#maglor has a son au
sparklecryptid · 3 months
Note
In the Maglor-has-a-son 'verse, combined with both the cousins and the two OC daughters of Maglor 'verses you've come up with - well. It occurs to me that if you toss Celebrimbor in there, you have seven grandchildren of Feanor. (Seven grandchildren. Seven sons. The years roll and the wheel turns, and stories loves a pattern.)
Caladion does not expect to have more siblings. He does not expect for Ruiniel to toss him over her shoulder in front of all the other smiths and carrying out of the designated smithing area to plop him in front of two women and the rest of his cousins and he most certainly does not expect for one of the women in front of him to be silent.
The Song does not join in harmony. It slides off of the dark, curly haired woman in front of Caladion like water falling from a seals back.
It’s annoying. The Song shouldn’t act like that. Everything is a Song. Everything sings.
This woman doesn’t. It puzzles him. It puzzles the ghosts on either side of him. Caladion remains silent and listens.
The table is silent as Caladion and the two women seize each other up.
Caladion makes the first move. A single note breaks through the air and coaxes Song from the woman. She does not speak. The Music does not come from her lips but from her soul as it stumbles and falters and reaches a harmony with the Song around her.
“Oh,” Anordil says and that’s her name, that’s his sister, “What - Why is everything so loud?” She turns toward the silver haired woman with scars on her lips as if to ask for help. “Is it always like this?”
“Most of the time,” the silver haired woman agrees, “You get used to it.”
Anordil groans.
Saeleth can’t help but laugh.
“Aw shit,” she cackles and Huan boofs disapprovingly, “Caladion, what did you do!” Saeleth pauses for a moment and studies Anordil. “Wait I know you.”
“No you don’t,” Anordil’s response is immediate, “You know nothing.”
“You’re the one that brought that stupid mortals keep down around him!”
Calemir and Ruiniel share a look.
Celebrimbor turns his head to the sky and despairs.
Caladion sips his wine with his forge gloves still on.
The other woman - Caladion’s sister the Song swirls around her like a sheathed weapon - shakes her head.
“Was that the time you almost got married?”
“He tried to marry me,” Anordil corrects, “I said no.”
“Rather adamantly it seems,” Ruiniel crosses her arms across her chest as she speaks. She looks mildly impressed. No small feat considering who and what Ruiniel is.
“Linavron brought an entire city to ruin! I think I can get away with destroying a keep or two!”
The table turns their gaze toward Caladion’s other sister.
Linavron sips her wine delicately.
“It was a city of slavers and other such things,” Linavron says with no ounce of regret in her voice, “They deserved it.”
Ruiniel blinks as if several dots connected.
“That city in south-east - Mor - the rebellion that was sparked - that was you?”
Linavron looks Ruiniel in the eyes.
“It was needed.”
Ruiniel tosses her head back and laughs.
Linavron turns her attention to Celebrimbor who doesn’t look uncomfortable but wary.
“I won’t turn your city upside down,” Linarvon says. She pauses a moment before adding. “Unless you need me to.”
“Thanks for the offer,” Celebrimbor says dryly and he reminds Caladion of Curufin in that moment, “I’ll think about it.”
Calemir shakes his head.
“I’m too old for this.”
The table pauses and everyone’s attention shifts to the two women who joined them.
“Who has seniority?” Calemir asks innocently.
Neither of them are expecting Anordil and Linavron to share a look.
Linavron shrugs.
“I remember the Sun rising for the first time,” she offers, “I suppose that makes me the oldest after Lord Celebrimbor.”
“Just Celebrimbor,” the man in question corrects, “We’re family.”

So Celebrimbor "son of Curufin" exists on literally one single page in all of Tolkien's manuscripts (Christopher editorially added it to the Silm, in both the 'Of Beren and Luthien' chapter and 'Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age'), however "descendant of Feanor" is there for a couple years in a few places before Tolkien forgot and made Celebrimbor a Teler.
I am amusing myself by thinking about an alternative universe where Tolkien forgot the son of Curufin bit (a very passing thought) but remembered the descendant of Feanor part (which made it into the Appendices) and decided that Celebrimbor should instead be the son of Maglor.

The Sculptor in her Workshop, Unknown, Late Third Age, Tirion.
and
Tumblr media
The Return of the Lost Son, Unknown, Early Fourth Age, Tirion.
This is something of a companion piece to this Nerdanel character study (on AO3). In it, she sculpts her husband and sons as she feels them die across the sea, and she waits long ages for Maglor until he comes home.
(Makalaurë, standing still in the empty space that long awaited him, makes a better marble than live body.)
I think this is the most detailed piece I've ever done. I genuinely started it as "oh, I have a very vivid mind picture of this scene, I could do a little sketch!" and here I am about two weeks and 19 hours of painting later. I'm really proud of it, though.
Please reblog if you like it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
IDs (also in alt), details and more rambling under the cut.
[ID: Two digital paintings of the same room, a sculptor's workshop. In the first, Nerdanel, a light-skinned elf woman with long curly red hair, is working on an abstract sculpture in marble. Behind her are six marble life-sized statues: Fëanor, brandishing a gem, Maedhros, with one hand missing, arms partly crossed, and after a gap, Celegorm, kneeling down to hold Huan, Caranthir, reading a book, Curufin, forging a dagger on an anvil, his arm raised to hammer it, and Ambarussa, holding each other. On the foreground right is a large stab of marble waiting to be sculpted. The second painting has the same background with the workshop and statues, with a more reddish tint as if it's sunset. The abstract sculpture has now replaced the slab of stone and in the middle, Nerdanel is kneeling in front of Maglor, as light-skinned elf with very long dark hair, holding his hand, while she has her other hand on her mouth. She is crying. Maglor is standing in the gap between the statues of Maedhros and Celegorm. The other pictures are details of the first two.]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The statues in order: Fëanor, Maedhros, (Maglor), Celegorm&Huan, Caranthir, Curufin, Amrod and Amras. Feel free to zoom in, they are each pretty detailed.
