#this kid is amazing and holy shit his drumming
Text
imagine being 21, like freshly 21, at the end of 2020 or really early 2021, and you're hoping the pandemic is ending. you've played the drums since like second grade and you're pretty good so you list yourself on fivrr 'cause people need a drummer sometimes for any number of reasons. and you take a gig for some little pandemic band to do studio drums for the EP they're trying to record. And after the first session one of them is like "hey you're actually a really good drummer, instead of us paying you would you like to just join the band?" and like, sure that sounds super cool, and their music's good, so you do. and then two years later you've got a top 10 EP and are being featured in fucking rolling stone. At the ripe age of 23.
i'm just saying, Mark Boardman's life is fucking insane, dude.

The adrenaline from the show is still running through your veins as you pack up your kit, humming to the song blasting from the stage as you brush away the hair sticking to your face. There were significantly more people in the stands than your last show, probably due to the leaked photos of you and Johnny cuddling up to each other at one of his movie premieres. It wasn't long after that people found out who you were, and your band's popularity sky-rocketed in the following weeks.
You shove the duffel bags and drums into the back of the van, a smile cracking your tired expression when your eyes fall on him.
"That was fuckin' amazing."
His hands encase your face, littering your face in kisses as you laugh quietly, weakly pushing at his chest.
"Don't, I'm all sweaty."
He sticks one more kiss to your lips, big grin plastered to his face as he looks at you. "Arguably hotter."
You roll your eyes, shoving his hands away and pushing the doors closed with a sigh. "I almost don't even want to go to the club. The excitement is wearing off and now I'm just exhausted."
He steps closer to pull you into his chest, hands grabbing at your hips to keep you in place as he presses another kiss to the corner of your mouth.
"You and I both know damn well they'll chew you out if you ditch 'em. Y'know, for a rockstar, you sure are a goody two-shoes."
You punch his chest lightly before slinking your arms around his neck, pouting a bit. "Am not. I just like to sleep."
You huff quietly when the van's horn blares, reluctantly pulling your arms away.
"Beat it, Cage! You're holding up our drummer!"
"Fine. She's all yours." He waves at the girl hanging out the passenger window, dropping one more soft kiss to your lips as he lets you go. "I'll meet you there. Don't have too much fun without me."
You're ushered toward the bar as soon as you step into the lounge, opting to sit on one of the stools and wait for Johnny while your friends disappear into the crowd. You busy yourself with your phone, and you fail to notice someone staring at you from across the room, slowly approaching you through the sea of people drunkenly dancing.
"Hey."
You jump a bit at the voice, eyes finding a man suddenly taking up the space in the previously empty seat beside you, but you shoot him a tight-lipped smile despite the spook.
"Hi."
"You're from that new punk-rock band right? The tough…tough something?"
You perk up a bit, eager at the opportunity to meet a fan. "Ruff puppies, yeah. Spelled r-u-f-f."
He nods with a small laugh. "Right. Not the best with band names. But yeah, I've heard a ton of your songs. Shit's sick."
"Thanks. We actually just came from a show a couple blocks down."
He hums, waving down the bartender. "What's your preference?"
You shake your head with a small smile, waving a hand in the air. "Oh, I'm not drinking tonight. I'm just here for moral support."
"Let me buy you something else then. How about a coke?"
You shrug. "Really, it's not necessary–"
He orders a beer and a coke, shooting you a warmer smile. "This is probably the only time I'll ever get to buy the pretty drummer from Ruff Puppies a drink. I'm gonna take it."
You flush the slightest at the compliment.
"Your latest album by the way? Best shit I've heard in the scene in a hot minute. And, from one drummer to another, you're insane."
You spend the next few minutes shooting band recommendations and techniques back and forth before his eyes wander behind you, mouth falling open a bit, and you follow his gaze to find Johnny ambling over to you, the traces of a scowl on his face.
"Holy shit. You're Johnny Cage, right? Man, I love your movies. Ninja Priest was so good."
"Yeah. I appreciate it." He turns to you, snaking a hand around your waist. "Can I talk to you real quick?"
You knit your brows together, but you nod all the same, excusing yourself and following him into a secluded corner of the club, tilting your head as you look at him.
"What's up?"
"Who was that?"
The wrinkle between your eyebrows deepens. "You're talking about the kid? He's a fan of the band. He was just asking about my drumming."
He huffs a bit. "If he's a fan, he should know you have a boyfriend."
"Johnny."
His eyes aren't on you, instead drifting over your shoulder to glare at the person in question. "He bought you a drink."
You roll your eyes, slipping your fingers into his belt loops and pulling him closer. "It's just a coke, Johnny. Don't be like that." You press a kiss to his chin, leaning against him.
"Be like what? I'm not being like anything. 'M just not crazy about random dudes flirting with my girlfriend."
You bite back a laugh, hooking a finger in the collar of his shirt to pull him closer, kissing him softly. "You're cute when you're jealous."
He grumbles as you draw back, hands resting on your waist as he continues to avoid your eyes. "I'm not jealous. And I definitely wouldn't be jealous of that little rat."
"Mhm…whatever you say, babe." He finally looks at you fully, softening a bit at your smile. "I think you need to loosen up a bit. On me?"
You drag him back to the bar, and you're about to sit back down when he lifts you from the stool, taking your spot and pulling you down into his lap instead, and you fight against his strong hold in a weak attempt to get away.
"You're so embarrassing. Let go."
His arms tighten around you, and any attempt to pry them from your waist is futile, hiding your flushed face in your hands as he chuckles.
"I just wanna make sure everyone here knows you're already spoken for."

So, @da-proti-toku-grem kind of inspired me to make a lengthy post, sharing some positive vibes across the fandom, listing the reasons why I love each member of Joker Out and why I would go full mom-mode on them and cook for them and bake them gluten-free cookies.
Anyway:
A Joker Out, brain-rot, appreciation post
(members listed in alphabetical order)
Bojan
Tumblr media
First up - as someone who had the chance to see them live, he is an insane performer
His ability to enchant the crowd is insane and you can tell really well that he has great acting abilities too
Watched him in Gospod Profesor too, spot on for someone who is a so-called amateur
His singing voice is... amazing to say the least, it feels really unique
Also, the way he talks, the sound of his voice, the words he uses, his pronunciation, if there were awards for talking he would get one
The languages he speaks, I want to study him, linguistically, he is truly a phenomenon
We of course love a bilingual king
He looks like he has his priorities straight
I also respect him so much for how open he is about his mental illness
I might relate to him a bit too much at times whoops
And the fact that he can somehow befriend literally anyone??? Love that
His friendship with Jere is the main one of course
Oh yeah and the fact that he literally helped people who collapsed at their gigs a few times
Bless him, he deserves all the rest he is hopefully getting
Jan
Tumblr media
First things first, I have a soft spot for math guys
And the way he talks about math is fascinating (but you still won't get me to like it Jan)
Cat dad???? We absolutely adore Igor and a man loving cats is such a green flag
I know people say he mumbles a bit and it's hard to understand him at times, but idk, he talks nice and slowly, so it's still really easy to understand him
He comes from my home region, so I am very biased haha
Also, every band needs a guitarist with luscious locks
He absolutely owns the colour red, that colour was invented specifically for him
The nose ring suits him so well too, this man KNOWS what fits him
And if that ends up being jackets with nothing underneath when he performs, THEN SO BE IT
I know people call Kris the lesbian icon, but from what I've seen lesbians are very drawn to Jan as well
Oh, and he gives me Klaus from the Umbrella Academy vibes (I blame the hair and the pink boa)
Jure
Tumblr media
Holy shit, sunshine in human form????
The most underappreciated one in the band imo
His surname literally means 'cat' and I am so normal that Jan has called him 'muca'
He also comes from my region haha, bias again
He's really good at filming, he actually shot a few things for RTV (national TV station) and edited them as well, god, talent
Also playing drums... I have sang, I have played guitar, played bass, but drums is something I feel like I could NEVER do, so hats off to you
As @da-proti-toku-grem pointed out, THE MOLE ON HIS LIP? weak knees, yes
He also reminds me of a good friend of mine and I vibe with him so much, I feel like I would vibe with Jure as well
I really don't like the fact that drummers tend to get ignored and I just wish there was more Jure performing content
Though I love it how every time, during Novi Val, he comes to the front and hangs with the others
His hair also looks so soft and fluffy aaaaaa
Again, biased but he resembles my bf the most out of everyone so hmmmm
Kris
Tumblr media
The baby of the band! (and the only one in the band I could actually call 'mulc')
In case you didn't know yet, he's half Dutch
And he speaks Dutch, which, as someone who speaks Dutch (in theory, not in practice) makes me really happy
I wish to study him linguistically as well
Also his parents' story feels very close to me, as I'm dating outside of my culture as well
According to him he was menace as a kid and I think we should normalise the fact that you can become a better person as you grow up
But pls don't honk at me on the road Kris, pls, I will cry
The songs he wrote??? NGVOT and Vse kar vem??? Oh boy, I love them, adore them
His holey sweaters are also a vibe
Dutch fans, if you don't shower him and the rest of the band with gifts at their Dutch concerts, I will be mad
Also gotta honorably mention Maks
They gotta be my fav nepo-but-not-really babies out there
Kinda like Maya Hawke?
I am ranting
He also looks like the only member of the band that I would fight, and idk why
Also, I must know if he supports Max Verstappen haha
Minus points for chemistry though, I cannot with that
Nace
Tumblr media
Okay everyone
Here we go
We have reached my beloved
I love all of them, but Nace just a bit more
It was love at first sight, I cannot lie
I have a soft spot for bassists and he might actually convince me to try and play bass again
He has been playing it for so long too??? like wow
Oh and of course; THE TATTOOS, BLESSETH BE THE TATTOOS
I will always go feral about his tattoos
At every concert
I know he was the last to join the band but it looks like he fits in so nicely, it's beautiful
Strong mom-codded dad friend vibes
He kinda is the dad of the band haha
And he looks like he gives amazing hugs (lucky all of you who had managed to get one already)
A nice addition to the band
Oh and he's apparently shit at sports which is like... felt
Plus the fact that he wanted to be a vet?
Me too boo, me too, but neither of us is there now
Anway, I'll stop now. In conclusion, this band has my whole heart and they deserve every good thing that happens to them and so much more.

Camelot 2023 Act 2 ramblings about the music and book and also the visuals again because turns out one post wasn't enough.
I still cannot possibly recommend anyone actually read this because it is so absurdly, comically long but I still needed to get even more feelings out.
Act 2, Scene 1: The castle courtyard one year later:
• "We shouldn't be alone together" like girl
• I love how she's almost exasperated by it
• When she fantasized about this all-consuming high-stakes love she probably didn't think about how exhausting it would be to actually live with it all the time
• Like having this conversation every single month does sound exhausting
• The way she's actively trying to drive him out of Camelot, Genny is so much and I respect it
• She's really doing her best in a way that involves truly torturing Lance, he should really do some soul searching about why he loves someone who treats him this way
• "I've trained dogs to chase you"/"And those dogs were fast.. the expression his bark is worse than his bite that wasn't my experience"
• Sorkin slightly breaking the tension of this scene which is so needed
• "You're not English"/"Neither are you"/"I think that changed when I became queen of England"
• I also feel like there is a lot to unpack in this exchange
• "And when would I do that Genny?"
• The angst in that delivery
• If Ever I Should Leave You is so gorgeous
• I think it was Sorkin who basically said that the show doesn't need magic because the songs provide enough magic on their own and this is the perfect example
• Jordan Donica is tremendous
• I knew him from Charmed and it took me a bit to place him but holy shit
• I may have actually seen him before, I'd have to check but regardless I need to be paying attention to literally any theater he does because I want to go
• This applies to all of them, who am I kidding
• Anyway, he's amazing here and I am probably underselling him in this post because I only saw him half the times and so my memories are much less clear
• And my reference is closing which was not him by this point
• And the outro music (? sorry I know nothing about music) is absolutely stunning
• This song is so romantic but also very shallow
• They're fulfilling a version of love that is all big gestures and big feelings but not necessarily substance
• Because they're trying to fill a void in themselves using the other and when you do that, you can't see the person as an actual person
• Just an extension of your unmet need
• Which is too bad because I think if they weren't, they might actually like each other
• But fuck is this song so romantic
• Every lyric is good, the way they're sung, I think I may for the first time have use of the phrase swoon worthy
• Specifically the end
• "I have a thrilling engagement. I'm giving prizes at the potato show. I'm eager to find out what the qualities of a prize winning potato are"/"I'll be at your side Ma'am"/"Thank goodness for that, those potatoes can be dangerous"
• The lines are so funny and her delivery is so heartbreaking, I am suffering
• I do just love Genny so much and she deserves happiness dammit
• "So the rumors are true, the chain of wedlock is so heavy in Camelot it takes three to carry it"
• Mordred coming out with the one liners immediately
• "He's willing to make any old man a knight I see"
• Pelli immediately threatening violence, beautiful
• The whininess of "I shall be busy tomorrow afternoon" and slapping the bench
• Fourteen year old edgelord Mordred
• Very interesting to have him be a year younger than Arthur was when he became king, really underscoring how young he was
• "I was raising by a mother with a fatally broken heart. Makes for a dark childhood"
• Like do we think Mordred is just trying to drum up Arthur's sympathies or is this actually true?
