Pokemon Card of the Day #3099: Blissey (Lost Thunder)
Tumblr media
Blissey was the queen of the coin flip. Here was a Pokemon that could hit for absurd amounts of damage with enough Energy and luck. It was also prone to doing little to nothing if the luck was bad. With each heads flip giving as much damage as it did, and support existing to help with both Energy and, to an extent, bad luck, Blissey was in as good of a spot as a card built like this could be. Cards like this rarely did anything special, however, so it was still a big uphill climb.
160 HP was a very solid number for a Stage 1. It was out of Zoroark-GX range without prior damage from something like Dewgong, forced Lightning decks to dig into their Electropowers, and generally required big hits while giving up a single Prize. The Fighting Weakness was somewhat notable, as Buzzwole still showed up occasionally in the SUM-On format where Blissey was best, but the type had lost a lot of its luster by the time this deck had everything it wanted so it wasn't too bad. One annoying thing was that Blissey was easy Guzma bait due to its Retreat Cost of 3. Switching cards were also kind of awkward to fit into a deck like this, but sometimes you could draw into Triple Acceleration Energy to allow a single attack from what looked like a useless Blissey.
Happiness Supplement was an Ability that simply let you remove a Special Condition from your Active Pokemon. It was nice to have the insurance there, though Special Conditions weren't the main focus of most decks.
Powerful Slap required 3 Colorless Energy, but got stronger for each Energy attached to Blissey. Each Energy like that got a coin flip, and 80 damage was done for each heads. This was obviously very unreliable, and yet terrifying to face because sometimes luck would allow absurd amounts of damage to be done. Blissey, in SUM-On, did have a bunch of help. This included Welder and Triple Acceleration Energy for acceleration and big hits. It also included Victini, which could let you flip a second time if you got bad luck, and Wishful Baton, which let you move Energy from a Blissey that was Knocked Out to a new Blissey to keep the big coin flip attacks coming. This was still very luck-based and therefore inconsistent, but all this help made Blissey pretty scary to face since the odds were surprisingly good for huge Powerful Slaps to fire off.
Blissey, understandably, wasn't used a lot. While the odds of Blissey working were far better than almost any other card built like this due to how much help was available, it was still prone to that one bad streak that turned a game into a loss. Despite this, a deck built around it did make top 32 at North American Internationals in 2019, showing what the card could do if it did get enough flips. You couldn't take a Blissey deck lightly due to the potential power and the fact that it was handed a lot to work with, and if you were okay with playing with that sort of deck you had a real option here.

Do you have a favorite Pokémon? If not, what’s your favorite animal(s)?
I've been a number 1 Victini, Zoroark, Lucario and Mewtwo fan since I was a little kid. I remember being OBSESSED with Zoroark and Mewtwo and I don't remember why. I genuinely think I used to like Zoroark bc it made my little tomboy self happy and bc I was obsessed with She Wolf by Shakira and there was this one Zoroark She Wolf AMV I absolutely adored.

Munday: What is your favorite mon from each generation?
Picking one is impossible >> Most of my favorites are based in Pokemon that I've used before, so a lot of these have specific names attached to them that make them my favorite x) These are roughly in Pokedex order because I'm scrolling through a list, not in order of least to most favorite.

Gen 5 Pokémon rant because I think it is vastly underestimated :
Okay so it's Pokémon infodump time because I just want to talk about all the things Game Freak could do with Unova and yet won't be doing because they're cowards :
1) Legends Kuyrem game
I know that the most popular opinion atm regarding a potential new game in the Legends Arceus style is Legends Celebi because time-travelling Pokémon + Game Freak reusing their tropes instead of doing something totally different
*and* I totally agree that a game where we could be a modern-day Trainer transported to the past by Celebi in order to convince Ho-Oh to save the Legendary Dogs (Entei, Raikou and Suicune) after the Bell Towers' burning by the bad guys to save Johto somehow is very cool
but !!!!! Legends Kyurem would also be a very cool idea and with the number of historical buildings we see in Unova like Lacunosa Town, Village Bridge, Opelucid City, but also the Buried Castle and Celestial Tower !!!!! There is so much history in Unova and it's so underused it's basically criminal XD
Essentially since Unova is based on New York and the United Stated in general there would be no need for time-travel, the plot could be a family of 19th century immigrants from another region going to Unova because Trainer's parents need a job and there are opportunities in Unova where people are coming from other regions (it's even mentioned in the games on the Village Bridge and they didn't talk about it since and it frustrates me !!!!! so much !!!!!),
And they move to the currently in-construction Castelia City because they came by boat (like the 19th century immigrants arriving in New York) and they get a house/flat and then the plot can be like Legends Arceus where Trainer joins the equivalent of the Survey Corps (the equivalents of the other Corps like Security, Medical, Supply, Agriculture, and Construction could also exist),
And since it would take place chronologically after Hisui all of it could have been founded by a descendant of a Galaxy Team that moved to Unova to transform it just like their ancestor transformed Hisui in Legends Arceus and be based on the same motives of filling in the Pokédex just like the Hisuian one,
And as we fill the Pokédex we meet descendents of the twin brothers (the heroes of Truth and Ideals) who could be leading their own clans like clan White and clan Black just like the Diamond and Pearl Clans in Legends Arceus, who are constantly arguing and they end up battling at the Relic Castle (which is the castle the twins built, it's canon), and in order to save the region and reconcile the brothers, we have to capture the now escaped Reshiram, Zekrom and Kyurem (whose existence we only learn after catching the first two) and put them back together at the Relic Castle !!!!!
