God help us – for art is long and life is short! (Faust: First Part, written by Johann Wolfgang Goethe and published in 1808)

hiiii heres the first part of what will (hopefully!!!) be a series of western women's fashion from 1800 to today. obviously, not all women looked like this or dressed like this. in fact, most didn't - these are largely going to be looks worn by women of a higher socioeconomic class, at least until maybe the 1880s. this is for a few reasons, mostly being, uh... availability of cc. i'd love to MAKE some historical cc but my laptop won't run blender. another reason is that the fashion of the upper classes is typically better recorded than that of lower classes, especially before the advent and popularization of photography. i'm just rambling now.

anyway! the first part: 1800-1809. we see the opulence of the georgians cling onto fashion in bows, feathers, and jewels. we also see the rise of waistlines to the iconic empire waist, and the influences of neoclassical aesthetics in fashion. hairstyles in particular were emulating those of the ancient greeks, also pulling a bit from the stuarts. this decade also allows me to share one of my favorite tidbits of fashion history: the coiffure à la titus! for a short time in the 1790s through the 1810s, some women (french women especially) took to cutting their hair short and choppy. the reasons range from inspiration taken from a popular play at the time, to symbolizing solidarity with women executed via guillotine. some men at the time thought that having short hair was actually hazardous to women's health, so while the titus cut wasn't the norm, it was widespread enough to cause quite a storm!

you'll notice that 1806 is missing. that's because the dress i used, uh... completely messed up the arms and i did not notice until i was making the gif. if you wanna see it, it'll be under the cut.

Kirby reference The Midnight Soirée chapter 1 & 2

This is Kirby in full! Usually, I would do a full rotation, but I'm too lazy. Unless the other side profile differs greatly, I will keep doing only one side profile for every reference I post.

Fluff 1-5

A warning for minor spoilers for The Midnight Soirée.

Colour Pallete:

Although saturated, Kirby's palette is colourful and uses all colours on the colour wheel except for purple and orange (well, the blue in his eyes is slightly purple and brown is desaturated orange). Kirby is a colourful character; I want to convey that in their colour palette. I had to use grey for the trousers to naturalise the other colours, but I'm pretty happy with it even though it took me a long time to find the right colours to use. Kirby's colour palette is more suited for the natural life on earth than Fluff's reference (which you can see in the preview I posted), as Fluff's colours are much more saturated and benefiting of a supernatural creature whose domain is in the void.

The boots and gloves are red to match each other, but also because I am a sucker for Kirby's iconic red shoe look, I wanted to keep that fun detail in his human form. The gloves/gauntlets were a gift from Meta Knight gift before they embarked on their journey. They are red because Meta Knight used Duke Dedede's favourite colour. As are the boots Bandana Dee gave to match the gloves as Meta Knight and Bandana Dee coordinated their gifts. Duke Dedede chose a blue cloak to represent both Meta Knight and Bandana Dee as they are associated with the colour blue (dark blue for Meta Knight and sky blue for Bandana Dee)

Instead, like Meta Knight did by stamping his sigil on Kirby's gloves, Duke Dedede gave Kirby a belt buckle with his emblem. It is subtler than his original plan of emblazing his logo on the back of Kirby's cape. As cool as it would have been, as Kirby laments in Chapter 2 of MS - it would have been too eye-catching and drawn highwaymen to Kirby, who needs to keep a low cover if they want to explore the continent of Popstar without being bothered every turn.

Kirby's clothes are dirty, and doing upkeep on his clothes is difficult while travelling. But they are not super filthy, as Kirby has not travelled that far from Sunset Mountain Range. They are a week away on horseback from the infamous southern mountains of the country of Dreamland. Although Kirby has been taking the scenic route stopping by all the sights and staying at every village to get to know the world beyond the mountain he grew up in. (Well, he was born at the base and only started living at the summit with Dedede, Bandana and Meta after a good while of being friends)

Hood up! Kirby and * more information about the cape. The rabbit fur is missing some strands because of Kirby's rough travelling style and habit of getting into fights. The fur comes from the rabbits' Sunset Mountain is famous for as Dedede's dukedom handles livestock and its savoury cuisine. (They know how to throw a good potluck). It is customary in Southern Dreamland to sew a travelling gift with this rabbit fur for luck in one's travels. Duke Dedede personally caught the rabbit, skinned it and made a parting dinner with it to wish Kirby safe travels, as the gift would be moot if he did not prepare the rabbit himself.

