us die, how would extinguishing one of the last sparks of Akivilii be entertaining?

also i think the next path we’re gonna get is either elation or hunt, since we arent getting eurudition or abundance (unless we want the luofu to shoot as down or smth). if not for the fact that 5* herta and march seem to be further in development than 5* sampo, i doubt we’re getting sampo lore soon :(( i bet theyre gonna try to finish ipc a little more before they divr into aeons

in a mishanks winter soldier au, i cant decide who id want to be the winter soldier. even just picking based on the reveal scene where buck's goggles fall off to reveal only his eyes (bc the mask stays on), i cant choose!

rambling about the pros for each under the cut lol.

with mihawk, the goggles fall off revealing his piercing yellow eyes, immediately recognizable and standing out from his dark hair and black face mask. ws!hawk could also give us longer-haired mihawk, and his return to himself could include shaving his sideburns and facial hair to the sharp style we all recognize, and maybe even a return to the sword if they still have the winter soldier specialize in guns. maybe extra angst of him losing an arm and then retraining with the sword once he gets back to himself. and ofc shanks as his counterpart would be unequivocally considered a good guy by the general public, and very wholesome and charming. closer to the cap mold than mihawk, in any case, lol.

with shanks, i'd say he seems like the more obvious answer for the winter soldier if we're thinking 1:1 comparison to bucky, since he's got the sunshine personality pre-turning, and he even loses the same arm bucky does. his hair would be signature for the ws in this au, ans his goggles would hide the scars. when they fall off for the reveal, not only would the scars stand out from the face mask, but his eyes would look kind. a different but just as effective sort of jarring from ws!mihawk's eyes in the big reveal.

a ws!shanks, however would make mihawk his cap counterpart, which is more interesting bc mihawk is really not a team captain type. in this au, i imagine the shichibukai would be the acting "hero" team, but they'd function more like the suicide squad and they'd overall be pretty infamous in the public eye, not having great reps as everyone would know they were "villains", too rowdy or troublesome to deal with and so they got offered a gov't contract instead. got frozen in time and the gov't was too unnerved with him to let him go off-leash, and mihawk signs on bc what else is he gonna do? and it became clear that they wouldn't stop bothering him 'til he does.

i suppose story-wise i'd be more tempted to pick ws!shanks bc i find mihawk in this strange position of being equivalent to captain america more interesting to write, but i also just can't let go of the reveal scene with mihawk's eyes standing out. and ws!mihawk could come with the angst of cap!shanks thinking that mihawk is just a rival who tolerates him until he saves shanks's life, and then he finds mihawk again as the winter solider...

but then there's cap!mihawk wandering around listlessly in the future bc his best rival sacrificed himself to save mihawk's life, and for what? but when he finds shanks again (he's only ever known one person with hair that vibrantly red, but that can't be... but then the goggles fall, and those gentle eyes!), shanks doesn't know him and he's nothing like his rival used to be, even if their skillsets are still on par, and cap!hawk has to contend with the fact that he doesn't miss a rival, he misses a friend--maybe even smth more than a friend, which he sees in hindsight shanks, his shanks, his old shanks, knew even if mihawk himself didn't, and now shanks is standing in front of him again and he needs--!

i do think it’s definitely something jason’s always been interested even if his relationship with post secondary school has been fluid to say the least. sort of like: i might have a chance if i get a scholarship, to not even in school, to having a shot at going to any school, to missing out on that part of his life in favour of vigilantism and revenge

with his past briefly out of the way i definitely see jason being that person who just Attends lectures even if he isn’t enrolled. he’d go to classes with friends or someone he’s seeing if he had the time. but if anything, jason would take a course just because he finds it interesting. he’d sit in the back of the class and he 100% takes notes even if there’s no reason

if he is serious about going back to school i do stand with majority rule that he’d probably be an english/lit major.

