Summary: Alternate Title: 4 times Rui tickled Tsukasa on accident + 1 time he did it on purpose.
After Rui tickles Tsukasa while Wonderlands x Showtime is prepping for a new show, Tsukasa can't seem to get him out of his head...
Warnings: Tickling.
Kamishiro Rui x Tenma Tsukasa from Project SEKAI (Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage!)
Word Count: 4.3k
1
“Tsukasaaaa! This is so neat!” Emu bellowed. “I love how Prince Pegasus is all like, pchoo! Pow! Bop! at The Manticore!”
“You said this is a story you made up for your little sister?” Nene asked.
“Indeed!” Tsukasa proclaimed. Recently, Wonderlands x Showtime had toyed around with performing more completely original works at the Wonder Stage. Of course, their shows always had a personal touch (this was nearly impossible to avoid with Tsukasa’s flair for the dramatic, Rui’s inventive streak, and the sheer scope of Emu’s imagination. Tsukasa sometimes wondered how Nene did it). But they were always based on something. Cinderella but with robots. A theoretical continuation of Sleeping Beauty. King Midas with audience participation. Okay, that last one was a lie, if only because Rui couldn’t make a machine to magically transmute carbon to gold. But it was definitely on brand.
“Saki and I used to play dragons when we were little. But when she got sick, she wasn’t able to play the way she used to. She talked a lot about missing the adventures of Prince Pegasus, my character, so I wrote down new adventures to read to her when I visited her in the hospital!”
Tsukasa was, admittedly, a little apprehensive about performing this. The Chronicles of Prince Pegasus were fun, even enthralling, when it was just him and Saki. But what would his troupemates think? An audience? If he allowed himself to think much more about it, he might just back out.
“Obviously this is a rewritten version, adapted for the stage and adjusted to be even more harrowing!” The others were still reading. Tsukasa couldn’t stand the silence. “But! I would love to hear your thoughts!”
“It’s really interesting, Tsukasa,” Rui said. It was the first time he had spoken since they began reading the script. “I’d like to make a few tweaks to streamline the story and to give us some wiggle room for a bit more improvisation, but I really like the premise. A classic, yet exciting hero’s journey.”
The others nodded in agreement. Phew. This might go okay after all. No, of course it will! “Tweaks? To a star’s original fiction?! How could you, Rui?!” Tsukasa joked.
Rui gently elbowed Tsukasa in the ribs, to which he yelped and jumped almost a foot in the air. It didn’t quite startle him (after all, someone as brave as him wouldn’t crumble beneath such a light touch!), but it… tickled? “I know. I’m the worst,” Rui said. “Now, let’s discuss casting. I think…”
Huh… weird. Tsukasa hadn’t anticipated that such a light touch would make him react in such a way. And why was his face a bit warmer?
Surely it’s just the summer heat.
2
Tsukasa cursed the fact that he was 5’7. Not because he didn’t feel masculine enough or because it somehow took away from his dramatic breadth; rather that Rui put everything too damn high up for him to reach. He was thankful, really. When the troupe actually began production on this show a few weeks ago, Tsukasa found it so surreal. He’d starred in plays, sure, but he’d never written one that got performed! This was the opportunity of a lifetime! Still, how on Earth was he supposed to get into character if he didn’t have Prince Pegasus’ sword?! His cape?! After all, the sword was arguably the focal point of the showdown scene they’d be rehearsing today. Getting up to the blasted things might as well have been a show in and of itself. Tenma Tsukasa, desperately balancing on that treacherous swivel chair—in vain. Tenma Tsukasa, clawing his way up the mountain that was the shelves backstage—only to lose his grip. Tenma Tsukasa Found Dead in Phoenix Wonderland was hardly an appealing show title. This was clearly a losing battle.
“Hey, Rui? Can you give me a hand?”
There he came, his knight in shining sweatpants. “At your service.”
“Thank goodness! I can’t seem to reach the props we need for the next scene. Can you reach?”
Rui stared up at the top shelf where Prince Pegasus’ trusty sword and cape lay. He cocked his head to the left, then to the right. Incredulous. Tsukasa knew Rui was strategic to a fault, but this was excessive. “Hm. Now how did those get all the way up there?”
“You tell me! You’re the prop master!” How strange, he thought! Perhaps this was an exercise in dramatic irony?
Rui began to chew his knuckle. “I am, aren’t I?” Okay, maybe not. That nervous tick was something Rui only did when he was actually nervous—or confused. Think, Tsukasa. Think! There must be something to be done about this predicament! Rui was doing… something. Surveying the scene, perhaps? What more was there to survey? Ground, climb, props. Beginning, middle, end. “To be honest, I don’t know how I got those up there in the first place. I can’t even reach that high. Maybe someone else moved them?”
“Who? Robo-Nene?”
“Maybe.”
“Ugh. You’re impossible,” Tsukasa groaned (with a surprising undertone of affection, he realized). “Wait, what about the ladder? Where is it?”
Rui shook his head. “Emu gave it to one of the contractors for the new splash pad they’re working on in the kids’ area.”
“Great, so what do we do now?”
Rui went back to chewing on his knuckles. Interesting technique… Tsukasa wondered if it might help him think of something.
…mm, nope. No dice. His mouth kind of just tasted like salt now.
“Oh, how about I lift you up?” Rui suggested. “The top shelf is about eight feet off the ground. I should be able to get you up high enough to reach.”
Tsukasa internally kicked himself for not thinking of that sooner. But of course, as the brave troupe leader he was, he had to inspire confidence in his dear director. “Aha! Brilliant plan, Rui! Yes, let’s conquer this conundrum once and for all!”
Rui chuckled. “That’s our star.” Those words made Tsukasa’s stomach flutter in a way that almost… pleasant? He decided he’d unpack that later. Rui carefully positioned himself behind Tsukasa, hovering his hands just over Tsukasa’s waist. “Okay, ready?”
“Ready!”
1, 2, and 3. Tsukasa was in the air… and suddenly fighting for his composure. Much to his chagrin, unlike the harnesses he’d used to fly in past shows, the sensation of Rui’s hands on his waist was incredibly ticklish. The fact that his fingers just wouldn’t stay still certainly didn’t help. What on Earth was this pattern? It all happened at once—his stomach fluttered. His core muscles tensed. His lips pursed in an absolutely desperate attempt to suppress a yelp. If he moved, he might give himself away. Curse my body for this betrayal!
“Tsukasa? Are you—”
“I’mfinehahathanks!!” Definitely not convincing. Still, there was time to save this. Tsukasa clambered for the props, and once they were safe in his hands, he landed safely on the ground, heart still pounding in his chest and blood rushing to his face. Turning completely away from Rui would be suspicious, but he had to cut his losses somehow.
“Th-Thanks for your help,” Tsukasa said, fastening the royal blue cape around his neck. Ah! Wait! He could pass it off with his costume! Tsukasa did a dramatic half-turn, the cape unceremoniously tangling behind him. Turns out the stale air of the shop was not exactly conducive to flowy capes.
“Of course,” Rui replied. Tsukasa imagined Rui grinning from ear-to-ear. Normally it came across as smug, but… part of him wanted to turn around, just to see if it looked different.
A beat. Neither moved and neither spoke.
“All right, want to start rehearsing the scene in fifteen?” Rui asked.
“Yeah, sounds good.”
Rui made his way back onto the Wonder Stage. Something told Tsukasa that this would stay etched into his brain for the foreseeable future.
3
Rui.
Rui, Rui, Rui.
“Our star.”
There was a pit in Tsukasa’s stomach. It had been days since the prop incident, as he called it. He’d been thinking about Rui for much longer than he usually did. His sly, grinning face; his voice; his praise; his stupid jokes—and his hands on his waist. Tsukasa longed for Rui’s touch, and he longed for that touch in particular.
He didn’t get it.
Tsukasa had never had a real crush before. Wait—was it even a crush? Can one develop crushes that quickly? He was at least a little prepared for the butterflies and the racing thoughts. But tickling? Did people fantasize about their crushes tickling them? Was this normal? Then again, maybe it wasn’t actually about the tickling, right? No, surely he just wanted Rui’s attention. That made enough sense. But then again again, why was he so fixated on that moment in particular? Not all the other times Rui had touched him? Why was he so fixated on Rui’s fingers dancing across his skin? Of nails gliding across his stomach and hands lovingly squeezing his sides? Of gentle kisses to his cheeks? Of laughing without a care in the world as Rui showered him with compliment after compliment?
No one could ever know about this. Not the troupe, not Saki, not Toya, and especially not Rui. But Tsukasa was an actor. Surely he could put on a brave face.
Or not. Dress rehearsals were actually kind of a disaster. Sure, Prince Pegasus was victorious even without his sword, he rescued his sister, yadda yadda yadda. Tsukasa could go through the motions. But he kept finding his eyes drifting to Rui. And for the most part, Rui hadn’t noticed (thank God), until the final scene.
“Pegasus! Remember, you’re talking to your sister, not the audience!”
Damn it.
“Right! Sorry!”
So the scene dragged on. They ran through it twice. Then three times. Tsukasa’s mind was foggy with heat, frustration, and Rui. Rui’s attention. Rui watching him. Rui judging him. Rui’s disappointment in his lackluster performance. Rui’s disgust when he inevitably learned what Tsukasa had been thinking lately. The urge to cry pricked the corner of his eye.
“...and scene!” shouted Rui. “That was perfect.”
Reprieve. Tsukasa wasn’t absolutely convinced, but it would do for now.
Rui’s show notes went in one ear and out the other. There was no way for them not to. While Nene and Emu listened intently, Tsukasa just pondered whatever… that was. This was bad. Very, very bad. Tsukasa had struggled with roles before, but never for this reason. Never because he was so utterly enamored by a guy that he couldn’t focus. What did this mean for him? If he couldn’t surmount a little crush to play a simple fucking role, how could he possibly convey the hero’s journey? Tomorrow Prince Pegasus would appear just as pathetic as Tsukasa was. He needed to will this away, or at least shove it down long enough to—
“Tsukasa.”
Oh no.
“R-Rui! My friend! What can your star do for you?” Jesus, did he really just say that?
Rui frowned. Tsukasa drew in a sharp breath. He saw this coming from miles away, but his stomach churned all the same. “You seemed distracted today. That isn’t like you. I was worried, and… I wanted to make sure you were okay.”
Exhale.
…that’s it? That’s all he had to say? In just ten seconds, Tsukasa had gone through all five stages of grief and prepared a (quite beautiful, he thought) monologue explaining his “poor” performance. But Rui, ever the wildcard, threw that plan out the window. Of course, any actor can handle a little improv! Right…?
“Oh, yes! I was just…” Think, Tsukasa. Think. “…uh, the heat! Yes, that’s it. I was simply dizzy with the summer heat!” If Rui’s expression was anything to go off of, that wasn’t very convincing at all. So much for improv.
Rui’s contorted face quickly softened to a concerned one. Absolutely none of this was going to plan. “Tsukasa, are you nervous?”
Of course I am, Rui. How can I be calm when your stupid, pretty face is right in front of me? How can I be calm when all I can think about is you ti—
No. But Rui saw right through him. Lying was absolutely not an option. He could, however, conjure a different motivation—it just had to be in character. “Maybe a little. It’s just… are you sure we’re ready to perform tomorrow? I know all of our characters came easily to us, especially mine, of course, but this might be our quickest turnaround yet!” …yeah! Something like that.
Rui seemed to contemplate this answer for a moment (or, at least, that was Tsukasa’s best guess. Rui’s facial expressions were not known for their readability.) He smiled, laying a hand on Tsukasa’s shoulder. “You know I would never put on a show that I didn’t think we could perform. As your director, I have the utmost confidence in you and the others.” Then, he lay his other hand on Tsukasa’s free shoulder, just as tenderly as the first. “And I know our star won’t let us down.”
This wasn’t out of the ordinary. Rui was usually sincere, but felt recontextualized. Tsukasa knew something about Rui, or maybe himself, that he didn’t before. Impulses took over, and before he knew it, Tsukasa found his face buried into the nape of Rui’s neck and his arms wrapped tightly around his body. This was so incredibly selfish. But then Rui’s arms found their way to Tsukasa’s back. It wasn’t as if the two had never hugged before, but it might as well have been. Rui had taken on a different role in Tsukasa’s mind: of an eccentric and colorful casanova.
His soliloquy was suddenly interrupted by the sensation of Rui’s fingertips stroking the length of his back. This was getting ridiculous—could he catch a break today?! Each new spot Rui touched set Tsukasa’s nerves ablaze. Rui’s nimble fingers traveled all the way down to the small of Tsukasa’s back, then slowly back up again, tracing his spine to the valley between his shoulder blades. The higher Rui went, the harder it was for Tsukasa to stifle the giggles bubbling up from his diaphragm. He prayed to God, the universe, anyone who might hear him, that this moment would last a little while longer. But, with one final squeeze, Rui let go.
Tsukasa now prayed that golden hour would obscure the blush on his face. “Um—thanks for… that, Rui.”
Rui smiled (if he even stopped smiling in the first place?). “Of course. I’ll see you tomorrow.” And, in true cheesy-romance-movie fashion, Tsukasa stared as Rui disappeared beyond the sunlight-bathed horizon.
This wasn’t going away, was it?
4
Tsukasa loved the way the Wonder Stage transformed Rui him and his friends. He’d learned this term once, social facilitation, and that described it perfectly: the crowd was the extra push the troupe needed to be the best they could be. Somehow, all the fears he’d had from the previous day had washed away. Emu’s acting demonstrated a surprising level of depth. Nene found confidence on the stage she didn’t have elsewhere.
And Rui? The Wonder Stage brought him out in his purest form.
Rui had long since moved past his days of typecasting, especially with how well-received Thorpe was—but no one would dare say he was a bad typecaster. When Rui assigned himself a role, he played it well. Case in point, today’s villain, The Manticore.
Suspense hung in the air as the audience watched Prince Pegasus approach The Manticore. “You,” Prince Pegasus snarled (so far, so good). He sauntered over to his nemesis, hand on his sword’s hilt. “You have a lot of nerve, kidnapping my sister and thinking I wouldn’t track you down.” This wasn’t going badly after all! Rui had no idea how right he was yesterday—that even if Tsukasa was plagued by this… preoccupation… he was still more than capable. It was all such a rush.
Rui chuckled. Or was it The Manticore? Really, they may have been one and the same. Like Rui, The Manticore was charming, cunning, eccentric, and a little bit too handsome for comfort. But no matter! Like any good story, the Prince would surely emerge victorious; he would defeat his nemesis with courage and wit alone.
And then it happened; something unscripted. Rui placed a finger beneath Tsukasa’s chin, tilting it upward. Tsukasa’s cheeks burned. And as if matters couldn’t get any worse, Rui’s finger then pivoted inward, mimicking a lion’s claw. It tickled. And it drove Tsukasa crazy. This, of all times?! Rui had to know. He was testing him. His resolve. His talent. Tsukasa’s composure teetered on that claw for entirely too long.
“My Prince,” The Manticore (Rui???) cooed. “The choice is yours. The sword, or your sister.”
Tsukasa swallowed hard. But an actor can handle a little improv. Prince Pegasus bowed, offering his sword. “As you wish.”
+1
“Woooow!!!” Emu cheered. “That was so awesome! That must’ve been our biggest crowd yet!”
Nene nodded. “I could really feel the tension between Prince Pegasus and The Manticore.
Tension was right. The amount of restraint it took not to kiss Rui then and there was kind of unbearable. But… Emu was right, too. It was an incredible show with an incredible turnout. So much so, in fact, that the four were already planning a rerun and new ways to make it even more incredible. (Emu and Rui’s idea of this was pyrotechnics. Tsukasa figured he could talk some sense into them another time). For now, they could ride the high of another successful show.
A few rides and a meal later, Emu and Nene began making their way home, leaving Tsukasa alone with Rui. This wasn’t unusual—the girls usually needed to get home a bit earlier—but something felt different. Not just Tsukasa’s little crush, that was hardly new. No, Rui seemed distant. Maybe a bit aloof. That pit in his stomach returned. After the stunt Rui pulled during the show, Tsukasa was convinced he had surely caught on to the thoughts plaguing his mind. And, seeing how Tsukasa just barely pushed through the scene, Rui had surely decided that Tsukasa was far too odd to be close to anymore.
…but that didn’t make sense. Rui was weird, sure. His directing methods were sometimes questionable and his inventions bordered on insane. But Rui wasn’t malicious. He was far too sincere to ever test Tsukasa like that. Plus! Rui hadn’t been distant this morning before the show!
And then it clicked. Tsukasa had made himself the villain in his own story! It wasn’t him, but his inner demons! Okay, that was probably a little heavy-handed for a tickle-crush on a boy. But his point stood! What a complex narrative!
Even with this realization, that pit remained. He wasn’t exactly certain, but there was only one way to find out. He had to know how the story would end, no matter how afraid he was. And so, putting on the bravest face he could muster, Tsukasa sauntered over to Rui.
“Hey, Rui.”
“Hmm?”
“What was… that? By the way?”
Rui chuckled. That damn chuckle. “Ah, did you like that little detail in the showdown scene? I thought a bit of improv would really add to—”
“—was it really just for the show?”
Rui’s face dropped. It was more satisfying that Tsukasa was willing to admit. “…what do you mean?”
“The way you tilted my chin,” Tsukasa said. “It was a brilliant choice! Very much in character! But… it felt like you.” If Tsukasa kept talking, he was certain his heart would burst out of his throat. “And… call me crazy, but I hope it wasn’t just for the show.”
The two stood, face-to-face, staring. Neither spoke. Neither moved. And for once, throughout this entire ordeal, Tsukasa saw Rui’s composure break. His hand covered his mouth, and his face turned a deep shade of crimson. Bashfulness looked good on him, Tsukasa thought. Rui’s piercing, yellow eyes met Tsukasa’s. It was familiar. It was the exact “cunning” way Rui had looked at him before.
Oh, wow.
“Tsukasa…” Rui mumbled. The corners of his lips quirked upward, and he laughed. Really laughed. An honest, breathless belly laugh that Tsukasa had never seen from him before. He was completely and utterly enamored by it. “I—I didn’t expect you to read me so candidly.” Rui stepped forward, taking Tsukasa’s trembling hands into his own. “You’re right. A small part of me hoped you’d notice.”
Tsukasa found himself laughing, too. “It took me longer than you know.”
This was comfortable. The both of them, equally shy and equally embarrassed. After all, if all the world was a stage, wasn’t there also a backstage? A green room? An honest moment between actors?
“Rui, can I kiss you?” Tsukasa spat the words out before he could even think about them. And, just as quickly, Rui leaned in, pressing his lips firmly against Tsukasa’s. It was awkward, and decidedly weirder than a stage kiss. But it was nice for the walls to come down. The masks were off. The audience was gone. There was only Tsukasa and Rui…
…and the familiar tickling sensation of Rui’s fingers along the contour of Tsukasa’s jaw. Tsukasa felt his lips part hopelessly into a big, goofy smile. “Wh–What are you doing?”
“Tickling you,” Rui answered. “You’re not the only perceptive one around here, my star.”
What was it called when the pit and the butterflies happened at the same time? Butterfly mosh pit?
“You noticed—AH!”
Rui’s fingers traveled down to Tsukasa’s neck, his nails dragging along either side. “Not at first, but I did notice that you never tried to stop me.” They darted wildly between the underside of his jaw and the crook of his collarbone, never staying in one place for too long. Even trying to trap Rui’s hand between his cheek and his shoulder didn’t work—his fingers could still wiggle away at his neck.
“YoHOU—! You jeheherk!!!” Tsukasa sputtered.
“Me? A jerk?” Rui feigned his best offended voice. “I thought you wanted me to do this!” Rui now had Tsukasa wrapped in his arms, trapping him between his wriggling fingers. This time, he pressed a little harder as he drilled his fingers ever-so-slightly into Tsukasa’s ribs. Tsukasa’s laugh shot up in pitch to an octave he didn’t know he could reach—and it grew even more frantic when Rui’s hands wandered to his sides instead. He couldn’t figure out what tickled more. Squeezing? Spidering? His brain was, frankly, too fuzzy to even think about it.
“I—! D-Don’t—ahaha!!—dohon’t make me say it!”
“Say what? Say that you want me to tickle you?”
“You know what!!”
“Do I? Surely I wouldn’t ask if I knew.” Heavens, Tsukasa wasn’t prepared for how much Rui would tease him. Each sentence seemed to be punctuated by even more tickles. No matter how Tsukasa squirmed or twisted, there was always another hand waiting for him, ready to poke at his side or claw under his arms. He could certainly say it was hell, but he’d surely be lying. The fact that Rui was giggling along with him somehow made the sensation even stronger. So, instead of trying to pull Rui’s hands away, Tsukasa simply opted to cover his own face. This seemingly only encouraged Rui to speed up. “Why are you hiding your face? Can’t I hear you giggle?”
“I—ehehe!! I’m embarrassed!”
Rui gasped. “Tsukasa? Embarrassed? What a fascinating turn of events!” Rui’s hands shot straight up to Tsukasa’s wrists as Rui just barely let his fingers graze Tsukasa’s forearms. His arms?! How was that even a spot that could be ticklish?!
Rui’s hands suddenly paused. It was quiet for a moment—much too quiet. The anticipation still wracked Tsukasa’s body. Though he didn’t quite understand why he was still twitching and giggling, he wasn’t exactly complaining. Still… he couldn’t possibly watch. As his hands rose to his eyes, Rui finally spoke.
“Hm… I wonder what happens if I—” Oh no. Tsukasa realized Rui’s were hovering over—
“DON’T YOU DARE—!” Too little, too late. Tsukasa shrieked as Rui’s fingers danced and scribbled all across his tummy.
“Oh! What an interesting discovery! I simply must know more about this spot…” At this point, Tsukasa had fully collapsed against Rui’s body. If not for being in Rui’s arms, he would have absolutely fallen to the ground. But, far too tired to fight back, Tsukasa couldn’t help but laugh away as Rui methodically mapped every bit of his torso. Knowing Rui, he’d have a nearly encyclopedic knowledge of his tickle spots after today.
And for once, Tsukasa really did feel like a star. Maybe not in the way a world-class Broadway actor would be, or a celebrity on the silver screen, but like the apple of Rui’s eye. Attention without performance felt so utterly foreign to Tsukasa—but he could get used to it, he thought.
Even as Rui lightened his touch and slowed his fingers, Tsukasa still found himself awfully ticklish at the moment. Even the slightest, unintentional movement of Rui’s hand sent him into another fit of giggles. Only after Rui removed his hands completely was Tsukasa able to really catch his breath. Though heaving, he gazed at Rui, who was wearing the dumbest grin he had ever seen. Had he not been so worn out, he would have laughed all over again. “I—I think you enjoyed doing that as much as I… um. You know.”
Rui chuckled. “I do know. As for whether I enjoyed it… open to audience interpretation,” he said with a wink.
Tsukasa sighed fondly. He gingerly took Rui’s hand in his. “Walk me home?”
“Of course, my star.”

