Is Sandgorse still abusive in BB? If so does he still save Sparrow? Idk I think it'd be a neat thing for Talltail to brood on and move past once realizing the truth. Like just because your abuser did a "Good Thing tm" doesn't mean you have to forgive them or that all of a sudden it excuses their past a tion towards you.
Or did you remove this plot beat entirely? If so I don't blame you :P
Weird that Tumblr search isn't giving me all the stuff I tagged :/ hopefully after finals are done I can compile a 1st draft/The Story So Far for the rework of Tallstar’s Revenge
It's now called TALLSTAR’S COLLAPSE. It is actually a story I am rewriting with tragedy in mind. It's about Talltail fleeing WindClan with his starcrossed lover, Sparrow, only to eventually be drawn back to it where he becomes a perpetuator of all the things that made him leave.
To answer your question; Yes, and. Sandgorse is abusive and there's a LOT of nuance to this situation. I'm not sure if he still saves "Sparrow" though because I have waaaay more of a point in mind with Tallstar’s tumultuous relationship to him.
Summary of changes,
Tallstar's Collapse
Sparrow is the Clanmew name Jake takes when his group interacts with WindClan. His first language is actually a dialect of Townmew!
(Also Firestar has no known father in BB)
His group is nomadic. They go from place to place trading goods. I need a name for both them and their cultural "cluster" but in my head, Jake's family is the Algernauts because Algernon is the current leader
It's important the Algernauts are extremely endearing because leaving them is VERY painful
(and something i want to frame as the wrong choice for tallstar, emotionally)
WindClan is in a very sensitive period of its history. Before Tallstar was born, Heatherstar began the Mothermouth Moorland War, to take a very large parcel of land from ShadowClan. A good 1/5th of it.
Naturally this is a huge project and incredibly ambitious. Sacrifices Must Be Made
The sacrifice she has chosen to make is the death of tunneling. Because she's smothering it.
Tunneling is PEACEFUL, defensive at best. You can't dig them in a floodplain, they would be useless for holding the Mothermouth Moorland territory
Tallkit is born into a terrible position. Son of the head tunneler, mother in a terrible depression, and Heatherstar trying to pry a wedge between the "future" and the "past"
Im also planning to change his name. He was born Slowworm-Kit, which has a connotation of cleverness in Clanmew. To bully him, Shrewpaw calls him Wormtail, because Slowworms drop their tails if pulled. It means "you will get trapped in a cave-in, and when they pull your tail, it'll fall off"
But it doesn't translate well into English... so I'm not sure what his Heatherstar-given warrior name would be. Wormwing or Wormleap maybe, like he "defied fate" to become a wonderful moor-runner...
Or maybe the prefix is Drop? Droptail as the mean bully name and Dropflight as the warrior name...
Anyway, when he returns, Heatherstar welcomes back the extra claws and honors the lesson he learned with "Talltale." In Clanmew this is "Story-travelled," his leader name meaning "Tale-star."
Anyway. Back to the cat drama
Talltail (name pending) is in a tight spot. I kind of want to show everyone being a victim except Heatherstar herself, who has all the power in this situation.
Not that it excuses anyone
Sandgorse is watching something he loves dying, an ancient tradition passed down for generations. He is trying to force his son into a position he shouldn't HAVE to occupy, but his child is the one thing he might have any control over
(Until Tall breaks it ofc)
Tallpaw was just a kid. He needed to take out his bullying and the stress on something, and that was usually his mother and the concept of tunneling
Palebird has been completely neglected by her mate as he focuses on the person he WANTS his kid to be. She NAMED a Fading Kit, a serious social taboo, and even the support of the nursery and Woolytail can't pull her out before Tall's kithood is over
Heatherstar is using Tallpaw as a political pawn and Tallpaw is too young and hurt to realize it. He was given to her sister, Dawnstripe, and endlessly praised for his skill and talent in a time where he NEEDED positive feedback
Which is making his relationships with his parents worse
All the while, there's VIOLENCE. Regular raids and counterstrikes. Cats die and get injured, and it only escalates as Tall gets older and Cedarstar is reaching the end of his lives, hoping to end the conflict before then
And in all this chaos and uncertainty, there comes Sparrow.
Just a trader and an honored guest, there's been lots of these nomadic visitors since the time of Windstar herself, but they've become quite rare.
When Sandgorse dies suddenly in that collapse (TITLE DROP) Talltail has the push he finally needs. It's too much. He can't process this
Sparrow begs him to leave with them, they don't even need to confront anyone, just come!
IF IT SUCKS HIT DA BRICKS
I have tons of really nice little things planned for this part of the story. It's several chapters of Talltail being free.
He engages in the funeral rites of Wee Hen, asking if he may sit vigil for her. His new family is honored to allow it, Reena even tries to do it too and falls asleep
(Little sister energy)
They meet all sorts of people and go to many places. Talltail learns that the world is vast, and there's an endless amount of knowledge out here.
It all starts crashing down when him and Jake find a litter of abandoned kittens, and become parents.
They're a few moons old.. around the same age as his halfsibs back home.
It starts bringing back memories. He wonders how they're doing. If they made a nice grave for Sandgorse...
The sudden longing for his own mother strikes him like lightning.
For the first time in eons, he feels GUILT over leaving. He thought it was over-- he's living his own life now!
But what if they're hurt? What if there was a battle and he couldn't help? What if his mentor died and he didn't even know?
What kind of a horrible son doesn't even say goodbye?
The problems that made him leave seem so small now, and the homesickness is like acid leaking from his stomach, dissolving his guts and leaving him hollow
He's raising kits who will never know what it means to earn a title, or have a permanent home, or--
(Any of the other things he should have learned don't have meaning outside of clan culture. Things they wouldn't miss.)
He cherishes the memories he makes here, raising children with his mate, but something turns inside of Talltail. Like the groaning ache of a hundred stones on top of a decaying mineshaft
The REAL collapse is this. An existential crisis Talltail can't escape from.
And eventually, it comes tumbling down with one last, horrible nightmare.
In his dream, he came home only to find the sandy camp abandoned, the dens decrepit, full of musty scent and cobwebs.
Sandgorse was there. And they talked.
His dad was gruff as always, disappointed. But he didn't say anything the real Sandgorse would say.
The nightmare said, "You really did turn out like me. We both left your mother when she needed us. Turned our backs on our leader. And now we're both dead to WindClan."
Tall wakes up crying. Jake is there to comfort him, but the conversation they have is sad.
Jake tries to tell him that's all not true, and even if it WAS his dad, his dad sucked and would only say that to hurt him!
But... Tall can't believe it. Jake's right but also wrong. He IS all those horrible things.
And...... how can jake ever Understand? He does not know the Bonds of a Clan cat
(thought terminating cliche. Outsiders Cant Understand Our Bonds.)
He stays a few more days, but that nightmare was the end. And everyone sees the change.
The kits are apprentice-aged. He stayed until they would be old enough to keep up with the Algernauts.
And he says goodbye. He won't ever leave without saying goodbye ever again.
Jake says it doesn't have to be goodbye, he'll always love him, and they can visit! They can see each other again!
And Tall says yes. That this isn't the end. It's... see you later, my love.
(...but they both know how violent it's getting between Wind and Shadow. It isn't safe to visit.)
It is the end. But neither can admit it.
But after Tall is a fair distance away, one of his kits tackles him.
POSSIBLY Post-Tallstar's Collapse
Not sure if I'd put these in a novella or still make it part of it, but these are all directly related to the fallout of Tallstar's Collapse
Most likely is that there would be overlap between this and Brokenstar's Cataclysm, so the same events would be seen in different perspectives.
The kit's name is Fly. Tall has to wait for him to catch his breath and stop crying before they can talk.
Fly already lost parents before. He says he knows he can't make his dads stay together, "But PLEASE, papa, let me choose where I go this time!"
How could he say no? How could he send his son away after a plea like that?
He told him it would be hard. That he would be trained. That there would be dangerous fights.
Fly didn't care, he said he could be strong. He could do anything he needed to.
So... Tall took him to WindClan, where he became Flypaw. He became the warrior he promised he would be.
And Tall didn't notice how much the kid was changing until it was too late. Flytail took to it as if he was Clanborn-- but had to work twice as hard, fight thrice as viciously.
Though Talltail was graced with an Honor Title and open arms, he'd adopted his greatest rival.
Fly and Tall started competing for deputyship as soon as they finished training apprentices; Heatherstar had a fondness for the two of them.
