A tompouce is a pastry in the Netherlands (and Belgium). Kinda of similar to a mille-feuille, except with less layers. It's two layers of puff pastry with a ton of pastry cream in between them. The top is usually a pink icing, but during pride month and our own pride parade a store in the Netherlands, famous for their 'tompouce' also offer a special LGBTQIA+ one which I tried to recreate here, including a ton of other queer flags!

No, seriously, who came up with this recipe at all? Yes, I agree, in the picture on the Internet and in the pastry shop, this cake looks just Wonderful✨

But you know what? It's totally fucked up when you cook them yourself. Seriously, what is this🤨?!

I'm not complaining, Custard is wonderful and delicious. But not when you have to cook it.

And also, who is the genius who wrote "put the dough in the oven, and when it's ready, cut into portions." Does it bother you that after the oven, this dough becomes a big cracker from the Tuk? Why can't you say "cut into portions right now, the edges will be smooth and you won't have the desire to kill anyone." It's so easy to say!.. Agrrr!!!

Gefeliciteerd!

In this series I photographed typical Dutch birthday treats. This food has been served on birthdays for years & years and years to come. When you arrive at the birthday you start with cake or pie and during the time you’re there more food is passed along. It’s a never ending circle. You eat so much of it that you start to feel full and possibly even a little sick. Something really delicious is starting to look less appealing as the birthday passes.
