So, are you new to Watcher?
Whether you just discovered the dudes from Buzzfeed Unsolved premiered a new ghost hunting show or you stumbled across Ghost Files without having ever seen Ryan and Shane before, perhaps you find yourself a bit lost regarding Watcher.
So here I present a not-quite-short (yet I hope comprehensive) guide to Watcher Entertainment!
What is Watcher?
Tumblr media
Back in 2019, three ex-BuzzFeed employees (Ryan Bergara and Shane Madej from BuzzFeed Unsolved and Steven Lim from Worth It) joined forces and announced they were launching a new production company and YouTube channel called Watcher. They toiled at it for an entire year and their new channel premiered on January 10th, 2020 with seven shows, the first of which was Puppet History (but more on the shows later).
youtube
They started with a grand total of five employees: the three cofounders, Brittney Lee (Production Supervisor) and Anthony Frederick (Creative Director of Post Production). Now, Team Watcher has grown to include several more people, including some ex-BuzzFeeders like Katie LeBlanc (who used to produce BFU and Worth It, today is Head of Development at Watcher), Annie Jeong (who you may know from Worth It and the Berry Boys video featuring Ryan and Shane, now a Senior Creative Producer) and Mark Celestino (cameraman for BFU, now Senior Creative Producer at Watcher).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Currently, Watcher presents a new episode of whichever show it's currently in season (right now it's Ghost Files of course) every Friday at 12 PT. Between shows, or sometimes on Wednesdays, they might air One-Offs, which are smaller, well, one off videos. Over at their Patreon you can find more content including:
Early Thursday access for Friday videos
Watcher Weekly+, a weekly talk show featuring any combination of cofounders and/or Watcher crew, where they answer fan questions and sometimes open fan mail. NOTE: for a taste of these, you can refer to their now-extinct Watcher Weekly show, formerly airing on Wednesdays over at YouTube dot com.
For higher tiers, a monthly livestream also featuring any combination of cofounders where they shoot the shit for an entire hour
Also for higher tiers, audio commentaries for select episodes
And for the highest tier, Discord AMAs with different members of Team Watcher.
Onto the shows:
Watcher has many shows. A whole lot of them. Ryan, Steven and Shane are very creative guys and it shows. When they first started, they began with a new episode of a different show every week, which was for some people very confusing. They've settled into airing whole seasons now, so after we're done with the premiere season of Ghost Files, we'll move onto a new season of Puppet History and then onto another show.
Because it's so many shows, I'll only describe the ones that are still being produced, along with the shows that premiered for the first time in 2022, in chronological order.
Puppet History
youtube
Helmed by Shane Madej, this was the first show that appeared on Watcher and the host, a puppet named The Professor (played by Shane) has become the de facto mascot of Watcher. If you liked the Hot Daga and Ruining History, this is essentially its spiritual successor. Here, The Professor leads Ryan and a different guest through a journey of a wacky historical event, while they compete to see who will become History Master. The lore gets really deep.
Top 5 Beatdown
youtube
A Ryan Bergara concoction, Shane and Ryan debate asinine topics ranging from the hottest Disney cartoon characters to top dog breeds, comparing top 5 lists and often fighting about it. When they do not fight, the duo showcases their one shared braincell. In every episode, they have a guest who knows more about the topic than them.
Are You Scared?
youtube
Also created by Ryan Bergara, Are You Scared? began as a Zoom show and evolved to being shot in person after pandemic restrictions eased. Ryan tells Shane one of the spookiest stories from the internet, and they both laugh over it. In a way, the format is similar to Unsolved, and the promotion campaigns for it are hilarious: once, Ryan pretended he'd been kidnapped by The Professor and made an entire photo shoot about it.
Too Many Spirits
youtube
From the galaxy brain of Katie LeBlanc, this was the first show shot in person during the pandemic, and also the only Friday show to feature all three co-founders. Ryan and Shane gather in a backyard to read ghost stories submitted by fans, but they get drunker and drunker every episode. They start off very normal, but by the fourth and last episode of each season, they are absolutely unhinged. By the way, the drinks? Handmade by Steven Lim himself, who turns out, is a (not) wonderful bartender. In the most recent seasons, we get an actual professional bartender, Ricky Wang, who has a very special working relationship with Steven.
Dish Granted
youtube
Created by and for the suffering of Steven Lim, Dish Granted is about love and food and friends. In each episode, Steven sets out to grant a friend of his their dream dish, even if it costs Steven his own sanity. Currently, the episode with Simu Liu holds the honor of being the Watcher video with most views. I love it, and you should too.
Worth a Shot
youtube
In each episode of this show hosted by Ricky Wang (of Too Many Spirits fame), he creates a special cocktail for a different guest. Ricky definitely knows what he is doing, and so, this show has a very soothing quality to it.
