OMG, that s2 "Rings of Power" trailer!!! 😀 There was so much in there and I saw almost all the characters, including Sam Hazeldine as Adar now and it looked similar enough that I realized it was him. The show looks so much darker and I loved that scene with the elves as the did the "Avengers" spin showing all of them with their weapons!!! And OMG Charlie as that Sauron!!! Little spoilerly here but I did not expect him to have the blonde/white wig but so happy that is still him after seeing rumors say it wasn't. And saw so many different rings in it and some of the new cast. So excited it'll be back finally starting August 29th!!!

4, 11 and 12 for the trop ask meme! :)
thank you!!
4. Favorite story arc?
Probably the Elrond and Durin story, I loved seeing their friendship rekindled and then put to the test by the crisis the Elves are facing and King Durin III's unwillingness to help. I enjoyed Durin & Disa's relationship as well, and seeing how quickly she became friends with Elrond
11. What is your favorite quote?
"What cannot be known hollows the mind. Fill it not with guesswork." It just comes up in my head again and again, nice little wise proverb for life + I loved Galadriel's conversations with Theo in general
12. Which outfit do you like the most?
Probably Adar's, love the different textures, it looks grungy and pretty at the same time. I'm obsessed with the glittering chainmail and the river pattern on the breastplate, as well as that badass spiky gauntlet

Green-Eyed Monster
Prompt: Established relationship; Reader is jealous of someone flirting with their spouse Thranduil, who is oblivious [inspo from @nightfall-writer]
Featuring: Thranduil Oropherion x GN!Spouse!Reader
Word Count: 1.5k
Warnings: nothing besides my "Tauriel and Legolas are BFFs" propaganda
Tumblr media
You had no reason for envy.
You were happily wed to the love of your life. Joined the royalty of Eryn Galen through your marriage to the Elvenking Thranduil Oropherion. Doted upon by your husband, and cared for by your subjects. You wanted for nothing.
And yet… in had crept “the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on” (Othello III:3).
There was never any doubt in your mind that Thranduil was faithful to you. His love for you was as unwavering as water downhill. As was yours for him.
He couldn’t help but smile when he saw you, and all but melted into your embrace in the privacy of your bedchambers. The touch of your hand more calming than chamomile. The taste of your lips more intoxicating than wine. Your bare skin more alluring than a soft bed after a long day.
But as wise and regal as your husband was, he could be a bit thick in the head at times.
It had been a whole ordeal for the two of you to come together in the first place. A host of conspirators, led by Legolas and Tauriel. An idiotic dance as the two of you convinced yourselves that your feelings were unrequited. You were surprised that your now step-son had not smacked either of you upside the head at least once. His patience was unparalleled. In this instance at least.
So you couldn’t quite blame your husband for not recognizing others’ romantic interest in him.
There were nobles from other lands, elf, dwarrow, and man alike, who were visiting. After the Battle of the Five Armies and the retaking of Erebor by the line of Durin, he decided (i.e. he was persuaded) to expand trade relations, renew treaties, and welcome ambassadors. It seemed that almost every month brought someone new to his halls.
And you weren’t surprised that someone else would find your husband attractive. Not at all.
When you first met him, you could barely breathe. Ageless beauty. Sleek, shining blond hair. Piercing blue eyes. Luxurious clothing and jewelry with more detail than one could find in a day. Voice and speech that crept into your ears and made a home in your mind. You found the Sindar attractive the moment you saw him.
For an ambassador or noble to find Thranduil handsome meant their eyes functioned in some capacity. To find his voice and speech charming, their ears. That did not bother you. It was when their feelings changed like yours did, from aesthetic appreciation to romantic desire.
And he was oblivious to it all. Your speechlessness the day you met, your intimidation at meeting a king. The eagerness for those to meet with him, an eagerness to engage with Eren Galen and its wealth of materials, labor, and beauty.
Jealousy seemed so irrational an emotion. Thranduil was wholly yours; inattentive towards other romantic pursuits. Doted upon you. Craved your company and affection at all times
But it ate at you. Others and their lingering glances. Flirtatious words. Gentle brushes against him. And the ugliness of what you felt.
