TESV: Skyrim
Mereth
The Kingdom of Mereth, also called Falmereth, was an independent falmer kingdom that once ruled over most of the province of Skyrim, before the Atmoran-Falmer war.

Merethic Era Falmer (snow elves)
I was thinking of doing a mini project about Merethic Tamriel and a documentation of the people that were living there in a sort of semi-historic way.
Of course most of it would probably not be entirely lore accurate and there will be a lot of headcanoning but it's fun regardless. So enjoy the first addition to this series.
Falmer: The falmer during the Merethic era were the tallest mer race on Nirn growing on average between 6 - 7 feet. They were also the hairiest and bulkiest on average due to the cold climate. Their culture and practices during this time were very similar to modern day nordic ones due to the cultural overlap and assimilation on the atmorans end when they first arrived to Skyrim.
They valued strength and honour. Their original gods are long lost now however historians speculate the modern nordic gods could share traits with the Falmer's old gods.
In the early Merethic era the snow elves invaded and seized what is currently the Summerset isles. This is how it is assumed Auri-El (An Altmeri/Aldmeri God) was introduced to Skyrim and later would become the primary god in the snow elven pantheon.
Furs, beards, and long hair was the norm in terms of falmer fashion for a long time due to the extreme weather however the shorter hair and beardless look though impractical in such weather was popularised in later years. Again influenced by the fashion trends on the much warmer summerset isles.
Generally speaking when the Falmer weren't invading distant lands or declaring wars with other clans they were a prospering civilisation and in the early days were much like the nords not particularly interested in magic. This was partly due to the fact Skyrim has large iron deposits meaning smithing and weaponry were the most practical but that didn't mean there was no magic at all.
Healers generally could manipulate the weave and tell or even change the future. But when Auri-el was popularised magic become a much larger part of the Falmers lives being combined and assimilated into what they already had. For example enchanting among smiths and manipulation of elements specific to Skyrim (Ice magic mostly).
These changes didn't come fast of course, the falmer were quite stubborn. But over time a cultural shift did happen going from axe-wielding barbarians (As the Aldmer called them) to a slightly more tame society that we know a little bit today.
This didn't come without its challenges however as while the falmer were changing the Atmorans living there were not and in fact had taken on a lot of the cultural aspects or even gods of the traditional falmer. This inevitably was the beginning of the end as tensions got higher with these cultural and religious differences it ended the only way it could, in a war. And well, you know the rest.
Currently the ancestors of the Merethic snow elves thrive in cave systems below ground. While the nords toil above ground, the nords frost resistance of course being a product of falmer and atmoran ancestors. Regardless both societies still hold the values the early Snow elves held. Strength and Honour.

t wasn’t entirely clear to you when you started attending this club. It was most likely some day when you were just bored and stumbled upon it, hoping for something to help you think about things besides what…you usually do.
While you didn’t remember why you started visiting it, you did know why you came back. Not only were the drinks and snacks good, but the entertainment was something that you hadn’t been entirely expecting. Live music wasn’t always your cup of tea, but for some reason you found it easy to be drawn to the singer.
She was…gorgeous, for one thing. Stupidly so. Not to mention her voice was amazing. It was calming almost. Tranquil. You rest your chin in your hand as you watch her sing, sighing the softest bit. Sucks you couldn’t do that.

Devastating headcanon alert!
Maglor looks more like a son of Fingolfin than a son of Feanor.
When Feanor starts to become paranoid of Fingolfin, imagine that he doubts Maglor's loyalty, since the banishment to Tuna- despite Maglor being loyal then- until they reach Middle Earth and he challenges his second son's loyalty.
"Burn the ships!"
And ever-loyal Maglor obeys.

The Mereth Aderthad ("Feast of Reuniting") was the great celebratory feast held by Fingolfin. Ambassadors came from all the peoples and realms of Beleriand

The joy of that feast was long remembered in later days of sorrow; and it was called Mereth Aderthad, the Feast of Reuniting. Thither came many of the chieftains and people of Fingolfin and Finrod; and of the sons of Fëanor Maedhros and Maglor, with warriors of the eastern March;
Fingolfin organises the only Big Party that gets mentioned in the entire Silm and only Maedhros and Maglor come? What about the other brothers? Were they not invited? It's hard to believe that Fingolfin would not invite the rest of his nephews to the Feast of Reuniting. Political scandal something something. Maybe it was Maedhros that said that nope, he needed his evening off, he didn't want to babysit his brothers again. Or maybe they were grounded, and it was way after their curfew anyway?
Jokes aside, it has just always seemed so significant for me that it was specifically mentioned that out of all the Fëanorians only Maedhros and Maglor came to the feast.
I really doubt that the invitation was for Maedhros and his Plus One. Fingolfin would have wanted to reunite with all of his nephews. But was it Maedhros' decision to leave his younger brothers in the east? Possibly. Only twenty years have passed since he was rescued from Thangorodrim. We can call it either precaution or paranoia, but I can totally imagine Maedhros deciding that he couldn't leave his realm unguarded. What if Morgoth decided to attack when everyone was having fun at Ivrin? Maybe he even wanted to stay in the March himself - to keep an eye on everything personally. But again - he had to show up at the Feast himself, as a former high king and the head of his house. Not coming might have resulted in a political scandal and caused unnecessary gossip.
But maybe Maedhros' decision was caused by something entirely different? He might have decided to order his brothers to stay in the east, just because he wanted to avoid any potential conflicts. Two camps - the Fëanorians and their supporters & Fingolfin and his people - were still not... on good terms, which is one of the reasons why Maedhros took his brothers and their people and moved to the far east in the first place. He had already got a taste of Caranthir's temper, he might have suspected that something similar would have happened again. It was supposed to be the Feast of Reuniting, not the Feast of Unresolved Family Drama.
Maybe, just maybe, it was actually the younger Fëanorians who rejected the invitation? "Sorry, Nelyo, you really don't think that we will travel THAT far just to smile nicely at Fingolfin?".
Or maybe it was something entirely different or a combination of multiple factors? I guess we'll never know...