Eat Like Me
youtube
Also made by Steven Lim. Join Steven as he learns more about different cultures and/or lifestyles as he eats for one day as someone else. In the pilot season, he discovered the joys of the diet of a Korean college student, the woes of British people, and the pain of a professional eating competitor.
Pretty Historic
youtube
Created by Selorm Kploanyi and directed by none other than Sara Rubin, Pretty Historic looks at history from another point of view: beauty and makeup. It is an incredibly pretty show, the aesthetics are top notch, and it dives into really interesting subjects. I am begging for y'all to watch this.
Ghost Files
youtube
Finally, Ghost Files doesn't really need an introduction. Ryan Bergara's baby, the official successor to BuzzFeed Unsolved, and in the words of Shane Madej (to which I subscribe wholeheartedly), the perfect ghost hunting show. Only an episode and it's corresponding Debrief have been released until now, but it's so good. So different from BFU in a much, much better way, while still feeling incredibly familiar. Wow. The Ghoul Boys have done it for real.
Tumblr media
However, Watcher has a vast catalogue with even more shows than those, plus all of their one-offs. My personal favorites and recommendations to you are Weird and/or Wonderful World (with Shane and Ryan) and Homemade (hosted by Steven). Homemade particularly feels like a work of art that I don't feel gets appreciated as much as it should.
Also, I greatly recommend watching Ryan and Shane Eat Everything Boysenberry (Again): Bless Annie for doing this for us. Berry Boys 2, once again taking off at Knott's Berry Farm.
So where can I keep up with Watcher?
If you aren't following them in at least one of their social media accounts, you might want to do that:
Their YouTube official channel
Tumblr
Twitter
Instagram
TikTok
Patreon
Finally!
These are the bare essentials to getting into Watcher, but I hope it's useful to at least one person. If you have any questions, ask away! Imo, the fandom is incredibly nice and would love to help any newbie find their way through.

Scott pilgrim takes off inhabits the same artistic space as the matrix 4, or even the final fantasy 7 remake. I mean this as a good thing. It has the distinct touch of an artist that made something that defined a generation revisiting the art that outgrew them a thousandfold with more maturity and different interests.
These interests usually skew meta, they're about what drives someone to revisit something made by a past version of oneself, about the experience of suddenly gaining more influence than anyone could reconcile, where criticisms of your work (which you also, no doubt, have many) become synonymous with criticisms of your culture. If you've been here a while, you probably know (and are tired of) what I'm talking about, manic pixie dream girls and aloof average male protagonists, toxic nostalgia, pick your theme and it's a video essay title.
Imagine having every read of your 2004 funny video game-coded coming of age comic reverberate infinitely toward every direction, people saying your main character taught a whole generation of men to be self-absorbed while the exact opposite type of people rant about how your secondary lead "ruined a whole generation of women" because of hair-dye or whatever. Imagine Edgar Wright makes a movie adaptation of your cute little comic that somehow launches the careers of half of the current celebrity pantheon simultaneously. How would that change you?
Well, for one, it makes you less relatable. The truth of an aloof nerdy guy dating in his early 20s is a lot more universal than the truth of an artist in his 40s forever defined by the event horizon of a thing he wrote half his life ago. The matrix 4 couldn't stop talking about how it feels to have created the matrix. The final fantasy 7 remake can't help but to constantly examine what it means to remake final fantasy 7. It's easy to see why someone would hate that indulgent meta trend, I'll probably never write a generation-defining story, why would I care about the first world problems of someone who did? It can feel distant, and at its worst it can feel insulting. Like it's pointing the finger at the fans, whispering 'you did this to me'. I get that.
I get that, but I love it.
It's the fundamental difference between wanting something that is like something you liked, and wanting someone that is from the same creator of something you liked. The difference between feeding the mona lisa into an AI and finding a new authentic da Vinci. You can't make something entirely new if you religiously stick to using the parts of something that's already there. The human behind the work will always have influences you didn't realize, thought patterns and aesthetic preferences that weren't entirely clear in their previous work, no matter how much you deconstruct it. More importantly, the human will also change, and this organic self-continuity will reflect on the art. I don't want the creator of something to hold their own creation with the same zeal as its fans, because someone who did that simply wouldn't have been capable of creating the original piece in the first place.
I don't want a product, I want art.
Scott pilgrim, the original, indulges the most earnest impulse we have-- that of self-mythologizing, of creating a narrative off of our own lives. To depict the mundane as fantastic, interpersonal relationships as adventures. It resonated with so many people because it was earnest, and it was also picked apart to hell and back because it was earnest. Its flaws were on display, and not just the ones it intended to show. But in my opinion, the opposite impulse, that of washing off everything that could be criticized and presenting the cleanest possible image of yourself through your art, is just... bad. it makes for bad art, or it just freezes you. The very first hurdle of creating anything is getting over that, then maybe the spotlight will fall on you. If it does, you'll get everything you ever wanted, but everyone gets to see through you.
