Squirrelflight and Brambleflower’s kits from left to right: Aldershade, Sparkstorm, Goldbreeze, Hawkpool, and Redcloud! In the Good Timeline AU, Brambleclaw steps down as deputy once Hollyleaf returns in OotS, instead deciding to focus on rebuilding his relationship with Squirrelflight and the three. They later have the five, who help bring a lot of positive change to the Clans. More AU ramblings below :)

The five are the main characters of the Good Timeline Arc Five, in which four out of five each go on their own journey, and work to implement both ‘apprentices must go on a journey to a non-Clan location’ and a variety of other changes throughout the arc. Their suffixes refer to each of the five Clans, representing the unity that they helped bring about. Additionally, they’ve inherited their mother’s sibling connection powers, and can all share dreams together.

Goldbreeze is the oldest and the biggest! She’s named after Goldenflower. She decides, entirely on her own, to take on the burden of leadership and living up to Firestar’s legacy so that her littermates don’t have to. She goes on a journey to the Sisters, and ends up falling in love with their next matriarch, Lavender. Design notes are that her little nose blaze is a marking my parent’s cat has that I absolutely adore.

Aldershade is very similar to canon, so not too much to say for him, but he does get to be best friends with Needle, who also becomes a medicine cat in the Good Timeline. He goes on a journey to Midnight’s Den on the ocean. Design notes are that he looks like his Dad, just much redder. 

Sparkstorm my beloved. She journeys to SkyClan, and plays a huge role in their process of joining the Clans. She’s very loyal and stubborn and gets to be more center stage than she was in AVoS. Design notes are that she looks very similar to Firestar, and that her fur tufts are supposed to look a little bit like flames. 

Hawkpool loves his littermates so much and other than that it’s mostly empty up there (affectionate). He looks just like, and is named after, Hawkfrost, who gets a redemption arc. Hawkpool journeys to the Tribe and one of Stormfur’s kits leaves to join the Clans and be with him. Design notes are just that he’s the middle child.

Redcloud is technically not Squirrelflight and Brambleflower’s kit; he was left to them by his mother before she left to join the Sisters. She wanted him to grow up with a community, but she needed something different, so she left him with Squirrelflight and her newly born litter. He looks an awful lot like Squirrelflight, and most non-ThunderClan cats aren’t aware he isn’t part of the litter. He is the youngest by about a week. He volunteers to stay behind when his siblings go on their journeys so that he can share their progress with the Clans and send help to them if they need it. Design notes are that he looks like Squirrelflight, although he has a large and wide build that’s typical of the Sisters.

Hollyflight had lost her brothers in the panic of clan escaping the flames, everything felt dizzy and confusing. So many thoughts and emotions from her clanmates was intertwined with her own. All she knew for certain was that she needed to get to the lake, she couldn't help her family or clan if she was died searching in the flames.

As Holly ran towards the direction that she presumed was the lake, was suddenly shoved to ground. Now feeling the ache of the spiky burned grass, she lifted her head towards culprit of the harsh push. Sparkstorm.

"Sparkstorm, what are you doing? We need hurry before we get trapped!" Holly shouted, picking herself up.

"Oh I know Holly." The spotted cat muttered in calm voice. Their tone surprised Hollyflight enough to look towards usually unintentionally loud cat. Sparkstorm stood Infront of the only exit to the newly formed circle of fire that enclosed them. Blood pouring out of their ears, eyes crazed and body trembling with claws unsheathed. Unlike their usual discombobulated and loud thoughts, only one thing can be clearly heard. 'It should've been him.'

Holly'flight paused before hissing out, "I know you're upset with about Shrewleaf, but please you can't hate Lionbelly for something he couldn't help. Your quarrel with Lion needs to stop now"

"Lionbelly? No. I have no quarrel with Lion."

The raven furred she-cat eyes widened from the statement, "Then wh-"

"My quarrel is with you, Hollyflight." Sparkstorm stared to stalk towards Holly. "Shrewleaf was suppose to be third cat of the prophecy, not some half-clan ex-rouge! You'll never understand how Juniperheart and I felt when our brother was ripped away from us, only to be replaced by some cat lies about her own powers. But worry you'll soon will once you see your brothers dead!"

i know ive said wc isnt really a main interest for me but something I am very disproportionately angry about and think about often is how much of a waste of a prefix sparkpelt is. like spark was a great prefix and they just used the most generic suffix in the series with it. there was so much potential and they just threw it away.