You can see a subtle star design on Kirby's back with the hood up. The whole cloak represents Kirby's name and connection to the stars. Kirby's full name is Kirby From the Stars/de las Estrellas (the latter is a surname Meta Knight gifted Kirby to protect them from human society and from the Nightly Folk). A nickname that transformed from 'Kirby Godess gifted' to 'Kirby Godess's gift', 'Kirby Starbright' all the way to' child descended from the star' as Kirby's actions proceeded him. Dedede commissioned this cape in Kirby's honour to call back to their first meeting and the amount of effort and work it took for them to become friends/family. Kirby's greatest treasures are the three gifts from his friends (cloak, gloves and boots).

Dirtless! Kirby. This is after Kirby landed in Underhill. Fluff repaired his cape and polished his shoes and gloves. Other than that, there is not much to say. The patch to Kirby's trousers is left intact because Fluff thought it was a part of the outfit and not a literal patch-up job Kirby did because he tore his pants in the first week of travelling.

**As you can see, without the cloak, Kirby lacks the colour blue (aside from his eyes). The green sweater contrasts the red of the boots and gloves, and the yellow contrasts all the blue shades. As for why the tunic is split colour - it is because originally, the tunic was entirely yellow. But that didn't fit Kirby, plus I wanted Kirby to have pink on him as he wouldn't have pink hair as a human (yet). Since the cloak covers the tunic, it doesn't attract too much attention, and even then, a lot of peasant clothing had fun designs. As long as something doesn't look too fancy, Kirby won't be mistaken as a noble or servant of a noble.

I lovingly call this tunic the Strawberry Custard Tunic. Strawberry because pink for Kirby and the Custard for the yellow dye in relation to Keeby, with the original tunic colour being a reference to them. The tunic's design is inspired by the Hylian tunic from BOTW/TOTK. Which was probably obvious with the leather chest plate. The tassels bring out Kirby's playful side and help spread the pink/yellow across the whole tunic. One side is longer than the other simply to enhance the design a bit, as an even-cut hem is not Kirby's style. Even if I gave Kirby an even-hem, it would slit at the sides for more spatial movement. Kirby's earthen look isn't all that exciting, so the little details go a long way, like the sleeves of the outer tunic, which are flowy and stitched to create folds.

As Kirby bemoans, his tunic isn't very pretty or festive, so they were so tempted to wear the dresses in the closet in chapter one. It is a shame I never got to draw/write Kirby with a dress. Well, maybe next time. :)

And finally, at the end of chapter 1, Kirby with the blue rose behind his ear. A blue rose symbolises mystery or attaining the impossible. They are notorious for their 'love at first sight' meaning, and as Fluff gave Kirby one thornless rose, this meaning is amplified as gifting one rose means 'you are the one/you are still the one' and a thornless one also means 'love at first sight'. So it's 'love at first sight' message is doubled. It also adds Fluff's blues to Kirby's palette and nicely matches Kirby's blue cloak.

Chapter 2

Chapter 2 sees two major differences to Kirby. His hair change, and the sash Fluff gives them. The sash was neither a gift nor a deal because Fluff's sash tied Kirby to Fluff. This way, Fluff knew where Kirby was throughout the whole night. Once Kirby discarded the sash later in the fic, Fluff lost his ability to locate Kirby.

Fluff changed Kirby's hair pink as a part of a mini deal. Interestingly enough, the pink used for Kirby's hair is not Fluff's brand of pink but the same pink as Kirby's split tunic. It also fits them more than the blonde hair did. Though I am sure many people in their world would disagree with this statement. (The pink also fits the blue rose better. Though that might be my bias showing)

I made Kirby blonde because it's the brightest colour next to pink, as I could not make Kirby pink-haired from the start. Pink hair on a human would be really suspicious. If Kirby had been born with pink hair despite being fully human, he would have been tossed into the woods, never to be seen again. Either mauled to death, succumbing to starvation/dehydration or taken in by one of the elusive fae this story is centred around. Now, Fae! Kirby would be a very interesting character to write about. But that is not for this story...

