Centerfold - Part 5

Summary: Dean stumbles across an interview and photoshoot starring his high school crush (and younger brother’s friend) Castiel. He decides he’s going to stop at nothing to get back in touch with the boy with the blue eyes who used to sit in front of him in homeroom.

A/N: This whole series came out of a prompt for @thinkwritexpress-official‘s Back To School Challenge! The fic is based on the J Gelis Band song “Centerfold” in which a man finds his high school crush on the pages of his favorite porn magazine.

Dean was on his way home from the garage, giving himself a pep talk as he drove. “You can do this. Just man up and say ‘hello.’ It’s two damn syllables, it should be easy. You’ve got this.” Dean’s thumb, which had been hovering over the call button on his phone, touched down on the screen and he pressed the device to his ear. The phone rang twice, like it usually did, and then Castiel’s voice sounded through the earpiece.

“Hello?”

Dean opened his mouth to speak but, once again, he found himself tongue tied.

“Who the hell is this?” Cas asked his voice sounding angry, “Why do you keep calling?”

They were questions Castiel had asked before but Dean had never been able to answer out loud. Dean pulled his phone from his ear and hung up quickly, tossing it onto the seat next to him with frustration. He muttered to himself, berating his failure as he wondered what Cas thought of all of these phone calls. “Probably nothing good,” Dean mumbled into the quiet of the car.

Another mile or so down the road, there was a car stopped on the side of the road, its four way flashing lights turned on. Dean, needing a win, decided to stop and see if he could help out. He pulled over behind the vaguely familiar Lincoln Continental, though he couldn’t place why he recognized the car. It wasn’t one that he’d worked on at the garage recently, at least. Someone was leaning into the trunk, looking for something and as Dean got out of his Impala, he could see what the trouble was. The rear passenger tire was completely flat.

“You need a hand?” Dean called out as he approached.

The person at the trunk stood up and turned around. “I seem to have a flat tire. I’ve got a spare back here but no jack,” he explained.

Dean recognized him immediately. Cas. It was Cas. Here in Kansas. His gravelly voice sounded even deeper in person than over the phone. Dean pushed down his panic at being face to face with the object of his desire as best as he could. “What are you doing here, Cas?” Dean questioned, regretting his words and tone immediately.

“I’m sorry, do I know you?” Cas asked, a look of confusion on his face.

‘Shit,’ Dean thought, ‘I’ve already messed this up.’ “Yeah, uh, sorry. Dean Winchester, we went to high school together. I was just surprised to see you back in town.” Dean looked at Castiel’s car, something he could talk about without messing up, he hoped. “So, without a jack, it’s pretty much impossible to change your tire here. I work at Singer’s Auto. I can call the guys and get you towed and then give you a ride to wherever you were headed.” Dean hoped that he didn’t sound too eager.

Cas scoffed. “You don’t have to do that… Dean, right?” he replied. “I’ll figure something out. I’ve got AAA.”

Dean was already jogging back to his car for his phone. “At least let me call the guys to give you a tow,” he insisted. “You won’t get anything quicker with triple A and Singer’s is the best shop in town. The guys won’t over charge you or upsell you on work you don’t need.” He made the call before Cas could disagree. At least he’d have another chance to see the angel who had been haunting his dreams for the past month when Cas came to pick up his car the next day.

Dean turned, giving Cas the chance to tell him to hang up but, to his relief, he was met with a small smile and a “Thank you, Dean.” Once he hung up, he turned back to Cas.

“Benny is on his way. Here’s my card so you know where to find your car.” Dean handed Castiel a business card that proclaimed him manager of Singer’s Auto. “You sure I can’t give you a lift. You used to be good friends with my brother, Sam, and we were in homeroom together our senior year, I think,” Dean tried. He didn’t just think they had shared the start of their day, he knew that Cas had been there, always sitting in front of him, just out of reach, but he didn’t want to come on too strong. “I swear I’m not some creeper…” Dean’s voice trailed off as he realized that a creeper was exactly what he had been towards Cas over the past month.

Cas looked at him for a moment and chuckled at some private joke. “Sam’s brother… I remember you now,” Cas acquiesced. “I’m sure you’re not a creeper, as you put it, I just don’t want to inconvenience you, I’m sure you’ve got better things to do than drive an old acquaintance around.”