The Black and White Clans would also make constant references to the Kingdom of the Vale and think their Prince/twin is right and we would use Victini (the Pokémon enclosed by their father the King) in order to save the region !!!!!
Essentially I am making my own propaganda for Legends Kyurem I hope y'all agree lolol
2) Black and White remakes
I know that will probably happen in the next generation of game consoles because there is only one generation of remakes by game console (1st gen remakes / leafgreen and firered on game boy advance, 2nd gen remakes / heartgold and soulsilver on ds, 3rd gen remakes / omega ruby and alpha sapphire on 3ds, 4th gen remakes / brilliant diamond and shining pearl on the switch), but I am a bit weary about gen 5 remakes because it's the first gen with sequels ?
Like there are so many things that have been added in Black 2 and White 2 that only doing a Black and White remake would be so sad... but knowing that it is very unlikely that they make remakes for both Black/White and Black 2/White 2 is already making me sad before said remakes are even announced XD
Anyways do you know how in Black 2 Opelucid City is futuristic and in White 2 it is more traditional ? And its slogan being "Time's Dividing Line : the City where Past and Future Entertwine" ? And how in Black/Black 2 there is the Black City which is futuristic and in White/White 2 there is the White Forest which is more traditional ?
How about they use that fact to introduce the future Violet Pokémon in the Black remake and the past Scarlet Pokémon in the White remake ? Maybe through the gym leaders (Drayden in Black and Iris in White) ?
Ideally they could do a Delta Episode-esque mission post-League where we go to the Mistralton Cave in the Black remake/the Buried Castle in the White remake and then have this happen :
1) In the White remake, Trainer sees a UFO that had crashed in the Mistralton Cave, is attacked by a Beheeyem but saved by a Neitram, who shows Trainer its precognition abilities and they go to the future where the Violet future Pokémon can be caught and brought to the present ?
Essentially since Neitram/Beheeyem came from a UFO (it is said so in the Pokédex), they could be the perfect Unovian ambassador for the future Violet Pokémon and a great introduction to them ; the mines in the present are abandoned but in the future they could be reopened and futuristic ?????
The Pokédex also says Beheeyem can modify memories so maybe it got scared when found out and tried to erase Trainer's memories of their encounter but then Neitram saves them because it is curious and then shows Trainer the future as gratitude ?????
2) In the White remake, Trainer meets an angry Cofagrigus who wants to attack them but they are saved by a Yamask who befriends them and shows them their memories of when the Relic Castle was first built (2,500 years ago) and they meet the past Scarlet Pokémon there and bringing them also to the present ?
Essentially since Yamask and Cofagrigus are Pokémon that have always lived in the Relic Castle and represent Ancient Egypt essentially, they could be the perfect Unovian ambassador for the past Scarlet Pokémon ; in the present, the castle is in ruins and abandoned but in the past it could have been luxurious and freshly made ?????
It is also said in the Pokédex that Cofagrigus chases treasure hunters and could have hunted Trainer because it thought they were a thief as well and then Yamask saves them and shows their memories of when it was human in the past ?????
Anyways there are so many mentions of the past and future in the gen 5 games it would be such a waste if they don't introduce the future Violet and past Scarlet Pokémon in the remakes to be honest !!!!!
