My OUAT Rewatch -- S5E22 -- Only You

What did I just say a couple of episodes ago about the queer-baiting on this show? TWO EPISODES AGO!!!!

Also -- just a question -- if Emma and Killybunny are so awesome and wonderful, how come she only goes on road trips with REGINA??? And how come they’re always SO MUCH BETTER together????? (And did Regina just kind of low key admit she LOVES Emma? Cause I think she did.)

Alright, anyhoo, I’ll shut up about this because I and many others could rant for days and days on this crap. (BTW Regina, if your first impulse when seeing Hook alive was to rip his throat out, you should have gone with that. Seriously. We’d get over it.)

I just love Season 5 me. So joy-filled. [/sarcasm]

Can’t WAIT to see how Season 6 me is doing!

So many problems with this episode. SO SO MANY.

1. The pirate is now not dead. Whoopee.

2. Zelena gets to HUG ROLAND GOODBYE. Zelena. The lady who raped his dad gets a tender moment with Roland. But not Regina. Okay then.

3. Snow selling out Belle to an OBVIOUS villain. BELLE IS A PERSON. Way to “hero” there, Snow!

4. Rumple’s ‘evilest evil of all evils’ shtick is back for NO GOOD REASON. And boy is it stupid as fuck!

5. Emma yapping about Belle doesn’t love Rumple anymore, STFU Emma, did she fucking TELL YOU that? No, of course not! Sit down.

6. This episode was written by David Goodman. So yeah.

WTF things:

Since WHEN was Neal trying to destroy magic? Since fucking WHEN???? When was that a thing on this show???? NEVER, that’s when! He didn’t want to “destroy” magic, he wanted his FATHER to lose the dark one powers. I see you show, and I see your retcon bullshit.

So I guess Zelena is just in the hero column now, because WHY?

Fun fact: A&E claim that they did what they did with Belle to write her out because Emilie was pregnant. Note: They knew Emilie was pregnant WHEN THE SEASON BEGAN. Emilie was healthy and ready and willing to work the ENTIRE SEASON. They did not write IN her pregnancy, they wrote BELLE PREGNANT. Because Emilie is NO LONGER PREGNANT and her child is 4 months old when S6 starts filming. Also, Ginnifer Goodwin was pregnant this season too, and only a few weeks behind Emilie in her due date. Did you see SNOW getting fridged and put into a box? No, you did not. So EXPLAIN TO ME again how these fucking writers appreciate Belle and want to write for her. Go ahead . . . I’m waiting.

BTW, for those who don’t know, this and the next episode were aired back to back as the season finale. If memory serves me correctly, the next episode isn’t much better.

Im in a fandom in which one of the main characters is clearly a closeted gay man. He hasn’t said anything explicitly in regards to his sexuality, but he has shown attraction to multiple men. Both the creators and the actor have basically confirmed he’s gay. Today I encountered an anti who insisted that”it doesnt count”since he never explicitly states that hes gay. Do they want him to say directly into the camera Hi im a gay man? Its not even queerbaiting from the creators, hes just in the closet

I can not stand how bastardized the definition of queerbaiting has become, because it’s literally to the point where if your queer characters aren’t in a seven year long relationship from the beginning of the story then it’s just Bait.

And I get that people are sensitive now because we have been burned multiple times but like? Wait until a storyline has a chance to play out and pay off before you go shrieking about how the writers were just baiting us the entire time, please.

Ok let me just explain something. Nobody is upset that Adam is dead and that someones ship didnt become canon. You guys are really simplifying it and not listening to the actual complaints and have your rose tinted glasses on. Yes this is a story of war, people die, ect ect. But that's not the issue, it's much deeper and more insulting than a character dying.

So a few months ago, the voltron crew were like hyping up so much for the new season and its representation. They said shire was gay and had an defiance that we'd meet. And u know if a content creator says shit like they usually explore it.

Cut to when the new season is released. Adam and Shiro have one(1) conversation and they're having an argument. Here's where that is a bad idea from a writing standing point: this has no emotional effect on anyone. Like, first of all it's not even subtexted. They're stiff and mad and just look like roommates. We never see adam before this scene. We have no idea what their relationship was like before. And the general message there, accidental or not, is that gay people cant be happy with their partner. They always butt heads. But I guess they cant give off that message because they're too fucking cowardly to make them even touch each other or look at each other, let alone explicitly state they're gay.