This is the first time I've drawn any of the younger sons. I did Nerdanel and Fëanor, Maedhros, Maglor and Celegorm before, each in slightly different AUs, but desiging Caranthir, Curufin and Ambarussa was fun!
Maedhros is missing his hand and has scars, because while Nerdanel never saw it, Finrod came to tell her what he looked like after Angband. She first sculpted him with his hand, though, so I imagine taking a hammer to it must have been... a specific sort of pain.
Curufin is a mix of Fëanor and Celebrimbor, they all look like each other, but I headcanon that Fëanor was more thin and wiry (though still strong), while Curufin was a bit buffer, as he focused more on large works (weapons and infrastructure) than jewellery, and Celebrimbor who was a teen/young adult in the war put up more fat once in Ost-en-Edhil, after many years of privation.
I can never settle on Caranthir's craft/occupation, but it's something bookish. As for Ambarussa, I think Nerdanel just wanted to remember them as happy youths, rather than attach them to any activity.

Silm AU with the Feanorian death order reversed
I apologize in advance, but:
Maglor regrets the Oath and kinslaying on the voyage over. He stays aboard the ships, meaning to stow away back, but falls asleep (it's been a long day) and wakes up on fire. His brothers and father become aware of the situation when they hear the screams. Maglor's cries become a permanent echo in that area, much like Morgoth's at Lammoth.
Maedhros does not have the clearest head in the ensuing battle. He gets separated from the others and is beaten into the dust by balrogs. His family isn't even able to retrieve a body.
Feanor is very shaken and very mad. He doesn't parlay with Morgoth, not even for the Silmarils. He and his remaining people spread out across Beleriand and establish fortresses.
Things are chilly at best when the Helcaraxe group arrives thirty years later. Feanor does not yield the crown. The two groups don't fight, because Morgoth's a bigger problem, but they're not working together. Partially because Fingon refuses to speak to the Feanorians after he hears what happened to Maedhros, and Finrod won't even be near them after what they did to Maglor.
Feanor is very careful with his remaining sons.
Time goes on, the Bragollach occurs on schedule, and so does the Silmaril quest, except that C&C aren't in Nargothrond because of the Finrod-hating-them thing, so Celegorm never meets Luthien. She doesn't get Huan, but still manages just fine.
We do still eventually get to the point of "Silmaril at Doriath" + "no Girdle" + "stubborn Dior" = Second Kinslaying. But this time Celegorm's not grudge-fueled and Curufin's not having to cover for Huan and watch his back, and... Amrod and Amras die instead.
Elwing escapes to the Havens. Elured and Elurin aren't left to die, but Feanor has no interest in keeping around Sindar reminders of his dead sons. He has them sent away. (They don't know where Elwing and the Silmaril are, so ransom isn't an option.)
Then they do learn where the Silmaril is, at Sirion. They attack. Caranthir dies.
Curufin has been doing increasingly badly since Celebrimbor forswore him right before Doriath. Celegorm decides the solution is to pick up Elwing's twin sons and get Curufin to help parent them.
Feanor isn't thrilled, but he can't say no when he sees how Curufin latches on.
Love grows after between them, as little might be thought.
War of Wrath happens. Feanor keeps his tattered family out of it, but contributes weapon designs via courier. The Host uses said designs, because even if he's problematic they need this stuff.
Afterward, the claiming and theft of the Silmarils proceeds. Curufin sends the twins to Celebrimbor to preempt another rejection.
He's hollow, disillusioned, attacking the camp. The guards don't have to work very hard to kill him.
Feanor and Celegorm escape. The Silmarils burn them. Celegorm starts laughing and laughing and can't stop, and backs away...right into a chasm of fire.
Feanor flings the Silmarils after him, hating the things he chased so long at the cost of his sons, and staggers to the shore as the sea encroaches.
No one knows what happens to him.

Modern AU: DILF! Maglor
SFW and NSFW Headcanons
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A/N: Once again, I have returned with my modern AU headcanons after so long. I’ve promised you all DILF headcanons for Maglor after it won the poll from last year. Sorry for the long wait. Do enjoy!
Warnings: female reader, pregnancy, breeding, lactation kink
➽ Modern AU Series
Tumblr media
SFW
⊰ DILF! Maglor who…has adopted two children, Elrond and Elros and lives in a small-town neighbourhood. Despite his age, he has the most youthful-looking appearance that has all the mothers fawning over him every time he drops his sons off at school. He has a few grey streaks in his hair, but people tend to brush it off as his natural hair colour and not a sign of his ageing.
⊰ DILF! Maglor who…catches your eye one day at the supermarket while he’s out buying groceries for his kids. It was Elros who ran off in the middle of shopping and allowed Maglor to bump into you. He was kind enough to pay for your few items.
⊰ DILF! Maglor who…finds you cute and when he discovers that you live within the neighbourhood, uses his sons as a means to get you to talk to him since he was nervous in the beginning. When he gains the confidence, he’ll make regular trips to your home and spend the evening cooking and teaching you tips.
⊰ DILF! Maglor who… invites you over for Sunday lunches so you and the twins can bond in the kitchen as you assist them with cooking. He’ll stand in the doorway and observe how perfect you look interacting with his sons, and can’t help himself from thinking how lovely you were for him.
⊰ DILF! Maglor who…loves to bring you with him in the mornings whenever he’s dropping off the twins just to make all the other parents jealous. He’ll pull you in for a side hug and swoop in for a peck to make everyone get the hint that he’s taken and you all are a family.
⊰ DILF! Maglor who…spends his time off taking all four of you on family-oriented holidays and shows everyone who’s ogling him that he’s taken by the most beautiful partner in the world. He loves to give you tons of kisses and then laugh whenever Elrond and Elros scream ‘ew’ or ‘yuck’.
