Eclipse wasn't supposed to have a sequel, it was an open ending. There was demand for a part 2 and i wasn't gonna write it but its almost midnight, i dont know how i feel and im sitting under a waxing gibbous rn and the light is all through my room and its dark in here.

Unfortunately, you were not an eclipse.

To call yourself an eclipse is something exclusive to the bitter and the spiteful. Those who are too angry at themselves to see that it was no ones fault, and people grow apart.

The brushing of shoulders in the hall stopped feeling like anything, and eventually stopped all together. Making eye contact with him was met back with an equally cold stare. To say there was any warmth left in those crimson eyes for you was a laughable attempt at pretending like you were still a part of his life.

It was a simple fact that you just weren't a part of his life anymore, nor was he in yours. His hoodies and other knickknacks dropped off at the nearest donation bin as the spring came and you did your cleaning. You no longer clung to the happy memories because the morebyou look back, the more you realized they didn't happen, did they?

They say it comes with taking off the rose tinted glasses, which could very well be true, and maybe you're clinging to the things you didn't like about him to make yourself think it was for the better. debatable. You never liked that he left his sweaty workout clothes on the floor, and even though you told him you couldnt handle all of his spices he would still put them in and tell you to get over it.

Maybe thats why you still keep all your old pictures together in its album, if digital albums could collect dust then that one would be spotless. You open it frequently for some unknown reason, you say its to laugh at how dumb you were for thinking it would work, and to learn from your mistakes. Mistakes are not placed in an ornate box in the front of your mind for you to open at any moment you desire, so why are yours there?

Bakugo was once your sun, and you would've done anything to show him you were worthy of his light just three months ago. Now you find yourself with a dull shine, and you celebrate because there once was no shine at all, you find yourself looking to tell someone who's no longer there; you scoff and tell your girlfriends instead who've been with you the entire way.

The groupchat doesn't feel right anymore, the orher girls knew how you felt about the sun once. The moon left you, all light from the sun has to leave one way or another. But thats okay, the girls go out with you for girls days and you stop counting stars in your sleep because you know they'll never be you.

They say the whole "breakup thing" is hard, but what is there to mourn if nothing was there in the first place? The sun, the moon, and the stars are always there, even if they do not shine for you and do not bend to shine for anyone but themselves. You understood this as the law of the universe, so it didn't hurt. Nothing can hurt you if you excpected it all from the beginning.

The tightness in your chest when you see the anniversary posts every month can easily be chalked up to a long night of internet browsing, your hands are clenched into fists because of cramps, you should really get off of your phone.

But you cant, because long nights of browsing are some of the only moments of peace that you can manage without having the urge to punch something. The moon isn't the best company, but you'd rather befriend the stars than face the sun again.

They say the whole "breakup thing" is hard, maybe it is if there was really something there. But after a while of telling yourself that you felt nothing, you really start to feel nothing; or at least you think it feels like nothing. You still feel as empty as you did on the first day, but its an emptiness you've grown comfortable with and that's enough for you.

You want to wish for all of the celestial figures to disappear one day, no more eclipses, no clouds of smog to cover the stars and for the new moon to be permanent. But to wish for such things is for bitter people who can't get over something as simple as a breakup, so you wish for the sun and moon to continue as they are for all eternity and for the stars to watch in awe.

You'll watch with them one day.

When the comfortable ache, the emptiness starts to feel like home.

also before i post this i wanna clarify two things:

english is absolutely not my first language, this was written with the help of google docs and google translator, every mistake is immediately and utterly their fault

i'm not that sure of how christmas actually works there in the united states. i dont think you guys have Christmas Eve dinners that last until midnight, cause you open your gifts the next day (lame!), but for the sake of the fic, let's pretend you do

Christmas sucked. It always did. Too much sugar and alcohol close to families who were a little bit too close to collapse entirely. But this year, on the contrary, it was just too quiet. You and your family were completely new in town, having moved just a couple days ago. Maybe it was the absence of controversial family members, furniture or feeling of home and belonging, but not even your parents were in the mood this year. 

You had dinner at eight, watched half of the worst christmas movie on the tiniest, shittiest tv and they were both already in bed, fast asleep. 

There were still two hours till midnight and you were not going to spend them on your mattress on the floor. It was just too depressing. So you grabbed your bike, a book, a blanket and your walkman and biked until you found a Seven Eleven. 

There isn't a single soul out, but you can feel the festive vibe on the hair. All the houses are carefully decorated and music is going through every single door. It seems like you are the only one who isn't celebrating. 

Well, you, the cashier and the girl outside, who are having a heated argument through the glass door.

"Oh, cmon, Kyle! It's Christmas!" she yells. The dude is on the door, physically stopping the girl from coming in.

"Exactly! My shift ended seven minutes ago! No. More. Customers."

Seeing that you are already on the register waiting for him to charge you, Kyle closes the glass door on her face. She responds with her middle finger, but you didn't think he notices. You hand him your things and he begins to scan them. 

"That'll be all?" he asks. You look to the side. The girl is still there, even with this cold.

"No, actually. Wait a second, please." You hear him complain when he sees what you’re going to do, but you don't care.

You approach the door and get the girl's attention. 

"What do you want?" you ask. The girl, who’s sitting on the floor, right next to the door, looks up with confused eyes. 

"No! Don't worry, he's just being a dick."

"No, c'mon. What do you want??"

"Are you sure it's okay?" 

You nodd repeatedly, as you hear Kyle yell "Hurry up!" from behind. 

"Just a coke and some chocolate?"

"Great!"

You get her stuff and pay for everything. You even give Kyle a five dollar tip, but he keeps the same pissed off expression. You get your bag and hurry out of there, wishing him a Merry Christmas on your way out. 

Out you meet the girl. She’s taller than you, maybe for a couple of inches and has a blue dress that’s now stained with mud and blood? but she doesn't seem to be aware of it. She’s also shivering from the cold, her jacket not being able to put up a fight against the cold of December.  

"Thank you!" she says as soon as you are out the door. "You didn't have to…"

"Well, it’s Christmas after all" you give her the stuff. She gives you five bucks and you don't have the heart to tell her it was more. She looks like she isn't having the best day ever.

"Yeah…" she looks down at the bag with a sigh.

"I hope that chocolate is okay?"

She looks up again, with a smile this time. She has a nice smile. "It's perfect. I'm Robin, by the way."

"I'm Y/N."

"Nice to meet you.” her rebel hairs dance around with the wind and she’s still shivering, but instead of going away she asks “I’ve never seen you around… Are you visiting for the holidays?”

“No.” you shake your head “I actually moved here a couple days ago.”

“Oh…” there’s a weird undertone there, but you can't quite place it “Welcome, then.”

You accept the gesture, giving her a smile. It almost seems like she hates this place as much as you do, which is weird and kinda scary, but also makes you feel a little less alone.

“I, um… I should get back?" You see her hesitate in the last part of the sentence. It’s pretty obvious she does not want to go back to wherever she came from.

You try to find an alternative, a way to make her stay even a second longer, but you couldn't figure out a single reasonable explanation for why you, two complete strangers, should spend the night together. So you agree with her. "Yeah me too." 

"I don't really want to…" she confesses. You’re glad she did. 

"Me too"

"Crappy Christmas at your house too? " she asks, you chuckle and she smiles harder. 

