standing by and waiting at your backdoor | chapter 8
Bzz.
Bzz.
Pidge could’ve sworn she set her alarm to only wake her up on weekdays.
Yawning, she blindly pawed for her phone on her bed with one hand while the other reached for her glasses, pushing them up her nose as she turned on the screen.
Keith: @Pidge i’m at your place
Keith: your mom let me in
The cram session.
Right.
Letting out one more yawn, Pidge got off her bed and headed downstairs.
Mom was absently humming in front of the stove, her song accompanied with the sizzles from the pan and the burner, to which Pidge let out a contented sigh at the smell of frying bacon.
“Morning,” Keith greeted from the table. In front of him was a stack of pancakes from which he took three of on his own plate, along with two eggs and a few strips of bacon.
“He said he didn’t have much for breakfast,” Mom said. “Lucky for him, I already finished the batter when he arrived.”
Keith only nodded at her as he chewed, then gestured to his head before swallowing. “You might wanna fix the bedhead.”
Pidge rolled her eyes but put her hair up with the tie on her wrist as she walked into the kitchen. She greeted Mom with a kiss on the cheek and grabbed a plate and utensils from the cupboards and the peanut butter jar from the fridge.
And even with Mom busy in the kitchen, it was still oddly quiet.
“Where’s Bae-Bae?”
“Matt took him with your father to the lab.”
“Traitors,”
Mom chuckled. “You know our boys,”
“Yeah, yeah,” And it was when Pidge sat down that she realized Keith was giving her a strange look.
“What?”
“You’re wearing earrings.”
“Yeah, had to reopen the piercings for prom.” She took four pancakes from the stack. “I thought you were gonna stop at Shiro’s first?”
Keith shook his head. “He didn’t reply so I figured he was in the shower when I texted.”
Pidge opened the peanut butter and put a generous dollop on the top pancake. “Don’t you have a spare key?”
“Yeah, but I had to drop these off here anyway.” He reached down to his feet and produced a six-pack of Red Bull which he set on the table with a soft thud.
“Holy shit,”
“Language,” Mom warned before turning around. “Are you going to consume all of that?” From the look alone it was clear she was hoping the answer would be no.
Pidge glanced over at Keith. “We’ll try not to?” she offered.
Her mother sighed. “Fine. But you know the consequences if I catch you awake and making noise in the garage at three in the morning again, young lady.” Then, facing Keith, she added, “Make sure to monitor her consumption?”
Pidge snorted, thinking back to the six-pack of Quintessence Canned Coffee she kept in a cooler at the bottom of her closet that matched the one Keith kept in his locker.
The boy only blinked. “I think I’m the last person you should be asking that.” He picked up a strip of bacon before adding, “Leave it up to Shiro. He should be here in a few.”
“Oh?” Mom asked, turning to Pidge with a raised brow.
“So are Hunk and Lance,” Katie said too quickly for her liking. “Grinding before the Championship and all that.”
“I see.” If Mom was disappointed with the answer, she didn’t show it. “What time are they coming over?”
Keith rummaged into his pocket to pull out his phone. “Lance and Hunk said they’re already on the way and asking if we want anything from Sal’s.” He turned to Pidge. “I’m guessing you want an iced latte with hazelnut?”
“Yes please,”
“How about you, Doctor Holt?”
The stove turned off just as Mom turned around. “I’ll get the same as Katie but hot. Oh, and tell Lance and Hunk everyone’s drinks are on me.”
“Thanks, Mom.”
“Thanks, Doc.”
Keith and Pidge said in unison, to which Mom only smiled. “And don’t forget to get something for Shiro. He should be over any time now, yes?”
She didn’t even bother being subtle as she glanced at Pidge with what was essentially signaling with her eyeballs.
Pidge heaved out a sigh but quickly polished off the rest of her breakfast before going upstairs.
Best friends or not, she did not want to be in her pajamas while they were over and risk any blackmail material.
(Right, like that wasn’t the only reason she wanted to get dressed for the day when all of her friends already had hundreds of blackmail worthy photos and videos from Junior Year alone.)
Pidge also hoped that by dressing for the day it would hype her up, both for the studying itself and the looks she’ll no doubt be getting from Mom while Shiro would be in their house for the first time in weeks after only showing his face to just Pidge.
         Shiro: Keith’s already there right?
Speak of the devil .
The sight of the private message notification on her screen made Pidge look out her windows and, sure enough, Shiro was standing in the middle of his room.
And, as if feeling her glance, he looked up and waved.
Pidge rolled her eyes and replied.
Pidge: yep and he helped himself to breakfast
Pidge: there’s plenty to go around if you want
         Shiro: sure, sure
Shiro: just gathering my things. be at the door in five.
Pidge looked up to wave goodbye before closing her curtains and getting ready.
And without really thinking about it, Pidge ended up adding a few extra hairpins into the sides of her head as she fixed her hair, if only to avoid ending up with someone else brushing the stray locks away.