Kirby's dirty blonde hair (or pudding blonde, as I like to call it) makes the blue of his cape stand out more. If I had chosen brown hair, which is closer to pink and easier to make a gradient out of, it would have blended too much with the fur on the cloak. This worked back when Kirby's cloak was more on the green/cyan side. But that was before I made Kirby's cape and Fluff's tights match. (Though Kirby's hair does appear brown in low light/the dark)

I can also geek out about Kirby's eye colour with this close-up. Kirby's eyes have violet shading in this AU to bring in the colour purple to their palette and accentuate the blues. But also to differentiate this Kirby from canon Kirby as I paint puffball Kirby and Gijnka Kirby with green-blue eyes. Kirby's undertunic woollen sweater is already green, so it would have been too much green. Plus, I couldn't have it contrast with the pinks Kirby uses/is going to use. Blue/violet is a nice compromise as it is analogous to purple.

And now the last touch - the flower crown Fluff weaved into Kirby's hair as Kirby took a nap. They are just a bunch of pink and white roses. Nothing sinister about it :) (I got a little lazy with them, but you get the gist)

Okay, but seriously. The meaning of white and pink roses is peculiar. On their own white roses represent loyalty, purity, and innocence. It is a popular wedding flower and can also mean: eternal love and a brand new start. Pink Roses mean grace and sweetness. Other interpretations include; gentleness, appreciation, joy, thankfulness, and elegance. Pink and white roses are used in anniversaries, graduations or as wedding gifts.

Combined, the Blue rose, pink and white roses mean: "Love at first sight, pure/gentle and graceful/elegant person - I attained the impossible/mystery, and I am thankful for this joy/new beginning you bestowed upon me."

And so, in the end, Fluff's magenta and blue shades have been added to Kirby's colour palette. More of Kirby's references follow after Fluff's turn with his early chapters appearances.

Fuuu! Estoy en uno de los estados más preciosos de México, que es Quintana Roo mientras uso su traje representativo con el nombre de "La chiclera". Éste vestido no tiene mucha historia pero sí su significado en los patrones dentro del vestido. El patrón del caracol, representa la riqueza marina que tiene y el primer instrumento de comunicación de los mayas, Los pinos representan la variedad forestal y su naturaleza y las estrellas representan el lucero de la mañana que recalca que los antiguos Mayas se les conocía como increíbles astrónomos. Quintana Roo es famoso por tener más de 2500 Cenotes y 407 cuevas subacuáticas, algunas están disponibles para nadar mientras otras estan escondidas dentro de la Selva Maya. Yo me encuentro en una de sus más icónicas, El Cenote Calavera y podemos nadar en él, vamos?

Fuuu! I am at Mexico's prettiest Quintana Roo's iconic places wearing the State's representative dress with the name of "La Chiclera". the dress doesn't have a big story but the patterns tell about the representation of it. The shells represent the marine richness of the ocean and Mayan's first instrument of communication, the threes represent the high variety on nature and the star represent the Morning Star highlighting the Mayan Astronomical Culture. Quintana Roo is known to have over 2500 "Cenotes" and 407 underwater caves, some are available to swim and explore and the others are still hidden on the Mayan Jungle. The one I'm at is the famous "Skull Cenote" or "Cenote Calavera" and we can go swimming, shall we?

Character Thoughts:

Violetta: You will always be my baby. This girl has been through the wringer, with the Esmeralda deceit, Jeremías, and Diego. Then add to that losing her voice, losing Angie, and then losing her passion for a time. I just want to give her a big hug. And she honestly handles it with more grace than most people ever could. She deserves every good thing that comes her way.

León: A male protagonist that deserves rights. I appreciate his Entre Dos Mundos arc as someone pursuing a double major, although the motorcross seemed to come out of nowhere. I'm mad that he was mad about the non-consensual kiss and he certainly had his moments that frustrated me but like. He cares about Vilu so much.

Ludmila: She's so stupid... I love her. It's hard to remember what about her is real and what I made up because I think about her so much, so I won't say too much. Her fake friend era was such a time. It was hard to watch her cause Vilu pain, but what can I say except I know where she's coming from. Seeing her finally realize that hurting Vilu wasn't going to solve her problems was such a moment.

Naty: babeygirl. period. poor thing goes through it with Ludmila and I'm glad she ended the season happy. and yet, in the end, she will always choose Ludmi. she is unconditional. there's not much more that needs to be said here.