DILF! Maglor who…smiles brilliantly the first time he hears Elrond and Elros address you as mother/mummy. It was a dream come through and all that he needed to commence the final act…put a ring on your finger and make you his wifey.
NSFW
⊰ DILF! Maglor who…pulls you into the backseat of the car after he dropped his sons off at school for a quick fuck because you two were interrupted this morning by the twins. Everything is sweaty and hot as he folds you into some challenging position to suit the cramped spacing. It becomes a ritual whenever you both have to drop them off at school or pick them up.
⊰ DILF! Maglor who…finds the most obscure places to have quickies because the twins are so attached to you, they never wish to give you a break and leave you alone for a second. Sometimes early in the morning as you’re making breakfast, in the shower or in the cabinet when the twins are out of sight…for five minutes.
⊰ DILF! Maglor who…takes you to neighbourhood parties the other mothers are hosting to rub it in their faces that there’s no way they can fit themselves in between you two by sneaking away for a quick session in the washroom and hoping that the others hear.
⊰ DILF! Maglor who…reads up on lots of medical books for pregnancies because he’s been wanting another child to care for and who else could be more perfect than you to bare his next baby. He ensures that you’re eating right and he’s fucking you enough times a week to increase the chances of impregnation.
⊰ DILF! Maglor who…loves to rub your stomach every session and whisper about how you’ll look lovely with a round belly and carrying his child. He praises you all the time to reassure you of any doubt you’re having as he folds you into a deeper mating press before releasing himself into you. Makes you keep his cum in you longer than usual for certainty.
⊰ DILF! Maglor who… is thrilled to learn that you’re pregnant and shares the news with his sons before having a little family celebration. He’ll take you all out for ice cream and let the twins eat as much as they want because he knows it’ll put them to sleep so you and he can celebrate in private back home.
⊰ DILF! Maglor who…keeps you active throughout your pregnancy because he’s gravitated towards your belly and how you’re glowing. It’s worse when he observes how the twins constantly surround you, rubbing your growing belly, and talking to their sibling.
⊰ DILF! Maglor who…has grown an affinity for your breasts now that they’re all swollen with milk and will massage and squeeze them for you anytime they’re hurting. However, once the baby is born, he finds a way to become useful anytime your breasts leak. Lactation kink unlocked. He adores how plump your breasts have become.
⊰ DILF! Maglor who…is blessed for the new addition to his little family and is grateful for having you in his children and his life.

What if/ headcanon things
Been running around The Hobbit/LOTR tags for awhile so i'm still learning lore and things. Recently gotten hooked to The Silmarillion side and after thinking about Gondolin Erestor, random thoughts of Feanorian Erestor/ Erestor Caranthirion got me thinking so what ifs: 1) Fili and Kili actually met Maglor and saves him from fading/despair on one of their work trips.Until Erestor, on one of his trips to seek out Elrond's father, finally locates Maglor with their help. Watch the drama unfold later in the Hobbit when Glorfindel&Erestor returns to Imladris to find the vegan feast and the chief councillor's surprise to find the young dwarrow he met are princes. They catch up and talks about Maglor until Erestor notices something off. Like, dear Valar, Lindir, is the kitchen slow today in bringing out the food, why is it all just salads? Quietly with a raised brow in wonder to dear Lord Elrond? They helped your Atya, why are we not being a better host? The rest of the company are now looking at Fili and Kili for answers, with the Great Stare from their uncle. Whereas Bilbo and Gandalf are on the side watching the drama. Glorfindel gets emotional seeing the swords from Gondolin, especially his dear friend's and King's.And the dwarrows are intrigue with the balrog slayer and his mate casually giving pleasantries in Kuzdul though with an old accent. will this change the hobbit's plot? maybe idk
small ficlet for this AU here
2) Elrond sails and upon arrival on the Western shores (after elf-napping his foster father) He is reunited with his parents & Celebrian and spots Maedhros and his brothers and Celebrimbor beyond the docks. Before he can even reach out to his other father, Carathir swoops in and is brokenly asking where is his "lil owlet". Elrond is confused until Maedhros wrangles his emotional brother and clarifies to the stunned group that he meant Erestor. "Oh?Erestor? He is staying for his belated honeymoon. He just bonded and-""WITH WHO??!THE TAPESTRY DIDN'T SHOW THAT!?" "Was a lil impromptu really. But they couldn't wait and Glorfindel-"LAUREFINDIL??" Caranthir and the rest of the Feanorians turn to Glorfindel's side of the family and both side stares.Until Carathir storms off to confirm the tapestries again.
Into the Fourth Age, when the couple finally arrives: Carathir: How could you get married without a family's blessing?! Erestor: Like I could?! Besides I had my cousin!*gestures to Elrond* and my uncle!*gestures to Maglor sneaking away* Carathir: WTF Erestor: Besides, YOU didn't marry with your family's blessing! everyone else:...
Ambarussa: he has a point brother
Carathir: *losing his mind*Laurefindil is too old for you!
Erestor: YOU were too old for amil!
Celegorm: oof
Carathir: *seething and struggling* I can't argue with that why can't I argue with that?? Maedhros: hello Laurefindil, welcome to the family. Glorfindel:...
Ecthelion and Egalmoth meanwhile are laughing their asses off. Elrond and his sons as well.

For @maedhrosmaglorweek Day 6, an AU that fixes nothing and makes everything worse (sorry)
****
“…but less evil shall we do in the breaking.”
Maglor knows his argument has been lost. Still, one final plea is cast upon the night’s wind:
“Please.”
But Maedhros does not stop, nor look back. He only answers, “I need you.”
Maglor swallows back a response. His brother has seen the Darkness. He carries a piece of it with him. It usually lies just beneath the surface, under his control; lately it has shown itself more frequently, more fiercely than ever.
And Maglor understands. He pities him, defends him, loves him. He always has. But he can no longer follow him. It pains him to think it and now to speak it, and it only comes forth with every bit of courage and strength he can muster.
“I cannot do it.”