HONEST QUESTION by why do u think no one (until shauna did at their fight) ever called jackie out on being oblivious to other people’s feelings? Like we all know jackie is never mean on-purpose nor does she ever want to cause any harm but there are times where she has no idea that she is indeed doing so.. or is somehow influencing that.. And its like why has no one else ever tried voicing this out to her? BC we can clearly see she would’ve done something to change her behavior if it was pointed out. I just dont get why no one tried to other than the fact that it was probably just pretty privilege or people just being too scared to say so
WELL okay this question really got me thinking lmao my answer is sort of twofold so walk with me here…I don’t fully think jackie IS oblivious to other peoples feelings and I don’t think people have any issues calling her out when she misreads tone. The people who do tend to snap at the others when they say stuff that annoys them—off the top of my head shauna (obviously lol), tai, nat, mari, and van—all do at jackie at some point.
I think in canon, with the group as a whole, jackie is actually very in tune with their emotions. She corrals them at the kegger and they genuinely react positively. I think she’s honestly extra in tune with people’s emotions, perhaps partly because has to work a little harder at things. I think that’s why she’s captain.
When I say “off” in my original post, I mean that I think people can sense the way that someone picks up on and addresses behavior (aka loading time/processing/trying to problem solve when that isn’t what’s desired/etc) more than I mean that jackie is saying shit that upsets people regularly. I think that, other than shauna, jackie doesn’t upset them much more than anyone else until later in the season when things get bleaker.
Once they’re in the woods, jackie has lost her entire social script. It’s funny to me how people say she was the enforcer of society, because really I think society has kicked her ass and she’s simply learned how to exist within it and doesn’t know how to adapt to change. This isn’t the setting she’s used to, she doesn’t know how the people she’s learned and adapted to will react to these things, because who the fuck does?? It’s now unpredictable and she’s just really lost in a compounding way. We see her actually cheer people up again when things fall back into a script that she has access to—the seance, doing mistys makeup for her, etc.
As far as shauna goes, she has NO problem letting Jackie know when she’s upset with her lol. She just gives her no clue why. Shauna doesn’t communicate her feelings with anyone really and she certainly doesn’t delve into big picture things. (There’s a tai shauna tangent here that I’ll go on one day but besides that relationship, shauna is really just closed off and expects people, especially jackie, to read her mind.) Shauna snaps or gives the cold shoulder and Jackie adjusts and readjusts, until she’s fixed it the best she can.
I think that shauna’s reaction to being called out for cheating with jeff is something that greatly colors a lot of peoples’ views on jackie, when really it says a whole fucking lot more about shauna herself. Shauna is a horribly fucking unreliable narrator. We see her get confused and forget what her own lies are when she’s fessing up to callie about adam. She was writing her own narratives and letting resentment build even before the crash. So to me, taking what shauna says during that fight at face value, over what we actually see of jackie and their relationship, is a mistake. Shauna’s backed into a corner. She’s caught out. Little miss I’m with homeland security, first panic instinct is to lie is going to make shit up. She was trying to hurt jackie. That was the goal. For a myriad of reasons—I love shauna shipman don’t get it twisted lol. (And we see jackie realize shauna is tying to hurt her. Jackie tries to hurt back for a bit and she sucks at it lol and then she slips back into shocked hurt.)
So anyway, yeah. I think shauna clearly felt overshadowed, but she just does. In general. All the time. We got to see that in 2x09 when she spells it out for us in her journal lol. So using this scene to read jackie as someone who actually does the things shauna is accusing her of feels like a big jump to me.
Shaunas feelings were real. But I don’t fucking think shauna hated soccer. I don’t think jackie ever actually pushed her into her shadow, unintentionally or not. I think that jackie couldn’t navigate shauna’s emotions in any way other than placating when she could and trying to cling to her, because she was constantly terrified that shauna would leave her. Why did jackie expect shauna to go to rutgers? Probably because that’d been their entire fucking plan and jackie had no way of knowing that shauna didn’t want that anymore. I’m gonna talk more about their fight one day when it isn’t a tangent on a different topic lol, but basically I think reading what shauna says in the fight as truth is a common and inaccurate take.
To the last point, I think prettiness definitely impacts a person’s life on like every scale and makes people overlook things they might not normally, but I don’t necessarily feel like jackie got off with no feedback basically. And I don’t think she was actually that hurtful. I’ve talked about the nat situation here and how it’s unique, but that isn’t jackie being oblivious, that’s jackie trying to get an outcome. She is clearly oblivious sometimes (when she tries to give a pep talk post insane leg breaking lol, when she tells travis about who nat has hooked up with, when she is pragmatic about things like rationing food) but really she rarely says overtly hurtful shit, even on accident. She does less so than the other girls.
So I think it all comes back to that thing that a lot of viewers do—view jackie as fake. The fact that she doesn’t really give any evidence of meanness sort of was my point. Even when there is nothing bad said, general social awkwardness can be taken as an indication of insincerity. I think this is sometimes especially true when someone is overall decent at masking, at least enough that they’re superficially seen as well liked. Because then people see a hiccup (which is really an adjustment to new input) and take it as an intentional behavioral change.
(Grain of salt, I am someone who had a keen fucking interest in being as pretty as possible at her age lol, to the degree that when I was asked how I got so good at “beauty stuff” I said “well, you can be weird if you’re hot enough!” Until I learned that was actually NOT the answer people were looking for of course lmao so I am close to the subject of performative attractiveness to skate by and I also know that it only tends to cover more superficial likability—aka homecoming queen, but you’re only got like 1-2 close friends and your teammates have no issue giving you bizarre looks when you miss the mark lol)
Thanks for the ask, clearly it got me thinking. Like a lot. Many tangents and I’m not even sure how well I addressed the questions lol but I don’t feel like going back and making it more focused so this is the ramble we get!! <3

