Osomatsusan older sibling headcanons!!!!!

In this the sibling is still in highschool, lol(I’m in high school, I want out I’m boutta go bonkers)

Osomatsu

This little shit, he tries so hard to be the respectable older brother. But you know damn well he’s a little scum bag

Gives really bad dating advice, like he knows what he’s talking about. You listen to him and you got yourself a one way ticket to a restraining order

Tries to help you with homework n shit but, he’s secretly illiterate and can’t do long division. He tries his best

If you ask him to do your homework though and you get a low grade, he’ll be so fucking offended. Probably go down to the school himself to complain

DONT THINK JUST BECAUSE YOUR A BABY HE WONT BE A DICK TO YOU

He makes fun of you so fucking hard, it won’t matter if you’re turning 18 in 2 days he’ll come up to you like “ew who left this ugly deformed baby here, get out you stupid little baby!!!”

He isn’t allowed to pick you up from anywhere, you had to walk in the rain cause he forgot you existed lol

This has happened more then once

He worked his ass off to repay you each time though, he’ll spend all the yen he earn to make you forgive him

Genuinely does care for you and if you bring someone home, he’ll pull the scary big brother act. Doesn’t matter your gender or your partners gender. He needs to show them who they’re gonna have to deal with >:((

Karamatsu

Karamatsu is SO FUCKING EMBARRASSING, YOU CANT GO ANYWHERE WITH HIM

Pray to god he never sees you hanging out with friends, he’ll unintentionally embarrass the hell out of you

You two locked eyes and you knew damn and well it was over for you

“Is that my dearest baby sibling? Oh and they have company! My dearest angel baby sibling may I accompany thee to make sure no one gives you any trouble”

“Karamatsu I’m fucking 17” “nonsense, I know you have trouble speaking up for yourself so allow me to! My darling baby sibling”

He just wants to make sure his dearest darling angel baby sweetest little sibling is okay and doesn’t get hurt

Actually very sweet, and just wants you to know you’re loved and cared for. He’s probably the best one to come to if you’re having problems

He probably will cry if you struggle with insecurities and self doubt, you’re so cool how fucking could you >:((

If you wanna explore your style him and Todomatsu are your guys. He’d probably love dolling you up in his flashy clothing

The rest of the brothers make fun of you, but the happiness in Karamatsu’s eyes seeing his baby sibling indulge in his wacky clothing sense makes it worth it

Cannot fathom you doing ANYTHING wrong, he could watch you smoke crack out of a pipe and he’s just like “lol, what cool magic tricks my dearest sibling does!”

Will fight tooth and nail for you, even if you’re in the wrong

Choromatsu

Mother hen!! Smothers you a lot to make sure you’re doing fine and you’re getting enough sleep, food, and water(I think he just likes the authority he gets over you)

If you’re a shut in he’ll take you on walks around the park and maybe buy you a little treat, to make sure you don’t shrivel away in the dark

Has beaten osomatsu and Karamatsu’s asses for doing your home work for you. Makes you do it yourself but guides you to the right answer

Probably pressures you into taking higher classes, joining clubs, and other things. Wants you to he successful and well rounded so you aren’t stuck like him and the other brothers

If you are also into idols he is ECSTATIC, if he wants to share his interests and hobbies with anyone it’s YOU

Actually loves listening to the music you enjoy, even if it’s death metal or rap. He’ll indulge in it to get closer to you.

You and him have lazy days where you watch magical girl shows like salior moon or madoka

Hassles you on your friends and what they’re like, doesn’t care for drama but likes to keep tabs on the types of crowds you’re in

If you get sick, it’s fucking over for you. Will not let you out of bed for a hurricane, will make you sleep in that bad and take all of the gross medicines that make you feel sicker than before

Ichimatsu

Doesn’t actually talk to you much, he loves you and all but just kinda tries and hides from you at home

He feels like a total fuck up, and hates the idea of you seeing him as a useless bag of garbage

Ichimatsu though does like watching you grow up, when he sees you out with friends he can’t help but tear up a little

Seeing you so happy with your friends makes him feel all warm and fuzzy, he just hope you’re being true to yourself unlike him

He totally goes to fuck it up though, 100% he spots you with your friends and decides ‘I’m gonna ruin this precious moment’ strolls up like “you kids ever heard of goatse?”

You have to SCREECH at him before he scares off your friends, he thinks it’s so fucking funny the way you try and claw at his face to give him to shut up

“You ever heard of this thing called un-bir-” “OMFG GO AWAY YOU CHRONICALLY ONLINE TROLL!!!!!”

