any thoughts on the keys from finnegrin?
Tumblr media
I love how they represent tdp's recurring threes, keys, and children's games motifs in "Bait and Switch."
The alliteration and the meter of "Squid, sails, and a hammerhead's tail" evoke a children's nursery rhyme. Ezran recites this rhyme to solve the "riddle" of the locked door to Finnegrin's office, while playing a trick on Finnegrin and stealing his secret treasure from him.
Plus these keys just look heckin' cool.

hello! i wanna know more about what you mean here. i haven’t seen anything of the sort, but i can’t keep up with all the theories/meta and i’ve only been here since a bit before s5. i asked around and others i know are active in the fandom also haven’t LOL. So what do you mean by what we already knew, or this idea in general? i would really like to know more about it, it’s very intriguing. :)
Tumblr media
Hello self-spaghettification! Finally getting around to this
It probably would have been better of me to say "founding/establishment of katolis as we know it", which is what I meant. I haven't done a personal deep dive into tdp lore myself, but I'll give you a summary of what I know!
So let's start with the Orphan Queen:
Tumblr media
The orphan queen, even in her logo (revealed at a SDCC in 2019), is tied to the sun primal. We know she had the cube, and we know that she had the cube before Aaravos was imprisoned (and potentially even before Aditi went missing). There is a lot of symbols/iconography that overlaps between the Sun Fire Elves and Katolis (the "double tower" motif on katolian and sun fire elf swords, the double square motif, etc.)
In s3 opelia briefly mentions "we have laws viren. Only an orphan can ascend to the throne" (I'm paraphrasing lol). In s4 we get a lot of good information from Zubeia, who summarizes the events that lead to Aaravos' imprisonment, which happen to involve the Orphan Queen and someone from the original Katolian lineage:

So I hope this helps!

what do you reckon will happen in season 6 or when aaravos gets out?
This is a hard call to make, as besides Zubeia's claim, we don't know what Aaravos endgame is:
Tumblr media
(This is one of the reasons why I had to scratch my head at people who went "S4 took all the mystery out of Aaravos" because it's like - okay then, tell me what he wants? And we just don't know lmao, especially in a show that always gives villains pretty clear goals and motivations.)
However: nothing good, plainly. There are three main things regarding Aaravos I think the show needs to answer in terms of "getting out" stage.
What is his overall goal? Domination, destruction, both, etc, and what does that conquest look like? We know he wants to "shatter" everything the Startouch elves hold dear, but what that means for Xadia and the rest of the Pentarchy isn't clear
Where will his base of operations be, i.e. where will he go once he's out?
Where are his forces going to come from? Even if Aaravos is ultra powerful, he's still just one guy, and there's a Lot of characters (the main cast is like, six people and Katolis and New Aurea have their armies) that are going to be involved in his take down. So I'm assuming the show will give us a visual manifestation of either something Aaravos can conjure (think something like shadow assassins) or give them legit followers he amasses in order to like. Have visual fight scenes and something going on for everyone to participate in when it comes to the final battle
Now I think just number one, and making it even more clear that Aaravos does not care about the damage he does (i.e. Lux Aurea, the human kingdom armies) on his way to getting what he wants is important, showing that the "worse than death" element to him is very true (and much much worse than Viren). I think we're getting there, but something tangible - more information on both sides of his pawns, with Callum and Claudia uncovering things (and perhaps Terry developing reservations because of it) is where I could see it going in S5. After all, we want to know exactly why it would be such a Terrible Awful Horrible Thing if he got out precisely before it happens, don't we?

My immediate I-just-finished-watching-Loki-episode-4 reaction post
There be spoilers ahead.  Oh damn there be spoilers!
Okay.  Firstly, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
Secondly, that was awesome!
Thirdly, so many things!  In no particular order…
Did they just create the Kang problem?  By spagettifying Timely near the Loom did they just somehow seed the multiverse with Kang variants who know more than they should?