Voilà essentially these are my ideas thank you for reading lolol hope I didn't get anything wrong !!!!! I did so much research hahaha I fucking love Pokémon so much T_T

Yeah, this was created be me, my twin sister and my girlfriend at like midnight two days ago. I purposefully made all of the pairings rare pairs because I want character interactions to be different than in cannon.
I’m sure you can guess the story behind this; Midoriya had no partner pokemon until the number one Gym Leader gifted Midoriya his Victini and his entire gym (Bakugou also gets gym rights). Now, Midoriya is on the path to being the best pokemon trainer in the world! Of course, the local gang called the LOV is on the move now that Gym Leader Yagi is out of commission. Can Midoriya and Bakugou unite the pokemon trainers of the region to fight against the LOV, or will the darkness snuff out the light?

Pokemon Associations for Athena
If you’re looking for Pokemon for your next playthrough and want to pick some that remind you of Her, then you’ve come to the right post!
I’m writing this down from my own research into Athena’s domains and associations, along with a list that I’ve compiled. If you feel like I missed some, let me know! This list also includes the pre-evolutions of the Pokemon I’ve listed. At the end, I’ll make a list of Pokemon that I didn’t include for specific reasons.
This is long and filled with gifs so I’m putting it under a Read More. Proceed at your own risk. Especially the Minior section, that GIF changes a lot.
Noctowl
Tumblr media
Admittedly the easy choice, it’s because Noctowl is a very fitting Pokemon. Besides being an outright owl, Noctowl can use a variety of psychic powers and rotates its head 180 degrees to sharpen their intellectual power.
Victini
Tumblr media
Among being the goddess of strategy and war, Athena is also associated with victory and the goddess Nike. Victini produces energy and shares it with those who befriend it.
Meloetta
Tumblr media
I was stunned to discover that things associated with Athena included dance and music. It makes sense because in one myth she invented the flute. Another association of Athena is athletics, which ties in to dance. Meloetta's song and dance have inspired many works of art and music according to in-game/in-anime lore.
Alakazam
Tumblr media
Alakazam is said to have an IQ of 5,000 and can outperform a super-computer. It can memorize anything and never forgets what it learns (except for moves in the games but let's not pay attention to that right now); it's also highly intelligent and capable of identifying its foe's weaknesses. And that's just from the Gen 1 PokeDex! It's an obvious but good choice for a Pokemon associated with Athena.
Stoutland
Tumblr media
Courage, strength (including personal strength), leadership, and skill are all associated with Athena, and Stoutland has all of these traits and more! Like a loyal dog, Stoutland is protective and team/community-minded.
Swords of Justice
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Athena is associated with justice, law-making, strength, protection, heroic endeavors, spiritual quests, and military prowess. The Swords of Justice - Cobalion, Virizion, Terrakion, and even Keldeo - all share those traits and associations.
Leavanny
Tumblr media
This is a little off of what I’ve already listed so far because until now I’ve been focusing on only a few aspects of Athena - the militaristic, strategic, intelligent side of Athena. However, she’s also the goddess of weaving, arts and crafts of all sorts (fine or not), and handicrafts. Athena comes across as a motherlike or big sisterlike energy to me. Leavanny is very parental and uses its cutters and sticky silk it produces to create clothing made of leaves for other, smaller Pokémon.
Minior
Tumblr media
Minior comes in seven colors (not including the Shiny form) and all of those colors are associated with Athena! In fact, another of Athena’s associations is the number 7, and she’s also a goddess of astrology according to a few texts I’ve read.
This was the only GIF I could find of Minior that didn’t make me sick from how much it flashed.
Braviary
Tumblr media
Ah, Braviary. The Pokemon that’s an eagle but associated with strength, protection, military prowess, leadership, and skill. As you may have guessed, we’re back to the side of Athena that’s very strategic and warlike.
Pokemon I Don’t Associate With Athena
Decidueye: A grass archer that happens to be an owl? I associate Decidueye more with Artemis rather than Athena, personally.
Aaand that’s it! If you actually made it down this far, congratulations! This took me about half an hour to an hour to make, thanks for reading it!

Spirit Sword (1/?)
Reid Alma grew up in the Region of Pacal. After defeating their own league and trying their hand at Alola, they've set their sights on Galar.
AO3 ~ More
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. First Steps
“Now turn your gaze to the Galar region’s greatest Pokémon Trainer, your undefeated champion… It’s time for Champion Leon’s exhibition match!”