In the end, Talltail won the spot by springing into action and saving Heatherstar's young nephew, a little golden tabby, from an adder.
Flytail continued as one of the more aggressive warriors in the Clan, surviving increasingly violent and bitter battles, until it came to a head in Heatherstar's Last Stand.
Her final battle as an old leader was a gruesome, definitive curbstomp in the last strategic point ShadowClan held above Carrionplace.
One of the losses was Lizardstripe-- neck snapped in Flytail's jaws.
Runningnose, and by extension, the oak-tree to his long-shadow, Brokentail, remembered this. Especially when Runningnose's father Mudfoot collapsed later that year.
As Talltail took leadership from the dying Heatherstar, a familiar regretful guilt wormed into his belly.
His son Flytail stood with a bloody mouth, eyes wet with sorrow, looking down at the leader Talltail once loved almost as much. Appreciating her sacrifice.
(secretly he didnt choose Deadfoot as his deputy just for his honor title or the battle move he invented... he chose him because there was a shocked, sorrowful look in his eyes at the fallen shadowclan cat. Sympathy seems more honorable in this moment.)
Tallstar is a wise leader... but his fatal flaw is naivety. How could he think he'd bring his son into WindClan, and not see the boy grow into a ferocious Warrior?
And naivety is what he displayed when he offered Raggedstar a peace deal. WindClan would keep the land, but they would pay a small tax of rabbits over the winter.
It was unprecedented. It was merciful. It was stupid.
When the winter was over, what would stop them from pushing further south?
Would they trade back the frogs and the flax, come summer?
On the blood and bones of so many warriors? As if giving up was ever an option?
Brokentail killed his father to prevent him from taking the deal, and reawakened Ripplestar's War Tactics.
BURN the peat. KILL the prey. OFFENSE is defense. A dead warrior is 10 less claws. A dead apprentice is 1 less warrior.
Stolen kittens are 1 more warrior on your own side.
Tallstar paid the ultimate price for letting Flytail follow him home that day. On the night of the massacre, Flytail went down fighting alongside a mate and a daughter. Dogpiled by Tangleburr and her squadron in revenge for Lizardstripe and Mudfoot.
Tallstar's granddaughter Stoneclaw, made a warrior and sitting for her vigil on that night, was the sole survivor of the little family.
The event stopped her from speaking again, like she's still sitting vigil.
Tallstar is a character who almost broke free of the control of the Clans. For a brief moment of his life, he was free.
He thought maybe he could change things a little, protect his Clanmates from the battles by being part of them, have the Mothermouth Moorland and protect the peace at the same time. But you CAN'T.
You can't fix broken systems without fundamentally changing them. He thought he could be a nice warlord and that would work on the Clan whose territory he had inherited. Power acts through people just as much as they act through power.
And that's Tallstar. He who travels the world, yet is never able to go far enough. Always falling just a little short of the point, believing that love and mercy is enough while blissfully ignorant of the pressures of pride and power.
Into this role, as a successor to this leader, Onestar is unwillingly thrust.

For the sake of my SANITY I'm going to have to make a timeline for the Tales From The Forest (Yellowfang's Horror, Tallstar's Rage, Crookedstar's Promise and Bluestar's Prophecy)
Moonflower and Goosefeather are born
Sunstar and Featherwhisker are born
One-eye is born. Speckletail is no longer her biological sister, but is adopted when Whitekit is 5 moons old. No one knows who her parents are.
Doestar dies during the Great Hunger. She BURNED through her lives, one of the shortest 9-lived leaderships there is.
Pinestar meets Shanty. Not Jake.
Halftail is born.
Shrewclaw and Barkface are born.
Tallstar and Finchkit are born.
Raggedstar and Scorchwind are born.
Rowanberry, Yellowfang and Nutwhisker are born.
Brackenwing and Sandgorse die.
Heatherstar finds her excuse and closes the tunnels to focus on warfare. She has a personal vendetta against Cedarstar and she'll drag Windclan with her if she must.
Leopardfoot and Patchpelt are born.
Talltail finds Sparrow but doesn't kill him. Meanwhile, Yellowfang and her siblings are made into apprentices, Shadowclan steals prey and Windclan loses the battle when they fight with the death of Shrewclaw.
Raggedpaw is made into Raggedpelt from this act. Cedarstar rewarding him for killing Shrewclaw, Heatherstar's apprentice.
Later in the same winter, Riverclan's camp floods and kills Duskwater, but Stormkit and Oakkit are born.
Hopkit is renamed Deadpaw, and though he is cheerful, cats of Windclan are horrified and angry with Heatherstar. They want a leader who isn't so arrogant.
Seeing... Something.... Near Stormkit, Goosefeather snaps, snarling at him and scaring him. He breaks his jaw but in a twist of fate, a murky spirit brings him out of the water... Subverting a "Canon Event".
Later that day, Bluestar and Snowflower are born.
Stormkit runs off in shame only to meet the Barn Gang and learn how to use his jaw better.
Thistleclaw, Sweetberry, and Rosetail are born.
Stormkit returns half a moon later, and Rainflower demands that he be punished with the name she picked. Hailstar names him CrookedPAW, an early apprentice (he is ready) but turns and names his mother Rotflower, saying she can have her name back when she gets rid of the rot in her heart.
Yellowfang is made a Warrior and becomes mates with Raggedpelt when she saves his life, but she discovers that she has Forced Physical Empathy. Russetfur and Boulder join Shadowclan.
Oakkit is made an apprentice a week early after he and Crookedpaw find and save Willowkit and Graykit.
Lionheart and Goldenflower are given to Speckletail, who had a stillborn litter. (Mintkit and Pigeonkit).
Goosefeather gets his vision of Moonflower's death. He fakes the Windclan sign, sending them into battle. He tells Moonflower that he trusts her the most with the hardest job, sending her into Hawkheart's den...
Reedfeather takes Willowkit and Graykit.
Sagewhisker puts pressure on Yellowfang to be a medicine cat. Shadowclan is attacked by Proto-Bloodclan/Ex - Blood Seekers to 'rescue' Russetfur and Boulder. After the battle, Stonetooth retires and Raggedpelt is made deputy despite protests that he hasn't had an apprentice yet - but Leader's Word Is Law. Meanwhile...
Yellowfang concedes the night after to become a medicine cat, but she and Raggedpelt fight before she suggests being secret mates. No one has to know. Sagewhisker is EXTREMELY anti- med cats having mates, but Sagewhisker also tricked her by only teaching her how to suppress her power AFTER Yellowfang agreed to be a medicine cat. Meanwhile...
Pinestar meets with Shanty again, eating kibble and loving the twoleg den she shows him. MEANWHILE.
Reedfeather is murdered by Hailstar, and the kits are brought home. Riverclan would die for kits with even a drop of Riverclan blood in their veins.
Pinestar gets a sign from Doestar that a child of his will have great power, and potential to destroy the Clans.
Bluepaw and Snowpaw receive their warrior names. Snowflower and Bluemoon. Crookedpaw becomes Crookedjaw.
Tigerstar, Nightkit and Mistfang are born.
Brightsky dies giving birth to Leopardstar, Carpkit, Waterfern, and Oatkit.
Yellowfang realizes she is pregnant.
Frostfur is born, Brindleface is found in the forest days later and the 2 are raised in the nursery together.
Pinestar leaves Thunderclan to be a kittypet, preventing Sunfall from getting any lives.
Socks, Smoke, and Scourge are born.
Stormtail and Dappletail have kits. Cricketfang and Featherkit. Featherkit is deaf, but passes from Fading Kitten syndrome.
Willowpelt is born.
Yellowfang takes care of Cloudpaw and earns her full name.
Spottedleaf and Redtail are born.
Snowflower is struck on the thunderpath and killed after chasing a Shadowclan patrol.
Tigerpaw sets his own future in motion, beating Tiny within an inch of his life.
Lizardstripe gives birth to Tangleburr, Deerfoot, Runningnose, and Bristlepaw.
Yellowfang gives birth to Brokenstar, Wishkit, and Hopekit. Wishkit is the stillborn, Hopekit is the one who passes after 20 minutes. Brokenkit has a horrible relationship with his foster family. Mudclaw hits him behind everyone's back, Bristlekit, Tanglekit and Deerkit bully him relentlessly, and while Lizardstripe is no longer a physically abusive Bad Mom, she isn't very attentive, and Raggedpelt is no help, allowing it to happen so long as Yellowfang stays away.
