HCs with Kyoto kids No curses collage AU
warning! grammar issues
All Kyoto kids call Utahime Mom, everyone pronounces the address with a different intonation (last one was Noritoshi, he said it suddenly and quietly, which did not escape Yori's sensitive hearing)
In addition to movie nights, they all gather together in Nishimiya's room to play poker or mafia 'well, Mom, don't start, we're not going to be long at all, and this time we're not even planning to have a drunk!'
Kasumi finds it difficult to wake up in the morning when there is a lot of sun, so she chose a room with a window on the shadow side. Noritoshi's room is across the door of an empty room from her. I like to think that their dorm rooms are located exactly where the boundary between the male and female wings. Todo chose a corner back room with a sunny side because of the large windows on two walls. In the middle of the corridor next door are the rooms of Arata and Kokichi, both on the shadow side. Momo and Mai rooms, located at the end of the corridor opposite each other in light and shadow contrast, were also chosen because of the spacious windows and the importance of sunlight for Momo's plants All kyoto kids and besto friendo Yuuji chipped in for a full-scale cardboard stand with Takada for Todo's birthday. At first, Todo was very upset when the exclusive product on the site ran out in an instant and he so absurdly missed the opportunity to place an order (Todo growled, walked gloomier than a cloud while others silently watched the suffering of his soul for several days until his b-day)
Miwa and Mai have friends tattoos (this sun behind the cloud on Miwa's forearm, Mai has a cloud with rain in the same place). Nishimiya doesn't like idea of having a tattoo on her body, so Mai draws emoji with rainbow on her forearm with colored gel pens for photos every time)
Todo knows how to weave braids. Once he braided Kasumi's long hair into fishnet braids (popular in 2014). What if he had a free head for hairdressing experiments in the person of Yuki Tsukumo, I think it's funny enough
Arata loves hedgehogs, he throws videos with them to Nobara, even more often than some memes understandable only to him (Kugisaki with a satisfied smile pokes his finger at the phone screen in front of Megumi's face and says look, it's you when Yuuji is not around! But here when Yuuji is in your field of vision! Yuuji : Did someone call me?
Noritoshi likes to look at street cats. Miwa finds it endearing since she once had the opportunity to see Noritoshi sitting alone on a terrace in the backyard of their student dormitory, stroking an incredibly gentle cat on his lap. he looked relaxed. Miwa smiled. She had never seen him so serene and had simply left without daring to interrupt this comfortable moment for him
Mai failed in her attempt to upset Todo with the fact that Тakada-chan is a lesbian and nothing amorous shines for him with her, but he already knew this, and he is not in love with Тakada-chan, he just likes to watch her play out her positive image, inspiring her fans to believe in ourselves, whatever they were doing. Todo and Mai are the type of friends who often quarrel over absurd things, and not because of something serious
Todo wanted to bring Arata out on Takada's show (let him just read his favorite manga in peace), but this does not happen often, unless his best friend Yuuji is super busy, Mai spends time with girls, Kokichi and Noritoshi are reclusive together again and will never take part in it Girls get out somewhere together, it's always shopping malls, pavilions with vintage things, walking in parks on rented bicycles, not missing the opportunity to look into cozy coffee shops to warm up/cool off for seasonal drinks and desserts, trips to the ocean to wet feets in the water
Momo and Mai think Kokichi has Snow White's vibe, he has the same slightly curly dark hair and animals are also magnetized to him without fear, if this could be called a superpower Kokichi and Kasumi listen to true crime podcasts in the evenings in the shared kitchen and discuss them while cooking something for dinner on neighboring pans or discuss new ideas for a photo session with fake katana while Kokichi dyes Kasumi's hair and after a while there are still blue spots embedded in his skin on his hands
Kokichi calls Kasumi a Goddess with katana who does not believe in herself, but he believes in her, her caring hands and her bold ideas (Noritoshi shares this faith with him)
