Tag game! Tag nine people you would like to know better
I was tagged by @huginsmemory
Last song: According to Spotify, it was Free Spirit by Josef Salvat
Favourite colour: Anything vibrant! My favourite colour is probably teal/turquoise.
Currently watching: Oh man, I am balancing so many shows. In terms of DnD actual plays, I am (mostly) caught up on and watching weekly: Critical Role, Unprepared Casters, Dimension 20 (and all the other Dropout shows) and Worlds Beyond Number. I am also very slowly working my way through campaign 1 of Critical Role (I've been at it for a few years now, but I'm so close to finishing!) In terms of TV shows, I've recently started watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer for the first time, I finished season 1 last night! On the backburner (but I watch when I have time) I am watching Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, She-Ra, and ATLA. I am watching One Piece and Adventure Time with my brother, This is Us with my mom, Bones with my co-worker, and Bojack Horseman and Jujutsu Kaisen with the exchange student living with my family. I'm sure there are more shows I am forgetting, but those are the shows I am actively and semi-actively watching. As of this exact moment, as I write this, I am watching episode 13 of Dimension 20 Fantasy High Junior Year (Infernal Conflict).
Edit: How could I forget Delicious in Dungeon????
Sweet/savory/spicy: Oh man, I have such a sweet tooth. I love savoury as well, but sweet gets my like nothing else.
Relationship status: Single. I would love to be in a relationship someday (I have yet to be in a relationship) but it has not been in the cards yet.
Current obsession: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I am also constantly hyperfixating on my PC from my Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign: Nalvia Rocksnapper.
Last thing you googled: Marshall Lee. I was looking for an image ref to draw him in my journal because of the Adventure Time episode I watched last night with my brother.
To tag: @wall-e-gorl @yarn-dragon @kiwi-green-tea @thebiafalex @entsian @sumersprkl @honey-sunny-bee @seafarerswind @partlymadeofgold and anyone else who wants to (No pressure if you don't want to!)

I am fucking conceptualizing the fucking platformer game I've been thinking about for years because of Pizza Tower and I can't be mad about it fsjkgrns
that game's inspiring
anyhow, Shallow Stares: Portals and Parties thoughts under the cut
At the very start, you get to choose to play as Twelve the Pine Thing, Lantern the Clover Thing, and Serve the Shrub Thing. But you will not be stuck with who you pick the whole game, you get to change it anytime you want.
The whole thing plays out like a metrovania? but also Cuphead and Blasphemous were inspirations too. So like these kids venture off into this dnd world that's actually Earth after an apocalypse. The game starts out all cutesy with the kids running errands and fighting some safe level enemies. Then things go batshit cuz yknow, kids will run into anything. They'll meet crazy prophets, musicians in the woods, nomads with insane "chores", alchemists trying to raise the dead etc. In one point you meet an "adult Twelve". He's actually a completely different person who was summoned the same way Twelve was. Remember that the saplings are born of magic, sometimes a spell can be done exactly the same so what comes out can be the same thing too.
Other than the platform and fighting mechanics, there's dialogues in em too but they're more for understanding what the fuck is happening. The ending changes are slight. they most they can do is tell you how to unlock stuff.
You can get other playable characters, just gotta do sm stuff to get em.
anyway yeah, cute adventures, easing in to crazier things. Then in one point you find a contraption and you gotta use Lantern to magic it. That opens up portals everywhere and the other oc sets are activated.
Think of the portals as a DLC without buying anything bsrbgkrs
So yeah, the sapling you play as can access a between worlds room with all the portals in it and each one of them goes to levels that corresponds the oc set it came from. Example, the She-Clops portals have levels set in Iya's hometown and shit. The Light Plague portals lets you play in 131, the mutation infested upper division, and even the Bounty Hunter brawl ball.
Hell, you get to fight some other ocs as bosses and get them as playable characters. Tho not all of them can be achieved by just beating them, you gotta beat them specifically or complete other achievements.
For now, I can see Morter, Cobalt, Kiwi, Iya, Kipper, Crossbow, GR-17, Nodiel and Cameron as playable characters
You can play Cobalt when you beat his boss. Then like when you talk to him and get into a specific conversation, he'll hint how to get Morter as a playable character vaguely.