Blackpaw makes friends with Brokenkit, and when Brokenkit becomes an apprentice with his siblings, Brokenpaw kills Bristlepaw, pushing him over the gorge. Blackpaw inadvertently covers for him without understanding what happened.
Sagewhisker has a heart attack.
Cedarstar passes from kidney failure and old age.
Raggedstar is leader and names Foxheart his deputy, taking her as a mate to hurt Yellowfang.
Greencough sweeps, killing Lizardfang, Mudclaw, and taking Raggedstar's first life.
Rotflower dies.
Mudfur and Adderfang duel, and Mudfur kicks his ass before becoming a medicine cat. Thistleclaw, growing more hateful towards Riverclan but also towards the weak, kills Adderfang. Sparrowpelt is made temporary Deputy but it's clear he doesn't like it.
Shellheart has a painful lump in his chest, he retires. Crookedjaw is made deputy.
Spottedpaw and Tigerpaw are best of friends with mutual crushes, but neither can act on them.
Brokentail is given his name early, and he tries to kill Tanglepaw only to be stopped at the last second by Yellowfang.
Tigerclaw saves Redpaw from a hawk.
Bluemoon gets pregnant at Fourtrees.
Foxheart dies. Frogtail is made deputy, he mentored Flintfang.
Crookedstar ascends to leadership, rejecting Rotflower's life, leaving him with 8 instead of 9 and leaving her in the Dark Forest.
Mistystar, Stonefur, and Mosskit are born. Bluemoon genuinely becomes mates with Thrushpelt. She is poly.
Morningkit, Swancall, and Splashkit are born. Morningkit and Splashkit do not survive their first night however.
Mosskit dies on the way to Riverclan.
Heatherstar dies from Greencough, she is the only victim that season.
Bluemoon becomes Deputy. Sunstar was under a huge amount of pressure to make Thistleclaw deputy. Everyone in the clan liked him.
Thunderclan and Windclan tensions begin, and a battle nearly breaks out, but Tallstar does not want to have unnecessary fights. Redtail no longer follows Tigerclaw, seeing his toxic influence.
Ashfoot is born.
Onestar is born.
Morningflower is born. The 3 are best friends.
Longtail and Heatherwish are born to Patchpelt and Bluebellfur. Sadly, Bluebellfur dies during their birth.
Bloodclan has kicked into full swing. Scourge throws Ruby and Socks out. Socks starves, Ruby is found and becomes Smoke.
Sunstar sacrifices his single life to save Thunderclan from a huge dog.
Whitetail is born.
Goosefeather dies from a brain infection and dementia. His last words? "Fire... Fire..."
Brushpaw becomes Brushclaw, but Tansypaw hates being wild and leaves with Bailey.
Onewhisker gets more and more enamored with kittypet life, but pushes it down. For now...
Willowkit, Silverstream, and Minnowkit are born, but Willowkit and Minnowkit pass the day after their mother dies. Crookedstar has PPD and doesn't want to be around Silverkit for the first half-moon.
Frogtail dies. Brokentail is made deputy. When protests rise, Raggedstar gets almost violent. Leader's Word Is LAW. Who cares what you think? When Yellowfang tries to raise personal concerns, he hits her. When he comes crying to her, she says "what do you want me to do?"
Leopardfoot is killed, by what? I can't say. She just... Didn't wake up one day.
Dustpelt, Ravenpaw, and Cherryshine are born.
Sandstorm is found in the woods by Redtail and Runningwind. She is nursed by all Queens, but collides calling Redtail and Runningwind her dads.
Brokentail kills Raggedstar.
Thunderclan is struck by a Greencough plague, killing Robinwing, Fuzzypelt, Thrushpelt, Featherwhisker, Stonepelt, Windflight, and Poppydawn.
Riverclan beats Thunderclan in a Sunningrocks battle, Spottedleaf gets the Fire Alone Prophecy.
Windclan are raided and driven out, some Windclan cats flee too far.
Brokenstar exiles Yellowfang.
Cherrypaw fights off a fox by herself while returning from her visit to the Moonstone and is named Cherryshine due to this.
Tigerclaw murders Redtail. Meanwhile...
Rusty becomes Firepaw.

Why I'm a Froststar Truther
(Spoilers for all currently released A Starless Clan books below.)
I wanted to lay out all the evidence for why I believe that Frostpaw will end up the leader of RiverClan by the end of ASC. I’ve formatted my arguments into their own points below! But, for the sake of a fair discussion, first I think I want to start with the reasons against Frostpaw.
Reasons Against:
1. She’s too young/inexperienced.
Honestly, I think this is the strongest point against Frostpaw ending up as leader. The books have told us that Frostpaw and her siblings are now considered to be warrior aged (despite timeline inconsistencies,) but Frostpaw is still a young cat. In TBC, Bristlefrost was also considered “too young” to be deputy by many characters in the story.
However, what I will say in Frostpaw’s defense here, is though she is young, she is not inexperienced. Her journey to the Park and back and time in exile from RiverClan has given her a lot of experience that many of her Clanmates lack. And, although she is young, she has also gained the respect of many other Clans/their leaders due to her bravery with spying on Splashtail and helping WindClan during the storm. It is also not unprecedented for a young cat to become deputy/leader. (Look no farther than Firestar— a cat who ASC brings up frequently… almost as if the writers are trying to make a point about something? See my point 2 in reasons in favor below.)
2. Frostpaw wants to be a medicine cat.
I’m honestly not sure if this is even true (I elaborate in my reasons in favor of Frostpaw below.) In fact, I’d argue that if we compare Frostpaw’s desire to be a medicine cat to Mothwing’s (another contender for leadership,) I think Mothwing likes being a medicine cat WAY more than Frostpaw. We know that Mothwing chose to be one after first training to be a warrior and has never faltered on that decision in the years since. Even after the difficulties Mothwing faced as a medicine cat who doesn’t believe in StarClan, she has always persisted because she loves it so much.
3. If Frostpaw becomes leader, RiverClan will be left without a medicine cat with a connection to StarClan.
I think the books hint that this is not the case (see point 4 below for more thoughts.)
Reasons in favor:
1. Frostpaw was “never meant to be a medicine cat.”
Although Frostpaw has a strong StarClan connection now, she is confirmed by the books to have “never meant to be a medicine cat.” The exact scene where this happens in the prologue of Thunder is quoted here:
“This wasn’t her destiny!” Thunderstar mewed imploringly. “She was never meant to be a medicine cat.”
“No.” Riverstar’s tail twitched. “But things have changed. If RiverClan is to survive, it needs a messenger. A powerful messenger.”
This wording here around Frostpaw being a “messenger” is ambiguous enough that it could mean that she still isn’t supposed to be a medicine cat despite her (now real) connection to StarClan. Or it could mean that her fate was changed by necessity so that she is supposed to be a medicine cat now.
I would argue that the former case is more likely than the latter because Warriors books as a whole are extremely deterministic— we have never had a confirmed case where cats have been able to escape or change their fate. All prophecy works that way in the books. For example, characters like Brokenstar and Tigerstar were declared to be murderous tyrants from their births, and there was no escaping that fate for them.
Therefore, for the internal logic of the Warriors world to remain consistent, then I think Frostpaw’s destiny still is not to be a medicine cat. (Also if they just wanted Frostpaw to be a medicine cat, why did Riverstar respond by calling her a “messenger” rather than just plainly calling her a “medicine cat?” Or “a medicine cat with a StarClan connection?”)
2. There are strong parallels between Firestar’s and Frostpaw’s stories.
The plot of ASC contains very obvious parallels to the first arc. They are both stories about a young protagonist learning the “true” ways of their Clan, uncovering treachery within their Clan, in which an evil cat wants to become leader of their Clan, (treachery which their Clanmates initially do not believe,) and then working to defeat this traitor. These two protagonists both also have strong connections to StarClan, with a StarClan guide who sends them omens and prophecies to assist them on their journey. The only difference is that Frostpaw is currently training to be a medicine cat and Firestar was a warrior. But, their paths look very much the same, and so I feel like their destinations will ultimately be the same too.
3. Additional Foreshadowing.
If the parallels to the first arc aren’t convincing enough foreshadowing, the books contain a lot of other hints that Frostpaw’s ultimate role is as the leader. Besides what I already mentioned about Frostpaw’s fate not being that of a medicine cat, many of Frostpaw’s interactions with Riverstar point to her being his chosen for leader.