"Yeah"

"I…" she doubts for a second, but your eyes meet hers with kindness and reassurance so she keeps going "I know it's kinda weird for me to suggest this, but I could, maybe, show you around?… I feel like I should pay you back in some way."

She looks embarrassed and absurdly cute, so there's no other chance but to say yes.

"Yeah, I picked up the serial killer vibe, but honestly it has been one of those days. So let's go."

You bike in silence, occasionally making a turn, with the wind hitting your faces like buckets of freezing water. And just as you're about to ask how long is this gonna take you find the building.

It is old, huge and it looks like nobody had painted it for at least sixty years. The fence was closed, obviously, but she didn't mind. You watched amused and impressed how easily she climbed up the fence and trespassed school property.

And if you weren't already sure you liked her this was probably a very clear indicator. 

She guides you through what is going to be your high school the rest of the school year. You had to admit, it was way better inside than outside and had a pretty sweet auditorium. Still, it was smaller than the last one.

“And… here's my favorite place.” she says as she points at the old library door. You wait for her to open it, like she did with all the rooms before it. She notices. “Oh, they actually close this one during the nights. Someone, definitely not me, may have stolen a few, definitely not more than ten, books and manuals.”

You laugh. She was more of a nerd than you had thought. Interesting. She watches through the window on the door with sadness in her features, so pass your hand through your hair till you find the perfect tool. A hair pin. It's a little old and it might break, but it was your only option. 

“More than ten?” you ask as you kneel in front of the lock.

“No way! Does that actually work? I always thought it was movie bullshit…” you hum yes, focused on your task. “It was thirteen books, by the way”

“Thirteen?” you laugh. 

“I know! But I swear I was going to give them back…” you look at her with an eyebrow up and her innocent face falls apart “Eventually.” 

“Aha…” you tease and she wants to protest but you finally get the door to open “There it is!” she squeals with excitement and that's the cutest sound you’ve heard in a while. “Just no more playing book thief” 

She laughs and comes into the room, you follow right behind. You settle your things at the biggest table, Robin does the same, and even though there were still twenty minutes till midnight the two of you kinda set up a fake Christmas table.  

When everything is in order you take the liberty to explore around for a while. They have good stuff, nothing too special. It needs an update, of course, as many things do these days. But, overall, you aren't so mad about the collection. Until, of course, you see the reading list for sophomore year.

“Robin!” you call out to her. She sticks her head out the language alley and looks over, curious. “Have you seen this shit?”

“Wha– oh, you’ve found the reading list. I know.”

“Not a single woman?” she nods in agreement, “What year are we? Fucking 1935?”

“Totally. And! The whole deal this year is, like, horror and science fiction. How do you teach horror and science fiction without Frankenstein?”

You agree with her, still offended. “It 's ridiculous.” You complain as you both go back to the table. You try sitting down, but it feels… odd. “This is weird, right?” She nods, so you settle for a space of floor between bookshelves. “Better”

“Much better.” 

You talk and you share your food and complain a bit more about the educational system. After a while her eyes focus on one of the books behind you. You turn to look too. You’re in the poetry section and the book she’s staring at was a compilation, written by someone called Emily Dickinson. You haven’t heard about her, poetry wasn’t really your deal. But you did enjoy it.

Robin leaves her spot on the floor to grab it, and you’re confused when instead of keeping it for herself she tries to hand it to you.

“What are you doing?” You ask.

“Well, it’s Christmas after all. And you’ve already given me all of these…” She points at the food spread on the floor “So this is your gift.”

You smile “I haven’t even started at this school and I already have stolen something…” You reflect. Robin starts to second guess her decision.

“If you don’t like it it’s totally fine, I–“

“No, I love it. Thank you so much, Robin.”

You fall into a comfortable silence that doesn't last much longer. 

"Can I ask you a question?" she says. 

"Yeah."

"If you could run away…" she starts, and you see how her eyes light up with possibilities from just thinking of making it out of here "No money needed, no strings attached. Where would you go?"

You think for a while. "Italy" She seems to like the answer.

"Can I ask why?"

"My grandma lived in Italy most of her life. I want to see every place she talked about. And you?"

"Everywhere except Hawkins" she sentences. You smile sadly, how terrible her life had to be for her to want to escape so badly from her hometown. "But Europe is the dream, for sure."

You don't want to be disrespectful, but the mystery was eating you up. What is she doing here? What, or who, is she running from?

“Can I ask what are you doing in the school library at eleven forthy two on christmas eve? Or is it too soon?”” you don't want to make her feel uncomfortable, so you ask carefully. 

She lowers her gaze. Fuck, you blew it. 

“Im sorry” you whisper. She shakes her head and looks up with an expression you can't quite read.

“No, it's fine.” she sighs, grabbing another chocolate before starting to talk “Extended family came over. Aunts and uncles and little cousins type of Christmas.”

“Uh, rough.”

“Yes” she chuckles. “And my parents are usually cool, but family approval has always been their achilles heel. So you know, clean house, no swearing and this stupid dress.”

“Honestly, the dress isn't that bad” 

“Cmon…”

“I'm serious!” you say but it's obvious she doesn't believe you. “It’s like… you know when you eat those little candy balls? And how sometimes the colors get mixed up and you eat a red one but it tastes like a blue one. It looks like that. It's not bad, it's just not… sincere? I guess”

As soon as you finish your deep analysis you notice she was staring. Head slightly tilt to the side, confused expression, like she’s trying to figure out how the hell did you come to that conclusion. 

“That's exactly how I feel. Constantly.”

“That makes two of us.” You cheer for your problems with the two cokes you’d bought, which, thanks to the weather of December, were still pretty cold. “So, apart from sexism and really bad taste in books, is there anything more about Hawkins that you need to warn me about?”

Her eyes light up and you don't know if it is from the implicit question of a future together, but you hope so. There’s something special about this girl.

“Oh, there's so many people I need to warn you about! So many assholes” you can't hold the laughter that escapes your lips. She said it with such an innocent smile.

“That's great! So excited to start, then” Your sarcasm makes her laugh too. 

“At least we can shit talk together?”

“Robin Buckley, you're officially the first, and only, person I like in this entire town.”

“Honestly? You too.” You cheer again, just as the clock showes midnight. “Merry Christmas, Y/N.”

an update about 'pretending to be you', 'spider/fly' and other stories in the AU:

Hello friends! After getting a few passive-aggressive (and one quite aggressive) comments regarding this, that, and whatever, i sat back and really thought about this fic. i haven't talked much about my upload schedule, but my plan when i write a chapter is to give myself two weeks to write a 7-10k chapter, revise, and post, all while sticking to my very rigorous and rigid outline. as i got more invested in this story, that outline was shifted over, and over, and over, until i was missing my 'rules' for myself over and over. it made me quite upset with myself, and feeling like i was writing too much about what made *me* happy and not enough of what would make *yall* happy, which i saw as more important. frankly, these last few chapters with ere have been the most fun ive had with this fic in months. and with some people not liking the direction i was taking pretending to be you, i got upset with myself for going 'off script' and not following the fic outline and the word requirements for chapters. i felt like, despite the fact that i was *finally* having fun again, i was letting yall down. and that aint a healthy way to approach writing, ya know? ive always written for other's approval. i rarely write for myself. i wont go into a sob story background, but i struggle with self-esteem a lot and fanfiction was a way to help with that. but ive become so focused on making yall happy that ive neglected writing what makes *me* happy, ya know? it's currently 2.34am. despite the fact that im a college student taking night classes and a teacher, ive been up past midnight every night for days working on this fic while fixating on negative comments, and if i can just do *something* make those commenters happy. Basically, this fic is eating me alive. So, i will be going on hiatus. i know this sucks, especially because we're so close to the end, but i need a break. ive been working on this au for *months* and refusing to let myself do anything else. hell, I've wanted to read that delicious dungeon manga for ages and havent let myself bc i didnt want to have 'distractions' from writing this fic. i rewrote an old fic of mine last week (which yall should read!!!) and it reminded me of when i used to write and not get any interaction. i was sad no one was reading my stuff, but i was actually writing for *me* back then, ya know? anyways, this fic is NOT and will never be abandoned. i *will* finish it! I just dont know when. sorry to everyone, and i hope rude commenters know that this isnt because of you, it's for my own sake. still, being rude to people just trying to have fun is, forgive my french, a dick move. do better, please.