Absolute bastard, he knows it pisses you off

Sometimes though, he’ll bring you a random cat and just kinda, hand it to you. You have to pet it, it’s the law, you have to listen to your big brother, he’ll call the fuckin, pet the cat, don’t make him call the police on you

He’s the reason why you cannot tell your brothers if you’re going on a date, he’ll find you, and when he does. You might as well have cancel the date and faked your own death and move to Russia

Scares the shit out of you and your partner, you and your partner are sitting at a cute cafe and he just sits right next to your partner and stares so intensely, unblinking

It doesn’t end until your partner leaves, mission success. Doesn’t even say goodbye just leaves

Jyushimatsu

Makes you play baseball with him, he’s the reason you can pitch a perfect throw

Wants to be around you constantly, and knows exactly how to make you smile and laugh, and abuses it horribly

He’s actually one of the sweetest brothers, he’ll try and help you with EVERYTHING, doesn’t matter if he’s any good

Would really want you to join a sport but if you end up being more into the arts he’s just as happy

He still thinks of you as a little baby so when you mention anything about highschool or normal teenage activities hes Just Like “BUT YOURE LIKE 3?!” “JYUSHI IM FUCKING 18”

Jyushimatsu had no perception of time, you’re 3 years old forever, sorry

Him and Choromatsu bring you out a lot, especially if you don’t go out he’ll drag you to do activities, and he gets creative

He’ll pick you up and go “ewwww, look at this stinky baby, let’s throw it back in the dumpster”

Jyushimatsu never lets you over work yourself, every time he sees you even remotely stressed he is ON IT, he’ll octopus wrestle you onto the floor for a nap, no escape

Jyushi also is probably the most ride or die person you will meet, if you told him you kicked a yakuza member in the balls and stole their money and contraband he’ll just nod and say “okay, let me go get my bat” and help you dismantle the entire crime district just so you don’t get hurt

But usually he’ll just drive you to target to go replace a vase you broke

Todomatsu

You’re his only sibling, he only has a younger sibling and he will die on that fact

Todomatsu will often take you out to drink coffee and take pictures, he loves spending time with you almost as much as Jyushimatsu and buys you tones of cute clothes

He loves playing dress up w/ you, especially if you’ll let him dress you up really girly

He’ll grab you and use you to pick up chicks too, playing the perfect big brother role. He acts so sweet but you know it’s a slimey little act

Todo constantly asks who your favorite brother is, kicking his legs up trying to look cute. God forbid you say anyone but him, he once refused to talk to you for a week cause you said someone else

“ WELL WHY DONT YOU GO ASK YOUR FAAAAV BROTHER THEN!!”

He is really cuddly though, you’re having a bad day and just wanna relax go to him. He’ll get you some snacks and put on a movie and you two will just sit under a blanket and talk shit about the other people at your high school

He also loooves the Highschool drama, he will sit you down and buy you coffee just for the chance to judge a bunch of children’s morality choices and also spend time with you. Friend drama? Class drama? Some kid almost died from alcohol poisoning in math class? He’s all ears

Todomatsu will also tell you about all of the shit he use to get into during his highschool year (he’s totally not lying or really did happen you have to believe him)

When it comes to dating he actually have some decent advice but also complains, how can you get bitches and he can’t?! It’s not fair he’s cuter than you!!

I finally saw the new Osomatsu-san cartoon and lol they did a parody of Ash and Pikachu. Fun fact is that in the 80s series Rica Matsumoto (Ash’s japanese VA) was the VA of Choromatsu, even through he wasn’t the one parodying pokémon in this new version.

Calming Detective Osomatsu (and it’s spin-offs)

Not including plain Detective and Thief costumes that have no relation to Calming Detective like the Phantom Thieves set from Hesokuri Wars, Pazzmatsu or Tabimatsu or the detective promo art from the Osomatsu Movie x Cafe collab.

Basically I just rewatched Calming Detective and I wanna compile how deep this rabbit hole goes. Sorry for another long post, like my youkai compilation post. But!!! Let’s get started shall we?

“Calming Detective Osomatsu” from Osomatsu-san S1E8

The original iteration, Iconic. Oso stans love Calming Detective Osomatsu. This skit parodies detective mystery novels, playing with it’s tropes.

