this one to me is rather special. Bite the Bullet, Bless the Barrel is a banger through and through, and i think it speaks for itself. it was composed with my partner at the time, and i particularly love the bridge onward.

my first literacy and technology essay is on digital literacy in peoples personal lives. this is the best day of my life. trying to decide if i want to write about people who say “what if the author just liked blue and its not symbolism” to their english teachers or the severe lack of media literacy in fandom spaces. both are delightful

Don't you hate it in science fiction when the protagonist knows exactly how something works, right down to the theory and components? That pulls me right out of the story. I don't know how a garage door opener works, you probably don't either, so I wouldn't spend four paragraphs explaining it to a hot alien chick I just met. I'd be too busy asking her if she has Craigslist on her phone.
I can absolutely understand why authors want to do this, though. When you're writing a novel, the blank page is terrifying. You fill it with what you know, and if you've been studying "cool spaceships," it turns out that will be top of mind for a little while until you discover a Wikipedia article about a new kind of gravity. The same thing happens at parties. If you ask me about the weather, the conversation will inevitably degenerate into a discussion of exactly when you need to start looking for oversized crankshaft bearings and what kinds of semi-truck batteries are the right size to steal for use in a car. It's detail you don't need, in other words, but that I have in large quantities.
What's the solution for this? Knowing nothing at all. Studies have shown that the less you know, the happier you are. Doing these studies made the scientists involved sadder, which is basically a peer-review if you ask me. The less you know about a subject, the more easily you can let the plot take over. For instance, I don't have a really solid idea of where on the map Egypt is, but if you asked me to throw together a novel about it, it would probably be a pretty good banger until the halfway mark where they find an old Jeep that doesn't run and the next two hundred pages are a regurgitation of the Haynes manual's wiring diagram section. Come to think of it, that would be an amazing book.
So in conclusion, try to know less tomorrow than you know today. Go out there and forget a whole bunch of stuff. Head to your local public library and rub your face on the books until the ideas come back out of your brain and embed themselves inside the pages, where they belong. And then get back home, grab your 1977 Royal Sahara typewriter, which is really a rebadged Triumph-Adler, and re-lube the strike hammer elbow to get rid of that weird little squeak in the spaceb – oh no, it's happening again. I gotta get to the library.

Film Review: Challengers (2024) (⭑⭑⭑⭑1/2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
WARNING: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS
An electrifying, passionate and heart-racing film, Challengers is the ultimate winner -takes- all story.
The story follows Tashi Duncan (Zendaya), who is a former tennis star, help coach her husband Art (Mike Faist), who is equally a good tennis player, for the ATP challenger tour. However, things get heated when Art has to play against Patrick (Josh O'Connor), his former best- friend and Tashi's Ex-lover.
The characters in the film are so individual, yet work so well together. Take Tashi Duncan, the ringleader. She knows how to win, and from being a former tennis prodigy, she knows how to manipulate situations to her advantage. From early on, she understands how obsessed Art and Patrick are with her. She plays both of them off, just like a game of tennis. Tashi being the ball and going from one guy to the other.
Art is the ultimate needy guy, but that doesn't make him unlikeable, in fact it's the complete opposite. As you're watching him on screen, you grow almost protective over him and are secretly rooting for him throughout. He loves Tashi and states this in the movie. He would do anything to keep her happy, but is also completely in awe of her just like when he was a teenager. He needs Tashi's approval, or at least he feels it.
Patrick is the complete polar opposite of Art. He's competitive, headstrong and confrontational. He wastes no time in letting Tashi know what he wants from her and is the only character in this film that doesn't appear to be scared of her. He even tells Tashi that he views her as a peer, not a member of her fan club. Safe to say that when Patrick is on the screen, it's never boring.
Now the relationship between Art and Patrick is complex. With Patrick being the most cocky out of the two, he finds any way to humiliate Art, which over time, chips away at Art's confidence. However, when you watch the film, it's evident that both characters need each other. After all, they both have a passionate love for tennis (they play together in tournaments). They both understand each other, all while being incredibly competitive. Competitiveness is what fuels these characters in all aspects of the movie.
Visually, the film is a warm saturation heaven. The set is bright and so is the costuming. The use of strong colours in this film, reflect the strong characters. And on screen, it's captivating. In my opinion, the styling of the movie has a very Italian look.
What really makes the film though, is the phenomenal soundtrack. The addictive club bangers keep your eyes glued to the screen. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross created the best movie score of 2024. It's punchy, seductive and spellbinding, that even once you leave the cinema you have the tunes stuck in your head. That coupled with the fast camera shots during the tennis scenes, it's cinema at it's finest.
The acting is superior. Zendaya's facial expressions keep you hooked. Especially in scenes with Josh O'Connor. She displays deep emotion on her face, fluidly, never stiffly. Or even at the beginning at the film when the camera makes a direct bee-line for her from the sidelines. Chills literal chills. Zendaya's acting is unique and mesmerising.
Overall, I'm left with a rush after watching. This film even manages to spark my competitive wild side. I think the dynamic of the love triangle is refreshing and interesting. To watch two guys fawn over the same girl hasn't really been done to this level before in Hollywood but it just works. Challengers is everything I would want a good film to be. And I'm going to say it now... Cinema is back!
Challengers is out now only in theatres.

by the way for anyone wondering the research essay is something all students at my school in my grade have to do its usually a month or more's worth of process & we have to include no less than eight sources that are either peer reviewed or verified by the catholic church. mine is about religious symbolism in secular media with a focus on the role of catholicism in gangster films—specifically, mean streets & the godfather (i also need to pick a third but im indecisive). if anyone has any articles or analysis of this kind of stuff feel free to send them to me. even though i dont have access to most academic articles given that im not part of a university or institution the teacher whos helping me said he'll get access to them for me. im really excited to write about this cause its one of my special interests & its gonna be a fucking banger essay