• "And when you speak to the king, you should remember you're speaking to the king"
• Arthur literally never insists on any manner of kingly respect but his son is a little shit that he hates, so he will
• Love that
• "Dispatch to the court, the king has a child he fathered out of wedlock. Problem solved."
• The blackmail just instantly failing is very funny
• Also would love to know how the conversation about this between Genny and Arthur went
• "I'm not ashamed of you. You don't embarass me though it's not for lack of trying."
• That's too generous, Mordred is embarrassing
• "It's always been my wish that you and your mother stay here where I can take care of you both"/"Stay where, in the servants' quarters?"/"In any quarters you like"/"Except the queen's"
• I wonder if Mordred is the one who feels this way or if he's just parroting back what Morgan has said
• "I was a boy when I met your mother"/"And my mother turned you into a man"/"A man named Merlyn turned me into a man"/"That's a new bit of palace gossip"/"No you idiot, he was my teacher"
• Obviously sarcastic Arthur is always a treat and specifically the facial expression and tone of no you idiot
• But just so curious about Morgan and Arthur because Arthur gets pissed at that whole turned into a man bit
• And he has been pretty chill with Mordred being terrible for this whole scene
• He's very much not comfortable with what Mordred is saying and this is the only moment where Mordred gets under his skin and like that is very interesting
• "In this place the law applies equally to everyone"/"Even the king and queen?"/"Especially the king and queen"
• You are literally watching the light bulb pop over Mordred's head and it's played perfectly
• Everyone in this cast is perfect
• The Seven Deadly Virtues has no right to be this funny
• "Making my Beelzebubble burst" is my favorite but really this entire song is great
• It's such a petulant performance and it's perfect
Act 2, Scene 2: The King's study
• Another amazing bit of scene change music
• The intimacy of them spending their evening playing chess together and talking
• Presumably this is just what they do on a lot of nights and I love it
• I feel like there's definitely potential in a their relationship through chess fic
• Someone please
• I firmly believe they are at like a full 50-50 split in terms of who wins
• "Are you really reading while you're chasing me around the board?"/"Sorry I didn't hear you, I was reading and chasing you around the board"
• And his okay in the middle like he knows he set himself up to get mocked
• Making fun of each other is one of my favorite love languages
• Also same structure as Arthur telling her it will seem that she's rooting for Lancelot to lose and she says that's because she is rooting for Lancelot to lose
• It's just a fun little dialouge thing that I enjoy Genny doing
• Makes her lines feel hers
• I love that Arthur has Merlyn's final warning on his mind so naturally he consults Genny
• And then it devolving into a philosophical discussion about what is and is not possible
• "I was 10,000th person to try, how do you explain that?"/"9,999 people loosened it"
• A perfect and funny line that becomes sweet and profound later on, I will never not love that
• "We have greatness in our grasp, humanity does, but for some reason every time we see it we assign the responsibility to some supernatural force. Or to god."
• You would think given the structure of the love triangle that Arthur would be set up to scoff at the idea that god has responsibility for human greatness in contrast to Lance being extremely devout
• And like I do think Arthur and Genny are actually on the same page but I enjoy that she gets to voice that thought
• This is the woman who first ran away and then threw prayer on top after as a little afterthought so yeah perhaps Genny is not the best catholic
• "Perhaps when he died, his soul transmogrified-"/"What did I just say?"
• Arthur immediately needling her and doing that stupid little hand motion on transmogrified
• They're adorable
• "I enjoy seeing you get riled up"
• This is what you say to a woman you're about to call your business partner? In that way?
• I don't know who to blame because I can't tell if the line or delivery is more of the culprit
• No it's the delivery, I have literally put in the audio as proof
• The audacity, I'm obsessed
• He's got it so bad
• Could've had this Genny
• Like Mr. Purity of Soul who thinks women can't possibly understand politics has absolutely never considered the concept of female pleasure, for sure has never heard of foreplay, and definitely believes the clit and g-spot are both myths
• I love Lance but proposition: there's no way that man is good in bed
• Everything else mean I've said about Lance has been out of love but I love Genny and she doesn't deserve mediocre dick
• And yet he's playing by Jordan Donica so it is also valid and understandable
• Sorry, I digress but gotta find the humor in the whole none of them get to be happy business
• But actually I really appreciate that even in this tragic narrative with big ideas and a lot of angst, they get to have fun and be fun
• Even as their relationship is about to hit its breaking point, you can still tell they're not just torturedly in love but they actually like each other so much
• "And while you're enjoying it, let me ask you this... how often do you write to her?"
• Genny is attempting to play it cool but boy is she not
• The little pause between often and write and then to her, oof
• It's so soft but like the hint is there
• The silence while Arthur makes his move on the board, ugh
• "I send a letter a week"/"Every week?"/"Yes"/"For how long?"/"Mordred's fourteen, he came to me when he was ten so four years"/"That's 208 letters"/"I have a responsibility there, I'm trying to do-"/"Do the chivalrous thing"/"Yes"
• It's so painful to hear their deliveries and realize they're having two separate conversations where they're both upset and they don't understand the other person is feeling the same
• Like Genny getting alarmed at 208 letters, Arthur getting frustrated and defensive about it and cutting Genny's last line off, and then Genny delivery of do the chivalrous thing like she's so tired
• It is so besides the point but how exactly was Arthur expecting the fucking soap opera and/or sitcom situation he's trying to create going
• Like his piece of shit kid, his ex who hates him, his wife that he loves whose feelings for him he doesn't have a handle on, and his bestie whose feelings for his wife Arthur definitely does know
• I know castles are very big but I don't think they're big enough to make that situation good for anyone
• "You've never asked me her name"/"Is it Morgan Le Fay?"/"How did you know that?"/"And she's a scientist"
• Genny has been holding this in for a whole year and she's finally ready to use it
• She says it like she's caught Arthur in some kind of lie which obviously she hasn't but I do wonder if she's had this conversation in her head enough times that she's already thinking the worst
• "He blames me for her condition. All the more reason why I want them both to be here at the castle. She needs care."
• That long pause before condition and the way he says it like maybe Arthur also blames himself
• And they're still playing chess throughout this whole thing as if they can pretend that this conversation isn't causing them both pain
• The sound of the pieces getting moved on the board while during the tense silences, yes
• And now we get to me being emotionally destroyed
• This scene is a roller coaster and the writing and acting of it is perfect in every way
• "We're more than king and queen, you and I. Don't you think?"
• He's so unsure, he's always so unsure it is torture
• The emphasis on you
• But also he does in some way recognize that she's upset about Morgan and he gets so close but spectacularly fails
• Genny is so hopeful on the "Yes, yes I do"
• Him stammering out and Genny trying one more yes to get him to come up with something
• And then that something is business partners
• In my brain I am screaming
• I have done nothing but make fun of Arthur for business partners (and friends) since I first saw this show and I will continue to do it now
• However I do think that for him, in the context of his experience being thrust into royalty, he is actually expressing a very romantic sentiment
• He meets Genny and tells her about Camelot and she doesn't think she's worthy of that
• But here he's affirming that she is, that she's his partner in this and he recognizes her worth
• They talk in the second scene and she mentions that as a princess she doesn't have friends
• And here he's telling her that they are friends, that she isn't alone
• And we see how uncomfortable Arthur is being treated as the king
• And he's trying to tell Genny that he cares for her as a person and not just the queen he traded for in a treaty
• He wants her to see him that way because if she sees him as just Arthur and not the king, then maybe he can tell her how he feels
• But also maybe it you are a man and your confession of love to a woman contains the words "I know this is an unusual thing for a man to say about a woman but" you have turned down the wrong path
• "Yes. Friends. And business partners"
• Her delivery is so ice cold, it's perfect
• The fact that she says this and even Arthur picks up on her tone and knows he fucked up
• Arthur trying to fix things and being interrupted
• His frustration with himself is so heartbreaking
• I am still screaming in my brain just louder now
• Pelli is great but also he is the cause of so many of Arthur and Genny's resentments and miscommunications, the man's a magnet for drama
• He's so funny in this scene trying to complain to Arthur and Arthur already knowing all of Mordred's bullshit
• And yelling dammit so many times in the most perfect way like me with every person who has ever annoyed me
• "Because England doesn't have a law against limericks"
• The fact that even though they're in the middle of this weird emotional mess, Arthur looks to Genny when he's talking about how Pelli's question is complicated
• His thinking buddy
• And business partner
• Also the idea that Arthur is so chill with the fact that he doesn't have the answer, that he's laying groundwork for future progress instead of assuming it will be accomplished by him
• Which is just inherently a concept I think I struggle with, that the world will not change in all the ways it should in my lifetime but the work now still has to be done
• So I like to see it
• Not going to write out another good Sorkin speech about ideas but I love this one too rest assured
• And we've had a nice little break, now we're back to chess and Arthur trying to force out something coherent and me screaming in my brain again
• I still can't get over the way they're still playing chess I'm sorry
• Genny saying "you're in check" with a different delivery every time to convey her emotional state
• The range
• Arthur just trying so hard to come up with anything again, I am personally suffering
• "What I feel-"/"I thought it was right on the money"/"Oh you do?"
• Then I think he says "oh okay" but I don't even know
• They were so close this is the worst
• Still chess
• "Do you regret being born a princess?"/"I'm confident that most people would gladly trade their problems for mine"/"But you're not talking to them right now"
• Firstly the show does an amazing job recontexualizing What Do the Simple Folk Do and everything around it so A+ for that
• But also Arthur is so empathetic in this moment
• "I know you're sad sometimes. That you miss whatever life you were searching for the night you ran from the carriage. The simple joys of maidenhood you called it. You do a good job of hiding it from the court but when you feel sad you-"/"can talk to my business partner?"/"Well I think I might be good at cheering you up"
• The delivery is so sincere
• He sees her pain and he cares so much
• He feels responsible for the life that she missed out on by marrying him
• And he wants to help
• In many ways, he is terrible at expressing his feelings but again in some small respects, he does absolutely knock it out of the park
• Even if Genny can't see it
• "If there was a tournament for cheering you up, I think I'd win"/"Oh as long as there wasn't a bird nearby"/"It wasn't just any bird, it was a white tailed eagle both times"
• The way they move from emotional conversations and annoyed miscommunications back to humor with such ease
• Arthur's bird obsession continues to be one of the best bits of characterization ever
• Genny making fun of Arthur's various words for peasants
• I love What Do the Simple Folk Do so much
• It's just perfectly constructed and the rhymes are pretty genius
• I love every single lyric
• And I love that this song gives Arthur and Genny a chance to be charming and reconnect after the second half of act 1 and the beginning of act 2 were so focused on Genny and Lance
• And then this scene has so much going on that it reminds you why they're the couple of the show
• I didn't need reminding because I'm trash for them but other people might
• All of the little jokes between the lyrics are so funny
• The delivery of "the very last thing you should have is encouragement" is so much funnier than on the cast recording
• Like what is this? So charming
• "My father used to say I sang like an angel who'd been blessed with a particularly pretty singing voice"
• I'm so glad this is at least on the cast recording
• She plays it so straight, it's so good
• This may be my favorite of the songs
• And the dance, they're so cute, the squeeling kills me
• I can't adequately express how much I need to find a bootleg so I can witness this again, the whole scene really but mostly this
• I cannot handle the way they say "Genny"/"Your Majesty"
• Fuuuuck
• The groan in the audience at "a letter from my mother", the pure expression of fuck Mordred
• "He's been waiting a long time."/"Yes"/"My mother was his first, you know"/"I had that sense, yes"/"They say you never fully get over your first love"
• Genny hates Mordred so much and she's right
• He's hitting her exactly where it hurts but Arthur can't even tell
• Also fascinating that Mordred can actually see the dynamic between Genny and Arthur and Lance so much more clearly than the people involved
• "You think you might possibly be spending the night?"