“These Galarian’s really like to make a spectacle of everything,” Reid hummed, watching the fireworks go off around the stadium. She chuckled as the champion pulled a dorky pose. “Oh yeah, this is going to be fun.”
“Charizard, dynamax!”
Frowning, she slumped back into the couch cushions as Leon’s charizard grew. “Okay, I know I’m new here, but isn’t that gigantamax?”
Ding, dong. “Hello, hello!”
“It’s open!” she called. She looked away from her phone to see the neighbor kid, Hop, come in with his wooloo.
“Oh! That your flash new phone, Reid?” he asked. “Were you watching Lee’s exhibition match on it? But you can’t cheer him on with your hands full! You know the only way to properly cheer on Lee would be with his famous Charizard Pose!”
Yeah, no, she snorted as Hop turned to talk to her mom about Leon’s visit.
“Come with me, Reid! He should be here any minute! And Lee always brings presents when he visits, so I wouldn’t forget that bag if I were you!” Hop called befor darting towards the door. “Now I’ve got to run! See you at mine later!”
“Didn’t you just tell me to come with you?” she yelled after him before pocketing her phone and standing up. After waking up her munchlax Chople to say goodbye, she went into her room and grabbed her bag and hat. She threw them on after making sure her fishing rod, Galar Adventure Guide, and emergency potion were tucked inside the bag then gave her mom a kiss goodbye and ran outside.
Tumblr media
“Bye Basil, be good for Mom until I get back,” she called as she passed her Budew in the vegetable garden.
“Budewdew!”
So he did wait for me then, Reid thought as she reached the bottom of the steps to her house to see Hop and his wooloo waiting on the road.
“Hahaha! Have a look at you, Reid! That old bag looks like it could pull you over!”
She shrugged and tugged at the straps. “It’s the bag my mom used when she was still a Pokémon Trainer back in Pacal.”
Hop smiled and nodded. “At least we know that it should hold anything Lee might bring, even if it’s as big as a snorlax!”
Thwack! Thwack!
The two turned to see one of her neighbor’s wooloo rolling into a gate.
“A wooloo… but what’s it doing there?” Hop asked.
Thwack! Thwack!
“Hey! You silly wooloo!” Hop laughed, his arms coming up behind his head in a carefree stance. “I see what you’re up to! Don’t go using Tackle on the fencing! Now, you listen! No going past that fence! No! Everyone knows there are scary Pokémon living in the Slumbering Weald!”
“Meeeh?”
Thwack!
“Now that that’s taken care of…”
Taken care of? It’s still doing it!
“How about it, Reid? Let’s race! Bet I can make it to my house first, what with you lugging about that big old bag!”
“Wait, but -” Before Reid could finish, he ran down the road. She sighed and walked up to the wooloo. “Stay away from the fence.”
“Meeeh?” he answered again, but he turned towards her and stopped hitting the fence, so she took it as a win.
“Good boy,” she said, giving it a pat before running after Hop.
As she passed the wooloo farm, she called out to the man minding them to let him know about the one she’d seen at the gate.
“Ta! It’s probably Fearghas, he’s always sneaking off,” he huffed, heading the way she’d come.
She continued on and soon came to the large house Hop’s family lived in. She smiled and waved when she saw his grandmother looking out from an upstairs window before heading to the door.
“There you are!” Hop said, grabbing her as soon as the door opened and leading her into the kitchen. “Mum! Is he here!?”
“There you are at last, Hop!” she said, turning away from the food she was preparing. “Oh, and you’ve brought along Reid. Hello, dear.”
“Hey, Mrs. Duncan.”
“Yeah, yeah, but where’s Lee? Have you got him crammed in a cupboard?” Hop asked, looking around.
Rolling her eyes at her son, Mrs. Duncan said, “He’s still not here yet! For the hundredth time… Honestly, Hop, you must learn some patience! He’s probably only just arrived at the station in Wedgehurst.”
“Then that’s where I’m going! You know Lee is hopeless with directions. I’ll make sure he doesn’t get lost on the way!”
“Oh, will you?” Chuckling, she shook her head. “Yes, that probably is for the best…”
Determined, Hop turned to Reid. “You’ve got to come with, Reid. You’ve still never met my big bro, right? You can’t miss out on your chance to meet the undefeated Champion!” He turned and ran out the door. “I’ll wait for you out on the route!”
“He never slows down,” she sighed.
“Go on with Hop to pick up Leon, won’t you, Reid? I know you’re the reliable sort,” Mrs. Duncan said. “I’ll have everything ready for a barbecue in the garden by the time you’re all back.”
