Sometimes I think about B’Elanna Torres.

No, no stay with me for a second let me gush abt my fave mixed engineer.

I think about this woman who, before the Maquis, she had nobody. Her mother was only the Klingon gods know where, her father fucked off when she was a kiddo because he was a racist prick. She was teased mercilessly by people she was, arguably, smarter than simply for the crime of being part Klingon.

And like, yeah we talk about how Star Trek timeline is ~post oppression~ but if you watch Voyager and DS9 you know that isn’t true. It comes in different forms, different species of intelligent life. But it’s there. The biggest of which of course being the Bajorans vs. Cardassians.

And here we have B’Elanna Torres. Half-Klingon, fighting against that half of her all of her life because she was told since birth it was Bad Wrong. But she joins the Maquis. She has a spirit that still hasn’t been crushed. She was ‘betrayed’ by Starfleet (read: dropped out because things were racist there too). She is a good person no matter how much she rails against the idea of being so. And she finds a family with the Maquis. She doesn’t start thinking about it until of course suddenly she’s trebuchet’d across the fucking galaxy to a totally different quadrant.

And she is once again surrounded by Starfleet, made to feel Bad Wrong. She’s smart, exceedingly so. She’s still acerbic even to Chakotay who she is arguably closest with next to Seska who turns out to surprise be one of the enemy (aka Cardassian).

She has earned her attitude. She has earned keeping people at a distance. Nothing she could say or do would make things better or worse anyway, so why not just protect yourself?

But then. Shock of all shocks. Janeway appears like an angel descending from the fucking clouds (insert harp music) and she almost immediately trusts B’Elanna’s word despite their first impressions not being too great. Janeway was there because of the Maquis. B’Elanna is Maquis. But she’s a damn fine engineer. Janeway makes this honestly almost out of left field decision to trust Chakotay’s word (perhaps with Tuvok admitting despite everything that B’Elanna is as good as Chakotay says cause he’s seen it and he knows they can’t afford to lose such a fine engineer in an unknown scenario).

B’Elanna has the total capacity to be loyal. She’ll be a pain while being such but she is loyal. And everyone learns that. Her family is no longer just Maquis. But it’s Harry Kim, it’s Kathryn Janeway, it’s even on some level Neelix of all people. And then we add Seven of Nine down the line who instantly recognizes B’Elanna’s skill and authority regardless of how mean B’Elanna is for a while there. Given her trials when she first got the job I don’t blame her being on guard with Seven especially given this is an ex-Borg we’re talking about. Seven doesn’t sit there and question B’Elanna’s orders, though, and that’s so key (she may feel she has a better solution but she accepts B’Elanna gives the orders even if she does do stuff without orders for a while there). She is maybe the third person who has so quickly accepted who B’Elanna is and what she’s capable of and that is just so uplifting. Sure, they’re antagonistic for a while but things settle. They recognize each other’s skill and expertise. It’s never explicitly them jockeying for position as the go-to engineer, they’re just made to do that by the script on a meta level. 

But the Voyager crew. They accept she is who she is. ‘Forehead and bad attitude’ and all. She is accepted without hesitance for the first time in her goddamn life and I’m not supposed to be emotional about that decades later? To say nothing of getting to see this brown woman, who is a successful engineer with a family, struggle with things like Depression. I mean, at that point non-white people weren’t allowed to show emotion like that. They weren’t allowed to be vulnerable. Still aren’t on some level now. Especially women without being accused of having some motive or whatever. She is also allowed to be angry without being accused of it being her time of the month every time you turn around. In fact I can’t remember a time she was ever accused of PMSing when she had an outburst. Though I guess it depends on how you feel abt it being blamed solely on her klingon side. 

But she gets through it not exactly through the power of love but the power of acceptance not just of the emotions she has that are negative (depression) or deemed negative (anger) but of her as a person. Bad shit happened, she can’t change it, but it’s okay to feel like shit abt it, too. They don’t ‘save’ her. They stay there while she saves herself.

Lieutenant B’Elanna fucking Torres. Chief Engineer. USS Voyager. She is the hero of her own damn story whether you like it or not. With a little help from her friends family.

I’m gonna write this down before I forget. I was thinking about Peter Pevensie, one of my low-key faves, specifically about his rage at being a fully-grown man -- a High King, in fact -- trapped in the body of a teenager. I’m pretty sure he’s full of rage and keeps getting into fights at school in the books, or I might have made that up, it has been years since I read them. It is my favorite thing about him anyway. (I was also thinking about this because Link is going through something similar in Majora’s Mask.)

My grimdark Narnia spinoff concept:

Here’s this guy who has spent years waging wars, executing rebels, exercising the divine right of tyranny over not only an entire kingdom but also his three younger siblings. (I know he’s meant to be a Just King but there’s no such thing!) Now he is supposed to be a normal boy again. And even when they all go to Heaven years later, he’s not in charge anymore -- Aslan is.

And I thought, what if in the end he becomes so consumed by pride and anger that he rebels against Aslan and turns into Lucifer! Corrupted, banished, beautiful Peter, now King of the twisted domain of Hell. Fun character design challenge for myself...

Anyway I started brainstorming this idea for a Narnia spinoff game where you play as Edmund, the most complicated of the Pevensies, and the premise is that you have to choose between your siblings. Do you join Peter in Hell, or Lucy in Heaven? Edmund loves all his siblings and Aslan, and he is tormented by the memory of betraying them long ago. But now they are divided, he must betray someone again.

And once you’ve played both of those endings, you can unlock the third ending where you can join Susan, who doesn’t believe that any of this is real. So there’s this additional layer of ambiguity about whether your moral dilemma even matters, if death is final and no God is actually judging us. Like, after you’ve fought both angels and demons, then you wake up in the hospital following the train crash, and you can spend time with Susan in the “real world.” But you keep getting glimpses of Narnia and chances to return, and it’s unclear if they are true messages or just delirious illusions (or worse, suicidal opportunities).

It would be really cool if all the endings seemed satisfying. It would be simpler, and surely more healthy for me, to have the Susan ending of logic and atheism be the “true ending.” But it would be a great artistic challenge if I could pull off the other ones, too. Something like, must we be so cynical, does the story, does the fantasy mean anything? If only just, “what a beautiful dream?” Can we get some agnostic angst up in this Edmund?

Some other concepts:

Aslan would be so much fun to write...

Aslan has this patronizing attitude toward Lucy, his only loyal follower. He doesn’t want her to fight; he still thinks of her as a little girl. But Lucy has her own terrifying arc going on, provoked by Peter’s selfishness and evil. She has grown up too, after all.

The big set piece of the whole game is an incredible, epic battle between the armies of Heaven and Hell, lead by Lucy and Peter, which culminates in a thrilling, heartbreaking one-on-one duel between them. One of them will die. And you have to interfere. (Y’know, typical Middle Sibling stuff.)

I always thought it would be so interesting if one of the Pevensies had had a relationship with someone while they were ruling Narnia. I would want the main focus of the game to be the drama between the siblings, but it would also be fun to give Edmund a romance (a GAY romance? yes) in at least one of the endings (Peter’s?).

It would also be so tragic if Susan had actually had a child with some prince/demigod back when she was a queen, and this daughter is an important and lovable NPC throughout the game (on Lucy’s side). But Susan doesn’t even believe her own daughter is real. My heart...

I always thought the “they all die and go to Heaven” ending of Narnia is so fucked up, and it would be so, like, spiritually fulfilling to address it with such a ridiculous grimdark spinoff. I really love these characters, and it would just be so awesome to mess with them.

Sorting Glee characters into hogwarts houses

Artie

I think Artie would fit in Ravenclaw. I don’t really have an essay answer as to why but.... the vibes are there. He is not really a Hufflepuff, and not crazy ambitious/competitive like Gryffindors or Slytherins so he’s fit into Ravenclaw the best.

Blaine

What can I say? Hufflepuffies hufflepuff of them all. Such a Hufflepuff. One might sort him into Gryffindor, but I don’t think this is a Neville situation. He is just vibing, he just wants to sing his acapella pop with his pals. He isn’t crazy set on a goal like Rachel (a gryffindor) or Kurt (a slytherin) and isn’t really brave in chivalrous. I’m not saying he’s a coward, Cedric for example was brave akin a Gryffindor but still got sorted into Hufflepuff.Those traits are just not what defines Blaine. He is kind, he is friendly, hard-working, extremely loyal and therefore a Hufflepuff!

