Love the Shuri and Namor drawing! I was meant to see Strange World yesterday, but the sound wasn't working, so I ended up watching Black Panther and I really liked it! When Shuri spares Namor's life, I said "I would have just killed the bastard." 😂

I can see where Namor is coming from and why he wants to take over everything, but I dunno, I still would have killed him considering how much he took from Shuri. One of the funniest parts for me was at the end when Okoye is breaking Martin Freeman out of the van - a coloniser in chains, now I've seen everything.

honestly that movie was the only "vengeance is bad don't kill them" that worked because their nations was on the line, i don't think she would even bother to tolerate him for a long while though poor girl deserves a break. and that okoye scene was one of the funniest things in the movie lmao i love her

Ok so imagine for a moment that you work at a place that's pretty far away, so in order to get to it you need your car (we'll say for the sake of comparison that things like ubers, lyfts, buses and other forms of metro aren't available).

You *need* this car to get to and from work, it is integral for the continued stability of your job. But one day your car has to be sent to a mechanic. The mechanic fixes it, however he tells you that he won't give you the car back unless you have sex with him on a regular basis, with your livelihood basically being on the line if you refuse him sex. So you are forced to continuously sleep with him in order to continue your work and not lose your job, with him actively getting upset if you ever refuse. You try to tell people about it but it's treated as a joke.

Ok now imagine if the mechanic suddenly started catching feelings for you, feelings which you did not feel the same

Sorry if I'm spouting stuff unwanted in your ask box. But I had a deep brain thinky moment and I thought "at least with reader inserts we admit we're inserting ourselves into the story". A lot of "shippers" seem to ship because they've projected onto a certain character, and they themselves want to be with another character (who often gets watered down to a very attractive slab of meat with little to no will and/or personality of their own). So of course, prime example is Jon with his choose your own poison girlboss, but I've seen it in some other areas. Of course there are some genuine attempts at investigating chemistry between characters out there, but it's often the most viciously toxic ships/shipping communities that I notice this sort of self insertion. Of course I could be assuming things and/or judgemental but it's just a theory I built up after years of observing.

No, you are right on the money. (Rest under a read more because gods be good have my opinions on shipping and shippers in fandom gotten me some anon hate before)

It's why certain shippers tend to be very aggressive in their defences, because they have seen so much of themselves in a character they feel like you are judging them for a real relationship they are in. Refusing to see character flaws as a fundemantal aspect of who that person is, beacuse they don't want to relate to someone like that, so they invent a vision of this person that they have to defend beacuse they won't admit they related to a bad person.

It's a slippery slope to project so heavily onto a character in a ship you like. Beacuse you end up refusing to see them as dynamic people who are more complicated then their relationship and that relationship ends updefining them as a character. Example, I ship Brienne and Jaime but I also don't look at either of them as someone I relate to on a personal level. I'm also fascinated with both of their separate stories and greatly and think those separate journeys are what makes their intertwining moments so intriguing. But if I were projecting myself onto Brienne, then I would end up acting as if she was always perfect and her entire story revolves around a starry eyed Jaime who only lives for that relationship now.

Jon has such a bad treatment by his shippers, beacuse so often he winds up being that slab of meat for the other party. I know some people have joked "well about time its a mans turn" but the point is no one should be given the arm candy treatment by fans. Man or woman. Jon is such a footnote in Jonerys dialouge beacuse ultimetly he serves her at her beck and call with little agency. Because Dany is the one they see themselves as and thus molding Jon into their perfect partner means serving the worst aspects of a girlboss character, meaning stripping the complex agency of their romantic male interests. Same with Ygritte, people see her aggresiveness and sass and think oh my god shes me, and totally ignore the actual text on the page/proof on screen that Jon's time with her isn't happy or romantic. But they want to see themeslves in Ygritte's spitfire personality so badly that they refuse to see Jon as anything but a willing puppet for her enjoyment, beacuse they want the advantage of being her and having him.

Honestly most Jon ships have this problem, and it's partially why I don't ship him with anyone, and i actually ship very few characters with anyone. My time in the Pedro fandom I was infamous for disliking popular ships and a lot of it then too was seeing people projecting onto the female to a point where their interpretation of the character was just not what was on screen.