"Doc's a pacifist, I don't know if he'd join you little buggers with all this fighting" or smthn and you do get Morter if you clear a TLP level without damaging any enemy.
For PK, you get him when you like I dunno, S rank the Bounty Hunter Brawl level or defeat him first in it. Bounty Hunter Brawl is like a mini boss rush with no arrangement. Enemies are just scattered and you get to pick off which ones you wanna go for, they're occupied with each other after all. Tho it's on sight for anyone in that level. If someone sees you first, you're immediately targeted by that guy.
Iya can be unlocked if you beat her under a time limit, she'll respect your strength. But also unlocking Iya means automatically unlocking Kipper. Iya is more power based because she's really playful and Kipper is speed based because he's very anxious.
The player can make the characters strike a pose by pressing spacebar, make them dance by holding it longer and if it's multiplayer, press it twice for a partner dance if the character allows it.
the ones that can partner are the saplings with each other, Morter with Cobalt, Iya with Kipper, and Grit with Nodiel. Partnering these up in a game can also yield the best results as they were made to be compatible with one another.
ALSO I wanna talk about the differences of the playstyles. Primarily, the default three should explain this on your first try. Twelve is strength, Lantern is skill, and Serve is speed.
Twelve can kill enemies with two hits but he cannot climb walls with momentum. you gotta stab the wall and jump to do that
Lantern can cast spells the best since she has the highest magic level out of the three. She can run up walls a bit, she can make turns faster than Twelve since he's heavier and slips off. You can make her fly for a bit if you want, girl can doublejump too
Serve is the fastest one because they're tiny and thin. They have trouble fighting enemies because of their lighter body. Although, if you don't like to fight and wanna swift through levels + explore for treasure, secrets etc without getting hurt, Serve serves you well. Their inertia is infinite, you can run up anything with this little bab.
The difference between strength and skill is that strength is when a character can fight enemies up close and skill is when it's a ranged attack.
Iya and Kipper are next.
Iya has like a lot of health because she has a lot of momentum. She is fast and strong but very careless. if she tries to slow down, she will have to take a moment gradually losing her speed before she stops completely. She just slips in a lot of places and just straight up slides to the enemy. She one hits most of them but she kills them slow and it locks her in place, makes her vulnerable. She relies on her extra health because this girl is made of bricks. When she runs into stuff that can be destroyed, they get shattered easier but if she runs full speed at a wall that does not get destroyed, she gets stunned for three seconds. Iya has extra protection on her noggin since she has horns and mini antlers, she also does not climb walls but she can jump high and run on all fours for a second on the wall.
Kipper on the other hand is a fucking coward but that means he's good at escaping. Unlike Iya who easily gets locked into place, Kipper is always quick to get up. All this poor boy wants is to get out of the situation. He instantly runs on the second speed and if he runs into enemies, they will not get damaged, they will get just stunned because some kid just pushed them. Instead of punching he shrieks, disarming the enemy. Like Serve, he has infinite momentum. his other form of attack is throwing his head but you need to get the head back.
If it's multiplayer and two people play Iya and Kip, they can run into each other to make the Kirby All Star friend wheel. Invincible until jumping/hitting a wall. When the wheel is cancelled, someone will be flung forwards.
Kipper also has a buff in dark rooms because his head glows.
Cobalt is another speed based character. For other characters, you need to hop a little when going towards obstacles and enemies to disarm/destroy them. It's like a little kick for most but you don't need that, he automatically runs over them. He also automatically deals damage if you near him to an enemy. Everyone else needs to be pressed the attack button for them to hit, Cobalt just instinctively attacks. holding down attack button however makes him charge the tazerblade's electric end. He loses momentum after some time so you gotta jump if he's slowing down. He plays out like someone doing parkour. Do not bother with using ranged weapons, he has a 99.8% chance of missing but a .2% of landing a shot with critical damage. Melee is the way with Cobalt.
Morter on the other hand is skill based character. He's really slow and he relies on the Radicus (the cane gun grappling hook thing) because he is old as shit. He can't run, jump high, or climb but he can swing and plunge spiderman style. Aim the grappling hook by pressing attack fast, anchor it somewhere and pull back so Mort can slide or get lifted in the air. hold attack to charge a blast and let go. the hook can also damage enemies, either bring them to you for a melee smacking or throw them away. Remember! He'd rather be a pacifist so his playstyle is more of skimming the levels and exploratory since the Radicus does not have a limit to the length of the hook.
