Chapter One

Your day started as any other. Coffee run for the staff. Scheduling meeting at 8:30 with D'Acy, Chewie and Phasma. Recordings review with DeeDee and Rae at 9:45am. There have been issues with two bands you were assigned to but you were also getting set up with a new one. Sand Scavengers were way behind schedule and Ochi has skipped his last two recording sessions. Ugh.

You always took it personally when stuff like this happened. You feared Phasma would see it as you not meeting your potential and letting Chewie down. He was the reason you were here. He saw your potential. You lived and breathed music, often spending way more than your allotted work hours at the studio to make sure everything was perfect.

You sulked into studio room #3 and place your headphones on. You called Ochi and of course had to leave a voicemail. Typical. You also called Bala of the Sand Scavengers to let them know of open studio time and to reiterate their contract obligations.

This was the part of your job you hated. The nit picky shit. You definitely didn’t get paid enough for the stress it gave you. Your therapist agreed as well but it was easier said than done to “just do your job description”. You could not think of that now, you got shit to do.

You were in your element. You were on the second to last recording when you heard the door open. You assumed it was Rae or Chewie so you ignored it. Then came an annoyed “Y/N?”

Fuck, it's Phasma. You turn slowly and take off your headphones. But she wasn’t alone; next to her were six burly men covered in tattoos. Oh this was the new band that was scheduled to start today. “Sorry, yes Phasma? Sorry I was working on that mix for The Sand Scavengers you requested”.

"This is the Knights of Ren or KOR, they will be one of our new contracts. Guys, this is Y/N, your new lead sound director. She will be your primary while you’re here" she says, giving you a sharp look.

You wave shyly at them as they introduce themselves to you. Cardo, Vic, Ushar, Trudgen and Kuruk. Your gaze landed on the man standing most to the left. He hadn’t introduced himself yet but he’s staring at you like you murdered his cat.

You gave him a soft look when Vic said “by the way, Y/N this is Kylo. Don’t mind him, he's an asshole”. Great, why is the hot one always the asshole? He grunts out a Hi. Oh well, at least the other five are personable. You smile and say “if you're up for it the studio is open, let's get to work.”

Kylo takes a deep breath in as he follows his mates into the studio space. He can do this. He can be around you without acting like a mess. He’s a professional damn it.

He has performed for thousands of people at a time. He is Kylo fucking Ren, lead guitarist and co-vocalist of the Grammy winning Knights of Ren. He can’t be and shouldn’t be undone by a pair of pretty eyes. He and his mates have skyrocketed up the charts since dropping their sophomore album two years ago, gaining themselves multiple awards. But after their Grammy, and a less than stellar breakup with First Order Records, they are here. At D’kar Studios, ready for a fresh start and more creative freedom.

There is something about you. He doesn’t know what. He can feel your bright creative energy radiating off you. It also does not help that you look so damn adorable and have curves to kill.

He tries to clear his head as he picks up the Blue Fender guitar. It's not his baby but it’ll do. He runs his tattooed fingers over the frets, feeling a sense of comfort. He looks over the other men fiddling with their instruments. It's always this impending feeling when they work on new stuff. But this feels different - a strange feeling of rightness.

He moves his hand across the strings and the amp lets out a riff. Ushar looks over to him and smirks. Vic gives Y/N a thumbs up. You set the headphones on that pretty little head of yours and flip on the record light.

I actually think Marinda and Massif died, since Palpatine tells the Knights of Ren what’s left of them will serve him after he force-lightning’d them. Only Ren, Vicrul, and Cardo are shown getting up; Marinda and Massif remain on the floor. Still, it’s ambiguous enough that if Soule or any other writer wanted to, they could reveal Marinda and/or Massif survived, and don’t die/leave until another time.

Anyhow, it recontextualizes Luke encountering the Knights of Ren for the first time on Elphrona, since I believe the Archivist would’ve mentioned that bit about their betrayal tipping the balance in favor of the Sith. He probably should’ve told Ben they were not to be trusted for that reason... And anyhow, now I’m imagining Vicrul and/or Cardo explaining to Kylo how they saved Vader from his dad’s ex.

Mmmm yes, that is an interesting point. I did see that they were still down in the panel, cause I was shocked they didn’t explicitly die, but I didn't put it together that that could be an indication of death, so good on you for catching that! It is odd to me though that those 2 wouldn’t survive the same shock the other 3 did? I feel all the KOR took a roughly equal beating before this. Maybe Massif cause he’s small, but Marinda seems odd. But that could indeed be the intention, even if it’s like. Not the clearest indication I’ve seen in a comic lmao. They’ve already lost 2 and suffered up until now so the “what’s left of you” fits either way imo

I think I will personally choose to believe they survived until/unless it’s fully confirmed otherwise though cause that increases the likelihood of more KOR content in the future lmao. As those two will eventually (presumably) perish and they still gotta recruit the other 4. And I want more KOR skskdks. When it’s ambiguous, I’m always gonna take the interpretation that leads to the most amount of potential tasty content 😆

Oooh also an interesting point! It does seem like Luke learned the entire story there, including the role the KOR played throughout (so flip-flopping included) so it is interesting that he doesn't mention any of that at a later date, like bringing it up to Ben. It seems the KOR had no interest in serving palpy long term and just helped him for their own sake this one time, but to someone like Luke, I don't think that would've mattered - dark side is dark side, helping palpy is helping palpy. So that's all really interesting

Voe feels like she was written by the type of person who blames Mace Windu for contributing to Anakin’s fall and even being jealous of him, and decided “You know what? Let’s make a character who’s explicitly that.” She deserved better.

This is turning into long post where I try to hash all my feelings out into paragraphs, so I'm putting part of the post under a cut.

I agree with your sentiment that Voe deserved better, and while I don't know Soule's thoughts on Windu, I don't think Voe is quite an analogue for a poorly-characterized Windu (though she definitely could've been framed better in the text, and I agree with you about this).

In my personal opinion, I think that Voe being jealous of Kylo (because I do believe that she was, Kylo being an unreliable narrator about it aside) shouldn't be eliminated, since her competitive drive and desire to be good enough is what instantly drew me to her as a character in the first place.

It looks like she joined the Jedi Order when she was roughly 9-12 years old, meaning that she wasn't raised with the Jedi Code from birth, and likely had to readjust from her pre-Jedi life and emotions. I feel like it's very human and relatable for her to struggle with these feelings, in addition to feeling like she has to measure up to what she believes are the standards of The Chosen One Who Defeated Darth Vader (TM) and his nephew, to whom the Force seemingly comes as easily as breathing.

What I do disagree with is that the framing of the comic making her jealousy seem like her primary character trait without anything obviously positive to balance it out, especially in comparison to Tai and Hennix.

Kylo definitely likes Tai, and so his flashback and introduction of Tai to Ren paints him in a positive light, showcasing his skill of reading people through the Force. He also gets an emotional scene with Kylo where he's this close to turning him back to the light, or at least getting him to really consider it.

Kylo seems neutral/positive on Hennix, showing his innate curiosity about viewing the Force as a puzzle. The comic doesn't cast him in a negative light either, barring his hotheadedness/concern about his friends in a fight leading to his doom.

This comic is only 5 issues long, and we don't get many scenes which just focus on Voe, Tai, and Hennix without the scene being taken up by Kylo. Consequently, this means that we don't get much explicit positive focus on Voe, comparatively to especially Tai (and to a lesser extent, Hennix). However, I do think that she still has positive attributes in the comic (however, I do wish they were made more explicit, since they aren't very obvious on a first/surface-level reading).

I personally think that Voe demonstrates excellent leadership qualities throughout, both taking initiative in the fight against Kylo based on what he confessed to the group (literally said he took down the temple and challenged that he could take the three of them in a fight*), and leading the charge against him after he beats the group and escapes the destroyed temple.

Also, despite her failing against Kylo in training, she could also handle all seven Knights of Ren at the same time in her and Tai's final confrontation with Kylo and the Knights. While the KoR are established to not be fantastic fighters, Voe is still a Padawan who's able to hold off 7 adult Force Sensitives simultaneously on her own. Clearly, she's not a shabby fighter.

Finally, I also think that (despite what Kylo may say) that their rivalry/dislike is somewhat mutual. While, in his telling of the story to Ren, he presents himself as aloof and unbothered by her efforts, the way his face is drawn as he walks away during their flashback and his final words to her ("why do you even want to live?") indicates some form of animosity. This is in addition to her being one of two purposeful and vengeful kills he makes through the comic's run (with her also, at the time, not actively trying to kill him in turn).