Francesca: Ah, Fran. She's always looking out for Vilu and that is something that I treasure. Her going-to-Italy arc was so.... yeah. As someone who knew they were leaving their hometown for college and also someone who knows they have to leave their college town whenever classes aren't in session, I get it. It's a lot. She had a really hard time letting her heart say yes to Marco, which could be frustrating, but I don't blame her. Commitment is hard, especially when you wonder how permanent things can be.

Camila: Ooooooh she's so funny. So many lines here and there that cracked me up. Her boy scrapbook was funny to me because like. That's such a normal thing to do. Not. But similar energy to something I'd do at the same time.

Diego: I hate this show for making me feel sorry for him by the end of it. He's almost even likable now. Dang it. I despised this man at the start of the season... creepy stalker. But in the end... idk. Something happened. All of the dynamics that he's a part of just make it.

Andrés/Broduey/Marco/Maxi: They exist. I don't think enough thoughts about them to say more than that.

Germán: I HATE HIMMMMMMM. Stupid Jeremías and stupid helicoptering send him STRAIGHT to prison. He did not deserve applause for Soy Mi Mejor Momento. That belonged to Vilu and the kids. As the child of overprotective parents, I have a lot of thoughts about Germán and how the show Violetta itself could be a metaphor for other things, but that should be its own post, so I won't expand for now.

Lara: she's so cool! Funky lil mechanic! Never did anything wrong tbh. I hope she ends up happy wherever she is.

Gregorio: this man is unhinged. But his development with Diego destroyed me. Like. I felt it in my soul. He truly has the range.

Angie: Her scenes with Vilu are always so special. But poor woman, she definitely needed to go to France. And her send-off... affected me. One of the deserves better girls for sure.

Jade: Please free her from the shackles of Germán and Mati. Enough said. Also her opera scene was ICONIC.

Esmeralda: It would be nice if she got a redemption arc in S3 but that won't be happening so... oh well. I also like how she brought Ámbar with her. Seeing Vilu being an older sister was cute.

Pablo: what was WRONG with this man for the majority of the season? Bring S1 Pablo back!

Olga/Ramallo: They exist. They care about Vilu. They put up with Germán. I couldn't do their job.

Pairings (Platonic and romantic)

Leonetta: A main ship I can support. Madrid!Podemos was so much. And all Leonetta hugs... so true. There's just a lot of care there.

León and Fran: such a fun dynamic, especially in Madrid. Best detectives. They just want to protect their girl Vilu.

Fran and Cami: these two fight like a married couple but in the end they have each others' best interests at heart. They often give each other advice that they need to take themselves lol.

Ludmila and Vilu: Vilu puts up with so much, bless her. The way she kept trying to let Ludmi in to her circle at the beginning of the season? The way she just moves on so quickly at the end? And the way Ludmi finally comes to her senses and wants to help her get her sparkle back? Yeah... s3 sisters will kill me.

Ludmila and Diego: Oh... so much. They're just so much. I want to study them under a microscope. Just a shocking and entertaining dynamic all around. The way they both despise and care about each other.

Diego and Vilu: Their start and end was not good. They had some cute moments, unfortunately. In another life, maybe. I can tell that in the end, he really did care about her, and was caught in a very rough spot. He wasn't in the right but I get it. I will be interested to see where their interactions go from here.

Fedemila: I mean I had fun. I like seeing Ludmila enamored. I like seeing her try. And they're both just so much, so diva.

Naxi: Maxi just. doesn't trust Naty. So while she ended the season happy, she deserves better, I think.

Brodemila: They are what they are. They're always gonna be in conflict. But their cute scenes are cute.

Marcesca: It would never work out in the end, but it was nice for what it was. Like him learning Italian? So good. His Madrid gestures may have been a bit toooo grand lol. Still. after S1, Fran deserved someone at least as decent as Marco.

Caxi: not the worst tbh. I don't have strong feelings either way.

Natila, Cadmila: Some enjoyable moments for both of these pairings. Tension between Cami and Ludmi. Naty and Cami making the music video. Their trio dynamic. So much fun!

Franletta: the softe girls!!!!!!! They fight so hard for each other. Fran pulling the fire alarm? Vilu convincing Fran's dad to let her stay? That whole arc was so much. All their hugs and just being attached at the hip... yes. Sweeties.