Tastriphe, my lad PK, Kiwiman, Hellspawn Angel or whatever. While he can be one of the fastest people to play as, he's actually strength based. At the start of the level, his speed is average. But when you start attacking, he gains speed depending on how big the kill count combo is. His attacks come in small hits but it's plentiful and quick as fuck. Yes he's like the fastest at full combo but you have to maintain it/ come back from room to room. dealing damage does nothing, you have to make sure the enemy is not moving anymore to add to the count. Kiwi can turn invisible at a certain speed and has an extra life when the health bar depletes. He also has a higher chance of dealing critical hits with any weapon and melee. Tastriphe is OP which is why he has to be achieved the hardest way.
Crossbow is similarly played like Kiwi since they're both assassins but the difference is that Crossbow emphasizes more on skill than speed. She also has a killcount combo that makes her stronger than faster. Crossbow is quick to dodge and jump to avoid getting hurt and she comes with ... a crossbow. Unlike others, she has auto aim and can reshoot enemy projectiles. Everyone else can parry it, maybe even rethrow it to a random direction but Crossbow reuses the projectile and it will try to return to sender like a heat seeker. Keep her moving because she will start to gloat about herself if kept idle, the more idle time she has, the jankier her controls will be because she's overhyping herself.
Crossbow can be achieved by completing the Crank Those Gears portals.
Nodiel and Grit tho. Nodiel has the least health out of anyone in Portals and Parties. His species are just soft like that but his mech and tech makes up for it. Nodiel is a skill based character. He has a mechanical backpack with three arms coming out off it, "nuggets" (small magnetic devices that electrical surges any machine to make it short circuit. can be used on organisms), and a custom made wrench gun. Gun is for regular use, wrench is when you know you fucked up because you are not supposed to let enemies near him. The robot arms do their work of throwing away enemies, auto parrying projectiles, and cushioning falls. Nodiel can run but he never gains any momentum, the arms can climb anything at any speed tho. Nuggets are thrown around by the arms and stunned enemies are one hit by the arms if hit by a nugget.
Then there's Grit. another tank. slightly higher health than Nodiel's because of how raggedy his parts are. His arm is a cannon, two shots most enemies and can be utilized with boosts, jumps, etc. Grit deals damage bumping into stuff.
Him and Nodiel are perfect for co op. It's a matter of save and be saved for them. Grit protects Nodiel and Nodiel can keep repairing Grit. Nodiel can throw Grit up because Grit can't climb on his own. In solo tho, Grit relies on blasting the ground to get up.
Speaking of partners, there's a solo player level mode with the tag team style. So the character you play as will be randomly swapped to someone else mid level. If your character is anyone with a specific partner, instead of swapping out, they join forces. This changes both character's playstyles since they'll be combined to one control. Right now I can only think of Iya and Kipper kicking each other to knock out enemies
I guess that's it lol
anyway, that's Shallow Stares: Portals and Parties so far

ofmd fic recs? please? every time i go on ao3 i get depressed at how many of them are wildly out of character and i quit
oh! hello! I don't exactly get a lot of these requests (zero. I get zero of these requests), and though I read a tonne of fic, I tend to forget most of it (probably because, yeah, a tonne of it veers straight into ooc cringe), but I'll do my best combing through my bookmarks and history, lol
if you're looking for non-ed/stede content, I can recommend frenchie (at the centre of it all) by santanico; and suck the rot right out of my bloodstream by nevershootamockingbird / @nevershootamockingbird
AUs? I gotcha! short but sweet, I thoroughly enjoyed a small adventure by gangnamstiles / @sassygwaine (DnD actual play media AU); I also loved their this tired world could change and series (modern AU), though I do think it's such a thoroughly well fleshed out AU that I don't know if I'd call it necessarily in character...? but not OUT of character. if that makes sense. (if you see this, adrian, that is a compliment, I promise!)