Osomatsu - Calming Detective (dressed in the stereotypical 1800′s detective. This is important)

Karamatsu - Victim who owns the Mansion

Choromatsu - Head Inspector

Ichimatsu - Red Herring

Jyushimatsu - Forensics Team

Todomatsu - Assistant Inspector

Hijirisawa Shonosuke - Killer

Dayon, Dekapan, Hatabou, Chibita, Iyami - Secondary Victims

Since it’s a season 1 skit a lot of games used this au early on.

I’m only gonna show the Hesokuri Wars Banner but it was also used in Damematsu, Tabimatsu, Osomatsu Sanpo, Pazzmatsu (not documented), and Matsuno Family Dependents (Not documented). Shimamatsu also had this set, including a second altered outfit when you level the unit up.

Hesokuri Wars also featured the mansion itself called the Calming Mansion which has a short story.

“Jyushimatsu and a Bomb” from Osomatsu-san S1E17

This AU will later be expanded with “Jyushimatsu and a Bomb”, although dropping the mystery aspect and instead parodies a high-tension bomb diffusion. This skit would later be used in Hesokuri Wars, and this is the only game it’s appeared in so far.

Ichimatsu - Head Inspector (I assume since he’s in the same getup as Choromatsu)

Jyushimatsu - Bomb Squad

Todomatsu - Assistant Inspector (The only connection to Calming Detective Osomatsu)

Jyushimatsu and Ichimatsu get new roles for this skit and so far Karamatsu is the only one a role in the police force (other than the Pachinko Police, but that doesn’t count... right now) or a significant role in general. Well that changes in the next entry.

“The Return of Calming Detective Osomatsu” from DaVinci May 2016 issue

A story written by Otsuichi. A retelling of the original Calming Detective Osomatsu Skit, but rather than going all the way with the parody, it’s a bit more serious and there is more mystery involved without losing the charm of Calming Detective Osomatsu. More backstory is given to the denizens of the Mansion. You can read parts 1 & 2 here and parts 3 & 4 here, with a lovely translation by @intra-fiducia. The new roles given to the cast are: *SPOILERS, Please read the story first if you do not want to be spoiled. It’s a good story and very well written.*

Karamatsu - Flashy Gardener who becomes a victim

Totoko - Maid (who dreams of becoming an idol, on friendly terms with Karamatsu)

Chibita - Chef (only cooks oden, friendly terms with Karamatsu)

Iyami - Owns the Mansion

*SPOILERS FOR REAL* Ichimatsu - Real Owner of the mansion, locked away by Iyami underground

*END SPOILERS*

Dayon and Dekapan - Travelers headed north (yeah it’s a reference to that one skit)

All other sextuplets keep their original roles.

“Matsumoto Kiyoshi” Merchandise from their Osomatsu-san Collab

Last minute addition, I didn’t even realize that something was different. While almost everyone kept their original roles, Karamatsu and Ichimatsu were changed. Even the setting has changed, rather than your typical mansion the murder happens in a high-rise apartment. There is also a 20-second commercial featuring original animation.

Karamatsu - now an owner of a high-rise apartment, he still dies and writes a dying message

Ichimatsu - presumably still a red herring, he traded his Jason butcher outfit for an oni costume.

Jyushimatsu - still forensics team but his demeanor has changed back to his original jyushimatsu personality rather than serious forensics team.

“Detectives and Theives Poster” from the Osomatsu-san Character Book #3

Ok so remember when I said that you should remember that Osomatsu’s detective outfit is based on 1800′s detective fashion? Well turns out that Phantom Thieves (or Gentlemen Thieves/Kaito in Japan) and Detective stories like Arsene Lupin and Sherlock Holmes which take place around the same time period is super popular in Japan. Like Kaito Kid and Lupin III. Another departure from the mansion murder mystery of the original skit, this poster features:

Osomatsu - Calming Detective / Sherlock role (?)

Karamatsu - Inspector Lestrade role (?)

Choromatsu - Doctor Watson role (?)

Otoutomatsu - Gentlemen Thieves

Phantom Thieves and Detectives set from Damematsu

Damematsu released a second set very loosely based on Calming Detective Osomatsu where they’re detectives by day and Phantom Thieves by night. The detectives and thieves are all references to various detectives and thieves in media, I don’t know all the references but I’m p sure Karamatsu references Zorro and Todomatsu references Luke from Professor Layton and Kaito Kid.