sweet! i like how you can juggle between your fandoms, lance was so cute and i love how keith was protective. klance was definitely a nice ship, it had so much content in fanfics and fanart compared to the other ships. shidge though hmm, pidge and shiro? i would self insert into pidge in that ship lmao. do you have a favorite klance fic?
I'm a fandom lurker haha I don't usually interact with people and I don't have a vld moot at all, even before the show is over. I have my high school friends who I used to watch with whenever the season came out but we both stop watching for a while because the story is just a mess. Honestly, I feel like I already forgot their canon dynamic because though I can see it on the surface, people have various interpretations of them that it's so fun to find out whenever I read them and that's exactly why I still stick around. I have preferences but I don't feel an obligation to stick to canon and lore unlike rntn and I treat them almost like I treat original works. I say I'm more a part of the kl fandom because the fandom thrives on its own and there are so many interesting fics out there.
If there's one that stuck to me, I guess it's On Thin Ice by anonimina

Reprogramming Computer: Shidge Fanfiction, post s6
“How is it possible that the paladins are alive?” Haggar’s mouth twisted into disgust as she looked over her shoulder. The champion had set the virus. She was sure of it. The druid stood there, uneasy and unsure. “We have word that it was the green paladin,” he spoke in a low tone, trying his hardest not to show his fear of the witch. Haggar hesitated, deep in thought. Out of all of the paladins, the green one was one of the ones she knew least about. Only that her brother and father had both been prisoners. Her brother had been one of the first defeated by The Champion. “Bring her to me.”

Hold Me Close
Rated PG (very mild themes of PTSD and fear of abandonment, probably the fluffiest angst/angstiest fluff you can read)
1000 words (exactly! I added some more descriptive stuff to make that count)
Takes place sometime between Greening the Cube and The Blade of Marmora (s2 ep4-ep8)
They/them pronouns for Pidge
Enjoy! (and please leave a comment if you liked it! I don’t bite!)
Stale air…the stench of hot metal and unwashed flesh…flashes of light…the distant screams…
Shiro jolted awake, sticky with sweat. His breaths came short and hard, as if he had physically run from his nightmare into the waking world. Shaking, he swung his legs over the edge of the firm barracks mattress, planting his bare feet on the cool floor. He combed his fingers through the short scruff of hair on top of his head, tangling them in his bangs as he attempted to slow his breathing.
This was nothing new for him; his nights were often filled with fitful sleep or none at all. Just gotta calm down, he told himself, closing his eyes, Maybe get some training in before the others wake up. But before he could settle his racing heart, he heard a knock at the door.
“Shiro? Are you okay?”
Shiro’s attention snapped to the door, his eyes wide with surprise.
“Pidge?”
“I’m coming in!” Pidge announced, their voice firm but clearly concerned. The door slid open and Pidge rushed inside, pale-faced and sweating almost as much as Shiro himself.
“What happened?” they demanded, “I heard you shout. Are you hurt?”
“It’s okay, Pidge, I’m fine,” Shiro asserted, though his voice wavered, threatening to betray his delicate state, “Go back to bed. I-it’s nothing.”
Pidge frowned, quickly scanning Shiro’s rough appearance. Without a word, they turned back towards the door. Instead of leaving, however, they punched the wall panel, closing the door.
“What are you - “ Shiro began, but Pidge interrupted,
“I don’t need to know everything but you don’t have to lie to me. I thought we were friends.”
“…we are friends. I just…I don’t want you to worry about it.” Pidge crossed to the bed, in as few strides as their short legs would carry them, and roughly sat next to Shiro.
“Too late,” they spat, “I’m already worried.” Shiro sighed and hung his head, resting his forearms on his knees.
“I had a nightmare, okay?” he admitted, “I get them all the time; it’s no big deal.” Pidge’s expression softened.
“What do you mean ‘all the time’?” they asked, “Like, every night?”
“Every night that I actually sleep.” This struck a nerve with Pidge, forcing them to reevaluate their approach. Tentatively, they reached out to touch Shiro’s shoulder. Shiro refused to look at them, but did not pull away.
“Honestly, I haven’t had a full night’s rest since I left Earth,” he revealed with a hint of embarrassment, “The first time.” Pidge slid closer to him on the bed, moving their hand to the base of his neck.
“I’m sorry…I didn’t know.”
“That’s because I don’t want anyone know. What kind of leader would I be if everyone just saw an exhausted trauma survivor?”
Pidge stared off towards the floor of the small room, struggling to think of what to say. They were never good at empathy; most of the time when they thought they were being reasonable, others saw selfishness and tactlessness.
We’re all made up of the same cosmic dust…
Of course…Maybe if they related on a personal level?
“I hardly sleep myself,” they shared, “I’d rather keep busy if I can’t sleep instead of just staring at a wall. I actually was walking around when I heard you.” Shiro turned slightly to look at them from the side of his vision, curious. Heart pounding and cheeks burning, Pidge scrambled to add to their comment to make it more about Shiro, and less about them.
“S-so you know, uh, if ever you need someone to talk to o-or just hang out with at night…” Unexpectedly, Shiro laughed. He faced Pidge with a gentle smile.
“Thanks, Pidge,” he said, “It means a lot.” Pidge froze. They hated when Shiro did that stupid, handsome smile, the one that made them feel like a useless freshman talking to a gorgeous upperclassman who was clearly out of their league. They hated that Shiro was just so effortlessly attractive when they felt like a moldy bag of potato chips.
“Don’t mention it,” they replied, haltingly almost to the point of forced, pulling their hand away, “I just…want to help out.” Shiro’s expression fell.
“What’s the matter?” he asked, “Did I do something wrong?” Pidge sighed, looking away.
“No. But…”
“But what?”
“Do…do you think we’d still be friends if none of this happened? I mean, if you were never captured and we all stayed on Earth?”
The silence that followed Pidge’s question weighed heavily on both of them. Shiro’s memories of Katie Holt were vague at best: Matt’s younger sibling, Commander Holt’s rarely seen second child. In fact, there had only been one occasion before the Kerberos mission that they had spoken to each other. Shiro remembered it vividly, as it had startled him that the fourth member of the Holt family, the one he’d often forgot lived there until they came out of their room periodically for the bathroom or for food, the person he’d assumed to be shy all those years had such a strong, clear voice.
 ...
“Do me a favor, will you? Don’t kill Matt while you’re out there. That’s my job.”
“I’ll soften him up for you. How’s that sound?”
“Sounds great.”
 ...
“I…don’t know…” Shiro responded softly, “Maybe if we’d made it back safely, we could’ve…” They locked eyes, both imagining a life without Voltron, without Zarkon, a life where they could have slowly gotten to know each other, or one where they could have passed each other by completely, never knowing more than a face and a name. Overcome with the same abstract fear, they embraced one another, holding tightly to the life they currently had.
“I don’t care what could have been,” Shiro affirmed, his cheek pressed to Pidge’s hair, “I’m glad I know you now.”
“Me too,” Pidge agreed, their heart fluttering, “I wanna see where this goes.” Shiro pulled back, smiling that impossibly beautiful smile of his. Pidge stared back, eyes wide; they could hardly breathe.
“Sounds great.”

