To Cry for the Moon Part 6 (Moon Knight x Female Eternal!Reader)
Author’s Note: This shifts between he and them. I usually use they/them for Marc/Steven's body because it houses all the alters and the one fronting. I use he when whoever is fronting speaks because it is a singular personality. Hope that makes sense. Also, there might not be an update Monday, but I will try to get the next part out in a day or two.
I do not have dissociative identity disorder (DID) This is a fictional depiction of DID & characters are based on the Marvel/Disney’s Moon Knight series. I own nothing. The story idea by @jupitersmoon167 (the original post I saw is here!) Also realized I should probably add content warnings, so I did and tagged them. If you think I missed a warning please send me an ask. I try to tw tag even the tiniest thing so no one has to suffer if I can help it.
Y/N = Your Name. Y/N/N = Your Nickname. Reader pronouns She/Her. Story is 3rd person POV. Italics are the reflected alter talking.

Part 6: The Struggle Begins
The small group took the path along the water as they headed home. They are completely caught off guard as they all turn to see a deviant climbing out of the river.
“Run,” Sersi shouts.
Y/N turns and grabs Steven’s arm to run, but it is Marc that she finds.
“Go, I’ve got this,” Marc says and tries to shake out of her grip, but her grip tightens and she starts to pull them toward the stairs. Her strength surprises them. Their focus on her means they miss Sersi turning the ground to sand and solidifying it to trap the deviant. The cracking makes them both look back.
“No, you don’t!” Y/N shouts and continues to pull them up the stairs.
Marc glances at Y/N as he summons the Moon Knight suit. She finally lets them go. "Get out of here. We can handle it."
Y/N immediately recognizes the suit and the markings as they reach for the crescent moon and pull out their weapons, the wind kicks up. "KHONSHU!" she shouts at the top of her lungs, ignoring Marc's confused look. "YOU OLD BIRD! YOU KNOW THEY AREN'T EQUIPPED TO FIGHT A DEVIANT!"
Marc is even more confused as they see multiple versions of Sprite and Sersi attempting to confuse the deviant. "A what?" Marc says but their attention is drawn away as Sprite shouts that the beast knows where they are and Sprite is knocked to the ground.
Y/N hear Sersi shout out for Sprite.
"Don't get hurt!" Y/N shouts to Marc and starts running to help Sprite. Both Steven and Marc call after her but she jumps and before their eyes glowing wings of golden energy appear and she takes to the sky. She launches a round of feathers-like projectiles at the beast before it can snap at Sprite. One of the tendrils lashes out at her, followed by a large claw that wraps around her leg. She is dragged towards the ground. She barely hears someone call her name. She doesn't have time to figure out who it was. She quickly summons a blade and slices deep into the joint of the massive limb, freeing herself just in time for it to turn and focus on her. Sersi shouts. Y/N ignores the slight ache in her leg and shakes it off as best she can.
“Let’s dance you, ugly bastard,” Y/N sneers, attempting to keep it focused on her as she takes flight. Volleying another round of feathers at it.
"What is happening?" Steven's reflection asks.
"Ma'at is happening," Khonshu states like it was an obvious fact. "Are you just going to stand there worm and watch a group of women do what you can't?"
"She's Ma'at?!" Steven shouts.
"It was obvious, she hasn't aged a day." Khonshu’s tone filled with annoyance.
"Y/N is an avatar?" Marc asks.
"No, she is Ma'at, she never needed an avatar, she was never like the rest of us. She existed long before us and always has been. She is an Eternal."
"A what?" Steven asks.
"And you didn't say anything?!" Marc snaps.
"Khonshu!" Y/N shouts at the god as she manages to dodge a swipe from the deviant. "For someone so determined to protect innocent travelers in the night, you are doing jack shit to help right now. Help Dane or help us. Don't just stand there!" Using a blade she summoned she stabs the beast in the neck. It whips around and knocks her back. Before she can regain her composure. The Deviant is slammed back.
"Oh not this fool," Khonshu gripes as Ikaris slams the deviant through several walls of a tattoo parlor. Then the beast is thrown back out by the force of Ikaris' eye beams and smashes into a lamp post, bending it at an unnatural angle. Ikaris walks back out. Y/N can't help but roll her eyes from where she hovers over the scene. Ikaris loved a dramatic entrance almost as much as Kingo did.
"What the- Who is he?" Marc asks.
"The most infuriating of them all," Khonshu starts but Sprite actually answers the question.
"Ikaris!" Sprite shouts.
"Evening ladies," Ikaris says, a smirk on his face. His tone instantly made Khonshu and Marc angry.
"Look out!" Sersi shouts and before Ikaris can react the Deviant hurdles into Ikaris sending them tumbling fast along the road. Y/N was quick to follow until the pair collided with a bus and had to veer off to not get hit.
Marc couldn't believe his eyes. A double-decker bus just turned to flower petals and the driver seems fine.
"The Eternals were always valiant warriors," Khonshu states. "But time often leads to arrogance and complacency."
As the beast regains its momentum it lunges at Ikaris again. Ikaris hits it with a beam. They all watch in horror as the Deviant heals its injured limbs.
"No," Y/N says breathlessly. As Ikaris begins to repeatedly hit the deviant with beam after beam, she joins him. They drive the beast back and into the water. Only stopping when it disappears.
As Y/N’s feet touch the ground she turns to the male Eternal. "Thank you, Ikaris." She says to him as Sprite hugs him. Her wings vanish and she sways slightly on her feet as she puts weight on the leg the deviant had used to drag her down, but recovers.
Ikaris nods and starts to reply but is interpreted.
"What the fuck?!" Marc shouts.
"Marc, I can explain," Y/N begins. She sees the suit shift to Mr. Knight and Steven stands before her.
"You were Ma'at this whole time and never told me?" Steven asks.
"You were Moon Knight and you never said a word," she counters.
The suit shifted again. "So much for honesty, huh? You knew about this didn't you?!" Marc shouts gesturing to the suit. "Is that why you are here? Huh? You came to Steven's work because you were looking for Khonshu, didn't you?"
"That is not true," Y/N says. Sersi rushes to her side. Y/N had come to London for her and Sprite after all. If her being here needed to be defended. Sersi was ready to fight. "And I told you I had powers. I told you-"
"You said you could read hearts, not that you could fly! Is all your family like this?! She turned a bus into flowers! That guy shoots lasers out of his eyes! What else didn't you tell us?! How can we believe anything you say?!"
"Because it's true," Sersi spat. "She came here for us, not any of you." She gave Y/N's hand a squeeze. "She was protecting her family. She didn't even know Khonshu was around until today. How could she know it was you?"
"So you can be an avatar and hide it but she can't-" Sprite starts but is cut off.
"You don't get a say!" Marc snaps.
Y/N turned back to "Marc, Steven, I know you guys are confused, but-"
"We don't have time for this, Y/N," Ikaris says as he grabs Y/N’s shoulder roughly. The argument before him grated on his nerves. He'd never liked most of the so-called gods. They were just creatures like everything else. They were too needy. The only power they had was what humans gave them. Humans, gods, it didn't matter. They demanded too much of the Eternals' time with not enough reward. They tended to interfere with his mission.
"Touch her again and it will be the last thing you do," Khonshu warns.
"Try me, bird," Ikaris smirks. "You don't even have feathers to ruffle anymore."
"Ikaris!" Y/N shouts, placing herself between the towering god and now floating Eternal.
"You disrespectful, arrogant-" Khonshu starts as he gets closer.
"ENOUGH!" She shouts. Everyone turns to look at her. Her unused powers crackles along her arms.
"Y/N," Sersi calls her name, voice filled with concern.
"Eternals fight deviants," Y/N glares at Ikaris. "Not gods. We ARE on the same side. We protect humanity from Deviants."
"And nothing else," Khonshu quips.
"Not this again, Khonshu," Y/N groans.
"You have powers but you only use them to fight these monsters?" Steven asks.
"We stay on our mission," Ikaris answers for her. "Didn't see you trying to help despite the fancy suit."
"And our mission is to eradicate deviants and let humans develop," Sersi interjects to attempt to stop a physical fight between the two men.
"You were on Earth since them?!” Marc gestures at Khonshu. "But did nothing to stop Thanos! Or even Ammit!"
"Osiris should have called me to deal with Ammit." Y/N spat, turning to Khonshu. "It was my system they corrupted. That was my feather! My scales! Did you even ask for me to be called? Are you that mad at me you would let everything I built be-"
"YOU ABANDONED US LIKE YOU DID OUR KINGDOM! LIKE THEY ALL DID!" Khonshu bellows.
"We had an obligation to ALL of humanity, not just Egypt," she seethes. "I didn't have the luxury of staying! There were deviants long after Osiris and the others decided to fade into the shadows. When we believed the Deviants were gone, there was no kingdom to return to. I went back. I went to the temple. I even went back to MY temple. Do you really believe it did not hurt me when the cosmic order was thrown so terribly out of balance? When my scales, my feather was misused? I feel every judgment that is made with them, as I always have. The feather of truth is me! It's my power. It's…I did not enjoy seeing my home destroyed. I don't enjoy watching humanity suffer. I wanted so badly to help. But Ajak would not let us interfere. Arishem forbid it. What was I to do?"
"Anything!" Marc shouted. "We died fighting Harrow! Layla could have died! Harrow and Ammit ruined everything!"
"Marc," she wanted to explain that she was bound by Arishem. "Steven…"
"We need to go, there are more Deviants out there. Your lover's quarrel will have to wait," Ikaris insists. "We have to go now."
"As you always do," Khonshu huffed before vanishing.
“Marc, Steven, I need to take care of this.”
Marc laughs humorlessly. “Of course you do.”
“Marc-” she sighs.
“No, you know what? Go. Take care of your ‘mission’, or whatever the hell it is that you were sent here to do, and leave.”
“……I’ll let you know when I’m done.”
“No, do both me and Steven a favor and never talk to us again.” The mask returns and Moon Knights takes off into the sky. Y/N's knees start to shake. She would have fallen if Sersi hadn't caught her.
"Are you-" Sersi starts to ask if she is alright.
Y/N shakes her head to stop her. She furiously wipes the tears from her eyes and lets go of Sersi. With gritted teeth, she walks over to Ikaris and Sprite.
"Your boyfriend's the Moon Knight?" Ikaris asks.
"Seems they are," she answers. "I spend most of my time with Steven, not Marc."
"Who is Marc?" Sprite finally asks.
"Doesn't matter now," Y/N says. "They both want me gone. So I suggest we leave."
"We don't need the distraction anyway," Ikaris says, earning a glare from Sersi and Dane. "We don't need the avatar's help."
"Let's just go," Y/N says.
16th Century AD (after the Eternals have separated)
Y/N calls upon her power and opens the path to the temple of the gods. The empty chamber holds a silence that settles into her bones. An emptiness and longing that comes with being alone after centuries of being surrounded by peers and mortals. She sat on the dark stone as she tried to figure out where to go now. Her temple, along with entire cities from her time in the kingdom, was now in ruins buried in the desert. The kingdom she helped forge had long fallen to the sands of time. Tears begin to fall, wet spots against polished stone. Her family, like her kingdom, was now scattered like the sand and gone. And like sand, the harder she tried to hold on to them, to what was left of her heart, it had slipped through her fingers.
"Now, now little feather. Do not shed another tear."
Y/N looked up to see the glowing eyes of a beloved goddess' avatar.
"They have all gone, Isis. Both my families. I could not stop them any more than I could have stayed here."
"Sweet little feather," the goddess spoke, her avatar's hand brushing the tears from the Eternal's cheeks. "We have not all gone. We remain, our time in command may have ended but like your Eternals, feather, we took to shadows, we decided we had little more to offer humanity. They moved beyond us, as they once did your celestial's mission. We now watch them thrive as you and your Eternals always told us they would. We followed your lead, feather, but we still remain. We may no longer dwell in our temples, in our once glorious kingdom. But we remain at home among all of humanity. If humanity needs us, just as if we needed you, we will return. They just need to call upon us, little feather. You always have your home here. The gods still hold your heart carefully. Call upon the gates and you will find them. My beloved still calls upon your power. You are still our little feather, our Ma'at."
"Thank you," Y/N smiled up at the mother goddess.
"Anytime, little feather." The goddess smiled back. "You are one of us."