Bucchigiri?! Episode 6 Review - The Gang War
This was a heavy action-packed episode! But there was a satisfactory conclusion. It makes me wonder what will happen now as it’s Episode 6—the halfway point. The main villain, supposedly, has been defeated and Arajin is now respected by everyone. What’s next for him? We still haven’t explored Ichiya’s role in the story and Mitsukuni has yet to make his official debut. I feel like the second half will be about that?
Tumblr media
Anyways, shout out to the Arajin defenders because your boy finally did something substantial for once! I respect those who defend him and his writing! However, I’m still not viewing him favorably. The fact that he went to the scene of the fight, saw Matakara and others get beaten up and still wouldn’t involve himself in the scene and even thought about leaving when Mahoro rejected him once again was a bit frustrating to watch. You won’t help out even as a decent human being? Is getting Mahoro’s heart all that matters to you? What if someone dies because of your inability to act? It was nice for him to finally take action, it was only when Akutaro smacked Mahoro that he did something as he didn’t want a rehash of what happened with Matakara during his childhood—Arajin, maybe you should’ve done that when Matakara was down?
I did like seeing the flashback of how Siguma came to be and how Marito’s ultimate goal is to defeat Kenichiro in a fight. It was nice seeing Marito and Outa as freshman and how his mind worked back then and now. Marito wants a good fight, all in all. Though, knowing that Kenichiro is a frequent school repeater because he wants Marito (or someone) to defeat him is hilarious. Why go to such lengths to stay in school?
Mahoro was cool for standing up against Akutaro. She has more balls than Arajin, to be honest. I love how her sharp tongue is one of her defining traits as she used it to reject Arajin and now to tell Akutaro off. She’s not wrong about the things she said to him, though. Akutaro is a coward and practically nothing without weapons and cheats. Since Arajin protected her, will their relationship change? I think it’ll change it a bit? She probably won’t fall for Arajin immediately, but maybe she’ll view him a bit more favorably?
Speaking of Akutaro, can I mention how much of a banger the NG Boys’ theme song is? Like, I was bopping my head during the scene of him fighting everyone with his whip. Akutaro did feel like a final boss of sorts, but given that this is Episode 6, he’s practically a disc-one/first arc boss; it seems that Ichiya, the genie possessing Akutaro is the real final boss. While Akutaro did reveal that he knows Arajin has Senya possessing him, he refuses to elaborate too much. Whether his actions are being done on his own or by Ichiya are still yet to be elaborated. I have a feeling that it’s the latter. If Akutaro is battered and no longer useful, it’s the perfect set up to find a new host—which is most likely Matakara as hinted in the opening.
I have seen theories about how the next half of the story will be a bit of a downfall as Arajin got everything he wanted in the first half with him getting a genie, the “princess” (Mahoro) and to be seen as strong by his peers as it ties to the original story of Aladdin and the Lamp. This intrigues me a lot. I can’t wait to see what Ichiya does to make the story more engaging as he has yet to make a true appearance. He has a voice actor reveal, however. The official Twitter page of Bucchigiri revealed that his voice actor is Tetsuharu Ota, who is known for voicing Yamazaki from Gintama.
I can’t wait to see what the second half of the show has to offer. There won’t be a new episode next week due to a table tennis match; instead, there will be a recap episode narrated by Arajin’s voice actor Genki Okawa. This means Episode 7 will be aired on March, so I’ll see you guys in two weeks! What are your thoughts on this episode?

alright
Magnus (@magnuficentwo) - my good friend magnus my best friend magnus i have no clue how we even started following eachother (i forgor) but it reblogs my art and Understands me when i rant off abt random shit and draws cool thangs and has a store of concrete for chewing on whenever i write something cool . we talk a lot and its great. i love you magnus (platonic) also i want to kiss baltazar on the mouth btw
Lavos/Alto (@themanwhomadeamonster) - only warframe mutual as of now. we send eachother dumb shit (affectionate) all the time. not into borderlands but they still call me Wainlock which, tbh, hilarious and fitting. we often discuss more general topics too and its great :)
Ren (@jakobslock) - listen we don't really show up in eachothers notes that much but to not include Ren Jakobslock would be a sin on behalf of me. they were my Mentor in the ways of borderlands old man yaoi. they passed the torch of wainlockposter onto me and i have carried it since. they also are responsible for getting me into psychonauts. my good friend Ren Jakobslock may you live long and prosper
Coyote (@ghostlycoyote0) - on my blog i sometimes have a bit abt me being a monarch and my mutuals being my knights, advisors or squires. Coyote is some of my most loyal squires - not exactly a friend i talk to a crapton but one that certainly shows up in my notes a lot and dutifully likes and reblogs pretty much all my wainlock related posts. also often puts good peer reviewable tags on them, and when we do talk it's very enjoyable
Helios (@handsome-john) - scp mutual, house of leaves mutual, also understander of me being in the Borderlands Tranches and holder of similar controversial borderlands opinions to mine. banger writer to boot, if i could i would print out moldhouse and eat it. frequently we discuss Themes and Motifs in borderlands, and if you know anything abt that fandom you'd know that someone you can talk to abt the Themes and Motifs is exceptionally rare
Snowball (@snowballeclipse) - great artist, cult of the lamb mutual, passionate abt Gythian lore almost as much as i am. funky au haver, reblogger of my sillies
if you arent on this list im sorry i still appreciate you