Brittany

Britt seems like a Ravenclaw, believe it or not. Most would put her in Hufflepuff but does she really seem hard-working, fair and family-loving? Those are not her values at all, she seems like a Luna Lovegood kind of Ravenclaw.

Karofsky

Yes Karofsky was a bully. Yes he was a horrible person. But deep down? I think he’s a Hufflepuff. Especially after his graduation and redemption line, I feel like we really see the true Karofsky and not scared closeted bully Karofsky. And that Karofsky is a HUFFLEPUFF.

Emma

Emma seems like a ravenclaw… She loves giving advice, making her pamphlets, she’s very smart and organized! I don’t really have any other reasons, but honestly I don’t think she fits in any other houses.

Finn

Hmm, this is a tough one because I hate Finn. Okay, not hate! He’s just... not one of my faves, and I don’t really like the way his character was written. I honestly just want to make him a squib and be over with it... You know what? This is my post. I can and will make him a squib if I want to!

Jesse St. James

I’m really not sure whether he is a Slytherin or a Gryffindor.... I think he leans more towards Slytherin but I get a tiny bit of Gryffindor vibes from him too.

A Gryffindor with a capital G. No need to explain. I don’t think there even are any objections??

Mike

A... Ravenclaw? Maybe? I honestly don’t know. Probably a Ravenclaw but I’m open to suggestions. I’m thinking either Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff.

Puck

Puck is a Hufflepuff and I do not take criticism, behind the jock persona and all the acting out he is a cinnamon roll. Period. Think of the time when he chose Glee over football. When he said that he’ll do anything to support Quinn and Beth. All the times when he cried during a klaine duet. When he saved Shelby from Quinn’s evil plan. He is actually kinda soft, but covers it all up with skipping school and bullying people and whatnot. Think of it as villain backstory, behind every villain is just a person who needed some compassion. Or a total nutcase but this is not that case.

Quinn

Very much a Slytherin. I- I don’t know who would put her anywhere else. Really. Let me just start listing things here.... spying for Sue in s1, giving Rachel an anti-makeover to get her away from Finn, aiming for ivy league schools, plan to get Beth back by framing Shelby..... Oh, and a big one! Remember that professor she slept with... in S6 I think? A Gryffindor could never. I feel like Gryffindors pride themselves on being very true to themselves and authentic, and Quinn basically fabricated a whole personality which honestly is rather impressive. Very Slytherin, 5/5!

Rachel

A Gryffindor! Yes, you read that right. Not a Slytherin, a Gryffindor. I elaborate on that in the Kurt post, but I feel like I should explain a bit more. Yes, Rachel is loud, selfish, obnoxious, annoying. And those are Gryffindor traits! You might think oh but she’s ambitious like a Slytherin... but! Gryffindors are ambitious too. That’s where the entire house rivalry stems from. Gryffindors and Slytherins both are extremely ambitious and the biggest difference isn’t in the goals, it’s how they choose to approach and achieve those goals. Gryffindors in a more uhh... unhinged way! The door is locked? Kick it down.  And Slytherins will plot and plan their way around the problem instead of barreling at it, not as obvious as Gryffindors but just as determined. The door is locked? Pick the lock. Go through another way. Pickpocket the nearest teacher and get the key. Come back later.

Sam

Hufflepuffle. Hufflepuff. I will not elaborate.

Santana

Honestly? A Slytherin-Gryffindor hatstall. I can’t explain it. I just- the vibes are unclear. I feel like I don’t really have a grasp on Santana’s character beyond the angry lebian :I

🌡: Fave season?

I’m really torn on this one, I love Fall because of the weather, and Halloween and all the cozy clothing/fall flavors but I hate knowing that winter is around the corner and not gonna leave until at least April. Winters here suck. I really like spring too, it’s so nice to see all the flowers coming up again, and find pretty places to walk again/start planning summer trips. :3

🔑: Key to your heart?

That's hard to answer, but seriously just being genuinely kind? Or considerate? And loyal. That's always meant a lot to me. But on the less serious side, I'm always a sucker for coffee or good food. There's few things I like better than quality time with people I care about and a steaming mug of coffee, or sharing food with them <3 Just those lazy, content little moments when there's no obligations, and you're with people you like~

📖: Fave book?

Hm, I think one of my comfort books might be All Creatures Great and Small, by James Herriot. It sits on my nightstand, and I'll sometimes read a few chapters when I can't sleep. I've read it enough times that I think I have it mostly memorized, but it's just relaxing at this point. Patti Smith also has a memoir (Just Kids) that talks about her life and friendship with Robert Mapplethorpe that I adore. It's beautifully written, with a very sad ending but I still love it--and it has some wonderful photographs in it too.

Favorite Thor Ships: Part 1

Out of all the MCU, the Thor movies are my favorites.

It helps that I'm a multi shipper and all the women in Thor's life are awesome. So I want to do some posts about my favorite Thor ships. And I’m starting with my personal favorite: Thor/Sif.

                                                      Totally biased, I've been quietly rooting for Thor and Sif to hook up since 2011 and no matter what direction the story takes Thor x Sif will always be my favorite potential relationship.

Obviously, part of this is just because I have a massive crush on Sif, the character, and Jaimie Alexander, the actress. I love her...why?

Lady Sif is sort of the MCU equivalent of Wonder Woman, an immortal who combines strength and nobility with a sense of warmth, compassion, and emotional openness. 

She doesn't get a huge amount of screen time but comes off as an incredibly well-rounded character, especially in a genre where many female character are assigned valued based on how well they can mimic the traditional cliches of male Action Heroes.  

Sif is able to switch from playful and cocky, to stoic and serious, to gentle and supportive, depending on the situation (as benefiting a literal goddess).

In other word's, she's Girlfriend Material of the absolute highest quality! 

Beyond that, I love that she's so high-key Romantic in her feelings for Thor. Having your Badass Warrior Princess character mournfully pining as she gazes across a crowded room at her lifelong friend, her eyes brimming with unspoken feeling... it's exactly the kind of over the top, melodramatic bullshit that I love about the Asgardians and their weird alien/pseudo-Shakespearian/mythic warrior culture. 

At the same time, she's never fawning in her interactions with Thor. They banter like old friends and flirt in mid-combat. 

Sif tries to counsel him when she thinks he needs perspective or patience. 

She advocates for him when he's not around.

To me it's a very romantic set-up, a long-term friendship based on loyalty and mutual trust with the potential to develop into a very deep relationship. (Though, flipping it around, I can definitely see how female viewers might not appreciate their Super-Hero/Immortal Warrior Woman power fantasy character being portrayed, pining from the sidelines for several centuries).

Plus, their dynamic has this tropey, genderswap thing going on. A Fantasy Prince and his Loyal Female Knight. Except the Fantasy Prince is a giant Viking Immortal with a magic hammer and he and his girlfriend ride into battle side by side which is both hot and romantic to me.

Of course the downside  to Thor x Sif as a relationship (also maybe what makes it appealing)... is that it's all potential. As far as we know, Thor is either unaware of Sif's feelings or does not reciprocate. Which is weird because Thor generally comes off as a very socially/emotionally aware guy... at least in the context of Asgardian society. 

One of my favorite things about Thor is that he's confident but honest and genuine as well. He never comes off as a "ladies man" i.e someone who puts on a smooth, crafted persona specifically to interact with women. 

However, he clearly seems to be aware when women are attracted to him (Jane Foster, the woman in the subway)...so how come he doesn't seem to notice the very obvious torch Sif is carrying?

My personal headcannon for this is that they either casually dated as adolescent (whatever age that is for Asgardians) or came very close to it. But then Frigga and/or Odin stepped in, took Sif aside and basically told her to hold off because they thought she had the potential to be a good queen.

Before his time on Earth, Thor was reckless, arrogant, impulsive, and quick to violence. He wasn't ready to be a king or a committed lover. And so Sif was encouraged to do the responsible thing and wait. 

