Unicorn Overlord is fantastic. I have not been able to put this game down. It's simply peak. This is literally what I needed to scratch that rpg itch. I'm not even halfway done with this game, and it's already a strong contender for my game of the year.

Noble Dress in The Tri-Kingdom

Vestur’s three kingships were distinct cultures before the Founding Wars.

They retain many of their cultural features. It’s easy to tell which Kingdom a lord, lady, or viscount is from at a glance.

Middle Kingdom

The Middle Kingdom seeks to emulate gentility and grace of the unicorn (one of the crest animals of their royal family). “Noble” colors like pastels are common, and gold is essentially a requirement. Vestur values battle culturally, but years of safety and excess means military influence has been essentially sanded off of attire, save like... ornamental epaulets.

Modesty is a must - having any skin showing below the neck is VULGAR and CRASS. Ideally your scarf or cravat should cover that, too.

Tasteful gold jewelry is appreciated. Hair is kept long - usually dreads or braids.

Wear for men means stockings and highly embroidered frock coats. Heel-length dresses for women and highly ornamental sleeves! Other accessories like a capelet or jacket are also encouraged.

Northern Kingdom

There is a limit to how impractical dress can be in the North, and so this makes Northern nobility look quite out of place compared to the high fashion of the Middle and South.

Few dyes in the unforgiving and icy Wasteland means ornamentation is strictly through feathers or embroidery. If you can manage color, it’s saved for an especially flashy accessory - like a cape or hat. Jewelry is minimal since it is cold against the skin. Hair is kept short, usually - though women may wear it longer if they like a Middle Kingdom flair.

Formerly a nomadic culture right up until annexation, dress is much less gender-segregated because Northerners didn’t historically have different clothing for men and women. However, Middle Kingdom influence means difference has been injected in. Women wear pant-skirts as a compromise... though if nobody from another Kingdom is looking, they’ll just wear a pair of breeches.

There are less nobles from the North over all simply because there is less workable land to lord over and maintain, so many end up in the King’s Army. This has lent a heavy military styling to their dress.

Cultural holdovers from their nomadic roots include: spurred riding boots, the ornamental feathers, largely black color scheme, and the use of hats. However, anything resembling their heritage is seen as gauche by the middle kingdom... so you see less fur and wide-brimmed hats than their commoner counterparts.

Southern Kingdom

The Southern Kingdom is rather unique, as in addition to having a defined territory, it maintains many other trading enclaves throughout Vestur’s peninsula. (Dress would look very different for a Southern enclave within the Northern Kingdom for example, but I won’t get too in the weeds there.)

The Southern Kingdom is a culture deeply invested in trade and mercantilism, and so are essentially teeming with exotic textiles, dyes, precious metals and rocks... you name it.

As a result they have the most elaborate dress. Capes, sashes, loose-hanging and billowing cloth of all colors is the pinnacle of beauty. The more colors, the better - you had just best make sure they are coordinated.

Ideally too, you should wear enough jewelry to jingle when you walk. Especially if made of gold or especially rare gemstones.

The coastal South has held onto more of their unique dress sense than any of their enclave territories, or the North. They don't feel as much need to pander to the Middle Kingdom sensibilities because they were already a thriving country before teaming up with the Middle Kingdom. Joining with the Middle Kingdom was seen as a union of equals by the South, rather than a conquering by a superior political power like what happened with the North.

The hot weather of their territory means they show much more skin than the other kingdoms... in fact, the advent of breeches and shifts is relatively new, and only because the Middle Kingdom was so scandalized by their pantslessness and bare chests.

Development Update - February 2024

Hi folks, Miyazaki checking in with our development update for the month of February 2024.

It was a tough month for the team: one of us moved, one of us had surgery, and three of us were laid out sick for a while. Everyone's stable and on the mend, though, and with some recovery under our belts we're looking forward to picking up the pace in March!

In spite of everything we've still got some new content to cover. Let's hop in!

Astrological Calendar

The Mythauran calendar is divided into twelve months of roughly equal length. The earliest Beast species--Dragons, Unicorns, and Griffins--have each left their cultural markers on the Mythauran calendar.

Dragons, being the first species to develop a written language (and one that's rather flowery and verbose), were the first to give names to each of the months of the year. These names were meant to conjure images, feelings, and sensations associated with the different times of the year.

Unicorn culture, being nomadic for a significant part of the year as they chase the path of storms on the Southern Plains, used the position of constellations in the sky to guide their paths. These were named after significant cultural figures both fictional and real, who featured prominently in their rich verbal storytelling tradition.

Griffins were the first to master the craft of creating palm stones, which have been used for centuries to manipulate a Beast's secondary Element prior to birth. The Element associated with each stone came from Griffin astronomers, who picked a stone that best symbolized the constellation that spent the most time over their capital city for the month.

March

The month of March is referred to as Chasm's Roar in Dragon culture, representing the peals of thunder ringing through the canyons in the Spine of Ere. This month is also associated with the constellation of the Tempest and the labradorite stone.

Mythauran astrologers say those born under the sign of the Tempest are strong-willed, decisive individuals who believe strongly in their own moral code. Their well-defined sense of self makes them capable leaders, whose confidence inspires those who look to them for guidance.