The point is, I wish we could've seen more positive depictions of Voe, and I think that was very needed given Star Wars' historic treatment of black characters (and especially black women) and how fandom has reacted to these characters merely existing in canon. However, I think that entirely eliminating her jealousy of Kylo takes away what makes her interesting as a character, and that it should've instead been balanced by having a more or less equal amount of scenes depicting Voe in a positive light.

*imo, Voe and Tai's interpretations on how to handle the situation are valid. Voe's is based on the quick elimination of a threat (which they'd seen a VERY similar iteration of play out in history with Vader). Tai's is valid on the basis of realizing Kylo had inner turmoil and trying to eliminate the threat based on diffusing the situation and realizing he felt distressed (also seen in recent history with Vader).

Hi! I love your idea of a Predator AU. Does Kylo use the force to hide that he's a human (kinda like Palpatine hid his ugly face)? What do Yautja think about force sensitivity? How do they communicate with Kylo? Are they "FO friendly"?

ahh, thank you ! i’m a sucker for the predator franchise.

kylo doesn’t use the force to hide that he’s human. he’s swathed in so many layers without a sliver of skin showing, so it masks his scent. at quick glance, they mistake him to be a yautja, albeit short ( note mahnde & shorty ) by their standards. they assume he is a young blood/unblooded runt who strayed away from a hunting pack. they’d quickly realize their mistake, but after having witnessed what he is capable of, they accept him & “adopt him”. yautja don’t typically ally themselves with humans, but there are instances of such bonds. ( i.e. scar & lex in AVP1 and big mama & caryn in the EU ).

while humans are considered “dangerous prey” for their trickiness, kylo’s abilities greatly impress them.  while it would be fun & challenging to make a hunt with kylo as prey, they realize it would be better to have him as an ally. xenomorph outbreaks could be handled with kylo’s aid as opposed to detonating everything when they lose. 

mm, the yautja DO have a written language, but their verbal communication is based primarily on clicks, grunts, growls, roars, etc. force-sensitive beings can detect emotional changes through the force. he can scrawl out something in the written language for more in-depth communication. the yautja noises probably do not differ from droid-speak & wookie noises anyhow, he’ll come to learn in time! 

from what we know, the FO is under human operation. they’d probably seek to challenge them, thus kylo becomes completely detached from the FO to return with the yautja. he’s free of snoke’s control & resides in a clan of his own for centuries as an adopted yautja.

Here is all the possible evidence I could find on the World Between Worlds theory. The images are compiled from both visual dictionaries for The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.

Beware that much of this is currently speculation since TROS was recently released and there’s still many unanswered questions and new concepts that need further explanation.

Before we begin, a keyword in this overall theory is “VERGENCE” which is a Force phenomenon that centers around a place, object, or an individual.

I want to start with the minor stuff first. Luke’s compass was first introduced in the game Star Wars Battlefront II which came out the month before The Last Jedi premiered. The Jedi compass is explained to be attuned to find specific hyperspatial points and is also what guided Luke to Ahch-To. Note that it is described to function similarly to the Sith Wayfinder that was introduced in TROS. So the Jedi Compass is the equivalent of the Sith Wayfinder. The Jedi Compass led to Ahch-To. The Sith Wayfinder led to Exegol. Image 2 of the compass is found in the TROS dictionary page “Wayfinders” to compare the compass to the sith wayfinders. I promise there’s a point that I’m leading to with this, but just keep in mind these two objects as I delve further on.

On the other hand, does anyone remember what happened to Luke’s compass? We saw it in The Last Jedi so it makes sense that it would appear in the TLJ visual dictionary. But I don’t remember seeing the compass at all in TROS, so why would it reappear in the TROS dictionary?

This is another minor detail, but I wanted to add the Ancient Starmap artifact from TLJ because in Star Wars the starmaps have often been used to find certain celestial bodies or specific objects. I’m just not sure how this would compare to using the compass/wayfinder or perhaps they can be used together.

Now, let’s get into the more solid evidence… We’ll start with Ahch-to…

I want to grab this part of the line where it says Luke lost track of time on the island because of neglect AND because of something about the island itself. I want to tie this is in with the concept of the Dyad. We don’t know much about it but we know that a dyad pair is a special kind of Force Bond that connects the two individuals across space and time. We have seen Rey and Ben connecting across space a la their Force Skype session and we’ve seen how they are able to physically transport objects across space itself through their dyad bond. But what about the TIME aspect of their connection? We’ve seen them connect across space, but we have yet to see them connect across time itself.

Let’s go back all the way to TFA when Rey touches the legacy saber for the first time and experiences a force vision of events.

There are several instances throughout this force vision in which Rey is in the presence of another person. First is when Rey sees Luke seemingly giving the star map to R2-D2. Second is when Kylo Ren stabs someone about to attack Rey. Third is when Rey sees her younger self screaming “no”. Fourth instance is when Rey runs into Kylo in the snowy forest.

Out of all of these instances, Kylo is the ONLY figure who addresses her presence. In the image above, the scene features him standing around with the KoR after killing the dude who was about to attack Rey. We see Kylo turned his face towards Rey. We see him start to walk over to her. Again, he is surrounded by the KoR and they’re all facing her general direction, but Kylo is the only person to address her presence. He has his saber ignited, but he makes no move to attack her. It’s the same thing at the end of the vision when Rey runs into him in the snowy forest bit. He pops from behind a tree and begins to make his way to her again, but he makes no move to strike her.

If we’re entertaining the time aspect of Rey & Ben’s dyad bond, then my theory is that we were seeing the time aspect of their connection occur in that Force vision from TFA. The Force was connecting Rey with Kylo when she touched the saber and, when Rey sees Kylo in the vision, he sees her too, regardless if he is from a past, present, or future event in that vision. And that’s why he asks Mitaka (while force choking him) “What girl?!” because he had been seeing a girl in a daydream… in a nightmare… in a vision. Similar to how the TFA novelization mentions how Rey had seen Kylo before in a daydream/nightmare.

So going back to Ahch-To, remember how Luke lost track of time because there was something about the island? I think it’s due to the island being a Vergence. Remember how Rey enters the cave and sees a vision of multiples of herself? How she touches the mirror and the figure in the mirror looks so much like Ben? My theory is the “endless versions of herself” are versions of her past, present, and future. I mean, obviously they can’t give each version different clothes or change hairstyles, but the idea is still there because remember the concept of time is funky on Ahch-to. So I see it as each Rey version exists for every second of her existence. Remember how Rey touched the mirror and, instead of revealing the figure as Ben like we all thought, we just saw her face? Let’s tie this to the TROS ending and our speculation of why Ben didn’t appear as a force ghost. So basically, it’s speculated that Ben didn’t show as a force ghost because he literally lives on in Rey after transferring his entire life force into her. It’s like the Light side version of Palpatine’s sith way of possession. Only instead of possessing Rey like Palpatine planned for himself, Ben becomes spiritually married to Rey, unifying them. From 1 soul in 2 bodies, it is now 1 soul in 1 body. And this is why Rey sees only herself in the mirror and not Ben even though the figure looks so much like him. The figure in the mirror disappears (like Ben’s body fading in TROS) and reveals only Rey (Rey is without Ben in TROS ending but he lives on in her). The mirror doesn’t reveal her parents but, in a way, it reveals her future (and I guess also her present since they’re likely already a dyad by TLJ). Or there’s possibly something more to this mirror cave than Rey and us saw… something to do with a vergence and a vergence scatter?

So we know the mirror cave is a VERGENCE of specifically the Dark side of the Force.

We know the World Between Worlds is also known as the “VERGENCE SCATTER”.

Meaning the WBW is literally a plane full of entrypoints into VERGENCES that are scattered throughout the galaxy, as we see in the above image with Ezra strolling past portals that lead to some vergences. If you don’t watch Star Wars Rebels - SPOILERS? - Present!Ezra ends up in the WBW and eventually finds a portal featuring Past!Ahsoka Tano dueling Past!Vader. Now, remember how I said a “vergence” is a Force phenomenon that centers around a place, object, or an individual? Anakin Skywalker is one of those individuals that are identified as a vergence. Hence why Ezra finds a portal featuring Anakin/Vader - because he is one of the many vergences scattered throughout the galaxy.

Guess what else is a vergence point as seen in Star Wars Rebels? The Jedi Temple on Lothal. Within the Lothal temple was a painting of the Mortis gods and it was this painting that acted as a portal to the World Between Worlds.

Just like Ahch-to’s mirror cave is a vergence, there is a place deep within Exegol that is also a vergence.

But as implied in the Ramahggon textbook, there are also hyperspatial waypoints that connect a path between Exegol to Ahch-To.