Dean kept himself from fidgeting, especially when Cas had said he wasn’t a creep. “It’s really not a big deal. Sam and I live together but he always works later than me,” he explained, “so there’s no one to miss me for the next couple of hours anyway.” Dean could see that he almost had Cas convinced so he amped up the charm. “Look, Cas, I honestly don’t mind and, if I’m being honest, most of my memories about you from high school involve me not being the most pleasant person that early in the morning… let me make it up to you and prove that I’m not a jerk after about 9 AM.”

Castiel smiled and nodded, “Alright, Dean, thank you.” He followed Dean over the Impala and climbed into the passenger seat.

Dean watched Cas out of the corner of his eye as the man took in his baby. He appreciated how Cas reverently ran his hands across the leather of the seat and Dean loved the look of joy on his face as his eyes roamed the car’s interior. Dean would be lying if he said he hadn’t imagined Cas sprawled out across the hood of his baby after seeing his shoot for Hot Rod Hotties and he wanted to ask Cas what he was thinking as he drank in the car but those words wouldn’t come. Instead he asked, “So, where were you headed when your tire went flat?”

Cas jumped a little, as if Dean’s question pulled him out of a daydream. “Oh, right,” he said, “I was on my way to the police station, actually. I hope that’s not too far out of your way.”

Dean was surprised by Castiel’s answer and his breath hissed out between his teeth. “It’s not but, uh, why were you heading there? If you don’t mind me asking.” He started the car and pulled back onto the road, trusting that Benny would take good care of Castiel’s car.

Cas looked over at Dean, studying him as he drove. “I need to file a police report, it’s actually why I’m back in Kansas,” he shared. His voice was quiet but, to Dean’s relief, he didn’t seem afraid of whatever was bringing him to the police. “I stayed in California for work after college but over the last month, my modeling has earned me a stalker and all of the phone calls are coming from this area.”

Dean didn’t like the sound of that and he was suddenly glad he had found Cas on the side of the road rather than whoever was…

“Oh, shit…” Dean realized. It was him. He was the stalker. Luckily his words didn’t give him away and he was able to play it off as sympathy, rather than the recognition that it was. “Hey, you know what? The cops’ll be there all night,” Dean offered, attempting to change the subject and putting off his becoming the center of a police report. “Why don’t we grab something to eat before I take you over there. My treat.”

Cas was an easier sell than Dean had expected and, soon after, they were seated in a booth at the back of The Roadhouse with a couple of beers and food on the way. The pair caught up and got to know each other, Dean not wanting to waste the one night he’d probably ever get with Cas. They ate, drank, and laughed, Cas calling Dean out for some of his more asshole moments in high school and Dean apologizing by buying another round of beers. Between the way Castiel’s eyes glittered when he would smile and the deep, resonant sound of his voice as he told Dean stories about his life in California, the evening was only reinforcing the crush that Dean had managed to harbor for the past fifteen or so years.

Dean was having an amazing time and, though it would ruin things between him and Cas, he knew he had to come clean about the phone calls. He really didn’t want to bring them up but he took a deep breath and steeled himself for the conversation that would ruin everything.

“So, Cas, about your stalker…”

is literally a ball of sunshine

a relationship with haechan would definitely resemble one of teenage love

it would probably be one of fun, laughter, smiles and adventure

i wouldn't say that a relationship with haechan would be more "immature" as compared to the other members

but it would definitely be more light-hearted and carefree

like, man, i can't even imagine haechan actually asking somebody out

and actually being shy about it

butttt i guess even if he was shy and embarrassed about asking somebody out

he would put on a brave front while doing it

even though it might have backfired

cue dreamies snickering at him in the background

but anyway! ! !

i feel that haechan would be inexperienced in relationships but would handle being in a relationship quite suavely

the first time haechan held your hand

he just wordlessly took your hand into his

as if it was nothing and that it did nothing to him

but behind the indifference of his actions

he would be super elated and his heart would be fluttery and all

aaaaaaaaa

you would easily be able to see the toothy grin on his face

because the grin would be sooooo big

haechan may look at you and then at your interlocked hands and then at the ground

a wide smile decorating his entire face the whole time because he couldn't hide his happiness

but he probably didn't want to explode with joy right there and then because he would be squealing and be hugging and just crushing you even though uall probably just got together

so to avoid it being too awkward by going too fast with all the skinship, he would just try hard to suppress his pure elation into a grin

which is going to be so wide you would wonder why his cheeks haven't torn apart yet

haechan would probably try to learn some "skills" here and there from dramas

like girls like guys to help them with stuff?