i like to imagine jason did attempt to go to university after everything went down with bruce when he first came back though. a little scorned and confused about his place in everything. i could see him trying to play the part of someone normal and ordinary, what did people his age do again? oh yeah, go to school or leave the city.

i think he’d originally take something a bit more serious, respectable even. law, engineering, business, anything to emulate some version of himself bruce had expected jason to become. i think jason also knowing dick refused, finally agreed, then dropped out of uni would fuel him to go to spite his older brother and appease bruce even if it wasn’t conscious. like it’s an added bonus if jason really thought abt it (which he won’t ofc)

back to school: being forced to take those required liberal art courses would remind jason of what he loved in high school. he loved english class on whole and arguing with the history teacher and picked up languages surprisingly well that he did both spanish and french for a time. and while he really thought about switching majors he ultimately dropped out because he was still playing pretend and into the hands of a man his relationship was beyond complicated with.

i think jason would return when he was a few years older, a little less angry and less focused on his connection to bruce/batman. and this is when he’d major in english, im not enough of a lit baddie to pick a focus but im sure y’all can imagine <33

he’d start with night courses bc he’s already used to being awake so whats a 7-10pm lecture before patrol.

it only became an issue when courses jason’s wanted to take wouldn’t work with his nighttime plan. he started really feeling the burden of living a double life in those moments. and definitely gets antsy in class/studying when an important case is taking up his mind.

he was fortunate to take online classes that interested him greatly too but when school started becoming priority jason would have a moment with himself to decide if he wanted to spend a few years pursuing his degree with a bit more focus or go back to his life before.

and i cannot say what decision i think he’d make bc i know jason gains satisfaction from life by being red hood and cannot fully give it up but he’s also one of those people that is always dying to learn more, to know more and exercise his brain. it’s why his electives r insanely difficult mathematic courses or science labs bc everything interests him. the study of art just moves him a little more which is why he majors in it.

some other points:

- he’s not a fan of the education system and even if money is not a problem jason doesn’t rlly care abt going to elite schools and will gladly transfer around to take courses he wants or depending on where he’s currently is in the world. he’s done classes at most of gothams community colleges and at least one ivy league school

- jason’s doesn’t care how long it takes no finish school either, which works well with his vigilantism. he’s always had an unstable relationship with schooling and completing school in its expected time/format never appealed to him. jason will do it how it wants because he can :)

- he’s a handwritten notes kinda guy but understands that typing is more efficient

- will spend time at uni (and public) libraries just for funsies like he’ll b investigating new drug rings next to people studying for their midterms

- like most of us he really hates group assignments bc he’s too much of a control freak and will do all the work, hand it in and email the prof abt doing it alone without even contacting his group members bc he’s a little shit like that

- but will help in tutoring programs, be a note taker for certain courses and if jason’s fully dedicated to school he might just TA <3

I loveloveLOVE the idea of a FarmSim! AU! Like yourself, I assume a lot of us weren’t raised as farmer’s children, and more or less grew up on Story of Seasons/Harvest Moon. (Altho I do know a bit about living in Indiana, land of the Corn and home of the Indy500, if that counts towards anything lmao). In any case, I hope you like mytake on the Sides!

In terms of Farm Sim tropes, I’d be willing to say that The Royals (Dia, Barb, and ‘Phisto) are a part of some sort of local govt. bc I cannot see them as knees-in-the-mud farmer types lol. Maybe the farm is the “ROYAL FARM OF DIAVOLO” or something to try and convince Dia’s (not-in-a-self-induced-slumber) Mega-Corp father that farms are important, and corpo factories are bad. Diavolo has no idea how farming works but he likes to watch and play with the baby animals. Barb does not appreciate the farm visits bc Dia gets super excited and cannot be told “NO” if he wants to walk across a muddy field and up to a bull like “You are a fine specimen! A complete winner!” Luckily he is blessed with “Animals Love Me” kind of luck. Barb makes sure to get the Young Master dressed appropriately for next time. You need to talk to Barbatos about ordering tools, supplies, and contractors to build/repair things like stables, wells, and greenhouses. Mephistopheles takes care of the buying and selling of animals, and you gotta “prove to him” that you can be responsible enough to handle a horse (he does inspections of the farm and makes EVERYONE take riding/horse care tests).