if i did an avos rewrite. it would be firestar coming to sparkpaw and telling her about skyclan and saying it’s time for skyclan to join the clans around the lake. sparkpaw tells jayfeather about her dream and he directs her to sandstorm, who tells her about it, and decides to lead her there. sparkpaw insists her cringefail brother comes too, hopefully to get him some experience (he is a warrior apprentice and not banished to the med den for being so fail) needlepaw finds the patrol and comes too, so it’s grandma and 3 kids, and the 3 apprentices are all become friends.

sandstorm leads them to skyclan and they find darktail and his guys but sandstorm has a bad feeling about them, and refuses to work with them. they go off looking for the real skyclan and find them (instead of going home and then leaving again in a few books) and darktail catches up to them. sandstorm lays down her life fighting for skyclan then, maybe she’s protecting baby twigkit and violetkit (who are not randomly abandoned and are not pov characters) or maybe to give them all a head start at getting away. either way she goes out fighting for skyclan, and glimpses of her spirit guide them back to the lake.

spark and alder return to the lake with skyclan in tow, but sparkpaw is having mixed feelings about skyclan now because her beloved grandma died for them, and now that they’re back at the lake there seems to be nothing but turmoil caused by bringing them back. alderpaw advocates aggressively for them, which drives a wedge between the siblings. skyclan is there to advise shadowclan against letting darktail close to them, but they are stubborn and rowanstar sucks so they ignore the warnings and get taken over. riverclan does not get taken over. needletail is there to give a POV from shadowclan as things get worse. darktail’s gang+shadowclan take over the territory that thunderclan cleared for skyclan’s temporary camp, which adds more tension. onestar is being aggressive and paranoid towards the other clans, especially skyclan, but doesn’t seem interested in what’s happening in shadowclan. needletail (pretending to be on darktail’s side) figures out the relationship between darktail and onestar, and tells sparkpaw, and her and alderpaw go to confront onestar on their own and he kicks them out, but he dwells on their thoughts. 

thunder, sky and riverclan leap into a big final battle against darktail, some shadowclan cats turn on him but some don’t out of fear or new loyalties. needletail tries to take on darktail alone, but she ultimately dies, the last thing she sees is alderpaw and sparkpaw desperately trying to help but they’re being held back by either darktail’s posse or clanmates who know that they would just die if they go over there too idk. just when hope seems lost, windclan comes running in and saves the day, with onestar catching darktail by surprise. i like the way they both go under and then never resurface so that can stay.

sparkpaw and alderpaw get their warrior names together, alderheart and sparkstorm, after their grandparents. in needletail’s honor they both aggressively advocate for warrior code reform, and for the clans to move the borders over so skyclan can have territory. maybe there’s some issues with shadowclan trying to reconstruct itself, and there’s some fighting between shadow and skyclan or whatever but the whole juniperclaw thing doesn’t happen, and skyclan doesn’t try to leave again.i think shadowkit is what finally stops the fighting between the two. but the point is. sparkpelt is important the whole time, and skyclan is there too.

Seven Feathers - HawkLeaf

I'm... gonna change some of these designs maybe.

Leafpool and Hawkfrost fell in love as Leafpaw was still, by name, an apprentice. She liked his ambition, and that little bit of Mothwing he has in him. He just liked her naivety, and the fact she was related to the leader. The same leader he tried to kill to get his brother in power, a plan that Leafpool and Mothwing had to stop, with Mothwing driving a pick in his heart. But, she was already bearing Half-clan Medic kittens, no matter if he was dead. Sparkstorm- the one who, by what everyone says, looks the most like her grandpa Firestar. Her jolly, insatiable curiosity is only rivaled by her ability to seemingly run for miles without being stopped, something she describes as "lightnings" hitting her legs and giving her all that energy.

Aldernose- the most anxious out of all of his siblings, he never wanted to become a Warrior, terrified at just the idea of fighting so the senior warrior (and great uncle) Twigtail (Longtail) took him under his wing to work in his garden. There, he seemed to thrive better, even helping in Medic duties from time to time, especially enjoying hunting for herbs, for he seems to have a knack for orienting himself.

Lionbloom- in Thunderclan, the spunky and confident Lionpaw seemed to have all the signs of a future Warrior, as he excelled in fighting, his blows knocking the wind out of his opponents immediately. But, abruptly, he ran into the Medicine Den in the night, not far from his ceremony, and asked to be made a Medic apprentice. Now, while working towards it, he's become snappier, but more somber, even malinconic at times. Yet, he now seems to have trouble tending to wounds without flinching...

