"Oh so you ARE alive and conscious." Harry yelled out from the other side of the room, sprinting between book stacks to meet me by the very last bookcase.
His entire presence startled me. It even took me a moment to realize that it was him. I hadn't asked him to come to the library. I hadn't told him that I was working today. It was as if he'd just materialized out of thin air and started speeding towards me, his voice on the verge of yelling.
"W-what are you doing here?"
"What am i-for fuck's sakes." He ran his fingers through his hair and sighed deeply. "I called Fran. She told me you were up here. Apparently freaking out students with your crying..."
dammit, Fran! All I wanted to do today was get my work done so I could go home and crawl into bed as soon as possible. I definitely wasn't planning on having a yelling contest, and with Harry of all people.
"You called Fran? Seriously, Harry? so you're spying on me now?" I knew that I was focusing on the wrong detail. But, for whatever reason, him calling people to ask them about my whereabouts infuriated me in that moment. Perhaps it was my way of deflecting, avoiding the real conversation.
"Spying?! Seriously? I was concerned, Matilda! I hadn't heard from you since yesterday morning."
"That's not my name!" Again, not really a point worth arguing over. I knew what he really came over here to argue about. He was right. I'd ignored his texts all yesterday and today. I skipped the daily "good morning" text, I didn't reply when he asked if I'd eaten. I was breaking rules left and right. And those are only the rules that he knows I've broken.
"I thought maybe you were hurt, or sick, or something had happen-"
"I'm fine, Harry. Like you said, I'm 'alive and conscious.' So, go away." I didn't actually want him to go away. I wanted him to stay. But my anxious brain was convinced that he'd be better off without me.
"Have you eaten today?"
"Shouldn't you be on set right now? filming a pretty important scene?"
"Have you eaten today?"
My tongue was tied. I didn't know how to tell him that I'd disappointed him, that I'd broken yet another rule. I lifted my head up, keeping my eyes at the ceiling to avoid the inevitable tears.
"What, like, since breakfast?" His tone was now completely calm.
Still silent and unable to look at him, Harry filled in the gaps himself.
"Since yesterday? fuckin hell- C'mon. Work can wait, let's go."
"No."
There goes another rule.
"excuse me? You know how important-"
"Please leave, Harry. Go away. You're smothering me. I can't do this anymore. just- just go." Please don't. Please say you'd rather stay.
Harry stood there, stiffly and silently seething, as he watched me blatantly disregard everything we'd ever agreed on. His outraged gaze and disappointment were too intense to handle, so I turned my attention back to the books that I'd been working on. Seeing me seemingly dismiss him was the last straw. Harry turned around and walked back out. He'd actually left me.
***
It was already pitch black outside by the time that I walked out of the library gates and into the salty summer air. For the first time today, I noticed how achy my body felt. From head to toe.
I stopped by the pizza place on my way home to grab a quick dinner that I'd planned on bringing into bed with me. However, for some reason, when I left the restaurant, I found myself heading in the direction of Harry's place instead.
His car was parked in the driveway, so there was a good chance he was home. I rang the doorbell, my hands shaking.
Moments later, Harry opened the door. He said nothing. Not even a greeting.
"Can I come in?" Still nothing.
"I brought food!" I held up the pizza box. "You know how important it is." I echoed his earlier words in an attempt at lightening the mood.
I saw the slightest smile tug at his lips, but he resisted. Still not a word from him. He stepped to the side, finally giving me permission to enter.
I walked through the hallway and into the living room. Setting the pizza down on the off table and making myself comfortable.
"So, what are you up to tonight?" I was desperate to get any words at all out of him.
"Just watching TV."
Victory! I glanced at the black TV screen and back at Harry.
"Fine, ok, I wasn't watching TV. But I am furious with you, you know."
"A-about that..." I picked up a throw pillow, needing something for my fidgety hands to focus on. "Look, What I said earlier, I-"
"I believe your exact words were 'I'm smothering you' and 'you can't do this anymore.' Do you not like our dynamic...what we have?"
I felt my heart break when hearing his question. My words, as he repeated them back to me, sounded cruel. Not to mention, a complete lie. Our dynamic, his dominance, his rules, my submission, have actually saved me. I wouldn't change any of it for the world. Not that my recent behavior is any indication.
