the way that cybill shepherd played the gun giving scene!!!! like you're going to tell me that she directly mirrored not only the gesture of flipping open the slit in her dress to invite sofia to slip the gun into her garter with the gesture of flipping open the slit in her robe to invite goncharov to help her get her garters ON (both inverting in their own way the wedding tradition of garter removal in their own ways with their own coding, symbolic of the RAMPANT subtextual homoeroticism), but ALSO the look of desire and disappointment at it being unfulfilled because of the primacy that organized crime and violence holds in both sofia and goncharov's priorities and satisfaction that her reticence to fully trust them both has been proven right by their inability to prioritize reciprocating her desire over their plans for the bratva, for some of you to say she's NOT bisexual!?!? should she have kept a copy of the bisexual manifesto in her garters too????? fuck!!

2028
The house was quiet, the bedroom semi-dark. Katya stood at the end of the bed in her pajamas, twisting the cap on the tube of tattoo cream.
Her body vibrated with excitement. Way too much to sleep. The whole afternoon, she'd anticipated showing her wife what she'd really been doing in town today. It was a miracle she didn't blurt it out earlier, especially with the knowledge that Natasha would absolutely love the surprise, but she had an idea in mind and she wanted to execute it exactly the way she imagined. It was cheesy, but romantic, and would make it a million times better than if she were to simply take off her shirt.
Natasha just came out of the bathroom now, tying off the end of her braid. Her face glowed with the moisture of her skincare, and her presence brought along the smell of vanilla. Katya quickly tossed the tube of cream on the bed, trying to act casual as she smiled, but the movement caught Natasha's sharp eye.
She stopped in her tracks. ''Is that…'' Her gaze flickered from the tube, to Katya's smug face, back to the tube, and then back to Katya's even smugger face. Her jaw slowly dropped when realization settled in. "Katariina, you did not."
Katya grinned widely. This wasn't the way she hoped this would go, but the response was exactly right. "I did."
A dozen different emotions flickered behind Natasha's eyes. Playful disappointment, surprise, a hint of lust, but mostly excitement. She loved it when Katya got new tattoos as a surprise. "Show me.''
"Hmm…" Katya hummed in thought, pursing her lips. "No."
"Please?"
"Begging already?" Katya chuckled when Natasha's face fell into an unimpressed stare. She was loving this power play already. Natasha not so much. "I have a riddle for you. Solve it, and it'll be your only hint."
Natasha scoffed. "A riddle? What am I? Four?"
"Fine.'' Katya shrugged, turning away to pick up the tube to toss it in her nightstand. ''No riddle, no tattoos."
Natasha stubbornly crossed her arms over her chest, watching Katya as she walked around the room. "What are you going to do? Hide your naked body from me for the rest of your life?" When it stayed unwaveringly silent, Natasha groaned in defeat. She knew Katya couldn't keep this up forever, but she could keep it up for a long time. And her own patience wasn't that good. "Give it to me."
With an excited smile, Katya abruptly turned back to her. "I am an odd number. Take away a letter and I become even. What number am I?"
She watched Natasha's face closely while she tried to figure it out. The gears visibly turned behind her eyes, searching for the answer. It wasn't too difficult of a riddle, it shouldn't take her smart brain long to get it. Not to Katya's surprise, she lit up quickly, puzzle pieces falling into place.
"You got seven tattoos?" Natasha hissed in disbelief, her arms slipping loose until they dangled by her sides. Her reaction was nearly comical. If this was a cartoon, her eyeballs would jump out of her head. "How small are they?!"
Katya chuckled slyly, slowly closing the distance between them. "Nuh-uh, you got your hint." The front of Natasha's shirt bunched up in her fist when she yanked her forwards into a kiss, catching her off guard again.
It was so disorienting—the kiss and the earlier surprise—that Natasha barely managed to kiss her back, still reeling about seven new tattoos as Katya pulled her on top of her on the bed. They fell onto the mattress in a tangle of limbs, years of practice helping Natasha unconsciously sort out this straddling-situation. Only the feeling of Katya's tongue tracing her bottom lip pulled her out of her haze.
With a shake of her head, she pulled back, attempting to regain her composure. "Distracting me is not going to work."
Katya smirked up at her mysteriously, her brown hair a mess around her head. "I'm not trying to distract you, I'm trying to help you. But it won't work if you don't follow your instincts."
Natasha suspiciously narrowed her eyes at her. How was kissing going to help her out? "You are being so vague right now."
"Indulge me."
Defeatedly, Natasha sighed, going back to kissing her. As expected, she quickly lost the battle against her brain as the taste and feel of Katya's lips took over every other thought. She grew more eager, biting Katya's bottom lip playfully to pull the softest of whimpers from her right as her hand began to wander over her body. It came naturally, her movements, her needs guiding her.
Before long, Natasha had forgotten about the tattoos, the lust freely roaming her veins. Katya hooked a leg over her back and used the incredible strength in her thigh to yank her body down until it was flush against hers. A husky grunt flew from Natasha's lips, her heart starting to pound in her chest with anticipation of something more.
Eagerly, she left Katya's lips to trail the kisses up her jaw, nipping at the skin. Her lips followed the same path they always did, in search of that patch of soft skin right below her wife's left ear. A kiss to that place, and Katya—
Natasha froze. It was like someone hit her on the head and slammed out all the arousal that clouded her logical brain. Utterly confused, she snapped her head up, staring at the spot she meant to kiss. Katya's grinning eyes watched her process why the skin felt sticky.