Personally I tend to avoid most things outright abusive (CroTuna is a shining fucking example. Megabarf) but also I ALWAYS hate ships involving Kankri, not just because he’s a blatant textual aroace parody character and I see him as aroace as consequence but because not a SINGLE person has ever romantically shipped Kankri with anyone and actually been normal about it. Quadrant doesn’t matter, he is always just completely beyond recognition.

Also I’ve said this before a couple times but I am just not a fan of DirkJake. Liking it isn’t a moral crime I just do not see it or understand the enduring hype and so many of the fans are insane.

At the end of the day though my biggest HS shipping take is that everyone is wayyyy too focused on romance. wouldn't it be nice (if we could wake up) by kissesforcas, 70k - they finished destroying my heart with soft fluffy low stakes nerdy loveliness in the shire is NOT on fire and decided to come for me from the other direction with some Delicious angst with their take on immediate post-Vecna fallout. Ymmv if you're squicked by imprisonment and/or medical experimentation but it's clearly tagged and there are chapter content warnings! (Light spoiler but) I wanna give a big hand for Steve getting to join in on the monster shenanigans and an absolutely stunning take on the upside down. Almost complete!

I'll Hear You Scream by whileawaythehours, 50k - AUGH. Vampire!Eddie but it's mostly aftermath, and WHAT an aftermath, ooh boy. Definitely a heavy angst start, but proceeded to lovely softness at this point. Features Steve with a big-ass sword, unfortunately overshadowed by circumstance, but a cool image nonetheless.

Lacking Substance Not Fear by ItCanBePalped, 10k - Steve does music! It's Steve & Robin centric so far (possibly my favorite relationship in the show, and excellently done here) with the adventures of keeping Steve's head in one piece. Tackling IRL consequences of things like head injuries can get heavy fast, but so far this is mostly fluff! Steve Is Okay. Robin, I love you.

(something happens and I'm) head over heels by GibbousLunation, 30k - I did two vamp Eddie fics so here are two "Steve gets hit in the head a lot" fics. Steve is uuuuh less okay in this one but at the current chapter they DID find him from where he wandered off and he's gonna be alright.

Only one chapter so far, but the tags imply it's gonna be a doozy (possibly with cuddles 👀) and I always love seeing the songs and band names people come up with for Eddie's rockstar career. Hang in there, Steve!

Descent into the Depths of the Earth (Or at Least Milwaukee) by disastardly, 40k - LAST CHAPTER COMING UP!!! Steve takes the nerds to gen con and has just now registered his own crush and I am LIVING for the gentleness.

standing up the dead by heartofwinterfell, 30k - just an epilogue coming up!! Max pov of Max and Eddie hopping realities together, I Love Them and I love the creativity around the premise, and the execution is A++++

Oh Boy, You’re the Devil! by prettydizzeed, 11k - I really can't describe it better than the summary: "A campy, satirical take on the Satanic Panic, featuring undercover missions to the local church service, falling for the antichrist, and engineering an Easter miracle." Incredible. to unsettle the foundation by the same author has me SO excited, Eddie and Kali is a combination bound to explode.

as for dates, to me he seems the type to be into really spontaneous and random things!! He’d love going somewhere fun or just simply randomly travelling with you without a destination!

He especially loves to sneak out of the dorm late at night and meet you at you and his favourite park.

It’s located at the top of a really tall hill, and you’ll both spend hours sitting on the swings, chatting away with little care for the rest of the world or the time as you both simply giggle at each other’s jokes and contentedly talk about anything and everything; watching the city lights glow from hundreds of metres below you

He’d offer you his jacket when the temperature drops by a few degrees suddenly

You’d be like no!! It’s okay you should also stay warm, I’m okay 🥺

But then because he is such a sweetheart he’d huff and sit next to you on the swing, making the single-seater far too cramped as he tries to supply you with his body heat if that’s the only way that you’ll accept not freezing to death 😠

But then you’ll both slip due to there not being enough space for both of you on the wing, and your both fall flat down on your butts lmao

You’d both freeze, staring at each other blankly on the floor

but then you’d both crack up and laugh for the longest time — hushing each other in-between giggles from the fear of maybe you were being a bit too loud and could wake some people up?

But then you’d both fall into giggling messes once again as you blame each other for causing the other to fall down ):

You’d eventually sit together huddled on a bench, sitting in silence and simply staring out at seoul’s twinkling night lights as you share his leather jacket: heavy and warm as it drapes across you and his’ shoulders

But eventually you’d both finally head home! — your eyelids soon growing too heavy and both of you afraid of accidentally falling asleep at a park at 1am lmfao

idk why but i can just see a lot of late-night dates with jake,, such as

baking cookies together at 1am???? probably has happened twice already in your relationship aha 😁

Since you both go to the same school, a lot of your little dates are actually spent there

He’s pretty shy with you at times,, but when you’re both alone it’s then that dates with him are usually so so goofy and silly; days filled with his teasing and your eye rolls and giggles.

Meeting at the rooftop before school to simply talk and giggle and drink chocolate milk? Yes.

Staying after school for small study sessions in the library? Yes.

With jungwon, you’re not able to see him as much between school and him being an idol, so every little moment together means so much to both of you ):

You’d both stay stood in shock as the cat plush is dropped into the receiving box, before laughing loudly

How did it ever come to this?

You stood on a battered roof, paralyzed by disbelief as the Colossal Titan, no Bertholdt, smashed and burned the city below. Bashing your home to dust.

Every memory, every possession, every overgrown garden and brittle house being smashed to dust.

And it was your best friend who was doing the smashing.

——- Rewind One Year ————

You and Bertholdt sat below a blossoming tree and you rambled on to him about the constellations. It was the middle of the night. You had snuck out, and he had followed. It was becoming a routine to meet here at this spot, the tree was easy to climb and you could stargaze and pretend that someday you would explore the vast world outside the walls.

“And theres Cancer! Thats my star sign.” (if your sign isnt cancer just change it lol) You looked over at Bertl with a wide smile. It was hard to tell if he cared about what you had to say, but he always snuck out to be here, so you assumed that he had to care at least a little.

His eyebrows furrowed with a thought, and you took a moment to notice not only how much taller he was than you, even while sitting down, but also how goddamn cute he was.

Wait. Not cute in the sense that you liked him, no sir. This was a one hundred percent platonic thought.

“Y/n?” You were shaken from your thoughts as Bertl gazed at you and, oh god he literally had stars in his eyes.