"Oh, god, Harry. Of course I do! Please. You can never doubt that." I made room for him to sit right next to me on his couch. "I know I broke the rules-"
"All of them."
"Yes, all of them. And-"
"There will be consequences."
"Yes, but- I don't know how to say this."
"You can tell me anything. I thought you knew that..."
"Sometimes..." I swallowed. "I guess sometimes I worry that I'm too much for you. Like I'm a lot to handle, and for little to no reward. You have to check up on me everyday. You have to force me to eat, calm me down cuz I get really bad anxiety... Like, it's such a burden, it's almost like you have a child! and for what?! I ask myself sometimes if you wouldn't be a lot happier, and dating someone actually mature and stable, if you didn't have your hands so full with me."
Harry's heartbreak was written all over his face. I couldn't tell if it's because he pitied me, or if he just thought I was ending things.
"I don't even wanna tell you this stuff cuz then you'll just be stuck having to reassure me and say all these nice things. I don't want you to say nice things just to make me feel better, it'd only make me feel like more of a burden."
"No nice things. Promise." He finally cracked a smile.
"So...are you gonna punish me?"
"Of course, but later. Right now I want you to keep talking. I want to try and understand."

YOUR POV
Falling for Elena happened slowly but surely, and I didn't really get a say in the matter.
I knew I had a small crush on her, that much was obvious, but I thought it would be one of those things that would just go away with time. Of course, that wasn't the case.
There was one time when I was certain I was unable to stop falling for her. It was about two months into our friendship and the start of my downfall of liking her. We were going to the cinema with Y/BF/N and a few others in our group of friends, watching some film I had no idea existed. I wasn't too keen on going myself, but Y/BF/N was adamant, so I had no choice.
All I knew was that it was a two hour film that I definitely didn't have the patience for. Elena came, the two of us deciding to go together since she didn't mind picking me up in her car, and met the others there.
As we were settling into our seats, I tried to get comfortable and think about the film with an open mind. But two hours was far too long, and I had the attention span of a fish. Y/BF/N was sat to my left, already chatting everyone's ears off about how much she was looking forward to it, and Elena was sat to my right, snacking on popcorn.
"You want some?" she offered with a raised brow, glancing my way. The lights were dimmed as the trailers played, but I could still make out flecks of gold in her eyes.
"Thanks," I mumbled, grabbing a handful before sinking into my seat.
She smiled with amusement. "What – are you not thrilled to be watching yet another James Bond film?"
I rolled my eyes, meeting her entertained gaze. "Who doesn't love a good Bond film that follows the same storyline as the last dozen films?"
She chuckled quietly before glancing over me to see the others rambling excitedly about the film.
"It seems a lot of people do," she joked as I leaned on the armrest between us. "Relax. It'll be over before you know it."
I sighed. "Let's hope so..."
To my expectation but Elena's probable dismay, I got bored about a third of the way into the film. I couldn't help it – I had no interested in the characters nor what was going on, plus action films were never my favourite. The others seemed to be loving it, even Elena who was fascinated by the fighting sequences. I tried so hard to get interested, but the darkness in the theatre room combined with my hand comfortably leaning on the armrest and the plush leather chair were all putting me to sleep.
At some point during the film, I must have fallen asleep because I was startled awake when Y/BF/N slapped my arm excitedly and asked me something.
I jumped up, opening my eyes and realising that A – the film was over and the lights were on in the room, B – everybody was getting up to leave and C – I'd fallen asleep on Elena's arm and most definitely drooled.
"What was that?" I asked Y/BF/N, trying to blink my fatigue away and hoping she couldn't tell otherwise.
She was too hyped to notice. "Wasn't that amazing? Did you see that ending?!"
I nodded quickly, playing along. "Yeah! So good!"
Satisfied with my response, she spun around and talked to the others, giving me chance to wipe the drool from my mouth and look to Elena with a sheepish smile.
"I did not expect to use you as a pillow during this film," I admitted, slightly embarrassed. "And I definitely didn't expect to leave a patch of drool on your shirt... sorry."
She chuckled, sitting forward. "It's okay. It was the most content you looked this whole evening."
I looked away awkwardly, embarrassed smile still on my lips.
"Don't worry, I won't tell the others you passed out," she whispered, giving me a teasing look.