Willowshine- Riverclan was so glad, after their Medic revealed she could not communicate to Starclan, they received an apprentice that was seemingly so easily connected to their ancestors. And even better, she seemed to always know what to say to cheer some poor cat up, from her patients to other cats who were ready to fight her clanamates over the border.

Following back Crowstorm’s (Crowfeather’s) lineage. This one is pretty brief and I’ve already posted a lot of the younger generations of this tree. But I thought showing some of the earlier parts of WindClan should get some attention.

As said before, check out my au tag for more of my family tree. I have just about every clan cat added to the whole tree but I’m slower at making head designs for them.

Leafshine and Meadowslip are siblings and Hickorynose and Hawkheart are siblings.

Sorrelshine has a single kit from an unknown cat, Runningbrook.

Ashfoot was originally a loner and is no longer the sibling of Quickstar (Onestar) and Morningflower (Check out their family tree here). While she was older, her apprenticeship falls around the same time as the two. 

Instead of LeafCrow, we have SquirrelCrow. The two are in a relationship around the same time as Leaf and Moth and have their kits around the same time. The SquirrelCrow kits are Alder, Spark, and Jay. (Check out my original AU post here)

After Squirrel and Crow split, Nightcloud approaches Crow and suggests they have kits. Night had supported Mudclaw during WindClan’s civil war and Crow needs to recement his loyalty after almost running away with a ThunderClan cat.

Runningbrook is the mother of Thistlepaw and Gorsetail.

Because Sparkstorm (Sparkpelt) is now much older than, and related to, Larksong, I’ve decided her mate is now Toadstep! They have Spark’s canonical litter. Toadstep and Flickerkit die during the Dark Forest battle.

I’ve named Breezeclaw’s (Breezepelt’s) siblings Eaglekit and Darkkit.

On the other hand, I’m not really understanding a lot of the aggressive reactions to the new Warriors book preview I’ve been seeing on twitter? Like people are getting angry that characters are acting xenophobic and being jerks about Nightheart’s choices. Like guys... yeah you’re not supposed to like it, the narrative is explicitly framing these opinions as bad lol

Honestly I’m really enjoying the much more grounded conflicts this new arc is setting up. It makes a lot of sense that some characters would react like this after the changes made to the Code and the still new arrival of Skyclan shifting everything around.

Will the writers fuck it up? Maybe, but they haven’t yet. I’ll take actual character conflicts and relationships over supernatural problems that end up flattening the characters’ personalities entirely any day.

EDIT: Okay also seeing people say that the Thunderclan cats are out of character in this book, which I also disagree with. Most of them are characters that have not had any personality up until this point; we never saw Finchlight or Myrtlebloom do or say anything before this, they were just background characters. I honestly don’t even think Sparkpelt is really out of character, she’s always been pretty brash and would unintentionally hurt Alderheart’s feelings in the first VOS book. She WAS compared favorably to Firestar growing up (Graystripe talks about how much she looks like him and is surprised that she isn’t named Sparkfire or Sparkstorm). I can easily see that she saw being compared to Firestar as a point of pride, a point she tries to instill in her children. She’s also very traditionalist; she’s one of the cats who initially was against Skyclan living around the lake and was a pretty harsh mentor to Twigbranch when she returned from living in Skyclan.

Parents also can feel very entitled to their children; a LOT of parents would react angrily when their kid changes their name for any reason. We haven’t seen much of Sparkpelt being a good, understanding person, she’s always been really hotheaded and kind of self centered. I absolutely think that it’s in character that she’s responding to Nightheart this way! I like that she’s a complicated person who doesn’t always react how we want her to, I like morally gray characters in my cat books.

In the Good Timeline AU (better AU name in the works), Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw have a full litter because they deserve it! The Good Timeline arc after Omen of the Stars centers on the five of them and how the Clans are changing after all of the nonsense that’s just happened.

Kithood

Flamepaw was given birth to by Sparkstorm, along with Finchkit, and Flickerkit. Though, Flickerkit was stillborn, and died shortly after his birth, but not before getting to meet his dying mother, Larksong. Because Larksong died right after he was born, he never got to meet his other parent.

This caused Sparkstorm, his other mother, to fall into a horrible state of depression, not bothering to care for her last two kits. Because of this, he was instead nursed by another nurser, Sorrelstripe, who had her kits coming soon. He and Finchkit were spoiled by the caretakers and Sorrelstripe when he was very young, but then when he was seven days old, ready to open his eyes, Sparkstorm decided to take care of her kittens.