“Im so sorry I zoned out. Where were you?” You felt bad for mot listening, Bertl didn’t speak nearly as much as you so when he did talk you usually clung on to each and every word.

Bertholdt let out a breathy laugh, “What does it mean, that Cancer is your star sign?” His focus was on you with a concentrated, curious look.

“Oh! Well, every star sign has different traits, so to say. And Cancers are stereotypically emotional along with a lot of other stuff thats hard to define.” You waved your hand to the side absentmindedly, “I dont think someones star sign defines them, but I think its fun to imagine that fate is written in the stars”

Bertholdts eyebrows knitted together again as his face fell slightly.

Had you said something wrong?

“Well what would you define me as?” He looked away, his hand coming up to rub the back of his neck.

You were confused by his question. Where had this come from? “You mean like your star sign? Or how I see you?” He glanced back at you but didn’t respond right away.

“Y/n...” he was struggling to find the words,”what if i’m not who you think I am?” He looked back at you again sheepishly.

You took a second to consider what he said.

“Well, even if you aren’t who I think you are...” Now you found yourself at a loss of words as you let the thought of him decieving you sink in further. “Even if you aren’t who you appear, you will still be my best friend no matter who you are underneath whatever layers or facades that you have.”

He looked shocked, he obviously hadnt been expecting that. His face went red as he got (adorably) flustered.

“You never know-“

“I do know. I do know that you are my best friend. I know that you are stupidly tall like a damn tree and you turn into a human knot when you sleep and I know that even if you are a completely different person that those wont change. And neither will you being my best friend ever change.”

If Bertholdt was red before, then he was on the verge of exploding now.

And as if that hadnt been enough, you stubbornly added “I promise that you will always be my best friend, no matter who you are or how the rest of the world sees you.”

Suddenly you found yourself without air as Bertholdt pulled you into a hug. But not a casual hug. The type of hug where you feel warm and safe and you never want them to let go. The type where someone buries their face into your shoulder and you can feel every one of their emotions flow through you.

“You forget that promises can be broken though.” Bertholdt quietly muttered into your shoulder, not wanting to let go yet.

You didn’t take a moment to consider it, “Fine. Then lets make a pinky promise.”

Bertholdts bone crushing hold on you loosens, “A... what?”

You grabbed his shoulders and pushed him back gently, trying not to go red at how close he still was to you.

You grabbed his hand and gently put all his fingers into a fist except his pinky. You then took your opposite hand and mirrored what he was doing.

“Like this. Its a promise you cant break. Because its bound in the pinkies, like a chain.”

You slowly intertwined your pinkies and looked him in the eyes.

“I, y/n l/n promise that Bertholdt Hoover will always be my best friend, and that no matter who he turns out to be, that I will never go against him.” You held his gaze without blinking, focusing on the unidentified emotion on his face and the warmth of his hand.

He stays silent for a long moment and you become afraid that youve pushed too far. Your eyes softened as you looked away. “I dont expect you to make a promise.”

Bertholdt used his other hand to turn your face back to him. “I, Berthold Hoover, promise that I will someday show y/n l/n my homeland, and that I will keep them safe.”

And you believed him

You smiled brightly, “Ill let you take me home,” you wiggled your eyebrows suggestively, breaking the tension, “Only if i can show you mine too.”

Bertholdt nodded, and maybe your trust in him blinded you to the guilt in his eyes.

——- Fast forward to like a month ago idk the passage of time ———-

Titans had made it inside Wall Rose.

You had been separated from Bertholdt and the others because you went back to aid Mike. You had no weapons but you were never one to follow the rules, and in honesty, you couldn’t offer any aid you just wanted to see him destroy those titans.

But now, Mike was dead and you raced on your horse to wall rose. You had just passed through a village with a large blonde titan stranded on a building and you had saw flashes of light by the wall.

And behold, as you saw Wall Rose in the distance, you saw the Colossal Titan - at least the top half of it - perched on the wall.

You sent a prayer to whatever god existed that Bertholdt and the rest of your comrades were ok. Watching Mike get torn apart had been enough bullshit death for today.

Approaching the wall, you had no way to scale it, you still had no odm gear. You were forced to watch everyone else in combat from the ground and you felt guilty.

You heard smashing sounds on the other wall and you couldnt even start to fathom what was happening over there.

As the battle sludged on you heard a deafening roar as you opted to cover your horses ears.

You watched in horror as the Colossal titan started to tilt, further and further like a falling domino, until it crashed on the ground on the other side of the wall. The ground shook and you were nearly flung off of your horse.

How much had you missed?

As you had been hauled up the wall you were filled in on most of the information, however you were filled to the brim with confusion as you couldnt see Reiner or Bertholdt. And trust me, you would have found them by now if they were there, they stuck out like a Beefy Nacho and a Tree in a crowd.

And that day, as Bertl left you alone. You realized maybe you had been in Love with him. And that maybe those feelings werent totally one hundred percent platonic

And maybe you were stupid enough to think that he had reciprocated them.

———— Present ————-

You stood there frozen, remembering how Erwin had made you stay back with Hange, who was injured that day. Because nobody thought you were fit to fight Bertholdt.

And as you stood there among the wreckage you decided that you were definitely not fit to fight him.

You grit your teeth with tension and stress. You should hate him. Hes the reason your family is dead, and your home was bashed. He was the reason that you joined the stupid Suicide regiment instead of just selling produce like someone who actually values their life. He had taken everything from you.

Yet as you remembered those tender nights beneath the stars by the blossoming tree, you couldnt hate him. In fact you promised to not hate him for exactly this reason.

At least now you got a chance to show him where you lived. Except for the fact that he was grinding it to dust and ash. Though looking at the situation now you doubted that he had meant anything he had said that night.

You jump as a hand grabs your shoulder. You whip around and see Armin, with a determined urgent look on his face.

“The others are facing Reiner. Y/n i know how to take Bertholdt down but i need your and Erens help.” The worst part was that you couldnt refuse.

You couldnt show the others that you were having disloyal thoughts so you followed Armin to the top of the wall.

And for the first time in about a month, you stood face to face with him.

And you became weak.

Turning to Armin you came up with a lie to get out of this plan - a lie that would lead to Armin getting burned alive - “Theres not much I can do with odm gear that you and Eren can’t. Let me go help them with Reiner.”

Armin saw truth in your words, even though you sure as hell did not. You just knew that you were not strong enough to fight Bertholdt. Especially when fighting to kill.

Turning to face the Colossal Titan before you jumped off the wall, you raised your arm, with your pinky finger sticking up.

Even if he didnt keep his promise, it was your way of keeping your word. It was a new promise.

You looked down at Bertholdts broken mangled body, armless and legless and burned with titan marks. He was gonna be eaten and you couldn’t even say goodbye.

And as you watched him get eaten by Armin as a titan, you said one last goodbye to the boy who sat with you under the blossoming tree.

a/n. hihii so i wanted to try writing for ateez since ive been doing a lot of nct ff already. its my first time so i doubt that it’ll be accurate but i got the idea from this post by @darling-akaashi so i hope it will be decent. i never thought that it would be this long but oh well HAHA enjoyy :D

how did you even become roommates with someone like him? you dont even know. all you knew was that you were finding someone to share the apartment rent with and it just so happens that your friend at college, wooyoung, has a friend who was looking for an apartment.

and now here you are. a year and a half of sharing an apartment with seonghwa yet the two of you are in your separate rooms. the only interaction you ever made today was at breakfast where seonghwa cooked for you scrambled eggs and toasted bread.

there’s wasn’t much you knew about him at first. but as you slowly but surely try to accomplish your mission of getting to know seonghwa (since you didn’t like being awkward with people all the time), you start to learn a thing or two about him.

you were glad that after a year and a half of staying with him, you got to know more about him, despite the fact that the interaction between the two of you still needed some work.

