Tim can’t breathe. He can’t breathe.
He thought— the Tower was bad enough. He hates being kept out of the loop, especially for “his own protection”, but he never thought—
It is Robin who had been threatened. Robin that Batman had been taunted with. Enough times, and with grisly enough descriptions of what might happen to him, that Bruce sent Tim to the Titans as a last ditch effort to keep him well out of reach of Gotham and its newly minted crime lord.
But Hood took Bernard, and Tim can’t breathe. Can only stare at the grainy picture from an unknown number, showing his boyfriend tied up and gagged in someone’s— Hood’s, probably, oh god— bed.
Tim wants to throw up.
Please god, please no.

Hey!! Could I please request a headcanon for the slashers going to a family cookout with their s/o.
(Girl I know Jesse is going to be tearing that jerk chicken up)
Absolutely. Also girl yes tf he would. Matter of fact, we’ll start with him
Slashers going to a family cookout with their s/o:
Tumblr media
Jesse always rolls with style, so it was standard to pull up in a Black 2020 Aston Martin Vanquish. Stuntin’ on everybody.
Tumblr media
Your dad and uncles are posing and taking pictures by it lmaoooo; he doesn’t mind.
Also coming extra late lol. Shit started at 2 pm and you two came at 5 pm. Black people operate on cp time so there was plenty of food left.
Goes to pile up his plate with jerk chicken, ribs, yams, cabbage, etc. He wants to eat everything.
The fam knows about his.....”accident”, so they don’t give him a hard time about eating in a separate room.
Also they lowkey scared of him sooooooo....
Jesse ventures into one room where there’s a random baby sleeping.
Like who’s child is this????🤔🤔
He just goes into another one, which is thankfully empty. He was hungry as hell. And was excited to sip on that henny too.
Tears that jerk chicken up! 1 minute and that shit was gone lol it was good as hell. Loud as fuck smacking on that shit too.
Ends up spending the night cause y’all both drunk and full by the end of the night. Real slizzardddd🥴
Bo Sinclair
Tumblr media
Bo hasn’t been to a cookout inna minute! Mostly cause everybody is made of wax except his brothers.
He’s another one who knows how to tear some shit up. Niggas named Bo don’t play about they food.
Honestly vibes well with your folks. He’s pretty respectful to everybody. He doesn’t feel out of place with them.
Y’all be roasting each other at home so he knows how to hold his own when your cousins try him lol.
Acts sweet with you grandma, mostly cause he wants her to slide him an extra piece of red velvet cake. 🙄Deceitful ass nigga lol.
Oh he’s playing cards with the main crew. Bo is good at it too, has a perfect poker face.
“BAM! Y’all ain’t got nothin’ on me!”
“Awww nigga shut up, you ain’t win. Musta cheated yo ass off!”
“Hellll Naw, I just got skills unlike you.”
When I say he goes to town on the food, he goes in. His eating style is literally chomping down on shit. We aren’t in a food competition sir.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Been to a million and 1 cookouts back in the day.
But, since the hood is scared of him, he hasn’t gone to one for a very long time.
Fortunately, being with you has calmed people down (somewhat), so he gets to go to your folks’ get together. They side eye the hell outta him when he gets there though.
He’s the one who always dancing and sayin “Whatchu know about this song youngin’?!”
Tumblr media
Um everything, old ass man. We been hearing the same shit since we was kids. Don’t play😂😂😂😂
He jokes around with everybody. You can hear that ugly uncle ass laugh miles away. Like ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww lol. That’s your baby though.
He doesn’t go heavy on the food like you would expect. Why? 'Cause he made himself some to go plates and hid them while no body was looking.
He’s a natural at cookouts lol that shit is engrained into his DNA.
Tumblr media
He really don’t like being around a bunch of people😐
But, there’s food involved so he can tolerate it.
Ya moms, aunts, and cousins think he’s cute.
“Where you get him from? Ooooo I like him.”
“Umm he’s not for YOU. That’s my nigga, back off.”
Tumblr media
If they try to come up and flirt with him he’s like nah bih. Get tf out tha way.
He’s there on a mission, for the food and food only.
He’s staring at the dessert table, ready to attack it and devour all of them. You lead him away before his attempt.
Sees the random baby sleeping on the bed when he does his mandatory snoop around the house. He wishes he could do that.
All the kids want to hang off his arms since he’s so tall. You have to save him from them cause his face said this ain’t it and never will be.
He gets one of every dish. Except anything that looks too green cause fuck veggies.
He has a food baby by the end of it. He’s so satisfied that he’s moving even slower than usual.
Your aunts all slide him an extra piece of their pie(s) that they saved for their favorites. Gladly takes them all.

Homebody (Ch.11)
Summary: Amiyah is the younger sister of local drug dealer (Durkio). Shy and reserved she keeps to herself and stays out the way. But lately she began to find interest in his right hand man/ best friend (Erik Stevens). Wanting to get him to notice her she discovers that he already had her wrapped around his finger without even trying! There was only a few problems that kept her away from her fantasies , her brother that controlled almost every single breath she took and would kill anyone who looked at her that way and lastly Eriks girlfriend, Alexis , who they called the queen of the hood according to her lavish lifestyle as well as being with the next newest top boy in the making. While Alexis was his girl to the streets all Amiyah wanted to do was be his Homebody...
Pairing: Erik Stevens x Thick OC
Warning: Language
Tumblr media
Erik sat on the round wooden stool. He frequently had to shift around in his seat due to the cheapness of the material and uncomfortable feeling. Arms resting on the bar and head low as he waited for the bartender to walk back over to his area. With his first finished drink pushed to the side he wanted another to hush his thoughts.
“Yo can I get some service over here.” His voice called out catching her attention.
She turned her head. Erik observed her the closer she got. A pretty brown skinned that stood no taller than 5’5. Her long hair falling past her shoulders as she had on an all black t shirt with the bar’s logo printed in white bold letters on the front along to go with some hip hugging blue jeans. With her towel in her hand she threw over her shoulder before leaning on the bar directly in front of him.
“Sorry about that. Had other customers to attend to. What can I get you this time?” She smiled showing her straight white teeth.
“Same as last Hennessy, neat.”
Shaking her head she went to grab the bottle.
“Yo, make that two!” Erik scratch the back of his head as he watched her bring another glass over.
She poured it into his first glass and the fresh one. Putting the top back on the bottle she didn’t move from her spot.
“You know you don’t have to call me like that. My name is not “Yo” and it won’t sound as rude coming out of your mouth.” She gave him a small smile.
Erik threw back both of the glasses like it was nothing. His eyes never left her frame. Wiping any liquid that didn’t make it in his mouth with the back of his hand, he pushed his glass towards her.
“May I have another miss...” He waited for her to speak.
“Harmony .” Her eyes looked exotic under the neon lights that surrounded the bar.
“Harmony. Can I have another shot please?” He brought his hand up to his beard and stroked it.
She blew out air twisting the top off the bottle. She poured him another but not as much as the last three times. Erik noticed as his face screwed up.
“What’s this? That’s not as much as the last ones you gave me.” His eyebrows knitted as he eyed the drink.
“Yeah well that was before I noticed that this has become a cycle within the last four days. Just before then I never seen you a day in my life and now here you are turning into a regular within a short amount of time. This is your second time being here and it’s only 8pm.” Harmony told him bluntly.
It was true. This was Erik’s second time today at the bar that he’s been visiting daily within the last few days. He was fucked up. About the whole situation from Amiyah to Durk and lastly Cane. There was a lot on his plate. So he came to Rue’s Bar & Grill. It was a local bar next to his place that became a quick stop for him on the way home. Erik wanted an escape even if it was just for a few hours. Amiyah would barely talk to him other than answering his good morning text, him and Durk were still not on the same terms for the job, and he hasn’t heard from Cane since he blew up on him that day. Erik was stressed.
“I don’t believe that’s your business how much I drink as long as I’m paying I don’t see what the problem is.” He wasn’t trying to be rude he just wanted to drink so he could be out.
Harmony smiled shaking her head. “Listen you’re not my only customer that drinks this shit okay I have other people that-“
“How much for the bottle?” Erik pulled out his wallet.
“Why?”
“Because I don’t give a fuck about your other customers. Now how much or I could take my business elsewhere?”
“Fifty-five.” Harmony gave a defeated sigh.
“Here.” Pulling out a hundred dollar bill he slid it across the bar to her and grabbed the bottle.
“It’s only a liter it doesn’t cost this much.”
“Keep it. For your trouble and your customer’s.” Erik snickered as he poured another shot.
Within the next hour about almost more than half of the bottle was gone. Erik sat at his end of the bar threw his shots back only taking breaks when he went to use the restroom. Harmony watching from the other end would look after his drink to make sure no one would do anything to it. His steps were starting to become unsteady as he would walk into some of the chairs but gain his composure back afterwards. Harmony shook her head as she walked towards him.
“Hey sir. It’s time to go home.” She gave a stern look.
Erik sat back in his chair. “I’m not done with my bottle yet.” Some of his words were partially slurred.
“Well you can come back and finish the rest tomorrow. It’s time to go. How did you get here?” She stated being concerned and not wanting him to drive home.
Erik laughed. “I got here by my damn self and I can take myself home. I don’t need any help.” Getting up from his seat Erik grabbed his phone and shoved it in his pocket.
He started walking towards the door when he knocked over another chair. Stopping he picked it up and walked outside. The night air hitting his face woke him up just a bit. He began slowly walking to his car when he felt a hand grab his jacket. Circling around he checked to see who it was. It was Harmony.
“Sir I can’t let you drive your car. I get off in about fifteen minutes, I’ll take you home.” Her eyes gave off compassion as she became worried about the stranger getting ready to put his life at risk. Harmony wanted to leave him alone but it would have been on her conscience.
“Nah I’m good ma. I’ve done thiss before.” Wiping his face Erik looked for his keys.
“I don’t think it’s a good idea. You’re slurring your words and you ran into almost all of my chairs in there. Please let me take you home at least. You can come back for your car tomorrow.” She stood in front of him and pushed him to keep him going in the street.
Erik looked stunned. He was shocked that she put her hands on him and also with the fact that her small petite body had enough strength to actually make him stumble back. He shook his head as he tried to walk around her but she followed his steps. When he went left she was there and when he went right she followed. She was not letting up.
“Look miss I don’t know you. You could be a serial killer with yo lil strong ass pushing me and shit so I’m not letting you bring me home.” Erik stated as he try to escape her but failed again. He cursed at himself for getting this drunk to where he could barely move fast enough.
“My name is Harmony and I’m not letting you drive. Now I don’t have to take you home let me order you a Lyft and I’ll wait with you.” She looked at him with pleading eyes.
Erik sighed and ready to end this stand off had finally gave in. He was drunk and just wanted to sleep this off. “Aight man fine order that shit and hurry up.” He shook his head as he sat on the curbside of the sidewalk.
Harmony gave a half smile of relief pulling out her phone. She went to the app and asked him for the address. Once he gave it to her she sat down next to him. Folding her arms together to try and keep herself warm from the night wind. It was a whole four minutes before Erik turned to his side noticing that she was still there. He smirked shaking his head.
“You ain’t gotta babysit me. I’m a grown as man.” He rested his arms on his knees.
“I’m not babysitting you I just want to make sure you get into the right car that’s all.” Her voice shivered when the wind blew.
“Why you helping me? You don’t know me. You don’t even know my name.” He eyed her up and down.
Harmony look back at him and gave him a blank stare. “Okay so then what’s yo name nigga?”
Taken back by her forward-ness he laughed. “Erik.”
They both turned their heading watching a white Chevy Malibu pull up in front of them. “Well Erik your ride is here and it was nice to meet you. Don’t worry about your car. I’ll make sure it’ll be here when you come back for it tomorrow.” Harmony had her hands on her hips and watched him walk to the car.
“Thank you.” Erik nodded his head as he slipped in the back slouching in the seat.
________________________
“Here you go. Thank you so much for doing this the last minute.” Amiyah smiled as she handed her stylist the money for her hair.
“No worries. I’ll see you in a month.”
She gave her a wave and walked out of the shop. Pulling up her phone she went to camera mode to admire her fresh knotless braids that stopped to the middle of her back. It was long over due for her to have a new style and she figured this would be a perfect looked. Now standing outside it was around ten o’clock at night. The streets were starting to get empty as the time past. She needed a ride home. She didn’t call Durk because lord knows how long it would take for him to get there and she didn’t want to bother Kelley so she settled for an Uber.
Ordering her ride she rested against the side of the building with one hand in her pocket and the other scrolling on her phone. She went to her messages to see if had any unread. There was one from Kelley saying that she wanted to see her hair when she was done and one from Durk saying that he wasn’t going to be home tonight. Then she saw Erik’s. His last text was sent this morning asking how she was doing but Amiyah didn’t respond.
After what happened between them four days ago she didn’t know how to react to him anymore. He scared her that day. Amiyah knew that Erik had every right to be upset but it was the way that he handled the situation that made her nervous. He didn’t seem like himself and extremely angry. She wondered if that would be the case every time they would get in arguments in their future. That was what made her afraid.
When Erik brought her home she went to her room and cried herself to sleep. She wished the situation could’ve went differently. It’s not like she planned on keeping it away from him forever, she wanted to tell him but it was always something that got in the way. Amiyah had no clue on had he found out but it had bit her in the ass for not speaking up.