• Like her deliveries were getting more panicked but then this one
• Like she can't even believe what she's hearing and he doesn't even get it
• The long silence after Mordred says Lance has the queen's protection detail
• As people make mmms in the audience
• And then their last little exchange
• Ouch
• Genny telling Arthur what she herself actually needs to be told and Arthur having no clue
• "His queen's in danger"
• Mordred is the absolute worst and it's perfect
• The reprise of the Simple Joys of Maidenhood, so sad and I can't handle it
• I think this is her moment of just fully sitting in the idea that her husband doesn't love her and sees her so completely separate from that that he doesn't even understand why she's so upset to see him dash away overnight to see another woman
• And that he therefore doesn't and won't love her in the way she's singing about
• And thinking that she has the knight pining for her but it isn't enough and sets up her trying to make it enough
• She's grown so much since she first sang the song but she still can't fill the void of wanting this kind of love
• But also knowing that kind of love isn't enough
• I love her
Act 2, Scene 3: The home of Morgan Le Fey/Guenevere's Chamber/ Castle corridor - on that evening
• The into music to Morgan is gorgeous, perhaps my favorite
• It's hard to introduce an important character this late into the show and make them so memorable, even if they've been hanging over the narrative for a while now
• And still have them knock it out of the park but once again, this show is perfectly cast
• The tension of this whole scene is everything
• Morgan's laugh and then "Jesus christ it's the king of England"
• Immediately sets her up perfectly
• And we get something totally different out of Arthur
• I love their dialouge which I am once again trying not to just fully write out, I love their chemistry, I love how quickly their friendliness breaks down
• He does sound genuinely happy to see her at the beginning but as soon as he asks if she's feeling well, they start to cool
• I can't even pick specific lines because everything is such a vibe
• You feel the history and complication and the years apart where everything has changed for both of them and the way that she's the one person who knew him as just Arthur
• "I know exactly who you are"
• Like of course this one was gonna have a line reading that lends itself to multiple things but that's always good and I like it
• Genny ranting to Lance about the number of letters Arthur wrote to Morgan
• She finally gets to be pissed and Phillipa Soo plays it so well
• "Don't review my arithmetic in your head, it's 208"
• Even at her most angry, she still must make sure Lance knows she's right, very relatable
• "I questioned the king, we've all questioned the king"
• This adaptation has built in the knights discontent so well that it's believable that they've just been growing more resentful over time
• "Because one cannot legislate goodness Pellinore, which at the end of the day, is the mission of the round table"/"And what say you Sagramore?"/"Well tell me, when we're all equal will peasants live like knights or will knights live like peasants?"
• Their entire speech is amazing
• The knights growing angrier as they realize they're all on the same page
• The way that it all fits seamlessly into the story we see on the stage but there's also no denying it's about the time we're living in right now
• But again, not in a way where it feels out of nowhere or too heavy handed
• "I throw away the letters, I give away the money"
• I love the way she delivers her lines so dismissively
• I wonder how much of it is her feelings and how much of it is trying to hurt Arthur as much as he's hurt her
• "That part gets left out of the legend" I think is the first moment where Arthur gets under Morgan's skin just a bit
• Like I'm not sure what she wants/wanted from Arthur but maybe it was just that she doesn't like being erased from the story
• "What wife could possibly object?"
• I love her bitterness mounting leading up to this line and actually hearing her call herself Arthur's wife which is I don't think is something she does before
• "I admire the king's commitment to doing the right thing no matter what. That's what a man does, and god knows it should be what a king does."
• I love watching Genny justify her anger because on one level she knows it isn't fair to be angry
• That she really does admire Arthur's goodness and believes he's doing the right thing
• That it's not that he's going to see Morgan, that he wants to bring her to the castle, it's about his actions with Genny
• Or I suppose the lack of consideration of her feelings in maybe the most hurtful way where there was nothing deliberate, it just didn't even occur to him
• She's so hurt
• Everyone in this scene gets to be extremely mad and I love it
• "When he ran out of here, he didn't think it would trouble me at all. He didn't think the letters would mean anything to me. Or staying overnight. Mordred said his mother was his first true love. Business partner. He said it right in front of me as if I wouldn't mind"/"Do you?"/"No, of course not. It's just that it was the first time that it's been demonstrated to me that-"/"Your husband doesn't think of you as his wife"/"Yes"
• Everything is on her face and in her voice
• She's so hurt, so angry, so tired of not being loved
• And when she says of course it doesn't bother her, when she pulls back her feelings in front of Lance
• And her delivery of yes like something clicks in her brain, probably their entire relationship is flashing in her brain and she's building up evidence that it's true
• Lance has articulated exactly what she didn't know she was feeling
• And the music under it underscores each emotion perfectly
• Again Phillipa Soo is just emotionally devastating in this scene
• But also gotta go back to "Your husband doesn't think of you as his wife"
• Like right now I'm just thinking back to Arthur referring to Genny as French to Lance when they first meet and again when he asks her to tell Lance he's being invested
• While Genny in that scene and in the first scene of act 2 keeps referring to her country as England while Lance claims her as French like him
• I wonder if that distinction is one of the things that feeds into her (and Lance?) feeling like Arthur doesn't think of her as his wife
• That she's trying to keep proclaiming her loyalty and he keeps putting a border between them
• At least in her point of view
• While he's as always trying to show her that he sees and respects her as an autonomous individual and not a thing he owns
• Am I reading too far into this? Probably
• (You're not my homeland anymore, so what am I defending now - honestly that it took me this long to make a Taylor Swift reference is a marvel)
• Anyway back to this tremendous scene
• Part of me does wonder if Lance really doesn't know how Arthur feels or if he's in denial because it's easier for him if Arthur doesn't think of Genny as his wife
• Like he does make a point to tell Arthur in the last scene that he and Genny aren't together
• He's gotta realize in this scene how Genny feels about Arthur but curious about the other way around
• Or ya know, maybe he doesn't, maybe he's just as emotionally inept as everyone else in this show
• Don't really have a point, it's just an interesting thought
• How do so many versions cut Fie on Goodness?
• Like not only is it an amazing song but also it's sort of the whole damn point
• If you cut it, the ideals of Camelot are barely even a plot, it's all love triangle
• Also just want to take a moment to appreciate how gross the lyrics to this one are
• This is for sure my favorite sequence
• The intro speech to the song is perfect
• Them just getting worked up about how England is special, it is better, that they're the ones who should be listened to
• "Don't dare question our loyalty to the king"/"A king who encourages debate"
• Again I just love the knights' conflicted feelings about Arthur
• So it's easiest to shift all the blame to Genny and Lance
• This song is so good, this cast is so good
• "That day that I became king, my cousin gave me his tutor, a man named Merlyn. And Merlyn spoke to me of a great cause that I could lead. But I would have to stay unmarried until a young princess in France came of age"/"And you left me unmarriable, a woman with a child"/"I didn't know about the child until he came and introduced himself"/"You raise your voice to me? Have I displeased you your majesty?"/"Stop calling me that"/"I know all about the French princess-"/"The queen"/"and the grand cause-"/"great cause"/"I don't give a damn"
• This is a stupid amount of text that I've typed out but I love their back and forth here
• Arthur trying to justify himself and not wanting to take responsibility and them both getting angry at each other
• Morgan and her relationship with Arthur have been changed pretty drastically to the point that she's not even the same character and I like it and her so much
• I do wonder what the intent was here because I feel like you could read a lot of different things into their dynamic
• And to what that means about Arthur
• I mean I get the sense that she's maybe always been maybe a bit of an outsider, maybe always was a little more world-weary (or maybe not, maybe getting left pregnant while he became king hardened her)
• And maybe their power dynamic has been completely flipped but also maybe Arthur still has a hard time not letting it flip back
• Because like there's no doubt for me that for whatever reason, she was the one holding the cards originally and he doesn't know how to deal with her now
• Like I don't know if she's older or Arthur was always bad at love so she would have just been the more confident person but there's something there
• She obviously has a completely different point of view than anyone else in the show which I love
• And she gets under Arthur's skin so easily
• I guess because she's the one casuality of his great cause, the one wrong he can't right
• Also "stop calling me that" is so petulant teen
• And he was that when he knew her so of course it comes out
• "You seem quick to betray the king"/"I would die before I betrayed King Arthur"/"Yet here you are"/"I can't rise above being a man, a human man. I can't transcend it no matter how hard I try"
• My favorite Lance line
• Ugh it's perfect
• He's so tortured and so good at conveying that in his delivery
• He's getting some character growth
• Genny being both not wrong but also putting it on him so she doesn't have to think about her own behavior
• "My duty is to god, King Arthur, and the round table. I can best serve all three with my absence. It's a small price for one person to pay for a greater good"
• Ooh the self-loathing hits so good
• And Genny panicking because she's about to get left for the second time tonight
• The playing of If Ever I Would Leave You
• Because he is, or he's at least trying to
• To do the right thing
• Genny and Lance speaking French together, always good even thought I can't understand shit
• "No more talking"
• And the bed just being pulled out of the scene
• I just love how the song is interspersed with these scenes, this sequence is truly brilliant and the energy of it in the theater is truly unmatched
• "All the letters that followed-"/"All the letters that followed offered me room and board along with the cash. Imagine how moved I was by the chivalry"
• Ah mocking chivalry, a family pastime
• Again, I just love the way she goes in on Arthur's attempts to do the right thing over and over
• And again I don't know if it's because he wouldn't give her what she actually wanted or pure vengence
• "Guilty and alive once more" is probably my favorite line from the song
• "Let me ask you this question and I'm entitled to the truth. If there hadn't been a cause, a great case, would you have married me? No."/"I was fifteen years old that night and the next day I was king. I was anointed by the archbishop of Canterbury in York and those men think they put me in direct contact with the divine. There was a cause."
• Clearly in her mind he was never going to marry her but we know from Pelli that when he met Arthur when he was already king, he was still very much in love with Morgan
• More than 10 years (plus then a year that's passed in story) before this could be lots of different amounts of time but it could have been up to a few years into Arthur being king which is a long while
• So the answer was probably yes
• But he doesn't say any of that because his feelings don't matter, he's too focused on justifying his cause, that it was important enough to make up for her life
• And ya know Camelot is what's important now, Camelot is what he and Genny have devoted their lives to, he can't fail
• This is the scene where I just conspiracy board Genny and Arthur's relationship
• This is fine, I'm normal about this show, that's why I wrote all of this
• Either way I think it must really bother Athur that Morgan might think he's not a good man
• We saw it with Genny and the courtesans thing too
• Like obviously part of that was being in love with her but also I think it fucks with his self-image as a person who does the right thing which is his entire life
• And Morgan's the biggest crack in that in his mind which is why he gets angry pretty much constantly in this scene
• At least that's my theory
• I love that we get see him cracking a bit under the strain of being good and trying to rise above being a human being just like everyone else in this scene
• He's got a lot more moral fortitude than the rest of the characters so it just manifests as him getting to be angry and express it to another person for once but still
• He makes excuses, he gets mad, he won't accept that Morgan's version of events is also true and he can't force her to be okay with it
• I don't know, there's something nice about narrative not saying that making the choices of the knights or Genny and Lance is inevitable, Arthur does make the right choices but he still isn't perfect here
• "And I won't live in a spare room in a castle and be the used and discarded former mistress of a king... but I will be the mother of one"
• So like how much of Mordred's plans are Mordred and how much is Morgan?