"Thank you," I said gratefully, trying not to laugh.
After we all left the screening and said our goodbyes, I joined Elena in the car and we set off to my house. Admittedly, I was still half asleep and very glad to be heading to my bed, so Elena and I didn't make much conversation on the way back. My mum texted to check in, to which I told her we were on our way back, then she told me to invite Elena inside.
"So my sister has been baking cupcakes for some school thing tomorrow," I told Elena between a yawn. "There's some cupcakes left over and my mum is making you come in to take them off our hands."
Elena focused on driving, but a smile was playing on her lips. "Do I have a choice?"
"Not really."
She shrugged. "Okay. Free cupcakes. Who doesn't love that?"
I let my eyes linger on her profile for a second longer, taking in how pretty she looked tonight, but also when she was doing something as mundane as driving.
When we reached my house, she joined me in coming inside so I could give her the cupcakes. Y/S/N was asleep by now, but my mum greeted Elena before I walked her back to her car.
"Enjoy the cupcakes," I told her with a tired smile, watching as she put the container on the passenger's seat.
"I'm sure they'll be delicious," she said jokingly, before straightening up again. "Right, I should get back."
I nodded, leaning in and giving her a quick hug. "Thanks for being my lift tonight. And my pillow."
She returned the hug slowly, patting my back, and I closed my eyes for a second, appreciating how warm she was. The faint smell of her perfume was present and it was comforting to say the least.
When I pulled away, I took a step back and gave her a final smile, though my eyes lingered a bit too long as I subtly checked her out. It was probably my tiredness getting the better of me, but she just looked so damn beautiful.
"I'll see you on Thursday," she said, returning my smile, before getting into her car. Glancing out the window, she said, "Goodnight, Y/N."
I swallowed hard, waving goodbye. "Goodnight, El."
Watching as she drove off, I sighed to myself, knowing I needed to stop thinking about her like this. But as expected, that wasn't the case.
There was another time, not long after this, when I began to realise just how much I liked her. We were at some house party with a group of our friends, not really knowing who was throwing the party, nor the owners of the house, but enjoying our time anyway. I wasn't an avid party-goer, nor drinker, but occasionally I didn't mind letting loose, and this was one of those times.
I couldn't tell you what went down that night, not exactly. There were probably some stupid drinking games involved, an attempt at playing on the trampoline outside and almost throwing up, and maybe petting a dog that wasn't mine. All I knew was I lost track of where Elena and Y/BF/N were at some point, and then Elena found me as I was sat outside in some deck chair. She was holding Y/BF/N by her side carefully, approaching me with a concerned smile.
"There you both are!" I exclaimed, standing up and almost tripping over my own feet, making me giggle. I was tipsy, but not fully drunk, though I couldn't say the same for Y/BF/N, who looked like she was ready to pass out any minute.
"I think we should call it a night, Y/N," Elena said, holding Y/BF/N upright. "This one's about to drop at any second and it's getting late."
Knowing she was right, I attempted to check the time on my watch, but the numbers weren't staying put, so I believed Elena's words instead.
"Okay, c'mon," I agreed, patting my pockets to make sure I had my phone. When I felt I, I glanced at Y/BF/N and laughed to myself. "Don't wanna end up like her."
Elena nodded, eyes flittering around uncomfortably. I wondered what she was thinking, but then I began to check her out again, something I'd been doing a lot lately. She was wearing a crop top and leather jacket with some skinny jeans, and she definitely made it work. It was kind of hard not to appreciate how good she looked, especially when I got to her face and almost drooled at how beautiful she was, as always. Perfect glowing eyes accentuated by dark eye makeup, a cute button nose and full lips painted red... I'd never wanted to kiss her so badly in my life.
"Come on," she said, stepping forward and leading me away with her hand on the small of my back.
I looked away from her suddenly, sobering up and letting her take the lead. Trying to convince myself it was the alcohol was only doing so much... because I knew it was a lot more than that.

THIRD PERSON POV
Yelena closed the door to her apartment with a gentle click that same night she returned after the party. She wished she could understand why her chest was hurting and why her brain was so muddled.
Was it guilt? Did she feel guilty that she was taking advantage of someone for a mission? Were Natasha's speeches about doing good, being good, finally rubbing off on her? Because she knew Y/N was good. She was more certain than ever. And taking advantage of someone who was good was surely wrong...