“I don’t know”. Agh!  What does this mean! Why is this important to Loki?  What has he just realised? “What’d we do wrong?” “I don’t know”.
The time loop scene was just beautiful! I loved how they cut to Loki from the past and it took me a couple of seconds to realise that wasn’t our present Loki. (Not that I’m complaining, I could happily watch him running desperately through the TVA for a long time lol.) I’d had a feeling the show was going to tie back to the time slipping thing more strongly in this episode so had just rewatched episode 1, for which I am very glad. Made following things a little easier. But it was also great to be able to more closely compare the scene to the on in my memory from ep 1.  I totally thought it was going to be Loki on the phone too though, so that it was OB was almost a disappointment lol!  I’d thought perhaps it was going to be a future version of Loki making the call at that time to bring his past self to that location to be pruned. But unless things are even more convoluted than they appear it seems it wasn’t a call from anyone with that purpose in mind.
The music that starts playing as present Loki realises what’s going on and makes the decision to prune his past self – is that the beginnings of a heroic theme for him!?  Eeeee!  (I feel like it’s going to be my deathbed wish to see Loki straight up play the hero in something, lol!)  Even if not, the music here was great!  From tense and creepy to determined and uplifting!  I didn’t notice it on first viewing, it was just there unconsciously guiding how I felt, but clearly being very effective!
Tumblr media
So. That ending eh? OMG! I was NOT expecting that!!!
I was genuinely shocked at the spaghettification.  And then how quickly the Loom went critical and that they actually showed us how everyone handled their last moments.  Mobius disbelieving, Sylvie and OB quietly resigned, B-15 terrified, and Loki, with tears in his eyes, facing death head on.  Lmao.O does that count as another death for Loki? *cackles madly* Also, so THAT’S what that shot from the trailer was from.  No wonder he looked so… much.
Tumblr media
And then OMG!  The flickering lights! That was so well done!  Now you’re gonna laugh, but my TV and living room lights regularly flicker and the TV turns off. Something about the wifi and picking up signals from phones and alarms.  For instance it always turns off at 9pm when my alarm goes off.  So you can imagine why it took me watching the final scene three times before I was convinced it wasn’t a technical glitch at my end.  LOL!
I love how it’s tied in with the flickering of the lights in the TVA itself. And I love how it works as a symbol for a glitch in time itself – which is what I assume these events have caused.  And the music over the end credits – good lord I still have shills! It’s all so very wrong! Like reality is disintegrating. Like a Dali painting. It’s sooo uncomfortable!  And so very, very, well done!  Such a fantastic blend of the show with reality!  Agh! I love it!  I also love that this is something new, something I’ve never experienced in film or TV before and it’s going to stick with me for life.
So did Timely sabotage things, or do something other than what OB was expecting? Or was he just bluffing with Renslayer? Did he volunteer for the reasons he said, or was he planning something? I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I’m just… not… sure.  Did he intend for that to happen to him?  Or did he miscalculate? Or was everything played straight?
I’m sympathetic towards Timely.  The trouble is we haven’t seen him for long enough to really know who he is. In the brief time we’ve been shown conflicting things – he’s a confidence trickster, but he seems harmless enough in the scheme of things. His wonder at all the things in the TVA (including the hot chocolate machine) are very endearing.  He seems genuinely scared of… well… pretty much everyone at some point (except OB), and the way Loki and Mobius show him trust and are kind to him is sweet. But then he hadn’t really been around the TVA long enough for us to see what sort of schemes he could think of to work to his advantage, so perhaps it’s just a matter of time.
So where to from here?  I can see why they showed the press up until this point, and I can see why some of the reviews talked about how episode 4 turned things on it’s head.
I’m going to assume that episodes 5 and 6 are about Loki working out how to fix things. Or maybe not quite fix, but at least not completely destroy. I feel like things at the TVA won’t be the same by the end of the season.