When he grew around one moon old, the caretakers would tell him stories of Firestar. Fernsong told him stories of the mythological clans, while Daisy told him stories about legends that had spread around the twolegplace she had visited once.

They both then told him stories of Firestar, and how he was a legend and a hero to all the clans. Flamekit admired Firestar, his eyes shone everytime they spoke highly of him.

He thought; maybe one day, he could be like Firestar, too. When he asks Sparkstorm if he was named after the legendary warrior, a few heartbeats of silence echo around the nursery for a moment... until she finally answers;

"...No, I didn't name you after Firestar," xe told him. "It wasn't even my idea to name you Flamekit. Larksong thought that if we ever had a tom, we could name him Flamekit. I don't know the meaning behind your name... Only Larksong does."

Flamekit was disappointed. He felt sad that he wasn't actually named after Firestar, it also just... Didn't make sense to him. Everyone else thought he was named after Firestar, so why wasn't he actually named after him?

Flamekit pushed those thoughts away. He thought that Larksong must have named him after Firestar, that's why she chose his name as Flamekit!

For once he felt important. He believed, or he hoped, he was named after the legendary Firestar...

Apprenticeship

When he was later made into an apprentice during the imposter's reign, having Berrynose as his mentor, who had later died tragically in battle, so Lilyheart replaced him. He and Finchpaw both trained hard to become a warrior, but every time, Finchpaw would always win. She'd hunt better than him, she'd fight better than him, she even climbed better than him.

He felt jealous, how was he supposed to be the second-coming of Firestar when he lost everything to his littermate? He grew resentful of his siblings' success, and she was constantly praised by senior warriors, Myrtlepaw and Baypaw, and the elders.

But, something distracted him from his hatred, which was the reign of the imposter. He grew horrified once he found his mother, covered with blood and scratches, limping back to camp, and then flopping helplessly down.

He'd heard from some warriors that Bramblestar was being unfair, but he didn't listen to them, even after all of that. He could never believe Bramblestar would do such a thing to his mother, he just couldn't!

And then, his mother confronted Bramblestar, deciding to leave ThunderClan. He felt betrayed, she was abandoning her own clan! Firestar wouldn't want this! Worst of all, his sister was coming with her.

Sparkstorm turned to look at Flamepaw, and asked him if he'd like to join her. He declines, Firestar wouldn't want this.

Timeskip, after the events of ALitM, but before River, Flamepaw was finally good at something; hunting! Cats finally praised him for his catches, and he was starting to earn the respect from the senior warriors!

Though, he started to get a little cocky about the fact he was named after, and that he had the hunting skills of Firestar. And by a little cocky, that meant he was very cocky; constantly reminding Finchpaw, Myrtlepaw, and Baypaw of that fact, and when he was starting to grow a slight hint of dark orange, he took it as a sign... He was the second-coming of Firestar.

Character lore:

Redstar, formerly Redstreak was the second leader of Merryclan after Greenstar. She’s always been a tough cat, very smart and faithful, but suffers from lasting grief after the death of her mother Seeddusk, a cat very popular in the romance department but who always stayed loyal to Redstar’s father, Furledmask. Redstar had two siblings, the late Antlerfoot and Bugstripe. Redstar was mentored by the beautiful Sparkstorm and was a mentor herself to Podgorse, Marshspeckle, Henpelt and Berrypaw. Redstar’s mate was Jackalpelt, a former kittypet. She was a kind and empathetic cat with a strong connection to starclan. Jackalpelt sadly died from complications with a tail wound. Refstar suffered from a tail injury too, from falling rocks, leaving her with a scar. Jackalpelt had two apprentices, Forestpaw and Lilacflight. Redstar and Jackalpelt had seven kits together from 3 different litters, all still living up until recently. Palepelt, Russetstripe, Frozenfur, Doetail, Beamfoot, Sleetmoth and Badgerhaze. Redstar’s first born takes after Jackalpelt and was named after her. Palepelt was a charismatic cat and a fantastic teacher. Mentored by Greenspots and mentor to Lilacflight, taking over when Jackalpelt died. She took a mate in Condorpond and had one child, Hickorylarch. She is was also deputy after Greenspots’ retirement, but Russetstripe took over for her after her death via drowning. Russetstripe is a fierce warrior and a talented speaker, making him an ideal choice for future leader. He never turns away from a fight, earning a scar from a rogue and another from a snake. He was trained by Fallendapple and mentored Mossdust and Heathfoot. His brother Frozenfur was a warrior apprentice turned medicine cat in a time a great trouble and illness. He is a calm tempered cat, much unlike Russetstripe, and very smart due to the teachings of mentor Seanight, and he himself is training Ryepaw. His scars come from a eagle that tried to take him as a kit.

