Lights On..

Day 3. Light. How magical is it!? Google defines light as – “The natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible.” Is that it? Really is there any definition for such an amazing creation of nature! It is rather more subjective than objective. The perception of light is different from one person to another. The feeling of it varies to and fro across the extremes of the emotional range.

More than every once in a while, I come across such a sight that fascinates me. The magical web of colours weaved by light. There is a lots of science involved in the meaning and behavior of light but more than the science behind it, it is the experience of the scenic beauty light creates around us every now and then. Pretty much from childhood, I have thought light as one of those things which is pure and not evil. I have believed light as the force to destroy darkness & hence, associated light with all the positive energies around me. It may sound absurd but being someone who fears darkness & horror movies, light has been quite an obsession to me at times.

We all encounter lights everyday – at home, at workplace, on the way, by the street, everywhere. A sunny day, a moonlit night and the aurora borealis is nothing but a magnificent display of light. I tend to capture those kind of images more than often to relish the feeling of having had an experience to see such beautiful phenomena.

“Lights will guide you home..” The lines are from the song, fix you by Coldplay and somehow this line has stayed with me from the first time I heard this beautiful song, almost a decade back. It is as much true as the stories of contemporary stories of voyages that the sailors went on, trusting the stars to guide them to their destination across the vast expanse of the sea. In literature, lights have been associated with positive phrases like - “There’s light at the end of the tunnel”. In festivities, we celebrate the festival of lights, Diwali which is synonymous to the celebration of victory over evil. So, all being said light has always been an integral part of our lives in the past, now and will remain even after we cease to exist.
