Little headcanon/tidbit time :D it takes a while for him to be comfortable doing so, but whenever sanji gets nightmares now he shuffles over to zoros bunk and climbs in. He tries not to wake Zoro but always fails, zoro just nuzzles his face in Sanjis hair and holds him close until he stops trembling <3 zoro is reluctant to seek the same sort of comfort for his own nightmares no matter how desperately he wants it, until one night hes so tired he just gives up and crawls under the blankets next to the cook, from then on it's a regular occurrence

zoro is used to waking up with someone crawling into his bed; a very specific blond, gangly someone with terrifyingly sharp elbows and ginger hands, trying to fit the both of them in a bunk not made for two. he is used to waking up to sanji’s shaking shoulders. he is used to pulling the cook to his chest, whispering sweet nothings into his hair, running a soothing palm up and down his spine until he’s calmed down from whatever had come for him when he’d closed his eyes. he is used to draping an arm around sanji’s waist and drifting off as the cook wraps lithe arms across his back and tosses a leg over his hip, a cold nose shoved into the crook of his neck, figuring out how their bodies fit together as if they don’t already know.

in the beginning, zoro hadn’t understood why sanji had chosen him of all people; now he’s just grateful for the privilege. he enjoys providing that sense of safety. he likes being the protector, the one who can pick up the slack when his nakama are tired, and sanji is much, much more than just nakama to him.

but right now his blood is thrumming electric with adrenaline and he can feel every single beat of his heart through his entire body, too fast and too hard and too loud in his ears. every time this happens he talks himself down, wraps his forearms low over his gut and curls up, breathes through it until it no longer feels like he’s about to shatter out of his skin. he’s supposed to be the strong one. the safe haven.

but he’s tired. he’s so, so tired, and sanji is just two bunks away, and zoro wants. he wants, desperately, and maybe he’s so tired that he just doesn’t care anymore—

because he gets up quietly, his fingertips numb, avoiding the creaky plank that he knows is there as he creeps over to sanji’s bed and sits at the edge of the mattress. his boyfriend is sound asleep, face smooth and devoid of worry. he should go back; there really is no reason to—

“m’rimo?” sanji squints up at him, raising a hand to scrub over his face, and zoro goes still like it would make him invisible. it doesn’t work, of course, and the cook seems to understand immediately, tugging the blanket out from under zoro’s weight and lifting the corner. “c’mere.”

and who is zoro not to listen? he crawls beneath the blanket, squeezing himself small so that they can both fit. he isn't the lightest; he doubts sanji would be comfortable with zoro laying on top of him, but the cook puts a stop to that by pressing a hand to the back of zoro's neck and pulling him down. “i said come here," sanji grumbles, wiggling until zoro is settled on his chest. “nightmare?”

“mm,” zoro mumbles, already a bit too gone to deny it. he's warm, he's safe, sanji's slender fingers are carding through his hair, scratching lightly at his scalp and it might just be the best thing in the world right now. the exhaustion slams into him like a battering ram and punches the buzzing, frantic dance straight out from under his skin; he lets himself capsize, sinking down, down, down into the darkness, but he is present enough to feel it when sanji presses a soft kiss to his forehead.

he slides his hands up, palms spread on either side of sanji’s ribs; laying like this zoro can hear every beat of his heart, feel it against his temple and cheekbone, feel the rise and fall of his lover’s lungs, soothing as the rocking of the sea. “go to sleep,” sanji breathes, quiet; the words are pressed into his hair and they wrap him in a gossamer veil of comfort, fragile in the velvet darkness of the quarters they share.

he lets his eyes slip shut and feels the last of the tension drain out of him from the way sanji kneads gently at his nape, knees coming up to bracket zoro’s waist. the cook’s sleep shirt is soft beneath his cheek; one of zoro’s old ones, he suddenly remembers, that he’d worn faded and threadbare and had found mysteriously missing from his closet. sanji smells good, like clean things and warmth and the faint milky-sweet scent of his soap on his skin, and zoro nuzzles into his chest as familiar hands tuck under his arms to press grounding between his shoulder blades.

he falls asleep. sanji’s heartbeat is the only thing he knows.

It too a while for the crew to get used to Zoro just… head butting them. Not even just in his Tiger form, his human form as well. He would randomly walk up to someone, and aggressively shoulder or nudge someone with his head (as cats are prone to do). It was quite startling the first time it happened, and Nami was the first. Let’s just say, if everyone wasn’t already awake, they sure as hell would be with Nami’s scream.

Once Chopper got used to being arOUND A PREDATOR, the two quickly bonded over their shared experiences of social isolation due to their species. It got to the point where their bond was so close, it could be equated to a father/son relationship.