Even though it was her who had fucked up it seemed as if Erik was the one in the dog house. He sent her countless text throughout the day asking how she was and if they could talk but Amiyah was still nervous. Yes she still wanted to be with Erik but they both needed their time apart to think.
The ride back to her house was short and fast. Walking to the elevator she waited until it arrived to step inside before pressing on her floor. Amiyah leaned her head against the wall as she gave herself a mental to do list. She had to get her clothes out for work tomorrow, clean her room and the kitchen before she could even think about taking a shower and getting in bed to go to sleep.
The doors opened on floor. Going through her bag she searched for her key. When she turned the corner to the hall where her apartment was she stopped in her tracks. There was Erik sitting in front of her door with his elbows on his knees looking up at the ceiling. When she was a few steps away he finally acknowledged her presence.
“Oh shit. What’s up Amiyah.” Erik stood up wiping the dust of his hands.
Flipping her braids behind her hair she sent a shy smile his way. “Hey Erik. What are you doing here?” She asked studying his movements. He was biting his lip out of habit and leaning against the wall.
“Uh I’m looking for Durk. You heard from him?” He held the back of his neck.
Amiyah squinted her eyes hearing him speak. She was starting to think that he was drunk.
“Last I check he wasn’t coming home for the night. Why don’t you just call him?” She asked stepping closer to see if she can smell the liquor on his breath.
“We got into a disagreement a few days ago. Now he acting like he can’t answer my phone calls.” He chuckled.
Yeah, it was definitely alcohol on his breath.
“You want to come inside Erik?”
Erik made eye contact with her. She was staring up at him with those innocent soft eyes that he missed. He noticed that she was now rocking a fresh hairdo that was making her look extra sexy to him. But Erik didn’t know how she still felt about their argument the other day.
“You sure?”
Nodding her head she smiled. “Come on.”
Unlocking the door they went inside. Amiyah hung up her jacket then walked to her room to sit her purse down and changed into her slippers. Going back into the living room she saw Erik sitting on the couch with his hands over his eyes. She walked into the kitchen and grabbed a water bottle and gave it to him.
“Thank you mama.” He spoke softly taking the top off and downing the beverage.
Hearing her pet name that he always call her gave her stomach butterflies. She sat down next to him. They didn’t speak only sat there quietly. Erik couldn’t stand the silence so he spoke up.
“I like this look on you. It’s cute as shit.” He played with the braids.
Amiyah giggled. “Thanks.” Her body tingled when his fingers ran over her scalp.
Biting his lip, his dimples showed when he smiled at her before stopping his actions. He took another gulp of the water now placing the empty bottle on the coffee table. Amiyah, with her face resting on her fist with her knee holding her arm watched him. The expression on his face was down and it made her sad. She didn’t want it to be like this between them anymore. She missed the Erik that she knew before everything happened.
Scooting closer to him she hooked her arm around his. “I’m sorry Erik.” She stated knowing her faults.
He glanced at her. Erik seen the genuineness in her eyes and knew that she meant it. Yes she was wrong for not telling him but he knew that Amiyah was a good person who was also still a bit naive when it came to other people. She had a good heart and wanted to please everyone. It still amazes him sometimes when he remembers who her brother was. Her and Durk was nothing alike. Durk was cold hearted and Amiyah had a big heart.
He looked down into his lap and shrugged. “I’m not tripping about it anymore.”
“It still doesn’t make it right. I knew what I did and I was wrong keeping that from you.” She intertwined her hand with his.
“I’m sorry for flipping out the way I did. I should’ve calmed down first and then we could’ve talked. I didn’t want you to see that side of me baby girl.” His grip on her fingers tightened as he spoke.
Amiyah nodded her head. “Yeah but you had every right to be mad.”
“Not mad enough to where it kept you away from me for days ma. You shouldn’t accept shit like that from nobody...wether it comes from me or not.”
“I understand.” She leaned her head on his shoulders.
“I just want you to keep it real with me baby girl. Don’t hold nothing from me. Tell me everything.” Erik tilted her chin looking into her eyes.
Amiyah’s averted her gaze. If she wanted a fresh start with him she had to let him know about everything.
“Erik there’s another thing...but I just don’t want to see you mad again.” Now she was the one looking down.
His chest tightened. From the look of guilt on her face he knew it was something he would disapprove of but he had to know.
“What is it?”
Amiyah hesitant but had to make it right. “Cane kissed me on the date.” She spoke lowly.
Erik heard every word. His hand left hers as he folded his together. His eyes was facing towards the tv that wasn’t on. The only thoughts the was running through his mind was wanting to beat Cane’s ass. Breathing in and out through his nose he had to calm himself down. He didn’t want to have another episode like how he did at his condo, but he couldn’t help but to be disappointed with Amiyah.
“Did you push him away?” His face was hard.
“It happened so fast but that was the only time. He kissed me not the other way around.”
“Did you push him off of you?” He repeated his question.
Amiyah closed her eyes. “No, but I didn’t kiss him.”
He felt himself getting upset all over again. “How would you feel if you found out something similar about me and Alexis? Would it make you mad?”
Amiyah furrowed her brows. “Of course I would , why would you ask me that?” She was confused.
“Because the same shit you accused me of trying to do that night when I asked you to be my girl, you’re doing now.”
Amiyah stood up in front of him with her arms folded. Here she was trying to apologize and admit her wrongs and he had the nerve to bring up Alexis. She was starting to feel disrespected and offended.
“Erik I’m apologizing to you and telling you everything and you bring her up. What the hell is wrong with you?” Her voice rose.
He stood up next. “What did I do now? Called you out and spoke the truth. Cause I clearly remembered you complaining about that in my car and yet you were the one who was tryna have your cake and eat it too.”
“How am I trying to do that if I’m telling you. You just sat there and forgave me but now you’re acting like you just found out again. Why?”
“Because you should’ve told me about him kissing you when I came to you about this the first time. Don’t have me thinking it was a just a date and that’s it. Damn it’s like could you really be honest with me Amiyah for once.” He sighed shaking his head.
The silence crept in the room once more. They kept their glance on each other. But it felt different this time. There was no more butterflies in Amiyah’s stomach that was there minutes ago and Erik was no longer nervous about seeing her when he had the Lyft sent here. The room was now filled with tension.
“I don’t want to do this anymore.” Her expression saddened.
“What are talking about?” Erik looked at her.
“Us. I don’t know if it was the thought of you along with the infatuation that made me say yes but I don’t want to do this anymore.” She folded her arms speaking lowly shifting between him and the grown.
“You breaking up with me?” Sadnesses had clouded Erik’s features. He could feel the effects of the alcohol wearing off.
“Yes.”
The sound of keys unlocking the front door alarmed both of them. Amiyah walked in the kitchen leaving Erik. The door opened revealing a Durk who had a confused look on his face. He wasn’t expecting to see his so called best friend standing in his living room. But his sister standing in the kitchen also caught his eye.
“The hell you doing here this late?” He placed his keys on the coffee table.
Amiyah walked back in with her sleeves rolled up and dish soap and water covering her hands.
“He just got here. I let him in while I was washing the dishes. He was looking for you but said you wasn’t answering your phone for some reason.” She gave a fake giggle trying to cover for the both of them.
Durk nodded his head turning to his friend.
“What’s up nigga why you here?”
Erik’s mind was still catching up from the break up he just had only seconds ago. He didn’t care about Durk coming in. He didn’t even know what he came here for but he had to come up with something. Anything to keep Durk from thinking suspiciously about seeing that him and his sister in their house alone.
“Uh I came to tell you that...I’ll do the job with you.” It wasn’t what Erik came over for but he had to cover himself.
A wide smile crossed over Durks face. He shook his head walking towards him. Holding his hand out he gave him dap with a half hug.
“I knew you would come through nigga. Let’s get this money.” He spoke into his ear.
Erik didn’t care about a word he said. His eyes was focused on Amiyah who had her back facing them as she cleaned up. He couldn’t believe that she just ended things like that. Over an argument that they were having. He started to wondering if it even meant anything to her? Did she take it serious, or was it only him? Yes they were only together for a little bit but Erik liked her. More than what he was used to. But this is what he gets when he let his feelings think for him. He ends up hurt in the end.
“Yo you hear me man?” Durk knocked him out of his thoughts.
“Nah say that again?”
Smelling the liquor on his best friends breath he laughed.
“Damn Erik you fucked up ain’t you?” He laughed.
Erik tried his best to put on a fake smile. “Yeah and I had a Lyft coming over here so I’ma need a ride to my place.”
“Aight man say less. We’ll talk in the car.” Durk patted his shoulder.
He walked over to his sister who was still cleaning up. Amiyah faced him feeling him near her.
“What’s up?” She asked placing the scrub down.
“I’m bout to drop this nigga off then I’ll be back. Okay?” It came out more as a question trying to see if she was cool with it.
“Alright. I’ll probably be sleep when you’re back.” She smiled
“Aight lock the door behind us.” He gave her a kiss on the top of her head leaving after Erik.
Amiyah closed the door and locked it. Turning her back she rested against the cold wood. Bringing her hands up to her face she cried when she realized it was over between her and Erik.
___________________
Waking up from the sound of his tv playing Erik sat up immediately reaching for the remote to turn it off. He sat up finding himself in nothing but his sweats on the couch. The throbbing coming from his head was killing him. Getting up slowly he walked to his bathroom going into his medicine cabinet and poured out three Ibuprofens before popping them into his mouth. He was definitely experiencing a hangover.
After Durk had dropped him off last night he went to his mini bar grabbing whatever he had left trying to forget the knowledge he had of Amiyah’s last words to him. He may have been drunk but he remembered that moment clearly. He couldn’t lie, he was hurt. When Erik went after her he didn’t plan for it go like this. He thought it would be better. He knew she was different and that’s what he liked about her so much. At least that’s what he had thought. It was over between them just as fast as it started.
Erik hopped in the shower hoping to revive himself. He needed a refresher and the hot water rolling down his skin was doing the job. But every time he closed his eyes underneath the water he would see Amiyah. She’s been taking over his mind since he left her place. Taking only twenty’s minutes to wash up Erik stepped out grabbing a towel and wrapped it around his waist. He walked to his bed sitting at the edge and checked his phone. A few missed calls and a message from Durk that caught his eye.
Durk 😈: I need you at the shop today after you go pick up your car...1:34pm
A confused look dawned over Erik’s face. Glancing at the ceiling he retraced his steps in his head and chuckled when he remembered what he meant. He forgot that he left his car in front of the bar he got drunk at yesterday. Placing his phone down he lotioned his body and then went to his closet and got dressed. Since Erik always had his own car he never had the need for a car service so he had to to download one the apps to bring him to the location. Grabbing his keys he left out his his house and went downstairs to wait on his ride.
It didn’t take long for him to arrive back at Rue’s. It was a ten minute ride there. Erik spotted his car still in the same places that he left it. A flashback popped in his head when he thought of that to himself. It was the same thing that some young woman told him when they were outside. Erik remembered her being feisty and powerful for her size the way she kept pushing him on the sidewalk. He couldn’t remember her name but he figured he could go in and thank for her for helping him not make a stupid decision.
Erik walked in the bar. Being only three in the afternoon it was quiet only having a handful of people inside. Some were sitting at the tables and others at the bar waiting for drinks. Strolling up to the counter top he saw her at the other end servicing drinks. Her bright smile capturing his sight even in the dimly lit place. It was a nice one. Erik sat in the same spot where he drunk his feelings away before he called her.
“Miss “Yo” can I get a drink?” He playfully yelled causing her to look at him.
Harmony turned her head when she heard the voice of the young man who was intoxicated that she helped out last night. Seeing the smirk on his face let her know that he was in much better shape. She served one of her regulars their usual before walking over to him.
“Nice to see you again, Erik.” Leaning against the bar she smiled.
“You have to forgive me I forgot your name with me being drunk last night. You mind telling me?” Erik sent a sincere smile.
Harmony playfully rolled her eyes. “Harmony and if you’re here for another drink I’m not helping you.” She started to walk away before Erik grabbed her wrist lightly.
“Actually, Harmony, I’m here to thank you. For what you did last night.” He let her go not trying to over step his boundaries.
She searched his eyes. “Don’t worry about it. It’s nothing.”
“No it was. I could’ve made a stupid ass mistake and ended my life. I really appreciate what you’ve done.” Erik stated honestly.
Taking in his frame, Harmony found herself attracted to him. He was a bit younger than what she was used to but he definitely was very attractive. Besides him over drinking and getting drunk she didn’t mind if Erik became a regular.
Harmony leaned in closer while Erik stole a quick glance at her glossy lips.“Like I said it’s nothing. Take care of yourself Erik.”
Erik gave an inside snicker as he watched her walk away.

For the meet ugly prompts, 02 indruck?
Here you go! I went SFW on this one and interpreted the prompt kind of broadly. It's set in the same world as this Sternclay prompt
Fun fact: there is a fire lookout in the Monogahela, but the structure I describe is based on more elaborate ones elsewhere
02. I bought a house three months ago but I’m finally moving in and discover you’ve been squatting because you’re homeless
Only in Duck’s life would “dream job” and “months alone in the woods” be equivalent.
The Bickle Nob Fire Lookout is a coveted position, and Duck is pretty fucking flattered they chose him as the ranger for July and August. He took the high clearance off-roader to get here, he’s got his bags full of everything he needs not to die of boredom (or anything else) and his schedule of supply drops. He’s as ready as can be and so fucking excited when he opens the door of the wide-windowed cabin.