Riverstar sends Frostpaw on a journey of self-discovery to the park in order for her to heal and learn what makes a good leader. The good leadership traits that Frostpaw learns about, she possesses herself. While at the park, Frostpaw also realizes that RiverClan needs a leader who can guide them in the old/true ways of their Clan (through meditation and the like,) but she is the only RiverClan cat who knows these “old ways.” So who else would teach RiverClan them but her?
Frostpaw is devoted to StarClan and wants to do what she perceives that they want, but she personally is not that attached to being a medicine cat, as seen by her enjoying her time training as a warrior. It’s not until Frostpaw starts to get real visions that she starts to believe that she needs to be a medicine cat (not because Riverstar told her— just because she assumes that having a connection to StarClan automatically means she needs to be medicine cat, although Firestar’s story shows that’s not the case.)
Riverstar appears to Frostpaw during Splashtail’s “leadership ceremony.” If the purpose of this scene was just for Frostpaw to prove to Puddleshine that Splashtail was evil, then Splashtail telling Podlight about all his evil plans and mocking StarClan aloud would have done that. But instead, the writers went a step further and had Riverstar appear and bow his head to Frostpaw during the “leadership ceremony," as if implying “this wasn’t meant for him, it’s meant for you.”
4. Bee is going to come back into the story.
Bee’s vision of standing on a frozen river with a lot of cats watching him is too obviously connected to RiverClan to mean nothing. With Wasp returning to the park with news about the trouble that's happening, the books have perfectly set up an opportunity for Wasp and Bee (or Bee alone) to go back to the Clans to help. Since Bee is strongly hinted to have a connection to StarClan due to his dream, I think he will become RiverClan’s medicine cat. (Thus fulfilling RiverClan's need for a medicine cat with a connection to StarClan if Frostpaw becomes leader.)

Power of Twelve Book Titles and Blurbs
Book 1: Fated Stars
“There will be three, kin of your kin...who hold the power of the stars in their paws.”
Those were the words whispered in the ears of the clan leaders. After a devastating battle rocks the foundation of the clans, new power has arisen and peace looks to be on the horizon. The Clans are growing strong and healthy with new kits. Now, the time has come for some of those kits to become apprentices.
With powerful legacies hanging over them, these wild cats hear the call of the stars, and a ThunderClan apprentice known as Jaypaw is at the center. Brought together for a purpose they do not yet understand, perhaps this mysterious fifth clan will have the answers they seek.
But with great power comes those who wish to claim it for themselves. As dark powers lurk and tempt the young cats, they will need to put aside their differences to overcome the challenges ahead.
Book 2: Black Moon
Jaypaw, Dawnpaw, Kestrelpaw, and Pebblepaw have found SkyClan and learned their ways, guiding them in turn towards the lake territories. But back home things aren’t looking bright. A mysterious cat named Sol is turning the clans against each other during their moment of weakness, and his accomplice seems to know a great deal about WindClan’s leader.
The gifted apprentices are learning they really aren’t as different as the clans make them out to be, but high tensions are putting their alliance in danger. When one of their own is taken hostage by the enemy, it’ll take all of their power to bring her home safely.
SkyClan may be their last hope in overcoming Sol, but there’s a long journey ahead. With Harepaw questioning his loyalty to his father, and Jaypaw questioning the guidance of the stars, can anyone really be trusted?
Book 3: Calm Waters
Sol and his rogues have retreated, and the clans are stronger now than ever. SkyClan has joined them at the lake, and while many are eager to welcome those who helped them, others are apprehensive to the change.
As their knowledge of The Dark Forest continues to grow, so too does their knowledge of StarClan. The stars were always heralded as their savior, and yet Jayfeather finds himself questioning the very cats he communes with.
A secret will shake the very foundation of not only the alliance, but the friendship between the apprentices. And when the dust settles, will there be anything left to rebuild?
Book 4: Dust
The alliance has been broken, trust shattered after Jayfeather’s revelation. Some attempt to move on from the prophecy, while others take matters into their own paws. From the dust and remnants, the warriors are training their own apprentices, and discovering more than they expected.
When a cat from the mountains comes to RiverClan claiming she was guided by the spirit of RiverClan’s chosen, questions arise on what more the stars ask of them.
The Dark Forest grows stronger, preying on the weakness within the cats of the living. With Lionblaze’s anger, Tigerheart’s longing, and Minnowtail’s love, will any of these cats be able to free themselves like Harespring?
Book 5: Secret in the Flames
Having found the true cats with the stars in their paws, the alliance has slowly rebuilt itself, with unlikely allies being found in every corner. Jayfeather knows the end draws near, but whispers of traitorous secrets reveal they were never as safe as they thought.
With the return of an enemy thought to have been gone, tensions are rising, and the cats look to Jayfeather for answers. But when loss becomes too great, will the cats be able to persevere and lead their clanmates to victory?
Book 6: The Last Hope
The Dark Forest is ready to lay siege to the clans. As the cats prepare to lead their clans into battle, they find themselves divided in order to face this threat. They cannot hide any longer. The final battle is here, and this is their last hope.

Riverclan, The Royal & Cold
Riverclan is an elegant and traditional clan, praising loyalty, skill, and grace above all else, they praise the warrior code more than Starclan, but they still understand that Starclan is a power to be recond with, most fear Starclan's power, but cats under the iron paw of The Familly fear them most.
The Familly is a lineage that has been Leading Riverclan for countless generations, it's rumored that they even founded Riverclan, their rule is strict and merciless, not letting cats slip up for a second, if an apprentice passes the border, they get grounded in camp for moons, if any member eats prey when they're not supposed to, they can be banished, and if a cat has half clan relationships, they are killed in cold blood, so Riverclan seems the most organized and peaceful out of the clans, but in its roots, Riverclan is controlled by lies and fear.
The Family is very connected, they're almost like a hive mind, so it is not only the Leader, Medicine Cat, and Deputy that decide for the clan but often the whole Family has a reunion to decide anything, even choosing the next Leader is decided between them, they choose the one that is actually capable to lead, but it has to be someone from The Family, that's why The Family has a high expectation for each member (except Medicine Cats) to have kits, so the possible candidates and supporters for the next generation of Leaders are big, and every Deputy is destined to be a Leader, they see as unpractical to have a Deputy that its not capable or not wanted to take over leadership.
Riverclan is also the one that causes the most border disputes, they try to expand their borders, and decimate the other clans if they try to take even a small piece of their territory, so they are very feared, but have no alliances with any of the other clans, they never admitted it outright, but if they need to destroy the other clans to get more territory, they will kill every single member of the clans, so the clans have to walk in eggshells when speaking with the leadership of Riverclan, their feared but hated, since they took many lives from Thunderclan and Windclan to expand land, Riverclan doesn't have much contact with Skyclan because of the Thunder Path and that they dont see value in their rocky lands.
Recently, The Familly has been more aware of Starclans' might than before, with Oakwhisper bringing back the blessing part of their ancestors, and Reedfreckle bringing up the might of Starclan, making their current Leader, Froststar, shake in fear and obey her orders, but the tension between The Familly and Reedfreckle has been high with having Sheepblossom as a Medicine cat and him training an apprentice of his own, there are rumors that because of Reedfreckle's rebellious nature against them, she will lose her position, be banished, or even be killed for her actions toward The Family, this made some members anxious to know her fate.

it’s my personal favorite aus i have nowadays
- leafpool kills ashfur (srsly all time fave)
- firestar and sandstorm adopt the three
- SOLSQUIRREL!
- sootfur, sorreltail, and rainwhisker’s fates were intertwined with leafpool + squirrelflight’s and they were more or less born to protect them so that the three would be born
- breezepelt is the fourth cat
- thunderclan believed that thistleclaw was the one who killed bluefurs kits instead of a badger
- morningflower adopts hawkfrost + mothwing
- mudclaw is exiled from windclan and finds darktail (whose like apprentice aged) and sorta adopts/fosters him hehe

For anyone wondering what I have spent my whole day one-
Have my reworked, half canon, family tree for WC. It is very large so keep that in mind (a whole 306 cats!!). Mostly for me but I also feel like it’s fun to look at. I’d suggest just searching specific cats it works out the best.
Family Tree
The Name Changes
Sparkpelt to Sparkfire
Nightheart to Nightshade
Finchlight to Finchflight
Mosskit to Mosspelt
Violetshine to Violetshade
Twigbranch to Twigsprig
Tigerheartstar to Goldenheart
Ivypool to Ivyclaw
Breezepelt to Breezestrike
Pebbleshine to Pebblepad
Stormtail to Stormgrowl
Snowfur to Snowstorm
Whitetail to Ospreytail
Finchflight (ShC) to Roachflight
Odder Changes
TreeVioletDragonfly polycule purely taken from @bonefall ‘s big brain
Ivyclaw and Rosepetal. Came to me while doing the tree and now it’s on there. Don’t ask about how they have kits the litter is just theirs alright?