Your marriage was still recent, especially by elven standards. You didn’t want to make a fool of yourself. To act like a child who refuses to let others play with their toy. You would turn away and pretend you did not see it, or skip meetings you were not invited to.
Thranduil was concerned. Held you close at night. Reminded you how much he loved you and how brilliant you were. How lucky he was to have you in his life and as his spouse. He must have thought that all the social engagements were draining you.
“I thank you for meeting with us, sir.” You stood from your seat at the head of the table, and everyone else leaped to their feet. It was still a little strange for so many people to hang on your every word. “I will bring your proposal to King Thranduil shortly.”
The man from Dale beamed and bowed low. “Thank you, Your Majesty.”
Most of the councilors filed out, but the nobleman scampered over to your side. Another low bow which you met with a nod.
“Long have I heard of the beauty of elves, Your Majesty…” A quirk in your eyebrow reminded him of his place, and he quickly caught himself. “The beauty of your halls, your craftsmanship and arts. It is an honor to see it all.”
You gave him a polite smile. “Thank you, sir. You are too kind.”
He opened his mouth again for more flattery, but another voice interrupted. One from the doorway.
“Meleth nín?”
There stood your husband, dressed in robes blue as water in moonlight. A tall crown of silver branches. White stones imitated snow and ice amongst the delicate wire.
“Forgive me, sir,” he said, not even sparing the nobleman a glance, “but I must speak with my love now.”
The nobleman quickly excused himself, but hadn’t the chance to leave the room before Thranduil had your hands in his, and his lips on yours.
When he leaned in, you expected a chaste kiss against your cheek. Instead, one hand settled on the back of your neck, and the other placed your hand against his chest. Its opposite quickly mirrored and both of your hands held the fabric of his robe.
Your lips were shiny and your face warm by the time your husband pulled away from you. All the tension had melted from him, and he wasted no time in pressing his forehead against yours and letting his eyes flutter closed again. Once his breath came easy again, he gave you a chaste kiss on the nose.
“Forgive my forwardness, meleth nín,” he cooed in Sindarin, a gentle brush of his hand over your cheek.
“Nothing to forgive, husband.” A kiss to his nose. “How could I be upset at the notion that my husband, the most handsome of all who have lived, live now, and will ever life, desires me?”
A smile at your words, and another kiss on your forehead.
That evening, the two of you were entwined on the couch in your apartments. His head rested against your chest, against your heartbeat, and your fingers combed through his hair and rubbed his back.
A fire crackled in the hearth, and two half-drunk goblets of wine sat on the table at your elbow. A comfortable silence, broken after a good while by a single word.
“Beloved,” he asked quietly.
“Yes?”
“I have a confession. And need your advice.”
The hand formerly in his hair transferred to gently scratch the back of his neck and you briefly squeezed him close with the other arm. He adjusted so he could look up at your face a bit better.
“Of course, meleth nín. What is it?”
“When you were speaking to that man from Dale… I had a foolish thought. Jealousy. I’ve felt it a great deal over the past few weeks, thought I never acted upon it. Until today. I feel childish now, interrupting and publicly expressing physical affection in neither the right time nor the right place. I-”
You cut him off with a kiss to his lips. A startled noise from him, then he pulled himself further up the couch so you could kiss more passionately. He wasn’t entirely sure why you were so taken with the idea of him being so immature, but he was glad you weren’t disappointed.
A quick huff of breath as you pulled apart.
“I love you so much,” you panted, then breaking into giggles. His brows furrowed.
“What is so funny?”
You kissed his nose. “Because I have been feeling jealous the past few weeks. And I hadn’t a clue you were feeling similarly.”
“Why are you feeling jealous?”
“Because,” you flicked his chest, “you have an entourage of nobles, merchants, and ambassadors doting after you. And I was disappointed in myself for being so immature.”
“I do?”
A very unregal snort from you. “Meleth nín, for one so wise, you are so…”
“Don’t finish that sentence.”