haechan would offer to help you carry your multiple books to class for you

girls like guys to actually compliment their looks that they spent forever to do?

he would always remember to praise the hard work you put into your intricate hairstyle or talk about how fabulous you looked ( even if you were dressed in a hoodie and jeans or smthg because that would totally be me lmao)

girls like guys to cook them something (edible)?

haechan's cooking wasn't the best (well at least he could cook)

but he may specially prepare lunches for both of you from time to time

and you would be able to really feel haechan's sincerity in his cooking so you would be really thankful and like asdfghjkl when he appears in front of you with lunch boxes for both of you

but even if haechan did try to pick up some "skills" from dramas and what he observes from other people in relationships

he would probably be quite a natural boyfriend since he would just shower you with affection and love

he would love to mindlessly play with your fingers and your hair

playing with your fingers whenever he is bored or nervous, exploring every fingertip and every bend of your fingers

twisting and twirling your hair around his fingers

and probably sniffing into your hair too, being unconsciously allured by the smell of your shampoo since it reminded him of you

haechan would probably know whenever you're feeling happy sad angry down

so he would specially do certain things to make you feel better

like taking you to impromptu ice cream or cafe dates

or putting a sincere handwritten letter into your locker

or merely just cheering you up with Sunshine Haechan™ by your side

throwing some random jokes to you

and checking out your response every time he says a joke

he might be slightly disappointed to see that his jokes do not cheer you up sometimes

but he wouldn’t be discouraged since his main goal was to make you happy

after getting into a relationship with you,

you became haechan’s main source of happiness

so much that whenever he is sad, the people around him would usually guess correctly when they predict that it is because you yourself were sad

hence making haechan moody the whole day

but with haechan by your side

your shitty mood would usually dissipate by the end of the day

because who could stand not feeling better with the presence of lee donghyuck

haechan and you would probably be the kind of couple who would enjoy having movie marathon dates

either at the theatres or at haechan’s or your house

but most of the time, both of you would unanimously opt for going to the cinemas to watch movies

because whenever both of you were at home,

uall would receive A LOT of teasing and shipping from your family members and the nct members themselves

no joke tho

your friends and family members would notice a few differences in your behaviour here and there after you got together with haechan

like you randomly giggling to yourself while daydreaming or while looking at your phone

anybody could predict that you were thinking of your one and only boyfriend

and also you instinctively picking up your phone when it vibrated during dinner time

and your face instantly lighting up

your parents would definitely be like *👀 is that my son-in-law* *who am i kidding, it must be.*

your parents, friends and nct members being the biggest fans in your relationship with haechan HAHA

OKAY LET’S GET BACK TO THE MOVIE DATE

i can totally imagine haechan being the cheeky little boy he is

reenacting the cliche movie scene and purposely calculating the time you put your hand into the popcorn bowl

so that he could put his into the bowl too and just casually interlocking your hands with his inside the bowl

and probably surprising you

but he would turn and look at your flustered expression

chuckling and using his other hand to grab some popcorn to feed you

his fingers accidentally brushing against your lips

an action which would definitely be noticed by both haechan and you

you might blush really badly but haechan may decide to tease you even further and lick his fingers

making your face officially turn into an extremely ripe tomato

! ! !

yes and of course, with haechan being the official certified cuddler

he would loveeeeeee cuddling with you

first few months into the relationship he would be quite shy to think about cuddling with you

but later into the relationship

you would never know when you were going to be attacked by haechan’s cuddles or hugs

they would come at the most unexpected moments tbh

haechan would love! hugging! you! regardless! of! where! both! of! you! were!

in school by your locker? HUGS

in class when your teacher wasn’t looking? HUGS

okay but that action would be seen by the whole class and would have students either cringing in a corner or whistling at the both of you

at home in front of your or his parents? HUGS

this kid wouldn’t even care because your hugs were the best to him, they were his solace