A/N: HAPPY 1-YEAR ANNIVERSARY TO MOON KNIGHT!!! Gods, I can't believe it's already been a year...where's our season 2 announcement?!
~Previously~
Diana was woken up by rapid knocks on her door. She got up from her bed, grabbed her glasses, put them on her face, and made her way across the threshold of her flat to get to the door, moving albeit sluggishly to said door. When she unlocked and opened the door, she feigned surprise at seeing Steven on the other side.
"Steven? What's wrong? Are you okay?" she asks him in concern.
Steven stares at her for a moment, taking her in.
"I...y-you...I...uh...saw you in this dream I had," he tells her.
She tilts her head, "Oh? What happened in your dream?"
She opens her door a bit wider to let Steven inside. He hesitates for a moment before stepping into her flat. She closes her door behind him and then turns around to look at the brunet. He held his hands close to his chest as he looked around her flat before meeting her gaze through her glasses.
"Um...well...I woke up i-in an unfamiliar place and in pain...then I was getting shot at so I ran...I tried to blend in, in this village...I remember seeing your face in the crowd and then...there was this man, Harrow I think he called himself...and he seemed to be judging people?...this elderly woman died...and then Harrow seemed to recognize me...he called me a mercenary which I quickly objected to...then he asked for this..."
"Stop."
Steven had been wringing his hands together as he recalled his strange dream when an unseen voice spoke up, making him pause in his recollection. Diana tilted her head to the right just a little at his sudden lull, looking at him in curiosity.
"Steven? What did this Harrow man ask you for?"
The brunet's tongue poked out from between his pink lips to wet them before quickly disappearing back inside his mouth, an action that Diana had watched subconsciously.
"Don't tell her anymore."
The unseen voice said a bit more firmly to Steven. So he hesitated for a moment and recollected his thoughts.
"I-I...I don't remember. You uh...you know what they say about dreams. The longer you're awake...the faster the dream slips away." he tells her.
Diana stares at him for a minute, not believing him for a moment but, she wasn't going to let him know that. If he believed what happened was a dream, then she would go along with it.
"Yeah, that's what they say, isn't it? And I totally get it, sometimes I try to recall dreams only for them to fade away before I can remember all the details," she says.
Her gaze trails over his body, checking for any outward injuries as it hadn't been easy for her to keep up with him during the car chase.
"But you're okay though, right? It didn't become a nightmare?" she asks in concern.
"Yeah, yeah. Woke up 'fore anythin could happen." he assures her.
"That's good, I'm glad. Nightmares are the absolute worst," she mentions.
"Yeah, they absolutely are." he agrees.
Steven starts to fiddle with his thumbs now, as silence has fallen over the both of them and he had no idea why the mystery voice didn't want him to tell his dear friend about what had happened.
"W-well...I think that...I should head back to m-my flat. Things to do." he says after a lapse.
"If you want. I don't mind if you stay, we could hang out if you want to."
"I've gotta feed Gus and since it's my day off...there's a historical show that I don't want to miss."
The dirty blonde nods in understanding and opens her door again to let Steven out, bidding him farewell as he went across the hall. He returned the goodbye and then entered his flat. She closed her door and pressed her forehead against the wood, sighing.
~~~~~~~~
Diana had decided to take a walk later that evening. She had changed her clothes, now wearing a soft gray dress and her black ankle booties. She had been walking down the street for a while before deciding to come to a standstill, basking in the moonlight and the way it felt on her skin, eyes closed as she took in the feeling.
She then feels a gush of wind blow past her, causing her to open her eyes and look around. She also felt that familiar presence once more. As she looked around for whatever the presence was, her blue-green eyes caught a recognizable figure across the street.
It was none other than Steven Grant, sitting alone at a steakhouse. It was then that she remembered why he was there but also what day it was. He had shown up late to the date he was supposed to have and yet, it looked like he was planning on sticking around.
She could see the dejected look on his face, the sad looks he was getting from surrounding patrons, and felt her heart clench in her chest. So, the dirty blonde did the only thing she could think of. She brushed invisible dust off her top before making her way across the street.
"Duckie!" she inwardly cringes at the old-timey nickname that came out of her mouth as she approached Steven.
"I'm so sorry for being late, traffic was god awful...an absolute nightmare. Eventually, I just decided to walk the rest of the way." she apologized.
Steven looked at her with wide eyes, taking in her appearance, and couldn't quite believe she was real for a moment before he snapped out of it and swiftly stood up from his seat.
"No worries darling, I'm just glad you were able to make it." he rounds the table to pull the chair out for her.
She gives him a soft smile before taking a seat and letting Steven push her in. Then he returns to his own chair and pulls up to the table. He then looks at her once more, still trying to wrap his mind around the fact that she's here right now.
"I'm so sorry, Steven. The last couple of days, I got busy and stuck in my head...I forgot to tell you that today was Sunday." she says softly.
He shakes his head slightly, "I'm still so lost...it was Thursday last I remember and suddenly it's Sunday. And Dylan told me to lose her number..."
Diana reaches across the table and laid her hand on top of his.
"Well, don't worry about it...she didn't deserve you anyway. You can do a lot better than her."
She internally cringed once again. Was she really about to do this? After a few weeks of friendship, was she really about to jeopardize that? Ever since that tour, he'd given her due to her recommendation...she had quickly developed feelings for the brunet and it was new to her. Even after being on Earth for seven thousand years, she's never felt the feelings that Steven gave her before.
Steven tilted his head as he looked at her, wondering where her mind was at. Before he could ask what she meant, the waiter came by with the steak he had ordered after getting off the phone with Dylan. Diana grabbed the man's wrist before he could set the plate down though.
"Sorry sir, but we can't have this steak."
"Diana, it's alright," Steven interjected, not wanting to waste the waiter's time anymore.
She looks at him for a moment before letting go of the waiter's wrist. He sets the plate down on the table and was about to walk away.
"Can you bring us a salad too? Thanks," she calls after him.
"You didn't have to do that. I would've been fine with the steak." Steven tells her.
"Steven, you're vegan. I'm not about to let you eat something that goes against that," she stated.
The brunet gives her a small smile, touched by her looking out for him. He was glad to have a friend like her, even if it took him a bit to get used to her outwardly signs of affection. Which reminded him...
"What did you mean, earlier? When you said that I could do better than Dylan." he wonders.
The dirty blonde paused in her movements, having taken to cutting up the steak when he asked his inquiry.
"Um...just that...well...ya know...uhh..." she trails off, not quite wanting to really put the words out there.
Seven thousand years of existence and she wasn't prepared for this moment. She's battled Deviants for a few centuries, watched her best friend walk away from her, and tried to help as her good friend had imprisoned an entire small town to make herself the perfect life, and yet admitting that she had feelings frightened her.
"Diana?" Steven calls her name gently to regain her attention.
Blue-green eyes met his dark brown ones and she takes a deep breath before slowly letting it out.
"I'm sorry...this isn't easy for me to admit aloud." she apologizes.
He gives her a soft smile, "It's okay, you take your time."
She takes a moment to think her words over before saying them aloud.
"F-for a while now...uh...well, more like since you eagerly gave me a tour...I um..." she takes a pause for breath, "I might've...started to um...I may have uh...shoot this is a lot harder than I thought...hang on I can do this...I may have startedtohavefeelingsforyouromanticfeelingsthatis" she confessed it all in one breath.
Steven had given his undivided attention to Diana, waiting for her to speak her mind and then he had to process what she had said in the end. His dark brown eyes went wide once it processed.
"Y-you...uh...r-really? M-me? Are...are you sure? B-because why would you...I mean...you could do so much better than me." he tells her, his insecurities making themselves known.
Diana set her fork down and reached out to hold Steven's hand, "What are you talking about? There is nobody better than you, Steven. You're sweet, intelligent, caring and not to mention handsome. I honestly believe that there isn't a guy out there who is better than you. Besides, even if there was it wouldn't matter to me because I'm choosing you." she confesses with conviction.
Steven stared at her in awe as her confession rolled off her tongue with ease, his cheeks turning a bright pink at her words. Subconsciously, he squeezed her hand a bit tighter. He thought over his words carefully before replying to her confession.
"I...I feel the same way. I just...are you sure that I'm the one you want?" he asks in uncertainty.
"Yes, absolutely. No matter what, always and forever," she says with complete certainty.
The waiter finally returned with the salad and set it down in front of Steven before walking away.
"Okay, now that your food is also here and we've gotten confessions out of the way. Let's eat." Diana tells him.
He nods in agreement and the two of them enjoy dinner together. They made small talk about Egyptian lore as they ate, smiling and laughing with one another. Once they finished eating, the pair argued over paying the bill.
"I should be the one to pay the bill. I'm the one who ordered the steak in the first place." Steven tells her.
"So? I added the salad." Diana argued.
"Please, let me pay for this?" Steven requested.
She sighs, "Okay, okay. Fine, you can pay for this dinner. But I'm paying for the next date."
He smiles and pays the bill then the pair get up from the table and go for a walk instead of heading straight back to their flats. They continued on with their conversation from dinner as they walked under the moonlight, now talking about anything and everything.
Diana listened intently as Steven rambled on, smiling softly as she watched him talk so eagerly, hands waving around as he spoke. Eventually, the duo made their way back to the building of their flats, riding up in the lift together and heading towards their respective flats.
"Oh Gods, I...I meant to give these to you when you joined me at the table." Steven holds the box of chocolates and bouquet of flowers out to Diana.
The Lunar Eternal giggles slightly before taking the gifts from his outstretched hands.
"Thank you very kindly."
He smiles softly at her, looking at her in adoration.
"Will I see you tomorrow?" he asks.
"Of course, silly. We still have work." she smiles.
"Right, you're right. See you tomorrow then," he says.
"Absolutely, I'll make you breakfast. Try and get some sleep, Steven," she tells him.
He gives her a nod and turns to unlock his door but before he could head inside Diana stepped up and gave him a peck on the cheek, watching his cheeks immediately turn pink.
"Goodnight, Duckie~" she smirks at his flushed face before taking a step back from Steven and enters her flat.
Once recovering from Diana's sudden affection, Steven stepped into his own flat and closed the door behind him, applying his strip of blue tape to the door before going about doing the rest of his routine for the night.
~~~~~~~~
When Diana went across the hall the next morning to wake Steven up and invite him over for breakfast, there was no answer. She thought it was a little odd since she had mentioned that she was going to be making breakfast for him but, thought nothing more of it.
She got ready for work and knocked on Steven's door once more but still got no answer. It was then that she had a feeling about what was going on. Being as old as she was, she was very observant...noticing the tiniest of details in a person or in her surroundings. It's how she and the others managed to survive for so long, that and taking care of the Deviants once and for all.
When she had been following after Steven and she noticed the slight difference in him, she did some research. Steven's alter must be in charge and he doesn't even know it.
She made her way to work but when she got there, she could feel a dark presence inside the building from the stairs out front. The dirty blonde quickly made her way inside and instantly began searching for Steven, having a gut feeling that he was in trouble.
She found Steven in the Egyptian wing of the museum, being questioned by Arthur Harrow. She hid behind a display, not wanting to be seen by him or his followers yet, listening in on the conversation to pinpoint the exact moment to get Steven to safety.
"There's chaos in you," Harrow tells Steven.
"There's what?" Steven asked in confusion.
A door opened up behind Steven and Diana took the opportunity to come out from hiding and grab Steven's arm, quickly pulling him along while also keeping her head down so Harrow couldn't recognize her. When she felt like they were a safe distance away from Harrow and his followers, she let go of Steven and turned to face him.
"Are you alright?" she asks in concern, worried about him.
"Y-yeah, think so. Thanks for savin me," he tells her.
"Of course, that man seemed really scary," she comments.
"You have no idea." he mutters.
He looks around one more time before coming to a realization, "Oh bollocks, I'm supposed to be doing inventory."
"No worries, I'll help you out. And I won't be taking "no" for an answer. I offered so I'm following through with it." she states.
He sighs, "Okay, alright. I won't argue with you."
"Good, because you wouldn't have won it anyways." She smirks.
She then takes his hand into hers, "To the stockroom, we go! Allons-y!"
He can't help but smile at her upbeat mood even though they were just going to be logging in inventory. He follows behind her as she leads him by his hand towards the stockroom of the museum.
Once they reached the doors to the stockroom, Steven lets go of her hand to pull a set of keys out of his pocket and went through the key ring in search of the right key. When he finds it, he inserts it into the keyhole and unlocks the door to the stockroom. The brunet holds it open for his companion and the dirty blonde gives him a smile before entering the room, he enters in after her.
"Alright, hopefully with the two of us working through this...we'll be able to get at least partially through some of this stock," Diana says, trying to be optimistic about their situation.
"I think we can do it. Let's get started." Steven says in return.
The two get to work, Steven goes behind the counter to man the scanner while Diana brings a couple of boxes over to start off with. But she decides to set the boxes in front of the counter where he can't reach them and hops up onto the counter, moving around til she was sitting sideways so she could see Steven and crossing her legs so she was sitting criss-cross apple sauce, before she leans over to grab a few items then set them on the counter in front of her so Steven could scan them.
The pair worked in the stockroom until closing. The lights shutting off indicating that it was closing time. Diana hops down from the counter as Steven rounds said counter. They began to make their way out of the museum when they heard a strange sound coming from the room behind them, it almost sounded like a wounded animal.
"Oh, bloody hell," Steven mutters.
The janitor that was mopping the floor doesn't seem to notice the sound though. Steven and Diana share a look with one another before looking in the direction that they heard the noise come from, eventually deciding to head that way.
"Hello? Donna?" Steven called out.
Diana trailed behind Steven, now on guard for anything lurking in the darkness. The wounded animal sound changed into the sound of a dog howling.
"J.B?" Steven tries.
"Pets allowed in the museum?" Diana questioned.
Steven shrugged. The new, unofficial couple continue slinking through the darkness of the closed museum, looking for the dog in question.
"Here, boy," Steven calls before whistling.
The dog seems to stop making noises as he calls out for it, which the duo notes.
"Hello? Where are you, you little bugger?" Steven wonders aloud.
He turns towards a glass display, looking at his duplicated reflection before continuing on. But, Diana lingers behind for a couple of moments and notices that the two reflections don't move on.
She suddenly heard a loud growl from behind her and she turned her head, yet she couldn't see anything. That made her hurry to catch up with Steven, wanting to protect him from the unseen threat that was lurking around.
"Here, boy," Steven calls out again before whistling once more.
"Steven, we should just go. The dog might've found another way out." Diana tells him.
"There ain't no way. It would've had to pass us to get out." Steven says.
"Steven...I don't like this. We should go." she fakes being scared, hoping it'll make him want to leave.
Steven stops walking and turns around to look at her, taking in her frightened expression.
"It's alright, luv. We'll find the little bugger and then leave," he assures her.
He turns again and starts walking once more. She groans softly in annoyance before following him. The duo turned a corner and then they hear a monstrous growling sound.
Steven immediately started to back away slowly and Diana let him move behind her, moving into a protective stance. He ducked down behind a display case, pulling her down with him. She laid down in front of him, back against his chest with his arms wrapped around her chest, when the intercom speaker chimed overhead.
"Steven Grant of the gift shop. Give me the scarab and you won't be torn apart." Arthur Harrow's voice came over the intercom.
The growling seemed louder and then Steven seemed to have an idea. He unwrapped his arms from around Diana's torso before grabbing ahold of his bag and tosses it aside as a distraction. Something seems to jump out of the shadows but, Diana couldn't see the monstrous creature.
Steven nudged her to get up before motioning for her to follow him and they crept along the darkness, trying to stay out of sight of whatever was lurking around. He accidentally backs into a display and nearly knocked over a vase but, was quick to catch it.
"Run!" Steven says after a brief moment of silence.
He grabs Diana's hand and pulls her behind him as he starts running. Even though she can't see whatever was chasing after them, she could definitely hear it jumping onto the walls as it hunted them. They run throughout the museum, trying to get to safety.
The monstrous beast seems to land on Steven and Diana quickly shoves at the invisible thing in hopes of pushing it off of him before picking him up and pulling him along this time. She keeps a level head as he screams in fright, left arm bent up close to his chest as it had been mildly injured.
The pair run down a corridor and Diana pulls down a shelf just as the creature burst through the doors. Steven attempts to open a door but, of course he has to scan his employee card which takes too long in a moment of flight. He finally managed to get a door open and quickly grabbed Diana's arm to pull her in with him.
Steven quickly shut the door of the bathroom behind her then slowly backed away from said door as the creature attempted to get in. She stood in front of him as she stared at the door.
"We are to not interfere in human conflicts unless Deviants are involved."
Of course this would be the moment when Ajak's words would ring in Diana's mind, reminding her that the Eternals were forbidden from impeding in human conflicts. Her hands clenched by her sides preparing for a fight even though she knew she shouldn't fight this battle nor could she see the offending beast.
"No, what...Control of what? What are you talking about?" she hears Steven ask.
She looks over her shoulder to see him talking to his reflection. Steven suddenly spins around, attention focused on the door and not Diana looking at him.
"Damn it! No! No! No!" Steven says, slapping himself in the face before turning to the mirror again. "You're not real. None of this is real."
He looks back at the door, now with dents in it, fear evident in his dark brown eyes.
"Oh, God. I'm gonna die. I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die." he mutters to himself.
"Hey," Diana calls out, making Steven turn from the mirror and to her.
"You're not going to die." she says, unbeknownst to her, at the same time as the man in the mirror.
Steven looks back at the mirror on his left and stares in to it. Diana looks over as well, but all she can see is himself reflecting back to him. She watches as he turns his head away from the mirror and seems to be thinking things over before he was slowly nodding his head.
Her blue-green eyes widened in alarm when Steven started to seize, eyes rolling back into his head. The bathroom door came crashing down in that exact moment, causing the dirty blonde to spin around and try to discern where the creature was.
Unfortunately, before she could...she was smacked aside, back slamming into a sink then crumpling to the ground. She then watches as Steven's body becomes enveloped in a white wraps until it becomes a suit with a hood, cape and a crescent moon on the chest.
The Lunar Eternal watches the fight that occurs in the bathroom, although it looks one sided to her. Staring at the white outfit, the familiarity finally clicked within her and she finally understood what the familiar presence was. The creature was pummeled into the ground and defeated, "Steven" turned around and went to walk out without Diana until she spoke aloud.
"Of course, it all makes sense now."
The masked vigilante turned around and looked at her, solid white eyes gazing down at her before he picked her up off the floor and took her with him, throwing her over his shoulder.

20 questions for fic writers
I was tagged by @majorbaby :3c
Tagging @dustbunny105 @lyledebeast @tirednecromancer @optimisticfruitcup @itwoodbeprefect @lukestarkillerisgay and anyone else who wants to try it out
How many works do you have on AO3?: 51
What's your total AO3 word count?: 318,236
What fandoms do you write for?: MASH, X-Men, Transformers, and Star Wars primarily, with a few other fandoms mixed in as the spirit moved me :3
What are your top five fics by kudos?: Matched Set (DBH), Turn, Turn (Sandman/Old Guard), Better Than I Know Myself (Moon Knight), Resolute (Star Wars), Expedient Means (DBH)
Do you respond to comments? Honestly not usually. It just wasn't much of a thing in the corners of fandom I came up in, so I never formed the habit or expectation. I do appreciate all comments and periodically try and go through and respond, especially to very nice ones!!
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Come and See (Hannibal) ends with murder/suicide...
What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Genuinely don't know. I feel like a lot of my fics have tonally similar endings, where they're happyish or hopeful, but there's an element of uncertainty of bittersweetness...
Do you get hate on fics? No.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Ahaha... Yee. Pretty much exclusively gay or robot sex. This year I descended fully into The Id Vortex which was genuinely a psyche changing experience in a positive ways highly recommend.
Do you write crossovers? I had forgotten the Sandman/Old Guard fic was a crossover until I looked up my fics by kudos XD
Have you ever had a fic stolen? No
Have you ever had a fic translated? No
Have you ever cowritten a fic before? No
What's your all time favorite ship? TrapHawk was a primordial OTP that has fully taken over my brain kdjdjd...
What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Only You Can Find Me or as I call it X-Men Band AU... I fully have like 4 acts outlined, and very elaborate backstories for all the characters in the AU, but it took a lot of research into really weird stuff to actually write, and it just got to be overwhelming, and I kind of lost confidence/momentum in it...
What are your writing strengths? I don't know how to describe it. I think I'm pretty solid? And I have read enough I know what annoys me and I don't do those things XD I think I generally do a good job of keeping things in character and clearly motivated, I think I do a good job setting and maintaining a tone, and I try to be pretty intentional with the scenes I write. I also am pretty fast once I get going.
What are your writing weaknesses? I have a bad habit of "listing" (and this happened and this happened and this happened), and I think I don't elide as much as I could. I also worry about being too introspective or self-indulgent, and I think I have a pretty specific writing style and I always worry my narrators sound too similar. I also do 90% of my writing on my phone so I'm locked in eternal battle with typos and autocorrect correcting the wrong thing.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I indulge in this sometimes- was having a little too much fun with the sci-fi conlangs in Star Wars fic lol. I've done it a few times in other fandoms for color, but I try and make sure that what's being said is clear in context or translated afterwards.
First fandom you wrote for? Agh, like Digimon fanfic in 2001 or something crazy XD
Favorite fic you've written? Genuinely struggled to pick one, but I think Making the Most of It was both really fun to write, really fun to read, and I am proud of how it turned out- it accomplished what I set out to write and then some...

A little thing
I’ve been writing online since 1999 under three pseudonyms now: Eternal SailorM, Apollymi, and Adora Addams.
I’ve been in a lot of fandoms in that time. I mean, a lot: Sailor Moon crossovers, Gundam Wing, Weiß kreuz, X/1999, DN Angel, Torchwood, Forever Knight, Fullmetal Alchemist, Aliens, Yu-Gi-Oh... And I’m sure I’m missing some in that list.
If you had asked me before last month what the most welcoming fandom I’ve ever been in was, I would have been torn between three: Sailor Moon crossovers, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Aliens. I made a lot of friends in the crossover and Yu-Gi-Oh fandoms that I still have to this day, some of them all the way back to the beginning in 1999. Some of these friends (shoutout to @daimeryanrei) I consider my best friends that I’ve never met face to face. Aliens is still such a small fandom that new fics are greeted with kudos and reviews the likes of which I hadn’t seen in any other fandom.
Until a month ago.
If anyone were to ask me what the most welcoming fandom I’ve ever been in was now, I would have a definite answer: The Magnificent Seven. The four stories I’ve posted so far already have more kudos and more comments than any story I’ve ever posted on AO3. Yes, After Midnight is blowing all my others out of the water on all possible stats, but given my own love for supernatural/paranormal stories, I’m quite happy with this.
The only stats box on AO3 that does not contain any Mag7 stories is word count, but that’s because I haven’t posted all of Wicked Ones yet. (I know and accept that I can be long-winded. It works well for novels, after all.)