Pachinko Machine Designs from D-Light/Daiichi a Pachinko Machine Manufacturer

This one is VERY very loosely related to Calming Detective Osomatsu. This time, Choromatsu dons the Calming Detective Osomatsu design, and that’s really the only connection it has to Calming detective. Jyushimatsu’s dog form from the Pachinko Police returns, as a crossover from Pachinko Police and Calming Detective. The other four are various Phantom Thieves.

Clumsy Detective Jyushimatsu from Tabimatsu

Yeah that’s right, you read that right. Calming Detective Osomatsu got a spin-off event for Tabimatsu called Clumsy Detective Jyushimatsu.

Anyway, those are all the variants of calming detective osomatsu so far. I’m not really hoping for another CDO skit soon, since the 1st one is already ok. But I do love me some mystery and it seems like the Werewolf skit next episode will deliver!! Who knows maybe they might throw in some CDO bones for us!! My favorite one has to be the Otsuichi story, I really doubt we’ll get a lot of those kinds of stories in the anime (aside from the occasional ones here and there), but I’ve always loved when the anime throws in a few low-energy, less-gags, skits in the season like “Inn” from Season 2, and the story really scratches that itch.

Edit: turns out that the mansion in the werewolf skit next week is the same mansion calming detective osomatsu is in 👀👀

Happy 46th Birthday, Suzumura Kenichi-san! | 12.09.20

I only realized it was Suzuken’s birthday yesterday when I saw a Kiramune tweet wishing him a happy birthday. A day late, but here’s my birthday commemoration post talking about some of Suzuken’s roles that I love.

#1: Zack Fair - Final Fantasy VII

Long live the best puppy, best friend, best soldier, best hero (and apparently it’s CC’s anniversary today on September 13, so... a happy 13th anniversary to Crisis Core!!). Anyway, in all seriousness, Suzuken’s voice suits Zack so much you can’t imagine anyone else voicing Zack once you’ve heard him. He sounds so natural. It’s like Zack was made for Suzuken xD Also, listening to Maaya and Suzuken as Aerith and Zack are just hhhhh so wholesome and cute >< Here’s to more Zack Fair in later parts of the Remake.

#2: Okita Sougo - Gintama

God I’m sorry I love Okita so much the little shit xD No other comment other than he’s a little shit who has really cool action scenes and I love his interactions with Gintoki (dunno why but I love hearing him call Gin “danna” lol) and I will die asking for more Okikagu scenes (they’re hilarious omg) and Suzuken is just perfect

#3: Hitachiin Hikaru - Ouran High School Host Club

another little shit, or well, two little shits. Hikaru and Kaoru, the insufferable twins xD I never really did read the manga and I’ve only watched like half of the anime (lol) but I loved Hikaru (for some reasons I don’t quite remember) and I kind of shipped him with Haruhi (and not because they’re Suzuken and Maaya, no). I like seeing them together :3

#4: Myoue - Kyousougiga

Kyousougiga was a super cool anime. Very artistic and aesthetically pleasing. The story was quirky and unique with enough emotional depth. The characters were amazing! (Please I need more Rie Matsumoto anime!) Watched this back when I just started watching anime and I haven’t yet recognized a lot of seiyuu names but I remember loving Myoue and Suzuken as Myoue. Still one of the best anime in the last decade.

#5: Hans Humpty - Rokka no Yuusha

Rokka no Yuusha was an interesting piece of locked-room mystery. Though I don’t quite remember the plot nor the characters, but I do remember liking it back when I first saw it, and Suzuken’s character was a favorite. Why I’m putting this on #5? Because I realize I haven’t seen a lot of Suzuken anime apparently and among others that I have seen, I think Rokka no Yuusha kind of tops them.

And for some honorable mentions:

Demyx - Kingdom Hearts

I think I remember listening to Suzuken’s Demyx once upon a time. Yeah, kind of like that staple Suzuken’s upbeat character. I don’t remember much of Demyx’s Japanese voice, and my memory of him is based on his KH2 appearance (because I haven’t played KH3 yet). Still, I’d like to mention him here :)

Kokutou Mikiya - Kara no Kyoukai

Another Maaya x Suzuken role :3 I need to get back to watching this tbh.