AAAAAAAAA I LOVE HUGS

okay but cuddling with haechan

would be so WARMMM

if you were feeling cold or slightly sick,

haechan wouldn’t even hesitate to snuggle you into bed, get onto the bed with you, gently bring the blanket over the both of you, and just envelop you in his embrace

nuzzling his face into your neck as both of you just lay there silently and comfortably

the body warmth radiating out from him would warm you up and make you feel better

you felt warm inside and outside

as expected of when receiving love from the sun himself

his cuddles would be so comfortable you would fall asleep quickly and sleep really soundly

even if you were insomnious, being wrapped in haechan’s arms would be so comforting and reassuring, like a lullaby, and you would find yourself getting sleepy soon

and can i just talk about how dorky haechan would literally brighten even the darkest of your days? ? ?

his hands would be so fidgety as he craved for your touch

after a day of not seeing you, he would probably pounce at you

squeezing you till your guts are on the verge of bursting

“(Y/N)-ah, let’s get out of here, okay? the hyungs and kids can go by themselves. :DD i just want to be alone with you asap aaa”

ya haechan who asked you to be that cute (｀Д´*) my heart will go soft for you nooooo

okay i haven’t done this for a while

but, fights.

tension would probably arise between you and haechan due to some immature remarks or pranks that haechan might have made

he might have said them in the spur of the moment or was simply being a bit insensitive to your current mood then

which would result in some unhappiness on your side

but to haechan, it probably would have seen to been nothing much and he wouldn’t understand why you were getting so worked up over it

haechan might storm off, irritated, leaving you behind

even though haechan wouldn’t like to have arguments or disagreements with you

he wouldn’t really know how to resolve the disagreement either

hence a third party would probably be needed to patch up things between the both of you

usually it would be the nct hyungs ( probably taeyong or doyoung, our 2 moms who would be too worried about the both of you )

they would probably force the both of you to sit down and talk things out

both of you might grunt in retaliation and annoyance coming from both sides would be evident

but with their help, you and haechan would clear up whatever unhappiness was between the both of you

and by the next day, uall woud be the lovey dovey couple again

haechan would really like to sing to you

but i mean who’s complaining ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

being blessed by that angelic voice

going to karaoke with him would probably be a blast

i would like to end this soon in case it gets too long

so let me add a last part! in relation to my nct members getting jealous post

jealous haechan would be sassy haechan

because nobody touches his adorable little girl yeah

haechan may not really be physically protective, but would definitely express his displeasure when somebody tries to flirt with you or shows interest in you

haechan would probably come up with some savage remark to make the other party back off

“you think you are good enough to steal (Y/N) away from me? well, think again. low quality beef will never win over high quality beef, gO FIND YOUR OWN BEEFBALL, (Y/N) iS MY BEEFBALL. MINE.”

guys okay so i watched ordinal scale and im literally dying. like i stepped out of the theatre and my hands were SHAKING!! that’s just how good the movie was!!! but i can’t express all my feelings towards the movie in such a small text post like this, so im gonna go full-on sao trash under the read more. feel free to click on it if you want my opinion on the movie!~ (will contain spoilers ofc lmao)

okay so i wanna start by firstly saying that ordinal scale is a straight up 10/10! i would literally not change anything about the movie. it was perfect - the characterisations, the action, the animation, the music, the story, the pacing, it was all perfection!!!! so now onto the actual story itself…

i LOVED the augma!!!! the whole concept of it being a connection between vr and reality was amazing imo, and will definitely influence technology in the future! also the fact that it also had a full dive function was a rlly well thought out addition that was just enough of a twist to surprise me! plus the augma was best exhibited in a movie environment - the fx sounds were absolutely stunning, and left me awe stuck as the clang of swords rang through the cinema! i myself felt nervous as kirito and asuna versed the bosses from their past, and got chills down my spine if they tripped (rip kirito)

this also leads me to asuna’s character development in the movie. i want to thank the producers and kawahara-sensei so so much for giving asuna as big a role as she played in the movie!!! i know that kirito is the overall protagonist, but allowing asuna to grow as well made me happy enough to cry aaa… and i felt that the way that kawahara-sensei dealt with her ptsd was also really thoughtful and well handled. i know that losing her memories was a big part of why she was suffering, but it was obvious that she had demons from her past that began to eat away at her when she was wounded in ordinal scale. her nightmares were physically heartbreaking to watch, and seeing her cry without kirito being able to help her ruined me tbh… but im just so glad that she became so much stronger for it!!!

