boyf riends - 6/10. cute but so hard to tag. i think i saw backpack boyfriends being used back in the day that's a cute alternative

stagedorks - 9/10. a little basic but a classic it's cute

spicy bis - -5/10. this one is awful. makes zero sense, sounds atrocious, jeremy isn't even canonically bi. the other alternatives were even worse (i don't even wanna say it) but why use any of them when richjer exists

deere - 9/10. i fucking love it it's just their last names smashed together but it's fucking deere (dillinjer is a 4/10 because pronunciation-wise it's too similar to dillinger)

puppy love - 5/10. cute but straying a little into the tired 'jeremy is a furry' joke imo

expensive headphones - 3/10. idk it's just lazy and it's a common enough phrase for me to get violent whiplash when i encounter it in the wild

Richjake reincarnation au!

Basically it’s similar to the premise of yours(i am very unoriginal)

It starts with rich being a greek hero and jake is a normal villager. Rich saves jake in a fight/war and jake admires rich for his courage and strength. Jake dies taking a hit for rich and rich dies in a later war

Then it’s medieval times where jake is a prince and rich is a royal knight and somewhat jake’s bodyguard. It’s basically a forbidden relationship kind of deal. Jake dies by assassination and rich kills himself because of the heavy grief and thinking that he failed his job

Big time skip to the romantic period(idk what to add between this and medieval richjake dhbsjjsjakbakl) Jake is a piano prodigy that composes for plays and theatre stuff. His pieces never got really famous but rich, a music undergrad, really appreciates jake’s work and loves his music, so they start talking and become friends! This is also a forbidden romance kind of deal because people back then were really homophobic(this was inspired by Tchaikovsky btw) Still thinking about how they die here so leaving that blank for now

Next time skip to the world wars(still deciding which one but for now probably 1) This one is enemies to lovers richjake!! So war happens and rich lost his army and is hiding his identity in this place where he meets jake, the leader of his rivaling army. They don’t know each other but they had fun talking to each other at the bar where they first met. They exchanged letters while the war went on to keep in touch, until one day jake stopped responding because he died(reason undecided) and rich dies of undecided reasons later on

Then big time skip to musical richjake! I was thinking of friends with benefits to lovers for this one and the squip incident will be the big obstacle they have to face before they finally get their happy ending

I was also thinking of a bonus future richjake if i ever make a fic of this(maybe I won’t because the war thing is repetitive but. history’s like that.) If i do make a future richjake reincarnation thing it’ll be like. Fake dating or something. I’m trying to use a different trope for each time period

Snippet:

Rich sat beside Jake as he played the piano. He watched Jake’s fingers move gracefully across the keys, hitting every note perfectly. His gaze travelled upwards to Jake’s face, illuminated by the lights on the stage. Rich could see his beautiful eyes, his sharp features, his lips- Rich blushed. That was way too inappropriate. He directed his gaze to the sheet music in his hands, lowering his head slightly so Jake wouldn’t catch the soft pink color on his cheeks.

Penpal pinkberry!

This is a short one because it’s a very undeveloped idea. Basically there’s this pen pal thing for one of their language subjects and they have to write in that language to the pen pal. Pen pals are picked randomly and people use nicknames so people don’t get embarrassed writing the letters. Chloe and brooke were paired together(but they don’t know yet) and at first they treat it as a “ugh homework” kind of thing but once they got close they started enjoying writing letters to each other. Just imagine them sharing their biggest secrets to each other in their letters but in real life they have this tense friendship and it seems like chloe hates brooke when she actually has a crush on her and is bad at expressing her feelings vocally.

Before that semester ended, they exchanged emails(anonymous emails) to continue the pen pal thing even after their language class thing ended(idk how subjects work in the us). So they talk and stuff and chloe vents about her crush on brooke(without actually saying her name of course) and brooke gives her advice. Chloe starts treating brooke differently and that’s when brooke is like huh. How strange. And she eventually realizes that chloe is her pen pal. And she now understands why chloe acts the way she acts(because chloe would tell brooke her issues in the letters and brooke would comfort her) and it all makes sense now.