Next to Noritoshi, Kasumi no longer feels tension and fear as it was before. He turned out to be comfortable person and pleasantly cool as a fresh pillow before going to bed, so Kasumi, always warm as a wool sweater, often falls asleep on him, she likes the contrast of their body temperatures (for the first time she apologized for how awkward it was for her to doze off on his shoulder and slide her head into his lap in a dream, but Noritoshi did not express dissatisfaction and did not try to wake her up, being not against taking a nap himself). And she also likes to see his relaxed face in glasses when she wakes up
Noritoshi and Kokichi spend a lot of time together: they study, go on long walks, watch movies (they like to meticulously comment on scenes while watching and discuss what exactly the movie was shitty or vice versa good) and gamefilms (Noritoshi liked part 1 Last of us and Death stranding), they talk about everything and also silence does not cause discomfort (they are glad that Kasumi not only with them spending her free time)
When Noritoshi talks to Kasumi and sees her gaze fixed on nowhere, he calls her to once again indicate his presence and not scare her, asks if everything is okay, and, regardless of the answer, shortens the distance between them, lightly touches the top of her head with his long calloused fingers and soothingly strokes her head (he is not particularly strong in encouraging phrases), just in case, then clarifying whether the pressure of the palm was too strong. For the first time, she froze in the pose of a toy soldier and looked at him in surprise, and then smiled her little smile and lightly squeezed his wide palm so that he could understand with what force he did it, accompanying it with a brief comment 'Thank you and, uh, sorry, uh..It was like that, Kamo-kun'. Momo and Mai, watching this, were taken aback. Really? Noritoshi willingly tactilely interacts with another person? He did accidentally hit his head, or did the alien take control of his body? they pretended not to notice anything, although he was sure that no one saw this little gesture
At the evening gatherings of the girls, Momo does not get tired of theatrically sighing "how sad it is when the chicks grow up and fly away from the nest," and after that she firmly says if something happens, she is always ready to kick the ass of both guys if they somehow offend her dear friend Miwa Noritoshi makes little confessions to Kokichi about how thinks him fascinating. To which he hears once again a request to stop embarrassing him. They are both good at studying. And when Noritoshi asks about his personal methods of prolonging productivity, Kokichi insists that he join the introduction of rest into his daily routine, and not stay up until night without breaks, then he will no longer have to complain about headaches and poor sleep in the morning. Therefore, Kokichi and Kasumi go to Noritoshi to distract him from excessive study. Usually they look like impudent cats with honest eyes, carefully sit down on both sides next to him. 'Someone's smart head really needs a rest' gently whisper in ear. 'Hey, you're already asleep' low whisper in other ear. There is a lot of fatigue in Noritoshi's eyes, and, as always, he will grumble a little, sigh, slamming notebooks with notes and already pulling these two closer to him Kokichi appreciates Kasumi's willingness to keep up a conversation on a topic she doesn't really understand, or to start a monologue about how her day went, or on some topic of interest to her when he himself has exhausted his social battery and wants to be silent, calmly resting his chin on her shoulder or on the top of her head. He listens and listens to what she says, and then, after recharging, discusses with her everything he has heard before, and vice versa. No one is offended if one is silent and the other says
Noritoshi shared with Kasumi and Kokichi his indignation over his father's family, his bold dream to check out of the family registry an problems with emotions (I just adore my hc where Nori was adopted by Chosoyuki, his last name hasn't changed, but Noritoshi doesn't care, it's important that he has already stopped all interaction with his father) In the morning, Noritoshi and Kasumi practice yoga. Kasumi once tried to stand on her head, Noritoshi held her legs, repeating that he was nearby, holding her and she would not fall. And also Kas does not know how to relax in savasana, she fidgets, turns, puffs, sighs, does not know where to put her hands comfortably, it seems a little more and steam will come out of her ears like from a kettle 'You're very lively for a corpse pose. Don't suffer' Noritoshi spreads his arms invitingly to the sides. He knows that in a strong embrace Kasumi will be able to completely relax
