‘Team Avatar Tales‘ Hoedown
This isn’t a review. I’m not sophisticated to do Reviews with a number score at the end and some kind of pronouncement about whether or not every single person, regardless of their personal tastes/circumstances/finances, should buy this book. So, instead, I’ll be dancing through the each of the short stories in this book.
(It was on sale at NYCC at the Dark Horse booth. So I guess this is super-exclusive NYCC coverage! Woo! I am sophisticate and journalism!)
1. “Rebound” (Script: Gene Luen Yang / Art: Ryan Hill)
Yes, this is the same comic that came out for Free Comic Book Day six years ago, still serving as an epilogue for The Promise and a prologue for Smoke & Shadow even though it isn’t collected with any version of either of those stories. Mai is still awesome, we still don’t have that ‘Lone Wolf & Cub’-inspired anime about her and Tom-Tom, and this story is one of TWO in this collection using a main Fire Nation character and the other one is ALSO a FCBD-reprint and also doesn’t feature Zuko despite him being on the cover. Sorry, Zuko fans!
2. “The Substitute” (Script: Dave Scheidt / Art: Little Corvus)
Hey, remember the comic ‘Private Fire’ about Sokka going out while wearing fake facial-hair and getting hauled into a comedic misadventure due to mistaken identity? Apparently, Dave Scheidt does, and he loved it so much he used the exact same idea -- substituting a preschool for a military camp -- and compressed it down to 8 pages filled with standard “kids are monsters” jokes. It also has a framing that makes no sense because the gAang is already in their Fire Nation outfits but they still need to stay out of sight or wear disguises and also Toph is missing for some reason. Maybe the artist didn’t get the note and this is supposed to take place in Book Water in the colonies.
3. “Shells” (Script: Gene Luen Yang / Art: Faith Erin Hicks)
Another FCBD reprint, this is the story of how Suki hates stock misogynists who promote the Fake Geek Girls thing and also reveals that Kyoshi started the Kyoshi Warriors in order to give women the means to defend themselves. This comic is still heavy-handed and still perfectly adequate and still the second-best thing Gene Yang has ever written after Rebound.
4. “Sokka’s Poem” (Script: Ron Koertge / Art: Gene Luen Yang)
This is a two-page little love-letter to Sokka’s character that is exactly like all those “We need to talk about Sokka...” tumblr posts that I like and reblog except this one is illustrated by Gene Yang for some reason. Also, both pages were in the official previews, so you can just read it there. This story features Zuko’s only appearance (outside of Mai’s memories) in the collection, showing him sleeping in a sleeping bag with the rest of the gAang. (I mean they’re all sleeping in sleeping bags, not all in his sleeping bag. Missed opportunities.)
5.Toph & The Boulder (Sara Goetter)
One of two pieces in this collection to be written and drawn by the same person, and so it turns out to be the only comedy thing in here that completely nails it. This story was previewed last year at NYCC, and is about Toph helping the Boulder with his cat. It’s silly and funny and ridiculous and impossible to take seriously and full of energy. Like I said: nails it. I think Sara Goetter should take over the main Avatar comic line and turn the post-cartoon series into a sitcom. I’m being completely serious.
6. Origami (Kiku Hughes)
The other of two pieces in this collection to be written and drawn by the same person, and also the other of two pieces in this collection about a member of Team Avatar giving a confidence boost to a girl with self-esteem issues. Instead of being about Fake Geek Girls, this is about a girl who can’t fight and feels like she’s not special compared to warriors. It’s a cute little tale that shows some insight into the fact that being the Hope Girl of the group can’t be easy for Katara, but unfortunately it just leaves this revelation as a pep-talk in some dialogue rather than actually doing anything with it. Still, it’s a nice little tale and gets Katara’s character and almost manages to be pleasant enough to numb the pain coming with the next story in the collection.
7. Sisters (Script: Gene Luen Yang / Art: Carla Speed McNeil)
Yes, another FCBD reprint. And I figured it out! Ty Lee’s sisters are all gaslighting her, and none of what they say about her or their childhood is true. One of the reasons Ty Lee ran away is because she couldn’t tell what was real and what wasn’t anymore back at home, and Mai told her to get the flameo out of Dodge. This is still the absolute worst thing to ever come from the Avatar franchise, and Ty Lee still needs help to beat a random thug working for a random guy running a random extortion racket against random circuses. I still think Sara Goetter should take over the entire Avatar comic line and do it all as a sitcom.