With a shaky sigh, she closed her eyes and tried not to think about it, but the night was replaying in her mind. She'd found Y/BF/N making out with some guy in the kitchen and noticed he was getting too handsy, so naturally she saved her from the situation and led her away. And then Y/S/N just had to tell her the truth in her drunken state.
No wonder Y/N likes you. You look out for people.
Yelena almost choked on her spit when she'd heard those words. And when she'd asked Y/S/N to repeat herself, the girl chuckled to herself, barely paying attention.
Y/N likes you, idiot. Isn't it obvious?
She hadn't meant for it to get this far. She was only supposed to be her friend, but it explained so much. The lingering glances she felt on her whenever she was with Y/N, the excessive touching which she was still trying to get used to, the attention she always got whenever she was with her. It made sense.
And Yelena hated it.
She hated that Y/N made her chest hurt and made her mind confused and made her feel guilty. Because maybe, she liked her, too. And that wasn't right. Yelena hated everyone, that was her thing. But Y/N... she was waltzing her way in without even realising, and Yelena couldn't handle it.
The next morning was her weekly update with S.H.I.E.L.D. and she knew what she had to do. She couldn't keep leading Y/N on – it wasn't fair on her or herself.
"Look, we have a problem," she said on the call, glad that her training had prepared her for not giving her emotions away. "Y/N likes me– well, Elena, as more than a friend."
Agent Bowden, who was the one who she always exchanged information with, began to laugh. "Wow. You're kidding. How do you know that?"
Yelena squeezed the phone in her hand as she answered, "Her best friend told me at a party last night when she was drunk." Agent Bowden hummed in acknowledgement, so Yelena continued, "I think we should end the mission. This has gotten out of hand and if it goes any further, people could get hurt."
"Oh, no, we can't just stop now," he said, making Yelena furrow her brows. "You can use this to your advantage, Belova."
"What?"
"Date her," Agent Bowden clarified. "Who better than to get information off than your girlfriend? Or should I say Elena's girlfriend?"
Yelena tried to stay calm. "I thought the whole point of doing things your way was that nobody ends up hurt." She paused, maintaining her breathing. "This is playing with Y/N's feelings."
"Well, have you figured out who is the one speaking with Hydra?" Agent Bowden asked, and Yelena clenched her jaw when she knew he already knew the answer to that. He continued, "Exactly. So, you either find that out or do what I'm saying. You got that?"
Yelena closed her eyes, imagining the many ways she could kill Agent Bowden. "Got it."
"Good. Now, update for the week?"

YOUR POV
It was a little nippy outside today, so I tugged my coat around my torso even more and crossed my arms to keep some warmth in. Elena was sat beside me, seeming unbothered by the slight chill and simply watching the playground in the park as kids were playing.
"Thanks for still hanging out with me despite the last-minute change of plans," I said to her, giving her a small smile.
We were supposed to be grabbing coffee together, but I was given last-minute babysitting duty by my parents so decided to take Y/S/N to the park so I could still hang out with Elena.
"It's all good," she said dismissively. "It's nice that you look out for your sister."
"I believe I was forced to babysit today," I joked, making her crack a smile.
"You should be grateful," she said, her voice playful but with an underlying seriousness. "Siblings are a special thing."
Forgetting she had none, I tried to quit the joking around. "You're right, you're right... what was it like growing up as an only child?"
"Lonely."
I rolled my eyes at her obvious answer, making her laugh quietly.
"It was okay," she answered properly, green eyes glancing at me sideways. "It meant I had to do stuff for myself a lot because my parents worked most of the time."
I nodded. "But you had friends though, right? You weren't completely alone."
She scrunched her nose in disagreement. "It's not the same... It would have been nice to have someone with me." Nodding to my sister, who was currently messing around on the slide in the playground, she added, "Kind of like Y/S/N has with you."
I hummed in agreement, knowing she was right. It was strange taking something like having a sibling for granted. I guess I forgot that not everybody had the privilege.
"Would you have liked an older sibling? Or someone closer to your age?" she asked, turning to face me.
I shrugged, eyes on Y/S/N. "Maybe. But I quite like being an older sister. I just hope that I can be someone she can look up to."