He collapses to the ground, weeping. His cries are not deep and piercing like his singing, but weak and pitiful, barely registering in the silence.
Maedhros turns to him with a fiery stare. Maglor recoils from this wretched, familiar flame. He has seen it many times; it takes them all, eventually.
“You are bound by our oath. Our brothers died for this.” His voice is powerful yet empty.
“Then let me fail, as I failed to save them.” Maglor chokes over these words; he will never forgive himself for it, even though they were doomed to their fates. “I am ready to face judgment. I want to go back.”
When he feels the blade press against his neck, Maglor knows his brother is gone. The madness has finally claimed him, and soon he too may become no more than ash in the wind.
“Please, Nelyo,” he shivers. He thinks briefly of their father and shakes the memories away. Then he recalls the boys he raised as sons; how he loved them and sent them out into the world with everything he could teach them, sent them far away from his weary heart. That is how he saved them. But saving Maedhros may be beyond Maglor’s power.
Maedhros lowers his sword and stands completely still, save for the rise and fall of his broad chest. His eyes are ablaze. And empty.
“Nelyo, you are broken, we are broken. Nothing may mend you now but I love you still. Come with me, or let me go. I beg you.”
He reaches out to touch him, to graze his scarred cheek or smooth back his hair, which has grown wild during their roaming. But Maedhros pulls away in agony, as if his brother’s hand is a torch.
“It will be over soon. We shall end this! Together.”
“No, please no! Come back to me, Nelyo!” Maglor fears the madness will overcome him now too. He wishes for it to come quickly; perhaps this would be easier if he had already lost his mind. He lets out a wail and leaps at his brother. He grabs for his once fine cloak, now weather worn and ragged, a last desperate effort to shake sense into him, or hold him or…
It is a mistake, for Maedhros has quick reflexes and the flame sparks and overtakes him. A flash of silver, a flash of red.
And now it is too late to save either of them.
Although it takes no time for Maglor to fall, it feels like centuries. An indescribable sound escapes Maedhros, like a terrible roar, deeper than the ocean and darker than the Void.
Maglor realizes he is dying and it is a strange relief. His mouth moves quickly, silently, one last song upon his lips.
“Thank you.”
His eyes open wide and catch their final sight: his brother, his Nelyo as he once was. Maglor had pitied him, defended him, loved him. He always had.
“I never meant to hurt you. Some peace for you now, I hope.” Maedhros holds him and sobs and it feels like centuries.
“But no peace do I deserve. Now you will meet your judgment, and I shall never face mine.”

End of the Year Fic Rec
I was tagged by @echo-bleu and @dreamingthroughthenoise and it was very difficult to select only five fics for each category but here's my Must Read fanfics list, mostly Silmarillion but with a few LotR and one Hobbit. Also, I cheated at some point so you have one more fic rec as a treat
Recommend up to 5 series or multi-chapter fics from 2023 that everyone should read (multi-year WIPs count, if the last update was in 2023).
We will make this place our home by @leucisticpuffin
Summary: Elrond and Elros are sent to live with their distant cousins in a house that is crumbling slowly to pieces. They aren't especially happy about this. For Maedhros and Maglor, the twins are a rare chance to start living again.
Why you should read it: This is a whimsical, heartwarming yet bittersweet at times story about finding one’s place in a new world and what makes a family, grappling with the ghosts of the past and the pain of being a child left behind. Also the most exquisitely written modern AU (the style is just chef's kiss!) I’ve read so far, 100% recommend it!
Maglor is an Eldritch Horror by @thescrapwitch
Summary: After thousands of years singing to the sea, Maglor has become something strange and terrifying. But he still loves his family, and his family still loves him.
Why you should read it: Sometimes, family is a Half-Elf, his wife, their children, a shy and whimsical bard and the Eldritch kidnap grandfather who haunts the house; or how to write slightly creepy fluff. This series is pure heartwarming material and giving Elrond the happiness he desserves.
The Day the Horse-Lord wed the Lady of the Seas by @colinnoahmayhare (rated M)
Summary: After the War of the Ring, Lothíriel, Princess of Dol Amroth, finds herself at the receiving end of the search for peace and prosperity by being used as a pawn in an alliance made between kings and princes. Married to the King of the Riddermark, Éomer, she has to navigate being a foreigner in a foreign country, being a Queen to a King, and to learn to live and love with a man she hardly knows.
Why you should read it: This story is an intricate, gut wrenching exploration of what happens in Rohan after the War of the Ring, featuring delightful worldbuilding, lots of politics, revenge and honour. Now with Familial TraumaTM and Couple AngstTM for extra flavour!
And the Stars Shine the Same by @runawaymun (rated M)
Summary: After the Éothéod revolt against the Wainriders, the northern tribes seek to form strong alliances with their neighbors. Lord Frumgar tasks his son Fram to lead the delegation to Imladris. With him, he brings gold, fine horses, and two young thralls chosen by his father to be given to Lord Elrond himself. Elrond is conflicted to say the least.
Why you should read it: Do you like pre-canon Third Age history? Do you like worldbuilding about a few names from the Appendixes of LotR? Do you like found family and Good Dad Elrond? Do you like complex characters learning how to live with their traumas? This story is for you! (Just mind the warnings in the tags)
The ghost you dress up as (knows how to haunt) by @deadqueernoldor (rated M)
Summary: Maedhros was not the first Finwëan to be captured and taken to Angband, nor did he remain there the longest. Ranyatinwë, twin of Caranthir, was the first.
Why you should read it: Tinwë is such a complex character, 50% spite and 50% trauma, and this whole story is so, so promising already! (Really, you should read all the Strength of our Bonds series for extra unhinged, spiteful and unrepentant kinslayer Tinwë. I support women’s rights but in Tinwë’s case I firmly support women’s wrongs). This is pure post-Angband angstfest and dysfunctional siblings caring for each other in their weird way. If angst can be a comfort story, I found it.
