THE ROARING TWENTIES (1929) | Written + Directed by Taylor Swift *ALL-TALKING PICTURE* Flapper Clara falls in love. With a Princeton sophomore. Every night they spend together feels like a dream. All the social occasions, the scent of wine she tasted on his lips, dance floor reflecting broken mirrorball lights, tossing pennies in the pool, sneaking in campus, night walks around the Nassau Hall, joking about school dorms, long dinner that seems never end and sophisticated conversations. His innocence and passion. Her wide-eyed gazes. Breathes that felt too close in the dark. Finally, one day, the kid went down on his knees and pulled that damned rock out of his pocket. Will Clara say "yes"?

The beautiful thing about special interests + echolalia is that it leads to fun moments like these:
I’m at work, looking up the distance between two cities to see if we service a customer’s area—just a completely mundane thing—and I discover that the cities are on opposite sides of the state.
So of course, I quote Good Omens. Just… tweaked slightly.
“They’re on opposite sides!”
“We’re on our side!”
Just… an instant rush of dopamine.
I love it here.

Dick Grayson: What’s the secret, Jason?
Jason Todd (Age 13): The secret?
Dick Grayson: Yeah, you seem to have it pretty figured out.
Jason Todd (Age 13): The secret. . .I don’t know. You’ve just gotta find something you love to do and then. . .do it for the rest of your life.
Jason Todd (Age 13): For me, it’s being Robin.

starting a book club (of sorts) with eddie was something you did on a whim. you just randomly said one day that you "didn't have anyone to talk about the old books you like" and ed immediately said that he would read whatever book you wanted if, in turn, you'd read whatever he wanted you to. it was an agreement: every time you'd finish a book, you'd let him borrow it.
you decided you should read only one book a month, so it gave time for both of you to finish it, and then you'd spend the next month reading each others' selection. it worked, except that eddie didn't give you any book of his own, which you found extremely weird, but went along with it.  until one day he showed up at school with an extremely old book in his hands, impossible even to read the title, since it was all faded. it was a well-loved copy.
you were excited to figure out which book that was, and once you got home that day, the first thing you did was sit down at your desk and open it up. and you should've seen it coming, honestly. of course he chose the lord of the rings for you to read. of fucking course.  but then, the title wasn't importart anymore because your attention immediately was caught by a yellow paper that was clipped on the first page of the first chapter. it wasn't hard to recognize eddie's distinctly messy handwriting. this really caught you by surprise, but didn't fail to bring a smile to your lips.
dearest y/n,
you should've known that this book club thing was just an excuse for me to make you read this. but you won't regret it, i promise – at last, you'll finally know what mordor actually is, and why i reference it all the time.
i know you will like this for you are as much of a nerd as i am, but i would love to hear all about what you've thought while reading these old pages! think of this experience as another weird topic for us to discuss.
faithfully yours, your favorite nerd.
and when you decided to actually dive in the book, you found out that he took his time to annotate his feelings and thoughts throughout the whole book, which only made it extra enjoyable. it was filled with "this is super fucked up. isn't that right, y/n?", "what the fuck was he thinking?" and "they're so cool, we should dress up as them for halloween".
needless to say that this became an unspoken rule in your little club: you had to make notes in your books before lending them to each other. if you were head over heels in love with him while reading the lord of the rings, can you imagine the state you were in when he gave you back your copy of jane austen's pride and prejudice?

The thing that makes me mad about finding cool quotes/references to use as titles or some such for stories is they're basically impossible to consciously look for. Sure you can just Google "cool quotes" or something but it's just gonna return stuff that everyone knows. By nature the coolest quotes always come from things that you read/watch/listen to and are drawn towards, maybe not even realizing why you're drawn to them. You can't "look for" cool quotes because by nature the coolest quotes are the ones that are cool to you personally. So ultimately the only reliable way to find profound phrases/references is to consume a lot of art and find the things that are meaningful through sheerly opening your mind and trying new things

*Regulus and James bump into each other in the Potters' kitchen at midnight*
James: Still working on that?
Regulus, surprised: Hey
James: Hey
Regulus: I think we live together now
James, nodding: Seems like that. Are you waiting for Sirius?
Regulus: Yeah
James: Yeah... You want me to heat that up for you?
Regulus, whispering: You're not supposed to use magic outside of school
James, whispering: I was just gonna stick it in the microwave
Regulus, chuckles: Ah, I-I was supposed to have dinner with Sirius today, but um... You want to sit down?

character: goran open: m/f/nb plot: goran is an amateur kickboxer and bouncer at a bar. he's a sweetheart himbo with an overbearing brother that forced him into fighting. spending most of his life in the ring, he doesn't believe he's made for anything other than using his body as a weapon. one night at his bouncer job, some patrons get a little too rowdy and goran has to kick them out. your muse is either one of the people getting kicked out, a bystander, or any other connection you can come up with, as long as it’s not family or t*boo. yes, it's kinda based on roadhouse.
Tumblr media
"hey man," goran caught the man's forearm easily just as it was raised to blow down on another patron, halting the fight. the man tried to slip out of his grasp, but goran was stronger. "you really want to get you and everyone else at this table kicked out over some dumb shit like that?" the fighting patrons shared a look, the captured one shaking his head shamefully. goran let the man go, only for the two of them to go at it once again not a second later. "alright, that's enough." nodding towards the two other bouncers that approached, they all grabbed for the brawlers. this time, he didn't let go of his grip, pulling their arms behind their back and joining the wrists together. he turned to look at the person to his right, brow raising defiantly. "you gonna join them outside or behave in here? answer quickly."

Are you planning to watch the Priscilla movie? I’m not really looking forward to it, or the online commentary about it (which has already started) :/
Yes, if I can carve out some time between work + life I would like to see it. Crossing my fingers for a post credits scene where she's approached by L. Ron Hubbard, Nick Fury style.

This has been on my mind a while but I do think Heath Ledgers Joker is the best. Not in a redditor neckbeard "I'm just like him" way, I'm speaking as someone for whom The Dark Knight is actually my FOURTH Favorite Batman Movie (after Batman Returns, The Batman, and The Lego Batman Movie of course). The genius of Heath Ledgers Joker is that he sort of reveals what I think are the bare bones of the Jokers character and reveals why the Joker movie failed. The Joker isn't SUPPOSED to have a backstory or a reason. He's not SUPPOSED to make sense.
This is summed up in what Alfred says. "Some men can't be bullied, bargained, or reasoned with. Some men want to watch the world burn." And the Jokers quote "this is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object." "Do I look like the kind of guy with a plan? I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it!"
When Batman fights the Joker, he's not fighting a person whose motives you can pick apart and analyze. When Batman fights the Joker he is fighting the physical manifestation of the chaos Gotham fears most. Gotham is already gripped by crime. What if the criminals stopped having reason? What if money couldn't appease the mob? What if crime truly became cruel and indiscriminate.
With this interpretation of the Joker, it makes sense why he changes his story every time he says how he got his scars. Why no one can pinpoint where he came from or why he showed up. Why Batman can never really defeat him. The Jokers whole character concept at his core is that he's not so much a character but a mask given to an abstract concept. And the Dark Knight is the Batman movie that I believe best represents him as this unstoppable force.