More giggles from you. “Very well.”
He rested his head on your shoulder and his nose was tucked comfortably against your throat. The soothing warmth of his breath and the movement of his chest almost lulled you to sleep.
“I don’t think feeling jealousy is a bad thing,” you mused, fingers tracing the embroidery of his leisure dress. “It is a natural part of our behavior, to feel protective of things we love. And you weren’t rude or aggressive, for which I would have been unhappy. I’m glad you love me so much that somewhere in you,” a tap to the side of his head, as if to point the spot out, “a primal sliver encourages you to keep me all to yourself.”
A deep kiss from your husband. One hand behind your neck, cradling your head. The other crept between your back and the couch, fingers pressing into your flesh, pulling you into him as if any distance between you two still existed. You were smiling wide against his lips.
“How silly we both are,” he chuckled after leaning back for air.
Your fingers combed through his hair, finally settling to gently scratch the scalp around his ears.
“Indeed we are, my love.”

RoP Teaser Trailer Breakdown!
First of all, I would like to say, I'm SO PSYCHED for this season! (Especially since we're going to get to see Elrond in action 🫠)
So, it starts off with a shot of saurbrand with Durin voicing over saying, "An evil, ancient and powerful, has returned!" Obviously, the shot is referencing Sauron and how he’s ancient, powerful, and evil, but I think that that's not what Durin is actually talking about in-universe. I think he’s actually referencing the balrog!
Honestly, given the scenes of panic and destruction in Khazad-Dûm we see later in the trailer, I think there's a good chance the season finale will deal with the fall of Khazad-Dûm at the hands of the balrog.
Tumblr media
The next shot is this roiling mass of... things that take on a spider-like form. Obviously, that's going to be Shelob.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next is a clip with Galadriel and Elrond, along with three elven warriors in a defensive circle. I'll be honest, I have no idea where they are or who/what they're fighting, but I am LIVING for Galadriel's braid crown. Gorgeous, practical, 10/10.
Also, we finally get to see Elrond fight! He toted that sword around all last season and didn't pull it out once! And, I love his new hair! Robert Aramayo, bless his heart, has a VERY angular face and the slicked back style was doing him no favors. It could just be messy hair in this one scene, but it's beautiful.
Next is a shot of the hands of one of the Rhûnic witches we saw last season with blood on her hands. Maybe some kind of blood sacrifice?
After that is a similarly lit shot of a temple (?) with a swarm of moths. I... have no idea what that's about, but I'm excited to find out!
Then there's a brief voice-over of either the Stranger (whom I maintain is definitely Gandalf) or maybe one of the southlanders? saying, "He worms his way inside your mind." As the scene cuts to the golden tree in Lindon as worm-like roots come out of the ground and begin to spread.
I think it looks a little like the mass that made up Shelob, but I don't really know what significance that could have? I can't imagine her crossing Middle Earth to bite the tree like Ungoliant did, but who knows. I also don't know the significance of who's speaking, but that's mostly because I can't tell who's speaking.
Then there's a quick cut to orcs and trolls on the move, presumably in Mordor.
After that, we're back in Ost-in-Edhil as Celebrimbor is watching a bright, orange light with a dark shape in the middle, like someone's coming through. It almost looks like... an eye 🤔
Tumblr media
It's GOT to be the coming of Annatar. There's literally nothing else it could be!
Someone else, either Galadriel or Míriel, says "I think he has been here... I think he has been here all along!" Obviously, they're talking about Sauron and how he's been spying on them, making me think it's Galadriel speaking.
Then a shot of Ost-in-Edhil in confusion as Annatar stalks through the town square, a smirk on his face. This could be the beginning of the end of Ost-in-Edhil (and Celebrimbor) but I really don't think they'd do that so soon. Maybe he just got done with the Dwarf rings?
Next, there's a shot of Númenor's coastline along with the release date (August 29th!) then a shot of Galadriel and Elrond on horseback going... somewhere. There's mountains and my first thought was Númenor, but that wouldn't really fit. Maybe this is the discovery of the hidden valley?