Recommend up to 5 single chapter fics/one-shots (long or short) from 2023 that everyone should read.
Life in Miniature by @thescrapwitch
Summary: Turgon uses his hobby of building cities to recreate Gondolin, this time on a much smaller scale.
Why you should read it: For re-embodied Finwëan rebuilding their relationships as they work together on a miniature city; a heartwarming and really nice metaphor.
Hearth Fire by @dreamingthroughthenoise
Summary: Findis and Feanor speak before the Flight of the Noldor and share in their grief the best they can.
Why you should read it: Because there are so few stories centered around Findis and her feelings about her family and this one is so interesting and well written. Also, Findis is my Blorbo and everyone should read about her until they're consumed by the Blorbo.
your veins are empty of dust by @echo-bleu
Summary: Anairë finds her late one day in her workshop, surrounded by slabs of stone larger than her. Nerdanel is hammering forcefully at one of them, the barest hints of an elven shape already taking form in the marble. Bitter, stinging tears run down her cheeks and into her collar, and her arms ache with exhaustion.
The body is only barely sketched, but the face is already chiselled, smooth curves and angular cheekbones.
Fëanáro emerges out of the marble, looking like he’s about to take life.
Why you should read it: For a heartbreaking dive into Nerdanel's grief, her friendship with Anairë and how Nerdanel's art becomes her way to cope with loneliness and grief.
see it fall, child of war by @swanmaids
Summary: Elwing's time runs out.
Why you should read it: Because these may be the 740 most impactful words I've read about Elwing since I discovered the Silm fandom.
soldier keep on marching on (waiting on that morning sun) by songofswiftsunrise
Summary: Boromir lives. The world is the smallest bit brighter for it.
Why you should read it: Do I need a more convincing argument than what the summary says? Boromir lives and everyone is happier. I love a good fix-it and this one is very well written indeed.
Recommend up to 5 fics NOT from 2023 that everyone should read (oldies but goodies.)
The Carpenter’s Son by Zimra (rated M, warning for rape/non-con)
Summary: An untold story of conquered Dor-lómin, in which an Easterling carpenter has a child by his Hadorian slave.
Why you should read it: This story explores in a very interesting way a par of canon that is almost never mentionned (except in the Narn). The main character is attaching and I really cared for her and her son. The hindsights in the slavers' minds are chilling with their realism and this whole story is just so well written. Also, it ends on a note of hope.
And what I am needs no excuses by aurembiaux
Summary: Sam has always been in love with Frodo. It's only that it takes him forty years to realize that he is.
Why you should read it: Probably the most heartwarming and relatable self-discovery story I’ve ever read; set in England from the WWII to the 80’s, with all the social changes that happened in this time period. Featuring Supportive Dad (and Friend) Sam as the main character and a whole bunch of introspection. One of my all time comfort read!
Mark of a Warrior by starryeyedknight
Summary: After the funeral for Theoden, Merry wakes up to a problem experienced by many a young man after a night of heavy drinking. The ink on his arm doesn't appear to be washing off…
Why you should read it: This one shot explores the relationships Merry formed with the RIders of Rohan, the grief he has in common with them and how he found his place amongst the riders, all of this with delightful humour and lightness despite the initial situation.
Dancing with my punchlines by LiveOakWithMoss (rated M)
Summary: In which the sons of Fëanor throw house parties, the beer is terrible, 20-something hipster elves act like their drama is as bad as it is in canon, and macking on cousins is fair game.
Why you should read it: If you like a good old modern AU with tons of drama of various sorts, amazing ace representation and general Finwëans shenanigans, this is the story for you.
Old Maggie Took by @deadqueernoldor
Summary: The headcanon about Maglor, second son of Fëanor, lives hidden in the Shire? Yes.
Why you should read it: My ultimate comfort read series; featuring mouth-watering descriptions of food, kidnadopted fam and Maglor being an overgrown hobbit and trolling everyone in ME and Valinor. This is fluffy, this is silly, this is prefect.
Recommend up to 5 of your own fics (completed or WIP) from 2023 that everyone should read.
Dreams of Doom (rated M, warning for Major Character Death)
Summary: “She runs in the dark, alone. Where her feet carry her, she knows not, and her heart is heavy with dread. Someone - something - is watching her.”
Niënor from the moment she arrives in Brethil to her death.
Why you should read it: Because this fic is my firsborn child and I am insanely proud of it, especially since I went so out of my comfort zone to write it. It features two of my obscure blorbos and I poured my soul into it.
Ice Age(s)
Summary: Ice skating through the ages, from Idril learning with her grandfather to Elrond perpetuating the familial tradition.
Why you should read it: This is a fluffy fic, mostly, and it's also a gift for the amazing @echo-bleu. I also wrote it in a sort of trance in the middle of the night, passed out the moment I posted it and had no memory whatsoever of what I had written upon waking up in the morning, yet I still love this fic dearly.
I never wanted to walk in your steps
Summary: Tilda was ten, the same age Sigrid was at her birth, and her world was collapsing more than when Smaug had destroyed Laketown.
Why you should read it: Because I privately call this fic Hobbit angstfest. I took a sad, doomed ship and asked myself "how can I make it sadder?"
ar ámen apsenë úcaremmar
Summary: Few know of Findis the Faithful, eldest daughter of Finwë, who never lost hope for her family.
Why you should read it: I took my obscure blorbo and set her in a medieval-ish AU. It's sad and a little hopeful too and there's a lot of Quenya interspaced through the story.
Quiet morning in Gondolin
Summary: Idril and Eärendil spend some time together before the city wakes up.
Why you should read it: I'll put the link to the beautiful art that inspired this ficlet and let it speak for me.
And I tag everyone I tagged in this post who hasn’t already done this fics rec tag

Of firstborns and births.
Fëanor : How did you feel when your first child came into the world?