Casually shipping is fine, again I love a good analysis post about Jaime and Brienne, but like you said. At least with reader inserts, I'm telling you it's you. I'm telling you it's me. You know the reader acts that way beacuse it's who they are and it's not forcing them to be something their not just to force that character to be relatable to you in particular.

Jonsa, Jonerys, Jonrya and Jongritte suffer from this problem greatly, and during my time in the pedro fandom Mando and Omera, and Joel and Tess also were major sufferers of this problem. The male becomes meat for the superior female character beacuse you want it to be you and it being you forces you to turn this person into someone they aren't and this it strips the other party of their agency.

The males now only exist to be relatable arm candy, as opposed to reader inserts which do the work to find a way to make the reader fit into the existing world around them organically.

At least I'm being honest. I write Jon Snow x Reader fics cus I want to fuck Jon Snow, I'm not pretending like I just really like Dany and thats why I ship it. No, they're a terrible couple, but at least I'm honest about my self shipping. I don't have to lie about my intentions.

There's so much negativity around Izzy's death so I wanted to address some of the points I keep seeing thrown around.

"Izzy's death was pointless"

No, he just had his big speech about how basically they can kill him but they cannot kill the movement. That is a clear paraller to a lot of real life protestors of unjustice. He died protecting the community, he died so the community could go on.

"Izzy's death made his healing pointless"

No it didn't. Healing is always good, feeling happiness and belonging are ALWAYS worth it. We never know how long we've got, doesn't mean we gotta stop trying to be better or happier. His healing was still real. It still mattered.

"Izzy's character arc was left unfinished, it's bad writing"

Oh my god. If you open any writing guide about how to write impactful deaths, and the first thing that comes up is to leave some part of their arc unfinished. And his arc did go through quite a beautiful line, sure there could've been more but his story didn't end like, mid arc. As a writer, of course you want to make the audience sad when a character dies. It's good storytelling. Good stories are supposed to make us feel.

"Izzy died on the arms of his abuser"

Where the hell did this idea come from? Ed and Izzy have been in a toxic codependent relationship way before this show started. You could argue that Izzy was Ed's abuser, but that is not the argument I want to make here. Yes, we saw Ed driven to madness shoot Izzy on screen, but we know Izzy's the one that forced him to be Blackbeart when he didn't want it anymore. There's turmoil all around them. But the final moment is them finally meeting as people, not as components of Blackbeard.

"Izzy's death was unnecessarily awful"

His death was sad, yes, but it was quite beautiful as far as deaths go. He was surrounded by family who cared for him. He was loved, and accepted as he is. He knew his legacy will be carried on.

"They killed off the only character that showed us healing is never too late"

Did we watch the same show? That begins with then unhappy 40+ year old Stede deciding it's finally time to reach for his dreams? Where we see Blackbeard slowly gaining back his humanity? Where Black Pete starts off as toxically masculine dude but ends up in a soft gay marriage? Where most of the crew wanted to mutiny but then they realized being soft is good, actually. Jim's whole purpose in life being revenge but them learning to let that go and instead concentrate on love and fun and family. And so on. Izzy's arc is beautiful, but he's not the only person healing who thought it was too late already.

"Izzy's death was bury your gays trope"

No, what, no. In a pirate show where everyobody is queer some queer people will die. Bury your gays is about only having one or few queer characters and killing them off while the straights get their happily ever afters. This is so far from that.

Also, I want people to be aware of the phenomenon, where creators of diverse shows are subjected to more critism than those of non diverse shows. If this intrests you, Sarah Z on Youtube made a great video on it called Double standards and diverse media. Our flag means death has given us so much, queer love story with a happily ever after, finding community, nonbinary character. And the creators have always been so kind to fans, so let's show them tht kindness back. Because critizicing this one aspect can easily turn to seeming like the whole story is just unwanted. That stories like Ed and Stede's aren't worth telling. And I'm so aftraid that will happen, when just now for the first time in years we are finally getting queer stories.