The irony being that by the time he had matured into the person he was supposed to be, he had met somebody else.

To me, there's something there that mirrors the fall of Asgard. Why not wait? They're gods after all, there's always going to be more time.

Then Thor gets banished and comes back different. He's met a mortal woman and doesn't want to be king anymore. Frigga, who Sif always thought would be her mother-in-law one day, is dead. 

Thor goes searching across the universe and then Odin sends her away from Asgard. And when she finds her way back even her home is gone. Her people live on Earth now, or at least the fraction of them that still survive after Hela, Surtur, and Thanos. 

Thor is gone again, traveling through space with a bunch of mercenaries she’s never heard of.

Maybe I'm just projecting because I want someone in-universe to mourn Asgard and everything those people must have lost in what must seem like a very short amount of time to them.

I always thought Thor x Sif had the potential to be a very stable, well-rounded couple. However, given Thor's general arc in the first two movies  it would have seemed a little off, thematically speaking, if he ended up with the immortal warrior princess/long-time friend that his parents wanted him to get with all along.

However, post-Ragnarok/Endgame I think there is a lot of dramatic/narrative potential to a romantic reunion between Thor and Sif, someone who knew him before everything started and can see how much he has changed. Maybe someone he didn't realize how much he cared for until she was gone. 

For her it's a second chance at something she thought was lost, a piece of her past that's come back damaged and different but still worth fighting for.

Obviously, this is all conjecture. There's no guarantee that Sif will return in Thor 4. As a shipper part of me is hoping for it, however as a fan of her character I'm also worried about her being crammed in and either sidelined or mischaracterized by the those behind the scenes.

If she shows up in the Loki show, that's more screen time and room for character development. 

However, I'm not hugely interested in Loki's show and depending on the direction it takes I'm not sure that it will play to her strengths as a character. My dream scenario was for Sif to have her own Xena-style high fantasy adventure (with Thor showing up in a supporting role) but that’s seem very unlikely.

For this I'm not technically ignoring your description, but since it's a mess I'm throwing things about you to complete it.

You like older guys, so let's start with the fact that Aragorn is —if I'm not mistaken— eighty seven years old during LOTR.

He also possesses vast knowledge of almost every topic you can come up with; you two could have very profound philosophical conversations and/or share curiosities with each other. Either ways you would pretty much love it.

Due to the fact that he was raised in Rivendell, he knows a lot about Elvish medicine, language and magic, something you would most likely enjoy learning, and even more if it was Aragorn the one teaching you.

Elves are also very attached nature, which makes Aragorn and you have similar hobbies and passions.

You would be 100% comfortable opening up to him, he's very emotionally intelligent and empathetic —is he a Pisces?

Do I need to say he's a gentleman? And loyal too. Also I'm not getting into the sexual stuff but you know, you'd be a great match in bed ;).

Yes, you're clumpsy, but that doesn't mean Aragorn wouldn't teach you how to properly fight, with sword, bow and arrow—you might need your glasses— and hand-to-hand combat. I'm not getting too much into this because we already know how it works.

First off, you're also physically alike to Bilbo so you're definitely Thorin's type.

Your dynamic would be Dumb Damsel In Distress/Clumpsy Knight In Shining Armor — guess who is who—, but that doesn't mean he's not the protective one; he would go feral if something happened to you. To him your a baby that must be protected at all costs.

Your clumpsiness would 100% sure annoy Thorin because what the hell can you put it together already? Because he's tired of having to stop you for tripping, falling, getting caught in the crossfire, etc. He ends up low-key enjoying it just because he likes feeling like you need his protection and he has a excuse to get extra close to you.

The fact that you're up to anything AND a Ravenclaw means two things; 1. that you would most likely follow him into whatever his prideful, stubborn ass gets into —complaining and warning him?yes but still doing it—, and 2. You're most likely to get him out of that awful situation with your cleverness and quick thinking, things that he lacks of, frankly.

You're a Leo which implies that you're dramatic and sensitive, now, Thorin is a Sag which means he's dramatic and edgy, again the best pairing. He would teach you to toughen up and you will help him open up emotionally.

Thorin is not one to let his walls down, he has gone through a lot and now has a name to live up to, but he eventually lets you in because you're just that special, strong enough to crack down his armor.

He would turn to you whenever he doesn't know what to do and is in need of advice. You're the voice of reason, and even though at first he doesn't really listen, he ends up realizing that most of the time you're right. An Analysis of 4 Key Relationships in Season 2

Now that we’ve had some time to digest season 2, I wanna take an in-depth look at some of the new relationships and group dynamics that have popped up in the show. Specifically, seeing Catra interact with Bow and Glimmer was something I’ve been excited about for a really long time, and then of course there’s Scorpia, and wow do i have THOUGHTS alright here we go

Catra and Bow

i know, weird right. there’s a reason i’m writing about these two first and it’s because i have a lot of feelings lajksdfd just hear me out okay

Idk about you guys, but when I was watching Catra attack Bow in 2x02 it just felt so weird, like in a bad way. Catra’s anger towards him for stealing Adora away is obviously valid, but Bow is just so pure and righteous and good, you know? He doesn’t have a bitter bone in his body (unlike Glimmer, who can give as good as she gets). Bow doesn’t know how to respond to Catra’s anger... and I think the reason that it was so hard for me to watch is because Catra and Bow actually have the potential to be good friends.

Think about it like this. Catra and Glimmer are a lot alike--they’re fierce and intense and they each have someone who helps bring them back down to earth: their respective best friends, Adora and Bow! And we see how much Adora and Glimmer have grown to love one another, right? It’s because their different personalities complement each other so well.... So I think that, given the chance, Catra and Bow could have a similar dynamic :)

There was a sweet moment in 2x02 that offered a glimpse of this, when Bow was trying to show Catra some kindness. He’s such an earnest, straight forward character, he sees right through Catra’s bullshit and knows exactly what to say to get through to her (i mean look at her expression here, the way her ears are flattened--so different from her absurd behavior in the rest of the episode).

Lock these two in a room for an hour? Yeah, they’d come out best friends 😭💖 I hope we get more of them in future episodes!! 

Catra and Glimmer

Oh man...... Whew. YIKES. Where to even begin with this alsjdfsdjld. Catra and Glimmer’s rivalry is just. everything. 

To Glimmer, Catra is the girl who is trying to destroy her home, murder her and her loves ones... the girl who’s breaking the heart of someone she loves (Adora).

To Catra, Glimmer is the girl who stole Adora away from her. She tore her life apart. She represents what it means to be born into a position of privilege and (literal) power, which Catra resents with a burning passion.

Seeing these two go head to head, sparring physically and verbally, it’s so freaking delicious. Catra has the advantage over her in almost every way: she’s a better fighter, she lies and manipulates, she’s willing to do evil things to win battles that Glimmer, as a typical hero, refuses to do. But despite all that, Glimmer still wins every time... Because she has Adora.

It’s interesting, though. Even though Adora is on Glimmer’s team, Catra knows that she is the one who holds Adora’s attention, if not also her affections--and she knows this fact drives Glimmer crazy. I mean come on, Adora means everything to Glimmer! She loves her as a friend but more than that, She-Ra gives her hope that they can save the world. Yet Adora loves this feral half-cat demon over her?? what???? lmao. So I think part of what’s fueling Glimmer’s hatred, her desire to just beat the absolute shit out of Catra, is that she feels like she’s contending for Adora’s love.

There were four glitra moments this season that I wanna highlight.

First, when Catra tries to get in her head and make her doubt her relationship with Adora. I found this interesting because you almost see a glimpse of sincerity in Catra--as if she’s trying to warn Glimmer against repeating the mistake she herself made. Glimmer’s reaction to the words are just as telling. She gets angry, but I don’t think it’s because she believes Catra. I think she’s angry because Catra is slandering Adora’s character. Unlike Catra right now, Glimmer sees Adora for who she truly is. She knows that Adora isn’t the kind of person who abandons her friends in pursuit of power. So yeah this was a cool moment that illustrated Glimmer and Catra’s contrasting perspectives.