Eddie Redmayne: “Después de ganar un Oscar los directores dejan de dirigirte” | ICON España

“¡Serás cabrón!”, bromea Eddie Redmayne (Westminster, 40 años) desde su casa de Londres. Resulta que la conversación ha girado de repente hacia nuestras respectivas vacaciones y al ganador del Oscar al mejor actor de 2014 por La teoría del todo le han dado pelusa las de este redactor, aunque él también esté descansando. “Estuve haciendo Cabaret en teatro y fue una producción muy física que me llevó al límite. Seis días a la semana. Ocho funciones semanales. Y, pensando en mi familia, aprovecho el verano para tomarme un descanso y tratar de llenar el depósito. Pero no me voy de viaje a Asia como tú”, se justifica riendo.

En realidad, lo suyo también es bastante especial. Uno no recuerda haber hablado nunca con un intérprete de su nivel que reconozca no tener proyectos en marcha. Por lo general, todo actor tiene una película en la recámara. “Ya, no es lo normal, pero es la verdad, no tengo nada. El próximo año probablemente me arrepentiré de no estar trabajando ahora. Pero es verano, hoy se esperan 40 grados en Inglaterra… es hora de parar”.

Es una decisión que le pega. Cada generación necesita estrellas de talento con aires de galán como su amigo, el exmodelo Jamie Dornan. Pero también intérpretes con belleza enigmática y una carrera en el teatro, como es su caso. Actores que combinan superproducciones y películas de poco presupuesto, pero grandes pretensiones artísticas. A ellos se les reservan personajes destinados para la gloria, como el del científico Stephen Hawking, aquejado de esclerosis lateral amiotrófica degenerativa, que le dio un Oscar. “Cuando entré en La Teoría del Todo, todo el mundo empezó a compararlo con Daniel Day-Lewis en Mi pie izquierdo y a recordarme que él había ganado el Oscar. Casi me pongo enfermo de tanta responsabilidad”, recuerda del papel que, asegura, “me cambió la vida”. Han pasado casi 10 años, pero sigue viviendo en Londres con su mujer y sus dos hijos y hablando de Hollywood con la distancia del que lo mira desde fuera.

Este ha sido un curso intenso para él. Entre noviembre y marzo interpretaba en Londres al maestro de ceremonias de Cabaret, papel con el que ganó el premio Laurence Olivier a mejor actor de musical. “Tras años de pandemia estaba de repente en un escenario diminuto de Londres [el Playhouse Theatre] rodeado por una audiencia que bebía champán y, con los teléfonos desconectados, interactuaba. Es emocionante para un actor retar al público y ver su reacción”, cuenta.

En abril se estrenaba la tercera parte de Animales fantásticos y dónde encontrarlos, la precuela de Harry Potter, en la que el actor con la sonrisa más grande del momento interpreta al protagonista, Newt Scamander. Este otoño se estrena en Netflix The Good Nurse. Es un duelo interpretativo con Jessica Chastain basado en una historia real: el caso del enfermero Charles Cullen, de quien se sospecha que, a lo largo de 16 años, llegó a matar a 300 pacientes, aunque solo se pudieron demostrar 29 muertes. “Venía de trabajar en películas gigantes, que son como sinfonías en las que tú eres una pequeña parte. Con esta película traté de volver al por qué me hice actor, que es algo más parecido al jazz, más improvisado. Me encantan las grandes orquestas, pero también me gusta poder hacer un dúo con una compañera, algo que nos rete mutuamente. Con Jessica me sentí así”. “Pero para eso necesitas un director brillante que te dé espacio”, concluye. The Good Nurse ha sido dirigida por el danés Tobias Lindholm, realizador pero sobre todo guionista, conocido por la serie Borgen y por ser colaborador de Thomas Vinterberg en películas como La caza o la oscarizada Otra ronda (2020). Más que una historia sobre un asesino en serie, es un filme casi social sobre el deterioro de la calidad de vida de la clase media de Estados Unidos. Ciudades grises y frías de Nueva Jersey y Pensilvania. Enfermeros mal pagados con un trabajo físico agotador. No hay ningún glamur en los personajes de Chastain y Redmayne, quien interpreta a un asesino que demuestra la banalidad del mal, un tipo al que, cuando le preguntan por qué actuó así se limita a contestar: “Nadie me detuvo”. Mataba por matar, eso es todo. Sin lucirse, sin contarlo, sin aspavientos. La suya es una pulsión tan natural como la del que se enciende un cigarrillo nada más levantarse de la cama. “Parte de lo que me intrigaba de este papel fue que se escondía a la vista de todos. En apariencia era increíblemente empático y, al mismo tiempo, carecía completamente de empatía. Cuando hablas con personas que le conocían dicen que parecía un gran enfermero. Era el compañero que querías que se hiciera cargo de tus pacientes cuando te ibas a casa, porque era rápido y eficiente. Charlie siempre estaba allí, a veces antes de lo que le tocaba, entendía cada caso y trabajaba en horarios que nadie quería. Parecía un excelente enfermero. A todo el mundo le caía bien. En el libro en el que se basa la película [The Good Nurse, del periodista Charles Graeber] se le describe como alguien divertido que se burlaba de sí mismo y de su desastrosa vida personal”.