Autism movie/show deep dive and my very general thoughts on them!
(everyones different these are my own opinions as an autistic woman please watch for yourself and share any additional thoughts you have on them!)
Music (2021)
Tumblr media
Enough said.... had to get this one over with 0/10
Adam (2009)
Tumblr media
I found most of these movies to be outdated BUT I actually really appreciate Hugh Dancy's recreation of an autistic character (those who know him as Will in Hannibal would probably also agree). Even though originally I wasn't a fan of the ending I came to appreciate it that he wasn't 'saved' by romance and that it proved he was able to be independent and had great character growth while still respecting himself and his passions. I think it offered a decent insight to the different aspects of autistic joy, passion, while still including the difficult aspects with socializing, navigating relationships, grief, and meltdowns but now being overshadowed by them or 'becoming a problem'. However, I do love space so that could've also been responsible for my love for this movie. 8/10
Heartbreak High (2022)
Tumblr media
I absolutely love Chloé Hayden who is autistic herself so her character in the show feels real and more relatable. Pretty much what I said about 'Adam' but to an extreme I think the script and character interactions are such a fantastic and understandable demonstration of what being an autistic women is like (granted everyones experience is different). Cannot wait for the next season! This show is such a great modern day representation and not based in stereotypes like others are 10/10
Big Bang Theory (2007)
Tumblr media
I will never not defend this show - I know people tend to hate this because Sheldon is heavily stereotypical but I find him incredibly relatable as I do fall into a lot of these stereotypes myself. Once again everyones experiences are different so I don't understand why people write this show off completely. Love it 10/10
Atypical (2017)
Tumblr media
Unfortunately I don't have much to say about this show in regards to his autism because the constant inconsistencies during scenes deserve their own post and were too distracting to focus on anything else. Another thing that upset me about this is that the show is meant to take place in Connecticut yet they filmed in one of the most recognizable aquariums in the west coast. This show probably could've been good if it was just made better/had quality control. The only thing I remember liking was the pros and cons list because I also do that. 4/10
Mozart and the Whale (2005)
Tumblr media
I'm going to preface this one specifically that I know everyone's autism presents differently but I almost found her... offensive? I think this is because it was made in 2005 and is just outdated but I felt like a lot of the characters especially hers were more caricatures than characters. Sheldon being stereotypical is one thing but this felt kind of insulting? I'm having a hard time putting it into words. There were moments I liked though - it was a weird back and forth. 5/10
What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993)
Tumblr media
Other than the mistreatment/beating/abuse I actually am pretty fond of this movie. Once again, outdated. But almost... endearing in a way (minus the mistreatment once again). I hope anyone who has seen it will understand what I feel. I did find the love interest annoying but that is unrelated to this post yet I felt the need to warn you all, I don't like her. 7.5/10
My Name is Khan (2010)
Tumblr media
I watched this movie six years ago in school before my diagnosis and I didn't even remember or realize he was autistic but I do remember having generally positive thoughts on this movie ?/10 (someone let me know if its worth a rewatch.
A Brilliant Young Mind (2014) ((also called X+Y))
Tumblr media
There is a lot of downtime in this movie so it can be kind of boring but it is honestly one of my comfort/go to movies. Of course its the whole "autistics are math geniuses" thing but the movie itself I think is sweet. It shows his diagnosis, he loses his father, he has almost a fill in father who coaches his math, his mother is really supportive of him but not in a savior kind of way, he experiences going out of the country for a competition, struggles with socializing/overwhelm, romantic interests, and there is another character who is autistic and his struggles are also shown in a relatable way, nothings (in my opinion) is annoyingly over exaggerated like it sometimes can be in movies. 9/10
The Good Doctor (2017)
Tumblr media
I never actually finished the show because the person I was watching it with kept making fun of me by relating myself to him. Since then I also haven't seen much of a positive reaction from other people either but please let me know your thoughts on it! ?/10
The Imitation Game (2014)
Tumblr media
Alan Turing himself was autistic and so even though it's not a main focus of this movie I still wanted to include it because I love this movie! 9/10
Sherlock Holmes (timeless)
Tumblr media
I have to also through him in here, obviously some versions are more autistic coded than others but I'm going to generally say all of them are great autistic representation <3 10/10
Not Dead Yet (2023)
Tumblr media
Like in Heartbreak High, Rick Glassman an autistic actor plays an autistic character and I think its another great modern day representation. It obviously isn't the main focus but they honestly do a pretty good job being educational in regard to social situations/difficulties and explain it in a way that people can learn from. 10/10
Bones (2005)
Tumblr media
I honestly can't remember if they ever say it but Temperance is 100% autistic and I think this is a very endearing show. Since its not the main focus I don't have much to say other than sharing my recommendation 9/10
Criminal Minds (2005)
Tumblr media
I mean... enough said. I love Reid with my whole heart. He is very much the 'autistic genius' again but you can't not love Reid! 10/10
Community (2009)
Tumblr media
Abed. Another one that doesn't really need much to be said about it. Abed is great 10/10
Dr Who (timeless) ((quite literally and figuratively))
Tumblr media
Now this could be considered a reach or projection but Dr Who... autistic! simple as that 10/10
House (2004)
Tumblr media
I had to just throw this one in at the end because its really just another version of 'Holmes' and 'Watson' now as 'House' and 'Wilson'. Sherlock, previously said as autistic means House is also autistic 10/10

