dune part 2 really is one of those films where everyone is like "this is the best thing ever" and you're like "it can't possibly be" and then you watch it and spend 2 hours and 46 minutes understanding why paul atreides has a cult the size of a planet

Someone said something about Aether with a Mohawk on my art the other day, and I was beside myself, thinking "No, no no...Well-!"

thoughts on how we treat children while being kind to ourselves
late last night, i reblogged a post about being kind to kids and added some tags that were meant in kind of a jokey way, but were snarky. i'll own it. i was tired, i was just speaking off the cuff, and i didn't think anything of it. but it got a few notes from followers and non followers alike in the morning, so i went and looked at the reblogs, as i sometimes do. and oh boy. oh boy, i have some things to say.
the original point i was trying to make, and didn't make particularly well, is that i feel like there's this rhetoric pushed by a certain portion of the population that being nice to kids means being indulgent and sweet and constantly patient. for a lot of us, that's just not possible. we don't have the bandwidth, we've constructed our lives to be mostly child free, we didn't grow up around kids. the notion of putting yourself in a kid's shoes can be tough for people who have difficulty relating to the experiences of others, period. there is a whole host of reasons why relating to children and extending extreme amounts of empathy toward them is challenging to some folks.
in the notes of that post, there are people calling the childfree movement evil (and, let's be real, calling women who don't want to have children and/or who don't care for them evil by extension). of course, i don't approve of sections of the childfree movement who go around being nasty to kids! that's bad news bears! kids are people! obviously! but i've worked with children extensively and they can be great, but they're also trying and exhausting, and i couldn't do that 24/7. it's disheartening to have what is a nuanced issue about the comfort of a child vs the comfort of an adult reduced to "you have to be nice to kids always and never get angry at them and always be patient or you're the worst person alive and will damage them for life if you yell at them once!!!"
it would be really great, as a childfree person, if i had been told a while ago, instead of the black and white narrative, something like this: "you don't have to love children or even like them. being just polite and somewhat pleasant is enough. try and field their questions and curiosity if you can, but if it's too much for you, then ask where their parents or guardians are. there can be compromise. you can be kind to kids while being kind and true to yourself. disliking kids in no way makes you a bad person -- your thoughts are not crimes. they are your own. not saying that thought to the kid, even though sometimes you want to, is what makes you the true adult, and even better than you already are.

Happy WW friend! There has been endless discussion about Dean’s close relationship with John. But... If John lived, do you think Sam could ever have a similarly close relationship with him? Or do you think the Stanford incident and Sam’s childhood has left too big of a stain on their past? If John and Sam had their own closeness, would Dean ever get jealous? Or would he see it as the final stage of his fucked up family healing itself?
ooooooh boy ok i had to take some time on this one! thank u for the ask!
the big thing that started pushing sam towards forgiving his dad was jess' death + john's death. without grief to kind of...soften the memories i think once the azazel arc was over it would get tense again real quick. dean's only got a year left because he didn't kill sam and instead sold his soul for him so THAT would cause some fights (and probably john going off on his own again), and then sam goes off the rails fast after his death. john wouldn't be able to keep him on track, and he would probably start believing that even with azazel dead sam's too corrupt at this point to save.
i honestly think s4 would result in john trying to follow through on killing sam to save him from himself and dean from his influence. and uh, that would be. real bad for a lot of reasons. might result in dean and sam protecting each other and bonding that way but would more likely result in like...a tragic murder-suicide situation. maybe with dean as the sole survivor. OR sam killing john with his psychic mojo.
i really don't think that there's potential there for reconciliation. the only way they could ever be close is if it was a john from an alternate universe or from prior to mary's death, because his trauma and his righteousness really do result in a man who can't admit he's wrong - and sam would need that admittance to make any progress.
if they did ever manage it, yeah dean would absolutely be jealous. he wants his family reunited and hunting together, but the idea of sam and john having a relationship that doesn't involve his input/mediation would be unthinkable for him and probably a little scary. what if they leave him? he already thinks john prefers sam - how long before they decide dean's not actually that useful and head off together to hunt without him?

