my secret confession is i think a lot of current art in comics is pretty but sometimes way too glossy and lifeless... it kinda feels like a sticker sheet where they just swap out generic stock poses that they have on hand for that character rather than the art being reflective of the actual story and moment the character is currently in

#does this make sense #like its generic 'heres this character with a hand on their hip. this is their idle position. their arms are stiffly raised now to talk. #theyre back to their idle pose (2nd version). heres them suddenly springing to life (aka arms over head as they fly abruptly and stiffly). #they land the exact same way everytime regardless of where theyre at (fist clenched by their sides)' #like it feels like different poses you can alternate between in a dress up game rather than being present in the story #wheres the expressions! the body language! the moment! the way they differently carry themselves! #i know im biased for older styles but :// idk it sometimes feels lifeless in a sense #but im not an artist so. cant complain too much. gorgeous art but it's like you can see where capitalism and demand to be sellable #kills any creative input or fun twist that makes that artist or that arc remarkable and rememberable #but whatever.... 70s and 80s comics save me..... #ransom note

#the boy and the heron #not tagging wish 'cause i'm being a little acidic #this isn't to be negative in the slightest--I really respect both films--but it's interesting to see how visceral boy+H gets with its story #what evils have to be rejected and what they represent--and how characters and the world suffer from those evils--as well as how the whole #'rejecting' part goes. in terms of animation powerhouses discussing their legacies - disney and miyazaki both - I find it interesting that #one makes a pretty safe and nostalgic movie about imagination and dreams; the other is a long trudge through the land of the dead. #b+h is a hard watch - and a look at the legacy of a man questioning his whole purpose in the world - after his cultural touchstones #have long passed by. Mahito needs to understand his grief to keep living--but if he drowns in it he'll just continue the cannibalistic and #violent world of his granduncle. how the hell do you make art when the trauma of your entire life has colored it forever? How can anyone? #maybe after a while... it's time to detonate that damn tower and keep living. #this is to say #if you have enough money to make whatever you want #Make It Fucking Count

So the final character turns out to be based on Ryugen, but it feels kinda weird how there is also one based on Zangetsu and they aren't brothers

Or what if plot reveals they are brothers and he was actually adopted or stollen

I CAN'T BELIEVE HE'S ACTUALLY RYUUGEN?! I made a joke about it when Toten got revealed but I didn't actually expect... (I'm counting it as a win though, which means I guessed three out of sixteen! ...given how wacky some of these got, I'm actually pretty proud of that.)

he seems very sweet though! I hope he and his secret hamsters are very happy together. 🐹