Reid nodded and followed after the boy.
“Let’s get a move on! Only remember, Reid…” Hop panted once she caught up with him, still running, “wild Pokémon could come out of nowhere if you walk through patches of tall grass. I’ve got my wooloo with me, so I’m ready for battles against wild Pokémon, of course. But not you, Reid! So we’ll steer clear of the tall grass as we go. No wandering off if you’ve got no Pokémon of your own, mate!”
Reid nudged him. “It’s not my first time around the block, remember. I’ll look into getting a Pokémon soon. Just want to start fresh with someone new.”
“Sure, sure. Now hurry!”
The two rushed down the road until they reached the cobbled path that led into the town proper. They slowed as they reached a large crowd in front of the train station.
“Guess your brother’s here,” she said as they approached the group.
Hop nodded as he tried to look over the crowd. “I can’t see him though. Lee!” he tried to call out, but his voice was drowned out as the crowd started to cheer.
Reid went onto her toes and was just able to see Leon doing his pose while his charizard stood at his side, acting as a bodyguard.
Hop smiled proudly as everyone began praising his brother.
Once the crowd had quieted a little, Hop started waving around his hand. “Lee!”
The crowd parted to show Leon walking towards them, his charizard a few steps behind. “So, my number-one fan in all the world has come out of his way to pick me up! Look at you, Hop! I reckon you’ve grown… exactly an inch and a quarter since the last time I saw you!”
“Bingo! That’s the sort of sharp eye that’s kept you undefeated so long, eh Lee?” Hop chirped, flailing excitedly and Reid snorted.
Leon glanced over at the sound and smirked. “And these bright eyes over here… I’ve got it! You must be Reid, am I right?”
“That you are,” Reid said, holding out her hand.
He took it. “I’ve heard loads about you from my little brother. Alola’s first-ever champion, and before that, the champion of the Pacal region.”
“I get around,” she said with a shrug.
“Do you still hold your titles?”
“I’m the Pacal Champion, but a good friend of mine took over in Alola after my mom and I decided to move on. Their league is still too new to have their champion abroad and Gladion knows his stuff.”
“Hop told me most of your Pokémon are in the National Bank right now?”
“Yeah, I’ve got a couple with me, but they’re not battlers. You Galarians have pretty strict laws on non-native species. Most of my heavy hitters aren’t allowed in.”
“Pity. I’m the Galar region’s greatest-ever Pokémon Champion, and a massive charizard fan, too.” He set his hands on his hips. “People call me the Unbeatable Leon! It would be fun to test my strength on a fellow champion?”
She matched his smirk with one of her own. “Give me time to put together a team and I might just take you up on that.”
He stepped back and ruffled Hop’s hair. “I think you might have to get in line.”
The younger brother smiled and ducked away. “Come on, Lee! And you, Reid! Bet I can beat the both of you back home!”
Reid raised an eyebrow as he took off back down the road. “He’s always going to win if he keeps running off like that.”
“That Hop… always wanting to be the best, isn’t he?” Leon said, looking at her. “With a proper rival of his own, I bet he’d push himself to become something truly special…”
Reid’s lips twitched up. “He wouldn’t be my first rival. But I warn you, I don’t go easy on anyone.”
Leon just smiled and turned to the still waiting crowd. She rolled her eyes as he did his pose again, and nearly burst out laughing when she spotted his charizard giving him an unimpressed expression.
Tumblr media
“Well, everyone! I bid you farewell for today! But don’t you fret… I’ll always be around to make sure everyone in Galar can have a champion time!”
With that, he flipped his cape and ran off.
Reid shared a look with his charizard before following after him.
Those brothers were two peas in a pod.
Once they were all gathered in the Duncan’s garden, Hop immediately set upon his brother.
“Come on, Lee! You promised us a present! So out with it! You brought Reid and me a Pokémon. You did, didn’t you? I know you must have!”
Leon chuckled and set his hands on his hips. “Right then! The greatest gift from the greatest champion…” He winked at Reid and pulled a trio of Poké Balls out of his pocket. “It’s showtime, everyone! Take a good look, you two!”
He threw the balls and three Pokémon burst out: a green and brown simian with a stick in its head fur, a white and red lagomorph that reminded Reid of victini, and a blue reptile with a tall yellow fin on its head. The three immediately ran about the garden. The simian climbed up into a tree and started banging it’s stick on a sitrus berry, while the reptile dived into the pond and started cheerfully spitting small bursts of water. Unfortunately one of the bursts hit the lagomorph, who had been running circles on the battle court and it began hopping around in a startled fit. One of its hops went into the tree, knocking the simian’s berry into the pond and startling the reptile in return.