WillowHeatherHollyCinder polycule will stay no one can stop me they are all lesbians and dating
Mille situation. Briarlight and Blossomfall are the slightly older siblings of Bumblestripe and non Graystripe kittens. She was just expecting and had them soon after joining Thunderclan and then a few moons later had Bumblestripe.
JayPoppy. I had a lot of trouble finding a pairing that worked as the parents for Spotfur and Sorrelstripe since I needed to move them out of the big LionCinder litter so they were tucked there. Poppyfrost just says their hers and no one is to question this.
AlderVelvetPuddle polycule and also Velvet as a church cat. Idk I liked them a lot. Also needed a change to Pouncestep’s parentage bc I wanted just Lightleap and Shadowsight as GoldenDove kittens so she’s secretly Velvet’s kitten that Dove adopted at the church.
Brokenstar. Just Brokenstar. He needed kittens and Fernshade wanted them too so the pair had Badgerkit and Batkit but once Fern saw what he was doing she tried to get them out, Batkit did and was left at the Thunderclan border soon to be swept up by a patrol but Badgerkit didn’t. He died as just a kitten in the fate Fernshade feared. Displeased by his heirs gone Broken and Newt paired up to have Rowanclaw.
Heatherstar is now the sister of Palebird and mother of Onestar. Her only kitten to survive, and we’ve seen she likes more on the nose names so she named him Onekit. Windclan has a bloodline based leadership thing going on. Onewhisker had his one-sided divorce with Firestar and got with Smoke to have Darktail and Heathertail, Smoke refused to let him abandoned her entirely and made him take Heather. He then to save face has another litter with Whitewing being Harestar and Kestrelflight
AshHawkReed bc I said so. After the death of Hawkfrost, Reedwhisker still wanted a family so he had one with Duskfur being Curlfeather and Podlight.
CrookedBlue rights. Bluestar is still aro and she gives all three of her kittens to Crookedstar at the border, Mosskit barely surviving. Moss goes on to be Mosspelt a permanent queen! CrookedWillow is still canon with Silverstream

I've always thought that Firestar's Quest and the rebuilding of Skyclan is a fascinating concept that was given to a character that didn't really need it. Firestar is great and has plenty of content to show it, his interpersonal conflict with Sandstorm over Spottedleaf just isn't very interesting outside of rebuilding Skyclan. So instead I present my AU where Blackfoot rebuilds Skyclan.
Instead of canon, Russetfur confronts Blackfoot after the Bloodclan battle and makes a bid for Shadowclan's leadership in front of the other leaders. Shadowclan is her home and she wishes to protect it from another tyrannical leader, which Blackfoot always supported. It is agreed that the clans will be given a night to bury their dead and a gathering will be held in a day to tie up lose ends. Runningnose; paranoid of what could come from Blackfoot's leadership and so incredibly tired of the bloodshed; puts his support in Russetfur. Blackfoot is exiled under threat of death from every clan and flees clan territory when the gathering concludes.
He shelters in unknown twoleg place far from where he previously stayed, which was Bloodclan land. Instead he finds himself resting in old Skyclan territory and for the first time in years Cloudstar has access to a warrior who can contact Starclan. Cloudstar visits Blackfoot and demands him to rebuild his clan, which otherwise directionless Blackfoot accepts in a heartbeat. With a renewed purpose he sets out for the gorge.
Just the concept of Blackfoot being faced with the consequences of his actions under Brokenstar and Tigerstar is so compelling. He isn't reduced to being too oblivious to notice/immediately accepted by Starclan and gets a second chance outside of the forest to change. Being incredibly anti-outsider having to challenge his outlook by forming a full clan of cats out of what he would consider weak rogues and kittypets. Realizing how wrong he was. How much hardship Skyclan faced when they were driven out and how he had a hand in almost giving the same fate to Windclan. While he may never know of the forest again, what could've been had Russetfur not challenged him, he finds new ancestors and a new family to call his own.

6 Moons PA
All four Clans remained huddled in this stasis until StarClan finally reached out with a sign, visiting the dreams of all Medicine Cats in one night and speaking one word in their multitude of voices-- ❝ RUN!! ❞ An emergency Gathering happened the very next morning when the Clans appeared at Fourtrees, pulled by the plea from their ancestors, with all their cats and any supplies they could manage to carry along. All, except WindClan. It was only the Leader, Galestar, his Medicine Cat, Doeshine, and a handful of Warriors who appeared to meet the others with a message of their own: WindClan would not be leaving. Galestar declared that his Medicine Cat had received a sign from StarClan that was different from what they'd told the other Clans– that WindClan was safe on their moors, away from the infected woods and protected under their ancestors' watchful gazes. They did not need to make a panicked flight from their home, so they would not. No amount of reasoning or arguing or damning the hubris of such a claim would sway the WindClan party, and so it was there that the four Clans became three. Those who were leaving joined together, eyes grimly set on the horizon where they would hopefully find their new, safe home, and left the forest behind. But this story isn’t about them.
Another page in the history of WindClan's fight for survival amongst the apocalypse, but more importantly-- some news! TFoW's first round of high ranks have been announced and, with that, the server is now accepting general character submissions!
The roleplay is set to open on April 29th. We're growing fast, and that date isn't too far away...

I’m rereading Po3 and despite its flaws I really enjoyed the introduction to the three. Jaykit isn’t mentioned to be blind in the first few chapters and instead they chose to show how much MORE capable he is compared to his littermates; until at the end of chapter 3, he brings up his blindness on his own. It makes forcing him to be a medicine cat SO much more frustrating because it really feels like they’re setting him up to be a warrior and choose his own fate (note i haven’t finished the reread this is just my first impression)
I like how you seem to take that path in BB regardless! It makes his arc so much more enjoyable
His arc in canon is super frustrating because he's such an independent character who clearly wants to make his own decisions in life, but then he just gets shoved into the medcat den. I LIKE that he ultimately goes there and that he enjoys it; but it was still really fucked up that they stripped away his autonomy in the process.
Re: they are not real, they are writing choices. Taking away the choices a disabled character can make over their own life, forcing them into a celibate nun role, and then going "awwwww dont worry see? he likes it! This was the best thing for him :)" was fucked up.
And imo it didn't have to be that way! You wouldn't have to go the FULL route I did with big changes, he could just be more involved in the descision to stop being a warrior apprentice and it would be fine. Minor change that would make a world of difference.
I do also have to interject to say though... blindness should really not be an extremely severe impairment for a ThunderClan cat.
I'm dead serious.
Whiskers are built-in sensors that tell you the exact position of everything within several inches of your head, ears swerve to pick up sound, and the jacobson's organ provides a sense of smell so keen that I have an entire Clanmew expansion draft because I needed to make WORDS describing the power of this sense that humans do not have. I cannot stress enough how delicate their other senses are, felines do not rely on their sight like primates do
ThunderClan lives in a mixed-oak woodland, where sight is already often obscured by foliage, objects are close together (for whiskers to feel), and nearly every movement makes noise against the leaf litter. RiverClan and (moor-running) WindClan cats would have a harder time with this disability than Thunder or Shadow.
Cat sight SUCKS to begin with. It sucks BADDD. They don't have color vision, they're significantly nearsighted, and they can't track up-and-down movements well. WC doesn't write realistic cats (more like small fuzzy people really) and I also work with more humanesque eyesight, but the only thing Jay should really lose is an ability to rapidly track a small animal swerving fast. Blind cats are often still excellent hunters in spite of that!
So it's an extra big waste that they railroaded him into a position he didn't choose, saying he couldn't be a warrior. This is the perfect disability to write, if you want to explore how ableism can impact the characters in this society who ARE legitimately still capable of nearly full independence, but still need to find accommodations for what they can't do.
In the same arc they're doing the dumb Cinder Reincarnation Plotline, no less!! Where SHE is also feeling like she has no choice over her "destiny," and gets a conflict over a potentially disabling injury
"Oh nooo if cinderpaw breaks her leg she wont be a warrior!"
"What the f-- Im Jaypaw and im reporting live from the scene where a Category 1 Idiot Moment is taking place. Woman breaks leg, suddenly everyone believes she is a horse, more at 11."