Second, I LOVED this line, when Catra makes fun of Glimmer and Adora’s relationship (but it just comes off as jealous lmaoo). The reason I love it is because it’s so true!!! Glimmer and Adora are perfect for each other. What this line proves is that she is absolutely threatened by Glimmer in a romantic context. She recognizes that Glimmer might actually be more compatible for Adora than she is, and that Glimmer is her foil (which I’ll explain more in a minute).

Next is the scene where Glimmer actually threatens to kill Catra in cold blood. If you’re like me and you missed that when you first watched it, yeah, that’s what happened--Catra gives Kyle the order to “take Entrapta out” and then Glimmer slams her against the tree and says “two can play at that game.” She gets this close to blasting her face off but Bow is able to talk her down from it. And the whole time, Catra is just fucking smirking at her, calling her bluff because she knows Glimmer won’t compromise her morals (parallel to catradora in 2x05 anyone??). But yeah this was crazy. Catra just wanted to see how far she could push her and it turns out... pretty damn far. 

One of my favorite lines in the whole season was Glimmer telling Catra “I’m not as naive as you think.” Catra thought she had her outsmarted, forced to deplete her magic, but in the end Catra had underestimated her as an adversary.

The more I think about it, the more I realize Glitra’s rivalry is a hundred times more intense than Catradora’s. Remember in the DnD ep when femme fatale Catra points at Glimmer and calls her her greatest enemy? That was veeery interesting... Their relationship really has a life of it’s own now, like, separate from Adora. They hate everything about what each other stand for. They’re both so strong and hot-headed, with opposite moral compasses--like two rockets on a collision course. But I also love that they have this sort of begrudging respect for one another. Look at what Glimmer says here in 2x03, the ghost episode:

How random, right, that Glimmer would be thinking about some offhand comment from Catra from the previous episode? AND! In context, it just sounded to me like Catra was saying Glimmer was terrible at taking people hostage lol. Glimmer extrapolates and applies her comment to her courage, her capability as a hero. That’s like.... whoa. It shows that Glimmer actually cares about Catra’s opinion of her.

So yeah Glitra’s dynamic is more amazing than i could’ve ever dreamed.. not to mention their weird flirtation and oh no looks like we’re out of time for this section kjdfljsdkaskjd

Adora and Scorpia

Ok seeing these two dorks together in 2x05 was so amazing 😂😂 As cute as it was though it was one of the most heartbreaking parts of the season. I can’t remember a time that Scorpia ever demonstrated such bitterness towards someone.

Not exaggerating when I say that last line brought me to tears like wtf.... 😭

I’ve mentioned this before but Scorpia genuinely loves Catra so much and she just can’t stand seeing her heart breaking over Adora when Scorpia feels like she could treat Catra better. She’d give her the whole world if she could (which is quite literally what she’s trying to achieve!)

Adora, on the other hand, she doesn’t really know who Scorpia is. To her, Scorpia is just someone who is enabling Catra’s descent into darkness, so there is a hostility there already. If I had to name one thing that I’m excited about for upcoming episodes, it would be Adora inevitably growing jealous of Catra and Scorpia’s relationship. We haven’t seen it yet but mark my words we WILL AND ITS GONNA FUCKING DESTROY US okay i could yell about adora and scorpia for hours but let’s just move on and get to my fave part of this meta laksjdfs

Catra vs. Glimmer, and Adora vs. Scorpia

So Catra and Glimmer rivalry’s is obviously really fun, same with Adora and Scorpia. But the real magic comes in when we look at the dynamic of this whole 4-person group. I didn’t take Scortra seriously in season 1 (blasphemy... i know) so it took me until season 2 to catch onto this pattern, but now that I have it makes so much sense and gives the show a new perspective for me. 

Glimmer and Scorpia’s relationship hasn’t really been explored in the show but there is one thing we know they have in common: they both love two girls who are obsessed with someone else. And they both act as foils for our two protagonists. 

Glimmer is Catra’s foil. The similarities between these two are obvious. They’re both passionate and angry and driven and traumatized. But Glimmer’s strong moral code contrasts sharply with Catra’s lack of one (and really that difference is just a result of their disparate upbringings). 

Glimmer is right in front of Adora. And she’s everything that Adora only wishes Catra could be... yet Glimmer will never be able to compete with Catra in the contest for Adora’s affection. Adora is stuck between loving someone that she can’t be with, or being with someone she can’t truly love... at least, not in the same soul-altering way that she loves Catra.

Scorpia is Adora’s foil. Scorpia and Adora are also alike in some ways, but there’s a key difference. The fandom has discussed before how, yeah, Scorpia is part of the Horde, but she doesn’t appear to have any kind of moral stake in the war that’s going on. What Scorpia really cares about, what she’ll fight to the death for is... her friendships. She’s loyal to a fault, and she would do absolutely anything for Catra. Catra is her number one priority. 

GUYS! This is the exact opposite of Adora!! Adora may love Catra, but she will always choose the greater good over her. She won’t betray her convictions for love. That’s just who she is. Thus, Scorpia is everything that Catra wishes Adora would have been for her. Someone who would have stayed by her side no matter what. Someone who wouldn’t have cared whether or not the Horde was evil, as long as she could be with Catra. But again--though I do think Scortra’s budding romance will continue to develop--in the end Scorpia simply cannot compete with Adora for Catra’s affection. She acknowledged it herself. 

I wanna mention one more thing here.. So Scorpia and Glimmer are playing similar roles for their respective love interests. From my point of view (feel free to disagree this is just the way I’m interpreting things) I don’t believe that those relationships are gonna be endgame. To me this show always has been and always will be about Catra and Adora. And while I can’t wait to see them reconcile with each other, Noelle has suddenly got me falling in love with these other characters, too, and I'm so afraid??? ESPECIALLY for Scorpia. While Glimmer at least has Bow and the Princess Alliance, Scorpia has absolutely no one. Catra is Scorpia’s whole world. What will she do when that falls apart? (god please i’m begging, just let scorpia find happiness 😭)

Honestly I don’t even think I can write this part without having a meltdown but its the last one so im gonna push through alksjdfls. I already talked a bit about how Scorpia is exactly the kind of person that Catra needs at this point in her life, and I think it’s best summed up in this quote from Noelle:

“We see Scorpia expressing this admiration for Catra, expressing desire to get close to Catra... Catra is just not at this point super open to Scorpia’s affection. So I think it’s kind of tragic at this point. And I think for Catra, although she’ll never admit it, what she really wants is love and acceptance. Suddenly she is getting that, no strings attached, from Scorpia, and she is not ready.”

-wiping away tears- okay so yeah, Scorpia is over here offering Catra unconditional love and Catra’s just.... she’s so traumatized and has such deep-seated abandonment issues that she just doesn’t know what to do with it. She doesn’t feel she deserves it. Also, up until 2x05, Catra didn’t respect Scorpia much at all and definitely did not see her in a romantic light. But I have a theory on why that changed. 

For much of her life, I think the Horde taught Catra to associate love with blind loyalty and submission. Now, she is starting to question this belief. She thought Adora loved her, but Adora ended up being disloyal. She thought she could earn Shadow Weaver’s love by submitting to her, but Shadow Weaver continues to prove her wrong. So what is love, exactly? What is an expression of love? Catra’s not sure anymore.

When Scorpia defies Catra’s orders in 2x05--she destroys the First Ones disc, lets Adora escape, fucks up Catra’s plan--Catra is completely thrown. In the animation alone, you can see they’re trying to convey that Catra is seeing Scorpia in a way she never has before.

It’s precisely because Scorpia defied her and chose not to blindly submit to her, that Catra is still alive. It’s the first time that Scorpia went against Catra’s wishes in a big way. And I think this moment shook Catra to her core because it made her question what love is truly about. Like maybe Scorpia understands something that she doesn’t.

We see this again in episode 2x07, where she’s stressed out about Shadow Weaver and yelling at Scorpia to just obey her orders but Scorpia isn’t having it. And in that we see a special trust developing between them. Even when Catra’s being a dick to her, denying that they’re friends, saying things like “get used to not getting what you want in life...” Scorpia stays by her side and refuses to be discouraged. and I think that really is something that’s going to leave a huge impact on Catra. Scorpia is no longer just a tool for Catra to manipulate--she has come to seriously rely on her without realizing it.