The angels run the local cafe/store where you can get food and seeds, among other things. They buy your products and sometimes make presents (like sweaters made from your sheep's wool). Simeon and Luke run the Cafe side of things, while Raphael runs the store. Since Luke is a bit young to be running a business, he’s more like an assistant baker and he runs the morning collection at your farm. When he has time, he’ll sing to some of the animals.

Thirteen would probably the the Farm Sim Mine Spelunking Monster Trapper or smth like that? She’ll toss some coin your way if you bring her monster parts or rare ore, and maybe she’ll give you some “recipes” to make mining tools/weapons/traps.

And like... How funny would it be if Solomon just... didn’t change? Like at all? He already fits the “supernatural element” of other farming sims. An interesting and mysterious figure that lives just on the edge of the village. If you come to him with the monster parts/ore instead of Thirteen, he could help artifice some of your farming equipment with special traits, or craft potions that help you talk to animals or w/e.

Okay okay so I totally agree about Diavolo, everything about that is spot on. He's fascinated by farm life, but knows nothing about it just like he is with humans in the game. Totally gets himself dirty because he just wants to experience things! Come on, Barbatos it'll be fun!!

And the corporation dad, that is perfection, too. Of course Dia's trying to convince his dad that farms are good!

Barb is forever suffering lol. While he does have a garden, I can't see Barbatos doing any kind of hard farm work either. He's definitely more suited to getting permits and such, but I could see him frequenting the angels' bakery because he likes to cook. They swap recipes a lot. Maybe he hosts the cooking competition, mostly because I think that'd be so funny.

Mephisto as the animal guy is perfect, you better believe he's gonna make sure your horse area is up to par before he'll even consider letting you have one.

Love the angels running a cafe and store, that's something I could easily see them doing. And oh my heart Luke singing to the animals!! My precious baby son. I kinda see him also being partial to flowers in general, since that's the only thing he's grown in the actual game lol. Maybe he starts making bouquets or perfumes...

Oh man Thirteen as the miner/monster hunter type! She's got a forge and spends untold amounts of time wandering the woods.

Solomon is such a menace and honestly I can't see him doing anything other than being the supernatural being. I keep thinking of Witchie from Story of Seasons/Harvest Moon. Like it'd be funny if he was more like Dessie and lived in a pond, but let's be real, he's definitely the one making weird potions and magic tools and such.

And of course all the characters are also marriage candidates, so if you marry Solomon, he's gonna come live with you on your farm. Spends all day in his wizard tower on the edge of town, but at night he comes home to his lil farmer spouse lsadlkjdfjkfdkjl.

Wow my worlds are colliding so hard right now I can't even deal with it. What I wouldn't give to have all these characters in a game where I could deliberately pursue and marry one of them!

Anyway, I totally love this and your ideas! I'm pretty sure I would do some unspeakable acts to have an Obey Me farm sim game like this.

And you know what? That happens. Plotting is hard. Honestly? Hate plotting so much if I don't know a person these days because I just feel overly anxious and ramble. So yeah, anyhow... Let me share some personal thoughts! THIS DOES NOT TOUCH ON PEOPLE WHO TAKE THEIR TIME, PLEASE TAKE YOUR TIME IN PLOTTING AND PLEASE DO EVERYTHING ON YOUR OWN PACE! THIS IS A HOBBY AND THIS IS SOMETHING WE DO FOR FUN! This is based solely on some of my own experiences with SOME plotting (not all ofc!) as a woman oc writer in 2022-2023. I've had fantabulous experience with plotting and not so much. Please know you're valid, Ily, thank you for bearing with my burnt out ass in plottings. Mwah. Stay winning.