8. Scarecrow (Script: Dave Scheidt / Art: Coni Yovaniniz)
For some reason, Dave Scheidt got to do two stories in this collection about abusing Sokka. This one is the more ridiculous of the two, and doesn’t bother trying to be nice with its treatment of Sokka, and so this one is actually funny. It’s probably because the art is much more cartoony, so it makes physical abuse look fun and amusing. It’s like the Chibi Shorts in that respect, but this one actually has a sense of style that wasn’t stolen from anime and so is inherently superior.

I will never ever in my whole life touch a horror game, but if the story interests me enough I’ll research it and maybe watch it(i.e. Resident Evil, Until Dawn, Little Nightmares etc)
I never played Fallout or Skyrim(I doubt I’d ever play Fallout) but I love learning about the lore of them.
Note: I really can’t physically play a horror game or a game that just bothers me. I’ll feel sick, panicky and be unable to sleep for a few days, it’s that bad. Same for horror movies. Horror books I’m kinda fine with. Though this isn’t super specific because I do have exceptions. Horror anime I can handle depending on how crazy they get. Certain elements in games can also get to me, like having a super dark night cycle with no music(I’m looking at you Stardew) to being a first person open world all by myself(Firewatch). It’s just weird for me and hard to explain.

Tales of Festival Saturday Summary - 03
When asked if she remembered any cool lines from Asch, Neya said that he went 'TCH'.
As the Abyss party reminisce, Suzuken bemoans that they only talked about miso soup. "So this is Abyss, huh..."
Abyss: Asch's battle
In which we got to see Asch send Luke on and l actually cried TTwTT
Onosaka says that every time, the scenes shown for Abyss are so cool. But because SukiChi is always saying 'ORE WA WARUKUNEE' the gap is really big.
Abyss showed a second scene: A Confession That Didn't Reach
In which Luke sends the party away and they insist that he promises to come back to them alive.
The Zestiria team was last, and Kimura spoke about how he played Symphonia and Abyss, so he had nostalgic feelings about the scenes showed. Suzuken was high key staring at him for that HAHAHA
Kimura explained that they recorded the entire main story before moving on to the skits and subevents that were scattered through the plot.
Fukuen said that she didn't have that many lines in the main story, but that she did great things on the skits.
Suzuken: So you're a Skitter.
Zestiria: Kamui with Mikleo
In the water ruins where Melody of Water plays <3</p>
Suzuken: Fukuen didn't talk in that!
Fukuen: Because l'm a Skitter.
Next was the Tales of Entertainment News, hosted by Nagoshi Ryou (l think?). All the major news websites have already released them by then so l won't list them.
They move on to a game corner with the host, SukiChi, Konitan and Fukuen, to win rewards for the mobile games Rays, Asteria and Ancast.
They had to throw red balls at an enemy Otaota, reprsented by an Otaota basket on a long stick. The number of balls they got in within one minute would determine the level of rewards given.
Rays' rewards included 100 diamonds, a pair of Penlight Sabers for Lloyd, and the Viva Ticket, which gives one confirmed makyo summon.
SukiChi dashes his script onto the floor dramatically to show how ready he is to play, and the other two follow suit. But the moment the timer starts, Konitan grabs the entire otaota stick and lowers it, enabling SukiChi and Fukuen to simply put the balls in the basket.
They get all the balls in, and Nagoshi tries to make a pretence of counting them, but the seiyuu tell her it's okay to just say they won.
Next segment shows the first episode of Tales of Homeroom, a chibi style anime to be aired on Asobi store's premium account.
Ep 01:
Laphicet's compass breaks. He is injured, and other Tales characters are collapsed around him.
Velvet, with glowing red eyes and her therion arm, attacks.
Laphicet suddenly opens his eyes, as if waking from a dream. He is dressed in his school uniform, standing in school.
Yuri suddenly appears from over the wall. He is trying to skip class, and Flynn is chasing him. The two run circles around Laphicet, and Yuri tries to use him as a shield.
Yuri: I know. Skipping school is a crime.
Flynn: Even so, you intend to go ahead with your choice?

Yuri: Intend to? I already have.
The two get into a fight, and poor Laphicet is crouched nearby with his hands over his head. Velvet suddenly appears.