I'm not sayi g u cant be gay without a partner. God, that is not what anyone is saying. I'm saying they're doing shiro dirty and never fucking stated that ANYONE IS QUEER. (This includes pidge, because her gender arc thing was a huge ass cop out. They could have explored maybe a trans man pidge, a trans girl pidge, nonbinary pidge or genderfluid pidge. But no they pulled a classic shes the man and made her a trans coded cis girl.)

The fans arent mad at adam dying. Look if adam had more lines, an actual relationship with shiro on screen, and his death served for some sort of plot or character development, I can guarantee u no one would be as absolutely livid as we are now. He gets two scenes and hes a bitch in the first and dies in the next. The shiro doesnt even liek bat an eye. He monotony says adam at his grave thingy and is on his way like he didnt just lose the man he was gonna marry.

Yes people die in a war. Yes things dont always work out for everyone. People die, people drift apart, some people arent good for each other blah blah blah. But here's the thing, the crew that worked on this show are basically the all seeing gods of this universe ok. They have the power to pick a character off and give that characters death meaning. But here they didnt choose a character to die. They MADE a character only for him to die and they decided the character that was born to die has to be a gay man. They had two gay men and they thought the best course of action after hyping the shit out of their show and clearly pandering to the lgbt youths desperately starving for any kind of positive representation.

Then only to get a slap in the face after getting THAT NONSENSE. yes people die in a war, but they had the power to pick and choose who dies in said war.

If you're cis het, I doubt this hurts as much as it does to the lgbt fans. When I was growing up, lesbian was a bad word. I thought if you said lesbian you would go to hell. On TV everyone was straight and normal, but the gays got made fun off all the time. They were the butt of jokes, used to make a point on how weird and disgusting they are. Very rarely were there gay movies or gay characters in a movie that didnt end up dying from aids, being killed for being gay, separating from their lover cuz being gay "sucks", or realizing they were gay only for it to be a phase. And as a child this sends me the message that if you are gay, you are disgusting and will never be happy. Straight people love getting off on gay misery and thinking that counts as representation. They get brownie points for killing off their gay characters.

But you know what these movies surprisingly do better than voltron did. They actually give their gay characters fucking personality and lines. Sometimes if a Straight is feeling first theylly actually use the word gay! But what voltron did was absolutely unacceptable. I'm not defending the fucking homophobic movies. I'm sayi g the bar is so so so so low that its hitting the ground and DreamWorks thought "hey if I take this jackhammer and make the worst fucking rep that anyone has seen in a while, fhats still representation and the gays will love it!"

I'm not even a goddamn fan of the show and I'm upset. My boyfriend had me marathon with him and we were both so ficking pissed.

AND ANOTHER THING!!! some of yall dont know what queerbating actually is??? Yall seem to think queer baiting is teasing your ship and not instantly becoming canon??? No it's the advertisement team looking at the scraps that lgbt get in regards to media and shoving a huuuuuuge Turkey leg in their face and then proceeding to throw it in the trash. What I mean by this is that when an advertisement team and production team realizes that a lot of queer teens are their main audience, they'll try to like "introduce" gay shit. Sometimes you get sexy lesbians only there for men to leer at. Sometimes it's two very visibly gay coded men who are bffs and then the writers give both girlfriends. And sometimes its telling fans that u have representation only to take it away immediately.

No one's upset about one person dying. No one's upset about a gay person dying. No one's upset that their ship isnt canon. No one's upset that this isnt a show for romance. No one's upset that we didnt "get the queer content we wanted."

We're upset that we didnt get ANY queer representation. We are livid that we only know shiro is gay from word of god and that people who dont have that context wont know that they were a gay couple. I'm mad that they took the only other gay man in the whole entire series, refused to even say anything obviously gay and or romantic and then killed off adam and called that diversity.

The crew seems to think gay people are just bitter or have no personality outside being gay. Once you show me a stable,happy, more than two lines obviously and proudly queer character then I'll shut up.(again if u mention pidge, fuck off)

And to the people sayi g were acting like shiro died, well here's the thing they've killed this motherfucker like 4 times and if that doesnt speak volumes of how much they enjoy making Gay characters suffer idk how to help you. ALSO DONT ACT LIKE SHIRO IS EXPLICITLY GAY BECAUSE HE IS NOT EVEN SUBTEXT GAY OR QUEERCODED SO SHUT UP AMD LISTEN TO THE LGBT PEOPLE WHEN THEYRE MAD.

My point is that if that is all queerbaiting is: Then it means nothing. Gay people don’t get special treatment, just like straight people don’t get special treatment.