Then he jumps back, startled to find a skinny, silver-haired man asleep on the floor.
“Uh, sir? This site is off-limits to visitors.”
The man wakes up in a series of catastrophic movements; he bangs into the wall, tangles in his blanket, and nearly stumbles out the window when he manages to stand.
“I, I’m sorry, I didn’t foresee anyone coming here.”
“Department spent all of June arguin’ about whether it was worth allocatin funds for this, so that’s why the place was empty. Fire up North two weeks ago scared ‘em enough to send me up here.” Duck explains with a casual smile; after all, even if he’s way off the trail, there’s no reason to assume this guy is out to cause trouble, “if you got lost hikin, I’m happy to radio down and ask for someone to come get you and take you back to your camp.”
“Nono, I, ah, I’m not lost. One needs to have a destination to be lost.”
“O-kay. Uh, well, whatever you’re lookin for, I’m afraid this ain’t it. This buildin is for the fire lookout only.”
“I promise I’ll be very unobtrusive. I even have my own supplies, you won’t have to worry about me in the slightest.” The man smiles, opening one of his two bags to show it crammed with shiny packets of food.
Duck shakes his head, “Can’t do it, sorry. I’m serious though, if you need a ride into town I can get a hold of someone who can help. Maybe, uh, you could find whatever you’re lookin for there?”
“No” the man sags, but begins zipping up his bags, “I do not think I will find it there. I am sorry for intruding.” He steps out the door, turning towards the deeper woods on the western slope.
“You need a map?” Duck calls. The man doesn’t so much as look over his shoulder.
Duck unpacks as much as he can, checks the weather station and notes the readings suggest those thunderheads on the far horizon are coming his way. By dinnertime, they’re right on top of him, rain pattering on the roof and thunder rattling the windows. He’s scanning the trees when he spots a metallic flash, not of lightning but of silver hair. His mystery visitor is huddled under a tree, wind forcing the hood of his raincoat back over and over again.
The rules and regulations in the forest are there to keep the environment and visitors safe. If something doesn’t violate those basic requirements, Duck sees no reason not to bend them.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
“I really cannot stress how grateful I am that you allowed me back in.” The visitor, who introduced himself as Indrid, finishes packing their scant trash into the can, “I promise that as soon as the storm passes I’ll leave you be.”
“Yeah, about that.” Duck scratches the back of his neck, “you really don’t got anywhere to call home, do you?”
Indrid opens his mouth. Duck stares, pointedly, at the holes in his white shirt and the worn shoes sticking out from frayed jeans.
“....No, I do not.”
“In that case, you stay here the next two months, on two conditions: one, you don’t get in the way of me doin what I’m here to do. Two, you don’t tell anyone I let you do this. Deal?”
“Yes, yes absolutely” Indrid shakes his hand, bouncing up and down a bit, “thank you so much. You will barely know I’m here.”
This turns out to be completely true and utterly false.
Indrid does keep to himself most of the day; he draws, reads, lays in the sun outside the cabin and generally stays out of Ducks way while he’s working. But he’s also the person who sits and jokes with him during meals, who eagerly follows Duck’s hand when he points out interesting birds or plants, and watches intently when Duck reads his instruments.
He never thought he could live in a fifteen by fifteen foot space with another person and not have a full head of grey by the end of it. Indrid Cold is the exception that proves the rule, Duck certain he’ll never be able to be cooped up with anyone but Indrid ever again.
It helps that he still gets his quiet time; Indrid will got out for walks, even watches for smoke so Duck can do the same. They use the wild foraging guide and Duck’s knowledge of local plants to bring back extra food. Indrid was particularly pleased when he located some wild blackberries. When Duck reminded him to watch out for bears near the berry patch, Indrid simply smirked and said there was only one bear on the mountain who could get him.
Duck’s daydreaming of what Indrid might do if caught on his way back from a dusk walk. And, more urgently, how he can convince Indrid that he wants to sleep outside tomorrow night. So it takes two tries of the front door before he notices it’s locked.
“Indrid?” he knocks, “you in there?” Stepping back, he finds the windows hastily covered by his bedsheets and blankets. He knocks harder, “that’s real fuckin dangerous, if there’s a fire we won’t see it. ‘Drid! Open the damn door!”
He continues banging, unanswered, as the moon--two days from full--rises above.
--------------------------------------
Indrid covers his ears to block out Duck’s increasingly worried shouts from outside. This is the right choice, the best of a bad bunch; it will keep Duck and anyone else nearby safe. The ranger will probably turn him away come morning, rightly furious at his irrationality. Indrid resolves not to argue with him; he’ll slink back into the trees, just like he did the last time someone threw him out for his transgressions.
It starts in his chest, his heartbeat climbing to marathon speeds in spite of him holding still. Then his skin prickles, silver hair sprouting from every follicle, followed by his back bowing in pain and his jaw elongating with a crack. From there the adrenaline kicks in, flooding his body so the transformation doesn’t render him unconscious (and therefore helpless) with pain. When next he raises his head, a werewolf with glowing, red eyes looks back at him from the darkened windows.
Beyond the covered windows, someone howls. Then he scents it, another of his kind coming dangerously close. He has to go out, he can’t leave Duck out there with something that will rip him apart, surely he likes the human enough for his mind to see him as a friend, not prey-
CRACK
The door splinters off its hinges; he growls, ready to defend his home. A deeper growl answers him as a larger wolf, black-furred and yellow eyed, stalks across the threshold.
“What. the. Fuck?” the newcomer snaps, “I told you, you can only stay if you don’t fuck up my work and locking me out comes real fuckin close to that!”
He cocks his head “Duck?”
“No, I’m the fuckin president of the united states.”
“I, I’m so sorry.” Indrid drops to all fours, then flattens to his belly just to be safe, “I didn’t know, I just wanted to be sure I wouldn’t hurt you.”
Duck points to the broken door, “you coulda just done that from the opposite side and I woulda been dinner.”
“No I, I know that if I confine myself I tend to be...calmer. I don’t get overstimulated and then agitated.”
“You coulda just told me. Lockin me out is real rude.”
Indrid whines, crawls close enough to nose at him.
“You don’t gotta do that; I ain't assertin dominance or some shit, I’m just a little annoyed.”
He whines again, “please don’t make me leave.”
“I won’t.” Duck’s voice turns softer.
“And you will not get angry at me for not being appropriately grateful for your leniency?”
Duck frowns, “Aw jesus, did you come from one of those old-school packs?
“Yes” Indrid grumbles, hating himself for how easily he fell into manners he loathes, how deep the teachings of his home run.
Duck eases him up so they’re both sitting, then noses the side of his face, “We don't do that around here. Least, I don't. I don’t spend a ton of time with most of the other Weres when they’re wolfed-out, but they ain’t big on tradition and hierarchy the rest of the time.”
“Ah. That’s, that’s good.”
The other Were stretches, stands and pads about the room, removing the make-shift curtains, “You gotta teach me how you’re so fuckin accurate on when the moon is full enough to make us shift whether or not we want to; I thought I had a day left. I, uh, I was gonna ask you to sleep in here while I ‘slept under the stars’ so you wouldn’t know.”
“You’re not afraid of hurting someone?”
“Nah, especially not this far out. Sometimes I hunt deer, but whatever strain of this I got doesn’t go feral unless some shit goes majorly wrong.” He drops the blankets on the floor, “don’t know about you, but I don’t feel like huntin tonight. Or stargazin. I’m beat from work.”
“Agreed. Transforming against my will always makes me tired.”
Duck lays down on the floor, yawns, “In that case: sleep tight ‘Drid.”
Indrid tries to do just that. But every time he catches Duck’s scent he wishes he could move closer to him, then remembers that would be rude, and continues in that back and forth until he’s wide awake. It doesn’t help that his Were form runs cold; he’s shivering in spite of it still being close to eighty degrees.
His ears flick at Duck’s footfalls. Then a warm, bulky frame curls around his freezing, lanky one.
“This okay?” Duck carefully drapes an arm over him.
Indrid sighs, feeling safer than he has in a year, “better than.”
---------------------------------------------------------
“I’m a seer.”
Duck looks up from his breakfast, mouth full but question clear.
“Last night, you asked me how I knew we’d transform. Seeing the future makes it rather easy.”
“Damn, that does sound handy.”
“In many ways it is. Though it carries some, ah, some downsides.” Indrid steers his thoughts towards safer paths, “If you’d like, I could use it to help you with the fire lookout.”
The ranger grins, the expression twice as warm as his fur the night before, “That’d be fuckin great.”
Indrid smiles back, keeps his eyes on the windows so as not to look longingly back at the rumpled sheets. They awoke this morning in a heap, Duck’s modesty preserved only by a blanket and Indrid’s hair stuck in all directions. He’d been ready to apologize for not moving away before dawn, but Duck simply reached out, stroked his hair down, and asked if he wanted coffee.
-------------------------------------------------
“You’re right, you can see more animals this way.” They’re perched, fully transformed, on the rocks outside the cabin. Indrid knows how to use his night vision for hunting, but Duck is teaching him how to use it for more peaceful matters.
“Yeah, long as you stay put most animals get up the nerve to nose around some.”
They’d transformed side by side, Duck banging his head in the process. Indrid licked near the bruise and made soothing, sympathetic sounds when Duck whined and cursed his luck. Back home, being demonstrative was frowned upon; here, Duck seems to always be casually bumping their bodies together.
When they go to bed several hours after moonrise, they curl up side by side without hesitation. It’s so very easy to tune out his visions when Duck is near and Indrid falls asleep while the ranger is still whispering about the birds they can hear.
He wakes up an hour later in a panic, disasters of visions past tearing through his mind.
“‘Drid? What’s wrong?” Duck noses the base of his neck.
“Nothing. Just a bad dream.” He closes his eyes, tries to focus on Duck’s scent, his breath, the wind in the trees, but still the ghosts of his memories lurk in the corners of his vision.
“Can I try somethin?” Duck murmurs. Indrid thought he’d gone back to sleep.
“Of course.”
Teeth tenderly and ever so carefully clamp the fur and skin of his neck. He goes limp in one breath. He was high status enough that no one ever did this to him, but goodness does he wish they had
The ranger let’s go, “Do I need to do it again?”
“Please.”
Duck obliges and Indrid whimpers, melting shamelessly in his arms.
“Thank you. I think I can sleep now.”
“Any time, ‘Drid. Uh, before you, uh, go to sleep there’s somethin I wanna ask you. Since you need a place to stay, do you, uh, wanna stay with me? In Kepler.”
“You’d really like that? You, if this is out of pity-”
“It ain’t.”
There were no futures where it was. Indrid wanted to hear the words all the same.
“Besides” Duck nuzzles him, “we already know we make damn good roommates.”
Indrid can’t help it; he howls, brief and joyful, safe in the knowledge that Duck will be ready with a laugh and a kiss in reply.

Wounded Hearts 6
Tumblr media
Nebraska  June 1997  Dean's POV
After Sam tells Dad how to kill the kitsune and I give him some pointers on how to talk to girls, Dad and I go to the bait and tackle shop on Main Street to see about getting some type of weapon to stab this thing through the heart with.  Of course we have to mislead the salesman and tell him some elaborate tale.
Listening to Dad talk about a father/son fishing trip makes me wish it were true. That my father and I are taking off to some lake to relax and enjoy nature was fact and not just some conceived story so that questions won’t be raised when we ask about knives that can cut through flesh and bone.
The man behind the counter doesn’t even bat an eye as he shows us his stock of hunting and fishing blades. I immediately set my eyes on a bowie knife with a distressed wooden handle and a nice shiny blade.
Tumblr media
I can’t wait to sink it into the heart of the monster. Dad picks a much smaller but still just as deadly knife and after paying for them with a fake credit card, we head back to the motel to change.
When Dad and I get back to the room, Sammy isn’t there. About the time I pull my phone out to call the pipsqueak he crashes through the door, out of breath. Dad is on him in an instant.
“Where the hell you been boy?”
“I know where the kitsune is,” Sam says, out of breath.
Dad and I jump into action and in no time at all, the three of us are in the car with Sammy giving directions from my usual place, shotgun..
We pull up to this cottage-style house and Sam tells us this is where he followed the monster to.
Tumblr media
“What were thinking son?” Dad says as we both produce bowie knives to take it out. “It could have noticed you and made you its next victim.”
“Nah,” Sam answers with a smile. “I’m a Winchester. I’m good at staying hidden.” I got to say, I’m proud of him. He not only found out what we were dealing with, but how to kill it and it’s lair. All while Dad and I have been running around oblivious.
“Well, you stay here. Let Dean and I go in and deal with this animal,” Dad says and we both step out of the Impala. We hesitantly walk toward the house and Dad motions for me to get behind him.
As we near the door, we both notice drops of blood trailing down the steps. I look up at Dad, wondering what we are going to be bursting in to. Did it bring a victim back here and is inside right this minute, draining them of their bodily fluids?
Dad reaches out and turns the knob and the door silently opens. Right there in the kitchen of the house is the body of a woman. But upon closer inspection, I can tell this isn’t just any woman. This is the kitsune, the monster we’ve been hunting. Her nails are long and darkened and her face is contorted. There is a definite knife wound through her torso; someone had already beat us to the punchline.
“Well, I guess our job has been done for us,” I say after Dad checks the rest of the house for any other people, victims or monsters.