And that’s all i got for this one. It’s really cheesy but i need some simple pinkberry fluff in my life.

hey be more chill peeps, i have a question!! about ships!

well first i have exposition lol.

so i ship richjake, bc i like the drama and angst that surrounds them. neither come from good homes, there's the whole "rich set a fire" thing, the foundation of their friendship is a lie bc rich was squipped. also i love jake (like, so much) and this is The Big Jake Ship so like. i naturally gravitated toward it.

i swing between whether i prefer stagedorks or boyf riends. ngl, i feel like boyfs (and also michael) is like... everywhere. you can't go anywhere in the bmc fandom without encountering it, it seems. which isn't necessarily a bad thing! it just gets... dull, i guess. (and like, no offense if you adore boyfs or stan michael. idc. you do you! im glad that makes you happy! it just isn't always my jam.) so i like both stagedorks and boyfs, but neither particularly much, just because it feels like they (with richjake) are the Big Ships.

(side note: you may ask, why doesn't richjake being Big and Everywhere bother me in the same way? and that's a great question! you're right! i don't know haha, sorry!)

i also! really love upstage!! like!! so much!! at least part of that is cause im a bit of a rarepair fiend, apparently. but again, it's about the Drama. i love thinking about jake in the hospital and the Development he's gotta go through. this is applicable to richjake too, but i like to think about christine bc she is so similar to me. i also think she'd hold jake to a higher standard than rich would. her being jake's "love interest" forces him to think about his actions, apologize, and change.

anyway, all that to say: what's the appeal of other ships?? those are my personal preferences, but i know that there are a lot of ships for this fandom! and it fascinates me! i tend to stick to richjake, upstage, stagedorks, and boyfs, bc that's what i'm familiar with. but i want to know what peoples' special ships are and why you love them! (especially like deere, or expensive headphones, or pinkberry, or cinnabun. but please talk about Any Ship i'd love to hear it!!!) so you can ramble or recommend fics (i'd love if you recommended fics ngl) or like do whatever! i just wanna know why people love the ships you love. also, if you have a different take on the ships i talked about, feel free to share!

So I do that cool thing where half the shit I "write" exists only in my head and nowhere else. How I Feel About This Character

She's not my favorite, but I don't necessarily hate her. She has a ton of potential to work with for writing/character studies given that she doesn't have much of a backstory in the show. So, while I do get and agree with most of the criticism towards her, I like that she's a complicated character. (That's not to say she's the most deeply complex character out there, not by any means lol) We need more female characters like that. Especially ones that don't get vitriolic hate for just EXISTING, y'know?

All The People I Ship Romantically With This Character

Chloe x Christine shipper all the way! I love the idea of them together, I just think they'd be really cute. And I also really like the idea of her and Madeline having complicated feelings for each other. Like, they like each other, but Chloe's weirdly jealous of her too or something like that? Basically cursed yuri if you really think about it

My non-romantic OTP For This Character:

I don't ship PinkBerry, but I like her and Brooke fixing the issues in their friendship and actually growing into their own people/becoming better friends as a result. I like to think that once they really get to know each other, they don't rely on each other as much but still stay friends. Idk man, she's hard though I do like the idea of her Jenna and Rich being chaotic together. They're actively disturbing the peace and they look hot doing it

My Unpopular Opinion About This Character

I see her either trying to be a better person and treating the others better, OR joining an MLM. There's no in between. Like she either follows the mean girl to nurse/lawyer/politician pipeline, but just isn't as mean, or gets really chill and tries to push that part as far deep as she can from her.

One Thing I Wish Would Happen/Had Happened With Them In Canon

That we learn more about her! Like her homelife, her interests, her goals, her relationships and how they came to be with the other characters, just more about her other than "the bitchy mean girl." Both that and her actions get discussed or acknowledged. They probably do in canon, and I could just be clueless, but from what I know that just? Doesn't happen? They don't talk about some of the messed-up stuff she did, so that'd be nice to see in either canon or fanfiction.