Now compare the textbook’s diagram to the galaxy map featured in the visual dictionaries:

I tried imitating the diagram of waypoints in the textbook, but Luke’s diagram shows how there are waypoints leading from Ahch-To to Exegol and vice versa. It’s likely that these “waypoints” are essentially “the Force as a twisted ribbon lining the perimeter of all reality” and this is possible through the Netherworld of Unbeing (see below image).

The Netherworld of Unbeing was first mentioned in the Revenge of the Sith film and is, according to Wookiepedia’s Disney Canon:

the place the souls of every being were thought to ascend to after their physical bodies died. The Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn went to this realm after he was killed by Darth Maul but, thanks to the help of the Force Priestesses, he managed to return to the physical universe as a Force spirit.

Now the underlined sentence kinda confuses me. So basically it means you can get to any point in the galaxy through the Netherworld??? Is that what it’s saying? I mean I guess that’s convenient for a dead person since they get a free ticket into the Netherworld. So from what I understand, the Netherworld is basically an airport for souls wanting to visit places as Force ghosts. Correct me if I’m wrong because I’m having trouble comprehending the underlined sentence. Otherwise, how would one use the Netherworld to traverse? Because if the Netherworld is used to traverse to anywhere then Rey might be able to use it. 

So we know Rey has the Exegol route saved to the navicomputer at least in Luke’s X-wing. We know she already has the Jedi texts/scripture all stored into R2-D2′s memory core. No need to worry about her finding her way around.

Anyway, I know that all of my thoughts are kinda scattered. But basically Rey and Ben are bound across space and time. Meaning not even death can keep them apart. Rey and Ben can touch each other across space. They can pass objects to each other across space. Now let’s see them touch each other across TIME.

Remember that we’ve established several vergence points in this post: Exegol (somewhere in its fissures), Ahch-To (the mirror cave specifically), and Lothal (the Jedi temple).

That means, like there was a portal in Lothal’s temple, there might be a portal into the WBW in Ahch-To’s mirror cave and Exegol’s fissures. What if the mirror in Ahch-To’s cave is that portal into the WBW? If so, all Rey has to do is figure out how to unlock its secret. It’s also possible that the mirror is not the portal, but then what is the Mirror specifically? The Star Wars Databank only gives a very vague description in that the Cave “tempts [Rey] with the promise of hidden knowledge” But as we saw in TLJ, we only got endless versions of Rey and a Ben-like figure in the mirror. So what was this knowledge it was supposed to reveal to Rey? That Ben and Rey are connected? I mean, it did show two dark figures morphing into one so that might refer to the Reylo dyad thing (1 soul in 2 bodies). But if Rey were to go return to the Cave for more knowledge, what else would she find in the mirror?

Also, she literally has all the equipment and information she needs - the Jedi compass, the Sith wayfinder, an ancient starmap (which might not be needed, but wouldn’t hurt to look at it), and diagrams showing how Exegol and Ahch-to connect. If she needs to find a McGuffin in order to unlock the portal into the WBW then she can use the Jedi compass and/or Sith Wayfinder. Heck, I don’t know if it’s possible to enter the Netherworld and just yank Ben outta there (in case he doesn’t actually live on within her), but if any living being can do it then Rey has the best chance. After all, she can basically transport her hubby over to her side across space just by touching hands and vice versa. if they can connect through space and time, they can connect from the mortal plane to the spiritual plane as well. So in case Ben is in the Netherworld, their dyad connection might be able to make it possible for Rey to reach the Netherworld and then use it to traverse to any point in the cosmos, or to the World Between Worlds where she can then proceed to save Ben from there. EDIT: Idk how I missed it when I was looking at the wiki but it says the WBW is also the Netherworld of Unbeing. Meaning Rey’s journey to Ben would be cut shorter.

Because, tying this all together, the WBW connects to Vergences… which are connected by hyperspatial points… which are connected by the path of the Netherworld… I know it sounds confusing and I’m having trouble articulating this theory but I hope that makes sense.

The only problem is Disney Lucasfilm. We don’t know if they actually planned this far ahead (the mess of this trilogy makes me doubt so), or they’re able to think this deep, or if they even want to pull on this thread. I just wanted to compile all my thoughts, evidence, speculation and theories regarding the WBW idea. If you have anything you’d like to add, please feel free to do so!

“I insist. You won’t be allowed in the back room with us, but we’ll pay for your bill. I know Thanisson is supposed to be here any moment, why don’t the two of you have dinner on us?” You prompted, enjoying the way the blush on his cheeks deepened at the thought.

“Thank you ma’am.” He said very softly, a thanks for both footing the bill, but also supporting him and this budding relationship that had begun to blossom over the course of the year.  

As if on cue, a car pulled up against the curb behind you. Kylo opened your door and offered you a steady hand to step out with. A valet boy stood behind him and struggled to hold an umbrella over his impressive height, the poor thing.

“Alright?” Kylo asked, making you smile. It was the first thing he had said in about three hours.

“We’re alright.” You nodded, turning slightly so Kylo could see that the princess was still sound asleep.

The other two, Maisy and Neve, were normally in charge of scouting out the streets and making sure things that needed to stay under the covers, stayed there. Speaking of which, as you and Kylo lead the pack through the restaurant lobby, you scan the place for your dear cousin Gwen. She hadn’t taken Rey’s death too hard, in fact she didn’t seem to spend much time mourning the girl at all. You spoke with her nearly every day and turned out that Gwen wasn’t interested in anything more than sex, which wasn’t very surprising, knowing her.

She had no interest in having children of her own, so she was ecstatic when you had announced your pregnancy. It took all of the pressure off of her, got the family off her back. Your daughter was the first of her generation within your combined families, the Serennos and the Rens, and it felt good to have an heir of sorts.

“Business.” Gwen waved it off, knowing there would be a time and place for all of that.

With your arms free, Kylo wrapped a hand around the curve of your hip, and you followed him deeper inside the restaurant as your room was finally ready. Gwen and your baby were right behind you, and it felt good to have the hustle and bustle of the restaurant get sealed away with the closing of the sound-proofed door.

The room was cozy as ever, a small intimate place set aside just for you. The candles were softly burning and there were a few select waiters with trays of champagne or wine, bottles of beer and cheeses to pass the time while everyone else arrived. You counted the chairs at the large circular table, which had been fitted with a white linen table cloth and was already set with all manner of fine china and silverware.  

“It’s going to be so strange, don’t you think?” Gwen asked the both of you, mostly thinking out loud.

“Every year it’s something different, but it’s always the same.” Kylo piped up, and you gave him an encouraging grin, glad to see that he was in the mood to play along the game of socialization, even if for a little while. He chewed his lip, not really knowing how to keep the conversation going, and finally settled on, “Did you get a haircut?”

“Just a trim, do you like it?” Gwen asked, reaching up a hand and running her fingers through her short pixie.

“Yes, very severe.” Kylo nodded, having decided that that was enough interactions for a while, and instead turned towards you and kissed your cheek, drifting down to the corner of your mouth.

 Not much longer after that, did the vibrant personality of everyone’s favorite Uncle burst through the door with a loud, “Where’s my niece?”

You retrieved your daughter from Gwen’s arms, and happily brought her over to the old man who as always, was dressed for the opera in a emerald green satin suit. It just so happened, that the dress you had chosen for your daughter to wear to the dinner, also happened to be a green satin, which made Uncle Lando grin with all his gold teeth when he saw.

“Someone woke up just in time to see you.” You showed him how the baby’s eyes were wide open and taking him in happily, and she smiled and laughed when he extended a shaky finger to lightly bop the tip of her nose.

“God damned what an angel. An absolute fuckin’ angel. Isn’t she the sweetest?” Uncle Lando nearly got misty eyed at the sight of his niece.  Everyone else arrived before eight o’clock, although some cut it a little close. Kylo kept checking his watch, making a mental note of just how close, when each head of the family came through the doors.  

Bob Fett came with gifts, expensive bottles of rare imported wine as an excuse for why he was nearly late.

“Mr. and Mrs. Ren, good to see you, it’s been some time hasn’t it?” Bob greeted you both jovially.

“Mr. Fett we really must get together more often, thank you for coming.” You smiled, passing the wine to the Knights to take care of.

“Damn I gotta tell you, you look almost better than you did before you got pregnant. Which that ain’t something a lot of women can say.” Bob had a bit of a habit of being a casually misogynistic bastard, and you almost entertained the thought of poisoning him for that comment, but then he burst into a wet coughing laughter and you knew the man would likely be dead within the next few years anyway, and so you smiled when he asked, “Where’s my seat?”

“Let’s go find it together shall we – drink?” You humored him as you gestured for a waiter to come over with a glass which he happily accepted.