One of these days I should really make "herb guides" just covering how various sensory disabilities impact the lives of Clan cats and some tips for writing them as warriors, especially between Clans. Stuff you wouldn't usually consider, like how much noise deaf cats tend to make, how RiverClan would get a ton of sinus infections and lose their sense of smell, being blind in Sky vs Thunder, etc.
#I once saw someone say offhandedly 'well what if someone snuck up on jay from behind and attacked him. No whiskers there'#NEWSFLASH! YOU ALSO DONT HAVE EYES IN THE BACK OF YOUR HEAD#He doesn't have short whiskers either they're normally sized#Something like 4 - 5 inches on a cat like him. About double the size of the head foward and sideways#Once you're talking about close combat like the cats usually do there's no way that you can stay back far enough to avoid them#I want to rewrite owl and jay's fight or make a rematch where jay realizes owl is being a coward#Hanging just out of his range and jabbing at him#But once he realizes it's just a coward's strategy it clicks that the counter is to be aggressive#And not let his opponent out of his 'range'#Also give him a neat little scene where they're grappling next to Black's dam project where it's super muddy#And Jay is like 'YOU WANT TO PLAY DIRTY? LETS GET FILTHY' and dunks Owl's face down into the mud#Because Jay can fight without his sight but Owl doesn't know how to continue while there's stinging gunk in his eyes and nose#I like thinking about what I'm going to do for BB!Jay's matches because his fighting style is really fun to write#1. Be aggressive and proactive 2. Don't let them out of range 3. SCARE THEM#From the Mud Match he learns that the best way to end a fight quickly is to absolutely terrify them#Because they're usually not expecting the fight to be difficult nor are they expecting to feel like theyre in danger#So if you surprise them it breaks their willpower real fast#And as he gains a reputation for brutality he faces less opponents until he's practically known as the Cleric Without Mercy#Bone babble

Fun Facts about each WCR Protagonist: Crowfeather Edition!
He had an incredible bond with his mother when he was little, and his older brother, Eaglefoot. His father, Deadfoot, sadly died when Crowkit was small, roughly 2 moons old. He feels like he has to make his dad proud and put some pressure onto himself.
Originally, he did not want to go on the Journey. The first cat to come to him was Ashfoot's old friend, Morningflower, who died in the place of Gorsepaw during TPB.
He had a "friendship" with Cranberrypaw as they train together. Cranberrypaw claims they are friends, and acts friendly towards him, but to him, she is like an annoying little sister, and he doesn't want to think about a sister after losing his own...
He also has a bit of a rivalry with Nightpaw/Nightcloud. She got her name early after catching managing to bringing down a hawk single hand- er... Single pawed? She killed a hawk and managed to bring home a load of grubs to eat.
His brother and sister, Hillkit and Downkit, survived, but his sister Downpaw died from a poisoned rabbit. That night, his father visited him with his sister and told him that to prevent the whole Clan, no, the whole FOREST, from having Downpaw's fate, he needed to go. This was the push that made him go on the Journey.
He is a descendant of Moon Flight, through her kits. One of their own descendants had was a surrogate for a Windclan couple and accidentally brought the Windstar Bloodline back to Windclan. It is most likely on Honey Pelt's side.
This means, though it doesn't matter in terms of Kin, he is related to Blackstar, who is the descendant of Spider Paw.
He and Feathertail are no longer having a weird 20-minute romance arc. Instead, she helps him with his grief and feelings about legacy. She is a good friend and like a big sister to him.
Leafpaw, however, IS on the Journey with them, and the 2 become close. They genuinely develop interest, then like, then adoration, then real love for each other.
Crowfeather's brother, Hillfang (who got his name while Crowpaw was on the Journey) is a massive Musclaw supporter, and after that battle, when Hillfang is killed, he and Leafpool run away together at Leafpool's suggestion.
He is overjoyed when Leafpool tells him she is pregnant, but also heartbroken. If he leaves for Thunderclan, Onestar is going to pitch a fit and possibly start war. Onestar changed after getting those lives. He doesn't trust anyone anymore.
Nightcloud was also in hot water. She was a huge Mudclaw supporter, probably his biggest, and her loyalty is being questioned constantly. She and Crowfeather are BOTH up for exile.
They don't want to be mates, but suddenly settling down and starting a family would definitely ease suspicions. Ah, of course, they were just young adults who weren't sure what they wanted in life!
He and Nightcloud just... Weren't meant to be together. While he did bring her food and some stuff for her nest while she was pregnant, even naming their stillborn son Cloudkit. The other son, the one who lasted for about only a few minutes, was named by Nightcloud to be Smokekit. (Yes, this is where Breezepelt gets a name idea for his own daughter, Smokehaze.)
Crowfeather at first suggests to Leafpool when she tells him she is pregnant that they should run again, raise their kits somewhere else, away from judgement. Unfortunately, Leafpool is too emotional for that conversation.
He and Leafpool actually did discuss names though, they picked The Three's names.
He didn't name Breezepelt (Breezekit was a name Nightcloud always liked, and Crowfeather struggled to pick names with Leafpool already) but in WCR, he actually does love his son. The big problem? He never loved Nightcloud, and didn't want to be with her at all. They fight constantly. Nightcloud loves Breezepelt with her whole heart and soul, but Crowfeather, still having deep love for his Thunderclan family, doesn't feel right about it. Is it okay to love Breezepelt? He knows he and Nightcloud should never have been mates, he never wanted to be with her, but does that mean Breezepelt shouldn't exist? He thinks about it a lot.
He and Nightcloud, however, both agreed heavily on who Breezekit's mentor would be. Whitetail! Fitting that Whitetail's daughter Heatherkit would be apprenticed to Crowfeather!
During A Broken Crow's Nest, the reduxed Crowfeather's Trial, he LEAVES Windclan to join Thunderclan permanently, after finding Nightcloud and helping her and her new mate Pickle get back into Windclan. He is still in Thunderclan as of River. His first Thunderclan appearance is in The Hopeless Storm.
He was penalized by Bramblefake for being a Codebreaker and has his apprentice taken away for fear that he would "corrupt" him. His apprentice was Baypaw, who was switched over to Frogsong, a warrior who followed Bramblefake's every word.
He is extremely proud of all his children. Hollyleaf AND Breezepelt are both deputies in their respective Clans.

First of all I’m always thinking about different ways leafpool could leave the clans because if there’s one thing I love it’s leafpool and if there’s one thing I hate it’s clan culture as written in canon.
Most of the time I imagine her becoming more and more miserable while expecting, just the amount of suspicion and hostility she’s subject to + the whole “Starclan berating her for the thing they made her do” leading to her running away from the clans for a second time- I go back and forth on who if anyone might go with her but I’m partial to Mothwing because holy shit Mothwing has to do so much to prove herself just to be allowed the privilege of a serving a clan that would turn on her in an instant if they knew her secret, it makes sense that she’d also consider leaving the clans for good even if both would have a lot of complicated feelings over it - I also think about squilf going with her after considering the idea of raising the three as her own and realising that the amount of fear she has around brambleclaw is,, bad.
second idea is simpler, Leafpool just,, gets an abortion (herbal remedies can be really unsafe but come on it’s warrior cat) and Starclan is fucking scrambling to figure out what to do now that their favourite toy has ruined fate, the three end up being completely different cats more distantly related to Firestar OR things go in a completely different direction now that the prophecy is broken
another thing I think about is leafpool having the kittens in thunderclan, maybe they come early and she’s taken by surprise, and I think it’d be interesting to see how being raised in this environment where they’re very susceptible to discrimination and watch their mother be mistreated by some of her clanmates (and also kittypet xenophobia would be involved, ie “this is what happens when you let a kittypet lead a clan” type arguments). I just like the idea of Jay, Holly, and Lion developing very different ideas of the clans and having to contend with the way they can be harmful, and I’ve got like one million ideas for how to do so
lightning round: leafpool joins windclan instead of her and Crowfeather running away but it’s very quickly apparent that they’re not in love and Crowfeather is almost repulsed by her when she’s a real person and not an idealised love interest (this one has nightleaf in it, somehow), leafpool goes to live with a kittypet and nothing bad happens ever so there’s no story, squilf raises leafpool’s kits but Brambleclaw knows and is shitty about it, any scenario where leafpool is a loner alongside a character who doesn’t get enough screentime and becomes disillusioned with the clans
(all of these are bad I’m sorry)
these aer NOT bad these are all incredibly fun, i love the idea of her just hitting da bricks in the first one. if it sucks, why stay!! run away with your gf if the vibes are rancid. i'm a softie for Leafpool running away.
you're so right leafpool would invent cat abortions. most pro-choice cat to ever exist.
i'd love to see you expand on some of these!! they really aren't bad, a lot of them seem super fun and ripe with juicy gossip (that brambleclaw knows one...little tweaks like that that radically change the story are super fun).