100 Days of Writing: the List
Tumblr media
Since it seems there is some interest, why not? List of works (nominally) in progress, old unfinished fics, and Stuff I Want To Write below the cut. Feel free to ask about any of these.
Works (nominally) In Progress
Fanfic
"Reason or Rhyme" (Time Princess - Gotham Memoirs). The Vittorio expansion/fix-fic, because I will be forever disgruntled at how little romance content was actually included in the Mafia romance route.
Galactic Date Night Shenanigans aka "The one where everything is Balkar's fault." (SWTOR - Theron Shan/Jedi Knight). Theron "disaster spy" Shan is goaded into trying to take his wife out for a nice date for once, and it goes like every other plan these two have ever had anything to do with.
#3: [I] trusted [you] (SWTOR - Theron Shan / Jedi Knight). A post-Nathema prompt fic I swear I will finish one of these days.
Original
super secret short story/novella project - Okay it's not that super secret, but it is something I'm mostly keeping under my hat for now as I work on it because of reasons, and is actually (inconveniently, for 100 Days of Writing purposes) the main thing I've been working on lately. I expect to be able to say more about it later. Maybe even within the 100 days! We'll see.
southern gothic urban fantasy procedural romance - Faerie Animal Control Warden meets FBI Elf during investigation of a suspicious death out in the kudzu. A little bit of Bright, a bit Mushi-Shi, a drop of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
Stuff I Want to Write
Distinct from works in progress in that I have not actually gotten past the planning stage on any of these - if that. A few of these have been rattling around in concept for long enough to have gone through several distinct evolutions without ever getting any writing done on them. Still, hope springs eternal and ideas are never wasted.
Fanfic
the rival bands AU / the rock opera playlist fic (Sailor Moon - Makoto Kino/Nephrite). Currently exists entirely as an incomplete playlist.
space opera Pride and Prejudice retelling - exactly what it sounds like on the tin. Do y'all know I have yet to encounter a futuristic/space AU? Surely there's one out there somewhere, but I have yet to see it. If you know of one, for the love of God don't tell me.
"Ten of Swords" - (Archer EMIYA/Minako Arisato). fate/stay night + Persona 3 Portable crossover what's even wrong with my brain.
Original
the Regency fae story - a Regency-era fantasy in which a lot of the needlessly complicated and restrictive social rules followed by the upper classes are actually an attempt at defending against the Fair Folk. Sort of Pride and Prejudice vs Changeling: the Lost vs Labyrinth. Could turn into a whole Pride and Prejudice retelling, I guess?
drinking games - fantasy imperial court intrigues involving a romance between a court poison taster and a master spy/assassin.
untitled - East/southeast Asian-inspired Beauty and the Beast retelling in which the Beast is a mountain god whose appearance is based on a tiger. I'm probably too white to write this.
untitled - Private investigator hired to investigate local bad-boy-made-good for insurance fraud, turns out it was actually an ill-advised teenage deal with the devil coming due. Might fit in with that other southern gothic urban fantasy idea, I am not sure.
the ciphered letter - This one started off as a combination of a Mage: the Awakening campaign and a really, really weird spam email I got one time. Orphan gets mysterious ciphered letter, meets snarky Welsh mage, awakens to magic and maybe almost gets made a human sacrifice to an eldritch abomination.
Forfeit - Regency/Victorian-esque fantasy involving reincarnation, a race of immortals, and a half-immortal teaming up with a mortal who sacrificed his future reincarnations for pseudo-immortality to uncover and stop the sinister secrets that power a colonizing empire. It makes more sense in my head... probably?
untitled - Slow burn enemies to lovers between the world-conquering emperor and the rebel leader who's opposing him, over the course of a time loop. AKA Lord of Heroes Kartis/Monarch with the serials filed off. Or I guess I could just write Lord of Heroes fanfic?
low fantasy Magnificent Seven Samurai - Farming village scrapes together a group of starving mercs to protect them from marauders, drama ensues. That's it, that's the whole idea.
Unfinished Fics
Distinct from works in progress in that these are all old enough I can no longer claim I intend to finish them. Some of them I may come back to, especially the few that had substantial progress made before they fell by the wayside. Most will probably be left abandoned, either because I have lost interest in continuing to work on them or I have just plain forgotten what I was planning to do with them.
dreameater - A very old, loosely Forgotten Realms-inspired concept involving an aging half-elf, his fully elven partner, and a mysterious magical threat that's devouring people's dreams.
"Fortune Favors the Brave" (Baccano! - Luck Gandor/Eve Genoard). The Luck/Eve shipping fic.
"Intermezzo" (Blood+ City of Nightwalkers). Follow-up fic to an obscure manga prequel/side story for the vampire anime Blood+, involving Hagi and the Hong Kong cop who semi-adopted him that one time.
"The Art of Losing Everything" (Dragon Age: Origins - Alistair Theirin/f!Cousland). An Alistair/f!Warden fic with themes of loss, duty, and sacrifice.
"In Pieces" (Dragon Age II - Fenris/f!Hawke). A terrible horrible no good very bad AU where Hawke actually turned Fenris over to Danarius and then came back to try to fix her mistake, which I can never finish because I can't make that initial decision make internal sense no matter how hard I try.
"Pas de Deux" (Final Fantasy VIII - Squall Leonhart/Rinoa Heartilly). Exploration of how Squall and Rinoa's relationship could develop after the events of the game.
"With Good Intentions" (Final Fantasy VIII - Squall Leonhart/Rinoa Heartilly). An AU in which Rinoa discovers that technically you can change the past, it's just that if Squall has an actual decent childhood the world ends. Way too ambitious for me to ever actually finish, probably, but I can't quite give up on the idea.
"I've Loved These Days" (Gundam SEED - Mu la Flaga/Murrue Ramius). One of several partly-written Gundam SEED fics kicking around in my files.
"The Last Night of the World" (Gundam SEED - Mu la Flaga/Murrue Ramius). Another Gundam SEED fic, one that began as a prompt in ye olde LiveJournal days. "I've Loved These Days" might have been a prototype, though they don't appear to have any text in common. Could in theory still get finished, maybe.
Valentine's ghosts (Gundam SEED Destiny - Andrew Waltfeld/Murrue Ramius). I'm just saying, Andy/Murrue would have been so much more interesting than the whole Neo thing in Destiny.
"Lion Passant" (Kingdom Hearts). Something something Leon as a failed Keyblade Bearer. The Kingdom Hearts franchise has rewritten its own lore at least three times since I originally had the idea, I can't imagine I'll ever continue it now.
"Vigil" (KotOR - Carth Onasi/f!Revan). Carth/Revan retrospective somewhere around the tomb of Naga Sadow on Korriban.
"Semper Fidelis" (KotOR/KotOR II - Carth Onasi/f!Revan). Post-Sith Lords Carth/Revan resolution fic.
"Clarity" (KotOR II). Atton Rand backstory study from the POV of that one nameless Jedi.
"A Simple Game of Cards" (KotOR II - Atton Rand/Jedi Exile). Spoilers: it is never a simple game of cards. Turns out someone already did it with more or less the same twist I had in mind.
the besieged base fic (Mass Effect - f!Shepard/Kaidan Alenko). A fic rendition of the "Besieged Base" mission from the first Mass Effect.
"Get Up, Jonah" (Mass Effect). I woke up thinking about Turkish drummers. Didn't take long; I don't know much about Turkish drummers. Virmire, before the other shoe drops.
"Long Night" (Mass Effect). Ashley on Virmire.
"My Heart Dances" (Mass Effect - f!Shepard/Kaidan Alenko). Liara POV of Shepard/Kaidan.
"No Way Out" (Mass Effect - f!Shepard/Kaidan Alenko). Heading up the Citadel during the ME1 endgame.
"Right Here, Right Now" (Mass Effect - f!Shepard/Kaidan Alenko). An ME1 epilogue / pre-ME2 sort of fic.
"While the Night is Still Young" (Mass Effect - f!Shepard/Kaidan Alenko). Shepard/Kaidan en route to Ilos.
Apparently I had approximately a million little Mass Effect shortfic ideas I never finished and in some cases never started. Apparently they're all for the first game. (I think there was a Thane idea or two for ME2 that I just never started on at all. RIP.)
"To Absent Friends" (Tiger and Bunny). Sad, sad futurefic of an elderly Pao-Lin reflecting on the deaths of all the other heroes over the years.

To Cry for the Moon Part 5 (Moon Knight x Female Eternal!Reader)
Author’s Note: This one is a longer one, and I might be the only update until Monday. If I have time to finish part 6 after I get home from Mean Girls the Musical I might get it out tomorrow but I cannot guarantee it. But enjoy part 5!

Part 5: Unsteady Times
Y/N was mid-tour when the world around them started to shake. People began to panic, screaming in fear of the large objects and glass displays. She did her best to usher the group away from looming artifacts. As much as she knew she wasn't supposed to use her powers around people unless deviants were around she was already preparing to call on her wings to shield them as best as she could. A nearby statue standing nearly 10 feet tall swayed as the shaking seemed like it might never stop, but in reality could only be a few moments, less than a minute even. The slightly eroded base even on a secured pedestal might not hold much longer. She called on as much strength her cosmic powers allowed her without her armor or her wings to stop it from toppling over. When the shaking stopped and the statue stilled, she let go and looked around. The tour stopped as well. She did her best to calm them, but the group opted to leave. She could understand that. As she headed back from the lobby she decided to see how the gift shop, and a certain employee, had fared.  She managed to catch Steven's attention from the entrance of the gift shop. He was busy straightening a few toppled displays, stopping when he saw her. She gave him a wave and a thumbs up. He grinned and returned the gesture. It was really all they had a chance to do because of the chaotic nature of it all. But it was enough. Steven would take Marc's jabs about being a lovesick puppy because of how happy he was that she'd come to check on them. Marc was just glad she wasn't crushed under one of those giant statues she loved. That was something they both agreed on.
As she walked back toward some of the more fragile artifacts she froze. She could see something moving, but it didn't make sense. She swore she saw a tall figure moving among the relics. It made Y/N shiver.
"Do you feel that?" One of the other guides asks. "Is there a draft?"
"I…maybe, I don't know," Y/N replies, glancing back at the poorly lit room that was lit more for dramatic effect than convenient surveillance. She swore she saw movement again.
"Are you alright?" Her coworker asks, stepping beside her.
"What? Oh yeah, guess I'm still a bit shaken up. Not every day you wonder if you might get done in by a replica of a temple column or take a sarcophagus lid to the head."
"If we did, I'd demand hazard pay," the guide said.
"Agreed," Y/N chuckled.
But she couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. Her shift was almost over but something made her step into the Ennead exhibit.
She walks up to a set of statues, sighs, and walks over to a recreation of a temple wall. She stops in front of a god not featured throughout most of the exhibit. The lunar deity, Khonshu.
"I've either lost my mind after all these years or you're here for some reason. Part of me hopes you really are." She glances back at the statues of the Ennead. "I know they banished you, and I was sad to hear that, but just so you know, I'm glad you still exist."
Her phone rings and she turns to leave. A grin on her face when she feels a slight breeze around her.
"Hey Sprite," she says as she answers her phone. She closes the door to the exhibit and heads towards the lobby. "I'm on my way out now."
Ancient Egypt:
Ma'at smiles as she watches her fellow Eternals mingle among the Egyptian people. It is unusual for a god or goddess to walk among the people but Ma'at was not a normal goddess. Her task was to directly judge the hearts of humanity. She had not only aided the humans in defining order, aiding in creating standards of judgment, laws and creating a balance with not only the world around them but in themselves. A system of truth and justice that would grow with the people. And grow it did. It grew into a kingdom, but humans and Eternals were not the only beings. Gods joined them. The Eternals welcomed the gods and their devotions to the kingdom they created. The bond between gods and Eternals was forged around a single feather. The feather of truth was offered on behalf of the Eternals and the people to aid the gods in their process so long as the gods agreed to maintain the systems already established, mainly the judgment of humanity and their hearts in this world and the next. The Eternal Y/N, having been the one to offer the feather and her services as the creator of the system to Osiris. In return he deemed her Ma'at, Goddess of judgment, truth, justice and order. Y/N happily accepted the position. That was how she found herself the liaison between the Ennead and the Eternals. The avatars of the gods, good and loyal servants of the deities, were always happy for her assistance. As the only god or goddess without the need of an avatar, a lot of communication went through Ma'at. The Eternals and other avatars helped, but like all things Y/N did, it was a balancing act she eagerly accepted. It was part of her mission after all. Though she would often buttheads with the more stubborn gods. Primary those that also claimed to enact judgment and justice. Osiris would defer to Ma'at more often than not to deal with stubborn deities. Requiring Ma'at to often reside in the temple as Khonshu and often Ammit quarrel. It was a tad bit tedious but all part of the job. But nothing ever lasts. As the kingdom celebrated the Eternals eradicating the deviants in the area. It meant it was time for the Eternals to move on. The humans were safe from deviants and the kingdom was thriving. Osiris had agreed, as well as most of the gods, that Ma'at is allowed to go without losing their backing. If only because she would never truly be gone. She would always be there in part. Her feather and the scales used to judge the hearts of humanity were forged from her energy. Forged by her hands with the aid of Phastos. It allowed her to be aide Osiris in his judgment no matter where she may be in the world. Her power continued to flow through the feather. But not all the gods were thrilled about their departure. That was how despite the joyous celebration going on throughout the kingdom, Y/N was unable to join her fellow Eternals. Instead, she found herself once more in the temple.
"Khonshu, this was always how it was going to be," she told him. "This is my mission, granted by the celestial that formed the world you claim to protect. To defy our creator, to defy his command, is beyond betrayal. Do you wish for my immortal life to be so swiftly ended? Do you not see that I've already done the most I can do? A part of my very being binds my power here. You may believe my power is as vast as the cosmos itself, as vast as the evening sky, but I have my limits. Arishem has seen to that. I cannot defy him."
"So you abandon us," Khonshu states.
"Are you even listening to me? You will still have my power, my judgment. You will have everything you need for your precious justice to continue. You will still be able to protect the travelers of the night. You do not need me."
"Then leave!" Khonshu spat. "You are no god. You are a servant, a slave to a being you never get to see."
"Says the god that cannot be perceived by most mortals beyond a gust of wind. Only the gods and avatars can see you. Which one of us is bound by limitations, Bird?" She retorts.
"My avatar is bound to me. He serves me." Khonshu says. "And as you said, you are no longer needed. So you waste my time." With that, he vanishes in a gust of wind and sand.
"Goodbye my friend," Y/N spoke to the night. Hoping the breeze and the night sky would convey her message. No longer feeling jovial or wanting companionship. She bid the temple goodbye, assuring the gods she could always be reached. Just hold the feather and she would feel them. She could return if Arishem and Ajak allowed. She returned to the Domo to prepare her heart for leaving the one place since Olympia she felt truly at home. Only bothering to join her fellow Eternals when they were called by Ajak to the main chamber of the Domo. She announced their next destination. Y/N had only been half-listening. She nods as the other agree to the new destination and they finally depart.
A hand finds her shoulder. She looks up to see Ajak's gentle smile. "One day your heart will feel whole again, until then you still have ours, your fellow Eternals. Arishem is proud of you. The mission continues and you have done well, Y/N/N. Khonshu will see with time. We serve the same power. The cosmos that gives him his sight, flows through you, through all of us. You will never truly leave them. Take heart, my dear. You are proof the celestials provide for all." Ajak brushes a strand of hair from the younger Eternal face. "Your heart forever beats for the sands of time, they will all see that eventually. Even the gods cannot stop time."
Modern Times:
Steven had managed to make it to the last bit of Dane’s birthday party. Apologizing that Donna made him stay late again for inventory.
“Next time just drag, Y/N/N along, she loves that boring stuff,” Sprite laughs.
“Just glad you could make it,” Sersi smiles, Dane agrees with a nod.
“Want me to take Donna down a peg again, you know I loooove to see her get all annoyed but not be able to do anything because both the tour guide and translation departments adore me.”
“So humble,” Sprite laughs.
“They do, don’t they,” Steven chuckles. “Thank you, love, but I can handle Donna.”
“No you can’t but not like she can hear me,” Marc states from the reflection of a pint glass.
“Be nice, Y/N,” Sersi says. “No need to piss off Steven’s boss, she might take it out on him.” Sersi gave her a look that Y/N and Sprite referred to as the ‘You know how people get’ look.
“Alright, we can’t have that now can we,” Y/N straightens the lapel of Steven’s jacket. “I won't antagonize your boss. I’ll be perfectly cordial as always.” Earning a snicker from Sprite.
“I can be nice, I just hate the way she belittles him. Next time I see it, I’m going to HR.”
“You really don’t need to defend me,” Steven says. “It’s nothing new.”
Y/N pouts slightly. “Don’t need to, but I’m going to,” She patted his cheek and grinned. “Someone has to after all.”
“Did you feel that earthquake earlier?” Steven said eager to change the topic.
"Yes, it was quite shocking. The poor students in my lecture were terrified."
"Poor kids," Steven says.
"Poor everyone," Y/N says. “Scared the hell out of the tour group I had. One lady screamed bloody murder. Glad none of the artifacts shifted too far. Made me wonder if standing the sarcophagi vertically in their displays was a good idea. Even if it didn’t crack, the glass might and that would have been a disaster. Then again, Sersi had a fossil nearly crush a kid, so I guess my group got lucky.” She left out the part that both she and Sersi had used their powers to protect people. The guys didn't need to know.
“Y/N!” Sersi slaps her arm. “She’s fine, a bit shaken, but she was fine. Is that why you got stuck on inventory? The earthquake shake up the gift shop?”
“It did, luckily not anything too valuable broke,” Steven nodded.
“Donna better not take it out of your check, she would blame you for tectonic plates shifting, or whatever caused it.”
“Enough about Donna, this is supposed to be a party, i’nnit?” Sprite groaned.
When the party was over they all headed out.