At their best, Tempests are inspiring, self-assured, and magnanimous. At their worst, they can be belligerent, intolerant of others' beliefs, and arrogant.

Mythaura v0.x

While there are no new feature releases this month, Koa and Sark have been hard at work on the player menu, specifically the party screen and the way a player's Beasts are housed. There's also been a lot of work put toward a prototype of the interactive world map--and that's for both the world overall and the starter town of Talon's Rest that players will find themselves in when the game launches!

Finally making an OC info post- by no means is this all of them, just ones that are most active and/or live in my head rent free.

First up- Rhys (DnD 5e - Rime of the Frostmaiden)

20 years Old, Half Orc, Half Elf (sweet baby angel) , He/Him

Fighter- Echo Knight

Absolute Ray of Sunshine; Rhys is from Icewind Dale; more specifically the Nomadic Reghed Tribe of the Elk.

He's unfamiliar with the outside world and even includes settlements in his own country

He's a Himbo basically a big dog.

This campaign lead him to leaving his tribe for the first time after an unfortunate accident which turned him into a small 'painted child' and searching for his missing sister. (both these are sorted now!)

*Rhys found an old oil painting of this child, blacked out and next thing he knew he was that small elf child. Her skin and clothing having the texture of painted canvas, and bleeds paint.

For a good chunk of the campaign he was just a totally normal elf- whose shadow didn't match with the body

My Road Trip (platonic) with Jesus

Just some pics of when I showed @one-coming-is-enough all the kingdoms of the world. And no, before anybody asks, that is not a euphemism.

Yeah, sure, we cuddled a bit--

--but that was just to keep Jesus from freezing to death! I'd do the same for Job's kids (even @ennonymous-twink, though that would mostly be to keep him from trying to cuddle with @mrazfellco).

And yeah, I did show him some pornography,

but the kid (human-god) had to learn about the birds and bees sometime, didn't he? He was already 33 years old for Satan's sake! Wouldn't want him to get to 3000 without learning how babies are made--not that I'm speaking from personal experience or anything.

See? That's not even me. That's Crowley (whoever he is) and from what Aziraphale says they had a pretty awkward conversation on the Ark about why unicorns were about to go extinct. So glad Aziraphale doesn't waste his time hanging out with that idiot anymore.

But Jesus, honestly, if you had such a great time on our road trip,

why'd you go back? You knew what was gonna happen.

You didn't have to die like that. You had your whole life ahead of you and you just threw it away. Out of--I dunno, some self-sacrificial stupid sense of duty, or blind loyalty to a God who didn't care enough about you not to set you up to be killed in one of the more creatively brutal ways humans have come up with to kill each other.

And sure, you came back, rose from the grave, escaped your tomb, ascended to Heaven, whatever. But none of that would even have been necessary if you hadn't been executed in the first place!

You could've king of the world. Or you could've just been an anonymous nomad. Point is, it would've been your choice. Not some pre-determined destiny chosen for you before you were even born.

We could've kept on travelling together (platonic) There was so much more I wanted to show you (platonic)

...sorry. That was a lot, wasn't it? It just gets to me. What She puts people through, you know? And when people choose Her instead of their own freedom and happiness. Looking at you @supremearchangelaziraphale

ok after making my last post i realized i needed to draw albatrio as fantasy creatures from my og world (that i first made at like 10 or 11) athzurea, like. immediately. so

i’m gonna explain the species too. ok so

gillion is an oceanic alluraean cat, which is a non-flying semiaquatic feline about the size of a big house cat. oceanic alluraean cats cannot breathe underwater, but can hold their breath for hours at a time and spend most of their time fully beneath the surface, though they do have settlements both above and below the ocean. they are also one of the most private sentient species, rarely interacting with those outside their own societies, but not nearly as secluded socially as dragons or unicorns, though. (story-wise i think he also could have made for a pretty good unicorn but i wouldn’t have been able to keep him looking so… like him. y’know?)

jay is a mountain gryphon, one of the larger intelligent creatures, about lion-sized, though their size does vary amongst individuals, as gryphons are some of the most visually diverse of the athzurean people. they are also the most widely spread across the world, usually taking on the role of the upper class in most cities and other large settlements. their tendency to gravitate towards power is the source of the majority of conflicts in athzurea.

and chip is an ashwolf, which are between the size of a large dog and a wolf, and not pictured is their clawed wings. they are relatively unsocial people, sticking to the outskirts of settlements and being primarily nomadic in nature. they don’t tend to make a lot of friends, but they have very loyal family groups and were the first group of people to domesticate the now-popular pet, the puppy spider. and culturally, they are very drawn to fire, ritually running through forest fires as a sign of being a mature adult, and staining and marking their bodies with ash and charcoal. cosmetic burn scars are also popular.

Developing some backstory for the Moose man, combining his backstory with my unicorn princess centaur! I’m thinking that he was unicorn centers main bodyguard. He might have owed her father a favor, or done some great deed, that Warrenton getting at such a position, considering his extremely humble beginnings as a hermit like nomad barbarian. Also, there a relationship is purely platonic. She is very much like a kid cousin to him, and she views him as the fun uncle, who actually pays attention to what she wants and or likes! Something happened to make him leave that position, don’t know if it was voluntary yet? Still hashing out all the details for both of these babies !