Tumblr media
What do we think?
Then, it's Míriel in the ocean with a giant sea-monster, possibly the one that attacked the southlanders' raft. I think she's having some sort of vision. Like a "this is the final fate of your people" sort of thing. That or Ar-Pharazon made her walk the plank lol.
Then there's shots of Disa, King Durin III, and a boulder breaking a bridge in Khazad-Dûm as someone says, "Every soul in middle earth is in danger," reinforcing my idea that we're going to see Khazad-Dûm become Moria. Also, Disa seems angry, and Durin III seems to be stuck in a cave? Coupled with the LITERAL BROKEN BRIDGE, it almost makes me think that Disa's gone full Lady MacBeth and is trying to get her husband into power.
Then a shot of Elendil in a crowd being pushed back by soldiers. Maybe something to do with the Faithful? Maybe Míriel's being executed? I have no idea.
The next shot is of Galadriel screaming which, while beautiful to hear, had no context, so I have no clue what it is. It's immediately followed by an orc licking his knife.
Next is a shot of a city (I think it's Lindon, but it could be Ost-in-Edhil or Armenelos) with the words "Darkness will bind them" immediately followed by a shot of the three elven rings on people's fingers. One is definitely Galadriel, another Gil-Galad, and I THINK the other is Celebrimbor.
Then the leaves of the great tree in Lindon turning from green to gold very quickly (I have no idea what that is. Could just be them showing off the tone?)
Durin III picks up a ring of power. I could really see this being a major point of conflict in the coming season. We already know that political tension is rising in Khazad-Dûm: Durin IV has been disinherited by his father, Disa wants Durin IV to be king, Durin III is against mining mithril while Durin IV and Disa are all for it, and presumably there's a brother in there somewhere who would very much like a chance at the throne. A ring of power in that situation would be like throwing a torch into a tinderbox!
Next, we see Arondir flipping and shooting an orc with Isildur in the background, which means we're going to see Arondir and Isildur team up! Not as cool as Elrond and Isildur would be, but there's still plenty of time for that. I think Arondir is probably trying to help him get home to Númenor.
After that is a shot of Númenor with a GIANT eagle coming in for a landing and then it switches to a shot of Ar-Pharazon drawing his sword in front of the eagle.
Tumblr media
Y'all, this is INTERESTING! Giant eagles are signs/emissaries/agents of Manwë, the head dude of the valar! In book canon, Númenor is destroyed and Ar-Pharazon dies because he challenged the valar in his pursuit of immortality. Here, it looks like he's swearing to fight FOR the valar, like he has the backing of the gods. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THIS SCENE OR IT'S GOING TO EAT ME!!!
Next is a shot of Theo crying, probably at his mom's funeral. (Bronwyn is dead, folks. Super dead. I don't know how it happened yet, but it will probably be offscreen as I heard the actress has decided to take a break from acting. We need to be respectful of that though, even if it leads to weird narrative choices, because real world problems trump fantasy 😔)
Then, there's a short shot of Isildur looking up (🤷‍♂️) and, more importantly, a shot of flaming catapults firing on Ost-in-Edhil.
Tumblr media
There's one of two things this could be. Either, it's Sauron's army trying to conquer the city to get to the rings, or more likely, it's elvish forces (led by Elrond?) trying to free Ost-in-Edhil from Sauron's hold and rescue Celebrimbor. If THAT’S the case, it makes more sense that the Galadriel and Elrond riding horses shot was them finding the hidden valley, AND that means we might also get to see Celebrimbanner 😈.
Next is a shot of the new Adar, who doesn't look half bad, followed Gandalf the stranger in Rhûn hitting his staff on the ground and I think creating a wind. I think we're really going to see him come into his power this season!
Then, we see Galadriel pulling back a FLAMING arrow and blowing up a regiment of orcs. Then Elrond leading a cavalry charge. I'm guessing this is all during the attack to break the siege of Ost-in-Edhil.