There, directly below Katya's earlobe, sat a tiny heart, about half the size of her pinky's fingernail. It appeared Natasha found one of the tattoos.
She frowned at it, finding the placement quite odd. Her gut told her there was more to it. What did Katya say again? Natasha fought through the haze of lust in her mind to recall her exact words from before.
Her instincts… Katya knew her instincts would bring her here, that her lips would end up going to that spot. Maybe that also meant—
Eager but carefully, Natasha pulled the neckline of Katya's shirt down, smiling to herself when that same outlined heart was tattooed on the top of her left breast, where her living, beating heart resided.
She was onto something.
Wordlessly, Katya sat up to help her remove her shirt all together.
Another heart, right there on the outside of her right shoulder.
Starting to get strangely giddy, Natasha gently twisted Katya's body around to confirm her suspicions on number four, at the very top of her spine, right between her shoulder blades.
She was fully smiling now, tracing the shape with her finger. However, there didn't seem to be any other hearts on Katya's upper body.
Questioningly, Natasha glanced down at Katya's pants, then up at her grinning face again. They both knew she had figured it out by now, but it was fun to have her guess.
The inside of Katya's right knee. The inside of her left thigh, very close to the seam of her underwear. Those made six. But no matter how hard Natasha looked—curiously hooking her finger under the waistband of her underwear before Katya slapped her hand away—she couldn't seem to locate the last one.
"You're missing my favorite," Katya muttered as Natasha hovered over her, playing with the ends of Natasha's braid. That's when the redhead spotted it, on the inside of her wrist. Number seven. "There were many more spots, but then my whole body would be covered."
Natasha couldn't find any words to describe the feelings in her chest or the thoughts in her head. Katya had put a heart on her favorite spots to be kissed. By her.
"Do you like it?" Katya asked softly. It was a stupid question, the emotion was written all over Natasha's face.
"I love them,'' she managed to squeeze out. Gently, she took Katya's hand in her own, kissing the heart on her scarred wrist. Her own heart felt like it was going to explode right out of her chest. ''But you know I don't need a map to know where you like to be kissed."
"You immediately knew where to find them…'' Katya whispered vulnerably, feeling so seen and so loved.
''Of course I did, honey. How can I be your wife and not know all of you?'' Natasha smiled tenderly. This was the single most romantic thing anyone had ever done for her. Tears burned behind her eyes as she stared deeply into Katya's. ''You want to know my favorite spot?''
Katya nodded, closing her eyes when Natasha leaned in. Her lips were ready to get their kiss, parting in anticipation, but they were never touched.
Her forehead tickled at the brush of a feather-light kiss.

AITA for deadnaming a mutual friend to another friend?
I (25NB) have a friend (Katya, 27MtF), and another friend (Millie, 25F). Millie is very religious, also neither me or Katya have seen her in person in 3 years, she rarely talks to either of us anymore.
Except recently, I've been texting Millie because of a new show that came out that she thought I'd like. She didn't know about my gender identity, I hadn't told her because I assumed she would be against it. Some background is I've known Millie since we were 10, we've had our ups and downs, a lot of them related to her religion and intolerance of me being raised in a different religion - and later me being out as queer. But we always bounced back, even if she gave me the silent treatment for a few weeks/months.
Anyhow, the topic of Katya came up naturally because we were reminiscing about college, and I didn't know if anyone had told Millie about her transition or not, and I wasn't in the mood to argue with her about it. In the heat of the moment I decided I didn't want to be the person to explain that Katya was a woman now, so I deadnamed her and just didn't think much of it.
Until a week later, Millie angrily messaged me back and was pissed that she was called transphobic for deadnaming Katya to another one of our old college friends, and had heard a rumor that Katya was using a new name and by bringing her up in conversation she wanted to bait me into telling her what it was without asking. She accused me of not trusting her and making her look bad, and then got pissed off that I didn't tell her that I was also using different pronouns and a different name (she found out from that same friend). I told her back that yeah, we haven't talked in years, and in the past she'd said some pretty hurtful shit to me so I didn't want to create issues when we had just started talking again. She blocked me and now my other friends are pissed at me and so is Katya.
I didn't know that she'd become a lot more accepting in those 3 years, and I guess I made the wrong judgement call but AITA here?
What are these acronyms?

Jealousy
James Maguire x reader
Summary: reader is jealous of james and katya, and becomes really good friends with david donnelly, but james thinks david and the reader are something more.
Masterlist
“Who is this?” Katya asks, her accent thick.
“Oh, that's just James,” Erin replies.
“You are handsome,” Katya says, “and also sexy.”
Everyone in the room was shocked by this revelation.
“Is her English not great?” Michelle asks.
Katya looks James up and down before getting up and kissing him.
The girls continued to make comments as you all watched them kiss, but you heard nothing they said. You had been secretly crushing on James for a little while, unbeknownst to your best friends, and the sight of him kissing the Ukrainian had you seeing red.
~~~
You were at Brennan's eating lunch with the gang. The girls were all fighting about something or other while you picked at your food silently, when Jenny showed up with her Ukrainian lad.
“Listen, I have a feeling Artem and a few of the others are a bit homesick,” Jenny explained, “It'd be nice for them to spend some time together. So I’m having a soiree at my place tonight. It's going to be great!”
Just then, Erin’s longtime crush and a good friend of yours, David, walks in. You were closer to David than the other girls, as your parents were friends with his.