Also, I understand people are sad. I am sad too - Izzy was an amazing character and his death was sad but that's just. Good writing. You can grieve, but trying to turn it into a moral or dramaturgy issue is just not a good look. And attacking the creators of this wonderful show is just horrible.

- I personally can't judge others for liking or disliking a ship. All of the characters are morally grey in some way, shape, and/or form. - I am not a proshipper at all. I do not like ships that are illegal in an way. Same with borderline abusive AND problematic ships. They romanticise the problem and can cause harm in real life at times. So Sodapack is a good ship. I love the concept of it. Its excellent, chefs kiss. Though Fanon has defintely made an impact on said ship. People tend to forget/mischaracterize/etc each Bryce and Liam.

If Bryce and Liam are together immediately after the events on HFJOne, its toxic. Its a trauma bond.

Liam, whether he does it on purpose or not, is gaslighting, critizizing, and breaking Bryce's set boundries. Bryce's fickle nature causes him to resign his boundries that he sets in the show.

Bryce and Liam need to learn to heal on their own before getting into something like a romantic relationship. Both have suffered and getting into something like that is just asking for unintentional hurt to happen.

So why do I consder it a good ship if all these flaws exist?

It's because people can change and heal. Its just human nature. Both Bryce and and Liam have hurt eachother. One more than the other *cough-Liam-cough*.

Its going to take time to forgive, yes. Hell, you can't just forget what happened either. I know from experience.

However!! If these two were to heal properly? I can see the ship being extremely cute. A friends to lovers type of thing.

Conclusion/TLDR;

tldr; Sodapack is good,. HOWEVER, people need realize that trauma bonds exist and are extremely harmful. Both Liam and Bryce need time to heal from what happened. They have the potiential to be a really cute pair if this occurs.

#Stop Discriminating Against Snake-People

Okay... okay.

This is my biggest complaint.

Look I get it that the serpentine are the "bad guys" in this season, but... EXCUSSE ME?!?!!?!?

The only snake that deserves to be punished is Pythor. Actually...no. Even he deserves a break.

No one deserves to be locked up underground. Did you see the cave he was stuck under? It was full of skeletons. And Pythor was the oly one alive....

that has a lot of implications. The guy had to probably eat his fellow snakes in order to survive... the snakes were treated horribly.

Now I dont remember exactly why they were forced underground but if my memory serves me right... was it bc of some war?

But like... I bet there were so many innocent snakes as well, right?

i don't like the implication that ada is only good because of leon. i feel like she is more developed than that. i want to think this character who has been mistreated by their own company is more than that.

ada sometimes is a manipulator for her own benefit, and that's fine by me. she isn't allowed to be only one way or another, BUT i know she is kind. in my other posts, i often try to humanize ada.

i think ada and leon are toxic but not in the way you think. i think they are both flawed characters, and BOTH are in fault. the writing of resident evil made it seem like it, but guess what? if you like it, good for you.

I feel like annabeth and zoya haters are the same type of people. Like they cant understand that these girls have emotions and trauma and are not just this bitchy person that they make them out to be.

i think Zoya has way more haters than Annabeth (well book Annabeth, sadly i have the feeling a lot of people will look for reasons to hate her because i have no faith in humanity)

I am not on the mind of every single person so what i am about to say its just a theory bassed on observation: they hate annabeth because they want to

If Annabeth had a diferent personality they´ll still hate her,but Annabeth with the exact same personality BUT she is a cis man? they´d love her!

People just pick up Annabeth´s less pleasant traits as an excuse to hate on her, they don't really bother them, what they bother them its that Annabeth its on their way to ship Percy with someone else. AND before someone dares to bring Rachel´s name up , its not her , its mostly Percico, Jercy or Percy x Luke (the NERVE to critize Annabeth while stanning Luke is beyond me) , if she wasn't paired up with Percy people wouldn't mind. Thalia is way more hostile than Annabeth and she gets none of this critism. I am completely sure the Annabeth hate is shipping bassed. If you ask me, if there is one character that does get hate for being "bitchy" its probably Reyna.

Zoya on the other hand is a case not helped because by the first two books, and the third one a little bit, hating her was encouraged; Alina hated Zoya until the last chapter and slutshamed her now and then , also she was put in a shitty love triangle where it clearly should not have been with her. That said she had good moments in the second book and she is a good character on the third one.