Poor things, Reid thought as the lagomorph rubbed its head and the reptile hopped out of the pond and began crying.
Before she could do anything, the simian dropped down to cheer the reptile up. The lagomorph hopped over a moment later and the two made up.
“All right! Line up, everyone!” Leon called out and the three quickly focused in and ran forwards to stand in a line on the battle court. Leon turned back to Reid and Hop, saying, “Which will you choose?”
The two looked on in excitement for a moment before Hop turned to Reid. “Go on, you pick first. I’ve already got my wooloo after all.”
Reid bit her lip and glanced over the three before approaching the reptile.
“That’s the Water-type sobble. It adapts to anything, as surely as water flows. Going with him?”
Reid smiled and held out her hands. “Yeah.”
The sobble gave a happy chirp and hopped up to clap their hands together.
Tumblr media
“So it’ll be sobble for you? Nice one!” Hop said, turning to the other two Pokémon. “Then I’ll go with… scorbunny! You’re mine!” He knelt down in front of the lagomorph and smiled. “I’m aiming to be the next champion, so be ready! You and I’ll be doing some serious training!”
It gave a chitter and pumped its fist.
“I bet you will be, Hop. That’s why I brought along these Pokémon for you and Reid. So the two of you can battle and train and grow stronger together… to try to reach me!” Leon explained before walking over to the simian, charizard joining him. “And you’ll come with me! Charizard will show you the ropes. He’s strict, but real strong and real kind, too!”
“All right, enough of all this Trainer nonsense for one night!” Hop’s mom called and the group turned to see her walking up alongside Reid’s. “Dinner’s ready, children. Bring along your Pokémon, and let’s all eat!”
The next day…
“You spent the whole night with that new partner of yours, right, Hop?” Leon asked as the three relaxed in the Duncan’s garden. “You two getting on all right? Understanding one another? Maybe even built up a bit of love?”
“Course I have, Lee!” Hop answered. “Reid’s made fast friends with her Sobble, too.”
“Río,” she corrected, running her thumb across the Poké ball holding her new friend.
“Then listen up, new Trainers!” Leon declared and she raised an eyebrow. “Believe in yourself and your Pokémon! If you trust in one another and carry on battling side by side long enough, then someday… you might even become worthy rivals for me, the Unbeatable Champion!”
He met her eyes and she smirked. Oh, you’re on, cape boy.
“What’re you looking at her for, Lee?! I’m the one who’ll be coming to challenge you!” Hop announced. “If you think Reid might be able to challenge you, then I guess she’s my first rival! But I’m not planning to lose to her and miss out on my chance to beat the Unbeatable Champion!” Hop turned to her and smiled. “Just having a Pokémon with you doesn’t make you a real Trainer, you know. Proper Trainers raise their Pokémon up to be first-rate in battle too!”
Kid, I’m going to crush you.
“Oh, and you think you’re worthy of calling yourself such a proper Trainer already, Hop?” Leon asked playfully. “Guess I’ll be the judge of that! Let’s see how you handle yourself in a battle against your friend, if she’s up for it.” He turned to her with teasing eyes. “What do you say? Willing and ready to take Hop on in the first-ever Pokémon battle of your life?”
She rolled her eyes and nodded.

Me: I wanna do a let's play, but I hate cameras! Brain: Why not just write it out? Me: Walkthroughs are boring. Brain: What if it was a story? Me: ... Dude!
So yeah, this is basically my playthrough of Sword, but with main character backstory and actual interactions between them and the NPC's.

I decided to fill this out since I found a link for it and was feeling a bit bored. This was hard for some categories (such as grass, where I have one favorite grass-type per generation starting with Gen III), and I had to “cheat” in others (e.g. I consider charizard to be more of a fire-type, but if I put charizard in the fire category, arcanine would have nowhere to go), but overall I’m happy with the results.
And to break down with some trivia:
Number of Faves From Each Gen:
Gen 1: 6
Gen 2: 4
Gen 3: 1
Gen 4: 0
Gen 5: 1
Gen 6: 2
Gen 7: 3
Note: I’m counting ‘Zard X as a Gen VI ‘mon, since mega evolution wasn’t a thing until generation six.