this also leads me to express how mature kirito and asuna’s relationship is becoming!!! no longer are they the love-struck teens who can’t keep their hands off each other. they handle issues in such a responsible way, and they know each other better than themselves tbh!!! when asuna dropped that tea cup in alo, kirito knew that she would be able to get through it in her own way, in her own time, and he knew that she had that power! also asuna cares about kirito’s health so much - making sure he’s eating right, checking up on him - just like a real long-term relationship couple. domestic fluff hurts me in the best way jkhljk

i also loved the present that he got for asuna!!! i very much doubt that it was an engagement ring as i have heard people stipulate, but im 100% sure it’s a commitment ring!!! and the romantic date under the stars where they shared a tender kiss… aaAA I DIED!!!

one thing im also so glad for was the role that sinon was given!!! im honestly so happy that she wasn’t removed to the sidelines and made a background character. although she wasn’t a sao survivor, the way she held her ground against sao bosses, and the level 100 boss was outstanding, and was very true to her character - she would defeat any enemy to strengthen her heart, and the fact that she was given the opportunity even in an ar like ordinal scale was a wonderful choice!!

now onto the whole ‘levels that weren’t played’ situation. i think it was rlly insightful into where progressive might take us! we now know the level 91 and level 100 bosses, and having defeated at least one of them in ordinal scale, im certain that the same could be done eventually in progressive. it also showed how sao could have gone imo! the design of the final boss was AWESOME and their attacks were worthy of praise as the ‘final’! ofc they had to fit the fight into a movie, but i would love to know how exactly a boss like that would be defeated over a proper time span - at least hours would have to be dedicated to beating them tbh! and the actual 100th level itself had such beautiful scenery! i was really curious to see more of the world from that level, but im sure that will eventually come into being. the bridges and lakes were so glistening and pretty oh my gosh…

but man that scene with asuna dealing the final blow with the spirit of yuuki by her side as she performed mother’s rosario made me cry!!!! YOU CANT JUST DO THAT??? MY HEART CAN ONLY HANDLE SO MUCH EMOTIONAL STRESS!!!! I WAS SHAKING ASUNA LOVES YUUKI SO MUCH AAAA

ALSO THE SWORD THAT KIRITO GOT FOR BEATING THE 100TH LEVEL!!! WTF IS THAT!!!! IT WAS SO COOL YET SO OP!!!! I WANT THAT SWORD OMGGG!!!!

that aside, now onto yuna! I LOVED YUNA! she was such an amazing character, and proof of what could happen to ai’s with enough technological prowess. her singing was pretty, and her love for asuna made me laugh - especially seeing kirito’s reaction to her kissing her LMAO! she was also so sweet and selfless, only wanting to allow others to enjoy the life she had lost to sao, and make her father happy again… her connections between sao and ordinal scale were very believable, as she and eiji were both in the game, and she was the product of a quite realistic struggle of a father who lost the one he loves most… the way he went about making her was unethical, but it was understandable enough to feel pity for yuna. also her singing voice was amazing, and her version of smile for you was so nostalgic and sentimental - took me right back to the original sao… :’) plus her relationship with eiji was so so cute!!!! aaAA!

i myself thought that eiji was an amazing character!!! his motives to inflict sao-level fear into ordinal scale were understandable, as the loss of a friend is very hard to deal with alone. but man, when he broke klein’s arm, I WAS SO SHOCKED! like this boy is SUPER fit omg lmao! poor klein…. ; v ; but i do agree that his means of getting revenge for those who did not recognise him during the sao incident weren’t right - meaning he was a believable antagonist. he must have felt like he went through sao for nothing, if to not be mentioned in the sao archives, and this would therefore spark hatred, but hurting others is just as bad… that’s why yuna’s father was also to be pitied… he thought his daughter deserved to be recognised for her life, and therefore becoming a vrmmorpg ai diva would gain her attention, but it was only fuelling her father’s fantasy, which was not an ideal dream to have. but he eventually realised the fault of his ways and moved on, which i think was great development for him - to not follow the path of kayaba and instead continue to live life the way he used to for yuna… so sweet….