Something makes it so that Loki starts timeslipping again, and into the branched timelines too.  Or is it perhaps just along his own timeline?? We’ve heard him asking how they could do things differently, so I assume that’s what he’ll be trying.  Maybe many different attempts.  Maybe all of those in the room are now unstably jumping about within their own timelines.  I don’t know, but there certainly look to be lots of super cool possibilities!  I half expect the start of the next episode is Loki opening his eyes to find himself in another place/time, and then working out wtf is happening.
Also, we’ve been working on the premise that Timely is a variant, but what if he actually is He Who Remains? What if HWR is in a permanent time loop? (That is of course assuming that Timely somehow didn’t actually die. Or at least not permanently.)
I think I might have to stop thinking about it there or else I might go mad. *cackles*
Some other things:
OB learning everything from Timely!!!  OMG!  I didn’t expect that but I love it.  That was never fully explained, was it?  Does someone take Timely’s TVA book waaay back into the past? They were as cute as imagined in their meeting.  Part of me is still sad they never signed each other’s copy of the TVA book.  But if Timely’s book goes back to OB then it couldn’t be signed by OB I suppose.
Renslayer and Miss Minutes going outright evil.  Well at least I know what side of things she’s on now, I guess. I’m glad they never showed us the results of the machine, because the expressions of those watching was terrifying enough.
Dox defending B-15’s integrity was great. I should have known she wouldn’t live after that.
Nice to have the memory erasing confirmed.
Interesting convo between Sylvie and Mobius. I thought that was interesting and reflected their experiences and positions well.  I really feel for Mobius. I think I’d probably react similarly to him and just not want to know for fear of it being better than the life I knew.  So I have a lot of sympathy for him, but I can totally see Sylvie’s point.  But sometimes you have to narrow your scope of caring to survive.
Loki and Sylvie’s conversation in the Automat may actually be my favourite interaction between them so far.  Loki seemed to be more confident in himself.  He wasn’t trying to please her or desperate for her to do/not do something. It seemed a more mature conversation where he recognised there was no right answer, and was prepared to walk away rather than try to convince her, and equally, she didn’t just push him away or run herself. I might actually be starting to buy the fact that these tow have a history of some sort.
The fact that OB can reset the TVA’s system and enable magic to be used within the TVA – and Loki and Sylvie’s shouted response – Brilliant!!!  I feel like that’s going to be significant later on.  I mean it did allow Sylvie to enchant X-5, so maybe that’s the payoff already, but maybe it also allows Loki (or Sylvie) to do something bigger in that brief window if he’s jumping through time again. I wonder f also it’ll turn out that some other people in the TVA will turn out to be magic users? (I’m assuming not Mobius because of the 90’s and jetski thing, but maybe?)
So I had really quite low expectations for this season.  As I’ve said before I didn’t like several fundamental things about season 1, but we’re 4 episodes in and I am *almost* confident enough to say that most of those are absent from season 2. Or at least so far.  They key thing being Loki’s characterisation – it’s still not entirely consistent with OG Loki, but it’s no longer excruciating to watch him clown about. There are still a few moments this season that have been beyond my comfort zone, but 90% of the time he’s been more assured and has been treated seriously by the show.  He’s also been the driver of events and the eyes through which we see things more than in the first season. And I am so thankful for this.
The tone of this episode is more aligned with episode 1, but that makes sense because it’s both more similar in topic and by the same directing team.  And given Episode 1 was my favourite before this, I’m more than happy!
There’s still a couple of episodes to go, but 4 episodes in and I’ve gone from, ‘yeah, I’ll watch it but only out of curiosity and some weird lingering sense of obligation because I’m a Loki fan’, to ‘this is actually potentially great and I can’t wait to see what happens next’.  Which has been a bit of a shock.  Lol!  I’ve been a Loki fan for too long to have the confidence to call it yet, but I’m leaning more towards the optimistic end of ‘cautiously optimistic’.