My OTP

Her and Christine. I could just see the two of them caring about each other and her being someone Chloe feels comfortable with. She feels like she can talk to her, and Christine has the person she's most afraid of judging her, not doing that at all. She even gets her into acting too and it's something they bond over, just so much fun dynamics to explore with them. I love them <3

My Cross-Over Ship

I haven't thought about it all that much, but honestly, her and Harper or Missy from Heartbreak High. I don't know why, I just think they'd be cool together for whatever reason. That or like Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop or Ashley Graham from Resident Evil just because it'd be really funny

A Headcanon Fact

This has probably been said before, but like most of the rest of the cast I see her home life being pretty bad too. Her parents are probably absent or just can't connect with her, so she acts the way she does as a result. I don't think they're bad people, just not around enough to really get to know her. That's not to excuse her behavior though, it's just my weird way of seeing it.

a little backstory first:

eliza (known on the internet as eliza cuts cause she did hair and that was her scene name sdfhskd) was gerard’s girlfriend/fiance. no one really knows how long they were together but i believe they got together sometime during revenge. she did gerards hair and makeup sometimes. in lotms when he’s gettin his eyeliner done and the girl says something like stop your eye from getting tweaky and hes like “deal with it” thats eliza. 

i’m not positive but she was good friends with alicia, mikey’s first wife, and i think he may have met her through alicia. they were in a group of friends referred to as the “world’s most hated crew”. here’s a video of them at pinkberry with jeffree star and heychris lmao.

anyway they dated and then they got engaged. there’s rumors that she proposed and pretended to be pregnant to get him to say yes but those are just rumors and i have no idea if they are true or not. 

a lot of people don’t know that gerard was engaged before lynz but he was and he was engaged to eliza up until sometime during the summer of 2007, same summer that he married lynz.

in may of 2007 he was asked about the ring that he was wearing and said that he found someone very special in this interview at around 1:58 and this is just a clip of an interview that i don’t think exists in full on the internet anymore but he says that he confirmed he was engaged and that was in june of 2007.

basically eliza was like big on myspace and the internet but also was known to hang around on mcr forums and see what was being said about her and possibly even posting under an alias. mcr fans were NOT big fans of her.

on june 4th 2007 someone claiming to be close to the band posted on imnotokay.net (which was the biggest mcr forum on the internet) and addressed the eliza situation. they said:

"HiI felt I had to write to you guys to allay some of your fears regarding the rumours and speculation surrounding Gerard and Eliza and the future of the band.This is the only time I will ever post. I will not be able to respond to your comments or enter into discussion or debate on what I'm about to say.We are aware that this is one of the most popular message boards for MCR fans and we know you guys are the most dedicated and loyal fans in the world. It saddens me to see such division amongst the fans over one woman. If it's any consolation, you guys are not the only ones affected. She is merely tolerated by both band and crew. Believe me, nothing anyone can say will change his mind. theres a lot of speculation on who could have been. possibly brian, someone else close to the band, etc, but my favorite theory is that it was frank who posted it. i think the last line sounds exactly like him. but that’s speculation.

anyway at some point during that summer gerard broke off the engagement.

this is my favorite part and the craziest part. she went on to write a fanfiction about their relationship. seriously. she renamed herself emma and gerard, paul who was in a band called The Black Pajama Party......i couldn’t make this up if i tried. she posted it on her myspace which doesn’t exist anymore but it’s been transcribed here if you want to read it. tw for mention of self harm.

anyway that was basically the end of it. she auditioned for american idol one year but didn’t make it lol. i ended up facebook friends with her at some point i’m not even sure how???

which bmc scenes make you the softest bc for me it's gotta be most of the stagedorks scenes ESPECIALLY a guy that i'd kinda be into. mostly bc of christine cause her and michael are my favs (i love them all sm though) but also bc of jeremy because he is a close second to both of them. also vimh but vimh makes me cry a lot although nowadays i can hardly watch one scene without at the very least tearing up. anyways yeah which ones make you soft

i simply rewatched bmc and took notes for this and really got off track at points in the sense of sticking to What Makes You Softest but that’s how it goes babey