How come Hollystar got her 9 lives after the great battle but Harestar didn't? And why would anyone follow Darktail after he killed Onestar!? Or was that a secret harestar kept to himself on how his dad died?
Hollystar gets hers during the Great Battle to honor Firestar's dying wish and being right there next to the Moonpool. Jayfeather knows they're about to lose access to StarClan when they defeat the Dark Forest, so against his better judgement he allows Hollyleaf to connect with their ancestors one last time. Of the thousands of ancestors fighting, nine of the cats who had died in the battle by that point come forward to give what many think will be the final gifting of nine lives.
Hollystar's nine lives come from...
Stormheart - Life for Diligence
Petalnose - Life for Protection
Otterheart - Life for Fearlessness
Tornear - Life for Strength
Applefur - Life for Open-mindedness
Cedarheart - Life for Fortitude
Leafpool - Life for Empathy
Firestar - Life for Honesty
Brambleclaw - Life for Love
Harespring is too weak to travel to the Moonpool from where he is, much less have the strength to leave his father's side. Him and Onestar were particularly close, and no one expected Onestar to die considering he still had a considerable amount of lives left. If Jayfeather knew, he likely would've tried to get Harespring his as well before the connection was broken, just as he strived to do for his sister.
It should also be noted that Jayfeather is not being objective - like ultimately the arguably best course of action is to close the connection as soon as possible and halt the battle NOW, but he is written to be, while snappy and standoffish, incredibly emotional and is very swayed when put face to face with someone's troubles. He couldn't close the door on his sister even if it meant ending things, and while he does once she's safe and sound, he illogically delays ending the connection to ensure Hollyleaf returns to them with her nine lives. This is, while a charming trait at times, also a flaw of Jayfeather's as he is the complete opposite of Chi's bizarrely playful apathy.
As for following Darktail - it's much less about Darktail and much more about the hopelessness the clans feel after the battle. They fought and fought, but here stood WindClan without a leader - sure Harespring is the rightful leader, but with no nine lives many question if they should follow him. Furthermore many members of the clans, while happy to be alive, now feel as if they're no different than rogues or any other cat. AVoS in my rewrite is meant to really draw attention to the amount of xenophobia the clans feel and how they put themselves above others by validation of StarClan. Cats like Cloudtail understand the meaning of being a clan cat, but others think none of it matters without their ancestors there. As such many of the cats who follow Darktail are young, inexperienced, and begin to wonder if Darktail has a point. After all, even if he killed Onestar, StarClan didn't give them a new leader, so perhaps this is too twisted fate. While certainly not the majority of people follow Darktail, in fact it's a very small minority and not all of ShadowClan turning on Rowanstar in this, he strives to continue rebuilding The Kin, which stands for something many of the cats now find intriguing once the dust settles.
Tumblr media
In Alderpaw's case, he sees the horrific state many of the cats are in, some more hostile towards the clan than others, and wishes to help them, partly out of a motivation to reason with Darktail and his goons rather than attack the clans when weakest as Darktail had planned. What's even more surprising is when Darktail actually takes young Alderpaw up on this...

Fire and Ice - Chapter 22
Chapter 21 || Index || Chapter 23
Ever since the announcement of Windclan's fate, the Clan had been tense, waiting for an attack at any moment. Though patrols along the Shadowclan border had been thus far uneventful, everyone knew that could change at any moment. Nothing could relax the fear every cat was feeling, nor did anyone try.
Firepaw's routine remained for the most part unchanged, though Tinyfrost was accompanying him near constantly now. Because of it, he had had no opportunity to go visit Princess since their first meeting. As much as he desired to see his sister again, he knew better than to try sneaking off, especially while tensions were high. He didn't need to be in more trouble than he was already.
"So why have you been avoiding the other apprentices?" He blinked out of his thoughts as Tinyfrost spoke aloud. The two had been collecting fresh moss for the Shadowclan elders' bedding. "I thought you were friends with all of them."
The mere thought of the other apprentices sent his heart racing. "It's nothing. I've just been busy with all the hunting I have to do."
"Which means it's your fault." Tinyfrost observed, his icy blue eyes stoic as he regarded his apprentice. "If it wasn't, you wouldn't be reluctant to talk about it."
He looked away with a grimace. "You don't know that." He grumbled under his breath.
"I do now." His mentor's voice was as quiet as ever as he spoke. "You can't try and hide it from me, you know. I've seen you sitting by yourself during sunhigh, and I haven't seen you say a single word to them since the Shadowclanners arrived. I assume it has something to do with them."
For a moment, Firepaw was tempted to tell the other tom to leave it alone, that it wasn't his business. Yet they were stuck together until Bluestar decided that the danger of Shadowclan was past, and Tinyfrost could all too easily spend that foreseeable future needling him about it. Unfortunately, ignoring him wasn't a viable option.
"I couldn't stand them rubbing their success in my face." He muttered as he tore away another section of moss. "While I'm stuck taking care of every elder around, they're off enjoying hunting competitions and training and sleeping in." His fur rose as he thought about it. "They get to eat twice a day while I'm lucky if I get one meal to myself!"
He expected the other tom to mock him, much as everyone else had been doing, but to his surprise his mentor nodded sympathetically. "You've been working harder than most. And it's not fair." He blinked in surprise at the kind words. "You've shown a restraint most warriors would have trouble with, given the season."
Firepaw hesitated, unsure how to take the sudden praise. "I, uh, thank you." He finally managed, dipping his head to the older tom.
"But." Of course there was a but. "You can't just take your frustrations out on your friends. Yes, it isn't fair that you were punished when you did the same thing any warrior would have done. But lashing out at those that care for you won't help."
Truthfully, Firepaw already knew that. He'd known how wrong it was since the moment he had berated them. Yet despite all of that, he still found it hard to consider apologizing. If he did, he would have to listen to them bragging, day in and day out.
"If nothing else, the rift between you and them obviously isn't helping you." Tinyfrost continued as he began gathering up the collected moss. "I'd guess it's making you feel worse. Maybe fixing it would make you feel better for a change?"
The apprentice looked away from his mentor, not wanting the latter to see his grimace. "I don't need your sarcasm." Firepaw grumbled as he began collecting up his own moss. "I can handle it myself."
"Suit yourself." Tinyfrost replied simply to his apprentice's attitude. "If you want to mope around by yourself during your precious little free time, that's your prerogative. Just don't let it affect your performance." He could hear the other tom bundling up his moss. "Why don't you go take that bundle to Spottedleaf and Yellowfang? I'll take this to the Shadowclan elders."
Firepaw glanced over to him in surprise. "Are you sure? But Bluestar said-"
Tinyfrost waved him off. "It's fine. You're only returning to camp from here, and I'll be careful. I can take care of myself out here. Besides, don't you want to get this done faster, so you can hunt yourself something before moonhigh?"
Firepaw had to admit that the thought of getting to eat was far too tempting to turn down. "Alright. Stay safe." With that, he picked up his bundle and headed for the ravine.
The sun was getting low on the horizon as he entered camp; it wouldn't be long, he supposed, until the border patrols came back, and the other apprentices along with them. Thankfully, the camp was only guarded by a couple of warriors, and was otherwise empty at the moment.
The healer's den was getting dark as he entered, and only Yellowfang was inside. He supposed Spottedleaf was probably out gathering herbs for the coming war, preparing as much as she could like everyone else in camp was.
"Hello, Yellowfang." Firepaw greeted her as politely as he could, dropping his bundle by her paws. "Do you need me to change your bedding again?"
Her predictable scoff came as he spoke, as it had ever since he had been assigned to care for her. "Do you always smell dung wherever you go? I'm fine." She sniffed at the moss he had brought her. "I could use some mouse bile for the ticks on my back, though. The base of my tail itches something fierce!"
Firepaw hesitated. "Where do I find mouse bile?" He asked the old healer. He knew Spottedleaf sometimes collected the discarded organs from eaten freshkill, but he had no idea where she stored them.
"I'll get it." Yellowfang stretched out her front paws and made her way over to Spottedleaf's storage, clumsily kicking the moss alongside her. Firepaw looked on uncertainly as she extracted a patch of moss and pulled a small, round object out of Spottedleaf's storage and cut it open.