To Cry for the Moon Part 10 (Moon Knight x Female Eternal!Reader)
Author's Note: The one is going to be tough, but I promise it will pay off. We actually do have a plan for this story.
Please do not take, copy, or translate without talking to me first. Reblogs, likes, and comments are encouraged. But anything else please message me first. I work really hard on these, I was a writing apprentice for a comic book writer and learned this craft despite having issues I had to overcome, like essential tremors, a mild reading disability, and aphantasia. I put my heart and soul into everything I write. Thank you.
The story idea, and most of the voicemails to Steven & Marc were written by @jupitersmoon167 (the original post I saw is here!) Also realized I should probably add content warnings, so I did and tagged them.

Part 10: Seemingly the End
After getting off the plane painful memories came rushing back. Y/N had not been back here since the Eternals separated. It was a painful memory but she pushed through it. After taking a short trip to a small city, Y/N pulls out her phone. She makes one last call before they venture too far from the jungle-surrounded city to have signal. She calls Steven and isn't surprised to hear his outgoing voicemail again.
“Screw the theatrics, I don’t even know if you’re even going to get this. We’re in the middle of the god damn Amazon because Druig thought it would be a grand fucking idea to place his cult here of all places. He’s a stubborn bastard, but if we’re gonna pull this off we need him. I'm sorry, Marc, Steven. I am so sorry. Osiris can tell you what is happening, all Khonshu has to do is ask. Khonshu was more right about me than he could have ever known. And well, I meant it earlier when I said you should talk to your dad, you uh, never know when he’ll kick the bucket, so to speak. I miss you guys, I wish I could talk-” she lost signal as they got further from the city. She hoped enough of the message went through. She put her phone away and took to the air to attempt to narrow down Druig's commune location.
Her feet touch the ground as they near the modest commune. She could feel the people around them. Their hearts are kind and welcoming. She watches the people around her as the others talk. They all feel like good people. She can feel their loyalty. It's quiet and content. Her focus is drawn and she feels herself truly smile for the first time since leaving London when Druig finally walks out.
"Please," Druig says with a smirk, "Make yourselves at home."
He studied Y/N as she got closer. "Who do I need to control off a cliff for taking the stars from your eyes?" Druig asks as she finally near him.
"Wouldn't kill him, or them, if you did, but you'd probably still enjoy it," Sprite told him. Druig raised a brow.
"Doesn't matter," Y/N says, knowing it was so much more than her issues with Marc and Steven. "It's good to see you." It wasn't a lie. She always missed Druig. He was more her brother than the others. Druig could always understand how overwhelming her powers were. How being surrounded by people was a blessing and a curse. He could feel the minds around him like a constant buzz. Y/N always felt the same thing but instead of minds, it was hearts. Having to sit back and watch the wars and conflicts as time went on weighed on her heart as it did his mind. They had an understanding of things that the others just couldn't comprehend. The heart and the mind were vital to human existence after all. The only difference was he could control minds, she had to judge hearts as is. And honestly, he thinks he was given the easier task.
Druig rolls his eyes but hugs her, he didn't need to read her mind to know how broken she was. "Told you that you should have come with me. They would have loved you. No one would have broken your heart." He gestures to the members of his commune.
"Ask me again after you talk to everyone else," she tells him.
"I might just hold you to it." Druig grins.
"I might just let you." Y/N hugs him again.
Druig chuckles as he pulls away, and goes to the main hall with her just behind him.
She knew he was stubborn but she had hoped he wouldn't resist them so much. He gets under everyone's skin so easily sometimes. And Ikaris made it easy. It didn't help Sersi's phone went off. It made Y/N want to check hers, but she knew she wouldn't have anything. Marc didn't want anything to do with her. No need to waste the battery. Instead she reached out with her powers to feel the community Druig had cultivated for years. They were so content. It wasn't easy knowing if the team failed, these people would die. Her attention was drawn back by Ikaris saying Druig was wasting their time. Druig hadn't agreed to join them. She wasn't really surprised. She had been hopeful, but not unrealistic.
Y/N follows Druig out. "You told me to ask you to stay again," he says.
"I did," Y/N replied.
"Would you?" He asks.
"Not if it means I'd just have to stay here and watch them all die without trying to stop it. Osiris and Isis believe we can stop it. I have let them down enough ready, I have to try."
"And you're here to convince me to help," he states.
"I'm here because I missed you and I would feel better if you were there. Is it so bad I wanted to see one of my best friends one last time before we all might die or get reset? Yes, I was hoping you would help us, but I'm not going to make you."
"You still wouldn't join me, would you? You love your human too much, the one that broke your heart. You could always bring him."
"His mind would drive you up a wall. They have at least 3 personalities and Khonshu in their head."
"Sounds crowded," Druig admits. "But does sound amusing. Haven't had a new challenge in centuries."
"If you want a challenge then join us, forcing a celestial to sleep, I don't think you could find a bigger challenge."
"I see what you did there," Druig says, shaking his head.
"And you know me too well to know I can't just let humanity end because of Arishem's lies. I've always been willing to die for the truth, only this time I genuinely might."
"Try not to," he says. Before they can say much more, they hear Sersi shouting. Deviants. Deviants had found them. Y/N takes off running, summoning her wings as she did. She flies and joins Kingo in trying to buy the others enough time to get the villagers clear of the fight. As Kingo focuses on keeping one of them busy, Y/N tries to keep them away from where Sersi is leading the people. She shouts for Sersi when the other Eternal is hit while trying to fortify the building. Y/N immediately launches a round of feathers at the beast to draw it away from her friend. Her attacks are joined by rifle fire and her heart sinks when she sees a number of villagers under Druig’s control shooting at the beast. She goes to volley another attack when Druig jumps over the deviant and shoots at it.
“Seriously?!” She shouts as she drops down to block the creature's tail as it swipes at the humans. Her wings took the brunt of the blow. She hopes that Druig is paying enough attention so that she doesn’t end up with a bullet in her back while trying to defend his people. She doesn’t even have enough time between blows to get a hit in. She focuses everything she has on staying ahead of the deviant's tail. She was starting to think that splitting her powers may have actually been a mistake when she feels herself losing her footing. Unable to get into the air was limiting what she could do. She tries to summon a blade but the deviant shifts faster than she can, wraps its tail around her leg and slams her into the dirt, before she can get her wings back up to protect herself, the jaws of the beast latch onto her side. Ripping a scream from her as it does.
The only reason it doesn’t kill her is that Sersi traps it in a metallic tree and Druig pulls her out from the shocked creature’s gaping maw. She pushes him away. She doesn’t have the energy to tell him how stupid he was being. She left Sersi to talk sense into him. Y/N took to the sky to get a better chance for an attack. The pain in her side was unbelievable, but she focused on attacking as the deviant broke free from its improvised cage. She’d never been so glad to see Ikaris in her life when he shows up to take on the deviant now heading for Druig. He took the beast out swiftly with his eye beams, before going after another. She tried to give him aerial support, but it was becoming harder and harder to build up enough energy for an attack. She feels water hit her as Sersi battles a deviant by hand. Y/N is just as shocked as the rest of the group when Sersi transforms the deviant into a tree.
Y/N begins to feel her wings fade and flicker, and her vision grows fuzzy around the edges. She knows she won’t last much longer. Her heart is beating too fast and the bite on her side has already soaked her shirt and jacket in blood. She knew her phone was probably smashed in her pocket. There went her chance at telling Steven and Marc goodbye. She tries to lower herself gently to the ground but her knees buckle and she falls. She hears shouting and feels hands on her. They move her and she stares at the tops of the trees. She wishes she could see more of the sky. She loves the sky. She loves flying. It felt natural. She wishes she could see the moon, one last time. To know that maybe, just maybe she'd get to say goodbye. She tried, but all that came out was a choked sob. She wanted to tell them all that she would see them in the next life. It wasn't until hands gripped her face and brushed back her tears that she focused on the figures now blocking small bits of the canopy.
She tried to reach for them and her blood-soaked hand was pulled into Sersi's own. She shook her head at Druig as he tried to help her. Her other hand gestures for them to come closer. They do. She summons up as much energy as she can. "Save them for me."
"We will," Sersi says.
She leans her head up with the last strength she has and bumps Druig's forehead earning a sad laugh. Her head drops back down but he returns the gesture.
"You've got nothing to worry about now," he says. Her strength is gone, she closes her eyes and knows it's over. A fleeting thought of goodbye and then darkness.
Druig was on his feet as soon as he knew she was gone. He looked at the destruction around them and the blood on his hands. Sersi squeezes the limp hand in hers before she stands up. She needs to think. She has to call Steven. Sersi feels another piece of her heart shatter. But before she can do anything she's called because Y/N isn't the only loss. Gilgamesh had fallen defending Thena. And Thena was inconsolable.
Egyptian Underworld
Osiris hears shouting. He approaches the scales as the chains of the plate holding the feather break. He picks up the feather and it feels wrong. Very wrong. Too much like a normal feather and the ethereal glow dims slightly. That was not good. He gently sets it aside. "Time to intervene," he says and gestures for Anubis to follow him as he opens the gates and they pass through. Summoning their avatars he opens the path to Y/N. "Oh little feather, what did you do." He nods at Anubis who has his avatar carefully lift Y/N and they return to the temple. "Fix her up as best you can. Her master may have forsaken her, but we shall not. Teach those Celestials that they have no more power over death than we do."
Osiris was quick to retrieve the feather of truth, encouraged by the slight glow that it still held. It was her, she had told him. Now he would use it to put things back the way they should be. A devoted goddess like Ma'at deserved at least that. If she was too far gone and beyond his reach, he would have Anubis do what he was best at, what he was worshipped for. But Osiris felt it would work. They would not be saying goodbye to Earth. It was not their time yet.
Ruins of Druig's Commune
"Where is she?" Kingo asks as he goes to retrieve Y/N to place her alongside Gilgamesh.
"What?" Druig pushes past him to find Y/N's body gone.
"You're sure she was dead?" Ikaris asks and earns a vicious glare from Druig.
"Yes," Druig spat.
"Maybe an animal-"
"Don't-" Druig warns.
"Druig," Kingo starts.
"Then we have to find her," Sersi says.
Sprite and Thena stay with Gilgamesh while the others search and find nothing. No signs of tracks, no trace. Nothing. They eventually decide that they had to give Gilgamesh a proper send-off. And Sersi still had something she needed to do.
Once Sersi was able to clean her hands she found her phone and found Steven's number. She calls it. They don't answer, though she wasn’t surprised. They probably thought Y/N had borrowed her phone to call. So she left them a message she knew would destroy them if and when they do get it.
 "Steven, or Marc, it's Sersi, I…I hate having to do this in a voicemail. I would rather do this in person, or even in a real phone call, I…if we had more time I would do this in person, but we lost Y/N. Part of me hopes Khonshu knows, she always found it annoying when he boasted about knowing all that happened under the moon." Sersi let out a shaky laugh. "She…well, she fought to the end. She loved humanity, she loved you all. She loved you, both of you. She would want you to know."
Sersi hung up and just hoped the message got through. But she would find a way to reach them, to save them, and all of humanity. Druig was onboard now. They would end this for all of them. Their deaths would mean something.
Temple of the Gods
The first thing that registers to Y/N's mind is the cold. She feels cold, the cold stone beneath her makes her shiver.
"Welcome back, Ma'at," the voice of Isis' avatar says. "The goddess will be glad you pulled through." Y/N goes to speak but is hushed. She hears footsteps approaching followed by a whispered conversation she cannot process. Y/N finally opens her eyes but puts up no fight as she is lifted. The avatar of Anubis sets her back down but this time on a soft blanket that the goddess' avatar gently wraps around her. "You have been through quite the journey, and you need rest. Sleep now."
The next time she wakes Osiris is there, his avatar looms above her as he updates her on what has happened. Her family had lost another soul. Gilgamesh had fought and earned a warrior's death and were it up to Osiris he would be rewarded in his afterlife. Sadly, Gilgamesh, like Ajak, was beyond his reach.
"But your feather saved you," he told her. "Your commitment to serving humanity in this life and the next is what brought you back. Your strength will hopefully return with time, but your heart beats again, and when the time comes you will show the Celestials that we gods are not to be underestimated. He sat the feather gently beside her, the faint glow although weaker than before still shown. "You have earned more time, feather. I know you will use it wisely."
She wakes again in a bed with soft light shining through the open window. "You are safe," the voice of Osiris' avatar spoke. "You will find everything you need in this room. Bathroom, if you feel like you have the strength is through there." He gestures to an open door. "You are safe here. Osiris will summon you when the time comes."
"I need to call my family, to call-"
"If you wish to help them you will not waste your energy," another voice spoke. She recognized the avatar for Horus. "You wish to join your friends again to fix things, do you not?"
"I do," she admits.
"Then do not waste your energy or tax your healing system with concerns that won't matter. You do not yet know if you can join them or if they will succeed. Why make them suffer your death twice?"
"And Khonshu has not graced us with his presence, even Taweret is surprised, but no need to worry the old bird over things he cannot change. Heal first, then you can right your wrongs."

To Cry for the Moon Part 12 (Moon Knight x Female Eternal!Reader)
Author's Note: This is another part that exists because @jupitersmoon167 has the best ideas and it was too awesome to not write. This one tugs on the heartstrings much like the last one, but we figured out a way to get to a happy ending. This will be angst to fluff, hurt to comfort eventually, just not quite in this part. We are getting there I promise!