La película casi parece una obra de teatro. Pocos personajes, escenarios que son interiores claustrofóbicos y mucha penumbra. Un reto para un intérprete que es daltónico. “Eso fue un de las mejores cosas del rodaje. Mira, para hacer tu mejor trabajo como actor tienes que estar lo más relajado posible”, dice. “Pero nada en el proceso de hacer películas es relajante. Te levantas al amanecer, te maquillan a las seis y vas a un plató donde hay cientos de personas y una cámara. Entonces te dicen: ‘Relax’. Pues no. Todavía se me revuelve el estómago cada vez que oigo acción. Dicho esto, los grandes directores como, en mi opinión, es Tobias, crean un ambiente lo más relajado posible, una atmósfera que a los actores nos permite jugar y cometer errores sin temor a ser juzgados. En esta película, el director de fotografía hizo algo extraordinario: el primer día tenía que caminar por un pasillo del hospital a oscuras. Con mis problemas de visión casi no sabía dónde iba. Es una técnica que consiste en rodar con la menor cantidad de luz posible para que la imagen tenga grano. Cuando se encendía la luz, ahí seguía toda la maquinaria, pero mientras rodaba no podía ver a las personas sentadas detrás de la cámara. Fue muy liberador. Creo que en el futuro voy a poner en mi contrato que solo trabajaré con directores de fotografía que trabajen en total oscuridad”, bromea.

Habla mucho de la importancia de ser dirigido, porque, según él, hay dos cosas que ocurren cuando uno gana un Oscar: “Una es que dejé de tener que hacer pruebas para papeles, que fue como, guau. De repente, la capacidad de elegir se convierte en algo real y hasta ese momento nunca la has tenido. Hasta entonces hacía una prueba y si me daban el papel, lo hacía. Y no estás preparado para eso. Nadie te prepara para tener tu propio gusto. Algunos actores lo tienen y otros no”.

Cuando le dieron el Oscar, aclara, ya estaba rodando La chica danesa (2015). Es decir, aceptó ese papel en la época en la que, según él, cogía lo que le daban. Consiguió una segunda candidatura al Oscar, pero la historia de la pintora danesa Lili Elbe, la primera mujer trans en someterse a una cirugía de reasignación de sexo, ha sido quizás la mayor polémica de la carrera del actor. Se cuestionó que un hombre heterosexual como él interpretara un papel que podría haber ido para un intéreprete trans. En una entrevista con The Sunday Times en 2021, Redmayne declaró que se arrepentía de haberlo aceptado.

“Hice esa película con la mejor intención, pero creo que fue un error. El problema es que todavía queda mucha gente con la que no se cuenta. Tiene que haber un equilibrio o estas discusiones seguirán repitiéndose”, explicó en el periódico británico. También se posicionó sobre las declaraciones tránsfobas de J. K. Rowling, autora de Harry Potter y Animales fantásticos, saga que también ha producido. “Como alguien que ha trabajado tanto con J. K. Rowling como con miembros de la comunidad trans, quería dejar absolutamente clara mi postura: no estoy de acuerdo con los comentarios de Jo. Las mujeres trans son mujeres, los hombres trans son hombres y las identidades no binarias son válidas”, remató. Al mismo tiempo condenó la “inquina” con la que se trata a la autora. Redmayne dijo que los insultos en las redes sociales que soporta Rowling y los insultos contra las personas trans son “igualmente repugnantes”.