"Here." The old healer gestured at the moss as she limped back to her nest. "Just put the moss on the ticks with your paws. They'll be leaping off to get away from the stench." She snorted at that. "In a way, they're smarter than you for that."
He did his best to refrain from rolling his eyes as he picked up the moss with one claw. "You're going to hold that against me forever, aren't you?" He grumbled as he gently lowered the moss onto the base of her tail.
"Well, my leg is still broken because of you, so…" The healer's tail lashed against his paws. "I think I'm entitled to, yes."
Firepaw couldn't restrain himself from grimacing. "Yeah, you and everyone else in this camp." He muttered to himself.
The molly's ear twitched at his words. "You managed to anger every cat in camp? Even at my prime, I never accomplished that." Her voice was wry, almost reassuring, if he didn't know any better.
"I might as well have." He grumbled. "Half of them are pissed at me for attacking a healer, even though she stank like a fox. Half of them are still angry at me for being a former kittypet, and half of them are too busy enjoying themselves to bother themselves with their 'friend' struggling." His nose rankled at the thought of his friends gallivanting off while he was busy feeding a quarter of the Clan.
"That was three halves." Yellowfang observed. "Don't tell me you've gone so far as to recruit additional kittypets just to get them to hate you? Quite the impressive feat, if that's the case."
He huffed at her snarky response. "Whatever. Why do you care? You hate me as much as anyone else here."
The dark molly shrugged, dislodging the moss from her tail and forcing him to drag it back onto her spine. "I'm stuck here listening to you. I could sit in silence like a sullen kit, but that's rather boring, isn't it?" She snorted dismissively. "I have to say, I'm surprised such an aggressive kittypet has any friends in the Clan. They must be impressively brave, or naïve."
Firepaw growled at her insinuation. "I only attack trespassers, not Clanmates." He snapped. "Besides, didn't I already tell you? They're not really my friends anymore."
She flicked an ear at that. "Fine, then. What did you do to get them to hate you? Cover their nest in thorns? Pee in their freshkill? Get them assigned to elder duty for a quarter-moon? You know, normal apprentice things?" There was a pause, then she sighed. "Well, they used to be."
"Pee in their freshkill?" He shuddered at the thought. What a waste of food. "No. They were rubbing my face in the fact that they all managed to follow the code and win while I broke the code - completely on accident, while trying to follow it - and now I'm stuck taking care of every elder in the territory."
Yellowfang was quiet for a long moment. "Every apprentice breaks the code at some point. Some more than others." She sighed and glanced over her shoulder. "Move that mouse bile up, won't you? I can still feel a few ticks in my spine."
"Try telling them that." He grumbled, complying nonetheless. "Try telling the whole Clan that, really."
"It is our belief in the warrior code that makes us a Clan." Yellowfang murmured as she looked away again. "Without it, who are we? What are we?" Her voice wavered for a moment. "It is the job of the healer to guide the Clan when our leader will not."
Firepaw tilted his head in confusion. "I don't see what that has to do with anything."
She was silent for several long moments, and for a heartbeat he wondered if the healer had forgotten he was there. "There are some wounds not even a healer can mend, Firepaw. You should remember that." She sighed again. "Remember that where I did not."
"Some wounds…?" He glanced over his shoulder to where camp was. She couldn't possibly be suggesting that she couldn't be the one to talk to the others? Perhaps she meant that it had to be him?
"That's enough for now, Firepaw. I don't think any ticks will be bothering me for a while." Yellowfang shook off the moss, which landed with a wet slap on the dirt beside her. "I'm not that hungry, so I don't think you'll need to catch me dinner tonight. I'll share something with Spottedleaf."
"I- Alright, then." The young apprentice hesitated. "Are you sure you don't need anything else?"
"If I wanted something else, I'd just say it." The old molly snapped, evidently back to her usual bad mood. "Now leave me be. I don't need to listen to the inane ramblings of a moody apprentice."
He didn't need to be told twice. "I'll see you tomorrow, then." He mumbled, hurriedly making his way out of the den and into the camp clearing.
By now, most of the patrols had returned, and were sharing tongues with each other as they ate for the night. All of the apprentices were back, conversing over freshkill as they did every night.
Firepaw watched the five of them for a few moments. Both Tinyfrost and Yellowfang had at least insinuated that he ought to make things right with them. He would never have a better chance than this. If he didn't do it now…
He forced his paws to carry him across the dusty clearing, ignoring the conversations carrying on around him. As he approached, Ravenpaw was the first to look up, nudging Pepperpaw and Dewpaw beside him until all five of the apprentices saw him come to a stop in front of them.
"Firepaw? Do you need something?" Pepperpaw's ears were perked forward curiously, but he could tell by her squint that she was obviously distrustful of his intentions. He supposed he couldn't blame her.
"Look, I…" He took a deep breath, trying not to let his nerves get to him. "I wanted to apologize."
"For what?" Cinderpaw asked, before she was quickly shushed by Pepperpaw beside her.
"I messed up." Firepaw admitted, his tail dropping into the earth below. "I was angry, and I took it out on you guys instead."
"That you did." Pepperpaw murmured stoically. "You can't help how you feel. What matters is what you do with those feelings."
"I- I know." He dipped his head with a sigh. He remembered those words from the night the fox had entered the nursery; the night of the Gathering. "I handled it poorly and you didn't deserve it. I'm sorry."
From beside him, Graypaw shrugged. "We all get mad and make mistakes. I get it." He bit down on his squirrel. "At leasht you owned up to it."
Pepperpaw glanced at her brother with a frown. "That's true, but…"
Cinderpaw flicked her tail quickly at her sister's words. "Hey, as long as he promises not to do it again, what's the problem?"
"I won't." Firepaw spoke quickly, before Pepperpaw could respond. "I swear I've learned my lesson. It wasn't your fault, and I shouldn't have acted like it was." He hesitated, before adding, "I just want to make things right."
Pepperpaw sighed and looked down at her pigeon. "You have had a lot on your shoulders lately… Maybe we should have been more understanding." She admitted slowly. "I suppose that Cinderpaw and Graypaw are probably right."
"Besides, remember when Cinderpaw stole your rabbit fur ball and tore it up in front of you? You were mad at her for a moon!" Graypaw chuckled fondly at the memory. "Honestly, Firepaw's been doing everyone's share of the chores for the last half moon or so. We should really be thanking him, when you think about it."
"Graypaw…" Pepperpaw's tone was low, almost warning him.
"That fur ball was an accident! I didn't know it was close to falling apart like that." Cinderpaw huffed, interrupting her sister before she could say anything else.
"A-anyways, I just wanted to say sorry. I need to go catch something to eat before the night patrol leaves, so…" Firepaw started to slowly back away, all too familiar with how quickly conversation could devolve when Cinderpaw was involved.
"Nonsense!" Graypaw patted the ground beside him with his tail. "There's enough on this squirrel to share. C'mere."
Firepaw paused, his stomach growling at the thought of an easy meal for a change. "Are you sure? I don't want to intrude…"
"Nonsense." Graypaw nudged the squirrel slightly towards him. "You're forgiven, right? You won't be intruding on anything. Besides, I could use your help in an argument. See, Cinderpaw thinks that Shadowclan eats snakes, but I think they'd be too thin to get any meat off of."
"Obviously only the baby snakes would be too small to eat. Have you seen a full-grown adder? Those things are huge!" Cinderpaw interrupted, tail lashing already. "They already eat toads, so why not snakes?"
"They've got to be poisonous, though, right?" Graypaw turned to Firepaw as he sat down beside the other tom. "Have any of the Shadowclanners said anything to you about it?"
The ginger apprentice considered it, thinking back through his interactions with the elders and Yellowfang. "I don't think they have…" He admitted slowly. "I could ask them, but I don't know if they'd answer me, let alone honestly."
"I'm telling you that they do! One-eye said so!" Cinderpaw insisted, already forgetting her meal as her eyes glistened with the thought of winning an argument.
"And you believe everything One-eye says? She used to tell you your nose turned red when you lied." Graypaw chuffed dismissively. "You believed that one for three moons!"
Firepaw had to purr at the two bickering as he leaned down to take a bite of squirrel. He was glad he had made up with all of them, even if Pepperpaw and Ravenpaw were still eyeing him hesitantly. He had missed these conversations with all of them, though he hadn't been willing to admit it to even himself. It felt right to be sitting next to Graypaw and the rest of them now.
Now, all they needed was to deal with Shadowclan once and for all, and everything might turn out okay after all.