ACT ONE - in mts when jeremy is just having a whole moment being smitten in christine's presence while she's inelegantly picking herself up off the floor and smearing on lip balm and adjusting a skirt wedgie - jeremy and michael just being default that glad to meet each other in the middle of a random schoolday - michael hyping up jeremy's crush on christine and just encouraging this momentum to get jeremy to sign up for the play - ilpr.....that christine stops after like, the first two verses and goes back to her book b/c she doesn't figure someone's looking to listen to her beyond that but then she sees jeremy's still 110% paying attention and the whole rest of the song enfolds with increasing enthusiasm - jake doing that whole bit "all the pressure i feel to be the best at everything all the time" lmao classic stuff here, depressing content delivered in this humorousse way. charming moment - "leave me alone, i've had a bad day" - 2pg......when michael taps jeremy on the shoulder to get jeremy to join in on his choreo, which jeremy then does.....that michael asks if jeremy will be too cool for Video Games and jeremy just responds Emotionally Directly......we love the Favorite Person moment......that this song just ends with the two of them grooving 2gether god bless - jeremy stammering and Tics and Fidgeting when the squip remarks uponst it - jeremy delivering the Looking Pretty Sexy Brooke as awkwardly as possible and she's just like "thanks :)" - jeremy's own Theatricality coming out......hey hamlet - jeremy spinning around in place alternately addressing both brooke and the squip with "oh i'm supposed to meet my friend michael" - nice little detail wherein brooke signals for chloe to join in on her choreo - speaking of, v fond of the Moment jeremy is in on both their choreo......brooke sort of alarming jeremy with her whole attempted grande finale, straw and all, ft. the first instance of her messing with his hair so much she's just tugging his entire head around - cute that jake and rich have a sort of 2pg-esque handshake routine too - jeremy's "that's sad, what should i do" reaction re: jenna - rich's Earnest invitation to come over and play xbox... - "bonjour, jeremy" "ooh brooke!" and this whole exchange, her complimenting him, him laughing at "That Was French" and remembering to ask about pinkberry - love the whole choreo sequence/s in sync up, especially fond of his Moments with the girls, bumping hips with chloe (twice), hearing some Gossip from jenna, posing with brooke.... ;__; - the bowling alley performance art exchange before agtikbi ;____; - agtikbi......the glittery hearts choreo.....the whatever! the interlude or whatever!!! the I Guess A Part Of Me section hhhhoughhh ;o; ;o; ;o; ;o; ;o; that she pulls him into a hug and puts her head against his shoulder omggg ;_________; - brooke just trying to interact with jeremy the Right Way w/o any guidance on the bleachers and it continues to be awkward and funny....like comforting just his Leg while he converses w/his squip.....how she just ends up Physically pushing him around by the hands and head and shoulder and etc......whole situation here in upgrade.mp3 clearly less than Ideal but jeremy and brooke are nevertheless very cute individually And together - meanwhile jake also trying to genuinely Be With christine in upgrade is also charming lol, quitting archery to hang w/a girl like her.... - i always love when the Playful Shove brooke gives jeremy at "but at the mall, you looked at me" pushes him back a whole few steps....this moment of them truly Getting each other sans anyone else's interference.....tres magnifique - jeremy being That psyched to see michael for the first time (in like, less than one full day lol)....michael being That psyched just hearing that jeremy's cool scifi thing worked out after all - lgw ;_________________________; - like i'm some normal, handsome guy..... - giving us All that silence after "The Problem Has Always Been Me" - the whole bit where he launches into the "I'm Not The [series of insults]" and i've realized it's really especially a stretch to say i'm Soft for these moments in lgw but i Am vulnerable and that's its power. little 1" tall will roland on my screen here just made me shed a real tear doing That.....

i feel like it's often overlooked how brooke was, in the very least, a bystander to chloe's bullying. i don't remember if there were any specific instances of her being more of an active participant but realistically she would've felt pressured by chloe to do so. did she ever want to hurt anyone? absolutely not, but that doesn't change the fact that she is somewhat responsible for it.