“Only thing left to do is dispose of the body,” Dad tells me. “Look for salt, lots of salt. Like a canister of it. Then go to the car and get the gas can out of the trunk. Hurry Dean.”
I begin going through cabinets until I find a container clearly marked salt as Dad drags the body through the house and into the backyard. Getting the can from the car, Sammy and I follow behind to see him place her toward the end of the lawn and hand him the salt.
After covering the deceased with the condiment and the gasoline, Dad pulls out a book of matches and tears one off. With a flick of his wrist, the match lights and he throws the burning stick onto the doused corpse and we watch as it goes up in flames.
While the remains burn Dad looks perplexed. I know he is thinking the same thing I am. ‘Is there another hunter in town? Did they gank the bitch?’
“Sammy?” I say, getting my little brother’s attention. He is staring intently at the fire. “When you were following her, did you see anyone else doing the same? Anyone who looked like they were taking a special interest in this particular person?”
He just shakes his head and turns back to the blaze. I can’t blame him though, it’s good to see all your hard work be fulfilled.
After burying what is left of the kitsune, we climb back into the car-me in shotgun and Sammy in the backseat- off to the next hunt.
Tumblr media
We’ve been on the roads for hours! The sun sat over the horizon and now the moon is high in the sky, lighting up the highway. Sammy is passed out in the backseat and I’m leaned up against the door with a jacket draped over my shoulders and chest. I’m so sleepy that my eyes are burning but I know if I succumb to it, I’ll just be tormented with dreams of her.
Rebecca has visited me every night after I close my eyes. Dreams of her laughing at my corny jokes, hugging up to my side when she got scared during All Saints Day, to her eyes as I made love to her the day before Dad showed up to whisk us away again. Damn, I miss her!
And it wasn’t just because she was the first girl I had been with intimately; no, I really think in those few hours getting to know her I had begun to fall for her.
I desperately want to go back to Fairfax to see her again. And to find out what went wrong; why she ignored me the morning after we were together.
About the time I am ready to just go to sleep and get it over with, Dad’s phone begins to ring. I straighten up and listen as he answers. Hearing one side of a conversation makes it hard to determine what is being said on the other end but from the way Dad is talking I have deduced that it’s Pastor Jim calling. Pastor Jim Murphy has been a friend of Dad’s for as long as I can remember. Dad had began leaving us in the pastor’s care after a spirit had almost taken Sammy’s life. But now I am old enough to protect my brother and we don’t go to his place that often anymore. In fact I don’t think we’ve seen the good pastor for at least a year.
I like Pastor Jim, I do and I appreciate all the times he watched us but he was too religious for my taste. For someone who has seen and fought the things he has, the man is still spiritual and believes in God and Heaven. I much preferred going to Uncle Bobby’s up in Sioux Falls. He had a junkyard full of old demolished cars and he let me have a hand at fixing any of them up. It was fun trying to figure out what made a vehicle run. And he let Sammy be a kid, running around and just playing; not worrying about what is out there that aim to do us harm.
Dad hangs up and pulls to the side of the road. When the car is stopped Dad looks at me. “You awake son?”
“Yea. What’s up Dad? That was Pastor Jim, right?”
“Jim is having a problem with an exorcism,” Dad explains. “Apparently the entity isn’t wanting to leave the body. He’s asked for my help. We’re right outside Blue Earth now. I want you to drop me off at Jim’s and then hightail it to Bobby’s.”
“Why?” I ask, confused to why Dad isn’t letting me go with him.
“Because Dean, I said so and that’s final. You understand?”
“Yes sir!”
After dropping Dad off at the end of Pastor Jim’s driveway, I climb behind the wheel of the Impala and drive off. Once I am far away enough that I know Dad won’t hear, I lay down on the throttle and soar down the deserted highway.
“Oh Baby! Listen to you purr. One day you will be mine,” I promise with a smile. I have always loved this car and the power it held under its hood.
Tumblr media
Dad must have called Bobby because as I pull up, the cranky old man is sitting in one of the rockers on his porch, waiting. He helps me get Sammy into the house and into a bedroom upstairs before we congregate to the kitchen. Bobby reaches into the fridge, pulling out two beers. Popping the caps off of both of them, he hands me one that I eagerly accept. I love this man!
“So, John tells me you helped on this last hunt,” Bobby says after taking a swig. “A kit-kitsune?”
“Yea,” I answer, mimicking him and blanching at the bitter beverage, earning a chuckle from the older man. “A kitsune. Vile creature that thing was. They feed on brains to stay alive. This one though, it ain’t alive no more. It was ganked and salted and burned.”
“Good job, son.”
After we finish our drinks, Bobby tells me to head on up and get some sleep, Dad will be by tomorrow afternoon to pick us up. I climb the stairs to head to bed but I’m not going to sleep. I know what awaits me in my dreams and I don’t want to remember Rebecca Quentin just now. It still hurts too much. I miss her, yea but the memories are torture.

25. Part 2
Tumblr media
I could have done this mixtape at my home but I am trying to keep that place clear as possible, I just wanted to put something out for the fans while I go into hiding with Robyn but I think I won’t be doing anything with Robyn, she is very angry with me. She keeps swearing in the messages “who is that?” I pointed at some new chicks “you ain’t been around in a while, these are some new OHB girls, they nice. They came Miami with us, and the thing is. They here for us” nodding my head “but they looking at me” I said, Sinko is funny “because you’re back now” I have no idea who they are but they not ugly “I did my thing, just waiting on the vocals from Gunna, he should be here now” just speaking on him and he walks in “about time nigga” sitting back in the chair “got held up” dapping him sighing out, I am a little tired to be honest. I have not been sleeping at all, I have been non stop just working on this mixtape, this was an idea just a few days ago, but I am used to sleeping now but I guess I am back on this no sleep shit “you need to put your vocals down nigga, we been waiting” Gunna acting like I bought him here to do drugs “nah, I don’t do that anymore” waving him off, imagine throwing something like that to my face. My phone started ringing in my hand, looking down at the ID, Robyn is not asleep “man” so this is clearly bugging Robyn then, answering the call “yo” I can’t be all cute with her, also she has been very mean to me on text “you not answered my text?” she wonders why I haven’t you called me a dickhead, useless and all that. What do you want me to say to that? Thanks?” she being deadass “Chris, you going to read the lyrics? Go through it with me” nodding my head “yeah, one moment” taking the paper from him “oh now you busy, busy. I can’t believe you are doing something else, all I fucking wanted you to do is sort out your home! I am fucking angry with you Chris, I am priority. You’re useless” she’s said that so many times now “you and everyone else say the same shit, what is new? I can’t please everyone” getting up from the chair, the chatter in this room went awfully quiet “we are looking for hoody” my face softened seeing the police here, looking at Hood “just be quiet for one minute” I said to Robyn, she is ranting on in my ear “sir, I suggest you be quiet” the officer said to me “me? Officer, I was speaking to my friend” holding my phone up “then you put your friend away while we search you all” I am going to kill Hoody “call me back” disconnecting the call.
The police paraded us outside, for nothing when they came for one fat nigga and it’s all his fault. They made us take our shoes off, take all of our things out of our pockets and then sit on the floor, for nothing. I am clean, I have no weed on me at all. Worse part is there is an audience, they arrested Hood but now want to cause shit with the rest of us “get up, get your shit” looking over at Gunna, they are arresting him too. Getting up from the ground “hurry up! Leave now” I hate the fucking police so much, placing my feet in my sneakers “all of you go home unless you want to be arrested!” maybe if he stops shouting then I will do it, leaning down to pick up my things and then seeing a foot kick my phone away from me on the ground, looking up at this fucking white officer “hurry up” he stared at me “come on, here. Let’s go” Sinko held my phone out to me “come, let’s go bro! It’s not worth it” Sinko yanked me away, I want to punch his face “they got Gunna for having drugs” Lo said at the side of me “I will drop Sinko off” I said to Lo, I just want to get out of here now.
Sinko ended up coming to mine but it’s whatever, he saved my ass because I was about to knock the officer out for kicking my phone away “good looking out though” walking to the front door of my home “I saw it, I was putting my sneakers on and I was like nah. You about to snap so I had to get your ass out of there” I was close “I was close bro, very close. I need to take this call, I will be with you” Robyn has gave me so many missed calls “hey, I am home anyways” closing the door, watching Sinko walk off to the kitchen “what the fuck happened!? Are you serious, I am sat here scared looking all over Instagram and Twitter, and then I see a video of you on the ground. Are you serious!?” jogging up the steps “I know, I got caught up with the shit, Hoody was getting arrested, but they decided to keep us all behind and search us all, I was clean. They let me go and some of the boys, but the white officer kicked my phone and my mind was going blank, I was so close to snapping but Sinko grabbed my phone and dragged me. It’s fine, I am home now anyways” Robyn sighed out “do you know how dangerous that is Chris!? It scared me; I was so scared. I can’t do this, you promised me to come back now come the fuck back!” she shouted “I know, I am sorry. I miss you so much” Robyn sobbed out “you’re stressing me out, you really are. I told you I needed you here but yet I am alone, and then that. We already have so much to go through, I didn’t need that for us. I am going to go and cry myself to sleep now. I don’t want you to be on the phone to me, just stay home” she put the phone down, this has made it worse “fuck” I breathed out.
Tumblr media
I slept terribly; I mean of course I would. I slept but for a few hours, what did I expect when my husband has been in California for two weeks, he has done nothing but send his god forsaken cars here and then says to me, I am thinking on what to do, so what have you been doing for the past two weeks, I gave him the benefit that he was thinking for himself, I wasn’t on his case, I left him to it but I kind of fucked up, I should have done the thinking for him I should have made sure he did what I said, I should have gave him bullet points, I am just disappointed in him. And then on top of that the police nearly arresting him, I just had to cry, I did not want his face on the blogs for the wrong reasons but look at that, he’s on the blogs for drugs, drugs he said he never had because honestly he would have got arrested if so, I am just stressed. I wanted him here to help me, to help me in the bath, to rub my back, to cuddle me, to help me with the baby crib. I told the designer to leave that, I wanted him to do it because it’s cute to do, but no, he hasn’t come back at all. Stuck in this big house with no husband, we never had a fucking honeymoon period and it upsets me, he is there doing nothing but annoy me “I made you breakfast, every day I see you Robyn and you getting bigger and bigger” my mom knows how to make me feel better “thanks, it’s the depression eating for me” I have to moisturise myself, not even my husband here “my breasts have been leaking too, a little anyways. Morning Dennis” least I have him to entertain me.
I usually eat all of my breakfast, but I just played around with my food, I didn’t want any of it because I am sad about this. He promised me, the amount of times I have cried down the phone, nothing has worked with him “I heard you crying last night” my mom said, she broke the silence in the room, I feel like she was waiting to say it “I know, I just want my husband back with me. I might as well say it, but you may see some news about Chris. He was in the studio, police came to arrest someone else, but they ended up searching them outside the studio which caused people to be watching, but he is ok. I am sure your wonderful son will be calling you” I know what Rorrey is like “he did call me, he said is that Robyn’ husband? Is that what she waited for” I fucking knew it, I knew he would and I am angry at Chris for it “I did actually, I am happy” I lied “tell your husband from me, he needs to do better” looking away from my mother, I am just seething right now. The buzzer went off “that must be his cars” pushing the seat back “I will come with” Dennis got up with me “help you and protect you” I laughed as Dennis placed his arm around me “that is sweet, means a lot to me boo” Dennis chuckled rubbing my bump as we walked to the door.
I breathed out at the commotion, two lorries with containers blocking the road. I mean what a way to cause a commotion “hi, I need you to sign this. Just so my boss knows it’s been delivered and you was here to take delivery from a Mr Brown” taking the paper from him “I guess they are having issues getting the big thing in here” I pointed, leaning the board on my bump as I signed the paper “oh he will be fine, he will be able to get that in” looking up at him, passing the paper back “like I said” oh he has got it in my front yard “it’s causing traffic, so like I am not even sure how that works” I pointed at the hydraulic thing Chris is supposed to know how to work, I don’t “what is it for?” he asked “if you park the car on there, the ramp lowers and parks the car for him” I mean I don’t know this shit “there should be a system to work it in the house, I can work it for you?” nodding my head “Dennis, take him downstairs. There is some thing where he can work it out” stepping to the side, it is freezing out here. Crossing my arms across my  chest, he sure did fit his huge lorry in this but then the second one is just there blocking things “hi Rihanna” the guy smiled at me as he got ran the side of the lorry “hi, what is in there?” I asked, there is two lorries, so I am confused on why the fuck is on each “this!” he shouted “it has two Lamborghinis in this one and a Rezvani tank and a Bentley in the other. The shipment strictly said we had to do it in two, he didn’t want us to load four in one” he said three, the little liar “ok” I am not happy with him.
That is good, the guy actually knows how to work the thing. They are lowering them in, so I am glad about that. I don’t want them parked out here, people could know it’s his cars, people are weird “that is so ugly” I said staring at the tank, why did he bring that here like what the fuck “it’s very Chris don’t you think?” Dennis is right it is, he will need it to sleep in actually “he said three cars to me, he bought four and a complaining neighbour because they couldn’t park” I am sure that was the last one “could you also sign off for this shipment please” the guy held out the paper to me “sure” I always lay the board on my bump, it’s just getting big so why not “my kids will never believe I met Rihanna, you are actually as they say. You’re very beautiful, but we are sworn to secrecy” I laughed “well, something to tell the grandkids” I laughed “thank you Rihanna, nice meeting you” he walked off “it’s very nice in the parking space downstairs, it’s so fancy. I like” looking at Dennis “thank you, can I leave you to make sure the gates are locked and all that. I am getting cold now” walking behind inside.
