The Beatles backstage at the Imperial Ballroom, Nelson, Lancashire, 11th May 1963
One of my favourite Beatles photo of all time…
- John back from his holiday with Brian and ready to make up for it with a Rachel McAdams lookalike
- Paul just glad to have survived Tenerife and celebrating by going for the jacket on shoulder/ thumb in pocket combo like some kind of Merseyside Musketeer
- Paul and George both angling for the same girl and George clearly deciding to just go for broke and grab her tit
- the girl in the front seeing what he’s up to and loving it
- Ringo still wondering what the hell he’s let himself in for
- whatever that creepy guy at the back is doing
- sorry woman next to Ringo, you hold no interest

my mother told me that this was the first photo ever taken of me. my mother lies a lot.
she also told me that when it was taken it was the youngest person in my family (me) with the oldest person in the family. i don't remember what the woman's name is. if she's 80 to 100 years old in the picture, she would have been born between the early 1860's and the 1880's. possibly in norway, but probably in the 1870's in the united states.
i recall that the woman is a distant cousin on my mother's side, but that's all. i'm not going to start communicating with my mother to find out.

Derek Taylor, the Daily Express' northern showbusiness correspondent, pays £2 last minute to see an unknown band at the Odeon Cinema in Manchester, in case there's a story there.
Measuring it word by word, let me make a solemn declaration that because of the city of Liverpool, popular music, after years of turmoil and unspeakable rubbish, has become healthy and gay and good again.
Far from denigrating the effect the Beatles has on local teens, Taylor is in awe of it, and his fate is now intertwined with theirs.

The publishers only allowed the first appearance of Spider-Man because the story appeared in a title they were cancelling (Amazing Fantasy 15#). Despite misgivings at Marvel, Spider-Man was a huge hit and so he was given his own series with the first issue having a cover date of March, 1963. The issue introduced J. Jonah Jameson, John Jameson, Chameleon, and Professor Newton created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditka. J. Jonah Jameson started his long time hatred of Spider-Man in this issue that also featured Spider-Man's failed attempt to join the Fantastic Four (Mr Fantastic, The Invisible Girl, the Human Torch, and the Thing). ("Spider-Man", "Spider-Man vs the Chameleon", Amazing Spider-Man 1#, Marvel Comic Event)