We all suffer from the collective dead brain cell syndrome when it comes to plotting any interaction, but do you know what kind of sucks and makes little ol' me tinsy bit bitter at the end of 2023 after going through countless people who just ignored my plotting proposals when I gave a ton of ideas? And what I'm going to call out just a tiny bit as a woman oc writer?

You can get into wikipedia and seek out information about a canon character to figure out some ideas on plots if you don't know the fandom, but do you do the same for OCs? 'Cuz OCs are sure as hell the very same 'canons from fandoms I don't know' type of situation.

Do you reach out to the CREATOR who can answer all your questions no matter how miniscule they can be? We, OC writers, are ready to give you the deep lore if you ask.

Do you check out about pages or headcanon pages? Hell, some of us have DETAILED NAVIGATION PAGES FOR VERSES! Is your OC or Canon from there? Check it out! Read! Find what interests YOU or if you didn't find something? Just ask the WRITER! Simple, innit? God, Imma be real, some of y'all gonna get my DMs like 'Listen, I can't find if you have this hc, could you please link it to me?' because I want info for plot ideas and if you do the same to me? I kiss u platonically.

Do you have a specific dynamic you WANT for your character? Perhaps, you see a villain OC and want smth toxic to try out - ASK. Or you see an OC that might be a fun friend or neighbor or any other more positive dynamic - ASK. Inquire each other about what DYNAMICS you're open to. Oh you open to all? Sick. PUT DOWN YOUR BOUNDARIES FIRST. BOTH SIDES. SPEAK YOUR BOUNDARIES.

Do you have verses both of your characters are in? Be it OC & OC or Canon & OC? Noice, discuss all possible connections your characters might have! Offer ideas! Offer thoughts! The worst thing another can say is 'no'. And if so? COUNTLESS POSSIBILITIES. Yummy possibilities. Friends, childhood friends, childhood rivals, exes, rivals, co-workers, fight on sight, live next to each other, see each other in the same fucking cafe your muse goes at 2 pm specifically and ALWAYS sees another muse there... Countless. I'm telling you.

JUST DO THE FIRST STEP TOO WHEN YOU INTERACT WITH OCS, I'M ON MY KNEES BEGGING.

OFFER. IDEAS. The vaguest ones will do ok too. I cannot stress this enough but as an OC writer, I've had instances where I just... Gave 5 ideas only to have someone just drop me. Fully and completely. Not the 'I'll reach out to you later I need to think about this' but just full on 'wow this is too much plotting and I don't want to invest that much time' like it sucks. It sucks being the only person offering possible dynamics, ideas, even funny ones in some cases! I'm so burnt out from plotting dynamics because I keep. Offering. Ideas. But I don't have the same feedback loop. More like I have 0 feedback in the instances I dive into possibilities which burnt me out from plotting altogether, closing plotting possibilities with those who may actually be the same kind of insane as I am. And it sucks. Bless you all who give vague ideas or not vague ideas. Love you. You're fucking champions.

anyway thinking abt homophobia in valisthea

which means thinking abt sex-related misogyny in valisthea. bc imo there is way too much sexual violence against women and focus on women as sexual figures w sexual drama in this game for it to not bleed over into how it feels abt two men kissing (not gonna go into a lesbian reading bc it exits my scope)

like. anabella only being a vessel for children, benedikta using sex to control titan/feel loved by barny but also being threatened w rape twice(?) by men, jill awakening shiva when she's almost raped by a man + other rosarian girls are raped, the constant winkwink sexy references w isabella, the offscreen women moaning in the oriflamme brothel, sylvester killing his wife n mistress after they outlived any sexual service to him, barny's mom referenced in an easily interpretable sexual manner, etc etc

simultaneously the narrative does its best to present the veil as a morally neutral institution w benefits to the function of northreach. the discussion between the male sex worker and the male guard was deliberately placed, too, and gives an interesting view into affection and money. theres a couple more men in veil garb that arent presented as out of place.