• And you know used and discarded former mistress of a king is killing Arthur
• "And he didn't"/"What?"/"Put you in direct contact with the divine"/"That is made clear to me every day"
• Morgan did a good job of pretending indifference at the beginning but the more she lays into Arthur, the more hostile things get between them, it's so clear that if the opposite of love is indifference then they haven't managed to get over loving each other
• It's just soured and rotted but won't die
• More so for Morgan because she paid the price, she couldn't move on in the way he could
• "And I wouldn't want to see your face when you realize it didn't make a difference. There'll be greed and injustice and hate and horror. You can change the stuff but people stay exactly the same. No one whose opponent was human nature has ever won a fight. Human nature responds to-"/"Inspiration"/"Fear. And that's it"
• It's so cruel but also a great illustration of the ways that they're fundamental opposites
• "I don't forget anything"
• Another extremely loaded line delivery
• (Don't make an All Too Well reference, don't make an All Too Well reference, don't)
• The panic and realization of "he's not stupid" and the music that builds to it and Morgan's laugh ugh perfect
• The intro music to I Loved You Once in Silence is gorgeous
• Lance and Genny in white feeling guilty as hell is a good visual
• So much regret
• Just instantly
• I feel like the moment they've actually acted on their feelings, they know that it's not only a mistake but also that their feelings aren't actually what they thought
• Well maybe Lance doesn't quite have it yet in this scene but he gets there
• Not to repeat what I said about the first scene in act 2 but
• My take is that they intentionally deepened Arthur and Genny's relationship and Lance's character but not Lance and Genny's relationship
• They intentionally left it shallow
• That these are two people who are missing something and the easiest way for them to get that is to frame what they have as love
• I mean for Genny it's sort of obvious, she's married to a man she's in love with but that she thinks doesn't love her
• Lance makes her feel certain about his feelings for her and that's validating
• But Lance, I feel like I have thoughts but I'm not sure
• Lance has never been forced to reckon with temptation before
• And instead of facing that in himself
• He just makes Genny part of the list of things that define him
• A goddess on earth and a god above
• Along with the table
• And he can worship them all to avoid having to figure out who he actually is
• It's not him admitting he has a human weakness, it's a grand tragic love story that he can suffer for
• And suffering, well that's what lets him cope with whatever about himself he feels is so terrible that he needs to punish himself for it
• He's so terrified to look inward, so afraid of something in himself that he just finds his identity in other people and institutions
• And he can't hide behind that anymore because he's betrayed it all, every single thing
• I feel like this makes it sound like I don't like Lance and I very much do
• He's just particularly flawed because he's the only one who doesn't start the show knowing that about himself
• They all make choices out of self-loathing and fear of unworthiness but I do think Lance thinks consciously he's above that for most of the show even if subconsciously he knows he isn't
• He's the only one of the main three to not really finish his character journey within the confines of this narrative
• Arguably he only starts right now and finally realizes he's not the man he thought he was
• Again fic potential somone???
• Well that was a tangent
• Jordan Donica's performance of I Loved You Once in Silence is so heartbreaking
• "Lance I made a mistake. I'm sorry but you're a good man and I should have been nicer to you."
• I love that, I love that she takes her responsibility (even if she's already trying to cover up what happened)
• But also it's just the clearst indication that acting on her feelings killed them
• She doesn't need to push Lance away anymore to stop herself from doing anything
• I love that Lance tries to surrender peacefully
• He's willing to take responsibility not for his noble suffering anymore but because he is a good man and he knows he's done what he's been accused of
• And he only attacks because he has to
• Mordred's evil laugh
• Lance being slightly disheveled and grabbing Mordred's sword to fight off the guards and escape
• I don't have any kind of intellectual take, this is just a personal problem for me
• My jaw was on the floor when Lance started yelling back about coming for her if he survives
• Such a tense ramp up into Guenevere
Act 2, Scene 4: The trial/The Battle
• Guenevere has such amazing lyrics
• The entire "more than love met its doom"/"came the sundown of a dream" verse destroys me
• And I love every word of added dialouge, so correct to put it on the cast recording
• I feel I must explain my love for the staging of this song some more because it is so simple and I understand that some people are not into it but I so much am
• I love the way they close off the back of the stage for I think the only time in the whole show and it becomes claustrophobic all of the sudden
• Now Arthur is stuck in this little box in front of the audience while everything falls apart for him and that's what you have to look at so there's no getting away from how devastating it is
• We just get some full force Andrew Burnap acting and I love it, I think by now it should be clear that I would
• In other versions that I've seen, there's a lot more happening and we see Genny
• And we see Arthur see her tied to the stake and Lancelot show up to rescue her
• Which I do like in theory
• But we don't really see Genny have any actual role or even seeming to have any particular feelings about what she's done or what's about to happen
• Like she's about to die and I've yet to see a version where I have any idea if she's got a single emotion about that
• Despite the name of the song, I think this show decided this scene isn't about Genny, it's about Arthur
• It's about the consequences of his laws
• It's about the beginning of his new war
• Arthur screaming "Pelli I know" like we see him start to crack
• Oh to know who told Arthur and how he took it
• "Well do something"/"She's under arrest. She's been accused of treason"/"Arthur I understand that you're angry but"/"She's been accused of breaking the law. She has to be judged"
• The delivery of that last line, ugh
• He keeps it impersonal, it isn't about what she did to him or his pain, it's about the law
• The law they lovingly crafted together
• "What a magnificent dilemma: let her die and you're a monster, let her live and you're a fraud. Which will it be? Do you kill the queen or the law?"
• Fuck
• The delivery is so good
• Mordred is having the time of his life shrieking about Arthur's pain
• The killing the queen or the law bit seems to be mostly unchanged and it's maybe the best single line from the original book
• Although it went from kill the queen and your life is over to you're a monster
• Mordred has to know Arthur is in love with Genny, right?
• Maybe he just can't imagine Arthur could love a person more than he loves his ideals which I guess would make sense given Morgan and Arthur's relationship
• Arthur drawing his sword on Mordred!!!
• "Ooh careful your majesty, you wouldn't want to be barbaric"
• The fact that Mordred thinks that's going to work, that he can continue to poke at Arthur and he won't respond, he really does believe in Arthur's goodness doesn't he?
• "You are exiled from this court. Return and I will show you what barbaric looks like"
• Arthur screaming at Mordred with his hand around his throat is so intense
• It's so good
• Another gasp out loud in the theater moment
• Arthur is fully unraveling and I'm obsessed
• "I know my way out"
• It's such a teenage delivery and like Mordred is just a kid who feels abandoned by his father
• And as much as this is a tragedy for the three main characters, it's no less a tragedy for Mordred
• Aging down Mordred, also a great choice
• And again, just another stellar performance
• Every single person in this cast just knocked it out of the park in a way I never could have anticipated
• "Arthur please, I'm an old man and I know I'm ridiculous but for the love of god, it's Genny. She made a mistake, she knows that."
• I love that Pelli loves her too
• That he isn't judging her
• "She broke the law Pellinore. A law signed by the king. So say the people"
• He starts trying to be calm but then the fact that it's his law brings up the anger and then he breaks on so say the people
• He's written his own destruction
• And empowered others to take the decision out of his hands
• I love the dialouge in this scene so damn much
• "Neither you nor I nor god himself can stop this terrible thing that's been put in motion"/"What are you waiting for?"/"I'm waiting for what's inevitably coming next"
• The delivery of coming next...
• Like obviously he wants Lance to save Genny but he knows that no matter what
• No matter if she lives or dies, peace is over and the round table has been destroyed
• And he needs to prepare
• Also the way he frames what's happening
• It's not what Genny and Lance or even Mordred caused
• It's just what's been set into motion by all these tiny and giant choices throughout the show that have bubbled over into the death of Camelot
• "That's Lancelot du Lac out there and he's brought a battalion. Double the guard, triple the guard, those guards are going to die tonight"
• How many times can I just copy a bunch of text and write the delivery
• Because yup
• The lack of hope from Arthur is chilling
• Arthur getting dragged back into the war he worked so hard to end
• Just every line delivery in this scene is perfect
• Every lyric of the song
• Every acting choice
• And I love to see it visually
• Preparing for war isn't an exciting spectacle, it's tragic
Act 2, Scene 5: Outside Joyous Gard - on the eve of war
• The way they fade in on the eve of war just broke my heart every time
• I would love to know how much communication there was between Arthur and Lance and how
• Like how much of a role did Arthur play in the whole Genny not getting burned business?
• And the fact that his first question is whether they've been injured
• Even after everything, he's a good man who cares
• And Genny and Lance too, being willing to come back and die
• They're all good people who made mistakes but still good people
• "I assure you, if I thought it would end all this, I would light the fire myself"
• Absolutely brutal but like after he lays out all the death and rebellion that have already happened I guess brutal is fair
• Ya know, if I thought he meant it even a little
• "Lance, come morning some of your countrymen are going to be at the end of my sword. It's not personal, it's just my job. Stay safe Lance."/"I can't do that. And neither can you. Godspeed your majesty."
• I just love the idea of Lance and Arthur as these two people who love each other spearheading this war neither of them believe in
• It's so tragic
• Their goodbye is so understated which for Lance is like truly a great bit of contrast
• They've had enough big declarations, these few sentences just distill everything perfectly
• And then we come to Genny and Arthur, fuck fuck fuck
• The first time I saw this I spent like all of intermission and act 2 with a loop in my brain of but they love each other, right?
• I am unrepentant trash for them in this version as though that wasn't abundantly clear
• And Aaron Sorkin delivered for me so hard in this scene
• "Please let me die, Arthur"
• The pause before his name
• And now we get to the part where I start to get like teary-eyed in the theater
• "Two very powerful men did this to you... not Mordred and Lance, your father and me"
• That long pause before and me
• I love his whole speech, I almost typed it all out
• And they allow so much silence during it
• And the way he's like trying to hold it together but he can't by the end
• "You were treated like a queen but you were my hostage Genny, what the hell did we think was going to happen?"
• That he recognizes and actually admits the ways that his choices have harmed Genny, the unfairness in the entire situation he's put her through
• That he can see even through his own hurt and the enormity of what has been set into motion, his own responsibility for what's happened
• Like he's not right but he's also not wrong
• "And for it's worth, I've been in love with you this whole time"
• Not even looking at her so we have to see it instead ugh
• And then watch that long silence while Genny just like rearranges her entire view of their relationship
• "For what it's worth? Did you just say for what it's worth?"/"Well I thought maybe you'd like to know that. But I wasn't sure."
• Just smashing my heart into tiny little pieces
• After everything they've been to each other, after all they built together, he still doesn't even know if his feelings will matter to her
• While Genny is getting ready to lose her mind after for what it's worth
• They're so absolutely emotionally inept
• "You weren't sure? Why didn't you ever tell me before?"/"It doesn't matter"/"Why?"/"How could I? I'm the king of England. You'd have been forced to pretend you felt the same way"
• Again they are delivering lines in a way that is continuing to smash the little pieces of my heart into complete dust
• Like Arthur is again not wrong but not right
• His life is so lonely because of this crown he didn't want and his desire to actually be responsible with that power
• And even now he tries to get out of explaining that to her
• I love him so much is the problem
• And then her mmm like all the pieces are coming together in her brain that they've both been suffering for nothing and she is pissed
• I love her so much which is also the problem
• Incidentally, both of these things are also their problem so very relatable
• "Out of curiousity, if I had told you, what would you have said?"/"That I loved you from the moment I saw you, from the moment you spoke, from the moment you sang me that stupid song about the weather"/"It's not about the weather it's a metaphor"/"I know it's a metaphor"
• The way Genny overlaps him asking, she can't even wait for him to finish
• The way she says stupid song
• The way that she's like, I did fall in love with you over that song but also I still hate it and think it's dumb
• She says it with such contempt
• Icon
• Even standing before the wreckage of their lives, they still can't stop bickering about the song, I'm obsessed
• "I prayed every night that one day you would see me the way I saw you. And then you told me I was your business partner. Yes I was and I am in love with you"/"Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse"
• She prayed every night???
• For two years???
• That he would return her feelings???
• Fuck
• Like I don't know if I can convey how much them being in love with each other and thinking it's unrequited for two whole years ping pongs around my brain and just lights up all the synapses
• "Do you really think 10,000 people loosened that sword for me?"/"I do"/"So do I. That's a nice thought isn't it?"
• It is a nice thought
• I love the philosophy of this show, I love that there's no convoluted Arthur is actually the son of the last king so he was destined to be special
• These are just two people who though birth or circumstance ended up in this position of power and chose to do good with it
• Genny begging for just a little more time like the only reason I kept anything together was being in a theater but if feel confident that if I ever get my hands on footage of this show, I would have already been sobbing by this point
• "They won't let me let Lance save you twice so you have to go Princess Guenevere"
• Hearing him call her by her name is so deeply distressing
• Literally not once before in the show does it happen and it hurts
• And then they're playing Before I Gaze at You Again what an amazing choice
• Turning a love song she sang about Lance into this romantic moment for her and Arthur because theirs was the love story the whole time like brilliant
• That they chose the show's first love song and brought it back for Genny and Arthur being unable to leave each other without that hug and that kiss
• Like this song that is originally about the pain of unfulfilled love for the wrong person and then flipping it to the pain of fulfilled love with the right one
• I am so not okay
• Also people did very loudly applaud at closing when they kissed and I was so glad because truly in my head I was doing it every time
• "I love you"/"I love you too"/"God save the king"
• I mean these are some good last words to say to each other, I'll give them that
• The thing about the original version of the musical is that the ending was already a perfect concept
• Here it just feels more meaningful because they lay that groundwork about inspiring the next generation throughout
• Tom trying to con Arthur about his age is very funny
• This kid is so good and adorable
• "You're speaking to a king"/"I'm twelve years old"
• Like his comedic delivery, very impressive
• "And when did you decide upon this nonexistent career?"