So, how do you revisit something like that? You have two options. Either you take all the pieces and try to reassemble them exactly how everyone remembers it, signing your name as a formality, looking at a mirror in which you no longer see yourself, or you talk to it. You dialogue with your own work, with who you used to be. You travel in time and talk to yourself. You question them, acknowledge them but also teach them a thing or two. You don't respect the product, you respect the feeling. You find the same earnestness that made you put pen to paper for the first time, and you point it towards your new loves and fears. Maybe you make it less about the main guy, take the chance to develop your secondary characters, maybe you give the girl more agency. Maybe you summon the future and refuse its answers. Maybe you fight yourself.
That's the harder choice. It submits your new self to the scrutinizing eyes of a whole new generation, it risks alienating the people who identified with your previous piece. It's riskier, probably less profitable, and by any pragmatic lens probably a bad idea. But it's the only way you can make art. It's truth, the truth that got you there in the first place.
It's how you get it together.

The long bezzle
Tumblr media
Going to Defcon this weekend? I’m giving a keynote, “An Audacious Plan to Halt the Internet’s Enshittification and Throw it Into Reverse,” on Saturday at 12:30pm, followed by a book signing at the No Starch Press booth at 2:30pm!
https://info.defcon.org/event/?id=50826
Tumblr media
When it comes to the modern world of enshittified, terrible businesses, no addition to your vocabulary is more essential than "bezzle," JK Galbraith's term for "the magic interval when a confidence trickster knows he has the money he has appropriated but the victim does not yet understand that he has lost it"
https://pluralistic.net/2023/08/09/accounting-gimmicks/#unter
The bezzle is contained by two forces.
First, Stein's Law: "Anything that can't go on forever will eventually stop."
Second, Keynes's: "Markets can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent."
On the one hand, extremely badly run businesses that strip all the value out of the firm, making things progressively worse for its suppliers, workers and customers will eventually fail (Stein's Law).
On the other hand, as the private equity sector has repeatedly demonstrated, there are all kinds of accounting tricks, subsidies and frauds that can animate a decaying, zombie firm long after its best-before date (Keynes's irrational markets):
https://pluralistic.net/2023/06/02/plunderers/#farben
One company that has done an admirable job of balancing on a knife edge between Stein and Keynes is Verizon, a monopoly telecoms firm that has proven that a business can remain large, its products relied upon by millions, its stock actively traded and its market cap buoyant, despite manifest, repeated incompetence and waste on an unimaginable scale.
This week, Verizon shut down Bluejeans, an also-ran videoconferencing service the company bought for $400 million in 2020 as a panic-buy to keep up with Zoom. As they lit that $400 mil on fire, Verizon praised its own vision, calling Bluejeans "an award-winning product that connects our customers around the world, but we have made this decision due to the changing market landscape":
https://9to5google.com/2023/08/08/verizon-bluejeans-shutting-down/
Writing for Techdirt, Karl Bode runs down a partial list of all the unbelievably terrible business decisions Verizon has made without losing investor confidence or going under, in a kind of tribute to Keynes's maxim:
https://www.techdirt.com/2023/08/10/verizon-fails-again-shutters-attempted-zoom-alternative-bluejeans-after-paying-400-million-for-it/
Remember Go90, the "dud" streaming service launched in 2015 and shuttered in 2018? You probably don't, and neither (apparently) do Verizon's shareholders, who lost $1.2 billion on this folly:
https://www.techdirt.com/2018/07/02/verizons-sad-attempt-to-woo-millennials-falls-flat-face/
Then there was Verizon's bid to rescue Redbox with a new joint-venture streaming service, Redbox Instant, launched 2012, killed in 2014, $450,000,000 later:
https://variety.com/2014/digital/news/verizon-redbox-to-pull-plug-on-video-streaming-service-1201321484/
Then there was Sugarstring, a tech "news" website where journalists were prohibited from saying nice things about Net Neutrality or surveillance – born 2014, died 2014:
https://www.theverge.com/2014/12/2/7324063/verizon-kills-off-sugarstring
An app store, started in 2010, killed in 2012:
https://www.theverge.com/2012/11/5/3605618/verizon-apps-store-closing-january-2013
Vcast, 2005-2012, yet another failed streaming service (pray that someday you find someone who loves you as much as Verizon's C-suite loves doomed streaming services):
https://venturebeat.com/media/verizon-vcast-shutting-down/
And the granddaddy of them all, Oath, Verizon's 2017, $4.8 billion acquisition of Yahoo/AOL, whose name refers to the fact that the company's mismanagement provoked involuntary, protracted swearing from all who witnessed the $4.6 billion write-down the company took a year later:
https://www.techdirt.com/2018/12/12/if-youre-surprised-verizons-aol-yahoo-face-plant-you-dont-know-verizon/
Verizon isn't just bad at being a phone company that does non-phone-company things – it's incredibly bad at being a phone company, too. As Bode points out, Verizon's only real competency is in capturing its regulators at the FCC:
https://www.techdirt.com/2017/05/02/new-verizon-video-blatantly-lies-about-whats-happening-to-net-neutrality/
And sucking up massive public subsidies from rubes in the state houses of New York:
https://www.techdirt.com/2017/03/14/new-york-city-sues-verizon-fiber-optic-bait-switch/
New Jersey:
https://www.techdirt.com/2014/04/25/verizon-knows-youre-sucker-takes-taxpayer-subsidies-broadband-doesnt-deliver-lobbies-to-drop-requirements/
and Pennsylvania:
https://www.techdirt.com/2017/06/15/verizon-gets-wrist-slap-years-neglecting-broadband-networks-new-jersey-pennsylvania/
Despite all this, and vast unfunded liabilities – like remediating the population-destroying lead in their cables – they remain solvent:
https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/verizon-sued-by-investors-over-lead-cables-environmental-statements-2023-08-02/
Verizon has remained irrational longer than any short seller could remain solvent.