which is all failed by rest of the worldbuilding imo. only male customers visit the veil. sex is still regarded as a sneaky taboo subject. every country has a male monarch and occupations are firmly divided by gender. the primary hinge of benedikta's relationship w hugo is the fact that hugo feels in charge, which helps culturally ascribe dominance as a masculine trait.

if women are so widely regarded as unequal on sexual terms (and, relatedly, on societal terms), certain expectations must also exist on the male side.

we dont really see much tension in the male characters performing masculinity--other than the huge unnatural vibes sleipnir gives off by mincing around--but we do see barny kneel before ultima in a rly sexually charged scene. his subservience is presented as an unexpected weak facet of his character, where he's desperate and obliging and uncertain. it's a private scene that works off its own uncanniness, so it functions a little bit more as a narrative piece than a societal mirror. but I don't think that removes it from the discussion, and i think its odd character is a stark contrast to the clarity we're given in dion and terence's kiss scene.

a sort of clarity, i guess. dion and terence talk abt power dynamics in class instead of sexual role or gender. there's still the words 'master' and 'servant' pinned on the wall w like 3 different undertones, so its easy to unravel that into different understandings of their relationship to class, duty, and romantic/sexual identity. i dont think its productive to split hairs abt who tops, but i think its reasonable to interpret that they feel secure in w/e service they give to the other. this is in spite of the societal understanding that dominance is inherently masculine and correct, and that subservience is feminine and not as acceptable.

i know enough abt queer history to know that the security & fulfillment i interpret them as having is simultaneously as rare as it is common depending on where you look. no matter what one does in the private sphere, the public view will influence it, and it's determined by the case who will feel negatively or positively abt themselves bc of it.

ultimately i see valisthea in the respect of a society that views queerness as undesirable but not smth ur gonna be burned at the stake for. im also fully operating under my own preference for queer narratives that labor under external & internal homophobic conflicts. it's fully supportable to decide that valisthea lacks homophobia as well, and its not less like wish fulfillment to have it that way or the other.

Thinkin' more about Magritte and Rafael because of course I am. Before they were even roommates

Magritte had kinda coerced Raf to meet with her for weekly jam sessions. It wasn't difficult, mind you--Raf was curious enough about her craft (and her attitude towards it) to let himself be convinced to meet with her again. And then again and again. She always ended one meeting by asking if he wanted another--until they just agreed to meet at a specific little studio space every Thursday evening.

It was the only time of the week they'd meet...but it was -every- week. Magritte's assumption was that Raf probably had a billion and one other commitments. Up until that point, she never really had any musician friends that shared her intense fixation for just...playing music--let alone one as clearly skilled as Raf. She had a handful of chums who played instruments, and would delight in playing for an hour or so with her before wanting to do other more interesting things. Raf though--would get just as caught up in playing and discussing music as she--for hours until they were forced to go home when the studio needed to close for the night.

But, on very rare occasion at first, a conversational topic would lead Magritte to ask one question or another--only to have Raf kinda...clam up on her and become uncomfortably despondent for a while without any explanation or indication as to why. He'd get over it that same session, eventually. But...as the months progressed, Magritte would find herself unwittingly committing these unidentified transgressions with more and more frequency--more and more tense, uncomfortable moments between her and Raf--spurred on by something she asked or said that she didn't know was gonna bother him. Innocuous things, things about school, about hometowns, about parents, friends, past gigs, old bosses, shared childhood experiences, etc.

Initially, she was worried that maybe she was prying, or oversharing, or just being generally annoying. Magritte has undiagnosed ADHD, she doesn't -know- she has ADHD. She's lost friends to being "annoying and clueless about it" before. It does a number to her emotional wellbeing every time it happens, and she's become...a little hypervigilant about noticing any shift in people's moods as a result. But... with Raf, she recognizes that it was just as much a case of Raf being kind of, differently, annoying too. She could tell any time she had upset him--he wasn't obvious about it and put an effort to cover it up...but Magritte would pick up on it rather acutely regardless. Upon being asked about it, however, Raf would not acknowledge his upset.