the way that kirito cared for asuna when she lost her memory was so lovely tbh! he was with her the whole time, supporting her in the ways he knew how, and even taking her to the doctors??? like what a good boy!!!! he always did those subtle things to show her support, and she knew it and was thankful for it (like reading her diary to ensure she remembered him, at least). i just want them to get married and love each other forever is that too much to ask gkfkddk

ALSO THE FAMOUS BOOB SCENE!!!! okay i admit i yelled when kirito kissed asuna and layed on her chest. IT WAS JUST SO PRECIOUS AND HE CARES FOR HER SO MUCH!!!! SHUT UP OH MY GOD!!!!

basically overall my kids have grown up so much and they continue to grow even now! the story was so original and breath taking, even inside the sao franchise, and the characters were the same lovely faces, yet they have developed so much to overcome their trauma and live every day the best they can. the music was masterful, the animation was brilliant, and i just couldn’t believe they fit so much into 2 hours yet make it not rushed, and squeeze the most out of every moment they could! seeing my children on the big screen was enough to make me cry, and i just want them all to be happy, and live life for themselves and each other, like the little family they are!!!

thank you a1 pictures and madman for allowing me to see this wonderful movie with my own eyes in a real cinema, and once again rekindle my love for the best series ever made! gosh sao is literally my life source and im still shaking tbh after the announcement of season 3 aaaa

Gamers Heroes’ 2018 Game of the Year Awards

2018 has been one of the most exciting years for video-game releases in recent memory. In just 12 months, we saw the return of iconic AAA franchises, the birth of brand new, innovative IPs, and the indie scene launch genre-defining games on a near weekly basis. As this year comes to a close, it’s time to pay homage to the greatest gaming achievements of 2018.

A few years back, we decided to mix up our Game of the Year Awards and do things a little differently. The quality, variety, and sheer number of incredible games that release every year makes it near impossible, and definitely unfair, to pick just a single game. As such, we give our prestigious Game of the Year Award to the top five greatest games to grace any and all platforms throughout the year. In no particular order, we present to you the best games of 2018.

As I am writing this, I’m thinking about how crazy it is that a racing game is on a list of the best games of 2018. We had some incredible games this year, and Forza Horizon 4 is absolutely one of them. Forza brings fun racing to anyone and everyone. You are rewarded for doing nearly everything, from crashing into obstacles to getting the highest speed at a speed trap. It emphasizes the whole “play how you want to play” mantra as much as it can in a racing game. To top it off, the entire thing is online and can easily be enjoyed with friends.

The fact that the entirety of this title is online and it runs so well is a testament to the game itself. There could easily be more than 25 highly detailed cars on screen at once, and the game still runs perfectly. The story is admittedly weak, but you won’t even notice it because of all the amazing events to do. The bar has been raised, and we are eagerly waiting to see how Turn 10 Studios and Playground Games can top themselves in Forza Horizon 5.

Forza Horizon 4 absolutely nails the driving experience with its tight handling and dynamic seasons, and is as close as you can get to a perfect racing game. (Full Review)

Throughout 2018 a monster lurked, waiting to appear late in the year. Put simply, the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2 was a spectacle. We set out sights on people in cowboy hats, dogs in cowboy hats, and even lizards in cowboy hats. We all had waited for the beast to rear its head so we could finally see what Rockstar Games’ newest piece had to offer. High acclaim for the original Red Dead Redemption set expectations high, for more than just the stockholders. It was a phenomenon that had the entire industry focused on two things: Arthur Morgan and Red Dead Redemption 2.

It was a story of an outlaw who rode with John Marston and Dutch, and masterfully set up the story of the original Red Dead Redemption. Red Dead Redemption 2 had the best visuals, some of the best characters, and one of the best stories of 2018. It was also home to some of the best side missions in 2018, giving meaning to the quests instead of just sending the player out on errands. The online mode might be a bit barren at the moment, but the potential is limitless.