Short-sellers – who bet against companies and get paid when their stock prices go down – get a bad rap: billionaire shorts were the villains of the Gamestop squeeze, accused of running negative PR campaigns against beloved businesses to drive them under and pay their bets off:
https://pluralistic.net/2021/01/30/meme-stocks/#stockstonks
But shorts can do the lord's work. Writing for Bloomberg, Kathy Burton tells the story of Nate Anderson, whose Hindenburg Research has cost some of the world's wealthiest people over $99 billion by publishing investigative reports on their balance-sheet shell-games just this year:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2023-08-06/how-much-did-hindenburg-make-from-shorting-adani-dorsey-icahn
Anderson started off trying to earn a living as a SEC whistleblower, identifying financial shenanigans and collecting the bounties on offer, but that didn't pan out. So he turned his forensic research skills to preparing mediagenic, viral reports on the scams underpinning the financial boasts of giant companies…after taking a short position in them.
This year, Anderson's targets have included Carl Icahn, whose company lost $17b in market cap after Anderson accused it of overvaluing its assets. He went after the world's fourth-richest man, Gautam Adani, accusing him of "accounting fraud and stock manipulation," wiping out 34% of his net worth. He took on Jack Dorsey, whose payment processor Square renamed itself Block and went all in on the cryptocurrency bezzle, lopping 16% off its share price.
Burton points out that Anderson's upside for these massive bloodletting was comparatively modest. A perfectly timed exit from the $17b Icahn report would have netted $56m. What's more, Anderson faces legal threats and worse – one short seller was attacked by a man wearing brass-knuckles, an attack attributed to her short activism.
Shorts are lauded as one of capitalism's self-correcting mechanisms, and Hindenberg certainly has taken some big, successful swings at some of the great bezzles of our time. But as Verizon shows, shorts alone can't discipline a market where profits and investor confidence are totally decoupled from competence or providing a decent product or service.

"Nimona" fandom informational rundown
New to the fandom and a bit confused about things? Hopefully this will help!
Tumblr media
Nimona was a webcomic by Nate Diana Stevenson/ND Stevenson that was first shown on tumblr on December 14, 2011, and Nate later launched it as an official webcomic on its own website on June 19, 2012. It was contracted for publication post-completion as a graphic novel sometime before November 1, 2012. The webcomic finished online publication on September 30, 2014. Shortly afterward, most of the webcomic was taken down as part of the contractual agreement for publication as a physical graphic novel, leaving only a short bit of the opening as a preview. The website for the webcomic later went down entirely, and is no longer accessible.
The comic was published in entirety as a single graphic novel on May 12, 2015. The movie adaptation rights were sold to Fox in 2015, as well, and the project was given to Blue Sky Studios. The comic was later adapted into a full cast audiobook on October 4, 2016. The graphic novel is available for purchase in paperback, hardcover, and as an ebook, and the audiobook is also available for purchase. (The link has international seller links). The graphic novel has been translated into 16 languages. It is also available in a special edition English hardcover via Illumicrate. They only ship from the UK, but ship internationally, and you don't need a subscription to buy the book. As the standard graphic novel and audiobook are ~7+ years old now, if you have a local library, you can see if either of them are available that way.
Disney bought 20th Century Fox Animation (later 20th Century Animation, the purchase completed in 2019), but later shut down Blue Sky Studios in 2021, cancelling the still-in-production movie. Crew worked on shopping the movie around for a new home after talks with Disney. The movie was later picked up and completed by Annapurna, DNEG, and Netflix, premiered June 14, 2023 in France, showed in select theaters starting principally on June 23, 2023, and released to general audiences on Netflix for streaming on June 30, 2023. I have more info on this here.
Tumblr media
In English, Nimona is voiced by Chloë Grace Moretz, Ballister Boldheart is voiced by Riz Ahmed, and Ambrosius Goldenloin is voiced by Eugene Lee Yang.