• We get a solid 60 seconds of cynical Arthur and that's about it
• The entire concept of this kid being inspired by the stories of Camelot is just deeply moving and beautiful
• And just the entirety of Andrew Burnap's performance of that realization hitting Arthur
• I love a story that's about the power of stories
• People also applauded at the last show when Arthur says the stories were all true which I also just deeply love
• Arthur's I know exactly how you feel when Tom says he's not ready to be a knight and putting his arm around him, so cute
• "And you will return to your home alive"
• The way he says alive
• Like I think Arthur knows that he's not making it out of this
• Even if he would manage to survive the battle and Mordred, he knows his time is done
• But the the future is still there
• And there is about to be so much death
• Some of it from his sword or his orders
• And the rest of it of his men
• But at least this kid, he's going to live
• The reprise of Camelot... I just love it so much
• "I've won my battle, here's my victory"
• Not a new line but just such a gorgeous one
• The entire idea of the story of Camelot as a tragedy but a hopeful one just gets me
• It's such a beautiful conclusion that this version sets up so so well
• I love that we end on a speech again, just like act 1
• Also that last bit of music as they walk off, stunning
• I have attempted to track down as many older productions of this show as I can including the movie which was good but I am biased and I do sort of think Sorkin and Bartlett Sher and the actors and everyone else involved had the more interesting take on the themes and characters
• A Broadway musical is best when it has simple but impactful themes and big emotions
• And that's exactly what this version gave us
• The highest compliment I can give this show is that not only have I not stopped thinking about it, not only did I tell everyone I know to see it, not only did I want to see the show again (and again and...), but it also just made me feel inspired to see more theater in a way I haven't in a serious while
• I just love this show so much and I'm so glad there are some people here who can't get over it either
• This is what I have to offer, the longest possible unhinged rant and bad quality closing audio, that is all

princess tutu re-watch, episode 17
Evil Raven: where the FUCK is that heart, I'm so hangry right now
Rue: Uhhhh, Princess Tutu keeps interfering, and--
Evil Raven: DADDY DIDN'T RAISE NO FRIKKIN' WHINERS, GET OUT THERE AND BUST YOUR BUTT TO BRING ME MY DINNER
meanwhile, back at the ranch, Ahiru is internally googling "how do I deal with demonic possession?" and coming up with zero hits when she is interrupted by a dramatic dude on a bull. Somewhat surprisingly, the bull is not also a student.
OH SHIT IT'S THIS GUY HAHAHAHAHA
between his declaration that he is "a true prince" and his lackey fanning rose petals around him, he'd fit right in on Revolutionary Girl Utena
Femio (for that is indeed his name): I'm a real Don Juan! Time to up my game and speak mostly French in spite of my obviously Spanish theme!
gosh, Ahiru is spending a lot of time naked in this particular out-of-the-way fountain.
Ahiru tries to convince Rue not to be evil, but their tete-a-tete is interrupted by Femio dancing to "I'm Sexy And I Know It" while his lackey carries a boombox on his shoulder
Rue: Wow, I hate you, great job.
Femio: Ohohohoho, another conquest!
Femio invades the dance studio half-naked and demands a solo, lolololol, and does the Robot and the Electric Slide to demonstrate.
Femio: EYYYYYYYY, MACARENA! stikes a pose
Femio: Alas, I am too avant-garde for this studio--the price of following my HEART--
At the word "heart", Mytho wakes up from his coma enough to sign I LOVE YOU PLEASE SEND HELP before collapsing
everyone thinks Ahiru and Femio should date solely for the drama, lololol
Neko-sensei: Amazing technique, Mytho, but I'd prefer if you survived your next performance.
Evil Mytho drags Rue for offering to get a heart by herself
Rue: Trust me, I have just the sucker in mind
Fakir: WHO KEEPS VANDALIZING BOOKS IN THE LIBRARY?
creepy cryptid at the window: lolololol!
Uzura: surprise drum solo zura!
random megane guy from previous episodes: WILL YOU BE QUIET ALREADY?
(for better or worse, "love-love-zura" is one of the things that immediately comes to mind whenever I think of this show)
Rue's seduction attempt falls hilariously flat because Femio can't handle the concept of monogamy, lololol
Fakir (holding a squirming Uzura): WHO TAUGHT YOU THOSE WORDS, YOUNG LADY?… oh, no, is this Charon's payback for all the times I sassed him as a kid??
Forced to choose between Tutu and Kraehe, Femio.exe has stopped responding. He is trampled by the running of the bulls as Tutu and Kraehe gracefully leap to safety
Kraehe: you know what? Fuck it. vanishes in a flock of crows
Tutu: My work here is done. graceful curtsey
Fakir: where the hell did all these bulls come from?
Ahiru: Literally no idea!
Uzura: RIDE 'EM COWBOY ZURA! Fakir: Ignore her, she's just doing it for attention. I did the same thing when I was her age.
Ahiru re-enacts Mytho's message and Fakir.exe has stopped responding. The bulls shuffle ominously, sensing weakness.
Ahiru: Oh, did I forget to mention, it's from Mytho!
Fakir: Holy shit, do not scare me like that!! I thought I was going to have to deal with FEELINGS!
Mytho: Too bad you didn't have enough… animal magnetism to capture that guy's heart, Rue. *rimshot*
Drosselmeyer: OOOOOH, nice one! Hahahaha, you're so fucked!

This is a love letter to my favorite band..
I love 5SOS, and not just their music (tho that I very obvisoly love that). I'm just talking about their vibe. I love how (and I mean this is a sweet way) stupid they are together. They are still the same kids that preformed in front of 12 people. This band gave me the teenage life of obsessing over a rock band that I never thought I'd get. I run a blog over them and its just so surreal that people like @ilostyou make posts about swiftsos and that connection that this band made with so many of us (also y'all do check out her posts if your a swiftsos girlie - they are superior). It's so awe-spiring to watch my fic Can I Be Him which is inspired by these dumbasses get known cause to me its a secret I keep with myself about how many times I listened to Bleach at night tired as fuck and smiled because it was my band being there for me). I love watching their interviews and just laughing because no one hates 5SOS like 5SOS. I couldn't even tell the difference with they look like much less in their voices a few months prior but I really counted on them (CALM and 5SOS5 esipecally). They all just mean the world to me and its their jokes, the fact that their vocals (like Micheal vocal's holy shit sometimes I'm in awe of them - Luke obvosisly is so talented his vocal range is just amazing - Ash is just my personal favorite (no he's not)(I can't choose) and his voice makes a girls knees weak (his voice is what I imagine Percys voice to be like in Can I Be Him) - Calum fucking Hood sings some of my favorite songs - his voice Is just so comforting), their vibes (they are so comforting. I've never met them but I just know they are the sweetest (Ash in particular)(maybe I am an ash girlie)(the girl who used to listen to CAROSEUL and used to (without realizing) drum on her lap is very much an Ash girlie so maybe I am (the girl is me if that wasn't clear), and their love of dogs. Petunia and Duke - y'all hit different ("the fat one" SHES A BABY ASHTON) (petunia I'm talking about). Their Lyrics I never really process but when I do - I sit there in shock. Their creativity when it comes to Music videos too - shit man the fucking Old Me and No Shame videos took so much time to think I think it took like 8/9 time watching to get it. They are truly the most talented band I know and I adore them so much. Thanks Luke, Ash, Cal, Mikey - thanks for being the reason I smile on some days. I know I haven't been here for long but I'm here to stay (and that easy for me to say)(I HAD TO)

Okay, I think I can write about last night's Anthony Green interaction now.
It was amazing and I am still kind of reeling from it.
So, I went to see Saosin, which has been one of my favorite bands for nearly twenty years (holy shit, I'm old as fuck) by myself. Being in Philly, it was a home show, so Anthony's family was there. On the way in, I saw his kids playing in the gated parking lot. It was incredibly sweet. I got an amazing spot, which turned out to have a view of everything. I could see the stage, the backstage doors, the lobby doors, all of it. Shortly before the opener started, Anthony snuck out to check on the lobby and I told him to break a leg. He gave me a really genuine smile and said thank you.
I figured if that was my only interaction, I would be eternally happy and it would be the coolest night I could ask for.
Tumblr media
It got way better!
The show was unbelievable. I cannot even begin to express how good it was. I thought the highlight was going to be hearing some of my favorite songs-- songs that I never thought I would hear live again-- done by musicians who have grown and honed their talent over two decades. Then I thought maybe the best part would be Anthony's genuine and personal anecdotes and love for Philadelphia. I was wrong on both counts.
The best part of the show was, unquestionably, when Anthony's son, James, came out and played Weezer's Sweater Song on drums and the entire audience went completely wild. Every person in the room was scream-singing those lyrics like their lives depended on it. James killed it on the drums. He had it down. He is twelve and he had a whole venue chanting his name. It was awesome!
It is impossible to describe just how emotionally invested everyone in the audience was through the whole show. I can't think of another show I have been to that had so much love through the whole thing.
I got teary over the way that Anthony softly said "you made it" to the crowd surfers who had a rough time getting to the front.
Tumblr media
Okay. So. After the show:
I decided to stick around. I figured that I didn't have anywhere to be, and there were three other very committed fans who were also determined to meet the band, so it was worth it to brave being out to all hours on the street. Why not? (Okay, lots of reasons why not, but whatever).
We waited for a little more than two hours.
After a while, a crew member came over and said that the band had told him to give us their picks. It meant so much. I figured that was our cue and called an uber. ...
And then Anthony came out.
Now, to be fair, he came out because he needed to find a bathroom and the venue was closed. I think this just makes the fact that he stopped to talk with us even nicer.
I got the chance to thank him for being so incredibly kind to me about sixteen years ago when we first met. He gave me some advice about finding a creative community now that I have moved to Philly. I gave him a tip about dealing with allergies from one vocalist to another. We talked about how much it rocks to play music with your family. We complained to each other about an event that is happening later this month that we are both attending, and talked about how neither of us really want to go, but we're going to anyway.
It was a really nice conversation. He went above and beyond.
I was too happy to try to look cool, so here's me smiling a great, big, incredibly dopey smile while he looks like the fucking rock star that he is.

Ok quick Dunes Day update
...just kidding this got fucking long, so it's going under a cut
Got to the hotel a bit before 3, had to wait to check in, but that wasn't a big deal. Got over to The Rave and there was a line but it wasn't bad. I asked and it was not separated by VIP/non-VIP so I just sat down on the blacktop like everyone else and roasted for about two hours.
I had paid for parking and around 5 pm a guy came out and was like "Hey, if you're parked here, come get a pass or we'll tow you." So I had to go to my car, get my ticket, get a pass and he made me move my car so there would be more room. (Spoiler alert: when I left the lot wasn't even half full)
There was some back and forth with whether or not the VIP line was lining up at the front of the building, or if they would come and get us. They did come to get us a bit after 5:30 and then we went inside and lined up. I think I was about the 10th person in line. I shoulda known how bad it was gonna be when I was standing inside and it was just as hot as outside, just without the sun.
We finally get let into this smaller side bar and I was like oh ok, this is where the Q&A is, then we'll go into the larger room for the show. Then I realized the drum kits were set up there. No this was it. This tiny tiny space was it. Well fine ok. I had made friends with the two people behind me in line and they were super nice, and we got to talking to a couple in front of us as well. We quickly realized this show was basically a mini-Pride event 😄 it felt really cool to just be like "oh yea, I'm NB" and it was just... yea 🤷🏻‍♀️ no big deal!