[ONE] : he’s a clean freak.

you were feeling tired from a long day of school and all you thought of doing while walking home was to sit on the couch and resume your anime marathon.

you unlock your door to find seonghwa mopping the floor. you nod your head slowly as you close the door and take off your shoes before taking any step further.

“didnt you mop the floor yesterday?” you ask, placing your keys on the kitchen counter along with your bag on the chair of the dining table.

“yeah.” was all you heard from seonghwa as you pour yourself a glass of grape juice. “you dont have to mop again-“

“its a habit.” seonghwa replies simply. with your cup in hand, you make your way to the living room, where seonghwa is currently mopping. you take a seat on the couch and grab the controller to turn on the tv. “hey wanna watch attack on titans with me?” seonghwa was mopping the floor in between the couch you’re sitting on and the coffee table and stops in front of you, raising an eyebrow.

“i dont watch anime?” you furrow your eyebrows and frown. “come on its fun! stop your cleaning and at least watch one episode.” you grab seonghwa’s arm and pull him down to sit next to you, making him flinch a little and quickly placing the mop beside the couch.

“how am i suppose to watch when i dont know what happened before?” you roll your eyes.

“if you find this episode good then you can watch it from the start in your free time.”

seonghwa sighs and and stands up, walking away to keep the mop before taking a seat beside you again and getting comfortable. “this better be worth it. im suppose to clean the toilet right now.”

“that can wait.” you nudge your arm into his chest, making him let out another long sigh before watching the show silently.

[ONE.2]

it was a saturday morning as you went to sleep at 4am. hence, making you wake up at 11am in the morning. however, you have always been laying around in your bed for about an hour or so before getting out of your room. when the clock striked 12, you thought that it would be a good idea to get out of your room and have lunch. gathering up all your energy, you brought yourself out of bed and lazily walk out of your room.

as you walked down the hallway, the first thing you saw was seonghwa cleaning the counter top of the kitchen. you clicked your tongue and walked over to where seonghwa was.

“did you make lunch yet?”

seonghwa looks up at you and shakes his head. “its a saturday so im spring cleaning the house.” you rolled your eyes and shake your head.

“you do that every single day!” you whine. seonghwa raises his eyebrow. “i like to keep the house neat unlike you.” you let out a soft ‘tsk’.

you have to admit, you were not a clean person at all. the only reason why the apartment is clean is because of seonghwa’s habit of being well organised and meticulous. basically everything in the apartment but your room is squeaky clean. although you see seonghwa staring at your room and looked like he’s holding back the strong urge to clean it for you, he doesn’t really do anything about the fact that you are the complete opposite of him. you dont know why but you only shrug it off.

“ill help you today, alright? then you can quickly cook something up for us. im hella hungry right now.”

seonghwa lifts his head up from the table and scoffs with a slight smile. you furrow your eyebrows and frown. “what’s that face for, huh?”

“this is the first time you offered to help. id say thank you but i know you’re only doing it because we both know im the only one that can cook.” seonghwa says confidently. you purse your lips and nodded your head.

“you’re right. but i’ll still help. so, what should i do?” seonghwa tosses the cloth that he was using to clean the kitchen counter. you took a step back as you quickly got a hold of it.

“wash it and wipe the bookshelf.” you let out a long sigh before flashing him a bright smile and headed over to the bookshelf. while you were wiping the sides of the bookshelf, you could have sworn that you saw seonghwa looking at you with a smile and a light blush of pink on his cheeks. you pretended not to notice though, and shrug it off.

[TWO] : he’s a great cook.

you still remember the first day you came to the apartment. the first thing you see your new roommate doing was cleaning. like intense cleaning. it was late at night and you didn’t bother to even greet the stranger since you felt awkward and wanted to rest for the night.

however, at about two in the morning, you were laying down in your room when you felt the need to have a night snack. you stepped out of your room and went to the kitchen. the whole apartment was dark except for the dimly lit lamp at the kitchen. you jumped a little when you hear seonghwa’s voice coming from the living room.

“y/n?” you turn around to see seonghwa chilling on the couch with his phone. the living room was completely dark and you could only see his face from the light illuminating from his phone.

“i was just getting a snack to eat.” you said as you opened the fridge to look for something to eat. unfortunately, there wasnt anything that looked like it would fill your midnight appetite. you hear seonghwa standing up from the couch at the back and walking towards you. you tilted your head to the back and see seonghwa standing behinf you. you tale a step back.

“i can cook something if you want.”

“no no its fine i just need a simple snack.” seonghwa kept quiet for a moment as you went back to the fridge to look for food again, as if something might magically pop up. but of course nothing did.

“well i didnt think of getting any snacks when i moved in. ill make something.” seonghwa walks over to the fridge and nudges your arm, making you move to the kitcen counter and leaning your hip against it as you watch seonghwa get to work.

you were looking through your phone, distracted when you heard the noise of two bowls being olaced on the table. you lift your head up and noticed that seonghwa made yoghurt with cherries and raspberries. it wasnt your idea of a midnight snack but at this point, anything could go in your stomach.

“thanks.” you whisper softly as you drag the bowl near to you. seonghwa only hums in response as the two of you take a bite at the same time. your mouth gapes open as your head slowly tilts up from your bowl to look at seonghwa. he was casually eating when his raises an eyebrow at your weird expression.

“how.. how does this taste so good? what did you do it? did you poison it?!” seonghwa blinks at you a few times and shakes his head slowly. your forehead creases as you look at him suspiciously. “i never really liked yoghurt but holy shit.” you quickly take another bite.

“i think you’re just hungry. it tastes fine to me.” seonghwa says in a monotoned lazy manner and grabs the bowl and taking a seat at the dining table. you purse your lips into a straight line and grab your bowl as well and walking down the hallway to your room. before you open your door to go in, you quickly turn your head to the dining table.

“thanks for the yoghurt! ill wash the bowl later.” seonghwa doesnt react, keeping his eyes on his phone. you gave a weird look before heading inside. you sigh.

“its your birthday, right?” your jumped in your seat when seonghwa suddenly appeared beside you on the couch. “uhuh.. how’d you know?” you say softly, nodding your head.

“wooyoung told me. lll make you a cake or something. anything you want to eat?” you blink at him a few times, your mouth still gaping open as you were shocked about a few things. 1. he talking to you in a more open matter and 2. he actually want to make you something for your birthday.

“make me mac and cheese, please! i love the way you cook it!” you smiled brightly. seonghwa smiled back and coughed, only to return to his monotoned face. you laugh softly. you found it cute somehow.

“i wouldn’t have allowed it since its unhealthy but since its your birthday-”

“thank you!” you leaned in to hug seonghwa. the didnt hug you back, so you quickly pulled away. you noticed him blushing again, this time it was more obvious. you shook it off, despite knowing you felt butterflies in your stomach. “ill go out to get groceries then.” seonghwa stands up from the couch and heads inside his room to get ready.

you smiled to yourself constantly as you waited for seonghwa to finish making the mac and cheese. you sigh in satisfaction as the smell of the delicious food fills the air in the apartment. you tapped your feet excitedly as you had your eyes glued onto seonghwa with the pan in his hands. your face lit up the moment the starts walking towards you. you clap your hands as he places it down on the dining table.