He does actually communicate a lot. Just in sounds. At a pitch humans can’t hear. It’s one of the few things he’s oblivious to; Zoro just assumes everyone hears and doesn’t care.

Zoro’s social perception? Outstanding. He can analyse a situation down to the tiniest detail, and reads the room by like a boss. His bedside manner, though, could do with some work. He is so blunt, it’s physically painful to experience.

They had to install a dust bath for him, and they realised it got the blood off of both his and Choppers fur far easier than a bath would.

For reasons that should be obvious, they then had to install an air shower.

Zoro loves eyeshadow, and is surprisingly good with makeup. Robin and Nami often let him do them up if they have to go anything important

He and Sanji have become the ships stylists. Maybe this is because no one wants to say no to the massive green tiger and his boyfriend, although they are admittedly good

Zoro (in Tiger form) can’t get through quite a lot of doorways, as he is BLOODY MASSIVE. 6ft at the shoulder, he isn’t exactly small

Perona’s shovel talk for the crew (“if any of you dare hurt my baby brother, I will [redacted]”) when Zoro joined was… quite the spectacle. Mihawk almost laughed, while Usopp almost wet himself.

Mihawk adopted both Zoro and Perona, as they are both Tiger shifters like him. He didn’t want them going through what he did (Zoro was adopted shortly after Kuina’s death).

Mihawk can shift into a melanistic tiger with an almost lion like mane, that is slightly smaller than Zoro. Perona can shift into a much smaller, hot pink tiger (with white stripes, for some reason). Although she is smaller than her brother and father, she is still much larger than a normal tiger. The three of them all have the same yellow eyes with the black rings (Mihawk just doesn’t bother hide it in his human form)

Zoro can and will tear things apart with his teeth, even in human form. It was… quite disconcerting when he ripped out someone’s throat in front of everyone for the first time

And even worse when he lost control of his instincts, and attempted to full on eat someone. It wasn’t technically cannibalism, but the crew was still quite uncomfortable being alone around him for a while after that

Desires affection. Do not give him affection. He will make you give it to him anyways.

Sanji can’t say no to this man. Not even for romantic reasons, Zoro just has very good puppy dog (kitty cat?) eyes

THAT IS SO CUTE. i know exactly what you mean, and nami probably thought he was picking a fight at first until he walked away and she was like ????$38;?;?//(353 and then he turns back like “…what 😐”  he’s not very tactile unless someone else initiates so this is def what he does to show affection 

I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT THIS zoro’s his father at this point. they probably communicate without words and it creeps the rest of the crew out a little but it’s their thing

on that note. he definitely communicates but it’s all subsonic; he probably growls something at sanji while they’re at a stakeout and the cook still moves to go forward and zoro has to scruff him by the collar like “what did i JUST say. i told you there was danger—” and sanji’s like “you didn’t say anything???” 

his compartmentalisation is bonkers good. he rarely forgets things, if ever, and he’s very very tactical; but yeah, he does not pull his punches. no tact whatsoever. if you look ugly he’s gonna tell you straight to your face and then send you off to sanji for help. 

THIS IS SO FUNNY BCS THEY WOULD ESSENTIALLY HAVE TO BUILD HIM A SANDPIT. IMAGINE “oh yeah we just had a sandpit built for our tiger on board”. the strawhats baffle people on a regular basis and enjoy it immensely.

the first time they used the dust bath they were quarantined there until franky finessed a vacuum into a makeshift air shower. sanji was Not about to get bathing sand in his expensive shoes. 

OH THE INCREASED AGILITY DEFINITELY PLAYS INTO THIS he has really steady hands and coupled with sanji letting zoro practice on him? the girls trust him implicitly. HE PROBABLY KNOWS HOW TO BRAID TOO BECAUSE PERONA MADE HIM LEARN

oh please sanji is a fashion diva. look at him. he knows how to dress all of them to emphasise their best features. he commissions formal attire for the whole crew. the strawhats will never be caught slacking or not slaying. AND SANJI CUTS THEIR HAIR TOO

oh my goodness what if for whatever reason his muscle mass didn’t translate? like at the beginning, he hadn’t shifted for so long that in tiger form his physique deteriorated and they all think he wouldn’t be able to fit through the doorway but it’s all just fur. after that sanji made it his personal mission to make sure zoro was hanging around in his shifted form more and also made sure to kept him fed AND NOW HE’S BULKED UP AND GETS STUCK ALL THE TIME but they really can’t be mad about it because it’s better than when he was borderline malnourished

usopp PLEAse just don’t yank on his tail and you’ll be FINE. mihawk was secretly so proud of perona you can’t tell me he wasn’t

