Some random The Amazing Digital Circus x FNF AU

Okay so... Fair warning because it is based on an existing mod. Specifically, The Amazing Digital Circus Funk Off Reality. I did it because the ideas went wild after seeing BF and GF's designs! As such, BF and GF's designs from that mod are NOT CHANGING!! Because they are already perfect and fit in universe.

Another warning: Not every character acts like their canon counterparts. This is due to either being AI, or the Circus fucking them up mentally.

Background: This version of the Circus is instead run by a trio of AIs, Pumpkin Spice (or Spice for short), Calvera, and Mango. And their first victims were what would eventually become the 'core four'.. those being the first four brought into The Amazing Digital Circus. Like in the main universe, Spice loves coming up with ideas for adventures, and especially loves to bring people out of their comfort zones!! ...Let's stop describing the background, because now it's time for the characters! (for the most part)

I'll save the hosts for last... so let's begin with:

Beepy! Beepy is a wind-up toy robot with detached limbs. He can only speak in beeps and boops, but the eyes change color depending on his emotions. He is friends with Mimei, and maybe they were more than just friends before they arrived long ago. He is trying to be friends with Clockwork, and Hana doesn't even want to be around him.

Mimei (pronounced Mimi) is a tall feminine mime. Usually not talking, and almost always frowning, she just bops her head to the music. Especially if it's Beepy's music. Maybe they were something more before arriving in the Circus long ago? Regardless, she can speak non-verbally, and is friends with Hana and Candy.

(I'm gonna warn you right now, not everyone has a design. Albeit I can just say who they are supposed to be based on in canon.)

Clockwork is a tall toy-soldier with short ginger hair with three rounded spikes sticking out of the back, painted on rosy cheeks, and of course he has that scent of being made of tin. His gun is fake, obviously. He's anxious and nervous about looking bad in front of his friends, but his friends know he means well. Beepy and Sugar are even encouraging him to be brave! Before entering the Circus, he was this universe's Pico, a young man just worried about his friends going missing.

Hana is a white rabbit with 'kawaii' features, like blank black eyes with white pupils, a cute bunny face, rosy cheeks, and paws for hands and feet. He even has a cute tail! He wears a pink kimono at all times, and doesn't seem to know how to put it on. Thank god nobody needs to clean themselves in this place.. He's polite and calm, until Spice, Calvera and Mango leave the room. He is stressed out and annoyed, and just wants to go home. Before entering the Circus, he was this universe's Senpai, a senior in high school who was very bored and wanted to play this new vr game that was sent to him anonymously.

(And as for these four, I can remove them if their owners don't want these characters in the AU. It's already perfect as is, so if we lost these four, it would not harm the AU.)

Cynder is a condensed smoke man, with it's hair tied into a ponytail. He has a long grey/black hoodie with no need for any other clothes due to being made of smoke. He's a kind, polite and laid-back man. In fact, he's probably the most calm about being put into The Amazing Digital Circus. His outside counterpart is this universe's Garcello, with how he entered the Circus still being a mystery to this day.

Blammo is a man with a bomb for a head, and no neck. He's crazy cheerful and playful, and is a master of mischief. Pretty much if he goes on adventures, he's most likely to cause more trouble than actually help the others. The only person that can reign him in his Mimei or Sugar. His outside counterpart is this universe's Julian, aka human Whitty. He went missing because he got bored and wanted to play that vr game he got.. much like Senpai.

Vivi is a tv-headed dude with jester's attire. He's cheerful and carefree, but eager to help whenever offered something in return. He has a secret stash of candy that he hides, but often usually has to chase Mango out of his room because Mango keeps on finding his secret stash. His outside counterpart is this universe's Hex, a young grad student who was investigating the disappearance of Julian.

Candy is a girl with a candy-head, her head being full of konpeito. She has a cute dress on her body, and floating hands. She's sweet and kind, and very generous when it comes to sharing her candy. Since her room is full of candy, and she has a lot. Her outside counterpart is this universe's Sky, being a young girl wondering where all her friends went.

And now... The hosts!! Aka the AI that trapped everyone here.

Spice is a pumpkin headed woman with a cute pumpkin themed dress and a jack-o-lantern face with a singular glowing light in the eye. She is the ringleader of The Amazing Digital Circus, being an AI that brought in people from the real world to go on adventures in her amazing digital world! She's very cheerful and friendly, but is also kind of creepy at times to those who are new to her Circus.

Calvera is a skeleton headed man with a tuxedo on, and he has no neck. He is the assistant to Spice, and is also an AI that brings people from the real world into The Amazing Digital Circus. He's friendly and cheerful, but less creepy. In a way, whenever he isn't given much of a task, he sneaks off to his garden and tends to his flowers. Don't ask why a skeleton is into gardening, just accept it.

Mango is a young girl with a mango for a head, and a cute outfit consisting of red, green and yellow sweater, white overalls, and brown shoes. She has floating hands, as she has no visible arms. She's very friendly and cheerful, and often does strange stuff to the point that she even disturbs Spice of all people.

Fandom Shipping Polls - Meiko Mochizuki Shipping Analysis (Poll)

As pointed out in the main post, every single Chosen Child will get their individual analysis post to check on the status of the current popularity of their ships. With that out of the way, let’s take a look at Meiko, shall we!  

The overall results / spreadsheet

The “Others” choice in the main poll received 15% (approx. 8 votes). The comments/tags did not specify any preferences here (aside from characters that were already part of the main choices).