Part 12: Too Much, Too Fast
Makkari stops in her tracks when she sees a recognizable suit. She is supposed to be finding the point of emergence, and she did, but she found this scene too. The Moon Knight, ceremonial armor of Khonshu's avatar, in Egypt with some woman. Sersi and Ikaris had mentioned Moon Knight being Y/N’s boyfriend. Druig had been the one to mention that Moon Knight had broken Y/N’s heart and that she had a broken heart when she died. Without hesitation, she ran over and slammed him into a wall, her arm at his throat. The vigilante seemed to be taken off guard. She felt the vibrations of someone coming up behind her and quickly moved out of the way and shoved them back before going at Moon Knight again. She feels a blade connect with her armor and she kicks out at the figure sending them flying back. She feels the Moon Knight shout, but with his mask on she cannot understand him. It continues like that until Khonshu slams his staff against the ground and the wind swirls around them.
“That is enough, Eternal!” Khonshu shouts but she cannot hear him or understand him. But the wind has Makkari turning and glaring. She speeds over picks up a rock and throws it at the deity’s skull. She begins to sign. “How could you let this happen? How could you do this to her?”
Khonshu sighs. “It has been too long Eternal, I do not know what you are saying.”
Makkari glares at him and then at the two avatars still in a fighting stance but holding off. Makkari gets in Moon Knights' face and shoves him again.
Marc’s brain seems to catch up to what Khonshu had said. “She’s an eternal, like Y/N?” He asks.
“Yes, they were very close.”
“And she can see you like the others?
“But she cannot hear us. This particular eternal can feel vibrations but cannot hear. She is impossibly fast, and she seems to be quite angry with you.”
“Me? She threw a rock at you!”
Makkari was getting angry at being ignored so she shoved Marc again.
“Hey, quit it!” Marc says but his mask means she cannot understand him. Makkari throws her hands up in frustration before gripping the edge of the hood around the mask and tugs. “What- Why-” He is cut off as the suit shifts and Steven drops the mask. Makkari’s hands fall and her brows furrow at the change the suit makes. “You knew Y/N, you’re Makkari. She would talk about you with Sprite and Sersi.” Steven knew he made a mistake when her eyes narrowed at Y/N’s name. Makkari gripped his jacket by the lapels. And before he knows it his eyes are being forced to adjust to a dark room. When absolute chaos breaks out. Makkari is immediately attacked by Ikaris. She shoves Steven to the floor as Kingo blocks the shot from Ikaris and tells her to run. She does. Marc immediately takes over to try and figure out what is going on and the mask returns. Ready to fight even though he is pretty sure he doesn't know why but he figures any side that Sersi is on he should probably back that side. He is very confused as his presence is mostly ignored and Ikaris threatens to kill them all. Even more surprised when Sprite uses an illusion to help them leave. Marc is too cautious to say anything and just lets everything play out before him. He watches as the one who saved Makkari leaves with another guy. He doesn't say anything until Makkari returns, thankfully with Layla. She looks even more confused than he does.
"What the hell just happened?" Layla asks.
"I was wondering the same thing," Marc says.
"Marc," Sersi starts. "I know Makkari just dropped you into an absolute mess but I need you and your…friend," she looks at Layla. "To trust me on this. We are in the middle of the end of the world and we have to stop it. So I need you two to just hang out."
"Just hang out, your friend shows up in the middle of us retrieving a relic, slams me against a wall, drags me here, and you expect Layla and I to just hang out?"
“Layla? Your ex?" Sersi asks, shock clear on her face. Y/N had just died and Marc was already spending time with his ex-wife.
"Okay whatever you are thinking it's not that," Marc says. But before Sersi can respond she looks over to Makkari who had already had Phastos and Druig explain what happened with Ikaris. And is now frantically signing to Druig. She sees Druig glance at Marc. And while signing asks, “Him, this is him?” Druig looks again before he squares his shoulders and turns towards Marc. Marc steps forward to put himself between the man he doesn't know and Layla.
“Druig,” Sersi begins to caution the mind-controlling Eternal.
“So you’re one of the ones who broke our Y/N/N’s heart? Making trouble in her desert now, can’t seem to leave things be can you.” Druig’s eyes turn to gold but a shove at his shoulders stops him.
“Druig!” Sersi shouts. “You are not mind-controlling them. Wait, were you Makkari looking for him this whole time?"
“No, but he's here now isn't he and with his ex-wife no less. He’s lucky we’re in here or I’d drop him off a cliff, just like I told Y/N I would.”
“Where the hell are we?” Marc says when he glances at Sersi.
Sersi answers, "This is our ship, the Domo,” Sersi says. "And like I said we are a bit busy right now trying to save the world from being destroyed by a cosmic being from inside the planet."
“And we are just supposed to stay here?!” Marc shouts. Makkari pins him to the wall. The room fills with shouting.
“Makkari here doesn’t like your attitude,” Druig states. Sersi moves to pull Makkari away but stops when Druig looks at her. “I’ll handle it.”
“Druig,” Sersi starts.
“He’ll live, but only because Y/N wouldn’t want any harm to come to him. I’ll do it for her.” Druig says. He gets into Makkari’s line of sight and tells her to let go. Makkari moves to stand next to him. “Marc, right? That’s your name. You see Makkari isn’t the only one with an issue with your attitude. Y/N was our best friend,” he gestures between himself and Makkari. “We spent thousands of years together. I cannot say I’m surprised Khonshu’s avatar would have such a terrible temper. He always loved to pick a fight with her.”
“I’d take it back if I could,” Marc admits.
“That’s the thing, you can’t she’s gone. I was there. I pulled her out of the deviant's mouth myself. Or maybe I should just show you the whole thing." He starts to put the deviant attacking Y/N and her scream into Marc's head with his powers. Then all hell breaks loose again.
The Moon Knight shifts, his mask goes up and it turns into an all-out fight. Makkari uses her speed and knocks the Moon Knight back, nearly earning a crescent dart to the shoulder. Sersi and Phastos take on Moon Knight by hand but try to keep it strictly defensive. Thena joins them. Drawing her blades as the others let her take over trying to subdue the Moon Knight. Layla takes advantage of the distraction and draws her own blades and goes to back up the Moon Knight. She only gets a few hits in before she is subdued by Makkari's speed. Phastos apologizes as he helps to secure her. Once pinned and secured by the restraints that Phastos seemingly created out of thin air. Layla sees Thena draw her sword up and the warrior goddess goes to pin the Moon Knight back. Druig steps in to put an end to it. He had started it after all. He forces Moon Knight to drop the mask and he hears Layla gasp when she sees the eyes continue glowing gold and not white.
"Interesting, this must be the third one," Druig says. He moves to stand before the subdued vigilante and studies him before he turns to Layla. "Do you know anything about this one?" He asks her, his eyes glowing the same gold as he continues to control the vigilante. She shakes her head. "Just let them go," Layla pleads.
Druig turns back to the Moon Knight. He can feel the mind battle against his, but it's almost too easy for Druig to remain in control. He has 7,000 years of practice at this. "Bring one of the other two out or I will," Druig threatens and eases back with his powers to the edge of the present consciousness. “If you do, I’ll let them have control back.” He remains at the edge of their fractured mind and feels it push against him one last time before it shifts to a mind that he had felt earlier. It was Marc's consciousness. It was a strange feeling, but he did as he had promisied. He withdrew his power completely.
"There fight ended," Druig said before going to stand next to Makkari.
"Marc?" Layla asks. His eyes snap to her.
"What happened?" He asks her, confused about the scene before him. Layla's hands were bound with what looked to him like magic.
"Let them go," Druig says while signing for Makkari's sake. "Should be fine now." Phastos apologizes again as he releases Layla. He goes to keep working on the UniMind. Thena looks to Sersi. Sersi nods and Thena lets Marc go. Her blades disappear but she remains in case trouble begins again. Now that some semblance of calm has returned Sersi sighs. Everything has happened so fast. She goes to apologize but Druig starts talking first.
"You clearly have a type, Marc Spector," Druig says. "Winged, Egyptian spitfires." Druig chuckles. They watch as Layla and Marc both take a defensive stance. Druig holds his hands up. "And I won't get back into your mind unless I have to. I won't hurt you either. Y/N would find a way to kick my arse in the next life if I did." He takes a seat on the bench near the wall. "You have to understand. I tried to get Y/N to stay with me so I could keep her from getting hurt 500 years ago. I asked her again right before the deviants attacked. She said no. She was too determined to fix everything and get back to you. And Makkari and I, we weren't too pleased to find you with your ex-wife in the one place that Y/N had refused to join me for. The one place she always felt home outside of Olympia, which we now know never existed." He looks at Sersi. "That is why we got a bit pushy.” He looks back at Marc. “Although we still have questions, your ex-wife is an avatar too? Did Y/N know you guys work together still? Not that it matters now, but what can I say I have a curious mind."
Layla glares at him before turning to Marc. "Are you okay? You blacked out again didn't you?"
"I did," Marc nods.
"He said it was the third alter," Layla tells him gesturing to Druig.
"His name's Jake Lockley, he's very angry and very American, also Spanish,"  Druig tells them. "And his mind is dark, and angry, haven't felt one like that in over 500 years." Druig sighs but admits, "Y/N wasn't wrong, your mind is a minefield, but she wouldn't want me to mess with it. She liked you too much."
Sersi shakes her head and turns to the pair of avatars. "I'm sorry, Marc, Layla. That was not supposed to happen."
"Sersi, there is something I need to know," Marc looks at her.
Sersi is surprised he is not putting up a bigger fight. "You are owed a lot of explanations," Sersi says eyeing Makkari. "But ask away."
"Are there more deviants?" He asks
Sersi is a bit surprised but she remembers what had set the Jake personality off. Druig showed them Y/N losing the fight with the deviant. Her tone fills with pain and regret as she answers, "Ikaris killed the one that caused Y/N's death. Kingo and I both killed other ones, but the lead one, the one that killed Ajak and Gilgamesh, he’s the same one that you saw in London, and a few others got away. But that leader, Ikaris and Thena said he changed."
"He spoke," Thena adds. "They have never done that before."
"It was like it took the powers of Ajak and Gilgamesh and made itself more humanoid, more sentient," Sersi says. "It threatened to kill us for killing the other deviants."
"I want a chance at it," Marc says.
"Absolutely not," Sersi replies.
"You can't be serious," Layla says.
"They took Y/N from us, Layla,” Marc explains. “Steven barely talks to me anymore. I have to make it up to him. I have to do this."
"She couldn't beat one of these with help from all of them," Layla says, gesturing around her. "What makes you think you can survive that fight?"
"Because as long as I have the suit, it can't kill me," Marc replies. “And you’ve seen this Jake guy at work. He is nearly unstoppable. Even Harrow and his team couldn’t stop that part of us.”
"It might be able to drain Khonshu’s power too. A risk I cannot allow you to take Marc," Sersi says. "I need my team to be focused on stopping the giant celestial inside this planet from emerging and killing every single living thing on this planet. We need Druig to put it back to sleep until we can figure out what else we can do. The deviants we will deal with when we have to, but the emergence is here and we have to prioritize."
"They killed Y/N," Marc says. "Do you really think I am just going to let that go?"
"Yes, because she told me to save you. She lay there dying and told us to save you. To save humanity. I won't let you take away my friend's dying wish. You have to live. Humanity has to live. If we fail she and the others die for nothing."
"If the whole world ends then why does it matter if I die trying to take down the monsters that killed her," Marc argues.
"You would go after them without us?" Sersi asks.
"If it's the only chance I've got. I'm sure Khonshu would agree."
"I cannot believe I'm saying this," Sersi says. "Stay with us, we stop the emergence and we will help you find them."
"Deal," Marc says.
"Marc," Layla says, she can't believe what she was hearing. "You don't get to go on a suicide mission."
"We saved the world from Harrow and Ammit, Layla. Why not help save it again? If we don't then what was the point of stopping it the first time?
"You don't have to do anything you don't want to, Layla," Sersi assures her. "We can take you home and we will handle everything."
"So I just go home while my ex-husband gets himself killed and I have to deal with him dying again. And I'm supposed to live with that? I don't think so."
"Layla," Marc starts.
"Nope, you don't get to die on me again. Steven either. So I guess I'm in."
Thena can appreciate the vengeance Marc wants. She feels the same way. “Then you two will stay with me, the deviant has been tracking us, and I plan to deal with it. We want the same thing.” She looks at Sersi, “I will keep them alive, it is what both Y/N and Gilgamesh would want.”
“You’re sure that is a good idea?” Sersi asks.
“If they don’t show up we will help with Ikaris,” Thena says. “But you have to admit, we all know what the avatars are capable of, we have let them and the other heroes do too much of the work for too long. Why not join forces, like the old days.”
"Well if they are staying they can at least help," Druig says. "Look, if I’m gonna get myself killed going up against Ikaris, we’ll need to have a backup plan. They might help but you know Ikaris won't make this easy."
“All of our powers, even if they’re amplified, are not enough to kill a Celestial, so…” Phastos says as he contributes to the discussion he has been half listening to.
“Well, Sersi did turn a Deviant into a tree,” Druig says.
“I’m sorry, what?”
“You didn’t wanna tell me that?
Makkari signs, “You’ve never been able to do it before.”
“I don’t know how it happened, okay?” Sersi tells them, “And I’m pretty sure I couldn’t do it again."
“Well, now is the time to try, don’t you think?” Phastos asks.
“Phastos, that deviant is dead,” Sersi defends. “Our plan is to put Tiamut to sleep, not to kill it.”
Sersi looks at all of them trying to find someone that might back her up. “I can’t kill a Celestial.”
“Sersi,” Phastos starts.
“We can’t!” Sersi insists, clearly stressed by the idea. “We can’t.”
Marc had a feeling if Steven was fronting he would want to try and comfort Sersi and he almost lets him, but Druig seems to have the same idea.
“It’s okay, Sersi,” Druig assures her, “I got this.”
Marc could see why he was one of Y/N’s closes friends. He was stubborn, Y/N had said he was in her voicemails. He follows Sersi to see her standing in front of a statue of what he could only assume was the celestial they served. He lets Steven take over.
“So this is who you serve?” Steven asks.
“Yes, this is Arishem, and we did serve him, until now,” Sersi tells him. “I didn’t see the lies right in front of me.”
“Who can blame you?” Steven says. “Neither did Y/N and seeing through lies was her main purpose.”
“And that tore Y/N apart. She went to Osiris and begged forgiveness. She felt horrible that her scales were useless now because she had no idea what the truth was anymore. She was my family, and she had lost her purpose. She didn’t know how to be the keeper of truth and justice when everything she knew was a lie. The gods apparently convinced her that her true purpose was to help us stop Tiamut. That her purpose was the same, she was just being too hard on herself. Part of me thinks even with her doubts she would have been a better choice to lead.”
“As much as I loved Y/N, she wouldn’t have wanted that. You were the one she looked to for guidance. When she found the kingdom gone and she didn’t have a home to go back to where did she go? To You, she tracked you down. Not Ajak, not Druig or Makkari, she went to you. Because you always kept everyone’s best interest at heart. You didn’t tell the Eternals to separate, that was Ajak it sounds like. You were the one Y/N went to. That has to mean something. Y/N, she…” Steven’s voice filled with even more emotions. “She told you to save humanity. She knew she could trust you to do it. She knew you would because you love humanity. You love this planet.”
“He’s right,” Thena says as she joins the. “Gilgamesh always told me that ‘When you love something, you protect it. It is the most natural thing in the world’. You have loved these people since the day we arrived. So, there is no one better to lead us now than you.”
“Exactly,” Steven says. “Y/N may not be here but we are, and this isn’t Layla’s first time saving humanity either. Marc’s first instinct when Makkari brought us here, and fighting broke out was to look at you. He looked to you because Y/N did, and Dane does, and that was all he needed to know. Whatever side you were on, that was the side we’d take.”
“You mean that?” Sersi asks.
“Of course he does,” Thena says, a slight grin on her face. “He was Y/N/N’s partner, do you really think she’d have had them in her life if he wasn’t honest?”
“Thanks,” Steven smiles at Thena. “You’re Thena, aren’t you? I’m Steven, you’ve met Marc, I guess. But, Y/N always said you had taught her a lot.”
“I bet she left out that most of it was how to use those blades she summoned when she wasn’t in the air. They made for great projectiles but not so well on the ground. We used to train so often. She wanted to be a better fighter. I always told her she already was, because she put her heart into it.”
“She put her heart into everything,” Sersi says.
“Which is why we aren’t giving up,” Thena states. “Ajak chose you for a reason.”
They all turn when they hear Phastos calling for Sersi.
“Oh, Sersi. We need you!” Phastos says when he finds them.
“I already gave that speech,” Thena says, “Steven too.”
“What?” Phastos looked confused but waved it off. "We just have to get the UniMind working and you will have enough power to stop it. "Sersi, the sphere inside of you, it creates a connection between you and Arishem. Maybe I can repurpose it and create a connection between, uh, well, all of us. And that can activate the UniMind.”
“Great,” Sersi says, glad they finally have a plan.
“Yeah,” Phastos says, “but um…I have to take it out of you.”
“Okay," Sersi says. “Do it.”
“Okay,” Phastos says.
“Don’t kill her,” Thena says.
“Is that a possibility?” Steven asks, shock on his face.
“Thena…” Sersi says. “Do it,” she repeats. Steven watches in aww as Phastos draws a golden sphere out of Sersi and it floats in the air. It reminded Steven of the golden scarab, mysterious and powerful.
“Will it work?” Sersi asks.
“It has to,” Phastos replies.