Okay, my mutuals and anyone else who wants to discuss – what did you think?  :D
Tagging a few folk since I’m a day or so late.  But please let me know if you’d rather not be tagged (or would like to be added). @sparklegemstone @pinkpondofasgard @woodelf68 @galaxythreads @ladyofthestayingpower @scintillatingshortgirl19 @projectprotectloki

Okay Loki S2 E5 Reaction/ Review Time
SPOILERS AHEAD BEWARE
"Science / Fiction"
OH MY GOD THAT TITLE
I cant believe I was right about all of them being scattered across different time line branches, Loki having to get his friends back and them not having memories of him :O
Also the fact that the fans predicted Casey to be a dangerous / criminal because he was always so gentle in the TVA and then we see him breaking out of freaking Alcatraz?! And the fish references too XD
B15 being a Doctor was so freaking wholesome, she really just wants to help people whetevee she is :D
OB being a Scifi Author and Scientist was just perfect XDDDD
AND WE FINALLY GOT MOBIUS ON A JETSKI THIS IS A WIN FOR THE FANDOM
And again, the fact that the fans immediately predicted that Mobius was a (single) dad in his life, because they spotted a couple toys in front of the house in the mid season trailer :D
(I could literally hear the fanfiction authors melt into a puddle at the potential of Loki x single dad Mobius XD)
And the fact that he isnt just a Dad, no he is a SINGLE FATHER of TWO SONS
The freaking parallel of Mobius' two sons and young Thor & Loki?!
One being a lil mischievous prankster and the other (most likely the older) one who has to keep him out of trouble?! And the fact that he said he loves snakes?!?! That is just straight up a Thor reference?!
No wonder Mobius knows how to deal with people like Loki XD
But as much as I like the parallel of the two sons, I also feel kinda weird about what it could imply for Mobius, like does that mean he is supposed to be a mirror or opposite of Odin? A version of a dad that didnt mess up with their parenting? That this is why Loki feels drawn to Mobius? Is that what we were supposed to conclude from that?
I know we joke about Loki liking older men, and of course Loki has his daddy issues, but if Mobius is an opposite of Odin then what does that mean for Lokius?
Now to some more lore related stuff:
Can I just say that the spaghettification effect is absolutely terrifying?!?! (as stupid as it may sound) Seeing people get spaghettified fills me with just as much dread as the Dusting from the Snap, but it is so much more horrifying because it looks so brutal compared to how "gentle" the Dusting effect is....
Then Loki & Sylvie's talk about being selfish, about their own wants & needs
"Whats wrong with wanting sth?" -  she asks Loki, but in reality, has Loki ever gotten anything he truly desired? (At least L1130 hasnt, man went straight from the Events of Thor 1, to Thanos to the New York attack, he was never able to mend his relationship with Thor or find friends...)
Now... Sylvie, she still frustrates me.... I do get that she wants a life, but you cant just stab or ignore your way out of everything... plus their world is still ending as a matter fact...
It literally took her fav lil branch getting wiped out, to realize that she was wrong, that Loki was right all along, and that was AFTER she had just convinced Loki to give up his quest... because "wanting his friends back" would make him just as "selfish" as her wanting a life... But the difference is, that while Sylvie would chose her life, instead of helping fix everything, ignoring the casualties it brings, Loki would be self sacrificial enough to give up his own needs, which he literally was about to do, until Sylvie got back because she finally wanted to help avoid the impending doom that threatened to destroy them all.
I think we all kinda knew Loki's drive wasnt necessarily saving the TVA, but wanting/ needing his friends back and wanting to keep them save, but Loki actually admitting that he "wants his friends back, that he doesnt want to be alone"
THAT BROKE ME
Especially with the motive of "no one deserves to be alone" but the Lokis only ever having themselves to find comfort, and if they tried to change that, the TVA showed up to prune them, loneliness was literally what drove Classic Loki out of his hiding and into the arms of the TVA.