La segunda consecuencia de ganar un Oscar, afirma, es que “de repente, dejan de dirigirte. El día después de darte el Oscar, te dicen: ‘Tú haz lo que hiciste en La teoría del todo’. Sí, claro. Yo soy el mismo actor que ayer. Y soy alguien que disfruta siendo dirigido. Ese es mi rollo. Uno de los grandes placeres de The Good Nurse fue ser dirigido por una mano fuerte”. Al parecer, la experiencia del rodaje fue tan intensa que le llevó a tomar una decisión curiosa para un actor que lleva más de 25 años de oficio. “Cuando terminé el rodaje estaba tan emocionado que renació mi pasión por actuar y antes de los ensayos de Cabaret me apunté a un curso en una escuela de teatro en París”. La École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq, donde pasó dos semanas, es una institución fundada en 1956 que da primacía al gesto frente a la palabra. “Tienen unos profesores asombrosos que te tratan como si fueras mierda y te llevan más allá. Eso está bien, porque me encanta lo que hago y no quiero volverme perezoso. Creo que es un gran privilegio estar donde estoy y quiero seguir retándome y llevándome a situaciones incómodas”.

Eddie Redmayne se crio en una familia acomodada. Su bisabuelo, sir Richard Redmayne, fue un ingeniero que contribuyó a modernizar y mejorar las condiciones de seguridad en las minas de carbón. Su padre, ahora retirado, fue un banquero de la City. Los Redmayne pasaban los veranos en su villa de la Provenza francesa. Eddie, como antes su progenitor, estudió en Eton, el exclusivo internado donde compartía equipo de rugby con el príncipe Guillermo. “A mí me daba un poco de pena”, contó en un talk show. “En todos los partidos iban a por él, para poder contar el resto de sus vidas que habían placado al heredero al trono”. Hoy pasa de puntillas sobre el tema. “No tengo mucho más que añadir. En esos programas siempre te piden que cuentes algo de tu vida que no hayas contado antes. La verdad es que ya no sé de donde sacar”, dice, encogiéndose de hombros.

No había actores en la familia, pero sus padres no le pusieron pegas. Empezó a participar en las obras teatrales de su colegio y pronto ya lo hacía en montajes profesionales. “Cuando tenía 11 años, conseguí un pequeño papel en el musical Oliver! en el London Palladium Theatre, un teatro enorme y antiguo del West End. Recuerdo que un día me levanté en medio de mi clase de matemáticas y dije: ‘Adiós, chicos, me voy al teatro’. Y cuando iba en el metro, a iniciar esa maravillosa experiencia de cuatro meses, pensé: ‘Esto está muy bien’. Ese fue probablemente el momento en el que decidí ser actor".

La primera mitad de su carrera, cuenta, discurrió en escenarios. “En EE UU comienzan en los anuncios o la televisión infantil. Yo solo conocía el teatro. Durante años, mi agente me mandaba a pruebas de televisión y cine y no conseguía nada, porque en vez de hablarle a la cámara proyectaba la voz al fondo del patio de butacas. Nadie me había enseñado. Cuando empecé en el cine, aunque mi trabajo a menudo me horrorizaba, se convirtió en una nueva forma de vida. En el teatro opinan que solo lo suyo es actuación de verdad y no estoy de acuerdo. Cuando empecé a filmar descubrí que la cámara lo ve todo. Cuando volví al teatro tras haber hecho cine, sentí que había progresado mucho”.

Tenía 20 años cuando empezó a aparecer en papelitos en series de televisión. Su peculiar físico (alto, desgarbado, de cara angulosa y edad indeterminada), lo hacía inolvidable. Su primer personaje importante en cine llegó en 2011, con Mi semana con Marilyn. Llevaba desde 2005 intentando entrar en Hollywood. Entonces formaba parte de una hornada de actores de las islas que compartían piso cada año unos meses en Los Ángeles mientras buscaban su oportunidad. Quizás les suenen sus nombres: Andrew Garfield, Robert Pattinson, Charlie Cox y Jamie Dornan. “Ahora nos reímos mucho con eso. Se ha convertido en la historia que todo el mundo quiere oír. Así que cuando nos vemos, lo comentamos: ‘Chicos, esto es genial porque es buen material para los talk shows’. Como no hay mucho que contar estamos pensando en inventar historias sobre la locura que era aquello. Pero la verdad es que sólo éramos un puñado de actores británicos e irlandeses sin trabajo que, en teoría, íbamos a Los Ángeles en enero para buscar. La realidad es que en Londres era invierno y llovía, así que ibas porque hacía buen tiempo y, ya de paso, intentabas conseguir un papel en alguna serie. Lo extraordinario ha sido que nuestro pequeño grupo tuvo tanta suerte que todos hemos catado el éxito. Ahora tengo el consejo y el apoyo de mis amigos. Eso de: ‘Sí, he pasado por lo mismo. Te diré lo que yo hice’. Y te fias de su palabra, porque estábamos juntos cuando no éramos nadie”.