or how about A Drop of Nelson's Blood by Thirst_Aid_Kit? ren faire AU which definitely has its moments, so I think on it fondly. I also highly recommend Once Upon a Summer in San Francisco by samwise, which has an annoying tendency to woobify Stede, but it's also fantastic, and it's one of few modern AUs that makes Ed and Stede kiwis, for which I am eternally grateful <3
I'm not quite sure I'd put it in the most in-character category, but Ed is so enthusiastic in Squid-life Crisis by nerbert that I think it's worth a go! I also enjoyed like a flower in bloom, how the ink flows over your skin by ChangeTheCircumstances purely for making Stede a convicted felon for Nigel's manslaughter
I THINK I remember loving the on a homeward path we go set by kirkaut / @kirkaut but it's been a bit since I actually read it, so no guarantees? worth a go though :) same goes for separating salt from water by morian / @nonagethimus.
I'm biased by the sewing content, but Good as Mended by EternalLibrary / @imaginariumgeographica was a god damn delight with some very sweet, quiet dialogue. also shoutout to ko wai tana ingoa? by bayaningnituon for the Maori content we need and deserve
and that's about as far into my ao3 history as I think I'm gonna get for the day, I gotta go have lunch. XD but obviously I can't leave without spruiking my own No narrow sea he has to cross, because someone actually bookmarked it with the comment that it's in character, so. I'm not JUST stoking my own ego. promise. XD
EDIT: OH ALSO MY BIG LONG S2 FIX IT FIC IF AND WHEN I EVER GET AROUND TO FINISHING/POSTING IT >.>

Dnd session recap - Broken bonds and bodies
You know what, this is becoming kind of a standard disclaimer at this point. But sweet fuck I am bad at doing these write up’s in a timely manner. Not that it matters, but I’m trying to get better I promise. Anyway, on with whatever I can remember from a session from about 2 months ago!
We start with a bit of a rewind and some Vieraen shenanigans that took place part way through last session. While everyone is out finishing a dark ritual to summon a tower, Vieraen is out to be a menace. He finds some children in an alley and asks them if they know how to delete someone or if there is anyone who would know … how to delete someone. They end up taking him to a ramshackle tent in one of the slums with basically the most kiwi orc ever known named Jake Johnson and then get to talking about poisons and just how good they are. After a bit of back and forth, they come to an agreement. Jake will help Vieraen make some dope poisons, but he needs to test them on the drow rogue … and by test we mean stab viciously in the gut to see how the poison affects someone,. Seeing nothing wrong with this, Vieraen gets poked and takes a ludicrous amount of damage. After a fairly long session of knifey stabby, Vieraen leaves his new friend, both with a greater understanding of how poisons hurt and several minor stab wounds he heads up to one of the main magic shops in town to try and sell some things and get a fancy new dagger. He starts talking with the Halfling shop owner about the dagger he wants and what it would take to reduce the price before he pulls out one of the gems he’d picked up from the tunnels leading to the witches den on our last group assignment. Fun fact about the gems he got, they’re all really good at containing a specific type of magic and the one he was trying to sell was a fully charged fireball set to explode at the slightest nudge. Somehow not noticing the halfling’s wide eyed terror that this drow hooligan basically just walked into his shop with a live grenade, Vieraen mentions he’s got like 10 more in his bag if the owner would be willing to trade. Things escalate, the shop owner wants Vieraen out of his shop, Vieraen reeeeally wants that dagger though. Vieraen mentions he’s not leaving without that dagger as the shop owner uses the moment to cast a suggestion that Vieraen should leave. Under a compulsion to gtfo, Vieraen wanders outside and the shop owner locks up behind him. With that taking up most of his day, Vieraen heads back to the barracks to sleep everything off and wait for everyone to get back from whatever errand Core sent everyone on.