Part 11: Meanwhile in London
Dane knew this was not going to go well. Sure he knew Steven, but all he knew about Marc was that he had one hell of a temper and clearly didn't think things through. Dane had no idea how either of them would take it. Dane had texted Steven the morning after the deviant attack to let him know that he was taking care of Y/N's dog Noob. He hadn't gotten much more than an ok back.  But after Sersi had called him and told him that Y/N had died fighting a deviant. She had given him the impossible task of making sure the Moon Knight knew. So he had sent Steven another text. He texted him that Bas the cat had never really liked Dane and he didn't know when everyone would be back. He had asked Steven for help. Steven agreed. So that was why Dane was standing outside Steven's flat with Bas in a carrier and knocking on an unstable super-powered vigilante's door. Dane really hoped he survived this.
Dane had no idea which alter he was facing when the door opened.
"Thanks again, Mate," Dane says as he is let into the flat.
"It's nothing," Steven replies as he takes the carrier from him. Dane was relieved Steven was the one fronting. He watched as Steven coaxed the cat out, earning a meow Dane hoped was a positive sentiment from the cat. Dane decides it was now or never.
"You didn't happen to listen to the voicemail Sersi left you, did you?" Dane asks.
He didn't miss how Steven's posture went stiff and he glanced at the reflection in the fish tank for a moment before hesitantly answering.
"No, I haven't," Steven admits.
"Right, you…uh you may want to take a seat," Dane tells him. He could feel a shift in the air as the man before him set the cat on the floor.
"We'll listen to it when we listen to it," Marc's American accent tells him.
Dane shook his head. "I know you and Y/N weren't on the best-"
"You don't want to do this," Marc states.
"You aren't wrong, but-"
"Then don't," Marc cuts him off.
"I need you to listen to me," Dane says.
"We don't have to do shit," Marc says, his fingers flexing into a fist.
"Believe me, you will want to-"
"Really doubt that," Marc says barely letting Dane get a word in. Dane can read the writing on the wall. This is going to have to be blunt and probably painful.
"Y/N is dead," Dane says, his shoulders dropping as he did. He knew this would hurt Steven.
"What did you say?" Marc asks.
"Y/N, they got ambushed by deviants in the Amazon. There were too many of them and they had separated the group. Sersi said Y/N fought like hell to protect the people of the village. She saved a lot of people. But they couldn't save her. If it's any comfort she wasn't alone when she died. Sersi and Druig were with her. She-" Dane was cut off and startled when Marc's fist connected with the wall.
"You come here with that stupid cat and tell us this?" Marc asks. "Why should I believe you?"
"To be fair, you didn't answer Sersi's call. She thought it was only fair you knew. That Steven knew. Y/N-"
"Stop saying her name!" Marc shouted, his fist balled again. Something in Dane broke. Sersi had been devastated when she called. Two more people she loved were dead. One dying in her arms. One who died not knowing if the person she loved even still loved her. And that was unbelievably unfair considering how painful her death must have been. She died saving people and this asshole can't even handle hearing her name. That was utter bullshit.
"Because it's true!" Dane shouts back. "Look at this!" Dane goes over and slaps the metallic feather keychain on the table. "She was worried about all of us. So worried she put her powers into this. She said all we had to do was use and she would know. It had a faint glow from her powers. It damn near burned a hole in my pocket when she died. Look at it now. Nothing. It's just a normal keychain. She is gone. Her power is gone. If you want to hit me, fine go ahead, but it won't change the fact she cared about you and you broke her heart. It won’t change the fact that after you left she'd have collapsed in the street sobbing if it wasn't for Sersi. You hurt her and then her entire world went to pieces and you couldn't be bothered to pick up the bloody phone. She died thinking you hated her over something she was told would put her family at risk. What’s your excuse? She was protecting Sersi and Sprite because they didn't want anyone to know. Not even me, but you. No. She died wondering if you even care anymore. The sad part is, that she still loved you. She told Sprite over and over how much she missed you. They told her it would be okay because you couldn't possibly be that stupid. A living breathing goddess loved you and you left her crying in the bloody street. So forgive me for trying to break that news to my friend, Steven, in person. Yeah, the cat might be a bit of false pretenses but how else was I supposed to get in here." Dane took a deep breath and despite how weird it felt he addressed the room more than Marc. "Steven, I don't know if you can hear me but god, mate. She really did care about you, loved you. And this bellend might have taken her last few days away from you, but he can't take the fact she enjoyed every day she spent with you. You made her smile and feel appreciated. And the cat, she wouldn't want you to be alone. She'd want you to have something. So if this prick ever lets you have your phone, call me. Call Sersi. Call any of us if you need to."
Dane looked back at Marc, "And for the love of all that is holy, take care of that cat. You don't get to take anything else from my friends." With that Dane slammed the door and left. Leaving the loft painfully silent.
Marc took out Steven's phone, which had become their main phone. And looked at all the missed calls. There were so many missed calls. The only person he had talked to since the night the deviant attacked them was Layla. He had needed to talk to someone, in retrospect Layla may not have been his best choice. She said she would have smacked him in the head if she was there. He was an asshole and a hypocrite. And ignoring Y/N's calls was hurting everyone. But the main point she made is that his stubbornness was hurting Steven. Because Y/N was his friend first. Y/N was his coworker. Lies had destroyed their marriage, hell their marriage was built on them. They got past it and they work together now, but if he really liked this woman, then he'd quit being a dumbass and call her back. He had said he'd think about it.
Turns out he waited too long. So he opened his voicemail and immediately regretted it, but it was a trainwreck he couldn't stop. He listened as Y/N tried to keep them informed on where she was and what was going on. She had tried so hard to reach out to them. She tried to apologize. All he had needed to do was answer, but it was too late. He lost it listening to Sersi's voicemail. He just wanted to crawl back into his own mind and not exist for a while but he kept listening. The sad laugh and pain in Sersi's tone made it feel like someone reached in his chest and ripped out his cold heart more violently then when Taweret had done it. Because only someone cold-hearted and stupid let this happen. If he had kept his shit together he could have been there. Moon Knight could have taken whatever hit killed her and he'd have healed. She'd still be there. Steven wouldn't be in pain and they would be happy again. But he hadn't done that. He lost his temper. He let his shock and his past make him defensive. He'd wanted to protect themselves, but all he did was make it worse.
"Steven," Marc says as he turns to the fish tank but Steven takes over fronting and gingerly picks up the feather keychain off the table. He runs his finger along the edge carefully.
"Steven," Marc says from his reflection. Steven didn't respond, he just went over and picked up Bas and sat on the edge of his bed.
"You're not stupid," Steven told the cat. "And I'm sorry your mum won't be coming back."
Steven sniffled. "And he is a bellend."
"Steven," Marc tried again to get him to acknowledge him.
"You can stay here with me, just don't eat the fish, okay Bas?" Steven kept talking to the cat. "Like how Noob never ate you, we don't eat other pets."
Marc sighed. "I miss her too, you know, and now I can't even fix it."
"Do you hear that Bas? Sounds like someone who can't seem to learn from his mistakes. Layla might not hate us but she isn't here and your mum is gone now too. But you have me, Bas. You have me and that's okay."
The silent treatment continued until a gust of wind signaled Khonshu was there. "He can deal with his own mess, see you soon, Bas." Steven says before making Marc front.
"What is the feline doing here?" Khonshu gestures to Bas as she hops off Marc's lap and goes to make herself at home on one of the pillows.
"She lives here now," Marc says.
"Did the goddess forgive you?"
"She's not coming back Khonshu, the deviants got her."
"Explain," Khonshu demands.
"She's dead, Khonshu. A deviant killed her in the middle of the damned rainforest."
"This cannot be, Ma'at is strong, she-"
"Her power is gone," Marc says, picking up the feather keychain from where Steven had set it. "She'd powered this so that Dane could contact her. It is worthless now. No connection, no power. Ma'at is gone because Y/N is gone and we…we are going to go punish some assholes who deserved to be judged by someone better than us, but we're what's left."
"They will pay for what they have done. I will be her justice."
"We will be, but I gotta feed this damn cat first."
"Stop insulting Y/N/N's cat," Steven shouts from his reflection. "She's all we have left."
"That's why I'm feeding her," Marc got out some of the food Steven had gotten for Bas when Dane had asked him to help. He put the food in the new bowl Steven had gotten her.
"Well, I'm going to punch some criminals. You should give it a try, Steven, might be cathartic." Marc summons the suit. "Let's go enact some justice."
Layla pounded on Marc's door and waited for him to open up. He was ignoring her calls again and his mental state had been iffy when they last talked.
She was surprised when the door opened and an exhausted-looking Marc opened the door. She was even more surprised to see a cat sitting on the couch.
"You got a cat?"
"It's Steven's," Marc says.
"You guys can barely keep your fish alive," Layla points out.
"Well Dane has the dog and the cat is easier."
"Who is Dane? Why has the Moon Knight been absolutely ruthless and when was the last time you slept?"
"He was Y/N's friend. Just like it was her cat. And why we've been ruthless. Even Khonshu doesn't think it's enough."
"You didn't call her back, did you," Layla says it is more a statement than a question. She knew Marc too well.
"She's dead."
"Oh shit, Marc, what happened?"
"Another one of the deviant monster things got her." He took out a bottle of whiskey and poured them both a drink. He was going to need it to have this conversation. He handed her a glass. She was thoughtful enough to not mention how early it was.
"How is Steven taking it?" Layla asks, she takes a sip but doesn't plan on finishing it. Someone had to be the adult here and poor brokenhearted Steven was out of the question.
"Not sure, he talks to the cat more than he does me. Which is fair, I did kind of drive her away."
"But he still does talk, right? He hasn't shut himself off like you usually do?"
"Mostly. Not yesterday though, he had work and she used to work with him. Now that she's gone he hates it. All the little statues make him sad because some of them are statues of her, of Ma'at."
"I'm sorry Marc," Layla says. "I cannot imagine how hard that must be."
"Doesn't help neither of us listened to her voicemails until after she was gone. Now he listens to them all the time…"
He took out Steven's phone and got into the voicemail and played one for her.
Even her heart broke at the sound of struggle and sadness in Y/N's voice. She was careful to hang up without accidentally deleting the message before handing the phone back.
"And your coping mechanism, and Khonshu's, is to beat some justice into people."
"It's that or we have to sleep and the dreams…they don't help."
"Marc," Layla grips his shoulder. "You really think that is what she would want?"
"She's dead, she doesn't really have a say anymore."
"Well, I'm still here, and I will kick your ass if you don't start taking care of yourself. She was an Egyptian goddess, right? She's most likely in the underworld. She died saving people didn't she?"
He nods.
"Then she's in the field of reeds."
"But she wasn't human, she was an Eternal. I…still don't know what that means but Khonshu said none had died before. Now three of them have. And I guess she never knew what would happen after…"
"Well, what does her friend think?"
"Dane?"
"Yeah."
"He knows less than we do. She survived 7,000 years."
"And the one time you pick a fight, she dies. I really am sorry, Marc." When she doesn't get a response she sighs. "Want to go kick some idiots' teeth in and steal back an artifact taken from a dig site near Samalut."
"Yes, let's do that."
"He'll be back, kitty." Layla gives the cat a scratch behind the ear.
"Bas, her name is Bas," Marc says.
Layla chuckles. "Of course it is."

To Cry for the Moon Part 9 (Moon Knight x Female Eternal!Reader)
Author's Note: This one hurt to write. The reveal had to happen eventually. This and the next couple parts will be very emotional, but it will pay off. I promise.
The story idea, and most of the voicemails to Steven & Marc were written by @jupitersmoon167 (the original post I saw is here!) Also realized I should probably add content warnings, so I did and tagged them.

Part 9: Truths and Tensions
Karun's heart feels like the only one for miles or rather kilometers since this was Australia. The warm desert around them was more comforting than she was expecting. She can see why they would choose to stay out here. Quiet isolation was safe for them. Thena didn't have to worry here. Kingo pulls Y/N aside.
“I’m sorry, boss made it sound like a spat, not a…” he wasn’t sure how to finish without upsetting her.
“It’s okay, Kingo, and you’re not a flashy moron, flashy, yes, a bit over the top at times, but you’ve never been cruel. Your timing might be off now and again, but you don’t hurt people intentionally, it’s just been tough. Steven is a sweet guy, and yeah he’s a package deal with Marc, that’s the burden of having more than one personality I guess.”
“At least your type hasn’t changed, damaged and slightly deranged moon god, check. Broken and endearing, check again, that’s so very you, Y/N/N.” Earning him a sad chuckle.
“And you still use humor to defuse awkward situations, still very much Kingo,” she says.
“But that’s a good thing right?” he asks.
“I suppose it is,” she offers him a small smile, one he takes a complete victory.
“Ha! Got you to smile,” He looks back at the other. Sersi smiles but shakes her head.
“Leave her alone, Kingo, before she stabs you,” Sprite says.
“You wouldn’t,” he says in mock shock.
Y/N shakes her head. “Haven’t stabbed you yet, have I?”
“Not recently,” he admits.
“Does that happen often?” Karun asks.
“Her stabbing me? No, more of a running joke and an empty threat throughout the centuries. Though she is always up for sparring, right, Y/N?” He tells Karun and the camera. “She has always had a tough gig. Judging people’s hearts tends to come with having to deem when punishment is justified. It can weigh you down after a millennia or two, let alone 7, wouldn’t you say, oh goddess Ma’at?”
She sighs but nods. “Haven’t sparred in ages, don’t exactly have to fight much while guiding tours around a museum. Nothing to fight except boredom there, and entitled visitors that just want to touch everything.” The conversation ends as they get closer to their destination.
The sight of the defeated deviant takes her aback for a moment. Karun gets to finally see what they are up against, even it if is already dead. No one is surprised when Kingo starts to narrate for the camera again. He’s going on about how Gilgamesh and Thena are fierce warriors. An image countetered by Gilgamesh opening the door with a white and pink kiss the cook apron. And asking what took them so long. Y/N almost laughed. It didn’t stop there he told Sprite she looked younger. Demanded to know who Karun was and then compared him to Alfred from Batman. She had missed his humor, his banter with pretty much anyone.
When it was pointed out the deviants were back she wasn’t surprised at his response.
“No shit. I could have used some help,” he tells them.
“We were attacked by a Deviant in London, too.”
“Even Ikaris couldn’t kill it.”
“You couldn’t?” Gigamesh asks.
“I was distracted,” Ikaris admits. “I wasn’t the only one.” Ikaris looks at Y/N.
“The damn thing tried to rip my leg off, I did the best I could,” Y/N counters.
“Too bad your boyfriend and your bird friend were too distracted to help either,” Ikaris states.
“I’m not doing this,” Y/N says as she turns back to Gilgamesh.
“Hey you want to try my pie?” he asks. She appreciates the topic change.  But the pie fell to the ground when the others told him Ajak was gone. She gave him an awkward hug.
"I'm sure it was a lovely pie," she adds.
They go to see Thena. Gilgamesh warns them the attack had triggered her. Thena rambles about death on a planet and then puts up a fight. Kingo goes to protect Sprite and Y/N's wings come out as she steps forward and takes a protective stance before the others. But before she has to do anything Sprite summons her illusions reminding Thena who she is, who they are. Y/N drops her stance and lets her wings disappear when Thena seems to come back to herself.
Kingo makes a joke and everyone heads inside. Gilgamesh offers them food and they all sit down to eat. Gilgamesh teases Sprite as he often does, so she makes him look like a giant baby, amusing everyone. They discuss the Avengers and Ikaris claims he could lead them. Y/N rolls her eyes so hard she is shocked she can’t see her own brain. She is the only one not offended by Gilgamesh’s dig at Ikaris. He was right. Ajak hadn’t appointed Ikaris the new leader. The sphere went to Sersi. It didn’t help he had been getting on Y/N’s nerves since London.
Thena eyes Y/N skeptically as everyone seems to talk and eat. Y/N is mostly just pushing food around her plate.
“Not hungry?” Thena asks.
“What you don’t like my cooking anymore?” Gilgamesh asks.
“It’s not that, it’s wonderful as always,” she assures him.
“She’s sulking over her useless and insane boyfriend,” Ikaris tells him.
“Whoa,” Kingo says in shock. ”Boss.”
“Not cool,” Sprite says.
She was saved from replying when Sersi goes to get air. The conversation shifts and Y/N offers Thena a sad smile. “Marc is mad I didn’t tell him about us, about being Eternals. Everyone says he’ll come around. Ikaris is just mad because when the deviant attacked in London I learned Marc is Moon Knight, the avatar of Khonshu.”
“The god with the bird head from Egypt?” Thena asks.
“Yeah,” Y/N nods.
“And you didn’t know?” Thena was a bit surprised, Y/N knew humans so well.
“He is better than most at hiding things. He actually has multiple personalities and depending on who is in control their entire being, their nature shifts. Marc, and the one I haven’t even met yet, they hide things easier by letting Steven front.”
“And you like Steven?” Thena inquires.
“Everyone does,” Sprite says. “He’s like the nicest guy ever, a bit boring and absolutely obsessed with ancient Egypt. Kind of shocked he’s not talking to Y/N, like she was there, she’s one of their gods. You think he’d be all over that.”
“I like them both, but that doesn’t matter. We have bigger things to deal with. I just hope they’ll talk to me when we get back otherwise work is going to suck. That's what I get for dating a coworker I guess.”
“If he doesn’t come around then he’s an idiot,” Gilgamesh states. “An Eternal praised as an immortal, winged goddess of old, that personality must be the dumb one.”
“Thanks, Gil,” she says.
Sersi returns and what she tells them sends Y/N over the edge. They were made as they are, they weren’t born. They were made to destroy deviants, deviants that were made by Arishem. They were made to protect people from the deviants and then help them develop until they gain enough of a population, enough energy to bring about the birth of the celestial from inside the planet. Tiamut, would be the force they help destroy everything that Y/N has grown to love about this planet. The people, so many people were going to die. She couldn’t even register what the others were saying. She had failed humanity. The people she loved, the world she helped build, would be destroyed and the Eternals would be reset and blindly do it again. How is any of this real? How could they have all been so wrong? How had she been so wrong? Without a word, she got up.
“Y/N?” Sersi stops discussing possible ways to stop Tiamut’s emergence and calls for her. Y/N shakes her head and goes to the door. She ignores their protests and leaves.
“She’s coming back, right?” Sprite asks. “Right?”
“I hope so,” Sersi says.
As soon as Y/N steps outside she let her wings form and takes off. She flies until she has some semblance of signal and dials Steven’s number, she doesn’t even care if they answer, she’ll be happy to just hear their outgoing voicemail message. She tries to keep the emotion out of her voice as she speaks.
“Hey, sorry I haven’t called in a bit, things have been…..hectic. A lot of bombshells have been dropped and things just got much more complicated. I don’t want to bore you with the details, I’ll uh….tell you both all about it when I come back. Hey uh, when’s the last time you called your dad? Just think about it.”
She flies back towards Gilgamesh and Thena’s dwelling but stops. She decides to let it all out. She’s overwhelmed, she misses Steven and Marc, and everything she ever knew was a lie. Ajak had lied to all of them and deceived them because Arishem told her to. It was a betrayal, unlike anything she had felt before. She thought Ammit was the worst betrayal she’d ever had to face. She really had been wrong. She couldn’t feel anyone anywhere near her. So she screams. She screams so hard that it makes her throat hurt. She drops to her knees on the rocks and dirt. Her tears falling freely. She didn’t want her family to see her like this. Her love for humanity had always been her weakness. It’s why she had split her powers for Osiris. It’s why she left a small part of herself in London with Dane. It was why she would never have the full force of her powers in a fight. She knew at least some of the others judged her for it. She knew at least Ikaris thought it was a foolish thing to do. He thought it was a distraction. At the time Makkari and Druig had stood up for Y/N’s decision. Makkari had argued that Y/N was the only one that had to put her heart into her powers. Druig would point out that the things Phastos made didn’t take anything from him. Sersi could help them develop proper resources without sacrificing any of herself. Sprite left them with stories and memories of illusions beyond beauty, but she stayed whole. In the past Y/N had just created systems that humanity could imitate and continue. The Egyptian gods had thrown that all off. She had needed a new system and Phastos helped make it. Y/N missed them so very much.
Modern Egyptian Underworld
Osiris watches as the scales begin to shake and then begin to shift rapidly as if refusing to balance. He watched as the chains were strained as if under an unusually heavy weight. If the last unexplained movements had been from the shock of finding the leader of the Eternals dead, something must be very wrong with Ma'at. He tells Anubis to continue to keep watch and sends Taweret to fetch Isis. She would want to know. He would look into it himself. He opened the gates to the temple and again opened a path to where she was when she failed to enter Osiris sent his avatar. His avatar stepped into a land almost as barren as most of his own.
"There you are," the avatar said. "Osiris is getting impatient." She followed him through to the temple.
"Forgive me, my friend, I know I told you that you could always rely on my judgment but I just learned everything I know has been a lie."
"And who could lie so thoroughly to the goddess of truth?" Osiris asks.
"Arishem," she says sadly. "And Ajak, everything we thought we were working for, everything we have done. No wonder they made it so Eternals' hearts are hidden from me. They couldn't risk me knowing. We weren’t even born into this. We were built, forged. Made as we are. Forgive me for I have failed you all. We have failed humanity. We wanted humanity to thrive, to advance, in doing so we sealed their fate. Arishem revealed to Sersi that our job was to destroy the deviants so that humanity could advance until it could create enough energy to bring about the birth of a new celestial, but the cost of doing so is complete destruction of Earth and everything on it. Then after all we have worked for is turned to dust, the Eternals' minds are to be wiped clean and the process begins again."  She dropped to her knees before him. "How many times have I done this? How many times have I been so wrong? How can truth and justice even matter if it all just builds to the death of so many innocent lives? Can this truly be their time? How can I have led so many to so-called justified condemnation while in fact condemning all of humanity? Khonshu was right, I was always a slave to Arishem. I have brought about the death of an infinite number of souls for a master that views them like insects to be exterminated. I am so sorry, I am no god. I am but a drone, a heartless drone." Tears fell freely as she weeps for the people so unknowingly close to destruction.
Osiris remained silent. Of all the souls he had judged, few had been as devastated as the Eternal before him. He didn't need to see the scales to know her feather would be weighted heavier than any heart it had seen. Not because she was truly bad but because she held herself to a different standard. She set the standard, her devastation weighed her very soul down farther than any punishment could.
"No heart weighs heavier than yours, feather. To bear the burden of so many is a burden even we cannot compare. But to feel that burden means you bear it honestly and with remorse. Humility and a willingness to change for the better are all one can hope for. You have always had your standards, yet you still judge yourself so harshly. You are still worthy of the field of reeds, but it is not your time, your scales will balance." He assures her and looks up as Isis and her avatar enter. They exchange a look and he retires back to the underworld.
"My sweet feather," the goddess begins through her avatar. You have given your heart to so many and been led so far astray, but your heart still beats for this world. Perhaps you and your family have spent too long in the shadows. Your eyes are open and your chains cannot be so strong that the Eternals would just give up. If there is one thing you have taught humanity it is that even the sands and the tides can be made to yield with enough effort. You have not lost yet, feather, do not lose heart. You gain nothing if you don't at least try."
Australia
Y/N steps out from the gates as the path to the tunnel vanishes behind her. She is met by Ikaris.
"You really think running off to your gods is a smart move right now?" Ikaris asks, his annoyance clear in his tone. "You waste time we don't have."
"It may not bother you knowing the innumerable amount of people you have unknowingly misled, but you cannot begin to understand how that feels to someone tasked with deciding the standards of truth for thousands, if not millions of years. You cannot possibly know how unbelievably shattered my heart is. They relied on me and I failed them. You may not care about the gods, and you may have no faith in them, but they did have faith in us. They still do."
It wasn't until she found herself wrapped in Thena's arms that she lets herself be comforted.
"It is not a burden you bear alone," Thena says.
"Isis believes we can still fix this," Y/N tells her.
"She is right, we are not giving up," Sersi says. "We need to find Druig."