"I'm sure you are," Elena said, and when I looked to her, she was smiling softly, making my stomach fill with butterflies. I couldn't stop myself from smiling in return.
"So, how are you finding being away from your parents?" I asked her. "It's been a few months. Do you miss them or are you glad to be rid of them?"
She waved her hand uncertainly. "Ehhhh, I miss them, but it is what it is."
"When are you visiting them next?"
"Probably Christmas."
I nodded. "That'll be nice. Spending Christmas together."
She hummed in agreement, glancing out to the playground. Since knowing her, I'd gauged that she wasn't big on family talk. Maybe it was because she was adopted, I don't know, but she was always dancing around the topic, so I didn't push any further.
"You better not forget about us when you visit home," I joked, nudging her in the arm slightly to give her a cheeky smile.
"Impossible," she played along, and I wasn't sure if she was joking, but the way her eyes dazzled in the sun made my smile widen.
After hanging out for a little longer and even playing in the park with Y/S/N, we decided to call it a day and head back to our cars to go our separate ways. I sat Y/S/N in the backseat and buckled her in before closing the door and turning to face Elena.
"Thanks again for keeping me company," I said to her with a grateful smile. "I had fun, even if it was just messing around at the park."
She returned my smile. "No problem. Your sister is a cutie, so I don't mind watching her with you."
I pretended to be offended as I stepped back with raised eyebrows. "Oh, and I'm not?"
Her smile widened as she tried not to laugh. "You're the biggest cutie of all, Y/N."
"Wow, did you just actually pay me a compliment?" I asked jokingly, acting shocked.
She pressed her lips together, suppressing an annoyed smile and rolling her eyes, making me laugh at her expression. She was too cute for me to handle sometimes, and right now, I couldn't stop the elated feeling in my stomach as I watched her eyes shimmer like a kaleidoscope of green and gold in the light.
I let myself get lost in appreciation for her, my gaze falling from her bright eyes to her nose to her pursed lips. They were naturally pink, shining with lip balm she'd applied earlier, and I so badly wanted to know what they felt like against my own. But it was wrong of me to think that.
I swallowed hard, losing my smile and trying to force myself to step back and say goodbye, but my heart got in the way and before I knew it, I'd stepped forward and kissed her.
She was delicate beneath me, lips moving slightly against mine as she realised what was happening. But just as quickly as I'd made a move, I began to realise how wrong this was. As I began to pull away, she surprised me by grabbing my waist and pushing her lips to mine again, pressing her body close and making me stumble back, leaning against my car.
I closed my eyes and let her take the lead as she wanted, melting under her touch and feeling warm at our proximity. Her lips tasted of peppermint, soft and careful against mine, and her nose brushed against mine as she deepened the kiss, sending a storm of butterflies in my stomach.
Maybe she'd wanted this just as much as I did.
—————
THIRD PERSON POV
Yelena hung up the phone after her most recent update with Agent Bowden, a day after she shared a kiss with Y/N.
It was wrong, she knew that. Using someone as sweet as Y/N and playing with her heart like she was. But at the same time, being with Y/N in a way that she didn't want to admit she'd thought about was a nice feeling. A great feeling actually.
Nobody gave her the butterflies Y/N did. There had never been time for that when she was a Widow. Seducing targets before assassinating them was much different to falling for a target before potentially arresting them.
It was supposed to be an act, something Yelena wasn't completely familiar with. The longest she'd pretended to be someone she wasn't was a few hours, then the assassination meant she no longer had to pretend. This was different. It was ongoing, and it meant that she had to get close to her targets. To Y/N.
She sighed tiredly, letting herself fall backwards onto her bed so she could stare at the ceiling and try to think about anything but her current mission. But as always, all she could think about was Y/N.
Going on bowling dates with her and her friends, going to sleepovers, hanging out between classes... these were all normal people experiences that meant nothing to Y/N, but everything to Yelena. It made her feel momentarily normal. She could almost forget that she was there to do a mission and nothing more, and she was experiencing all of the things the Red Room had stolen from her life.
That, and Y/N's unwavering kindness, had her hooked.
Which is why she knew it was wrong to use her, to pretend to care about her as a girlfriend would. Because that's what they'd agreed to be after she'd kissed Y/N back. Girlfriends.