After that, a very disheveled looking Celebrimbor drops seven (SEVEN!!! ALMOST DEFINITELY THE DWARF RINGS) into the forge fire. If I had to guess, I would say this shot is some time during his captivity and maybe he's escaped and is trying to destroy the rings of power he knows Annatar/Sauron had a hand in.
Next, we cut to a shot of Annatar in the debris of the forge (possibly destroyed when Celebrimbor tried to destroy the rings?) surrounded by sword wielding elves. Interestingly, they do NOT look like Elrond’s forces. Instead, they look more like Celebrimbor's own workmen. We can also see Celebrimbor in this shot WITH A MISSING HAND!!! (Seriously, what is with the Tolkien stories and losing a hand? First Maedhros, then Beren (as well as someone else I can't remember right now) and now poor Celebrimbor!?)
Galadriel gasps, "He is Sauron" and Annatar turns his hands and explodes the guards away, which immediately cuts to an explosion in a mountain valley. The smoke clears to reveal what I think is going to be the foundations of Barad-Dûr.
All in all, I think we're in for a TREAT this season with lots of Elrond, lots of dwarves, and LOTS of Celebrimbor whump. Honestly, I think we may even have a shot at seeing Celebrimbanner during the season finale! I doubt we're getting the fall of Númenor yet, the the fall of Khazad-Dûm is DEFINITELY on the table. SO EXCITED!!!

One thing about The Rings of Power I feel doesn’t get enough attention or discussion is the soundtrack. Howard Shore’s soundtracks for the LOTR films are amazing and are in a category all their own, but Bear McCreary has made something totally unique and beautiful that feels like it fits another age of Middle-earth without even trying to emulate Shore’s work, and that’s quite an achievement.
I was listening to an interview he did about his work on the show, and he talked about how, for each culture, there’s a theme that encapsulates that culture’s values and aesthetics and concerns, as well as those of the current leader who embodies those cultural values, and then there’s an individual character theme that kind of serves as a counterpoint to the generic cultural theme. I think that’s really fascinating, and you can see a lot of examples.
The example McCreary gave in the interview was the dwarven kingdom of Khazad-dum. You have the main cultural theme, itself titled “Khazad-dûm,” which is bold and brassy and anthemic, but not very personal; and then you have “Durin IV,” which still embodies a dwarven aesthetic and feel, but has a lot of personality with its jaunty fiddles. “Khazad-dûm” gives you a sense of the place, with its stoniness and its angular architecture and its status as one of the great wonders of the world, while “Durin IV” gives you a really good sense of what that particular character is like; and the differences between the two themes give you a good idea of the tensions between Durin IV and his father, Durin III, who, as the king of Khazad-dum, is represented by the broader cultural theme.
You get this with a lot of the other cultures and kingdoms, too. For the Harfoots, the dominant culture theme is “Harfoot Life,” which embodies the cultural aesthetic of closeness to nature and nomadic life. It has an upbeat, wandering feel, but the percussion at the beginning of the piece feels surreptitious and sneaky, alluding to their practice of hiding from Big People, and some of the background strings have a very set pattern that encompasses the more lilting, wandering main melody, suggesting that while the Harfoots are nomadic, they keep to very specific trails and don’t like to explore outside the range of their normal movements. The individual/counterpart theme is “Nori Brandyfoot,” which still has that upbeat wandering feel, but also feels much more yearning. There’s a desire to see new things and new places that comes from its strings and especially the Irish pennywhistle.
The “Númenor” theme, similar to “Khazad-dûm,” is big and anthemic, but there’s also a sense of ancientry and larger-than-life wisdom and heroicism. It gives the feeling that the people of this culture are inheritors of dignity and grandeur in their architecture, arts, sciences, and lore. As a companion to this, the “Elendil and Isildur” theme still has that feeling of grandness, but the grandness feels more remote, like a background or an echo, while the real emotion of the piece is not that wonder at an astonishing spectacle, but a real, human yearning (which speaks to Isildur, I think) and also an affectionate warmth and dependability and quiet strength that really suggests Elendil’s presence. So these two values of love for family and a calling for something else feel very particular and personal, especially set against that monumental feel of “Númenor.”