Dennis gasped “no fucking way, her hand really all on your bump. I could literally count those fingers. Oh my god, let me see. I can get a good picture here” here he goes “probably could, it’s no fun for the mother though” watching Dennis grab his camera “it’s usually around here” touching my bump lightly “you not going to do it now, are you” I bet she won’t, I feel like my daughter already wants to come out, it is so weird to see. I gasped seeing her do it again “did you get it?” he better have now “I did, my finger was on the button” he sat next to me “this is actually do cute, I like it” he turned his camera to me “oh my god, that is so fucking weird” I laughed, that is just so weird to see a fucking hand in my stomach like that “I like it, never know. Could be my album cover, I could use that for something. That is amazing” I am well amazed by it “anyways, I shall go and have a nice soothing bath. I will leave doors open mother. Don’t worry, if you hear me shouting then please come and save” pulling my top over my bump “well be careful, it’s important times for you now” my mother is right, but she worries about me a lot.
It is way harder to get out of the tub now, but I pull myself out. I look good pregnant, but I know I have gained from the eating I do; I can’t help it. Fastening the robe around me a little tighter, I don’t know why I bother because this robe barely fits around me. Let me check my phone, I didn’t take my phone with me in the bath just because I wanted some peace and if Chris rang he would ruin my good vibes, I just feel so upset with him. I don’t care if he comes anymore now because I told him I needed him now, at these important times and he did nothing but fuck around there “mhmm” Mel has gave me so many missed so calls, that’s what I also get for putting my phone on silent. Tapping on Mel’ name so it can ring her back, sitting on the edge of the bed “where have you been!?” Mel half shouted “in the bath, relaxing. I need it” I really did need it “are you sat down?” frowning in confusion “yes I am, are you pregnant!?” I will be so excited if so “uh hell the fuck no, so I am not sure if it has spread anywhere yet. So I posted myself in a bikini because I look good and my comments are being flooded with random shit, did Chris’ cars come?” nodding my head “uh yes” I am sure I complained that they were “I don’t know why I asked, so my comments are being flooded with is this true, and then my messages on Instagram are being flooded with a video, I was deleting comments anyways. So like, I sent you the video and on the snapchat video there is a caption saying welcome to the neighbourhood Rihanna, harmless. You can vaguely see you stood outside” putting my head down already knowing “but you can see Chris’ Lamborghini being driven out of the thing, like there is no denying who the fuck that is, because that is some unique wrap on his car. I have not seen it hit blogs yet but there is some meltdowns already happening, I am here panicking not sure what to do or say” this is not good, this is bad “oh my god, you seen what happened to Chris though? I am so fucking angry Mel, I told him to be here for me. I don’t know what to do, do I just ignore it and let it happen or catch it and do it myself before it spreads, like announce it on my terms and then just leave it as that, fucking Chris and those stupid cars. Tell me!?” I need help on what to do with this, this is not good for me or this situation “you can’t even say let your team handle it, your team don’t know anything, this is difficult. I would erm, you know what. Break your own news, Chris is in California and he had to get a stupid headline. I wouldn’t mention the marriage part, I would say he is helping you with her. I think do it your way, don’t let these blogs run your show. And then you can go back to the thing of releasing that personal blog and it shows you both are married, don’t be hard on yourself, you can do it. And then get Dennis to look after your phone, and rest” Mel knows I am stressed now.
I called Chris, he didn’t pick up so he can just get the tail end of it when I tried “let them guess Robyn, don’t do that” my mom said “then my team will call me, then it becomes are big bubble of lies when the truth is there. The fucking video shows his car being loaded off, whoever took it was just videoing me but then exposed more than that, fucking idiot person” the longer I wait the more I don’t want to do this “it is one less thing from you to hide, I loaded this picture” Dennis turned my phone to me, smiling at the picture of Chris and I when we had the mini photoshoot in the bedroom, I do remember this “I looked better there, now I am huge. I like that picture actually. We both look so happy, he was shy there too” I giggled to myself “mhmmm, so the caption then. You can write it, oh my god. This is going to be bad, mom” looking at my mom “why? You have been happy, that is your husband. What is upsetting you the most” my mom put her arm around me as I cried, putting my head down “the hate, the judgement. I am going to be called terrible things and it’s not fair, oh god. It’s like when you watch your favourite show and you don’t want that couple to be together, it’s hard. For us”, my mom kissed the top of my head “come on Robyn, you have been ever so happy. Don’t let this get you sad” taking in a deep breath “ok so, put this. When they say it takes one night, it’s true. We are so excited to meet our daughter” I have nothing else to say, shaking my head “that is it” I managed to say “are you sure you want me to post it? You can always just wait it out, let the storm blow over” shaking my head “they will end up catching him arrive here because they will be watching us now, what other excuse will he make unless he doesn’t come back, probably won’t anyways. He will have to deal with it on his side now, he didn’t pick up” I sniffled “post it and keep my phone with you” this is a mess.

#Fictober Day 21
“Impressive, truly.”
Tumblr media
(N’Jobu x N’Jadaka)
N'Jadaka stands on the court, dribbling his basketball halfheartedly as the sun began to set on Oakland.  The chill in the air was not enough to get N'Jadaka back inside his apartment complex as he practiced his jump shot over and over again, hitting brick after brick.  N'Jadaka ran after the ball with a heavy amount of frustration that made him angrier with every miss.  His breathing was heavy as a rock formed in his throat and his eyes began to sting, hindering his vision as he makes another missing shot.
This time his father, N’Jobu, was waiting under the basket to retrieve the ball.  N’Jobu catches it, squeezing the ball between his hands as he cautiously approached his upset son.
“What is troubling you, N’Jadaka?”  N’Jobu asks softly.
N'Jadaka wipes his eyes with the back of his sweatshirt sleeve.  “I told you not to call me that, I’m Erik.  It doesn’t matter.  You can’t help me.”
N’Jobu looks to his son with pity.  “Your mother has a name for you, and I have one as well….I can’t help you if you don’t tell me.  What’s wrong?”
N'Jadaka crosses his arms, “Baba-”
“Now, I must stop you there.  If I can’t call you N’Jadaka, why would you call me Baba?”  N’Jobu asks with a serious tone.
N'Jadaka looks at him wide eyes.  “But-- ugh, fine.  Call me N’Jadaka since my friends aren’t around.  Baba-”
“And an apology would suffice as well.  I may be your father, but I have feelings too.  You are my son, I love you.  And we should be able to address each other comfortably.”
N'Jadaka snaps his head back to beg the sky why.  “I’m sorry Baba, but can I please tell you what is bothering me now?”
N’Jobu bounces the ball a couple times.  “Sure thing.  I was waiting on you.”
N'Jadaka sighs.  “My friends and I had a project at school to talk about our family and where we come from.”
N’Jobu nods.  “Yes, you drew out that delightful tree with our names on it.  Wonderful job.”
N'Jadaka looks at his feet.  “But when I told them about Wakanda, they started laughing.”
N’Jobu held the ball and squatted to come to his son’s eye level.  “I’m sorry to hear that.  It was not nice of them to do that, they just don’t understand.”
N'Jadaka’s eyes began to puddle again.  “They called me a monkey boy, and said I was from the Jungle Book.  They said only cartoon characters come from Africa, and that I am a clown.  Why wouldn’t they believe me?  Wakanda is real, right?”
N’Jobu laid a hand on his shoulder.  “More real than anything they may ever see, my son.  They aren’t as aware of it as we are.  The continent as a whole isn’t taught about well here, much less our history.”
“Why don’t they know about us, Baba?  You showed me on a map, but the maps at school don’t show Wakanda.”  Erik asks.
“That is an excellent question, Daka.  Come, follow me upstairs.”  N’Jobu led N’Jadaka to their home, opening the door to the savory smells of chicken frying.
“It’s about time you came in here.  I told you, you’re gonna catch a cold!”  his mother scolds at while the pan pops.
N’Jobu comes up to her kissing the side of her face.  “Give the boy a break, love.  He’s had a long day.”
His mother looks back at him.  “Erik, why haven’t you said anything to me?”
He kicks his sneakers at the carpet.  “Hi, Mama.”
She holds an arm out for him to come under, hugging him.  “Those boys bothering you again at school?”  Erik nods.  “I told you not to pay them no mind.  Half of them got daddies that ain’t there or in jail.  You are already more fortunate than they could dream to be.  My smart, handsome son just has too big a heart, people take advantage of that.”  She holds his chin, tilting his face up to look at her.
N’Jobu comes up to stand over them both.  “She is right, you know.  She always is.”  N’Jobu smiles, grabbing her waist with pride as she squirms away from his ticklish touch.  N’Jobu take N’Jadaka over to their kitchen table, moving a panel in the wall to bring out a globe like figure.  Setting it in front of them, N’Jobu points toward the center of Africa.
“That, right there is where we are from, right?  Now what is Wakanda is a little country of shepherds and farmers, but what do you know about it?”
N’Jadaka thinks a moment.  “It’s the vibranium, right?”
“Good!  And vibranium is pretty cool to use, right?”
N’Jadaka nods excitedly beaming.  “Yeah!  It makes everything go, and it’s really strong, and it can help people!”
N’Jobu grins prideful at his son.   “That is right, Daka.  Very good!  So if someone has a really cool item, that can do all of that, would people leave it alone or want some too?”
“People would want it!  But it’s ok, because you can share, right Baba?”
N’Jobu sits back in amazement.  “Impressive, truly.  My young son has more sense than a stubborn King could ever gain.”
Erik’s mother comes in with a plate of the chicken and some spare plates.  “Bubu, help me with the sides please.
“Sure, one more moment.  N’Jadaka, you are right, we can share because it can help people.  There are so many lost ones out there who have no means to make their lives better, but WE can help them.  Myself, Uncle James, you one day, my boy.”
N’Jadaka smiled at the thought.  “Nah, Uncle James isn’t as strong as we are, Baba!  We can help everybody in the neighborhood by ourselves.  And maybe the kids will stop talking about me and want to know more about Wakanda instead!”
N’Jobu gets up to head for the kitchen.  “Maybe, son.  Your progressiveness is enviable.  Some people are scared to share, that’s why Wakanda is not widely known.  But I promise when it is done right, it can be beautiful.  You will see.”
As his mother and father collect the dishes, a pound raps on the door.  N’Jobu straightens up, putting a hand to his lips, making his wife go back to N’Jadaka.  He walks slowly to the door.
“Who is it?”  He asks, dropping his Wakandan accent for a gruff, hood tone.
A white man behind the door says, “Sir, there is a warrant out for someone here at this residence.  I can guarantee you ain’t her, so just open up and let us do our jobs.  No one gets hurt.”

Maurice done ruined my sleep, he is really taking this teething shit bad. I come downstairs and left Robyn to it, Robyn is in a bad ass mood and I don’t know why. I think and I ain’t about to say it, but she must be on her period but if I say it she will scream at me like I caused it. I can’t even sleep down here either “you look tired, try and go to bed?” Noella said, waving her off “nah, I’ll be fine Noella, sorry that we woke you” we woke up Noella “it’s fine, I literally heard you’re fucking useless” I chuckled “I wouldn’t get out of bed, Robyn is in a bad ass mood so when she ran out of bed I also ran out of bed and came down here. She is scary angry” I am not about to put myself in the firing line “Majesty was the same, she was very needy. Irritated, in pain. It will go by” I wish it would hurry up “it’s taking it’s time, you can see the teeth coming too” it’s annoying “bless his heart, he must be going through it. You know what Chris, it’s probably because she is tired. Mothers get tired too, Junior wants his mom a lot and not you. When he’s calm you have him, I just know it because it happened to me and I got so tired. It’s just one of those moments where the baby is going through it and the first thing they do when they are in pain is that they want their mothers, the time he had colic. Just be there for her, she may bite but it’s tiring and it’s Christmas coming up, she wants everything perfect. Auntie Monica said to her it’s fine, just look after him but she wants to do things” Noella is right, Maurice has been bad for the past few days.
Standing outside the bedroom door “stop it, no” hearing Robyn say, then it followed by his cries. Let me just suck it up and walk in, pushing open the bedroom door “you are chewing and drooling everywhere” closing the bedroom door, Robyn picked up Junior. Crying baby, I can’t really speak over that “I have fed you already” slowly walking over to the bed “can you please get the teething gel, it’s on top of the vanity table” Robyn asked pointing, turning around and jogging over to the table. Picking up the tube of gel and hoping this works, I don’t like my son crying and I don’t like Robyn in a bad mood either. Robyn laid Maurice out in front of her “look at his face, it’s so red” Maurice has gone back to pulling his ears again when he cries, I know he only does that when he is in pain. I feel very useless “ssshhhh, it’s ok baby. Hopefully the pain will go away it’s ok” Robyn hovered over Maurice, I don’t know how she about to do that with a crying baby. Robyn pulled back his hand that was in his mouth and Maurice did not like it “damn” he has got a temper on him, Robyn put her little finger in his mouth and put the gel on his gums “that’s it, mommy is not torturing you. Getting all angry” Maurice is slowly calming down.