Surprising absolutely no one, Red Dead Redemption 2 is easily a game of the year contender, if not the winner. Rockstar Games knocks it out of the park once again, and we are eagerly awaiting Red Dead Online. (Full Review)

I remember my reaction to Monster Hunter: World when it was announced at E3. Finally, a new Monster Hunter was coming to home consoles. Expectations were high, and they hit the mark in every way. Epic monsters to slay, tons of new weapons and armor to craft, and a large amount of post-launch content sounded like a recipe for success. The collaboration content alone has been impressive, and next year we get Geralt and a new expansion. It’s no surprise that some people claim this to be the best Monster Hunter yet, and I have a hard time disagreeing.

Monster Hunter: World brought the game to a whole new audience that hadn’t tried the series before. The more simplified UI and more straightforward mechanics made it so anyone could enjoy the game. The endgame hunts and certain missions still brought a huge challenge to series veterans as well. Monster Hunter: World was able to satisfy new fans without alienating its entire core audience. It’s a transition that doesn’t always work, but here it worked – and then some.

Whether you are a veteran hunter or a newcomer to the series, Monster Hunter World is a great action game to play by yourself or with friends. You can easily get lost in the game for more than 100 hours, and not regret it for a second. (Full Review)

Moonlighter is a story about a young man who has inherited a shop from his grandpa. Dungeon delver by night and salesman by day, you have to bring items back to the shop to sell them. There’s just one small catch: if you die, you lose all your items and have to start at the beginning of the dungeon. What’s the plan? Sell enough items to upgrade your equipment and then bash the enemies heads in. Bring back more loot, earn more cash, and repeat.

There were a lot of good indies in 2018, but Moonlighter stood out above the rest. Combining rogue-lite elements with simulation mechanics, we found ourselves addicted to the game until the very end. When paired with a great soundtrack and a beautiful visual style, you have yourself a recipe for a great indie. We hold out hope for an expansion or a sequel.

Moonlighter is an exciting action adventure-shop simulator game that shouldn’t be skipped. If you have any interest in running a shop and dungeon diving, then this game is for you. (Full Review)

If there was an award for the biggest evolution of a video-game franchise, it would be God of War. Completely redefining the creative direction of the franchise, Santa Monica Studio and Sony Interactive Entertainment took the opportunity to release a game that would forever change the God of War series. Stepping away from the linearity of past iterations, the eighth title in the series delivered a massive open-world experience filled with character, charm, death and desire, touching every part of the emotional spectrum.

A creative, immersive, and expansive game world was bought to life with one of the years best soundtracks, a wonderful father-son dynamic, and the gritty backdrop of Norse Mythology. That’s without mentioning the challenging endgame content, ever-evolving combat system, and absolutely awesome ending. Seriously? Have you seen it? If you’ve yet to play God of War, what are you waiting for? Boy.

Every facet of God of War has been created as a labor of love. Seldom do we see such a complete, such a whole experience in modern gaming. God of War is nothing short of a modern day masterpiece. (Full Review)

expectation: man i can’t wait to romance a bunch of cute batchelors reality: MOVE OVER I NEED TO ESTABLISH MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS WITH MY NEW FATHER-IN-LAW

seriously i fuckin.. made my final decision on who to marry just because Porcoline i narrowed it down to leon, dylas or arthur but really leon didn’t stand a chance when he doesnt have a Sweet Hilarious Dad Figure In He Life ‘fuck yes accept me into the restaurant fam’ i love porcoline SO MUCH and I am so glad that they actually did give him a lot of scenes and significant character development, even if it was all optional random events. i was just so damn relieved that i wasnt just making up some stupid headcanon, this comic relief man IS INDEED more complex than he seems and CANONICALLY CONSIDERS THESE PEOPLE LIKE HIS VALUED CHILDREN WHO GIVE HIM A REASON TO LIVE and I dunno if you get a similar scene with the other two restaurant employees but when i married dylas he ADMITTED HE SEES PORCO AS THE DAD HE ALWAYS WANTED, AND GIVES HIM DAD ROLE IN THE WEDDING AND JUST *just* *just fuckin lays on the floor and dies from how satisfying this whole plotline is*