TTRPG Class: How to Write
Previous Post: Quasi-Text
First Post: Reading List
This was originally posted in my huge post-mortem on the .dungeon//remastered kickstarter and its success. I’m separating it from that and making it its own thing. I’ll be elaborating some of the smaller points and expanding definitions. Things like that.
Firstly, I will say that if you are trying to be a writer for a company or get hired by someone else? These might not help you. Those companies are looking for you to write like them, which depends upon the project and countless variables I can’t quantify. It’s also an entire skill of its own. Freelance or ghost writing can often be about how well you understand different voices, different systems, and things of that nature. I’m honestly not *the best* at that kind of thing. These tips are specifically to help with the writer’s broader craft; specifically, the craft of TTRPG writing which I have found myself a professional in.
Don’t be boring. If you’re bored, skip it. Delete it. Forget about it.
I picked this up from a screenwriting book way back before I decided to go back to college and while I was deep in the weeds of writing scripts for the movies I had in my head. The original tip-giver said to write “don’t be boring” on a post-it note and slap it on your monitor. I did that for a very long time until the post-it lost its stickiness and fell off in a move.
This is important to TTRPGs because you don’t have to write everything. Even if you think a game needs a thing, if you aren’t excited about it, skip it. Chances are that what you’re excited about will be what you want others to be excited about as well.
2. Have a routine.
I fail at this quite often. Life changes shift my routine and knock it out of whack. But I do know that when I was in college? I had a routine and my writing output was ridiculous. And when I work on a project I tend to settle into a routine that involves waking up, exercise of some kind (usually a walk), shower, ride bike or walk to Library or coffee shop, write as much as I can, and come home to decompress/work on layout.
Each project has had its own routine essentially and it’s important to let those routines form. I think fluidity is important even within the rigidity of the idea of Routine. Each project will have its own life and its own functions within your life. Let yourself discover new ways and new paths to reach the end goal.
3. When writing fiction, aim for 2k words daily.
This is Stephen King’s thing. I used to do this and whenever I am writing *fiction* I still have it as my goal. But it is unattainable a lot of the time. Especially with games writing, where even just 10 words can be the focus of an entire day of work. Don’t beat yourself up over this.
4. Write in paragraphs. Each should be an idea, preferably separated by headers. Otherwise you’re probably saying too much.
Sometimes I write in bullet points, but that’s an outline at best. A paragraph is one of the best tools you have as a writer. But it also allows you to set limits on your ideas so you’re not writing walls of text to describe your magic system or anything else. It helps you figure out your more complex systems and point out the individual ideas that make it up. If you’re writing several paragraphs about one thing? It’s probably several things that you’re trying to wedge into one.
5. Instead of writing a random generator for something, just write the good version of that thing.
6. Make a map. Put your ideas on the map. No more lists or procedural generation.
Personal pet peeve of mine. I’m not huge on random generators. I will always say that, instead of writing 100 random ideas for islands, just write one good island. And if you’ve got more in you after that? Perfect. My goal with Game Writing is to present something that’s worth paying for and worth exploring. Whether it’s a rule book or otherwise. I try to avoid random tables as often as I can.
7. Theme comes later. First, the writing.
This may be contentious. I view the act of writing as an act of discovery. I greatly enjoy Automatic Writing. I tend to follow a very train-of-thought style of writing. It feels similar to a valve that I turn on to clear out and let clean water flow. If I get caught up in the Big Picture, I’ll never get the faucet running. Get everything out of yourself before you begin self-editing. Let it all be laid out so you can look at it and then discover what It is.
8. When writing rules, remember “if…then.”
If a player chooses this option, then this happens. If a player rolls low, then this happens. And so on. This is helpful when simply stating a rule. You don’t want to get burdened by word choice. You want it to be clear and easily understood. If-then statements are easy to understand.
9. Get a good editor and listen to them.
A good editor will tell you you’re wrong. A good editor will ask you to rewrite things because they don’t make sense. A good editor is critical but not malicious. This relationship is mutual and about respect for the work. It’s not about egos or hype. It’s simply about making the best book you can. Also, if you can’t defend a choice you’ve made, then listen to your editor when they tell you to cut it.
10. A great game is made of “catch-all” or “default” rules. Such as, “when in doubt, roll d20. Higher numbers are better.” They’re easily grasped and fill the gaps that all TTRPG texts have.
Yeah. I think all of the games people hold up as “great” have these. PbtA is built entirely on one catch-all rule that has changed the landscape of indie design since it was put on the page. It makes things easier for folks at the table when things are moving away from the text.
11. Your goal is to write one thing that’s True. This is the Work.
This is my goal when writing and sometimes it doesn’t happen. Sometimes I write thousands of words and they’re all useless. And it will always be useless until I find that One True Thing. Sometimes an entire book is just for that One Thing.
12. Refill the tank. Life is important and creates art.
This is what a screenwriting teacher said to me. “Refill the tank.” You have to participate in life to be able to write. That doesn’t mean you have to be extroverted and shit like that. It means that you gotta do things that recharge you. You gotta have experiences. You have to live your life. Have a life.
13. The writer’s job is asking “what if?”
Stephen King might have said this too? I don’t remember. But yeah, I spend a lot of time asking “what if–” and seeing which weird scenarios spark my interest enough to write. For games or for fiction.
14. Read. A lot.
I count audiobooks. But, yeah. You gotta read stuff. Other games, novels, short stories, blogs, comics even. Take in art. It’s actually your number one job as a human. Enjoy art.
15. Go for a walk without music or a book-on-tape or a podcast. Walk and talk to yourself. Ask yourself questions about what you’re working on. Talk to yourself. Be in conversation with yourself. You are complicated and deserve attention.
I mean it :I They say the best ideas come to you in the shower. Well, that’s also true for any quiet, introspective time.
16. Have peers. Not just collaborators or colleagues, people whose work you respect. They should make you want to be better.
I get jealous of other people’s work and that’s how I know. When I’m like, “FUCK! I wish I thought of that!!” Those are the people I wanna talk to haha
17. If things just aren’t coming? Take a break. If you’re feeling aggravated, eat some food, drink some water, and get some rest.
You can’t force it. I know we can’t all take a break whenever we want, but please try.
18. Know yourself. Most people can’t sit alone with themselves. But knowing yourself is paramount. Therapy can help too. Knowing yourself means knowing why you like something, developing taste and not hiding it, knowing where to waste your time and where not to. This takes time. This is the Work.
I learn something new about myself nearly every day. I’m very curious about myself. I’m a studier of Myself. I want to know how it all works up there in my brain. I want to make it make sense.
19. A hex/encounter/dungeon room/story can just be a weird, little guy.
Yeah. You can do Dungeon23 right now by just browsing pinterest and saving a bunch of images of cools NPCs. Your whole dungeon can just be pictures of NPCs that you make up personalities for at the table.
20. Write the game you want to play, not the one you think others will.
I think I wrote this in response to another project I saw at the time. But it’s true at all times. We’re indie designers. Why else are we doing this if not to tell our stories?
21. Make sure your needs are taken care of by the budget before hiring collaborators.
It’s common in the indie TTRPG space to rely on collaborator clout to draw people to your project during crowdfunding. And it’s common for those sorts of things to ruin a project financially. The process will always take longer than you expect, so please make sure YOUR needs are met before you start paying other people. There’s nothing worse than promising a paycheck to someone and having to rescind the offer because something happened and you had to use their money on rent. Like, just please? Care for yourself.
22. No stretch goals.
This is a Me thing. But I say it to everyone who comes to me asking for advice on their first crowdfunded project. Keep it simple. You want to deliver. You don’t want to overpromise. You simply want to be able to do the thing so that you can do another one later. Take it slow.
23. When writing Hurt, the most important thing is that you are human. What you feel is human. What happened to you is also human.
This is about empathy. For your characters and situations they find themselves in. It’s also about honesty. The most biting and beautiful passages of my favorite books have been honest. Because the truth is, when experiencing Hurt, things aren’t so cut and dry in your head. And your reactions might seem weird in hindsight. You might feel ashamed or guilty for not reacting a certain way. Just please have empathy for yourself. The readers will relate to the honesty.
24. End all dialog with “said.” It’s all you need.
This is a good rule because it means you have to choose to break it. Which means you have to think about why you’re breaking it. Which means you can defend breaking it. Which means your editor has to listen to you for once. :P
25. Writing is a skill as much as it is an art. Give it respect. Good writers don’t simply fall out of the womb. They mastered a craft. Not unlike any other skill or discipline. You won’t build a good chair on your first try.
It took me a long time to learn this. Writing is actually very hard and every good paragraph you read is a masterpiece of patience and skill.
26. Find time to write. How else can you be a writer?
I hate including things because I see a silly take on twitter. But yeah, obviously. Writers write.
27. Writing can be lonely, but shouldn't be solitary. No book is made by one set of hands.
This is true of every project I’ve done. Even my most recent effort, Melancholy Island, had my friend Char’s photography in it. Beyond that, I talked to my best friend Coleen frequently about it just to keep my head straight and focused. I also have my discord where I would lament and talk and such. Each of these things are helpful in the process of writing. Don’t isolate yourself.
28. Having an opinion is easy. Having a good one worth defending is the Work. If you have nothing to say, do anything other than write.
This may be more true of non-fiction writing, but it’s true of TTRPGs as well, otherwise you’d just play one of the thousands upon thousands of games that are already out. Figure out why it is you *don’t* want to play them and focus in on that. Your opinion lies somewhere in there.
29. Never submit a first draft.
Like, please? Have more respect for your craft. I think third draft at the earliest. That’s when I usually get an editor.
30. Don’t follow trends.
31. Writing is about making choices. Half measures are worthless. Make a choice. If it’s the wrong choice: that’s fine.
32. When writing games, you’re composing an incomplete text. Otherwise it’s a script. Choosing to write a game over a novel is an important decision.
These are all related.
33. The two ideas circling your head are actually one idea.
I combine ideas that seem disparate all the time. It unlocks the Good Stuff.
34. Take yourself seriously. Listen to yourself. This is how you gain confidence.
35. You need to learn to say, “That’s a bad idea.”
These two both boil down to “have confidence in, and know, your taste.”
36. When writing, ignore the first thing that pops into your head. Ignore the second thing too. The third idea is where the work starts.
I’ve found when running games, the first idea I think of is often the most obvious. The second one ends up being a gimmick or a twist. But the third idea is where the humanity tends to come in. Thinking beyond tropes and cliches to find the Truth you’re trying to say.
37. Western writing traditions are not the world.
I wish I had been taught this in school. Cause the hero’s journey ruined me for a long time.
38. If you aren’t sure if you can or should write something: experience more art. You don’t need permission. You need to broaden your horizons. You’re not the first to tread this path.
We’re hardly ever doing something truly original. Find the blueprints and figure out how to make them yours. Use them to tell your story.
39. If you can’t say why you chose to do something, shut up and listen to your editor.
Yeah! :I
40. The most beautiful critique isn’t worth as much as the most mediocre art.
Keep making art.
41. Copy writing you enjoy. Assimilate it.
I steal ideas, concepts, and techniques from every single thing I read/experience. This is how you become more skilled at your craft.
42. Your job, as a writer, is to make a claim. Any claim. Your art can’t be for everyone. You can’t write for the lowest common denominator. You can’t write for the widest possible audience. Be you. That’s how you find your audience.
You’ve got things to say! Even if you don’t know it yet. That is part of the Work.
If you like my work, support me on patreon!

I love all the recent pixel art you've been posting. They're so charming and it makes me want to play a fangame in your style. I wanna pick up all the little pixel Afton kids and give them a boop. (Also I noticed in your tags you said you weren't sure how you felt about Lizzie's hair and ribbon bounce but it's soooo cute!!!)
Danke schoen! I'm glad you like how they look, since I'm still a little new to pixel art. You're right that they were heavily inspired by Undertale and Deltarune, since I looked to those games' art style for reference. The simplistic style seemed fitting for the FNAF minigames and easy enough for me to pick up as someone new to pixel art, while also still being nice to look at. Even so, I still wasn't 100% sure things came out well, so I'm glad to hear you think they're cute! Also, super relieved that you like Lizzie's hair bounce. She was probably the most dynamic character so I really wanted to do a good job on her sprite.
Also, I noticed your question in the tags of a reblog and sadly, I have to say no, I'm not planning on making a full on game (honestly I'm not even sure where to start). I'm actually working on this for my fic, for the upcoming 'Minigame' chapter. My original idea was to write it in script format, but I'd actually already done the some sprites for a couple of FNAF characters a long time ago for no real reason other than to see if I could, so I thought it might be fun to make use of those instead.
If you're interested, these are some of the other sprites I made when I was doing it just for funsies. Gregory and the ghost Evan didn't get their own sprite sheets, but I have a whole wall of Michael (yes I'm biased). Whence upon a time, I did have a vague idea for a game that involved a ghost Michael helping Gregory in the Pizzaplex, but there were never any plans to actually make the game, just the sprites.

Author Ask Tag

Gently tagging: @pandoras-comment-box @elbritch-kit @clairelsonao3 @thatndginger
1. What is the main lesson of your story (e.g. kindness, diversity, anti-war), and why did you choose it?
Don’t let the past define you. Each MC is weighed down by something in their past: A reputation, a legacy, trauma. They will explore their grief in many ways, and while some of them will overcome it and grow, some will let it consume them.
When I started writing again, it was to help me process some really heavy stuff that I went through last year, and I realized I had let the situation overwhelm me to the point where I didn’t recognize myself anymore. It happens in little ways over time, and I’m sure others have experienced the same thing. I want people to know that the things that have happened to them, the things people have done, they don’t go away. Not completely. But if we learn to accept them and confront the emotions, those things become easier to overcome, and you don’t have to lose yourself in the process.
2. What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding (like real-life cultures, animals, famous media, websites, etc.)?
I’m inspired a lot by nature and animals, tv/movies I love, books, random and weird history facts, fairy tales/folklore. I also experience vivid dreams from time to time and they inspire a lot of my story ideas.
3. What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, help readers grow as a person?
Besides the whole “bring back magic” thing, I think overall the characters in ToL are trying to achieve inner peace for themselves, and I want the same thing. I do want to inspire people to realize that sometimes the greatest empathy you have should be towards yourself. Forgiveness is definitely one of the minor themes, as it has been a key part in my own personal healing process.
For the readers, I just want them to be mindful of tbe complexities of life and of other people. You never know what someone else is really going through.
4. How many chapters is your story going to have?
….more than 2, but less than 100? Honestly, I planned for 15 with ToL but it might go longer. I’m not the one behind the wheel, if I’m being honest.
5. Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?
Original! Both of WIPs are on Ao3 and Wattpad.
6. When and why did you start writing?
I originally began writing when I was 14 when I started role playing on Goodreads. (Yes, that one.) My classmate and I started our own 1x1 and decided to turn it into a novel just casually. I ended up dedicating way more time to it and she stepped away, so I rewrote everything in my style. I finished it during NaNoWriMo a year later and even submitted it for Script Frenzy. That was the only serious writing project I ever did, 99.9% of my time was spent role playing. When my RP buddies started to drift away I got really depressed and ending up not writing for almost 6 years. Started back up again last year and here we are!
7. Do you have any words of engagement for fellow writers of Writeblr? What other writers of Tumblr do you follow?
No one will ever love your writing as much as you do, so you should love it the most! Don’t second guess yourself, and stop comparing yourself to everyone else! You chose to write the story for a reason—if that other person was meant to write it, you wouldn’t be the one kept up at night by story ideas.
I follow so many who have been tagged by other people but too bad:

re: the fate of TMA: Encore
Up to this point, I’ve been able to get most of TMA: Encore posted. But there are some issues that I’ve been struggling with for a while that are really starting to eat away at my ability to continue.
Even though Encore is practically fully written at this point and I’m just getting the planned drawing sections done, the writing itself is still largely what’s giving me the most trouble.
When I started this project in earnest, I was going off of a very rough outline and mostly writing on the fly. That method works fine for a lot of writers, but it turned out to be really difficult for me. I spent very long periods just trying to figure out how to get from plotpoint A to B to C. I eventually cleared some time to sit down and hammer out a proper coherent script. For logistical reasons, I gave myself about a month to get it done. And I did–which was a huge achievement for me. At the same time, as you can imagine, what I came out with was a little raggedy. I’ve been trying to make small edits as I go to smooth things out and pick up on missed opportunities, but I’m honestly starting to think that it’s just breaking other links in the chain.
The other big reason is due to my decaying relationship with horror. I used to love horror movies and video games, and I reveled in body and abstract emotional horror especially. The Thing. 1408. Silent Hill. TMA’s literary horror vibe was a transformative experience for someone who almost never read for fun growing up. It’s one of my favorite stories, period. Unfortunately, traumatic world events and difficult personal experiences have made horror a lot more… horrible to me in recent years. The tension and terror that used to give me catharsis now only causes me genuine stress. Writing horror still works for me though, which I think has also made it harder to keep myself from going overboard. That fucking concrete forest section with Jon gave me shooting pains to reread.
My point is, I just can’t get myself to relisten to TMA anymore or even take it in by summary. This has left me to rely on my own memory to keep the characters and world consistent with canon. Which is a lot like trying to draw a still-life portrait of wax fruit in 100-degree heat.
The worst part comes in realizing just how smart TMA is. Its explorations of the nature of fear and trauma are what inspired me to want to make Encore in the first place. But the structure and depth of it is even more substantial than I realized when I listened to it. For instance, I recently saw a post talking about how tragic Tim’s character is. He’s such a nice funny guy who does his best to roll with everything in S1, and is slowly ground down to a miserable angry stump of who he used to be by the time of his death. It takes years. And it’s not a natural part of his character. I didn’t write Tim that way in Encore. I figured it would be a lot easier to draw that negativity out of him, in the same way that it doesn’t take a lot of prodding to get Jon to misbehave. That interpretation serves the conflict I wanted to write, but it misses the point of his character, I think. There’s a lot of stuff like that in Encore at such a foundational level that it’s hard to level the dissonance when you compare it to the podcast.
Which sucks, because I originally conceived Encore as a retrospective on what the series was like to listen to (until it took so long to make that I pivoted to make it a separate study on the relationship between fear, pain, and agency, and the existential horror of time travel/immortality). I don’t really feel prepared to do any of that if I’m still discovering so much of what makes TMA work. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think unhinged, canonically-inconsistent fanfiction is bad or shouldn’t exist. But that just isn’t what Encore is supposed to be for me.
All this makes me feel really really… bad. A little bit incompetent, but mostly tired. There are only a few chapters left, and the script is mostly ready to go. Man, I don’t know if I want to go through with it though. My creative spirit has had it rough lately, and I’m about to make some big life changes that are going to make it way harder for me to get art stuff done. And, y’know, I’m supposed to be cutting back on the stuff that makes me more worn-out than happy.
I think I mentioned in a post a while ago that I’ve considered stopping before. I’ve had misgivings about the quality of the writing (and the sheer burden of making full pages of art) for a long time. I convinced myself to keep going because I’ve bailed on a lot of projects over the years and was determined to believe in myself and finish this thing. However, following an audit of the work I’ve put into it, I’m realizing that not finishing wouldn’t make the endeavor a complete loss.
The biggest reason that I make anything is because it makes me a better writer and artist. Even if I’m unsatisfied with the result, I feel accomplished that I sat down and wrote a whole script on a really tight deadline. My usual problem with any writing project is that it keeps sitting on the burner, boiling away, ballooning in scope until it’s impossible to finish. I feel like I’ve been able to make a greater level of peace with compromise and cutting down the stuff in my head to get shit out the door.
Also, tone is hard. Voice is hard. They can be even harder when you’re piggybacking off of another creator. Again, I don’t think that a fanwork or guest work necessarily has to have the same voice as the original. You’re different people, after all. A person can certainly train their tone toward a certain idea with effort, but it helps to know what comes naturally to them. I’m still figuring my own voice out, and it turns out that it isn’t this. The void left behind by my horror safe-space appears to have been occupied by a gif of Gir whacking Shinji Ikari over the head with a frying pan at high speed. Even in Encore’s most manic state, I strain to keep myself from pingponging out of bounds with violent emotional hyperactive energy. Maybe I can try sticking closer to writing action and comedy with only a moderate sprinkling of morose horror.
As mentioned last year, I made important realizations about the way I draw comics. I was taught to draw through studio art where putting your all into every piece is usually the goal. But that’s super unsustainable when you have 7-10 “pieces” to make on every single page. Falling apart halfway through a giant project pushed me to find ways to mitigate the workload without radically changing design consistency. That means formatting, rendering, and composition.
Even before that, the whole fear-color mechanic was a joy to build up. And I finally figured out how to do borderless color art! :3
I can bring all these improvements to the new things I do in the future. All the derivation-related issues in this project are making me think it’s time to move on to original stuff, anyway. Let me tell you, there is a ton of stuff I’d like to make.
TLDR; I’m considering not finishing TMA Encore because I think the quality of the writing has fallen apart, and I need to move away from writing horror and fanworks for a while.
So. The other reason I kept going after that long gap last year was because people appeared to be really into the story. I’d like to give you guys the chance to weigh in on how I handle this. Because for all I know, this is all happening in my head and everything is fine. Your options are:
A) Please finish the last few chapters with art, whenever you get around to it.
B) Please post the last of the script without pictures over the next few weeks.
C) Please don’t worry about finishing it.
Your answer won’t be a definitive vote on what I do, but I do want to value your opinion in what I decide. Through it all, I feel really happy that people have been able to enjoy and express opinions on the longest thing I’ve ever kept going. I look forward to whatever comes next.
Thanks!
Rainbow
------------
EDIT:
After careful consideration, I’ve decided to finish posting the whole thing. Chapters will be longer with way less art.
Thank you everyone, for your kind and sincere encouragement and opinions.
:’)
Here’s the next chapter btw

I wrote this as a post on a Youtube video, but it more or less sums up my feelings about the current state of Marvel;
I honestly can't help but feel that Marvel being forced to scale back is a good thing. I've enjoyed many of the Disney + shows, but not everything needs to be a series.
I think if Marvel scales back, spaces out their current movie slate by a few years and continues with the Special Presentations for shows or characters with not a lot of story to them, they should be fine.
Really, the bigger problem is they need to start hiring actual talent to write and direct their films again. Hiring people with not a lot of experience is fine, but they shouldn't be put in such high places like head of story or given screenwriting duties before they've even proven themselves. You do that, you start catering to the lowest industry hacks who don't know or care why we like these characters to begin with, which goes against Marvel's Mission Statement.
If Marvel wants to get back on top, they need to start courting established writers and filmmakers to make these projects for them. Get someone like Guilermo Del Toro for DS3, or hell, even Kevin Smith, who loves Marvel to direct a film for them. Even if he just directs it while someone else writes the script, it'd be better than nothing.
Anyway, that's just my two sense on the matter.
Here’s the original video if you wanna check it out:

Headcanon: so I only just got here, but I definitely get the sense you've been wading in the FFVII water a long time!
[For this game, where you can submit HC you might have about me.] [Still taking asks!]
HAH. So long. So, so long.
I was nine when the original FF7 released, and I vividly remember watching my cousin, who was twelve or thirteen, play it on his PlayStation the winter of 1997 because he got it for Christmas. I fell in love with Tifa in the early Midgar scenes. I then begged for my own console and copy of the game until I finally got my own console in 1999. Unfortunately for me, my mother bought me the "new" Final Fantasy game (FF8) that had just released, not realizing that they were radically different games. I didn't get to buy my own copy of FF7 until I'd saved up enough money to do so, which was probably another six months or so? Maybe even another year.
Now, don't get me wrong, I love FF8. I probably love FF8 a little more than I love FF7. There's a certain... Mm. I'm not sure. I don't know that I can really explain why I love FF8 more.
But I have written far, far more for FF7 than I ever have for anything else. I've spent way more hours engrossed in RP and meta and fan projects over the years (I've been a part of two separate novelization attempts of the OG, both of which fell apart due to shipping wars back before AC released) and at this point... My time spent with FF7 has affected a lot of things about me, from how I approach media to how I write.
I started with RP for FF7 back when I was... eleven or so? I'd found where someone had posted a script, read the whole thing before I ever got to play it, and joined an old e-mail based RP, where everyone had different characters and like, it was a mad free-for-all where any one of like, eight people could reply after someone else posted in it. I started out with an OC Turk, but then rapidly ended up with Reeve and Reno both and I just... never let go of either of them?
So now, here I am, 35 and still writing these two bastards. As well as a whole host of other FF7 characters now. So I guess next year, I get to start saying I've been in the fandom for a full 25+ years. It's kind of crazy, honestly?