 As he did every year, Mr. Tarkin arrived quietly, on time, and sat down with a curt nod and greeting to everyone. You didn’t fault him for it, and were in fact glad that he didn’t feel the need for unnecessary conversation.

Just when you thought there would be an unfortunate repeat of last year, the final guest for dinner made his way into the room, eliciting a round of mock applause and sarcastic cheers from those already seated at the table.

“The devil took one look at me and sent me back here to terrorize you jackasses a little longer.” Jabba joked right back, tucking the cloth napkin into the collar of his shirt before the bread and butter had even arrived.

“Thank fuck for that, where else would I get my best cigars?” Tarkin piped up from his end of the table.

“Alright alright shut the fuck up with the language there’s a baby in the fuckin’ room.” Uncle Lando spoke loudly over everyone, and even Kylo cracked a smile at that.

“She’s too little still, it’s fine.” You assured him quietly, before clearing your throat and standing up from your spot while Kylo held his daughter. “I’d like to make the toast this year, if I may.”

“Go right ahead honey.” Bob gave you permission you didn’t really need, but you bit back that comment for another day.

You raised your champagne glass, and everyone followed suit.

“It’s been a long year, for all of us. We’ve lost some members at our table,” You made a pointed look a where Rey would have sat if she were not murdered, and where Hux might have sat if he weren’t serving life in prison for said murder, “But we’ve gained some as well. It has been inspiring to see the way that despite these changes, we are all able to remain once again, intact. The world outside these walls is very different from the world you once knew, from the world our grandfathers and great-grandfathers knew.”

You look each and every one of them in the eye as you continue,

“But we are not our grandfathers. We uphold a legacy that still blazes strong, a legacy which we continue with traditions like these, meeting together year after year. Here’s to another prosperous year ahead.” You end your toast.

“To the future.” Kylo spoke, eliciting a chorus of To the future!

 And just like that, in the silence of everyone taking a sip of their drink, it was as if nothing had changed at all. There were fewer chairs at the table, yes. But there were chairs, and there was a table, and that spoke volumes.

Kylo looked at you, and you looked at him right back. You reached for his hand and gave it a squeeze, and though he didn’t smile, he didn’t have to. You could see the love in his eyes from a thousand miles away, could feel the adoration that imbued his very presence.

They said that the crime families were no more, that they had disappeared with the end of an era. But you knew better, you saw firsthand, you participated in it of your own volition.

Lucky for you, your man, and your family, no one could ever get rid of crime. Not really.

Would you break down Kylo Ren, please?

Boy can I anon! :) Apologies as well for the late reply, i wanted to take my time for this one.

essentially the TL/DR version is: this character has been neglected and abused his entire life, believing he didn't belong anywhere with anyone. only after realizing his parents and Rey actually care about him does he gain the courage to “do the right thing.” He’s then written unceremoniously out of existence after saving and kissing Rey, only being happy for 10 seconds in hid entire life. Aint that dandy! :)

Idk how short of an explanation you want, but i also decided to list all of his major character arcs within his lifetime, simply because i care about this character A LOT. I haven’t written anything like an essay in a while, so i really couldn’t help myself haha. This list is also chronological, but ill keep it under a read-more for easy scrolling.

PRE-TFA

Literally been toyed with and corrupted SINCE BEFORE BEING BORN

A happy toddler who loved his parents and "uncles"

His parents loved him very much but didn’t treat him as a priority. Leia tended to focus on her political career and Han couldn’t shake his old nomadic ways. As a result, Ben ended up very isolated.

As he grew stronger and keener to the isolation, his parents feared him and his emotions. Leia sent him away to Luke’s academy, despite Han not wanting Ben to go.

Made friends in the academy, but still a loner. All the while the voices in his head (Snoke/palpatine) are growing louder and louder

Luke forcibly saw into his mind, intent on ending ben’s life until changing his mind. Naturally this upset Ben, seeing as he figured what was left of his family that cared about him wanted him dead. He then collapsed the building, trapping Luke inside.

While deciding to run away, a storm (inferably caused by Snoke/Palpatine) struck fire to the Jedi Temple, killing the students inside. Ben attempted to save a few, but failed.

Ran into the arms of the First Order and the Knights of Ren, since snoke gaslit him into believing it was the only place he could be.

Trained under The KOR and Snoke as a dark side force warrior. Mainly used asa spiritual tool to snuff out Jedi rather than a political tool for the FO.

Tasked with finding Luke Skywalker, sets the beginning of TFA in motion.

TFA

Demonstrates his capability in dark side tendencies by torturing Poe for information

Chooses not to acknowledge Finn’s deflection

immediately gets distracted from his mission of finding bb8 once learning there is a girl involved with this situation.

remains primarily on the defense while subduing rey, carries her away manually to his ship for interrogation. its notable to mention that Han was completely unworried for rey as she was being taken; he knew rey was strong enough to resist and he knew his son’s shortcomings. 

willingly unmasks to rey while interrogating her; this is to show the audience that not only is he making himself more vulnerable and relatable to rey, but also to show that he’s completely opposite to what rey was expecting.

Their connection is formed as they push into each other’s minds

snoke tells him to kill his father in order to complete the training. ben loves his father dearly but genuinely believes he’s too far gone to do anything contradictory to snoke’s orders.

senses it when han arrives at Starkiller, and ignores him. referential material implied that kylo wanted to give han the chance to escape, but when Han sought him out then he reacted.

kills han, the deed “splitting him to the bone” 

survived, but gravely injured by Chewbacca’s bowcaster blast (shown previously blowing up 6 troopers at once). Sees Finn and Rey, becoming enraged, and follows them.

intercepts rey and finn in the forrest. angrily taunts them while beating his wounds. sends rey back into a tree in self-defense. demands to take the legacy saber, fighting with finn in the process. its notable that his fighting style while on the offensive is extremely akin to a berserker method; precise and accurate but brutal and excessive. ends up slashing finn and rendering him unconscious.

is in awe of rey’s ability to call the saber to her, fights her less-aggressively in order to corner her and offer her guidance. naturally she refuses, and taps into the force to overpower him and leave him bleeding on Starkiller as her and Finn rejoin the resistance.

TLJ

approaches snoke in his throneroom, visibly injured and emotional as a result of his fight with rey and the death of his father. snoke mocks his “weak” emotional state and calls him a “child in a mask.”

is hurt by snoke’s remark, an destroys his mask in a rage.

leads an arial attack on the Resistance ships, demonstrating his skills as a pilot. When he has an opportunity to blow up his mother’s ship, he doesn’t; he loves her far too much and cant physically bring himself to repeat the horror of killing Han. Unfortunately, one of the TIE pilots do instead. (later he is relieved to still feel his mother through the force.)

while in a medbay getting treatment for his scar, the force connects him with rey for the first time. both are surprised by this turn of events, and Kylo is more curious as to the logistics of the connection rather than being angry at the sudden appearance of his enemy.

connects with rey again as she is in the rain, still fascinated by how exactly the bond works. rey is still enraged by his presence as he casually mentions that Luke isnt the saintly figure she sees him as. Agrees with her as she angrily calls him a monster; instead of a taunt its actually a display of self-loathing. he then wipes his face after their connection ends, demonstrating that the bond they share permeates a physical space (as well as being a metaphor of the palpable tension between him and rey).

connects with rey again, this time with him in a state of partial undress. rey asks him if he could put a shirt on and he doesn't, despite the fact his shirt is on the desk a few feet away. the narrative purpose of this introduction is to show that rey is physically attracted to him and he knows it.

tells rey his story of Luke attempting to kill him, then tells her his nihilistic outlook of “letting the past die.” they disconnect, but rey ends up following his advice and explores the darker part of the island (a metaphor for HER darker side).

Later connects with rey again as she tearfully tells how alone she felt while in the cave attempting to find herself. Him, visibly touched by her story and the fact she trusts him enough to confess something so personal, tearfully tells her that she’s not alone. they then touch hands, doing so granting them visions of the supposed future. Luke angrily blasts apart the cabin, forcefully ending their connection.

Rey flies to him on the Supremacy, and he cuffs her to take her to snoke. (It’s important to mention that in the novel adaptation of the movie, it’s more of a playful and flirtatious banter between the two instead of a prisoner/hostage situation.) While on the elevator rey begs him to join her, as he counters and says that she’ll eventually join him instead.

While in snoke’s throne room, Kylo submissively kneels as snoke tortures rey for information. he occassionally looks up woefully at her, and eventually turns the saber on snoke after saying “he knows what he has to do.” He and rey team up to fight the Praetorian Guards and end up defeating them together.

