Chooser of the Punched

A Valkyrie and the Howling Commandos fic. Which may or may not be a genre I just created.

This is a fill for @marveltrumpshate 2022 auction! The prompt was Steve and Valkyrie punch some Nazis. Obviously this involves Valkyrie on a mission with the Howling Commandos.

Thanks to RoseRose for the beautiful vision that inspired this piece, and illogicalkat, KerrAvonsen and the rest of the crew for joining in the madness. Thanks to @booksandabeer for the beta.

Excerpt:

“Who are you, speak quickly,” the man says. “Seriously now, get talking. We ain’t afraid to shoot a dame, even if she is wearing an Ike jacket,” another man states. She lazily glances up from the work of her nails. The man in front is wearing some kind of blue combat uniform. He is pretty, Valkyrie thinks, skipping her eyes over his figure. His golden hair is shorn short and his pale face is shaved. The trim hair and bare face with full lips and big blue eyes give a delicacy to his broad warrior’s figure that Valkyrie would not mind playing with. He seems to be carrying a very large serving dish, gaudily painted with a star and bright red concentric circles. Strange custom, but maybe on Midgard the leader of a troop carries the ceremonial food dish for post-battle feasting.

34. Thorn (suggested by @ultramarine-spirit)

Warm red drips against the rose thorns, a prick of pain from her fingers as she plucks the roses left and right. She ignores the numbing in her heart as she continues picking at the flowers, at the white roses. It was a calm before the storm, a storm contained within her as she grasps at the thorny flower.

Pluck. Pluck. Pluck. One by one, she drops the roses as if it were a game — would the white rose be dyed pink, stained by her own blood brought about by thorns? She halts, coming across the familiar figure in the distance.

Or… perhaps she won’t succumb to those thorns, and the white petals will leave unscathed.

6. Tears

It started on a whim, but Lucas couldn’t help but feel like that wasn’t entirely right, and he wasn’t willing to look deeper into that thought. Granted, it was an honest truth to say that he wanted to know if she would end up crying herself to sleep when the moon rises, and she finds herself alone in her room. The unknown fact of that matter bothered him, irritating him in a way he couldn’t quite understand.

Her attachment to her father was a strange thing, but it was none of his business, nor did he want to stick his nose in. His curiosity was enough reason to pop into her room, though, curious to see if the normally strong-willed girl would crumble when she thought nobody was around.

Instead of tears, he gets a pillow thrown at him (and a harsh interrogation from the princess in question regarding his reasons for being in a girl’s room late at night).

Roses were considered a cliché flower when it came to romance, but it genuinely was Athanasia’s favourite flower. Soft velvet petals in a beautiful pattern — whether it be the scent of roses or the flowers itself, she found it enchanting.

When her father gifted her a rose garden after asking what her favourite flowers had been, she jumped for joy with stars in her eyes as she promptly hugged her father. It was a perfect garden to relax in, with a large tree in the middle of the garden casting a shadow on the warm sunny days — a perfect reading spot, as it was near one of her many personal libraries.

She just didn’t think her father would give her more than just one rose garden after that…