Zoya in the duology on the other hand does falls into the same cathegory as Annabeth as "being hated for the shipping" people who can't use her as a self insert (to the point of trying to make Nikolai x Nina a thing) just elevating her less pleasant traits despite Nikolai himself being hardly better. By that point Zoya had become a rounded character with her backstory explained but people still hate her because she dared to be Nikolai´s love interest instead of Alina (who was already married) , the hate somehow also spread and got to Hanne and Leoni (yes, Leoni) . If they hated Zoya for her personality, they´ll hate Nikolai himself, Kaz , Ma-(no wait, all zoya haters do hate Mal) and maybe even Alina considering she is not exactly a polite person

So its not that people don't understand, is that people want to hate them because they will never be enought for their uwu boys.

In Nikolai´s case is "i want to ship myself with him but i can't and i don't relate to Zoya" and with Percy they don't even want a girl on the ship, the only one that may serve as a self insert may be Calipso.

I must admit I am so confused about this discourse overall, but I think I understood both sides, I think. The Bear is quite recent, TVD not so much. The Bear just started, there's YET to see what's in stock and I am SO excited to share my thoughts here and see y'all thoughts as well. TVD has been a thing - it has books- it is a fantasy world - it is built with the idea that anything can happen and creature of the night. The Bear is about finedining world - Carmy, Syd, his family, the Bear family,etc. Bonnie was the only black female AT ALL(everyone else were getting offed). Syd is the only black female, we actively see. So, the comment about hating Marcus doesn't work, because there are other black people in the show. Not in TVD. When I saw Carmy yell at Syd about her mistake, it brought me back to TVD's where Bonnie wasn't allowed to make mistakes. Because being yelled at as a black person and mostly as a black woman with the ANGRY black woman stereotype in the air- is different if let's say if Elena was yelled at or humor me- Claire would have been yelled at. I knew when Carmy asked her ''Chef we good'' that sis was in fact NOT GOOD. In the real world, it happens. You do not want to be the angry black woman who yells back. Like, an example that comes to mind it's like comments critizing Syd about her mistake with the ticket machine ( which post that follows will be about this). Sydcarmy is so good because it is so close to friends to lovers. Bamon is literally so hot because it's enemy to lovers. More like enemies -friends then lovers. We have convo about the ship being canon so much, I just cannot grasp that there would be a convo about another ship were shippers were gaslit, called slurs and what not. That wouldn't some Sydcarmies go- damn, it has happened already, let's not like reproduce that. Let's not foster that here because it has already started like most Bear fans on Reddits are racists. Idk if some of you get my point. Sydney has the opportunity to have depth because it is given to her. To the point where Ayo even has the opportunity to direct some episodes. (mad excitinnnnng!) Bonnie is a witch, from a powerful coven. She was used a plot device to kill and torture. A literal pocket witch. The equivalent of a human lighter. When the actress who worked and is a singer-dancer and literal artist asked to sing in the show she was refused. Both white actors could, only one of them was a singer - he hadn't even in the show for 5 years and the actress wasn't a singer (correct me if wrong).

Fantasy can be changed, like racism..didn't have to exist in the show or to be a thing, right. Julie Plec made it a thing, she was avoidant of literally talking about slaves, which Bonnie's witch ancestors were.It would have been a wonderful opportunity to explore the depth of things such as voodo or hoodo in that case-. Like Bonnie Bennett, was robbed of true potential.

I don't want that to happen, knowing that racism IS a real thing, the Bear IS in a form of real world ( despite me loving all the time-space talk of @unladyboss) and AYO is a real person so is KAT. I like to share my thoughts here and I like to hear from you guys as well, I refuse to think that some of you will keep it surface level because it is the same thing we reproach other platforms and use to explain why we ran here.

I think Eddie stand ruined the fandom because they were literally EVERYWHERE last year and still around even now. They do a lot of cringe shut and attack others for not liking Eddie/Not shipping St*ddie.

They ruined most of the fandoms reputation (I don't really give a shit about that but they still did)