"What are you doing to Phi!" She uses her therion arm, sending Yuri and Flynn flying off.
Velvet holds out her hand to Laphicet. Remembering the dream from earlier, he hesitates. When she asks what's wrong, Laphicet shakes his head and allows her to help him up.
As they walk on, Edna and Mikleo are watching them from above. They comment on Velvet being the famed problem transfer student. Edna describes how, when Phi was picked on by Zagi, Hasta and Lunarre, Velvet dived in to beat them up. And when Laphicet was queuing for food, the same three cut his queue. Velvet again appears to attack them.
Edna says that Laphicet is the reason behind it all, so if they recruit him to the student council, Velvet would stop rampaging and peace would reign. Mikleo questions if it'll.be that simple, and Edna pokes him with her parasol.
The episode ends there. The Normin Dance has been adapted as the ED song. Edna sings, Milla is on the keys, Velvet on the snare drum, Laphicet the recorder, Ludger a tambourine, while Mikleo is in the middle dancing.
The next segment is about the Tales of Tour, a 3 day event where attendees spent time in Okinawa with Onosaka, Konitan, Takepon, Iwata and Arai. The video opens with an obvious Marvel film opening parody, where comic strips flash across the screen xD
Videos and images from the tour are showed, and they announce a second Tales of Tour.
They also announce a collab with Yakatabune, a Japanese style wooden boat tour. Ludger, Velvet and Senel will likely be guests or hosts (hence the yukata costumes).
Finally, they announce Tales of Orchestra for the year, with a new key visual.
And next up is the musical segment with Shiina Go.
(Note: l'll post Shiina Go's performance description separately, because l got a bit carried away with the music stuff. Skipping ahead to the talk with Shiina-san)
Shiina-san kept forgetting to speak into the mic, though they'd already told him during rehearsal to take note of it.
Shiina-san was worried about matching the tempo of the seiyuu.
Shiina-san: Life is a gamble
Onosaka: That sounds so cool
(He looked really cool too l'm just saying)
Shiina-san is currently working on Code Vein and doing music for cooking shows. He spoke a little about Chasing Shirley, with its high tempo, sharp sound, hysterical feel of being chased.

Rwby Chibi Xmas Skit Special. (Part5)
“House Trap?” Weiss’ eyebrow raised, as Ruby darted back to her.
“It’s about a kid who misses his ride for a holiday, gets left alone at Christmas and fights off thieves with comical and cartoon like traps that are implausible with physics. It’s one we watch every Christmas!” Ruby bounced up and down, eager to persuade Weiss to watch it.
“I still say Try Hard 1, cos that’s got guns and guns.” Yang winks as she points to her ember celiac and then her arms, making the others sigh at another terrible pun.
“That sounds like a daft premise, but if we’re doing the film, I’ll watch it too.” Weiss hides her interest, as she sees the others head over to the screen.
“I’ll get the presents, the drinks and-” Ruby is about to bolt carrying more stuff than she can carry.
“Let’s do it one thing at a time Ruby. Otherwise we’ll run out of things to do and you’ll likely hurt yourself.” Weiss advises as she takes a few things off Ruby to carry.
“This is going to be awesome!” Ruby declares as she urges Weiss to follow the others already sat in front of the screen. “Come on Xmas Bestie!”
(Transition scene: Kline cuts the cake that fills the screen, with each slice revealing the next skit till all slices are gone.)
Twas The Night Before Christmas.
The screen cuts to the girls going to bed, Ruby leaving a glass of milk and cookies for Santa. She takes a cookie and leaves a note ‘I promise I only had one of your cookies, R.R.’ as she crawled under the sheet.
Weiss waited for the others to fall asleep, before leaving a note next to the cookies, addressed to Santa. She closes her eyes, Zwei curling up with her on the bed, not aware of the sound coming from the chimney. Santa (his face hidden from the audience) makes his way to leave presents, including a giant bone for Zwei, when he picks up the letter. (It’s read as though Weiss is talking.)