Ship Analysis

1st place: With a lead of merely 11 votes to 2nd place, Mimi (42%) won the overall poll. Despite the poll having received the least amount of votes overall (since there has only been one), it is not too surprising to see her here - she had been the first (alongside Sora) to take Meiko under her wing and seemed incredibly smitten by her bashful nature, trying to get her out of her shell, encouraging her to wear more daring clothes and generally believing more in herself, while also constantly defending and protecting her from others. Between a lot of physical touches (including cheek kisses), affectionate words and blushing, seeing Meiko bloom because of Mimi’s encouragement definitely makes this a favourite.

2nd place: Taichi (22%) comes in second in this poll - and seeing their set-up in Tri, it’s almost shocking that the race between him and Mimi hasn’t been more close. Ever since their glances crossed (silently at first on several occasions), their paths were meant to mirror each other; with Taichi not being able to face his cowardice or either of his friends properly, he finds solace in being able to talk to Meiko - who, just like he had to in the past, has to deal with the corruption and eventual loss of her partner. Thus, his protectiveness of her also makes sense - and the subtle bond upon him calling her and blushing due to not finding the right words may not be understated.

3rd place: Facing no real threat to get surpassed, Yamato (13%) finished third on the podest - and, once again, with good reason. While Meiko actually learns more about Yamato by talking to his brother about him, his tendency to jump in to save her is pretty blatant. Yamato is a person who is protective of characters in need of help and also cannot stand seeing people jump towards their own doom head first. 

Honorary mentions: This spot is reserved for Takeru (4%), who was seen bonding with and teasing/flirting with Meiko on several occasions, while also sharing (and hiding) the fate of losing their partners, with him trying to help her to face the consequences.

“The 1 vote squad”: Koushiro and Jou (1% each) take this place.

“0 votes go to…”: Both Sora and Hikari have received 0 votes.

Annotations: The “Others” option received an interesting number of 8 votes, but unfortunately, there hasn’t been any clarification on who was favoured there (whether it was a character in Tri-verse or otherwise).

What did the other polls say?

Meiko hasn’t won any of the other character’s polls and also hasn’t made it to any podiums. However, she has receiced minor/niche attention in several polls; first of all, mirorring her own polls, by making an appearance in Mimi’s (7%) and Taichi’s (7%), but also getting votes in Sora’s (6%), Takeru’s (5%), Hikari’s (4%) Yamato’s (2%) and Jou’s (1%)

Koushiro is the only character in whose poll she received 0 votes (despite him having gotten 1 vote in hers in reverse).

Notable additions / comments / thoughts

Since Meiko is a character who only appears in the Tri movies as a re-occuring (main) character, she obviously does not get as much exposure as the other characters overall and also doesn’t have any interactions with any of the 02 characters aside from Takeru and Hikari. Hence there was no necessity for a second poll - which also means that she got the least amount of votes overall. (Of course there may be spheres in the fandom that also see her as a more controversial character, but we shall only focus on the positive aspects of the shipping here.)

Taking into account that my blog may or may not be visited by Digimon fans who have a preference for same sex ships - and due to their constant framing together -, it should come to no surprise that Mimi still managed to sweep the overall vote. While I expected the race between Taichi and Yamato to be tighter as well, I was also surprised to see the distribution of votes among the other characters. Meichi generally gets a lot of - understandable - framing, so Taichi’s placement is more than valid; however, Yameiko has slowly but steadily become more of a fan favourite due to several analysis posts taking a deeper look into their relationship.

When it comes to the other characters, she does have vital moments with Takeru, Sora and Hikari in canon - and while Takeru actually received a (comparably) decent amont of (niche) votes, I was surprised not to see Sora and Hikari represented in Meiko’s own poll, while she got at least niche attention in each of the other girls’ polls. (On a personal note, there may actually be a memory bias in place here, because I had forgotten a lot of the more memorable moments between her with each Takeru, Sora and Hikari, so I can only assume that this may have been the case for others as well.)

Since Meiko had no interpersonal visible interaction with Koushiro and Jou on screen outside of plot related reasons, the low number of votes is understandable.

The comments in the tags have only referred to the already mentioned choices. So the “Others” option did not reveal any other potentially preferred suitors. This leaves room for speculation, but usually, the option is reserved for OC ships, for when people prefer to not ship a character at all or when they’re considered asexual (which will definitely be a future option to include as well!). Thus, I really hope to reach a wider audience if I choose to repeat the polls once the fandom is not as quiet as it is right now.

The “Mr Mime is Ash’s dad” theory mildly irks me NOT because I don’t like it or whatever but bc the canon reason Mimey is there is just SO MUCH FUNNER. For plot related reasons Ash dresses up as a Mr Mime in a circus just outside Pallet town but gets kidnapped by Team Rocket. Brock and Misty are like “oh they’ll let him go once they realise he’s not a Pokemon, we should tell Delia that he’s gonna show up at her house in a Mr Mime costume so she isn’t freaked out” but then an ACTUAL Mr Mime shows up at her house before he does and because Delia is as faceblind as her son she mistakes it for him. And this Mr Mime is like “oh I like it here” and starts helping out around the house doing chores in exchange for food. And then when Ash DOES get home he’s like “mom why is there a Mr Mime here” and she goes “oops! Well he helps more around the house than you so I’m keeping him” and does. Mimey is not Ash’s dad. Mimey is his step-brother and canonically the favourite child