He looks around the restaurant until he sees Jenny. “Hey, do you have the playlist for tonight then?” he shoots your group a smile and a nod.
Jenny hands him a piece of paper, “I'll need the sound system set up by 7.”
“Is your band playing at this thing?”
“Oh no, I just do a bit of DJing on the side.” he laughs and heads to order some food.
“On second thought, I think this party might be good for Katya,” Erin says to Jenny.
Just then you look up to see James and Katya making out right in the middle of the restaurant. You look down at your food in disgust, then excuse yourself to go to the washroom.
~~~
At the party, the first thing you saw when you walked in was David at his DJ stand, you waved hello to him before going to find your friends.
You mingled at the party a bit before you got tired of Erin freaking out about Katya taking James’ virginity. You found yourself hanging out with David, talking and drinking beer. David was cool and you enjoyed talking to him, it got your mind off of James for a bit… until you all heard a commotion upstairs, you followed David and the others to the stairwell, only catching the end of the argument.
“--How dare you? I am poor Ukrainian, so I must be prostitute!” Katya yells. You raise your eyebrows in shock.
Erin comes to address the crowd forming on the stairs, “Hear me out, first she comes on to James here. What would possess her?” you roll your eyes, “Financial gain, that's what!”
He attractive boy, Erin.” Katya reasons.
“He's English, Katya.” Erin replies offhandedly.
“I have no problem with this.”
“You should,” Michelle butts in.
Erin continues yelling about the condoms in Katya's bag, and the money the Ukrainians have been giving her all evening.
“How the hell do you explain that?” Erin asks Katya in regards to the money.
“I organize, how you say it, whip round. We like to buy Jenny present to thank her for nice party.” Katya explains in her normal, but angry voice.
“Ohhh, you guys!!”Jenny replies sweetly.
Erin is left speechless, as is everyone else.
“So not only you insult me, but you've also spoiled Jenny’s surprise!” Katya adds.
“I think you should leave,” Jenny states. you sink back behind David in the crowd, not wanting to associate or even be seen by your friends. You could feel their eyes on you though, as they passed by in shame.
“You can still hang with me for the rest of the night,” David offered, you smiled slightly at him and nodded.
You spent the next little while drinking and talking, but David could tell you were a little off.
“So what’s up?”
“What do you mean?” you ask, taking a swig of your beer.
“You seem… distracted, sad even.”
“Nah, it's nothing,” you try to brush it off.
“Obviously it's not, so spill.”
“I… I.. have a wee bit of a crush on James…” you say with a pained look on your face.
David nods and hums in agreement. “So the whole Katya thing…?” he trails off.
“Yeah.”
“Yeah.. that sucks, well, if it's any sentiment, he's gotta be into you too, because like every guy in Derry is into you,” He nudges you shoulder.
You laugh, “Yeah, OK.”
“It’s true!!” David chuckles.
“Okay, okay, I believe you!” you look around at the dwindling party, “Well… I should probably get going,” sigh, getting up from your spot on the floor.
“Want me to walk you home?” David offers, getting up as well.
“Yeah, I’d like that, thanks,” you smile at him as he sticks out his elbow for you to take.
The walk home is full of drunken giggles and nonsense.
When you reached your house, you turned to David to say thank you again, and, unbeknownst to you, James was looking out his window watching. He had been waiting to make sure you got home alright, after he realized you hadn't followed the group out of the party.
“Thank you,” you smiled up at David.
“No problem,” he replied, “we should hang out more.”
“I agree,” you laughed. You leant up on your tiptoes and gave him a peck on the cheek, “Goodnight, David.” With that, you turned on your heel and walked into your house, David yelling ‘goodnight’ after you.
~~~
The next couple weeks, James didn't talk to you, which you didn't mind because you had been ignoring him before anyways. Plus now you were in a good mood due to your blooming friendship with David. It’s not that you had romantic feelings for him, but you did really like him, although you would never do something to hurt Erin.
The whole friend group watched in confusion as you and David became closer friends. After a couple weeks of silence James finally blew up.
“Why are you hanging out with him?” You were at Michelle’s house, you and James were alone in the kitchen getting drinks.
“What?” you asked, genuinely confused.
“David, why do you keep hanging out with him?” James repeated.
“I don't know, he's nice and fun to be around..”
“So are we!” James countered.
“Fine. Why did you let Katya kiss you?”
“I--I..”
The girls had heard the commotion and came into the kitchen.
“What’s going on?” Erin asked.
No one said anything for a second..
“I saw Y/N kiss David Donnelley!” James exclaims. You gape at him.
“What?” The girls gasp.
“No! I didn't! I kissed him on the cheek-- which is a totally different thing! I was just saying thank you for walking me home!”
“How could you Y/N?” Orla asks, cradling Erin's head.
You shake your head, then turn and leave. James follows you outside, “So what? You're just gonna leave?”
“Yeah! Well, it doesn't feel like I’m welcomed there anymore!” you yell back, exasperated.
“Y/N!” you could hear a change in tone in James’ voice, was that desperation? “Wait! I've been a dick, I’m so sorry!”
You slowly turn towards him, “Yeah, you have been.”
“I’m sorry I just.. didn't like seeing you with him,” James reveals.
“How do you think I felt about Katya?” you say quietly.
James looks at you, confused, for a moment, “Wait-- you mean?” you nod in a response, smiling crookedly.
James runs forward, enveloping you in a hug, “I’m so sorry,” he whispers in your shoulder.