Robyn placed his pacifier in his mouth and picked him up “there we go baby, hopefully you can sleep now” she got back into bed, placing the bed covers over herself and Maurice, his head on Robyn’ boob, he is half drifting off to sleep “I have a headache but I’m tired, what’s wrong?” Robyn asked, her eyes hooded “I just wanted to help, I am sorry about earlier. I should have got out of bed” she is really about to cuss me out because she has just rolled her eyes “men, they are what they are I guess” clearing my throat “I am sorry, I don’t know with this thing. I try, only you can soothe him and help” Robyn looked up at me “because he wants love and cuddles, as soon as he cries you just like Robyn? He is crying, he just needs some loving. It doesn’t matter, it’s fine Chris. Don’t worry about it, you are a great dad” I feel a little offended now “well I guess I will just go” no point being here I guess.
Robyn didn’t mean it when she said I am a great dad, she was so sarcastic with it “I guess I am only good with dogs and not baby humans” all four of my dogs including Princess are all sat with me outside “I think I need to become a dog whisperer, y’all are quiet as shit today” I am actually very offended by Robyn, I mean ok I give Maurice back to her because he doesn’t want me, she is the one with boobs not me. Zeus got up from the side of me and walked off “oh you going too? Don’t like the vibe huh” he is not here for me “uncle, uncle, uncle” hearing Majesty shouting, hearing her shoes hitting each step. One at a time “uncle!!” she shouted again “yes, I am here. Near the pool baby girl” kicking my legs in the pool, it’s a nice day today and I have nothing to do “yay!” Majesty screamed in my ear wrapping her arms around my neck “trouble, what are you doing? You scared my dogs away” she giggled “I play, baby asleep” thank god he is “I jump in there” she moved back from me “did your mom say you can? Can you even swim?” I don’t think she can “mommy say yes” before I could even catch her she ran and jumped into the pool “Majesty!” I don’t know if her ass can swim, I panicked and jumped into the pool myself. Holding her up “I can swim!!” she giggled, I don’t trust her “you lying to me woman, stop it. I been hearing Robyn lie to me upstairs” now I got wet clothes thanks to this one.
Monica shook her head seeing my wet clothes on and dragging Majesty with me “oh god no Chris, I didn’t want her to go in the pool” Majesty ran off away from her mom “but…” like I wanted that, I am the one that jumped in and now I got a phone that is broke and full of water “forget it” I said to myself, the floor behind me is wet and if Robyn sees that she will cuss me out. Dragging myself up the steps, I have to see Robyn up there and it will give her another excuse to call me useless as always. Maybe I need to go out, go out with who though. Closing the bedroom door and Robyn is still asleep with Maurice so we good, placing my phone on the side table to let it dry out. I guess I can get changed and call Mijo “fuck” I said to myself, I don’t have no damn phone. Shuffling over to the side table, grabbing Robyn’ phone and unlocking it. I know Mijo’ mobile number off by heart, he ain’t ever change that shit at all. Placing the phone against my ear as it rang out, Mijo might ignore it thinking it’s Robyn “hello?” Mijo said ever so nervous “it’s me, no need to be scared little bitch. What are you doing?” Mijo let out an oh “oh dumbass, Rihanna only calls when it’s something wrong. Why couldn’t you use your phone?” he questioned “my phone was in my pocket when I jumped in the pool so it’s not working. Are you free today?” I hope he is “I ain’t doing shit my nigga, what you thinking player? It’s been so long, kid free too. Come over” thank you god “ok cool, I’ll come to your crib” I have something to do now.
Robyn is still asleep so I’m just going out, I’ll tell Monica or some shit. Fixing my Rolex on my wrist as I walked out of the bedroom, there is really no point in actually waking her because she will just say something mean and I don’t want to hear it. Jogging down the steps, I feel fresh as fuck now. Jumping down the last three steps “I can do that!” Majesty spat “oh no, not you. You get me in trouble” I pointed walking to the living room “I not” she jumped up trying to grab my hand “you did, damn liar. Y’all I’m going out, so when Robyn wakes up let her know for me. She is still asleep” Lionel got up from the couch “where are we going?” I chuckled “we?” I said confused “oh dad let him go out, he don’t need you. His fast car will give you a heart-attack” Lionel really about to do this “come on, you can’t leave me with these ladies, come on” he walked by me “you see his pimp walk?” I pointed, Lionel looks too excited to go out.
I’m really taking out Lionel “listen, I was going to take out my fast car but sir. I will not be doing that, the Rolls Royce it is” opening the door for him “you young kids are no fun, I will be ok you know” I am not responsible for anything “well, we love you too much. I rather be safe, you need to show me the pimp walk though” Lionel laughed sitting inside car, closing the door behind him. I am excited, nobody is going to ruin this for us because we ain’t been able to talk and I know Mijo don’t mind. I was only going to the studio and I am sure Lionel won’t mind. Closing the car door as I got in “roof up or down?” I said giving him a choice “down boy” whatever his heart desires “I even think I got two pairs of shades to wear, I got a pair for you and me” opening the middle panel “see, I knew I did. Here you go, pair for you” Lionel took the shades from me “this will look cool? I don’t really mind the sun” placing my shades on “to look cool, we both look good now” I nudged him “look at us” Lionel looked at me “I feel young already, take me to the club” I busted out laughing “I am banned from that, maybe next time. So what will you like to listen too? Luther Vandross? Babyface? Or..” he waved me off “something cool, we look cool” I will put some rap on then.
Looking to the side of me smiling, Lionel is loving it being out. He is even bopping his head to the music, looking ahead of me smiling to myself “I got fans” Lionel shouted waving, looking to where he is waving and it’s just some girls trying to get attention. Their titties about to leak out if they don’t quit doing what they are doing, I simply waved and drove off “Lionel, I got a feeling you wasn’t looking at their faces” I said shaking my head “god blessed me with eyes son, so was you” look at Lionel catching me out “like you said, we got eyes. I think they wanted you though, they want a sugar daddy” turning off “oh, I only got my heart for Clara. But we got eyes” he added, I chuckled “it’s nice to have male company, to have some laughs” turning the volume down on the stereo “it’s nice to have some company like you, we are going to pick up Mijo. You have met him before and then we are going to the studio. Are you ok with that?” parking up outside Mijo’ apartment “I am happy with that” I hope Mijo comes out, I don’t have a phone at all “Lionel, you ever had the issue of your wife getting angry at you for nothing? Junior is teething and she been rude as hell” it will be nice to hear his opinion “well not really, I was always busy working. I think you have the luxury of being around like that, women find anything we do annoying Chris” he’s got a point “you are very sensitive son, you don’t need like to hear negativity and if it is Robyn saying it then that upsets you more. I know what ever she did say she won’t have meant it, kids can strain a marriage too” and then Robyn wants more.
Tumblr media
“I am sorry Junior but I need a little space” I said as I walked away from the walker, he is not having it. He doesn’t want to do anything but for me to hold him “aww Robyn, just sit back and let us do everything” waving my mom off, I am just tired and in pain from this period. Junior cried out of course “where did he go?” I said to Noella as I walked around the corner “oh they both went out, Chris seemed a little sad. He felt bad from running away from you” rolling my eyes “men are just useless, and then he has the nerve to come to the bedroom and look all sad. I am not feeling good but yet you wanted me to get out of bed? I felt like gravity hit me, my period is so heavy and as soon as I got out of bed my flow was bad. I am just tired, and then he keeps crying. I am annoyed now though, who told him to go out? Where did he go? He didn’t even take his phone, the ass” Noella looked at me all wide eyed “you look very done with shit, it’s supposed to be happy times and you’re stressing. I think maybe you should just relax. Maybe let Chris have him, I mean like have him on his own. Maybe he doesn’t get that, he says Junior doesn’t settle with him” I shrugged not caring “because he doesn’t want to deal with the crying part so he gives me him, I know my poor baby is going through it but it gets to me. I am having a meltdown right now” turning back around, my mom is not going to help him because Junior is still crying.
Wiping Junior’ mouth, I hate seeing my son like this and he is quiet now with me “mommy loves you, I know I have been a little annoyed but I do love you. You mean the world to me” Junior lifted his head up watching Majesty run by “what is Majesty doing?” kissing his cheek, following Majesty to the living room “baby play now auntie?” Majesty asked, looking at Junior he seems to be interested “well we can try, he might play if I sit with him” slowly sitting down on the floor, oh the pain I am feeling right now “oh lord Jesus” I said to myself “my big boy” placing him on the ground, he was quick to make sure I am with him “it’s Majesty son, she wants to play. Look” Majesty shuffled over “aww nooo, no cry baby” Majesty said, Junior’ lower lip is quivering “it’s ok baby, mommy is here” grabbing the soft ball, placing it next to him.
It’s actually been hours, it’s late at night, my grandfather is out. Where the hell is that husband of mine “mom, on Christmas eve. You may need to stay somewhere else” I should be off my period by then, I am so annoyed with Chris that I may whip his ass in the role play “why? It’s a little short notice” Noella just smiled at me “what?” I said to her “nothing, damn. Stop biting, Auntie asked you why, hoe” looking over at my mom “I just need the home to myself, just to set up the home. It’s better if you don’t ask questions” let her use her mind and think on why “no, I am not leaving the home” why is she making life difficult “mom, please” I am not in the mood already “if you want to have sex with Chris then feel free but I am not moving when the next day is Christmas Day Robyn, it’s stupid” taking in a deep breath “then I am locking you all in the bedrooms, done deal” why is everyone ruining shit in this home.
God, I can’t move from this spot. I am so very comfortable and I feel like if I move then I need the toilet and then the pain comes back. I am content and so is Junior, he is busy with his hands “you have been very moody Robz” my mom said “can’t I feel the need to be moody? Do I always have to be in a good mood” so annoying “oh decided to come back dad!?” my mom spat, looking to the side of me and seeing both my husband and grandfather “I am tired now, it’s my bedtime” it’s rather late for my grandfather, looking back at the TV “what did you do to him Chris?” my mom asked “I took him to the studio, he helped me with a song. Lionel about to have his name in the books” rolling my eyes “where did you run off too?” I said without looking at Chris “out, just with Mijo and Lionel. My phone was in my pocket when I went into the water, I am going to eat anyways. This useless dad won’t bother” he is so childish “bother what? You don’t even try, now you are going to walk away. Just holding onto things like a woman!” I half shouted.

CROSS Ch6 - Call On Me (& I’ll Be There)
Tumblr media
“You’ve had yourself a good rest there, Mr. Cross?” The Mayor asks, moving a bit to the side to allow Jason out from the doorway.
Jason tiredly replied, chuckling a bit, “Yeah. Had a good rest, I guess.”
“Wonderful!” The mayor laughed, “See, I was right to leave you under Ms. Collier’s expert hands. One of the best people we’ve had the privilege of living here, and a helpful hand in just about every circumstance. That woman is a miracle worker - a great addition to our lovely town! Oh, and what a town it is, Mr. Cross!”
He waves his hands, in such an exaggerated way that it was like a show performance. Rasmussen, with a confident smile and a pump of his hands, stepped back as he continued on, “Now I know you’ve had an unfortunate impression, but let me assure you that you’re under some good care. Few ever get a chance to be tagged along by yours truly, so consider yourself lucky! I know every good man and woman that lives in this here great town, and I’ve been with Blondie ever since it’s creation - and I’ve long held the title of mayor, because I’ve done and made it so great! So let me tell you, Mr. Cross, that despite what misfortune you’ve had, you’ll be coming into a much brighter, and greater place that’ll - guaranteed - see to that your needs are tended to. Now don’t that sound like a great deal?”
“The best deal I’ve ever had.” Lies Jason, resisting the urge to roll his eyes.
“Excellent!” The mayor excitedly replies, “Then how about a quick tour? Shall we?”
With that the mayor starts proudly marching out.
Jason Cross follows along out of Ms. Collier’s home and onto the open dirt road that crosses through Blondie. Upon exiting, he discovered that the building he was leaving was a two storey tall hotel made of wood and metal sheets, with Collier’s home being at the very end of a long row. He gazed up, not only seeing a porch where several townsfolk stood, but also the Aurora sun shining down on him. Jason turned back to the surface, and gazed out to the rest of Blondie. There in the late morning, Jason could see the town much livelier than last night. He looked around the area - taking in the sights and personality of this Aurora town.
Blondie’s people had a certain fashion to them. Many of the men wore old minder’s jumpsuits, either cut, tucked, or modified to their own personal style. Sometimes he could see someone having shorter cut sleeves, or with top zipped down to let their skin breath more. Some of them had additions such as belts vests, desert coats or reinforced work pants. The women were much similar, with few sporting around a dress. There were some girls that wore a head-scarf or a hat to keep themselves covered from the sun, and others had on a poncho made from the same cloth material as the jumpsuits. For a lot of them though, there was that western aesthetic creeping into their attire, something that dug into Jason a certain way. He watched them all, either going about their own business or making some leave out from the town for an errand.
The town of Blondie itself was laid out like a T, with stamped down road cutting through two lines of buildings of varying heights, and the Saloon at the very end accompanied by two other structures. At the other end of the town was the storage-house, keeping safe all the food for the town behind 4 stone walls and a set of locked doors. Towards the West was a single guard tower, aimed right where the Black Road was, and was high enough to overlook the whole town and then some. Surrounding the town were various tents and small wooden houses - providing homes to those who can’t fit in the hotel. Of the buildings that lined the road, Jason could spot a good variety of shops and services.