The Q&A was fun. One of my line friends was like "What's your favorite horror movie?" And Frank was trying to take off his sweatshirt and he gets the mic and is like "just now when I was stuck in my sweatshirt" 🤣 Anthony talked about being 12 and huffing and accidentally burning down his friend's garage. At this point I now consider IASIP to be a documentary and Anthony was the inspiration for Charlie and/or Mac lol
Q&A ended, the assistant who was running it handed out the waters on stage that the guys didn't take and I got Tucker's extra La Croix. It was grapefruit 😄
Pinkshift came out and absolutely ripped it the fuck up, like holy shit they were great. Highly recommend checking them out! A person did pass out a little bit back from me, and the band was good about stopping right away and everyone was calling for security, but it felt like it took forever to get anyone to come around for them and get them off the floor. It was so fucking hot, like it was insane. I'm surprised more people didn't pass out honestly.
Then Dunes came on and it was fucking rad. Anthony was giving high fives and like taking peoples' hands and he totally held my hand for a moment, a long moment! And it was magical 😄 They fucking tore it up, and at the end of the first song I made eye contact with Travis and was like "🤘🏻 yea!" And he grinned back, it was great!
That reminds me, I think Coheed is coming to the Sylvee again for the 100th time, maybe I'll go because I'm done with the Rave I think.
The crowd was nuts, they were pushing really bad from the back and I eventually had to dip out. I was afraid I was gonna pass out if I stayed in there with how hot it was plus all the pushing. Would have been good if there was any sort of security keeping people back, but again, they were MIA. So I went around to the bar off to the side to get a water and there was a giant industrial fan blowing. The vibe was so much more chill and I was like "am I old? Is this it?" But honestly I didn't care. I leisurely went to the bathroom, grabbed merch, and just enjoyed the music.
I'm pretty sure this means I'm old 😅 oh well, I don't mind!
I left right at the end and grabbed a brat from a street vendor. It was amazing and honestly I needed it so bad. I had a water in my car so I slammed that as well. It sucks when you go to shows alone and you can't pop around the corner to McDonalds while you wait to get some fries and a soda and take a pee break. Like you just have to wait and wait and wait and hope someone around you is chill to hold your spot. It's sorta a bummer honestly.
Getting back to the hotel was a bit of a headache, mainly because of traffic from the Brewer game letting out. But as soon as I got back I got into my room, got a shower, and now I'm in bed. I have a full day planned for tomorrow, including stopping at Target, stopping at the running store, finding a post office, and getting a manicure. And then going home and getting prepared for the rest of my week.
Ok that was a lot longer than I originally intended, but oh well

But I love this band so fucking much 😩

Hey. You. Have a sneak-peek at the upcoming chapter of the Idol!AU
~
It was a week before the Norrisville High Talent-athon, and he and Howard knew with absolute certainty that 30StM had the first place spot in the bag. Call it what you will—misplaced confidence, overzealous overestimation, shoobish narcissism, or a serious case of teenage hubris—but it was the truth! The whole, gospel-worthy truth. There was just something about the two best friends that separated them from the rest of the clowns and baton twirlers and accordian players that signed up for the talent show. Something major league that no one else had, that they tried so hard to master while Randy and Howard had it on lock since day one. Whatever it was, that special something was their ticket to victory. The coveted Carp-dallion and all its bragging rights for the rest of the school year belonged to them and only them. They were going to bring the house down and leave behind their status as faceless freshmen with nothing at their disposal but their good looks, killer vocals, and Bruce-tacular instrumental work.
And boss-ass equipment. Especially the boss-ass equipment.
“Levander has the best rock gear!”
They were at their usual hangout (AKA, the janitor’s closet closest to their lockers), practically drooling over the industry-grade amps, the top-of-line hybrid electronic/acoustic drum set, and the not-yet-on-the-market keytar Levander managed to nab for 30StM the day before. Had it been anybody else, it would’ve taken an honest-to-god miracle for them to score something this expensive and exclusive. But Levander? All he had to do to get them was ask his dad, who happily complied in the name of supporting young indie artists. Randy knew there must’ve been a lot of perks when your family owned the biggest record label in North America, but he wasn’t expecting said perks to transfer over to the friends of the kid from said family.
“Dude, it’s the straight-up cheese,” Howard called out from his perch atop the stool behind the drum set. “Letting him in the band is probably the smartest thing we’ve ever done!”
As if on cue—with as much grace as a bull in one of those mega-fancy stores that sold the most ornate and fragile-looking decor pieces ever created—Levander came barrelling in, his signature guitar in hand. He greeted the two with a wide grin and the single most horrendous guitar riff either of them have ever heard before in the entirety of their lives. Randy and Howard almost immediately slammed their hands over their ears, cringing so hard that the flinch their bodies did looked more like a violent shudder than a startled jump.
“HOLY SHIT, HE’S TERRIBLE,” Howard called out, his voice barely registering.
Randy hissed at an especially ear-piercing chord. “DUDE, ARE GUITARS EVEN ABLE TO MAKE THAT KIND OF NOISE?”
“I DUNNO, CUNNINGHAM!” The shorter of the two shrugged helplessly. “BUT I THINK WE JUST MADE THE MOST STUPIDEST MISTAKE EVER.”
“YOU THINK?!”
They glanced back at Levander, who was pretty much dead to the world. Eyes shut tight, humming and scatting along to some pseudo-song only he knew how to play. His guitar, the poor thing, cried out like nails on a chalkboard or a cat screeching bloody murder.
“WE GOTTA KICK HIM OUTTA THE BAND!” Howard yelled, half annoyed and half desperate. “OR ELSE HE’S GONNA GANK OUR CHEESE WITH HIS OWN SHIT-ASS PERFORMANCE.”
The black-haired teen vigorously nodded along. “RIGHT THERE WITH YA! JUST ONE PROBLEM—IF WE KICK HIM OUT, HE’LL TAKE ALL OF HIS PRIMO EQUIPMENT WITH HIM. I MEAN, LOOK AT THIS GEAR!”
Howard swept his gaze across the room, only to freeze in place.
“Uh, Cunningham—”
“IT’S AMAZING!” Randy turned his eyes up to the ceiling with a disbelieving chuckle and a wide grin on his face. “I STILL CAN’T BELIEVE HE WAS ABLE TO HOOK US UP WITH THIS KIND OF STUFF.”
The ginger quickly jumped off the stool and stood in front of the taller of the two. He viciously waved his hands in front of his chest.
“Cunningham—!”
“LIKE, I KNOW THE ONLY REASON WE LET HIM IN THE BAND WAS BECAUSE HIS FAMILY OWNS A RECORD LABEL AND HE GETS UNLIMITED ACCESS TO THEIR GEAR, LIKE THAT SICK GUITAR HE CARRIES AROUND LIKE SOME WEIRD PSEUDO-BABY. BUT, STILL! WE SHOULD—”
“CUNNINGHAM!”
Like a bullet, Randy ducked his head down, snapping his eyes towards his best friend.
“WHA—” A pause, followed by narrowed eyes and furrowed brows. “WHY AREN’T YOU COVERING YOUR EARS?”
Howard motioned towards the door. “He stopped playing 30 seconds ago!”
Lowering his hands, Randy turned his head and instantly winced. There stood Levander, teary eyes as wide and round as the glasses he wore. His shoulders were slumped, body hunched forward.
“Hoo boy…” Randy gulped. “He…he heard what I said?”
“Y-You…You used me?” Levander choked out, as if to answer him. He took a step back, planting himself firmly at the threshold between the janitor’s closet and the empty hallway outside.
Twin grimaces plastered themselves across Randy and Howard’s faces.
“Levander, wait—” they both tried to say.
“You used me,” he repeated, harsher. More strained. Like he was holding back either a scream or a sob. “I-I thought…Y-You…Y-You said you—”
“Hold on!” Howard cried right as Randy pleaded, “Hear us out—”
“NO!” Levander ripped his guitar right off of him and threw it onto the ground with a deafening bang. “FUCK NO! I…I…”
He looked Randy straight in the eye, holding his gaze for just a beat. Then—
“I HATE YOU!”

So yesterday my girlfriend, sister and I went to the Daniel Johns Exhibition in Melbourne and it was amazing.
It's hard to explain how much Daniel Johns and his music has had an impact on my life.
There are certain memories you have as a child that you distinctively remember. So many of mine are tied to music and in particular Silverchair. I've written before how I got into music but for a quick recap it went like this: car trips with mum listening to Neil Diamond, The Seekers and Golden Oldies on her way to work, me finding rage and recovery on TV and coming across the film clip for Freak by Silverchair. It was the absolute coolest thing I'd ever seen. Who were this band? How does his guitar sound like that? How do they look so cool and why aren't they wearing suits like Athol Guy did on the cover if the Seekers cassette?
Well the answers were: Silverchair, it's distortion, and it's called fashion... look it up.
I very soon became completely obsessed with Silverchair. I had memorised the time it would come on rage (it charted well and stayed in a similar spot for ages) and would make sure I watched the clip every week (it was pre-youtube and before I could work the VCR so I had to wait for it to come on TV).
The whole band looked amazing! Long hair! Eyebrow piercing! Are you fucking kidding me?  If only I could be a cool as THEM!
For weeks I would wait and watch this song every week. Then one day, coming up to my Dads birthday, Mum asked me to come and have a secret conversation about something she had in a small black plastic bag...
'Do you know if Dad likes this band?' And she slid out a copy of Freak Show by Silverchair on CD. I had no idea what it was. It wasn't Neil Diamond's Hot August Nights on cassette. What is this weird square. 'It's a CD of Silverchair. It has their songs on it.'
Holy shit! Do you mean to tell me that if we put this in a machine Im not allowed to use that I can hear my favourite song... whenever I want?
My mind was blown. For once I couldn't wait for someone ELSE to have a birthday.
The day of Dads birthday came and he put the CD on and I listened to the whole thing and let it wash over me like a warm bath of distorted guitar, loud thumping drums and pumping bass. I had never heard anything like it. It felt like it connected all the synapses in my brain together. I had found the sound that I never knew existed up until now but always wanted to hear. Amazing stuff.
For the next few years I listened almost exclusively to Freak Show. I memorised the whole thing, every guitar note, every word, every cymble crash. I would listen to the album in my head on car trips (I never had a portable cd player cos we were poor).
This actually came in handy decades later when I had to have an MRI that would take 45 minutes. The nurse asked if I wanted any music put through the headphones they make you wear. I didn't have Spotify or any music on my phone at the time so in my brain I just listened to Freak Show and surprisingly it was all still in there. For that 45 minutes I wasn't laying uncomfortably in a giant metal humming tube taking intricate pictures of the veins in my hand, but rather transported back to sitting in the lounge room on a comfy chair with Freak Show on my headphones and looking and the weird and wonderful 'freaks' on the album art.
It's a great album and only hints at the genius talent behind it.
I'll wrap this entry up here but I'm definitely going to come back and write more about Daniel Johns because he's amazing.
In the meantime, go and check out the exhibition in Melbourne if you can. It's incredible as is the man behind it.

Chapter 17. And The Audience Departed As I Gave Her Heart Away
Club Venus, Hollywood California April 19 2002
"Alright let's turn this party up!" Tommy calls out from behind the DJ booth and everybody cheers with him and he continues to spin the decks while the pumping drum and bass music fills the entire club.
"Congratulations girl," Lizzy says in my ear as she embraces me in a hug.
"Thank you, I'm so fucking happy you made it," I say loudly over the music.
"You know I wouldn't miss a party celebrating you being engaged to Tommy fuckin' Lee!" She says in astonishment when she pulls away from me.
"Trust me I still can't believe it myself!" I say.
It was still early in the night and everyone was having a good time. Tommy playing an impromptu set - he just couldn't help himself - and so many of his friends and people that we both know one way or another are here as well.  The club was filled and it was amazing.
"Andi!" I hear a voice call me and I turn and see Susan Holmes, Duff Mckagens wife, her beautiful tall blonde self approaching me.
"Oh my god hi!" I smile excitedly and she embraces me in a hug.
"Congrats girlie, I'm so happy for you," She says in my ear over the music.
"Thank you. Is Duff here too?" I ask once she pulls away from me.
"Yea, he's over by the bar mingling, y'know," She says and suddenly Sebastian Bach - who I haven't seen in years - comes up to me to congratulate me.
"Holy shit!" I exclaim when I see his tall frame standing in front of me.
"Someone told me that little Andi O'Riden is getting married to Tommy Lee, now how in the fuck did that happen?" He says in that familiar exaggerated surfer voice he does.
"Baz!" I say excitedly and he leans down to me embracing me in a hug.