Yelena knew nothing about what being a girlfriend meant. Being touched, holding hands, kissing, relying on someone... these were foreign things for her. Stuff she was only getting used to as of late. To have this with Y/N, even if it was fake, was almost exciting. Yelena didn't expect for it to have affected her this much, but every time she spent time with Y/N and went home afterwards, Y/N's touch still lingered on her skin like a ghostly touch. Yelena could close her eyes and still feel her, and she didn't hate the feeling one bit.
Raising her hand, she touched her lips and could still feel Y/N's kiss on them. It wasn't supposed to happen, but then Y/N kissed her and all she'd wanted to do was kiss her back. Being able to date her and use her for the mission came second, and that was what hurt her the most.
Was this all still wrong if she wanted it to be real? Did her intention change anything? Would the outcome be different if she wasn't pretending anymore?
She wasn't sure, but she knew she'd have to keep it going until she found out the truth. If she did it quickly, maybe this would hurt less. But if she took her time... she'd get to spend longer with Y/N. That wasn't fair, she knew that.
But for once, was it wrong if she got what she wanted?

YOUR POV
Halloween was probably one of the best holidays of the year, at least in my opinion. Dressing up in cool costumes? Eating loads of chocolate and sweets? Watching spooky films? Nothing could beat it!
So, as the day approached, I grew more and more excited to take Y/S/N trick or treating. Every year I took her and I didn't mind because it gave me an excuse to also go trick or treating, plus I loved doing matching costumes with her. This year, she wanted to dress up as the Avengers and let me know well in advance, so I already had some amazing costumes for the both of us. She wanted to be Thor and I chose to be Iron Man, since he'd been my favourite since I was a kid.
However, since the costumes were bought in advance and Elena and I had only recently gotten together, it didn't leave me long to find her a costume. And because Halloween was only days always, I had to scour all the stores nearby, and also Amazon Prime, only to find one costume left in her size – a Black Widow costume. It wasn't bad and it still fit the theme, so after purchasing it, I went to surprise her at her flat and hoped for the best.
Knocking on the door to her place excitedly, I waited with the carrier bag in my hand.
"Go away," she called back from the other side of the door, making me roll my eyes at her reluctance to socialise.
"It's me, idiot," I called back.
There was a pause, then suddenly the door opened revealing a very adorable-looking Elena. She had her blonde hair tied up in a messy bun and was wearing the cosiest matching loungewear set I'd ever seen. But most importantly, a small smile was on her lips when she saw me.
"You seriously need to be nicer to your guests," I joked, pressing a kiss to her cheek before pushing past her to let myself in.
"Sorry," she mumbled, closing the door and joining me in the kitchen area. "I'm not a huge fan of–"
"People?"
She narrowed her eyes playfully. "Hilarious."
I chuckled and turned around to face her.
"So, did we have plans?" she asked with a quirked brow. "I don't remember."
"We don't," I assured her, before grinning and holding up the carrier bag with the costume inside. "This is for you."
Still confused, she accepted the bag and looked inside, before reluctantly pulling out a packaged Black Widow Halloween costume.
"Er... what is this?" she asked, glancing between the costume and I.
Unable to hide my excitement, I answered, "That is your Halloween costume. Surprise!"
"My what?"
I grabbed the costume from her hand and began to pull it out the packaging. "You're going trick or treating with Y/S/N and I! We're dressing as the Avengers."
Unravelling the outfit before her, I held it up high for her to get a good look before moving my head to the side of it so she could see my grin.
"What do you think?" I asked eagerly. "It's all they had in your size. And considering Halloween is in a few days, I'd consider this a steal!"
Elena's mouth was open with surprise as she took in the costume with her eyes. I couldn't tell if it was good or bad, but it was definitely entertaining to witness.
"You're gonna be Black Widow," I explained, lowering the costume, "I'm gonna be Iron Man and Y/S/N is gonna be Thor!"
Closing her mouth, Elena swallowed hard before studying the costume closer. "You expect me to put this on? For trick or treating?"
I pulled a face, judging her playfully. "Oh, come on. You're acting like you've never been trick or treating before!"
The way her bright, confused eyes met mine almost made me believe she hadn't. But that was basically impossible – everyone's been trick or treating before!
"C'mon, time to try it on," I insisted, before handing it to her and gently shoving her backwards.