For the Elves, it’s a bit more complicated. There isn’t really a theme that embodies the dominant culture of the Elves, but there is still an interesting point-counterpoint relationship between the two elven themes that we do get. There’s the theme for “Elrond Half-elven,” which is warm, personal, and feels very safe and secure, while also suggesting the almost spiritual otherworldliness of the elves. It really does evoke a personality which feels, to invoke Tolkien’s own description of the character, “as kind as summer.” In contrast, though, we also have the “Galadriel” theme, which still has that spiritual otherworldliness but feels anything but safe and secure. It has a feeling of longing that I think is stronger than any of the yearning qualities in any of the other themes in the score, and I think the intensity of that longing comes from the theme’s inherent grief and loss, and, more importantly, trauma. The theme really effectively communicates the sense of sorrow and of one’s world being upended and of an innocence lost, of being transformed by something harrowing from which there is no coming back; only healing and moving on to something new and different, or being drawn ever more toward darkness.
And finally (for the purposes of this discussion, anyway—there’s a ton more I could go on and on about, other themes I haven’t even mentioned), I want to talk about the Southlands. Their dominant cultural theme is actually entitled “Halbrand,” which makes sense as he’s the exiled long-lost king of their culture. As with “Númenor,” there’s an air of age and history, but it’s less ancient and more medieval. It actually uses the Hardanger fiddle, the same instrument that made Shore’s theme for Rohan so iconic. But here, it feels despondent, a bit hopeless. It speaks of a heritage, but one that is a burden rather than a source of pride. In stark contrast to that is “Bronwyn and Arondir,” which has a much lighter feel, like a sudden breath of fresh air. There’s a sense of longing, but in that longing is also hope. A longing for something that feels possible, feels almost within one’s grasp; an appropriate feeling for a romantic theme. Just as Bronwyn in the story offers her people a way forward, a chance to defend their home against the enemy their ancestors once allied with, her theme also embodies that hope, one that stands in contrast to the weight of her culture’s deterministic guilt and hopelessness.
So yes, Bear McCreary deserves all the praise for his work on Rings of Power. We could have just got a Howard Shore impersonator, which would have probably been okay, but almost certainly wouldn’t have had the depth and dynamic, almost call-and-response structure of the actual soundtrack we have.

Some assorted thoughts/speculations/general yellings after watching the s2 trailer and behind the scenes video after about a dozen times each. (Spoilers galore!)
SAURON. :DDD
2. Isildur lives!! I mean, obviously, I knew he would, but it's nice to get a glimpse of what he's up to. Looks like he's in some sort of creepy cave - maybe he's going to discover Shelob's lair?? I can just see our disaster baby taking shelter in what he thinks is a nice safe cave, only to find it's the home of an ancient menace. That would be so on-brand for him. :P (Maybe that's also part of the reason that he founds Minas Ithil later, if he knows there's something horrible up there up the Spider Stairs that needs guarding against?) Also very excited that he and Arondir seem to be teaming up at some point!
Speaking of which...
3. Rather worried that there's no sign of Bronwyn or Nazanin in either vid, but there is a shot of Theo looking very upset. Don't like that at all. D: Also the thing Ismael says about Arondir having a great blow to his spirit. Not liking where this is all pointing to... 😬 Like, in general, I was hoping we would get to see Arondir and Bronwyn, now that they've actually got together, having to reckon with the full Athrabeth-style implications of their relationship. A quick glance at Nazanin's social media suggests she's actually left acting in order to focus on her activist work, especially in the wake of the women's rights protests in Iran. I can only respect her for that, but I will be sad to see her go. I got very attached to her and Arondir. In the meantime, until the show inevitably dashes my hopes, can I just pretend that Bronwyn is FINE, SHE'S FINE ACTUALLY, she's happily setting up her new herb garden in Pelargir and refusing to have anything to do with this ring nonsense?