Mirokuji Yuuya - Re:Creators

The series had an interesting premise, but it never really did deliver. Still, Yuuya was my favorite among the bunch, and Suzuken was a plus :D (also, it’s another anime with both Suzuken and Maaya!! And I loved the rivalry between their characters too! Maaya’s character was awesome)

Iyami - Osomatsu-san

I still can’t quite associate Iyami’s voice with Suzuken... though I only watched the first...four episodes? of the first season ^^; Well, I’d still like to mention him here, because Suzuken as Iyami is just too weird xD

Now that I think about it…if you look at Dawn and Zoey from Diamond & Pearl…they could pull this off. I’m starting to have some questions for Pokemon’s animators in the mid-2000s. Next factor is that every time I attended Kraken Con in Oakland, they would usually play the first 4 episodes of this anime. And I would catch a few minutes or a random episode (most of the time it was episode 3). And finally, it’s an anime that came out in the 1980s. Let’s face it, what other anime have I watched came out before 1986 that’s not named Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball, or Ranma ½? Thought so! If you're in big trouble, call the World Welfare Work Association or 3WA. They will send out a team of highly trained capable agents (also known as Trouble Consultants) who can solve your problems. But if the team they send you is the infamously named Dirty Pair, there will be a lot of collateral damage aside from solving your problems. The Dirty Pair (or Lovely Angels as the girls would like to be refered to) consists of Kei and Yuri, two ladies who are well equipped to help whoever, wherever, and whenever…for the right price. Win these ladies over with handsome men, bonuses, and luxurious items and they’ll help you with whatever the problem is. BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: I do face the same kind of dilemma watching this as I did with Rose of Versailles because I’m going to experience hearing people I’ve never really listened to until now (with the exception of Yuri’s seiyuu because she was in a lot of the Rumiko Takahashi animes I’ve watched). Licensing wise, last checked, Nozomi Entertainment has all the Dirty Pair animes (including the TV series, specials, OVA series, the spin-off series, and the movie). And if memory serves, I believe ADV once had claims over some if not all of this series. However, not everything got a dub. Pretty much, everything except for the original TV series got a dub. I got a chance to listen to the English dub and thought it was okay for the most part. It’s not ear-gratingly horrifying if that’s what you want me to say. With the dub, I noticed Yuri’s voice was different in some specials and I do have a theory on that. Apparently Jessica Calvello voiced Yuri during the OVA series, while Allison Sumrall did the specials and movies. My guess for that was when they were dubbing this, it was around that time when Calvello blew out her vocal chords…Yeah, that happened. But no complaints from me here either! Here’s what you might recognize these folks from. JAPANESE CAST: *Kei is played by Kyouko Tonguu *Yuri is played by Saeko Shimazu (known for Kodachi on Ranma ½, Princess Abi on InuYasha, and Shinobu on Urusei Yatsura) ENGLISH CAST: *Kei is played by Pamela Lauer *Yuri [in the OVA series] is played by Jessica Calvello (known for Prima on Pokemon, Hange on Attack on Titan, Excel on Excel Saga, Aika on Aria, Kanako on Maria Holic, and Suigintou on Rozen Maiden: Zurückspulen) *Yuri [in the movie] is played by Allison Sumrall (known for Kagura on Azumanga Daioh, Miia on Monster Musume, Shinichi’s mother on Parasyte, and Sasasegawa on Little Busters)

SHIPPING: These ladies are quite promiscuous. So it’s pretty easy to say they flirt with a different sort of men each episode. But there was one episode during the television run where Yuri really had something for a boy that deserves a mention. In the 8th episode of the original TV series, Yuri gets word of a childhood love (named Billy) reaching out to her. She was ready to leave her life and job as a Lovely Angel to be with him. Unfortunately, Kei comes across the unfortunate truth about Yuri’s long-lost love, Billy. He died while trying to complete his project. But Kei decided to keep this fact away from Yuri and instead told her it’ll take Billy a lot longer to complete his work. And Yuri will wait for him.

There have been a few notable men as well that made a dent in Kei and Yuri’s love life. Hell, there was even an episode where Yuri almost tied the knot with a man in the OVA series that almost got me to second guess Yuri’s angle. When it comes to Kei…yeah, there were a few guys on her radar but none that really stood out. Except I couldn’t help but wonder if there would ever be something between Kei and Carson from the movie! Regardless, Kei and Yuri are just too promiscuous and wild to just settle down with one guy (unless he was a handsome sugar daddy). ENDING TO TV SERIES: I don’t want to call it much of an ending because all the episodes follow the same pattern and that’s the girls work on a case they’re given and they finish their mission (more or less). If you ask me, the television series should have ended on the two-parter episode where Kei and Yuri are helping a family find a plane that has 463 missing passangers.