ADOPTIVE DAD MIHAWK MAKES A REAPPEARANCE!! YES!! also,,, how common are we making tiger shifters,,, bcs what if they’re actually pretty rare and he finds these two cubs on their own and he’s like ok. i dont care you’re My kids now

they’re such a terrifying family. they’re all menaces. zoro and perona take after mihawk in their own ways but they’re all horrible i love them

it probably happened because luffy or sanji was in danger. he didn’t think, just lunged, and he knows the crew’s startled but at least they’re all okay so he doesn’t regret it

…now THIS one he regrets. kinda want to write a drabble for this bcs the angst potential is DELICIOUS. i haven’t angsted zoro nearly enough yet hehehehehehe 

he’s so touch-starved my GOD. he wants attention? ear scratches? belly rubs? he headbutts you with a VENGEANCE and almost bowls you over. thats how he makes sure to get your attention. he’s so silly 

OOOH THIS ONE he gives sanji the big eyes and the gentle headbutt and a quiet “mrrp” and sanji is GONE.

i was freaking out about this to @spiral-abuse a few days ago but i decided to post it because it’s something i’ve been thinking about so much

tw for emeto and just general stomach issues/illness

sanji, being the chef of the straw hats and having all his trauma with starvation, obviously hates when anyone goes hungry. this is canon, we all know this (if you’ve watched/read one piece anyways haha) so i think it would be actual hell if one of his crew mates got so sick they couldn’t keep anything down

for this i’ll use zoro because. i’ve been really autistic about him for years and i love him so much. i think this also works because given the nature of him and sanjis relationship, where neither are very open about how they care about each other, it would just be fun to write 🤷 ill also say that perhaps this is before chopper joined the crew, just to add more angst

zoro is strong, really strong!! i think at this point the only time the crew has seen him in a spot of genuine vulnerability was when he lost to mihawk, and even then he shook that off pretty quick. so when he’s so sick he can’t keep anything down, everyone is already in a panic.

no one has much medical experience, i assume that nami sanji and usopp would do the majority of taking care of him since he can’t really do it himself (luffy would… try… but i don’t think he would do much other than moral support haha)

everyone is nervous but sanji is FREAKED. everything he has tried to give zoro — water, broth, medicine, tea — has come back up within minutes. the crew tries anything to get his nausea down but nothing seems to work

nausea and hunger are in a death battle for zoro, because even if he wanted to eat it still wouldn’t stay down. with how miserable he feels and the fever wracking his brain, he breaks down in front of sanji finally, who can’t understand what he’s saying because all that zoro is saying is feverish mumblings about how miserable he is

sanji feels so shitty, definitely taking some blame and feeling horribly guilty. it’s so awkward because 1: when have he and zoro ever been vulnerable with each other and 2: when has zoro ever broken down like this??

might add more onto this later? just thinking about sick zoro and bumbling caretaker sanji hehehehe

So I believe in one comic it was implied that shachi had a crush on law, I imagine that at some point he was just like "ok I NEED to het over this. It's ridiculous! He only has eyes for Bepo!" And just trying his hardest to just move on and it just not working damnit!!!!!

So he comes to the conclusion, " I need to tell him and get rejected,but will hurt but I NEED it!". This imaginary situation is after the Yuri incident.

And thus after days of hyping himself up he finds it in him to get a moment alone with law. "Law listen I know what the answer is but I just need to say this, I....I have feelings for you and I need ..I NEED to..."

Tbh I can see something similar happening with a strawhat too, probably sanji if I had to guess, and later he and Shachi kinda form a 'we were rejected by our captain' club and help each other move on.

100% agree with lu*san and luffy's method of rejection is also matter of fact but with gentleness of a sledgehammer. i like sanji having a helpless crush, like he never managed to get along with zoro and zoro getting all of luffy's love on top of feeling inferior to zoro's strength, on top of not being luffy's first most important right hand man.....sanji would internalize all of that and drive himself crazy...he loves luffy and believes in him and being with luffy gives him strength to do anything cuz thats just THE LUFFY EFFECT - but you know..you know..insecure bitch :)))))) hehehehe looove love that you mentioned it im a big fan.

law is direct and its brutal but its the best way to do it, he cares about shachi a lot but he doesnt need to say it, trying to comfort him saying shit like "this wont change anything about our relationship" to comfort shachi is also not his style

I have a lot of ANGER, every time I think about writing I can't concentrate and make a serious, dramatic and suffering story

All I can think of is a thousand ways to torture the Vinsmokes and especially Judge for messing with my love

And then I just become obsessed and look like those teenagers who pretend to be psychopaths and love serial killers

I simply can't control the anger I feel at how much Sanji suffered in this arc

That's why I can't write a change to the cannon in this specific arc