If you're looking for official merch, the movie soundtrack is up on multiple platforms, including YouTube, iOS, Spotify, and Amazon, and a vinyl version of the soundtrack will be sold by iam8bit. There is an official humanoid Nimona plushie, a whale Nimona plushie, and a shark Nimona plushie, available via Netflix, Gee, and Hot Topic, as well as a variety of official shirts available via Hot Topic and Amazon (just search Brand: Nimona). Nate also still sells "Nimona" comic art on his INPRNT store.
Netflix released a free-to-read digital-only multimedia 358-page artbook for the movie (but took it down in March 2024). (It's also been released at least for crew/friends of crew(?) in physical release, so maybe it'll get mass release as a hardcover). Outside of this, a lot of the crew for the movie from both Blue Sky and DNEG have been releasing a ton of concept art and development stuff, and the cast and crew have been doing a lot of promotional interviews and videos going back through like April 2023, so there's a lot of material to look through on YouTube, tiktok, tumblr, twitter, Instagram, Facebook/Meta, and Vimeo, as well as various news and media sites. Nate is active on tumblr, his personal blog, twitter, and Instagram. Annapurna, DNEG, and Netflix also have multiple accounts on many platforms, including their own websites, YouTube, Facebook/Meta, and Twitter, and have been sharing clips and behind the scenes stuff.
Nimona actually has been added to a video game: Nimona was included as an event companion in SharkBite 2, a Roblox game.
If you're looking for fanworks, the fandom is active on most platforms, and has been ever since Nate started posting early art of the characters. Nate's talked at length in multiple places about how big the fandom was during the webcomic's publication. Mostly back then folks were very active in the Disqus comments on pages, which are a bit harder to find these days. There's a lot of the older comic fanart still circulating in different places (particularly tumblr, where the fandom was most active), some of which Nate reblogged. There is crossover between the comic and movie fandoms, as many fans of the comic love the movie and vice versa, and both fandoms are quite active. There is at least one active subreddit and fanwiki (and many others on assorted fantasy, comic, movie, and non-English language sites), as well as TV Tropes pages for both the comic and movie adaptation and a number of Discord servers.
For fanfiction, there are a ton of fics on Archive of Our Own in the comic tag and in the movie adaptation tag. There are also a number of fics on tumblr, some fics on fanfiction.net, and some on Wattpad. There are fanvids on tiktok, Instagram, and YouTube. There is fanart on tumblr, twitter, deviantart, instagram, and pixiv. There are cosplayers, meta analysts, roleplayers, music makers, and many other fanworkers
Some tags to use/browse for posts on tumblr and other sites:

IMAGES: Fly the new USAF stealth bomber, the B-21 Raider

USAF's new B-21 “Raider” flying wing bomber made its first flight on Friday, the next step in the launch of a new fleet of nuclear-capable long-range stealth bombers built by Northrop Grumman.
The B-21 left the Northrop facility at U.S. Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale, California, at sunrise on Friday at 6:51 a.m., offering the first improvised view of the new bomber that was developed under strict security.
Tumblr media
The aircraft went to Edwards Air Base, California, where it will continue with the flight test phase with USAF. The flight lasted about 90 minutes.
With the Cerberus callsign, the aircraft took off eastward with an F-16 companion plane after climbing about 500 feet. The landing gear was not collected, according to videos and photos that appeared on social networks.

U.S. Air Force leaders did not disclose the first flight of the B-21, but about three dozen aviation enthusiasts and amateur photographers gathered around Plant 42 on Friday in the hope of seeing the bomber rise to the skies.

The B-21, which carries the same "flying wing" format as its predecessor, the B-2, will be able to launch conventional and nuclear weapons around the world, using long-range and in-flight refueling capabilities.
The aircraft are projected to cost approximately $550 million each in 2010 dollars, or about $750 million in current inflation-adjusted dollars. However, the USAF kept other price information confidential, “which makes it difficult to validate the proposed cost,” the Congressional Research Service said in a 2021 report.

The U.S. Air Force plans to buy at least 100 planes and start replacing the B-1 and B-2 bombers. The B-1 costs about US$ 60,000 per hour to operate and the B-2 costs about US$ 65,000 per hour, according to Pentagon data.
Ann Stefanek, USAF spokesperson, said: “The B-21 Raider is in flight tests. Flight tests are a critical step in the testing campaign managed by the Air Force Test Center and the 412ª Combined Test Wings B-21 Test Force."

Six test aircraft are being produced now. They are being built on the same line, using the tools, processes and technicians that will build the production aircraft.
Tumblr media
Northrop defeated a team composed of Boeing and Lockheed Martin when it won the 2015 contract to manufacture the bomber. Engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney, Collins Aerospace, GKN Aerospace, BAE Systems and Spirit Aerosystems are among more than 400 suppliers in 40 states.