Part 15: A Cosmic Idea
After Y/N had said goodbye to Kingo and the newly human Sprite. She went to visit Steven at work since she has a few more days off. She had explained that her family had a tragic event that meant she had unexpectedly lost three family members to her bosses. She was been granted bereavement leave. So they both still technically had jobs.
Steven was just finishing up with a customer when she walked in.
"How'd it go?" He asks once the customer was gone.
"Well considering what Sprite did, it went better than it could have. I mean we all get why she did it, but it still hurts. But if Sersi can forgive her then I guess I can too."
"It's because you are better people than most," Steven says as he comes around the counter and steals a quick kiss.
"How's it going here?" She asks.
"Long and boring," he admits. "You see there's this one tour guide that usually stops by in between tours and she's not here today."
"Sounds like a bummer," She chuckles.
"It is," he grins.
"Well, hopefully, she'll be back soon," she smirks.
"Oh, I'm not worried, since she and I have plans after work."
"Ooooh, lucky girl," she says.
"We're the lucky ones," he says, giving her another kiss. They hear someone clear their throat. Steven jumps slightly.
Y/N just sighs and without looking up says, "Hello, Donna."
"Aren't you on leave, Y/N?" Donna states, her tone filled with annoyance.
"I had a tough meet-up with my grieving family, and someone wouldn't let my boyfriend out of a shift so he could be there with me."
"It's unprofessional snogging in the shop," Donna says.
Y/N looks around at the empty shop. "Oh my, what will the statues think," she mumbles, causing Steven to have to try very hard not to laugh. "Okay, okay, I'm leaving," the goddess says, steals one last kiss then leaves.
A bit later Steven notices a commotion in the hall outside the gift shop. People seemed to be hurrying to leave or to find anywhere with windows. Frantic voices spoke of giants. He checks his phone and reports of a giant being appearing in the sky makes him anxious.
"You don't think it's another celestial," Steven says out loud.
"What other giant space beings do you know of, Steven," Marc says from the glass reflection.
Steven tries to call Y/N but doesn't get an answer and it makes him even more on edge. He goes to call her again but his phone rings. It was Dane. He freezes. Marc takes over and answers it.
"What happened?" He asks without even saying hello.
"They vanished, Sersi and Y/N. The three of us took the dog to park, Sersi and I were talking, and then what I can only assume is Arishem shows up in the sky, and then they’re gone.”
Marc’s world grinds to an abrupt halt. Jake takes over, having heard the whole thing.
“Dane right?” Jake says. “This is Jake. Here’s the plan. You try and reach anyone else, the kid, the ship, anyone. We’ll see what the bird can find out and then meet at Steven’s flat. Got it?”
“Uh, sure I’ll call Sprite.”
“Good.” Jake hangs up. “Steven, tell that boss of yours, you’re taking a break because you need to make a phone call, either that or your gift shop is going to get real windy.”
Steven takes over and tells Donna that he needs to take a break, and for once does not let her try and stop him. He had bigger issues to deal with. Jake takes back over when they meet Khonshu outside.
“Y/N’s gone,” Jake says.
“How can that be?” Khonshu asks. “Lockley, explain.”
“I would if I could, but that Dane guy says she and Sersi are gone. That celestial shows up and now they’re gone. Not a coincidence.” Jake cusses in every language he knows. “He’s going to call the kid, and I said we’d see if the gods know anything. It’s a long shot but can’t hurt.”
Khonshu vanishes without another word.
Egyptian Underworld
Khonshu is let through Osiris' gate into the underworld. He couldn’t remember the last time he had been there, but he shook the thought and focused on why he was there. Before he can even ask, Osiris speaks.
"What happened to Ma'at?" Osiris asks. Taweret waiting silently beside him. Her ears twitch at the tension in the air.
"The human dating the Eternal Sersi, says the celestial Arishem appeared, as the others may have seen, and the Ma’at and Sersi vanished."
"That explains why the scales failed," Osiris says. "They did not break like when Ma’at died, but they failed. The feather still has its glow, but the connection appears strained. And she is not anywhere that Horus, nor the Eye of Ra can see. Which means she is not in this world or on Earth."
"We must trust that Ma'at will find a way out of whatever she has found herself in," Khonshu states.
"Glad to see you two getting a long again. If only it was under better circumstances. Both of you," Osiris address both Khonshu and Taweret. "Return to your avatars and see what can be done."
London
Jake and Steven had managed to get through the last few hours of the shift. They didn't even bother with their regular commute. They ducked into an alley and once Jake was sure no one would see he called on the suit and took the easy way back. He met Dane and Sprite in the hallway of Steven's building.
"Marc?" Sprite asks, a bit shocked at the angry expression on his face.
"He's busy," Jake says, "for now you're stuck with me."
"Jake," Dane informs her as Jake let's them in. "What did Khonshu find out?"
"They aren't in either world Osiris or Horus can see. But they seem to be alive."
"How do they know?" Sprite asks.
"Because the scales don't work but they didn't break. They broke when she died. So there's that. What about the others?"
"Ben says Phastos is gone too. Karun says Kingo never made it back to set," Sprite says. "Druig, Thena and Makkari are on the Domo and we have no idea how to reach them without Phastos."
"So we have nothing helpful," Jake curses. It's silent for a moment before Jake let's Steven take over so he can think without being bothered. Steven picking up Bas to scratch her behind the ears. He sets her down, feeds her, and then goes to feed Gus II. "Well, if we have to wait we might as well eat. Can't fight Celestials on an empty stomach and it will at least give us something to do. Even if you aren't hungry, you will need your strength." Layla joins them before they even finish cooking. Taweret had told her what was happening.
"I'll help if I can, even if is only to coax Marc back out," Layla says.
"Jake thinks it's best to leave him be for now," Steven tells her.
"So he calls the shots now?" Layla asks.
Jake let's out a number of Spanish words from the reflection Marc usually occupies when Steven is in the kitchen. It was odd but still somewhat reassuring.
"Well, you just made him very angry, but Y/N asked him to try to be more of a part of the system. And he is trying." Steven says. "And he is the only one with any sort of a plan, so I am glad he is here."
"As long as Marc comes back soon," Layla says.
"He will," Jake says. "He always does."
"Jake says he always does," Steven tells them. "And he is right, Marc just doesn't like processing things in front of others. You know that."
"Yeah, I do," Layla admits.
Arishem's location
"You don't need them, Arishem, you just need me. You made me to judge humans. You want to see the good vs. bad, you just need me. They didn't get to see into the hearts of humanity like I did. The good and the bad. Let them go and I will stay."
"You would give your life for theirs?" The celestial asks.
"I have once already and I would again in a heartbeat," she tells him.
"No, Y/N, you can't," Sersi says.
"I can, Phastos has a family, Kingo has people that rely on him, and the others need you, Sersi. It makes the most sense."
"You have people too,” Sersi insists. “People who just got you back and that includes us."
"I am already on borrowed time,” Y/N states. “I choose to use that time to save you all. If things go wrong they will understand eventually. You will help them."
"Is this what you choose?" Arishem asks. "Your final decision."
"No!" Kingo, Sersi, and Phastos shout.
"Yes, Arishem,” the winged goddess answers. “This is what I choose."
"So be it," Arishem states.
"No, you can't!" Kingo shouts.
"Y/N," Sersi starts.
"It's okay Sersi, I have a plan." Y/N smiles. "You have to trust me."
"Then let me stay too," Sersi says.
"Not part of the deal, just tell them to trust me. Trust that I know what I am doing."
"Dying again?" Kingo asks. "Trust you to die again?!"
"Let's hope it doesn't come to that," Y/N says.
"Y/N/N…"
"Go home guys, goodbye."
"No!"
The trio disappears and it leaves just Y/N and the looming celestial.
"Before you take my memories,” she tells him. “I have an offer to make."
"Another one?"
"Yes, I am willing to bet my life on this one, but their lives were not negotiable. If you don't like what I have to say, you lose nothing. If you agree we can change everything. We can all benefit from what I have figured out."
London
Sersi hurries over to Steven's flat. No one had been at home but Noob the dog. She hoped they were there. She knocked and knocked again when the door swung open.
"Sersi?" Steven was surprised. He let her in.
“Sersi!" Dane says, going over to hug his girlfriend. “What happened? Where were you?"
"Where's Y/N?" Jake asks. Sersi is surprised at the unfamiliar American accent but doesn't dwell on it. She figures it's Jake.
"She convinced Arishem to let Kingo, Phastos, and I go. She told him since her task was to judge the hearts of humanity, and she had done so for thousands of years, she was the only one he needed. We tried to stop her. I tried to get them to let me stay but she said that wasn't the deal. That I needed to trust her."
"They just got her back," Jake says. "They can't lose her again."
"She told me to tell you to trust her," Sersi adds. "Where's Marc?" She asks.
"He didn't take the news well, Steven and Jake said he'd be back," Layla tells her.
"She has a plan," Steven says from the reflection of the tank.
"We don't know she has a plan," Marc finally replies from his own reflection, but lets Jake keep fronting.
"Not very helpful, mi amigo," Jake says. "But you are at least here."
"Why else would she say that?" Steven asks.
"To make us feel better," Marc says.
"Who is he talking to?" Dane asks.
"Steven, and sounds like maybe Marc too. They can talk through reflections," Layla tells him.
"I can see how that could be useful," Dane says.
"Well I trust her, if she wasn't coming back then she would have sent a different message," Steven argues.
"Let's hope so or the big guy is going to be very angry," Marc says.
"Which one?" Steven inquires.
"Both," Jake states.
When the trio's conversation seems to end. Sersi says, "We need a plan, Phastos is going to try and reach Thena, Druig, and Makkari on the Domo. Then we can come up with a plan. Kingo is already back on his way here."
"We better start figuring it out," Jake says.
Arishem's Location
"You have my attention, make it worth my time," Arishem tells her.
Y/N starts to explain, "To create a new celestial you have to build a civilization then continue to expand and build for thousands of years, maybe millions. Then you get to the point the emergence happens. You lose all that advancement and have to start over."
"New galaxies are born from that destruction," Arishem states.
"Sure, but what if you didn't have to destroy the planet that is already cultivated and produces massive amounts of energy? What if you can have a separate seed planet that has minimal life, that the celestial grows inside and put just Eternals on it? Hear me out. Eternals connect with the celestial when it emerges. If the celestial can tap into the power of the planet why not the Eternals? Then much like Phastos and the UniMind, transfer the power from the Eternals on the thriving planets that are continuing past the point they would have been destroyed and transfer it to the seed planet. We can channel it through the Eternals themselves to the ships to allow greater transmission. It can be constant or whatever it needs to be. There is just so much wasted potential and death. If we fail to come up with a system then we can lead the existing people to colonize the seed planet and still don't have to start from scratch. They can use the advanced technology of the planet they left to speed up the process. If all of it fails then you can wipe my memory and we can start over."
"All that work just to save one planet?" Arishem inquires.
"A heavily populated one well on its way to continued advancement. And many more like it that would otherwise be destroyed. We can create a system that both sides get to continue. Everyone wins. Why not let us try?"
"Fine, you have until the next emergence."
"When is that?"
"When we decide it is time," Arishem informs her.
"And how will we know?"
Arishem produces a new golden communication sphere. "Like all others before you. Betray us again and you will not find yourselves with new memories. You have defied us once. Fail and there will be no future."
With that, he sends her back to Earth.
London
Y/N is almost knocked to the ground as soon as she sets foot in the guys’ flat. "What happened? Are you alright?" Marc says. He had finally taken over.
"What did you say to get him to free you?" Sersi asks.
"That if we can create a UniMind on a universal scale, then no civilized planet will ever have to be destroyed to bring about the birth of a celestial. If Eternals can tap into the same energy network that Celestials do to develop then why couldn't we tap into that power, funnel it through the Domo, and transfer it to the seed planet ship and then to the celestial. The seed planet can have minimal organisms. So that it can supply the materials to make a new galaxy. If we don't get it right we can still colonize the seed planet, power it, and won't have to start with zero technology. But if it all fails, well, we can't fail, let's just say that."
"How much time do we have?" Sersi asks.
"Until the next emergence and that is whenever they decide it is."
"So we have to design a machine of sorts to do the impossible in who knows how long a time span, or suffer terrible consequences, did I get that right?" Marc asks.
"Well it was that or everyone dies," Y/N says. "I did the best I could, with the only option we had. I guess I'm the middleman now since it was my idea."
"No," Marc says.
"You wanted me back, right?"
"Of course but this is too much for you, you died less than a week ago, you need to recover."
"I need to keep this planet alive and the pressure is more on Phastos unless we can reach the Domo. If they can find others like Phastos we might be able to do this. This is the best and only shot we have to not bring the wrath of the celestials down. We can recruit the best of the best, tell them the futures of everyone is at stake and we will not give up.” The others seemed unsure.
“This is our home,” Y/N tells them. “We have to defend it."

To Cry for the Moon Part 8 (Moon Knight x Female Eternal!Reader)
Author's Note: I wanted to get something out today. Hopefully it isn't too ooc. I hope to get part 9 written today but I have actual work that I have to do. I will see what I can do.
The story idea, and most of the voicemails to Steven & Marc were written by @jupitersmoon167 (the original post I saw is here!) Also realized I should probably add content warnings, so I did and tagged them. If you think I missed a warning please send me an ask. I try to tw tag even the tiniest thing so no one has to suffer if I can help it.