The final episode consisted of the girls in an apartment with three salesmen and a policeman in game of who’s the killer. Because of recent murders in the area involving women, Kei and Yuri were placed in an apartment to be on lookout. And for some reason, those four men wound up in the apartment together. Thanks to some clever intuition on Yuri’s part, she was able to figure out who the killer was and the reason behind the killer’s message. A year after the television series ended, they released two special episodes that follow suit to the series. Meaning the girls have to solve their mission. And the final one involved trying to save their chief from some kidnappers. PROJECT EDEN: Oh my God, could this movie be any more 1980s?! Half the movie has no dialogue and all those parts feel like a long-ass music video. I’m not knocking it, I just find it amusing. I want to call it a side-story from the original series. Basically, Kei and Yuri are working together with a smuggler (named Carson D. Carson…this name is literally too funny to comment on) from a previous mission to stop a crazy doctor from unleashing aliens upon the world. Seriously, just watch this! It’s a trip! OVA SERIES: Two years after the original television series finished (1987), Dirty Pair was given 10 more episodes in an OVA series. I guess you can call it a sequel as the stories all seem to follow the same premise as Yuri and Kei are on a different mission in each episode. There were only a few key differences here. First of all, unlike the television series, this set got an English dub. Again, I still don’t know why they neglected to dub the original TV series and dub this, the movie, and spin-off. Whatever! Secondly, in this series we got to see a few more people who work in the 3WA (besides Chief Gooley). The 3WA is a big organization and we really knew nothing about anyone else aside from Kei and Yuri (and to a lesser extent Chief Gooley). But there were characters like Madam Beryl and Dr. Q who seem to show up in more than just one episode here to help the girls. It's a shame we never saw more of these OVA's. And then we have Dirty Pair Flash!

What the shit?! What is this hot mess? This is not Yuri and Kei! I know their names are Yuri and Kei, but they’re not the ones I’ve been watching for the past year. As you can see, this is a definite product of the 1990s. Take something from the 70s and 80s and bastardize it with wonky animation, flashy colors, and every kooky sound effect you heard during 1990’s animes! Give me one good reason why I should even look at this!

Holy crap, is that Rica freakin’ Matsumoto in that fucking main cast?! And this was BEFORE she played Satoshi?! Fine…Imma watch it!

This is Kei and Yuri. No, they’re not the Kei and Yuri from the original series. This Kei and Yuri are different. This series is sort of an alternate setting to the original Dirty Pair. It’s not the same universe where the 3WA gives the names “Kei” and “Yuri” to new recruits. There won’t be an episode where both Kei’s and Yuri’s meet. This is something completely different! Now aside from their “radical” new look, Kei and Yuri here kinda differ from the Kei and Yuri from the 1980’s anime? Just a smidge. Kei is way more tomboyish than the original one. I know the original Kei was a tomboy too, but she also seemed promiscuous when it came to men unlike the newer one. This Kei didn’t really feel too interested in men all that much. Both Yuri’s seem the same as they can both be promiscuous, flighty, and hopelessly romantic when it comes to men. But the one thing that stays the same is that these girls always find a way to botch-up the missions. The cast of course has changed and with many more recognizable voice actors in the sub (to me). Here’s what you might recognize these folks from. JAPANESE CAST: *Kei is played by Rica Matsumoto (known for Ash on Pokemon, Yami/Bakura on YGO, Rumi on Perfect Blue, Choromatsu on Osomatsu-kun, and Sis on Now and Then Here and There) *Yuri is played by Mariko Kouda (known for Sakura on Pokemon, Nayuki on Kanon, Kaya on One Piece, and Juri on Vampire Knight) ENGLISH CAST: *Kei is played by Sue Ulu (known for Ritsuko on Neon Genesis Evangelion and Ayako on Golden Boy) *Yuri is played by Kim Sevier (known for Yui on Neon Genesis Evangelion and Noriko on Golden Boy) Dirty Pair Flash had something I kinda wished to see with the original series. Continuity! At least it was the case of the first set of OVA’s as it does show how this Kei and Yuri got paired up and their hardships of having to work together as the “Lovely Angels” of the 3WA. While with the original, we already jump into Kei and Yuri’s line of work where they already have a reputation as the infamous “Dirty Pair”, here we actually see this Kei and Yuri first get paired up. Kei was a delinquent and on probation and Yuri was one of the lowest in her class, let’s pair them up! What could possibly go wrong?