Pleads with Rey to join him in leading the darkside as rey pleads with him to save the resistance fleet. Kylo tells her that he saw who her parents were and that she was nothing to them and had no place in that particular story. he then clumsily adds “but not to me” and begs her to join him again. the two then fight over the legacy saber, only to have it explode and knock them both back.

passed out from both the blast of the saber and Holdo blasting through the ship, kylo awakens to find rey gone. heartbroken and furious at her supposed betrayal of his trust, he violently declares himself the new Supreme Leader and orders an attack on Crait.

on Crait, he shows that not only is he deeply impulsive, but also an ultimately poor leader. he’s fine until noticing the millenium falcon, then finally loses it in a fury of rage and heartbreak. Luke skywalker understands the irrational state his nephew is in, and takes advantage of his irrationality to aid the resistance. his fight with luke was simply a distraction and taunt, resulting in a massive tactical failure.

kneels in defeat while clutching his father’s lucky dice, only to be connected with rey one more time. she distainfully “shuts the door” on him, and he recoils sadly as the dice disappear.

PRE-TROS

featured in supplimental material as a ruthless leader, hellbent on finding the resistance and eliminating threats to the First Order.

is shown to take plenty of self-assigned solo missions, implying that he doesnt truthfully care about the governmental aspect of being supreme leader.

TROS 

Begins the film on Mustafar, fighting a band of cultists dedicated to Darth Vader, taking the wayfinder they were protecting. in earlier drafts of the movie (as well as probable deleted scenes) Kylo then sees a character known as the Oracle on Mustafar, who cryptically tells him about Palpatine, Rey’s heritage, as well as his affection for rey that he attempts to deny.

he flies to Exogol, where he discovers that it was actually palpatine whos been manipulating him his entire life. threatens to kill palpatine but humors him as palpatine offers promises of utter domination if kylo could kill rey. naturally he has no intention of doing so.

Later connects with rey as she is training. its unclear if hes the one making the training droid react negatively to her or if hes simply observing her and attempting to catch her off-guard.

unites with the knights to rebuild his mask (for some reason).

informs the First Order officials he knows one of them is a spy (for some reason). 

connects with rey as she’s on pasaana, taunting her and stealing her necklace in order to track her location.

arrives to pasaana and witnesses rey trying to drag a ship down. holds back the ship in order to see if she’d tap into the dark side to bring it down, which she does.

follows rey to kijimi as she boards his ship and steals the dagger he has. tells her the “true history” of her parentage while also stating that he’d never lie to her. they fight (him on defensive) and she destroys his room. they meet again in person, him unmasking to show hes being sincere in proposing to her again; saying they’re a dyad and they belong together. she denies, again, and flees. 

meets her again on the Death Star, remarking that neither of them could return to the light since the pair of them are too far ingrained into the dark. He destroys the wayfinder she found, believing they’ll only get to Exogol together. they fight, again, with him on the defensive, again.

towards the end of their fight its clear that rey is exhausted, so he backs away and lowers his weapon. however, at this exact instance, Leia chooses to call out to him via the force. (it is unclear if she does this to distract him or if she does this because she knows she’s ill and wants to see him before she passes.) While he is distracted, rey grabs his saber and fatally stabs him. he collapses, feeling his mother’s death and the resignation that the woman hes in love with ended him. However, rey immediately regrets hurting him and uses the force to heal him. she confesses that had he been Ben rather than Kylo, she would’ve taken his hand. 

While gazing out to sea alone, Kylo hears the voice of his father. He turns, and it met with a vision of Han. Han tells him to “come home” and that the light within Ben was always there. Han caresses his cheek like he did in TFA. Ben, crying, starts to say something but is so overcome with emotion that all he can manage is “dad.” Han smiles and says “i know,” a callback to his line to Leia in ESB.  With the forgiveness of his father and the newfound strength and motivation, ben throws his saber into the ocean, effectively cementing his persona Kylo Ren officially dead.

as rey is in danger on Exogol, Ben flies an abandoned TIE (inferably left in the Death Star wreckage) there and sprints, armed with only a blaster, and launches himself into danger to help rey.

their bond connects as she’s about to pledge to the sith and as the knights of ren are about to kill him. he wordlessly assures her that he’s there for her and that its ok to reveal that shes part of a dyad. she agrees, passing along her saber to him through their bond. Ben kills the Knights as rey kills the sith guardians.

the pair of them reunite, but only for palpatine to sap their life force, made more powerful due to them being a dyad. once significantly weakened, Palpatine launches Ben into a pit. 

After defeating palpatine, rey dies. Ben manages to climb out of the pit and crawls over to rey, severely injured. he then embraces her lifeless body and cries for her, knowing then what he needs to do.

Ben heals rey with the force, bringing her back to life. Rey, elated to see him, cups his face as he cries and smiles feebly. she kisses him and caresses his face again, him smiling and chucking for the first time the entire series. At peace and healed by the redemptive power of being in love and having that person love him back in return.

he then immediately falls over dead and disappears into the force, thereby ruining all semblance of a skywalker legacy and redemption arc. FOR. SOME. REASON.

The Power to Cheat Death and “The Rise of Skywalker”

Yet another speculation and reflection post! Ok, so hear me out.

So, it has been confirmed that Palpatine is coming back by JJ in an interview, so here goes more spec based on leaks and all of this.

1) Palpatine is the threat. There have been many leaks that state that there will be a threat in TROS. This threat is what ultimately makes Kylo and Rey come back together. So, the nature of that threat is now clear : the supposed dead emperor is back, Palpatine, the “greatest evil” in the galaxy. We all know the famous line that Palpy gives Anakin, that there is a possibility to cheat death. It seems old Palpy knew what he was talking about!

2) Jakku and the Laboratory. We know that Palpatine has been researching the “sources of the dark side” in the unknown and uncharted regions with a Laboratory on Jakku. It is supposed that the Knights of Ren come back to Kylo Ren with the Red Troopers to tell him something. At this point, it’s not clear if they are going to side with him or not. But what is clear is that Palpatine had something calling him from the Beyond, and I believe that something is in the beyond, where the KOR have been, which will explain how Palpatine could cheat death. It has also been stated that Palpatine killed Padmé, who was in perfect health condition at the time she gave birth.

3) We also know that Luke had a compass that was Palpatine’s before...we actually see that compass in TLJ. It was in possession of Ben Solo and then we see it in Luke’s hut.

Which leads us...

4) Palpatine and Rey. We also know that Rey grew up on Jakku and I believe that there is a strong link now between the fact she grew up there and her Force powers. If Palpatine has the power to cheat death, has Palpatine also “created Rey” by influencing the Force again, as he did when manipulating the Force to create Anakin?

I think will understand why Rey is so damn strong with the Force and we might have a mighty plot twist here! JJ said there is more to Rey’s parentage than just the “nobody” parents. But her having nobody parents and her being the legacy of the dark side would be amazing narratively because it would make a perfect mirror of Kylo, her equal:

Kylo came from a legacy family, from the light  (”you cannot deny the truth that is your family”), but falls to the dark side.

Rey came from a nobody family but stems from the darkside, although she’s pure Light. 

Yin/Yang Symbolism is so strong there has to be something more to this. 

5) The Rise of Skywalker makes sense if you look at the three trilogies' narrative, especially if you consider the PT and the ST being mirrors.

Anakin Skywalker was created by Palpatine and manipulated to be a servant, falling to the dark side and losing the love of his life. Palpatine destroyed the Skywalker in Anakin, and made him Vader.

Kylo “Organa-Solo-Skywalker”, the heir of Anakin Skywalker, will need to rise in order for his family to heal the wound created by Palpatine, by making the biggest threat in the galaxy disappear for good.

In order for the Greek tragedy that was the PT to resolve itself, Kylo has to resolve the galaxy’s biggest problem and heal his whole family’s heritage. I believe that this can only be done if the Force is balanced, that is, with Rey’s help. I FORESEE ANOTHER JOIN ME SCENE!

6) What is the MacGuffin? It has been stated by Makingstarwars.net that there is a MacGuffin that our heroes are looking for.  Since there is a shot of the Death Star, maybe there is an object there that our heroes need to find in order to defeat Palpy? I believe that maybe this has to do with what the Oracle that has been leaked on Reddit has to do. Is has been leaked that Kylo will go and see a type of Spider Creature, an Oracle, on a swamp planet. Maybe the MacGuffin is not a weapon: maybe it is a power to cheat death? Because how can you defeat Palpatine if he was already dead but came back?

I could speculate Kylo is looking for the MacGuffin in these scenes:

7) It is therefore possible that Kylo and Rey go on a quest together to find answers and a power big enough to cheat death. It would be fucking insane if one of them were to die in the end....for Kylo to die in a sacrifice only to come back in an epilogue. (I’m sure @postedbygaslight will love this idea!). Since K. Kennedy has stated that the end is hopeful, I do NOT believe they will kill Kylo...completely! He may die in the end but come back because he’s learned the power to cheat death.