Seeing as the weird sylph didn’t eat anyone in their sleep, the tower crew heads back to the barracks for a quick breakfast and fill Vieraen in on what they found before everyone gets a message from Core about a bar fight nearby he needs everyone’s help with. Feeling the need to brawl, Eridol and Drackuss lead the charge and as they slam open the tavern doors they find absolutely nothing. No brawl, just a couple drunks from the night before passed out on the bar and Core getting playfully batted at by probably the most adorable cat anyone had ever seen. Core introduces his new friend as Whisky Whiskers, she’s a 2 ft tall munchkin cat person and also a monk, also she drunk Core under the table last night.  Honestly, it would have been more adorable if she wasn’t here to keep an eye on Eridol and his constant teetering on the edge of a mental breakdown. With introductions made, Eridol asks if this was the bar fight he needed help with and with the magic words said, Drackuss starts a one man brawl with the drunks at the bar, breaking a chair over one and piledriving one through a table that leaves most of the poor man’s blood on the outside. Everyone tries to stop the dragonborn juggernaut, but it’s our new friend Whisky who manages to stop the beatdown with a stunning strike that lasts long enough for everyone sober enough to act to restrain Drackuss while Eridol feverously heals the men. Drackuss’s holy medallion slides to the floor in several pieces but this goes unnoticed by everyone but Drackuss and as far as he’s concerned, the less people who know about his broken oath at the moment the better. Drackuss apologises, he’s just been so antsy for a proper fight recently and this got the best of him. Eridol is too busy healing the patrons to notice and everyone else didn’t really care that much. Drack gonna drack.
With nothing really to do for the next day and a half due to Core needing to do more research on the giant tower that apparated out of the earth and Emmi heading back to her ship several towns away for some me time, everyone else decides it’s time to hit the bath house to relax and mostly to clean Eridol because even without the gore from the past few battles still hanging off his armor making him smell like ham and sadness, he’s still not really been taking care of things. Most of the group grabs a communal bath to chat and everything while Drackuss gets a bath on his own away from the group. Whisky gets to know everyone and generally makes Eridol uncomfortable with all the invasions of his personal space, asking if he’s ok and just generally not letting him mope, the group starts drinking away the day and having as much fun as a group of hardened adventurers can do in a communal bath house. Drackuss sneaks out of the bath house and heads into one of the nearby forests, driving by an urge and whispers in his head he ends on coming across the camp of one of our previous allies, Olgum the hobgoblin fighter. They have a tense conversation while Drackuss draws his sword, proclaiming he’s been sent here to retrieve something Olgum doesn’t deserve anymore. A shield Olgum has but refuses to use properly. A shield used to solidify a connection to Bhaal, the god of murder. Drackuss needs it and he intends to take it one way or another. It is less a fight and more an execution as Drackuss murders his once friend and ally. With the final blow a new connection is made between Drackuss and the evil god he now serves. He takes the shield, a ring and some trinkets before setting the camp ablaze and returning to the bath house, the rest of the group none the wiser because we’ve been drinking together in the  bath for the past 4 or so hours. They all talk about plans for the next few days, Vieraen wants to head back to the magic shop to see if he can talk that dagger into his pants and Eridol mentions everyone should come to the pits tomorrow to see him fight, it’ll be great. This is definitely not a cry for help, don’t worry about it.The crew heads up to the fight pits to cheer for Eridol as he tries to let off some steam against a hill giant they had all fought as a group several weeks ago that had a bone to pick with the tiny gnome who burst his chest open last time. Bets are placed and buffs are sneakily applied before they fizzle out entirely when Eridol enters the ring. The fight starts with a bang of holy light from Eridol that sends the giant reeling. The show is fierce and comes to a head when the giant throws several boulders, most of which hit Eridol as he is feebly trying to close the distance to the giant with his tiny gnome sized legs. They trade blows for what seems like hours until both are left broken and bloody with just enough energy for one last clash. Eridol gets off a fantastic hit to the ogre’s side, mirroring the last killing blow he gave the giant in the group fight while the giant swung down with his literal tree trunk of a club, hitting eridol dead on. The crowd grows quiet as the dust settles and only one of the combatants is visible. The giant’s hand twitches and a gnome wriggles out from under the tree trunk. Bruised, bloodied and broken but somehow victorious. The crowd erupts in cheers as the fight pit’s healing field brings the giant back to consciousness. Both fighters bow to each other and the crowd, glad to have put on a show and bury the hatchet in each other as it were. The group comes down to Eridol’s prep room to see the gnome slumped against one of the walls, letting the rooms healing aura mend some of his shattered bones as the bruises set in and he starts the process of making sure everything heals properly. Congratulations are given and Eridol gives a shaky thumbs up in response before basically passing out. Thoroughly spent from the fight and mumbling that he’ll see everyone back home once the post fight shakes go away and Eridol gets to take care of what he thinks is a concussion.