“Me too.” And your lips collide in the most beautiful kiss either of you have ever experienced
Катя. Ч. 2
Во время отпуска Сашка решил постичь тайны древних цивилизаций, поэтому потащил Катю к развалинам храма, в котором тысячелетия тому назад жрецы взывали к богам. (During his vacation, Sashka decided to understand the secrets of ancient civilizations, so he dragged Katya to the ruins of a temple where, thousands of years ago, priests called upon the gods)
Tumblr media
Катя была уверена, что это лишь очередной аттракцион для туристов, но если мужу приспичило бросить монетку к подножию статуи, пусть развлекается. (Katya was sure that this was just another attraction for tourists, but if her husband felt like throwing a coin at the foot of the statue, let him have fun)
Tumblr media
Но когда во время экскурсии на вертолете к ним в кабину залетел рой пчел, Сашка заявил, что это гнев богов за Катино неверие. (But when, during a helicopter excursion, a swarm of bees flew into their cabin, Sashka declared that this was the wrath of the gods for Katya’s disbelief)
Tumblr media
Сказала бы ему Катя всё, что о нем думает, но она была слишком занята, пытаясь с дочерью спастись от роя. (Katya would have told him everything she thought about him, but she was too busy trying to escape the swarm with her daughter)
Tumblr media
Вечером Сашка захотел осмотреть еще одни развалины в глубине острова. Аборигены рассказывали, что там сокрыт эликсир молодости, но путь к нему охраняют огненные демоны. (In the evening, Sashka wanted to explore another ruin in the depths of the island. The natives said that the elixir of youth was hidden there, but the path to it was guarded by fiery demons)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Недолго думая, Сашка отправился в развалины искать этот эликсир. А вдруг омолодится! Однако, когда до золотого кубка было рукой подать, прямо перед Сашкой из-под земли взвился столб огня. Пока ее муженек не поджарился, Катя забрала его обратно в отель. (Without thinking twice, Sashka went into the ruins to look for this elixir. What if he becomes rejuvenated! However, when the golden cup was just a stone's throw away, a column of fire rose from the ground right in front of Sashka. Before her hubby got fried, Katya took him back to the hotel)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Катя была уверена, что развлечения должны быть безопасными, вроде Лимбо или горячих углей. А как приятно в пасмурную погоду выпить обжигающий местный напиток. (Katya was sure that entertainment should be safe, like Limbo or hot coals. And how nice it is to drink a scalding local drink in cloudy weather)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Самый лучший отдых - лежать на пляже под лучами ласкового солнца и любоваться на безбрежную воду. Сашка с женой был не согласен, но благоразумно молчал, а то она припомнит, как он чуть не подкоптился, поверив в глупые байки. (The best vacation is to lie on the beach under the rays of the gentle sun and admire the boundless water. Sashka did not agree with his wife, but wisely remained silent, otherwise she would remember how he almost got fried by believing in stupid stories)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
В последний вечер перед отъездом семья зашла на рынок рядом с плантацией. Туристам позволили самим собрать спелые фрукты, (On the last evening before leaving, the family went to the market near the plantation. Tourists were allowed to pick ripe fruit themselves,)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
но стоило Кате отвернуться, как Сашка полез на пальму якобы за кокосами, а еще солидный пожилой человек, называется. (but as soon as Katya turned away, Sashka climbed onto the palm tree, supposedly for coconuts, although they say about him that he is a respectable old man)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Утром перед отъездом Катя вывела семью на пляж, чтобы последний раз принять солнечные ванны. (The morning before leaving, Katya took her family to the beach to sunbathe for the last time)
Tumblr media
Вернувшись домой, Катя была полна энергии и вновь решила найти работу в криминале или спорте. Ее приняли в спорт на должность разносчика воды. (Returning home, Katya was full of energy and again decided to find a job in crime or sports. She was accepted into the sport as a water carrier)
Tumblr media
Да они издеваются, - решила Катя и немедленно уволилась. (“They’re kidding me,” Katya decided and immediately quit)
Tumblr media
Она рисованием зарабатывает намного больше, чем ей предлагают на работе, и не перед кем унижаться не приходится. Ну а Сашка наслаждался покоем и обществом верного пса. (She earns much more by drawing than she is offered at work, and she does not have to humiliate herself before anyone. Well, Sashka enjoyed the peace and company of his faithful dog)
Tumblr media
Если пес, Лерой, слушался своих хозяев, то собачка, Сузи, решила, что она сама устанавливает правила в этом доме, а хозяева должны подтирать за ней лужи. (If the dog, Leroy, obeyed his owners, then the dog, Susie, decided that she herself sets the rules in this house, and the owners should wipe up the puddles after her)
one of my favorite things about the eight years I spent living in LA is the sheer number of movies I saw that I never would've watched otherwise. so many of my friends were huge film people and there are all these little theaters (pre-pandemic at least) that would show rereleases of old movies or do neat double features or have talk backs or lectures or whatever. I got to see one of my favorite old movies on the big screen, The Philadelphia Story (1940), this way.
anyway, this is all to say, that it's so nice seeing people rediscover Goncharov (1973) -- a friend dragged me to a screening of it at The Silent Movie Theatre (RIP) back in like...2014/2015 and I enjoyed it so much more than I expected to. I've never been a huge mob movie person, but there's something about Scorsese's direction in Goncharov that makes it so much more emotional than your typical crime flick. I think it might be because it was so early in his career and he hadn't fully refined his style yet, so there's an honesty and earnestness to it I find really compelling. They were showing the original theatrical release, not the version that got put to VHS and DVD eventually, and while the more well known edited version is a better film, I think the original has a really charming imperfection. although, lol, one of the reels was damaged, so there was a two minute sequence without any sound.
the other very cool thing about this viewing is that they did a short talkback with Sandrana Zimmerman, the Goncharov costume designer and the way that she talked about how she costumed Goncharov, Katya, and Andrey.....she was an OT3 shipper, that's all I'm saying.