The B-21 was publicly presented in December 2022, but the expectation around its first flight had been growing for years.
In 2019, an important Air Force general suggested that the bomber could fly as early as December 2021, but the Force subsequently postponed this date to mid-2022. In early 2022, the USAF postponed even more until 2023.
The B-21 program is in the engineering and manufacturing development phase and the first aircraft will be delivered to Ellsworth Air Force Base in North Dakota.
Tumblr media
Northrop is calling the plane a sixth-generation aircraft due to its ability to connect to other aircraft and easily integrate future weapons into its systems architecture.
Tumblr media
The B-21 also features surface material with low observation, more durable and stealthy, which should require less maintenance and reduce operating costs and downtime.

Did WME/Netflix soft dump the harkles? by u/alreadydoneit01
Did WME/Netflix soft dump the harkles? With the recent flurry of articles/activity, I am wondering if WME/Netflix soft dump them. They release what should be major news-two new shows-but not a whimper from netflix. If Netflix was launching them-wouldn't they announce it , with ads etc? it was announced by people magazine0Harkles favorite go-to . I really wonder if Netflix has greenlit these projects or is this madame trying to force their hand-like she tries to force the BRF's hand and fails! She launches her grand reveal-a stupid website called ARO with grainy videos, no products, no posts, nothing. Then she launches it on Diana's event-right before William's speech. Who does that?? No sane person would do that.I just don't think if WME is involved, they would allow such a stupid launch-no products, crappy website, grainy videos reminiscent of 90s slasher/horror films, no posts. These things would be planned to the nth degree and they represent a whole host of celebrities who do such business deals. It just makes me wonder if Netflix/WME are done and are soft walking the rest of the contracts and then they can be dumped without controversy. post link: https://ift.tt/9xH2LtO author: alreadydoneit01 submitted: April 12, 2024 at 04:21AM via SaintMeghanMarkle on Reddit disclaimer: all views + opinions expressed by the author of this post, as well as any comments and reblogs, are solely the author's own; they do not necessarily reflect the views of the administrator of this Tumblr blog. also special thanks to Luca, for helping with my writing playlist, this fic wouldn’t be here without you
Tumblr media
You looked at the women before you and how they clinked their glasses together and mumbled in French about the men around them.
You were so bored at this table, even though you had the translator by your side who kept you company.
You had been a fashion influencer since the pandemic hit with the help of Instagram and Tik Tok. You were so grateful for all the experiences you were able to get through your platform and with the help of your supporters, but now you were just bored and it wasn’t even nine.
Even after being on the cover of various magazines and modelling for famous companies that you had only dreamed of possibly being able to buy any of their products, you could not comprehend how you made it into YSL’s beauty event in Paris for the launch of Dua Lipa’s Libre perfume.
You wore such expensive clothes that you couldn’t identify your usual self. You felt so expensive. The jewellery, the makeup, the little black dress, they all helped you feel like that. It was a moment that you only used to dream about.
Your hair was bound at the back of your neck with a black bow, and your dress was almost see-through, a soft flowy fabric that reached your mid-thigh. The sleeveless dress, only held on your shoulders by thin straps, didn’t help your chills due to the open windows. The weather was not the best in the city of love. And the river right under the balcony was not helping either, so you sat right by the door and tried to focus on the good part of all of this. The experience
Your thighs and high boots were the ones that helped in any way.
You played with your rings, hoping to calm your anxiety. It was still early and there were still a lot of people due to come, from artists to designers from all around the world.
Even with a still-growing fanbase of 10 million followers on Tik Tok, you feel small among such great people.
Your glass of champagne was almost empty and looking at it made you even more anxious about the whole thing. You looked at it for a long time and then rose from your place to start to walk around the place.
Looking at everyone who was either smoking or taking pictures on the balcony, you thought you would do the same, but you felt tired. You took your pictures when you arrived; they just needed some editing and would be ready to be up online tomorrow, but some videos were soon to be filmed for your Tik Tok. Regardless, everything else was solved, and all you had to do was enjoy your time, sip some champagne, and find some interesting people to talk to.
"Single and ready to mingle," you murmured to yourself as you approached a young man carrying a tray of champagne glasses. You thanked him with the only phrase you knew in French, nodded and started walking around the place, trying to not look lost.
With a glass in your hand, you just decided you should just stand somewhere you weren't in anyone’s path and took out your phone and started to record around the place, right when two men walked in with another one at their heels.
They looked flawless, right out of a magazine. They acted calm. Nothing could disturb them, not even the photographers that started to call them in certain places to get a good picture of them.
You didn’t know any of them, but you were captured by their natural beauty. They seemed out of a fairytale. Both of them were dressed fully in black, as most of the people present there were. One of them wore a black shirt with a low cleavage and silver buttons that climbed down his torso and met at his waist with a black belt and pants. His shoes helped him gain some height but didn’t make him look bad.