"Actually, I don't think–"
"No arguing, c'mon," I cut her off, before ushering her to the bathroom. "I'm waiting."
Reluctantly, she went into the bathroom to change, and I sat on the couch with a grin on my lips, way too excited to see what she looked like. After a few minutes of waiting, the door finally opened and she stepped out slowly, looking very unimpressed.
"Oh my God, I love it!" I exclaimed instantly, standing up. "You look amazing! Just think about when we do your hair and makeup – you'll look just like her!"
Elena scrunched her nose with discomfort, looking down at the black jumpsuit and standing as rigid as possible. "Please don't make me wear this."
I tried not to laugh as I stepped forward to take her hair out of its bun. Fluffing it about with my hands, I studied her disapproving expression and tried to envision the look.
"Yeah, we'll curl your hair, do some dark eyes, a light lip... this could work," I mumbled to myself, nodding with approval, before asking, "Unless you want to wear a wig? I'm sure I can find one somewhere!"
"Definitely not."
I laughed. "Then it's perfect."
Elena frowned. "Was this seriously the only Avengers costume they had left?"
"Uh huh." I used my fingers to lift her frown into a forced smile. "Stop being so dramatic, El. You look good! I could almost believe you're a super spy. Perfect, right?"
She moved my fingers from her face and gave me a knowing look, which made me smile with amusement. I leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss to her lips.
"You're coming to mine on Halloween and I'll help you get ready," I told her, not really leaving her room to decline. "Helping me do things for my sister is kind of a package deal when you date me."
She raised an eyebrow. "You sure it's just your sister I'm doing this for?"
I grinned. "Okay, maybe it's for me, too."
She rolled her eyes playfully but argued no more. "Fine, I'll wear the stupid outfit. But I'm not doing that stupid pose she does."
As she backed up to get changed, I frowned. "Hey, c'mon, that's part of the character!"
"Not happening!"
——————
By the time Halloween came, Y/S/N was more excited than I'd ever seen her. Elena and I were putting the finishing touches on her Thor costume, but all she kept doing was practicing her 'fighting' moves which included swinging her fake hammer around constantly.
"Y/S/N, we're never gonna be able to go if you don't sit still," I said with a warning tone, but a smile was on my face. "C'mon."
She sighed dramatically. "Fine... sorry. I just want to hurry up and show my friends how cool we all look!" She looked from me to Elena, adding, "Elena, I love your costume."
"It's not better than yours," Elena replied with cute smile, before finishing straightening up Y/S/N's cape.
"It's pretty darn close though," I said with amusement, glancing at Elena. "I think the utility belt I found and guns really pull the outfit together."
She shot me a sneaky look, making me grin. I'd managed to find some last minute bits to add to her costume, including a utility belt and some toy guns that shot foam darts. With a little bit of black spray paint, they fit the costume perfectly and sat in some holsters on either side of Elena's waist. She hated it, I'm sure, but I loved it.
"Okay, just let me get your wig and we can go," I said to Y/S/N.
As I searched my bedroom for the blonde Thor wig, I heard Y/S/N and Elena talking.
"Can you do any Black Widow moves?" Y/S/N was asking her curiously.
Elena snorted. "You're joking, right?"
Y/S/N looked up at her innocently, shaking her head. Elena pursed her lips, realising she couldn't get out of this, not unless she wanted to upset Y/S/N.
"Okay, erm..."
Elena chewed on her lip and looked around as I finally found the wig, but I paused, watching on and wondering what she would do. Finally, her eyes settled on the toy gun on her waist and she pulled it out, handing it to Y/S/N.
"I'll show you one move," she said, holding a single finger up, before stepping back and facing Y/S/N. "No more after this, okay?"
"If it's cool enough, then I won't ask again," Y/S/N negotiated, making Elena quirk a brow and smile with surprise.
"Okay, okay," she agreed, nodding. "Let's see what you think then. There's three darts in that gun. You have three chances to hit me. I won't duck or jump out the way."
Y/S/N studied the gun in her hand before looking to Elena suspiciously. "If I hit you, you have to pose like Black Widow after we knock on every door today."
I stifled the urge to laugh as I took a seat on my bed and got comfortable. This was definitely entertaining.
"Deal," Elena agreed, a confident smirk on her lips.