“fuck it smells and looks to good.” you moan out. seonghwa lets out a soft laugh, making you blush just from hearing him do that. “if i made this any other day, i would’ve asked you to pay for the groceries.” you roll your eyes.

“come on dont be rude to me.” you grab a fork and spoon, bringing your plate near the pan and cutting out a slice for yourself. “thanks for the mac and cheese.” seonghwa only nods his head and took a slice for himself before the two of you ate together slowly, indulging the savoury and amazing taste of one of seonghwa’s best dishes he has ever made dor you.

you appreciated times like thae with seonghwa. alrhough not much interaction was made during meal times, you really felt that he cared for you. making meals you like on special occasions, and he’s always asking you what you want to eat, despite the fact that he might not be comfortable with the idea, he doesn’t fail to whip up a great meal. you liked that about seonghwa.

[THREE] : he’s a great listener.

you basically the worse day that day. for some reason, everything just had to go wrong. the only thing you felt the whole day were anger and sadness, more so towards anger. it was late at night yet you were still fuming in anger, only wanting to let it all out the moment you stepped into the apartment.

you unlocked the door and dropped your bag beside you and slammed the door shut. of course the piercing sound of the door made seonghwa lift his head up in an instant. you notice him laying down on the couch with his phone and usual.

stomping over to the kitchen, you pour yourself a glass of cold water. you chugged the whole cup of water fast and forcefully place the cup on the counter. you clearly felt seonghwa’s eyes on you. you look up from your cup and notice him looking shocked, his mouth gaping open slightly.

“what?” you said, running your hand through your hair in frustration.

“you okay...?” you hear seonghwa ask. “does it look like im okay? today felt as if i entered a shit hole.” you huff. you made your way over to the couch, leaving your empty cup on the counter.

“move your ass.” you hiss at seonghwa. he raises an eyebrow and gets up from his laying position, proceeding to sit up and let you take a seat beside him.

you sit down and let your body sink into the couch, laying your head back as you sigh to calm yourself down. “what happened?” seonghwa whispers, putting away his phone and turning his attention to you.

you purse your lips into a thin line and slowly looked up at him. his eyes were filled with concern and his voice was gentle too. he hasn’t been this concerned about you before.

“apparently i got my best friend to dress up all cute and fancy so that she can have a date with my boyfriend behind my back.” you scoff in disbelief, shaking your head. you see seonghwa licking his lips nervously as he nodded his head.

“a shit show if you ask me. i saw him waiting for her in front of the shop i was working at.” you grab the pillow behind you and hug it close to your chest with you digging your face into it. “just how cruel can people get?” your voice was muffled but you knew seonghwa heard you loud and clear. you felt his hand resting on your back, patting it gently.

“its fine. rant all you want.” you took a deep breath and slammed the pillow onto your lap. you felt that it made seonghwa jump a little but he never fails to keep his composure in check. you could never be like him.

the night, all you did was talk, cried and screamed your heart out. and seonghwa was there to just listen to you. he didn’t react much, but he did nod a few times hear and there to let you know that he understood what you were saying. he wasnt so affectionate that he would hug you when you cried, but it felt good to just have him sit there with you while you let out all your anger and frustration. you figured that having him as your listener was his way of showing comfort for you.

it was 4am. you and seonghwa have been drinking since 2am. why? you had a bad day and you felt rhe need to destress with some alcohol. seonghwa wouldn’t have allowed you to get drunk but he was apparently having a bad day too and felt like he wanted to get a little drunk to forget everything that day.

“dont you know how fucking stupid that is? it only happens to me. why?!” you groan as you take down another shot. seonghwa fills up your cup again.

“just forget them. they’re being idiots.” seonghwa whispers. you gap your mouth open and roll your eyes. “how can i forgot something like that?!” you shout angrily, slamming your hand on the table. seonghwa laughs in a lazy manner.

“you’re cute when you’re mad.”

“excuse me?” you tilt your head to the side, wondering if you heard seonghwa’s words clearly.

“nothing.” you shrug it off and shake your head.

“by the way..” you started off. seonghwa lifts his head up from the table and lets out a ‘hm?’

“why arent you telling me why you’re drinking? you don’t normally do this. you dont even let me drink unless its a special occasion. i rarely see you drunk.”

seonghwa raises both his eyebrows and sigh. “i had a bad day. but yours sounds worse so ill let you do all the ranting.” seonghwa starts playing with his shot glass, circling his index finger around its rim.

you clicked your tongue. “but its always been about me. you cook me my favourite meals, you do all the cleaning and you’re always here for me when im pissed. i feel bad about it..” you quickly glance at seonghwa. its the blushing again. you started to accept the fact that you had an effect on him, instead of avoiding the fact that he might have feelings for you.

“i guess im always doing those things because...” he leans forward over the table, getting close to your face. you start to grow nervous and your heart started beating quickly. you held a fist to your chest, breathing slowly to calm you down, but it failed. its the first time you’ve seem seonghwa like this. he looked... hot?

“do you know the answer?” seonghwa asks, tilting his head to the side as you watch his eyes glaze over you whole face as if he’s admiring every inch of it.

“no?” your breathing stopped for a moment when seonghwa gets even closer. this time, your noses were touching. seonghwa chuckles lowly. why did that sound so good all of a sudden?

“i know that you know. i wonder why you’re shying away.” seonghwa’s lips immediately connected with yours. you blinked your eyes rapidly as you tried to process the situation. you couldn’t hold back. his lips felt great against yours. its like all the worries that have been piling up in you have been washed away from a simple kiss.

who knew you’d get this close to your mysterious roommate? its a drastic start to a good relationship nonetheless.

Hi i havent read the books post-resurrection so im kinda lost on why you dont like phase 2 val? She was easily one of my favourite characters ever, she was flawed (and the books took time to acknowledge them) and relatable and still really admirable (intelligent, brave, loyal) and i really liked her and really appreciated that she wasn’t perfect unlike every other young adult heroines. What went wrong😢😢😢😢

Okay I'm gonna put this under a cut because I very strongly dislike phase 2 val and I know it bugs people who don't feel the same, so. Dead dove dont eat

Okay so first off, phase 1 val and phase 2 val are completely different people. literally. phase 1 val was based on an ex-friend of lardo's who used to apparently be involved pretty heavily in like, editing the books and "she'd react like this" or "val wouldn't say that", and that val she was one of my favourite fictional characters from when book one came out to the release of resurrection. phase 2 val is based on his whiny little girlfriend who likes to start shit with 14yos on twitter, and you can absolutely tell she is no longer the same person. so the long story short of "what went wrong" is "the original irl val's friendship with dirty laundry ended for whatever reason and he decided to retcon her entire personality to suit his gf"

Phase 2 Val, in my opinion:

Weak, like won't even fight back when she gets jumped bc boo fucking hoo she's so awful, bitch get up already, nobody signed up for ur pity party

Whiny. So fucking whiny. All the time. And she's the POV character so it's inescapable.