Maedhros : There were many feelings at the same time. Joy, fear, panic, gratitude, it was too much to process, Artanáro left me speechless since I saw him for the first time, he was too small, more than we expected, however, he was the most beautiful jewel I have ever seen, under Findekáno's words, the baby seemed to be a star itself; and I couldn't agree more with that. While I had seen many babies born up to that point, Ereinion was the most perfect of them all. I felt I could duel Morgoth for him alone, he was the piece I needed to feel alive again.
Maglor : I wanted to cry, correction, I cried too much when I saw it; I was really scared about it. Daeron had not had a really nice pregnancy, and we were afraid that the delivery would be similar. However, thanks to Queen Melian, everything went well. When I finally carried him in my arms, my heart seemed to burst, I am not able to explain how I felt, only that my Lindir was more harmonious than any melody ever played, much more beautiful than Ainulindalë itself. He is magnificence itself, so majestic that many would be humbled to stand in his presence.
Celegorm : Eluréd and Elurín were a blessing from Oromë and Vána, a very unexpected one. I'm not going to lie, when I saw Eluréd it really bothered me not to think that he was the most beautiful baby in middle earth, you know those parents who say their babies were pure beauty, well, I was not one of those, Eluréd and Elurín were not exactly graceful when they were born, they were covered with blood and amniotic fluid, but they were very healthy, that was the important thing, although I can't say I didn't feel joy, they gave me back a part of me that I considered lost.
Caranthir : I must confess that after holding Artaresto already cleaned up, I couldn't help but curse Angaráto's genes. However, I can't deny that the little blonde hair on his little head was lovely. It was really unexpected to see that his cheeks had a tone similar to sweet apples, that made me fall in love with him, I longed too much to put my fingers on his face, I couldn't believe that he was really mine, he was too ethereal, although he was also a fussy baby, a true prince of the Noldor, if you ask me; it was inevitable not to feel proud of him, his mere existence did that.
Curufin : The phrase "You never love anything in the world as much as you love your first child" made sense when Telperinquar was in my arms; although in my heart I vowed to protect him from the moment I began to nourish his Fëa with my own. I know what I felt, a deep love for him, as well as a need for devotion. He was my greatest creation, nothing else I did in the forge compares to him, and even the Silmarils are nothing compared to my son, as I held him, I was aware that I would do the impossible to preserve his innocence, I was sure that he would bring out the best and the worst in me.
°•°
Headcanon's extra :
Daeron is an offspring of Thingol and Melian. Consequently, she has Maia ancestry and thanks to this she was able to father a child with Maglor. (In my AU she is a trans elleth.)
Vána and Oromë blessed Celegorm so that he could have the twins; Dior was puzzled.
Caranthir is trans and Curufin is trans non-binary.
Fëanorian Orodreth!
The other parents of the children :
– Findekáno.
– Daeron.
– Dior.
– Angaráto.
– Findaráto (¿?)

you know i can't resist! Caretaker burnout notes for the ask game please? If that's taken already, the Curvo roleswap......<33
(WIP titles ask game) I answered the caretaker burnout notes here! <3
The Curvo Maglor roleswap is a fill for the Silmarillion Kinkmeme, an AU in which Maglor dies in the Second Kinslaying and Curufin survives. Nobody is particularly happy about this turn of events, so far.
This is another WIP that is still in its early stages, but here's a (rather rough) snippet:
It is Lúthien’s fault, Curufin reminds himself. Lúthien and Dior her shadow-puppet, working her will in the world long after she herself has fled it: and although the boy is slain Lúthien’s line lingers yet, for they did not find the girl-child, Dior’s youngest. Lúthien took Curufin’s son from him, and now Dior has claimed his brother — how much more will they take from him? Maedhros laughs, the one time he expresses this sentiment. “Tyelko got himself killed,” he says, “with his blind and foolish recklessness — and I did not stop him — and now—” His face goes white. He gets up suddenly from the dining table and leaves, and does not emerge from his rooms for another week. In truth Maedhros is going mad. That was the most Curufin had heard him speak in months; when he sits in company he will more often stare blankly at the wall, his eyes hollow, his lips half-parted. Sometimes he turns his head and looks very intently at something that is not there. Curufin has found him wandering the grounds outside the fortress, half-dressed, more than once.

those towers we built
Alright, so the (very AU) concept I've been toying with for a bit is this: the Valar, fundamentally misunderstanding the nature of elves and the concepts of consent and self-determination, after beating Morgoth and getting the Silmarils back, decide to just... erase the war.
Like, Ëonwë doesn't let Maedhros and Maglor go, instead fights them, they drop the Silmarils when they get burned and run (and still kill themselves/end up wandering). Everyone goes back to Aman, Yavanna restores the Trees, and the Valar, who don't understand the nature of trauma, decide that the best way to heal everyone is to just erase their memories of what happened. Námo agrees to release everyone who died (short of Finwë and Fëanor) and everyone's memories of everything from the Darkening forward is removed.
The Valar kind of suggest a version of events (Morgoth killed Finwë, Ungoliant ate the trees, there was a fight, but Morgoth was captured and Fëanor sacrificed the Silmarils and himself to remake the trees) and lets the Song run from there. The Noldor naturally take Maedhros as their king, and he has no reason to abdicate.
Eärendil, who doesn't have a star to sail with, is the only one whose memories weren't removed, and he's tasked with watching the seas, so no one can sail between Middle Earth and Valinor. In Middle Earth, everything is going as programmed, with Maglor and Galadriel among the only Exiles remaining. Their family thinks them dead in the Darkening and not ready to come back.
Of course, the issue with all that is that erasing memory doesn't erase trauma, and none of the re-embodied elves were actually ready to be re-embodied. Everyone's memories are kind of vague, but the suggestive power of the Valar is strong enough that they're not exactly questioning anything. They have the strangest triggers and nightmares. It's especially noticeable with the Exiles who were very young, or those actually born in Middle Earth, like Maeglin, who straight up doesn't remember his former life.