4. SAURON. :DDD Honestly, I'm just watching all this like
Tumblr media
:')
5. Okay, I love all the jokes about how Annatar is just Sauron in a wig (*gasp* "King Philip II of Spain!!"), but I don't think what we're seeing in the trailer is Annatar. All the shots of him look like they're happening during the fall of Ost-in-Edhil, by which point his cover's blown and he has no more reason to mask himself. (In fact, he might be quite happy to reveal himself in all his glory?) I think that's just Sauron. Which isn't to say that Annatar, or something like him, won't feature, I just think it won't be Charlie Vickers playing him. He's Sauron in his "true" form, if you like.
6. Oh, Celebrimbor. ;___; I was hoping we'd get to hang onto him for a few series, but I don't think that's going to happen. Eregion definitely looks like it's had it this series, in which case he won't be far behind. Unless maybe this series will just end with his capture, as a sort of cliffhanger, and his actual death won't happen till series 3. That would be cruel. That's probably what I would do if I was writing it tbh. I hope they at least give us a few good scenes of him and Narvi before shit goes down.
7. No sign of Ciarán Hinds yet, though I was keeping an eye out. Do we have any idea yet who he's playing?
8. I've seen other people on here suggesting that Durin's line about an ancient evil returning might be about the Balrog, rather than Sauron, and I can see that. Canonically, Khazad-dûm isn't destroyed until the Third Age and the reign of Durin VI, but maybe they're planning to shift that back, as they have with the arrival of the Istari. Or maybe the Dwarves will just manage to beat it back into dormancy for another age? There's a shot of Durin III with what looks like a Ring of Power, and I've seen someone else suggesting that maybe the Dwarves will use it in their fight against the Balrog? (Might I hope that we're going to get the version where it's Celebrimbor who gives Durin that ring...? Please I just love Celebrimbor and the Dwarves so much. ;____;)
9. General joy at seeing more of Durin and Disa!!! If Disa wants to be a heroine, I support her. Likewise, If she still wants to go all Lady Macbeth and get her husband to murder his father for the crown, I still support her. ❤️
10. SAURON. :DDD I know you Haladriel shippers are all enjoying that first shot of him looking all rough and teary-eyed, but I'm hoping we're maybe going to get some flashback scenes of his backstory? Maybe that's him just post-War of Wrath and going "oh shit I need to dig myself out of this fucking hole fast". I would love some flashbacks showing us his dynamic with Morgoth or Aulë. (A scene with Eönwë is, alas, probably a forlon hope.) Or what about that time he was bullied by Lúthien? :D
11. I fear Nori and Gandalf (we're okay to call him Gandalf, right?) are not going to have a wonderful time in Rhûn. 😬 So far it looks pretty bare and desert-y, so I guess a trip to the vineyards of Dorwinion is not on the itinerary? :( No sign of the other Harfoots, so maybe they just plan to focus on Nori's journey until she inevitably returns. Which makes sense, but if that's the case, I'll miss my girl Poppy. :'(
12. Combat Galadriel is still going strong, I see. Mixed feelings on that one. On the one hand, I love Combat Gal and I love her more every time some internet neckbeard posts his cold take on Reddit. On the other hand, since she gave up both her sword and Finrod's dagger by the end of s1, I was hoping we'd start to lean more into her sorceress side. Still plenty of time for that, I suppose, and it's not like the two are mutually exclusive.
13. General joy at seeing all the various blorbos again. :D Hi, Elrond! Hi, Elendil! Hi, Míriel! Hi, Eärien! Hi, Gil-galad! Can't wait to see what you're all up to now. <3
14. I do NOT trust Pharazôn with pointy objects around that eagle. D: Don't hurt that eagle, Pharazôn, if you hurt the eagle you'll make Manwë cry. ;____;
And, last but not least:
15. SAURON. :DDD
Sorry, friends, I am a Sauron fan first and a person second. X'D

I enjoy The Rings of Power.