Vieraen mentions that they should go back to the magic shop in the mean time and off they trot to the Magical emporium to find it still locked and no signs of life. Which is weird, this place never closes, especially not for days at a time. The group decides this is a mystery worth solving as the poke and prod the building for clues and they end up in one of the back alleys all looking for a secret entrance. Not wanting to cause a scene, Drackuss decides to disguise himself as Core, our government official patron so he can hand wave away any nosey villagers who notice us totally not criminals slinking out behind a shop full to the brim with magical artifacts. After several more failed attempts to break into the place either to look for clues or so Vieraen can steal his dagger, the group decides they should notify Core because this is worrying and obviously someone further up the chain should be told about this. Core arrives out the back of the shop to see the group and his doppelganger that was Drackuss as they go over everything, Core admits it is a bit weird that the shop is closed and if they have any other ideas to get in. Vieraen thinks for a second and pulls out the fireball gem that honestly started this whole mess and mentions if they throw it at the door it should get through and as a group they all decide that yes, this is the way forward and the gem is yeeted at the building. The gem containing a charged fireball. Surprising literally everyone, it explodes and sets some of the neighbouring fences on fire but with no damage to the shop, y’know because it’s a magic shop and has preventative measures for this. Someone mentions that they should get Eridol down here to help treat any of the mild injuries, Vieraen takes it upon himself to call the cleric over their necklaces. With non existent panic in his voice he shouts “Eridol, you should come quick, someone’s about to die”, which gets a genuinely panicked response from the still recovering cleric that he was on his way.Realising that Eridol would be expecting to see some kind of injury, Vieraen turns to Drackuss and asks the now evil paladin if he could “Stab me real bad” which is really all Drackuss needs to hear as he turns on the drow and Vieraen realizes sometime between the first and second hits this was maybe a mistake because Drackuss is actually trying to kill him. Chaos ensues as Vieraen attempts to get away from his would be executioner, Whisky jumps up and tries to stun the dragonborn as Core and Tornur trade throwing themselves in front of the drow rogue with arcane shields a plenty to absorb the hits. No one knows what is happening, Drackuss is on the war path and obviously willing to cut them all down to get to Vieraen. Someone gets on the necklaces to let Eridol know that Drackuss has gone insane which is another heaping spoonful of terror Eridol tries to keep down as he is running through the streets, still covered in gore from his exhibition match in the pits. While Core and Tornur protect Vieraen, Core yells for Whisky to get out and that she needs to find Eridol. Whisky nods and takes off as fast as her tiny feline legs can go. Now without one of their trump cards to slow drackuss down, Tornur comes up with a plan and conjures a thick cube of webbing to restrict the raging paladin and slow him down long enough for Core to cast haste on everyone and get a glimpse of the cursed shield in Drackuss’ possiession. Between the haste, Vieraen’s innate knowledge of the city and Drackuss’ restricted movements they all get away and start running back towards the fight pits to regroup and call on the city guards. With his prey getting away, Drackuss knows the opportunity is lost and starts heading back to the barracks to either funnel everyone into a killbox or to gather supplies and leave to survive another day.
Halfway across the city, Eridol is running as fast as he can towards the magic shop and where the fight should be taking place, hoping the panic he felt from Vieraen’s message mingling with his abject fear that has been there since Drackuss cut him down are hidden well enough by his pure need to protect his friends. Between being so exhausted and being nearly out of spells he almost misses Whisky as she clambers over a nearby roof. He does the only thing he can think off and pushes divine light into his shield to use as a beacon. The two meet up shortly before the remainder of the not evil friends turn up. All looking worse for wear, no one knows what’s going on. Eridol realizes that Drackuss would need to head back to the barracks to pick up supplies and that they would either be walking into a trap or an empty building. Without a second thought, Eridol asks that everyone stay safe, turns to Core and says “We will take care of this … I … I can take care of this” not trying to hide the panic and fear as he starts running towards the barracks, Core curses under his breath and turns to Whisky, Vieraen and Tornur and says he would understand if they don’t want to come before getting in touch with some guardsmen and running after Eridol. Of course nobody listens to either of them as Vieraen, Whisky and Tornur book it after their tiny guardian towards a very possible death.