There's a general uneasiness that no-one can quite put a name to, and they ascribe it to Arda Marred. More people are re-embodied with no or confusing memories -- Gil-galad, Celebrimbor.
And then one day in Middle Earth, Elrond, watching his wife start to fade, prays loud enough that his father hears it. And Eärendil, fed up with the charade and deciding that he'll show up for his son the way he couldn't before, sails with his daughter-in-law to Aman.
Celebrían's memories and knowledge of the First Age are veiled on the way, but things have already started to unravel, and the mismatches are becoming glaringly evident. King Nelyafinwë Maitimo is no fool, and neither are his Consort Findekáno or his First Advisor Ingoldo. It might take them another five hundred years, but they'll get to the bottom of this mystery, and find the missing members of their family in the process.
Only the truth may prove to be much harder to bear than the lie they've been fed for six thousand years.

Some random headcanons I have for a Silm modern AU:
Feanor is the son of Finwe's ex-wife Miriel (they split more or less amicably due to the more kids/no more kids thing). There are more resources to help deal with this than in canon Valinor, so while Feanor isn't happy about the Indis and half-siblings situation, he's able to get to a place of mostly getting along with them.
Finwe made his money in investments--Aule Industries, Elentari Electric Co., Sulimo Aerospace...you get the picture.
Feanor could have gone to work for Aule Industries, but instead he struck out on his own as an inventor, and holds patents for several now-common items.
He's married to the famous sculptor Nerdanel. They've had their disagreements, but they're in couples therapy and working on sticking together.
Fingolfin is a state-level politician. He and Feanor mostly sort of get along provided everyone avoids certain topics.
Maedhros works for Fingolfin as a political fixer, which he is very very good at. Feanor has mostly made his peace with this.
Maglor went through a classical musical education, but eventually his hobby band Noldolante took off to the point that he went full-time with it. He's the lead vocalist and songwriter. Currently thinking their sound would be something like heavy metal but with the instruments and volume of acoustic folk.
Their musical rivals are the folk duo Nightingale Shadow, the brother-sister pair Daeron and Luthien Gray.
Celegorm got a job through his grandfather's friend Orome Aldaron at Aldaron LLC, an outdoor gear company resembling Cabela's, as a spokesperson/sponsored rep type of thing. He has a huge dog and tells a different story every time someone asks where he got him, and keeps trying to ask out Luthien from Nightingale Shadow (which drives Maglor nuts).
Caranthir is a stocks trader and financial advisor, which has made him wealthy enough on his own to rival Finwe. At some point, he announces his engagement (despite no one in the family knowing he was dating) to a small business owner named Haleth who takes none of his guff.
Curufin works with his father as a fellow inventor. He married an epidemiologist several years back, and they have a small son, Tyelpe, who is already being brought to an unbelievable number of "take your child to work" days. Everyone's bracing for the mad science to reach critical mass once Tyelpe's old enough to wield a screwdriver.
Amrod and Amras are still in high school and haven't confirmed a path in life yet, although they do quite a bit of Celegorm's social media stuff with him.
Fingon used to work with his father and Maedhros, but eventually decided that politics wasn't for him, and now runs a nonprofit to aid disaster victims. He and Maedhros frequently tease each other about how exhausted their respective careers are making them.
Turgon works in some capacity for the city government, which he claims is the level of politics where things actually get done.
Aredhel also works for Aldaron LLC as a spokesperson; sometimes she and Celegorm will collaborate on posts.
At some point, she starts a relationship with a guy named Eol, but leaves him when he turns out to be a controlling jerk. Post-breakup, she finds out she's pregnant, and ends up keeping the baby because Eol doesn't want her to do so and make him pay child support. She turns out a better mom than anyone expects.
Finarfin is some kind of lawyer working in conflict resolution and mediation. He is very good at it; he ought to be, given all the practice he's had.
Finrod owns an ethically sourced jewelry company. His brother Orodreth works for him.
Aegnor and Angrod are college students; Angrod is undeclared, but Aegnor is studying anthropology.
Artanis is in high school and the most politically minded teenager ever. She's in student government and on the debate team and Model UN, you name it. The family used to joke that someday she was going to rule a small country. They still say it, but it's become less and less of a joke over the years.

hello! you mentioned before how Maereth is a descendant of one of Feanor's sons but you haven't revealed it yet and no one has guessed it yet either
in a spur of the moment (and adrenaline from lack of sleep and too much work) 🤣 i would like to take a guess... is it Maglor? I did some searching and it seems he is the only one among the sons to have been married and live long enough for Maereth be born around 553 years of the sun (based on the end notes of last chapter, greenleaf's day out)
(I hope I spelled the names correctly 😅)
I know this reply is a bit late, my Anon friend, but you have to believe me that I was MASSIVELY EXCITED so receive your message! I haven't been in a huge rush to make a big reveal about Elvenqueen Maereth, though a couple of other friends have shown interest in her "hidden identity". But it's been a year since I first started writing about her, and you are the first one to come forward with a guess about her lineage.
YOU ARE CORRECT! Mostly. Queen Maereth, beloved wife of Elvenking Thranduil, comes from the line of Fëanor through his second son, Maglor. But Maglor is not Maereth's father, but rather her maternal grandfather.
From her father's side, Maereth is actually half-Teleri, and is the granddaughter of another renowned elf-lord, Círdan! (In the SotWK AU, Círdan wed one of the granddaughters of Olwë, a Falmari who had done the unthinkable and crossed the Helcaraxë, following her cousin Galadriel.)
Ever wonder how Legolas (seemingly randomly) turned out to be a shipwright in the Fourth Age? There is your headcanon explanation. It's in his blood!
This also means the last ruler of Eryn Lasgalen, Thranduil's grandson and heir, Aranion, son of Mirion, carries the blood of all three groups of Calaquendi. (He has Vanyar blood from his mother, Itarildë.) Just one of my favorite bits of SotWK HC lore.