The other one... he was the one that took your breath away when you looked into his eyes, just for a moment. You felt it down in your bones that he would be the talk of the night. He had a strand of hair that hung right over his eyebrow, while the rest of his hair was pulled back by gel.
It felt like his clothes were just there. While usually with designer clothes, they wore you, you didn’t wear them. He was dressed so simply, but he still stole the breath of everyone who even dared to look his way.
The man paired a black suit jacket with a simple shirt and suit pants, all of the same colour. The boots he wore were maybe as tall as his friend's, and they helped him gain everyone’s attention. A great number of accessories adorned his body, be it piercings in his ears, the small necklace around his neck or the YSL brooch on his chest pocket.
In every picture he did, he wore a smirk on his face that could make your feet turn into jelly. He smiled at you, somehow feeling that you were watching him carefully. That happened while he moved his eyes off of you, but not only after giving your whole body a head-to-toe scan. He stared for more than a second at your neck, an act that made you reach for the necklace there and hold it, somehow wanting to cover your exposed skin from his sight.
You held your phone close to your chest when someone came to you to ask you something in English, and that took you out of your dreamy moment with the handsome stranger.
Tumblr media
The night was still young and everyone was drunk.
Your possible fifth glass of champagne was on the table. You had given up on it long ago and were waiting for the dessert to come so you could leave because your head started to throb and your feet hurt.
The flight you took to get here had a four-hour delay, and the beauty sleep you could’ve taken in your hotel room’s bed, you took in a make-up artist’s chair. Everything hurt, and the jet lag started to get to you.
The dance floor was in full swing though; you would’ve joined if everything didn’t hurt and you were more drunk. But a headache plus a sleepless night plus jelly legs didn’t equal something good, so you were satisfied with watching from the sidelines.
You took enough pictures to even start a scrapbook about this experience or even spam your feed for weeks to come, but you couldn’t do that. Your fans would get bored easily. But the pictures were good, the videos were incredible, and you would soon have to once again either buy more cloud storage or delete old stuff, maybe cooking videos off Tik Tok.
You were starting to get hot. As the sky darkened and the party unravelled, the liquor was poured and the temperature inside the penthouse skyrocketed. You went from being extremely cold to being incredibly hot.
So, in hope of taking a breath of fresh air, you went on the balcony, hugged your arms in hope to protect yourself from the chill Parisian air and admired the city in all its splendour. At night.
"Are you okay with taking a picture?" Someone put a hand on the small of your back while saying that in small, broken English. You turned to them, confused, and came face-to-face with the same man you had been thinking about the whole night.
"I’m Hyunjin." He gave you his hand as a way to introduce himself and slightly bowed, showing respect through his culture.
"Y/N L/N."
He now stood before you just the same as before, maybe a hair in a different position, but everything was the same. He was perfection; you couldn’t understand how he could manage that.
You looked at his eyes, dark brown, and realised you couldn’t identify the pupil from the iris.
Possibly your long silence made him confused about your attitude and whether or not you understood what he said. So you regained yourself and managed to smile and give him a small "Yeah, yeah, of course."
The other boy introduced himself as Felix in the same manner and offered to take your picture.
The hand he put on the small of your back made you focus on trying to stay calm, and the only way was to focus on the red phone in his hands and focus on the apple logo on it.
You tried to smile as much as you could, and before you could register what was happening, the man behind the camera asked you: "Would you like me to take a picture with your phone too?"
You looked at him long and hard and shortly realized that the moment you should have had your phone on you, you didn’t.
"I didn’t bring my phone with me. Can you airdrop it to me if there isn’t any problem?"
"Yes, yes, sure." He moved to start typing on his phone. You stopped him by saying.
"Aren't we taking pictures too?" You asked his friend, who shook his head in reply, smiling and spoke to his friend in another language, possibly asking him to take the picture.
Right before his hand was placed on your waist he introduced himself as Felix.
You were even more sensible now. You had him before you. You could look at him with no problem, and admire him with no one asking what you were doing. The time spent by his friend’s side was short; it felt like seconds. He was either incredibly good at taking pictures or you were too lost in your head.
He nodded and gave you the phone to look at the images while he started talking to his friend in their, possibly, native language.
You should’ve learnt more languages when you had the time. Maybe one would’ve helped you identify what they were talking about. Scrolling through the dozens of pictures on the phone, you realised that, fortunately, your reverie state couldn’t be identified in the picture.
"Like any of them?" he whispered right into your ear, and you felt every hair on your body rise. You raised your eyes from the phone screen, and right in front of them were his lips, chapped but still soft looking, the bottom lip bigger than the top one. While trying not to seem creepy by looking at them, you moved to his eyes, dark pools that called you in, to lose yourself.
You tried to compose yourself by putting some space. Luckily, his friend left while you were looking through the photos. You didn’t need to make a scene here. There were cameras everywhere and even if you didn’t know him, someone else might have and it could have caused a scandal. You coughed shortly and handed him his phone.