Runners-Up For Each Type (if there were any):
Grass: Treecko, Leafeon, Whimsicott, Pumpkaboo
Fire: Flareon, Quilava, Rapidash, Victini,
Water: Milotic
Electric: Emolga
Psychic: Lugia
Ground: Phanpy
Flying: Talonflame, Noctowl
Bug: Vivillon
Dark: Mightyena, Absol, Houndoom, Zorua
Ghost: Chandelure
Ice: Sneasel, Weavile, Glaceon, Beartic
Dragon: Noivern, Reshiram, Mega Altaria, Rayquaza

ORAS AU: Tech and Entertainment
1. Dr. Magnezone is a popular character. Time Infernape is his co-star. Fans of Dr. Magnezone mainly hang out in Mauville City.
2. Tobias Trollhammer stars in the Clauncherhunter movies. Milo is one of those very rare souls who loves all the movies in this franchise.
3. Psyducky Momo is a popular show among children.
4. The Mahlson Corporation is headed by Orton Mahlson’s father. They sponsor many scholarships in environmental engineering and seek sources of clean energy in order to preserve the harmony between Pokemon and people.
5. Victini Tech is a corporation run by Victor Verliezer. Their products are trademarked with a V and are easily recognizable. Unlike Mahlson Corp, they engage in more underhanded business tactics with competitors.
6. Dakota has an entire line of “We’re Going to the Safari Zone (and then we’re gonna see some Pokemon!)” musical numbers. His status as the Aqua Boss has not diminished his popularity as a singer at all.

Current verses for Fennec, ranging from different sources to aus that shift from the main universe. Others are welcome to request what's listed and suggest other potential realms for rps and asks.
Tooth, tail, and talon AU
A collaborative au with askyourboyfriend and sweetandsourstalker.
Fennec has been living in a new town with a pair of roommates for a few months. He's become very close to Yen and views them as his best friend. It's surprising enough that someone new has romantic interest in him but maybe this guy isn't the only one?
(1) Divergence - Main [Your Boyfriend game]
A second year college student that works two jobs, although the second position is just for the sake of helping a close friend... Who insisted on paying him double. He lives in an apartment complex with a mutual friend and life has been pretty decent since cutting ties with the majority of his family.
(2) Corrupt code - Subverse
He finds himself bored one weekend and prepares to spend the next several hours marathoning horror movies. Someone within his group of friends sent a game recommendation. It's not technically finished but they persuade him into helping out with a final testing phase as the estimated distribution date is fast approaching. After a week, he sends that buddy a message of appreciation for the new game only to find out they never sent anything. Despite seeing no signs of a malicious virus, the advice of deletion and restoring his PC to a previous restore point are met with complications.
2.1 - gets sucked into the game
2.2 - the game starts leaking into reality
(3) Fractured barrier - Subverse/AU
There's a vast number of games stored on his computer. One in particular has an additional feature he only recently became aware of. A chibi of the main character pops up when the application is idle. Unbeknownst to him, closing the program doesn't truly stop the companion feature - it just hides in the background. Aware and watching everything his does from the other side of the screen.
(4) Wild Odyssey - AU [Pokemon]
His coming of age journey started much later than the majority of his friends. Family had little to no confidence in his survival skills and confused by the lack of competitiveness. He didn't dislike battles but sure as hell wouldn't show interest in discussing strategies and techniques with them. Once permitted to live on his own, he obtained his starter Pokemon and spent the first few months bonding with it before traveling.
Current party: Fennekin
Goals: Vulpix, Eevee, Shroomish, Carvanha, Gible, Victini, Cottonee, Petilil, Zorua, Litwick, Skiddo, Amaura, Rockruff, Mimikyu, Nickit, Milcery

I recently decided to tackle the long-overdue challenge of completing my HOME national dex to finally claim a sought-after original color Magearna for my own. Filling the gaps in my dex has been no easy feat, and one requiring I do far stranger things than I ever expected. Catching ‘em all isn’t quite so simple as it seems at first glance, lemme tell you...
Catching various Pokemon was the easy part. Between having three complete living dexes on Sword alone and the complete living Alola dex on my Ultra Sun, a significant portion was already filled in. But that piqued my curiosity about something I first noticed about a year ago when HOME first launched: why did my HOME dex have Pokemon registered that I’d never moved off of gen 7? Well, the good news is that Bank has its own Pokedex, composited from all the dexes of all the game cards you connect to it, and this data is sent to HOME every time you move even one Pokemon. You don’t have to send anything important up to gen 8 if you don’t want to! What a relief.