She finally confronts him about it properly after something he mentions prompts her to naturally ask if his dad is a musician--and he responds with that chilly, terse manner she's become so tired of accidentally activating. She tells him, 'okay--you've got some pretty obvious boundaries or smth, buddy. Wanna just tell me what they are so I can stop tripping all over them?' And, to her further frustration, he is reluctant to acknowledge that anything is, or was ever, amiss. Magritte doesn't play this game well, she can't deal with it. She doesn't 'read between the lines', she can't. It's just not something she is capable of. So an ultimatum. He needs to communicate his boundaries or [[vague guesture]] whatever is going on with this, or she's just gonna stop showing up on Thursdays. She's tired of feeling like she fucked something up without knowing what it was she did.

This hits Raf as a suprise. Magritte's response to his behavior isn't something he even subconsciously considered as a potential reaction. He's been so very use to people placating and dealing with his guardedness until they finally wear him down to get what they want from him--before shunting him once he's provided his use to them. But Magritte, despite being the one interpersonal interaction he looks the most forward to every week, had set her own clear boundary with him and refused to take his shit. She didn't want anything from him except his company--and to play music. Music that no one but the two of them would ever hear.

And so, he finds himself forced to admit to her that he just doesn't want to be known.

'So basically,' Magritte reiterates, 'no personal questions. At all.' Okay, she gets why he was reluctant to put that out there--it's a pretty harsh order to deliver to someone you've been seeing every week for the past 3 months. But whatever, she's good with it. She just wants to play music.

And genuinely, it is fine after that. Magritte avoids personal subjects, the conversation isn't made awkward or stilted by it, the music is fun, and...some trust begins to take root. Enough trust that--she recognizes--Raf does slowly, carefully, very deliberately, begin to give Magritte little bits and pieces about himself beyond the amiciabley one-dimensional, carefully curated persona he cultivated for public consumption. And it's fine, each and every time. She doesn't ask to know more, she doesn't press for explainations, she doesn't try to open him up more than he is willing at any point. She doesn't take it personally. And the trust grows.

Eventually, that trust leads him to invite her into his home as a more permanent fixture in his life. As a roommate, just a roommate.

As for the "plot" and other things... (this got so long I am so sorryy;;;)

Well at first I wanted to do kinda a normal ebg, no plot or anything bc I don't think I have the smarts to do an elaborate game/story lmao and I kinda wanted to have more established s/i lore?? And then I realized hey I can use the ebg to introduce my s/i!!!

See I'd been working SO hard on her names lately, researching and studying in-game adepti lore and stuff and I though why don't I make it a simple game where the goal is to guess her name (with me giving hints ofc) and at the very start I had the idea of her losing her memories so she could re-discover/remember things about herself alongside the "players" learning them. Whoever character I got as my bias would help her and get to know her too along the way, even npcs (or in the rare case of me getting Dottore/Pantalone, probs be the villain for her memory loss lmao)

And then I got Kazuha. And it was so SO perfect. I took inspiration from Spirited Away with the plot point of having your name/memories/identity stolen and for some reason I remembered the whole Ino-shika-cho koi-koi card combo from Summer Wars I just had this vivid mental image of a scene where Kazuha dropped the biggest hint by writing the Kanji for Butterfly (Chō) which doubles ofc as the Hanzi for Butterfly/Crystalfly (Dié) written the same pronounced (and romanized) differently :3c

I did not end up making haiku bc they are complicated but I at least tried to loosely keep/emulate the 3 phrases, phonetic rhyme and sensory elements while referencing my lil plot lmao