Kokichi is trying to quit smoking because he smoke too much due to stress and the frequent purchase of cigarettes hits his wallet, and Nori doesn't like tobacco-flavored kisses. Kas also smoke, but only in two cases: sometimes she can smoke for company or when she is so nervous Kasumi understands aurally english and can speak it fluently. Thanks to foreign visitors in Kusakabe's bar, where she works, the conversational skill are not lost. When she talks to Mai and Momo, they can switch from japanese to english in kombini, which attracts the attention of other people. Also Kas helps Noritoshi with practice speaking, and when she sees that he is tired (Nori can't always recognize own fatigue), she habitually moves closer and murmured various english songs in his ear. The quality time spent with her calms his restless head before the next TOEIC exam. Todo underestimated how physically strong Kokichi turned out to be with his tall and skinny body
Todo: Why did they leave and didn't call us? May: Because they have a date, you idiot! Momo: Mai, we're actually going to go too Arata* holds out her phone to others to see* Guys look: [Miwa posted a photo in stories for friends] 'Sakura is so impossibly beautiful! I took my recluses out for a walk'
Mai and Momo have cottagecore picnic dates and go to the farm to pick strawberries and some pumpkins
Miwa has a good sense of style, in fact she doesn't have many clothes, all the outfits that she assemble look original and fresh every time, as if she really has a big wardrobe, she willingly helps Kokichi and Noritoshi assemble outfits from their existing clothes (they all have similar tastes). Arata turns to her for advice when she doesn't want to bother her big sister for nothing
Nishimiya plays the cello and she and Noritoshi play joint improvisations of cello and piano when there is time and mood
Mai sings well, just likes to be harmful at every opportunity when she is asked to sing something Noritoshi sneezes softly like a kitten (I've only heard twice in my life that people could sneeze like that, hehe it's an awesome sound)
Arata got Todo into dating sim games on behalf of a fem character Todo: Toxic bastard and you pretended to be a decent guy too! Arata: Are you already going through episode X? Nishimiya and Mai *look questioningly at Todo and look at Arata* Todo*nods and turns to the character of the game*: How many such bastards around you! But nothing, he won't do anything to us! Arata*shrugs*: I didn't know that dating sim would affect him so much
Kokichi and Arata play video games and read manga. Kokichi also helps to solve problems with his infinitely clogged internal phone memory
Kokichi in this house is the main one for fixing problems with electricity and gadgets Mai and Kokichi spend money on arcade machines and collectible capsule toys, which they then carefully store 'I see how you want to get this Mechamaru, you're just incinerating with your eyes, though your eyes aren't lasers huh. Here, take it for yourself, I already have one'
Noritoshi and Mai share an interest in surfing for them it is always a competition and a fun pastime
Mai carefully preserves about the storage of gifts (she has this in common with Kokichi), although she always grumbles "who needs these trinkets, except for the growing layers of dust on the shelves?!" Between the pages of the book lives herbarium of small bouquets that Nishimiya gave her, in a beautifully decorated cardboard box with sweets from Kas, she keeps their joint pictures from photo booths in shopping malls, shells found on the shore during their journey to the ocean, and in a cloth bag a pendant with a silver revolver from her sister (she unwraps and she holds the pendant in her hand for a long time when she feels, how terribly she misses Maki. 'Fool' she mutters without malice, squeezing the jewelry in fist harder. Momo in such episodes considers it best to leave her alone so that Mai does not hide and openly experienced this moment of sadness)
Nishimiya is a fan of american vintage clothes and hippie style jewelry, I can clearly imagine how as a child she dreamed of opening her own cute jewelry store