"Pacifist" but in a really pathetic virtue-signalling kind of way like "Oh, I've done such terrible thiiiiiiiiiiings I'm so awfulllllllllllll look how good I'm trying to be nowwwwwwww pay attention to meeeeeeee" kind of way, it was both boring and a massive eye roll. It's a book about magic and asskicking. Kick some ass. We're here for escapism not "realistic" whining. Yes, irl she'd be a mess. As an author it's his job to strike a balance between the "realism" he wants to portray and making his readers so depressed and done with his heroine that they quit reading, and in my case, he absolutely failed.

Everything must be about her at all times. Skug is having personal problems? Fuck him, they're about her now. Everything is about how it affects her, and her feelings, and be damned to the person actually having the problem. Fucks phase 2 val cain gives about anyone except herself: 0

Bitter and jaded. Which yeah I get why but it's like jesus christ what do we get out of reading about this? It's not even good bitter and jaded where it makes you empathise or admire her strength in adversity or whatever, she's just become a really nasty person with no redeeming features that I could see. Which? Landy outright said she's based on his gf? If your boyfriend is gonna drag ur entire personality through the dirt like that and write "you" as just a collection of incredibly negative traits...yikes.

Really ungrateful about the awesome life she leads? Which bugs me bc I fucking hate mundanity and knowing that all there is to life is fucking working and bad mental health. I would kill to live her life. All she does is moan about it. Like? Quit then. Fuck off back to being a mortal if it's that bad and live the shitty life you wanted to get away from in the first place. That way we'd get no more books, and quite honestly, thank fuck for that. But anyway, she needs to pick one, stick with it, and stop complaining about whatever she chose.

The girl wallows in self pity. And if someone else isn't indulging her enough, she'll wallow harder and louder and more obviously. Yawn.

Her POV is now so depressing to read that Resurrection literally tanked my mental health. I'm not kidding. I fell off the self-harm wagon, the suicidal thoughts came back, reading her dissociating would make me dissociate, I just did not cope whatsoever. Being in her head was just like being in my head during my worst points, and I hate myself, so naturally, I hate her too. Like I get why some people like phase two val. I get that her depression is "realistic" and that trauma does just make some people completely dislikeable and self-pitying, and if people want to read about that, then...sure. you do you, my dudes. But I live that reality, I am that person whose trauma made her a dysfunctional, isolated bitch, and I hate, passionately, having it infest the media I consume to escape.

Essentially if I wanted to engage with a bitter, spiteful, depressed piece of shit in her 20s who pushes everyone away and sucks at everything, I'd live my gd life. Yall see me tryna engage with my real life? Hell nah I'm on tumblr dot com burying my head up the ass of whatever fandom will force my brain to produce some s e r o t o n i n and that is what I need this series for

Also? The dynamic she had with skug in phase one? "Until the end"? "You save me, I save you, that's how we work"? Forget that, it doesn't exist anymore. I stopped reading after Midnight, because she was written like he was a coworker she could barely tolerate. They went from "Lardo confirms on twitter that they talked on the phone a bunch while she was in america and he'd always ask her to come home" to "she comes home and proceeds to blank him for five months while she sits in her fuckin multimillionaire's mansion feeling sorry for herself". Their friendship completely disintegrated, they were totally separated for most of the book, she's written as not giving a single shit about him. She treated him like dirt, and their dynamic basically felt like it was becoming "Local Man With History Of Gravitating Towards Abusive Women Makes Same Terrible Choices For Fifth Time" and? that was the point of no return to me. he supports her unconditionally, no matter what he's going through at the time, he's walked on broken bones to try and get to her when she was in danger, she can tell him anything and he'd never use it against her. I did not, for one second in phase two, believe she felt the same about him. tbh it felt like she could - and wanted to - drop him at the first opportunity and not even feel bad about it, and that's not the dynamic that made me so emotionally attached to phase one. i signed up for "until the end", not whatever bullshit phase two has going on.

Apparently she's "less depressed" now and their relationship is "better" in the books published since midnight, which! might well be true. but I haven't read them and don't intend to, and she's gone from one of my favourite fictional characters ever (which! was impressive! because i almost never bond with the female lead - i normally get attached exclusively to the character i crush on, which would be skug here. val was the first female lead i actually cared about since xena! so im deeply salty about losing her!) to a character i? honestly prefer to pretend doesn't exist. i live in war era dead men/generals crackship land because that way, i don't have to acknowledge her or the fuckin character assassination phase 2 pulled on her.

so yeah, no hate towards phase one val at all. phase one val was awesome and flawed and gave me something to aspire to despite my shitty mental health and trauma, and if she'd kept her original personality she might still have been those things. but the original "real life" val is no longer involved (and doesn't talk to landy at all anymore, apparently), and the val based on landy's insufferable gf? i cannot get behind her at all ever, four for skug and none for phase two val cain bye

(tldr; you're not missing anything by quitting after spx)

It’s nearly midnight on this beautiful Tuesday night, the stars are shining brightly outside of your apartment, where you are sitting on the sofa with your boyfriend Henry. Together, you’re watching one of your favorite shows on Disney+, the Mandalorian. You’re leaning against Henry’s shoulder, one hand casually resting on his thighs while he has one arm around your shoulder, his fingers gently brushing over your skin. As soon as the episode is over, you stretch your arms, yawning widely.

Henry giggles quietly and runs a hand through his scruffy beard. “What?” You say silently, leaning back against his shoulder again. He instantly embraces your body as he leans his head against yours tenderly, kissing you lovingly. “You’re so cute when you’re tired.” He growls deeply, his hand finding yours on his thighs and he intertwines his fingers with yours. “But I’m not tired.” You say smiling shyly, trying so hard to not yawn again, but it’s no use. Henry raises both of his eyebrows, looking at you suspiciously.

“Is that so?” He smirks, leaning back against the huge pillows behind you. “Then we can watch another episode?” You nod along while he grabs the remote, playing with the buttons in his hand. Barely able to keep your eyes open, you shake your head slowly. “I’d fall asleep in five minutes” The two of you share a short laugh before you drop down to the sofa, your head now resting softly on his lap. “I can see that,” Henry smirks softly as he runs a hand through your hair and starts playing with it.

Closing your eyes you completely give in to his gentle touch, feeling way too tired to move at all. “You’re really comfortable.” You whisper quietly, one hand on his thighs again, stroking him tenderly. “You’re my girl.” He says coyly, bends down, and kisses your forehead once more, making you grin widely. “I can live with that.” Carefully, you open your eyes again, catching him smiling softly while watching you peacefully. “We should go to bed,” Henry says, his voice rougher and huskier than before.

As he starts to move slowly, you just groan deeply, frowning. “I’m too tired to move. Leave me here.” Defeated, you close your eyes again, hoping that he would carry you to the bedroom as he’d always do. Before you have time to react, you feel his hands tightly around your body and he easily gets up from the sofa, causing you to open your eyes in surprise, even though that was exactly what you expected from him. At first, he just stands there, looking at you lovingly. 

“I won’t leave anyone behind.” He says confidently, heroically even. You place a hand on his chest, longingly holding on to him before you pretend to be a damsel in distress. “Oh Henry. My savior, my hero.” He smirks playfully and carries you through the living room, the hallway, and into your bedroom. “That’s me.” Henry smiles brightly as he puts you down on the bed. Instantly, you drop into it, enjoying the soft feeling of the sheets and the pillows. Luckily, you’re already wearing your most comfortable outfit and don’t have to get up again. 