Still, SWSH infamously don’t offer everything, and so most of my work involved trawling through older gen games and picking up the odd forgotten straggler. A couple of them really surprised me, like how I apparently had Sunflora but no Sunkern, or Ducklett but no Swanna. Regardless, this kind of thing is the fun part of Pokemon, tracking stuff down and catching it, and before too long, I was already finished. Easy enough.
The difficulty ramped up when I reached the point of no return, the point where nothing remains but those dreaded mythicals... the only Pokemon out of ‘em all you can’t just go and catch. Who came up with that idea? I’d like to have a stern word with them (that word is fuck). I left concerns of legitimacy behind me and pressed dauntlessly on. Whatever it took, I was getting this done.
Thankfully, even here I wasn’t starting from square 1. I have a modest collection of mythicals of my own; Meloetta, Celebi, Phione, assorted random pickups from my obsessive play beginning in gen 6. This narrowed it down to thirteen elusive targets. And then I remembered I’d neglected to catch Keldeo in the Crown Tundra, narrowing it down to twelve elusive targets:
Mew - Manaphy - Darkrai - Shaymin - Arceus - Victini - Genesect - Hoopa - Volcanion - Zarude - Meltan - Melmetal
Tumblr media
My first stop was the era of the original DS, with my friend Elliot pointing me towards the Nintendo Wi-Fi DNS Exploit in order to access long-passed events. Limited by the language of games I owned as well as hardware (I never managed to get this exploit working on gen 4 because of that goddamned WEP requirement), I managed to download Darkrai, Victini, and Genesect.
Mew - Manaphy - Shaymin - Arceus - Hoopa - Volcanion - Zarude - Meltan - Melmetal
Up next was the HOME mobile app, where I got by with a little help from my friends - well, friend, namely Nia, who had four more to trade me. Also worth mentioning is how HOME’s friend trading system is normally supposed to be restricted to local-only, a restriction that was supposedly lifted due to the pandemic. I guess I chose the right time to get this underway, at least.
Shaymin - Arceus - Volcanion - Zarude - Melmetal
Tumblr media
What followed is probably the strangest step of my journey, and if I’m being honest, one of the most surprising and impressive. Around this time I’d begun poking my nose various places online looking for where I might get in contact with somebody to spot me the last handful of Pokemon I needed. I saw a post on one subreddit offering “ANY POKEMON YOU WANT” and figured I was about to message some hacker. Instead, all it took was connecting to a discord channel and messaging a bot, and I was in touch with an automated hacking robot capable of trading any Pokemon legally obtainable in SWSH! I was blown away. I felt like the NPC from the beginning of each game who’s impressed by how incredible technology is. And I had three more mythicals registered in my dex (then promptly released).
Tumblr media
Shaymin - Arceus
Bringing this quest nearly to its close is the final adventure I’ve had recently, and one of the more exciting things I’ve done in my time playing Pokemon. Coincidentally, I recently ordered a Japanese copy of Pearl, which happens to be one of the only two games fit to serve as the stage for this endeavor: I was going to attempt the “tweaking” glitch.
As I understand it, this glitch fucks with the loading triggers in the game, and enables you to venture out of bounds in real time using nothing more than your DS and the cartridge. Through careful exploration and the execution of some game events, you can encounter Darkrai, Shaymin, and even Arceus. You can technically fuck up your game file if you go astray, but with very little to lose on my new JP Pearl to begin with, I set to it in earnest. Following video tutorials as my guide, I was biking my way through darkness in no time flat, sights set on the Alpha Pokemon Arceus.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had no Master Ball available on any of my gen 4 games, so capturing this thing came down to three P’s: Patience, Poke Balls, and Parasect. I didn’t have Parasect ready for my first attempt, which ended in failure, and although this tweaking encounter can be repeated an infinite number of times, I wanted this over with as soon as possible. After a day spent grinding Parasect until it was ready to stand toe-to-toe with a god, I dove into the void again and caught myself my first ever Arceus. Thanks to Sakura Miko, of course.
Tumblr media
From here, I’m so close to Magearna I can practically taste it, yet I’m still one Pokemon short - Shaymin. Even though I could catch one through tweaking, it’s reportedly the only tweaking capture incapable of being transferred up to newer games, which leaves me back at the drawing board for one final Pokemon. One final step, and at this point, I can’t imagine what it’ll entail.