[ID: a digital drawing of the students in Jujutsu High in their baseball uniforms. the art is outlined in shades of blue and purple. Nobara and Maki are on the left and they are seen full body. Nobara has her right arm around Maki’s shoulders and is making a peace sign with her left hand. her eyes are closed and she is smiling. Maki has her left hand wrapped around Nobara’s waist. she is holding a baseball bat over her right shoulder and is smiling. they are standing pretty close to each other. on the right are two boxes that kind of look like stamps. Megumi and Yuuji are in the first one, seen full body. Megumi is has a baseball glove on his hand and his black divine dog is at his feet. he looks grumpy. Yuuji is to his right, squatting like he’s catching. he is smiling. Momo and Mai are in the second box which is below the first. they are seen from the knees and up. they are both facing the right but looking forward. Momo is on the left and is holding her broom like a bat. Mai is to her right and is holding an actual baseball bat. they both have impassive faces. at the bottom right are eight more stamp-like boxes, much smaller than the other two. they each have one of the team members in them and are all close-ups. Panda is in the first one on the top row, looking to the right. Todo is in the second, getting hit in the face with a baseball. Miwa is in the third and hers isn’t as zoomed in as the others. she is looking at the ball flying in the distance. Utahime is in the fourth one, one hand shielding her eyes from the sun and scowling. Inumaki is in the first one on the bottom row. he is holding up a peace sign. Kamo is in the next, his head completely bandaged. Mechamaru is in the third, but he is in his machine pitching form. Gojo is in the final one. his hands are cupped over his mouth. he is smiling widely and calling out to someone. the background is like a checkerboard but all white. the top right is just white in the background, though. /End ID.]

Opinions on the Todo & Mai Friendship Fannon?
I say Fannon, because in cannon they don’t really seems like buddies.
Tumblr media
They definitely aren’t friends in canon, but I would like to add two characters can have an interesting dynamic without liking each other. As a whole the Kyoto Kids seem to be one, big, dysfunctional friendgroup. It’s a running gag that no one in the group likes Todo (they all go “nice pitch” when he gets hit by the ball), and Todo himself is the one who is the most likely to leave the group and go off on his own. He got angry at the Kyoto Kids plotting with their teachers to kill Yuji, but not so much because of the deceit involved as he did not want to be told what to do by the entire group and wanted to make up his mind for himself.
Todo and Mai clearly do interact. They show up together to greet the Tokyo Kids. There’s an omake where Todo drags Mai to go meet Tall-Idol Takada Chan. Mai’s current stress in the databook is listed as “Todo.” Their canon relationship seems to be that of two people who do not really like each other, but hang out a lot anyway because they’re part of the same friend group.
Which I like because there are more complex relationships with the Kyoto Kids, they’re not just all a big friend group who all like each other. There’s these litte details in the way they all interact with each other. Momo takes her role as a senpai for both Mai, and Miwa pretty seriously and tends to dote on them. They also mention that because there are so few kids, Momo acts more like a friend than a senpai at times despite the big age difference. Kamo tends to be viewed as the “No-Fun Guy”. He gest angry at Todo for being a bad exmaple to the others and not taking his position as senpai seriously. He’s constantly lecturing people on proprietry. He’s the one trying the hardest to be an adult. He sympathizes with Mai’s troubles as a member of the Zenin clan, but Mai seems to just consider him a nag.
Kokichi is the outsider of the group and tends to be treated that way too because everyone’s kind of insensitive about the fact that he’s a robot, but he still loves everyone’s weird attempts to reach out to him and more than anything else wants to be a part of the group. He also looks down on his friends and sees a lot of them as weak because they’re not as strong as him, something that personally hurts Miwa, and Momo is angry at him for even after his death. He is the closest to Miwa because he responds to her attempts to reach out to him, but also the one who hurts her the most. Mai has a bad attitude and does not seem to get along with anyone, but at the same time she hangs out with Miwa and Miwa like they are a tight close knit group of friends she just can’t be honest about her feelings for them and how much she appreciates the friendship. She also thinks all the boys are stinky.