I can't believe he is standing in front of me. The last time we saw each other was when Soundgarden was opening for Skid Row back in '92, and before then, I hadn't seen him since he moved away from our hometown of Toronto Ontario, when we were just kids - well ok I was 16 and he was 18 but still kids. We had grown up together living just right around the corner from each other and went to the same school though he was 2 years my senior. He always stood up for me when all the kids would pick on me, and I guess he did have a crush on me, at least he only admitted it to me years ago when I was still with Chris. He was always the closest thing to home that I could actually get and I wish we hadn't let time get away from us.
"Hey sweetie, congratulations," He says and we hold each other for a few more moments.
"Thank you," I say as he continues to hold me.
"I missed you kiddo," He says.
"I've missed you too," I say, my voice breaking. We eventually pull away from each other and I introduce Lizzy to Baz, explaining our history as quickly as I could - the shortened version anyways - they smile and shake hands.
"What's up everyone?!" Tommy says through the microphone and everyone cheers.
"I uh, just wanna thank all of you, for comin' out, Andi and I really appreciate it and uh, by the way where is that gorgeous fiance of mine?" He says in that husky voice of his, all flirtatious and sweet as he looks out at the crowd from the DJ booth.
"She's right here!" Susan yells and gestures to me and I could feel the blood rushing straight to my cheeks.
"Baby, c'mon get up here with me," Tommy says into the mic with that charming smile of his. I timidly walk up to the small side stage to the booth that Tommy was standing behind and everyone starts yelling and shouting random cheers.
"Look how fuckin' gorgeous she is, I mean, hello," Tommy says and there are more cheers from everyone and I could feel my cheeks flush even more, as I shyly approach him.
"I honestly just wanted you up here to show you off to everyone," He chuckles with that huge charming smile.
"Oh my god, stop," I giggle as the mic barely picks up my voice and he takes my hand.
"No way baby," He says as some laughter emerges from the crowd.
"But really... I just wanted to thank you guys," He says turning to the crowd and then back to me "... and I just wanted to say how much I love you and everything about you, and how fuckin' happy you make me... and I just can't fuckin' wait to make you my wife,"
As some 'awes' emerge from the crowd, he raises my hand to his lips and places a few quick kisses to the back of my hand looking deep into my eyes and all I could feel was my heart fluttering, trying to fly out of my chest. Without even thinking and completely forgetting that I'm in front of all our friends, I place my palms on either side of his face and he leans down pressing his lips to mine.
"Aero! where are you!?" Tommy says into the mic when he parts his lips from me and still holds me to him and I place my hand on his bare chest through his open white shirt. Then DJ Aero climbs up to the small stage, jumps behind the decks taking the mic from Tommy and starts spinning as the pumping drum and bass music fills the club again.
"So this is your engagement party huh?!" A voice calls out and Tommy looks out over the crowd and sees Nikki Sixx, standing by the stage steps near me, his hair so black, spikey and just everywhere.
He startled me with just how much of a presence he is, his tall frame wearing a plain black t-shirt underneath his black leather jacket and black ripped jeans. I had never met him before and I suddenly felt extremely nervous.
Where's a drink when you need one?
"Holy shit! No way fucker!" Tommy smiles, letting go of me and immediately moving towards Nikki and grabbing him in a brotherly embrace.
"C'mon you think I'd miss this?" Nikki laughs as they pull away from each other.
"Well fuck man, I... I mean, fuck it's good to see you bro," Tommy says happily. Then after a couple of moments Tommy remembers me.
"Oh fuck, sorry babe... um, this is Nikki - "Tommy says excitedly when he turns back to me,  then says "Nikki, this is Andi," placing his arm around me and pressing his lips to my temple.
"Hi," I say sweetly and shyly with a giggle, which at first completely felt like I was one of those girls that have that small baby voice, all innocent and flirty sounding but I am positive I'm just overthinking it.
"Hi," Nikki says with a chuckle and a sweet smile.
Yea I definitely sounded like one of those girls.
Tommy and Nikki then start to catch up with each other, since they hadn't seen each other in months, and I couldn't help but just listen and watch them as it seemed like no time had passed between them. Nikki asked a few questions about me and I answered, trying my best to be confident but I'm so shy, especially when meeting Nikki Sixx.
"... yea, so I've just been working on the record, spending time with my boys when I get the chance, and uh yea that's pretty much it," Tommy says.
"Well and obviously getting engaged and shit," Nikki chuckles as he glances at me.
"Yea that too," Tommy smiles.
I then see Lizzy out of the corner of my eye, walk up to stand beside me holding out a drink for me to take.
"Oh my god, I love you," I say as I take it from her and Tommy and Nikki laugh.
"I thought you might like that," She says with a giggle.
"Oh um, Lizzy, this is Nikki," I say when I finish my sip and then say "Nikki, this is my best friend Lizzy"
"Hi," She says sweetly and it was like Nikki suddenly couldn't see anyone else but her.
"Hi," He smiles at her subtly but not so subtly, studies her for a few before Tommy interjects saying something about needing to go and get a drink and have a smoke, then Lizzy apologizes that she didn't bring him one as well but she only has two hands and the other drink was hers and Tommy just laughed. She then glances back at Nikki smiling that sweet smile she has and pushing a few of her red waves behind her ear.
Tommy then places a quick kiss to that spot under my earlobe, his hand on my hip moving to the small of my back feeling his warm hands on my bare skin, then moving to my ass and I giggle as he gives it a gentle squeeze, then turns to Nikki asking him to join him and he does but not before Nikki steals a few glances at Lizzy as they head off to the side entrance doorway disappearing in the crowd.
"Holy shit I just met Nikki," Lizzy says excitedly.
"Uh huh, and I think he's got his eye on you already," I say and take a sip.
"Me? No... pfft," She says dismissively, taking a sip of her drink.
"Andi! Andi!" I hear someone calling my name and I turn and see Tommy's business partner and partial owner of the club walking towards me with the cordless phone in his hand "You're wanted on the phone!" He says over the loud music once he approaches me.
"Me?!" I ask, confused.
"Yea, they say they were trying to call you on your cell but you weren't answering," He says leaning into my ear so that I could hear, and I realize I had left my cell phone with my wallet in the back dressing room of the club. He holds out the cordless phone to me and I take it, quickly telling Lizzy that I'll be back, asking if she could hold my drink and she nods taking it from me, then I make my way to a quieter spot in the club just by the back dressing rooms.
"Hello?" I answer, holding the phone up to my one ear and plugging the other so that I can hear.
"Andi, jeezus, I've been trying to call you,"
It was Susan Silver, my former partner in our management company that she started a long time ago back in Seattle.
"Hey hi... what's going on?" I ask in a sweet tone.
"Andi, Jerry asked me to call you cause he couldn't bring himself to do it - "
"What? Why?" I ask, becoming concerned.
"It's Layne Andi... you gotta come home,"
"Home? Wait, what happened?"
"Layne's gone... he was found this morning in his condo... he's gone..."
"What?" I ask quietly, my brow furrowing.
"He's gone Andi... you gotta come back home,"
With those words ringing in my ears, the entire club completely went silent and all I could hear was the tremendous loud ringing in my ears. It was like I couldn't even see straight and as minutes pass that feel more like hours, I see Tommy walking up to me.
"Baby, what are you doing back here?" I hear Tommy say to me as he appears and I still couldn't feel anything.
"I gotta go home," I say as my bottom lip begins to quiver, and Tommy's expression changes to worry as I fight back the urge to cry.
"Baby what happened?" He asks, placing his palms on either side of my face, forcing me to look at him, but I couldn't speak. He then takes the phone from me and holds it up to his ear to speak.
"Hello? Who is this?" He asks sternly at first and then once Susan explains the situation he looks at me and I start to really cry.
"Ok uh, ok... ok... ok I'll tell her... thank you..." Tommy says into the phone and then tosses it onto the leather bench beside the dressing room door. He then takes my face in his palms again and looks directly into my tear filled eyes.
"We're going to Seattle ok baby? I'll book the jet and we'll head out tonight," He says and all I wanted to do was just crumble. Everything was numb. I couldn't see, hear or feel anything. He then wraps his arms around me and I lost it. I just started bawling into his chest and I couldn't control it.
The only thing I remember is Tommy taking out his cell phone from his back pocket and making a call.
"Hey... yea dude, it's me... we need the jet tonight... Seattle... awesome, thanks man," He says and slides his phone back in his pocket.
"Oh my god no, I can't... I can't" I sniff lifting my head up from his chest.
"What baby, what do you mean?" Tommy asks.
"I can't leave, this is our engagement party... we can't just go," I say.
"Yes we can, don't even worry about everyone else... I'll call Leo and he'll take us back home, we'll grab some shit and head to the airport,"
"Are you sure?" I look up at him
"Yes," He says, looking into my eyes.
"He's... he's gone," and I start to cry once more as Tommy pulls me into his arms.

Riotfest was so fucking fun this year
Friday was great! We didn't make it early enough to see Aquadolls but we saw everyone else we wanted! Hawthorne Heights ended up being a great start to our day! Oso Oso, Screaming Females, Silverstein, and Tegan and Sara all had great crowd vibes.
Dave Grohl was phenomenal. The Foo Fighters were just having a good time and I think I fell in love with Josh Freese so there's that. They kept showing a birds eye of his drumming and I fucking died. I loved their jamming and the goofy vibes.
Saturday was non-stop for us! We saw most of Warpaint's set. That was definitely worth being up earlier than planned.
Bowling for Soup made a bunch of emo kids sing the Phineas and Ferb Theme song. Enter Shakari was amazing! My crazy-shy friend jumped in one of the pits! Im so proud of her! We even saw the last 15 of Corey Feldman's set -weird choice but he brought such good energy. Head Automatica was great live
Watched the first half of Death Cab for Cutie's set and even got to see all of Sleep Token (due to a tech issue, it got pushed back).
Then ICP! holy shit. I thought I knew what to expect, but I was unprepared. It was everything I wanted and more. Is it sacrilegious to wash the battle vest I was faygo-baptized in?
Sunday was probably my favorite day, even with the rain delay. Unfortunately Microwave & Just Mustard got cut due to said delay, but LS Dunes came back to celebrate their first year as a Real Band. Joined the pit nearly every song and held point when I needed a break. Even met Punk!Dino. What an experience.
I saw Flogging Molly, most of Gorilla Biscuits, and cried when The Used played Giving Up.
I also cried during The Cure's set but what else is to be expected? I also made temporary friends with a lovely group of 50 year olds.

I’m rewatching the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies over the next few days. And I’m writing down stuff as I go.
I literally found the 2021 version, which was literally marked as the 2010s one. Ridiculous. But the opening? Iconic. Number one the dedication from lazy ass Rodrick who doesn’t get up early for shit getting up early to prank his brother is dedication. Number two this is the best Rodrick of course.
I love Greg’s mom. Milf energy.
Oh no the even more dedication to then pretend to be asleep.
Greg is such a cutie. And the animation is weirdly good. And the fact that older Greg is literally the same.
Rowley is pretty awesome yall.
This was before the main character talking to the camera was overtired.
Rodrick is and will always be the best character. And the chemistry between the brothers is amazing.
Are these actual pictures of the kids? And honestly Greg? Same. I haven’t grown since middle school. Also got me thinking about calm collected older brother Greg and hullagen middle brother Rodrick.
19th Greg? Never.
Did they segregate the kids by gender in the 2010s? I never got that.
I thought one of the boys grabbed another’s ass. They didn’t though.
Though the transitions to the music is really well done.
I fully believe that all cool I’m not like other girls actresses turn out to be attracted to women in one way or another. It’s inevitable. The flannel? It’s a sign.
Greg, let Rowley flirt with the not like other girls girl. She’s hot. From a teen to a teen of course. But she does turn into a hottie later. Love her actress.
Someone should have just thrown the gross disgusting cheese away.
Why do mens bathrooms not have doors? What is wrong with y’all?
Just eat outside or something guys?
Who the hell is the bully? I recognize him. I’m looking it up? Holy shit I think he was in Supernatural. He was in Supernatural.
I love Rodrick. And how honest Rowley is.
Oh no. Dont go into Rodricks room. Also no Rowley he isn’t into motercycles.
You want to be in the yearbook? Your middle school yearbook? Really. God damn it Greg focus on other and better things.
Rodrick is going to shove that drum stick up Greg’s ass. Or at least that’s what it looks like.
Rowley is a great friend for risking his life for Greg. Also Rodrick should have barked at Rowley. It would have been funny.