Él, asegura, necesita consejo. Afirma ser tan inseguro que cuando le dieron el Oscar lo que sintió fue alivio porque no había decepcionado a nadie. “Mira, la mayoría de los actores te dirá que de lo difícil es conseguir el papel. Y que cuando lo tienes, ya está, se acabaron las dudas. Es el momento. Y es cierto, entras en éxtasis. Pero, en mi caso, dura unos tres segundos y medio antes de que vuelva el miedo. Por eso me vino muy bien trabajar con Jessica Chastain, porque ella tiene una formidable confianza en sí misma y me ayudó. No aceptaba mis autoflagelaciones. Me decía: ‘No sigas por ahí’. Y se lo agradezco mucho”.

The Good Nurse no hubiera funcionando si ellos dos no combinaran tan bien. Nunca habían trabajado juntos, pero sí habían coincido en shows como el del cómico James Corden, donde parecían amigos de toda la vida. “No la conocía mucho. Es una de esas cosas de Hollywood: coincides en programas como el de Corden, en alfombras rojas o tienes amigos en común. Supongo que es una especie de amistad social, un espacio común. Pero siempre he admirado su trabajo”.

No se quiere plantear si su papel en The Good Nurse es carne de premios. “No hables de eso, por favor. Para mí, de lo que trata mi trabajo es de aspirar a la perfección, reconociendo que nunca voy a conseguirla. Cuanto más viejo te haces más aprendes que el objetivo es aspirar a ello, no lograrlo. Y lo que realmente me encantó de esta película fue la confianza en Tobias. Después de ver algunas tomas del primer día vi que era una película de Tobias Lindholm. Confié de verdad en su gusto y él en el actor con el que estaba trabajando. Fue muy liberador no tratar de microgestionar el exterior, sino simplemente poner mi corazón y mi alma. Así que, olvidemos lo de los premios y vayámonos de vacaciones, que nos lo hemos ganado”.-

Este itinerario, que sigue el curso de una acequia nazarí hasta la impresionante Cascada de los Bolos, está enmarcado dentro del hermoso Parque Nacional de Sierra Nevada.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="15px"][vc_column_text]Esta zona cuenta con otras rutas de senderismo en Granada que merecen la pena para una escapada de varios días pateando la naturaleza, como la del Gollizno, la de Los Cahorros, la del Mamut o la Vereda de la Estrella.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="15px"][vc_column_text]La ruta de los Bolos es lineal y de dificultad media, recorriendo 3,2 kilómetros de ida (6,5 km en total) en los que el agua es el principal protagonista. El desnivel total es de 452 metros, y la ruta se recorre en aproximadamente 2 horas. sobre métodos de regadío, construyeron este curso agua artificial para regar los campos cercanos a la actual Dúrcal, con el agua que seguía el curso del río que hoy lleva el mismo nombre que la localidad. Un estrecho sendero nos guiará hasta un puente, que cruzaremos para encontrarnos con un pequeño riachuelo que deberemos seguir siempre hacia arriba, salvando algunas escaleras de troncos que nos llevarán hasta la famosa acequia nazarí.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="15px"][vc_column_text]Ya solo nos queda ir recorriendo esta acequia que, aunque te tiente a ir por su interior, sobre todo con el calor del verano, debes recordar que por aquí para agua con sedimentos muy importantes para el regadío de las tierras de Dúrcal, por lo que intenta respetar el curso del agua.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="15px"][vc_column_text]En muchos de los tramos tendremos que pasar entre estrechos muros de lado, llevando la mochila en la mano para no rozarla.