"If you can wait right here, I will be right back shortly," you said, trying to get to your table as fast as you could, but without seeming like you were excited about going back to the stranger. Not a stranger anymore. Hyunjin. A name that seemed as special as him. You hoped you could understand the meaning behind it someday. But at that moment, you had to get some pictures of him and enjoy his alluring presence more.
When you made it back to the balcony, he was looking at the shining river with his arms on the balustrade and his legs crossed. When he heard your heels, he turned and gave you a smile that you could bet was something he didn’t share with everyone else.
You typed on the screen, and when you finished setting your phone for the airdrop, he silently asked for it by extending his hand. You placed it in his palm and watched him type a number in it, clearly doing something else.
"You can call. I have a special plan with my provider because of all the recent traveling," you mentioned while he took the other phone out and pressed the green button, and only seconds after you watched your number appear on his phone.
"You could've asked for my number, you know?" You joked and he shook his head, somehow embarrassed.
He said, "Not good with talk, sorry," he said, and thought for a while before he started to talk again.
"Want to walk... me and you?"
"You want us to go for a walk? Around the city?" You tried to help him arrange his thoughts into sentences
He nodded in reply, telling you that was exactly what he wanted to ask and silently waited for your approval for such an activity.
"Okay, let me just take my things and we can go."
Tumblr media
The door loudly closed behind you, but you didn’t care at all because you had a man that smelled expensive in your arms. Your nostrils loved his smell. You adored everything about him.
After walking for an hour down the Seine, you bought ice cream from a corner shop that was open 24/7. The cashier cursed both of you for the noise you made while deciding who was going to pay for your products. And you laughed some more and stopped in the proximity of your hotel, which turned out to be his too. But the remaining ice cream in your hands made you choose to walk some more. At some point, drops of cream were coming down your chin, and he moved to wipe it, a movement that led to him touching your lips and smearing some of your lipstick.
The streets were then not as loud as they were during the day, but you stood on the sidewalk and not even a car honk could break you out of your trance.
You weren’t shocked when your lips met his. You had a feeling that everything that had happened that night would lead here. To him in your room. His mouth on yours. His taste is on your tongue and his perfume is in your nostrils.
The material of his jacket was soft to the touch, but you easily got rid of it, and it fell on the carpeted floor silently, while your tongues danced like they had known each other their whole life.
Your dress was long gone when your back met the chilly bed sheets. While your body was covered only by high-waisted pants and black stockings, he was almost in a full outfit.
His lips were exploring your skin and playing with your nipples, and yours were letting deep breaths and moans leave them. His hands were all over you, on your bottoms, legs, and calves. You felt like he was everywhere.
His skin was fair; no tattoos or hair covered it. He felt like a sculpture. He looked like he belonged in a museum, not on stage, not on the streets of any city, not even Paris.
When his mouth met your core, you thought you were in heaven. Even his tongue moved with the precision of a dancer, of a painter. His hands continued to cover every inch of your skin, now fully exposed to the air. You didn’t care what else was happening outside that room. You didn’t care about the possibility of someone seeing you spread out on a bed and enjoying your life to the fullest. The lights from outside didn’t blind you when you opened your eyes.
And when his lips met yours and his hips met yours, you felt like flying. He was fully in your bloodstream. You could swear right there right then that you were his and nobody could take you.
Coming off a high was not the end; it didn’t feel in any way like the end; it felt like a promise for more. A promise to come back to this place, fall again, and live. Because you felt alive. You felt out of this world. Your heart was beating too fast while his lips lazily moved over your skin, somehow painting it in his own paint.
Sleep caught you in its grasp slowly after that. His voice lulled you to sleep while he tried to pronounce your name the right way or learn how English words are really said. You couldn’t fully remember the last thing you heard.
But you were sure that the next morning, the bed was empty, your skin was filled with goosebumps, and your phone was filled with pictures of him all around Paris.
And you realized that that night was the best of your life.
Just because of a little black dress, as he told you before he kissed you the first time.
"You know what was the first thing that caught my attention about you?" he asked, milimetres away from your face.
"What?"
"Your little black dress."
thank so much for reading. a like, reblog and comment would be highly appreciated. hope you enjoyed it and i would love to hear your opinions about this.

Hi! I can’t answer for N but for myself, I do writing on the side and then I do social media for companies around my area. Some of it requires me be there for events, going in to take photos/video, writing blurbs for product launches, answering reviews etc. it’s kind of a freelance thing since I’m not in an agency but it’s nicer that way for me. So writing does have a play in it for the way I write captions/blurbs/ descriptions etc.
I’m also working on a book to put on kindle/epub. Something non fanfic to try and see how I’d like to do it. The problem is I am indecisive and like have 3 diff plots to work on at once bc I get bored/antsy. So that will be a stream of income at some point but the social media is less demanding than N’s job, hence why I’m able to write much more