Just pee out the window or something babe. Rodrick the bitch for just putting his shoes there. Also what did you think was going to happen babe? You should have waited for him to finish peeing before jumping out at him.
Also Rodrick is a basterd and I love him for it.
I love bitchy women. Go off Patty. Plus she definatly had a reason for kicking his ass. Greg’s the bad guy in this movie.
Also the paper is the voice of the people? And you’re talking about some cheerleader and how much weight she’s gained?
All I’m thinking of is the South Park episode with Wrestling. A good episode. Coach is not getting up for a while. You would not be wrestling that guy Greg.
Fregly just told you that he is using his moms wreasting gear and you think you can take him? In your dreams Greg.
Wrestling really is just so gay.
As someone who didn’t do clubs, I relate to Rodrick.
That sounds like so much work. I’ll stick to being a fatass.
Go Patty go!! Kick his ass girly!!
Oh like you were ever that high up. Just stick to the middle.
The kid who came in a suit was never the best. You look Mormon kid not fancy. Or even hot.
Now the homophobia. Plus we all know he’s fucking his brother not Rowley. Rowley deserves to be with that super cool girl although she probably gay as a former closeted lesbian and now an open lesbian.
I remember this weird ass PSA. “Do you guys like breakdancing?”
Babe Rowley is awesome without you. Let him be him. Also girl you are the one who is saying gag me with a spoon mean girl.
As someone who used to wear a backpack with one strap it’s a bad thing for your back babe.
Love the fit Halloween fit Rowley!!
Candy corn is good asshole.
I’m pretty sure Rodrick can just buy his own makeup. Also love that Greg hates Rodrick yet believes his stupid things. Rodrick is pretty good at being scary though. I would love to hear a horror narrated by him.
“How did the trees get there?” “And then they planted trees”
Rodrick should have been a drunk all I have to say. He would have been so much better if he drank beer. And it would have been hot.
Just drenching random kids with water. Also why announce that you’re calling the cops on them dipshit? That’s stupid.
Don’t make fun of them idiot.
You should have listen to your your mom Rowley. Greg is an asshole.
Devil Worship woods is fake dipshit. You’re what a high school? You should be past this shit random bullies.
I am now 45 minutes in when does the plot come in?
That was one of the nerdiest ways to call someone hot ever. Pig Latin? Really?
Is safety patrol real? I’ve never seen that or hall monitor down by kids.
No way I’ll find out who this is on my own but the kid at 47:12 is really familiar.
You’re lucky for Rowley dipshit.
Another thing I love about Rodrick x Greg is that Greg is also a shitty person along with Rodrick.
Girls like a man who’s a bit pathetic what can I say? But not too pathetic.
Just because you draw all the time doesn’t mean shit.
Zowee Mama!! It’s ducking haliariius. But in a weird way. Also as a non autistic person is Rowley supposed to be autistic?
Also I do like that Greg never gets his way. Instead it’s Rowley who Greg shits on constantly.
Greg is a piece of shit. And a bad friend.
Listen to you’re milf of a mom Greg. She’s amazing and I love her. That was not the right thing to do asshole.
I hate the trope of “oh my god this thing is so funny and then it’s just just the worst things ever!” It’s so bad.
But also “Don’t call me. Don’t come by my house. We’re done.”
While I am a incest girlie. Greg and Rowley does have appeal. It’s quite cute. Also this is a break up scene. Obviously.
Oh my god the kid I was talking about earlier? Got a name for him and looked him up. And he was on fucking Supernatural!!! I should have known y’all.
Maybe if they didn’t limit his candy intake it wouldn’t affect him like this you know. But that kid is weirdly terrifying and that is so fun of him. Love a creepy and terrifying weirdo.
Yet another iconic scene with the singing. And it’s revekaged that Greg has one of the best voices. But kid 2 has a pretty decent one. Though it’s totally not the actors voice.
Greg as Dorthy would be beautiful. Him in the dress? Love that for him.
I also would have loved to throw apples at anyone. Not just her.
Just a suggestion don’t draw attention to it. His eyes being drawn to Rodrick is amazing. Forgetting your lines is more embarrassing idiots.
Another ship idea. Greg and Patty where they grow up and she would absolutely peg the shit out of him. I’m thinking of the cock shame picture.
Why didn’t Rodrick say anything at the play. Rodrick actor is just so fucking good.
The kid playing Manny is just so cute.
I mean at least Rodricks hot. His music sucks. Also Rodrick is hitting all the right points.
Also Susan love you babe but it’s a magazine with half naked women. It’s not even full porn. And even then it wouldn’t be that bad. Porn is okay for women as long as they are consenting.
God Greg’s mom is hot. Other then the anti porn shit of course.
Not only do Rowley and his mom have this song choreographed but the dance floor is completely empty for most of it. Damn.
I’m like an hour and 19 minutes in will the cheese ever become relevant.
Okay Rowley maybe don’t bring the broken arm into this. There are more reasons he sucks.
I forgot this peice if shit makes them eat the fucking cheese. I will be skipping this because ewe.
Well you tried I guess Greg. Is the not like other girl girl suppose to be Greg or Rowley’s live interest?
And the scene of them making it is so fucking romantic. This is the gayest shit I’ve ever seen yall.
Bitch Patty is a girl boss and you’re just not able to see it.
In conclusion. Good movie for it’s time. Some fat phobia of course and homophobia. But watching it makes me want to re read the books now. But I’m going to watch the other movies which I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen before. Two I might have but after that I was too old for them.

You Send Me Flying
(Author’s notes: written with @nature-and-music, beta’ed by @lady-jane-revisited. Warnings: language, smut will come later)
I don't want to make a habit of this
But seeing you is like getting a fix
Every time I kid myself; I'll never do it again
Definition of love on a cliff
A lemming has no alternative
I want to die in your arms
That's my suicide wish
Tumblr media
Chapter One:
I’m at a party with Vince where he’s playing with his band, Rock Candy. We had gone to school together, along with Tommy, who we hadn’t seen or heard from since graduation. That’s about to change.
I’m talking with some of the guests around me when the singer’s set is over and start to excuse myself so I can join him at the bar. I’m getting better about being more social, but sometimes it’s still a little overwhelming. The next thing I hear is a familiar voice greeting Vince. I turn around just in time to see him hugging Tommy. When they pull away, I jump up to hug the other man in a bear hug.
“Tommy! I’ve missed you!” then I smack his shoulder, hard. “Where the hell have you been?!”
“Ow,” Tommy whined, rubbing his shoulder. “Trying to start a band, man! Damn, you hit hard!” His eyes light up and he pulls a tape out of his jacket pocket. “That reminds me! Vince, we still need a singer,” Tommy says, handing the tape over. “Give it a listen, will ya?”
Vince hesitantly takes the tape, asking who else is in the band. Tommy happily points out the other two who came with him. I lean toward Tommy, getting a better look. Both men are cute, but I have a weak spot for blue eyes.
“Who’s the short one?” I ask.
“Dude, no way!” Tommy laughs. “He’s like… old!”
“He doesn’t look that old! Plus, you know I have a thing for blue eyes.” I whispered that last part so only Tommy and Vince could hear. I look over at them again and I see him looking at me with a raised eyebrow. Had he heard us anyway?
“Gross,” Tommy mutters before turning his attention back to Vince. “Just give the tape a listen, man. There’s a number on it where you can reach us.”
“Yeah, alright, I’ll listen to it tonight.”
After a quick goodbye, I couldn’t help myself, watching the “old man” walk away. Vince laughs beside me. “You finally found someone you’re willing to give it up for?”
“Shut up, Blondie!”
About a week later, after convincing Vince to actually listen to the tape, we went to audition. Well, he did, I went for moral support. His girlfriend came too, who acted like a bitch from the moment we got there. She completely ignores Nikki’s greeting and then just stands there looking at them, half in disgust. I shake the bassist's hand in formal greeting, as does Vince.
“Nikki Sixx,” he addresses with a wide smile, then pointing to the “old man” as he plugged in his guitar. “That’s Mick Mars right there.”
He nodded his head as he adjusted his guitar strap comfortably upon his shoulder. I gave him a little smile, but his focus was on his instrument, something that I could understand.
Nikki tapped on my shoulder, “There’s some beer in the fridge if you want some.”
I thanked him and as I headed towards the kitchen, I couldn’t help but overhear Vince asking what was the matter to his girlfriend. Her response was something along the lines of making sure that the rest of the guys were good enough to play with him. The silence in the apartment was so prevalent that one could hear a pin drop after such a remark. I rolled my eyes as I cracked open the bottle cap, making my way back to the living room. The first strum of Mick’s guitar made my heart stop for a split second, the same feeling intensified when Tommy and Nikki played along as well. The vocals from Vince that came in seconds later really boosted their sound. I rested my back against the wall as I heard them play. However things came to halt when Vince’s girl told them to stop, commenting that their music was “too heavy.”
“Hey, how about giving him an actual chance?!” I asked a little more angrily than I intended. Then I turned to Vince. “You got this.”
The boys talked amongst themselves about changing up the tuning and tempo, Nikki recommending to Vince about where he could really push it vocally. Next thing we knew, the four of them practically created an earthquake, their little session could have brought the roof down! We were shocked and amazed at how incredible they sounded. It was heavy and just the right amount of aggressive. I clapped after they completed their song and exclaimed that they sounded amazing!
Tommy was ecstatic as he stood up and gave Vince a high five, “Fuck yeah dude! You sound amazing!”
Nikki appeared as if the wheels in his head were turning, reflecting on what just occurred in the last few minutes, meanwhile Mick simply stood there as if nothing happened. Tommy ran to the fridge to grab everyone a celebratory drink.
Nikki groaned, “Dude, come on, we need to save those for later-”
Tommy ignored his unfinished remark as he passed the bottles around, “That was crazy, Vince you sounded awesome! And Mick, holy shit, I’ve never heard guitar playing like that before!”
Mick shrugged as he took a gulp of his drink, “Whatever, come on we have more to work on.” He kept his head down and strummed the strings, although I could see a little smile pulling at his lips. “Alright, what’s next Nikki?”
The bassist turned to the band and so they played another tune, this time even louder and heavier than the previous one. The banging from the annoyed neighbors downstairs could barely be heard, although I could definitely feel the pounding from below my feet. I couldn’t help but get lost in their sound as I watched them, especially the way Mick’s fingers would manipulate and pull at the strings. If I didn’t know any better, I could have sworn that he looked at me for a brief second. Regardless of what I thought I saw, the musicians played one more song, one that was a little slower, yet still could pack a punch musically and lyrically. Tommy would perform a little trick where he would twirl his drum sticks when the timing seemed right, Nikki would put his best foot forward as he plucked the strings of his bass, Vince would proceed to move his body the way a snake slithers across the grass, and Mick had loosened up a bit himself. The guitarist would lean forward, pointing the neck of his instrument away from him and mimicking a shooting- like motion.
Now it was time for a break, they all congregated in the kitchen and helped themselves to another round of drinks. Even Vince’s girlfriend was more or less slowly warming up to the rest of the band. Although I could see from the looks on Nikki’s and Mick’s faces that they weren’t the least bit interested in her being around them with the attitude she gave them earlier. Mick looked over to me and I could see that little smirk again, but he actually kept it this time.
“So what do you think? About the music?” he asked.
I smiled, “You guys sounded amazing. I’ve never heard anything like it before. I don’t even think the punk music scene sounds this hard.”
Nikki interjected, “Yeah, well that’s them, not us.”
“Is that your best attempt at a ‘thank you’ Nikki?” I pondered with a chuckle.
“Shut up,” he responded with a chortle.
Vince’s girlfriend took her man by the arm, “Vince, can you step outside for a second? I want to talk to you.”
The poor man had no choice but to follow, giving us a nod and to let us know that he’d be back shortly. Once she was out of sight, everyone let out a sigh of relief.
“Hate to be him,” Nikki mentioned, causing Tommy to snicker. He turned to me, “Listen, we got to practice a bit more, but you're welcome to stay if you want to.”
I smiled and nodded, “Cool man, yeah I’d like that.”
Tommy sat up on the countertop, dangling his long legs as he took another swig, “Cool! So where are we gonna play first? I hope it’s not gonna be a bunch of pool parties or gyms.”
I rested against the fridge, “I think you guys need a name first, Tommy.”
“We’re gonna work on that tonight, as soon as Vince gets his ass back here,” Nikki noted. “And hey, when we get our first gig, you can come too. But the bitch ain’t coming.”
We could all wholeheartedly agree on that matter.