You turn towards him, while he takes his shirt off, making sure you get a good look at him changing into an oversize shirt and shorts. He turns the light off, and you can sense him crawling on to the bed until he’s right next to you. Henry slides underneath the blanket and opens it widely, basically inviting you to join him. Sleepily, you get closer towards him as he wraps his arm around you, pulling you into him. “Good night.” You say, placing a single, loving, and gentle kiss right on to his lips. “Good night.” He growls, carefully stroking your arm again. 

It doesn’t take long for the two of you to fall asleep inside each other’s arms.

what was your favorite part, 1 or 2?

Honestly I loved both parts, but I’d say I loved part two just a little bit more for the time that James wasn’t under the curse anymore and LOVED Cordelia

EVERY scene that had Matthew and James being wholesome parabatai in it!!! my favourite chapter in this book was Blue Ruin, the one after Grace takes the bracelet back from James  (aside from the whispering room ofc).

what scene (or scenes) made you cry the most?

ok ngl i didnt spend much of this book crying, but the only scene that actually made me tear up was when james was dying and matthew could feel it and jesse (WHO I FUCKING LOVED MORE THAN I THOUGHT I WOULD) gave him his last breath :(((((

what scenes were unsatisfactory?

there were not enough Christopher scenes (but to be fair, even if the entire book was just Christopher it still wouldnt be enough for me)

but fr, i cant think of any off the top of my head but i’ll edit this if i do later

what made you laugh the most?

matthew!! james!! thomas!! christopher!! also some of the things Jesse said

what bored you?

this wasn’t boring, but the whole charles/alastair plot line didn’t have me very invested. I did love the alastair/ cordelia scenes tho, so it was just charles that was the problem

also no offense to james bc he was my first actual fictional crush after reading TMH/NBS but like whenever he talked about being in grace i would literally zone out lol the bracelet curse makes him so boring but whenever he isnt in the curse/ is with someone who is NOT grace i just!! love him!!

what disappointed you?

cassie honestly had me kinda shipping matthew/cordelia for a solid FIVE SECONDS there when he stepped in to dance with her after james left her standing there, but that was one of the only scenes that made me feel like they had natural chemistry (along with the scene where he drops her off at her house). I felt like the during the rest of their interactions in the book, cordelia was kind of uncomfortable, which made me really sad because even tho she has every right to feel that way, i felt bad for matthew. I kind of want him to fall for someone else completely and for it to be reciprocated. also, i just really want for matthew and cordelia to become good friends because i feel like they could have such great natural chemistry if matthew didnt love her.

what are some things that were really unexpected?

ok there’s quite a few things here so bear w me babes:

- James genuinely loving cordelia from the start. I wasn’t expecting him to naturally feel nothing for grace at all, so i was expecting a slow burn jordelia, but finding out that he actually loves her makes me so happy but the end where cordelia thinks he was just pretending breaks my heart :(((

-matthew liking cordelia lol definitely was not expecting another parabatai love triangle but i hope it doesnt last. i do think it adds to the plot and i love it, it just hurts to see matthew so emo :(((

-I was expecting to like cordelia as a character, but i ended up LOVING her so fucking much???? she’s so three dimensional to me, and it’s interesting to see how her personality adapts around different characters as people adapt around different social circles irl

-liking jesse as much as i did

-ok so james’ entire character was a surprise to me. it’s so fascinating to see how the bracelet actually affected his personality.If you recall him in The Midnight Heir from TBC. he’s like an entirely different person. i still loved him in TMH but i went into CHOG thinking that if he was gonna be like that the entire time i’d probably get over him really quickly. i was pleasantly surprised by how much i ended up loving him even more tho

-i didn’t expect oliver hayward to die and im going to stay emo about it

- Christopher is so much more clear headed than he was made out to be prior?? like there were so many scenes where he was fully there and when he defended anna to alastair i just kfdsnfkld i love him

are there characters that you didn’t like before that you like now?

yikes umm... Alastair, maybe? he’s somewhat okay to me now, I dont dislike him as much as I used to. ooh and Hypatia Vex. the only scene i remember liking her in QOAAD was when she helped out kit, ty and dru (me, going a whole TSC post without somehow mentioning kit? not possible)

are there characters that you liked before that you don’t like now?

I started CHOG ready to give Grace the benefit of the doubt, and I was surprised by how timid and shy she seemed at the start, but it was interesting to see how it was all an act and how she doesn’t have an actual personality yet. one could argue that she actually does love james, but i doubt it at this point. i dont hate her yet, even tho she IS fucking up james’ life, but she’s on thin fucking ice.

who was your favorite new character?

does new character mean completely new or just never been in a novella new? because for the first, it would be Cordelia (i LOVE her sm!!) and other wise it would be james, matthew and co. also!!! jesse!!

what places in the book would you like to visit?

that hell dimension sounds pretty lit ngl

did you like the ending?

ok so. we KNOW that jordelia is gonna be endgame. cassandra clare always takes the hardest path to get there, but when has she not delivered? it’s just a matter of waiting. so, yes, i did like the ending in sense of the plot because it was a great twist, but i also feel really bad for all of them even tho ik they’re eventually gonna be together :(((

what did you think of the epilogue?

i wasnt surprised, since we alr know that Tatiana is shady asf, but i just really wanna know how she partnered up with a GREATER demon like lol wtf. again, im really happy in terms of plot with this

what are your thoughts on the engagement?

i feel so. fucking bad. for cordelia. and james too, even tho he’s under the bracelet’s curse so he doesnt even KNOW he’s being manipulated. but i love how even through the curse, james still loves cordelia in his own way.

what did you want to see that didn’t happen?

matthew getting therapy periodt

umm honestly i just want more “merry thieves” content like i just love. all of them.

what do you wish had been resolved that wasn’t?

i really want matthew to tell james or cordelia what happened because i just need him to be loved and supported lol i want to give him a hug. 

what is your favorite pairing as of now?

jordelia!!! and lucie and jesse are kind cute rn, and i like them if theyre gonna be pining after eachother but i feel like if they actually get together i wont like the relationship as much.

which characters would you like to see more of in the next book?

CHRISTOPHER CHRISTOPHER CHRISTOPHER 

ANNA!!! i lovED reading about her she’s so badass

matthew!! jesse!! also i wanna see more of those bitchy girls lol just so we can see anna or cordelia tell them to stfu

what is one character whose death you would undo if you could?

ok i know that jesse is still very much a conscious character despite being dead but like,,, i want him to be the way he was before and also i want him to come back to life

ummm barbara? i cant really say much on this yet bc its still only the first book and when has the first book ever ended up with anyone being happy.

oh but also can we sign a petition to make cassie let matthew actually survive the series because my heart aches just at the THOUGHT of eventually having to read a scene where he dies

THE ONE WHERE GRACE PUTS THE BRACELET BACK ON JAMES. i mean obv there was no way he was completely done with grace, but i literally got so sad at that part like why HIM of all people smfh let him be happy

alastair x charles, grace x james, lucie x matthew bc neither of them actually like either imo lol

what are some theories you have for chain of iron?

- not necessarily for COI but i think matthew is gonna get exiled and turned into made into a mundane

- the bracelet will break (?)

- jesse will come back to life (like actual life) at the end of the book

-grace is gonna do something to help the main characters, making it hard for us to hate her.

what characters do you think should have gotten more plot time?

lol are yall gonna hate me if i say christopher again (also anna)