1. a favourite character you have played
ok so it’s gurps discworld rather than dnd, but i love my goblin sculptor character ‘glint of the sun on the morning dewdrop’, she’s so subtly snarky and it’s really fun to play!
4. your current campaign
i’m currently in 3! the gurps discworld one i mentioned above, another game that my friend is dm-ing (in which i play another goblin character, a rogue called visha) and the main one i dm, where my players are working to uncover a conspiracy, with a Lot of ridiculous hi-jinks on the way
12. your in-game inside jokes/memes/catchphrases and where they came from
- noot, doot, and the rest of the -oot clan. when hastily coming up with npcs to add flavour to a tavern my players were visiting, i created noot and doot, two gnome twins who play one mandolin between them (it’s too big for them to play on their own). i tried to make them cockney, but on the way the accent morphed into new zealand. my players LOVED these kiwi gnome musicians, so now every gnome they encounter in the game has a name ending with -oot, and is some distant relative of noot and doot (i have to do a lot of new zealand accents now)
- ‘i forgot he was an old man’ ‘HIS NAME IS OLD MAN BALLERBY!’ was an exchange between our fighter and our rogue when they went to beat up an npc who’d cheated on his wife. it became an in-joke because throughout the adventure he had been consistently referred to as ‘old man ballerby’, so the fact that our fighter forgot that he was an old man, and only remembered while in the process of stabbing him with a rake, was pretty ridiculous
- ‘...but are there any plants?’ has become a recurring questions as our dragonborn druid is v. asocial and cares about plants over people, so now Every Time i describe a location i get asked this
- kick nage, the party’s donkey who in every respect seems like a normal donkey, but whenever you look at him you get the vague feeling that somehow he reminds you of nicholas cage
- it’s a Very ridiculous campaign that’s pretty much all jokes so i could go on forever, i’ll just add a few honourable mentions for pirate captain clay who had a peg arm and a hook for a foot, the fact that our awakened undead wizard is a skeleton called skel lington and we exclusively refer to his spell slots as ‘skel slots’, and ‘did you hear about the KNIFE GHOST??’
@headstonedeliveryservice, @vintageteacosplay and @theboffin27 if any of you remember more feel free to add them, there have been so many wild antics in our game i can’t remember them all
13. introduce your current party
- feyrel mossmere, a chaotic neutral half-elf rogue who used to be involved in ‘trading’ (read: smuggling) and has killed many people
- zoom lens, a true neutral human fighter. he’s a PI with a love for that well-known fantasy whiskey ‘jaq dann’yls’, and can best be summed up with the exchange ‘you go first, you’re the tank!’ ‘yes but i’m also canonically a coward!’
- skel lington, a neutral good awakened undead skeleton who just wants to spread socialism (his first act on waking from the dead was to overthrow a factory boss and establish a syndicalist workers’ collective)
- solanienne crick, a chaotic good half-elf bard who flirts with anything that moves (in true bard fashion) and is a very fancy boy with all the snazzy jewellery
- tarragon, a true neutral dragonborn druid who probably regrets leaving her life of hermitude in the woods to hang out with the bozos above
17. what are some house rules that your group has?
my one rule as a dm is please don’t insta-kill my npcs, i worked hard on them so at least interact with them a little bit first. we’re also Very lax on the actual rules so pretty much anything goes
oof this got long! thanks for the ask duck!

one of my favorite of our gay dnd traditions is that the dm of our group always sends this image to the scheduling channel as a 10 minute warning that our session is about to start

EuroTrip 2019 Part Fifteen: Welcome to Venice! 🇮🇹
I set the alarm for 7:30 A.M. so I could be up and ready for the train ride today. I got showered and ready to check out, but finding my platform was another adventure.
After going in the wrong entrance, I had to run to the other end of the train station and then down to platform 5 on the far corner. I had trouble pulling up my ticket but I got to my booth five, seat twelve window seat.
I arrived at 11:50 A.M. and quickly jumped into my friends car. Isabella is my friend who I am staying with, and I had a chance to meet her parents. Her family is so lovely, they cooked me lunch which was so good! We had some risotto to start, followed by salad and then some oysters for final course along with wine.