My favourite of Red and Jackal’s children is Doetail. She had a rough start to life. After an incident with a hare, she suffered from damaged eyes for ten moons, dealing with on and off infections before finally losing her sight completely shortly after becoming a warrior. That didn’t stop her from becoming a fantastic hunter and she never lost faith in her self or her abilities. She was also mentored by Greenspots. As an older warrior, she got frostbitten so badly that her mate had to amputate her leg as it was too damaged. Doetail’s mate, Bluefreckle, had an even more difficult childhood, possibly what drew the two cats to each other in the first place. Bluefreckle’s father, Darkstorm, died when her mother, Podgorse, was pregnant with her and her littermates. I wasn’t particularly invested in the family until this message appeared upon the kit’s birth. “Looking down at Darkstorm’s last gift to them, Podgorse vows to protect their new litter of 6 kits. As the sun tracks across the sky, Podgorse’s bleeding gets worse and worse. It was still worth it, Podgorse decided, even as the medicine cat fights an impossible battle to keep them out of Starclan. Still so worth it.” After Podgorse succumbed to the blood loss, I made my own vow to protect her kits at any cost, at least until the were made warriors. The kits in question are, Frogdawn, Sleekslip, Pearbite, Thornstorm, Mudfoot and Bluefreckle. A big ask to keep so many cats alive for twelve moons. Some are still alive today except for Thornstorm who died from water in his lungs, Frogspawn who died of a festering wound, Pearbite who drowned and Mudfoot who was buried alive in a landslide, but they all made it to be warriors like I promised. It was Bluefreckle who suffered the most challenges though. As a newborn kit, she was taken by a hawk, only barely being saved by another warrior. The claw marks she received that day would haunt her for her entire kit hood and apprenticeship. With a shortage of medicine cats, her wounds (and Doetail’s) refused to heal properly. A many moons long infection had her in and out of the medicine cat’s den and on the brink of death so often that she made a decision. To abandon her warrior training to become a healer so no one else would have to suffer like she did. She trained under Quailclaw from nine moons old and onward. Clearly the training paid off as she was left without so much as a scar from the hawk attack. Her smarts and charisma were an asset in the medicine cat’s den. On a patrol, she fell victim to a twoleg trap and has a permanently twisted leg to show for it. Bluefreckle and Doetail don’t have kits of their own yet, but they are aunt’s to Frozenfur and Mudfoot’s new litter, Cedarshade, Sandywhisper, Applebee and Spirecloud. As well as to Russetstripe and Marshspeckle’s Orangeface, Blightpuddle, Quietkit, Crookedkit, Dawnkit and Cinnamonkit.

Finally after many moons together full of both love and great hardship, Doetail and Bluefreckle had a litter of two adorable kits of their own, Hatchkit and Snakekit.

I haven't read TBC yet but I already know for certain that in my rewrite in my head, Needleclaw is the protag not Rootspring

hi, this is a random question that I thought about after starting your series! I was curious if there are any pre-series changes you wish you had fixed where you think the Erins messed up a good opportunity? such as characters you regret not bringing back or swapped out...i.e. Hollyleaf lived, but Lionblaze died in her place or something, and she is Cinderheart's mate instead? Or Squirrelflight became leader rather than Bramblestar and got with Jessi, or keeping Dandelionkit and Juniperkit alive. so along the lines of how you made Russetstar and Mudstar leaders (I love that! they are my favs!) to fit your plans, instead of Rowanstar and Onestar, and Jayfeather changing to be a warrior (I also love that!). Im only on your Thunder and Shadow, and liking your setup and minor changes, so the question randomly came to mind about what else you might've wished you'd done for the character swaps or "this character lives because I said so" ways. sorry this so random 😅

OOHH YEAH ABSOLUTELY After I started uploading TAQ I actually realized I REALLY wanted Hollystar qjwbsjxjx. It actually upsets me to this day that I didn't think about it sooner. And not that long ago I thought about Alderheart and Sparkstorm being HollyCinder's kits and I just 😭 I would've loved that. Other than that I'm actually pretty happy with what I came up with lol.