i honestly don't find the leads (jeremy michael christine and the squip, that is) particularly interesting 😭 every so often i find myself thinking 'oh man this fandom is so oversaturated with content about these characters' and then i catch myself because. they're literally the main characters. that's normal. i'm not normal. oh and speaking of oversaturated i definitely think there is an overabundance of boyf riends to the point where i sometimes find it annoying 😶

actually on second thought my biggest unpopular opinion is probably that i Do Not like the broadway version. at all. sorry i tried but i just can't. that's just my opinion though it's totally cool that other people do

my taste in ships is fairly generic lol. yknow the 'mainstream' non-canon ships and then the canon ships. my most niche ship is definitely the popular kids polycule though i'm not sure if it qualifies as 'unpopular', it's just. not really a thing lmao??

then again this fandom is chill (pun intended) so i don't think there really are 'unpopular' ships in the sense that they're actively disliked. ​for instance a lot of people have pinkberry as their notp but it's still pretty popular.

BnHA Chapter 238: Shigaraki Tomura: Tattered Goth Remix

Previously on BnHA: Young Shimura Tenko killed his whole family, as angsty young misguided antagonist characters sometimes do, and then proceeded to wander the streets feeling all sad about it until All for One just happened!! to come across him and was all “oh you poor thing it looks like you killed your whole family by accident, let me just adopt you and raise you to be my own personal killing machine.” We got some more flashbacks showing just how this transformation took place, plus some answers about the hands that kind of just raised more questions though tbh, and watched as little Tenko made his first premeditated kill after a number of effed up AFO pep talks. AFO then rechristened him “Shigaraki Tomura”, and we learned that Shigaraki is actually AFO’s own last name. The chapter ended back in the present day, with Tomura reflecting on how his family’s death wasn’t really a tragedy after all and ended up setting him free. We’ll have to agree to disagree, kid, but in the meantime have fun fucking up Re-Destro and dealing with Gigantomachia’s rampage!

Today on BnHA: Re-Destro tries to smash Tomura at 100% and absolutely nothing happens. So then he summons a bunch of robot armor bits like fucking Iron Man, and levels up to 150%! Tomura could not care less, because he’s leveled up to be one of those “yawn, is that all you got?” bad guys now, and while RD desperately tries to intimidate him, we briefly check in with the rest of the League. Everyone is freaking out at how quickly Machia is destroying the Liberation Army, and Compress calls Ujiko and frantically begs him to warp them all to safety. But Ujiko is all “nah” and says he wants to drive Tomura into a corner. Meanwhile Gigantomachia finally takes out Dairy Queen, since Dabi was doing fuckall, and the chapter ends with Tomura possibly killing Re-Destro?? To be honest it’s really unclear. For all I know the dude just dropped dead of a heart attack from all that stress. In fact, now that I’ve typed that, I kind of think that’s what did happen. Anyway! The point is I’m pretty sure the battle is finally over.

(All comments are my unspoiled reactions from my initial readthrough of the chapter. I did a quick edit for grammar and clarity immediately afterward, and added one or two ETAs in the process, but aside from that there are no changes.) 

so I mentioned this in an ask post a couple days ago, but this recap is a day late because I was out of town this week. consequently I’m behind on my asks and other things as well (I know, what else is new), so I’m sorry about that!

also! @temperatezone informed me that there’s yet another BnHA spinoff coming out, and that the preview chapter debuted last week! so I went to check it out, and holy shit, it’s a manga all about the U.A. kids teaming up with various pro heroes!!!!??!! between this and the new anime season coming up in just two months (it’ll fly by) and BakuDeku: Heroes Rising coming out in December, I feel like I’m being fucking spoiled with BnHA content. and I didn’t even mention the 2nd light novel which just had its official English translation released last month! so all in all it’s a lot of good stuff, and I desperately want to recap chapter 0 of the new spinoff as soon as possible, but it’ll probably be a few days unfortunately, unless I decide to be very irresponsible and do that instead of the piles of work I should actually be doing. we’ll see which impulses actually win out sob

fortunately Jump is on a break next week if I recall, so that’ll give me some time to catch up. anyway let’s start this thing before I manage to procrastinate anymore! so the new chapter is called “Liberation”, probably after a certain army

and the chapter is picking up where we left off before, with Tomura taking his Father Hand out of his pocket and saying he doesn’t need it or any of his other hands