And all this started because I was stressing over the fact that "Crys" is not an appropriate name for a Liyue character lmao, I debated for so long giving her a chinese name, but I didn't want to further make her an OC I wanted her to represent me/my blog (also part of me was and still is immensely worried I somehow insult cn ppl by being as some sort of weeabo equivalent or that I am "appropriating culture" or idk I may be dumb but I try to do my research and I prommy it does not come from a place of malice or anything I genuinely love genshin and Li and it's got me interested in a culture/country I funnily enough have somehow interacted with and have friends in but never really paid that much attention to ig...) and then I just had the epiphany What if I just reverse engineer and name her Crystalfly in cn? Lore would be that either her name got accidentally translated in documents a long long time ago and ppl started calling ehr Crystalfly/Crys and she rolled with it or she simply adopted the translation/nickname as her name for international settings, keeping her true name more private (hidden in plain sight tbh) p sure the only ones who know are the elder adepti (Ganyu/Xiao included) and Neuvillette (once he told her his real/first name) (ironically Crys may be harder to pronounce i other languages lmaoooo rip Fontaine)

When you think about the lack of adults in fnafhs, and the lack of narrative importance they have*, Bon's dad becomes a very interesting character, even if he just appears in like one minute of one episode.

It's not THAT long but ion like scrolling

*not to say that there aren't any adults in the series, just that the ones do Nothing™ when they appear, I mean, the only one that comes to mind that ACTIVELY affects the plot (or would affect bc season cut short) is Ms Lana, but she never got to do anything so ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

I'm just gonna talk about the old man this should be quick. (Finishing notes, it wasn't)

He is part of the Yaoi shonen ai subplot alright, at this moment Bon is especially conflicted with his feelings about Bonnie as he has already realized what they are but is afraid to admit it*. The only question now is: why won't he admit them?? It's clearly something he has considered from the beginning, and, after spending more time with Bonnie, is almost a fact that is love (ignoring the possibility of platonic feelings for a bit for the sake of the argument). The answer is: his dad.

*this is more of a personal reading as we know edoo would extend the "maybe maybe not"a lot more. BUT I say this confidently bc at the end of the whole camp arc Bon gets the heartbroken forever alone joke or smth when Bonnie insist on being friends, I rest my case, I got derailed for a bit lol

In the scene where The Man appears (he is nameless you see) we get a glimpse of what the relationship with his son is.

When bon is in his room getting ready for school (and pondering on his results of the Am I Gay? Quiz of life) we hear the voice of his dad to come downstairs. He notices the (not so subtle) injuries on his son and ask what that's about. Bon tells him it's from a fight. He gets up from his seat to clearly interested about it, whether he won, if he used some technique he taught him, etc., looking all invested and proud at his son's actions, finishing the conversation saying how he is proud that Bon is finally acting as a man and that he was getting worried of Bon being "effeminate" (or woman-like to be exact) with all the accessories and especially the sleeve he usually wears. He doesn't make another appearance from there (besides at the end of the episode where he introduces toddy, but he isn't important in here, so it doesn't count)

So, his character is pretty straight forward, he is stereotypically masculine, incites violence and is emotionally distanced from his son, as we see how he dismisses his interest and tries to push him to fight with his lessons on various fighting "techniques". Bon gets pretty bummed out from this short conversation afterwards, having to reassure himself after leaving his house. From here we take that Bon is not close with his dad, and also that he seeks for his approval or at least to not get on his bad side, and understandingly so, seeing how he reacts to smaller things, such as the sleeve.

So what's so interesting about him then?? He gives Bon depth, even if said depth is just showing that he comes from a "kinda homophobic-ish, idk if my dad would kick me out of the house if I'm gay" background. This small information gives us a new perspective of Bon's conflict, after that it's not only a story of a teenage boy trying to understand his sexuality and get a bf or smth, it goes deeper now, what are those feelings exactly, how much influence does his dad have on him?, how does this affect the relationship with his dad? What would he do if his family rejects him for being himself?

Soo idk what I'm going with this I just wanted to talk about my thoughts about the old man whose role is being homophobic for the plot ok bye