To bring that to Aoi and Mai they don’t really have to be friends to have a relationship to each other, because they are a part of the same messy complicated friend group.   As characters though, they provide an interesting contrast. Mai is a follower, she is weak, she gets swept up in things and tends to just go along with them and keep her head down to try to live in peace instead of struggling like Maki. She also has an incredibly low self image of herself and basically assigns herself the role of weaker twin and sees herself as inferior. She’s also someone who would be perfectly content being treated like a servant and doing chores because if it meant she wouldn’t have to be a sorcerer.
Aoi finds a normal life boring and went out of his way to become a sorcerer after he was recruited by Yuki, he also tends to hate people who are like Mai too codependent, and too negative. He isntantly decided that Megumi was boring because he had no good taste for life. He gets angry when people expect him to do things as a part of the group, he’s also the only other character that Kokichi respected and believed was strong enough to survive in the Shibuya arc. He’s the only Kyoto student that Gojo mentions as having potential to be one of the strongest next generation.
You can see why there’d be a lot of tension between them, they represent opposites, Mai hates stubborn people like her sister and Aoi, Aoi hates weak willed people and go with the flow people like Mai. At the same time though, Todo is still mr. “power of friendship” guy whereas Mai is someone who values her connection to Maki more than anything else in the world. They’re both characters who want to connect to other people. They are both support type characters, Todo fights the strongest when he’s working with someone else. Todo’s also really good at mentoring and fostering growth with other people. So they are characters who don’t like each other, but they still fit into the group dynamic of the Kyoto Kids as a whole and they are both very relationship oriented people.
Also, they’re just hilarious when you put them together. Aoi annoys the crap out of Mai, and for his part Aoi either doesn’t notice, or doesn’t care about Mai’s dislike of him. If anything my favorite version of their relationship is Aoi is so self confident he’s completely oblivious to the fact that Mai doesn’t like him and is just putting up with him when they’re hanging out alone together, and thinks they’re best friends.

Momo: Favorite horror movie? Mai: The Grudge. Noritoshi: Ring. Muta: The Host. Todo: High School Musical. After watching it, I spent all my middle school years terrified that the entire school would start singing something and I’d be the only one who didn’t know the lyrics.

kyoto kids don't often gather in full for some kind of movie on a projector in the living room (but they love such cozy evenings):
wrapped in plaids on the floor, mai usually puts momo's head on her lap. her cool hands remove scrunchies and gently massage the scalp, and then comb the long strands with a wooden comb. mai snorts with satisfaction when she hears momo's sarcastic comments about what is happening on the screen
noritoshi is sitting relaxed on the sofa. glasses have slipped down on the tip of his nose. he is dozing, pressed on both sides, like a source of heat, favored by impudent cats. kasumi sleeps with nose buried in his collarbone, her arms wrapped around his waist like a koala hugging bamboo, and kokichi has shaggy head on his shoulder, fingers lazily playing with scrunchie on noritoshi's wrist. noritoshi doesn't mind, he even likes to feel the weight of their bodies on him (i like this ot3 rareship)
arata in a large yellow hoodie comfortably sitting with his feet in a corner armchair. he periodically glanced at the vibrating phone and sighed (his sister sent him a lot of voice messages, but he doesn't have headphones with him to listen them)
todo was sitting in a bag chair with a moisturizing mask on his face, it was unusual to see him so calm and relaxed, and he managed to eat cucumber circles with chamomile tea before anyone sees (i have hc that todo believed in the relaxing power of spa evenings. he knows about face masks that takada-chan uses, and drinks chamomile tea of the same brand (at one of the fan-meetings, takada-chan slowly dictated names of cosmetics so that girls standing in front of todo had time to write them down) i find it funny)

[ID: a series of nine gifs of the Kyoto Students in the Jujutsu Kaisen Volume Zero movie. the first gif is of Kamo Noritoshi jumping off a building and shooting some arrows infused with cursed energy. the second is of Miwa Kasumi creating her domain and then cutting them with her sword.