My full review of Hocus Pocus 2
I watched Hocus Pocus 2 a few days ago and I have posted a few times about it but now I will write my complete review.
Like most Disney properties today there is a cynical sense of corporate oversight.  I actually do love this movie but there’s no mistaking some of the heavy handed actions of Disney overlords.
Hocus Pocus 2 begins with two teenage girls (I was mislead into thinking it would be three but the third doesn’t join them until near the end) accidentally bringing The Sanderson Sisters back from the dead... again.  The Sanderson Sisters are to Disney what Dracula was for Hammer Horror. They always come back.
I’ll start with the negative and work my way out to the positive. There’s a lot of positive.  I actually really liked the movie.
A chunk of the movie (and even one of the end lines) felt like a shameless plug or out-right commercial for Walgreens.  Yes, it was fun watching the three incompetent witches wandering a Walgreens like the deleted grocery store scene from the first movie (never released but clips of it and script exerts can be found online).  But at the same time it felt like a commercial.  A funny commercial but still a commercial.
I am glad they let the witches sing together twice. The Witches are Back (to the tune of Sir Elton John’s The Bitch’s back) was too short (in my opinion).  They should have had a longer song for their revival.  I am honestly a little surprised they didn’t just make the whole film a musical.  The director of the original Hocus Pocus did Newsies (a childhood favorite).
The new stage show scene where the witches sing a cover of Blondie’s One way or Another (with a few lyrics changed) is extremely catchy.   It’s one of those songs that annoyingly gets stuck in your head.
To my surprise there was some nods to real modern day (non-Satanic)  m magick and occultism.  The mention of Maiden, Mother, and Crone, which used to just be subtly referenced with Winfried, Mary, and Sarah Sanderson is used genuinely here.  And the use of salt to protect against dark magick (which is in the first film but used more in the second), as well as angelica leaves to lift hexes.  And yes, some magick shops do offer Angelica leaves for free if someone thinks they’ve been cursed.
The story is predictable, sweet, and wholesome with themes about sisterly love, even with the Sanderson Sisters themselves.  There were some minor retcons about the wtiches’ backstory such as where Winifred got the book and Billy’s relationship with her but both of those things had been told to us in the first film through hearsay so it makes sense that it wouldn’t be accurate.
I actually thought it was a pleasant surprise to have Winifred Sanderson (Bette Midler) show genuine love for her sisters near the end, revealing that she would rather die than be without them.  That was actually kind of sweet.  And some part of me kind of wants to see a story where the Sanderson Sisters redeem themselves.  They’re bungling idiots as evil witches.  Let’s see them bungle their way through redemption.
It turns out the three teenage girls (one in particular) are destined to be a coven of good witches.  You get a little backstory of Winifred and her sisters as children and Winifred is given her grimoire (spell book) by a witch in the woods.  There are some subtle hints that this witch is their biological mother but nothing is confirmed.  And upon first encounter the witch planned to feed on little Sarah’s soul.  This would be odd for a mother but considering things...  she could be twisted enough to do it.
If you remember the first film there is a bit where the witches talk briefly about “Mummy scorpion pie” and it makes them think of mother.  This suggests their mother is a witch so yes, I suspect the witch in the woods was their mother. The witch they meet also has the power to turn into a bird. I would like to see The Sanderson Sisters turn into animals.  Winifred compared herself to a hawk, which would be ironic since the first film’s anniversary edition said she has poor eyesight and hawks are known for their sight.  And Mary already behaves very dog-like. She even barks and sniffs things out like a blood hound or wolf.
There are two hints for Hocus Pocus 3. The first is that the girls walk off with Winifred’s spell book and a bird is following them. The bird very much looks like the one that turned into the witch that gave Winifred the spell book to begin with.   I also will note that I think the main reason that witch forbid Winifred from casting the spell to make her all powerful is she knew it would cost her, her sisters.  I think the witch-mother had cast the same spell once (which is why she’s now immortal) and it had cost her her own coven.  But if she had cast the spell why did she behave as if she was going to feed on little Sarah in the 1650s?  A test to see if Winifred would protect her and thus a worthy coven leader? Oh, there is also a nice homage to the 1960s Dark Shadows.  A menacing Reverend Trask gives The Sanderson Sisters a hard time as children in the 1650s and his descendant (played by the same actor) exists in present day Salem as Mayor Traske (The poor guy just wanted a caramel apple through the whole movie.  I felt bad for him).  In the 60s TV show Dark Shadows, Reverend Trask was an eighteenth century witch hunter antagonist whose descendant (played by the same actor) was in present day Collinsport Maine.   This was a clever homage for Dark Shadows fans.  I wonder how many people even noticed it.  The math is a bit off for the Sanderson Sisters to be elderly in the 1690s.  Based on the dates in the film Winifred should only be in her fifties in 1693.  Bette Midler was forty-seven when she first played Winifred Sanderson in the first film and that was her look when she de-aged.  She looked ninety or so at the very start before feeding on Emily Binx for youth so their childhooods should definitely have been before the 1650s but if you ignore this it's still a fun movie.
The second hint for Hocus Pocus 3 is the bonus scene after the end credits.  Gilbert had apparently made a second black flame candle.  Cobweb (his cat) shows it to us as a bonus scene.   I don't think Gilbert would commit murder (even of two bullies left hanging in cages in the Sanderson house) so how did he make the black flame candle?  The first film said it was made from the fat of a hanged man.   Some fans have hinted that Gilbert may have killed Jay and Ice (the bullies) but that doesn't seem to true his character or to Disney for that matter.  Stephen King, yes, Disney, no.   Was there a loophole- i.e. using fatty food made by the two after they were hung from ages?  (fat of hanged men)?
I love Gilbert, by the way.  A little self-serving but ultimately good, he is an occult expert and magick shoppe owner while also being a bit incompetent.  I have a soft spot for incompetent sorcerers.  I also liked the inversion that the girls were surprised and grossed out that he’s not a virgin instead of like in the first movie where it was treated as a point of shame that the sixteen-year-old protagonist was still a virgin, a very odd thing for a Disney film.   One of the best lines is when The Sanderson Sisters are referred to as the “Goth Golden Girls.”
Honestly, I wouldn’t mind it if Hocus Pocus was continued as a TV series even if they had to use new actors for The Sanderson Sisters. The ones they used for the Disney World Spooktacular stage show every Halloween are decent.
To me The Sanderson Sisters are like Disney’s version of The Wicked Witch of the West.  Though bungling and Three Stooges-like they have become iconic and I think versions of them should walk around the Disney parks all year long, not just for Halloween. I think that the characters are popular enough that they can be used outside of the Halloween season.  I actually really liked Hocus Pocus 2 but then again I have a soft spot for The Sanderson sisters.   I kind of hope they get a TV show or third movie and that they let it be a full on musical next time instead of just two songs per movie.
I had heard that there was a deleted scene of The Sanderson Sisters in purgatory. I hope Disney releases that deleted scene one day. Perhaps it tied to the recording studio bit on the end credits (where they again sing “The Witches are back.”)  Imagine that, a recording studio in purgatory.
I also heard the movie originally had a different ending but test audiences didn’t like it so they had to go back and reshoot the ending back in June.  The original filming was for three months in the autumn of 2021.  I am curious to know what that original ending was though I do admit to thinking it was sweet, the ending we got, that Winifred would rather die than be without her sisters. That was actually endearing, the confirmation that she genuinely loves them.  It makes them more likable antagonists, I think.
They definitely softened The Sanderson Sisters here in Hocus Pocus 2. In the first movie they were more violent and prone to killing. Here it felt like they just wanted power so it was less-evil. Part of me wouldn’t be surprised if someone decided to give them a redemption story in show or movie form with The Witches are Back as the theme song.
It was cheesy but it was fun, just like the first Hocus Pocus movie. The first Hocus Pocus came out when I was eleven-years-old so you need to watch it with your mindset as that of a child. It helps you appreciate the sweet corniness of the over-all plot.  It’s delicious cheese.  Embrace the cheese.
I’d say it’s on par with the first Hocus Pocus movie.  Not better but close.  You have to appreciate both Hocus Pocus movies as cheesy, wholesome, Halloweeny fun.  And yes, I would like some incarnation of The Sanderson Sisters all year long. I think Disney should consider making a show out of the characters if not the hinted at third movie.
Hell, maybe even a Maleficent / Hocus Pocus crossover. That would be fantastic. I adore Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent.  That’s pretty much the only Angelina Jolie role I like.  Imagine it, the dark faerie vs. The Sanderson sisters or having to work together for some reason.
Just don’t be so blatant with the Walgreens commercial next time. That was shameless.

As a person who enjoys Engage I find your fascination with hiding genuine criticisms of the writing behind some apparent "translation issue" when in reality, both works can be considered their own works that do not interact with each other to be appalling, especially considering you yourself never mentioned being someone who actually read the original script yourself and instead works off of a fan's translation, as much of an adaptation as the real translation.
You can't expect people who don't like Engage to suddenly be fond of it because some randoms on the internet say the "right" way to read it is locked behind knowing another language or vaguely understanding what was changed.
It's honestly incredibly saddening to see that this is how people defend the game that I from the bottom of my heart enjoy on nearly every front.
Alright.... I really didn't know what to answer but hum
"You can't expect people who don't like Engage to suddenly be fond of it because some randoms on the internet say the "right" way to read it is locked behind knowing another language or vaguely understanding what was changed."
Why do you believe I am adressing to people who don't like Engage ? Just why ? Why don't you think that I am sharing this knowledge with actual fan of the game who maybe are interested to see the differences with the original text ? Besides, since you enjoy the game as well, shouldn't you be idk happy that someone actually takes the time to share the OG dialogue ? Anyway.
"As a person who enjoys Engage I find your fascination with hiding genuine criticisms of the writing behind some apparent "translation issue" when in reality, both works can be considered their own works that do not interact with each other to be appalling, especially considering you yourself never mentioned being someone who actually read the original script yourself and instead works off of a fan's translation, as much of an adaptation as the real translation."
I'd love for you to tell me what are the "genuine critcisms" in question. Really. Cause each time someone attempted at "genuine criticism" it ends up with me wondering how they managed to miss something so simple in a plot that's really not trying to be convoluted. Somehow people missed Lumera's explanation that she didn't knew Sombron was reviving when it was the freaking early game. Somehow, they will claim that Alear is never shown as scared when they have 4 cutscene showing how they nearly died because they were sooooo paralzyed they couldn't move. Somehow, they will ask themselves how Alear could summon the Emblems when the portal was closed even though Sombron and Alear said 3 times in less then 30 seconds that the portal was still open. You know. Stuff like that.
"Both works can be considered their own work that do not interact with each other"... Anon. Do you know how translation works ? Just to give you an idea. I am a literary student. For now 10 years, soon 11 and in the near future 12 years, I have studied literature... In all language. I had to learn English, I had to learn Spanish, I had to learn Ancient Greek and Latin. And by that, I mean reading it. I don't do commentaries of Shakeshapeare or Jekyll and Hide in my original language. I do them in English. And the reason why, I already explained it in the post. It doesn't matter how faithful the translation are, nothing will change the essential fact that the original text in JP as nuances and subtleties that cannot be translated or rendered in another language.
And I really disagree with you because a translation work is supposed to offer access to people to a text whose language they cannot understand ! That's the whole point, that the translation is supposed to help you and me and everyone who cannot understand this other language. Ignoring this aspect who is essentialy the whole point of a traduction is literaly a joke by this point Anon.
If you really think changing one word doesn't mean anything, let me tell you you are wrong. Just to give an example.
Someone recently shared the translation for Alcryst's boss dialogue against his double in the Xenologue vs the localized text
Tumblr media
This may seem like a small change but in reality it is not. The Eng text is saying that Aclryst is projecting his own weakness on his double to disturb him = XenoAlcryst is not weak.
However in the JP text he is implying that he sees Alcryst as a reflection of his weakness, meaning that in reality he is just as insecure as Alcryst is and just take a facade to sound powerful. Bet you whatever you want that it's because in this world too Alcryst was constantly compared to Diamant.
Those sentence have completely different meaning and gives a complete different view of Alcryst.
That's why by no stretch of the imagination you can say that a translation is as valid as the OG text and can work as its own thing. Nope. Never. This never worked like that. A translator, localizer or whatever have you as NO authority on the text. 0. Nada. Niet.
A translator is not the author, nor the writer. It's someone like you and me : a reader. A reader who will use their own understanding of a story and intepretation to try to offer a translation of the original text so that others like him can understand it.
This is why even today very old text like Esope's fable are given to people like me to translate from the Ancient Greek to the English and French. Because a translation has 0 validity over the og text, meaning that all translation provided that they respect a certain code are valid and by certain code I mean : NOT. CHANGING. THE.ORIGINAL.MEANING.
By that I am not saying if you translated あなたは素敵な人です by "you are a sweetheart" instead of "you are a nice person". By that I am saying that if you have an arabic fairytale about an old sheikh walking with a gazelle in the desert and that you translate the word ghazal by "deer" ! Of course, deers live in the desert !! Sure !!
If one translated text was enough, you wouldn't have so many editions with different twist and translation of a same text to the same language. That's because there is as many way to translated a text as there is reader on this freaking planet, so the only way to go and understand what the original text really say is by reading the text written by the actual people who have authority on the text, the authors, the writers ! So yeah there is a "right" way to read it and it's absolutely by "knowing another language or vaguely understanding what was changed" that you can achieve that. Speaking as someone who does this EVERY DAY since I keep translating things. English isn't my first language, so every time I talk with someone using English, I have to translate it myself. Even now, I am doing this. Even now, I have a project to do which will involve me reading text in ARABIC and GERMAN. Because those are the original language those text were written. Those are the language spoken by the author, the culture of the author, the social medium of the author, the environement of the author etc. Saying that the English version as as much authority as the Japanese version and can work as an indepedent entity is complelely ignoring this. This is in fact, a point of view frankly egocentric and ethnocentric. This is admitting that you simply don't wanna hear about the original text written by the actual authors and prefer to deal with some translation offered by people who simply do not know their boundaries * handwaves at Fates and 3H*
Speaking of which, I do translation for Doujin songs as a hobby. Hatuski Yura, Unlucky Morpheus... stuff like that. It's just one translation among many others. You will find some better then me at that, but nothing will change the fact at the end, I nor any of the people who translated them as authority over the text.
"especially considering you yourself never mentioned being someone who actually read the original script yourself and instead works off of a fan's translation, as much of an adaptation as the real translation."
I made a literal freaking whole post about why I use the OG script. I even use actual screenshot of the JPN version in my post. The translation that is posted in my post are all MINE's. That I do after reading the text and some searches in the dictionnary. It really doesn't take much : just use Google traduction, reverso traduction and deepl to compare the different result, read the romanji, search the term for said of said kanji and booom. I do that ever since I had translation classes. You know. The one that had me learn English, Spanish, Latin, Greek. The one who would ask me to read a text in Latin and make a full 6 hours of translation (2 Hours) and making a literary commentary of this text in LATIN. Just to give you an idea. The stuff I do, I and the ENTIERTY of the literary analysis faculty. If you really think that you can put the translated text on the same level as the OG, you are completely mistaken. Really. By your logic, me and the entierty of literary analysis faculty are wrong for making commentaries using the OG text. Besides, that's completely ignoring a lot of factors. Is it really respectuous to the author to say that instead of judging what they actually wrote, we are gonna judge what someone else wrote ? Really ? So, if I want to do an analysis on Etie, I have to give up on the JPN version or think that ENG Etie is just as valid even though she had NOTHING in common with the character that the writers had in mind ? Is it really fair ? No. It's not. Localization isn't the equivalent of a fan cover. If I analyse the translated text, I am not analysing Komuro's writing. I am analysing a rendering in another language among so many other way to translated it.
"It's honestly incredibly saddening to see that this is how people defend the game that I from the bottom of my heart enjoy on nearly every front."
Then how do you want me to defend it, Anon, if I don't have the right to use the OG version as a reference ? Do you want me to defend the localized text ? In that case, it's no longer the writing I am defending, but a certain translation choice ! Literary commentary and traductology are two different things you know ? If I am judging the writing, I am not judging the translation. If I am judging the translation, I am not judging the writing. Common logic.
Unless you want me to tell people that the JPN version is better then the localized one ? If we gonna insist on seeing it as separeted independent entities which they pretty much are not
Anyway, if you are SOOOO disappointed, how about... you defend the game yourself ? How about that ? Instead of trying to lecture me who spend time and energy over looking for the original script, translating it, commenting on it and sharing it in the different analysis I made ? Hm ? After all, you yourself said you "enjoyed it on nearly every front" so why not ? I am sure you would love to defend it right ? Or see people defending it ? In fact, it's quite surprising you aren't please to hear that the game has a better story then people give it credit for but that sadly a lot of subtleties was lost in translation.