Still, Catra doesn’t seem quite capable of understanding what a beautiful friend she has in Scorpia. and I’m afraid (predicting) that she might take it too far one day, and figure out the hard way exactly how much she had to lose. But that tragedy may also turn out to be her saving grace ✨

Personally, I’m super intrigued by the concept of MBTI too. Even though I know a lot of factors of the test could be misconceived or put in a perspective of your “ideal” sense of self, I still like how it can be somewhat accurate if one answers categories honestly!

Rambling aside, I already knew a lot about the MBTI types and looked to some of the more popular HQ characters as reference. I analyzed each of the characters’ personality from the anime and parts of the manga to decide which of the 16 types fit them. Then, it was a long process to write them all down and assign a few characters I see fit to match. I even had to get second opinions from my friend who also watches the series. It seems fairly simple, but it’s not really ;w;

— (Just a small disclaimer: I couldn’t analyze all the characters. I know there could be better matches, but I gave up after two hours and used the more relevant characters in the series)

INTJ - Hinata brings out the qualities and emotions INTJs have but don’t usually express. His nature allows the other to develop even just by being around them. They make a good pair because of INTJ’s trust and Hinata’s loyalty. Though his energy may seem draining, I think this pair will work well together in the long run.

ISTJ - Tanaka’s goals align with the ISTJ mindset with romantic relationships. I think ISTJ’s have a fairly traditional mindset. They’re super devoted lovers and that’s exactly what Tanaka needs. I think he can be just a little bit insecure sometimes and that all works out with a reliable ISTJ partner.

INTP - Actually meeting an INTP is difficult, but Oikawa’s interesting personality makes it easy to bring them out of their shell. Because INTP needs aren’t that complex, they don’t mind Oikawa’s busy schedule. One thing that may make this relationship difficult is that they need to recognize Oikawa’s need for intimacy.

ENFJ - ENFJs are always so eager to please their partners, but they tend to skip out on their own needs. The trustworthy and loyal Sugawara would make sure that his partner also gets their fair share in affection. I just think Suga would be super cute in a relationship with an ENFJ hehe

INFJ - Kuroo is the type of person who loves to analyze people, and unfortunately for him INFJs tend to be closed off. He’s attracted to how committed INFJs are to achieve goals. Together, they’d have a good support system.

ESTJ - Communication is key in every relationship and to ESTJs, it’s the most important part of how they choose their partners. Yamaguchi is observant, so along with the ESTJ direct personality, it just goes fluidly together.

ESTP - ESTPs are the type of people who can get easily bored and aren’t afraid to drop a potential lost lasting relationship. Yaku’s temper honestly can clash with an ESTP ideal at first but his integrity attracts them.

INFP - Terushima is the type of person who needs someone to help him settle down. INFP are indifferent toward him at first, but will still find ways to understand him. This pair definitely is that basic shoujo manga pair: popular guy x shy protagonist

ENFP - I kind of debate on this myself because Akaashi himself is either INTJ or ISTJ which makes a big difference on whether or not he is compatible with ENFP. I just think they have a good balance, but I could be wrong. I’m very 50/50 now I think more about it. Maybe Tsukishima would be a better fit? He was a close second when I was writing the original post.

ESFJ - ESFJs are very needy people and constantly want attention from their s/o. Asahi is also quite the traditional thinker, and would give his everything to developing a relationship with an ESFJ. It’ll be an adorable and affectionate pair.

ISFJ - Bokuto is sociable and likes to take risks, whereas the ISFJ type is the total opposite. However, they do share the S (sensing) & F (seeling) qualities that bring them together. ISFJs are caring and protective partners, always observing situations. They can act as a guide to help settle Bokuto’s recklessness.

ISFP - Ushijima can be blunt, but he surely does everything with good intentions. An ISFP may often find themselves lost in the moment, but Ushijima is the perfect rock to latch themselves on to. Their expressive tendency is pleasantly well-received.

ENTP - ENTPs just really loves to speak their mind. They question everything because they’re constantly just analyzing. Tsukishima may find this aspect annoying at first, but he’d understand that everything ENTP says is for self-development. Tsukishima values honesty and enjoys how direct they are.

ENTJ - We’ve seen how Ennoshita “ran away” when things got complicated, but we’ve also seem how he’s grown as an individual. ENTJs are confident and goal-driven, which Ennoshita admires. Above all, his patience with them will prevail in the relationship, and ENTJ will appreciate it a lot.

ESFP - At first, I don’t think an ESFP would even look twice at Kageyama as a potential lover. They’d keep him close as a friend and them come to realize how compatible they are. ESFPs care a lot about their partner- Kageyama may be a total blockhead, but he’d do anything to please his lover.

ISTP - ISTPs can be emotionally unavailable at times which can be a problem to most of their relationships. Though he may be confused, talking it out really helps. Sawamura grants the space they need and don’t tend to dwell on the reason why. That’s because he probably already knows why with his observant disposition.

Again, Shameless characters are super hard for me to place. And Mickey is especially diffucult for me because he's so complex. I can't decide between Slytherin and Hufflepuff for him. So for now, I'm just gonna call him a combination of both.

One of the key elements of Hufflepuff is loyalty. And I think we all know that describes Mickey to a T lol. And his loyalty are mainly to the people he cares about and not towards any causes or principles.

But on the Slytherin side, he's pretty resourceful and will go to extreme measures to reach his goals. The whole Rub & Tug business in S4. Plotting to torture Sammi in order to avenge Ian. And he supposedly escaped prison by seducing a female guard, which kind of indicates that he has some skill in deceiving people.

So....yeah. I think he has traits from both houses. If anyone wants to discuss this or give their own opinion, feel free to though!

misc. thoughts: Loving this character has been a wild and often painful ride lol. But I don't regret it, even if I wish I could rescue him from the Shameless writers. I never would have thought back when I first started watching the show that he would eventually end up being my fave but here we are. I enjoyed watching his journey and development back when the show was still entertaining. And I hope to see him finally get his happy ending in S11. Thanks for all the laughs and tears Mickey.

Ok my dear @you-gonna-break-my-heart-covey , i just finished the society and there is sooooo much to process. You probably did not expect this whe you said you were interested in my opinion but .. sorry i had to get my thoughts off my chest.

First things first - this show is complex and i like that.

Did anything happen like i wanted and expected it!? No. Hell no.

My thought to on the characters..

Allie. I do not partucularly like her - but i liked the way she handled things. She never wanted that kind of power but she did the best she could for a teenager!! She tried to be fair. She tried to be objectively. She did what she thought was best for everyone and not just for her and her friends. She even put Will aside for her duty. She loved and supported Cassandra even though she was dissapointed by her and like she said herself had always been in her shadow. I respect that.

Will. I really like him. He is quiet, does think before he talks and acts. He is so loyal and thoughtful. I do not really have any bad thoughts about him. Being torn between two people is a normal thing to happen. So no shame in that.

Kelly. At first i did not really like her. But when she left Harry she became such a great person. I love how caring she is. She even cares for Harry who clearly is some spoiled asshole. She did everything for everyone. She safed lifes! She noticed Beccas "condition". She is such a strong girl and an Angel.!

Harry. I hate him. He did not get shit about their situation and still thought he was something better. Because of what!? Because of the money his parents had!? Like i said, for me he is just some spoiled fuck. He never achieved anything on his own and clearly he's not planing on it. He is just weak. But to be fair he was quiet nice to Allie sometimes.

Campbell. You can hate me for that but .. i actually did not hate him. There are people there who made terrible decisiouns while having ectual feelings and empathy. He doesn't. I don't know how it is to be like him so i'm not in the place to judge him and his actions. Sure for a normal thinking and feeling person what he does is terrible and i'm so sorry for all the people he makes suffer but he does not know it better. Sometimes i think he is just bored and curious how people arw going to react like the time he almost drowned Elle. And sometimes i think he actually means well but he is just not able to do it right because he just can't be like a normal person. Ofcourse he knows somethings he does are not right because his parents told him but he does not know why because he just does not feel this way.