the third one is of Miwa sheathing her sword as two curses break through the wall to her right. a blast of fire comes from behind her and kills them. the fourth gif starts with a close-up of Mechamaru, his hand in front of half of his face. then the camera zooms out and three curses fly above his head.
the fifth gif is of Zen’in Mai holding her gun out as if she just shot it, then pulling it back by her head, moving her other hand to her hip and smiling. the sixth gif is a close-up of Nishimiya Momo. she’s in the air, the wind ruffling her hair and clothes. she has a hand to her left ear and is talking.
the seventh gif is of Todo Aoi. it begins with a back shot of him landing on the ground, as if he just jumped. then, it zooms in close to his face as he smiles widely and kind of menacingly. the eight gif is of Todo running. the ninth gif begins with a shot of Kamo, Miwa, and Mechamaru. Kamo has a hand to his right ear, turns to the other two and tells them something. Miwa and Mecharmu run off. then it’s a shot of the back of Mai’s head - she’s watching as Kamo runs after them. /End ID.]

Noritoshi goes to see how his mother is doing (he doesn't interact with her or any person she seems to have welcome in her new life. he's just. in the background) and she noticed him. Then asks him if they know each other. Because he looks (a bit) familiar. He answers negatively. Then she has to leave because her child his calling her. A child who gets to call her mom. Not mother. A child at who she looks with bliss. Not defeat.
Noritoshi leaves.

just having little thoughts… but i truly believe that todo and momo boosted mai’s confidence. like the memory of maki and mai when maki decided she was going to become a sorcerer may have been skewed by maki’s perspective of mai being someone she had to save at all costs, but mai’s personality used to be so small and in childhood she was so scared and timid… like her first appearance in the anime/manga w her whole ‘aww yr classmate is dead ehe hehe 😈😘’ and then pulling a gun on nobara for calling her ugly.., like that is todo momo influence….

One thing I think a lot of people within the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom don’t take into account with Mai is that she’s actually pretty smart.
To be fair though, lots of the display of Mai’s intellects is from side materials or side notes. For example, her high score of 9 out of 10 in terms of academic is definitely impressive. Sure, academics don’t always mean intelligence, but her score is the same level as both Kamo and Mechamaru. Who are know for their strategic minds and intelligence.
In addition, there’s a side story in the second Jujutsu Kaisen’s light novel that focuses on Mai— I’m not sure if you have read it yet, but I highly recommend it— and within that chapter we see her strategic mind in action.
Within the chapter, Mai was able to come up with a clever plan with both Miwa and Momo to not only trapped the curse spirit, but defeated it with all their combined effort and technique.
Mai using her curse technique to create a cover to hide a window at the end of a hallway. So when Mai bait the curse to that hallway, Mai signaled Momo to use her Wind Curse Technique to blow the curse off balance. Then with the combined effort of Momo’s wind and Mai’s bullets, they were about to push it towards Miwa’s simple domain to do the finishing blow. All of this was Mai’s strategic thinking in action.
It definitely does help that the Kyoto students were able to work together well. Can’t really say the same if Mai worked with the Tokyo students.
I’ll see if I can find the link for that chapter, it’s not a full translation, but you still get most of the story.
Basically, I feel like a lot of people are sleeping on this fact about Mai. Then again, nearly everyone in the fandom sleep about Mai in general.
Ah, right. This is supposed to be an ask. Well then, my question shall be: Will you incorporate more of this aspect of Mai in your future Jujutsu Kaisen fanfics?
Thank you so much for your Mai Analysis anon, I think it's genuinely really well-written and insightful. Also, being a shonen meathead I do like to think of the way characters use their abilities and strategies creatively in fights.
To add another comment in this post, I think in general the Kyoto students are driven by necessity to be more creative and incorporate strategy in their fights because they are not individual powerhouses. There's Todo for instance, who is not only the most intelligent character in those rankings, but a better teacher than Gojo Satoru and it's all of his knowledge and strategies and his cooperation with others that makes him such a talented sorcerer not his ability to clap and change places with other people.