Part 8: Collecting Kingo
Y/N nods as Sersi, Sprite, and Ikaris approach the studio building she is waiting in front of.
“Took you long enough,” Y/N teases, earning reactions of eye rolls and shaken heads. Though Sersi finds it encouraging that her friend is starting to find her sense of humor again.
"What did the gods want?" Sersi asks.
"Osiris was concerned after something happened with the scales."
"That's bad isn't it," Sersi inquires.
"I think it was just the shock of finding Ajak," Y/N answers.
"How did they take that news?"
"He made it sound like the others are more concerned than he is, but with him, you never know."
"Well, at least you got us in here."
"It wasn't that hard, not like he was hard to find. He loves the attention it seems."
"That's Kingo." They all agreed.
They all step into the busy soundstage as the music plays. The actors are busy on a musical scene and it all looks so beautiful. They are met by Kingo's valet, Karun. Y/N can feel his heart beating with excitement. He seems like a good man. Of course, the ever charismatic Kingo would have a valet like that, knows about them and is very excited to meet them.
As cut is called, Kingo greets them. Ikaris seems less than amused at the story being filmed. His story, or at least the one Sprite made up about him. Y/N would laugh if everything wasn't so serious. Ikaris seems even less amused that Kingo doesn't seem to focus and wants to include Karun in everything.
Y/N did find it amusing that Karun had tried to stake Kingo in the heart thinking he was an undead vampire. She almost wants to take the human aside and learn more about him, but she knew they didn’t have time. A devoted human is just so special in her opinion. Their lives are so short compared to the Eternals, but the passion and enthusiasm they often have can be infectious. She’s glad Kingo has had someone he can confide in for the last few decades.
Despite Kingo's enthusiasm at the possibility of the Eternals joining together again, the mood quickly shifts when Sprite tells him Ajak is dead. They tell him the deviants are back. That they need him.
Y/N begins to get frustrated when he tells them he can't just leave. Like somehow his movie is more important than anything they have had to leave behind. Marc hates her. Steven won't talk to her. She opens her mouth to say that he really doesn't have a choice but Karun talks some sense into Kingo. Karun is easily becoming someone she appreciates. Of course, he quotes Kingo's own movie at him. What else would have worked?
Either way, they end up on Kingo's private jet.
Before they take off she calls Steven.
“So, I’m realizing that you’re both probably ignoring me. Which is totally fair, believe me. I should’ve told you guys the truth from the start, and I regret not doing that. But regardless, I’m going to keep sending you updates. Though you’re most likely not going to listen to them anyway. We’re heading to Australia to get Gilgamesh and Thena. I’ll be sure to update you on our progress soon...I miss you, both of you.”
She hangs up her phone and it feels too quiet. Only Karun's heartbeat grounds her, but as comforting as that is the fact the man is constantly filming them annoys her. Especially after Marc and Steven not answering again. She has a broken heart and her worldview has shifted. She didn't want the camera in her face.
Kingo leads Karun over to where she was sitting. "This is Y/N, though the ancient Egyptians called her Ma'at, the goddess of truth, justice, and cosmic order."
"Do you want to be dragged to the underworld? The gods took to the shadows for a reason and have exiled and entombed their own in small statues for revealing their existence to modern humans. Ammit was trapped in her own avatar for defying them, for corrupting my system. I'm not even sure I can negotiate you out of whatever fate they judge fitting for you putting it all so bluntly on film."
"She can also fly," Kingo adds as if she hadn't just described how risky what he was doing was.
"You're ridiculous," Y/N says as she stands up and turns to Karun. "Don't worry, I'll make sure Osiris knows you were just doing your job, a loyal human with a good heart, but your boss is a flashy moron." Earning a snicker from Sprite as Y/N approaches the seat beside the younger Eternal.
"Ignore her, she had a fight with her boyfriend," Kingo told Karun. Y/N froze where she stood in the aisle. Sersi and Sprite stare at them.
Her powers dance along her fingers as if she wants so badly to summon a blade.
"Y/N," Ikaris warns but she ignores him as she turns to Kingo.
"Was that really necessary, Kingo?" Sersi asks.
"What I-" Kingo starts to say but Y/N holds up a hand.
"You don't know anything about them, you were too busy playing movie star to care about the details of our boring lives," Y/N says. "Has your ego grown so large you have become callous? Because why else would you wield someone's heartbreak so casually? Why do you want to hurt me? Is knowing they hurt me not enough?"
Kingo had enough sense to seem guilty. “I’m sorry, Y/N/N, I didn’t mean it like that,” Kingo says. They can all tell he feels bad. Y/N nods but doesn’t say anything.
Sprite tugs her to sit down next to her. "Steven will call eventually, he's too nice to ignore you forever. And Marc's a dick if he can't see he's a giant mummy-wrapped hypocrite."
"I miss them," Y/N admits.
"They'll come around," Sersi assures her.

To Cry for the Moon Part 14 (Moon Knight x Female Eternal!Reader)
Author's Note: This one got long too. I just kept adding to it, even while doing the final edits. There will be another part, maybe two, after this one, so @jupitersmoon167 and I are not quite done yet. The first 13 parts had 27725 words. That doesn't include this one, or the next one(s). So hopefully you have all enjoyed those 30k+ words.
Please do not take, copy, or translate without talking to me first. Reblogs, likes, and comments are encouraged. But anything else please message me first.
Y/N = Your Name. Y/N/N = Your Nickname. Reader pronouns She/Her. Story is 3rd person POV.
Italic text is the reflected alter talking. Bold Italic text is sign language for Makkari.

Part 14: Recovery
"Hello, Layla," Y/N says as she and Marc approach the Domo.
"Hello, Y/N," Layla greets her back.
"Taweret never told you they revived me, did she?" Y/N asks.
"She has been busy, I assumed that had to do with whatever Osiris and the others had going on, and which I guess was you. It's crazy how easily this could have been solved but Taweret had her tasks and Khonshu is too stubborn to admit he can ask the others. You were apparently the only one he liked it seems."
"Hathor is okay with him," Y/N states. "Especially after what Harrow and Ammit did to her avatar. Taweret is too sweet to abandon her tasks if she thinks they are important. Though she will defy them for the same reason. She can be a paradox. My family fill you in?"
"Yes, but I am starting to wish I would have called upon her. Probably would have saved us all a lot of hurt." Layla says.
“Well, you were a bit busy with this situation,” Y/N gestures to Steven.
“Hey!” Steven says, offended.
Layla laughs. "Glad you're back, these two were insufferable for the last few days. And don't take this the wrong way, but it's your problem now." Steven just shakes his head but Y/N laughs.
"I have to return the feather, you guys up for a trip to the temple?" Y/N asks them.
"Make a good shortcut home, so I'm in," Layla says.
"Y/N/N, we already told you, we go where you go, but I'll let Marc take this one, later gators," Steven says and gives Y/N a quick kiss and lets Marc front. Layla just laughs. The trio let the others know and Y/N calls on her powers to open the path to the temple.
Temple of the Gods
They step into the temple and see both Isis and Osiris with their avatars.
"You did so well, little feather," Isis says through her avatar as she goes and embraces Y/N.
"Never doubted you could do it," Osiris adds from where he stands.
"Come with me, feather," Isis says. Y/N looks back at Marc. "Don't worry. We will not be long." The pair of goddesses leave.
 Osiris begins to speak again, drawing Marc and Layla's attention. "And somehow you, Spector," he looks at Marc, "You just keep proving we underestimated you the first time around. You may be broken, but you have done more for the world than most of us or our avatars have in a long time. We cannot thank you or Ms. El-Faouly enough. You both have now saved humanity twice."
"You brought Y/N/N back," Marc answers honestly. "And last time, you brought us back. It was the least we could do."
The three of them talk until Isis and Y/N return. Y/N's armor is gone and replaced with a flowing white gown with gold trim and jewelry, befitting of an Egyptian Goddess.
"We reward those who serve to protect and better humanity," Isis says. "An outfit of a true goddess, so much more fitting than that armor."
"And a savior of all humanity," Osiris adds.
Layla laughs at the lovestruck awe in Marc's face.
"I'm out of here," Layla grins. "I'll stop by your flat and feed the cat. I have a feeling you two might be busy for a while."
"Thank you, Layla," Y/N says as she nears them. Marc is holding his hand out to help her as she steps down. "You helped us even when you didn't need to. It means a lot to us, all of us. The gods, the Eternals, us," she gestures between herself and Marc. "I don't know how to repay such a kindness."
"You died to save the world," Layla points out. "Seems pretty fair that I kept him alive. Just don't let him undo that hard work."
"I will do my best," Y/N assures her.
"Call me when things settle down. We still have to get that artifact back," Layla tells Marc.
"Oh, Makkari said she would get it,” Y/N tells her. “She is really good at that."
"Alright then, guess my job is done. See you guys later." Layla waves before disappearing down one of the tunnels.
 A gust of wind signals Khonshu's arrival. Isis grins, holding her hand out to Osiris. The pair of gods and their avatars joined hands and leave the three to their reunion.
"Hello, Khonshu," Y/N says. She sees how the god remains as still as a statue, as if frozen as Tiamut is now.
"Go on, bird, we know what you want to do," Marc sighs, bracing himself for the weirdness that was Khonshu taking over his body. The god didn't have to be told twice.
"Ma'at," Khonshu says, reaching out through Marc and brushing a strand of hair back that had fallen in her face when he made his wind-filled entrance. "I told the worm you were too strong a warrior to truly be gone."
"It was painful, and you did lose me for a bit, but you must have faith in the other gods, Khonshu. I know you have had your quarrels with them, but they have seen that though somewhat misguided at times, you do truly care for humanity. More importantly, a little birdy told me you took over being my justice," she grins at him. "Hard to take over something you have always been, Khonshu. You never stopped, even when I had to. Even when the others banished you for it. You were the one that, despite the sometimes less than ideal methods, always did what you could to protect the innocent and hold the guilty accountable. Though I do hear that you have leaned more into half-truths and manipulation, and my dear, dear friend, you know we cannot have that. My justice is honest and true. Now that I have returned, I expect you to be on your best behavior. Don't worry, I shall remain beside you. I will make sure you stay on this path. We shall do what we should have done before and traverse it together. The other Eternals understand. The gods of other cultures may no longer dwell on Earth, but we do. We have fought too hard for humanity to give it up now. Join me?" She holds her hand out to him but stops as he mirrors the gesture. "But, only if you four can learn to play nice. No worm, no pigeon, no lying. This won't work unless everyone agrees. Marc and Steven are onboard. Jake may take time, and yes, I am aware of your little pet project. He has every right to share in what they all have as much as Steven and Marc do. It will be something we work on. All of us, together. Can you agree to that, my friend, for me?" She offers her hand again. "I will be with you, like I am with them, for as long as time and the cosmic powers allow."
Khonshu seems to weigh his options, but it was more for dramatic effect than actual contemplation. To have the cooperation of his avatar and Ma'at back at his side, he would agree to almost anything. But he had a reputation as a god of substance that he has maintained despite banishment and imprisonment. So he sighs.
"I suppose those are acceptable terms," he says and accepts her offered hand.
"Good, because I have so many things to tell you," she smiled. "We have centuries to catch up on. And your new look is quite fearsome. I'm sure you enjoy using it to your advantage, don't you," she comments on his time-battered frame. "But I won't lie, it's oddly fitting. Gaunt, yes, but reminds me of the full moon on a clear night, powerful and looming. Watching all that passes below them."
The old god takes pride in her praise, and comments, "And you are just as fierce and majestic as always.”
"I'm just lucky both the deviant and Ikaris aimed at my torso. Hurts like hell but makes the damage easier to cover."
"I can only hope their deaths were painful," Khonshu says, his tone full of anger.
She squeezed their joined hands. "Well, Marc will have to tell you about Kro’s death. As for Ikaris, it was probably searingly painful, even if it was short and self-inflicted. The sun does not have compassion, especially that close. An arrogant coward throwing himself into the sun, seems poetic and stupid. So it's very Ikaris."
"I could think of better punishments, but at least no one has to endure his insufferable judging nature,” Khonshu admits. “Yours is the only judgment that matters."
"Always did have a soft spot for me, haven't you?" She surprises him by giving him a kiss on the cheek. "As have I. Now shall we give poor Marc a break and take our leave?"
Despite his hesitation, he agrees. After all, they have centuries to discuss, and he doesn't need his avatar for that. They also have an infinite amount of time. He and his avatar would keep her from falling to anyone or anything again. They wouldn't make the same mistake again.
The Domo
The pair, now accompanied by Khonshu, return to the rest of the Eternals. The Domo was in need of repair. Despite Phastos insisting he could handle it, they all did what they could to speed up the process. It wasn't until the Domo was back in the air and both Steven and Marc were sure all her injuries had been tended to that they got a moment to relax. Khonshu vanishes after Y/N assures him that after they rest up, she will tell him everything he wants to know and more.
"I want to meet him," Y/N says once they are secured in her quarters on the Domo. And before he could respond, she adds, "Jake, I want to meet Jake Lockely."
Marc hesitates but nods. A few moments later, an unfamiliar heart beats within a body she knew so well.
"Hello, Jake," she says. He nods but says nothing.
"You have hidden from me, but you don't need to." She tries to assure him.
"You judge criminals," He says.
"And you see yourself as one?" She asks. He remains silent. "Smart enough to not lie. Good call, but the thing is, humanity is not as black and white as Khonshu may like to think it is. Good people do bad things to protect the people they care for. Bad people can still do good. I have seen humanity grow and change for over 7,000 years. Your heart, and mind, as Druig may think, may be dark, but that is only because that is all you allow yourself to be. You stay in the shadows and only come out to do the things too hard for Marc and Steven. You protect the others. You protect the system. But that is not how things have to be. Jake Lockley, you can have as much a say as Marc and Steven do. It is as much your body as theirs. You have kept them safe for so long. Why not step out into the light and embrace the potential you have? You can free yourself from darkness, all you have to do is open yourself up to them, to us." She places a hand over his heart, ignoring how he tenses at the touch. "I can feel that you carry the burden of the system. Your heart is not evil. You are not evil. You are the guardian of the good in the system. Why not enjoy the benefits for once?" She stands there, hand against his beating heart, refusing to back down. She loved them, all of them, every broken piece. Jake was part of that. She’d prove to him that there were people he could trust. That he could trust himself. All he had to do was start by trusting her. “Khonshu already trusts you. I trust you. All I am asking is that you think about it. You don’t have to do more than you already do if that is what you want.” She moves her free hand to his wrist and places his hand over her own heart. “But I am here for you, all of you. Know you are with me, with us, mind, body, and heart. All you have to do is try.”
"I will try, mi corazón," he says.
"Good," she smiles at him.
They settle in at Ajak's farmhouse in the immediate aftermath of the failed emergence. All of them were trying to figure out what they were supposed to do now. Y/N was thrilled to meet Phastos' family. Ben was kind and caring. Jack was innocent and adorable. She wanted to just hug him and protect him from the world. A thought that Ben found funny and Phastos could relate to. Phastos found it less amusing when Y/N showed Jack the stolen artifact Makkari had retrieved for Layla and Marc.
"Isn't it beautiful?" Y/N smiles as she gently sets the decent-sized stone tablet on the kitchen table for Jack to see. She watches as he looks at the carefully carved stone surface. The hieroglyphs cut deep enough into the surface to have not been erased by time. “You can touch it if you are careful, it’s heavy and very old.”
"What does it say?" He asks as he runs his fingers along the aged stone.
"It talks of a beautiful city, a golden city, that has been buried for thousands of years until not so long ago. 3,000 years under the sands. This comes from a time when a king turned his back on all gods but one. Aten, the sun god. Though the only Sun god I know is Ra and he gave his powers to many. Amun, becoming Amun-Ra. Horus becomes Ra-Horakhty or ‘Ra-Horus in the horizon’. Even his daughters, Sekhmet, or one of my personal favorites, Hathor. She’s lovely and she would adore you. Though I’m sure most of the goddesses would. Don’t you think Steven? Especially Taweret." She turns back to Jack when Steven agrees. “I’ll have to send you one of those adorable Taweret plushes they have at the gift shop. Her hippo form just looks so adorable as a plush. My statues are all pointy and with metallic wings.”
“He’s a little old for stuffed animals,” Phastos says.
“Well, Steven will find him something more fitting, then. He’s good at that. Taweret is a protector of women and children. It seems appropriate. And unless you want my statue in his room you should just accept the lovely, bejeweled hippo goddess. And yes, I plan to spoil your son. I have a new lease on life, and I’m going to enjoy it. That and I can fly and even fast travel like in video games thanks to the temple.” Steven genuinely laughs at the idea of treating the temple like a shortcut to Chicago. He tries to ignore the anxious thought that his father wouldn’t be that far away.
“Don’t focus on that,” Marc’s reflection in the nearby kitchen window states. “We’ll deal with that when Y/N makes us because we both know she will. We’ll just put that off for as long as possible.”
So Steven shakes it off and focuses on the here and now.
“Fair enough,” Phastos admits.
"What else does it say?" Jack asks, he carefully taps at the tablet, earning a laugh from where Steven sat across the table.
"It describes the movement of a pharaoh, the father of King Tut. Have you heard of King Tut?"
"He was the boy king that like everyone knows of, right?" Jack asks.
"Yes," she nods. "The Pharaoh Tutankhamun, usually called King Tut, had an unusual father. It describes when his father, Amenhotep IV, changed his name to Akhenaten to honor the only god he found important, Aten. And he left the traditional center of power in Thebes to create a new throne in the golden city, he called Akhetaten, pretty much named after himself."
"He named it after himself?" Jack asks, shocked.
"Swapped an ‘n’ for a ‘t’ and called it good. Real rude if you ask me. I worked hard with the Ennead, just to have this guy decide the rest of us weren't important. Jokes on him though, we are still here, and the pharaohs are long gone. I don’t see him at the Temple of the Gods. Guess he backed the wrong god, didn't he?"
“Can I see the temple?” Jack asks.
"And history lesson is over," Phastos says.
“But Daaaaad, it’s educational,” Jack says as Phastos attempts to usher Jack out of the room.
"Do you even know how hot Egypt is? That temple was made thousands of years ago. You barely leave the air-conditioned house on hot summer days.” When Jack is gone Phastos turns to the Egyptian goddess. “Really, Y/N? That was the moral of that story?"
"I could have told him about the criminal-filled frozen sands of the duat. Steven knows all about those, don't you, love?" She turns to Steven.
"No, I will not tell a child about fighting zombie-type undead monsters that trap the souls of bad men in the underworld. That's too scary."
"Their scales didn’t balance. Phastos and I made those scales. But I’m sure Jack would love it. What kid his age doesn’t like zombies?" Y/N teases.
"The kind that knows the world almost ended. The kind that knows half the universe disappeared for 5 years. So, nope, not happening. How is it that the guy with a bad case of DID, no offense, Steven,” he says to Steven. Steven just shrugs, wondering where Phastos was going with his comment. Phastos continues, “Is still the best babysitting candidate here?"
"It's because he is the nurturing alter. The other two are an ex-mercenary that became Khonshu's avatar after being left for dead in the desert and a limo driver from New York that has a tendency for murder. I can see why you like the gift shop employee best."
"Y/N/N,” Phastos starts, “I love you, but you are almost as bad as Druig."
"Well, at least you still love me," she grins.
"It is a burden, but I do," Phastos jokes. "But they," he gestures to Steven. "They can keep you."
“Fine with me,” Marc’s reflection says.
"Marc agrees, that works for us," Steven says.
Phastos shakes his head but smiles. He’s happy Y/N has someone who adores her as much as Steven and Marc seem to.