We left for the city at close to 3:06 P.M., and arrived a half hour later, but the drive was so cool. We had to go across this long bridge in order to get to Venice, since it’s all on an island.
My friend Alessandro (Ale for short) was already at the station waiting for me and Isabella, and right away we went to the Terrace he booked. As we walked through the narrow maze-like streets, crossing over small bridges above the rivers, I was in awe.
Our reservation was at 4 P.M., and we got there ten minutes late; we only had five minutes to look out. It was such a stunning view of the city, seeing so many old historic buildings.
We crossed the oldest bridge in Venice called “Rialto Bridge”, walked along the Main Street (which was so busy), and saw Saint Mark’s square. In Italian it is called “Piazza San Marco” square especially was so huge, and just how people could have done this architecture so many years ago was truly brilliant.
Around the corner was the old parliament building back when Venice had control over more area. Beside this was the old jail, where they would make the prisoners walk across this bridge which was almost like death row for America.
Isabella works as a translator and she had to go work at 6 P.M., so me and Ale went for a walk around some other cool parts of Venice. We talked about beer, since he is a huge beer fan, so we were comparing alcohols from Europe and North America.
We stopped at this small restaurant and ate gelato and talked about Ale’s job. He is a co-owner if his custom made Dungeons and Dragons dice. He started at 17 to play DND, and after this he and his friend decided to make their own dice. He’s now grown his brand across Europe, going to many Comic cons along the way. I gave him a small gift from Canada; a couple of magnets, to show my appreciation for him coming one hour to meet me.
It was so nice to just walk around, talk about different things and listen as he was teaching me about Venice and some of it’s historical places. Some of the cool spots we checked out was High Water Library; which is the oldest bookstore in Venice.
Another building that shocked me was the hospital, as it was a huge white marble building, which it didn’t look like a normal hospital by any means. Along the water you could see the graveyard for Venice, which of course was on an island too.
It was so different seeing boat taxis, police boats, ambulance boats, boat gas stations; it was like I was in another world. He wanted me to try this dessert called Fornarina Veneziana, which was a specialty dessert. It was short lived though as I got mugged by a seagull only two bites in, I felt like calling the police but I feel like my case wouldn’t have been taken seriously.
We went our separate ways just after 8 P.M., as I was taking the train back to my stop called Maerne di Martellago. When I got back to Isabella’s place, I gave her some gifts from Canada. I brought some maple syrup, and two fridge magnets to add to her collection. Her parents made tuna with peas, and it was amazing; I can’t leave here now because of the food. For dessert I had a glass of champagne, a pear and a kiwi (first time eating one).
I spent probably close to three hours talking to Isabella’s parents and herself about Canada, and exchanging photos of our travels. I learned a lot today like Venice is amazing, home cooked meals here are to die for, and I have amazing friends.
More to come...

Tell me more about Io!! Haven't heard much about them. Love their name btw Jupiter's moons are the coolest
yesss omg thank u for asking me this io is my baby child im gonna put under a cut cuz im gonna ramble
Tumblr media
io is a character i came up with to flesh out my nocturnal fey realm the evernight court! the royalty of the kingdom are a race of large fuzzy moth fey. io's design is predictably based on... an io moth!
Tumblr media
they're a wizard student from a fancy arcane academy for celestials and fey royalty. they especially like learning about illusion and enchantment magic. at the beginning of the story their personality is very serious and hardworking but they develop a sassy/outspoken side as their confidence grows. they are sweet and very polite most of the time, but they dont like slackers or jerks and will stand up for themselves and others if they think something is unfair or wrong. this gets them in trouble in high society sometimes because fey tend to be immoral and prideful! here's some little uniforms i drew for them.
Tumblr media
they also have a magic apprenticeship with my oc atlas at one point in the story which was really fun to me to write. here is a stupid comic summarizing their relationship:
Tumblr media
i have a soft spot for io because they're the first character i've ever... just written a story about for the joy of it? like, i don't roleplay them, they're not going to be part of my dnd campaign. i have an entire narrative arc for them planned which has never really been my forte. their story is about 70 pages rn but i have it all planned out in my (currently too tired to be creative) brain. im probably too shy to let anyone else read it lol. but yeah i basically wrote a whole high fantasy story about this little wizard baby. thank you for asking about my bug!!
