SPICE: An MXTX Food Zine

The first edition of the MXTX Food Zine is out now and can be downloaded for free! It features 25 delicious recipes and 34 new artworks from across all three MXTX fandoms, including art, fanfiction and themed recipe cards! And it looks like there might be more to come:

We've just opened an interest check for the second round of the MXTX Food Zine and would like to spread the word. The zine will be free, 100% digital, and open-entry (aka, no application process) and is tentatively scheduled for a fall 2023 release; all the info is in the most recent post (under the pinned post)

Make sure to follow @mxtxfoodzine for more information and everyone interested in participating in the second round, make sure to fill out the interest check!

MXTX FoodZine 2023

So, besides all the doge-related sadness, work stress, personal life stress, and travel stress that's been affecting my usual fic-posting schedule (for nearly a year now, sad yays ;u; ), the other reason why I've been too busy to work on my WIPs is because I've been working on my entries for this year's MXTX FoodZine!!! \o/

This is the second iteration of the project, but it's my first time participating in it! We've all been working really hard, from me and my fellow content creators to the project's Discord mods and project admins/managers and the design/layout team, and it's really so amazing to see all that effort and hard work come together like this! *u*

I contributed 2 MDZS Wangxian fics and a recipe. One fic was based on the recipe I contributed (Peach Gum Soup) with art by @stardustinjune, and the other fic was based on @chefyli909's recipe for Spicy Poached Chicken!

Hopelessly Devoted (To You) is a purely fluffy Wangxian fic featuring my recipe for Peach Gum Soup! It's a one-pot Chinese dessert soup that's super tasty and super simple to make! Prep all the yummy things, toss them into a crockpot, leave to cook, and then eat! 😌😌😌🤤🤤🤤 The fic features gorgeous artwork by my collab partner Stardustinjune (Twitter | Tumblr)!!!

Through The Fire And The Flames (We Carry On) is also a fluffy Wangxian fic (but with just a sprinkle of angst for piquant flavour~ 😘😌😏)! It's inspired by @chefyli909's recipe for Spicy Poached Chicken with Green Onion Pancakes. So mouthwatering and worth the effort to make!

The collection is slated to go live on 7 Nov, so until then, the links will go to a page saying that the fics aren't revealed yet. Until then, stay tuned!!!

i actually just signed up for the MXTX Food Zine! i definitely want to do more exchanges and challenges this year (´｡• ᵕ •｡`) ♡ im still sad i was too busy this winter to participate in svsss secret santa, but would love to do that in 2024 and join in on at least one big bang or reverse big bang (if i ever figure out how and where those are run lol)

Maybe there is something coming up in the future that I can keep track of and sign up when it opens? What is a zine?

A zine (short for fanzine) is an unofficial publication produced by fans. Usually, zines feature work from artists and writers, and may be accompanied with fanmade merchandise as well.

What are the zine specifications?

What is the theme for this zine?

This zine is centered around food and the main characters of SVSSS! Foods will be based on Chinese cuisine, but given the nature of SVSSS, there is plenty of room for creativity and the possibilities are endless!

Will this project be for-profit?

This project will be entirely Pay for Production (P4P), in accordance with MXTX's wishes and JJWXC's policies. Consumers will be paying the base unit price for production, shipping/packing supplies, and shipping cost. Any tips are greatly appreciated and will go into a pool for funding contributor bundles.

What are the contributor expectations?

Can I apply for more than one position?

You are free to apply to any position(s), but note that you will only be accepted for one.

How many contributors will you be accepting?

How will contributors be compensated for their participation?

As this is P4P, we cannot guarantee all contributors a free full bundle at this time, although this would be ideal. Any tips are greatly appreciated and will go into a pool for funding contributor bundles.

Our team has been working on this project since December 2021 for an anticipated release in May 2022, but the general state of the world this year slowed the process down and delayed the release to this October.

MXTX FOOD ZINE: CREATOR SIGN-UPS OPEN!

Hi everyone! Creator sign-ups for the second edition of the MXTX food zine are now live at this link, so please make sure to fill out the form and join the zine discord (linked in the sign-up form) by January 4 if you want to join. Recipe sign-ups will open on January 5.

Please note that this project requires at least 30 initial sign-ups to proceed. We would like to have no fewer than 20 fanworks in the final zine; and judging by previous editions, we estimate that at least 7-10 participants will end up dropping out during the creation phase. To encourage more people to sign up, consider reblogging/sharing this post, especially if you're in the SVSSS/TGCF fandoms!

MXTX Food Zine: Round Three!

Greetings, MXTX fans! It’s December again, which means that the interest check for the third round of the MXTX Food Zine is now live! Please fill it out by December 27 if you intend to join, so we can get an idea of how many people will be participating this year.

Some specs for newcomers: This zine will be free, SFW, and 100% digital, with one dish/recipe per entry. After creator sign-ups, creators can reserve their chosen recipes on a first-come first-serve basis.

1. What’s a food zine?

Entries to the zine will consist of recipes paired with one or more pieces of fanwork: for example, you can contribute a recipe and accompanying fic or fanart that involves the recipe or dish in some way. Artists can contribute illustrated recipe cards instead of traditional fanart.

Contributors can also collaborate to create a single entry.

Please note that dishes featured in the 2022/2023 editions cannot appear again in the 2024 release.

2. Who can join? What’s the application process?

There is no application process! This is not a charity zine, so it will be 100% digital and free for downloading after it’s completed. Anyone in the MXTX fandoms is welcome to sign up.

3. What kind of recipes are allowed?

Any and all recipes are allowed. They don’t need to be traditional Chinese recipes or recipes related to the dishes mentioned in MXTX’s novels.

4. When will the zine be released?

The release date is tentatively set for October 31, 2024.

5. What are the rules about content?

The only hard and fast rule is that entries must be SFW and fall safely within a T rating according to AO3 standards. Other than that, it’s up to you: you can include your favorite rarepairs, draw crossover art, write all kinds of AUs, etc.  

6. When do sign-ups open?

Sign-ups will open on December 28 and remain open until January 4, which is when recipe sign-ups will open for creators.

7. Do I have to fill out the interest check to join the zine?

No, but please fill it out anyway if you can! :)