I am impressed with how well the showrunners are navigating the convoluted, disjointed nature of the Silmarillion, which is what RoP is based on. Between Tolkien’s love for giving characters multiple names (Melkor = Morgoth for example). Tolkien loved to increase his lore by adding bits of previously-written poems/themes/names, reusing character names from his then-unpublished Silmarillion while creating LOTR, and then sometimes added an explanation to show why it would be the same character (Glorfindel) or another one (Legolas). It is all very detailed but also very convoluted. To take all of that lore and put it into a series is quite the feat. So far I am enjoying Rings of Power. They are doing an excellent job navigating through a plot which inevitably leads up to Celebrimbor forging the rings, meanwhile his untrustworthy assistant (Sauron, typically disguised as Annatar, the Lord of Gifts) forged the One Ring behind Celebrimbor’s back.
Right now in the show, we are seeing the story work its way up to creating this special forge, one with flames so hot that it could be the only thing to forge such rings. Beyond that, the story takes a dark turn in the realm of the dwarves as we watch Durin IV defy his father (Durin III) and attempt to mine the mithril veins deep in Moria. We all know what that leads to (Balrogs). Durin IV’s children’s children will suffer the wrath of the balrog that lies in wait beneath Moria (Durin’s Bane) and that whole plotline is setting us up to witness such.
As for Galadriel’s plotline in Númenor - we’ve just been introduced to Ar-Pharazôn. He is single handedly responsible for the destruction of Númenor after he forces Miriel to wed him against her will and becomes king. Then he marched upon Mordor with an army so powerful that Sauron's forces simply deserted him. But Sauron feigned to be overawed at Ar-Pharazôn's prowess while the king brought him back to Númenor as a hostage. Sauron quickly took advantage of his situation to gain Ar-Pharazôn's trust, and by way of careful flattery, lies and half-truths, he soon became the king's closest and most trusted advisor. He was able to corrupt Ar-Pharazôn, convincing him to worship Morgoth in the hope that he would be able to cheat mortality. Some of the results of Sauron's cunning were the erecting of a Great Temple to Morgoth, intense persecution of the Faithful, and the chopping down of the White Tree of Númenor. Soon the king and his followers were worshiping Morgoth openly and burning innocents at the altar of the temple as sacrificial offerings to appease the false god.
Rings of Power is building up to all of this.
Anyone who knows the lore can see that. I am excited to watch it come to life in the series, myself. Beyond all of that, the acting, sets, costumes, special effects, and makeup are incredible. The whole show is nonstop eye candy, especially on the high def TV I currently own. Plus the showrunners have woven in their own little mysteries, like the Stranger discovered by the harfoots. Is he a Maiar that fell from the sky? Is he Ainur? Is he evil? Good? Neutral? Regardless, we will find out. This is an example of an original storyline being woven into canon lore, something to keep fans like me stumped and wondering what comes next (because I already know what comes next for the dwarves and for Númenor).
And the other original storyline featuring the soldier elf Arondir – I really enjoy that one too. Arondir’s experiences are meant to navigate us through the canon lore of the Men of Darkness. These were the evil men to pledge allegiance to Morgoth, as we saw in the most recent episode when one of the characters revealed himself to be in league with the dark lord. Arondir is going to find himself coming to blows with an army of these men, the Easterlings, leading to the birth of one of the first Ring Wraiths, formerly a king of the Easterlings. I am not sure what isn’t to love about Rings of Power or why anyone is saying it is boring. Writers are setting the stage for Balrogs, the corruption and fall of Númenor, divine intervention from a nameless Maiar, the forging of the One Ring, and the birth of the Ring Wraiths. It’s not going to all happen in four episodes during the first season.
And through all of this, Galadriel will bear witness. She sees everything from the attack on Valinor up until she escorts Bilbo and Frodo back to Land Across the Sea. She is the perfect protagonist, still youthful and defiant at the start of this story, likely to grow as seasons press on and become the reserved “Lady of the Woods” we see at the end of her life in Middle Earth. If people don’t like Rings of Power, that’s fine. But their reasons are not very detailed or eloquent. Too many people say the show is “trash”  but have no idea what is bound to happen according to source material. If you don’t like it, then watch something else. But I’ll be happily enjoying it until the story comes to a close.