Elle. First i thought she was kind of boring. But god help me she is so strong. Yes she tried to kill Campbell and then herself but getting your butt uo to do something is some hardcore shit. I think she sometimes even feels sorry for Campbell. And i totally love her for trying to keep the others safe even though they weren't even friends in school. She is really strong and dealing with Camp just to safe others and trying to stop him makes her a real fighter. You go girl. You can do it.

Gwen. I hated her for being kind of a bitch and telling her girlfriends she met someone new while still being with Clark. And the relationship faking thing .. but i liked that she went with Grizz to find land. And i even kind of like her reaction to him coming out. It was natural and she handled it pretty good. She has two faces - one i like and the one that annoyes me so fucking much.

Jason. He's not the brightest but i really liked him. He treated his friends and his girlfriend really good in my opinion. He was loyal to Allie and tried to do his best. And even after he joined Harry and Camp to bring down Allie .. i hates that but i think he is still a good person. Easy to manupulate but yeah ..

Clark. Same as Jason. Not bright but actually a nice guy who treated his girlfiend and friends good. Even though he said that about Grizz in episode 10.. but i forgive him. He did his job well. Like Jason sadly easy to manipulate but still not a bad person in heart . And he's a low key movie nerd - which i find rather cute.

Helena. Like Elle she bored me but became one of my faves. She was strict i what she believed and i respect that with all my heart. She's really good to Luke and so faithful. When Allie made her defend Dewey, she was so good. She was so neutral and did everything a Lawyer should do. She surprised me in so many ways. I love how quiet and straight she is. She is the most grown up in my opinion

Luke. A really good boyfriend and friend. He is loyal and soft, i like that. I love how patient he is. Not much guys would have waited for their girlfriend to be ready to sleep with them so long. AND THE WAY HE GAVE HER THAT RING WAS GOLDEN. Well the decision to help Harry, Lexie and Camp.. debatable. Not a good one but actually maybe better than what could have happened to him if he denied.

Lexie. No. Just no. I don't like her. I get that what Jason and Clark did to her was horrible for her. But who the fuck does she think she is to think she could do anything better than Allie!? I think She recognized that it was a shitty idea but well .. we will see how she manages her self made debacle

Grizz. Babyboy is my light. I love his friendship with the guys - he clearly is the smart one but he still does not make his friends feel dump. He is such a great friend and support. He thinks before he acts. He is rather quiet. He is friendly. He does not judge and he is willing to give and not just take. He knows how important it is that they can feed themselves by farming and he does have some balls to lead the expedition after what happened the last time. He is so precious.

Sam. He is so pure. He tries to do everything right. He grew up with Campbell and he still turned out perfect. And isn't he the best friend ever!? He puts Beccs wellbeeing and happiness before his even though it had not so nice consequences for him. I love him so much.

Bean. This girls is smart, funny, beautiful and just so awesome. Nothing more to say. Respect girl.

Gordie. He is such a pleasant person. He is smart and uses his knowlege helping wherever he can. I really like him, lovable fella.

Cassandra. I did not like or hate her. She was a good leader in my opinion. She was the most grown up athe the time she was still alive. She startes something great that sadly not everyone apriciared ..

Jessica. Just a minor character but when she showed up to the meating in her prom dress .. damn girl you are awesome! I like her!

Becca. I really respect her for beeing such a good friend to Sam and making the best out of a situation that would have been the most horrible thing for me. She is brave and smart. I really love her even though i think it's not fair to keep the fathers baby to herself. I mean .. Sam is her best friend, does she really think he would judge her!? I don't even think he would if itbis Campbell but everybody makes mistakes now and then.

Erika. She seems sweet and soft. She does not say much but i liked the few words she said and she seems to be a good girlfriend.

Looooong story short. I love the societ. I kept me interested and that's not easy.

The theory that they are all dead .. who knows!? Maybe. Maybe not.

A memorial wall seems kinda normal after not seei g your kids for month. Hard to not think they are all dead. Abd .. the bus driver .. was obvious. Kinda bugged me that they just realized him in the last episode but hey.. the had a society to build.! Or better drivers he couldn't have habdled all buses alone.

Ohhhhhh my godddddddd I’m gonna diiiiiie. Ok let the memories resurface, this may take a minute.

my all-time ultimate fave character:

Stef. I just really liked her arcs, how straight forward she is, etc. Classic ISTJ tbh... cautious, reserved, protective, methodical, quietly affectionate. Like at the end of the day, I think she’s my fave. The kids go through so much ups and downs and Dumbass Moments that none of them can be my fave, and Lena is a close second but the writers only gave her one strong arc, and that’s when she tried to have a baby and that was so painful.

For several seasons I used to say my fave was Mike because he was Prime Dad Material. Like in the very first episode, he comes off as this douchey, entitled, deadbeat asshole who oversteps boundaries, right? Classic switcheroo. You find out this man is a saint, this man oozes emotional sensitivity and communication and affection, this man is also a dilf with eyelashes longer than should be legal. When he fostered AJ (I’m crying right now). Getting Ana through rehab??? Fighting his own alcohol addiction and not breaking once. Like the only time he ever let me down was his reaction to Dani MOLESTING Brandon, but he realized like whoa wait a minute... Brandon’s been taken advantage of and if Brandon were a girl he would see it different... Like all of Mike’s mistakes were temporary mistakes, he recovered quick and tried to do the right thing. If only his son was as quick on the uptake 😒

a character I didn’t used to like but now do:

Brandon. It took five seasons for me to like Brandon. You know how many seasons this show had? Five. And it’s because he’s pulled through the ringer of Suffering™ and it’s almost ALL his fault so that by the end when he’s doing the right thing again and again for the first time ever... and meets that super sweet girl... and then she DIES 

a character I used to like but now don’t:

Jude. He was such an intuitive, intense child, with wisdom earned from awful trauma, and watching him slowly assert himself was a wonder to watch. I do think the writers got lost with him, because his second love interest was a bore, his pothead thing was awful to watch, and when he became a twitch streamer with Taylor—WHAAACK. By the time of Good Trouble (which takes place years after The Fosters, so Jude is a sophomore/junior in college) Jude is drinking a LOT, partying a LOT, and fucking!!! a LOT!! Makes me concerned. Idk, it just felt like he lost his intuition halfway through the show and kept doing dumb stuff.

a character I’m indifferent about:

Every ex of the family lmao, idr them and I was not too fired up about any of them except maybe Emma. Like all of Jesus’ and Brandon’s exes I can’t remember.

a character who deserved better:

I’m just gonna make a list

AJ. Literally just him and Mike are just the cutest because of how earnestly the actor plays AJ, you know I love found family tropes and stuff.

 Mat. Such a sweetheart, the most accommodating and supportive boyfriend. So talented. Gorgeous hair. Mariana didn’t deserve him.

Cole. This boy fought SO HARD to be recognized for his gender, organized an LGBTQA prom for all his classmates who were rejected from their school’s prom, had to get hormones off the black market, and was so intuitive and loyal... honestly I loved Cole.

Aaron. SUCH a confusing end. Out of all the love interests, he and Callie popped with the most chemistry. The shared quest, the rides on the motorcycle, pictures at the beach, his great college advice. Their fight at her prom was so left-field and upsetting, and we know it’s because they wanted Callie to be single when the series ended so she could be free to date in Good Trouble. If I’m not mistaken, theirs is the first trans/cis relationship portrayed on network television... ever? And I mean a relationship, not a hook up.

Wyatt. Another sweetheart, what happened between him and Callie wasn’t really about him, it was about her and it was definitely about legal issues, and she was right to set her boundaries, but ouch that hurt. Gorgeous hair.

Notice how most of this list either dated Callie or crushed on her lmao except for Mat. Also

Rita. The woman lives and breathes childcare and youth advocacy. Let her win.

DAPHNE KEENE. She had her daughter with her in the series finale but I haven’t heard mention of her yet in Good Trouble, she’d better have custody and a job salary over 70k for what this show put her through.