Yeah, the issue is that term implies that the creators teased an LGBT pairing but never delivered one. If they deliver but not the one you wanted: That doesn’t look like queerbaiting to me. It just looks like another sunk ship.

And to make my point clearer: Bumbleby doesn’t really...have any canonical ship tease or build up. Everything you listed was interpretation and that...doesn’t count since anyone can interpret anything from an piece of media.

I didnt want this Post to be about another Ship war i just Wanted to point out that something that gets in your words like being okay with Ghosts has some reason with it. Thats why i decided to Not go into the other reasons and just Make a Quick overview of some that came at the Front of my head.

That might be our difference: I almost never consider queerbaiting to have a valid reasoning. That just because it may have a reason to exist doesn’t mean it actually does or that it’s a good reason.

And AGAIN when did i say that? Look you appereantly seem to misunderstand some Things so Let me explain…

This Post was mainly just me trying to Show that there ARE reasons behind the overused queerbait threat. Can it be overused or wrongly used? Yes of course but there is some sort of ground work set that DOES have a Form of valid argument.

Okay then. As for me: those reasons don’t work. Why? Because the word carries an implication of double standards against LGBT people but from a shipping perspective, BB is being treated the same as what is considered it’s straight counterpart.

For me it wouldnt count as queerbaiting till they just Make Fun of bumblebee in the Show: something like Sun kissing Blake while ridiculing Yang. (THAT would be something we’re i would snap but mainly because Yang is my favorite character and she doesnt deserve any more shit, but thats beside the point)

Yeah, that is shitty no matter what.

About Interpretation… You know this works both ways right? All the interactions of Sun and Blake can be seen as friendship too. (As a side Note Adam didnt even aknowledge Sun existed till he saw him at haven, just felt like saying that)

For the sake of this discussion, I agree. ...I have no stake in this war aside from whatever gets the writer’s the least hate. And that’d probably be no ships canon at all.

Anyway if you want to Really reopen this already closed thing and try and turn this into a Ship war, why dont you just Message me personally when i get the Time between eating, sleeping, work and living i answer to it and we talk like this like the civilised humans we are. Besides this Can be seen by everyone and i think titan and katie are just about as done with this thing as i was. (Very Happy this got resolved peacefully btw)

I had no idea this was finished at the time.

Hell I chewed Titan out for his outburst since he’s a friend right after that post.

This was just apparently my toxic fandom paranoia going out of control. Sorry this got so bad.

actually genuinely peeved that dating sims that exclusively involve gay men are marketed as “queer” games cuz i have to check every time and that sucks. dont bait me with “queer orcs”, “queer werewolves” if its just gonna be about dudes. like, those games are valid (probably? idk i havent played them) and its good that theyre out there but dont obscure what youre actually selling.

also lesbian dating sims that arent gross fetishizing shit by dudes for dudes? with actual production value? where are they? wheremst??? getting my D&D DM to let my character smooch Satan doesnt count.

once someone tried to tell me that girl meets world show got into autism and yeah, it did, BUT the episode was about farkle /thinking/ he had aspergers. disney didnt even make a main character autistic and this person was talking about how great it was but literally when farkle brings up seeing if he has aspergers literally the two girls and the other guy start telling him how he isnt, then at the end it was revealed that a different girl has aspergers and they told her to transfer out of pt 1

pt 2 fuck i forgot what i said before but i remember specifically at the part where maya immediately says you dont after farkle tells them that he might have aspergers my cousin turned to me (who has autism) and said 'well this made me feel so much better about my autism' because after he brings it up theyre convincing himself that he doesnt have it. my cousin was looking forward to seeing it bc he overheard someone talk about how it deals with that shit and it made me a lil angry that disney

pt 3 made a side character autistic (that appears in four episode throughout the whole series) and didnt make a main character, that appears in every damn episode autistic and people talk about how it 'touched /so/ much on autism' mhm, made my cousin more ashamed of his autism more than he already is. im sorry this is a stupid rant but that person telling me that girl meets world touched on autism /so/ much just made my blood boil

and its the same with mental illness and autism and sexism like wtf one convo or a background character doesn’t fucking count, queer baiting doesnt fucking count, give us good representation! give us actual autistic characters that are well written and important and give us gay characters that are more then just gay, give us women who are not flat and just a love interest, give us poc characters and mentally ill characters and fucking real ass characters that are well written and fuckinggggg...im not bitter