In honor of the 1 50 year anniversary of Goncharov, I wanted to write just a little thing about my favorite underappreciated side character. Mariella deserves so much better than what she got.
-----
Mariella gasped awake, clutching at her midsection.
Katya shot her.
Mariella, drenched in Sofia's blood had grabbed her lover’s gun. Before she could even attempt to aim, the second shot rang out. A lance of pain streaked through her as the clocktower began to chime. She sank to her knees on the wet flagstones on the bridge and felt the life pouring from her. The last thing she saw was Sofia's glazed eyes. The last word on her lips was Sofia's name.
The clocktower, now distant, rang. She stared at the ceiling of her bedroom, tears prickling in the corners of her eyes.
It was Monday again. The clock was chiming with the sunrise.
Mariella pressed the heels of her hands against her eyes. How many times had she woken up in this bed, on this day? How many times had she been around this loop?
She had lost count a long time ago.
Each time was different, as if she were trapped in a story with a thousand authors who couldn't agree on the details.
She wasn't even the main character of whatever this story was. She couldn't explain it if she wanted to, but over the grind of endless living the same week over and over, it had become clear that she was just a minor side character. Someone who existed in the background, along for the ride in someone else's narrative.
She rolled out of bed and stared into the distance.
“What do you want from me?” she asked the universe for perhaps the millionth time.
She didn't think about trying to end it. She had tried. She had tried and tried and tried. But invariably, death simply delivered her back to this moment.
Perhaps she had been dead this whole time. Perhaps this was hell.
She was doomed to relive the same five days, doomed to fall in love with a woman with impossibly twisted loyalties, a woman who herself fell in love with a monster, a monster by choice rather than necessity, but a monster nonetheless.
Even after this eternity, Mariella could remember being a schoolgirl on holiday in the countryside. She could remember meeting Katya, she could remember falling in love.
She could remember their reunion, years later. She could remember the unease, the vague wariness of meeting the woman that girl had become.
The door to her flat opened. Joe was here, bearing eggs and bread and sweet apples from the market.
Might as well start again, she murmured to herself and drifted like a wraith to the kitchen.
Joe was at the stove, his back to her as it always was.
“Hello, sister dearest. Do you want breakfast?”
The boss wants you to work late tonight, Mariella recited silently.
“Boss wants me to work late tonight,” Joe said, without turning from the stove. “Might be a busy week.”
He did turn them, a crooked grin on his face. He stilled at the sight of her. Something dangerous flashed in his eyes. Something she never noticed or questioned before the day after tomorrow.
Why do they call you Icepick Joe?
The question had been innocent enough at the beginning, but she had seen too much, lived through this week too many times.
He studied her a moment.
“There someone I need to pay a visit?”
The woman I love is going to kill you in four days.
Or he was going to kill her.
Both of them would be dead by Friday in either case.
Sofia would kill Joe. Katya would kill Sofia. Or Goncharov would kill Sofia. Or Andrey.
It was always the same. Every. Single. Time.
She wanted to scream. She wanted to fall to her knees and howl until her throat was raw.
Every single person Mariella ever loved would-
The phone rang.
Mariella flinched.
The phone never rang. Not in all the times she had lived through this morning.
It rang again.
She stared at it.
“You going to get that?” Joe called over his shoulder.
With trembling hands, she picked up the receiver and raised it to her her.
“Mari?”
Her breath caught in her throat and she nearly staggered.
That voice haunted her dreams, it haunted every waking thought.
She wasn't supposed to hear that voice for the first time until that evening.
She cast a glance at Joe, who was no doubt listening very intently.
“It's… it's me,” she said, trying to keep the tremor out of her voice. “I'm here.”
“Mariella, what the fuck is going on?”
domestic katerivan my beloved...
Katya wakes up in the morning, stretching and bathing in the sunrays that fall through the curtains, but she turns around and the bed is empty. fear sets over her - Ivan shouldn't be up, it's Sunday. It wouldn't be the first time he's disappeared either. She doesn't even want to remember the time she found him senseless, lying in the snow.
She rushes out of bed and runs across the halls barefeet, careless of the stinging cold. she's about to take the door, when the distinct smell of tea leads her to the kitchen. She sneaks in and finds her husband clumsily attempting to make breakfast. she slides silently behind him, her blue vest flowing in the air.
Ivan's startled when he feels slender fingers caress his arms.
"You scared me, dear."
He sighs upon hearing Katya's soothing familiar voice. "I thought you'd sleep longer."
"I didn't think you were much of a cook."
"I know the basics, nothing more. Thought I'd use my poor skills to surprise you."
"You have spoiled me too much already."
Katya gets on her tip toes to kiss her husband's forehead. Katya can't say 'thank you' as much as Ivan can't say 'sorry', but it's fine, sphinxes have their own puzzling language.
2028
Listen, Katya in the kitchen wasn't anything new. She cooked dinner three days of the week, and sometimes she liked to bake simple cakes or cookies, the ones from those boxes.
