Seven(+1) Sentence Sunday!

This lovely Sunday morning I've been tagged by @duchessdepolignaca03, @kiwiana-writes and @myheartalivewrites, thank you all!

I've also posted my third chapter of good neighbours which means I'm halfway there! (see tumblr post here !!)

And so I'm sharing a new snippet of a later chapter here!

Alex is truly so kind to offer to help him build his new bookcase, but Henry’s worried about him getting heat stroke. “Really, Alex, it doesn’t have to be done today. The books can wait a few days, I promise.”

“Nah, I know how much you love sorting and alphabetizing and seeing all your books organized. It’s not a big deal, H, really.” Henry opens his mouth to try and dissuade him from continuing and to instead relax, maybe offer him a cool glass of iced tea. But before a sound could escape, Alex grabs at the hem of his shirt and promptly pulls it over his head, making every single thought escape Henry’s brain instead. Just when he thought it couldn’t get any hotter, Alex had brought the temperature of the entire apartment up a few degrees.

Seven Sentence Sunday

Hi! You might've noticed my header's absence—that's because @littlemisskittentoes made me this lovely moodboard for my F1 rivals-to-lovers fic which I'm writing for the big bang, and which I'll be sharing a snippet of today.

Also, thanks to everyone who tagged me Wednesday! I didn't quite get it together to post, so I'll be thanking y'all with the rest of my tags below the cut.

Alex opens his mouth, though how he plans to respond, he’s not certain. Before any words come to mind, though, his phone slips through his hand, bouncing onto his shoe before landing on the tile between them. Alex kneels down to pick it up, momentarily saved from forming a reply. His brain’s still coming up empty, though, when Henry speaks again. “You might as well suck my cock while you’re down there.” Alex whips his head up to make sure he didn’t just imagine those words coming out of Henry’s mouth. He’s prevented from pinching himself when Henry adds, “It’ll be good practice, looking up at me.”

“Alright, so penis fencing is the-” Henry is going to die. “The-” Alex chokes back a laugh, brushing the curls back from his forehead. Henry just stares at his fingers, long and delicate. “The - it’s this mating-” Alex wheezes, snorting like the air’s trapped between his mouth and his lungs and he can’t do anything but keep rambling. “Hen? Any help?” “Er…” His voice nearly shakes, and he holds back the tide. “This is your domain.” “Mine?” “Yes, you’re the definition dude!” The words evaporate like rubbing alcohol and Henry thinks, Oh, god. Oh, god. Focus, he tells himself. He may have the shakes, anxiety teeming beneath his skin and he slept poorly last night, but he can take a swig of pure adrenaline and let go of that, can’t he? “Um…” Henry stutters.

wip wednesday!

thanks @priincebutt for the early tag! I just posted recently and that'll probably be all y'all get from me until after I've DEFENDED MY DOCTORAL DISSERTATION!?!?

but in the meantime here's a @aroyallybigbangrwrb snippet that is the lead up to maybe my favorite smut scene I've ever written :)

“So nothing you can’t miss?”  “If he didn’t take attendance, I’d skip.”  “Interesting.” At Henry’s tone, Alex risks another look over at him, and that dark smirk has definitely returned. Something sinister is flirting around the edges of Henry’s expression, tantalizing and sexy and quickly pushing Alex back toward hot and flustered.  After a pause, Henry speaks again. “And I’m assuming that, as is typical, it’s only that little window of you that your classmates can see? And that you are visible but muted?”  Confused as to why Henry is suddenly so interested in the mechanisms of Zoom, Alex blinks at him. “Uh, yeah. They can’t see me otherwise, and they can’t hear me unless I choose to unmute.”  Without another word, Henry stands and takes a few steps toward Alex, looking like a goddamn Calvin Klein model in the middle of Alex’s apartment. He pauses a few feet away, and just when Alex is about to ask him what he’s doing, Henry smirks and drops to his hands and knees and crawls toward him.  He pushes gently on Alex’s leg when he gets to him, and Alex scoots his chair back, trying to figure out what in God’s name Henry is doing when— Oh.

“And what about you?” “What about me?” “You’re gay, you only like men.” “Alex, let me take care of my own labels,” Henry explains calmly, his tone slow as he allows every word its own time, as if that could engrave them in Alex’s mind. “And let me tell you that I will still love you, that I do still love you. It doesn’t matter who you are, or who you are not.” Alex takes a deep breath, letting his head fall pressed into Henry's shoulder as one of the other man’s hands comes to rest on the back of his head. “Okay,” Alex breathes out, “okay.” or a non-binary!Alex fic and the way they discover something about themselves.

Well, hell. May as well schedule this for midnight because who knows what my actual Sunday holds.

Once again, some sentences from my @aroyallybigbangrwrb fic, (The Only Truth) Everything Comes Back to You:

Henry wakes to the bright morning sunlight streaming into the bedroom through the window, blinking a few times before clamping his lids shut again and turning onto his other side, reaching his hand out when he feels the other side of the bed shift. His mind expects to meet Alex's smooth skin, warmed from the sheets and sun, but instead his fingers meet soft fur and Henry opens his eyes again to find Alex gone, with David having made himself comfortable in the empty space. Henry releases a long sigh, though he's more numb to the disappointment that wants to take root in his chest. It's not the first Saturday he's woken up to an empty bed. Knows it won't be the last. He takes a moment and allows himself to listen for signs Alex is home, but the brownstone is quiet and still, save for the sounds of David stretching beside him.

WIP WEDNESDAY

my dearest little eggs, today I have a small snippet of Sweater Weather, which is my @aroyallybigbangrwrb fic this year!!

Childhood friends to long distance fake but not really lovers over letters ;)) just what we need (oh and it’s a college sports au too)

He has spent a great deal of time recently doing just that. Sometimes, like now, when the dying grass waves golden in the August afternoon, and the cicadas hum the soft melody that only comes around every seventeen years, Alex can’t ignore the flip-flop of his stomach and the way the sunshine seems to sit atop Henry’s head like a halo.

“Shut up, man” is all Alex can eek out. It doesn’t matter though, because Henry smiles, shaking his head, walking forward to drag Alex into a hug.

He knows it isn’t a permanent goodbye, but just one for now. He is reminded of Winnie the Pooh and the emotional turmoil of the line “How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” He knows Henry would appreciate the sentiment as a sap, but he isn’t about to slice the heart on his sleeve clean off to present it on a platter for intimate dissection.

Later that evening, he calls Bea for their weekly FaceTime chinwag. He gets to see David, which is often the highlight of his day, though he did see Alex in those grey joggers today so David’s got stiff competition. He won’t be sharing that with Bea though. He does, however, tell her all about how Alex had fixed his drawer. 

“This Alex fellow sure seems to be at your flat quite often, Hen. What’s happening there?” she inquires, waggling her eyebrows at him. 

“Nothing’s happening. He’s my neighbour and he was doing me a favour, Bea.”

Preview:

Alex flings an arm out in the direction of Henry’s voice, managing to find fabric and fist a hand into Henry’s lapel. Henry squawks in a satisfyingly unroyal way when Alex yanks him forward and they slam bodily together in midair. He holds him close as they somersault through the blackness. Henry’s breath is warm along the side of Alex’s face.

“Oh, my,” Henry whispers when swirls of color begin to emerge from the dark around them. “How peculiar.”

The colors coalesce into shapes that should never be in a hospital closet. Instead of red EXIT signs or utility lighting, there are glowing toadstools and lightning bugs and, strangest of all, a white rabbit hopping down the tunnel as they fall.

...Or, the "Alice in Wonderland as an allegory for the closet" AU fandom needs :)