Is the house of the fall of usher worth watching?
yup, mike flanagan doesn't miss. it's like succession but with murder and edgar allan poe references. expertly done as always. gory and dark. not scary the way hill house is scary but scary the way capitalism is scary. i definitely recommend if you're into that sort of thing

HIIII BESTIE ok so. this has been sitting in my drafts for so long and i don't think it makes any sense but. kenstewy thoroughbreds thoughts.
ok so. kendall and stewy like in canon have known each other since forever. but they go through periods of time where they're either really close and hang out all the time or they don't talk for months on end. a lot of it has to do with kendall's gay panic -- like one day he kisses stewy then panics and doesn't talk to him for a whole year.
but anyway during one of their intense codepenceny era days one day stewy, jokingly at first, says you know dude it would be like. really easy to kill your dad. kendall of course is like what the fuck is wrong with you dude. and stewy is like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ im just saying dude. theoretically it would be easy. kendall is ofc disturbed and is like thats a fucked up thing to say. but. the worse logan gets (not just with kendall, but with shiv and roman as well) the more it starts to seem like a legitimate option. so ken is like, okay remember that thing you said about how easy it would be to kill my dad? theoretically how would you do it. and from then on they come up with The Plan TM but it's like, all just theoretical at that point. still, stewy makes it clear that if anything goes south, kendall is on his own.
two things rq: while lily and amanda / kendall and stewy are obviously very similar respectively, kendall isn't a killer the way lily is and like you said there is nooooo way stewy would willingly take the fall the way amanda was so ready to. so keeping those two things in mind the only way i see things unfolding similarly to the movie would be that one day kendall impulsively says fuck it lets fucking do it stew i want to be free. stewy of course is scared but yk he lowkey (highkey) wants the old man dead and wants his best friend slash boyfriend slash frenemy to be free. still he reminds kendall once again that if things go south he'd be on his own and kendall says he knows and he's well-aware. but then he panics and backs out last minute, and at that point it's way too late for like ... Both of them to get out of it unscathed, so knight in shining armor stewy would have to do it for him.
that way i can see kendall not facing the consequences of his actions (nrpi, no lasting consequences for his actions because hes not a real person etc) plus like. of course the brown immigrant kid would be more likely convicted for a crime as opposed to the white billionaire kid.
interesting interesting interesting this is marinating in my mind.........
this reminds me i am so so so interested in how they deal with kendall's guilt in s4 especially since he's told his siblings now....personally i'm hoping for an american psycho type turn where the absence of consequences makes his guilt turn inwards and eat him alive >:)

i do unironically think the best artists of our generation are posting to get 20 notes and 3 reblogs btw. that fanfic with like 45 kudos is some of the best stuff ever written. those OCs you carry around have some of the richest backstories and worldbuilding someone has ever seen. please do not think that reaching only a few people when you post means your art isn't worth celebrating.

had a fucking hilarious dream that tumblr replaced the "block" function with the far funnier "glock" function, which did the exact same thing except whenever anyone blocked you a random bullet hole, like a png of a bullet hole, would appear on your blog. discourse blogs were unreadable bc you'd go to the page and the sheer amount of bullet hole pngs stacked over the blogs obscured everything. I woke myself up laughing

tw: Examples of reblog bait/people trying to guilt others into reblogging stuff. I am not actually saying the things below, they're just examples that I have seen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I fucking hate when people say stuff like this. Especially when it's on a generally good post with valuable information. On the one hand I want to share that information because it could genuinely help someone; on the other, I don't want to spread this type of guilt-tripping and shaming and potentially trigger someone else like me. It's a lose-lose situation. No matter what I do, I am going to feel guilty. No matter what I do, I will feel like a terrible person. It sucks and I just wish people would stop doing this. I know it's shocking, but it is actually possible to make an important and useful post without guilting everyone that sees it into sharing.

FYI every purchase of any of The Adventure Zone music on Griffin McElroy's Bandcamp will be entirely donated to the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund for the rest of 2023. His music is set at 'name your price', and the McElroys are also going to match the donations.
If you've listened to even a bit of any TAZ campaign, you surely know what a fantastic musician Griffin is, and there is no better time to purchase his music than now.