But she'd been in the kitchen, mixing and rummaging, for the past two hours, and Natasha was starting to get confused. No cake or cookie would take that long to make. Not even including prep and baking time.
On top of that, an unfamiliar smell filled up the house. It was cake, but a special kind of cake. Flavored? It had a hint of strawberries.
Now, it could be that Natasha's senses were still confused from the cake tasting they'd done just this morning. Four hours of trying different flavors and textures of cake to decide which one they should serve their wedding guests. Her tongue was still confused.
Initially, she simply wanted to pick a flavor from the menu and tell the bakery to go with it, but Katya had pouted like a little kid who was robbed of going to the candy store. So they went cake tasting. Whatever makes the wife happiest.
Would Clint and Tony make fun of her for agreeing to go with Katya's choice and have a white chocolate cake with raspberry cream? Probably. It screamed, "my wife picked this and I went along with it because I'm a simp for her, and I couldn't care less about the flavor of the cake, and white chocolate is way too sweet for my taste". But Katya left the bakery with the biggest smile on her face, and that's all that mattered.
Blinking the sleep from her mid-day nap from her eyes, Natasha wandered down the stairs, curiously creeping up to the kitchen. The smell was even stronger here, seducing her into following her nose towards the source. She couldn't deny it, it smelled great, her mouth watering despite the abundance of cake currently being processed in her stomach.
"What are you—"
A towel flew through the kitchen. One second, Natasha saw everything, the next, her vision was black. The smell of wet cotton filled her nose, filtering the one of freshly baked cake, much to her disappointment. Katya had thrown the towel with such precision and skill that it covered her face and stayed there, like a makeshift ghost costume.
"Don't look! It's a surprise."
Natasha felt like a complete idiot, standing there in the door opening with that thing on her head, but she didn't fight it. "What are you doing in there?"
"Making a cake for you."
Even blind, she knew what expression her wife was making based on the tone of her voice. Giddy, adorable excitement, the most endearing, bright smile on her face.
Natasha furrowed her brows, her heart swelling. "For me?" It wasn't her birthday, and she didn't accomplish anything exciting lately.
"Yes."
"Why?"
"Just because." Katya beamed. There was some clattering, a few silent footsteps on the ground. Natasha sensed her body as it moved around the space.
"How can you even still think about cake after this morning?" She teased lightly.
It was meant to be a joke, one Katya would respond to with something witty or sarcastic, but Natasha's question was met with a pause that was a bit too long instead. Slowly, the smile faded from her lips.
"Should I have made something else?" Katya asked softly.
"No!" Natasha exclaimed in a hurry. She nearly tore the towel off her head to show Katya exactly how soft and grateful her eyes were. Even if she was literally puking from eating too much cake earlier, she'd still thank her wife for being so sweet. "No, baby, I love it."
"Okay." The enthusiasm returned to Katya's voice, to Natasha's great relief. "Give me ten more minutes and I'll be done. Then I'll show you what I've been working on."
"Okay."
Doing a 180-degree turn in her spot, Natasha pulled the towel from her head. Oxygen-rich air filled her lungs as she walked to the living room, plopping on the couch with her phone. She had to fight off a thoughtful frown as she scrolled away and liked some posts on her Katya fan account.
Something in her gut told her that she should be suspicious. Katya baking a cake wasn't weird, but Katya baking a cake after the cake tasting this morning was weird, and Katya hiding said cake was even weirder. Usually, she was happy to indulge her family in their curiosity.
Natasha was knee-deep into another Katya fan account, and just about to zoom in on a bikini picture of her, when Katya's voice rang out.
"You can come back!"
Cautiously, she locked her phone and returned to the kitchen. Katya shielded her masterpiece with her body, a huge grin on her face as she waited for Natasha to be ready. Ready for something mysteriously. Her enthusiasm would be more endearing if Natasha was less suspicious.
"Tada!"
The cake revealed itself when Katya stepped aside. Natasha narrowed her eyes at it, taking a few steps closer to see it better.
Heart-shaped, it was at least ten inches tall and covered in pink buttercream. No fancy decorations, no other colors. Just a pink heart. Simple, classic, sleek
Oh, and two words on top.
'BANG ME'
Natasha just managed to keep her face straight, but it caught her off guard so badly she nearly choked on her own spit. Her heart skipped a few beats as she composed herself, putting on a nonchalant demeanor.
"Okay."
Surprised, Katya perked up. "Okay?"
"Okay. I'll bang you," Natasha said casually, shrugging her shoulders.
Katya's cheeks turned a light shade of pink, her previous confidence faltering because of her wife's casual use of vulgar talk. "Nat."
"Is it not what you wanted?" Natasha asked, slowly backing the brunette up against the counter. "It's a very clear suggestion. Very on the nose."
"You want me on your nose?" Katya feigned stupidity.
"I-" Natasha closed her mouth and shook her head with disappointment, much to Katya's amusement. The woman's blue eyes sparkled with mischief, a sly smile exposing her teeth. It was hard not to roll her eyes at it. "I love your writing," she commented, looking at the cake over Katya's shoulder. It was the worst example of capital block letters ever. Any six-year-old could do it better on paper.
Katya frowned in offense. "Don't shame my writing. It was my first time using a smaller piping bag."
"I can see that."
The frown deepened. "It was between, 'Bang me', and, 'I love your tits'. I went with this one."