edgy creepy pasta au i doodled to pass the time today :) I dont feel like finishing it but i put too much effort in not to post lol..................................
here’s the whole script i wrote for mewmewstabbykilly if u want.....i ended up writing way too much cuz i was trying to emulate that kind of video.............i was just making shit up tho so idk how cohesive (or like...... good) it is n u can probably just ignore it if u want :)
The year 1997 had held such promise for former pawnshop owner, turned overnight TV superstar, Spamton G. Spamton. His hit original gameshow "DO YOU WANNA BE A [BIG SHOT]?" was being enjoyed by human and monster families alike all over the country. And his eccentric but endearing personality as the show's host, "MR. BIG SHOT", had the network calling for his own late night talk show......But on September 17 1997 Mr. Big Shot stopped picking up the phone.
When he failed to arrive to the set of "DO YOU WANNA BE A [BIG SHOT]?" that morning, the crew was concerned. Spamton had never missed a taping before in the shows 7 season run. All calls made to the missing host would mysteriously fail to go through. Wanting to keep the shows record going, producers sent a stage assistant to Spamton's apartment to see if they could bring him in.
This guy's landlord must've SUCKED by the way!!!! Allegedly this stranger stage hand walked right up to him and was like "Hey I work with your celebrity tenant! let me in his apartment!" AND HE DID!!!! LIKE???? WHAT IS THAT???? Anyway. They get the door open and BAM!!! Couple minutes later the cops are on their way. Spamton G. Spamton is dead.
Details on this case are kinda..... fuzzy!! There was like next to NO news coverage, and the only case reports I could find are like......... heavily redacted for some reason???? But from what I can put together, they found Spamton sitting on his couch next to his landline, receiver in hand, all dressed up like he was just about to head down to the lot. Only y'know. He was dead. The report also said that the phone was just emitting a "garbage noise"?? Whatever that means?? Static I guess... Is that something old phones did?? I dunno... That phrasing just really stuck out to me.
The coroner states that they couldn't determine a cause of death, but said that he was unharmed barring of course his, and I quote, "heavily mutilated face". HEAVILY MUTILATED FACE!!!! I'M NO EXPERT BUT THAT SOUNDS LIKE A CAUSE OF DEATH TO ME!!!! There isn't even a description OF the mutilation!!!! Like COME ON!!!! I'm trying to make a viewtube video over here!!!! LET ME INFORM MY AUDIENCE!!!! I couldn't even figure out what the cops ruled it!!!! Honestly, I'd seen reruns of this guy's show before, but I hadn't EVER heard of this case until someone emailed me about it......
While I was digging through old true crime forums as research for this video I managed to come across what's SUPPOSSED to be an autopsy image of the head, but I couldn't find anything to support this...... The picture was already censored when it was posted, and I..... Didn't really want to look for the original..... It's not like I would've put it in here anyway, I'm not a weirdo. But this version is PG enough to put in this video, since it's like..... the only other thing I could find on the subject. I kinda hate looking at it though hahaha.

🩰 | HOW I LOOK AT MANIFESTATION.
This is a repost, the original post was accidentally deleted!
This might be contradictory to what other people are saying, but this is my journal and these are my assumptions. I have already changed myself within by setting these rules and honestly? The law of assumption is all about what you think works for you ♡ Since making these rules, living in the end has been so easy for me and it's really helped me build the discipline I needed all along. I knew manifesting could be fun, but now that I know what I know, manifesting is actually fun!
════════════════════════════════════ ✧❁༺ ˎˊ-
🌙⊹✧ The rules I've set for myself when it comes to manifesting and what's happened since I started using them.
1. I don't need to believe, or persist, creation is finished.
↳ since I decided this, 'persisting' became 100x easier! I found myself persisting in the fact that creation was finished naturally because suddenly it was no longer a requirement to something I already have.
2. Any positive and/or well thought out desire I have instantly finds me in my 3D on its own. Every desire I have is a premonition that manifests instantly. ↳ i stopped dwelling on negative things/beliefs. I've made them powerless. My mind's eye also got stronger, even though I don't usually visualize I've been so obsessed with living in my imagination because I now see my desires and even better than my desires so vividly that they seem like memories of real-life now. I also became super detached because I don't need to look at the 3D for my desires anymore, they just find me.
3. I don't care, it's already happened instantly and I have already experienced it.
↳ everytime I have any sort of doubt or whatever, I automatically remind myself that I really don't care too much about something that's already happened. Thinking from the end and being nonchalant/impotent has gotten so much easier for me.
4. My Godliness is impervious to mortal poisons and limits, my mortal poisons don't do anything and my mortal poisoning can't stop my desires from manifesting, let alone anything outside of me. ↳ i decided that the parts of me that doubt, envy other people, are playing a waiting game etc. simply don't have power over me anymore. Literally in a matter of seconds, I started to view success stories as motivational truths and knew, I can have that, I can have more than that, instead of I wish I could have that as quickly as they did etc. everytime I feel a doubt coming on, which only happened like, twice, yesterday, I didn't even think twice to remind it that I already have what I wanted and why should God find anything difficult or suffer from intrusions and uncertainty?
════════════════════════════════════ ✧❁༺ ˎˊ-
🌙⊹✧ What I do to manifest from now on.
1. Have a desire. These aren't things I want anymore, they're signals for what I'm about to get/already have.
2. Sometimes, I specify my desire however I want, if I feel like it (scripting, deciding, making a vision board).
3. I assume I have it and I've already experienced it. Then I detach, occupy myself and work on my self-concept if I feel like it. (opt. but this is what I love to do) I write my own subliminals by turning my vaunts into audio. I only listen to one sub for about 15 minutes a day, because I know that 1) they must work for me instantly, 2) they're an easy way to affirm/vaunt when I don't feel like using my voice or whatever 3) I've given them the power to work for me on my behalf. I listen to two subliminals; my self-concept subliminal and my detachment subliminal. I'm making a third one eventually for someone else.
4. The only time I think of my desires is to think from it. This happens naturally now though. If I spiral, again this only happened twice, I realized if I just write down my problem, I get something close to my answer. I also just ask for an answer and it shows up soon after. This is what I'm doing right now, and honestly, it's the happiest and most confident I've been! I've manifested a few things in the past, from making my brother have healthier life habits, helping one of my good friends shift realities, manifesting money from an uncle who's always been stingy with me etc. but even then there was still a lot of overconsumption and spiralling going on, like every few days. I was in a space where I couldn't manifest certain things and I really didn't know why (I couldn't even visualize no matter how hard I affirmed) But with this mindset, I've dropped nearly everything I did before and pretty much all my negative beliefs in a matter of hours. I've started seeing my desires clearly in my imagination and in my dreams.
(Literally last night, I told my sister/very good friend that I went to sleep and woke up in the living room of my ideal home. In fact, I'm manifesting multiple homes and this one is my first. I had a few pictures in my vision board to give me an idea, but I didn't include a living room. I spent a whole evening in the most beautiful space I'd ever seen, felt the salt of the sea rushing in and being soothed by the waves crashing on the shore. I spent the evening painting and animating when I didn't have the time, know-how or resources just before.) It was 'just a dream', but when it comes to the law of assumption, nothing is fiction, I know what I want has already found me!
love, golden 🕯️

do you think the jedi prohibit 'frivolous uses of the force'?? because i see it a lot in fic but i swear i distinctly remember obi-wan using the force to pull a literal chair over lmfao
Yoooo, I've been wanting to write a post about that for like a week xD Okay, so here's the thing: I started answering this one, confident that I knew where the use of the word 'frivolous' came from - but it turned out that I was wrong, so I'm actually a bit baffled about its origin. But here goes:
(@cacodaemonia I know you were interested in this topic?)
No, I don't think the Jedi prohibit that. I don't think the Jedi even have 'frivolous' use of the Force as a concept. The idea that they prohibit it, or at least frown upon it, is very likely rooted in the AotC scene of Anakin levitating a piece of fruit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wookieepedia cites that scene and that scene only on the topic of frivolousness in the page on Telekinesis.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But the word frivolous isn't used in that scene! Who came up with it? Obi-Wan being grumpy about Anakin levitating the fruit could mean just about anything. Maybe Jedi frown upon showing off in front of a diplomat you're meant to be protecting in a professional way. Maybe Obi-Wan and only Obi-Wan disapproves of Anakin levitating stuff because he kept doing it around the apartment as a kid, just to be a little shit. Maybe Jedi frown upon playing with your food with the Force, which wouldn't necessarily be linked with it being 'frivolous' but just with 'don't be gross.'
Now I thought it came from the novelization using that specific word, but it doesn't! The novelization is based on the original script as opposed to the dialogue in the movie (it actually came out before the movie, so that's why) and the scene is longer in them both and seems to confirm what I said about how it could mean a lot of other things (because he isn't just levitating it originally, he's playing with it):
Tumblr media
(novelization)
PADME: You did that? [ANAKIN looks up - wide-eyed innocence.] ANAKIN: What? [PADME scowls at him. PADME jabs at the fruit - ANAKIN subtly moves his hand and it lifts up from the plate and hovers in front of her.] PADME: That! Now stop it! [PADME laughs. ANAKIN laughs. She reaches out for the fruit - it loops.] PADME (continuing): Anakin!! [ANAKIN moves his fingers. The fruit flies into his hand.] ANAKIN: I'm not really supposed to do that... for fun, I mean. If Master Obi-Wan were here, he'd be very grumpy. [ANAKIN is pleased. He cuts the fruint (sic) into several pieces and sends one back to PADME. She bites it out of the air and laughs.]
(script)
Even taking Anakin at face value, this does not say there is an Order-wide ban on 'frivolous' uses of the Force. Again, maybe Force-assisted food shenanigans are frowned upon. Maybe Anakin isn't supposed to mess with people with the Force for fun. Maybe it's just Anakin assuming, as he sometimes does.
I think 'frivolous' might come from one of the EU books - it's not from No Prisoners (the Karen Travis TCW book) though, so I have no idea who might have used it in that context first??
Anyway, the issue in fic is that 'frivolous' is often confused with 'casual.' Hence the Obi-Wan thing imo.
One, 'frivolous' is judgy - it gives it a sense of sin, something that the Jedi... don't seem to have that much of a concept of? Dressing 'immodestly' isn't condemned, for example. I don't see the Order as a whole (there are sticks in the mud everywhere) having a thing against a concept as vague as 'frivolousness.' I mean... Yoda? His whole idea of fun is to mess with people and cackle, and his teaching methods include massive trolling, teasing the grown-up Masters with his gaggle of kiddos and whatnot. You cannot tell me Yoda never tugged on somebody's cloak to make them trip.
Two, frivolous and casual aren't the same thing. Obi-Wan pulling the chair falls into the casual use category imo - and yes, we do see him and others do this kind of casual stuff many times! (Off the top of my head: Obi-Wan grabs the map-ball thingy from the map-reader in AotC - in front of younglings, so there's no fear of a bad example being set - Yoda calls his stick to his hand in AotC, Obi-Wan pulls a chair in TCW s2, Jedi call their lightsabers to them all the time - though it's usually in combat settings, so it doesn't necessarily count, Obi-Wan closes a door in AotC - I think Ewan was the one who thought it'd be neat to do it? Idk...)
And I don't agree that "it goes to show their hypocrisy" or whatever. What, because we assume that's what Anakin meant in the AotC scene and because we assume it's 100% an Order-wide thing, and we assume that the Jedi would view using the Force for daily tasks as frivolous, then every single instance of Jedi using the Force for simple every day stuff is hypocritical?! Even though floating freaking fruit around somebody's head and pulling up a chair are absolutely not the same thing? The latter is something you would do no matter whether you use the Force or not - pulling a chair is a normal thing to do. Playing with fruit around someone is a rude thing to do. There's a difference whether or not 'frivolous' stuff is frowned upon.
And also, using the Force is a natural thing. The Jedi do it like they breathe - it's all around them and they're aware of it constantly, and it's not always something they can turn on or off. It's natural that they would use it for daily stuff, and the level of respect that comes attached with using it would necessarily vary from one Jedi to the other. Just look at Quinlan. What, jumping out of a gunship to make an entrance isn't frivolous? Well, Quinlan is a Master, so his views on it are just as valid - just as Jedi - as anybody else's. (Plus Obi-Wan - the Council Member - gives him grief for being late, not for just for being ridiculous, so again - rudeness.)
I can see some Masters being against using the Force with carelessness - and yeah, I can also see some Masters being against using it in a 'fun' way - because you have to be careful with that stuff, but it probably would generate debate. There wouldn't be a definite consensus on what is too much and what isn't.
If "the Jedi all frown upon casually using the Force" is something that Lucas intended to convey in the movie, please correct me and give me a source.
Though it is also entirely possible that Obi-Wan was meant to be a bit hypocritical about it - because he and Anakin have their tensions, and as somewhat of a parental figure it's only natural that he would scold Anakin for stuff that isn't that big of deal, or that he himself has done, because that's what every person who's ever been in charge of a younger person has done at some point. So sure, maybe Obi-Wan scolded Anakin for being too casual with the Force? But I still don't see it as a Big Rule that is in the Jedi Code That Must Not Be Violated and that get you Shamed and Shunned if you dare to have fun with the Force.
(Honestly, it reminds me of 'your Lightsaber is your Life' thing, and Ahsoka and Anakin both separately whining that their Master was going to kill them for losing/breaking theirs. There's a certain level or respect and care expected, the Masters (or... only Obi-Wan and Anakin, lol) nag a bit, aren't always careful enough themselves, the kids make a big deal out of it in front of other people, but ultimately there are zero repercussion whatsoever for actually failing to follow the Master's nagging. Like, Jocasta tells Ahsoka Anakin would totally understand, and it's Ahsoka who insists he wouldn't and makes it into a big thing.)
Again, having Masters tell their students to be respectful of the Force and not to treat it like a joke? Sure. Showing off with the Force in a rude manner being called 'frivolous,' and it being a bad thing? I could see it. Having Masters get pissy about pulling chairs, closing doors or whatever - about doing things you can do with your hands with the Force instead? Maybe, but it wouldn't be an Order-wide thing.
One thing's for certain, we never see a Master directly scolding a student for using the Force casually in the Prequels, the OT or TCW, much less calling it 'frivolous.'
So yeah, gimme Jedi levitating stuff to clean up under the furniture xD