EMMA. This poor girl was practically torn in two between the twins, from Jesus’ messy/horny ass to Mariana’s bossy controlling ass. She should be president.

a ship I’ve never been able to get into:

Most of Jesus’ relationships. He’s a fuck up so all of them are basically waiting for a train wreck. His most healthy one was with Emma, who was too good for him, and the one with most chemistry was with Lexi, but she was messy af too so that wasn’t going to work.

a ship I’ve never been able to get over:

Jude/Connor. It sailed and sunk in two minutes. So apparently, Jude/Connor have the youngest LGBT kiss shown on television. This show really made history, huh. They were adorable, they literally struggled to be a couple (since Connor’s dad is homophobic) and then after being a couple for like 2 episodes, Connor’s dad walking in on them kissing and basically blowing up was so traumatizing for the kid that he moved in with his mom in LA to get away from him. They try to do the long distance thing but they're middle schoolers... and it’s their first relationship each... and both of them are just now figuring out that they’re gay. it doesn’t work out. Would love for Connor to come back in Good Trouble and try to woo Jude or something (cuz Jude...???? he’s just FUCKING... ALL the time. Like one second he’s the adorable 12-year-old you just want to shield from the world, and then it’s like TIME SKIP, he’s a college frat boy now and he fucks “straight” boys every weekend).

a cute, low-key ship:

an unpopular ship but I still enjoyed it:

Stef/Lena; because they’re the main couple on the show and yet we as the audience forget that they’re even an option as an OTP. These two are marriage goals. They fight, they argue, they have conflicting viewpoints, but they always sit down and talk at the end of the day, and they pull it together because of their love for the kids and each other. I live for them, I seriously wanted them to adopt me. I’d cook for the family so they would be an ounce less stressed. They’re such great moms and they try SO hard to be there for the kids, who each come with truckloads of baggage and problems all befitting network TV teen drama protagonists.

a ship that was totally wrong and never should have happened:

BRALLIE. They’re SIBLINGSSSS AHHHH. “But they’re foster siblings” I DON’T CARE. This is not a damn Victorian novel, it’s gross. Maybe in season 1 it wasn’t as bad since Callie had zero intentions of staying with the Adams-Fosters family and was used to being bounced around in foster care, but after bonding with them all and truly believing they wanted her, season 2 onward Brallie disgusts me.

Mariana/Nick. Let’s talk about his actor for a second. Louis Hunter played a teenager in The Secret Circle back in 2011 (don’t @ me but I loved that show) and guess what, friends, he was TOO FUCKING OLD to play a teenager THEN. That opinion stands 7 years later. An absolute creep who traumatized Mariana, the girl had to go to THERAPY. She went to THERAPY because of him.

Lena/Monte. UGHHHHHHHHh this made me so mad. Monte was being so gross and inappropriate, like not only is Lena her employee/subordinate... but Lena is a WOMAN. She’s grown as hell and confident in her identity and has a whole ass wife (a WIFE) and a family to take care of, and here comes Monte with her weird ass flirtations and stuff. She could NEVER. Lena is a goddess and Monte but an ant crawling on the sidewalk outside her temple.

my favourite storyline/moment:

When Stef confronted her internalized homophobia and misogyny during his breast cancer scare and she cut her hair to symbolize her ownership of her femininity. That was POWERFUL. Stef actually had so many great emotional arcs throughout the show; losing her father (who never really “got” her “lesbianism”), her mother’s breast cancer scare, HER breast cancer scare, her fight to become a detective, maybe it’s Teri Polo but Stef is such a stand-up, rigid character with such a strong moral center that watching her trudge through emotional trauma every gd episode was riveting.

Jude’s selective mutism. I remember this out of nowhere, but Jude went mute?? And he had to see a therapist, who deduced his problem and attributed it to an anxiety disorder and advised the family not to stress him out or pressure him to talk, and he went like this for a couple episodes. Like this boy went through so much trauma that it took like one thing, one little thing, to make him shut down. And Callie like patiently waiting for him to speak, and then her seeing her rapist and the only person she wanted to talk to about it was her little brother and he still wouldn’t talk, he just sits there playing video games, and she sends him a message on Xbox Live saying ‘Please talk to me’ and he ignores it then she sends another message “I saw Liam today” and he just looks at her as tears are falling down her face and places his hand on her arm in support. I. CRIED. Even after that moment, like in the next episode he’s still mute and Callie reminds him again that he’s been so strong compared to her that he’s “due for a breakdown” and not to feel any pressure to talk before he’s ready, and they fucking plant flowers together for Lena (I’m covering my mouth with one hand to keep from crying, I’m getting old feels. Remember when we used to say ‘feels’?). Ok I’m done.

Ok the storyline where Brandon is caught cheating for people on the SATs and won’t be able to go to Juilliard was POWERFUL. I loved that Brandon and Lena had a lot of bonding moments, and Lena was honest with Brandon in a way no one else was, she was like these are the consequences of your actions. You had decisions to make and you made the bad decisions every time, and now you’re here. Remember when you selling fake IDs for that dealer ended with your hand getting smashed so you can’t play classical music any more? Did you learn from that? Clearly not. POWERFUL. Lena scalped me on that day.

a storyline that never should have been written:

Most of Brandon’s storylines lmao. Him selling the fake IDs, him taking SATs for other students, him dating that 21+ woman with a kid and deciding he has to drop out of school and get a full time job to take care of her??? I love how Stef had to pull him aside and tell him “You’re Captain Save-A-Ho! And I know this because you got your Save-A-Ho gene from me!!” Brandon was MESSY. Despite being the typically “boring” of the kids in that he didn’t party or drink, he had interest in typical teen stuff, he was also impulsive in the worst way with his relationships and would get tunnel vision. Remember when Stef and Lena had to pull a restraining on Brandon for Callie??? My godddddd, a MESS. We’re not going to talk about how he finally fell in love with the right girl and she fucking dies.

BRALLIE. That bit where Callie didn’t think she was getting adopted so she FUCKS BRANDON, I’M NOT OVER IT. AHHHH.

Jude becoming a pothead. It was really dumb. I’d have been happier if the focus was on his anxiety and how it helped him.

Everything Monte related.

The time Jude downloaded Grindr and met up with a guy in his motel room?? And the guy was a grown man?? And of course he freaks out because Jude is a kid and tells him to gtfo??? That made me SOOOOO uncomfortable, which is why I hated it. BUT, I liked how the moms handled it, because obviously he’s a boy who’s curious and he’s surrounded by other kids—especially his four siblings with their tumultuous whirlwind of relationships—who are constantly making out with this person and hooking up with that person, and because he’s gay... and has this limited dating pool... and his first love moved to another fucking city to escape his homophobic dad... how does he get to explore his sexuality? who does he get to kiss at a party? This was so relatable, so many lgbtqa youth deal with this everyday, this sort of social pressure and FOMO as the cis straight kids around us are hitting all these romantic and sexual milestones while we’re sitting on an island. And obviously Stef and Lena sympathize, but then empathize how incredibly dangerous it was because Jude could’ve gotten hurt, there are guys out there who could do terrible things to him and he has to think these things through, not to mention the guy in question could’ve been just a normal dude trying to get it on and that he was put in danger—and this was the same season that explores how Jesus and Mariana’s birth father ended up on the sex offenders’ registry. It was handled well but remembering this storyline gives me anxiety.

The Jack storyline. I forgot this kid’s name and what happened to him so I had to peruse the wiki and I fell down a rabbit hole. Basically, this is a kid who was in a privatized group home, during a season in which Callie does volunteer work with a woman, Justina Marks, who is trying to pass a bill to reform child social services—only to discover that she wants to privatized the foster system to make money off of them, which of course makes Callie like do a BUNCH of risky stupid shit to take her down. So Jack gets temporarily moved into the Adams-Fosters home, proving to be a very quirky, quiet, sensitive boy, he kisses Jude after Jude’s breakup with Connor? Then reveals he’s not actually gay, he just wanted Jude to be happy? And it’s really fucking sad because he has this bleeding heart and this need to make everyone around him happy because he sees himself as this burden. Then he gets placed into a new foster home, despite Stef and Lena wanting to keep him around... and he gets put in the same foster home with the same man who abused Jude in the show’s pilot—and like the inciting incident for the show itself (Callie destroying his car to distract him from beating her brother > her going to juvie > her getting beat up in juvie > Lena seeing this poor bruised up girl and thinking “she’s my daughter now”). So Jack ends up being fostered by the horrible, abusive man who should never have been allowed to be within feet of a child again, and Stef just so happens to be one of the officers nearby when a domestic disturbance is called in, and when she arrives at the house with her partner she’s like “bruh I know this house” and when she goes into the kitchen she steps on something: a pair of glasses. Whose glasses???