The first set of OVA’s had Kei on a literal manhunt for someone only to later find out it was a former member of the 3WA who has been causing mischief. Hell, she was one of the original Lovely Angel duo. The second set of OVA’s Kei and Yuri had to spend 5 episodes with a computer geek named Touma. The episodes here weren’t as continuous as they were in the previous set (as they don’t follow a strict storyline). And the finale to the second set felt very rushed to take out one bad guy. Seriously, all that build-up for such a sorry payoff!

The final set of OVA’s, five more stories that don’t connect whatsoever. And that’s a shame since you got an episode where Kei is taking care of a (now) orphaned baby and an episode where Yuri is a literal object of a little boy’s desire. I will give it this, the final episode where there’s a terrorist on the loose trying to kill the chief of the 3WA was pretty intense. All in all, Dirty Pair Flash was okay. I think I was more of a fan of the original Dirty Pair, but that’s just me. There were some things I liked from Flash too, don’t get me wrong. This series however gets extra points having Rica Matsumoto sing several songs on here. As for old school Dirty Pair…I can honestly say I jumped into this series blind-folded. One of the types of animes I don’t normally touch are sci-fi and mecha. It was never really my thing but every few years or so I would pick up titles with those specific genres. But I enjoyed watching the episodes of Dirty Pair. I almost want to compare this to any cop show you see on TV. Mostly for the aspect of two cops working together! It’s easy to say that Kei and Yuri do get the job done, but sometimes they fuck up. And that’s a common trope in many cop shows/movies (the entertaining ones). Plus I always found myself chuckling at the witty/catty banter between Kei and Yuri. How often do you see two female cops in this situation? In most of the shows I’ve seen it’s always between two guys! Sure it gives off a stereotype of if you put two girls in a room, all they’ll do is bitch and scratch each other’s eyes out. Yes, this does happen from time to time. But Kei and Yuri have always gotten along for the most part.

…Oh yeah…I suppose I should talk about the sex appeal. Even for the time this aired, I’m surprised they got away with these girls wearing butt-hugging shorts in literally every episode. Then again, it’s Japan. I can’t imagine what they’d be wearing nowadays. But for what it’s worth, I say give it a watch. If you’re a fan of police shows, mecha, or both, this might be right up your alley. And if you want to give Dirty Pair Flash a try, go for it too. I just suggest watching the original first, but that’s just my opinion. Through Nozomi Entertainment, you can purchase just about anything of Dirty Pair for home video. Nozomi Entertainment also put up a few of the specials, the movie Project Eden, and the entire set of Dirty Pair Flash on their Youtube page. Okay, now that’s over with. What’s the next Discotek license/older anime am I watching next?

One Punch Man 2 1

This season’s name…sounds counterintuitive, to say the least.

I love how Genos is carrying a box of hijiki (which looks like hair) and Saitama’s wearing a shirt that says “hair” (in kanji) all over it. It’s funny for a bald man and his “work of modern art”.

I never knew Genos was so blunt. Maybe because the last season was a good 2 – 3 years ago…and was by Madhouse and Shingo Natsume, and so this feels slightly different.

Oh, Sonic…! I didn’t realise how much I missed you! (Not to mention, you look hot with the off-the-shoulder shirt, y’know?)

“Enoki” is a type of mushroom.

It’s Takamatsu being Takamatsu again. Also… I forgot to mention this earlier, but…Taiga Umatani seems to be related to Kurari Umatani (who is credited for Boueibu), so…I wonder if it’s a collective writer’s name for Studio Comet, like Izumi Todo for Toei? The only thing that goes against that is the fact “Kurari” existed during the Diomedea days of Boueibu. Also Isekandar seems to be related to Yamato’s Iscandar (which Takamatsu seems to like, based on the fact he once used Matsumoto metres as a shorthand for being in space). If you don’t understand, Yamato’s endgoal contains a place called Iscandar and that’s by Leiji Matsumoto.

Okayyyyy…what are these rabbit creatures…? But yes, it does smack of Boueibu simply because the episode layout’s the same.

Hmm…? So Robby seems be En (the do-nothing life) in spirit, but Kinshiro in background, but also he runs away from his fortune. “Hmm” indeed.

Oh! That’s what this string of misfortunes reminds me of! The monsters of the day from Boueibu.

Hatchi is a Kinshiro in looks but an Atsushi by being a goody-goody.