It reads: Dear Saint Nicholas, I know I’ve not been the best friend or huntresses this year. I’ve been bossy, arrogant and rude to my friends & team. I know I don’t deserve them but I would like to ask only one thing this year. I wish to be besties (closer friends) with Blake, Yang, and especially Ruby. I know she can be impulsive, reckless and likes to waste my time, but I wouldn’t trade any of them for all the Dust in the world. With sincere regards, Weiss Schnee. P.s. If its possible, could I please have the latest shoe design to go with my combat skirt as a present? P.s.s. Could you please take this note so they don’t find out? I’d like to keep my reputation intact for just a bit longer.
Santa takes the note with him, disappearing up the chimney in a flash and merrily calling out ‘Ho-ho-ho.’, with the sleigh taking off from the view of the window. The scene turns to the room filled with presents as Ozpin starts to narrate.
“It was the night before Christmas, when all through the dorm, not a single thing stirred, not even a dog.” Ozpin stops as Zwei is awake, pulling away at a present shaped like a bone.
“I said, ‘not even a dog!’” Ozpin calls to Zwei who shies away back to bed. “That’s better, where was I? Oh yes, the children all snug in their beds, dreaming of sugary treats.”
Thought bubbles appear from Team RWBY, Weiss dreaming of crepes, Ruby dreams of cookies, Blake of biscuits shaped like fish and cats, while Yang dreams of Kline’s strawberry cake.
“Along with visions of them opening their presents, springing from their beds with sheer delight, upon finding bundles of toys and fine foods of their favourite kind as they wake.”
Thought bubbles now show the team opening their presents and eating tasty food.
“Their faces and cheeks, rosy like roses with the toys from the man with a beard white as snow. Travelling into the night on beasts that fly high, like the sun brightly rising with a new day over their fair city.”
Another thought bubble shows the other students all rosy cheeks at getting what they wished for Xmas. Then of Santa and his reindeers as they fly over Vale.
“The children merrily dreamed of the fun and wonder they’ll experience once the sun comes up. As they remained in a slumber, even as jolly Saint Nick left gifts for the other students too.”
The scene turns to Team JNPR, all nestled in their beds, except one. The screen focuses on the vacant bed as Nora fills the screen.
“Hey, some of us are trying to SLEEP here!” Nora grumbled as she crosses her arms.
“Miss Valkyrie, I’m trying to narrate here.” Ozpin broke from his narration to directly talk to Nora. “You shouldn’t even be awake now, let alone able to hear me.”
“How can anyone get any sleep with such a booming voice YAMMERING on all night?!” Nora protested, not noticing Santa in the background, tiptoeing with a great big sack.
“Just pretend I’m not here (not that I really am).” Ozpin instructed, as Nora mumbled as she adjusted her pillow and then booped herself with her hammer, instantly drifting off to sleep.
“Well, as I was saying.” Ozpin continued his narration, as Team JNPR all dreamed of Christmas morning. “They remained in slumber, dreaming of their presents, even as Santa Claus crept to leave the children their gifts.”
Pyrrha’s thought bubble is of Jaune kissing her under the mistletoe. Ren and Nora are sharing the same one involving pancakes, with Jaune’s being his Volume 4 armour upgrade.
“With but a tap of his nose, he shot up the chimney and flew into the night on his sleigh, not waking a soul. Not even a mischievous pup.”
Santa jumps up the chimney, while Zwei is back to pulling at the present as Ozpin coughs to get his’s attention.
“Zwei, last warning, be a good boy and go back to bed.” Zwei slowly walks back to bed, with a low huff before snoring, in the bed with Blake. “That’s better.”
Zwei dreams of a giant bone, and cuddles from Team RWBY, including Blake and Weiss who give him a cake & a fish of his own.
“Away he flew, like the down of a thistle.”
Santa’s sleigh begins to rise and the reindeer take the lead in heading home.
“Yet I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight and the sun finally rising on Christmas morning-”
Santa disappears as he calls out one last ‘ho-ho-ho’ as Ozpin continues to narrate.
“Merry Christmas to all.- ” Ozpin’s voice is distorted, another voice is merged, speaking with him, slowly becoming clearer, as the scene is no longer in Vale but a desolate location (the same as from Volume 3’s finale episode). It changes like the pages turning of a book to the very last page.
“-and to all a good night.” Salem says as she turns towards the screen, her eyes glowing red as she smirks before the skit concludes with static.