JACK’S. And she quietly lays a sheet over his dead body. His foster father, who’d already been arrested once for beating Jude, shot him in a drunken rage. And CALLIE LATER FINDS OUT JuSTINA MARKS SET IT UP TO USE AS HER FACE CASE IN SUPPORT OF HER BILL.

my first thoughts on the show:

Literally the first time I heard the theme song when I randomly decided to watch it on Netflix in like 2014 (2015? I can’t remember, I don’t think season 3 was out at that point so it might’ve been 2014) I was like oh this is going to be the crying show.

I was right. I would not rewatch this show lmao, but I’m fond of it. I did randomly decide to start watching Good Trouble and surprisingly I like it and I missed the characters. I can look back and appreciate how this show handled a lot of tender topics as tastefully as they could, and examine them from a lot of different angles.

Ok so keep in mind that I’ve only watched the first season and it was very recently, so I’m probably missing a few things!

my all time ultimate fave character

I think I have to go with Maria DeLuca for this one. I love how weird she is, and how she never tries to be anything other than herself. I love how loyal she is to everyone. The alien thing freaked her out at first, but her empathy was strong enough that she didn’t tell the police anything. She’s such a great friend to Liz, and of course loves and supports Michael, but also calls him on his shit.

A character I didn’t used to like but now I do

I gotta say, I wasn’t all that into Liz Parker at first. I think this was influenced by my deep abiding love for Liz Ortecho. In comparison, Liz Parker struck me as a little moony, and unable to talk about basically anything but Max. But overtime, I grew to like her more, and gave her a bit of a break because she is in high school after all. I loved a lot of her friendship with Alex too.

A character I used to like but now I don’t

A character I’m indifferent about

I’m kind of indifferent towards Tess in the first season. I know people have a lot of hate for her, but I don’t yet. I don’t really like her either, she’s just kind of there.

A character who deserved better

Kyle Valenti! He deserved to be let into the gang. Mostly because I just want him in every episode.

A ship I’ve never been able to get into

Honestly I’m just not that into Liz/Max. I didn’t really understand why they couldn’t be together at the beginning and so all the tension didn’t really make sense to me. I know, sacrilege. But I’ve only seen the first season.

I mean probably Michael/Maria. I’ve only seen the first season, but it’s already so good. The dramatic scene in the rain? All the banter? I’m into it.

I loved anything with all six (Max, Michael, Isabel, Liz, Maria, and Alex) working together. I loved the scene at the quarry where one of them says “there are six people I trust and they’re all right here” because that found family, loyalty crap is my jam.

Oh wow it’s weird to watch this 20 years later and having watched RNM first, I’m not sure I’m gonna be able to get into this.

Procrastination = ([TGCF + Scum Villain] + [MBTI + Enneagram])

Brought to you by procrastination on an actual meta and a crack fanfic I wanna write. and a semi-functioning brain after a Week TM personally and professionally. 

I covered MDZS’s character personality types for the MBTI here and for the Enneagram here, and so now I really wanted to do both of these for the characters from Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System and TGCF. Except the thing is I have only read through 114 of TGCF (bless the translators) and there are still about 15 chapters left of Scum Villain, so because I feel like in an MXTX novel anything can happen to change my view of the characters and what they truly want (which is vital to the Enneagram), I’m only going to go with Enneagram for the main characters, but MBTI for everyone. 

For the MBT introI: The Myers-Briggs Personality type is older than the Enneagram, and consists of sixteen types based on four different pairs of personality traits: Introversion vs. Extroversion; Sensing vs. Intuition, Feeling vs. Thinking, and Perceiving vs. Judging. To be clear, none of these categories are black and white–for example, all Feelers are capable of using logic, and Thinkers have feelings and care about people–but it’s a cool way of understanding personalities.

For the Ennagream intro: The Enneagram classifies people based on their motivations and their fears into nine basic “types,” and each type also comes with a “wing” to an adjacent type (in other words, someone who is Type 1 can have a 2 wing or a 9 wing, etc.) Each type also has “arrows” meant to depict that as they grow, they grow in the direction of another type, and as they grow more stressed, they disintegrate towards yet another type. There are also “levels” of health within each type (Basic descriptions are taken from the Enneagram Institute.) 

Scum Villain

Shen QingQiu (Shen Yuan)-->INTJ, “The Architect” 

With a natural thirst for knowledge that shows itself early in life, Architects are often given the title of “bookworm” as children... Architects enjoy sharing what they know as well, confident in their mastery of their chosen subjects, but they prefer to design and execute a brilliant plan within their field rather than share opinions on “uninteresting” distractions like gossip... Key Motivations: Want to possess knowledge, to understand the environment, to have everything figured out as a way of defending the self from threats from the environment.

Specifically I’d say he’s a 5 with a 6 wing, “The Problem Solver.” A 6′s core desire is for safety and support. 

Luo BingHe-->ESFJ “The Consul”

Consuls love to be of service, enjoying any role that allows them to participate in a meaningful way, so long as they know that they are valued and appreciated. This is especially apparent at home, and Consuls make loyal and devoted partners and parents. Consul personalities respect hierarchy, and do their best to position themselves with some authority, at home and at work, which allows them to keep things clear, stable and organized for everyone.

For the Ennagream, I’d say he’s a Type 3, “The Achiever.” 

Basic Fear: Of being worthless

Basic Desire: To feel valuable and worthwhile

Key Motivations: Want to be affirmed, to distinguish themselves from others, to have attention, to be admired, and to impress others.

I think he’s also more likely a 3w4, “The Professional.” A 4 is motivated to find themselves and their significance in the world, and can be... moody.

Liu QingGe-->ISTJ “The Logistician”

Logistician personalities are no-nonsense, and when they’ve made a decision, they will relay the facts necessary to achieve their goal, expecting others to grasp the situation immediately and take action. Logisticians have little tolerance for indecisiveness, but lose patience even more quickly if their chosen course is challenged with impractical theories.

Ning YingYing-->ENFP, The Campaigner 

The Campaigner personality is a true free spirit. They are often the life of the party, but unlike types in the Explorer Role group, Campaigners are less interested in the sheer excitement and pleasure of the moment than they are in enjoying the social and emotional connections they make with others. 

Ming Fan-->ESTJ, “The Executive” 

they expect their reliability and work ethic to be reciprocated – people with this personality type meet their promises, and if partners or subordinates jeopardize them through incompetence or laziness, or worse still, dishonesty, they do not hesitate to show their wrath. 

Shang QingHua-->ISFP, “The Adventurer” 

Hilariously this is the same type I think Nie HuaiSang is, and I think Shang is pretty likely an HuaiSang prototype. 

Adventurers live in a colorful, sensual world, inspired by connections with people and ideas. These personalities take joy in reinterpreting these connections, reinventing and experimenting with both themselves and new perspectives.

Zu ZhiLang-->ISFJ, “The Defender”

The challenge for Defenders is ensuring that what they do is noticed. They have a tendency to underplay their accomplishments, and while their kindness is often respected, more cynical and selfish people are likely to take advantage of Defenders’ dedication and humbleness by pushing work onto them and then taking the credit. Defenders need to know when to say no and stand up for themselves if they are to maintain their confidence and enthusiasm.

While the story isn’t finished translation-wise, I feel like Snake Boy is likely an Enneagram 6, “The Loyalist,” but we shall see. 

TGCF/Heaven Official’s Blessing

Xie Lian–>INFJ, “The Advocate”

it is most important for Advocates to remember to take care of themselves. The passion of their convictions is perfectly capable of carrying them past their breaking point and if their zeal gets out of hand, they can find themselves exhausted, unhealthy and stressed...

To Advocates, the world is a place full of inequity – but it doesn’t have to be.

For the Enneagram, he is a 2, “The Helper.”

Hua Cheng–>ISFJ, “The Defender.”

For the Enneagram, I think he’s an 8, “The Challenger,” and specifically an 8w9, “The Bear.”