It's also interesting that the students that Gojo Satoru raises, tend to reflect the way he fights. The thing about Gojo is I do agree his intelligent and strategic, but he only really has one strategy and that's beat up his opponent with his overpowered curse technique. He has shown to be capable of quick thinking like when he adapts his domain expansion to only open for a second, in a situation where they had him cornered and he could not use its full power. However, he number one can't work with other people whatsoever, and number two usually just smashes his opponents with superior strength when he's forced into a corner. Gojo loses not because Kenjaku is stronger, but because Kenjaku used a whole bunch of allies effectively, isolated him, and then took him by surprise.
Gojo's students also fight in a very similiar way to Gojo. More or less, they are what you call "Beat Sticks." If they were a DND party, they would all be warriors with no clerics, no spellcasters, and no bards. It's all physical strength and no buffs or support. If anything, in the fight between Maki and Mai, Mai had the strategic advantage against her sister, and her plan should have worked Maki was just strong enough that she could catch a bullet with her bare hand. Mai also defeated Nobara the same way, waiting for Nobara to exhaust herself and taking her completly by surprise,it's cowardly yeah but I think in a real life combat situation all that matters is who lives to the end of the fight. In fact, Nobara had her face exploded for the same reason that Mai won the fight against her, she got cocky and made a really simple strategic slip.
Maki fights with weapons and beating up her opponent with superior strength. In fact for all the Maki and Toji parallels, Maki is way less of a tactical fighter than Toji, she doesn't conserve her strength, outwit her opponents, or use pragmatism like Toji using a gun. Yuji has demonstrated a lot of good instinct when it comes to martial arts and physical fighting, but when he was up against Higuruma he practically had no idea how to outwit him and only managed to survive because Higuruma had a crisis of conscience and spared him.
There are students that fight strategically, so far it's mostly Yuta and Megumi and they are characters who are also much better than most of the Tokyo Kids at coordinating with fellow sorcerers like the Kyoto students rather than just fighting on their own and overpowering their opponent. For example in Yuta's fight, he makes a bunch of snap decisions that let him win and protect innocent people, while also being outnumbered and outgunned.
So like to bring this back to Mai, yes I plan to try to use her power in a more creative way in fights in future fanfics. In fact I do like writing out fights and confrontations and trying to make a realistic argument on who if these two characters were to fight would win. The only reason Mai didn't really get a chance to show off her strategic abilities is kind of the whole point of Mai in that fic is that she's not strong, and she doesn't really get into fights that often and will avoid them whenever possible. However, I tried to at least incorporate the fact that Mai is not only clever but a good actress. The whole final twist in the epilogue chapter, was something I had planned from the beginning as a strategy Mai would use to even fool the adult who is right in front of her. Mai also, pretty much figures out the mystery of who the culprit in town is on her own just by her wits and paying attention to what Nobara and Maki did not and also slipped away from them to confront her alone. I think while Maki is a fighting genius, Mai is actually a lot more like a detective in that she's good at solving puzzles and coming up with creative solutions. She would also do anything in normal circusmtances to avoid a fight, unless she's given a reason to struggle and fight she can't back down from. And struggle she does in those situations.
However, post Zenin Massacre Arc I am super interested in putting Mai into the culling games, and sort of forcing her out of her comfort zone to make her into a character that has to fight, because she is in the culling games to help Maki. At that time I really want to show her using team strategies with characters like Mimiko and Nanako (because all the Tokyo Kids think she's dead), and being the brains to Maki's brawn, and also maybe being able to use her matter creation ability a little bit more freely so she can have more flexibility with how she uses her technique solve problems. These are things I hope to do, however the culling game parts of my fanfics aren't really super well plotted out yet, so all I can say is look forward to it and also we'll get there when we get there.

kamo noritoshi (the student) has enough personal family problems to go into already but its surreal that yuuji technically is a very distant relative to him