Hmm…they actually bother to show girls now…apparently Takamatsu went to a boys-only school, which is why his original works focus on dudes (as in, you can pick out when Takamatsu is adapting someone else’s work because it has a heavier focus on girls as supporting characters).

Mechs and spaceships are probably two of the only ways I accept CGI…and you, Takamatsu sir, have just done it (the latter)!

Come to think of it, Daisuke from DN Angel had to dodge traps every day before he became Dark…(thinking of this because I reread the first volume of DN Angel recently)

Kimetsu no Yaiba 3

I just really like how Tanjiro’s eyes grew larger with what was clearly resolution before he closed the door.

Why do the non-descript hunters look like Giyu too…?

I’ve never seen KnY so comedic…and that’s coming from someone who thought the Head Demon fight from last episode was funny.

Welp, this is…kinda interesting (<- says a fan of Touken Ranbu).

This letter writing…it reminds me of Kekkai Sensen somewhat.

This realistic water…it’s beautiful, but it looks like it came straight out of Niagara Falls. Is that…too realistic for anime?

I’v read the wiki page for Chuuya enough to know the next few eps involve the LN Fifteen, so even though I haven’t read a translation of the source material, I know some of the ins and outs of it already.

I think at this point in time, all viewers are used to Dazai’s bulls*** by now.

Is it just me…or did Bones use CGI for the city? It actually looks kind of good…! Sasuga Bones!

I have a fic that predates Fifteen and could be set in the same period (the fic’s vague enough that it could’ve been them at 15, 18 or even 12)…and basically the only thing I got wrong was the fact Chuuya doesn’t have his hat (because I wrote Chuuya as having his hat in the fic). Also, the banter is tenser than I imagined it, but that’s subjective and something only I, the fic writer, can compare.

I wonder who the yellow-tinted Ability holder is…? Update: That’s Randou. Spoke too soon.

Well, with only one suspect (or 3, if you count the Sheep kids), it was quite easy to figure out one of them was behind it. I kind of suspected Randou, anyway, considering what I’ve learnt from all the mysteries I’ve read.

Because I was watching this episode with the volume down low (so I could hear the OP and ED), the volume really did work wonders for the plot this ep…!

King of Prism – Shiny 7 Stars 1

This is the final debut of the season, so basically how this and Shield Hero perform will decide what will stay and what will go. Oh, yeah…apparently this is the companion to a movie, but the movie and TV series have slightly different content.

…welp, I didn’t expect it to be that much CGI.

This chunk of exposition…makes me feel like I missed something. It was probably in the previous movies, come to think of it…

Basically, this is…uh, Makura no Danshi or Room Mate all over again??? I’m noping out of here…! Bye!

…uh, age gap romance? It’s hard to tell at this stage, but they (Filo and Melty) sure act like it is romance.

Welp, this survived the chopping block. “Raphtalia backstory” is a good enough reason to stick around for, isn’t it?

Double Decker! EX 3 (FINAL)

I always miss the OP when I’m not watching Double Decker, but I miss the ED even more…

I can’t believe they tried to get away with a Spirited Away parody…!

I love how Kirill is censoring himself. (At least he can prove he’s not a girl, unlike Valery/Milla, whose entire shtick is the confusion between genders.)

Oh! I think I know the answer to the case already! It was Kirill’s soap, so Doug is the “killer”. But then…why is it Derick, of all people???

LOL, the angles were so reminiscent of Detective Conan…

Notably, one of the signs said “Union” in katakana. It must be an English play on words…y’know, trade union and union = connecting with each other? I’m surprisingly enjoying myself a lot with Sarazanmai, by the way. I didn’t think I would, but I am!

I think that might be Irohassu water. Or Dasani. I saw both those brands in Japan, but I don’t remember which had the green flowers.

Oh…my goodness! Nekoyama (Cat Mountain) Mokichi (written with kanji for “hair” and “luck”). It’s a Boueibu monster! Frick, I’m laughing too hard!

It’s very small and very thin, but the word next to the cat in the eyecatch is neko.

“…Meow God!” – It’s a pun on “Oh, My God!” but with a “meow” in it. It’s pretty forced, but it does get the nuance of the joke across…

Why the heck did the subbers choose “herb” as the word for weed in this? “Weed” is sufficient, right? Right…?

Well…if that spurt of water wasn’t symbolic…I don’t know what is.

The title translates better as “…but I want to steal”. Y’know, add a little force into it.

The two As and the “sara” below it seem to make a zombie face, huh?