I’m thinking...an ending where Rey joins Kylo on Tatooine after everybody thinks he’s dead. This would truly be the “Rise of Skywalker”

OKAY BUT I WAS IN THE SHOWER AND I REALIZED HOW EPISODE NINE COULD’VE BEEN HELLA BETTER THAN IT WAS AND NOW I’M PISSED.

so, like, kylo should’ve been ‘redeemed’ much earlier in the movie, like, beginning of the first act early. also throw out the re.y pal.patine shit gimme re.y nobody i need that empowerment (but keep the dyad so it gives these two something to do bc palps stays as a secondary villain)

but then who’s the main villain, you say ?  hux. HE DESERVED TO BE THE BIG BAD THE ENTIRE TIME. he should’ve been behind-the-scenes formulating his rise to chancellor, even when kylo takes over as supreme leader for a time, and when kylo turns back to the light and becomes ben again, hux fills in the void of power left by that leave, and quickly turns the f.o. into a major powerhouse, even more than before.

let re.y and ben deal with palps bc dyad but you know who goes after hux ?  FINN, POE, AND ROSE. finn leads, because we got a taste of him and rose against hux, but i want a final battle between finn poe and rose, and hux and the kor. yes, you heard me right; the kor. they act as hux’s bodyguards now that kylo turned, and they do all of hux’s dirty work.

except i want a finn vs. hux showdown hand-to-hand combat style. i want it to mirror re.y and ben taking down palps, but that goes quicker than hux bc old man palps, and rey can sense finn in danger, and does the lightsaber pass to finn bc they have their own bond idk the details but then finn delivers the final blow to hux and it’s all great.

throw in a few big space battles and bam, great movie. also finnp.oe. needs more finnp.oe.

K so I said I might write a post about what I wanted from ep 9 and then I ended up doing it. So this is essentially a summary of the movie I would’ve made if someone gave me that ability. It’s not fully fleshed out, but I literally could not stop myself from typing it out once I starting piecing it together lmao

Even though this is my own creation, I still consider this a spoilery post SO WARNING FOR RISE OF SKYWALKER SPOILERS RIGHT HERE

I still think the best thing to do with ep 9 would be to centre it on the FO falling apart instead of ‘oh no daddy palps is back :o’. Truth be told, I’d rewrite TLJ too if I could, but I’m going to try to work within its constraints on this as well as keep some tros stuff intact for the sake of trying to work with it. So here’s the basic plot of what I would’ve liked to see:

Kylo undermining and removing authority from Hux while he focuses on Force stuff. He’s still looking for secrets and holocrons, but there’s no palpatine

Meanwhile the Resistance is working on building up their forces and helping the little people, plus trying to get info to take down the FO

The focus of the Resistance side is them trying to get the strength to face the FO and working together and all that good stuff. Focus more on the small acts of goodness in the galaxy that bring people together and end up with those they help joining the Resistance. That’s where they get their strength

Rey’s story would also be mostly about mastering the Force (and Leia still helps to train her) and the love and family she’s found among the Resistance. She’s still stupidly powerful though. I’d love to make her a Skywalker, but hell, it’d even work if she remained a nobody. TLJ was her crucible; she knows who she is now. She doesn’t need anyone else to tell or write her story for her

Also I really want her to go grey jedi. So maybe she realizes what Luke really meant: it was time for the jedi not truly to end, but to change. To embrace emotion without losing themselves to it. To realize that the only true way to achieve balance is not by staying light in order to defeat the dark, but instead learning to master both and keeping the balance within herself. That way, when the darkness is defeated, it won’t need to rise again: true balance. This would be her growth in the story, to learn how to embrace true balance in the Force

Also Finn’s story is still going to focus on the Stormtroopers (and Jannah can 100% still be there). So he finds Jannah and her team in Act 1, and then in Act 2 they unearth some secrets as to how Stormtroopers are brainwashed. Conditioning can’t be broken out of by will alone; Finn was Force sensitive. But something else happened with Jannah and her company. An idea is born: could they recreate that on a large scale and free them all? That’d be a huge blow to the FO and it would save all those troopers who never had a choice in what to be

Poe’s focus would still be on becoming the leader they need him to be, with lots of fun trio moments. So his wouldn’t actually change that much, but nothing about him being a drug dealer. I’m sure Zori could still be worked in but tbh I didn’t feel she added much to the plot

Rose is there a lot more too and comes along on all their adventures, happy to liberate anyone they can. She’s always been in it for the little people and that’s where she shines

Also Kylo is even more erratic, even more lost. He feels torn apart all over again. He’s not doing well as SL; he thought it would make things clearer, but it didn’t. He’s unstable and feral, focusing on all the wrong things and making bad choices because of it

Near the end of Act 1 of the movie, Hux betrays Kylo in a near deadly fashion, but Kylo manages to escape by the skin of his teeth

The Resistance gets word of a civil war within the FO. It;s Hux’s fleet (the red troopers + newer FO officers) vs Kylo’s fleet (mostly the older imperials who remember Vader + the KOR – you can keep Pryde here too if you want). This is their chance. They can take advantage of the chaos

While Kylo recovers from Hux’s attack, he starts having doubts again. Nothing has felt right since he became SL but what other choice does he have? He can’t go back, can he? He’s not supposed to want to. And even if he did, he’s too far gone to ever be welcomed, even by his own mother. So he continues fighting against Hux, more harried and haunted than ever

This situation degrades quickly. Both sides are getting hits in, but Hux is winning. Worse yet: it’s spilling over and doing collateral damage. Places controlled by the FO are being exploited, even worse atrocities being committed against them in this rapid arms race to superiority

Hell, maybe Hux’s fleet still has those planet-destroying canons like Palps’ fleet cause why not, everyone seems to think SW needs a superweapon in it. Anyway

There’d be more development on the heroes’ side as I detailed above here. Rey helping people and learning to be grey. Finn discovering the secrets of the Stormtrooper program. Poe becoming a leader. Rose comes with them on their journeys. Leia is heard rather than seen for the most part; she’s surviving this time around, but her presence is felt through her messages and dialogue snippets rather than physically being in the scenes. Some of the footage could be used, especially her hug with Rey, but I’d use much less of it

The Resistance knows they have to hurry. Do they have enough people? They have no idea, but they’re gonna try anyway. They have to. And you can still have Lando do basically the same thing; show up, be cool, then go get some more people

I’d like to do more with the KOR too, but tbh I’m not sure how other than just some scenes of them and Kylo doing Ren Stuff (whatever that may be). But there’d definitely be something

Near the end of Act 2, there’s a particularly brutal fight. I’d want Kylo and the KOR on the ground here, doing their shit. It feels kinda cheap to have him almost die again but tros also had 2 death fake outs for Kylo before the actual death so fuck it lmao. He thinks he’s going to win (maybe Hux is even there? Or maybe Phasma is revived? Or even just some fancy trooper akin to FN-2199 or something. Maybe it’s even Force-nullifying tech), but then the last minute he gets his shit wrecked

He’s dying. He reaches out with the Force, violently, affecting everyone. Rey hears it through the shattered bond. Finn even hears it, though faintly. It hits Leia hardest of all

Meanwhile, Kylo sees the ghost of Anakin instead of a vision of Han. Anakin, who knows better than anyone what it is to turn to the dark, but also what it is to turn away from it. The scene would still play out similarly, but not mirror the past scene with Han so much

(Look, I know a lot of people don’t like bendemption, but I think that redemption is always possible as long as it’s written well. And that applies to pretty much any character. TROS just needed more time to develop it, which I am attempting to do here by showing Kylo’s instability at the beginning)

Anakin manages to heal Kylo enough to bring him back from the brink of death, but not fully. I don’t think I want Kylo to toss away his lightsaber, but he still could. Regardless, there’s some sort of symbolic gesture to prove he’s changed his mind

A ship arrives: it’s the Resistance. Finn and Poe are cautious, but Rey doesn’t fear him. She confronts him about this sudden change of heart, but she can feel his sincerity. So she reassures Finn and Poe and they bring him along, though no one is really happy about it. They fix him up

With Kylo’s fleet all but destroyed, Hux is ready to take out the Resistance and everyone who sympathizes. Now perhaps we have a planet the trio had previously visited get destroyed. There’s still an ultimatum from the FO to obey or die. It’s a crackdown. A final act to ensure domination of the galaxy. Hell, you can even still call it the Final Order if you want to