"You're really bargaining with a six-year-old right now?" I asked her with a quirked brow.
"Hey, she stated the conditions," Elena shrugged, "I'm just playing along."
I checked my watch for the time. "Okay, well, speed this deal up so we can finish up here. We should go soon."
Elena playfully glared at me before nodding to Y/S/N. "Okay, little lady. You've got three shots. Use them wisely."
I sighed, massaging my forehead at my girlfriend's stupidity.
Y/S/N lined up the gun and squeezed one eye shut to aim. She took the first shot at Elena's head, who easily caught the foam dart between her fingers before it could hit her in the face. I raised my eyebrows at how swiftly she did so, not even realising she had that skill.
My sister was just as surprised, before she took it as a challenge and tried again. Elena dropped the first dart as Y/S/N took two more shots in quick succession to throw her off, but Elena was completely still apart from both hands which caught both darts before they could hit her. My jaw dropped, as did Y/S/N's, and Elena dropped both darts before smiling with satisfaction.
"That was so cool!" Y/S/N shouted, jumping up with excitement. "You have to show me how you did that!"
Elena laughed, bending over to pick the darts up. "That's a Black Widow move. I thought you were being Thor!"
Y/S/N spun around and tugged at my sleeve. "Y/N, I wanna be Black Widow like Elena! Can I change?"
Blinking back into reality, I tore my gaze from Elena and looked to my sister. "No, you can't. You're already ready! Maybe next year, yeah?"
Elena approached us and took the blonde wig from my hands so she could put it on Y/S/N. I looked to her with questioning eyes.
"How the hell did you do that?" I whispered in her ear when I stood up.
She met my gaze with amused eyes and tapped her nose, signalling she wouldn't tell me.
"Looks like I picked the right Avenger for you," I mumbled, shaking my head with disbelief, before focusing back on my sister, who was now ready. "Right, time to go, Y/S/N. C'mon."

After a successful few hours of trick or treating since Y/S/N was enjoying herself way too much, Elena and I called it a day and brought her back home, though she was already half-passed out from sugar overload. It was easy enough to put her to bed upstairs before Elena and I collapsed on the couch downstairs. My parents were at work, so we had the house to ourselves.
"Okay, I'm down to watch a horror film, but if I ring you in the middle of the night, it's your fault," I admitted as I sat beside Elena and grabbed the remote to find something on Netflix.
Elena chuckled, hands rooting around her bag for some sweets from our haul. "No horror films then. I'll let you pick."
I sighed quietly, relieved, and began to search through the ‘Halloween’ genre on Netflix. As I was doing so, I nudged Elena gently.
"You gonna tell me how you did that cool trick earlier with the foam darts or...?"
She smiled widely, leaning on her hand on the back of the couch. "You'd love to know, wouldn't you?"
"Uh, yes, that's why I'm asking," I answered, giving her a knowing look. "Seriously, that was sick, El."
She laughed, running a hand through her hair. "I'm allowed secrets, aren't I?"
I rolled my eyes as I settled on The Corpse Bride as our film. "Fine, don't tell me..."
She wrapped an arm around my shoulder and pulled me into her side as I sulked. "C'mon, don't pout or your face might get stuck like that."
"Asshole."
She laughed again, kissing the side of my head, before nodding to the TV. "Okay, what we watching?"
And that's what we did for the rest of the night – watched Halloween films until she had to head back home before it got too late.
"Thank you for letting me spend Halloween with you and your sister," she said as I saw her out at the door. "You... you don't know how much it's meant to me, Y/N."
I waved my hand dismissively. "Anytime, El. I mean, it's probably not what you expected for a college Halloween experience, but it's better in my opinion."
She smiled softly, eyes never leaving mine. "Much better. Thank you."
The way she was staring at me and the tone of her voice made me think she was thanking me for a lot more than a silly Halloween with my sister and I, but I wasn't sure what else she could be talking about. I genuinely hadn't done anything special.
"You're so weird," I joked quietly, shaking my head qslightly, before leaning forward to give her a quick kiss. "Drive safe and text me when you're home, yeah?"
She pressed her lips together, squeezing my hand and nodding. Her eyes were brighter than ever as she met my gaze. "I will... goodnight, Y/N."
"Goodnight, El."