Tale As Old As Time: A FinnRey AU
Chapter One
A/N: Okay, so I’m really nervous about posting this. This is my first fic written with two canon characters, and my first fic I’m posting publicly, so please be gentle! However, feedback would be much appreciated. This first chapter is a lot of exposition to get the plot rolling, but I promise chapter two will be much more interesting. It’s also very short, so sorry about that! Hopefully its enjoyable :)

Word Count: 794
Finn’s almost-fatal crash on Jakku was the biggest news to hit Niima outpost in a long time. Finn didn’t remember much; it seemed as though he barely knew his own name. At first, he was much too shaken up to tell his own story, and there was nobody there to tell it for him. He was stuck, trapped, alone, and scared. The villagers themselves barely spared water and food, and he had to fend for himself. Once he was stable enough to tell his story, they only neglected him further once he revealed his past experiences as a First Order stormtrooper. It didn't matter to them that he had never actually harmed anyone. It didn't matter to them that he had worked in the sanitation department until his first official mission. All that simply didn't matter.
He began to work for his food, there was no need to earn credits here. He would clean the parts brought home by the tough scavengers who slaved away in the desert each day. Finn dipped his cloth into the murky lukewarm water and began to scrub the filthy, disfigured chunk of metal on the table. Another young man threw himself into the seat across from him, and poured the contents of his bag onto the table.
“You're the one who crashed- right?” He asked, and Finn nodded quietly. “There's been big talk about you.”
“Oh…” Finn responded awkwardly. “I must be the first visitor in a while, then.”
“Oh, you are.” The man said eagerly, almost cutting off the end of his sentence. “So. What sorta rumors have you heard?”
“Sorry- about what?” Finn asked as he began to scrub the next old part.
“Just… about this place; Jakku, Niima… what have you heard?”
“That it's dry… and hot… and rather boring.” He shrugged, unsure of how to respond.
“Well… at least you're honest. Have they told you about the… the thing, in the wreckage?” The man asked, glancing around anxiously.
“Hey- what ‘thing?’” Finn demanded, eager to know.
“People ‘round here know not to mess with her. She's a monster, a beast.”
“What sort of monster?” Finn asked quietly, his eagerness disappearing like he had never felt it. He had experienced plenty of monsters in his time, and he wasn't keen to come across another one.
“Well, the thing is…” the man was stalling, he knew it. “Nobody exactly knows. She doesn't take well to visitors. A lot of people who have gone to explore her territory haven't exactly… come back in one piece.” Finn felt a shiver run down his spine.
“And you're positive- it's a… she?” He asked after clearing his throat.
“Yeah. Rumor has it that she was a girl from this very village who got cursed or somethin’. A few folks think they used to know her, when she was just a girl.”
“Wouldn't they notice if someone just… didn't show up one day? Or just… vanished?” Finn questioned, frowning in confusion.
“At Niima?! No!” The man almost laughed, breaking the tense mood. “Everyone here is too concerned with themselves, and honestly? You should be, too. If someone doesn't show up for a while, it's no big deal. It's sad, but true.”
Finn’s gaze drifted down to the table and he sighed, taking in a deep breath of the hot, dry air.
“That poor kid..” he mumbled after a few seconds of silence that were broken only by the alien chatter and Niima Outposts’s soundtrack of clanging metal and cotton flapping in the wind. “I wonder if that's really her in there…” he sighed, glancing over at the wrecked Star Destroyer in the distance, almost admiring the faded grey smudge that ruined the crisp, clean line of the horizon.
“All the evidence says it must be her, but you're better off staying here rather than going to investigate. Take my word for it.” The man stood up, gathered his scavenged parts into his bag, and gave Finn an all-too-firm pat on the back. Then, he was gone.
“Okay… thanks, I guess.” Finn mumbled to nobody, a harsh gust of wind sending a cloud of tan dust straight into his face. He coughed and hunched over, almost falling out of his seat and onto the ground. He caught himself at the last second, heaving for breath that stung at his throat as the air passed his lips. The rising, swirling clouds of sand covered the blue-grey horizon and blocked his view of the beast’s “territory.” He gave another cough and sat up, the thought of what might be contained there nagging in the back of his mind. He pushed the curiosity away and got back to work. Maybe it was all a rumor, a lie. It was nothing, he decided. Nothing at all.

I have many weaknesses in fanfic. One of them is fusion. I’ve hesitated doing a list of cherik fusion for quite some time, not sure if people would be interested, but I actually discovered that it relaxed me to do it so… Here it is !