I would have to make a very long post (or several) to fully explain the lineage of Maereth. That's quite a project that will take some time. So for now, please enjoy the quick summary of her ancestry, along with my fancast for the OC and canon characters. <3

russingon enchanted au that i won't be writing (some free realestate for y'all)
ver. 1.
modern earth Maedhros, heir to his father's tech and/or high-end jewellery company and is already doing all the work of a CEO ('cos Feanor only cares about working in R&D)
then there is fairytale prince Fingon getting himself portalled into the modern world by probably Sauron, and falling into Maedhros' lap (metaphorically or literally)
thus optimistic black-and-white world view Fingon learns about a more realistic grey morality from Maedhros, while overly stressed Maedhros learns to relax and find joy in life thanks to Fingon
also Fingon randomly bursts into song when he has big emotions or deep thoughts. one time he initiated an impromptu flash mob in the middle of a mall and Maedhros is both hoplessly fond and incredibly mortified. Maglor once witnessed one of Fingon's musical numbers and was absolutely delighted and "Maedhros, you better keep your new boyfriend or I'm gonna whack you with my flute"
ver. 2.
modern earth son of a politician Fingon meets tortured hero Maedhros from a greek/shakespearean tragedy
more angst hurt/comfort vibes than ver. 1. i know
Fingon shows Maedhros the beauty and good in the world while figuring out what he wants to be in life. Maedhros finds healing and is able to help Fingon with his father's political conundrums
both can include:
- humorous situations regarding modern electric appliances
- songs of power do weird shit in the modern world
- plot thing with Sauron/Morgoth following the hero into the modern world

My 2023 Fic List
I posted 78,856 words this year! It might not seem much, but it's a record for me. So here's the list of my 2023 works sorted by date.
Four Ficlets
Written for the SWG server's instadrabbling challenge - Elwing and Idril's First Meeting (124 words, G), Elwing and the Silmaril (76 words, T), Gil-galad and Cirdan Clean Up After the Kinslaying (228 words, T), Ancalagon's Death (106 words, G)
Gifts and Favors and a Trip (3560 words, M, Maedhros/Fingon)
My 2023 entry for My Slashy Valentine. A bit of angst, a bit of sexual tension, lots of fluff and a great deal of pining. Idiots to lovers.
Angsty Ficlet (792 words, G, Maedhros & Maglor)
Maedhros wakes up in the middle of the night, panicking for reasons unknown to himself. Maglor helps. An angsty ficlet with a little twist in the end.
Alone in the Unknown (4752 words, T, Maedhros & Maglor)
The latest part of my canon divergence AU. Maglor and Maedhros wander all alone - Maedhros nearly catatonic and Maglor trying in vain to reach him. The angstiest thing I've ever written.
Helcaraxë Cannibalism Ficlet (500 words, T, warning for cannibalism and character death)
Fingon doesn't want his body to be consumed after his death.
Maiar Hate This Simple Trick (2234 words, T, background Celebrimbor/Narvi and Galadriel/Celeborn)
My entry for Tolkien Remix 2023 is based on @elentarial's Desperation and Defeat. A series of letters between the main figures of the Second Age, trying to solve the mystery of Annatar running away from Eregion. Humor.
Proxy (5912 words, E, Maedhros/Fingon, Maedhros/Maglor, warning for dubious consent and unhealthy relationships)
Maedhros's love for Maglor is unrequited, but luckily for Maedhros, Fingon is hopelessly in love with him and somewhat resembles Maglor. A terrible love triangle between three terrible people. A deviation from my usual themes and characterization (and ratings), but the prompt in the kinkmeme spoke to me. I wrote almost 6k in a couple of days, which is a rarity for me.
Orodreth's Letter to Fingon (307 words, G)
Orodreth does everything he can to eviscerate Fingon in his letter of refusal concerning the Union of Maedhros.
Maedhros and Fingon Talk Cannibalism (247 words, T, warning for cannibalism and self-cannibalism mentions)
Another cannibalism snippet ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Maedhros and Fingon share their experiences with the subject in a light-hearted tone a little inappropriate for the discussion.
Lady Makalaurë Fëanáriel Dying of Poison, Late Second Age, Artist Unknown (8671 words, T, past fem!Maglor/Maglor's wife, warning for death and suicide mentions)
One of my two fics for TRSB 2023. Based on @independence1776's edit. In her space wanderings, fem!Maglor comes across a planet and finds out things that force her to return to Eldarin civilization. I always wanted to write a sci-fi AU, and I'm really glad I got to do it.
Now a Quill, Now a Sword (11817 words, T, Maedhros/Fingon, warning for character death and implied suicide)
My second TRSB fic, written in collaboration with @melestasflight. See their beautiful art here. It's a canon-compliant fic (with a bit of post-canon at the end) that tells the story of Maedhros and Fingon's relationship from the beginning to the end.
Two Ficlets
In this one (735 words, T), Fingolfin and Fingon discuss if Maedhros can be trusted. In it's companion (1082 words, T), Fingon and Maedhros talk about the same subject.
The Hunters (2016 words, E, fem!Maedhros/Aredhel)
Another kinkmeme fill. Baby's first PWP. (Proxy doesn't count. It has a plot and I tried to make the sex horrible.) Aredhel and Maedhros - two princesses of the House of Finwë - are cousins with benefits. I really enjoyed writing it, but I don't know if it's any good because I haven't reread it since posting.
Kaleidoscope (1436 words, M, Fingon/Sons of Feanor - all of them but not at the same time except Amrod and Amras)
Inspired by @melestasflight and @polutrope's The Seven Trials of Fingon the Valiant but darker in tone. Fingon sleeps with all of the sons of Fëanor. Why? Who knows? Up to interpretation. The fic doesn't make much sense, but I still like it and I'm really glad I wrote it. The third kinkememe fill.
That's all for last year. In general, I'm more happy than not with my writing. Hopefully, it will continue this year.
Thanks to every single person who's read, liked, reblogged, left kudos and comments on my fics. You make me want to keep writing.