As he scanned the town, Jason was then brought out of his thoughts by a loud smack on his shoulder, followed by the much louder talks of the mayor. Rasmussen grinned from ear to ear, and his glasses reflected a harsh light at Jason as he spoke up towards the man,
“Ain’t a town like Blondie! It’s a grand celebration of a colorful time in Earth history. A damn beaut’, don’t you agree?”
Jason shrugged, trying his best to bury an annoyed grimace that was about to come out. “She sure is.” He plainly commented.
“Ab-sol-utely!” The mayor exclaimed with sheer pride in his voice, “She is my pride and joy, almost like a daughter of my own. Built her up many years back with the help of some mighty fine folk. We bought off several shipments of wood and stone from Moresatta - sunk in a lot of money and left ourselves damn near broke, but it was worth it when we worked the nearby mines. Made a fortune three times over what we spent, and that was in the first year alone!”
“I’m familiar with the history.” Jason states, continuing as he dryly adds, “Didn’t the mines go empty though?”
“Psh! They ain’t empty!” The Mayor shoots, doing his best to keep a grin as he starts walking - with Jason following suit. Rasmussen continues, with hands brought up to grip the folds of his coat in a showy fashion. His tone was like a snake-oil salesman making his deal, but that almost seemed unintended. “Despite those nasty rumors, Blondie ain’t out of the mining business just yet! We’ve taken some missteps, sure, but with difficulty comes a chance to learn. We’ve slowly transformed this town and made it something that if possible - though unlikely - can last beyond the mines. We’ve invested into trade, and into establishing ourselves as one of the key stopping points from here to the big city. Like a lot of the best towns on the Black Road, we can adapt to face all odds that this planet throws at us!”
“Take, for instance, our many shops!” He declares, waving towards the businesses that line the road. Jason takes a moment to look them over, seeing a decent variety - which Rasmussen is all too happy to point out. “We’ve got your much important trade shop for all your many needs! Everything and anything is brought here, so much so I’ve had to grant Mr. Creedy extra room in the back just to store it all!” He laughs, almost forced but Jason was unsure if the guy was putting on a show or was that convinced of his ‘material’. Jason glances at the shop, with dusty windows with various scavenged or bought items being showcased. He could almost see an elderly couple doing inventory inside. Then Rasmussen continues,
“That right there is the Church of the Old Faiths. Wonderful place it is, to be personally honest with ya. Rented out to some good folk preserving the scriptures, and they hold a weekly group study and mass for the town. I’ve been there twice in the time they’ve been part of Blondie, and each time I come out happy to have let them here!”
The church was just a regular wooden shop lot, but in place of advertisements were signs informing passerbys the schedule of weekly mass, prayer groups, and teachings. At the door was an engraving of the Earth, and orbiting around it were all sorts of symbols: crosses; crescent moons; stars of varying pointed ends; and other such strange figures Jason couldn’t understand. As he and the mayor walked by, Jason could see an old hooded man in white, brown and black cloth robe walk out - with a hat dangling a ridiculous amount of metallic trinkets hanging off the brim. Jason walked a bit faster upon seeing that.
“Finally, for this little tour!” Rasmussen states with the highest of glees. “Our very own butcher’s shop! I can tell you, Mr. Cross, that Blondie’s lizard meats are freshly cut and expertly served for the best taste you can get! So that when you and your friends come to Blondie, the first three things that’ll come to mind will be: mines, drinks, and meat! You’ll be sure to have a taste, right?”
Jason comments, smiling truthfully, “Already had sir, and I got to admit it was certainly a welcome treat”, which prompted a glorious ‘excellent’ from the mayor. Jason then gave a quick glance at the butcher’s shop as they continued walking up the road. At the moment the place was closed, with a sign on the door telling it so. Looking through the windows he could see a selection of wrapped meats, all showcased before any passerbys.
Eventually the two men stopped, just a short walk away from the Saloon where a small crowd is gathered. Jason could make out a sea of concern among all the faces there, with every man and woman talking amongst themselves - about the fight, the deaths, and the man who was there. Past the crowd he could see the bartender inside, sweeping away all the mess while he’s accompanied by Frankie and Charlie - who each give a glance at Jason, but are unable to meet him without going past all the townsfolk.
His attention is pulled away when Mayor Rasmussen lets out a sigh of frustration, “Ah dang it. I thought I told those folk to let it be. Didn’t mean to let you see this...”
Jason looks down at the Mayor, cocking his brow a bit as he talks plainly once more, “You thought we weren’t gonna talk about last night or something?”
“Nah, that ain’t it.” Rasmussen states, his excitement lost in place of some genuine concern, “Folks here ain’t had much experience with the uh… nastiness of the Black Road. Our wonderful town here has had the great fortune to be far enough aways from the banditry and violence spread out across the Road. I’ve seen to that and, might I add, have done a good job of it. Unfortunately that has left our people scared and confused of what to do in light of last night’s events.”
In a bit of honest sympathy, Jason says out calmly, “Sorry about that, by the way. I didn’t mean to bring any trouble here - really.”
“Oh, no need to apologize. Just a fact of life here.” Rasmussen replies, sighing greatly out of displeasure this time around. “Still, it’s a problem our town ain’t prepared to face. I’ve been trying to settle things down and calm everybody, but they’re all caught up and afraid of what’s going to happen. We got some folks saying they’ll be another attack, and that kinda talk gets in the way of the peace we got here.”
Jason is silent for a moment, thinking over the situation. He takes another peek at the crowd, feeling responsible for what he has brought to them. It wasn’t like he didn’t feel terrible about last night’s event before, but the sight of the people worrying about some bandits bothered him. Blondie was quiet - too quiet. Everyone here had gotten soft, and it didn’t seem like they were in the right attitude to deal with the more serious threats from the Road. To Jason though, this wasn’t a serious threat. A couple of gun-toting bandits? It’s not so different from what he’s faced before in his work. It would only be fair, for what these people did for him, to make sure they’re not threatened by this gang.
After some thinking, Jason says out to Rasmussen, “Tell ya what.”
Rasmussen looks up at Jason, as the young man continues.
“You guys did well enough to help me - I should do right on you all the same. I’ll handle your bandit problem.”
The Mayor’s lips curl and stretch into a grin, as he asks aloud, “You serious?”
“Serious as can be.”
Immediately, and with utter excitement, Rasmussen pumps his fists and starts to dance, all while he bellows out a tremendous, high pitched, “YEEEE-HAW! Now that right there is what I’m talkin’ about! YEEEAH-HOOOO!”
Jason began to scrunch up his face with the feeling of cringe building up. Seeing this short, pudgy, brightly-dressed man dance and scream brought memories up to Jason of his more youthful days: when he and his brother once bagged a difficult bounty that got them running across the road for three days straight. When they eventually caught the bastard, he and Fred decided for once to let out a “yee haw” like in the old videos. The roped up crook stared at them like they were a bunch of freaks off an asylum and right then began to laugh. Fred stared daggers at the man, while Jason gave him a punch to knock him out.
His attention returned back to the present when he saw Blondie’s mayor dancing still, with his knees bent and spread wide as he hops in place. Eventually he calms down just enough to stop dancing, but he’s still talking in full volume,
“Now son, normally I don’t get to Yee-Haw’, but damnit is this not the perfect opportunity for a Yee-Haw! I’m just loving what I’m hearing, and it’s such a pleasure to have you do this for us! This town is blessed to have someone of the Crimson Cross here, and we’ll be eternally grateful for you coming forward the way you did.” He calms further, no longer shouting but instead now enraptured with what he’s imagining, “I can see it now: you and your crew… riding from the hill-top to take the fight to those bandits! Revolvers and rifles shooting out every which way - had I the chance, I’d love to come with you for such a spectacular sight!”
Right then Jason urgently interrupts and covers his ass, saying, “Better I just handle this on my own, sir. A gang like this doesn’t need every member of the Cross coming in to deal with it.”
“Right right…” Replies Rasmussen, calmer now but still delighted. “Well, thanks nonetheless. You be safe now, alright? Oh, and better you explain this all to the folk over by the bar… better to hear it from a hero like yourself than their mayor. That ought to calm them down.”
“Sure…”
With that, Mayor Rasmussen leaves off to his post - trotting down the dirt road with an excited skip in his step. Jason watched, feeling absolutely relieved to no longer have that guy at his side. Then, with a quick turn, he heads off towards the crowd.
The crowd were still chatting amongst each other, with few and growing taking notice of Jason as he started to get close to them. One by one, then five and ten, began to turn their heads towards the tall, muscular man that was standing before them and the bar. Charlie and Frankie looked on too but were unable to do much with the crowd still between them and Jason. For a moment everyone had quieted down, and Jason could get a good look of their faces once again. The fear was present, among other expressions of concern and frustration. This kind of violence is far too uncommon for this place, and they’re all demanding something be done with it - especially when it’s hit about the only source of entertainment for miles.
Right before Jason could get a word in, a women among the crowd speaks out, “M-Mr. Frederick, Sir?”
The name felt like a sharp pinch at Jason’s side - a reminder of last night’s events, and of a whole lot more. He is unable to say anything before more people begin to speak aloud.
“Frederick!”
“Frederick Cross, Sir!”
“Frederick, what can you do about these bandits?”
“The children can’t sleep when we’ve got dangerous men coming over!”
“My farm’s vulnerable, Mr. Cross! Can you help?”
Eventually it turned into a ringing sound, and Jason’s eyes twitched as he was starting to get overloaded with all the questions and noise. He stretches his arms out, trying to signal everybody to calm down for just a moment. Still they squabble and chattered,  trying to out-speak each other in a frenzy of concern and fright. Jason sighed, took a deep and yelled out, “Alright ya’ll, listen!”
The chattering stopped, and so did the ringing.
He gives them another moment to dwell in the silence, making sure nobody tried to let out another word. Satisfied, he thinks for a second on how to proceed before finally speaking in a calm yet confident manner.
“Ok, now that I got your attention, I’m here to tell you all what you need to know. The name’s Frederick Cross, and I’m currently on the job of fixing all this. You guys don’t have anything to worry about, because you guys have a professional on duty here. Now the two guys that came here: they’re done and dealt with as of last night. As for their gang, they ain’t gonna be a problem.”
“How’re you sure about that?!” Cries an old lady from the back. Many mutter the same, either on their own or with their loved ones alongside.
Jason answers, “Because I know these guys, ok? I know how a lot of these gangs operate, and what signs to be worried of - and what I saw here wasn’t worth worrying about. This is just some small, up-and-coming gang that is trying to make it big. They probably have about 10 to 15 members at the most, and not a lot of experience in between the lot of them.”
“But sir! How do you know that?” A man calls out, wondering.
“Simple.” Jason starts, explaining, “If they were big then they’d have come here already. I have a lifetime of experience with these gangs, or raider bands as they’re sometimes called. I’ve faced against a lot of the bigger ones - going around with crazy names like REDS or Jozies. Those gangs mean business, and they’re not one to just send a couple guys to do their businesses when they can send a whole lot to get it done right. Of course, I know they ain’t big because they don’t at all look the part. These small gangs are very common, and they like to stir up trouble just to make a name for themselves. They like to come to towns like this, especially in the middle of the night while everyone is asleep - because they know they can’t deal with everyone here, in the likelihood that they’ll be armed and ready. Not to mention they only had one gun between the two that came last night, so they probably don’t have much to arm themselves. So from how I see it… these guys aren’t a problem. Not for you, and certainly not for me, because I will be dealing with these guys for what they’ve done.
The crowd murmur among themselves, many a lot calmer than when they arrived. Right then Jason closes his statement, “Now I promise you folks: I won’t stop until I dealt with this gang and made sure you’re all safe. You can trust in my word as a Crimson Cross that I can finish this job.”
Some smile, feeling safer now. They take his words as a great relief, with many beginning to move away - all while giving their thanks and best wishes to Jason as they pass him by. While some are still a little unsure, their nerves have surely lost their stress. However, an elderly man walks to Jason and asks of him,
“Frederick Cross, is it?”
Jason looks to the man, is silent for a moment, and answers not long after, “Just as I said.”
The man nods slowly, looking up to the young Cross before he says out, “Many know of you and your brother’s adventures, sir. You done a lot of us settlements plenty of good, more than the government even. We don’t doubt your skills one bit. They call you a master gunslinger, a tracker and a man of good wisdom. I think I can speak for a lot of us here that… we’re honored to have you here in Blondie. We hope you’ll do us well in protecting this town.”
Jason gasps a bit though hides it well. His smile perks up, and he says with a slight chuckle and righteous tone, “Well sir, it’s just as much an honor to help. I’m sure if we had my brother here, we’d do even greater at it.”
Then the man frowns a bit, replying with a shrug, “Perhaps.”
Before long he leaves, and so does everybody else. Not much else is said.
Jason’s smile drops slowly, and a tiredness comes to his eyes. He can feel something trying to come out, but he shoves it down. Squashes it. Buries it, and pats the dirt for good measure. He resumes his walk towards the bar, feeling almost the same way he did that night when coming in.