The Resistance now strikes. Lando’s getting more back up, if he can, but they take who they’ve got. Kylo is there and there’s a lot of mistrust (could be played for humour too) but not enough time to get into it. They need to do this or too many will die. If he tries anything, Rey will strike him down and she tells him so. She’s done listening to his attempts to get under her skin

This Kylo is also definitely more Ben (I’m mixed on whether he should just go back to his old name or not so I’m keeping him Kylo for the sake of this summary). There’s guilt, though. A lot of it. You can see it on his face and in what he says. But helping to fix this will be a start. His crimes aren’t forgotten; he wants to make up for them however he can

Also Finnrey happens. They kiss before the fight this time and it’s very cute and romantic

So basically the end fight is Resistance fleet vs FO fleet. Poe is leading the charge. Meanwhile, Finn, Jannah, Rose and company sneak on to try to end FO conditioning. Rey and Kylo also sneak on; they’re going for Hux and the elite troops he uses as guards

Hux is going to have to have Force-nullifying tech of some sort (which I think is extremely underused in the SW universe as a whole btw). But he underestimates what Rey (powerful as fuck) and Kylo (Skywalker) are capable of

I’m not 100% sure how this fight plays out but I think I want Rey and Kylo to take out Hux’s elite troops without being able to use the Force. It’d be a fun struggle to watch and also make the fight much more visceral and difficult for them. But they both know how to fight, so they win

On the other side, Finn, Jannah, and Rose manage to do whatever to free the Stormtroopers from mind control (I’m not sure exactly how this would happen, but it’s star wars, it doesn’t need to make much sense). We get the first stage of a full trooper rebellion. They go after the officers immediately

Outside, Poe is struggling, just like in tros. They might lose this. Even if the landing party wins, there’s just too many of them. Cue Lando bringing a big fleet to help and giving us an epic space battle

Back inside: something exciting happens and it turns into a struggle between Hux’s tech and their combined Force powers. This is how I think it should go:

Kylo gives Rey his Force powers, which knocks him unconscious. Rey now has the power to break through on her own. It shouldn’t be possible. She sends out a concussive blast that knocks Hux back. The ideal here would be Hux being captured and taken in alive to be tried for war crimes, but I know that’s asking too much lmao so

If I can’t have definitively alive Hux: Rey approaches him but the ship makes a buckling noise; her Force powers compromised the structural integrity. Debris falls, obscuring Hux (and probably implying it killed him), and she knows it’s time to run. Kylo also comes to around this moment and follows

(And for real, I’m also okay with Hux dying for sure here, because at least he got to have his day first, but this is fantasy land lmao so I’m just not gonna have it happen as far as that goes)

Finn, Jannah, and Rose lead the stormtroopers onto transports as the ship starts falling apart. Rey and Kylo (and Hux, if I got my way) show up and make it in too. They take off and make it out just as the Finalizer crumples. Everyone lives! (Plus Hux is plausibly still alive even if I can’t have him definitely alive sdkfsdkl)

They call for the fleet to stop; the Stormtroopers on every destroyer are rising up, freed from their shackles. Shot of FO officers tied up and captured as the Stormtroopers, without their helmets, celebrate

A sidenote: I can’t decide whether I want Kylo to have lost his Force powers permanently by giving them to Rey or for him to get them back. I think losing them would be a good act of sacrificial penance, but at the same time, I’m not sure if that’s a thing so lmao. I’m open to possibilities here

End bit would still be a celebration. Rey and Finn and Poe still hug. The Stormtroopers are happy. We can still have that moment with Lando and Jannah; the implication of trying to find where every one of the troopers came from. The FO officers have been imprisoned. Everything is right in the galaxy again

Now there’s one more scene with Kylo: he stands in front of a door, looking pensive, squeezing and unsqueezing his hands into fists. The shot moves to his back and the door opens. You can’t see what’s inside but you hear: “Ben?” followed by a pause, and then a small, broken “Mom.”. He steps inside and starts to fall to his knees. End scene

Now, as a last scene, we could still do Rey having a funeral for Luke on Tatooine and keep the ending shot basically the same except Leia and her saber aren’t there because Leia is alive. Rey could still decide to be a Skywalker if she’s a nobody. The shot of two suns. The End.

ok... so i’m seeing again tomorrow so that i can really solidify how i feel about what happened but first i really want to make a post about how that could have gone.......so...much.......better... I need to get this all off my back so I can get all my negativity out of the way before seeing it again. So read with the knowledge I am very critical....

First off: Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley truly carried that film on their backs and that’s a hill I will die on. The redeemed Ben Solo and resurrection of Rey was great. Everything before and after was.......well... I have to see it again.

Second off:

Please stop saying J.J did what he could with what he had.

No. Especially with how they handled Kylo Ren/Rey/Finn. Rian Johnson left the last jedi so perfectly open ended and a perfect beginning for a conflicted, struggling supreme leader Kylo Ren. 

There was no need to bring the helmet back, and if there was it was such a tiny significant thing that I can’t even remember why they did. Lmao.

They didn’t give me a struggling Kylo Ren. They gave me TFA Kylo times ten. The line that was something like “I will find you and you will take my hand and I will bring you over to the darkside.” I felt I was literally listening to a villian I was meeting for the first time all over again. Like who is this man? I don’t know him....

They could have had literally one scene where Ben starts to realize the First Order is horrible and what they've been doing is horrible and show his struggle with the Light coming back to him. 

And then Hux & Pryde could have realized he was struggling and used it to their advantage.... maybe use it to somehow find out that Kylo killed Snoke alongside Rey. Banish Kylo from the First Order. SOMETHING. ANYTHING LITERALLY ANYTHING OTHER THAN: Hux voice: “I dont want you to win. I want Kylo Ren to lose.” HOLY SHIT THE DIALOGUE..... i was literally laughing in the theater. They fucked Hux over so bad.....the opportunity.....ugh.

Like Kylo could have been banished from the First Order in some angsty emotional confrontation with KOR, Hux & Pryde and THEN when he is banished and left completely alone THEN Palpatine starts to fuck with him.

Because he’s at his lowest. And alone. (Literally would be the reason to find Rey as well. Lead Palpatine to believe he’s going to kill Rey- On the other side Ask Rey to help him defeat the man who’s tortured him and his family.)

THEN MAKE THE PLOT TWIST THAT REY IS A PALPATINE MAYBE. AND ONLY MAYBE THEN. WHEN YOU THINK THEY ARE TOTALLY FINE TOGETHER AND READY TO FIGHT SIDE BY SIDE MAKE IT THAT KYLO IS LITERALLY FIGHTING SIDE BY SIDE WITH HIS FAMILY’S RIVAL BLOODLINE??????? THE ANGST. THE POTENTINAL ANGST.

The fact that they introduced palpatine into the film in the first three minutes literally blew me away. The fact his name was in the opening scroll made my stomach TURN. I immediately was like.............. oh no.... oh god.....

also...........................they did my girl Rey so dirty.

I can’t believe.

The fact she was palpatine blood did not bother me. That’s a theory i had along time ago and was kinda excited to see that. It’s that she took the Skywalker name. Could you imagine the emotional depth of a parallel back to TFA. 

“I’m Rey. Just... Rey.” 

But nope. She took the Skywalker name and looked out at Luke and Leia with NO BEN??????WHAT WAS THE POINT OF SHOWING LEIA FINALLY DISAPPEAR WHEN BEN PASSED AND NOT HAVE HIM BE NEXT TO HER AS A FG AT THE END. that literally broke my fucking heart. 

also.................................................”and I am the Jedi.” good god. good lord in heaven. why was the dialogue like this. i just....i .... 

On a good note, I loved that Leia was training Rey. I love that Rey was so much more powerful in the force. I loved that they showed she had been reading the Jedi Texts. I liked the serpent healing to introduce force healing.....But it could of just showed her healing Ben on the DS instead. Would have made his being stabbed way more emotional because we wouldn’t know yet if she could heal. Would have made Ben healing her at the end way more emotional because PARALLELS. 

Also, YOU SHOWED ME NOTHING OF FINN’S BACKSTORY. you were so close so many times too. Finn is force sensitive. Great. Love that. Could have maybe made Jannah force sensitive too? Would explain being pulled from the Stormtrooper brainwashing. And yes yes, i Get it. They did do that. “It’s....a feeling.” No. They could have made it so that there were literally Force sensitive children in the Stormtrooper training. Like maybe have Finn actually use the Force maybe just once other than looking really confused or really sad with “a feeling”. Which was basically all he did during this movie. 

On a good note, really enjoyed the trio banter but more so Poe and Finn. Such potential for a good love story there.... it was so wasted.... especially because they didnt even give my girl Rose more than a minute of screentime. 

As a whole, it felt very.....rushed. And a bit hollow.