I know it’s been a long time since my last chapter update but 2021 has been kind of rough on me. Chapter 10 Summary:  Katie looks back on the months since Keith started living in the Holt house. Keith does some reflecting of his own. Shiro gets a shocking change. A new player is added to the already complicated mix that is these three’s soul-bond. New Fic: Plummet
A snippet fic from one of my patrons on my Patreon. :) Want your own? Join the Peppermint Hot Chocolate or the Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows Tiers! Only one spot left!
Plummet
Summary: They’re dangling off of a cliff where falling means certain death. And while Shiro’s grip is strong on Pidge’s hand the cliff face is weak. And now time has finally run out.
Story snippet:
“No no no. Shiro, don’t you dare.”
Pidge’s voice was high with pain but equally breathy with desperation and horror as she dangled in open air with only Shiro keeping her from plummeting to her death.
And she could tell from the tensing of his arm, from the shuddering breath as he steeled himself, what he wanted to do.
He couldn’t.
She couldn’t let him.
She tried to bring her right arm up but white hot pain shot through her shoulder -- broken or dislocated collarbone, God, fucking God -- and she barely swallowed down the resulting scream.
There was no way she was lifting it where it hung as deadweight and doubly no way it would be of any help.
God.
Her other hand was just as useless, clamped inside of Shiro’s prosthetic.
She was pretty sure he’d broken her fingers.
She didn’t care.
“Don’t you fucking dare,” she repeated as though that was enough to change Shiro’s mind.
“Pidge--”
“Shiro, please,” it came out a sob. “Please. Please.”
There had to be another way.
She didn’t know what it was but there had to be.

Voltron Legendary Defender Fanfiction
Hilos de Telar “Especial”: Bond-fire
Esp. 1.4
Tiempo: Temporada 2 Capitulo 7 – Capitulo 8
–No sé, tú dímelo.
–¡No!