What If We Kissed At The Library (& Then Got Each Other Off)? JK...Unless // Spencer Reid x Fem!Reader
Tumblr media
‼️18+, Minors DNI‼️
Summary: Spencer & his girlfriend (the reader) visit the local library. Smut ensues.
Warnings: handjob, public (but sneaky) (spoiler alert they do NOT get caught but still -), slight exhibitionism, fingering, established relationship, kinda fluffy very smutty
Word Count: ~2k
**originally posted on my ao3, link in my about!**
“God, I love this place,” you said, gazing up at the large, familiar building up ahead, the sun glaring down on you harshly from the sky. Your boyfriend, walking beside you, got a certain glint in his eye. You knew what was coming; you knew it, and you absolutely loved it - fun facts incoming!
“You know, the first libraries consisted of archives of the earliest form of writing - clay tablets written in cuneiform script, which were originally discovered in Sumer. Some dated back as far as 2600 BCE.”
“I didn’t know that,” you said earnestly, tugging on the door handle, glad your hand was occupied so you could keep it from teasingly pinching Spencer’s adorable cheeks - a form of endearment he often swatted away with a blush. “I mean, I knew about Sumer and Mesopotamia and all that, but I didn’t know it was the origin of the first written language. Or I guess maybe I did know, and forgot.”
He strolled in and you followed.
“The history of the written word is so fascinating. Reading about the way language has changed over time and for what reasons is one of my favorite subjects.”
“Well then it’s a good thing we’re here,” you said, a bit quieter as the pair of you walked past the information desk and the eyes (and ears) of the on-duty librarians. The cooling blast from the A/C felt like a godsend and you sighed. Spencer followed your lead up the steps to the second floor, which held most of the library’s collection. It was vast and colorful and welcoming, the shelves stretching out to greet you like a tree with too many branches. It smelled so comforting, the carpet and wood and paper. You breathed it in. You were home.
You started in the world history section, watching Spencer run his fingers over the spines, silently reading the titles to himself. He was so beautiful. You couldn’t help but admire him, even doing something as normal and relatively mundane as this. He could never be mundane, not to you, with his shoulder length curls, his pink pouty lips, his slender, tall frame. Spencer Reid, wearing a cardigan in 85 degree weather, his light olive skin tinted red from the heat, with one hand on his leather satchel, the other ghosting over books at remarkable speed. He looked like Cabanel’s fallen angel, but more angelic, more ethereal. He looked like perfection in dark jeans. His tongue swiped out for a moment to wet his bottom lip and that was enough.
Without saying a word, you slipped a finger under the hand that was gripping the satchel strap, tugging his hand into yours. Though he was still scanning the shelves, he reciprocated instantly, intertwining your fingers and giving your palm a gentle squeeze. He pulled you along down the aisle, occasionally sliding a book out to scan its front cover and back before returning it to the shelf.
“What were you thinking of checking out today?” you asked quietly.
He thought for a moment, a book in his hand, then turned to look at you. “Probably something about Germany, but I’m not entirely sure yet. What about you?”
You chuckled to yourself, then leaned in a bit. “I’d like something from art history, but...right now, the only thing I’m checking out is you.”
It took a second to register, but once it did Spencer shook his head, lips upturned and cheeks a bit redder. “Y/N...” he groaned at the cheesiness of the pickup line.
“Spencer...” you mock-groaned back.
He slipped the book into his satchel for safe-keeping. “Alright, let’s head to art, then.”
“Art history - “
“Yeah, yeah...right...”
He was flustered. Good.
You let go of Spencer’s hand as you surveyed the art history section, sliding the large books out of place and carefully sliding them back when you were through. After reading the back of a book on Monet, you felt Spencer’s eyes on you in your peripheral vision. You glanced up and sure enough, he was leaning against the shelf, chewing on his lip, gazing back at you.
It happened without either of you realizing it.
It was like some sort of instinct took over. You couldn’t wait. You couldn’t be rational. You couldn’t be reasonable human beings. You needed to touch each other and you needed to touch each other now.
You set the book haphazardly (but silently) somewhere on the shelf, knowing you’d come back for it later, and made your way to Spencer. His eyes looked so full of want, it was almost overwhelmingly gorgeous. You tugged on the collar of his button-up shirt and leaned up to kiss him roughly, teeth clashing briefly, his tongue making its way into your mouth without hesitation. He tasted like coffee and cherry chapstick. You sighed.
You felt him start to get hard as you pulled away. You met his eyes again and he nodded his silent permission. Both of you instantly checked your surroundings, finding the second floor to still be deserted, at least from what you could see from the aisle. The art history section was towards the back of the floor and so, quite honestly, you might not have been alone after all. But again, rational thought had flown out the window. Only lust and hormones remained, and unfortunately so did Spencer’s jeans, which were starting to get extremely uncomfortable for him. And so you surreptitiously undid his belt.
You heard his breath start to quicken. It made your heart pound faster in your chest. This wasn’t the first time you’d given Spencer a handjob in public, but it also wasn’t something you’d done frequently. It was mostly uncharted territory, especially since the only public places you’d done things like this were more enclosed and private - places like movie theaters, or ferris wheels, or private jets…
Every slight movement sounded ten times louder in the silence of the library. The jingle of Spencer’s belt buckle may as well have been a fire alarm, even with your carefulness. You gulped and undid the button of his jeans, faking a sneeze as you unzipped the fly. He chuckled under his breath at your inventiveness. Your mouth watered at the sight of the tent in his boxers, cock straining uncomfortably against the fabric. You wanted to taste him so bad, but you couldn’t do it here. Still, your stomach did a flip at the thought. Later, you told yourself. That was far too risky.
You looked up into his eyes for consent once more and he nodded eagerly, big doe eyes pleading for relief. You didn’t waste anymore time and slipped your hand into his boxers, wrapping your fingers around his dick and pumping him slowly.
He was even more eager than you thought, precum dripping from the tip, and god you wanted to taste him. You again fought the urge and brought the wetness down his length, using it as lube. He was so big. He didn’t look it, but damn was he packing. Though you were often on top, pegging the daylights out of him, it was so nice when you bottomed for Spencer. You held your breath, remembering how good it felt to have the cock in your grip fucking you into the mattress. Every single time, it was an earth-shattering, bruising, mind-blowingly good fuck, and Jesus Christ were you horny now.
Spencer bucked into your hand and you looked up to see his face, eyes gripped shut, trying his hardest not to make any noise. At home, he was like a pornstar, the way he moaned, all inhibition gone with his clothes. You knew it was hard for him to stay quiet here just like it was hard for you to not immediately fall on your knees and take him into your mouth. You twisted your hand a bit as you continued to stroke him and his breath stuttered, one hand resting on the shelf beside him so he could bite down on the skin there, the other clutching his satchel, knuckles white.
He was close.
You tightened your grip a bit, focusing more on the head, other hand making its way to tease his balls. He whined then - quietly, but still - and for a moment you completely stopped, terrified someone had heard. You were both frozen in place for a good five seconds before collectively deciding it was safe to continue, and you did so at a merciless pace. Spencer was breathing so fast and so loud you were certain if anyone walked onto the second floor, they’d think someone was having an asthma attack up there. His eyes shot open and you knew he was about to cum. You gave in and got onto your knees, taking him into your mouth as he came, thick cock spurting cum deep into your throat. Spencer’s hand that had been death-gripping his satchel strap threaded through your hair lovingly, and he sighed in contentment, sated and blissful. You swallowed his release fully and kissed his tummy, tucking his softening cock back into his boxers, standing up before you had him zipped, buttoned, and rebuckled, another fake sneeze aiding your stealth.
It’s amazing how well-fucked a man can look with just one handjob-turned-slight-blowjob. Spencer’s eyes were dilated, his lips red and slightly swollen, face flushed, hair sticking to his glistening forehead. He was still catching his breath, and you could see the mark he’d left on his hand from biting down to stay quiet - something the team of profilers back at work would probably have a lot of questions about on Monday. He pulled you towards him and kissed you quickly, then slowly, tasting himself on your tongue and shivering at the intimacy of it all. He pulled away and nuzzled his nose against yours, mouth falling open lazily. You traced those red, swollen lips with your finger and kissed him again, and when you pulled away he arose concerned.
“What about you?” he whispered. “You didn’t - ?”
You laughed shortly under your breath. “You think we can get away with more public indecency?”
He shrugged. “I owe you,” he whispered. “And,” he leaned in to your ear, “I want to.”
Your stomach flipped.
You nodded at him and his lips turned up at the corners. You were in a skirt, making this a relatively easier feat than the one previous. You braced yourself against the sturdy bookshelf, stepping onto a nearby step stool to give Spencer better access. He slid his hand into your thong, the fabric wet from watching your pretty boy come undone, and traced along your entrance briefly. He retracted immediately and fear shook you to the core. Had someone walked up behind you? “What - ? Oh,” you were speechless. Spencer had pulled his hand out to wet his long fingers, slipping them two by two into his mouth and sucking, looking into your eyes as he did it.
“Spencer,” you whispered reverently, and his eyes grew smug. He brought his hand back into your pants and started to rub your clit, you holding onto his shoulders a bit awkwardly. “I’m not gonna last long,” you admitted, and he quickened his pace, slipping two of his gorgeous fingers into you at once, leaning in towards your ear again.
“It’s okay, Y/N,” he whispered, biting gently on your earlobe. “Cum for me. Cum for me.”
And you did. He kept on going through your orgasm, fingers perfectly fucking you through each shiver and swear and whisper of his name. Then he pulled out his hand and licked it clean, staring into your eyes while he did it. He licked his lips when he was done. “You always taste so pretty,” he whispered, breathing ragged.
“God, I really do love the library,” you whispered back.
