A couple of months ago I was walking my dog, Freddie Fahrenheit (a play on a Queen song as a nod to Freddie Mercury of course), somewhere around 10pm. I live in a trailer park in a quiet New England town. Like it or not, you know your next door neighbors. And tbh, I don't really like it. But it is what it is.
One of the 3 closest trailers is home to a single dad and his preteen daughter. This guy spends all of his free time gardening. When I say that walking through his front yard (we live across from his backyard) is like walking into The Secret Garden. Absolutely beautiful all year long.
So he's a bit of a distance from me even though we can directly see into each other's back yards because he's technically *next* to my next door neighbor on the opposite side. They share a path that goes straight into my front yard, that's the vegetable garden.
So me and the dog walk beside that little garden-perfect view of the moonlight. The sky was alight but not very bright. One of his tallest trees looks at first like it's being blown by the wind. Then it looks like it's being shaken. Which at first was mildly amusing to me. Then there's an odd af edge to one side of the tree.
The 'edge' splits in two.
There's something long with four appendages...and when I say something I mean the whole middle of it is too thin and *sharp*. It shakes and moves in the same direction I am moving behind the dog, both of us heading forward towards our parking lots.
I quietly encourage my dog to finish his sniffs quickly, and we head toward the house. The whole time I am feeling more than seeing, because I feel in my very bones that there's an 'understanding' that I shouldn't look right at it.
Now, if you live in a crowded neighborhood you know what I mean when I say that I KNOW the way this acquaintance sounds when he whistles. I hear it several times a day. If you leave the house, this man is at work, with his kid, or WHISTLING in his gardens.
He whistles. A short burst. Kind of like a guy realizing he's just scared a woman he barely knows in the middle of the night, probably, I think. Then everything is eerily quiet.
Suddenly, just like I'm sure our ancestors have known for all the history of mankind, I know I must run. And so me and Freddie Fahrenheit, we run.
I got us inside, slammed the door, locked it and tried not to scream. I kept watching the tiny sliver of glass that is the window at the top of our front door. I feel like someone is looking right back at me. Like the feeling when you're a kid playing hide and seek and they've fucking caught you.
Just as well as I know the sound of my neighbor's whistle, I know that was not what I heard.

#i am so stressed rn#like i’m constantly stressed all the fucking tiem#i somehow am keeping up with everything i have to do assignment wise for school#while also simulaneoualy feeling like i’m falling behind and i can’t get everything done#like it shows in my grades that i’m on top of shit#my lowest grade is a 92.9% in my law class and that’s still a fucking A#between work and school i don’t have a lot of time for myself#i need to write but i’ve been so fucking exhausted that i cannot even process writing#i’m barely processing any fic i’m reading#or textbooks that im reading#my life since january has basically been playing uber for my mom#driving my dog to and from the sitter’s#going to work#doing school#and going to all my fucking doctors appointments that i have every month#and i don’t mind playing uber for my mom i really don’t#but i’m also not getting a lot of sleep on top of everything#like at most i’ll get 7 1/2 hours on a good day#but i’m averaging 4.5-5.5 hours a night#because i stay up until midnight doing school work and i usually have to be up by 6a to drive my mom to work#i don’t go to bed usually until 1a because i’m still fuckign wired from the day#because i haven’t been able to stop and breathe#i’m p sure i’m developing some kind of eating disorder or at least disordered eating#bc since jan ive lost 22lbs#compared to march 2023 to jan 2024 where i lost 16 pounds#and i know i’m not eating enough or im not eating routinely enough and im diabetic i can’t go long hours between eating#but i’ll got like 6-8 hours between the time i eat lunch to when i eat dinner#i have to get my big bang done by the 28th bc it posts the 29th#and i have so much shit to do for school i do not know how the fuck i’m going to make it to the end of the semester#idk life sucks and i want to cry but i don’t even have time to cry

I realized I hadn't even bothered to write the journal post I had planned to at about 11:30am. So here goes.
We got a different strain from the dispensary. 31% at that. It has given me the nicest sense of connection with an unexpected co-pilot today. Piper has been having...nightmares? It's difficult to say because they only share the imagery and the associated feeling with it. A mixture of mild terror and slight amusement. They're fairly eerie, such as the old woman in brightly colored tattered clothes bent over and screaming on the side of the road, and the pale faceless (we mean "faceless" in all the ways btw) man waving from behind the kitchen island. Piper hasn't explained if these are new or normal or why they're here. They've only showed me.
I'm ok with this. If they need to hold my hand (or Magni's or Donna's at least) then I know one of us will be willing.
I've had this stronger than usual 'tethered'/handholding feeling on a couple of strains. It's rare but it happens.