not that i didn’t love all the romance plots too but i just felt like this quality friendship with a comedy dad was the best fuckin bit and it enhanced those romances so much damn more like i like dolce the best of the female options cos i love her family scenes with the doctor couple too the ones who have the best fleshed out family relationships just make the wedding so much more CRYING FOREVER but i mean porco is still unique in being my favourite even above the damn guy i married lol fuckin PORCO IN MY PARTY ERRYDAY i will appreciate this sweet lonely dad and his immense comedic power he could have been a character entirely on his own and i would still want to hug him and maybe even get MORE FEELS because like OH NO HE IS NOT FULLFILLING HIS DESTINED ROLE AS THE PERFECT DAD SO CAN HE BE MY DAD INSTEAD THEN screw marriage routes i want adopt-a-parental-figure routes show up amnesiac in a town full of various adorable middle aged men and go on Epic Quests to win their fatherhood for your own

also seriously i fuckin love that he’s like The One And Only “Funny Pervert” Character I Have Ever Not Hated cos like he hits on you but its clearly a playful joke he’s never malicious or creepy with it, its always just super exaggerated parody of the trope, and he’s very well established as a genuinely good guy who would never actually do anything horrible. its not the super common trope of the “funny pervert” being a guy who LEGITIMATELY SEXUALLY HARASSES PEOPLE AND GETS FORGIVEN FOR IT and there’s like SO MANY scenes of him backing off immediately and respecting your boundaries when you say no?? like you get to decide between several punchlines to his comedic antics sometimes, and quite often one of them is “you say yes, he gets super flustered and takes it back” and then like his character development is going from flirting with you to like being a mentor mayor type and also hey lets learn about how his personality is really more defined by his platonic love for all these son and daughter figures, and WHOOPS he ends up seeing you the same way in the end and the flirting becomes literally just a joke now. poor guy seriously, he has that backstory of his one and only love dying a long time ago and he adopted her kid that was left behind, and now no matter how much he searches for a new love in his life he just ends up stumbling onto more children and also a large and complex web of platonic friendships with everyone else in town who deeply respects and cares for him. seriously its so sweet that he’s like.. found a new reason to live?? found a happy ending even if he never found love again?? found that he doesnt necessarily need to remarry to get that happy ending. found that he has a secret talent of being Everybody’s Perfect Dad and they all just CARE ABOUT HIM SO MUCH AAA (even if i wish that aaa all his backstory tidbits werent so hidden in forty different random events..)

and also its like.. more endearing because he’s like the only canonically bisexual character in the game that is actually allowed to outright say it and not be just all ‘wink wink nudge nudge but im really straight really’. I feel like i actually lost a LOT from the game by playing as the female character on my first playthrough, i had NO CLUE that he still does the jokey flirting even if you pick a dude! it adds a lot to his character to imagine him as not just The Everybody Dad but also like.. Supportive LGBTQ Dad In A Town Of ‘Oh We Can’t Outright Say Anyone Is Not Straight’. Seriously he even actually has scenes of being like shipper support for his kids’s annoyingly-vague hints of being bisexual that can never actually be an option cos the game is cruel. Porco: yo literally it is blatantly obvious that dylas has a crush on doug why is there no actual option for them to get married Me: I KNOW RITE?? porco is my fuckin relateable friend, yo im still salty that apparantly they were allowed to get away with having an outwardly bisexual character as long as it was a “comedy thing” and then they were allowed to just friggin hint that other characters were bi but NOOO you still cant marry them as the other gender and you cant see them hook up with their Heavily Hinted Crush if you don’t marry them. I felt so guilty marrying Dylas or Doug or Meg or Forte... and Dolce is double weird cos the game keeps being all ‘hey Pico is totally her adopted sister but also has CLEARLY A MASSIVE GAY CRUSH ON HER’ like hey i love both characters but seriously can we not have this creepy unfortunate implications of the censorship vagueness failing to remove the gay and instead just making her look incestuous... anyway porco u are the LGBT icon this game needs, can you be the head of the writing staff for rf5 lol

also like seriously if the rune factory series ever comes back i would love u forever if you add some canonical gay options like in a way its even more torturous to have the game discussing the possibility and dropping hints for you to headcanon it and stuff but then you know it’ll never be canon... *sigh*