"Amazing choice, baby," Natasha said dryly, running her hands from Katya's hips up to her waist, sliding them under her shirt. "I'm honored that you felt a need to declare your love for my boobs on a cake."
"Maybe I can do that next time." Katya abruptly perked up. "Oh! I can make the cake in the shape of actual boobs!" She was so excited about that prospect that she looked ready to make that cake right now.
Natasha chuckled lowly, giving her waist a playful squeeze. "How about you work on some actual, actual boobs right now?"
Katya froze. Her gaze flickered to Natasha's boobs and lingered there, a shimmer of lust mixing into her enthusiasm. "Actually?"
"Actually."
The prospect made her mouth water, yet her joy faltered a bit as she looked back up at Natasha's face. "What about my cake?"
The redhead smirked, pressing Katya further into the kitchen island with her hips. "Oh, I'll eat your cake."
Bonus:
Brooklyn perked up as she followed Maya into the house, kicking her shoes off by the door. "It smells so good in here!"
"My mom must have baked something." Maya smiled, always happy to try one of Katya's masterpieces. Stress-baking has made a good baker out of her.
Without waiting for her girlfriend, Brooklyn hurried into the kitchen, following the aroma that drifted into her nose. She spotted it instantly. "A cake!"
"What ki—" The girls stopped in their tracks, side by side as they read the words once, then twice, then another time to make sure they said what they said.
Slowly, Maya's face turned red. And even Brooklyn, who usually didn't get flustered easily, started to pale. They were both familiar with the Russians' shenanigans, but they hadn't stumbled upon something so embarrassing yet.
"We're never talking about this again," Maya muttered, dragging her girlfriend out of there.
A Lovely Hand
Last one for the OC Kiss Week. I had so much fun. Even the lack of confidence about my English writing was lifted away.
Last, but not less important, this is about my fav girls in the entire Golarion. Kadira belongs to @spyridonya and Ekaterina is a well known figure around here because I’m obsessed for her lol
Thank you again for coming aboard with me and those mental barbies, Spyri.
CW: Period cramps, a ton of pain, sleeping together, just Katya being Katya
If she lay quietly, nobody would ever notice what was going on. Kadira was sure about it. She said good night to the others and slippered into her bedroll, only letting the pain flow after she was all covered up.
Good gods, how it hurted. And in those wastelands it was impossible to find any kind of herb that could relieve the sensation of her womb attempting to kill her. Kadira tried to extinguish the cramps with a magical trick, but she was so tired and disoriented it was useless.
She pouted. That was it. There was no escape.
Everybody was already asleep, except for the watchers. But she would not bother Lann, nor Ulbrig, about it. Actually, telling any of them surely would be an embarrassing situation at least — the first was too awkward, the latter probably would recommend nonsensical methods.
She had to endure it alone. It was not like the first time she was by herself though.
The woman was so deep in her ache that barely heard muffled steps approaching. A shiver ran down her spine when she finally realized that someone was right behind her. Her tail snapped under the blankets as a reflex. But soon the soft glow coming from the silent person made her nerves relax: it was Ekaterina.
“Sorry,” the aasimar said hushed. “May I sleep with you?”
Kadira felt flustered, and covered her nose like a shy kid. “Sure,” babbled.
She knew the question was really about that: only. Sleep. Ekaterina was not like Daeran, though Kadira noticed he was acting much more respectful towards her lately — in Daeran's way, of course.
The aasimar put her bedroll next to Kadira and at first sat over it. Her hair was already down, and she took off her baubles before finally joining the tiefling that night.
“There,” she giggled, pulling Kadira close. “Not quite as comfortable as we deserve, but better than nothing, right?”
Kadira nodded. Her womb twisted harder than before and she bit her lip. Damn.
The slight movement made Ekaterina frown. “Something wrong?”
Kadira swallowed. She was not Lann nor Ulbrig, thankfully. The sorceress could count on her.
“I'm… I'm sore.” Kadira turned around, slipping her tail under the blankets. “We were so busy lately that I forgot to keep track of my moons…”
Ekaterina's eyes arched. “Oh…”
“I know, it’s bad.” Kadira dropped her gaze, feeling ashamed. It was not her fault and she should not feel that way, but…
“Excuse me, my dear.”
If she was not dealing with that lot of pain, Kadira would be stiff and blush. But she let the druid rummage over the bedroll, reaching for her belly with warm hands.
“Tell me where it hurts.”
“You are on the right spot,” she affirmed.
Katya closed her eyes and concentrated. Her hand became warmer and Kadee felt magic rushing through them. It took a while to work. She took deep breaths, resting her forehead on the woman's shoulder, inhaling her scent.
When the cramps were lifted for now, Kadira finally felt her eyelids heavy. She was relaxed enough to drift to Desna's realm.
“Better?” Ekaterina asked, leaving a kiss among her thick black curls.
Kadira agreed. “Thank you.”
The druid buried her cheek in her lover's hair. “Good night, Kadee.”
What are your favorite tumblr blogs?
Oooooohhhh an opportunity to make an appreciation post! (Btw the order doesn't mean anything so know if you are the last on the list doesn't mean I love you any less!)
PS: Had to make this two parts because apperantly tumblr only allows 4096 words...
Part I (here) | Part II
@antvnger: I know Ant Mun for a while now. Met them sometime at the start of this year I guess and even if we haven't interacted much lately and stuff I'm still going through his page almost everyday to see what he has been up to. The mun is one of the sweetest persons I ever met and is so amazing in potraying Scott (who I just live as much as I love Ant Mun).