Again, I’m going to see it again tomorrow with my family and maybe seeing my little sisters excitement will bring back a small spark of classic star wars happiness.

opinions on rise of skywalker?

After watching it twice, I’ll admit I actually did really enjoy it. I still stand by my initial thought that it feels like they shoved too much into one movie, that the pacing was wonky and characterization wasn’t consistent throughout the trilogy... but with the fiasco that was TLJ, that was pretty much inevitable. TROS was good! but it could’ve been great.

things I’m neutral about:

Palpatine & Rey being a Palpatine -- I mean... I guess it works. It’s the only thing that could be a successful shock factor at this point. I don’t want to think about Palpatine doing the nasty, though.

the dagger -- HOW DOES A DAGGER ALIGN WITH DEATH STAR WRECKAGE? WAS THE DEATH STAR DESIGNED TO BREAK APART LIKE THAT? HOWWJFKFLJDHG

things I disliked:

THE PACING. I already mentioned this and it’s obvious that they just had too much to wrap up, but some particular moments that stood out were: the whole first third of the movie especially, C-3PO regaining his memory (the audience is still mourning the fact that he doesn’t remember R2D2, then the film does a 180 and gives you whiplash with R2 immediately fixing the problem), Finn and Jannah are just suddenly there on the Death Star wreckage, etc.

HUX. Part of me was thrilled at the aspect of double agent Hux (especially the Kylux fan in me), but realistically, it didn’t fit his character at all. Yes, he hates Kylo and the humiliation Kylo put him through, but TFA Hux would never have dreamed of stooping low enough to help the Resistance, even if it meant take Kylo down a peg or two. I think Pryde’s character was completely unnecessary and Hux could have taken his role easily, and that would’ve pitted Kylo and Hux against each other even more. Hux would get to live his dream of leading the fleet (if just for a brief time) and it wouldn’t feel like they shoe-horned his character in last-minute because they couldn’t figure out what to do with him after the joke he was made into in TLJ.

POE. Poe’s characterization wasn’t as mangled as it was in TLJ, but it was still a mess, and Oscar has every right to be as tired/frustrated as he is. Was it really necessary for him to tell C-3PO to shut up at least five times? Yeah, 3PO won’t stop talking and one or two quips about it would’ve been fine, but his nonstop complaints felt excessive. Why did Finn and Rey have to be so hung-up on him being a spice runner? Han worked for the fucking mafia and he’s still a hero, so stop criminalizing Poe’s past and move on...... and also: it would’ve been nice to see Poe grieve a little for Leia.

ROSE. I don’t have much to say because there was hardly any of her in the movie. They did her and Kelly so dirty and my heart aches for her.

KYLO’S REDEMPTION. I mean... where do I start... yeah, the sap in me liked seeing Han again and the part where Kylo whimpered “dad” did take a stab at my heart... but that whole Han/Ben scene was literally taken straight from TFA all over again and it’s like... now it works because mommy called his name once and died for it? because Rey healed his boo-boo? again, I’ve dreamed of a Kylo redemption story as a Kylux fan hundreds of times, but I don’t think he actually deserves it. Half a movie is definitely not enough time to start trying to make up for what he’s done, not even close.

THE KISS. They spend 2.5 movies hating each other, and then suddenly Kylo does ONE big good deed and he’s boyfriend-worthy? Anyway.

THE OTHER KISS. The one-second, blink-or-you-miss-it lesbian kiss that they edited out for Singapore. :) Fuck you, Disney. Representation, my ass.

Do you think the TROS official trailer would give focus more on the relationship between Rey and Ben that suggest that they are more than enemies and it’s complicated OR are they just going to give more focus on the big war that is happening like good guys/Resistance vs bad guys/FO and hint Palpatine’s presence?

This question is tough. I actually just watched BOTH the TFA and TLJ full trailers to refresh my memory and try to better “predict” what we might get.

The TLJ trailer still fucking GETS ME! It was SUPER Rey and Kylo heavy with just a sprinkling of the other characters implying that those two would be driving the story (A plot). It was also NOT SUBTLE about the fact that Rey and Kylo would have a more “complicated relationship” than just trying to wail on each other with lightsabers. “I need someone to show me my place in all this” and then BAM:

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?

If I were to predict the TROS trailer SOLELY off of the TLJ trailer I would say that there is ZERO doubt that they will mainly showcase Rey and Kylo’s “unconventional” relationship and their HUGE importance in rounding out this final chapter in the saga with a sprinkling of the other characters/Sith troopers/maybe a glimpse of palps or some palps voice over.

BUT this is J.J. again, and the TFA trailer was WAY more misleading. It was practically begging you to think that Finn would be force sensitive which turned out very unfortunately in the fandom at large. Messing with expectations on that scale in a franchise like this is.....a bad idea.

It also showcased the Kylo with the KOR shot pretty prominently which....???? Now that we know the context of that in TFA was misleading as hell.

So maybe (HOPEFULLY) J.J. will avoid that in the trailer for TROS. He’s a bit of a wild card for me as far as predicting goes... he seems to like keeping people guessing/in the dark. Although, the way he chose to title the film leads me to believe he will be a bit more transparent this time around. 😏

Piecing Together A Puzzle

Like I said, “leaks” are a waste of time.  The real clues are in what Lucasfilm is releasing now.

What I’m about to post is speculation using what’s out there now through “official sources.”  I still do not know what the plot is or how everything will turn out.  But it might be considered spoilers/TMI for some fans so you’ve been warned.

1. Dark Ink released its slate of Force Friday artwork and if you scroll down you’ll see a lovely lithograph of Dark Rey and a new helmet less piece with Kylo.  Dark Rey we’ve seen before but check out Kylo’s surroundings...it’s all snowy.

Here’s the new First Order snow trooper.  Now why would we need a snow trooper unless Kylo leads the FO to attack this new snow planet Kijimi, as depicted in the new Dark Ink lithograph?

And check out the about-to-be-released Resistance Y-wing starfighter LEGO set featuring Zorri, Poe, a snow trooper, D-O, and some other droid.  This tells me that the Resistance comes to Kijimi to recruit Zorri or get some info from her and that’s when the First Order follows them there, Kylo and Ko. attack, and Zorri, Poe, and the droids make their getaway on the Y-wing.  My question is why isn’t Kylo wearing his helmet?  Does he lose it or it gets destroyed before this scene?

2. The released photo of the KOR from Empire is definitely the same scene where Kylo’s helmet gets rebuilt.  Same lighting, same smoky stuff in the air.  The hands that were rebuilding the helmet look similar to that of Babu, the pug-like droid builder.  Was it the same character, somehow forced by the KOR to rebuild Kylo’s helmet?  Or not Babu but the same “species?”  

3.  Babu definitely programmed red-eyed Murder!Threepio.

4.  The new Allegiance comic, the new Resistance Reborn book, the Spark of the Resistance book, and some of Kylo’s merchandise descriptions drop some very intriguing clues.  In Allegiance and in one of the books, Rey is experiencing something like a Force Brain Fog.  She can still access it and use it, but something seems to be “off.”  Like many Reylos, I suspect it’s because she has closed herself off to Kylo.  Remember, she downloaded his knowledge and skills and she was “awakened” in TFA once Kylo arrived on Jakku.  Meanwhile I’ve seen some Kylo merchandise with the description that he is tapping into the Dark Side for more power.  Many have wondered if this is where the Sith troopers and stuff comes from (a kiddie book confirmed Sith Troopers guard Kylo Ren).  Maybe this is what unleashes Palpatine.  But fans have also speculated that perhaps Kylo is also experiencing Force Brain Fog; in one scene of the Allegiance comic, Kylo is physically clutching someone’s throat instead of just using the Force.  It makes sense that Kylo, noticing his grip on the Force was diminished, would first turn to dark side trinkets and whatever else he can find to make up for it.  If that’s the case, I predict that it’s Kylo who realizes first he and Rey are “stuck” and they are stronger together than apart, no matter what either of them try to do.  I predict it will be Palpatine that puts them on the same page.  Plus, certain unaddressed feelings.  After all, Resistance Reborn features Leia figuring out Rey cared about Ben and he had “disappointed her.”

5.  Don’t worry too much about the product descriptions where Rey is “determined to defeat Kylo Ren” or Kylo is “determined to destroy Rey and the Resistance!”  I knew right from the first time I saw TLJ that TROS (IX) was going to open with them as far apart as could be, straight up enemies.  In April, Daisy said that at the beginning of TROS, Rey thinks Kylo is a long way off from redemption.

6.  I still think Bendemption and Reylo are the final destination in this film.  I don’t know aside from a team up against Palpatine the exact whys and hows, but I’m still pretty sure it’s going to happen.