As he steps up to the bar, he’s greeted by both Frankie and Charlie, the former of whom gives a happy shout of, “Hey hey friend!” before meeting Jason halfway with a great, big hug. Jason’s smile returns a bit as he does the same to his friend, as Charlie directs a look of happiness and relief at the man. They hold on for a moment before letting go, with Jason giving a pat onto Jason’s uninjured shoulder. He laughs aloud,
“Finally awake from the dead, eh?! You been out of it for some time, thought for a moment you’d be sitting this one out.”
Jason tsk’d, a slight cocky smile on his face, “I ain’t letting a fight like that put me out of the job just yet. Shoulder will have some issues for a while, but some more rest and I’ll be good as new. Now what’re you two still doing here? Should you be off onto the road or something?”
Frankie laughs some more, pulling Charlie close and pointing him over, “Well me and this fella weren’t in the mind to be leaving soon. We still got the road to Moresatta left, but in the meantime we figured it was better to see you off first and maybe help around a tad. Charlie here was quite insistent to see what other trouble you’ll be getting into.”
“That true?” Jason asks, half surprised, other half… delighted?
Charlie nods, still looking uncomfortable from being held so closely. “I came here to see the stories and history of this planet - and what’s better than actually seeing it in motion? If you don’t mind, of course. I’d be honored to capture it all for my collection.”
Jason’s features soften as he seems to smile more genuinely this time around. He brings his hand forward to offer a shake to Charlie, who almost excitedly takes it though tries his best to be polite in the end. Meanwhile Frankie lets Charlie go, standing back to give the two guys some room. Jason states, “Well, happy to have you along Mr. Wills.”
They soon let go, with Jason saying out, “Now that’s all settled, how about we give the bar a look? I’ve got a feeling we could get something out of it before I make the drive out.”
Frankie and Charlie agree, following Jason into the bar as they approach with slow steps. Jason takes the lead in entering the building as he confidently strides and retraces the steps he took after the fight. Frankie is more lax, keeping close to the walls to overlook everything while Charlie does his best to stick close to Jason.
When they enter, the group is given a sight not much different than what they left behind. Some of the blood had been mopped up, and the two bodies taken away. Tables and chairs all over had been stacked or moved to allow more freedom to clean the mess. The music-player from before was still running, back on the sort of music that best fit this place. Currently it was playing “Call on Me (& I’ll Be There” by Floyd Tillman - or so Jason remembers. Meanwhile, much of the knick knacks and antiques have been moved away, either to be scrubbed off of blood or to allow more space to better wash the walls. The bartender from last night is in the middle of the main floor, moving another chair away by the time the group entered. He takes a moment to notice Jason, letting out a gruff exhale before putting the chair down onto the ground.
Jason looked back at him, a bit wide-eyed at the moment. Charlie was a bit more nervous coming back, as memories of last night come back to both of them and the not-so-thrilled owner. It was at that moment that Jason was able to really look at the man, seeing as he was no longer just a face in the background.
The bartender’s face spoke of hardship: a thick, angular jaw and cheeks, wrinkled from years of harsh sunlight and with a bushy, dark grey beard that went every which way but up. The same coarse hair was seen in his brows, that covered up an intense, almost ever-constant glare. Covering up what little hair he had on his head was a white cap, looking a bit brown from age and dirt.
His body was built with strength, but some of it had been lost. His arms were bare and muscular, but sagging in areas. His bartending apron hung proudly from his shoulders, and underneath was a miner’s jumpsuit, with sleeves rolled up. Near the collar was an interesting sight: a set of military patches from the UROE, neatly stitched for personal flair.
The two men stared at each other for a long while, with a heavy silence building between them both. Eventually Jason, with a strong sigh, broke the silence with a comment, “Just want to start off by saying…. That I’m really sorry for what had happened to your bar. I promise to pay back the moment I can. If it’s any consolation, I don’t think I’d have dealt with those so well if it hadn’t been for your collection there.”
For a moment the bartender simply stared back in silence before replying back in an old, strong voice, “Well, if anything, I’m glad that you dealt with those men… Jason.”
Jason coughs a bit before speaking out, “Oh… look, I was a tad drunk and--”
“And nothing.” Interrupted the bartender, his voice commanding discipline yet was done so calmly. “Now I appreciate you stopping those two strangers and saving the lives for your friends and I. However, I don’t like you lying to the town on your name, especially when it holds so much weight for a lot of folk. These people have a lot of love for the Crosses - we ain’t seen ‘em in many long years. So you best understand how serious this whole matter is.”
Jason felt guilty right there. It was like he was back in the farm, being scolded by his own father. It felt all too familiar, and hurt much the same. Once the man was done talking, Jason asked softly, “Are you going to tell them?”
The bartender shakes his head, “Nope.”
“No?”
“You are gonna tell them.” The bartender states. “If you know what’s good for you and this town, you ought to come clean and tell them the truth. It’s the best choice you can make.”
Jason tsk’s, wincing a bit from a light but sudden head-ache. He sighs, settling on saying to the man, “That’ll come when it comes. Right now I’m set on helping however I can, Mr…”
“Duke. Just Duke.” The bartender says, shrugging as his calm behavior is left unchanged. “If that’ll be, then that’ll be. So is there anything you are looking for?”
“It already looks like you cleaned up a lot so far. I was hoping to find any signs of whatever gang these guys belonged to - maybe how they’re dressed would give an idea.”
“Well, you’re going to have some problems with that”, Duke explains. “Couple of our men here came around and dumped the bodies far off. No clue where though, but the wild must’ve taken them away soon after, as they were gone by morning. Now I did get the chance to grab something off of them - a patch and their knives. I have no idea what it means, but you’re welcome to check them out on the table corner over there.”
Duke points over towards a far off corner of the bar, and sure enough on the surface lay two knives that belonged to the gangers, and a patch torn from a jacket.
Jason gives a nod to the man and heads over, with Charlie and Frankie following suit.
With careful hands, Jason held one knife up to inspect it:
It was similar to the other in many ways. The blade was serrated, short and thin, with an indent of some poker cars and a snake on one side. The smooth wrapped leather handle had a red tint, with metal pieces colored with copper. Aside from the blade there was nothing of interest in the handle.
As for the patch itself, there was plenty of details to read: it was shaped in an oval with the image of a white wooden coffin wrapped by two snakes against a black background. The snakes were colored with stripes of green and red, and the coffin was marked with the red initials of “C.C.”. Then, circling around the image was the name of the band, written in a sharp font: “Stone Groove Aces”.
Jason put the knife down, sighing a bit as he tried to collect his thoughts. He thinks aloud towards his friends, “Don’t remember anybody called the ‘Stone Groove Aces’, so very much likely a brand new gang. The initials on the coffin in this here patch don’t leave me a lot to work with, though I’m inclined to believe it means ‘Crimson Crosses’ - maybe a personal grudge. It doesn’t really give me an idea on where or how to find them.”
Frankie chimes in, “I can count better the number of gangs that don’t outright hate you better than the ones that do, Jason. Hell, I’m surprised there isn’t a gang simply called the ‘Crimson Cross Haters’.” He chuckles a bit, while Jason smirks a little at the thought.
Charlie meanwhile takes the second knife carefully into his own hands, examining it himself. He slides his fingers at the knife’s blade, looking very closely at it. Before long he gives his own theory, as he then feels the grip. “This has more the look of a cooking knife than any proper weapon.”
Jason shrugs, “So? Gangs here often use stuff like that when they’re short on supply.”
“Ok, but why both?” Charlie ponders, “Obviously they’ve been customized, so why would they settle on a style of knife like this? There might actually be a purpose to it, maybe in connection to their origins or some mentality. This handle material is also pig leather. Soft and rich, but not suitable for tools compared to other forms of leather.”
Jason and Frankie side eye’d one another, as Jason then directs his look back at Charlie and asks, “Now how would you know all that?”
Charlie looks at them both, a little nervous now that he’s under the spotlight. He then explains, as he puts the knife down. “Told you, I’m from Tyrell. Plenty of good colleges over there. I personally did some studying on agriculture and goods - alongside general logistics and trade. I’ve never put the actual work on account of the environment there, but I learned a great amount thanks to their libraries. They’re very informative, by the way. You can find a whole lot of different subjects and material, in fact they had a whole wing dedicated to crops and field wor--”
“Settle down there, friend. We got the picture.” Jason interrupts, chuckling some. He grins, remarking, “Well thank God… we’ve got a college man here. Ain’t we lucky.”
Frankie shows a more toothy smile, “And a chatterbox to match. Keep him close, Jason - with any luck, maybe you’ll come out of this with more an actual brain than you were given.”
“Shut up.” Jason says softly, smiling.
Charlie chuckles a bit as well. “Oh please. I was just excited to learn something that connected with this place and all. It’s always been a fascination.”
“Well now you’re living it.” Jason comments, taking the knives and patch before walking away. Charlie takes it in, smiling ever more before he excitedly follows after.
Jason gives a wave towards Duke as he walks, saying aloud. “We’ll be heading out! I think we might have something on this.”
“Alright! Now you two best be careful out there!” Duke calls out. “No telling what that gang will do once they find out about this.”
“Won’t be much trouble. You got something to defend yourself with, right?”
Duke nods, reaching over to the bar and grabbing from behind it: the shotgun from last night, now cleaned up of any blood or grime it once had. Jason turned back for a moment to see it, surprised to see it again. He almost wanted to ask for it back, but knew it was better that someone like Duke ought to keep it just in case. With that, Jason waves and so to do Charlie and Frankie. The group exit out from the bar and walk around to the back where both Jason’s car and Frankie’s truck are parked.
Frankie’s truck was a large vehicle, with an armored front and a space back covered by a thick tarp. With 6 wheels and some modifications, the thing is able to shoot straight through the Black Road and onto Moresatta and back much faster than most cars. It was the perfect machine for Frankie, whose job was to taxi people across the whole desert. However right next to the truck were two luggages - Charlie’s luggages.
Charlie rushes over to collect them, all while Jason stops to talk with Frankie.
“Can’t come along, Frankie?”
Frankie is a bit more serious now, speaking with less of a smile. “Got the call from the company awhile back. They want me on the road A.S.A.P., no excuses. I asked to stay long enough to see you off, but that’s as long as I could go. You can take our friend’s luggage along, meanwhile I’ll be busy on the road for some time.”
“Sure you can’t come back any time?” Jason asks, a bit saddened.
“I can, but you’re going to have to call it in later - and on when I can come back, that’s a tad beyond me. I’m sure you can settle things on ya’ll own just fine though. Don’t knock yourself down too much Jason. You’ve faced off worse before this, and I know this won’t be much a challenge for you.”
“Thanks for coming along anyways, friend.” Jason holds his hand out, but Frankie instead goes in for another hug. He grips tight, giving a couple friendly pats to the back, before moving back to give Jason some air. All the while Jason smiles, happy to have had Frankie along for what time he could get.
Frankie walks to his truck, whistling a tune as he does so.
Turning to his car, Jason sees Charlie trying to carry his luggage over to the car. He takes a glance at the hood, seeing something before calling out, “Hey uh… is this blood I’m seeing?”
To which Jason shouts back, “Don’t mind it! Just… press the release on the underside, you won’t miss it.”
He almost starts to make way for the car, but is approached from behind by a soft cough and a familiar, feminine voice, “Mr. Frederick.”
Jason turns, seeing Samantha Collier - back with a wicker basket containing some wrapped goods: meats, bread, and bottles of water. She holds it over to Jason, giving him a gentle smile that develops a pleasant feeling inside of him. He takes a moment to register the kind act before slowly accepting it, all the while Samantha speaks to him with a soft tone of voice,
“Thought I’d leave you with a gift. A little something for the road.”
“Well that’s very nice of you, Ms. Collier.” Jason chuckled dumbly, before collecting his senses back and saying more politely, “Thank you for helping me. Still, much appreciated.”
“Don’t mention it.” She replies, “It’s not everyday you help save a hero.”
“Yeah…” Jason almost breaks his seriousness for a moment there, keeping his smile.
“Though I hope to someday meet your brother. From what I hear of those stories everyone talks about, he sounds like quite the exciting man. If you ever come across him, tell him that Samantha would like a meeting. If he’s up for it.”
She leaves with a bow, waving the men away as she turns towards the town. “Stay safe, and thank you for helping us here.”
Jason Cross stands there, hands held tight onto the basket - feeling his heart skip a bit, and a warmth building in his cheeks. He feels proud and happy for a moment, and for the first time in a long while, that he was Jason Cross.
Before long he joins Charlie in the car, and at that time Frankie had already driven off for the Black Road. He gently places the basket in the back seat before driving himself to the Road as well, and away from the town of Blondie.
Jason leaves the town, feeling much happier than when he came in.

Tu
Remember when I told you how my dad is dead. Well, he had a life insurance policy. And since my mom is in prison it goes to me.
Jenaveve
Oh!! Why is this?
Tu
My dad caught my mom cheating on him with this dude name Trom and when my dad starting attacking Trom my mom shot him. They didn't have a good marriage I don't know why they were even together, to be honest. I then went to live with my aunt and her family in upstate NY but I didn't like it there so I emancipated myself shortly after so I wouldn't get stuck in some foster home back here.
Jenaveve
in awe
WOW!!!! That's sad. So, have you ever been in jail?
Tu
I have. I was released from Jamesburg just about a year ago, just before I turned 19. I did 14 months there and then went back for 9 more on a parole violation.

TROM
Laughs
Yo, that's some true shit bro. I don't know how you made it out that way. Well, it was only Juvy, not real prison, but I guess that's your mom's DNA in you.
Pause
TROM