@spideymn: Probably the one I know the longest here on tumblr. I met her somewhen at the end of last year and we wrote together like every day before I went on a longer tumblr break. I was so sad and heartbroken when I couldn't find her on tumblr anymore not knowing that we have been writing together the whole time not knowing that it was us. Guess the moment we realized it, was one of my absolut favorite moments here on tumblr. She's such a sweet and honest person and she was one of the first who let me feel comfortable for being myself and to reach out to her for whatever reason. And tbh she's also one of the persons why I decided to come back here in the first place.
@silently-judgingyou: Another one I know longer here. While the two of us haven't talked as much as I did with Spidey Mun I still enjoyed our conversation and our rps. They're always so wholesome and I love to see the interactions between MJ and Morgan and how both of them started to build a sisterly bond. I also love the thread we started with Katya and MJ. We haven't done much yet but it's so funny to see the two girls who don't want to talk to anyone and want to be left alone get to know eachother. The mun is also such a sweet and nice person and I'm so happy to have her around.
@remarkableheroes: My dear and beloved Bucky! The moment I saw your OC Anya I instantly fell in love and thought OMG! Wanna write with them! You have no idea how scared I was to reach out and how happy I was when you said yes. And now look at us! We just talked about making our Ocs officialy to eachothers stories, something I thought I would never do again until I met you. In all these years you have been the first Oc mun where I felt comfortable to try it again. I love everything about you and Anya but also your other muses. You are such a sweet and amazing person and I'm so happy that I found you and got to know you.
@skallagrimulfhedinn/@michaelandadam: Another person I knew from my first try here on tumblr and who I love so much. The mun has such amazing characters and I love writing with them so much. I love Skallagrim and Ash and tbh when the Mun told me about the SPN rp blog I made a little scream. SPN has been one of my favorite fandoms I was ever part of and I literaly cried during the last episode. I was really suprised and happy to see how SPN is kinda making a return. and this Mun plays Adam so well and I can't wait to see how they will play Michael at one point.
@azuresrp: Guess what? Yep this beautiful person here was also one of my old friends who I found here on tumblr before my break… Or more like who found me. They're so sweet and amazing and have such a great character. I love Ryan, I love his story and I love the mun and our interactions. Most of all I love our ooc talk and plotting. It's just so much fun to talk with them about our characters or about whatever else we are talking about. And it's so funny everytime we haven't spoken for a while both of us can be sure the next message will start with a "Sorry it took so long… life happened."
@kyber-infinitygems/@neonsoundbite: Amazing person, amazing Mun, amazing Ocs, amazing Story! Just AMAZING! I love Luc and I love Brenna! They're also one of my favorite Ocs I saw here on tumblr. I love talking ooc with the mun which we have done the most and I love it so much that she shares the same love for Bruce than I do. I literaly know not a single person who has Bruce as one of their favorites and I was so happy when I saw her love for Bruce! And I also love the fact that she shipped her Oc not with a major character like Steve, Tony or Thor like everyone else always does… No she chose Kurt Goreshter. Such an amazing character who honestly doesn't get enough love and attention. Like he's actually so funny but always gets overlooked and forgotten! But not by her which I think is so cool and awesome. And omg her drawings and edits! They're so amazing!
Thoughts on Goncharov?
Yes, there are nuanced themes regarding the unacknowledged yet ever-present American influence in an Italy previously ravaged by war, and we could dissect how carefully those are threaded into the narrative all day, but I really want to turn everyone’s attention to the actual craft of the film. While the pacing is not perfect, the filmmaking itself is phenomenal.
Everyone likes to bring up the scene at the clocktower. Clock symbolism. Time symbolism. Numbers ticking down. A truly fantastic sequence, yet I don’t think I’ve seen any actual discussion of how deeply integral the circle is to the visual language of the film. Everything about the frame is circular—honing in on Goncharov like a predator stalking its prey. There is a subtle tightening of the frame up until we hit that famous tower sequence and it explodes into a relentless torrent of shots wider than any we have seen before. And this scene too is cyclical in nature; though Goncharov and Andrey pursue each other across its winding steps and terraces, this is not where their confrontation takes place, as each seems to outpace the other around every new turn, as they have for years. It becomes unclear who is pursing who.
And this is for a very specific purpose, as it is where the narrative folds in on itself and the seed of doubt is planted. Maybe Katya left him for a reason. Maybe Andrey has, all this time, been consumed with righteous rage. Maybe Goncharov is as unreliable a narrator as the camera.
When the two finally meet again it is in Goncharov’s office. Andrey sneaks in through the window and we finally get that scene we’ve been waiting on the edge of our seats for. But it is quiet, and solemn. Sort of sad. And beautiful in the ways that it deepens those shades of gray—refusing any clear-cut answers as to who exactly its protagonist really is, the scene itself mirroring the exact staging of the very first shot of the film, where Goncharov sits at his desk, smoking alone. From that first frame, the clock on the wall looms over him, silently whispering that his days are numbered. After all, a clock only stops when it dies.
This is maybe one of the most fascinating and wonderfully constructed films about a character living on borrowed time—a concept that is fully embodied in every aspect of its filmmaking. Really grateful that people dug this one up and inspired me to rewatch it! It is a masterclass in visual storytelling, which in itself is intriguing, as a lesser film would certainly have gotten bogged down in the talky-ness and intrigue of its premise.