And Loki saying "Without them (his friends), where do I belong?"
I didnt know it was possible, but that broke me even more... he just wants a place where he is wanted and safe...
Then the time slipping, Loki being able to Control it?! IS THAT HOW THE MCU INTRODUCES LOKI BEING A WORLD WALKER?!
Loki realizing "Its not about the when, where or why. Its about the Who" (god that part was so sweet, right in the FEELS, it was so over for me, my heart cant take much more of this)
And finally Loki chosing to rewrite "The Story"... actually "Play God" thats now full confirmation of Loki God of Stories right?! RIGHT?! I wanna see my boy, God of Stories Loki is one of my Fave Lokis :DDDD

So I have an idea, this one I might potentially make and it's not related to the Lokius AU I mentioned earlier!
What if AU... Loki time slips back again and again to try and understand science, engineering & physics with the intention of fixing the Loom, but after centuries of doing this and failing every time, Loki is exhausted and he can't help himself... At some point, he goes back in time to see Mobius on his previous timelines (e.g.- pie moment). Or even goes back to see Don - Mobius's sacred timeline self, again... and again...
Tumblr media
And maybe when Loki goes back to see Mobius in his own timeline, the spaghettification happens much more rapidly, but when he goes to meet Don, he finds that the so-called 'Sacred Timeline' doesn't deteriorate as quickly as when he is in the TVA.
So when he needs some emotional support or feels so lonely and needs to see a familiar face to talk to, he goes back to see Don on the day he met they met.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And every time, it's like a reverse version of '50 First Dates' where Mobius doesn't know him, while Loki has gone through their same conversation multiple times and has already memorized it by heart.
And after centuries of repeating the same thing over and over, Loki has become an expert on how long a timeline lasts before the spaghettification happens (maybe he has a day or a few hours at most).
Depending on how rapidly the spaghettification occurs, or how slow it is, Loki spends as much time as possible to be with his friend. Sometimes he would change his narrative on their first or second meeting so that he is indeed there to buy a jet ski (or the one Don tries to sell him at his house) and rides it, perhaps even asking the handsome Don on a date.
But the more he goes back in time to be with Don, or with Mobius... it takes a major toll on Loki, who remembers every memory he has with the men while they don't remember him.
Ultimately, Loki knows he has to say his goodbyes because he is getting attached to a dream he could never have and knows he is getting sidetracked from his true mission to save his friends and fix the loom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So in the end, he goes back to Don one last time, a final farewell date. And he also goes back to Mobius as well, knowing this will be his final farewell to his beloved man as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bonus: Another What if AU - What if Loki finds a way to save Don's timeline from spaghettification (somehow), and therefore he spends years being with Don to the point where he marries Don and becomes the second father to Don's kids (this is a bit like a Wandavision with Wanda creating her own family).
Loki knows it's selfish because he wants to be with Mobius or Don in any form or shape and yet has a mission to do, but he also doesn't want to be alone and this causes him to stay longer than he should have, perhaps to the point where Mobius grows old (he's revealed some part of himself, such as him being a Norse god) and watches the boys grow into teenagers as well.
He lives a normal life, but the guilt eventually takes hold. Loki knows that this reality is not real, he had made this construct for himself because he was in a vulnerable place after having tried and failed to fix the loom a thousand times to no avail. And he goes back to his mission, knowing that someday he will be able to see Don and the kids again... just not physically with them.

Hey, I noticed a while back you did a tales of xadia info post on moonshadow elves did you/are you going to do posts of any of the other elf variations anytime soon? 👀 like earthblood elves maybe
I have not but I am definitely down to! I did Moonshadow elves mostly because it's 1) useful to have on hand without dragging out my copy of ToX and 2) for the shared story between them and Katolis. If people send in requests I'm more than happy to post more stuff <3
